- 2:58and we'll have more on that coming up a little bit later on.
- 3:00Let's welcome to the show now, candidate and current magistrate here in Kanaugh County,
- 3:05Leslie Grace, Good morning, morning, welcome to the show. Thank
- 3:07you, Thank you for me to give us the bio on Lesley Grace.
- 3:10So. I'm a retired police officer. I've been with the sheriff'spartment for over
- 3:15twenty years. That's kind of where my bread and butter has been. I
- 3:19woke up, woke up not too long after Mike System passed away, and
- 3:22thought Mike was an honorable guy, sitting on the edge of the bed,
- 3:24deciding that I need to be a masherate. Never thought about it one time
- 3:28beforehand. The last seven years of my career I worked in the courthouse,
- 3:31so working in all the judges upstairs courtrooms. So I think my courtroom is
- 3:38more like a circuit circuit clerk. Our circuit courtroom does than what it does
- 3:42master. So just kind of getting, you know, getting used to how
- 3:46things are done. I've done it for a year and a half. I
- 3:49absolutely love it. I mean, you're appointed to the position. I Judge
- 3:52Bailey appointed me to the position as Masterate after Mike passed away. I absolutely
- 3:59love the job. It's kind of interesting to me because you don't hear that
- 4:01a lot that someone has served as both a police officer and as a mastership,
- 4:05so I guess you probably have a totally different perspective on it. I
- 4:10bring. I like to think I bring some new things to what the county
- 4:14needs. One of the things that I realized as a police officer that nobody
- 4:16wanted to be arrested in Putnam County because Putnam County sends them to jail.
- 4:19Well why don't we do the same here. I mean, I understand the
- 4:23jail bill is expensive, but the job as a master is to protect the
- 4:26citizens of Kenall County from people that are evil, some bad people, and
- 4:30I think one of the ways we do that is by setting a higher bond
- 4:32on them and send them to jail. I mean, they got to think
- 4:34about it. They gotta have some skin in the game. It's not a
- 4:35PR bond, you know. Personal recognistance bonds are fine for some people,
- 4:40but I think on the to best suit society as it is today, people
- 4:46need to have bonds on them. What's been the most rewarding part for you
- 4:51be magistrate Leslie. You know, the idea of helping people has always been
- 4:56something that I've been about. So getting an opportunity to actually help people in
- 5:00the time of need, when they come into court room and they've you know,
- 5:01they're victims of a crime or you know, something's going on in their
- 5:04life, being able to point them in the right direction, help them,
- 5:08help them move forward through it all. Talk about some of the challenges of
- 5:12being a magistrate, you know, trying to figure out how to help people,
- 5:15because sometimes you can't. Some people don't want help, some drugs that
- 5:18being the way it is today, it's really difficult sometimes for people to see
- 5:21that they need help and they don't want to get help. But when they
- 5:25do, then finding the facilities to take them and get them in to get
- 5:28them help is what it's all about. How's the campaign been so far?
- 5:31Well, it's It's funny because when you've never done something before, it's hard
- 5:36to judge. This is your first campaign, it is it is so you
- 5:40know, you go to every parade, you shake every hand, you meet
- 5:42everybody. You try to do everything you can and hope that's enough. What
- 5:46do you hear when you're out there knocking on doors or parades or meet the
- 5:48candidates from what do you hear from the public. You know, I think
- 5:51the public just wants to know they're safe, you know. I mean,
- 5:55everybody wants to go drive back and forth to work knowing that everything's going to
- 5:58be okay. And some times you can carry that, and sometimes you can
- 6:01and it's the times that you carry it that means the most. I think
- 6:04sometimes, you know, we all want our law enforcement, our courts,
- 6:11whatever level, to be tough on crime, but there are certain there are
- 6:15guidelines. Whether you're a magistrate, whether you're a judge, probation officer,
- 6:17or whatever, there are certain guidelines that you have to follow them. Sometimes
- 6:21I think maybe the public is not aware of that, but I can imagine
- 6:25though, And I've talked to several friends that have been in your position,
- 6:29Leslie that get a little bit frustrated because they see so many of the same
- 6:34dang people. Well, you know, in law enforcement, you say you
- 6:38see ten percent of the population ninety percent of the time, and it's kind
- 6:41of the same thing as a master in you know. But the trick is
- 6:45is if you can catch them early young and get them into some classes and
- 6:48get them into some stuff to move past the drugs and move past the rage
- 6:53and the things that have got them to where they are at this point of
- 6:56their life. Maybe, just maybe it'll help them in the future. I
- 7:00want to go back to your career as a law enforcement officer. When when
- 7:02you were serving as a police officer here and that you were at the Sheriff's
- 7:05office in Kanaha County, did you did you ever think one day that,
- 7:11I mean, heck, I might be magistrate at some point. Did you
- 7:13ever think about that? Or was it maybe something in your head you've got
- 7:15like a mental notebook that you're writing down things, or or at all?
- 7:19You know, not one time, not one time as a police officer,
- 7:24had I ever thought about it? I know, Mike Saystem when he passed,
- 7:26he was he was a very honorable man. And you know I woke
- 7:30up on you. Honestly, was four o'clock in the morning. I'm sitting
- 7:31on the edge of the bed and the only thing I can think of is
- 7:33being a masterate, Like why am I thinking about this? I've never never
- 7:35thought about it one time in my life, But it makes sense being being
- 7:40a police officer working in the courthouse working for this the circuit judges upstairs,
- 7:45seeing how things are done up there, and that I bring. I bring
- 7:47that downstairs a little bit different than everybody else because of what I've seen as
- 7:53a police officer. I can imagine. I can imagine that Dave Alanchoing five
- 7:56eighty Live is brought to you a part by Husband's Pizza where you can get
- 7:58a Larry J. T nich Pepper and Pizza had a large toss slid only
- 8:01twenty ninety nine at your favorite Hudson's location. So what's the biggest problem facing
- 8:07the court system today? I mean, I know it's drugs, So it's
- 8:11specifically what's the biggest problem with faces our courts? You know? I think
- 8:16if we were all on the same page as Masterress, I think that would
- 8:18make things a little bit better. I think everybody does it a little bit
- 8:22differently, and I understand from everybody has different backgrounds and they bring something different
- 8:26to the table. But if we're all on the same page with all of
- 8:28it, where we were all working together, we were all in harmony.
- 8:31So when somebody comes in, they know what to expect. It's not depending
- 8:35on which matter you're in front of what you get. It's all of us
- 8:37are doing it the same way. I'm excited about that. I'm excited to
- 8:41bring that, you know, to bring a different chapter to Connall County.
- 8:46I'm excited about you know, there redoing the courthouse. You know, we
- 8:48have we have thirty as most people know, we have thirteen mattress instead of
- 8:52instead of the ten. They did a judicial review and realize that Cocaul County
- 8:58needs more masterress, so they added three. So we have three empty seats.
- 9:01So now the county has to update the courthouse and make the room for
- 9:05the extra masterates, which is i mis needed, and it's going to be
- 9:09so nice for the for the public to be able to come in and have
- 9:11this new facility. I'm just excited about it. There are a lot of
- 9:15people, seemingly Leslie running for magistrate this time. I mean my phone rings,
- 9:18I've already had a few on I've got a few more coming up.
- 9:22There's a lot of people running for magistrate here. Kenna Kenny. Why do
- 9:24you think that is? You know, I think I think everybody wants to
- 9:28do something different. Everybody wants to make a change, everybody wants to be
- 9:31do something positive that. The biggest problem with master court to an extent is
- 9:37you have a script you have to go by, and I think that people
- 9:39that haven't done it, that haven't set in the seat, don't understand what
- 9:41that is. So outside all, I'm gonna make all these changes. I'm
- 9:45gonna do this, I'm gonna do that. Well, you can't. You
- 9:46know, we have that this is what we have to do, and this
- 9:48is what you can do, and you can do these little changes, but
- 9:52some of the changes are one to almost send them here, almost send them
- 9:54there. You kind of can't. You're just limited by what you're allowed to
- 9:58do, and it's just different. I got a text here for you.
- 10:05Somebody asked a question, so how do magistrates balance the presumpt of innicence with
- 10:09high bond requirements? So if you're a danger to the public, if you
- 10:15come into the court on an initial arraiement, you come in front of me
- 10:18and you're a danger to the public, then I have to set that bond
- 10:20as high as I can because you're a danger to the public. Now,
- 10:24the legislators have put laws in place for us to follow. So if it's
- 10:28a misdemeanor crime, a lot of times it's three times. The amount of
- 10:33the maximum bond or the maximum fine is what you can charge is bond,
- 10:37So and sometimes people don't know that. So you'll bring a person in,
- 10:39say that it's assault on a police officer, and you know, you put
- 10:41them on fifteen hundred dollars bond, and they're like, well, fifteen hundred
- 10:45dollars is not enough to assault our police officers. Because ultimately, if you'll
- 10:48assault a police officer, you'll probably assault just about anybody. But so you're
- 10:52limited on that. You have things that you have to do or that you
- 10:56can go to. So there's a guideline of what we have to do,
- 10:58and that's how you figure out the guideline. And then there's cases that come
- 11:01in front of you where you can set whatever. And so trying to figure
- 11:05out what makes the public safe that's the hard part of the job. Talk
- 11:09with Leslie Grace again, who is a magistrate currently in Kanaha County, appointed
- 11:13that position, but now he's having to run for the office this time around.
- 11:18Do you have a website or social media page? Yeah, Leslie Grace
- 11:20from Ashering, Okay, pretty simple. Yeah, I like to hashtag keeps
- 11:26the big out on the bench. It's a funny story, but well tell
- 11:28us. So I'm sitting on the bench one day this gentleman comes in and
- 11:31he lays his notebook on the table and he's looking at me, and of
- 11:35course I'm game for it, you know. He's just staring me down,
- 11:39and I get scrint on my face. And I asked him, say,
- 11:41hey, what can I do for you? He just stands there and looks
- 11:43at me and he says, well, I have one question for you.
- 11:45He's straight up serious. I was like, well, sir, what's your
- 11:48question? He said, how many days a week do you go to the
- 11:50gym? Well? I go to the gym five days a week, sometimes
- 11:54twice a day, just about every day. And he said, he said,
- 11:58you can always tell a real man when you say it. And then
- 12:00he told me that he played for the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixties.
- 12:03So I looked him up because I thought maybe he was pulling my leg a
- 12:05little bit. No, straight up, he does. So that was the
- 12:09first one, and then the second time, there was a there was a
- 12:11inmate that was in the back that was going back out to the jail,
- 12:13and he made a comment when the officers come around there was laughing. He
- 12:16said, Hey, that guy said you look like Bill Goldberg. So I
- 12:18was like, well, you know, okay, if I look like Bill
- 12:20Goldberg, and I guess the big guy, the big guy's is so keep
- 12:22the big guy on the bench. Yeah. Well, I mean you're a
- 12:26pretty impressive looking specimen. I'll say that say that about you. Do you
- 12:31care to divulte what your political party gets on me? Because I know people
- 12:35will ask so the whole nonpartisan thing. I don't believe that as a as
- 12:39a magistrate, that politics should play. However, I'm a Republican, okay,
- 12:43okay, And I say that because every time I have somebody on,
- 12:46somebody always texts and says, well, you ask him what their party is,
- 12:48and so I'm like to say, and some don't. But a simple
- 12:52Google search you can figure out who anybody is. So all right, give
- 12:54me final thirty, Leslie, Why should people vote to re elect you to
- 12:56the office of magistran Kanaan County. I think I've I bring fresh insight to
- 13:01what I'm doing. I think that I'm kind of spearheading how things are done.
- 13:05As far as you know, the point of the spear is the master
- 13:09Court because everything runs through you. Everything that goes anywhere in the building is
- 13:13run through a master ron and bringing a fresh insight there and bringing a difference,
- 13:18the thought to make a difference, because sometimes we're so busy you don't
- 13:22have time to make a difference, but to try to make a difference every
- 13:26day and everybody's life. And it's difficult sometimes, but it's a challenge I
- 13:30accept and I'm going to win, but I need everybody's vote to do it
- 13:33right well. Best of Lexia in the campaign, Thank you sir, not

- 17:30never met mister Grace until today. It's a big old boy. If I
- 17:34were to be brought into his courtroom as a as as a potential criminal,
- 17:40I think I would probably number one. Not have expected somebody named that to
- 17:42look like him, but I would be very nervous about my sentence that he
- 17:47does look a lot in Hollywood. Jeff, my producer, is a big
- 17:48wrestling fan. He does he could he could be a body double for Bill
- 17:52Goldberg. Yeah, I agree, he's a I think I would just go
- 17:56in and go guilty. I'm just I'm guilty. Yeah, whatever it is.
- 17:59What So, how has a campaign been so far? Fantastic? We
- 18:02have been in probably thirty counties in the last month. The excitement for my
- 18:07campaign and our message is really really resonating. Before we get into the campaign,
- 18:11I want to ask you about your current job, and that is in
- 18:12state Auditor's office. What's new there? So? I think probably the two
- 18:18things that are the biggest that are going on, actually we'll say three.
- 18:22So we are adding cities and counties to our West Virginia checkbook every single day.
- 18:26Our local governments have really stepped up and embraced the fact that West Virginia,
- 18:32under our leadership, is the most transparent state in the entire United States.
- 18:36And they are so committed to transparency and taxpayer education that it's it's incredibly
- 18:42heartwarming to watch our local government step up. Second, we are tearing down
- 18:47dilapidated buildings at a really rapid pace, which is a huge testament to my
- 18:52team of people in the Land Division, along with the deep under Governor Justices
- 18:56leadership, our complete transformation of that process. And then the appropriation of funds
- 19:03and the plan that we put together is tackling this blighted building problem in a
- 19:08way we've probably never tackled before. And lastly, we have an enormous amount
- 19:14of very important things coming in the ESG space coming up. We are working
- 19:19explain to ESG. Yeah, ESG is environmental and social governance, and so
- 19:23it's a way for sort of left leaning people to force private companies to be
- 19:29green, to change their business practices in a way to conform to a political
- 19:36ideology, and it plays itself out sort of in the realm of stock purchases.
- 19:41And so we are working very hard to make sure that and we will
- 19:45have some announcements in the coming weeks on this, that tax payers know when
- 19:48they are investing if they are investing in funds that have an ESG purpose as
- 19:53opposed to a money making purpose. And so we believe that the free market
- 19:57should be free that people should be investing in things with full knowledge that there
- 20:03may not be a total profit motive in whatever the investment that's being offered.
- 20:07Is right if if, if the goal of an investment is to change the
- 20:11environment, its goal is not to make you money, and people should,
- 20:15you know, in fairness, probably be allowed to invest that way if they'd
- 20:18like. But there's probably not a lot of people in West Virginia who do
- 20:22want to invest that way. And ESG is just it's terrible for our gas
- 20:26industry, it's terrible for our coal industry, it's terrible for agriculture industry,
- 20:30and it's it's unfair to to to investors when when they're when the ball is
- 20:34being hidden. Talking to sate outor JB. Mcuskey to Dave Allen Shell and
- 20:38five Aye li Ive. Brought to you apart by General Hardware of Windfield and
- 20:41Milton and General Number of Windfield. If you're planning in a project this spring,

- 20:48for details because the General Hardware WV dot com one way or the other.
- 20:52JB. There's going to be a new state auditor. Yeah, what Uh,
- 20:55what advice would you have for that person, whoever it is. The
- 20:57advice that I would give is on that first day, when we have these
- 21:02incredibly beautiful offices and I have this absolutely unbelievable team of people that I get
- 21:07to work with every single day, I think that we have been an incredibly
- 21:11successful administration in the Auditor's Office, and that is just a great testament to
- 21:17the people that I am so fortunate to get to work with. But when
- 21:19you sit down in the chair that's in this big, beautiful office in the
- 21:22Capitol, there's an excitement at that first moment you walk in there. And
- 21:26allow that excitement to guide your principles as to what the Auditor's Office is supposed
- 21:33to be doing, and that is first and foremost to be the taxpayer's eyes
- 21:38over the state's government. And allow yourself to really understand the public service duty
- 21:45that that encompasses and come up with several great ideas, write them down right,
- 21:51and spend your next three and a half years working towards those ideas and
- 21:55make sure that all of them are centered on making the government smaller, more
- 21:59efficient, and more effective when it comes to things like infrastructure and schools and
- 22:03taking care of people that can't take care of themselves, because the office and
- 22:08the people there are really special. And as our state continues to grow and
- 22:15attract new young conservative families from all over this country, the Auditor's office is
- 22:18going to be a key cog in the wheel that ensures that that that this
- 22:23growth continues to happen. Talking again with State Auditor JB. Mcusky, also
- 22:27a candidate for attorney general, let's focus on the campaign now, you really
- 22:33picked up a lot of endorsements. Yeah. Here lately, I was just
- 22:36perusing social media and it seems to be a lot of endorsements. So,
- 22:37yeah, why do you think that message of yours is getting out and you're
- 22:41picking up all these endorsements. So, like I was saying before, and
- 22:44I hate to sort of be braggadocious this way, but I think the state's
- 22:48business community, the state's legal community, and the conservative movement around West Virginia
- 22:52has really started to see that I am the conservative fighter in this race.
- 22:57I'm the person who has the proven track record of making our government work better,
- 23:02to make it work faster, to make it work more in a taxpayer
- 23:06centered way. And they understand that I have the legal ability and history and
- 23:11acumen to take over from Patrick Morrissey, who's been an incredible Attorney General,
- 23:15the mantle of being, you know, the country's lead in defending Westford,
- 23:21defending our values against people that quite frankly want to see us fail, people
- 23:26in Washington and New York and California. But furthermore that I have a campaign
- 23:33that is going to win the general election. And at the end of the
- 23:36day, all of this is about how do we beat the Democrats in November.
- 23:38And I am the one that's going to do that. And I am
- 23:41just wildly and completely flattered by the outpouring of support that I've had from the
- 23:47business community, the legal community, that the social conservative community for my campaign.
- 23:52And we are really ready for this final stretch. Ready to go.
- 23:56Your opponent, State Senator Mike Stewart. And by the way, I will
- 24:00say that you have put out there a overly positive campaign. Yeah, you've
- 24:07been attacked a lot on this show. Actually, my Senator Stewart last week
- 24:12he's questioned your experience as far as whether you were battle ready to go into
- 24:18the courts. How would you reply to that? Yeah, So I started
- 24:22off my career working for a guy named Jay Seculo at the American Center for
- 24:26Law and Justice, and Jay is Donald Trump's personal lawyer. He is a
- 24:32mentor of mine, and he's also probably the most successful private lawyer in the
- 24:37history of constitutional law, having won multiple cases at the United States Supreme Court.
- 24:42So I began my legal career watching one of the true masters of federal
- 24:49court litigation teaching me how to do that. And then I got to spend
- 24:53the next ten years of my legal practice very fortunately for a couple of years
- 24:59getting to work with my dad, who is a former Supreme Court justice and
- 25:02one of the finest human beings I've ever met in my life and one of
- 25:04the finest and most respected lawyers in West Virginia. And then I got to
- 25:08work at a law firm called Step two in Johnson, where I was really
- 25:15really exposed to incredible litigators in both the coal and natural gas space, and
- 25:21so I got to work with and for and on behalf of all of the
- 25:26people that we're going to have to defend. I did that for a very
- 25:30long time, and for the last seven and a half years, I've gotten
- 25:33to practice law as the state auditor. And if you don't really know what
- 25:37the State Auditor's office does It's hard to really understand why a lawyer is such
- 25:41a great can be such a great person for that job, because as the
- 25:45Securities Commissioner, I'm practicing securities laws every day. As the land Commissioner,
- 25:48I'm working with the legal community in our title search realm on all kinds of
- 25:56legal issues that surround land sale process. But I think importantly I have gotten
- 26:02to work with our fifty five county prosecutors after we establish what we call the
- 26:06Public Integrity and Fraud Unit, and we are the premier and most successful public
- 26:11corruption fighting agency probably in state government. And we've prosecuted forty seven people to
- 26:17felony conviction just in the six years since we started the PIFU, and the
- 26:21prosecutors from around this state are so incredible, and we have really built a
- 26:26team of investigators and lawyers that I'm proud to lead. And so, you
- 26:34know, I certainly understand why Mike would want to say that. But at
- 26:40the end of the day, I went to w law School, I graduated
- 26:44very high in my class. I have worked with some of the greatest lawyers
- 26:48in American history, and I have practiced law successfully and built a reputation amongst
- 26:53the legal community as a person of very very high integrity, great skill,
- 26:57and importantly somebody who understands the difference between a bad person and a person who
- 27:03made a mistake. And I really look forward to taking my way of being
- 27:11a lawyer, which I think is the correct way into the Attorney General's office,
- 27:14because a very large portion of the legal community in West Virginia sees me
- 27:18as the person they want to be the state's top lawyer. I know that.
- 27:22I think it was Thursday last week when I had Senator Stewart on the
- 27:26show. He threw out some allegations there or some misshandling of COVID funds,
- 27:32and you care to sure and Senator Stewart, I think maybe just has a
- 27:37misunderstanding of what happens. So I'm going to read just a sentence from and
- 27:41this is the West Virginia Metro News website, which I think is YOURALS website
- 27:47I'm familiar. So the first sentence says West Virginia has a four hundred and
- 27:51sixty five million dollar question with the federal government based not on any allegations of
- 27:56misspending, but instead over WHETHER'SQUOL systems fell short on an obligation to essentially spend
- 28:03more money. So it's a liberal talking point. I think that came from
- 28:08the Democrat Party, probably to discredit Governor Justice. It's untrue. So this
- 28:12is a slow spending allegation. This is and it is. It isn't even
- 28:18even on the slow spending side, not one hundred percent true. Our system,
- 28:22the way that we have our the way that we fund our schools through
- 28:25the school aid formula, was it really contemplated when the federal government was doling
- 28:30out this money. And so it takes us a little longer to get this
- 28:33money out to the counties. And we will and it's being handled fine,
- 28:37and I have full confidence in the Justice administration to make sure this all works
- 28:41out fine. But at the end of the day, there was an audit
- 28:45done on some of the school board some of the school board spending and they
- 28:49found a little bit of misspending a couple hundred thousand dollars and that's horrible,
- 28:53but it was found during the audit process. And that's how this works.
- 28:57You know, my office has the op debligation of reviewing and looking at literally
- 29:03hundreds of thousands of lines of transactions and so we have to both rely on
- 29:08our investigatory process but also on the audit process to find to find fraud.
- 29:14And to be fair, fraud happens. It happens at banks, it happens
- 29:17at grocery stores, it happens at the government. And our our motto in
- 29:19our offices is that there is no such thing as a small fraud, just
- 29:23one that we find quickly. And in this instance, it was found very
- 29:26quickly and people are being held accountable. And so I feel I feel very
- 29:32confident in the record that that we have in the office, and I feel
- 29:36very confident in our our two finance chairmen in the Governor's office to make sure
- 29:40that all this is done properly. And and it's it's it's unfortunate that that
- 29:45the situation is being used and the facts are being kind of misrepresented in order
- 29:49to score political points, because at the end of the day, it's bad
- 29:52for business, it's bad for the image of West Virginia, and and it's
- 29:56just as frankly, isn't true. Friday, JB came news that one of
- 30:00the endorsements that mister Stewart had received was pulled back because the family of the
- 30:04slain State trooper Amingo County didn't appreciate there where as mister Stewart using mister Stewart
- 30:10using the death of a trooper for political purposes. You have any any comment
- 30:12on them? Yeah, I'm gonna let I'm gonna let them speak for themselves
- 30:18on that. I am very very proud to be endorsed by the West Virginia
- 30:22Sheriff's Association. I'm very very proud of our record working with county prosecutors.
- 30:27You know, I have always backed the blue, but I'm also somebody who's
- 30:30a little humble and a little bit quieter than some other politicians, and so
- 30:36it is. It's a wonderful thing to find that the law enforcement community of
- 30:41West Virginia is very strongly supporting my candidacy. And if they would like to
- 30:45speak with you about that, that's fine. But I have an enormous amount
- 30:48of respect for Rachel Maynard and her family. They've been through a lot,
- 30:53and I'll just leave it at that. Tonight, there's going to be a
- 30:57debate held between you and this understood on the campus of West Virginia State.
- 31:02What can we expect from the debate tonight? You can expect me to talk
- 31:04about my record. You can expect me to talk about why I'm the conservative
- 31:08fighter in this race. You can talk. You can expect me to explain
- 31:11why I'm the person that's supported by a vast majority of the business community,
- 31:15a vast majority of our law enforcement officials, a vast majority of our legal
- 31:18community, a vast majority of our social conservative groups. Why I have an
- 31:22A rating from the NRA. You can expect me to talk about my record,
- 31:29who I am as a person. You can expect me to talk about
- 31:32my amazing family, my amazing wife, are amazing small business, my amazing
- 31:36kids. But more importantly, I think you're going to expect to hear me
- 31:40talk about my intense passion for the people of West Virginia, because we deserve
- 31:48greatness, and we are finally at a point where greatness is at our fingertips
- 31:53and we just got to reach out and grab it. But we need a
- 31:57great Attorney General to make sure that the federal government and liberals from around this
- 32:01country do not snatch this greatness away from us at the first moment that we
- 32:07have this opportunity to truly transform the lives of so many people that have been
- 32:13downtrodden for so long, and rebuild our schools, and rebuild our infrastructure and
- 32:17rebuild our population. I just love this place so much, and I am
- 32:23so committed to fighting for who we are against people who don't believe in our
- 32:30greatness. And you can expect me to talk about all those things, say
- 32:32Don and Derm Canada for Attorney General JB. Mcuskey. I appreciate you being

- 35:39I bet most people in those states couldn't point to where West Virginia is on

- 35:45Why do West Virginia politicians constantly use those states as the boogeyman? It's tired
- 35:52like their platform. Everyone's talking about the eclipse. Now we'll continue the talk
- 35:57list. Welcome in Spencer Adkins from Storm Tracker. Spencer, good morning,
- 36:00Welcome to the show. Hey, how you doing, Dave? I am
- 36:04doing fine. First of all great coverage last week on the big storms.
- 36:08How many tornadoes have now been confirmed to the area. I'm changing so far,
- 36:15so far, and I think there will be more because they're going out
- 36:17to do more surveys. And it's funny because now I'm sitting here thinking about
- 36:22the twenty twelve d racho and I'm going, you know, there's a process
- 36:27and the reason is that the emergency management has to say, oh, yeah,
- 36:30well we've got the stamage over here, Hey, Weather Service, we
- 36:32think it's worth you coming out to do that, so like a request process,
- 36:37and I'm going, there was so much damage in twenty twelve, you
- 36:39know, we probably had more tornadoes back then that we think. But this
- 36:43one so far is the one day record for West Virginia, for this service
- 36:47area for the Charleston Charleston National Weather Service. But that's because all these sites
- 36:52have been requested, so I don't know, you know, going back now,
- 36:55I'm going, gee, it was probably about the same thing, the
- 36:58same kind of squall line that had a rotation in it. And wow,
- 37:01what a day, What a day that was. And now I got what
- 37:04let me blow your mind or this As I'm waiting on hold to speak to
- 37:07you. I get an update saying that as we were sleeping last night at
- 37:12four oh one am, it was a very minor earthquake in eastern Kentucky last
- 37:15night. So it was a two point three over in Elliott County of all
- 37:21things. Yeah, not exactly really known as a fault line area either.
- 37:24So this is great as if we needed more on the eclipse day, right,
- 37:29we gotrtatoes, earthquakes and the clipse. So specier. What do you
- 37:32think looking back last Tuesday will how will it be viewed historically? Because I
- 37:37mean everybody points to I think it was April to nineteen seventy four and we
- 37:42were just one day away from that being the fiftieth anniversary of the tornado outbreaks
- 37:45we had in this part of the country. Looking back, how will last
- 37:49Tuesday be remembered? In your opinion, it's going to be one of those,
- 37:53like one of those whoops, because we thought the nighttime was going to
- 37:58be something akin to that with a strong long track tornadoes set up and everything,
- 38:02and then the morning really came together. I mean some of the models
- 38:07and we talked about it. We said, well there's a couple of models,
- 38:08say some thunderstorms, I think got together as such a massive squall line.
- 38:13And you know, I'm going to say that was a duracho because the
- 38:16damage path was way more than two hundred and fifty miles long. And that's
- 38:20the thing you can't tell. It's like a tape measure posts event label that
- 38:25you can put on. Something you can only tell when you go back and
- 38:28stretch that damage path out and go, okay, that kind of qualifies.
- 38:31But I'll say it will be eventually remembered, just the whoops duracho, like,
- 38:36oh that was kind of we were looking down the road and that got
- 38:38us in the morning. But yeah, I mean it'll be historic. What
- 38:42can you call it? An outbreak? You know, an outbreak is more
- 38:45like the seventy four individual long tracks. This is just a squall line that
- 38:50had you know, it's probably gonna end up being a dozen tornadoes on the
- 38:52thing, which is kind of different for us. Yeah. Indeed, again
- 38:57we're talking with Spencer Adkins from a storm track at thirteen. All right,
- 38:59let's get to the eclipse. Break it down in language that simple people like
- 39:04myself can understand what exactly has happened today? What's a scientific explanation for what
- 39:08has happened today, nothing more than the moon is getting in between getting in
- 39:14between us and the sun. And so I was thinking about this. You
- 39:16know, the moon is whatever, like four hundred times smaller and all this,
- 39:20and you're going, how can it make such a big shadow. Well,
- 39:22if you go to a ballgame and some guy stands up in front of
- 39:25you, he's not bigger than the entire field, right, but in your
- 39:30line of view he is. Yeah, So yeah, exactly. So this
- 39:34is a little bit like hey, buddy down in front. But right now,
- 39:38looking at Charleston, we're going to be covered ninety two point eight percent.
- 39:43The further west you go, like Huntington ninety four percent, and this
- 39:46peaks at about three thirteen. Now that's off. Of course, the clouds
- 39:51don't get in the way. We see some clearing going on. But if
- 39:53you were just to drive just to the western suburbs of Cincinnati, that's where
- 39:57you get that one hundred percent covered. You know, this next one is
- 40:00like twenty forty four. Of course it wouldn't even be over us at that
- 40:05point. But you know, in America, and so I think, you
- 40:07know, it's wrong to say this is once in a lifetime, but it's
- 40:12you know, pretty rare. Thank you for pointing that out. Thank you
- 40:15for because I actually retweeted or reacxed whatever you do on AX now what you
- 40:20had said earlier, Because if I make it to the year of twenty forty
- 40:24four, I think is what you said the next year would be, I
- 40:27would be seventy four years old. There will have been four of those during
- 40:30my lifetime, So so so much for you once in a lifetime thing.
- 40:35There were four if I make it that far, there will be four during
- 40:37my lifetime. Yeah, it's just it's lazy headline writing and being in the
- 40:43media. You know, we can argue about headlines and thumbnails and everything,
- 40:46but once in a lifetime is that's pretty erroneous. I would I wouldn't say
- 40:51that now. So how's this going to be different than what we saw in
- 40:52twenty seventeen? Because I was actually in Putnham County when the last one hit
- 40:57in twenty seventeen, and to be honest with you, Spencer only it.
- 41:00I mean I was I was with a couple of friends and looked outside and
- 41:02it was like, Okay, it looks like it's going to rain. That's
- 41:06what it looked like. It really wasn't a heck of all of deal in
- 41:07Puttenham County in twenty seventeen. How is this going to be different than twenty
- 41:12seventeen, and how's it going to be different than what some of us remember
- 41:15as kids. I was in third grade in nineteen seventy nine and I remember
- 41:20that vaguely. How is this today going to be different than those other two?
- 41:24Well? I think it was hotter last time. If I recall,
- 41:27right, we were up on the roof in Charleston, and you know,
- 41:30it is weird. It just it's like somebody dims the lights a little bit,
- 41:34that's all. It's going to be very similar if you have the sunshine
- 41:37out And about one interesting impact that we've noticed so is that but if you
- 41:44have like low cumulus clouds or you know, like the little puffy ones or
- 41:46even mid level, you do tend to see because as soon as that the
- 41:51moonshadow comes over, it does cool things off several degrees and those tend to
- 41:54part. The ones that get in your way, the high thin ice crystal
- 41:57clouds, and there might be some of those, So you know, I
- 42:00think unfortunately this time a little bit more cloud coverage, it will not be
- 42:05as hot because that was the summertime. If I recall, it was pretty
- 42:08pretty warm, so pretty pretty similar. But somebody asked and they said,
- 42:13can I drive during that? And I said, yeah, yeah, actually
- 42:15you can. Just obviously, hey, don't wear your clips glasses. Well
- 42:17drive You shouldn't have to tell people that, spencer, but no, I
- 42:21know you did. Yeah that's kind of like don't wear a welders mask driving
- 42:24on the street. But uh, you know, just you can drive,
- 42:28and the animals can be out and all that stuff. It's nothing more than
- 42:31just just envision that at the ballgame. The guy gets up and stands in
- 42:36your way. That's the mood coming in between you and the sun and it
- 42:38gets a little dimmer. But you mentioned about the animals because I was reading
- 42:42all this stuff, people said, don't let your animals out. It's it's
- 42:45total bs, right, Oh that is. Animals are fine. They don't
- 42:49look that. They never go out and just look at the sun anyhow.
- 42:52And then there's so many other like spoofs that go around the internet about like
- 42:57oh, turn off all your you know, cell phones, said that that's
- 43:00a hoax. I don't even you know, people just want to kind of

- 43:32look directly into the sun anyway on any day. Yeah. Look forget what
- 43:37Manfred Man Earth Band said where they said, you know what, Mama always
- 43:40told me not to look into the eyes of the sun. But Mama,
- 43:43that's where the fun is. No, don't believe that song. That's very
- 43:45old right, all right, Spencer's always a pleasure, my friend. We'll

- 49:40Dave. All these candidates supporting Trump. West Virginia lost jobs under Trump.
- 49:45The only major legislation un Trump was a fifteen percent tax break for big businesses.
- 49:50Biden has brought jobs to the state. Now Republicans want all the credit,
- 49:53tex says Dave. Not much reporting on this this morning. The Biden
- 49:57administration is considering requiring labels on employ goods made by Israeli sold settlers living in
- 50:02the West Bank. The administration reportedly views the label required as the means of
- 50:07ratcheting up pressure on Israel to tamp down violence by settlers in the West Bank,
- 50:10as well as to show frustration with Nettan Yahoo's Israeli war with moss I.
- 50:16Stop there. Just go ahead and place little stars as a texture on
- 50:20each item, I wrap them and strike packaging. If approved and implemented,
- 50:22This would be a reversal of the twenty twenty policy advanced by the Trumpet administration
- 50:27that required goods made in the West Bank be label is made in Israel.
- 50:30We cannot be on the wrong side of this, people, says the texture.
- 50:34My family and I stand with Israel. So today is total Eclipse Day,
- 50:40and I spent some time talking about with my good friend Spencer Adkins.
- 50:45But I've come to the conclusion that the older I get, the less I
- 50:49care about pretty much anything, and I get upset when anything disrupts my routine.
- 50:55As I mentioned during the interview with Spencer, this once in a lifetime
- 50:59event has happened already three times during my lifetime. And as I mentioned,
- 51:06if I live to the year twenty twenty four, and depending on what time
- 51:09of year it is, I'll either be seventy three or seventy four at that
- 51:13time, this once in a lifetime event will have happened four times during my
- 51:19lifetime. And I didn't really care a whole lot about it when I was
- 51:22in third grade, didn't really care about twenty seven, don't really care about
- 51:25it that much now. I did talk to a friend of mine who works
- 51:30in Indianapolis He and his family actually live in one of the suburbs of Indianapolis,
- 51:34and he said it's just been total chaos with the traffic and whatnot there.
- 51:40I just I can't imagine. I mean, but again, as I
- 51:45told somebody over the weekend, you like what you like. People don't understand
- 51:47why it is that, I, you know, obsess over sports or obsess
- 51:52over food or whatever the case may be. So I guess everybody. If
- 51:57everybody liked the same thing or got into the same thing, I guess it
- 52:00would be a very, very boring place. All Right, gotta go.
- 52:04Thank you to State Auditor and candidate for Attorney General Jimmy mccusky for being on
- 52:07the show today. Also to Leslie Grace, current Canal magistrate and candidate for
- 52:13said office, and Spencer Adkins from Storm Tracker thirteen. Remember if you take
- 52:15nothing to wait it off of the Spencer Adkins interview, don't drive with the
- 52:20clips glasses on or a welder's helmet on. Your pets will be fine.
- 52:22This is not the apocalypse. It's something as I said, that happens,
- 52:27you know, four times during my lifetime. All Right, tomorrow we're gonna
- 52:30spend some time talking about the Auditorium in Charleston, what to do with the
- 52:35future of that post. Don Miller from Read a Loud West Virginia will stop
- 52:37by as well. Hoppy's back in the big chair coming up at ten oh
