- 0:39and we got a great discussion coming your way this week. The Philadelphia
- 0:43Flyers making some moves, doing some good things. I dare to say the
- 0:49draft was last week and we're gonna get into that this week on our Table
- 0:53Talk discussion. We have a brand new guest that is joining us. Cannot
- 0:56wait to get into this discussion. So let's get to it. And it
- 1:00is great to have on the podcast for the very first time, coming to
- 1:03us from broad Street Hockey dot com and specifically they're fly Purbole podcast. Absolutely
- 1:10love listening to it. As you all know, I subscribe on Apple Podcasts
- 1:12and you should subscribe to the broad Street Hockey podcast as well. Visage Radio.
- 1:18We've got the one and only Steve Jacoe. How are you doing,
- 1:21Steve? I'm doing great, Jeff, how are you time? I'm doing
- 1:23all right, man, I'm still in a high after the draft party last
- 1:26week that we were at broad Street Hockey's draft party. Man, what a
- 1:29great atmosphere. I know we're gonna get into it and stuff, but dude,
- 1:32I'm still on a high. It's it's great what's happening here. It's
- 1:34great what's happening here. And I've been doing these draft parties for a few
- 1:38years at this point. I've been a member of broad Street Hockey since I
- 1:42want to say, like twenty seventeen or so somewhere around there, and this
- 1:46has to I really feel like this was our biggest and best one yet.
- 1:48Yeah, it's such a great event. Just to bring the Flyers community together
- 1:52and to get the support we've gotten from the Flyers in the past couple of
- 1:55years has been awesome. It's really helped up the game. And I mean,
- 1:57it's a shame Gritty didn't show up. But besides that, I mean,
- 2:00and for the first like thousand dollars in drinks was awesome. Yes,
- 2:05had the alumni there was awesome, just like and just you know, the
- 2:08mood from last year to this year, what a complete change. You know,
- 2:14it's just cleaning house, getting rid of Fletcher. And it's funny because
- 2:16I say cleaning house, but like they brought in like sixty five alumni since
- 2:20they can house right right, you know. But it still feels fresh,
- 2:23it still feels like something new. And I think this was just like the
- 2:29vibes were really really good. Absolutely absolutely. Now, before we get into
- 2:32what happened with this draft with the Flyers, Steve, I really wanted to
- 2:36just touch on really quick because the news broke probably an hour before we started
- 2:39recording here on July third, is the fact that the Flyers have a new
- 2:44defenseman. They have signed Mark stall from the Florida Panthers to a one year,
- 2:50one point one million dollar contract. I mean, at the end of
- 2:53the day, is this really going to move the needle. Probably not,
- 2:57But for me, I understand why they're giving the Flyers and especially the kids,
- 3:01and I call them kids, but the kids in this organization who are
- 3:06looking to come up. He's a veteran presence and could he potentially be that
- 3:09mentoring figure. I think so. But Mark Stallly's going to be on this
- 3:13team during this twenty twenty three two twenty four season, likely, you know,
- 3:16if he gets out of if he gets out of camp, of course,
- 3:20But I don't know what are your thoughts on this signing. I'm not
- 3:22a big Mark Stall fan. Yeah, by any means, right, you
- 3:24know, even reasons like their reasons to be on the hockey, but like
- 3:29I don't even like his hockey game. Like I'm not a huge fan.
- 3:30But you know what, that doesn't matter, because you need people to play
- 3:35the games for this team. You need a full roster. I was looking
- 3:38at the defense last week when they traded Provoff, and I'm like, who
- 3:43the hell is going to play this thing, especially because they were rumored to
- 3:46be talking about trading Sandheim. They were rumored to be talking. I mean,
- 3:50there is apparently a deal in place to trade Tony D'Angelo as soon as
- 3:53possible. So you need warm bodies out there. And Stall certainly is a
- 3:57guy who's been in this league for a while at this point. And I
- 4:00mean, it's it's it is what it is. It's just fine. You
- 4:03know, he makes like barely anything on the cap, Like he's gonna play
- 4:08bottom six, probably maybe play the top who cares? Like this season for
- 4:12me, this is another tank season. They've never really embraced the tank,
- 4:15but frankly, the more high draft picks you can get to help rebuild this
- 4:20roster, help rebuild this organization the better. And you know what a guy
- 4:25like Mark Stall's great for, you know, just bringing in and just saying
- 4:28like, who gives scrap, right, just gonna play hockey and and maybe
- 4:31he'll help with like I don't know Cam York's defensive game or something like that.
- 4:35Maybe Cam York is a great offensive player. Uh, it's still learning
- 4:40the ropes on the defensive defenseman side of the game. Maybe, but you
- 4:44know, it's not really a needle mover. Yeah, absolutely, all right,
- 4:47that's about it for Stall, folks. That's about it. I'm not
- 4:50going to be talking about him probably that much anymore on this podcast, and
- 4:55certainly the hell knows in the future. I think the next time we'll talk
- 4:59about him as the trade deadline that's probably there you go, There you go.
- 5:02Well, it's trade bait, right, like trade deadline, you got
- 5:05a vet flip them for a third round pick called today, There you go,
- 5:09there you go, And who knows what this team's gonna look like at
- 5:11that point. Anyway. Well, look, Steve, I really wanted to
- 5:15talk about this draft because I think a lot of us, like I said,
- 5:19are still on a high from it. And I know you kind of
- 5:23got into what that energy was for us last week at the broad Street Hockey
- 5:28draft party in South Philly, it was just again, it was just awesome
- 5:30being there and there was this overall just hopeful and very positive tone to what
- 5:35everybody was feeling, like even before the NHL draft actually started, before the
- 5:41Flyers picked at number seven, and we know who they picked, which we're
- 5:44gonna get into in a bit. Anyway, how would you describe not only
- 5:46that energy and I know you kind of touched on it earlier, but how
- 5:49would you describe that energy that evening amongst us Flyers fans who were there and
- 5:55what should the energy, what that feeling was, what should that mean to
- 6:00us moving forward? The energy was just it really is something I haven't felt
- 6:04in a few years. And the draft party fives are usually pretty good.
- 6:09We have great fans of the blog and just people who want to come out
- 6:12to a party and celebrate the Flyers because you know, it's the Flyers community
- 6:15is even though it feels a little divisive at times, right, but it's
- 6:18still pretty times. Yeah, I know, But like hockey is just such
- 6:23a small sport that you know, if you meet a hockey fan, you're
- 6:27still going to talk hockey, even if you hate their guts, right,
- 6:30but you know, the vibes are really good. It's so hopeful and the
- 6:34one I want to compare this too. So we did a party a few
- 6:38years ago when they was the the Cam York Draft and one of the fan
- 6:44I think that's maybe the funniest moment in draft party history for us is when
- 6:48they come up and then they're like, oh, they could get called call
- 6:51Field, and everybody was pretty excited. And then they announced a trade that
- 6:55they moved back to spots and they're like, okay, fine, well and
- 6:58then call Fields available again and everybody's getting hype. Everybody's on their feet,
- 7:01and then they say from the American team, and then everybody's like, oh
- 7:06my god, they did it. And then it was Cam York. And
- 7:12I love Cam York. I think Cam York's gonna be a really solid player
- 7:14for this club moving forward. But Cole Caulfield is a dynamo. He is
- 7:18like an awesome, awesome player for Montreal. He's fantastic, and I think
- 7:24there was a lot of worry that the Flyers would overthink this because this was
- 7:29great because, like I had to keep reminding myself, I don't know what
- 7:31Danny Brier is going to do. We all act like we know because the
- 7:35Flyers, you know, same old Flyers and all that, but we didn't
- 7:39actually know what the hell he was going to do coming into this. And
- 7:41then the picks start getting intriguing. I mean, there was the you know,
- 7:45number two was unexpected. Nobody really thought that Carlson was going to go
- 7:49there instead of Fantilly, but that happened. But you know, the top
- 7:53three more or less was the same as everybody anticipated. With the Montreal comes
- 7:57up, they pick Ryan Bocker and that's a little surprising, and then the
- 8:01Coyotes pick a guy that I wasn't even on my radar, and we got
- 8:05the Caulfield situation all over again, where the Flyers had the chance to take
- 8:09a big swing and go for a guy who is dynamic offensively, and the
- 8:15crowd is getting hit like everybody was like really excited. And if they if
- 8:22Danny Breer come up and said anybody's name but Mishkoff, I think there might
- 8:26have been a riot. The live casino, like the slots machines just getting
- 8:31flipped over. You know, it would have been just chaos. But he
- 8:35came up and he said Matemishkoff and it took him a second because he was
- 8:39a little nervous for his first one, but he was. But you know,
- 8:43everybody was just pretty jubilant about the pick in a way that I've never
- 8:46seen before. And the thing is also with the NHL draft, Like it's
- 8:50not the NFL draft. It's not the NBA draft where you know the big
- 8:54names, right, you know, And I'm not a draft expert by any
- 8:58means. That's why I bring people like Maddie On or I have, like
- 9:01Quigly to talk about that stuff because they pay a lot more attention than me.
- 9:05I just like to, you know, talk about whenever that comes to
- 9:07my mind. But Mishkoff was like a huge name in this draft, and
- 9:13we all knew the controversy with Russia. We're all intimately familiar with what happened
- 9:18with phototoph But you know, it's regardless of all that, you just want
- 9:22to see the Flyers try something big because so many times in their history they've
- 9:28just made conservative moves. Think about like the Samuel Moran Draft, for instance,
- 9:31Like I don't want to call him the more in Mafia, but like
- 9:35that was a terrible, terrible pick, and everybody could tell you on day
- 9:37one that it was a terrible pick except for Paul Holmgren. And you've seen
- 9:41picks like that, even like I love Scott Lawton, but Scott Lawton when
- 9:46he was picked, or like they picked a two way center, right,
- 9:48why do I give a shit? I love Scot Lawton of bits, but
- 9:50like I thought that was kind of like a really like ho Hume pick.
- 9:54So to Sea Brier, come in and make the big swing and make a
- 10:00potentially franchise altering pick, because if Mashkoff comes over in a couple of years,
- 10:03he has the talent and the ability to really transform this club back into
- 10:09the upper tier of the NHL where they belong, right, And you know
- 10:11people will try tonight it like the Flyers belong in the upper tier of the
- 10:15NHL because they are an iconic franchise. And Mashkoff all the way in Russia
- 10:20knows that he was kissing the crest, like I've never seen a guy Chris
- 10:22kissed the crest before it, right, right, that was so cool.
- 10:24But the vibes were immaculate. Everybody was fired up, and it's maybe the
- 10:31happiest I've seen Flyers fans in a long time. Absolutely, and I think
- 10:35it was because of the aggressiveness too of this draft. We talk about taking
- 10:37a swing because we have not seen that as fans, so they let's,
- 10:43you know, moving along here, Steve, let's talk about some of these
- 10:46draft picks here, and first and foremost, you know, Mitchkov, let's
- 10:50talk about him, and we know the deal with him, like he said,
- 10:52like he was one of those talents coming into this draft where we kind
- 10:54of knew what we would be getting in terms of that upside potential upside of
- 10:58course playing in Saint Petersburg for at least another three seasons unless he's somehow able
- 11:03to get out of that contract. And I really do think that Danny Briair
- 11:07in the front office drafting him, it just solidifies in terms of showing their
- 11:13commitment to the rebuild. I would imagine you think the same way, and
- 11:16what does the drafting of Mitchkov really mean to the rebuild? In your eyes,
- 11:22it shows that they are committed to being a competitive team in like three
- 11:24years, Yeah, supposed to like Hextall would say that, but then like
- 11:28Hextall had his clear times to pull the trigger and he never did. He
- 11:31didn't right. I liked the bones of Ron Hextall's plan, but like he
- 11:37just had no idea how to finish that off. And we saw that really
- 11:39backed up during his tenure in Pittsburgh where he did nothing right. And then
- 11:43Chuck Fletcher was brought in as this kind of like closer figure for I don't
- 11:48know, for some reason, even though he never closed anything in Minnesota.
- 11:52So like Chuck Fletcher would come in and he made these moves like the Kevin
- 11:56Hayes move, and to be honest or to be fair, the first year
- 12:01of Chuck Fletcher's tenure like or the first maybe two years, like, he
- 12:03did make some interesting moves. Hayes was a pretty interesting move to solidify the
- 12:07second line. And if you look over at like the niskan And trade,
- 12:11the niskean And trade was his best by far by a while, and he
- 12:15just spent his entire tenure trying to recreate that and he never did it.
- 12:18But like he should have realized once they hit a certain point that it's time
- 12:24to start over. And what does he do he hires John Torrella, who
- 12:28is a he's not a rebuild coach, Like he's not exactly who I would
- 12:35think of as like a rebuild coach. Like if you look at the Sixers,
- 12:37right, the Sixers hire Brett Brown to be their process coach. He
- 12:41was a guy who's like just gonna bring kids up and he knows he's gonna
- 12:46lose, but it is what it is. Tortorella is the fieriest coach in
- 12:48the NHL. This guy's gonna do everything he can to win. He doesn't
- 12:52give a crap about rebuilds. Why should he, And just everything he did
- 12:56those last like two years was just in denial and Brier drafting, Mishkov says,
- 13:01I realized that this year is not the year. Next year is probably
- 13:05not the year. Maybe after that we can really start building towards something.
- 13:09But we have to just get draft picks, we have to trade assets,
- 13:15we have to start from scratch in as many ways as possible. And if
- 13:18you look at a lot of the other moves he's already made. I mean
- 13:20that Hayes trade sucked, but I think we all realize why it had to
- 13:24happen along And you know what, that's another indicator because he's willing to pay
- 13:31three seasons of half of Kevin Hayes salary for nothing, and that says he
- 13:37doesn't expect to compete in the next three seasons because you know how valuable cap
- 13:39space is in the NHL. Yeah. Absolutely, Well, let's move on
- 13:43to some other draft picks here, Steve, and let's be honest. I
- 13:46think that when they drafted Oliver Bonk, who is the Flyer's second pick in
- 13:52the first round, I think that was a kind of a surprise for many
- 13:54of us. I know it was for me, and I think because that
- 13:56was like more of a safe type of pick. I mean the front office
- 14:01and mainly assistant general manager Brent Flower. I think that's how you say his
- 14:05name flower Flower. Yeah, I always go back and forth. Yeah,
- 14:09I say exactly yes. He said that they could possibly see him as a
- 14:16top four defenseman at some point in the future. I don't know about that
- 14:20necessarily. I do want to see what Bonk is able to do in the
- 14:22ice, of course, um I do think from everything that I've read that
- 14:26he has a relatively high ceiling. But what are your thoughts about this particular
- 14:31selection at number twenty two overall, and what it also means for the rebuild.
- 14:35I swear they let Jonesy have this pick. They're like, all right,
- 14:37we get the pre air pick and we get the Jones he pick,
- 14:39right, because Jones he's the big risto guy. Every broadcast he's out there
- 14:43talking about how much he loves risk. Yeah. Yeah, but like,
- 14:48I don't know, it was a surprise. Everybody did have fun when that
- 14:50one came up, though. We started going bunk bunk, yes, I
- 14:54and I know his dad very well from the NHL. I think he was
- 14:56with the Senator. Yes, he was radic bunk when the great NHL names
- 15:01right there. But yeah, that was a surprise pick. I was very
- 15:03surprised they didn't go with Perrot, who was available and the Rangers took right
- 15:07afterwards. And because he was projected more as like a top ten guy,
- 15:11right and for him to slip, I really thought they were going to go
- 15:13and get him. There must be something wrong. I have no idea.
- 15:16It has to be, because he really slipped a lot, and there were
- 15:20some bizarre picks in there. But you know, it's not like the end
- 15:24of the world. But it did feel like a little safe and a little
- 15:26out of left field. Yeah, it absolutely did. All right. Uh,
- 15:30make sure you're following Flypurbole on Twitter. By the way, folks at
- 15:33FLYPURBOLEI and head on over to Broadstreet Hockey dot com. I am a subscriber.
- 15:37They got so much great content over there. I know I've been plugging
- 15:41it on this podcast for quite some time. But there's great people over at
- 15:45Broadstreet Hockey dot com. Steve is one of them, of course, the
- 15:48crew and just does such a great job. And Steve, where can folks
- 15:50find you personally on Twitter if they want to if they want to follow you?
- 15:54I was two accounts. I have to fly Purbole account and my personal
- 15:58account, which is estay Mom and I don't really yeah, I've had that
- 16:03one for a long time, I think since like Twitter was created, like
- 16:07oh eight. But yeah, fly Perbly is the one for hockey purposes,
- 16:10like I would follow fla Purble for that. I don't really do much hockey
- 16:12from the estate mom account. All right. But yeah, and just to
- 16:17back out what you said about subscribing, I mean, the writers have been
- 16:18kicking butt, especially ever since we parted ways with sp Nation, and you
- 16:23know, it's it's it kind of sucks to have to move to a paywall,
- 16:27but it's great to see the support from the people who want quality hockey
- 16:33writing. And I'll tell you what you know. I'm not again a draft
- 16:37expert by any means, but I was brushing up on stuff. I just
- 16:41logged onto the site real quick and read up a couple of articles. I
- 16:44mean, that's what I did too. Yeah, yeah, to shout out,
- 16:47like two people in particular, Maddie and Thomas were just crushing it with
- 16:51all the draft coverage over the weekend. Everybody crushed it, but I know
- 16:52they were the ones, like really in the trenches, like cranking out the
- 16:56articles right there. But yeah, it's some good content. Definitely subscribe and
- 17:00following the old twitters as long as it's still standing. Absolutely how much.
- 17:04I just got on a blue Sky yesterday, so we'll see you, Okay,
- 17:07good for you, Good for you. I was. I was over
- 17:10on masted on trying to do something whatever. I Blues Guy's way easier so
- 17:14far, I did, I did. I've had the Blues Guy for like
- 17:15a day and it looks exactly like Twitter. So awesome, awesome, all
- 17:19right, Well moving along here too, Flyers certainly had some other interesting draft
- 17:23picks as well, Steve. You know, they took a couple of goalies
- 17:26right in a row. I mean that that of course stood out to me.
- 17:30I'm wondering, were there any other draft picks that really stuck out to
- 17:33you? And why I find the goalie situation so fascinating with the draft,
- 17:38because like that was one of the things that I actually kind of appreciated about
- 17:41like Xtall, was he tried to draft every type of goalie at one exactly,
- 17:45here's a big one, here's a fast one, here's a i don't
- 17:48know, like high skill one, you know, yeah, and a couple
- 17:52of them ended a hitting. But like it's goalies are so weird and you
- 17:56really just have to take a lot of swings on goalies to see what happens.
- 17:59So I'm kind of okay with that. I think I prefer to maybe
- 18:03take the swing on the high skilled offensive player because I really feel, like,
- 18:07God, I just want to see speed with the sting. I want
- 18:10to see speed forever. And my most intriguing pick in that regard is my
- 18:15favorite name for the Flyers that they trapped it this year, and that's Denver
- 18:18Barky, which sounds like a dog's name. Frankly western dog's name. You
- 18:25know, Yeah, Denver Barky totally sounds like a dog, and hopefully he
- 18:30is a dog. You know, he's out there, he's just you know,
- 18:32getting in the trenches and crushing it. But he's a speedy center.
- 18:36I'm intrigued by that. Speedy center is one hundred percent the kind of stuff
- 18:40I want to see from this organization. And my hope has been since Brier
- 18:44was hired for being a speedy little guy in the NHL, in the modern
- 18:49NHL, he'll actually have an appreciation for that kind of talent and try to
- 18:53cultivate that because Chuck Fletcher was obsessed with size, right and just trying to
- 18:59get these big bodies in there. You know, I'm still convinced that's half
- 19:03the reason he didn't try to make Johnny getrou work because he's just a little
- 19:06guy. He doesn't want a little guy right, right, exactly exactly,
- 19:10well some I guess, you know. To further our discussion here about the
- 19:12draft, Steve, some of my overall thoughts from my vantage point with regards
- 19:17to this particular Flyers draft was into piggyback off what you were just saying,
- 19:19was that he did take a decent number of quote undersized players, but you
- 19:26know, their players just with a ton of upside, And Danny Brier said
- 19:29they wanted to take some swings on these draft picks, and I think at
- 19:32the end of the day, that's what I love so much about this draft.
- 19:34Just again going back to what I said earlier, I love the aggressiveness
- 19:38of what this draft was from this front office. Their approach was right in
- 19:42line with the way that a rebuilding club should be thinking. That was my
- 19:47overall theme to this draft. I'm wondering what was your overall theme that you
- 19:51took away from Danny Brier's first draft here. Yeah, I agree with you.
- 19:56There really were some swings in this one, going with the undersized guys,
- 19:59which is great because we've seen them pick guys solely for size in the
- 20:03past. Against Samuel Moran, I don't like harping on him. I don't,
- 20:07I really don't, but he was drafted purely for size, and I
- 20:11always forget it was Isaac Radcliffe. Isaac Radcliffe was the other one, like
- 20:15Ron Hextall, drafted him purely because he was big and maybe they could develop
- 20:18into something and he did not remotely pan inte and it's a shame. I
- 20:22wanted him too, but he didn't. I'd rather have a guy who already
- 20:26has skill or even like another one that always cracked me up. Was I
- 20:30think it was Strom? Was it was it Matthew Strom? Yeah? Yeah,
- 20:34yeah, the only one of the Stroms who didn't work out families and
- 20:38because he couldn't skate, he couldn't skate. Got draft a guy can't skate.
- 20:41Yes, I'd rather draft a guy who can't skate that you have to
- 20:45like give a little bit of passing skill to him. Maybe, well,
- 20:47I'd rather have the passing skill, frankly, right then, just the draft
- 20:51a guy who's like big goose. Maybe he'll work out because he's big.
- 20:53Okay, but no like to take those swings, I have to say.
- 20:57But I love that they drafted Mike Connoebial's kid. I was a big Cannoeble
- 21:02fan back in the day, and to see his kid come in is really
- 21:04cool. I hope we were twenty two. That'd be great. But yeah,
- 21:08just these little speedy guys. I need speed in this club so damn
- 21:14bad. It has been quite a while, quite a while for sure,
- 21:17since we have seen speed out on the ice and to close us out here,
- 21:22Steve, you know, I think it's safe to say times have certainly
- 21:26changed and we are truly seeing this new era for the Philadelphia Flyers taking shape.
- 21:32The trading of Ivan prov Rov and Kevin Hayes. They've gained assets and
- 21:36then they had themselves this really nice draft I think where there's a ton of
- 21:40upside. It was aggressive. They're taking swings things that we have not seen
- 21:42from this organization in quite some time. And it's only been a couple of
- 21:48months here with Danny bare at the helm. Should we be feeling this positive
- 21:52so soon about this team's direction? I mean, it's hard not to think
- 21:56so positive, but you know, should we be you know, maybe putting
- 22:00the brakes on here and there? I don't know, what do you think?
- 22:03Well, I can't believe you didn't work in a new era of orangeine
- 22:06there. You had the opportunity right there. It's such an awkward catchphrase,
- 22:08like I know what they're going for, trying to plug the new shade,
- 22:12But come on, guys, that's a weird one. They always come with
- 22:15the weirdest. It's the reason I didn't say it. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:17there is a reason I didn't say I am cautiously optimistic, and I think
- 22:22the Flyers have hurt me so bad in the past decade that like I can't
- 22:26really get like too crazy optimistic. Yeah, but I feel an optimism that
- 22:32I haven't felt in a little bit. Don't go overboard, right, we
- 22:36have to see what Brier does further. And the big thing was, like
- 22:40I was optimistic when Hextall first came on. I was a big supporter of
- 22:42Hextall and like all that, and he burnt me bad at the end there
- 22:45when he's just signing like the Dutch Gretzky over there and everything. Just guys
- 22:49that are just not good at hockey. Your lettera who I think was a
- 22:55trade concession there and played way too much time. Oh my god. It's
- 22:59just like I've been burnt before. But it's a great start. I mean,
- 23:03Hayes trade sucks, but who cares. It's not really a big deal.
- 23:07In fact, it makes the team a little worse, which is better
- 23:10for draft picks next year. It needed to at the end of the day
- 23:12happen. Everybody know it. It was telegraphed a mile away. What are
- 23:17you gonna do. And I mean, frankly, if the Blues just had
- 23:21somehow convinced it wasn't the guy wouldn't wave his NTC to come over here.
- 23:26Oh yeah, yeah, oh my gosh, what Yeah, I'm forgetting it
- 23:29to Crew to Crew. Yes, yes, it's a weird name. It's
- 23:32one that like you either remember you don't. But like, it sucks that
- 23:36the Crew deal didn't work out, because that could have been just huge for
- 23:40hitting the reset button because you get the Sandheim contract out of here, which
- 23:42I like Travis Aandheim, but that's so long that yeah, if you can
- 23:48get out of it, great, but like it would have been nice to
- 23:52have that reset button right there. They're still gonna hit it, Like I
- 23:56really feel like at some point, either Scott Lawton or as Connecting you're going
- 24:00to get traded. I love both those guys. I think they're great.
- 24:03I'd love to see him stick around, but you kind of got to go
- 24:07because they don't really fit the timeline frankly, and you can get valuable assets
- 24:11for them today. So I'm really intrigued to see how those things work out,
- 24:15how this TDA trade ends up looking, because that's I'm pretty sure that's
- 24:19going to happen. At this point, I think even Carolina acknowledge that it's
- 24:22still in the works, and we're a couple of days away, so there's
- 24:26a lot of intriguing things to keep an eye on. But yeah, don't
- 24:30don't get too high yet, folks like, we don't know what kind of
- 24:34players he's going to bring in, because I think a year and a half,
- 24:40two years from now is when you're really going to have the true test
- 24:42of Danny Brier, when you see him try to flip the team into a
- 24:47playoff contender. That's when you really have to be critical because you have to
- 24:51see what kind of NHL players he brings in, what kind of talent he
- 24:53brings in, to say this are these are the guys that are going to
- 24:56get us over the top. Chuck Fletcher chose all of Kevin Hayes's friends and
- 25:02that didn't work out, right. He really tied his you know, tied
- 25:06his boat to Kevin Hayes, and that just did not work out. And
- 25:10Ron Hackstall just never tried to get NHL players, and Paul Holmgren just flew
- 25:14by the seat of his pants, and sometimes it was spectacular and sometimes it
- 25:17was spectacular disaster. But you know, it's it's all about like what he
- 25:22tries to do to get this team to the next level, back to playoff
- 25:26contention in the meantime, just sell Cell Cell, get those draft assets,
- 25:30and we'll see what happens. But you know, I think it's a good
- 25:33start. I really like that provrof trade. I think that was a level
- 25:37of creativity we haven't seen in years from a flyer's GM. Absolutely great way
- 25:41to end it, folks. He is Steve Jaco at Flypurbole on the Twitter
- 25:47dot com and also going over to Broadstreet Hockey dot com. Again, I'm
- 25:51a subscriber. You should subscribe as well, even the five dollar paywall.

- 26:03Yes, why don't you subscribe to some quality? Hi? There you go,
- 26:07There you go, Steve Man. It was great talking to you.
- 26:11I loved having you on. What a great discussion. Come back and join
- 26:14us down the road. We'd love to have you back on my friend absolutely
- 26:17anytime, Jeff, just say the word. It was fantastic talking to Steve
- 26:19man, it was great having him on for the first time. There's just
- 26:22that there's just a lot of energy. I mean, it wasn't just with
- 26:25Steve or within my voice that you probably heard that energy about where this team
- 26:29is going. But I really do like what Steve said towards the end of
- 26:32our conversation, where there's only a couple months of Danny Brier here. We're
- 26:37gonna have to wait and see what happens. And that real test for him
- 26:40is going to come over the course of the next year, perhaps two years,
- 26:44as to whether or not Danny Briere really understands and knows what he needs
- 26:48to do with this organization and team to move it forward during this rebuild.
- 26:51And look, Danny brier is going to make some mistakes, folks. It
- 26:55is not going to be one hundred percent perfect. Am I hoping it's like
- 26:57ninety percent perfect? Yeah, with that ten percent not being a detriment to
- 27:02everything that they're trying to do. Yes, of course, But like I
- 27:06think we need to be patient. Let's ride this hope, let's ride this
- 27:10optimism into the sunset here, because we're feeling good right now and it's just
- 27:15it's really awesome. So again thanks to Steve. I'm looking forward to seeing
- 27:18what this team is going to do down the road. Not too too many
- 27:22offseason acquisitions in terms of free agency, but it's gonna be fun. It's
- 27:26gonna be fun and interesting. So it's gonna do it for us here on
