- 0:20Speaker 2: There is Hey, that's right, love it man, what's going on?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Welcome to Trekcast Everybody, The Galaxy's Most Unpredictable Star Trek Podcast.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I am Scott Strong Beard Bouchers and with me is
- 0:35Speaker 2: Daniel Reyes. Morning, Good morning man. Are you being Uh
- 0:41Speaker 2: it's kind of a rough start to the week. I've
- 0:42Speaker 2: been on vacation all week, kind of a stagation. And yeah, Sunday, well,
- 0:47Speaker 2: Sunday night, just uh, a few hours after the podcast,
- 0:51Speaker 2: the power went out for two oh no, So yeah
- 0:55Speaker 2: we had to you know, we've got a generator and
- 0:58Speaker 2: you know, camping gear and right stuff like that, so
- 1:01Speaker 2: we're we're we're pretty well prepared for longer power out.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It just it's just really inconvenient having to plug in
- 1:09Speaker 2: the refrigerator and run the extension cords. And we've got
- 1:13Speaker 2: a gas fireplace that operates on a light switch and
- 1:18Speaker 2: it works whether the power.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Is on or not.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Okay, talk about the science behind it. Yeah, it's yeah,
- 1:26Speaker 2: so we got cold food, we've got warm people. We're good.
- 1:29Speaker 2: It's just massively inconvenient.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that would be annoying.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Otherwise, it's just been kind of a chill, chill week.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I spent most of the week watching Star Trek the
- 1:42Speaker 2: Motion Picture.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Right because it did so long. Yeah, yeah, that's watched
- 1:49Speaker 3: the last Yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's our big topic. We're we're talking about Star
- 1:52Speaker 2: Trek the Motion Picture. Yeah, nineteen seventy nine classic.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's it's it's something.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, some things to say.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yes, me too, for better or worse for better?
- 2:04Speaker 4: Right right right. I I had a deep dive into
- 2:08Speaker 4: it afterwards because I was like, what is going on
- 2:11Speaker 4: with this movie?
- 2:13Speaker 2: There's a lot to delve into.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Yeah, there is, there actually is, So I can't wait
- 2:18Speaker 4: to talk about it.
- 2:19Speaker 2: The movie that it was an episode that thought it
- 2:21Speaker 2: was a movie.
- 2:21Speaker 4: That yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll definitely jump into that for sure.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And then yeah, before we get into that, we got
- 2:30Speaker 2: some Star Trek news.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Absolutely, yeah, let's get into that Star Trek news all right.
- 2:38Speaker 4: So there's quite a bit of news and I wanted
- 2:41Speaker 4: to get to it. Our first story comes to us
- 2:44Speaker 4: from disgusting film, not disgusting, but discussing.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Like, oh, discussing film.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Discussing film. Yes, I realized I kind of slurred my
- 2:54Speaker 4: words there and I was like, letter, say.
- 2:56Speaker 3: What's going on.
- 2:57Speaker 4: So I don't know if you know, but this week,
- 3:01Speaker 4: earlier this week, there was CinemaCon, and this is where
- 3:04Speaker 4: all of the studios kind of present to the to
- 3:09Speaker 4: the movie theater chains Hey, here's what we got coming
- 3:11Speaker 4: down the pike. I would love for you to help
- 3:13Speaker 4: promote it and put it in theaters and all that
- 3:15Speaker 4: kind of stuff. And so every major studio did a presentation,
- 3:20Speaker 4: Sony Disney and of course Paramount, right oh boy, yeah, yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 4: So the reason I bring this up is we're gonna
- 3:31Speaker 4: go through kind of some of the highlights of Paramount.
- 3:33Speaker 4: We won't go through everything, but of you the highlights,
- 3:36Speaker 4: and then we'll talk about something on the back end
- 3:38Speaker 4: of this.
- 3:39Speaker 3: So okay.
- 3:40Speaker 4: So Paramount they gave their presentation. They talked about how
- 3:44Speaker 4: they're very excited for the upcoming mission Impossible, the Final Reckoning.
- 3:48Speaker 4: There's gonna be a new Smurfs film. They I don't
- 3:51Speaker 4: know if you saw the trailer, but they released the
- 3:53Speaker 4: trailer for a remake of The Naked Gun like a reboot. Yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 4: it looks like it is a It is a reboot,
- 4:02Speaker 4: not a remake, necessarily, because it looks like the original
- 4:05Speaker 4: ones are still in that universe.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it looks like Qui gon Jen's dad.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Was that's right, That's right, was lessen Niels. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:16Speaker 5: Uh.
- 4:16Speaker 4: They also talked about Scream seven and a new Airbender
- 4:22Speaker 4: or Avatar of the Last Airbender film, this time animated.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I don't know if you ever got into that franchise.
- 4:28Speaker 3: No, no, I did. It's pretty good. I like it,
- 4:31Speaker 3: but you know, I'm looking.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Forward to the Final Reckoning, the Mission Possible Final.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Yeah, me too. Those are always solid movies there.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Yeah, regardless how you feel about Tom Cruise, I think
- 4:43Speaker 2: he's a bit of an overactor. I really can't. I
- 4:47Speaker 2: can't stand him as a person, but I think, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 2: you can't die that he's that It's okay movies.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I am excited about those Mission Impossible films. I
- 5:03Speaker 4: have a joke with my buddy that really all these
- 5:05Speaker 4: movies are is uh Tom Cruise on his quest for death?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Because you know, when you're yeah, when you're that rich,
- 5:13Speaker 3: nothing is exciting.
- 5:15Speaker 4: When you have the top tier of life, of everything,
- 5:17Speaker 4: nothing is you know, So the only the only thrill
- 5:20Speaker 4: he gets is trying to kill himself and so we get.
- 5:23Speaker 2: To pay them getting email from the Church of Scientology.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Oh weird, weird discuss Tom Cruise. Yeah, okay, I guess
- 5:35Speaker 2: we're not allowed to talk about scientology.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Then we're not. I'm not no, I'm not gonna talk.
- 5:39Speaker 2: About scientology at all, Danielly, there, I can't hear you.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Exactly, exactly exactly. Also, they talked about Sonic the Hedgehog four.
- 5:50Speaker 4: They're gonna make a fourth one of those. Uh They're
- 5:53Speaker 4: also going to make another teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant
- 5:56Speaker 4: Mayhem two.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Don't sure.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I didn't see the first one. I've I've seen I
- 6:01Speaker 2: think just about every other uh tm n t property. Yeah,
- 6:10Speaker 2: but I don't know if I've seen that.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I saw the first one. I liked it. It's fine.
- 6:14Speaker 3: It's not great, it's not terrible.
- 6:15Speaker 2: It's c G I this is like computer animated or
- 6:19Speaker 2: like animated animation or is this more like.
- 6:24Speaker 3: D Yeah?
- 6:25Speaker 4: I think it is three D, but it looks almost
- 6:29Speaker 4: two D in a way. It's it's an odd animation.
- 6:32Speaker 4: They definitely came up with their own style, which is cool.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Okay, But as long as the story is good, I
- 6:38Speaker 2: mean really yeah animated, I can kind of look past anything.
- 6:42Speaker 4: You know, there's a there's a couple of underrated straight
- 6:45Speaker 4: to DVD Ninja Turtle movies. There's the one Ninja Turtles
- 6:51Speaker 4: Versus Batman.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I saw it, I own it. I own that. Yeah,
- 6:54Speaker 2: there's a little collection.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, that one's really good. And then there's the
- 6:58Speaker 4: Ninja Turtles Forever were they were? They break into the
- 7:02Speaker 4: multi verse and they have other versions of the Turtles.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah, I don't know if I looked. I
- 7:06Speaker 2: watched that.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that one's pretty good too.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Batman. Yeah, in uh, Ninja Turtles and uh Batman Batman
- 7:13Speaker 2: versus Shredder that fight scene yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah that that fight was pretty great. Anyways, back
- 7:21Speaker 4: to the paramount On presentation. So what what I thought
- 7:26Speaker 4: was pretty interesting? And I don't know if you've noticed this,
- 7:31Speaker 4: no mention of Star Trek at all. Yeah, Hey, we've
- 7:36Speaker 4: got a movie in the works that we're protecting for
- 7:39Speaker 4: you know, twenty twenty seven.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Nothing not.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Yeah, So that's where we're at with Star Trek and Paramounts.
- 7:48Speaker 4: So that's that's sad.
- 7:50Speaker 2: My thought is I it seems like it's going well.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Is sky Dance buying it or not? I don't remember they're.
- 7:58Speaker 3: In the process. They're in the process.
- 8:00Speaker 2: The process. Now, okay, because the other bid that I'll
- 8:02Speaker 2: bid them wasn't legit and well.
- 8:05Speaker 3: They don't know. They're they're going to court about.
- 8:06Speaker 2: It, So okay, it does sky Dance. One would think
- 8:10Speaker 2: sky Dance does want and like Star Trek because they've
- 8:13Speaker 2: been involved with Star Trek before. But I don't know.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Yeah, they produced a couple of films, so.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Okay, so you would think so. But I wonder if
- 8:21Speaker 2: whoever buys it wants to spin Star Trek off into
- 8:24Speaker 2: like its own thing or I don't know, just make
- 8:28Speaker 2: it son. I don't know, Star Trek Studios.
- 8:33Speaker 4: You know what I also wonder at this point is
- 8:36Speaker 4: Star Trek just better as a TV show and not movies.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Star Trek is better as a TV show. It's not God,
- 8:46Speaker 2: I just I just want to go to the movie
- 8:48Speaker 2: theater and see, Yeah, Star Trek first contact all over again,
- 8:53Speaker 2: you know, and who doesn't who doesn't? I mean, after
- 8:59Speaker 2: that it just kind of went downhill. If they had
- 9:01Speaker 2: the right people helming film, then yeah, do another film,
- 9:06Speaker 2: don't do a streaming film. Actually, Star Trek has the
- 9:13Speaker 2: balls to make it as a theatrical release.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Right, so do it?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 9:20Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, Well then our next new story it comes
- 9:27Speaker 4: to us from the Verge and I don't know if
- 9:31Speaker 4: you saw this, but along with all the news that
- 9:34Speaker 4: came out in CinemaCon, we did get a new trailer
- 9:39Speaker 4: for Strange New Worlds season three.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, so there was a trailer.
- 9:47Speaker 4: I will play a little bit of it here while
- 9:49Speaker 4: we talk about it. We'll see if we get a
- 9:52Speaker 4: copyright strike on that, but we'll see.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah. So there seems to be a lot going on
- 9:59Speaker 3: with it, a lot of a lot of wackiness. It
- 10:02Speaker 3: looks like a lot.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Of like that looks like alid grid.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Yeah, which shouldn't be but whatever.
- 10:10Speaker 4: But the time travel, Yeah, Paton Noswalt's in there, which
- 10:15Speaker 4: I like that guy.
- 10:16Speaker 3: So that makes me like yeah, yeah.
- 10:20Speaker 4: One thing I thought was interesting is at the end
- 10:21Speaker 4: of the trailer they show us that it will be
- 10:23Speaker 4: returning this summer, which is weird because we got a
- 10:27Speaker 4: release date for Europe but not for America.
- 10:34Speaker 2: That's so that's weird. What is do you know? I
- 10:37Speaker 2: have the release date?
- 10:39Speaker 4: Not not offhand, I want to say it's like August
- 10:43Speaker 4: or something like that.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what it says summer.
- 10:48Speaker 4: And I looked it up the day that it's supposed
- 10:51Speaker 4: to come out in August.
- 10:53Speaker 3: What is what is the UK release date? Can you
- 10:57Speaker 3: look that up?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 10:58Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, peace? No, what is it? Oh? April second
- 11:13Speaker 3: is yeah.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's this summer that.
- 11:18Speaker 3: No April second would be like now, oh.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, oh that's what they're okay, sorry, So I'm
- 11:26Speaker 4: reading about all the previous release dates that have been
- 11:29Speaker 4: blown through and April second was one of them. Really yeah,
- 11:34Speaker 4: so we should be having strange worlds right now, but
- 11:37Speaker 4: we don't.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Uh yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 4: But anyways, there there was a date release for the
- 11:43Speaker 4: UK on Sky I think it is, and when I
- 11:47Speaker 4: looked it up, that's a Friday. Okay, yeah, when I
- 11:51Speaker 4: looked it up, that's a Friday. And so typically they
- 11:55Speaker 4: released Star Trek on a Thursday, so I imagine the day
- 11:58Speaker 4: before would be paramount, but we don't know that for
- 12:01Speaker 4: sure yet. It almost feels like they're waiting to make
- 12:05Speaker 4: the announcement somewhere.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Well okay, why wait, Usually that's a sign that something's
- 12:10Speaker 2: not right.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Mmm or like, I don't I don't think that.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I think trying to generate buzz or yeah.
- 12:19Speaker 3: I think that's what it is.
- 12:21Speaker 4: I think because right now, because they're in such a
- 12:25Speaker 4: holding pattern with Paramounts, any little bit of news that
- 12:28Speaker 4: they can stretch out is promotion. Okay, okay, that's my thought, right,
- 12:35Speaker 4: that's my hoping, you know, trying to look for the
- 12:38Speaker 4: for the positive in this that that's kind of what
- 12:41Speaker 4: I'm thinking, right. Yeah, So like at a comic con
- 12:46Speaker 4: or what is STLV maybe I don't know if that's
- 12:49Speaker 4: in August, but somewhere along that timeframe, they could then announce,
- 12:54Speaker 4: oh yeah, it's coming up next week or two weeks
- 12:56Speaker 4: from now or three, you know, whatever it is at
- 12:59Speaker 4: that point, and they get the blooing group, and you know,
- 13:05Speaker 4: I just.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I don't like all the Yeah, I get what what
- 13:10Speaker 2: they're doing. I understand, you know, especially with what you
- 13:12Speaker 2: just said about paramount and all that. Yeah, just it
- 13:16Speaker 2: makes I think it makes the fans a little wary about,
- 13:19Speaker 2: you know, the future of Track. Can't they already announce
- 13:23Speaker 2: season four?
- 13:26Speaker 3: They announced they're shooting it.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yes, okay, so it's.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Been shot right now?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Okay, well then, yeah, I know that's not a cart
- 13:36Speaker 2: anything either, but that's true.
- 13:38Speaker 3: That's true. You can shoot a whole movies and just.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Get rid of Yeah, all right, but whatever, we got
- 13:44Speaker 4: a new teaser trailer, so that that's what did.
- 13:47Speaker 2: You think about it? What Like, they they've got at
- 13:49Speaker 2: least one episode where they're doing some sort of analog
- 13:54Speaker 2: You saw him running like telephones, I mean yeah, and
- 13:59Speaker 2: well the style it's holophones too, leads leads me to
- 14:02Speaker 2: believe that it's it's some sort of fantasy.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 4: It looks like, yeah, they've got this big goofy set
- 14:08Speaker 4: with switches and.
- 14:10Speaker 2: It looks like what sci fi looked like back in
- 14:13Speaker 2: the fifties.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Yeah, fifties, sixties kind of era.
- 14:19Speaker 4: I think it's hard for me to say because we
- 14:21Speaker 4: don't know the context, right, Like, you can make anything
- 14:24Speaker 4: look really bad or really good out of context.
- 14:27Speaker 3: So so that's tough. It does feel like.
- 14:33Speaker 2: They're like running cables like they're running yeah, tables around
- 14:36Speaker 2: the ship, like they're running from the silods.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, it feels like they're trying new stuff, like
- 14:43Speaker 3: they said, you know, they definitely said, hey, we're gonna
- 14:46Speaker 3: swing for the fences here. We're gonna take some big swings.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Every once in a while, it's okay to bunt.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, for a base.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Yeah. What I do see is we're not getting strange
- 15:01Speaker 4: new worlds as much as we're getting strange new outfits. Yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 4: you know, yeah, and I want strange new worlds. I
- 15:08Speaker 4: want to explore my exploring show.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to explore my exploring show exactly. Yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at, you know, But whatever,
- 15:19Speaker 3: Hopefully it's good. I want to be.
- 15:24Speaker 4: I guess I'm I'm hesitant and I want I want
- 15:27Speaker 4: to be wrong about my hesitancy.
- 15:29Speaker 3: But that's where I'm at with it right now.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, Yeah, it's it's hard to talk about it
- 15:36Speaker 2: without knowing more about it.
- 15:37Speaker 4: So yeah, that's that's the other thing. We don't know enough.
- 15:40Speaker 4: So hopefully, hopefully you know it's good. But all right,
- 15:44Speaker 4: our next new story comes to us from Gizmoto, and
- 15:47Speaker 4: I don't know if you saw this, but they have
- 15:50Speaker 4: announced Wave two of Nacell the Action figures, right, so
- 15:56Speaker 4: we now know we now know more about Wave two.
- 15:58Speaker 4: We're gonna get a Generations Captain Kirk, so that's pretty cool.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I like it. And we also saw some of the accessories.
- 16:04Speaker 4: We're gonna get a horse in firewood and a stump Okay, yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 4: some eggs.
- 16:13Speaker 3: A large browed if you ever leaded a large jar
- 16:19Speaker 3: dilweed for your action figures?
- 16:21Speaker 2: No, but okay, I what after I saw this movie
- 16:25Speaker 2: back in ninety four, okay, I, and I started cooking
- 16:30Speaker 2: on my own. I started looking up what is this
- 16:33Speaker 2: dill weed? What is this dill weed?
- 16:35Speaker 1: So?
- 16:35Speaker 3: Yeah, well what did.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Kirk put it on? He put it on to carry
- 16:38Speaker 2: an eggs. For the last twenty years, I have put
- 16:42Speaker 2: dill on my eggs and everybody who have introduced it
- 16:45Speaker 2: to love Yeah.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Really, yes, I won that.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Go to the store. When you put salt and pepper
- 16:52Speaker 2: on your eggs, scrambled, poach, hardball, doesn't matter, try dill
- 16:58Speaker 2: on yours. It's delicious, okay, And it's all thanks to
- 17:03Speaker 2: that Real Quick seed and generations I I.
- 17:07Speaker 4: I like the idea though, that you're gonna get a
- 17:09Speaker 4: Captain Kirk action figure with a horse and an axe
- 17:13Speaker 4: so he can go into battle with he.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Man with Prince out of Battle cat.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Yes, yes, so that's that's kind of neat.
- 17:24Speaker 4: You know, we did see some more figures that they've announced,
- 17:29Speaker 4: So we're gonna get the Captain Kirk, We're gonna get
- 17:31Speaker 4: a Captain Janeway from from the Year of Hell.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Janeway is what they're saying.
- 17:36Speaker 4: We're gonna get the Sailor uniform wharph'n enterprise to Paul
- 17:43Speaker 4: Sailor Uniform Jordy like the look of that one. Yes,
- 17:48Speaker 4: we're gonna get Valerius from the Undiscovered Country, Romulent Commander
- 17:54Speaker 4: uh Carol Marcus from Rathacon.
- 17:57Speaker 3: We're gonna get a nog and that I'm excited about.
- 18:03Speaker 4: And Bem from the animated series, which I I don't recognize.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I have never seen. We're still We're still you know,
- 18:13Speaker 2: like several months ago I said, I was one episode
- 18:16Speaker 2: in the season two of yeah, or maybe two episodes
- 18:21Speaker 2: of the season two of Star Trek the original series. Yeah,
- 18:23Speaker 2: we're not. We're now like three or four episodes into
- 18:25Speaker 2: the seasons.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Okay, okay, it's a it's a slow watch. Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 18:30Speaker 4: So yeah, those who been clamoring for Bem at last,
- 18:34Speaker 4: you will have your you will have your action.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I wonder for Valarius, I wonder if they're gonna have
- 18:40Speaker 2: a an alternate version of her.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Oh yeah, because there's a.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Do you know the story about how Geene Roddenberry got
- 18:49Speaker 2: super pissed at the actress. Yeah, it was a dog
- 18:54Speaker 2: detachable leg Oh, that that'd be perfect. No, Kim ConTroll
- 19:01Speaker 2: was caught. It was either Gene rowden Berry somebody. It
- 19:03Speaker 2: might have been our Benet. The director caught her on
- 19:07Speaker 2: the bridge set take doing a nude photo shoot.
- 19:11Speaker 3: What I didn't know this?
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah, oh wow, Yeah, Kim Cantrell. She's other than Valais.
- 19:18Speaker 2: She's famous for being one. Yeah.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Oh our other podcast.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yes that's right, the one we do on Saturdays.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Yes, that's right.
- 19:33Speaker 4: But which one of these figures are you most excited about? Uh?
- 19:37Speaker 2: You know, I like the nog I like the kirk uh,
- 19:41Speaker 2: and I like the LaForge just because they're visually I
- 19:45Speaker 2: think interesting.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I agree.
- 19:49Speaker 2: You know, Wharf depending on what he comes. You know,
- 19:51Speaker 2: Warf should come with a plank, Yes, a plank, Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 2: and uh, Jordie should come with a he put but
- 19:59Speaker 2: not in the movie. He actually put binocular or a
- 20:02Speaker 2: monocular up to his advisor.
- 20:08Speaker 4: He was looking at Oh dog Dog Green is sent.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Has anyone heard about the official star trek Lego sets.
- 20:16Speaker 4: There's a flirting rumors at the beginning of the year,
- 20:18Speaker 4: and then nothing.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I saw a picture somewhere, but Uh, yeah, there's been
- 20:24Speaker 2: mock ups people have like kind of given their ideas.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Yeah, we don't know anything else new right now. It's
- 20:34Speaker 4: just the information came out at the beginning of the year.
- 20:36Speaker 4: I think they're scheduled to come out like right around
- 20:38Speaker 4: Christmas time if they do come out, okay, so I imagine
- 20:43Speaker 4: we'll learn more in the summer.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Uh. I also want to know, Uh, war should come
- 20:49Speaker 3: with the blue barrel. Yes, oh, I should, yes, absolutely
- 20:53Speaker 3: should come with a blue barrel.
- 20:55Speaker 2: And uh, let's see, Valera should come with like, you know,
- 20:58Speaker 2: two other vulcan hands grab in her face, yeah, rape
- 21:02Speaker 2: mind meld oh geez. And Kirk should come with a
- 21:07Speaker 2: partial mangled bridge wrapped around.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Him, right right right yeah, And.
- 21:15Speaker 2: And Paul should come with a a very like sweaty,
- 21:19Speaker 2: horny trip character.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Just following her around everywhere, right right, yeah, all right,
- 21:27Speaker 4: And uh then our last news story comes to us
- 21:29Speaker 4: from screen rants. This is pretty quick, but I thought
- 21:33Speaker 4: it was fun to share. So do you know who
- 21:36Speaker 4: Todd McFarlane is. Name sounds familiar, Okay, So he's the
- 21:41Speaker 4: guy behind Spawn. He created spine yep, yep. He also
- 21:47Speaker 4: created the design for Venom. It's a comic book artist
- 21:51Speaker 4: also has a very successful toy company. But he recently
- 21:55Speaker 4: was asked and he gave his idea for the perfect
- 21:58Speaker 4: casting of Batman, especially with James Gunn going to have
- 22:02Speaker 4: his own Batman in the DCU as opposed to the
- 22:05Speaker 4: Matt Reeves Batman. And you won't believe who he picked
- 22:09Speaker 4: who he thinks would be the perfect Batman. Oh boy,
- 22:12Speaker 4: he picked Zachary Quinto. And he cited Zachary Quinto's as spot.
- 22:19Speaker 4: He says, I'm not great with Hollywood names, but there's
- 22:21Speaker 4: an actor. He might be a little too old, but
- 22:23Speaker 4: he was spocking the Star Trek movies and he was
- 22:26Speaker 4: in Margin Call. That's Zachary Quinto.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Oh okay, Well yeah.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Everybody who's shaking their head and going, that's the dumbest
- 22:33Speaker 2: thing I've ever heard, think back to the Spock Con
- 22:36Speaker 2: fight scene. Right, Zachary Quinto can hold his own in
- 22:41Speaker 2: a fight scene, right.
- 22:43Speaker 4: And so Tom McFarland is dain is basically Zachary can
- 22:47Speaker 4: play somber really well. He can play serious really well.
- 22:50Speaker 4: And those are two big traits you need for Batman.
- 22:53Speaker 2: And if he can get on the Tom Hardy like
- 22:58Speaker 2: diet and exercises to turn Tom Hardy from the I've
- 23:04Speaker 2: Got a waistline of a fourteen year old girl shins
- 23:06Speaker 2: on and Star Trek Nemesis to reain.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Uh huh, then why not? Right right?
- 23:16Speaker 2: See? I mean whenever we hear actors' names like this,
- 23:18Speaker 2: we're like, oh, who would make a good Superman? Oh
- 23:20Speaker 2: so and so? Or who would make a good Batman? Oh,
- 23:22Speaker 2: Alan Richson or whoever you name. Ben Affleck, you know,
- 23:25Speaker 2: your initial shock or your initial like e, just because
- 23:29Speaker 2: you've never thought of it. I think you need to
- 23:32Speaker 2: sort of cast aside those those kind of doubts and
- 23:37Speaker 2: thoughts and just go back to some of the the
- 23:41Speaker 2: roles that they've had that were batman like. You know,
- 23:44Speaker 2: for as soon as you said Zachary Quinto, my first
- 23:46Speaker 2: thought was eh, and then I thought, hold on a second.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Zachary Quinto did that amazing fight scene and in the
- 23:53Speaker 2: Star Trek, you know, wrap the contra.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I mean, he was pretty menacing as Siler in The Heroes,
- 23:59Speaker 3: he was yep, so he can be intense.
- 24:02Speaker 2: So I don't hate it.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Hey, I love it, like I could see it, but
- 24:08Speaker 3: I don't it's not my first what's the guy's name again,
- 24:13Speaker 3: it suggested this Todd McFarlane.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Todd McFarlane, yeh. And the reason why his name sounded
- 24:18Speaker 2: familiar he's been at one of the comic cons that
- 24:20Speaker 2: I've been to.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Oh okay, yeah, yeah, yeah he Uh, he's kind of
- 24:26Speaker 3: popular up here where I live because he went to
- 24:31Speaker 3: Eastern Washington University, which is kind of by Spokane.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Okay, okay, so yeah, it's it's.
- 24:38Speaker 4: The whole thing up here. But yeah, so there you go,
- 24:41Speaker 4: Todd McFarlane. Sam Zachary Quinto should be Batman, and uh,
- 24:45Speaker 4: that's our news story.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Is my favorite for Batman is Alan Ritson.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yeah. I like him better as Aquaman, even though he
- 24:55Speaker 3: already played Aquaman.
- 24:56Speaker 2: You know, if they actually cast recap, it's we've rarely
- 25:01Speaker 2: seen that though we're you know, people were like, all
- 25:06Speaker 2: the new Flash would be Grant Gusta, right, but you
- 25:09Speaker 2: never see that.
- 25:10Speaker 3: It just yeah, you know.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Where they go to the same a different franchise, but
- 25:15Speaker 2: same character. It's right, not done.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Often, it's not done often. I'm just saying, you know,
- 25:22Speaker 3: but all right, well let's uh, let's get to our
- 25:28Speaker 3: main topic. Commence, Yeah, motion picture fun will now commence.
- 25:40Speaker 4: All right, So since we went through the uh, the
- 25:45Speaker 4: Kelvin films. We're not going to go through the original films,
- 25:48Speaker 4: and we start with Star Trek. The motion picture originally
- 25:51Speaker 4: released in nineteen seventy nine, before I was born.
- 25:57Speaker 2: A year after I was born, so yeah.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yeah, a year before me, so pretty close.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Came out in December of seventy nine, so it
- 26:08Speaker 2: was kind of a Christmas.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Movie December seventh, nineteen seventy nine.
- 26:13Speaker 4: It had a run time of one hundred and thirty
- 26:15Speaker 4: two minutes, with a budget of about forty four million.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Which at the time was the most expensive feature film.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Right right, So a little bit of background. I kind
- 26:28Speaker 3: of read up on this a little bit. So this
- 26:31Speaker 3: movie was made at a.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Time when originally they were looking to resurrect Star Trek,
- 26:38Speaker 4: but as a TV show. They were going to do
- 26:40Speaker 4: what they called Star Trek Phase two. That was the
- 26:44Speaker 4: original plan. But then they saw the success of Star
- 26:48Speaker 4: Wars and they said, well, we got a Star show.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Let's uh, we want we want Star show. We got
- 26:56Speaker 4: a Star show. We want some of that sweet sweet chedddar.
- 26:59Speaker 2: So it's like trying to get a bunch of people
- 27:01Speaker 2: to a classical music concert after they've just seen a
- 27:05Speaker 2: really cool rock band concert, right.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Right, right right.
- 27:10Speaker 4: So so as studio executives think, you know, hey, they
- 27:16Speaker 4: both have star in it. It's the same, we'll do that.
- 27:19Speaker 4: And so they made they made a movie. They made
- 27:23Speaker 4: a movie, and it's a movie. They decided they decided
- 27:29Speaker 4: to uh because they were already working on Phase two.
- 27:32Speaker 4: So they had a bunch of scripts written for that.
- 27:34Speaker 4: They took one of their favorites and decided to stretch
- 27:37Speaker 4: out a forty five minute script into a two and
- 27:40Speaker 4: a half hour movie basically, and and you feel that
- 27:44Speaker 4: as you watch.
- 27:44Speaker 2: It very much. So there were script changes all The
- 27:49Speaker 2: last script change was about three and a half hours ago. Okay, yes,
- 27:54Speaker 2: they they They were making script changes and set design
- 27:58Speaker 2: changes forever. In fact, the Vegure set, the main Vedure set,
- 28:04Speaker 2: was so large that they were filming on one end
- 28:08Speaker 2: of it while simultaneously finishing up construction on the other end.
- 28:13Speaker 2: So if you can imagine that they're filming actors acting
- 28:17Speaker 2: in the way actors do with film, in the way
- 28:19Speaker 2: cameras do, while people on the other end of the
- 28:22Speaker 2: stage are pounding nails and everything together. So just crazy.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Yeah, this this film got mixed reviews at the time.
- 28:34Speaker 4: Most fans were some liked it, some didn't. It was
- 28:39Speaker 4: definitely different, for sure. But we did see the whole
- 28:43Speaker 4: cast return, So that was neat the.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Let's see because a.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Lot of people didn't want to Some actors didn't want
- 28:53Speaker 2: to come back. Didn't want to come back because he
- 28:56Speaker 2: was having an issue with Paramount because they were used
- 29:00Speaker 2: in his likeness in advertising syndicated star trek Okay, so
- 29:06Speaker 2: you know, and uh, just a lot of people didn't
- 29:09Speaker 2: want to come back because they figured, you know, this
- 29:11Speaker 2: was done. And but Robert Wise and and some other people,
- 29:16Speaker 2: Robert rise was the director, convinced, you know, they were
- 29:19Speaker 2: able to convince ultimately that everybody should come back. A
- 29:23Speaker 2: few extra including a few extra people like Janis Rand,
- 29:27Speaker 2: the actress that plays Yoman Rand. She was actually not
- 29:31Speaker 2: doing so hot. I was dealing with a little bit
- 29:33Speaker 2: of addiction and I had some money problems, and William
- 29:37Speaker 2: Shatner convinced Leonard Nimoy to help him get her a
- 29:42Speaker 2: role on the movie.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Right, yeah, the movie. What would you say was the
- 29:49Speaker 4: plot of the film? We we start out with Kirk
- 29:54Speaker 4: is no longer in charge of the enterprise. Right, we
- 29:57Speaker 4: have we have a different captain the Decker it right, yeah, right,
- 30:03Speaker 4: And it starts basically with uh, kirk, there there's been this,
- 30:09Speaker 4: It's well okay.
- 30:10Speaker 3: So it starts with there's this cloud in space.
- 30:15Speaker 4: The Klingons went to go check it out, and and
- 30:18Speaker 4: they got attacked by the cloud and it instantly killed
- 30:22Speaker 4: three Klingon ships. Yes, and because of that, the Federation
- 30:27Speaker 4: is freaking out because this cloud is on its way to.
- 30:29Speaker 2: The Earthling the lead Klingon played by Mark Leonard.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Right, So at the current trajectory, it's a few play
- 30:41Speaker 4: but it is coming and they don't know what it is.
- 30:43Speaker 4: They cannot communicate with it, they cannot stop it. They
- 30:46Speaker 4: they need to figure it out. And so they're gonna
- 30:49Speaker 4: send the Enterprise because lo and behold, the Enterprise is
- 30:52Speaker 4: the only ship in the area.
- 30:53Speaker 3: And so and because the Enterprises, and.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Because Decker is new to the Enterprise, because the Enterprise
- 31:04Speaker 4: is getting refit it's a completely new ship, they decide
- 31:08Speaker 4: they're gonna send her in charge of the Enterprise because
- 31:12Speaker 4: he has so much experience with the unknown. So he
- 31:17Speaker 4: basically bigfoots Captain Decker and he takes this takes the command,
- 31:26Speaker 4: which is kind of a jerk move in my mind.
- 31:29Speaker 2: But right, well, they had only been done with their
- 31:32Speaker 2: five Here's an interesting tidbit too, This movie takes place.
- 31:36Speaker 2: This movie was came out ten years after the original
- 31:39Speaker 2: series was, right, but the movie takes place four years
- 31:44Speaker 2: after we last saw them, So the five year mission
- 31:47Speaker 2: had just gotten done, and then they spent eighteen months
- 31:49Speaker 2: refitting the Enterprise, and then it's supposed to be just
- 31:52Speaker 2: four years later, which is why they they used some
- 31:57Speaker 2: lighting techniques and some makeup techniques to make these actors
- 32:01Speaker 2: appear about the same age, right, And I even read
- 32:06Speaker 2: on IMDb that Kurt that William Shatton was wearing a
- 32:09Speaker 2: kirdle and you can actually see the lines of it
- 32:12Speaker 2: in some of the scenes. And then for the subsequent movies,
- 32:15Speaker 2: they decided, okay, let's just make aging part of the story.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Let's just you know, do it in real time, right, right, So,
- 32:24Speaker 4: so the Enterprise goes out, it's it's trying to investigate
- 32:28Speaker 4: the cloud they you know, Kirk very wisely decides, hey,
- 32:33Speaker 4: we're not gonna do a red alert. We're not going
- 32:35Speaker 4: to have shields and photons you know, and torpedoes ready
- 32:38Speaker 4: to go. Let's just go and inspect it. Let's look
- 32:42Speaker 4: as passive as possible, and that seems to work, and
- 32:46Speaker 4: they're investigating this cloud. They find out that the cloud.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Is named Vegure.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Because it starts scanning them, it kills one of their
- 32:56Speaker 4: crew members, and then later somehow applicates that crew member
- 33:01Speaker 4: like a exact copy.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Is my understanding? U? Yeah, it's mechanism.
- 33:08Speaker 2: They kept saying that over and over the movie. It's
- 33:10Speaker 2: a mechanism. It's a mechanism, yes, god seventy nine mechanism.
- 33:17Speaker 6: Yes.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah. The first twelve times I watched this movie, it
- 33:21Speaker 2: wasn't real clear to me what yeah they were talking about, Like,
- 33:24Speaker 2: what do you mean it's a mechanism, Like, you know,
- 33:26Speaker 2: if this movie had come out today, they would have explained, oh,
- 33:29Speaker 2: they took Iliyah's you know, down to the DNA and
- 33:33Speaker 2: memory and grams and trance and created a robot body
- 33:37Speaker 2: to blah blah. They didn't really explain that very clearly.
- 33:40Speaker 3: No, yeah, and so.
- 33:46Speaker 4: Uh they end up our Vjur ends up creating a
- 33:49Speaker 4: perfect mechanism of the of the person that that Vedrire killed.
- 33:55Speaker 3: And and it was a Dalton.
- 33:57Speaker 4: It was a Dalton, And so that becomes the the
- 34:00Speaker 4: person they can talk to and ask future questions, and
- 34:05Speaker 4: so they are able to contact Veature and talk to
- 34:07Speaker 4: Vegure and it ends up I mean spoilers if you
- 34:11Speaker 4: haven't seen this very old film, but it ends up.
- 34:15Speaker 4: Vegure is actually Voyager, one of the space pros we
- 34:19Speaker 4: sent out during the Space Race, and it was designed
- 34:23Speaker 4: to just accumulate information. And so that's why Vture was
- 34:26Speaker 4: going around just looking for information and had somehow fell
- 34:32Speaker 4: through what they estimated fell through a black hole, ended
- 34:35Speaker 4: up on the other side of the of the galaxy
- 34:38Speaker 4: and that meant a it meant a robot planet. So
- 34:42Speaker 4: Cybertron right and the Transformers fixed it, fixed it up
- 34:46Speaker 4: and turned it into.
- 34:47Speaker 2: It to its own creator.
- 34:51Speaker 3: That's right, that's right.
- 34:52Speaker 2: So yeah, so yeah, Voyager six. Uh. In reality, in
- 34:59Speaker 2: real life, there was only two Voyager spacecraft that were
- 35:02Speaker 2: launched and the fifties or sixties. One of them, Voyager one,
- 35:07Speaker 2: is actually the only man made object ever to reach
- 35:12Speaker 2: interstellar space.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Oh wow.
- 35:14Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 7: Yeah, there's been some other things in the news about
- 35:19Speaker 7: Voyager one or two. They've they've i mean, these things
- 35:22Speaker 7: are still operating after you know, sixty years.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Yeah, they don't make them they used to.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Right, that's pretty it's pretty amazing. It takes an unbelievable
- 35:32Speaker 2: amount of time for a message to get sent back,
- 35:34Speaker 2: and they're running on on solar power and uh yeah,
- 35:38Speaker 2: in the sidebar, people should look up the Voyager one
- 35:41Speaker 2: and two missions of the pretty but yeah, this one's
- 35:44Speaker 2: Voyager six.
- 35:47Speaker 3: M hm.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, and Decker and Iliah were actually uh they
- 35:52Speaker 2: modeled Riker and Troy after them. So right, right, and
- 35:57Speaker 2: you know a lot of a lot of stuff, would
- 36:00Speaker 2: you know, would you Oh? Yeah, right, So a lot
- 36:05Speaker 2: of this, a lot of the things that they were
- 36:07Speaker 2: gonna make into the show. You know, this is gonna
- 36:09Speaker 2: be Star Trek Phase two, Like you said, a lot
- 36:14Speaker 2: of these elements would be carried over to Star Trek
- 36:16Speaker 2: Connection Arnation, which would come out right eight years later.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:25Speaker 4: So basically they talk Vegure down and they're able to
- 36:31Speaker 4: find the original because you know, Voyager came from NASA
- 36:35Speaker 4: and at this point NASA is long dead agency and
- 36:39Speaker 4: so it took a while, but Starfleet Command is able
- 36:41Speaker 4: to figure out the response codes, because that's what Veger
- 36:45Speaker 4: is looking for, is the response code saying hey, you're back.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Homes don't don't kill anything anymore.
- 36:51Speaker 2: And after three hundred years they happen to have those response.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Codes and somewhere yeah.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Yeah, and so they get the codes vatures like okay,
- 37:01Speaker 4: veach your phone.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Home and and and starts downloading all the information and accumulated.
- 37:08Speaker 3: So we're good to go there. Yeah, I'm here, okay.
- 37:17Speaker 4: So so yeah, so so that's how it ends that
- 37:21Speaker 4: everything's fine. They get all the information. It's explored for Starfleet.
- 37:27Speaker 4: So now it's just giving them all their information and
- 37:31Speaker 4: we're done. Now, I guess like it's yeah, yeah, it's
- 37:39Speaker 4: it's definitely. There's a lot a lot of just really
- 37:43Speaker 4: long shots for no reason other than we spent a
- 37:47Speaker 4: lot of money on these models, so we're going to
- 37:49Speaker 4: get our money's worth, right.
- 37:51Speaker 2: There was an excruciatingly long shot at the beginning of
- 37:54Speaker 2: the reintroduction of the original refit Enterprise.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Yep.
- 38:02Speaker 2: And you know, I understand why they have to do that.
- 38:05Speaker 2: They have to make it movie worthy. You know, the
- 38:08Speaker 2: original Enterprise would have looked ridiculous on the on the
- 38:11Speaker 2: big screen, and that's why they did the same thing
- 38:14Speaker 2: in in in generations. They had to get rid of
- 38:16Speaker 2: the enterprise d because it's lines proportions. The models didn't
- 38:19Speaker 2: film well on on feature films, right, But you know,
- 38:26Speaker 2: I didn't have really a problem with that. The soundtrack,
- 38:33Speaker 2: the main theme was from They reused that and start
- 38:37Speaker 2: Trek Connect generation mm hmm. And another thing, buddy of
- 38:45Speaker 2: my good friend of mine, Gabe, sent me this something
- 38:48Speaker 2: I didn't know about. The sound they made for Vedure
- 38:53Speaker 2: was made by a blaster beam instrument.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Anybody should You should google that. It's it basically looks
- 39:02Speaker 2: like a sixteen foot long guitar, right and very cool,
- 39:07Speaker 2: very cool. Yeah, that's what made that unique sound.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:14Speaker 4: Majel Barrett also returned as Christine Chappel, so that was cool.
- 39:18Speaker 4: And yeah, so that's cool.
- 39:22Speaker 2: And that's one thing I was talking to my wife
- 39:24Speaker 2: about is that a cop I don't think that's a
- 39:26Speaker 2: common path to go from nurse to doctor.
- 39:29Speaker 3: It is typically not, as far as I understand.
- 39:32Speaker 2: I mean, I get why a layperson might think that,
- 39:34Speaker 2: like you go from you know, like you should in
- 39:38Speaker 2: my mind, why why can't you just with more education
- 39:40Speaker 2: go from nurse to physician assistant to m D. But
- 39:44Speaker 2: they're they're different paths of medicine.
- 39:49Speaker 4: From what I understand, it's more common to go to
- 39:52Speaker 4: physics physicians assistant to doctor.
- 39:56Speaker 5: Right.
- 39:57Speaker 3: That that's more along the lines.
- 40:00Speaker 2: If you're a nurse and you get more education, you
- 40:02Speaker 2: become a higher rated nurse.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:07Speaker 2: I've got cousins. I've got cousins, a lot of cousins
- 40:09Speaker 2: that are nurses.
- 40:10Speaker 3: I think you can even get a doctorate in nursing.
- 40:13Speaker 2: I think you can too.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Because.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Like I said, I think it's a different, Like it's
- 40:17Speaker 2: still medical related, but it's like a.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Different it's different.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:22Speaker 4: Like the way I've had it explained is like doctors
- 40:26Speaker 4: are figuring out what the issues are. Nursings are like
- 40:29Speaker 4: figuring out how to alleviate symptoms. Right, right, So it's yeah,
- 40:33Speaker 4: it's a little bit different.
- 40:37Speaker 3: But I could be wrong. If we're wrong, let us
- 40:39Speaker 3: know and that will take you.
- 40:41Speaker 2: The Internet never never lets people.
- 40:43Speaker 3: An internet is just passive. They never wanted to correct.
- 40:47Speaker 2: They would never say anything like.
- 40:48Speaker 4: No, they would never know. The Internet's fine, It's totally fine.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Another thing too, that's brought up in this film that
- 40:55Speaker 4: I thought was interesting. It starts out with uh or
- 40:59Speaker 4: at least where it introduced to Spock trying to do
- 41:02Speaker 4: the colinar where he's purging all of his motions to
- 41:06Speaker 4: be fully cling or fully vulcan. And uh so when
- 41:11Speaker 4: he returns to the ship, he's kind of a little
- 41:14Speaker 4: bit cold at first, he's like dressed in black. He's
- 41:20Speaker 4: a little bit Yeah, he's emospach.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Right, emospoch exactly, yeah, exactly.
- 41:25Speaker 4: He warms up a little bit, but uh eventually, but
- 41:29Speaker 4: at first he's just very just does not care. He
- 41:32Speaker 4: even mentions too that that he can feel a presence
- 41:35Speaker 4: from Vigure and that Vegure is perfect logic, which then
- 41:40Speaker 4: you know, is kind of a nod to it's a
- 41:42Speaker 4: huge it's a robot.
- 41:44Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, I was just gonna look at some
- 41:49Speaker 2: of the uh uh purses. I'm gonna get this name right.
- 41:53Speaker 2: She played Aliyah Pursis Cambata. She's an Indian actress from
- 41:59Speaker 2: uh Bombay. She was born in nineteen forty eight. Tragically,
- 42:02Speaker 2: she died in nineteen ninety eight at the age of
- 42:06Speaker 2: forty nine. Oh wow, I thought she did a great job.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Not a lot of.
- 42:16Speaker 2: What was her race again, Dalton's not a lot of
- 42:18Speaker 2: Daltons that we've seen. We saw one in the Last
- 42:21Speaker 2: Star Trek movie in section three.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Yeah, we saw one on on section thirty one, and
- 42:25Speaker 4: apparently they make you very amorous.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Yes, that's I like the word. Yeah. In fact, I
- 42:34Speaker 2: watched when I watched the movie last night, I also
- 42:36Speaker 2: watched all the deleted scenes, okay, because I you know,
- 42:40Speaker 2: I like you suffer for the people. And there's there's
- 42:45Speaker 2: a scene where somebody asked to Kay, somebody asked, Sulu
- 42:51Speaker 2: show Aliyah. Who's Sulu's at the helm? And Leah, I
- 42:54Speaker 2: guess is it ops? And I think Decker asked him,
- 42:58Speaker 2: I need you to show her the button sequence or whatever,
- 43:01Speaker 2: and he kind of gets up and stumbles a little
- 43:04Speaker 2: bit as if he's Arousal Oh, okay, it's it's a
- 43:10Speaker 2: funny scene.
- 43:11Speaker 3: Oh that's interesting. That's interesting.
- 43:15Speaker 2: So yeah, good actress. Uh, you did a good job
- 43:20Speaker 2: on that. Yeah.
- 43:25Speaker 3: What did you think of the movie? Did you enjoy it?
- 43:27Speaker 1: Did you not?
- 43:29Speaker 2: You know, it's it's funny because I was talking to
- 43:32Speaker 2: my wife last night about this. I'm watching all these
- 43:35Speaker 2: movies with a fresh pair of eyes. Yeah, and these
- 43:39Speaker 2: these fresh pair of eyes are that of a Star
- 43:44Speaker 2: Trek podcaster, right right, Okay, So i I'm I'm taking
- 43:49Speaker 2: mental notes when Yeah, and I was I wouldn't before.
- 43:52Speaker 2: And I'm also watching special features, some of which I
- 43:56Speaker 2: wouldn't watch before. I'm reading notes and things like that
- 43:59Speaker 2: going online. Yeah, I have an understanding a little bit
- 44:04Speaker 2: more of appreciation for what they were trying to do
- 44:07Speaker 2: and some of the constraints they were under, some of
- 44:09Speaker 2: the time constraints, and they were being rushed. And it
- 44:12Speaker 2: went from a you know, let's revive it to Star
- 44:14Speaker 2: Trek phase two. Oh no, we want to make turn
- 44:18Speaker 2: this into a motion picture. Now we have to rewrate
- 44:20Speaker 2: the script and there's can be a lot of chefs
- 44:24Speaker 2: in the kitchen and you know. So I although the
- 44:28Speaker 2: movie was very very flawed and it was very very
- 44:31Speaker 2: slow paced, I really liked the story. I liked the
- 44:39Speaker 2: visual effects were I see And that's another thing. I
- 44:43Speaker 2: watched the Blu Ray version, which had updated visual effects.
- 44:47Speaker 2: And so one of the things I was trying to
- 44:48Speaker 2: do is differentiate going, Oh I remember the original one.
- 44:53Speaker 2: It looked like this, and now it looks like that.
- 44:55Speaker 2: So they didn't like completely redo it. They didn't like
- 44:59Speaker 2: Star War was it, you know where they added a
- 45:02Speaker 2: bunch of extra stuff. What they allowed them to do
- 45:06Speaker 2: was go ahead and finish what your original plan was.
- 45:09Speaker 2: So instead of Matt paintings, they made it digital and
- 45:12Speaker 2: so it looked a little better. Yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 1: But I.
- 45:20Speaker 2: You know, there's not a lot of Star Trek movies
- 45:23Speaker 2: that I don't like, right, I wouldn't. This is like
- 45:29Speaker 2: fifty to fifty for me.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it's on the lower tier maybe.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's definitely on the lower tier. But I
- 45:35Speaker 2: do appreciate what they were trying to do.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I watching it, I realized I'd never seen this
- 45:43Speaker 4: full full film. Oh really clips, Yeah, but I'd never
- 45:47Speaker 4: seen the whole thing by itself. Okay, And I watched
- 45:52Speaker 4: it without reading anything about it. I didn't know any
- 45:54Speaker 4: of the background. But I'm sitting there watching it, and
- 45:56Speaker 4: I'm going, this was an episode and they just stretched
- 45:59Speaker 4: it out very very clearly that and then I read
- 46:02Speaker 4: it that's exactly what it is.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it felt to me, and I mentioned this to
- 46:07Speaker 2: my wife last night, this feels like watching because it's
- 46:10Speaker 2: a long movie. This feels like watching three original series
- 46:14Speaker 2: episodes and one of them's good.
- 46:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, and I felt like it was just yeah,
- 46:22Speaker 4: I felt like it was just one episode that they
- 46:24Speaker 4: stretched out that that's why, Like, if you took all
- 46:27Speaker 4: the long shots out of it, you're gonna drop already
- 46:30Speaker 4: half an hour out of this movie. Oh and that's
- 46:32Speaker 4: not that's not a joke. Like it is literally that
- 46:36Speaker 4: many long shots, right.
- 46:39Speaker 2: The introduction of the enterprise is famously long. Yeah.
- 46:43Speaker 3: I think it's like four or five minutes, which is
- 46:46Speaker 3: a lot of time movie.
- 46:47Speaker 2: In movie time. That's that's four or five pages of script.
- 46:51Speaker 3: The character credits are forever.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I got confused because on my Blu ray copy. Yeah,
- 46:59Speaker 2: I put Blu Ray in, I get through the menus,
- 47:02Speaker 2: and I finally go to push play, and the screen
- 47:06Speaker 2: black ends and for a solid two minutes they play
- 47:12Speaker 2: Star Trekish music. Yeah, and I thought there was something
- 47:16Speaker 2: wrong with my video.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Yeah, And.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Just as out so you experienced this too, Just as
- 47:22Speaker 2: I was watching on my stream, Yeah, okay, just as
- 47:24Speaker 2: I was about to like mess with the AV connection,
- 47:27Speaker 2: my HDMI connection, the video popped out, like the paramount
- 47:30Speaker 2: floger came out. I'm like, I don't what the hell
- 47:33Speaker 2: was that?
- 47:34Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, I.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Guess they were trying to, you know, put us in
- 47:37Speaker 2: the mood.
- 47:39Speaker 4: They were trying to pad the time. Man, I'm looking
- 47:41Speaker 4: at the Rotten Tomato scores. Critically, I had a fifty
- 47:44Speaker 4: two percent, so half and half liked it. With the
- 47:48Speaker 4: with the audience it was a forty two so even
- 47:51Speaker 4: less people liked it.
- 47:53Speaker 2: And these are current you know, obviously, Yeah, it'll still
- 47:56Speaker 2: exist in nineteen seventy nine.
- 47:58Speaker 6: Yeah, So.
- 48:01Speaker 2: You know, as a hardcore Star Trek fan, I you know,
- 48:04Speaker 2: it's it's nice to see Kirk. It's an enterprise and Scottie, right,
- 48:09Speaker 2: and you know all all these people and familiar elements
- 48:13Speaker 2: hearing Starfleet that you know, but it's just really long.
- 48:17Speaker 3: Well, and I think what's very Jarry, especially for you
- 48:20Speaker 3: and me, is we just saw the Kelvin films, which
- 48:23Speaker 3: is nothing but non stop action, right, and it just
- 48:27Speaker 3: moves right.
- 48:27Speaker 2: And then we're going to ye and amazing visuals.
- 48:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Yeah, a couple of nice scenes though. One that I
- 48:35Speaker 2: wanted to mention was the gathering scene at the beginning
- 48:38Speaker 2: of the film when he gets he's like assembled a crew. Yes,
- 48:42Speaker 2: it's the first time in Star Trek history, and I
- 48:45Speaker 2: don't think there's been a lot of times since then
- 48:47Speaker 2: where it visually it looks like the entire crew like
- 48:50Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty two hundred people are actually in
- 48:52Speaker 2: that room, and those are all extras, and most of
- 48:56Speaker 2: them are just Star Trek fans.
- 48:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 48:59Speaker 2: In fact, in the DV in the commentary, in the
- 49:01Speaker 2: one of the extra scenes, they do an interview with
- 49:04Speaker 2: five or six of the people that were actually they're
- 49:07Speaker 2: just regular people. They're just that were that were in that. Yeah,
- 49:11Speaker 2: that extra scene. They just talked about you know, how'd
- 49:14Speaker 2: you get on? How'd you get on? You know? So yeah, yeah, right,
- 49:20Speaker 2: right exactly. So I thought that was that was cool
- 49:22Speaker 2: because normally when you hear like Captain Jane Waite assemble
- 49:25Speaker 2: the crew in cargo Bay one and there's like the
- 49:27Speaker 2: senior staff plus like three people.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Yeah right, right right, So I did like that scene. Yeah,
- 49:37Speaker 3: I like that scene too. I like that there was
- 49:38Speaker 3: a couple of people clearly in makeup, you know, to
- 49:41Speaker 3: be Aliens.
- 49:41Speaker 4: That was pretty cool. There's a there was an indoor
- 49:44Speaker 4: in there that I saw a few others, you know.
- 49:50Speaker 4: I the sets were impressive, especially nowadays where a lot
- 49:53Speaker 4: of that would just be computer generated or or what
- 49:56Speaker 4: they used that the volume where the Holi deck is
- 50:00Speaker 4: amount calls it. So it was cool to see physical, giant,
- 50:04Speaker 4: physical sets yea. You know the the Enterprise too, like
- 50:11Speaker 4: those sets too. They'd shut a lot. They've made a
- 50:14Speaker 4: lot of big sets for the Enterprise too.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, absolute, and that was very more visual.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Like the the engine room scene where you see the
- 50:24Speaker 2: conduit go down like several hundred feet. That set was
- 50:27Speaker 2: only forty feet forty feet long. And the way they
- 50:31Speaker 2: did that was they just forced perspective. They actually had
- 50:35Speaker 2: actors that were progressively shorter actors. Oh wow, down down
- 50:40Speaker 2: the set, so it looks like it's several hundred feet.
- 50:41Speaker 2: It's only a forty foot set.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Oh that's interesting. Yeah, that's very cool, you know.
- 50:49Speaker 2: As far as you know filmmaking, right they had they
- 50:53Speaker 2: had a big budget, and some of the actors didn't
- 50:56Speaker 2: like the fact that it turned from a special It
- 50:59Speaker 2: turned from a care driven show to a special effects movie.
- 51:02Speaker 2: A lot of the actors were concerned because there wasn't
- 51:05Speaker 2: a lot of It's not that we need a lot
- 51:08Speaker 2: of character development from Kirk because he's you know, he
- 51:12Speaker 2: just he just went from commanding the starship to be
- 51:15Speaker 2: behind a death for two and a half years. But
- 51:17Speaker 2: there wasn't a lot of dialogue in the characters expressing
- 51:19Speaker 2: how they felt, expressing what they were going through.
- 51:22Speaker 3: They were just stating facts and what's going on.
- 51:25Speaker 2: And when I saw spot Kirk and McCoy sitting in
- 51:29Speaker 2: that room together at the beginning of the film, I thought,
- 51:33Speaker 2: there is no chemistry between these three characters, right, No,
- 51:38Speaker 2: and that's about Kirk McCoy, that's the big three. But
- 51:42Speaker 2: there was just wasn't And that's what they were the
- 51:43Speaker 2: actors were complaining about. There just wasn't any chemistry between
- 51:46Speaker 2: any of these actors who had chemistry before. And they
- 51:49Speaker 2: all said the same thing. They thought it was going
- 51:51Speaker 2: to be fun shooting together, you know, like a like
- 51:54Speaker 2: a reunion, and it just wasn't. Yeah, it's astonishing the
- 51:59Speaker 2: Star Trek Star Trek the wrap up gun got made, or.
- 52:03Speaker 3: That Star Trek has survived this long honestly, right. But yeah,
- 52:07Speaker 3: well I think I.
- 52:08Speaker 4: Think that's pretty much everything we need to say about
- 52:09Speaker 4: the film. So we should probably get into listener feedback. Sure, Yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 4: I mean, because it's it's it's a movie against a cloud,
- 52:19Speaker 4: and that didn't work for Green Lantern and it didn't
- 52:21Speaker 4: work for.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:26Speaker 3: All right, so let's get to listener feedback.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Listener feedback.
- 52:35Speaker 3: All right, So I did post in in several social
- 52:39Speaker 3: media groups. I made a meme. Do I still have
- 52:43Speaker 3: it on here?
- 52:44Speaker 1: I do not?
- 52:46Speaker 3: Basically, let me see if I can find it real quick.
- 52:48Speaker 3: Over here.
- 52:50Speaker 4: I put a picture of Spock looking all emo and
- 52:53Speaker 4: Jared Leto. Yeah, here it is, I will show it
- 52:57Speaker 4: right now, both wearing the black robes.
- 53:02Speaker 3: Yeah who wore it?
- 53:03Speaker 2: Better?
- 53:03Speaker 4: Because they're both in black robes and sur president left
- 53:07Speaker 4: and just you know. In all the Star Trek groups
- 53:10Speaker 4: I posted it in, everyone.
- 53:11Speaker 3: Seemed to go with Spock, so yeah better. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:17Speaker 3: I I did think it was funny.
- 53:18Speaker 4: Somebody called me out there, like you put Jared Leto's
- 53:20Speaker 4: real name and then he put Lemarn's character name.
- 53:24Speaker 2: That's because we don't care about Let's character.
- 53:26Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:29Speaker 3: I almost wanted to say, if you can tell me
- 53:31Speaker 3: what movie that was from? Then you got me and
- 53:34Speaker 3: the carrier.
- 53:35Speaker 4: It's it's from the uh from the Blade Runner remake
- 53:40Speaker 4: that he was in or reboot.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Oh I thought you were gonna say, like, wasn't he
- 53:44Speaker 2: in a Marvel something?
- 53:46Speaker 5: Uh?
- 53:46Speaker 3: No, he was Joker though, That's right.
- 53:50Speaker 2: See that's how forgettable he is.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Yeah, sorry, exactly yeah, we also did get a voicemail,
- 54:00Speaker 4: so before I forget, let's let's play that now, because
- 54:03Speaker 4: the last time we've forgotten, we played it really late,
- 54:05Speaker 4: so we'll play that voicemail as well.
- 54:10Speaker 6: Hey guys, morning anyways, motion picture, good film. Give it
- 54:16Speaker 6: a three point five out of five. Patient issue, uniform,
- 54:22Speaker 6: excuse and color. Overall feels like an extended episode of Coos,
- 54:26Speaker 6: but pretty much that shot of the enterprise still the
- 54:32Speaker 6: best shot and all the series when it comes to ships.
- 54:36Speaker 6: Love it. Anyways. He's yeah, there we go.
- 54:44Speaker 2: You know, he summed up our our entire trek cast
- 54:47Speaker 2: episode in one minute.
- 54:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:50Speaker 4: Basically basically that's our little uh felt furry friend his return,
- 54:57Speaker 4: so yeah it yeah. No, and if you want to
- 55:00Speaker 4: be turned into yeah, if you want to be turned
- 55:02Speaker 4: into an animated creature as well, leave us a voicemail.
- 55:06Speaker 3: Uh that would be at five.
- 55:08Speaker 4: Seven zero six six one zero zero zero one five
- 55:13Speaker 4: seven zero six six one zero zero zero one, and yeah,
- 55:16Speaker 4: we'll play your voicemail, will turn will animate your voice
- 55:20Speaker 4: and it'll be fun.
- 55:21Speaker 2: And that's just a Google voicemail. Nobody's gonna answer the phone.
- 55:23Speaker 3: It's just no, nobody's gonna answer the just if you
- 55:26Speaker 3: just want to call and.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Say, hey, hi, I listened to the show. My name
- 55:29Speaker 2: is so and so. Don't leave your name.
- 55:31Speaker 3: It doesn't matter if somebody does answer. Yeah.
- 55:34Speaker 4: If somebody does answer, it's like the phone service in
- 55:36Speaker 4: john Wick. So you'll be excommunicado.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so there is that, yeah exactly.
- 55:42Speaker 3: Yeah, but all right, we've got Jazzmiz on the line,
- 55:46Speaker 3: so let's bring him in. Jazz Biz. How are you man?
- 55:52Speaker 3: Good morning? Do you watch Star Trek the Motion Picture?
- 55:56Speaker 1: Now? I watched War in Peace instead?
- 55:58Speaker 3: Oh geez, another long.
- 56:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 56:06Speaker 3: Have you ever seen Star Trek the Motion Picture?
- 56:09Speaker 1: Yes? Yeah, yes, yes, I remember when I discovered that
- 56:19Speaker 1: Ratha Con was the sequel. Yeah, I was like, there's
- 56:23Speaker 1: another Star Trek movie out there. I never seen it
- 56:26Speaker 1: before because it was never replayed on HBO. Yeah, I
- 56:30Speaker 1: saw what I think it was in high school when
- 56:33Speaker 1: at first.
- 56:33Speaker 2: William Shannoner was equally a surprise that Star Trek you
- 56:36Speaker 2: got me?
- 56:36Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, well he said in an interview.
- 56:41Speaker 2: After after this movie came out, He's like, well that
- 56:43Speaker 2: was it. It was a good run. But Star Trek
- 56:45Speaker 2: is dead.
- 56:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Well okay, if Phase two came out in the seventies.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Would Star Trek still be alive?
- 56:55Speaker 2: Oh, they had when I had back tendency to kill
- 57:03Speaker 2: kill franchises. Yeah, although Next Generation didn't kill Star Trek even.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Though everybody no but Ratha Colin, you know, kind of
- 57:13Speaker 1: retooling it, rebooting it.
- 57:14Speaker 4: I think you would be along the lines of Lost
- 57:18Speaker 4: in Space. Yeah, like that series, right there was there
- 57:23Speaker 4: would have been a reboot movie in the nineties. Probably
- 57:26Speaker 4: there would be. There would be reboot attempts in TV,
- 57:29Speaker 4: like they did the Lost in Space Netflix show.
- 57:33Speaker 2: Yeah, which both okay both the movie with Matt LeBlanc, Yeah,
- 57:38Speaker 2: which has the best line of any sci fi movie
- 57:41Speaker 2: of all time, which is I thought was good. And
- 57:45Speaker 2: the monkey throws the switch.
- 57:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I just loved it.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Earlier in the movie he's complaining that a monkey could
- 57:53Speaker 2: fly the ship and they tell him to go and
- 57:57Speaker 2: he just kind of sits back in his chair and
- 57:59Speaker 2: the monkey was the stitch, right. I just thought I
- 58:02Speaker 2: loved it. I love battle block of that movie. Up
- 58:05Speaker 2: until the last third, I thought it was a really
- 58:07Speaker 2: really good movie.
- 58:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 58:09Speaker 1: I remember that movie is because the movie theater I
- 58:12Speaker 1: saw it in had a blown speaker that'll make yeah,
- 58:19Speaker 1: that made it memorable. Remember that speaker just going off
- 58:22Speaker 1: and it's just like, man, this is ruining this movie.
- 58:27Speaker 2: It was easy on the eyes.
- 58:29Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know.
- 58:31Speaker 2: William Hurt.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Or whatever. Oh yeah, you proud about Gary Oldman.
- 58:38Speaker 2: Gary Oldman.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Fantastic he played the doctor. Yeah right, great actor.
- 58:46Speaker 2: What did you think of the reboot series? They did?
- 58:48Speaker 2: What two? Two seasons?
- 58:49Speaker 3: Three?
- 58:51Speaker 1: I watched episode and I was out.
- 58:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I only watched an episode.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Problem Netflix show was sometimes the pacing is really really slow. Yeah,
- 59:00Speaker 1: and if the pacing's too long, like they get the hour,
- 59:03Speaker 1: but they don't have to use the full hour, right, Yeah,
- 59:06Speaker 1: yeah know, it's like sometimes you know, when you watch start,
- 59:10Speaker 1: it's only forty two minutes.
- 59:12Speaker 3: I've heard it's good.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Though, it is good, good, But with pacing, with episodic
- 59:17Speaker 2: stuff like that sometimes and they talk about this on
- 59:20Speaker 2: the Delta Flyers. When you have let's say you have
- 59:24Speaker 2: ten episodes in a season, then you have eight different
- 59:27Speaker 2: directors or ten different directors, the pacing can get changed dramatically,
- 59:33Speaker 2: jarringly because you have one director that likes you know,
- 59:36Speaker 2: fast in your face, and then the next day the
- 59:38Speaker 2: next episode is slow paced, and you know medical and
- 59:41Speaker 2: then the next episode is something completely different, So that
- 59:45Speaker 2: can be a problem sometimes.
- 59:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I can see that.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Yeah, And I noticed that with most of these, like
- 59:51Speaker 1: these series that sometimes they're really fast and sometimes they're
- 59:55Speaker 1: just boring. And then I watch the first two episodes,
- 59:59Speaker 1: then I'm out, yeah, and never finish it. So yeah,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: And of course, now you know with series like we've
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: got to wait two years to get the second season,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: so or.
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: The third season, it's like, yeah, yeah, it's gonna be
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: like almost three years between Strange from the World season
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: two and three.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Yeah, two and a half years. Yeah.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why it seems so long. And you know,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: because I was thinking, I was like, is this season four?
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: And I was like, no, this is season three.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: I read somewhere this will be the longest we've waited
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: for a cliffhanger, because it was I don't even remember.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: The Corner attacking.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Okay, so the Corner attacks, I have no idea.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: They have to rewatched season two before.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: Yeah, they're on that planet and the Corner attacking the planet,
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: and so like some of them are down on the
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: planet or I think it's a it's so, is.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: That what that shot was? I saw them, you know,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: shooting and I saw the Yeah it's flying.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: So yeah, it would be the to the Gliffhanger because
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: like the Enterprises out in space fighting some Gorn, there's
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: Gorn on the planet and some of the crews down there,
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: so it's split there either way, they're being attacked by
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: the Gord.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you one thing. Season three was definitely
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: not being shot before season two came out.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Right, Well, remember you had the writer's strike. Yeah, writers,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: and we're.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: Still probably back then, we're still probably dealing with a
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: little bit of tail into COVID and mm hmm.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Well that strike just it just set everything back and
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: it's really hurt the theaters right now.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: Mm hm oh.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: You know, Sam McCain was last week and they showed
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: you know, Superman and all these other shows.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: So, right, what'd you think of the Superman trailer?
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: That's pretty cool and I'm ready for it. You know
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: a lot of people are like, what is the dog
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: doing that? I was like, a dog doesn't know you're hurt.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Also, Crypto, yeah dog will hop on you. Yeah. Crypto
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: in the comic books is a very bad boy. He's
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: is a very mischievous, like he's not like a chill dog.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: He gets into trouble, he choose things up. He's a tradition.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: He's a dog.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: He's a dog and a lot of Another thing that
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: the people had a problem with in the trailer Spoilerer,
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: if you haven't seen the New Superman trailer, yeah, is
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: that Superman is being healed from his injuries. He's got
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: fourteen broken bones and several like lung and bladder and stuff,
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: and he's and their solution is to get a concentrated
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: beam of sunlight, yellow sunlight, onto him. And Superman's response
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: is he's writhing in pain. And people are like, oh,
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: so sunlight now hurts Superman. No, No, he's being fourteen
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: bones are being put back together in his internal organs
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: are regenerated.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: That's gonna be painful for anybody.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: He's probably not used to being in pain, right, right.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's probably not used to being in pain. And
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: when you have those kind of it's it's the healing
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: process that's painful, not the I mean, if he was normal,
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: he could, you know, like go up and licked the sun.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: It wouldn't it wouldn't hurt him. But he's in he's
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: horribly damaged like the sun.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: Yeah big, I'm sorry, what was that?
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: What was that?
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: Oh god, oh god.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: No, that's gonna be a meme.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that is definitely gonna be a meme.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Wow, Scott, who had the stronger beard? McCoy or you?
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Oh, I gotta give it to McCoy. Oh my goodness.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: That that was a that was a strong you know
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: you mentioned beard. That was the one last thing in
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: my notes too. We were talking last night as we
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: were watching the movies, like it a hair piece. I'm like,
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: pretty sure everybody's wearing it, Like, I definitely know William
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: Shatner is wearing single hair Yeah right, I'm pretty sure
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: every Horror McCoy definitely, Uh, I think Memoy. I think
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: they all had hair pieces, even the Doubt was the
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: only one. In fact, she was a model, She was hot,
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: She was a model, and she had uh she had
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: Geene Roddenberry take out an insurance policy on her hair
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: in case it didn't grow back, which.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Yeah, she was really really smoking hot and she had.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: That was real naturally.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Often you have to shave it to get it that bald. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: every day, and most people are like, you know, you
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: could have wore a bald cap.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you could always tell the bald caps, so that's true.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I don't know. Well, you know, guys, it's easier to
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: shave her heads, but girls, you know, their hair means
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: a lot to them.
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely absolutely.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Did you guys mention the transporter accident on there?
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: Oh no, yeah, I forgot about that.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: Yeah. That that That is the most shocking scene member that.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: It has nothing to do with the script.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Still, it was just like I had to have a
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: way to get rid of the science officer. Yeah, and
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: the navigator, Yeah, the doctor that died. No, it was
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: the it was a science officer. And then uh in
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: the script and not in the movie they said it
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: was the navigator. So it was the Vulcan science officer
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: that Kirk met before his meeting with Starfleet.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: It was, you know, how you could have fixed that
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: too and not have to murder characters. Just been like yeah,
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: and when I took command of the ship, I told
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: Surf and I want these people said okay, yeah, yeah, but.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: It made it cooler because you're like, we never seen
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: a transporter accident like that.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: It was the most depressing thing I'd ever heard.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Was always like freaked out about him. Well, and and
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: and uh.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Kirk is like, Starfleet, do you have them? There's a
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: short but very long pause. Well we got back. Didn't
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: live long. Fortunately. That set chills through my spose.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, So why didn't they just face him
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: and like put him out of his misery?
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: Is this the only Star Trek movie where they don't
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: fire a phaser?
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: That was another thing I was thinking, that phaser.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Yeah, when they're talking.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: Torpedo, Yes, I'm dim the world. That was given me
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: a headache.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: What cracks me up? As they bring in the director
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: that directed the Sound of Music to direct this sci
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: fi epic here.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Bob, why is director sound of Music? Yeah? I didn't
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: know that. Okay, yeah he's Oscar Winner.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but you know, two different kind of genres.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: You almost need somebody that would do you like maybe
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: action or something.
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: At the time mm hmm, I was like, yeah, he
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: didn't do this and the music and Citizen Kane he
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: did the editing for that.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I mean William Friedkin at the time, or
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: bring in uh, well, Lucas is too busy. Spielberg was
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: too busy.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: He also did the still and uh and Drameda Strain
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: so drama.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Man, that's a slow movie, but it's a good you know,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: kind of creepy like epidemic, you know, something's yeah.
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: No, But I'm just saying he did have sci fi chops,
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: so I get why they brought him in for sure.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, he did.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Like and now I understand why the and Dramata Strain
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: was so slow.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: He had a lot of people that had his back,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: you know, Roddenberry and Chattner, and you know, I think
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: he did find as far as that, I don't have
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: any problem with the direction. When we get to Nemesis,
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: then I will have some words to say about the
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: director because Stuart Baird or whatever the hell his name is,
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: I don't care. Don't correct me, Stuart, piece of crap director.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: I can't stand that guy as a director.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Well he almost killed me Star Trek think about it.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, he killed the next gen movies. He
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: completely like And I'll tell this, you.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: Know, I'll tell this story again in a few weeks.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: But I looked into Jonathan Frakes's eyes and I said,
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: if you had directed Star Trek eight or Star Trek
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: nine and ten, they would be making Star Trek twenty
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: three right now, and he knew what I was talking about,
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: and he looked at me and he just said, from
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: your mouth to God's ears.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: Yeah he knew, Yeah, he knew anyway. But anyways, all right.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Other than that, I have nothing to say about the man.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: Any other thoughts on Star Trek's motion picture.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Just too long, you know, I didn't need like how
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: long did it take Spock to float to Vigure?
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: So about four hours? Yeah, in movie time, I'm sure.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: I'm sure it took nineteen.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: And then there's a director's cut of this which makes
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: it longer. And I remember, you know, they're released a
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: couple of years ago in the theater, and I always
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: see movies in the movie theater. Oh, sure, do you
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: want to see the motion picture? And I'm like, I do,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: But I know if she came with me, she wouldn't
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: ever see a Star Trek movie with me. Every again,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: I was like, let's set this one out and we'll
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: see Ratha Cohn or The Voyage Home or some of
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: the yeah.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: And Undiscovered Country Star Trek generations saw in the theater.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: And I never saw Undiscovered Country in the theater.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: So they don't replay that one. They always play Ratha
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: con Voyage Home or some of the next Gen movies.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: We never play Undiscovered Country because that's that's probably my
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: favorite Star Trek movie out there.
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: I saw a lot of people were watching First Contact
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: yesterday for First Contact Day, so.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Really yeah, yeah, uh, and I'm I'm looking forward to
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: First Contact for a number of reasons. But I did
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: a Star Trek movie rewatch about.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Three years ago, okay, when everybody was bored.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Yeah we were. We weren't living. It was before the
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: house was built, and you know, so we were watching
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: them once a week and then we stopped at we
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: watched Generations and then stopped. Within the last three or
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: four years, I've seen all the movies up to First Contact,
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: which is my favorite. Next get right, So I'm looking
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to this rewatch, And now that we've
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: gotten the motion picture out of the way, it's yeah,
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: a little bit more. I mean, we still have to
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: do on the final Frontier.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: But yeah, I've seen in the movie probably the most
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: so in the tier so and the.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: One of the Star Trek movie I've probably seen the
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: most is it's probably a toss up between the Undiscovered Country,
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: which I saw a lot.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Five and six because it was on HBO like all
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: the time where you played as a kid.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Okay, my buddy, in fact, the same one that gave
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: me the tidbit about the soundtrack. Gabe. He used to
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: come over my house all the time when we were
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: younger and we would watch Discovered Country. We have other options,
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: but it was like, yeah, let's just you know, yeah,
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: if it ain't if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: So we just watch Undiscovered Country over and over.
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Nice, I definitely remember. So I bet Dan will be
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: back next week for the episode.
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: Oh for for rather gone? Maybe Yeah.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: I think he sat this one out and as a picture,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: I'll sleep in.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: He's like, I'm not watching.
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: I can't really blame him.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, all right, well we should have We
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: should probably wrap it up because it sounds like we're
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: getting close to the end. Okay, but yeah, if you
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: guys want to follow us on social media, we definitely
