- 0:09Yukon Husky's Football, tailgating and fun. That's a great combination. Jim
- 0:13Moore back with US coach, let's talk kicking field goal maybe competition this week.
- 0:19If I'm reading between the lines and your press conference on Tuesday. Yeah,
- 0:25you know, Joe's had a long road back from a tough injury,
- 0:28and I think Joe's a really good kicker. As a matter of fact,
- 0:32I was just out on the field with him shagging some kicks for him after
- 0:35practice, trying to, you know, lighten things up a little bit for
- 0:39him in terms of the pressure he's putting on himself. The fact of the
- 0:43matter is is though that he needs to make those kicks. We need to
- 0:46do everything can to support him. But we also have a very good kicker
- 0:49in no way, and so just like at all positions on our football team,
- 0:54there's competition, and you know, we're very fortunate to have two good
- 0:59kicks and we need them to make kicks when you know, it's a reasonable
- 1:03expectation dependent upon yardage and wind and all those things, and you know we're
- 1:08not consistent enough yet. So just because its competition doesn't mean anyone's lost any
- 1:14faith in Joe. I certainly haven't. But I think just in the spirit
- 1:19of what we try to do around here, it's important that there's competition at
- 1:23that position to see who's gonna who's gonna take the kicks on Saturday. And
- 1:29you know we need we need one or both of those guys to really become
- 1:33dependable for us. Yeah, it should be an interesting competition in the next
- 1:36few days. Hey, at quarterback, you have two players. You've got
- 1:40a depth shart that's two and so far Takemon Robertson's had a couple opportunities starting
- 1:47through for one hundred and fourteen on the weekend. What's your thought there?
- 1:51Are you going to continue to make that a competition or are you gonna stick
- 1:55with Takewan? And hopefully he grows into this because he hadn't had a lot
- 1:59of experience only playing college football quarterback. Really, of the three, Joe
- 2:04take Kwan and Zion Takekwan has had the least experience. He's throwing the least
- 2:07the fewest passes, but He's a very talented young man and I see him
- 2:15growing, I see him becoming more and more comfortable out there. But you
- 2:21know, yeah, Mike, there's competition in every position every single day,
- 2:24and they're expect to come out and perform, and we're expect to come out
- 2:27and coach the heck out of him and put him in the right position.
- 2:30And so from that standpoint, you know, you never say never. I
- 2:36think I've told you this before, and I think at that position, at
- 2:38the quarterback position, it's so important that the player planning that position feels the
- 2:43support of the of the head coach and the coaching staff. And you know,
- 2:46so that's what I'm gonna do with take Kwan. I got to give
- 2:51him all my support and I want to give him all my support, and
- 2:53he needs to feel all my support. So in terms of talking about replacing
- 2:58him, that's not something that I philosophically believe you should you should talk about.
- 3:04You know, I don't think that's the right thing to do. Yeah,
- 3:07I agree with you on that one. A couple of quick thoughts here
- 3:08on guys that got into action on the weekend. James Burns caught a couple
- 3:14of passes he's a transfer from Austin Pete. Kylish Hicks at a catch as
- 3:19well, the redshirt fresh from from Pikesville, Maryland. What did you like
- 3:22about what just all with those guys? Well, James has speed. We
- 3:27love that we gave him the ball on the reverse and we blocked the wrong
- 3:30guy downfield or you know, he would have had an opportunity to show everybody
- 3:35that speed. And then I just think Kyleish is a talented kid, and
- 3:38uh, you know, he's got to continue to learn this offense and make
- 3:42sure that he's consistent with his with his assignments. But he's tough, he's
- 3:47physical, he's fast, he catches the ball, and you know, I
- 3:53want to see him out there playing more. I like him a lot,
- 3:54I always have. And I also think he's a guy that if we ever
- 4:00needed him, you can come over and play some dB too. So every
- 4:03everybody likes those guys who can go both ways cats. Yeah, you're right,
- 4:09there's spots for guys like Cam Edwards. You know, there's spots for
- 4:12guys like Kylie's. There's you want fighters, man, you want competitors,
- 4:15you want gritty guys, and you talk about Kylish and Cam you're talking about
- 4:19a couple of gritty guys right there. Yeah, it's like having utility players
- 4:24in baseball. All right. Back with coach Jim Mora, we're going to
- 4:27get to the day in the life because you're not gonna believe some of the
- 4:30stuff this guy does before a football game. That's coming up next on the
- 4:33Yukon Football Coaches Show on Liarfield
