- 0:12Speaker 2: With Jacob Hester.
- 0:13Speaker 4: And Matt Lynn. Terrifying and terrible. Live from the haunted
- 0:18Speaker 4: Raising Cane Studios.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Here's Jacob Hester.
- 0:22Speaker 4: And Matt Lynn.
- 0:51Speaker 5: Welcome in OTB here live from the Raising Cane studio
- 0:59Speaker 5: on this Monday morning.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Jake Flynn, Alondra, Tay-Tay all here with you. How we
- 1:07Speaker 1: doing over there, Matthew?
- 1:08Speaker 4: I'm doing great. How are you doing?
- 1:10Speaker 6: Blessed and highly favored. Are you?
- 1:12Speaker 4: Yes. Good. That's what I'm talking about.
- 1:17Speaker 6: Mustache is looking good.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:18Speaker 6: Well done.
- 1:19Speaker 4: I know. I know. Cut it myself.
- 1:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Humble as always. Alondra, how you doing?
- 1:24Speaker 7: Good.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 1:26Speaker 8: Great.
- 1:27Speaker 6: Dynamic.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Tay-Tay.
- 1:28Speaker 9: The vibes this morning threw me off and I'm over
- 1:30Speaker 9: it now. Like two minutes into the show.
- 1:34Speaker 4: It's not even two minutes.
- 1:36Speaker 7: It's two minutes and 22 seconds.
- 1:38Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Whatever.
- 1:39Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Whatever, people. Got that big clock right there.
- 1:43Speaker 8: I feel like my vibes are a bit immaculate today.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I appreciate you're here. Thank you.
- 1:47Speaker 9: I don't not appreciate that you're here, but, like, I
- 1:49Speaker 9: at least have good vibes.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I have great vibes.
- 1:51Speaker 7: Because you had the option to stay home.
- 1:53Speaker 8: I coughed one time. They wanted to throw a scarlet
- 1:55Speaker 8: letter on me over here.
- 2:01Speaker 6: You seem to stay over there today.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Bro, I haven't moved from out of my chair.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Just saying.
- 2:06Speaker 4: It was in my chair.
- 2:08Speaker 6: Stay over there today, sickling. Karma.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Y'all had the option.
- 2:18Speaker 7: No, we put it up to you, so don't even. Yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 7: we really did.
- 2:21Speaker 11: You actually threw out three different options last night, and
- 2:24Speaker 11: Jake said, up to you. We didn't hear anything, and
- 2:26Speaker 11: then I texted you at 6.30. I was like, hey,
- 2:28Speaker 11: where you at? You're like, bro, I'm here. I'm like,
- 2:30Speaker 11: you ain't in the building.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:34Speaker 4: If somebody says.
- 2:36Speaker 8: Look, dealing with something, you want me in or not,
- 2:40Speaker 8: and you say it's up to you, that means you
- 2:41Speaker 8: want him in.
- 2:42Speaker 9: Well, because before you said, I feel better, I can
- 2:46Speaker 9: come in.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I do.
- 2:47Speaker 7: So we were like, okay.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I feel great.
- 2:49Speaker 7: Okay, good.
- 2:49Speaker 4: A little cough. A little substance to it. It's fine.
- 2:55Speaker 6: I'm feeling.
- 2:56Speaker 7: A little something.
- 2:57Speaker 4: All right.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Talk about how you're feeling, okay? You said you're feeling
- 3:00Speaker 1: a little bit better. Literally said me. I'm good either way.
- 3:04Speaker 1: It's up to you. Alondra said same.
- 3:06Speaker 4: That's good. So, you made that decision, sir. Okay, great.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I did. I told you I did. But if you
- 3:14Speaker 4: didn't want me to come, you would have said, nah,
- 3:15Speaker 4: stay home. If y'all felt uncomfortable. We don't.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Well.
- 3:20Speaker 6: You didn't want me there?
- 3:23Speaker 4: I felt like I needed to vibe check y'all.
- 3:27Speaker 6: I said bless and highly favored, sir.
- 3:29Speaker 4: I'm doing great. Mm-hmm.
- 3:30Speaker 6: It was a good sports weekend.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 3:32Speaker 7: It was a great sports weekend.
- 3:33Speaker 1: It was.
- 3:33Speaker 4: It was feeling really good.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Mine started out Friday, listening to Tay-Tay on the U-High call, U-58,
- 3:41Speaker 1: Westville 30.
- 3:43Speaker 6: I enjoyed that.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Was it a dynamic call?
- 3:47Speaker 6: It was a great call. He didn't like it.
- 3:51Speaker 5: It was good.
- 3:51Speaker 4: He didn't feel good about himself.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I was at the Board of Supervisors dinner in Montgomery,
- 3:56Speaker 1: had one AirPod in, watching it.
- 3:59Speaker 6: Now, everybody was very cool. Because they understood.
- 4:02Speaker 1: They were like, you know, we understand your son's playing,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and I was watching. So they would come, and they
- 4:07Speaker 1: would kind of check in with the game. Because, you know,
- 4:10Speaker 1: obviously there's people in there that, you know, they either
- 4:13Speaker 1: went to U-High or their kids go to U-High or something.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So that was actually pretty fun. It was a tight
- 4:19Speaker 1: game for a little bit. You got pulled away late.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But first game, Jackson got to play in a couple weeks.
- 4:24Speaker 6: He had a high ankle sprain.
- 4:26Speaker 4: How'd it go? We played well, too.
- 4:28Speaker 6: Yeah, J-Bones played pretty good.
- 4:30Speaker 4: We braced up.
- 4:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Have they changed that technology?
- 4:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I went.
- 4:35Speaker 1: To the old internet and found this special brace that's
- 4:40Speaker 1: just for high... Like, it's not just for, but it's
- 4:42Speaker 1: supposed to help with high ankles.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Yep. And so I got that. I know that brace well.
- 4:47Speaker 6: Dude, it looks.
- 4:48Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Has the technology changed? No.
- 4:52Speaker 1: It looks so similar to the one that you had
- 4:54Speaker 1: laced up. It's got the cross straps on it. Had
- 4:58Speaker 1: to wear all kinds of line shoes for half the year.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I was just about to say... Shout out to Lou,
- 5:04Speaker 1: our guy Lou, who got him some really nice offensive
- 5:08Speaker 1: lineman cleats.
- 5:09Speaker 4: That's what I'm talking about. Got to.
- 5:10Speaker 6: These things were silky smooth.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Got to.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so he was ready to go. It was fun
- 5:14Speaker 1: to see him back out there. Because when you miss
- 5:16Speaker 1: a game like in high school football.
- 5:18Speaker 4: That's not fun. Golly.
- 5:20Speaker 6: You feel like you missed 10.
- 5:22Speaker 4: What's the worst?
- 5:23Speaker 6: I mean, you only get so many.
- 5:27Speaker 4: At all levels.
- 5:27Speaker 6: I know. But NFL, you don't know.
- 5:29Speaker 4: It's true.
- 5:31Speaker 6: In college, you can play 17 years now.
- 5:33Speaker 1: That's a good point. Anyways, good sports weekend. Tigers took
- 5:39Speaker 1: care of business. God, it was so much fun to
- 5:41Speaker 1: just celebrate a victory on the plains.
- 5:43Speaker 9: It was so great because I was, as you all know,
- 5:46Speaker 9: our friend Marler got married this weekend.
- 5:48Speaker 4: That's right.
- 5:49Speaker 7: Congratulations. Shout out to Chris Marler and Ali. Now Ali Marler.
- 5:53Speaker 1: The Marlers.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Nice job.
- 5:55Speaker 7: Beautiful wedding. Beautiful bride. Chris was Chris.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Yep.
- 5:59Speaker 7: Oh, my God, y'all.
- 6:00Speaker 9: Okay, so I was going to say it was great
- 6:03Speaker 9: for me because I was sitting at a tailgate with
- 6:05Speaker 9: a bunch of Auburn fans, so I loved that we
- 6:07Speaker 9: won in front of all of them. But at his wedding,
- 6:11Speaker 9: he was at the altar, and, like, all the bridesmaids
- 6:14Speaker 9: are coming in, whatever, and then, like, waiting for the
- 6:17Speaker 9: bride to come in at the altar.
- 6:19Speaker 7: I look at him. We make eye contact. At the altar,
- 6:24Speaker 7: this man hits me with the, hey, mama.
- 6:26Speaker 4: I was just about to say, hey, mama.
- 6:28Speaker 9: I swear he went like this to me, and I
- 6:30Speaker 9: was like, I couldn't stop laughing.
- 6:32Speaker 7: I was like, what am I supposed to do?
- 6:33Speaker 4: I knew this coming.
- 6:37Speaker 7: Can't even take his wedding seriously.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Shout out to Chris for getting married. Looked great.
- 6:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it looked like a nice, beautiful event.
- 6:45Speaker 7: It was great.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Uh-huh.
- 6:46Speaker 7: Very nicely done.
- 6:48Speaker 1: The tailgate the next day probably didn't go well, as
- 6:50Speaker 1: you mentioned. A lot of Auburn fans.
- 6:52Speaker 7: There's a lot of Auburn fans there. The vibes were
- 6:55Speaker 7: killed very early.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and we'll break down the game next segment, but
- 6:58Speaker 1: I can just tell you from a vibe standpoint, we
- 7:01Speaker 1: got there, sat down, the place was packed, because it
- 7:06Speaker 1: always is, and they showed up. But from the very get-go,
- 7:10Speaker 1: even though LSU didn't end in the end zone, their
- 7:14Speaker 1: first drive, it was like, oh, man, it's going to
- 7:16Speaker 1: be a long day for this defense. They don't really
- 7:18Speaker 1: have a lot of answers for LSU, and you can
- 7:20Speaker 1: kind of see it pretty quickly. And then once you
- 7:24Speaker 1: kind of figured out LSU had the quarterback run stopped,
- 7:26Speaker 1: you're like, man, this guy's not going to beat you
- 7:30Speaker 1: throwing the football. I mean, he really only had one run. So, look,
- 7:35Speaker 1: it's at Auburn. It's an SEC game.
- 7:36Speaker 6: We get all that.
- 7:37Speaker 1: But just the feeling that we had in the broadcast
- 7:39Speaker 1: booth after a handful of plays, it's like it's going
- 7:42Speaker 1: to be a pretty good day for LSU.
- 7:44Speaker 8: Yeah, it was just one of those games where you
- 7:46Speaker 8: started watching it, and you were like, yeah, these game
- 7:48Speaker 8: plans aren't matching up.
- 7:50Speaker 4: These two game plans that each team went in with.
- 7:52Speaker 8: Are different from each other, and it's not going to
- 7:55Speaker 8: get any better. There's no halftime adjustment that's going to
- 7:58Speaker 8: fix the entirety of the problem for Auburn. Blake Baker
- 8:02Speaker 8: was in his bag, and his front seven played really well, executed,
- 8:07Speaker 8: and were very, very sound and disciplined in what they
- 8:11Speaker 8: were doing from a pass rush standpoint. And just like
- 8:14Speaker 8: a body presence standpoint, a gap presence standpoint, there was
- 8:18Speaker 8: just nowhere to go. And you take that part away
- 8:21Speaker 8: from him, he's not going to be able to beat you. Now,
- 8:23Speaker 8: he can do it. I'm not saying he can't throw.
- 8:26Speaker 8: It's just like he's good all around. That's why he's
- 8:29Speaker 8: one of the top throwers and runners of the ball
- 8:32Speaker 8: because they work in tandem with each other. You take
- 8:36Speaker 8: one of them away, that's probably the more comfort zone
- 8:39Speaker 8: for him. uh it's it's going to be a long
- 8:42Speaker 8: day and sure i mean he's gonna he's gonna get
- 8:44Speaker 8: off you know a scramble here and there but there
- 8:46Speaker 8: really wasn't like a like it but it was a
- 8:48Speaker 8: scramble yeah there wasn't like a called we're gonna line
- 8:52Speaker 8: up and get an extra blocker out on you and
- 8:54Speaker 8: and it was just really gap sound.
- 8:58Speaker 1: That was the only time they really got out of
- 8:59Speaker 1: their gap so tj i believe it was tj daughter
- 9:02Speaker 1: he kind of got He got a little nosy and
- 9:04Speaker 1: got up there because he was responsible for the quarterback,
- 9:06Speaker 1: and he kind of got up in the line a
- 9:08Speaker 1: little too much.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 8: But, like, he was in his feels. We were kicking
- 9:12Speaker 8: their ass, and he was just like, I'm just going
- 9:13Speaker 8: to go make this play. I mean, just in his
- 9:15Speaker 8: feels a little bit. But, like, it was really, really–
- 9:19Speaker 8: it was very impressive. But that front seven and the
- 9:22Speaker 8: defensive line, LSU's defensive line continues to improve. It's easy
- 9:27Speaker 8: to see improvement on the offensive side of the ball.
- 9:29Speaker 8: It's really easy to see improvement from the offensive line, quarterback, receivers, what.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Jackson Harris is doing.
- 9:35Speaker 8: But it's harder to see improvement from those interior defensive positions.
- 9:42Speaker 8: But I'm telling you, that defensive line is coming strong,
- 9:45Speaker 8: and they are getting better and better every single week.
- 9:50Speaker 8: The arrows are pointed up for LSU. And again, every
- 9:53Speaker 8: single week, you're a week away from being humbled.
- 9:56Speaker 4: In the SEC. But, like, the trajectory that.
- 9:59Speaker 8: this team is on with the people stepping up, maybe
- 10:02Speaker 8: getting some people back healthy, obviously trade us getting back healthy,
- 10:06Speaker 8: but like the team is improving and the individual players
- 10:10Speaker 8: are improving within the scheme.
- 10:12Speaker 4: And it's very exciting.
- 10:13Speaker 8: And like, we all kind of saw that come together
- 10:15Speaker 8: this past weekend and, And the game plans, yes, were
- 10:18Speaker 8: good against a game plan that wasn't as good.
- 10:21Speaker 4: But the individual effort.
- 10:23Speaker 8: And play and the way they're playing as a team
- 10:25Speaker 8: on both sides of the ball is very encouraging. I
- 10:28Speaker 8: don't have any predictions about what's going to happen the
- 10:30Speaker 8: rest of the season.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I don't.
- 10:32Speaker 8: But I just know that the arrow is certainly pointed
- 10:35Speaker 8: upwards for this team.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It's almost like you don't want to have a bye week.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Me and my father-in-law were talking about that yesterday.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a fair point.
- 10:48Speaker 6: And you need one.
- 10:49Speaker 1: You got to get Jackson Harris healthy. You want to
- 10:51Speaker 1: get traded as another week. I don't know that Witt's
- 10:53Speaker 1: going to be able to come back after a bye week. Obviously,
- 10:57Speaker 1: we'll pay attention to that one. And, look, at this
- 11:00Speaker 1: point in the season, Sam Levitt could use one, his hamstring.
- 11:04Speaker 6: You need one.
- 11:05Speaker 4: No, no, no, no. Oh, man.
- 11:07Speaker 8: Sam needs to do sprints every day. He needs to
- 11:11Speaker 8: keep that hamstring lit and just not. Not like all
- 11:13Speaker 8: the way hurt, but not all the way healthy.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Yeah, just a little hurt.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Just a little hurt.
- 11:16Speaker 4: A little bit hurt. I got you.
- 11:17Speaker 6: I got you.
- 11:18Speaker 1: But, you know, when you're on a heater like that,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, it's tough. Like you already know, I just
- 11:22Speaker 1: want to keep going. I just want to keep going.
- 11:23Speaker 1: But it could behoove LSU as well to get a
- 11:27Speaker 1: little healthier, get some guys a little bit of rest.
- 11:30Speaker 1: And so you got a big game coming up, but
- 11:32Speaker 1: we will step away. And when we come back, we
- 11:34Speaker 1: will kind of break down the game in its totality,
- 11:37Speaker 1: kind of what it looked like, what worked for LSU,
- 11:39Speaker 1: who stood out for LSU. to go on the planes
- 11:42Speaker 1: and to beat them up like you did after they
- 11:45Speaker 1: beat the number one team in the country on the road.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Very impressive victory for LSU. We'll break it all down
- 11:51Speaker 1: when we come back here on OTB. Off the bench.
- 11:54Speaker 4: All right, go to FABT.com.
- 11:56Speaker 6: FABT.com.

- 12:54Speaker 8: making decisions for you financially are right here in Louisiana.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Go to FABT.com.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Can you hear me calling you?
- 13:21Speaker 4: Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn, presented by Bayou Automotive.

- 14:38Speaker 1: want to. You can just hang out. Now, if you've
- 14:41Speaker 1: got to run an errand, guess what? You've got a loaner.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Huh.
- 14:44Speaker 6: You can do that.
- 14:45Speaker 4: You've got to wait in line, though, for a while.
- 14:47Speaker 4: It's probably one full-time driver.
- 14:49Speaker 1: No, they have nine full-time drivers. Go to bayouautomotive.com today.
- 14:55Speaker 1: All right, it was LSU 38-17 over the Auburn Tigers.
- 14:59Speaker 1: They're on the plains. It was early and often for LSU.
- 15:03Speaker 1: 31-10 was the score as both teams went into the
- 15:07Speaker 1: locker room.
- 15:08Speaker 6: And again, ends 38-17.
- 15:08Speaker 1: First downs, LSU 29-16. Total yards, LSU 552-271. Running the football, 165-67.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Through the air, LSU, 387. Auburn, 204.
- 15:28Speaker 6: Turnovers, none. Zero. That's a big number for LSU.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Time of possession, 33-41 to 26-19 in favor of LSU.
- 15:39Speaker 1: LSU dominates on the field. They dominate on the team stats.
- 15:43Speaker 1: They dominate on the individual stats. Sam Levitt, 387 yards passing.
- 15:48Speaker 1: a new career-high three touchdowns. Dylan Jones, 92 rushing yards
- 15:53Speaker 1: with a touchdown. Jackson Harris breaks his career best that
- 15:58Speaker 1: he set a couple of weeks ago, 178 yards receiving
- 16:01Speaker 1: and two more touchdowns. Jordan Ross adds two more sacks
- 16:06Speaker 1: to his tally. So a big day for the LSU
- 16:08Speaker 1: Tigers on the Plains. And as we were talking about
- 16:11Speaker 1: in the first segment, you kind of knew from the
- 16:13Speaker 1: very beginning of the game it was going to be
- 16:15Speaker 1: a long day for Auburn.
- 16:18Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, hearing you bring off the box score there,
- 16:21Speaker 8: I think that all equals out to an ass-whipping.
- 16:26Speaker 4: My God. It did.
- 16:27Speaker 2: It did.
- 16:28Speaker 4: Yeah, and it looked like it.
- 16:30Speaker 8: I think the score, even being 38-17, it wasn't even, like,
- 16:34Speaker 8: the game wasn't.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Even that close at all.
- 16:37Speaker 6: Auburn actually scored, like, the last play, basically.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Of the game. Yeah.
- 16:40Speaker 8: And there's so many flowers to give out for this
- 16:43Speaker 8: game because there were so many individual performances that stood out.
- 16:46Speaker 8: I mean, I think the one that's going to stick
- 16:48Speaker 8: out to everybody is certainly Jackson Harris.
- 16:50Speaker 4: My God. I mean, we, he's been good. He's been good.
- 16:54Speaker 8: Like he's been, he's, you could tell since the beginning,
- 16:57Speaker 8: he's kind of been your number one receiver, your number
- 16:59Speaker 8: one target on, on big plays. That's kind of who the,
- 17:03Speaker 8: the play is a lot of times designed to go to, um,
- 17:09Speaker 8: But I didn't realize he was that good. I didn't
- 17:12Speaker 8: realize he was Saturday good. And when I say that,
- 17:16Speaker 8: I mean.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Body control, sure hands, awareness of the field.
- 17:29Speaker 8: He caught a back shoulder pass, same level through back
- 17:31Speaker 8: shoulder pass, standing in.
- 17:32Speaker 4: His own end zone.
- 17:33Speaker 8: I can't remember. I think it was early in the game.
- 17:36Speaker 8: certainly the first half, but coming out of his own
- 17:38Speaker 8: end zone, which takes some cojones to make that throw, right?
- 17:44Speaker 8: Back shoulder throw, standing out of your own end zone,
- 17:46Speaker 8: which shows a lot of confidence in your receiver. But
- 17:50Speaker 8: then it wasn't a very good back shoulder throw, and
- 17:53Speaker 8: he had to kind of go to the ground and
- 17:55Speaker 8: keep his hands underneath. That's a big-time play. Having to
- 17:59Speaker 8: stop from running a fade or a go route and
- 18:02Speaker 8: come back and catch a back shoulder throw ball. Like
- 18:04Speaker 8: it takes, it takes a lot of practice just to
- 18:06Speaker 8: be able to get comfortable catching like a good back
- 18:08Speaker 8: shoulder ball, but when it's not a very well thrown
- 18:10Speaker 8: one and it's low, he's got to go to the ground,
- 18:12Speaker 8: keep his hands and fingers underneath the ball. So it
- 18:15Speaker 8: doesn't hit it, pull it to his chest and then
- 18:17Speaker 8: kind of roll to make sure it doesn't ever hit
- 18:19Speaker 8: the ground. That was a big time catch, but just the,
- 18:22Speaker 8: the sure handedness, um, his, when he runs routes over
- 18:28Speaker 8: the middle, his angles to the ball are really good.
- 18:31Speaker 8: They don't let DBs cut them off. He doesn't drift
- 18:34Speaker 8: away from the ball. So, like, when he throws it,
- 18:37Speaker 8: the quarterback feels safe and protected. That at least, like,
- 18:42Speaker 8: for whatever reason, if my guy doesn't catch it, I
- 18:44Speaker 8: know the other team is not going to catch it.
- 18:46Speaker 8: And he's got that. And then, I mean, who knew
- 18:48Speaker 8: he had the speed? The breakaways didn't even look like
- 18:50Speaker 8: he was running hard. That was the part to me
- 18:52Speaker 8: that stood out. Because I wasn't sure if he had that. Yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 8: I kept watching him make all these different plays. And more, like,
- 19:00Speaker 8: time and time again, I'm watching it.
- 19:02Speaker 4: I'm like, whoa. Okay, I didn't know he– like, I
- 19:04Speaker 4: knew he was good. I didn't know he was that, though. Right. Like,
- 19:07Speaker 4: I didn't know he was– man.
- 19:09Speaker 8: I could be a top two or three round wide
- 19:12Speaker 8: receiver in the draft type good.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Like, I didn't know that.
- 19:16Speaker 8: Now I do, and I'm even more impressed with just
- 19:20Speaker 8: kind of the body of work that he's put together
- 19:22Speaker 8: this season. But, like, that was, to me, above all else.
- 19:25Speaker 8: And I get it, 178 yards, it's easy to say, man,
- 19:27Speaker 8: that's the performance of the game. But just the intangible things,
- 19:30Speaker 8: the little things that he was able to do, the
- 19:32Speaker 8: comfortability that he gives his quarterback and the play callers
- 19:35Speaker 8: and everything around him.
- 19:36Speaker 4: It was it was wildly impressive. Yeah.
- 19:40Speaker 1: And look, you needed someone to be able to help
- 19:44Speaker 1: you out while trade as green was out. And we'll
- 19:46Speaker 1: get to trade as here coming up in a little bit.
- 19:48Speaker 1: So he goes out in that Ole Miss.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Game.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And at that time, Jackson Harris was not really a
- 19:53Speaker 1: part of the game plan. He had some big plays
- 19:55Speaker 1: against Louisiana Tech, and he had a catch against Clemson.
- 19:58Speaker 1: But against Ole Miss, he had one for five. Well,
- 20:01Speaker 1: Tradez goes out, and I remember being on the broadcast saying, okay, well, hey,
- 20:05Speaker 1: something's got to happen.
- 20:06Speaker 6: Somebody's got to do something here.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Well, this is the stat line for the last SEC
- 20:11Speaker 1: games that Jackson Harris has played since that Ole Miss game.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Against Texas A & M, he has six catches, 163 yards,
- 20:19Speaker 1: two touchdowns. Against Kentucky, he has six catches, 54 yards,
- 20:23Speaker 1: and a touchdown. Against Mississippi State, he has six catches,
- 20:26Speaker 1: 85 yards, two touchdowns. Against the Auburn Tigers, he has
- 20:30Speaker 1: nine catches, 178 yards, two touchdowns.
- 20:31Speaker 6: So now, on the year.
- 20:35Speaker 1: He's got 36 catches, 634 yards, seven touchdowns, and really
- 20:41Speaker 1: they're all coming in the last five games. He is
- 20:45Speaker 1: no doubt your number one target. He's your number one receiver.
- 20:49Speaker 1: And now you get Trey Des Green back, which Trey
- 20:51Speaker 1: Des had, look, he had a good game, certainly coming
- 20:54Speaker 1: off injury.
- 20:54Speaker 6: He had a touchdown. He had 50 yards receiving.
- 20:56Speaker 1: He blocked his butt off yet again, which we'll get
- 21:00Speaker 1: to that when we get to the film. But now
- 21:02Speaker 1: you've got Jackson Harris and you've got Trey Des. And
- 21:05Speaker 1: I know you know this better than any of us.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Now your quarterback has two guys that he can trust.
- 21:10Speaker 1: He has two guys on money downs that he knows
- 21:13Speaker 1: he can throw the football to. And you had to
- 21:16Speaker 1: have that. And look, Winnie Watkins has made some plays,
- 21:18Speaker 1: but over the last couple weeks, you can tell. Some
- 21:21Speaker 1: of that trust factor has gone a little bit away.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Sometimes that happens during a season. I think Trey Wilson,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you might know him as Eugene, but he goes by Trey. He's,
- 21:32Speaker 1: you know, he's been better. He's been better. But it's
- 21:34Speaker 1: no doubt it's Jackson Harris, then it's Trey Desgreen. That's
- 21:37Speaker 1: who Sam Levitt trusts. And then Dylan Jones out of
- 21:40Speaker 1: the backfield.
- 21:40Speaker 8: Yeah, and I've been trying to put my finger on
- 21:44Speaker 8: my Jackson Harris comp. I know we've talked about Michael
- 21:48Speaker 8: Wilson in Arizona. The more I watched him after this game,
- 21:52Speaker 8: I was like, man. And I get a body type
- 21:54Speaker 8: might be a little bit different, but he reminds me of, like,
- 21:56Speaker 8: Mike Evans out there, how he plays the game. Um,
- 22:00Speaker 8: very sure handedness play strong. It looks like every time
- 22:03Speaker 8: he's lined up with a corner, he's the alpha. Um,
- 22:07Speaker 8: not going to just like, wow. You with anything that
- 22:10Speaker 8: he does from a, I don't even want to like
- 22:14Speaker 8: from like an athletic, like a visit standpoint. Like he's
- 22:16Speaker 8: not going to like, wow. You in any of that,
- 22:18Speaker 8: but always seems to be open. Always knows how to
- 22:21Speaker 8: use his body. Knows how to use his levers. And like,
- 22:23Speaker 8: like he's got long levers. He's a big, he's a
- 22:25Speaker 8: big kid. Like knows how to use all those things to,
- 22:28Speaker 8: position himself in the right spot to catch the ball
- 22:32Speaker 8: and to shield the defender. And, uh, man, it's, and
- 22:35Speaker 8: I think that's a pretty good comp. I mean, I
- 22:37Speaker 8: think just sure handed this man and, uh, the ability
- 22:41Speaker 8: to strong hands and the ability to fall forward when
- 22:44Speaker 8: he's getting tackled. And, and I, and you, you list
- 22:49Speaker 8: those numbers out and it's like, yeah, I've seen him
- 22:51Speaker 8: make plays this year and I seen him getting better
- 22:53Speaker 8: and better.
- 22:53Speaker 4: I forgot that he had such an impact in the
- 22:56Speaker 4: A & M game. Yeah.
- 22:58Speaker 8: Um, And, but like this, to me, this was, this
- 23:02Speaker 8: was like, not like a, here I am. Like, this isn't,
- 23:09Speaker 8: this was different to me.
- 23:10Speaker 6: This was for everybody else that didn't know.
- 23:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:12Speaker 8: This was like, like, if you don't know now, you know,
- 23:15Speaker 8: and I'm here. And then like that, then his ability
- 23:18Speaker 8: to run away from everybody. That was kind of the
- 23:21Speaker 8: stamp of approval. Like now I got everything. Like, I
- 23:24Speaker 8: don't have just a couple things. I got everything.
- 23:27Speaker 4: And I'm not leaving here.
- 23:29Speaker 8: And my quarterback, he's got a half-hurt hamstring, and he's
- 23:33Speaker 8: going to be dealing the ball to me all season long.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and look, this is somebody that was really good
- 23:38Speaker 1: at Hawaii a year ago. So I sat next to
- 23:40Speaker 1: my guy, Luke Dudley, shout out to Maui, on the
- 23:42Speaker 1: bus on away trips. And he's from Hawaii, so we
- 23:45Speaker 1: used to sit there. We'd watch the Rainbow Warriors sometimes
- 23:48Speaker 1: and He'd flash and show up all the time on
- 23:52Speaker 1: tape there. He had 49 catches, 963, almost 20 yards
- 23:56Speaker 1: per catch, and 12 tuds at Hawaii. So, like, he
- 23:59Speaker 1: had a pretty good resume coming in. But, like, okay,
- 24:02Speaker 1: you're like Mountain West, SEC, how's that going to translate?
- 24:04Speaker 1: But it's good to see, like, this wasn't a flash
- 24:07Speaker 1: in the pan. Like, he found the end zone 12
- 24:08Speaker 1: times last year.
- 24:09Speaker 11: He did it in 11 games, by the way. Matt,
- 24:12Speaker 11: we talked about it when Lane was signing these receivers.
- 24:15Speaker 11: We're like, he went and got a lot of big
- 24:17Speaker 11: play guys. Jackson Harris was first. Jackson Harris averaged 19.7
- 24:21Speaker 11: per catch a year ago.
- 24:23Speaker 4: He's at 17.6 this year. That's what he does. He's
- 24:26Speaker 4: falling off.
- 24:27Speaker 10: I'm telling you.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Pick it up, Jackson.
- 24:31Speaker 1: You know, but kind of going back to it, like
- 24:34Speaker 1: he had a 78-yarder last year. He's got a 70-yarder now. Again,
- 24:38Speaker 1: I knew he was a good player, and I did
- 24:40Speaker 1: see him flash when he was there. I did not
- 24:42Speaker 1: know that he would be able to leave an SEC
- 24:45Speaker 1: DB and and then also outrun an angle from an
- 24:48Speaker 1: SEC DB.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 1: And like you said, effortlessly. It didn't look like he
- 24:52Speaker 1: was straining. It looked like he was gliding a little bit.
- 24:55Speaker 8: I've known, like, I think we've all known he's been
- 24:59Speaker 8: good all season long. Yeah, even in the A &
- 25:02Speaker 8: M game, he had, what, 163? Is that what we said?
- 25:05Speaker 8: Around that. Like, okay, that's great. But I thought that
- 25:10Speaker 8: this season it was going to be, there's going to be,
- 25:13Speaker 8: four or five receivers, maybe three, four or five receivers
- 25:16Speaker 8: that are going to have a hundred plus games. It's
- 25:18Speaker 8: going to be like the Winnie Watkins game. It's going
- 25:20Speaker 8: to be the Jackson Harris game. It's going to be,
- 25:22Speaker 8: you know, whatever. And so I think, I guess I
- 25:26Speaker 8: might've just written that off the Texas A & M
- 25:28Speaker 8: game to that. Just like that was, that was Jackson
- 25:30Speaker 8: Harris's game. Like he just got the, got the right coverages,
- 25:32Speaker 8: got the right.
- 25:33Speaker 4: This and that.
- 25:35Speaker 8: Nope.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Nope. I was wrong, man.
- 25:37Speaker 8: Cause like that was, that was a, this past game proved,
- 25:41Speaker 8: me proved to me that this guy is the number
- 25:44Speaker 8: one receiver in college football and you know i i
- 25:49Speaker 8: hadn't watched all of them but i haven't watched many
- 25:52Speaker 8: that i would trust much more now i know.
- 25:55Speaker 10: There's yeah i said like jeremiah smith there's there's the
- 25:58Speaker 10: top dogs yeah out there that have been there been
- 26:00Speaker 10: on the scene for a long time but this good
- 26:02Speaker 10: jackson harris man he is a trustworthy dude and i
- 26:07Speaker 10: he's the type of receiver that as a quarterback i
- 26:09Speaker 10: would love to throw to Just from his body control,
- 26:13Speaker 10: how you can read his leverage, how you can read
- 26:16Speaker 10: him in and out of.
- 26:16Speaker 8: Breaks, the way he protects the quarterback, it's very impressive.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I am right there with you. He has been
- 26:23Speaker 1: a lot of fun to watch, and you've needed him.
- 26:26Speaker 1: You had to have him. After Tredez Green goes down
- 26:28Speaker 1: that Ole Miss game, you had to have somebody in
- 26:30Speaker 1: that relationship now that he has with Sam Levitt. And look,
- 26:33Speaker 1: Jackson Harris is dealing with some injuries because, I mean,
- 26:36Speaker 1: he's just been He's been out there.
- 26:38Speaker 6: He's been beat up. He's got a shoulder.
- 26:39Speaker 4: He's got an ankle.
- 26:40Speaker 6: He's got a little bit of everything, but he's giving
- 26:41Speaker 6: you everything he's got.
- 26:42Speaker 1: And the catch that he made that was almost like
- 26:45Speaker 1: about an inch from a catch was maybe the most
- 26:48Speaker 1: impressive play that he made. Is that where he got hurt?
- 26:51Speaker 1: He hurt his hip or something? His shoulder, I think
- 26:52Speaker 1: he landed on it.
- 26:53Speaker 4: It looked like he landed on it.
- 26:55Speaker 1: It might have been, but when he caught it, I
- 26:56Speaker 1: was like, oh, man, almost. And then we went back
- 26:59Speaker 1: and watched the replay.
- 27:00Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, man, that thing– If.
- 27:03Speaker 1: It would have got called a catch on the field,
- 27:05Speaker 1: it would have stayed a catch. Yeah, it would have.
- 27:06Speaker 1: One of those situations. A remarkable effort. So, all right.
- 27:10Speaker 1: That right there, that's a bad man.
- 27:12Speaker 6: It is, man.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I did not know we were going to spend that
- 27:14Speaker 1: whole segment talking about Jackson Harris. But, look, he deserved
- 27:16Speaker 1: it with the way that he played on Saturday. We'll
- 27:19Speaker 1: come back. We'll talk about some other big performances from
- 27:22Speaker 1: LSU individually, what they did on defense, certainly, as well.
- 27:26Speaker 1: A lot of guys to point out on that side
- 27:28Speaker 1: of the football. We'll do it right here on OTB.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Off the bench. Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn,
- 27:39Speaker 1: presented by Bayou Automotive.
- 28:07Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in.
- 28:19Speaker 1: OTB here live from the Raising Cane Studio. Continuing to
- 28:25Speaker 1: break down LSU and Auburn. LSU 38-17 victory on the road.
- 28:30Speaker 1: First road victory in the SEC since October of 2024.
- 28:36Speaker 6: So it had been a minute.
- 28:38Speaker 1: And let me tell you, as somebody that travels with
- 28:40Speaker 1: the team, those plane rides when you lose, well, there's
- 28:43Speaker 1: no talking. There's no smiling. There's no laughing. And that's
- 28:46Speaker 1: at any level of football when you lose. You know that, Matt.
- 28:48Speaker 1: And so this one was fun. This one was a
- 28:50Speaker 1: very victorious plane. You could tell victory was had. And
- 28:55Speaker 1: it was fun watching all the different other different games
- 28:58Speaker 1: that were going on because it was like UCF, BYU, Tennessee,
- 29:02Speaker 1: South Carolina. They were all going. And so, you know,
- 29:04Speaker 1: there's TVs on the plane. everybody's kind of living and
- 29:07Speaker 1: dying with every play it's like oh man this is
- 29:09Speaker 1: what this feels like this is what a plane ride
- 29:12Speaker 1: after a big dub it was funny so byu central
- 29:16Speaker 1: florida great game great college football game we'll get to
- 29:18Speaker 1: the craziness of the weekend a little bit later on
- 29:20Speaker 1: but everybody's like invested and that's after like south carolina
- 29:24Speaker 1: made the field goal everybody's like you know kind of
- 29:26Speaker 1: having some fun with that game and ucf's going to
- 29:29Speaker 1: throw the a two-point conversion right And the quarterback drops back.
- 29:33Speaker 1: He goes back, pulls his arm back, and the TVs
- 29:35Speaker 1: go off.
- 29:36Speaker 6: Oh, no. And everybody's like, what? And they're like, fuck.
- 29:40Speaker 6: seconds later, they come on, and they saw that they scored,
- 29:42Speaker 6: and it was like, what?
- 29:43Speaker 4: Oh, my God. It was fun.
- 29:44Speaker 1: It was fun to be on a plane where you
- 29:47Speaker 1: were victorious on the road in the SEC because it
- 29:51Speaker 1: had been literally two years since you had that feeling.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And one of the big reasons you had that feeling
- 29:56Speaker 1: was the defense.
- 29:58Speaker 4: From LSU. A couple of performances.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I thought Devon Keys played one of his best games
- 30:03Speaker 1: in a long time.
- 30:03Speaker 4: T.J. Dottery does T.J. Dottery things.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Umami Allen had another big game.
- 30:08Speaker 6: They couldn't block him. Unless they held him, they couldn't
- 30:10Speaker 6: really block him.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And then they, every time that it was like a
- 30:14Speaker 1: passing down for Auburn, they chipped, they doubled, they were like,
- 30:18Speaker 1: we can't block number one. So we're not even really
- 30:21Speaker 1: going to try to do it singled up. He had
- 30:23Speaker 1: another big day. Jordan Ross has another big day.
- 30:25Speaker 4: He has.
- 30:26Speaker 6: two sacks, two and a half TFLs.
- 30:28Speaker 1: He also broke up a pass, which was a big play, right?
- 30:31Speaker 1: You get out there in the flats and a lot
- 30:33Speaker 1: of times those edge defenders jump up or whatever. He
- 30:35Speaker 1: stayed calm, waited, kind of almost like pump fake the
- 30:39Speaker 1: quarterback and then stuck his paw up there, knocked the
- 30:41Speaker 1: ball down. Ty Benefield had another big day. Lamar Brown
- 30:45Speaker 1: got his first career sack. So a little bit of
- 30:47Speaker 1: everybody getting involved. Seven sacks, 12 TFLs, four passes broken
- 30:53Speaker 1: up for this LSU defense.
- 30:54Speaker 6: And P.J.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Woodland, had nine tackles out there. He was very physical
- 30:59Speaker 1: at the corner position. They tried to get to the
- 31:01Speaker 1: edge a couple of different times, and he shut that down.
- 31:05Speaker 1: And then even a guy like DJ Pickett, you kind
- 31:07Speaker 1: of forget DJ's there because they never test him. And
- 31:11Speaker 1: then when they do, he sits there, he's calm, he
- 31:14Speaker 1: lets the pass go in the air, doesn't panic, just
- 31:16Speaker 1: knocks it down.
- 31:18Speaker 6: He continues to do that over and over again.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So very, very strong performance from your LSU defense on
- 31:25Speaker 1: the road, against a team that just had success against
- 31:28Speaker 1: the Georgia defense.
- 31:30Speaker 8: Yeah, and Blake Baker was, like I said earlier, he
- 31:33Speaker 8: was absolutely in his bag in this game. They drew
- 31:36Speaker 8: up a great game plan, and they executed it. And
- 31:38Speaker 8: this is the front seven. The defensive line is a
- 31:43Speaker 8: position group that keeps getting better and better and better
- 31:47Speaker 8: and better. Of course, you just said they couldn't block
- 31:50Speaker 8: Princewell unless they held him, and they held him quite
- 31:52Speaker 8: a bit. And but they it was get three called
- 31:56Speaker 8: against him. Yeah, I think it had to have been
- 31:58Speaker 8: close to that if it wasn't more than that. They
- 32:02Speaker 8: could have called him a decent amount more as well.
- 32:04Speaker 8: But yeah, he was an animal. They couldn't block him.
- 32:06Speaker 8: You could tell that he he was he was on
- 32:10Speaker 8: one the other day. He was he wanted to prove
- 32:11Speaker 8: a point. And, you know, the fear always at 11
- 32:15Speaker 8: o'clock games is like, how are you going to start?
- 32:16Speaker 8: How's your defense going to play? What kind of energy
- 32:18Speaker 8: are you going to bring? Well, I think everybody kind
- 32:20Speaker 8: of answered the bell. Like, even the crowd. I thought
- 32:22Speaker 8: the crowd was really good at 11 a.m.
- 32:24Speaker 4: It was rocking. It was packed.
- 32:26Speaker 6: It was not an empty seat in the house.
- 32:28Speaker 8: And I think that's good for the players, too. Like,
- 32:30Speaker 8: if you're kind of in a dead stadium, then you
- 32:33Speaker 8: kind of feel that a little bit. But LSU defense
- 32:38Speaker 8: answered the call early in the morning. And, man, they
- 32:42Speaker 8: came out and they played fast. They played hard. And
- 32:44Speaker 8: they played disciplined. And I kept talking about. the gap soundness,
- 32:48Speaker 8: the gap integrity that you have to have on the
- 32:51Speaker 8: defensive front and your linebackers when you play a quarterback
- 32:54Speaker 8: like that that has had that much success at multiple
- 32:57Speaker 8: different stops every single place, running the ball, throwing the ball,
- 33:01Speaker 8: and for them to handcuff him and tie him into
- 33:04Speaker 8: the pocket like they did and not let him get out. Yeah,
- 33:08Speaker 8: he got a scramble here and there, but guess what?
- 33:11Speaker 8: The game was really already... It was really determined at
- 33:15Speaker 8: that point by the time he got out and had
- 33:16Speaker 8: that one scramble. It was just very, very impressive what
- 33:22Speaker 8: they did. And I'm telling you, the way Blake Baker's
- 33:27Speaker 8: coaching right now, and I get it. Like, you lose
- 33:30Speaker 8: a game, everybody hates everybody. And they say, well, I'm
- 33:34Speaker 8: so tired of watching who Steve is, blah, blah, blah.
- 33:38Speaker 8: I'm telling you, it's going to take an incredible quarterback
- 33:42Speaker 8: performance to beat LSU this year. Now, are there incredible
- 33:47Speaker 8: quarterback performances to be had out there?
- 33:49Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 33:50Speaker 8: Trinidad played a great game. Kenny Minchie in Kentucky played
- 33:56Speaker 8: a really, really, really, and even like a great fourth quarter. Like,
- 34:01Speaker 8: I don't think he had a touchdown pass, but man,
- 34:03Speaker 8: the way he was able to maneuver and make some
- 34:06Speaker 8: really good plays. Like I, It's going to take those
- 34:10Speaker 8: types of performance to be able to beat you this season.
- 34:13Speaker 8: And I'm looking at the regular season.
- 34:16Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 34:17Speaker 8: I don't know what quarterback I'm fearing in the regular
- 34:23Speaker 8: season right now, left in the regular season. I'm not
- 34:27Speaker 8: fearing Arch Manning. I don't fear him at home. Keelan Russell, maybe.
- 34:34Speaker 8: But I don't know if he's got the clutch gene yet.
- 34:39Speaker 8: I don't fear him because of his legs, because of
- 34:41Speaker 8: what I just saw this past weekend.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and with LSU, now it would have been a
- 34:45Speaker 1: great atmosphere, but with LSU winning like they did against
- 34:48Speaker 1: Auburn for two weeks of buildup, he's about to get
- 34:52Speaker 1: the full force of Tiger Stadium as a young player.
- 34:54Speaker 4: For sure.
- 34:55Speaker 1: And he's a very talented player, no doubt about it.
- 34:57Speaker 1: But to the point that you're trying to make, that's
- 34:59Speaker 1: going to be an environment for him that he's going
- 35:01Speaker 1: to have to deal with.
- 35:02Speaker 6: As a young football player.
- 35:03Speaker 8: And let me say, it's better for my pocket if
- 35:06Speaker 8: I build him up. Cause I got a really good
- 35:08Speaker 8: sports card of him and I want to sell it high.
- 35:10Speaker 8: I want him to have all the success in the world,
- 35:12Speaker 8: but I don't think he is. I don't think he's
- 35:14Speaker 8: set up again. Like this defense throws so much at
- 35:17Speaker 8: you at a quarterback from a pre-snap from a pre-snap look,
- 35:21Speaker 8: what you got to recognize. And then what you have
- 35:23Speaker 8: to react to after the snap, it just throws so
- 35:26Speaker 8: much at you at the college level. It is hard
- 35:30Speaker 8: for college kids to have success unless you get a
- 35:33Speaker 8: heroic performance by a quarterback.
- 35:36Speaker 4: I'll take Trinidad.
- 35:39Speaker 8: And maybe even Kenny Minchie over Arch and Keelan right
- 35:43Speaker 8: now against the Blake Baker defense.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Okay? Just because of what I've seen. I don't know.
- 35:48Speaker 8: Again, Arch, I'm not fearful of him. Now, maybe he
- 35:52Speaker 8: proves me wrong. I don't know. But I just think
- 35:56Speaker 8: against Blake Baker, how he's dialing things up and the
- 35:59Speaker 8: buy-in that he has from all 11, how they understand,
- 36:04Speaker 8: okay– all right, our defensive coordinator wants to show a
- 36:07Speaker 8: pressure here and he wants to drop these guys and
- 36:10Speaker 8: he wants.
- 36:10Speaker 4: To fill the voids with these other guys.
- 36:12Speaker 8: Like they all understand not only what they're doing, but
- 36:17Speaker 8: why they're doing it. They understand the why and it's
- 36:19Speaker 8: getting better every single week. And again, I don't, I'm
- 36:24Speaker 8: just looking at the quarterbacks and like, I hadn't been
- 36:27Speaker 8: able to say that in the past because LSU really
- 36:30Speaker 8: hadn't had an offense with Blake to back it up. Like,
- 36:33Speaker 8: And I can say that now, unless there's a heroic
- 36:36Speaker 8: performance by a quarterback, I don't think LSU can get
- 36:40Speaker 8: beat by just like a mediocre quarterback play because of
- 36:44Speaker 8: what their offense can do on the other side. They're
- 36:46Speaker 8: not going to be able to consistently sustain success against
- 36:50Speaker 8: Blake Baker. Now, can they get a lucky play here
- 36:52Speaker 8: or there? Yeah, sure, they can. But they can't sustain
- 36:56Speaker 8: success throughout the entirety of the game Against what they're doing,
- 37:01Speaker 8: unless it's a really great quarterback performance.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and throughout the show, we can maybe find our
- 37:09Speaker 1: way to a couple plays. Even if it's a TV copy,
- 37:12Speaker 1: that's fine, just because I kind of want to show
- 37:13Speaker 1: you what we're talking about and kind of some of
- 37:15Speaker 1: the scheme that you came up with that's confusing some
- 37:18Speaker 1: of the quarterbacks. Because right now, LSU's defense, and I'm
- 37:22Speaker 1: with you, Matt. If you want to say whatever you
- 37:25Speaker 1: want to say after a loss, sure, go ahead. But
- 37:28Speaker 1: even people here on this station, I was like, okay, well,
- 37:31Speaker 1: you've got to show me why. If you're going to
- 37:33Speaker 1: say what you're going to say, you've got to show
- 37:34Speaker 1: me the why. Because LSU's defense right now, in the country,
- 37:38Speaker 1: this is not in the SEC, fourth in yards allowed
- 37:42Speaker 1: in the country on defense, second in the country in sacks,
- 37:48Speaker 1: 17th in points per game in the country, sixth right
- 37:51Speaker 1: now in rushing yards given up per game, and 18th
- 37:54Speaker 1: in passing yards per game. So right now, of some
- 37:56Speaker 1: of the major stats, I would say those are probably
- 37:58Speaker 1: the five that you look at. The worst that you
- 38:01Speaker 1: are in the country is 18th. The worst you are
- 38:04Speaker 1: in the country. That's 18th in passing yards per game.
- 38:10Speaker 1: They're doing what they have to do. And to Matt's point,
- 38:14Speaker 1: the times they've gotten beat, it's been by elite quarterback play.
- 38:18Speaker 1: And look, that's something you got to, you're going to
- 38:20Speaker 1: play some more elite quarterbacks if you want to get
- 38:22Speaker 1: to where you're going. And that is something that, They've
- 38:24Speaker 1: got to figure out. It's got to be one play.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Because when you're playing an elite quarterback, it doesn't have
- 38:28Speaker 1: to be the totality of the game because, look, you're
- 38:30Speaker 1: going to go back and forth a bit.
- 38:31Speaker 6: It's can you make the one play? Can you turn
- 38:33Speaker 6: him over one time? Can you sack, strip one time?
- 38:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:37Speaker 8: And that's why I'm looking ahead. Can Keelan Russell make
- 38:41Speaker 8: a couple of plays?
- 38:42Speaker 4: Yeah. I think he can. I don't know if he can.
- 38:45Speaker 8: Sustain four quarters of good, solid quarterback play, which is
- 38:49Speaker 8: what is going to be necessary with how your offense
- 38:52Speaker 8: is playing on the other side of the ball. So,
- 38:54Speaker 8: Blake Baker with an offense behind him, like an engine
- 38:57Speaker 8: that keeps this team running, and then you got Blake
- 39:00Speaker 8: Baker calling these plays, giving those quarterbacks those pre-snap looks,
- 39:05Speaker 8: and all that, like the difficulty navigating mic declarations and
- 39:09Speaker 8: how they're going to sort out these pass projections. Like,
- 39:11Speaker 8: it's going to be a– LSU is– the way they
- 39:15Speaker 8: are coming along, and like, of course, we're homers. I
- 39:18Speaker 8: got it. But the way that every position group is
- 39:21Speaker 8: starting to get better– better and play with any like
- 39:24Speaker 8: play play with each other and the improvement that I'm
- 39:27Speaker 8: seeing and I've seen they're they're gonna be a tough
- 39:30Speaker 8: out at any point.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Last thing we'll say last stat I'll give you before
- 39:34Speaker 1: we take this break. If you just go to the
- 39:37Speaker 1: sec yards per game, cause I said, you know, fourth
- 39:40Speaker 1: in the country in yards per game. But if you
- 39:42Speaker 1: go just in the sec and this is actually with
- 39:46Speaker 1: one more game played, then the, number two, number three,
- 39:49Speaker 1: and number four. You give up 258 yards per game,
- 39:53Speaker 1: which is number one in the SEC. The second place
- 39:57Speaker 1: behind you is Oklahoma at 273. So we're talking about
- 40:02Speaker 1: 15 yards per game difference, which if you're talking about stats,
- 40:06Speaker 1: that's a big, big.
- 40:07Speaker 6: Number, the difference between number one And number two.
- 40:11Speaker 1: So, yeah, Blake Baker and that defense continues to do
- 40:13Speaker 1: their part to say the least.
- 40:14Speaker 6: All right, we will take a break. We'll be back.
- 40:17Speaker 1: We've got more OTB here live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Off the bench. All right, go to RussellPools.com, the website
- 40:26Speaker 1: for our friends at Russell Pool Company. Since the 1960s,
- 40:30Speaker 1: they've been here in South Louisiana designing.
- 40:32Speaker 6: Your custom pool.
- 40:34Speaker 1: But also, there's a couple of things that they do
- 40:35Speaker 1: that we want to make sure that you know about.
- 40:38Speaker 4: All right.
- 40:38Speaker 1: So they're going to also be the maintenance for your pool.
- 40:40Speaker 1: So after they design you an incredible pool, right? You're
- 40:44Speaker 1: incredibly happy. You love your space. They're also going to
- 40:46Speaker 1: be there to be the maintenance for your pool. They
- 40:48Speaker 1: have pool supplies everywhere.
- 40:50Speaker 4: As well.
- 40:50Speaker 1: But also something they can do, if you bought a
- 40:53Speaker 1: home that has a pool that is a little underwhelming,
- 40:55Speaker 1: or you've had a pool that's maybe it's just 30, 35,
- 40:58Speaker 1: 40 years old, and you want to change your look,
- 41:01Speaker 1: you want to change it, they can come in, they
- 41:02Speaker 1: can do that as well. They can add on to
- 41:04Speaker 1: your existing pool to give you a new look. We're
- 41:07Speaker 1: not talking about just like a new tile here or there.
- 41:09Speaker 1: We're talking about complete overhaul of your existing pool. Go
- 41:12Speaker 1: to RussellPools.com.
- 41:13Speaker 8: Yeah, that's one thing that, like, most pool companies just
- 41:15Speaker 8: can't offer is the renovation aspect of things because they
- 41:19Speaker 8: don't have the expertise, they don't have the experience. Call
- 41:21Speaker 8: Russell Pools for all your needs. The best in the
- 41:23Speaker 8: state right over there, russellpools.com.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Baby, hey.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn, presented by Bayou Automotive.
- 41:51Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in.
- 42:07Speaker 1: OTB here live from the Raising Cane studio. Continuing to
- 42:11Speaker 1: break down LSU 38, the Auburn Tigers 17. Now, we've
- 42:18Speaker 1: talked about a lot of different players, a lot of
- 42:20Speaker 1: individual effort. Sam Leavitt also, 387 yards, three touchdowns.
- 42:25Speaker 6: That's a career high for Sam.
- 42:28Speaker 1: This is as good as I've ever seen him, even
- 42:32Speaker 1: when he led Arizona State to a playoff run.
- 42:34Speaker 4: Let me ask you this. You think Sam's been really
- 42:41Speaker 4: good all season long?
- 42:44Speaker 1: Really good all season long? I think he's been good.
- 42:48Speaker 1: The answer's no. He hasn't been really good. He's been good.
- 42:51Speaker 4: He's gotten progressively better and better.
- 42:53Speaker 6: Really good since A & M?
- 42:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 42:55Speaker 4: When we hired Lane Kiffin last year, what did we
- 42:58Speaker 4: hope would happen? Offense. The SEC leader in passing. Sam Leavitt.
- 43:04Speaker 8: In yards and touchdowns. 2,158 yards and 17 touchdown passes.
- 43:09Speaker 8: Sam Leavitt leading the SEC in yards. And he's actually
- 43:14Speaker 8: tied for touchdown pass with Camario. It's 17. That is
- 43:18Speaker 8: what we signed up for. And guess what? We haven't
- 43:20Speaker 8: even gotten consistently the best Sam Leavitt we can this season.
- 43:25Speaker 6: Since the A & M game. It started out good.
- 43:26Speaker 4: But it hadn't been... really, really good. It's been like splotchy.
- 43:32Speaker 8: Like we talked about, and I talked about how, you know,
- 43:36Speaker 8: hoppy was. And we talked about how he's just looking
- 43:39Speaker 8: to run a little too much. Well, like, and we
- 43:41Speaker 8: joke about the hamstring hamstring, but we, we get it.
- 43:44Speaker 8: We it's, it's kind of a joke, but it's kind
- 43:46Speaker 8: of not a joke. It helped him slow down a lot,
- 43:49Speaker 8: but now he's just getting better and better and better.
- 43:53Speaker 8: And when we like, think about how bad the offense was,
- 43:56Speaker 8: we signed, we hired Lane Kiffin with an expectation. Well,
- 44:00Speaker 8: that expectation has been met in the form of offense.
- 44:04Speaker 8: I know we got two losses, and I get it.
- 44:06Speaker 8: That's disappointing how they came. Circumstances and all of a sudden,
- 44:10Speaker 8: teams played well against us. We were in tough environments.
- 44:14Speaker 8: My God, to say your quarterback, who hasn't even played
- 44:17Speaker 8: consistently his best football, he's starting to play his best
- 44:19Speaker 8: football now, is leading the SEC in yards and touchdown passes.
- 44:24Speaker 4: Pretty good. I would say so for sure.
- 44:27Speaker 1: And again, since that A & M game, you've seen it.
- 44:29Speaker 1: completely different quarterback, one that's taking care of the football. And, look,
- 44:34Speaker 1: I know he had a wild throw on Saturday. It
- 44:36Speaker 1: ends up hitting the ground, and he just continued on.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Cry me a river, McElroy.
- 44:42Speaker 1: It didn't even count, bud. You never had a game
- 44:44Speaker 1: like that against the Auburn Tigers, and you played them
- 44:46Speaker 1: four times. More OTB when we come back.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Off the bench.
