It is a name that is supposed to be comforting to the believer while it is dreadful to God's enemies and the enemies of His children. The Devotional emphasizes that God, the consuming fire, consumes whatever is not of Him in the life of the believer and consumes among the believer's enemies whatever is working against God's counsel in his life.
