  Marvin: Yeah, just trying to stay out of trouble, and you know, you're back.

  Marvin: You were like the traveling Matt for Memorial Day weekend, right?

  Dustin: Yeah, yeah. I went back for, you know, saw some friends, went to a wedding.

  Dustin: And as I got to see a ball game, it kind of blew into town real quick and got

  Dustin: right back in the saddle.

  Dustin: And yeah, I've been on the water every day since.

  Marvin: Yeah, it's interesting, too, because we were talking before we started recording
• 0:35
  Marvin: that you were on the road.

  Marvin: I think you literally were like, I can record any time. And your Instagram had

  Marvin: you sitting up in the upper deck of the ballpark.

  Marvin: So we kind of ad-libbed a little bit more than normal. But, you know,
• 0:48
  Marvin: one of the things we didn't tell folks is that you've got some patterns that
• 0:50
  Marvin: have gotten picked up by OMQA that are in fly shops now.
• 0:55
  Dustin: Actually picked up by MFC. So Montana Fly Company picked it up.

  Dustin: And it's, yeah, it's a caddis pattern. I've been fishing for,
• 1:04
  Dustin: you know, a number of years, both here in Wyoming and back east in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

  Dustin: So, yeah, it's a caddis pupa. It comes in a few different variations.

  Dustin: Variations um so um like you
• 1:18
  Dustin: know i like you can you can run it as a standard nymph
• 1:21
  Dustin: you can uh swing it yeah because it's got a soft tackle collar on it um there's
• 1:27
  Dustin: a protagon version of it that can be ran under a hopper so a lot of different
• 1:31
  Dustin: variations that i like to run with it but uh yeah mfc uh was gracious enough
• 1:36
  Dustin: to pick it up and so yeah folks uh if you don't see it in your local fly shop,
• 1:40
  Dustin: be sure to ask your fly shop to see about ordering some of the white,
• 1:46
  Dustin: Caddyshack from MFC.
• 1:48
  Marvin: Well, there you go. And so, you know, since you've been out on the water every
• 1:51
  Marvin: day since you've been back, what are you seeing?
• 1:54
  Dustin: Um we're seeing that you know a lot of
• 1:56
  Dustin: fish it's been really really good uh kind of on
• 1:59
  Dustin: all fronts uh you know starting north on
• 2:02
  Dustin: the on the bighorn uh quite a bit mossy now um
• 2:05
  Dustin: it usually does get mossy you know at this time
• 2:08
  Dustin: of year but i would say this is mossier earlier than normal
• 2:11
  Dustin: um the the typical fare
• 2:15
  Dustin: of scuds and sowbugs still are are doing well to
• 2:18
  Dustin: nymph them but just be aware you're gonna probably be you know picking
• 2:21
  Dustin: a lot of moss off off your flies um you can
• 2:24
  Dustin: leash the banks probably it's a little more success in faster
• 2:27
  Dustin: current um but uh otherwise yeah
• 2:30
  Dustin: you're gonna have to kind of be picking your lanes on the mile we are in the
• 2:34
  Dustin: thick of the sucker spawn right now so um we are you know so stoked because
• 2:39
  Dustin: those those big fish are uh pushing about a pathfinder and into a river system
• 2:43
  Dustin: so been really really good uh we want to cost some folks though you know make
• 2:48
  Dustin: Make sure you have a good vehicle to get out there.
• 2:50
  Dustin: We've had, you know, our typical heavy spring rains that, you know,
• 2:55
  Dustin: on that Bentonite Road driving out.
• 2:56
  Dustin: If you don't have all-wheel drive with, you know, a four-wheel drive with good
• 3:01
  Dustin: clearance, good tires, you could find yourself stuck.
• 3:03
  Dustin: And we actually saw, you know, unfortunately, a few folks in accidents and,
• 3:07
  Dustin: you know, kind of crashing the cattle gate. So if you're going out to the mile.
• 3:11
  Dustin: Even if it's not after the rain, make sure you've got a vehicle that actually can make the drive.

  Dustin: A lot of folks think that the Subarus or smaller cars can make it,
• 3:26
  Dustin: but it's going to be a little challenging.
• 3:31
  Dustin: On the reefs, things are fishing fantastic. We're starting to see more and more
• 3:35
  Dustin: PMDs coming off. And I would say that's still probably our best bug at the moment, PMB patterns.

  Dustin: Not really a whole lot of surface action.
• 3:45
  Dustin: We're still seeing some yellow sallies being taken as well, more on the mile
• 3:49
  Dustin: and more and more on the reef.
• 3:51
  Dustin: So all systems are firing on all fronts.
• 3:54
  Dustin: Water has been boosted on the mile and the reef. So it's big water right now.
• 3:59
  Dustin: So just be aware of that if you're going to go out and float it or weight fish
• 4:03
  Dustin: it to know that, you know, it's kind of bigger water. So just be,
• 4:07
  Dustin: uh, just be aware of those and, uh, you should have, uh, some success in the water.

  Marvin: Yeah. And I guess the other important thing too, is if you go out to the mile,
• 4:14
  Marvin: you have to go at least 80 miles an hour to stay on plane, right?
• 4:17
  Dustin: Yeah. You got to get on plane. Yeah. Yeah. Other, yeah. That's other,
• 4:21
  Dustin: otherwise you're going to feel all those bumps, but, uh, if you could,
• 4:24
  Dustin: if you can get your truck and your trailer on plane, you'll be just fine.

  Marvin: Yeah. And so, uh, we've got a question for you from Logan and he wanted to find

  Marvin: out where all of the public ramps are on the reef. beef.
• 4:36
  Dustin: Yeah. So in terms of launching a boat, the top public ramp on the Gray Reef
• 4:42
  Dustin: would be just below the dam on the river left side.
• 4:46
  Dustin: You're not going to have another public ramp until you hit Lusby.
• 4:49
  Dustin: River mileage, that's about eight miles downstream.
• 4:53
  Dustin: The next ramp down would be Government Bridge. So that would be,
• 4:58
  Dustin: you know, what's classically considered the reef. So you really only have those
• 5:02
  Dustin: three ramps of put-ins and take-outs.
• 5:06
  Dustin: Government Bridge is about 12 miles down from the reef ramp.
• 5:09
  Dustin: So that's really all that's public in terms of launching your boat or raft at that point.

  Dustin: Below that, you get into the trapper's route section.
• 5:19
  Dustin: You'd have Whitetail, you'd have Chalk Bluffs, and then even further down from
• 5:23
  Dustin: that, probably another 12 or so miles would be the Seacrest Ramp.

  Dustin: Once you get past that you got another four miles you're at Bessemer Bend in
• 5:33
  Dustin: the ramp there and then probably another 12 miles you're actually hitting the
• 5:36
  Dustin: town of Casper then at Robertson Road so you know on the Gray Reef itself really
• 5:43
  Dustin: the the points of launching if you're going to launch on the reef,
• 5:47
  Dustin: you're really only looking at just below the dam at the Gray Reef Dam eight
• 5:55
  Dustin: miles down you hit at Lusby, but then there's only a four mile scenic Everman break,
• 5:59
  Dustin: which would be classically the end of the Reese. So hopefully that's, that's helpful.

  Dustin: Um, you know, also want to encourage folks, you know, make sure,
• 6:07
  Dustin: uh, you, uh, you know, if you don't have Onyx, uh, carry a map with you, be looking around.

  Dustin: There's a lot of, a lot of private water that's on the Reese,
• 6:17
  Dustin: a lot of different ranches and landowners that, uh, uh, you know,
• 6:21
  Dustin: uh, we, we don't want to, um,
• 6:23
  Dustin: trespass ass on their property or anything like that, or, or,
• 6:27
  Dustin: uh, abuse those, those privileges that we might ask.

  Dustin: So, you know, just be, just be aware, um.

  Dustin: Um whether your river left river right one of the
• 6:35
  Dustin: helpful things that blm has done for us in terms
• 6:38
  Dustin: of what's public and private in terms of wage fish there are
• 6:41
  Dustin: blue and red signs so if you see a blue sign on one side of the river that indicates
• 6:46
  Dustin: that it's public all the way down so you see either a red sign or a private
• 6:51
  Dustin: trespassing sign so that's a good way you know if you if you don't uh uh know
• 6:55
  Dustin: uh the way around to identify what's public or private um but i always like to to, you know,
• 7:01
  Dustin: suggest to folks, hey, you know, download Onyx.

  Dustin: It helps out a lot to know, you know, where those boundary lines are pretty well on the reef.

  Dustin: But in terms of launching, you know, I'd say the actual gray reef ramp launch
• 7:13
  Dustin: that's right below the dam or the Lesby launch would be the way to go.

  Dustin: Well, they just released the Guide Boat Gosa a week and a nod to our guiding community here.

  Dustin: So that just came out. I'm generally a fan of the Hot Freak,

  Dustin: which is a pretty middle-of-the-road IPA.

  Dustin: So that's usually my go-to most of the time.

  Dustin: But they've got a constant rotation of their beer.

  Dustin: So they got something for everyone, whether you're into, you know,

  Dustin: pretty middle-of-the-road pilsers, loggers, whether you like,
• 8:59
  Dustin: you know, all the avant-garde sours,

  Dustin: traditional IPAs, East Coast, West Coast, that whole thing, stouts,

  Dustin: porters, they've got something for everybody. So it's a great spot.
