- 0:02Speaker 1: On this episode, we distrussed the realities of being an
- 0:06Speaker 1: Eisner Award nominated writers and What's Up, y'all, Welcome to
- 0:28Speaker 1: another episode of the four All Nerds show hits. Ship Boy,
- 0:31Speaker 1: dj Ben, I mean a Ka Lebron Shane Meek Millhouse
- 0:37Speaker 1: buzz out here, Blark Bent, Black Black Goliath, Yolo Baggins
- 0:43Speaker 1: here in the spaceship tonight, not the old one, but
- 0:50Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, I don't know why it's so funny, but
- 0:54Speaker 1: it just is a black one, the black black. I
- 1:03Speaker 1: guess that's what it is, all right, Oh that's always.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm joined by Patiana King, the grand that was a
- 1:10Speaker 2: tech also known as the Little Mermaid, trash Catchum, Dark
- 1:15Speaker 2: Chocolate Phoenix, Tasiana King, the Chalk Conqueror doctor doing something
- 1:19Speaker 2: strange for some change, the Book of a Shaki Cola
- 1:23Speaker 2: s Winter Soldier Ever Doc Aki, and Tessa rak Thompson.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I'm still just sitting here thinking about Black Black Goliath.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I guess you're right, because it's like, it's not just
- 1:36Speaker 1: the black Goliaths, it's the black black Gellas.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I'm like, it's the redundancy, unnecessary bull.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I mean that's the part of it, is the fact
- 1:47Speaker 1: that this man, because there was already a character named
- 1:50Speaker 1: Goliath in the Marvel universe when he when the Black
- 1:53Speaker 1: Man got grown powers, He's like, well, there's already a Goliath,
- 1:56Speaker 1: so I have to be Black Goliath like that is
- 2:01Speaker 1: that we gotta know the first needs to be talked about.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Of course I don't best record on my end, so
- 2:08Speaker 2: that don't have it on Dassy's.
- 2:11Speaker 1: All good, yeah, all good, good? Is it all work? Yeah? Yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 1: but yeah, welcome to the show, folks. You know we
- 2:18Speaker 1: are here. It is mid May, I think, so, you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: it's a bit of a slow news day. I guess
- 2:26Speaker 1: things are happening though. Welcome back, you know, me playing the.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Fun out the sky.
- 2:31Speaker 1: What nothing?
- 2:32Speaker 3: What you mean I mean in general?
- 2:35Speaker 1: I mean in general. Okay, I thought it wasn't today.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Gee no, not like actually, but like.
- 2:39Speaker 1: In general, I mean in general it has I mean,
- 2:42Speaker 1: there's horrible news every day right now, what I'm saying.
- 2:45Speaker 1: But yeah, bit shout out to Chris Lamberth, comedian extraordinary.
- 2:49Speaker 1: We just had him on the show, you know, talking
- 2:52Speaker 1: all kinds of things. We still have to we might
- 2:54Speaker 1: have to have him back to really for real is
- 2:58Speaker 1: power Prestige TV? I feel that that discression still, it's.
- 3:04Speaker 2: An interesting discussion. Actually, I really like Chris, and yes, Chris,
- 3:07Speaker 2: please come back to the show. We definitely need you
- 3:09Speaker 2: here just for the last as well, if not nothing else,
- 3:12Speaker 2: because you're hilarious man. But he made me start thinking
- 3:15Speaker 2: about some things with that, Like I've never heard anybody
- 3:18Speaker 2: say that, but it was pretty airtight his argument there.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah, no, and I definitely agree with him that, you know,
- 3:24Speaker 1: it's like sometimes Well, first of all, though, before we
- 3:26Speaker 1: get to that, he does have a show in New
- 3:28Speaker 1: York City June twenty seventh at Caveat, So if you're
- 3:31Speaker 1: in New York City, come through. We'll probably be there.
- 3:34Speaker 1: For that matter, well, I think i'll be there. I
- 3:35Speaker 1: don't know.
- 3:35Speaker 2: If I won't be in town, I'm gonna be Oh, well,
- 3:40Speaker 2: Houston in your town. Ain't town going down?
- 3:43Speaker 1: No shots, Chris, But you know, if I had the choice.
- 3:48Speaker 2: He understands. We haven't.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Chris.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It took so long to get Chris on the show,
- 3:52Speaker 2: just give y'all a little behind the scenes. But one
- 3:54Speaker 2: of the reasons why because we both were going to
- 3:57Speaker 2: the Kendrick Lamar const on different days, so like we
- 3:59Speaker 2: had them some stuff around, but so he understands, he
- 4:02Speaker 2: understands music, he gets it.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah. So June twenty seventh, if you're in New York City,
- 4:06Speaker 1: which I will be, I'll come through the show so
- 4:08Speaker 1: you can catch me there. Yeah, I don't think I'm
- 4:11Speaker 1: working at night. I think I'll be good. So yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 1: June twenty seventh at caveat Chris Lambert putting on the comedy,
- 4:16Speaker 1: So make sure you come check that out. And then
- 4:19Speaker 1: we were One of the things we did distress was
- 4:22Speaker 1: whether or not power is pressige TV. And Chris's argument
- 4:26Speaker 1: was that we only say things are press these TV
- 4:29Speaker 1: when white people talk about them, and that was a
- 4:33Speaker 1: strong argument that part of it I could not deny.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Now whether I would still put power in that.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I don't know if you're gonna put power in that.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I think you gotta put what Lucia's line in them,
- 4:43Speaker 2: and that that's what I'm saying stage TV for many And.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Then that means you have to put every soap opera,
- 4:50Speaker 1: you know, because that's what I consider power and Empire,
- 4:53Speaker 1: you know, to be soap operas.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Empire was personally I don't give nobody's until it jump
- 4:58Speaker 2: the Shark.
- 4:59Speaker 1: But man was throwing kids into trash cans the first season.
- 5:03Speaker 1: That's jumping the start for me.
- 5:05Speaker 2: You can't tell me, no fucking no, white people, black people,
- 5:10Speaker 2: everybody was watching that whole You can't tell me.
- 5:14Speaker 1: That I was watching it.
- 5:15Speaker 2: That last a thousand man singing.
- 5:17Speaker 1: At rap battles in the first season. It was jumping
- 5:20Speaker 1: the season early.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I mean this is different.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I know this is the movie. It's hard out here
- 5:25Speaker 2: for when we're trying to get this money.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but they wasn't singing in the battle there my
- 5:31Speaker 1: man bust into R and b at a rat battle drop.
- 5:36Speaker 1: They all forgot the joint. I mean they had. They
- 5:40Speaker 1: were in the club. You know, they were in the club.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I love the Empire. Oh my god, don't get me started.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Oh man, no, but that's my thing. I love power.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Like like we talked, we didn't. We did not get
- 5:52Speaker 1: to say we started going to what you know is
- 5:55Speaker 1: a prestigial not so neither of us said which was
- 5:57Speaker 1: our favorite power? Because he asked me that and I
- 5:59Speaker 1: didn't get the answer. I still don't know right now.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It's raising kanan, but.
- 6:07Speaker 3: I can see that being one, but I see I
- 6:10Speaker 3: have I.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Love the one with Tarik with Ghosts, with the you know,
- 6:15Speaker 1: with no Tarik with the sun the original of course,
- 6:18Speaker 1: well of course.
- 6:19Speaker 2: But I feel like you like the timeline of not
- 6:22Speaker 2: the timeline but the era that Raising Kanaan is in, So.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I mean in nineties, but it ain't like the Woo
- 6:29Speaker 1: Tang show where I was like, yo, they getting it.
- 6:31Speaker 1: You know what I mean, they getting it, but I
- 6:33Speaker 1: don't know for other ludicrousness. I have to go with Tarik,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean, And that's what I tuned
- 6:41Speaker 1: in for. So like Tarik and that white boy Brandon
- 6:45Speaker 1: selling you know, product on campus is just like, this
- 6:51Speaker 1: is what I tuned in for. So yeah, I'll go
- 6:53Speaker 1: with that.
- 6:53Speaker 3: It's Pristide TV.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I feel like Christy CB is And then that's why
- 6:58Speaker 2: I felt him when he's that about oh, because when
- 7:01Speaker 2: white people say it like, I don't necessarily think it
- 7:03Speaker 2: has to be like like the most beautifully perfect written thing.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I think Forristge TV is TV that gets asses in seats,
- 7:12Speaker 2: asses in front of well not faces, but but faces
- 7:15Speaker 2: in front of screens, like that people are watching and
- 7:20Speaker 2: talking about and are essentially obsessed with, if not for
- 7:25Speaker 2: the run of it, for a good amount of time
- 7:28Speaker 2: of it, at least a few seasons of it. Like yes,
- 7:31Speaker 2: for different reasons. Game of Thrones until a certain point
- 7:34Speaker 2: was Pristige TV. I mean, we're talking about that last
- 7:37Speaker 2: season of the first half a Game of Throws are
- 7:39Speaker 2: you're talking about House D right, But that's for CCV.
- 7:44Speaker 2: But Pristige GV right, And for some people, some people
- 7:49Speaker 2: argue it wasn't really beautiful written. It was to that,
- 7:51Speaker 2: you know, it wasn't a technical masterpiece.
- 7:53Speaker 3: It wasn't this, it wasn't that.
- 7:54Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, it was prestigious
- 7:57Speaker 2: because of how many people gave us suck. And I
- 7:59Speaker 2: think to me that is can be one of the qualifiers.
- 8:04Speaker 2: So forget the while the white people's watching it, how
- 8:07Speaker 2: many people is watching it? Understand Like, forget the when
- 8:10Speaker 2: I said white people, I'm really talking about the critics,
- 8:12Speaker 2: the people who are allegedly the tastemakers on that side
- 8:15Speaker 2: of the fence, You understand, Like, I don't think that's
- 8:18Speaker 2: that what makes prestige, right, So I.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Don't know, yeah, And I think your argument, right there
- 8:25Speaker 1: is a really good one that it doesn't have to
- 8:27Speaker 1: be the most beautifully written thing or you know, the
- 8:30Speaker 1: the most incredible production. It can just be getting asses
- 8:34Speaker 1: and seats and if we're all going to see then
- 8:36Speaker 1: if you're going by that, you gotta go see that.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Okay, that's that doesn't necessarily mean it's so what are
- 8:43Speaker 2: you about to say?
- 8:44Speaker 3: What are you about to say?
- 8:44Speaker 1: But then there's like a lot of reality TV would
- 8:47Speaker 1: didn't be considered prestige TV.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You know, the Golden Age of Housewives with Niani back
- 8:53Speaker 2: in the day was prestige reality TV. And you can
- 8:56Speaker 2: put a qualifier in front of it, just like I said.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Reality TV.
- 8:58Speaker 2: You understand, you can still do you're qualified.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Okay, yeah that was.
- 9:02Speaker 2: But that was that was when when New York, you know,
- 9:05Speaker 2: Tiffany Pollard and all that stuff, that was prestige time
- 9:09Speaker 2: for reality.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Flavor Man, prestige everyone watched.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Now you're getting what I'm saying, like, it's not necessarily
- 9:21Speaker 2: high quality. But then again you could argue that was
- 9:25Speaker 2: reality TV, not for.
- 9:27Speaker 3: What it is now, which is semi scripted.
- 9:30Speaker 1: At this point, very scripted. That my joints blind love
- 9:36Speaker 1: Love is blind.
- 9:37Speaker 2: That D like most of the is generally scripted now right,
- 9:41Speaker 2: people are cast, and not to say that they were
- 9:44Speaker 2: never cast before, but like people are.
- 9:46Speaker 3: It is damn near like.
- 9:49Speaker 2: You're being cast for a fictional character.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Not different shows to you know, one show to the next.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Like so I would argue there was a time when
- 9:59Speaker 3: that was prestige TV.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yes, And I wouldn't even say that Love is Blond
- 10:03Speaker 1: to a point, it's still prestige TV because it's pretty big,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know, like that drudn't be you know, moving, you know,
- 10:09Speaker 1: especially units. Yeah, yeah, all right, what that being said? Yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 1: shout out to Chris Lamberth and make sure y'all check
- 10:16Speaker 1: him at caveat June twenty seventh. And yeah, and also, brother,
- 10:21Speaker 1: we have to agree that Power is Prestige TV. And
- 10:25Speaker 1: since I didn't get the answer, then I will say
- 10:27Speaker 1: final answer it is damn I can't remember naming the
- 10:31Speaker 1: name of it. I always know what to show Ghosts.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I think it's ghosts. Yeah, Power Book two?
- 10:38Speaker 2: Whatever is mission impossible to final reckoning Prestige cinema.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Wow, what a segue. Well, it definitely got asses and
- 10:48Speaker 1: seats this weekend. Okay, first weekend out It was right
- 10:52Speaker 1: behind Lelo, Lilo and Stitch. You know, I've never seen anything.
- 10:57Speaker 1: You tell I've never seen that. I just know, Ohanna
- 11:03Speaker 1: means family, this nigga spitting. They got the meme of
- 11:08Speaker 1: all my man from past in period family this nigga.
- 11:20Speaker 1: But yeah, so yeah, it made the money. It got
- 11:24Speaker 1: my ass and to see this weekend, I went out
- 11:27Speaker 1: and you know saw it because unfortunately we did not
- 11:29Speaker 1: get to catch a spreener. So you know, I paid
- 11:32Speaker 1: dollars and when sat down. Because I'm a huge Mission
- 11:35Speaker 1: Impossible fan, Like you know, I've seen pretty much every
- 11:39Speaker 1: well most of them in theaters. I saw the first
- 11:41Speaker 1: one and I've you know, seen a lot of them
- 11:43Speaker 1: in theaters. This one was mistake, I am.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I know what to expect. I also was looking forward
- 11:54Speaker 2: to the conclusion of this.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah, but you have seen the last one. Yeah, and
- 11:58Speaker 1: we know that the last one was not the quality
- 12:01Speaker 1: of the Henry Caville one, or it wasn't.
- 12:05Speaker 2: But is this not we just have to coverage it.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Is this not prestige? Is this prestige, Tom Cruise. It's
- 12:10Speaker 2: not the most well written, it doesn't have the best villains.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Not because okay, see this is the thing with like
- 12:23Speaker 1: something right power, I'm always entertained. You know, no, there was.
- 12:30Speaker 2: There was no there was a clear cap cap cap
- 12:34Speaker 2: you're telling me. In three hours of tom Cruise running
- 12:38Speaker 2: and going off.
- 12:41Speaker 1: There's a lot of time time cuse crash outs. There's
- 12:46Speaker 1: there is like two or three big action scenes. Two
- 12:51Speaker 1: of them I thought were incredible. I will watch them
- 12:54Speaker 1: over and over again.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:56Speaker 1: One of them I thought was a retread of one
- 13:00Speaker 1: that we've seen before, and because of that, it does
- 13:03Speaker 1: like because I would have watched that way again. Uh.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Another but it takes place of the water. If you
- 13:07Speaker 1: see the one where he's in the water.
- 13:09Speaker 2: You know, mission impossible, thirty five to third power.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah. So but the ship on the planes that they've
- 13:18Speaker 1: shown you in the biplane sequence that you've seen some
- 13:20Speaker 1: of it the trailers, Yeah, it's ridiculous. It is like
- 13:23Speaker 1: it is purely some of the illest shit I've ever seen. Tom.
- 13:27Speaker 2: That's what I'm here for.
- 13:28Speaker 1: It's yeah, and it's well worth That alone, to me
- 13:31Speaker 1: was worth seeing in the theater. If I could have
- 13:34Speaker 1: just walked in at thirty minutes before the movie ended
- 13:38Speaker 1: and watched that scene, I would have been happy.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So are you saying everything other wasn't the action scene wasn't.
- 13:44Speaker 1: No, it is and it's like and what what really
- 13:47Speaker 1: solidified my review is after I saw it, I think
- 13:50Speaker 1: Friday morning, I went back and peeped not the Henry
- 13:54Speaker 1: cavillbur because I've seen that too many times. Uh. First
- 13:57Speaker 1: I watched the two of Jerry me Renner. I'm watching
- 13:59Speaker 1: those and both of those are like action a mile
- 14:03Speaker 1: a minute when there's exposition to be done, it's moving,
- 14:06Speaker 1: it keeps it going, you know, action scene, stunt scene,
- 14:10Speaker 1: action scene, stunt scene, movie done. This was not that.
- 14:14Speaker 1: This was yappery, yappity, yappity. Oh my god, these names hours.
- 14:21Speaker 1: At least a good thirty minutes, at least a solid
- 14:25Speaker 1: thirty minutes could be cut off. There's a there's a
- 14:29Speaker 1: lot of flashbacks, which I mean are literal like flashbacks
- 14:32Speaker 1: to earlier movies where they show you scenes from earlier
- 14:35Speaker 1: Mission Impossible films, which also isn't good when they're like
- 14:39Speaker 1: better Mission Impossible films that they're showing you scenes from.
- 14:42Speaker 1: And then a lot of it is I will say,
- 14:46Speaker 1: like an Adventures India type of thing where they're bringing
- 14:49Speaker 1: back characters and moments from earlier film and tying people
- 14:53Speaker 1: back to other characters, sometimes quite pointlessly to me. And
- 14:58Speaker 1: I mean there was one callback where it's like, this
- 15:00Speaker 1: dude is my father and I'm like, I didn't give
- 15:02Speaker 1: a ship about you before, and I don't give a ship.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I'm not gonna who was, but daddy is his daddy
- 15:12Speaker 1: is somebody from the first movie. And I was like,
- 15:15Speaker 1: I don't get here.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Nigga niggas forgot niggas. We wasn't born on the first.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Movie, you know. So a lot of people in the
- 15:21Speaker 1: theaters who haven't seen the first movie or don't remember
- 15:23Speaker 1: it or what. And there's a lot of call. There's
- 15:26Speaker 1: another even more gregious brawl back to the first movie
- 15:29Speaker 1: that takes up a lot of time that the first movie.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Don't wane when he does the famous drop from the
- 15:34Speaker 2: ceiling and okay, that's what I remember, the drop.
- 15:36Speaker 3: From the ceiling.
- 15:37Speaker 1: You do remember that because a lot of that call
- 15:39Speaker 1: that goes to that unbelievably so too. You'll be stunned.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I won't say this is this is good for rotten tomatoes.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I won't say you'll be shot in the maze. I
- 15:50Speaker 1: will say you'll be stunned. He'll be.
- 15:57Speaker 2: So wait, like I know you because I haven't seen yet,
- 16:00Speaker 2: so I've asked you not to tell me the detail.
- 16:02Speaker 3: What would you rate this?
- 16:06Speaker 2: Not against the and I'll ask for two ratings, one
- 16:09Speaker 2: just on its own in the vacuum in terms of
- 16:11Speaker 2: a mission possible film?
- 16:12Speaker 3: What would you rate this.
- 16:14Speaker 2: From the scale of like, in terms of like, okay,
- 16:17Speaker 2: like if I'm rating possible film rating the scale of
- 16:20Speaker 2: aided D, like if you give me a letter.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Grade, so like Henry cavill joint to me A whatever? Right?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 16:27Speaker 3: And within the mission possible series.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Henry cavill a both rental joints. Problem.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Okay, what about final reckoning?
- 16:36Speaker 1: And one would recipes Phillips Hoffman A D wow.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Okay, what would you rate it like that? No, no,
- 16:49Speaker 2: be honest.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Your first answer was.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Your plus because it's like it's right at the C
- 16:54Speaker 1: minus ded.
- 16:55Speaker 3: You like that the action plus action.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Those two seeds.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Okay, what would you rate it in terms of the
- 17:01Speaker 2: first half of the first half the movie was the
- 17:03Speaker 2: one was the first half of whatever.
- 17:06Speaker 3: The first half its worse.
- 17:08Speaker 2: It's worse than the first Yes, wait a minute.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Yes, the first half had that fire ass car scene.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I like that cars. I can't remember what.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Those so Dead Reckoning Part.
- 17:25Speaker 1: One damn Okay, maybe this movie needs both of them
- 17:28Speaker 1: needed to be squashed down together into two hours. If
- 17:33Speaker 1: if someone makes a cut of that where they cut
- 17:35Speaker 1: out half of the talking you know about the goddamn
- 17:38Speaker 1: entity over and over again, and there's a I mean,
- 17:41Speaker 1: and especially this when there's like I would cut out
- 17:43Speaker 1: an hour and a half of it, and I squashed
- 17:46Speaker 1: these two movies together, you would have a fin.
- 17:48Speaker 2: So you're saying that they should have just put Dead
- 17:50Speaker 2: Reckoning Part one in this final Reconding together.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Yes, and cut out so much of it and they.
- 17:56Speaker 2: So they probably already filmed it, and then well they didn't, no.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Film this mess? And I read one of you that
- 18:05Speaker 1: really to summon up the set of Best like the
- 18:07Speaker 1: Henry Caville Win was like a perfect indie, Like, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 1: he sees his ex. She's loving good. You know, he's
- 18:13Speaker 1: got the new shorty.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember he got the new girl.
- 18:16Speaker 1: He's still tight about her being murdered in the last one,
- 18:19Speaker 1: all right, Like no, but she like especially when you
- 18:24Speaker 1: go back and watch the introduced she is supposed to
- 18:27Speaker 1: be the Ethan Hunt. She's supposed to be his counterpart,
- 18:30Speaker 1: and she for you.
- 18:32Speaker 2: To think that anybody besides Tom Cruise has a chance
- 18:36Speaker 2: in this franchise is absolutely ludicrous. I'm sorry she was
- 18:43Speaker 2: framed to be. She is not Tom Cruise, therefore she
- 18:46Speaker 2: is not match her.
- 18:48Speaker 1: This is true. They wrote Jeremy Renner out of this
- 18:50Speaker 1: Jerom like it.
- 18:51Speaker 2: If your name ain't Tom Jason Momoa Cruise, you are
- 18:57Speaker 2: getting nowhere.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Well I'm still tight because Gabriel murdered her and that
- 19:03Speaker 1: shit was whack. He's cornball and she should have served
- 19:06Speaker 1: him of course. Yeah, so that was like, that's what
- 19:10Speaker 1: I'm saying. He had his new shorty. It was like
- 19:12Speaker 1: that was a perfect ending. He finished off Caville. You know,
- 19:15Speaker 1: it was a top pass film, but it made so
- 19:17Speaker 1: much money that they were like, we gotta come back
- 19:19Speaker 1: for two.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Say you gotta keep the money training.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was a mistake. They should have gone
- 19:23Speaker 1: on to another franchise, you know, and Tom because they're
- 19:26Speaker 1: doing something else now together. They're doing another thing together,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and they did all Top Gun like they could have.
- 19:31Speaker 1: They're doing Top Gun three, you know, like they can
- 19:33Speaker 1: you can do other things like that was the ending
- 19:35Speaker 1: that it should have been. Unfortunately. Yeah, there's my review Okay,
- 19:44Speaker 1: Like I said, once this comes on DVD, someone's gonna
- 19:47Speaker 1: make a cut where they where they cut out so
- 19:49Speaker 1: much of this talking exposition, Yeah, and put it together
- 19:52Speaker 1: and it could be more action and I'm gonna be
- 19:54Speaker 1: there for it.
- 19:55Speaker 3: Did you see in an Imax?
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah? No, I didn't. I saw it in Uh I
- 19:59Speaker 1: saw the Alamo shout out to the album.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Regular Yeah the strength?
- 20:03Speaker 1: What would you? Helly? It's worked well. I don't know
- 20:05Speaker 1: how much. I don't know how much of it they
- 20:07Speaker 1: actually shot on IMAX.
- 20:09Speaker 2: They said, I thought this was like ANX thing. It's
- 20:11Speaker 2: like just like, uh, that reckoning was.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it probably was. You're right, so I would say, yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 1: hell ya, Like I said, even at the Alamo when
- 20:20Speaker 1: that plane ship opens up, like there's a shot of
- 20:22Speaker 1: them like dropping in my stomach, you know, definitely fell
- 20:26Speaker 1: out of my stomach, like I felt it like that
- 20:29Speaker 1: plane ship was unbelievable.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Do you think watching the iMX would have gave you
- 20:32Speaker 2: a better experience?
- 20:33Speaker 1: No? No, Like I said, it is, you know, give
- 20:37Speaker 1: you a great experience.
- 20:38Speaker 2: You should watch it.
- 20:38Speaker 3: You should watch the forty X.
- 20:41Speaker 2: You remember, if y'all don't know what fortyxes go to
- 20:44Speaker 2: our YouTube and typing four nerds, four O nerds forty X.
- 20:48Speaker 1: It wouldn't be that problematic though, because if you so
- 20:51Speaker 1: much of them just sitting around talking, you do not
- 20:53Speaker 1: understand how much of this movie is talking.
- 20:55Speaker 2: God that the seats will punch you in the fucking
- 20:57Speaker 2: that even during the talking it.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Might wake my ass up because I was literally struggling.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Wow, yeah, what are you gonna do? But okay, either way,
- 21:06Speaker 3: I'm still seeing that whole life.
- 21:08Speaker 1: No, I would say, if you're a mission impossible fan
- 21:10Speaker 1: to see it either way.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Yeah I am. It's just seeing I'm gonna come back. Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 2: And I'm gonna tell you whether or not I agree
- 21:17Speaker 2: to SAG. In fact, we're gonna clip this me saying
- 21:19Speaker 2: this right now until the day that we talk about
- 21:22Speaker 2: it again, and we'll see the ads up it will.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Could you've already seen the lasson and like I say,
- 21:33Speaker 1: like the Lastson had that train sequence, I didn't care
- 21:36Speaker 1: about the bike, Yeah I didn't. I didn't care about
- 21:39Speaker 1: the bike, jumped out whatever they hype that ship up.
- 21:42Speaker 2: He always does that ship real life. Who cares?
- 21:46Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's too hype. And then then on screen
- 21:49Speaker 1: is like, okay, the train was rain was fire and
- 21:53Speaker 1: the and the fucking the hum vy chase through where
- 21:58Speaker 1: are they at Spain when they going to but down
- 22:00Speaker 1: the stairs and ship and he's got up to her
- 22:02Speaker 1: and they had to hop it driving a little and
- 22:07Speaker 1: then man tis my shorty palm is chasing after them
- 22:11Speaker 1: in the hummer and she looking crazy. She didn't get
- 22:14Speaker 1: near enough burning this one either. For me, it was, yeah,
- 22:17Speaker 1: Gabriel is hilarious though in this Oh my god, that
- 22:20Speaker 1: is yeah, fucking outrageously hilarious scenery.
- 22:29Speaker 3: How does he clazing the scenery?
- 22:32Speaker 1: Eating it is not enough and shooting it is not enough.
- 22:35Speaker 1: That means it's blazing the scenery? Boy, oh man, speaking.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Of blazing, you know what this reminds me of like
- 22:49Speaker 2: many many years ago in this podcast first started, and
- 22:52Speaker 2: when this is my first foray into podcasting, and you
- 22:57Speaker 2: and Kimsonian and some other people were like teaching me.
- 23:00Speaker 2: They're like, you can't just jump from topic top you
- 23:03Speaker 2: gotta do segs. And I'm talking. I'm talking to everybody
- 23:06Speaker 2: listening right now. I'm just talking to y'all. Just how
- 23:08Speaker 2: like I just sat there and listened to these men
- 23:11Speaker 2: tell me all this, these wild ideas and approaches about
- 23:14Speaker 2: how to segue between topics, and I'm listening to them
- 23:16Speaker 2: tell me something dumb and dumber.
- 23:19Speaker 3: As as it went on, I'm just like, I'm supposed
- 23:23Speaker 3: to be listening to.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Them niggas, Like I just it was some of the advice,
- 23:28Speaker 2: the advice on his head was good, but then the
- 23:30Speaker 2: examples were just bad. Yes, and it's it just and
- 23:34Speaker 2: your segue is fine, but it just reminded me of
- 23:37Speaker 2: once upon a time when segus were a lesson. So
- 23:42Speaker 2: I just had to it combat.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I was just like, what, Reggie, what are you talking about?
- 23:50Speaker 2: You can't just jump that it might have been here.
- 23:52Speaker 2: You can't just jump.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Into the topic.
- 23:54Speaker 2: You gotta have something clever to say.
- 23:56Speaker 1: And it's so funny shout out to Premium Pete because
- 23:59Speaker 1: you know me and still talks about it to this day.
- 24:01Speaker 1: We all talk about how red you would just coming
- 24:04Speaker 1: into the show and be like, hey, what do we
- 24:05Speaker 1: talk about tonight? Fellas like talk about you know, segue
- 24:08Speaker 1: he's like talking about.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I just remember that, Like I just remember that very
- 24:14Speaker 2: very distinctly. But I'm sorry, continue who's glazing?
- 24:16Speaker 1: Who? Yeah? You didn't even let me finish my segue
- 24:19Speaker 1: of speaking of blazing, I was saying that we I
- 24:25Speaker 1: think it got mentioned a little bit last week, but
- 24:27Speaker 1: not nearly enough. Folks. Jimmy Hendrix Purple Haze has been
- 24:31Speaker 1: nominated for Eisner.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Award blazing yourself fause.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I mean right now, hey, yeah, I mean that's all
- 24:41Speaker 1: I got to say. I'll take it.
- 24:44Speaker 2: But no, the jokes aside, No, this is this is
- 24:47Speaker 2: big news genre for I just I want to take
- 24:49Speaker 2: a second to be real, real serious about this, because
- 24:52Speaker 2: the Eisner is one of the one of, if not
- 24:54Speaker 2: the high the highest honor uh in this genre, in
- 24:59Speaker 2: this medium, and for deservedly Jimmy Hendris Purple hayes to
- 25:04Speaker 2: be not nominated for this, and again justinro poke Witch
- 25:10Speaker 2: for his pencils or color colors, for his colors, Yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 2: for this, and then by virtue, Ben, I mean, is
- 25:18Speaker 2: there understand, Mellow Brown is there, Tommy Drake is there.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Right, Campbell letter is there. Shout out to David the
- 25:26Speaker 1: editor as well, Tight and Publishing Jimmy Hendrix to state,
- 25:30Speaker 1: when one.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Person wins, the family wins type shit. So this is huge, y'all,
- 25:36Speaker 2: And like it's kind of like being on a super
- 25:38Speaker 2: Bowl team together, right, like like even if you want
- 25:41Speaker 2: to practice on the predial squad, you still get the ring,
- 25:45Speaker 2: still get the ring. So I just want that to
- 25:48Speaker 2: be understood, Like this is a huge, huge, just to
- 25:50Speaker 2: be nominated, obviously, it's a huge honor, and to be
- 25:54Speaker 2: this close potentially winning is even like mind blowing. And
- 25:58Speaker 2: I do want you, Ben, I mean to to revel
- 26:01Speaker 2: in that and understand that.
- 26:02Speaker 3: And I know you understand.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I don't know if you understand, Like, I don't know
- 26:05Speaker 2: if you know the depth of this, because no matter
- 26:07Speaker 2: what happens, you can now say that Jimmy Hendrix is
- 26:10Speaker 2: an eisener nominated graphic nomal that is the first and
- 26:15Speaker 2: only of its kind and probably will forever be and
- 26:20Speaker 2: only authorized version of a telling of Jimmy Hendrick's life
- 26:26Speaker 2: from his estate. Like there's so many first and exclusives
- 26:31Speaker 2: and only when it comes to Jimmy Hendricks for ways.
- 26:34Speaker 2: So I just I want you to understand that and
- 26:36Speaker 2: like absorb that detail because I don't think you understand.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I do an A don'te it's you know, first of all,
- 26:45Speaker 1: like thank you Judaisners for recognizing the book. It means
- 26:49Speaker 1: the world to us, Like Mello said, you know, just
- 26:51Speaker 1: the fact that Justin got nominated, mean, the whole book
- 26:54Speaker 1: was in contention and that people were looking at it
- 26:57Speaker 1: at that level, and that's just that's one of things
- 27:00Speaker 1: is mind blowing to me. It's one of those things
- 27:01Speaker 1: that you know, when I wrote the book, I definitely
- 27:03Speaker 1: was like I had goals and ideas and I was
- 27:06Speaker 1: like putting them into the universe. Like I was like,
- 27:07Speaker 1: we are going to get eyes and nominated, and then
- 27:10Speaker 1: we did, you know, and it was It's one of
- 27:11Speaker 1: those things where it's like when I used start off
- 27:14Speaker 1: being in the writer's room and then Mellot I got
- 27:16Speaker 1: into a writer's room. I said it would happen, and
- 27:21Speaker 1: I felt like we did the work where it deserved
- 27:23Speaker 1: to happen, but I still didn't believe it would happen. Really,
- 27:26Speaker 1: I didn't think about it, honestly. I remember when we
- 27:28Speaker 1: started getting some other nominations, I was like, cool, so
- 27:31Speaker 1: I knew the isers were coming up. I was more like, well,
- 27:35Speaker 1: when they don't nominate me, I'm gonna be like fuck me.
- 27:37Speaker 2: You know, I don't know this was on your r
- 27:41Speaker 2: I'm not saying that you would never think about it,
- 27:43Speaker 2: but I don't know if it was on your radar, right,
- 27:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah it was? Was it like you weren't gunning
- 27:49Speaker 2: for an Eisner when you wrote this or were you no?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Because all right, that's what I mean by radar. I like,
- 27:54Speaker 1: yeah when I when I wrote it though, but this
- 27:56Speaker 1: is what happened. Like I wrote it and then when
- 27:58Speaker 1: it debuted last year, debuted its handy Go coma Con
- 28:00Speaker 1: and the Isners are at San Diego coma Con. So
- 28:04Speaker 1: my book debut is and then that weekend the Eyns happened.
- 28:07Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, okay, you know the Eyesners and I
- 28:09Speaker 1: knew about the Isis, but that was my first time
- 28:11Speaker 1: being there where I'm like, okay, this is it, you know.
- 28:14Speaker 1: And I'm seeing books and people I know winning, you know,
- 28:17Speaker 1: and so I'm like, wow, well this book's really fire,
- 28:20Speaker 1: you know. I'm like it should get noticed by these people,
- 28:22Speaker 1: you know. That's what that was in my head the
- 28:24Speaker 1: whole time, like especially once I saw it and got
- 28:26Speaker 1: it in my hands and read it. Like even like
- 28:29Speaker 1: when it was like year end list, I was very
- 28:31Speaker 1: upset when I didn't see it on someone's yearing list.
- 28:33Speaker 1: I was like, well, you obviously didn't read it. That's awareness. Yeah, no,
- 28:38Speaker 1: no doubt. That's that was mentality I had because I
- 28:40Speaker 1: just knew it was that good. You know. I'm like, yo,
- 28:43Speaker 1: if you just didn't read it then, because if you
- 28:45Speaker 1: read it and you did a top fifty, it'sout of
- 28:47Speaker 1: being the top fifty. You know, if you say top ten,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I can understand it might not make it, but you
- 28:52Speaker 1: got top fifty books of last year. It's in there.
- 28:54Speaker 1: You know.
- 28:54Speaker 2: It's just like, I mean, the critics are different, but
- 28:57Speaker 2: a lot of people don't read three books.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Let yeah, no, that definitely, yeah, yeah, definitely. So it's
- 29:02Speaker 1: like it was one of those things where because you know,
- 29:06Speaker 1: you've been here through the whole process, where I didn't
- 29:09Speaker 1: I knew it was good, but it wasn't until I
- 29:11Speaker 1: don't know. It's like with anything I do, it's like
- 29:14Speaker 1: six months after I do it where I can really
- 29:16Speaker 1: sit there and be like, I still have not sat
- 29:18Speaker 1: down and read it cover to cover, you know, I
- 29:20Speaker 1: still have not done that, but I've opened it the
- 29:22Speaker 1: pages and flipped through it and read pages. I'm like, oh,
- 29:25Speaker 1: this sequence really works. You know, these two pages really
- 29:28Speaker 1: fucking worked. You know, like IM and I can read
- 29:31Speaker 1: it from an outside view now where I'm like, I'm like,
- 29:34Speaker 1: oh shit, I did write this, or Melow wrote this.
- 29:36Speaker 1: But I can, you know, look at it critically and
- 29:42Speaker 1: not so super critically, I guess. But before I was
- 29:45Speaker 1: super critical about it. Now I can be like, oh no,
- 29:47Speaker 1: this this really is really good, you know. And then
- 29:49Speaker 1: I've had distressions with people and talked about it with
- 29:52Speaker 1: people where I'm like, what Dave told me is good.
- 29:54Speaker 1: You know, I got interviewed by this woman of Monsters
- 29:57Speaker 1: Pod I think of one of the best besides of
- 29:59Speaker 1: the interview I did you It's like one of the
- 30:00Speaker 1: best interviews I've done because and it was really weird
- 30:03Speaker 1: because it was doing an interview with somebody who really
- 30:06Speaker 1: did all the research. You know. They were like, oh,
- 30:08Speaker 1: you went to Howard University. Oh you did this, you
- 30:10Speaker 1: did this, you did this. And I was like, you know, yeah,
- 30:15Speaker 1: it wasn't you felt like shit, No, it was you know,
- 30:18Speaker 1: shout out to the Monsters spot, because they really were like,
- 30:21Speaker 1: you know, pulling shit up like how you know. They
- 30:23Speaker 1: were like, oh, you bought at third Ward Houston, Texas,
- 30:25Speaker 1: you know, and I'm like, you know, I mean that's
- 30:27Speaker 1: common knowledge, but stuff. It's like it's ill you.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Also, you're also not Michael Jackson walking around where everybody
- 30:33Speaker 2: knows your life story.
- 30:33Speaker 3: So for someone to say that, it's like, okay, wait
- 30:35Speaker 3: a minute.
- 30:36Speaker 1: And I'm also like you, you know where you sit
- 30:38Speaker 1: doing the research on people. So it was really dope
- 30:40Speaker 1: to see somebody do the research and then their reaction
- 30:43Speaker 1: to the book and just a lot of you know,
- 30:44Speaker 1: a lot of different reactions. I've gotten to the book
- 30:46Speaker 1: over the year it's been out. Now it's coming up
- 30:49Speaker 1: on a year anniversary, and it's been really wild, and
- 30:51Speaker 1: that's allowed me to see, no, yeah, it deserves to
- 30:54Speaker 1: me in his eyes conversation.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I mean, and we got to follow up with him.
- 30:57Speaker 2: But we got the book into the hands of Tony Yes,
- 31:01Speaker 2: of Michael Clear of Everything fame, but also most recently
- 31:05Speaker 2: a Van Door fame. So like that's another big like
- 31:08Speaker 2: sphere and like getting the books in the hands of
- 31:11Speaker 2: people and that that you know, have a mind or
- 31:14Speaker 2: access or this or that. All that said, Like, what
- 31:18Speaker 2: I'm interested to know is now that Jimmy Hendrix Purple
- 31:21Speaker 2: Hayes is iSER nominated. What happens next? What is the
- 31:25Speaker 2: next week? Like do you go to San Diego? Koma
- 31:27Speaker 2: con or do I mean, do you go to the event,
- 31:29Speaker 2: like what happens now?
- 31:30Speaker 3: How is your life change? Do you get a million dollars?
- 31:33Speaker 3: How does this work?
- 31:34Speaker 1: No? And that's something that thank you for Ashton, that
- 31:36Speaker 1: I definitely wanted to talk about, because I don't understand
- 31:40Speaker 1: how it looks from to the outside world basically, And
- 31:43Speaker 1: what I've been told recently is people will see you
- 31:46Speaker 1: and they see os nominated like Jimmy Hendrix is the
- 31:49Speaker 1: best selling graphic novel from what I know, I don't
- 31:51Speaker 1: know the exact numbers, but I've been told it that
- 31:53Speaker 1: it did very well. It did well, and it's continuing
- 31:56Speaker 1: to do well. And with this asen, we're we're almost
- 31:59Speaker 1: I know one puver is sold out at the publishing
- 32:02Speaker 1: level and so it'll be probably going to second print finally,
- 32:05Speaker 1: and it's like less than a year, which is incredible.
- 32:08Speaker 1: And just a lot of things like a shot out
- 32:10Speaker 1: to my brother Dimitri at Anyone Comics and he's told me,
- 32:12Speaker 1: you know, like, yo, then you're doing all this stuff.
- 32:14Speaker 1: You need to realize like this is all major monumental milestones.
- 32:19Speaker 1: But for me, one, I don't, you know, a lot
- 32:22Speaker 1: of stuff I don't see I don't know everyone who
- 32:24Speaker 1: bought the book. Two I got paid me and mellow
- 32:27Speaker 1: Booth got paid to write the book years ago. It
- 32:31Speaker 1: was a cool little song, but it wasn't life changing
- 32:33Speaker 1: money or anything. It was like I could pay rent
- 32:35Speaker 1: for a couple months basically, and that was that. And
- 32:38Speaker 1: then I don't make anything from residuals like the book
- 32:42Speaker 1: and sell million copies and I won't see anything I've
- 32:45Speaker 1: anywhere you've seen me at, like as far as being
- 32:48Speaker 1: in Houston, DC, Philly, San Diego. When I'm back at
- 32:54Speaker 1: San Diego this year. When I was there last year,
- 32:56Speaker 1: everything came out of pocket, Like I've paid for all
- 32:59Speaker 1: my trips everywhere, all the promotional trips. The only way
- 33:03Speaker 1: I've made extra money is by like selling the book
- 33:06Speaker 1: at the or Comic Con last year, where we did
- 33:08Speaker 1: very well. But that was like I had to buy
- 33:10Speaker 1: copies of my own book and then sit there and
- 33:13Speaker 1: hustle them out, and you know, it made me a
- 33:16Speaker 1: little money, a little change, but it's nothing crazy. And
- 33:19Speaker 1: then the other side of it is because I'm not
- 33:23Speaker 1: you know, I am a WGA writer, et cetera. I
- 33:25Speaker 1: don't really have agency or or an agent or management
- 33:29Speaker 1: you know, representing me right now. So everything I get
- 33:32Speaker 1: is just for me, meeting people, talking to people, and
- 33:35Speaker 1: you know, like, yo, hey, I wrote a book and
- 33:37Speaker 1: I can write more. What's up and so far I
- 33:41Speaker 1: really have nothing on my plate. But you know, like
- 33:44Speaker 1: coming up, like Mellow and I are working on a project.
- 33:47Speaker 1: We're about to write something together. But that's just something
- 33:50Speaker 1: we're going to write and then you know, sell it
- 33:52Speaker 1: to someone hopefully. It's not like we're writing it commissioned
- 33:56Speaker 1: like we did when we were writing Hindreds. You know,
- 33:58Speaker 1: we were not under contract or anything. We're just writing
- 34:01Speaker 1: something on spec. And so it's one of those things
- 34:04Speaker 1: where I'm like looking for work now, I'm talking to editors,
- 34:07Speaker 1: I'm talking to artists. I might put out something else myself,
- 34:12Speaker 1: you know, like kickstart and then just also funding myself
- 34:16Speaker 1: if need be. But that's the reality of it, at least,
- 34:19Speaker 1: you know, for me. And you know, I talked to
- 34:21Speaker 1: people like Karen Gillan, who I'm a big fan of,
- 34:23Speaker 1: and he told me that it was a year between
- 34:26Speaker 1: him first getting work and his second project. So you know,
- 34:30Speaker 1: maybe I'm on that path, and you know, I'm just
- 34:32Speaker 1: continuing to plow on, continuing to hustle this book, continue
- 34:36Speaker 1: to talk about it because I'm you know, obviously, I mean,
- 34:39Speaker 1: I'm beyond proud of it. And that's the other thing
- 34:41Speaker 1: is like, it's like with a lot of things, you know,
- 34:44Speaker 1: I know, we do this show. You know, a lot
- 34:45Speaker 1: of things we do in general are kind of giving
- 34:49Speaker 1: back to the community. You know, we're not making as
- 34:51Speaker 1: much money as you know, we would like to be,
- 34:54Speaker 1: and we're finding yeah, well, I mean we're finding ways
- 34:57Speaker 1: to spend the brand that you know, make real money.
- 35:00Speaker 1: But yeah, it's like with that, with that, with the show,
- 35:05Speaker 1: I know, we do a service. And that's like the book,
- 35:07Speaker 1: you know, I know, Jimmy Anders Purple Hayes, it had
- 35:10Speaker 1: a lot of ideas needed to be discussed and I
- 35:12Speaker 1: wanted out into universe. So it was just service, you know,
- 35:15Speaker 1: just me putting that out into the universe and doing it,
- 35:18Speaker 1: you know, as a former service. So it's not where
- 35:20Speaker 1: they were. It's like, I would like to see more
- 35:23Speaker 1: money from it. And I know that. You know, I
- 35:26Speaker 1: also need to own things, you know, and I know
- 35:28Speaker 1: I need to make things that are my own property
- 35:30Speaker 1: because I don't own Purple Hazes and that's why, you know,
- 35:33Speaker 1: I'm not making the money that I want to make
- 35:35Speaker 1: from it. So that's you know, the next big thing
- 35:37Speaker 1: I will do is probably you know, will be my
- 35:40Speaker 1: own project, but I would also like to work for
- 35:43Speaker 1: other companies, so you know, we'll see what happens.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Yeah, And I was just like going on as you
- 35:48Speaker 2: were talking, I was looking online at images of the
- 35:51Speaker 2: cover again.
- 35:52Speaker 3: I mean, I have the book right here, but.
- 35:55Speaker 2: I was just like, nothing looks like this, bro. Like
- 35:59Speaker 2: I'm like looking at it was some of Tom and
- 36:01Speaker 2: d other books side by side, and I'm looking at this.
- 36:04Speaker 2: I'm like hey, And then Hendrick, your eyes stopped because
- 36:07Speaker 2: it's like, nothing looks like this. Like you could tell
- 36:11Speaker 2: Tom was like feeling himself man like he was. This
- 36:16Speaker 2: was like, and I know he'll he'll mention it. I
- 36:18Speaker 2: think he's even said that to you right like about
- 36:21Speaker 2: he was like, nah, I'm really fucking with this heavy.
- 36:25Speaker 1: That That was the That was the That was definitely
- 36:28Speaker 1: the first moment you know where I was like, oh ship.
- 36:32Speaker 1: It was like back in the day, me and my
- 36:33Speaker 1: boys shout out to the ruling class. As my crew
- 36:36Speaker 1: at DJs from DC, we put out this Biggie mixtape
- 36:40Speaker 1: and we were working on it where we we like
- 36:42Speaker 1: found all these bigg acapellas before they were readily available,
- 36:45Speaker 1: so we're like, yo, we gotta put some beats to this.
- 36:47Speaker 1: We got these, we gotta do this ship now before
- 36:50Speaker 1: somebody else does, right, And my man did a remix
- 36:53Speaker 1: to what's the joint? Now give me to loot? Things
- 36:57Speaker 1: don't changed, And when I heard this ship, I was like,
- 37:00Speaker 1: oh god, you know, like I got chills. I'm like, oh,
- 37:03Speaker 1: we really could do something here because this nigga just
- 37:07Speaker 1: played me this shit that's fucking incredible. And the midsape
- 37:10Speaker 1: actually turned in, you know, some incredible midsafe. You know,
- 37:12Speaker 1: it's some dope ass femies. It's got some traction from
- 37:14Speaker 1: et cetera. But that was the same feeling when Tom
- 37:18Speaker 1: emailed me at one point and he was like, hey man,
- 37:21Speaker 1: I'm just being really inspired. I think we've done like
- 37:23Speaker 1: the first two chapters and he was like, I'm just
- 37:26Speaker 1: really inspired by what you and Melow are writing here.
- 37:29Speaker 1: And I was like, what the fuck are you talking about?
- 37:31Speaker 2: To Yeah, and for like, you're writing a stories, y'all
- 37:36Speaker 2: stories to touch someone like that, like to the point
- 37:39Speaker 2: like I could you could tell when someone's and flow,
- 37:43Speaker 2: like I said, when someone's feeling themselves. And it's like
- 37:45Speaker 2: the art wherever way it manifests, whether it's music, whether
- 37:49Speaker 2: it's just there creating some type of creativity, it manifests different.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Like when you look at his covers next to that
- 37:56Speaker 2: don't look the same. It's a different level of I'm interested.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he was a Hindreds fan of his whole life.
- 38:06Speaker 1: And then like he said, I mean he told us,
- 38:09Speaker 1: you know, we inspired him. And then Justin is another
- 38:12Speaker 1: thing because like I even gave Justin a little grief
- 38:15Speaker 1: when I first saw the colors because there was like
- 38:17Speaker 1: one little detail that I wanted to be like, I'm
- 38:19Speaker 1: wondering like this, and Meloe was like, shut the fuck up,
- 38:22Speaker 1: you know. And after that, I, you know, profusely apologized
- 38:27Speaker 1: to Justin. And we've been oh, I've told him and
- 38:34Speaker 1: and then you know, and I've been on record on
- 38:37Speaker 1: pretty much every interview I've ever done about this book
- 38:39Speaker 1: that I said that if we ever got a second print,
- 38:42Speaker 1: his name needed to be on the cover along with ours.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I've been said that, and I'm so happy that I've
- 38:48Speaker 1: been on record saying that now that he's nominated, because
- 38:50Speaker 1: I just I feel it in my heart. Like colorists
- 38:54Speaker 1: in general do not get enough credit. Letterers don't get
- 38:56Speaker 1: enough credit. It's always on the cover of every comic
- 38:59Speaker 1: is always the right and the artist, you know, usually
- 39:01Speaker 1: the penciler. Back in the day, the inker wouldn't even
- 39:04Speaker 1: get credit. Now a lot of people ink themselves, et cetera.
- 39:06Speaker 1: But used to be, you know, writer and penciler on
- 39:08Speaker 1: the cover and that was it. And then it became writer,
- 39:10Speaker 1: penciler inker and then like some people do, like writer
- 39:14Speaker 1: like Wick and Vine always loved because they shot out
- 39:16Speaker 1: their colors. You know, Matt Wilson is on every cover
- 39:19Speaker 1: of every book. It is Dylan, you know, Gylan McKelvey
- 39:23Speaker 1: and Wilson, you know what I mean. And I've always
- 39:25Speaker 1: loved that because he is one of the biggest contributors
- 39:28Speaker 1: how dope that book is. And Justin Perklevich is, like
- 39:32Speaker 1: I mean, he's immensely responsible for how incredible Purple Haze is.
- 39:37Speaker 1: So I'm so happy one that he got nominated and
- 39:41Speaker 1: that this brings I saw him, he immediately changed his bio.
- 39:44Speaker 1: I love to see it, you know, like he's a colorist.
- 39:47Speaker 1: So the Eisner nominated you know, nominated.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Colors And I'm sorry you answered this ready, but are
- 39:53Speaker 2: you going to be there? Like, are you y'all get
- 39:56Speaker 2: to go to the source of Wars together again?
- 40:00Speaker 1: I get I get a ticket to the isers. That's it.
- 40:03Speaker 1: I have to pay for my way to San Diego.
- 40:05Speaker 2: What I mean is access, Like you know, Nigga's cheap.
- 40:08Speaker 2: They're not gonna you know, they're not gonna do you
- 40:11Speaker 2: in and nothing like that.
- 40:12Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I'm hoping they flew justin in.
- 40:15Speaker 1: They better fly my under game. But yeah, but no,
- 40:20Speaker 1: I plan to be there because Mellow has recently moved
- 40:23Speaker 1: to Japan. He's out in Tokyo right now. Shout out
- 40:26Speaker 1: to Melo, congratulations, Yeah, and making that trip and get
- 40:32Speaker 1: it there safely. And he's out there living it up.
- 40:34Speaker 1: So he won't be at A ten because of that.
- 40:38Speaker 1: So yeah, man, I think I might have to because,
- 40:41Speaker 1: like I've been saying, who else is don't mean in
- 40:43Speaker 1: the audience looking shots but me, you know, like none
- 40:46Speaker 1: of the other people are gonna be out there, you know,
- 40:48Speaker 1: but you know, so yeah, we need that, you know,
- 40:51Speaker 1: the ISS needs that, like you know when they say
- 40:54Speaker 1: Justin's name, somebody got licked shots. You know what I mean?
- 41:01Speaker 1: More fire.
- 41:02Speaker 2: None of this ghetto in here can not flying you out.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Man. I am definitely licking shots. Better be glad I
- 41:09Speaker 1: don't have like a what's the purple prayer? You know,
- 41:17Speaker 1: be mad at me.
- 41:18Speaker 2: That's why they don't invite us now, because they know
- 41:23Speaker 2: how to act. Don't bring me in there.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the last.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Talk about loud.
- 41:29Speaker 1: I talk about disruptive, but no, that is my plan
- 41:32Speaker 1: to be there in July and be at there and
- 41:36Speaker 1: you know, cheering my brother Justin perkle witch on because
- 41:40Speaker 1: I'm you know, it is real. It will be a
- 41:42Speaker 1: year since the book came out, you know, so I
- 41:44Speaker 1: got to walk around and stunt, you know, talk Tom,
- 41:46Speaker 1: you know, all the different people. It's crazy. I remember
- 41:49Speaker 1: last year and I was just reading, uh one of
- 41:53Speaker 1: his books today. Shout out to Tom Kane because last
- 41:56Speaker 1: year I went up to his table. He had a
- 41:58Speaker 1: table with I can remember the Wonder Woman artists, but
- 42:00Speaker 1: they had the table together and I was like, hey,
- 42:03Speaker 1: you know, mister Kay, nice to meet you. And you know,
- 42:06Speaker 1: I wrote this book and Tom Mandrake is my artist.
- 42:09Speaker 1: He was like Tom Mandrick Jordis and I was like, yeah, no,
- 42:11Speaker 1: it's fucking crazy, bro.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Honestly, again, whoever had to say on that and made
- 42:19Speaker 2: that happen. You're a fucking genius about getting man Drake.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean that was just tighten. They they've
- 42:24Speaker 1: been had him. I think they'd worked together, just like
- 42:27Speaker 1: they'd worked together with Mellow. They'd already worked together and
- 42:29Speaker 1: they knew he was Oh, they they knew he was Hendrids.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And because like I've told the story when when you talked,
- 42:35Speaker 1: when we talked about it, but he was on the
- 42:38Speaker 1: book before us, because this was like the second iteration
- 42:41Speaker 1: of this book. Like they they had something before and
- 42:44Speaker 1: it just kind of fell apart. You know, they had
- 42:46Speaker 1: another writer and it was a different version. It wasn't
- 42:48Speaker 1: like the sci fi fantasy tale we were doing, but
- 42:51Speaker 1: they were working on it, and Mandrake was working on it.
- 42:54Speaker 1: They never got to the part where he started drawing,
- 42:57Speaker 1: but he had done some stretches and stuff, and so
- 43:00Speaker 1: when we came on, he was already ready to go
- 43:02Speaker 1: and just waiting. And so yeah, and like I've also
- 43:06Speaker 1: said this too, Like you know, I talked about Justin
- 43:08Speaker 1: ID say about Mandred because I think I've told Mandred,
- 43:10Speaker 1: but I've said him many a time, Like I didn't
- 43:13Speaker 1: know who the fuck he was because he did a
- 43:15Speaker 1: lot of books for DC and I wasn't a big
- 43:17Speaker 1: DC fan, and then he did a lot of horror stuff,
- 43:20Speaker 1: so I really wasn't a man, you know, I just
- 43:23Speaker 1: wasn't into it. I probably seen his work at some
- 43:26Speaker 1: point or another because he'd done a lot of books,
- 43:28Speaker 1: but I did not know his name. When they told us.
- 43:30Speaker 1: When they're like, okay, you got to the gig and
- 43:33Speaker 1: Tom and Drake's the artists, I was like, all right,
- 43:35Speaker 1: cool you and then went to Google and that's when
- 43:38Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god. You know, like this
- 43:40Speaker 1: dude is he's one of the greatest. You know, he
- 43:43Speaker 1: is literally you know in that like you had to
- 43:46Speaker 1: put him in that class of classical trained artists like
- 43:50Speaker 1: Neil Adams, Starenko, you know, just the original greats. He
- 43:55Speaker 1: is one of them, John Byrne, anyone like man, you
- 44:00Speaker 1: know it really like it's it. As grateful as I
- 44:04Speaker 1: am for a lot of those things, it just it
- 44:05Speaker 1: does hurt me all the time that like people like
- 44:07Speaker 1: combat Jack and Dallas been on here to see it
- 44:10Speaker 1: because they you know, the people who like would be.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Like men Drake, Ben, you know, yeah they see it, Ben.
- 44:18Speaker 1: I know they do.
- 44:19Speaker 3: I know they see it for sure.
- 44:20Speaker 1: I know. Yeah. So thank you. Overall, all said and done,
- 44:27Speaker 1: it has been the most amazing journey. And again if
- 44:31Speaker 1: anyone would like to talk to me more about you know,
- 44:33Speaker 1: this journey. You know, if you have a show out there,
- 44:35Speaker 1: I got to respond to somebody they DM me. They
- 44:37Speaker 1: were like they got a small show, and I'm definitely
- 44:39Speaker 1: gonna hit you back, I promise you.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Oh yeah, And that goes for the both of us.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Like if you want Ben, I mean and I to
- 44:46Speaker 2: come on your show together, solo, whatever, if you.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Want us, if you're looking for for hosts.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Like whatever, like anything where you you know you're looking
- 44:57Speaker 2: for our expertise. Are you're looking for us to be
- 44:58Speaker 2: participating in something? Hit us up. Doesn't mean we're gonna
- 45:01Speaker 2: say yes. We might say yes to everything. But when
- 45:07Speaker 2: I'm talking about released the crazy ship, like yeah, well
- 45:10Speaker 2: you know what, it couldn't be too crazy because if
- 45:11Speaker 2: you asked that, I mean to DJ one of your.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Strip clubs, maybe he might do it.
- 45:15Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, so, ain't know. Maybe that's
- 45:18Speaker 2: what I'm saying. I think I think it depends.
- 45:20Speaker 1: On you know.
- 45:23Speaker 2: You right, so, but yeah, like whatever it is, like,
- 45:25Speaker 2: reach out to us because you know, at the end
- 45:27Speaker 2: of the day, we're both in entertainment, we're both creators,
- 45:30Speaker 2: we're both hosts, and you will both have something to say.
- 45:33Speaker 2: And if you're looking on how to reach out to us,
- 45:35Speaker 2: just contact at four O nerds dot com.
- 45:39Speaker 3: Email us. That's how we and the team will be
- 45:41Speaker 3: able to see it.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Mm hmm. This ain't much of a segree, but they
- 45:45Speaker 1: cancel the Black Panther game.
- 45:52Speaker 2: That's what I would get yelled at for what you
- 45:54Speaker 2: just did.
- 45:54Speaker 3: I would get yelled at back in the day.
- 45:56Speaker 2: You got to do better.
- 45:57Speaker 3: I'm not surprised.
- 46:00Speaker 1: You. I did not. This is the Black Panther game
- 46:04Speaker 1: that was coming from EA Electronic Arts. I had no
- 46:07Speaker 1: idea that this dayn't even existed until it got canceled.
- 46:10Speaker 3: Well that's the reason.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I knew that there is this other what is it,
- 46:15Speaker 1: Marvel nineteen forty three Rise of Hydra, Yeah, that's coming
- 46:19Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six, allegedly that but I know they've
- 46:23Speaker 1: had like some type of trailer mark Bendy and he's
- 46:26Speaker 1: writing on that. But yeah, that was supposed to be,
- 46:30Speaker 1: you know, taking place in nineteen forty three and featuring
- 46:32Speaker 1: Steve Rogers and to Chaka, to Challah's father battling, you know,
- 46:36Speaker 1: against the Rise of Hydra.
- 46:38Speaker 3: All right. See now when you told me about that, I.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Knew about the actually, Zury not even yeah, not even know.
- 46:44Speaker 3: About the Captain America part.
- 46:45Speaker 2: But I had no idea that, Zuri, Sorry, Zuri, That's
- 46:50Speaker 2: why they had no idea. I was like, when did
- 46:51Speaker 2: Black Panther come into playing that? I knew it was
- 46:53Speaker 2: about Captain America. Now this I knew about this down
- 46:57Speaker 2: Loan Black Panther game, but I knew, like I just
- 47:00Speaker 2: knew because they are constantly and I know this is
- 47:03Speaker 2: this is EA, but they're constantly disappointing me when it
- 47:07Speaker 2: comes to anything related to Black Panther outside of Ryan Coogler.
- 47:11Speaker 2: It's like, does Ryan got to handle it? We may
- 47:13Speaker 2: not fucking see it. I just don't trust these people
- 47:16Speaker 2: at all, do you.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Not? Especially?
- 47:22Speaker 2: And then there was like mad layoffs, like wave after
- 47:26Speaker 2: wave of layoffs for the last like two three years
- 47:28Speaker 2: at EA. So I'm just like, you know what, they're
- 47:31Speaker 2: gonna fucking cut the blacks anything. I'm just saying and whatever.
- 47:38Speaker 3: I wasn't surprised. I just got to say that.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I mean, EA still makes Madden, right and all. That's
- 47:43Speaker 1: where their real money is.
- 47:44Speaker 3: Like they still make the same shit over and over again.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, so that's what their money is. They ain't
- 47:49Speaker 1: worried about this ship. And you know, like it's not
- 47:52Speaker 1: Insomnia who has the Spider Man franchise, which you know
- 47:56Speaker 1: has been fire and they're about to drop the Wolverine joint.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I think that's nets year still though, but that, you know,
- 48:03Speaker 1: is like the one I was looking forward to because
- 48:05Speaker 1: they did such a fantastic job with the Spider Man joints,
- 48:08Speaker 1: and I was like anything, And I just read some
- 48:10Speaker 1: them recently where I remember because I'd forgotten about it,
- 48:13Speaker 1: but they were talking about how at one point they
- 48:14Speaker 1: were actually gonna have a whole like MCU type you know, universes,
- 48:19Speaker 1: and that's not happening, so best for getting this Spider
- 48:22Speaker 1: Man and Wolverine it seems right now. Damn. I mean
- 48:27Speaker 1: that Guardians of the Galaxy, they've had a bunch of
- 48:29Speaker 1: dope games. It's just like we haven't had a whole
- 48:33Speaker 1: like a universe, you know, where it's like other than
- 48:35Speaker 1: Marvel Rivals. Probably I was.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Gonna say Marvel, like you wanted to see your people's
- 48:40Speaker 2: go there to that want to say everybody there?
- 48:43Speaker 1: Yeah, because and they're adding a character a month.
- 48:45Speaker 2: They say, now, yeah, like and and I don't know,
- 48:49Speaker 2: maybe that's what it is. Also they're just like, I mean,
- 48:51Speaker 2: even though that's a different studio, I was just gonna
- 48:53Speaker 2: put everybody over there.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's like, yeah, I don't I don't
- 48:58Speaker 1: know how these licenses work where Marvel Rivals get to
- 49:01Speaker 1: use everyone and the Spider Man game would just have
- 49:04Speaker 1: the Avengers Tower and no Avenger. It's like, I don't.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Remember man Sony still owns the video gaming rights. Yeah,
- 49:12Speaker 2: so that they don't have access to everything. Technically now
- 49:15Speaker 2: they could do side deals with Disney.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Yeah you know, yeah that's what that was Marvel, but.
- 49:23Speaker 2: That's still Spider Man. Still Sony.
- 49:25Speaker 1: What was working out for Marvel Rivals, because you know,
- 49:28Speaker 1: we talked about it before on the show. I was
- 49:31Speaker 1: asked and now I'm you know, I'm pretty nice. I
- 49:33Speaker 1: actually got up to gold level in the competitive this
- 49:38Speaker 1: season for you. Yeah, I was trying to go further,
- 49:40Speaker 1: but then I was scared of losing my gold rank
- 49:42Speaker 1: and it's about to be over. So I was like,
- 49:44Speaker 1: now stop right here and get this little gold and
- 49:46Speaker 1: be good, and then next season I'll go for patent.
- 49:48Speaker 1: But yeah, the Marvel Rivals is lit. You know, it's
- 49:50Speaker 1: like they you know, you get all the characters, all
- 49:52Speaker 1: the interactions, you got all this lore. I love it.
- 49:55Speaker 1: You know, costumes the lower that ship's fire. So shout
- 49:59Speaker 1: out to black Pants. Sorry about that, Brock and Marvel Rivals.
- 50:02Speaker 2: At least I'm gonna need I'm gonna need to watch
- 50:05Speaker 2: or if you stream when you play, I gonna need
- 50:07Speaker 2: to watch because I think the best, most entertaining, funniest
- 50:12Speaker 2: people that game are black people.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Like I'm so.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Maybe if you talk, because black people are the funniest.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Like there's this guy I watch on TikTok.
- 50:27Speaker 2: He is Jamaican and like he's usually doing the VR
- 50:32Speaker 2: stuff and like he has like this one that came
- 50:35Speaker 2: up today where like he's playing this game where it's
- 50:38Speaker 2: just like you are, you're figuring out whether like you're
- 50:43Speaker 2: you're in like the Post of Pocket with the zombie times, right,
- 50:46Speaker 2: and you're trying to determine whether or not people who
- 50:48Speaker 2: are coming into the quarantine zone, whether they're infected or not,
- 50:51Speaker 2: and whether they should be sent for like quarantine, whether.
- 50:54Speaker 3: They should be allowed in, or whether they get liquidated.
- 50:57Speaker 2: And he'd be like going off on these NPCs because
- 51:01Speaker 2: there's MPCs, let me tell you. And it's the funniest
- 51:03Speaker 2: fucking thing. And I'm like, non black people cannot do this,
- 51:06Speaker 2: not in this way, not like a Jamaican being a guard,
- 51:10Speaker 2: like imagine, I was real like a Jamaican being a
- 51:13Speaker 2: guard letting you know whether or not you can come in.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Also like walking dead meat Jamaica shit blah blah blah,
- 51:21Speaker 2: like no way, no way, like white people.
- 51:24Speaker 1: The funniest thing. Yeah, No, I'm better on the show.
- 51:29Speaker 1: I I don't know. I keep saying, I'm a stream
- 51:32Speaker 1: I finally got my DJ setup where it's right where
- 51:35Speaker 1: it's like perfect for streaming, and I'm still just.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Like, you know what's also funny?
- 51:41Speaker 2: Sorry, And it has had nothing to do with Jamaica's Luna, Luna,
- 51:44Speaker 2: our very own Luna who he streams his R games,
- 51:49Speaker 2: him and his friends doing all this foolishness in them
- 51:52Speaker 2: games is the funniest fucking thing and like, and I
- 51:55Speaker 2: think that's part of it's like not caring, like just talking,
- 52:00Speaker 2: shooting the shit, just saying whatever the fuck and just
- 52:02Speaker 2: not caring how it sounds or looks, and that's why
- 52:05Speaker 2: it is that much funnier.
- 52:06Speaker 3: And maybe that's why you said you felt like you're boring.
- 52:08Speaker 2: But I don't know if you're thinking about, oh, I
- 52:10Speaker 2: shouldn't say that while you're gaming, or I don't know, but.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's probably a lot of that, and it's like, yeah,
- 52:15Speaker 1: it's like the self consciousness of it. And then it's
- 52:18Speaker 1: like I'm just usually overthinking. It is what it is.
- 52:23Speaker 1: And I guess I'll just have to start streaming some
- 52:24Speaker 1: more of rivals because I'm actually good and I'll be
- 52:27Speaker 1: whooping motherfucker's ass, like I call like fifty bodies one time.
- 52:32Speaker 2: I would like to start, like I want to be
- 52:36Speaker 2: like a Paul Hammon and start like booking people against
- 52:39Speaker 2: you on matches, like real life people and like setting
- 52:43Speaker 2: setting matches and no dead ass, Like I think I
- 52:45Speaker 2: would be good at it.
- 52:47Speaker 1: Well, if anyone out there, if any listeners, I have
- 52:50Speaker 1: added a couple of people like people will hit me
- 52:53Speaker 1: up and you know, they add me and then they'll
- 52:55Speaker 1: never like say anything again. So I don't know if
- 52:57Speaker 1: you're actually a listener to the show or just somebody
- 52:59Speaker 1: else playing against But anyway, my PlayStation gamer tag is
- 53:03Speaker 1: DJ Ben I mean, and for now it's DJ Ben
- 53:06Speaker 1: I mean on Marvel Rivals as well. I'm about to
- 53:09Speaker 1: change that thoughts are nothing but bodies. But yeah, right now,
- 53:12Speaker 1: DJ Ben I mean, so add me on PlayStation or whatever,
- 53:17Speaker 1: and I will rock with you on Marvel Rivals. But
- 53:20Speaker 1: you know, send me a message, chriuse you go through
- 53:22Speaker 1: me first.
- 53:23Speaker 2: I'm not your manager. Listen at me, Tatiana King. Hit
- 53:28Speaker 2: me up if you want to get booked, and then
- 53:30Speaker 2: we'll talk about it, okay, and I set you up.
- 53:32Speaker 2: I'll see what you're about, and I'll set up the matches, okay,
- 53:35Speaker 2: Because first of all, I said, I think I'll be
- 53:37Speaker 2: damn good at this, and I think I would get
- 53:39Speaker 2: you what you need to be able to.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Become a champion. I'm serious, I'm serious. Through me.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Sorry. Another thing we got to do is this summer,
- 53:47Speaker 1: at some point we had to have some type of
- 53:50Speaker 1: video game tournament tournament in person at anyone comments in
- 53:54Speaker 1: Brooklyn because to me, she's been trying to set it up.
- 53:57Speaker 1: We've got it in You're gonna put a nice TV
- 53:59Speaker 1: in there. Yeah, actually got the nice TV in there. Now,
- 54:01Speaker 1: we got the N sixty four, so we can rob
- 54:03Speaker 1: some old school go to night Mario Kart Bomberman, or
- 54:07Speaker 1: we can bring in the PS you know, and you
- 54:09Speaker 1: know I'll whoop you in person. So either way we
- 54:11Speaker 1: got to figure it out.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Well, let's talk. Let's do a game that I can
- 54:16Speaker 3: whoop you in person.
- 54:16Speaker 2: So we gotta go do another Fallners soon probably, but
- 54:20Speaker 2: for og Nerds game night soon, either that or Smash
- 54:22Speaker 2: Brothers or some shit.
- 54:23Speaker 3: But we gotta do another game night soon together.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Whether it's like a board game or it's like just
- 54:27Speaker 2: another online like like multiplayer type game, like like multi
- 54:31Speaker 2: screen multiplayer game, like, we gotta do that.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Yeah, most definitely that's coming up for sure.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Anything else before we get out of here, just.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Two remind people just love each other. Be positive. All
- 54:46Speaker 3: you got is each other, especially in the world we're
- 54:49Speaker 3: in right now. Especially and if you live in a.
- 54:51Speaker 2: Certain country, uh these days where their mascot is an eagle,
- 54:55Speaker 2: I just implore you to please be careful and just
- 55:00Speaker 2: trust yourself, trust your family, don't worry about nothing else.
- 55:04Speaker 2: That's all I gotta say.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Empathy. Empathy is something people need more of. Absolutely. I
- 55:11Speaker 1: was going to talk about this earlier. One of my
- 55:13Speaker 1: brothers sent me a video earlier this week. It was weird.
- 55:17Speaker 1: I had to actually ask about it because it was
- 55:18Speaker 1: there's some dude who I guess has some followers on
- 55:21Speaker 1: Instagram and he was talking I don't know. He was,
- 55:24Speaker 1: you know, an auditorium, talking to an audience, and basically
- 55:28Speaker 1: from what I gleaned from the video is that the
- 55:31Speaker 1: man was asking him a question and somehow the answer
- 55:35Speaker 1: was that you need less spirit of women in you right, Like, yeah,
- 55:39Speaker 1: the spirit of women was infecting men and you know,
- 55:43Speaker 1: because men are gentle creatures and women are conniving and stuff.
- 55:46Speaker 1: And he It honestly disturbed me that my friend had
- 55:50Speaker 1: sent me this, you know. I was like, yo, bro,
- 55:52Speaker 1: what's up? You know? And I asked him today because
- 55:54Speaker 1: it had been on my mind to to send me,
- 55:56Speaker 1: and so today I explained to him. I was like, fam,
- 55:58Speaker 1: I really think that that's you know, I don't listen
- 56:01Speaker 1: to white men in general, and I don't listen to
- 56:03Speaker 1: no chin having white men, especially like if you have
- 56:06Speaker 1: no chin, I'm sorry for you, but I can't you know,
- 56:09Speaker 1: no like you usually have weird takes, no shots. You know,
- 56:13Speaker 1: some of y'all no chin are probably good people, but
- 56:15Speaker 1: you know, you know who I'm talking about, and so yeah,
- 56:19Speaker 1: it's it was just very disturbing to me because it's like,
- 56:22Speaker 1: you know, the spirit of women and men are gentle creatures,
- 56:25Speaker 1: like in what fucking world? And one of my biggest
- 56:29Speaker 1: problems with the world today is that I feel like
- 56:31Speaker 1: we don't recognize women as human beings. So I was
- 56:35Speaker 1: just really disturbed by this video and I was like, man,
- 56:37Speaker 1: what's going on? Are you good? Bro? You know? And
- 56:39Speaker 1: I'm waiting on an answer. He doesn't answer me, but
- 56:42Speaker 1: I'm just like, yo, what's just not good? No, no,
- 56:46Speaker 1: he's not. And I think that a lot of men
- 56:48Speaker 1: are not good, and a lot of time I've been like,
- 56:51Speaker 1: you know, well, oh well, you know to them. But
- 56:54Speaker 1: I do see the damage and flipped and ship. Oh damn.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Once again, shout out to Chris Lambert because after we
- 57:00Speaker 1: record an episode, I did go watch magazine Dreams quick,
- 57:04Speaker 1: really quick. I think, uh, mister Majors, Jonathan Majors is
- 57:09Speaker 1: incredible in the role, and like Chris says, we don't
- 57:12Speaker 1: get to see black people do this type of role
- 57:14Speaker 1: that often. And I do think the film was trying
- 57:18Speaker 1: to speak to the idea of male loneliness and you
- 57:22Speaker 1: know this.
- 57:23Speaker 2: The toxic yeah, or being pushed into that toxic space.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Yes, okay. I just felt like Jonathan Major's character also
- 57:31Speaker 1: had some other trauma. Like him, he has major trauma
- 57:34Speaker 1: that is more like infecting him or doing the damage
- 57:39Speaker 1: than like the male loneliness part of it, you know.
- 57:42Speaker 1: So I felt like it's like he's not a case
- 57:44Speaker 1: study because it's like, you know, Batman ain't a case
- 57:47Speaker 1: study for male loneliness, you know what I mean, just
- 57:49Speaker 1: like it's too extreme, you know. But that being said,
- 57:53Speaker 1: I thought Major's performance was incredible. The movie is not
- 58:00Speaker 1: and what I'm looking for, you know, but I thought
- 58:02Speaker 1: he's incredible and definitely deserves to be, you know, mentioned
- 58:05Speaker 1: at the very least when you know, all the nominations
- 58:08Speaker 1: for anything go out this year, because he eats it alive.
- 58:11Speaker 1: He's a disturbed man and he is you know, playing
- 58:14Speaker 1: it well you.
- 58:15Speaker 3: Know what, let me not say continue you and I.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Know and you took the words out of my mouth too.
- 58:22Speaker 1: It's like I wasn't an alley open, and I was like,
- 58:24Speaker 1: you know, and then you know, I was like the
- 58:26Speaker 1: shot went up, and he was like, well, I just
- 58:29Speaker 1: you know, helping it. You know, I thought it was
- 58:34Speaker 1: past to me. You know, I was asking shooting for
- 58:37Speaker 1: the hoop, but You're just like, you know, let me
- 58:38Speaker 1: just help me go ahead. As soon as I set
- 58:42Speaker 1: it out my mouth, I was like, Hey.
- 58:51Speaker 2: What's up.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Internet's in the fan fam.
