- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost, October 4 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of this Sunday, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes the following. This Sunday called on account of its gospel Sunday of the marriage guests reminds us that all men are called to heavenly bliss. The Jews have refused to take part in the feast.
- 0:45Therefore, the apostles and the church filled with the Holy Ghost at Pentecost have turned towards the Gentiles. But the beatific union is announced, prepared, and in a certain manner begun by sacramental communion. To take part in a marriage feast among the Jews, it was necessary to wear a ceremonial garment called a wedding garment. Similarly, to receive the body of Jesus at the holy table and to be in communion with his divinity in heaven, one must wear the nuptial robe of baptism and of the state of grace. Therefore the apostle exhorts us to put on the new man.
- 1:40In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen. The Intuit. I am the refuge of my people, says the Lord. When they cry out to me in time of trouble, I will listen to them and prove myself their Lord forever.
- 2:07Listen, my people, to this testament of mine. Do not turn a deaf ear to the words I speak. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. I am the refuge of my people says the Lord.
- 2:35When they cry out to me in time of trouble, I will listen to them and prove myself their Lord forever. The Collect, let us pray. Almighty and merciful God, have pity and shut out all things that war against us so that with bodies and souls unencumbered and minds at peace, we may accomplish thy will through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians.
- 3:30Brethren, there must be a renewal in the inner life of your minds. You must be clothed in the new self which is created in God's image, justified, and sanctified through the truth. Away with falsehood then. Let everyone speak out the truth to his neighbor. Membership of the body binds us to one another.
- 3:59Do not let resentment lead you into sin. The sunset must not find you still angry. Do not give the devil his opportunity. The man who was a thief must be a thief no longer. Let him work instead and earn by his own labor the blessings he will be able to share with those who are in need.
- 4:32The gradual, let my prayer be directed as incense in thy sight, O Lord. The lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice. Alleluia. Alleluia. Praise the Lord and call upon his name.
- 4:52Tell the story of his doings for all the nations to hear. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time, Jesus once more spoke to the chief priests and the Pharisees in parables. Here is an image of the kingdom of heaven.
- 5:20There was once a king who held a marriage feast for his son and sent out his servants with a summons to all those whom he had invited to the wedding. But they would not come. Then he sent other servants with a fresh summons bidding them tell those who had been invited by this I have prepared my feast. The oxen have been killed and the fatlings. All is ready now.
- 5:52Come to the wedding. But still they paid no heed and went off on other errands one to his farm in the country and another to his trading. And the rest laid hands upon his servants and insulted and killed them. The king fell into a rage when he heard of it and sent out his troops to put those murderers to death and burn their city. After this he said to his servants, here is the marriage feast already and those who had been invited have proved unworthy of it.
- 6:42You must go out to the street corners and invite all whom you find there to the wedding. And his servants went out into the streets where they mustered all they could find, rogues and honest men together. And so the wedding had its full tale of guests. But when the king came in to look at the company, he saw a man there who had no wedding garment on. My friend, he said, how didst thou come to be here without a wedding garment?
- 7:22Whereupon he made no reply. And the king said to his servants, bind him hand and foot and cast him out into the darkness where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Many are called but few are chosen. The offertory, though affliction surrounds my path, thou dost preserve me, O Lord. It is thy power that confronts my enemy's malice, thy right hand that rescues me.
- 8:06The secret. We beg thee, O Lord, that these gifts which we are offering in the sight of thy majesty may help us on the way to salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The Preface of the Most Holy Trinity. Just it is and fitting right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, who together with thine only begotten son and the Holy Ghost art one God, one Lord, not in the oneness of a single person, but in the trinity of one substance.
- 9:08For what we believe by thy revelation of thy glory, the same do we believe of thy son, the same of the Holy Ghost without difference or separation so that in confessing the true and eternal Godhead distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. In praise of which the angels and archangels, the cherubim also and Seraphim day by day exalt without end with one voice saying, holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
- 10:07Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Above all else it binds us the charge thou hast given us to keep. How shall my steps be surely guided to keep faith with thy covenant? The post communion.
- 10:32Let us pray. O Lord, may thy healing work gently rid us of our waywardness and make us ever hold fast to thy commandments through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.
- 11:13Thanks be to God.
