- 1:40Speaker 4: by now this is the fourth year I think that
- 1:42Speaker 4: we've done this. We do something a little bit different
- 1:44Speaker 4: on Christmas Eve programming. Note no show tomorrow. We'll be
- 1:48Speaker 4: back on Thursday. I bring in my good friend and
- 1:51Speaker 4: frequent tag team partner and apparently my brother and I'll
- 1:54Speaker 4: tell that story a little bit later on Mike Pushkin, Michael,
- 1:57Speaker 4: good morning, welcome to the show. Good morning, and Merry Christmas,
- 2:00Speaker 4: Merry Christmas, even Happy honikun.
- 2:02Speaker 7: Which starts tomorrow.
- 2:03Speaker 4: That starts tomorrow. We call this the Jewish Christmas spectacular.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Now Pushkin's on the show, and anytime that Mike and
- 2:10Speaker 4: I are on together there's usually a little back and forth.
- 2:13Speaker 4: But today is a day that is absolutely one percent
- 2:16Speaker 4: free of politics. No politics, no news, no anything unless
- 2:21Speaker 4: it's good news.
- 2:22Speaker 7: Right mate, that's right. I promise. I promise as no politics.
- 2:26Speaker 4: As do I.
- 2:27Speaker 8: Now.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Dale Cooper is producing the show today, so you're going
- 2:30Speaker 4: to be treated to the musical stylings of Mike Pushkin
- 2:33Speaker 4: a little bit later on in the show, and he's
- 2:35Speaker 4: brought a very very special guest in with him this morning.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Tell us your name. Hi, I'm Malaysia and you are
- 2:42Speaker 4: very pretty well known in musical circles here in the
- 2:45Speaker 4: Charleston and surrounding areas.
- 2:47Speaker 9: Yeah, I play violin with almost everybody you know, Almost
- 2:52Speaker 9: every one I know.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Is that a band called almost everyone you know? I
- 2:56Speaker 4: like it. So we're going to be hearing from these
- 2:57Speaker 4: two a little bit later on across the hall, because
- 3:00Speaker 4: you know, with the remodeling thing, we don't have the
- 3:02Speaker 4: big studio we do, so we've got people in various
- 3:05Speaker 4: locations across the hall. I have got the man who
- 3:08Speaker 4: is actually making this show possible in addition to producer
- 3:11Speaker 4: Dale Cooper, and that is Rich Lindsey Rich. Good morning, Hey,
- 3:16Speaker 4: good morning, Dave, Merry Christmas to you. Thank you for
- 3:18Speaker 4: being here, Thank you for sponsoring the show as well.
- 3:21Speaker 4: This was an idea that last year. I said on
- 3:24Speaker 4: the show I was going to do it, and you
- 3:25Speaker 4: just called me up out of the clear blue sky
- 3:27Speaker 4: and said, man, I would love to sponsor that show.
- 3:30Speaker 4: So we appreciate that.
- 3:31Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm happy to be here, and I'm happy to
- 3:32Speaker 10: be here with some good people. I'm having to share
- 3:34Speaker 10: a room with Tony the Taylor and he's got enough
- 3:37Speaker 10: personality to take up the building to.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Tony the Taylor's the sponsor for text line Oh Anthony,
- 3:43Speaker 4: good morning, good morning, Mary, Honika, and whatever else we
- 3:48Speaker 4: can throw in there. As I said, Dale Cooper's here, Coop,
- 3:50Speaker 4: just go ahead and say good morning to the folks.
- 3:52Speaker 11: Good morning folks.
- 3:53Speaker 4: And I've got Steve Animal and I've got Shockley from
- 3:56Speaker 4: our sister station ninety eight seven a mountain floating around.
- 3:59Speaker 4: I've got Leah my office made up there. I've got
- 4:03Speaker 4: Bobby Spry sales, you know, always calls the sales team,
- 4:07Speaker 4: the sales weasels. I guess we should say the sales
- 4:10Speaker 4: weasel at is Bobby Spry.
- 4:12Speaker 11: She's kind of servage me here debut you on air
- 4:13Speaker 11: last week for the Charles and Christmas Bread. So she's
- 4:15Speaker 11: got some good will on the broadcast side of things, and.
- 4:17Speaker 4: She did a fantastic, fantastic job.
- 4:20Speaker 12: She she really did.
- 4:21Speaker 4: So we're gonna hear from some Christmas music a little
- 4:23Speaker 4: bit later on some holiday cheer if you will. I
- 4:26Speaker 4: would like to though urge you if you would like
- 4:29Speaker 4: to call us, you got us all on this morning.
- 4:32Speaker 4: You can call us on the big Ley Piggley Wiggly
- 4:33Speaker 4: hotline three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty
- 4:36Speaker 4: eight and the text line courtesy of Tony the Taylor's
- 4:39Speaker 4: three zero four nine three five five zero zero eight.
- 4:42Speaker 4: So you can call us, you can text us. We're
- 4:44Speaker 4: gonna put you on the air. You're gonna hear some
- 4:46Speaker 4: some some Christmas stories, whatever else we can come up
- 4:50Speaker 4: with as well. Mike, I'm gonna start with you growing
- 4:54Speaker 4: up as a kid of a boy, growing up as
- 4:57Speaker 4: a what as a kid of a boy. That's that's
- 4:59Speaker 4: an express my grandpa used to use of a boy
- 5:02Speaker 4: as a kid of a boy.
- 5:03Speaker 7: I always a cute little boy. So I don't understand
- 5:05Speaker 7: kid of a boy I was. You know, I was
- 5:07Speaker 7: brought up. I was a kid of of of my
- 5:09Speaker 7: parents were grown up. We're already started, We're already started.
- 5:14Speaker 7: All right, I'm sorry, I promised. All right, But tell
- 5:17Speaker 7: me what the holiday season was like for.
- 5:18Speaker 12: You growing up?
- 5:19Speaker 7: Well it was. I mean, it's a little bit different
- 5:21Speaker 7: because you know, I'm Jewish, so we celebrated Hanukah, which
- 5:26Speaker 7: you know, the gifts aren't aren't you know, aren't great.
- 5:29Speaker 7: You know, you think they already have eight days of gifts,
- 5:31Speaker 7: but they're like they were very overly practical gifts.
- 5:33Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:34Speaker 7: It's like, you know, like a new pair of pants
- 5:37Speaker 7: or you know, winter coat, which I mean, I'm I'm
- 5:39Speaker 7: grateful for that winter coat. But you know, we didn't
- 5:42Speaker 7: get the more the flashier gifts often so but no,
- 5:45Speaker 7: it was great. I mean it's uh. I always liked
- 5:48Speaker 7: being out of school. That was always good, and I
- 5:51Speaker 7: enjoy other people having fun.
- 5:53Speaker 4: So and as a kid liked the holiday.
- 5:55Speaker 11: It's great.
- 5:55Speaker 4: As a kid of the seventies, like like I am,
- 5:58Speaker 4: you and I actually born in the same year. I
- 6:00Speaker 4: will point out you're older than I am. Uh So,
- 6:02Speaker 4: what you're saying is is the big toys back in
- 6:04Speaker 4: those days. It was the Evil can Eevil stuff, and
- 6:07Speaker 4: it was the Bonic Man and the Star Wars stuff
- 6:09Speaker 4: just wasn't what.
- 6:10Speaker 7: Wasn't what you know what I mean, I did you
- 6:13Speaker 7: know there was one night like where you got gifts
- 6:15Speaker 7: like that to be fair and because everybody you know, said,
- 6:18Speaker 7: oh you're so lucky, you had eight nights of gifts,
- 6:19Speaker 7: but a lot of those were just fillert material.
- 6:22Speaker 11: It was like more like back to school.
- 6:24Speaker 4: At some point you're getting you're getting a bag of
- 6:25Speaker 4: lace potato chips.
- 6:26Speaker 7: But yeah, you're going to getting great stuff every night.
- 6:29Speaker 7: But I did have uh you brought up the Evil
- 6:32Speaker 7: can Eevl thing, and that was everybody's favorite toy, uh,
- 6:35Speaker 7: you know in the seventies because it was just so durable.
- 6:39Speaker 4: It was the crap out like, yeah, apparently fascinating guy.
- 6:43Speaker 4: By the way, we can spend on an entire show
- 6:44Speaker 4: to should do a whole show on an Evil can.
- 6:46Speaker 4: I had the bike, you know, I had the the
- 6:49Speaker 4: white the bike. As a kid, I had, I had
- 6:51Speaker 4: the bike.
- 6:51Speaker 11: You can never complete the stunts like when the commercial,
- 6:53Speaker 11: It just never landed.
- 6:55Speaker 4: I tried. That's the probably why I am the way
- 6:57Speaker 4: I am now because I hit my head on more
- 6:58Speaker 4: than one occasion. I like, we should want to talk
- 7:00Speaker 4: about the holiday season or whatever you want to talk about.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Tell us about elation.
- 7:05Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 9: So I'm a mom, so my life is centered around
- 7:08Speaker 9: making a child very happy for her holiday. But yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 9: I'm a teacher too, so I use this time to
- 7:14Speaker 9: kind of hibernate.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Okay, that's amazing, nothing wrong with that, Tony the Taylor.
- 7:19Speaker 4: I'm going to bring you in to talk about. So
- 7:21Speaker 4: just some of your your your holiday memories. What was
- 7:23Speaker 4: it like for you growing.
- 7:24Speaker 14: Up, well, growing up in Italian and East End. If
- 7:27Speaker 14: you've seen the movie The Feast of Seven Fishes, which
- 7:30Speaker 14: is set in Clarksburg, West Virginia, not unlike that, Christmas
- 7:35Speaker 14: Eve is the big Christmas day in the neighborhood across
- 7:40Speaker 14: the street. A bunch of talies lived in our neighborhood,
- 7:42Speaker 14: and I would cook and make cookies from Thanksgiving on
- 7:47Speaker 14: and we would just celebrate.
- 7:48Speaker 4: It was just a just a great.
- 7:49Speaker 14: Time to grow up. And the just everybody's faith and
- 7:56Speaker 14: it was just great. And the kids in the neighborhood
- 7:58Speaker 14: and then you wake up Christmas morning and Santa Claus
- 8:00Speaker 14: had brought you know, my evil. I had evil too,
- 8:03Speaker 14: Probably don't have it somewhere in a basement, because those
- 8:06Speaker 14: things never die, just like evil and evil.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he's still around somewhere. Uh, coop, what about you?
- 8:12Speaker 11: What about man? Christmas? For me right now, it's it's
- 8:15Speaker 11: really it's something else. I'm fifty years old. I turned
- 8:17Speaker 11: fifty this year, but I have a six year old daughter.
- 8:19Speaker 11: So for me, I have a bunch of old men
- 8:23Speaker 11: without daughter Christmas practices that my wife and I had
- 8:26Speaker 11: for years, and that I had for years before I
- 8:28Speaker 11: met my wife. And so it has been a revolution,
- 8:32Speaker 11: a revelation to add a six year old's perspective, or
- 8:35Speaker 11: you know, progressively from an infant to a six year old.
- 8:37Speaker 11: It's now the perfect age for Christmas for her. She's
- 8:40Speaker 11: an inquisitive and an intelligent kid, and we're always trying
- 8:43Speaker 11: to hide the presence and get through the things, and
- 8:46Speaker 11: she's just an amazing thing. That's really changed my appreciation
- 8:49Speaker 11: of Christmas all over again as an adults, as an
- 8:52Speaker 11: older adult now, because I see it all through her
- 8:54Speaker 11: eyes and it's pretty much everything is for her. On Christmas. Now,
- 8:57Speaker 11: it's like my wife and I exchange a couple of things.
- 9:00Speaker 11: We throw, we get it out of the way, and
- 9:01Speaker 11: then we just let the kid have the day.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Tex says, Evil can Eevil is dead. Yeah, we're aware
- 9:06Speaker 4: he is now.
- 9:07Speaker 11: Nature eventually got him.
- 9:08Speaker 4: He's a live in my basement. All right, Tony, you
- 9:12Speaker 4: got a text here? Tex says, would it be seven
- 9:15Speaker 4: fish not seven fishes?
- 9:18Speaker 14: Possibly? I guess as long as we have seven, seven
- 9:21Speaker 14: is the key number.
- 9:22Speaker 11: I always always rely on the Godfather when it comes
- 9:24Speaker 11: to things like that, and it's swimming with the fishes, right,
- 9:26Speaker 11: so so it must.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Be we We don't tell Godfather jokes around. Tony's very
- 9:35Speaker 4: culturally insensitive. We don't do that, all right, rich rich lindsay.
- 9:41Speaker 4: And by the way, he's about to be judge. Rich lindsay, Yes,
- 9:45Speaker 4: all right, so talk about So are you judge elected
- 9:49Speaker 4: at this point? Is that is that the official title?
- 9:51Speaker 7: No?
- 9:51Speaker 12: Judge?
- 9:51Speaker 2: I was.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Have you already been sworn in?
- 9:53Speaker 5: Yes?
- 9:53Speaker 10: Okay, so there's going to be a ceremony in January.
- 9:56Speaker 10: I was sworn in officially about a week ago. But
- 10:00Speaker 10: as Christmas, as far as a Christmas memory, I'm kind
- 10:02Speaker 10: of like Tony, to the extent that a lot of food.
- 10:06Speaker 10: My grandmother Mama made food for three or four days beforehand.
- 10:10Speaker 10: We had ham on Christmas Eve, we had a big breakfast.
- 10:13Speaker 10: The next day. We had a big turkey dinner that
- 10:16Speaker 10: evening Christmas Day or Christmas night day night. A lot
- 10:19Speaker 10: of chocolates and cookies. I used to eat a dozen
- 10:21Speaker 10: at a time.
- 10:22Speaker 4: What do you mean, what do you mean used to?
- 10:24Speaker 6: No, No, I had to.
- 10:26Speaker 4: I mean I've had lunch with you, Rich I've seen it.
- 10:29Speaker 4: You know, I've seen I've seen it in the past.
- 10:30Speaker 4: But we want to say, you know, thank you to
- 10:33Speaker 4: you for a green to sponsor of the show today.
- 10:35Speaker 4: I mean, I guess is And by the way, if
- 10:37Speaker 4: you're tuning in expecting that you're going to hear a
- 10:39Speaker 4: professional radio show, well you wouldn't be listening to my
- 10:41Speaker 4: show to begin with anyway, but probably not today because
- 10:44Speaker 4: it's going to be very, very informal. We've got doors
- 10:46Speaker 4: propped up, and we've got musicians in the studio. And
- 10:48Speaker 4: I do want to remind you that Todave Island Show

- 15:09Speaker 4: for a long time, you and your family here in Charleston.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Give us the brief history of brief history.
- 15:15Speaker 14: My dad started nineteen seventy four as a tailor shop
- 15:17Speaker 14: on Summer Street, and we just grew, grew and grew.
- 15:22Speaker 14: We had a very large store on Chourier Street back
- 15:24Speaker 14: in the heyday of Charleston, back in the nineties and
- 15:28Speaker 14: early two thousands. And then after he passed, we changed
- 15:32Speaker 14: my business model a little bit to downscale it and
- 15:35Speaker 14: sold my buildings, moved to back to my roots of
- 15:38Speaker 14: just being a tailor, and then that has grown back
- 15:41Speaker 14: into we're the probably the largest store in West Virginia,
- 15:44Speaker 14: one of the largest in them in Atlantic now.
- 15:46Speaker 4: And you do these trunk shows that are very very popular.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Would you basically take the show on the road?
- 15:51Speaker 5: Man?
- 15:51Speaker 4: You go everywhere?
- 15:52Speaker 14: Yeap, just came back right before Christmas, did Knoxville, Atlanta,
- 15:56Speaker 14: and Charlotte, and I go to Miami, It'sburgh, Columbus, d C.
- 16:01Speaker 14: I travel all over the East coast here and sometimes
- 16:04Speaker 14: fly to the West coast to visit clients.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Talk about the changes that you had seen in the
- 16:10Speaker 4: I mean, because over the last couple of years there
- 16:13Speaker 4: has been so many changes in because you do we
- 16:15Speaker 4: we say on the show, the Westernrginians find this men's store,
- 16:18Speaker 4: and obviously you specialize and all different kinds of of
- 16:21Speaker 4: sports wear, but you also have the quote unquote dress
- 16:25Speaker 4: up kind of clothes. Uh so, but there's been a
- 16:28Speaker 4: big change in the in the attire at work over
- 16:31Speaker 4: the last few years. Talk about that there has.
- 16:33Speaker 14: This casualization, uh, you know, work from home and working remotely,
- 16:37Speaker 14: which is actually switching back to offices as we see
- 16:40Speaker 14: as happening has Uh you know the zoom meetings and
- 16:45Speaker 14: all everybody has a suit coat on and no pants on. Well,
- 16:48Speaker 14: you pretty much have to wear pants anymore. You go outside.
- 16:51Speaker 11: A lot of pants.
- 16:52Speaker 14: You should, but uh, you know, I'm on my seventh
- 16:55Speaker 14: death of the suit. Nobody's gonna wear a suit anymore.
- 16:57Speaker 14: This is my seventh go round on that. Still our
- 17:00Speaker 14: biggest selling category are suits.
- 17:02Speaker 7: So Tony, this is this is Mike over with the
- 17:05Speaker 7: advent as zoom or are you finding that you're selling
- 17:07Speaker 7: less pants.
- 17:10Speaker 14: A lot of sport coats. We sell great underwear too,
- 17:14Speaker 14: would underwear fantastic?
- 17:16Speaker 4: God, here we go. Anytime that you get to Tony
- 17:19Speaker 4: talking about underwear, it's going to take it entirely.
- 17:21Speaker 14: Hey, we sell the best underwear in the world.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Well, and I will say this, here's the thing about
- 17:25Speaker 4: Tony the Taylor and I'm and I have said on
- 17:27Speaker 4: the show, i am a'm a I'm a proud customer
- 17:30Speaker 4: Tony the Tailor. He may not want me to tell
- 17:32Speaker 4: people that I wear Tony the Taylor, but this sport
- 17:35Speaker 4: coat that I am wearing now came from Tony the Tailor.
- 17:38Speaker 4: The shoes that I have on came from Tony the Tailor.
- 17:42Speaker 4: I don't know about the underwear though, I think my
- 17:43Speaker 4: wife just picked that up like a big loser.
- 17:46Speaker 10: Well, you know, Tony is so good. He makes Dave
- 17:49Speaker 10: look good. With y close to im possible.
- 17:51Speaker 13: There you go.
- 17:52Speaker 4: I think we have a phone call, so let's go
- 17:53Speaker 4: to the phones. Good morning, you're on the Jewish Christmas Spectacular. Hello,
- 17:59Speaker 4: you're on the air.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Hi.
- 18:01Speaker 8: My name is Steve and I just discovered Tony the
- 18:04Speaker 8: Taylor within the last year and a half. And I've
- 18:07Speaker 8: always bought online what we're pretty high quality clothing. I
- 18:12Speaker 8: had never had bespoke made suits and sport coach before
- 18:17Speaker 8: and it's not all that much more expensive. But man,
- 18:20Speaker 8: they are so much better. And those guys do a
- 18:22Speaker 8: nice job on their suits they make.
- 18:24Speaker 11: And thank you, Steve.
- 18:26Speaker 4: I appreciate that, all right, Steve, We appreciate you coming.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Thanks so like, go ahead, no, go ahead.
- 18:30Speaker 8: No, no, I just I can't go. I can't recommend
- 18:33Speaker 8: you enough. And it's not really that much more expensive
- 18:36Speaker 8: to have something made, custom made, all.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Right, thank you, So Steve, appreciate your phone call. See
- 18:40Speaker 4: there's another happy Tony the Tailor customer that was not
- 18:44Speaker 4: even a paid testomer. No, no, not at all. But
- 18:47Speaker 4: there is a difference though, because you know, in having
- 18:50Speaker 4: something as you said, Taylor made and having good quality, yeah,
- 18:53Speaker 4: you're going to pay a little bit more for it,
- 18:55Speaker 4: but it's also going to last you a lot longer.
- 18:57Speaker 14: Tony, the dollar value is extreme one of those.
- 19:00Speaker 4: And indeed, but Dave Island showing five Ady Line Brown
- 19:03Speaker 4: to You, parted by Morgan to Morgan if You're injured
- 19:04Speaker 4: hired Morgan to Morgan in America's largest injury law firm.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Rich Lindsay, I'm gonna, of course you're you're one of
- 19:12Speaker 4: our sponsors here, and I appreciate it. I'm going to
- 19:14Speaker 4: ask you the question that the honorable Rich I'm gonna
- 19:18Speaker 4: go ahead and ask you the question that everybody wants
- 19:20Speaker 4: to ask. What are you gonna wear under the road?
- 19:22Speaker 10: Please say something, Tony the Taylor tie suit, shoes. That's
- 19:28Speaker 10: what I'm wearing. So in fact, I've got to go
- 19:30Speaker 10: see him in January because I start, I think on
- 19:32Speaker 10: January the second, So I got to make a quick stop.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Oka says, I think I start January second. Shouldn't you
- 19:36Speaker 4: know that?
- 19:37Speaker 9: Rich? Well, no, I do.
- 19:38Speaker 10: I start January the second, But I want to keep
- 19:40Speaker 10: your listeners on their feet. I guess I don't know.
- 19:42Speaker 4: I'll tell you the quick Rich Lindsay story. Rich and
- 19:44Speaker 4: I knew each other sort of kind of but didn't
- 19:46Speaker 4: that well. One day on the air, I don't know what,
- 19:49Speaker 4: somebody sent a text or something about it was the grill,
- 19:52Speaker 4: right Rich, that was the grill or the Smokehouse. Smokeout,
- 19:56Speaker 4: smoke out about the Smokehouse. And I said on the
- 20:00Speaker 4: air that I had never eaten at the Smokehouse in Charleston.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Rich didn't know him that well at the time. Gets
- 20:05Speaker 4: a hold of me and says, I want to take
- 20:07Speaker 4: you to lunch there at the Smokehouse. And that was
- 20:10Speaker 4: a very very nice gesture. I think I had to
- 20:11Speaker 4: pay for it, but still no, actually he paid for it.
- 20:15Speaker 4: You introduced me to that and and I am forever
- 20:19Speaker 4: grateful for that. Thank you, sir.
- 20:20Speaker 10: That's a great spot here in Charleston, all time spot.
- 20:23Speaker 10: Mike does good work down there.
- 20:25Speaker 5: It is.
- 20:25Speaker 4: And you know, I can easily turn this show into
- 20:27Speaker 4: a food show, which I'm not going to do, but
- 20:29Speaker 4: I will tell you Charleston and I you know, Chef
- 20:33Speaker 4: Paul is a regular on the show. He's regular with
- 20:34Speaker 4: coopan weekly in the afternoon, does a fantastic job with
- 20:37Speaker 4: the food here in Charleston. And Tony you know that
- 20:39Speaker 4: Tony the Taylor your a food guy.
- 20:41Speaker 11: Like I am.
- 20:41Speaker 4: We got some fantastic eating establishments here in Charleston.
- 20:44Speaker 14: Amazing, I mean amazing culinary skills here in some places
- 20:48Speaker 14: you don't even know that. You don't even know they
- 20:49Speaker 14: have great food until we actually go in there and eat.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm glad to see that the folks have opened
- 20:53Speaker 4: up the Courrier Diner again and had lunch there a
- 20:55Speaker 4: couple of weeks ago. And I'm very glad to see
- 20:58Speaker 4: that that's opened again. That's because that was an iconic
- 21:00Speaker 4: spot for you Charleston folks. That was a very iconic spot.
- 21:02Speaker 11: Yeah, I thought this out for for folks that are looking.
- 21:05Speaker 11: I hadn't. I hadn't been to Groove yet since it
- 21:07Speaker 11: reopened and rebranded not that long ago. And we were
- 21:10Speaker 11: out there for the parade and the Charles and Christmas Parade,
- 21:13Speaker 11: and I took my whole family that includes my seventy
- 21:15Speaker 11: two year old mother and my six year old daughter
- 21:16Speaker 11: across the street. Mom. Downtown nine o'clock on a Tuesday
- 21:20Speaker 11: night was pretty amazing last week. Although it's more of
- 21:23Speaker 11: a bar atmosphere, they took care of us really wonderfully.
- 21:26Speaker 11: It was fantastic service, great food, just as a casual
- 21:29Speaker 11: recommendation that place was great.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Totally agree, Yeah, totally.
- 21:32Speaker 11: The food was fantastic. The burgers in the sandwiches are
- 21:35Speaker 11: really The.
- 21:35Speaker 10: Food keeps getting better here in Charleston. I think it's
- 21:37Speaker 10: almost like there's an unspoken competition they keep better in themselves.
- 21:41Speaker 4: So yeah, absolutely. But Dave Aland showing five baby line

- 22:24Speaker 4: That's awesome. It's awesome again. Tony the Taylor's with us,
- 22:28Speaker 4: Elisha is here, Mike Pushkin is here. Do you want
- 22:30Speaker 4: to go and get the song? Rity now, yeah, let's
- 22:32Speaker 4: do it. Okay, So we're going to be entertained now
- 22:35Speaker 4: by the musical stylings of Alisha and Mike Pushkin.
- 22:38Speaker 7: Go ahead, I'd like to dedicate the song. Bear with
- 22:41Speaker 7: me for a second. I've got the unhappy news that
- 22:43Speaker 7: one of your avid listeners, missus Maddel and Lipscomb, who
- 22:48Speaker 7: kept her radio glued to this station, listened to all
- 22:51Speaker 7: the shows here but especially yours day, that she unexpectedly
- 22:55Speaker 7: passed away last week. And this is a you know,
- 22:57Speaker 7: it's a tough time for her family. Of course, it's
- 22:59Speaker 7: you know, it's the holidays, and a lot of us
- 23:01Speaker 7: know what it feels like to lose a loved one
- 23:03Speaker 7: during the holidays. So I just want to dedicate this
- 23:05Speaker 7: to the memory of Madeline and her family if they're listening,
- 23:09Speaker 7: So your love, do you reach out to somebody if
- 23:11Speaker 7: you need to talk. But you know, oftentimes we lose
- 23:15Speaker 7: a loved one during the holidays, it can be rough.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Okay, Oh yeah, I appreciate that. And the thoughts of
- 23:20Speaker 4: prayers go out to her family. Yeah, it's battling.
- 23:22Speaker 18: Lipscomb had.
- 24:38Speaker 13: Unity.
- 24:42Speaker 19: Think the.
- 24:52Speaker 13: Money God, mister marry gentlemen have nothing nes me. Remember
- 25:25Speaker 13: Christ started seeing you was born on Christmas.
- 25:29Speaker 20: Dave to save us, solve the saves power when we
- 25:33Speaker 20: will know straight hidings of com and joy, comfort and joy.
- 25:42Speaker 13: Tie, hidings of come over and.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Think, could you guys apply over there a little bit
- 25:57Speaker 4: so we have a little bit noise over here.
- 26:00Speaker 11: Sorry about that?
- 26:01Speaker 4: Was fantastic, fantastic Lesia. I gotta ask you. I mean,
- 26:05Speaker 4: you are a phenomenal musician. I mean I've seen you
- 26:08Speaker 4: play many many times in the past. You're a fantastic musician.
- 26:11Speaker 4: What point in your life did you start playing?
- 26:14Speaker 9: I actually started in grade school. The West Virginia Symphony
- 26:17Speaker 9: did a big project where they went into the elementary
- 26:19Speaker 9: schools trying to get more string players, especially in the
- 26:22Speaker 9: Appalachian regions, and it worked for me. I actually wanted
- 26:26Speaker 9: to play cello, but it was too heavy to carry
- 26:28Speaker 9: home every day.
- 26:29Speaker 4: What was it though, I mean, you said you wanted
- 26:31Speaker 4: to play cello, but what was it about the stringed instruments?
- 26:34Speaker 4: I guess I don't know.
- 26:36Speaker 9: I was watching a string quartet play. I was nine
- 26:38Speaker 9: years old, and I just felt like this feeling in
- 26:41Speaker 9: my body like I have to do that, Like I
- 26:44Speaker 9: just I can't even explain it to this day. It
- 26:46Speaker 9: just felt like, Oh, here's the universe telling you what
- 26:49Speaker 9: you're going to do.
- 26:50Speaker 8: With your life.
- 26:50Speaker 13: There you go.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Are our kids? We hear so much about kids not
- 26:56Speaker 4: getting involved in things. And it's not just the arts.
- 26:58Speaker 4: I mean, we don't even numbers are down across the board.
- 27:01Speaker 4: But and you mentioned that you're that you're a mommy
- 27:03Speaker 4: your kids interested in music.
- 27:05Speaker 9: Well, I've made her Yeah, and she plays viola because
- 27:10Speaker 9: she doesn't want to be a violinist.
- 27:12Speaker 11: Like her mom.
- 27:13Speaker 9: She wants to be dumb.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Question, what's the difference?
- 27:15Speaker 9: Viola is like a bigger violin, but it's tuned like
- 27:17Speaker 9: a cello, so it has a C string instead of
- 27:19Speaker 9: a high E string.
- 27:21Speaker 4: But I mean, are you involved in things? And Mike
- 27:23Speaker 4: kewayness as well to try to get young people in general,
- 27:26Speaker 4: whether you're a kid or not involved in stuff?
- 27:28Speaker 8: Oh my gosh.
- 27:28Speaker 9: Yeah, and even children seeing me out perform. Because I
- 27:31Speaker 9: perform everywhere in town in different settings, I will often
- 27:35Speaker 9: get calls being like my kid wants to learn the violin,
- 27:38Speaker 9: can you show them? They sell you playing. That's actually
- 27:41Speaker 9: how I attract so many private students, and I can't
- 27:44Speaker 9: even take them all because I have a day job.
- 27:46Speaker 7: Yeah, I say, we learned the difference between a viola
- 27:49Speaker 7: and a violin, but you know the difference between a fiddle.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Uh, it's geographic where you're from.
- 27:55Speaker 11: So you can spill beer on a fiddle. I got it.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Plays violin play by so much, but you also play
- 28:03Speaker 4: I mean, you know again, I am a non musician.
- 28:07Speaker 4: I play music on the radio and half for thirty
- 28:09Speaker 4: six years. I'm a non musician. Okay, but I know
- 28:11Speaker 4: what I like, and there's certain instants that I like,
- 28:13Speaker 4: and it seemed to me that at one point of
- 28:15Speaker 4: violin in that particular song suddenly became a fiddle. Is
- 28:18Speaker 4: that Is that possible?
- 28:19Speaker 21: It is.
- 28:20Speaker 9: It's just called a genre. So there's there's a musical
- 28:23Speaker 9: scale for every style.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Okay, I believe I've got Brian will send you across
- 28:27Speaker 4: the hall over there. Just pump Brian hughes mineorologists Brian
- 28:31Speaker 4: Hughesman storm tracker thirteen to just push Tony out of
- 28:33Speaker 4: the way. That's fine.
- 28:36Speaker 12: Job.
- 28:36Speaker 4: I don't think it's Mike is I don't think his
- 28:38Speaker 4: Mike's on hell is there? It is test Okay, all right, Brian,
- 28:44Speaker 4: all right.
- 28:44Speaker 22: So I just I just got down with Steve Animal.
- 28:47Speaker 18: What do you explain?
- 28:47Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, a mineorologist Brian Hughes, who, by the way,
- 28:50Speaker 4: is going to be on the show on Thursday, because
- 28:53Speaker 4: we're gonna do like a little winter weather preview. We
- 28:56Speaker 4: got we got a rainy Christmas here, Brian. I know
- 28:59Speaker 4: I'm not going to have you specifically talk about the
- 29:01Speaker 4: weather the whole time, but we got rain here, but
- 29:03Speaker 4: north of here it's creating some travel issues from what
- 29:05Speaker 4: I understand.
- 29:06Speaker 22: Listen, there's there's been issues up in the mountains with
- 29:09Speaker 22: a little bit of snow. But for us, listen, it sprinkles,
- 29:11Speaker 22: it's chilled. But clouds today for Santa. Santa comes by
- 29:15Speaker 22: like eleven thirtyty five ish, So clouds are sanding at tomorrow,
- 29:19Speaker 22: clouds all day, and yeah it's dreary.
- 29:22Speaker 11: It's fine.
- 29:22Speaker 22: Actually, I prefer Christmas to be cloudy rather than sunny.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Okay, now why is that?
- 29:27Speaker 22: I don't know, It's just because you know, who needs
- 29:30Speaker 22: the sunshine on Christmas?
- 29:31Speaker 4: That's a good point.
- 29:32Speaker 22: We've been watching Netflix.
- 29:35Speaker 4: You're gonna watch the NFL tomorrow. It is going to
- 29:37Speaker 4: be on Netflix. You're gonna have to get an in
- 29:38Speaker 4: flat net.
- 29:39Speaker 22: Watching this whole thing about Netflix, and they did not
- 29:43Speaker 22: do a full tilt test. They've been testing quietly. But
- 29:47Speaker 22: Amazon and NBC offered up their servers for the games,
- 29:52Speaker 22: and they turned them down and said, no, we think
- 29:54Speaker 22: we got this.
- 29:55Speaker 11: Okay, the Paul twice and Flight indicated that they maybe
- 29:59Speaker 11: are ready. So it's gonna be interesting to see what
- 30:01Speaker 11: happens because there's a lot of streaming issues with US.
- 30:03Speaker 22: It's gonna be well. They have asked comcasts, Verizon, you
- 30:07Speaker 22: know the Exfinity stuff, Charter, They've asked for extra bandwidth
- 30:11Speaker 22: for that day and they are going to allocate extra bandwidth.
- 30:13Speaker 22: But like sixty percent of the traffic on Christmas, they're
- 30:16Speaker 22: expecting to be sixty to sixty five percent is going
- 30:19Speaker 22: to be NFL on Netflix.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Okay, Uh, talk about Christmas growing up for you? You're
- 30:22Speaker 4: a Texas guy, right, yeah, all right, what was Christmas
- 30:25Speaker 4: like for you?
- 30:26Speaker 9: Well?
- 30:29Speaker 22: I didn't talk about this on TV this morning.
- 30:31Speaker 4: I didn't know this was going to become a therapy
- 30:32Speaker 4: session for all over.
- 30:35Speaker 22: I will tell you it was my my family, especially
- 30:38Speaker 22: my mother's side, horrible people.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Okay, colectively very good, very good.
- 30:43Speaker 22: So my uh, my mother and my aunt where they're
- 30:46Speaker 22: at Christmas, life goes great. My grandmother's great cook, grandfather awesome,
- 30:51Speaker 22: and they start arguing and fighting back and forth.
- 30:54Speaker 11: Nice.
- 30:54Speaker 22: And then next tea, I pray pretty close. I believe
- 30:58Speaker 22: me this side of the family, they're not the other
- 31:00Speaker 22: side awesome. But all of a sudden they start arguing
- 31:03Speaker 22: back and forth. And we're there at the dinner table.
- 31:06Speaker 22: It's lunchtime. You know, it's twelve one o'clock. They're arguing,
- 31:09Speaker 22: backing for next to you know, my mother picks up
- 31:12Speaker 22: a cookie and throws it at my aunt. My ant
- 31:15Speaker 22: picks up green beans and throws them back, and the
- 31:17Speaker 22: next you know, they're starting to throw food back and
- 31:19Speaker 22: forth across the table. This is a beautiful dining room,
