- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:41Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of the
- 0:44Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:48that utilizes in a child work. And I was working with a client
- 0:52that had the aftermath of quite a serious eating disorder and
- 0:59levels of mistrust with themself that they would be able to deal
- 1:07with things like binges. But quite often the binges would
- 1:10follow feelings of overwhelm. And one of the key triggers of
- 1:15overwhelm was feeling that they had a responsibility to change
- 1:23how the people around them were feeling.
- 1:26Now, that's a very difficult thing to do.
- 1:30You can influence how people feel, but you can't make people
- 1:33feel a certain way. And yet what was interesting is
- 1:37that when they were a child, they really did help a sibling
- 1:43to change how they felt. But not by taking on the
- 1:46responsibility, just by accepting who they were, having
- 1:51a loving intention and being present with them.
- 1:56And that really worked in their childhood, but they weren't
- 1:59utilizing that same strategy as an adult.
- 2:03And that's why the inner child work here is quite useful for
- 2:06two reasons. There was a time that they dealt
- 2:10with a very similar triggering event but weren't triggered by
- 2:14it. In fact, they felt empowered by
- 2:17it. And secondly, they weren't
- 2:19overthinking it. In the present they were, but in
- 2:22the past they were much more intuitive.
- 2:25And that intuitive approach, which is based on trust, was
- 2:29more helpful. So the fact that this client was
- 2:33dealing with the aftermath of an eating disorder, I think is
- 2:37almost immaterial to what this session is all about.
- 2:39And what it's really about is harnessing certain strategies
- 2:46from the past and also just the idea of love and acceptance as a
- 2:53way to preempt and prevent feelings of overwhelm.
- 2:59And if overwhelm is a key trigger for a coping strategy,
- 3:03whatever that coping strategy is, and you don't feel the
- 3:06overwhelm, well then you don't need the coping strategy.
- 3:10So there's a bit going on here in order for you to benefit from
- 3:13this session. I would encourage you to think
- 3:15of something from your past that was working for you then that
- 3:23might be helpful for you now. And maybe there was less anxiety
- 3:29when you were a child. Maybe you felt very confident in
- 3:35social situations as a child. Maybe you felt more playful.
- 3:39But these resources from your childhood may be actually very
- 3:43helpful for you now. And just by thinking about that
- 3:46in advance, you'll get more from this session.
- 3:49Because this session is quite specific about the
- 3:53responsibility of feeling somehow responsible for the
- 3:59emotions for the people. But the actual modality of inner
- 4:04child work is much broader than that.
- 4:06So to make it relevant for you, think of what might be helpful
- 4:10for you now that you certainly had as a resource, as a
- 4:12strategy, just as a way of being as a child that might be helpful
- 4:16for you. Now.
- 4:17Obviously it was created for an individual.
- 4:19So if you do like the idea of a bespoke individual session just
- 4:23for you, that's certainly where most of my clients come from is
- 4:29this desire to have something bespoke for them.
- 4:32And where that normally starts is you would book a free
- 4:36consultation call on Zoom, we'd have a chat and you'd be able to
- 4:40get a sense pretty quickly if you think I'd be able to help
- 4:43you for your specific situation. And then we can discuss how
- 4:47things go from there. But in the initial instance,
- 4:50it's just a free conversation to explore whether or not I would
- 4:54be a good hypnotherapist for you.
- 4:56For now though, for this hypnotherapy session, the best
- 4:58thing to do would be to find a quiet, comfortable place where
- 5:01you won't be disturbed to relax and enjoy the session.
- 5:45Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, just imagine
- 5:55breathing in a feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 6:02And as you exhale just allow your eyelids to close.
- 6:11And as they close, notice a feeling of tension releasing
- 6:20from your eyelids as you give yourself permission to just
- 6:29relax, to let go of any feeling of needing to do anything in
- 6:40this space here and now, there is nothing you need to do other
- 6:49than listen to the sound of my voice.
- 6:57When you breathe in. Just breathe in a feeling of
- 6:59calm and relaxation. And as you exhale, feel a
- 7:08wonderful feeling of release, releasing any tension, any
- 7:19stress and any worries. Breathing in, relaxation,
- 7:28exhaling tension. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 7:34more relaxed you become. And the more relaxed you become,
- 7:41the deeper you breathe. But you don't need to force
- 7:47yourself to breathe, just allow it to happen.
- 7:54And maybe you start by breathing from the chest, but notice that
- 8:00when you just focus your attention lower there on the
- 8:04abdomen, the tiny muscles around your diaphragm start to relax.
- 8:13And don't be surprised if you breathe lower down, breathing in
- 8:23deeper, exhaling for longer. That's right.
- 8:30I don't want you to think of a place from your childhood that
- 8:40was a safe, relaxing place, maybe a garden or a park or a
- 8:48place you used to play. And I want you to think back to
- 8:55that moment and imagine what it would feel like to be back in
- 9:01that happy, relaxed place. Maybe you can remember things
- 9:08that you've forgotten, the size or shape of a tree, certain
- 9:18objects or things that you haven't thought about for a
- 9:22while. And if you can remember a place
- 9:26like that, a place that you used to feel calm and relaxed, a
- 9:33place used to go to, to just think, just let me know about
- 9:38nodding your head. And imagine being in that place
- 9:45now, breathing in the air from back then, not being that age,
- 9:54being yourself back at that time.
- 10:00I wonder if you could see a younger version of you at the
- 10:05age you were back then. Maybe you can see a version of
- 10:15you that was a thinker, introspective, but someone that
- 10:24cared deeply, that always wanted to help.
- 10:33As you imagine being back in that place, with all the
- 10:37knowledge and wisdom that you have now, but back in that
- 10:42moment, I want you to notice how relaxed you're becoming.
- 10:50Breathing and relaxation, exhaling tension.
- 10:56Feel a wonderful sense of calm, the sense of serenity and
- 11:03perspective, and allow yourself to be an invisible observer of
- 11:09the past. I want you to see a moment.
- 11:18A moment where someone you loved and cared about was in an
- 11:24emotional state that was causing issues for them or issues for
- 11:30others. And when you know that moment,
- 11:40allow yourself to observe as this invisible observer to that
- 11:45younger version of you that intuitively knew exactly how to
- 11:51help. I want you to watch that memory
- 11:59as an observer, not reliving anything, just watching.
- 12:05And I want to see that younger version of you using love and
- 12:17acceptance as the very foundation of helping.
- 12:27That version of you didn't need permission to match someone
- 12:33else's mood. In fact, that would have made
- 12:37things worse back then. You gave yourself permission to
- 12:43be exactly who you are at your very core, the essence of you to
- 12:56be loving and accepting. And if you can see that younger
- 13:04version of you that did indeed help someone too radically
- 13:12change their emotional state, using love and acceptance as the
- 13:19primary way of doing that, just let me know by nodding your
- 13:22head. I want you to get a sense then.
- 13:31Sometimes we don't need to learn anything new, we just need to be
- 13:36reminded of what we already know.
- 13:43I want you to get a sense that if it worked back then, wouldn't
- 13:49it work now? That if someone is upset or
- 13:55angry or frustrated, you could accept their state without it
- 14:03needing to become your state. To hold the belief that all
- 14:11emotions are temporary. You've never met a single person
- 14:16locked in a single emotional state forever.
- 14:21Therefore all emotions change. So if someone is angry or
- 14:29annoyed, Moody or sad, that too will be temporary.
- 14:39If someone is feeling overwhelmed, that overwhelm
- 14:46won't last forever. It's like a wave.
- 14:51Some waves are big and some waves are small, but all waves
- 14:58are temporary. I want you to imagine looking at
- 15:05that child version of you a time where they weren't rules.
- 15:16I want you to see that that version of you built those rules
- 15:21for herself. And sometimes too many rules can
- 15:28be like a cage, and everyone wants to break free of a cage
- 15:34every now and then. But what if these shoulds and
- 15:40musts become coulds and maybes? If the rules become intentions,
- 15:54I want you to get a sense that what if that makes you feel more
- 15:59free? And what if that freedom helps
- 16:04you feel more in control of your choices?
- 16:14I want you to get a sense that sometimes rules can be helpful,
- 16:20but sometimes rules can be restrictive.
- 16:25They feel like handcuffs and chains.
- 16:32To deprive you of what you are, your essence.
- 16:39To be intuitive as you imagine seeing that younger version of
- 16:45you do so many things intuitively.
- 16:52To find the right tone of voice. Intuitively, to know what kind
- 16:59of play would be stimulating. Intuitively, you weren't
- 17:06following rules and shoulds and regulations and restrictions.
- 17:16That when you allow yourself to trust your intuition, more often
- 17:25than not it gets things not just right, but after more.
- 17:34That when you trust your intuition, you do things just
- 17:41about as well as they could be possibly done.
- 17:43And if a new belief is forming, then a new future is possible.
- 17:56A future where you allow yourself to be more of you and
- 18:01less of what you should be, if you allow a future version of
- 18:09you to be everything that you could be.
- 18:16If that feels like a future where you have less stress and
- 18:23less overwhelm and more balance, just let me know by nodding your
- 18:30head. What if the teacher here is not
- 18:41the adult teaching the child, but the child teaching the
- 18:46adult? Just imagine that that younger
- 18:52version of you has done all the helping.
- 18:56She's now on her own. Just imagine turning yourself
- 19:02from invisible to visible and explain to that younger version
- 19:08of you that you are them from the future.
- 19:15And I want you to prove that to them by telling them a secret
- 19:20that only they know. And once you've convinced that
- 19:25younger version of you that you are them from their future, let
- 19:30me know by nodding your head. That's right, I want you to find
- 19:41a private place where you can tell that younger version of you
- 19:45that they are loved, they are accepted, they are good at their
- 19:55very core. But you're wiser now than you've
- 20:02ever been, and I want you to share some wisdom.
- 20:07With that younger version of you, something you wish you knew
- 20:13all the way back then, something that would have helped you to
- 20:20avoid the extremes and to find that perfect black balance
- 20:26between discipline and balance, a perfect balance between
- 20:36acceptance and control. And once you've shared that
- 20:40wisdom with them, I want you to give that child version of you a
- 20:46valuable resource, a quality, an emotional feeling that you wish
- 20:53you would have had all the way back then.
- 20:57Maybe confidence, maybe trust, maybe acceptance.
- 21:07Give that resource like a glowing ball of energy to that
- 21:10younger version of you that you wish you would have had back
- 21:14then. And when they've accepted it and
- 21:19see them, pull that glowing energy to their chest and absorb
- 21:23that quality. And when they've done that, let
- 21:26me know by nodding your head and feel that resource rippling
- 21:31through time all the way from back then to right now.
- 21:39But I want you to see that that young version of you has
- 21:42something you had in abundance then and you need right now.
- 21:52And maybe it's acceptance. Maybe it's the ability to trust,
- 22:00or maybe to really lean into your intuition, or maybe
- 22:08something else. You know what you had in
- 22:12abundance back then that you could benefit from right now and
- 22:17allow that child version of you to give you a glowing ball of
- 22:21energy, but a different colour, Something you need right now.
- 22:28And you don't have to label it or name it.
- 22:30Just know that it will help and feel the sensation of that
- 22:35younger version of you placing that glowing ball of energy on
- 22:41your chest near your heart and you're absorbing it.
- 22:45Feel your cells update with this new resource, the resource that
- 22:52will help you in whichever ways you need helping most.
- 22:58And when you feel you've absorbed that quality that you
- 23:03had in the past and need now, let me know by nodding your head
- 23:10and then give that younger version of you a hug.
- 23:15Tell her she is the most important person in the world
- 23:23and that she has permission to be true to herself.
- 23:30And then say goodbye, knowing that you can revisit this
- 23:35younger version of you whenever you desire.
- 23:41But I want you to feel all these changes start to ripple through
- 23:45time, to the here and the now, and start to think of your
- 23:50future. I want you to think of something
- 23:54specific that in the past would have triggered you, but see
- 23:59yourself like you're someone else and the same thing that
- 24:03triggered you before now doesn't.
- 24:08See yourself with more options, more choices.
- 24:15See yourself with the ability to not take on someone else's
- 24:23energy like it's your own. See yourself as not having to
- 24:31hold someone else's burden, not needing to fix someone else.
- 24:39That your responsibility is to be true to yourself and that is
- 24:47where you are at your most influential and what you can see
- 24:55in that future version of you dealing with the future event in
- 25:01a new way because of what's happened.
- 25:03Let me know by nodding your head and then step into that future
- 25:09version of you feeling how it would feel.
- 25:14That thing that triggered you in the past now makes you feel
- 25:17different. That even if you feel bored or
- 25:21overwhelmed, even if you see someone upset or annoyed, you
- 25:29feel different and therefore you have different choices.
- 25:35And when you feel this future, like you have all of those
- 25:38resources here in the present, let me know about nodding your
- 25:42head. It's time to leave this place,
- 25:48this place from your past all the way back to the here and the
- 25:52now taking these changes and these feelings with you.
- 25:59So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 26:04nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 26:08your toes. Start to connect and calibrate
- 26:10into the here and the now. As I now count from 1:00 to
- 26:1510:00 to awaken you. You will awaken with a new sense
- 26:18of resourcefulness, perspective, and acceptance.
- 26:25Starting to count. 123 Waking up 456 More alert 7-8 Open your
