- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:59Speaker 1: Are you sure?
- 1:00Speaker 2: No?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Do you remember what happened in part one? Let's start
- 1:04Speaker 1: with that.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I do for the most part.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I would say you do for the most part.
- 1:10Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean it was a fucked up story
- 1:12Speaker 2: to remember.
- 1:13Speaker 1: That, touche you can. You may also remember that it
- 1:16Speaker 1: was requested over on Patreon. We did a little poll
- 1:20Speaker 1: for the last couple episodes on Hey, let's get some
- 1:22Speaker 1: case recommendations, some suggestions, and this one was brought up
- 1:25Speaker 1: in that list. And speaking of Patreon, we have some
- 1:28Speaker 1: new patrons to thank who signed up and they have
- 1:30Speaker 1: the opportunity to go recommend cases as well over there,
- 1:33Speaker 1: So shout out to Erica Bone, Minnie Hatanan, Vicky Elder,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Megan Warren and they got to scroll up. Is that
- 1:41Speaker 1: the remainder of the list. Yes, Megan, you were the
- 1:43Speaker 1: last one to sign up this week, so thank you
- 1:45Speaker 1: very much. Shout out to you guys for showing that
- 1:48Speaker 1: support over on page.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Sorry, real quick if you're interested, links down below in
- 1:54Speaker 1: the description so you can sign up too.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I was just going to say they're doing our dirty work, hey,
- 1:58Speaker 2: but I mean it's a win win. They're recommend in
- 2:00Speaker 2: cases they want us to hear, and then when we
- 2:02Speaker 2: need a case without having time to, like, you know,
- 2:06Speaker 2: scroll the.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Interwebs, go search for one.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah, just go to that list.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So it is a win win, And honestly, there's some
- 2:12Speaker 1: some wild cases that have been suggested, so I might
- 2:14Speaker 1: be feeding off that list for a little while here
- 2:16Speaker 1: to come. But there are also ones I'm wanting to
- 2:19Speaker 1: cover here on my own little lists that are on
- 2:20Speaker 1: the back burner. So we'll see. We'll be going back
- 2:23Speaker 1: and forth here. Definitely be covering a lot.
- 2:25Speaker 2: You know, I actually have a giant list of cases
- 2:28Speaker 2: I want to cover.
- 2:29Speaker 1: You're supposed to be covering one this month, which means
- 2:31Speaker 1: you you're supposed to be doing next episode technical speak, We're.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Going to have to just see. Okay, if I don't
- 2:38Speaker 2: like I will make it up to y'all at some point.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Just bear with me.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So that means December, Nicole.
- 2:44Speaker 2: It's on my list for this year, but I also
- 2:47Speaker 2: have a million and one photos to enter.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Here's the deal if you do not do one for November,
- 2:53Speaker 1: which you're basically telling us right now you're not doing.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I said, there's I said, basically, I won't be.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I said, basically, hold on. So here's the deal.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I don't know if I want to make a deal
- 3:02Speaker 2: with you, I give me.
- 3:05Speaker 1: A mo I'm gonna speak for all of you guys
- 3:06Speaker 1: out there right now. I'm assuming you're on the same
- 3:09Speaker 1: page as me wanting to call to cover one. So
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'm going to speak for all of us when I
- 3:12Speaker 1: make this deal. You do such a good job, though, Okay,
- 3:15Speaker 1: can you stop interrupting me please, because you're not digging
- 3:18Speaker 1: yourself out of this fucking hole. I'm going to represent
- 3:22Speaker 1: everyone and making this bargain here. You will get off
- 3:25Speaker 1: the hook for doing a November case as long as
- 3:32Speaker 1: you do a Christmas case for whatever day falls closest
- 3:38Speaker 1: to Christmas. It's got to be a Christmas story. It's
- 3:40Speaker 1: got to be a good deep dive and it's got
- 3:43Speaker 1: to be close to Christmas that you come up with
- 3:45Speaker 1: that episode, the closest one, whatever date it falls on. Okay,
- 3:49Speaker 1: how's that for a deal?
- 3:50Speaker 2: So what does that mean that I need to do
- 3:52Speaker 2: two in December then? Because I got to do one
- 3:56Speaker 2: at some point in December and a Christmas e one?
- 3:58Speaker 1: No, this is it. Oh, it's got to be a
- 4:00Speaker 1: Christmas one. You are going to be the Christmas episode,
- 4:03Speaker 1: is what I'm saying.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Well, going forward, I do definitely want to do one
- 4:07Speaker 2: a month. That is like my goal for twenty twenty five,
- 4:10Speaker 2: and it's like a pretty small goal. I should be
- 4:12Speaker 2: able to.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Do this fair enough, fair enough, So okay, looking at
- 4:15Speaker 1: the calendar, that means you have to come out with
- 4:16Speaker 1: an episode on the twenty fourth Christmas Eve.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Okay, I see what you're saying there. Okay, sure, yeah,
- 4:23Speaker 2: I love Christmas. I mean that's kind of a bummer though.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, but the story's got to be Christmas themed, so
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's got to be.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I have gotten some of those before, like John Benet Ramsey.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure was it just like was around Christmas
- 4:36Speaker 2: that it happened, and there's been another one.
- 4:38Speaker 1: As long as you do that again, and it comes
- 4:40Speaker 1: out on Christmas Eve.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Okay, I have to figure out one then that's Christmas Eve. Yeah, sure,
- 4:44Speaker 2: I'll take that deal. That's not too bad. I was
- 4:46Speaker 2: like thinking I was going to be making a deal
- 4:48Speaker 2: with the devil there.
- 4:48Speaker 1: So no, it's just there we go. That's the deal.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And you do not get off the hook on this one. Okay.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Oh no, there's no way I can again.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Shake on it. Shake on it right now. Okay, we
- 4:58Speaker 1: need like sound effects. Okay, hold on, we got to
- 5:00Speaker 1: get him up to Mike or something. Let's hold on.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Here we go, there we go. Deal deal. Okay, we
- 5:08Speaker 1: shook on it and drinking on it too.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Oh gosh, here cheers with my glass of water. There
- 5:14Speaker 2: you go.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Okay, we've been rambling here. Let's get on to this.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So in the last episode we discussed the sex and
- 5:21Speaker 1: Family cult. Eddie Sexton was the father of the family,
- 5:24Speaker 1: of course, and to sum it up, we don't like Eddie.
- 5:27Speaker 1: He's a deuce canoe. He is a mean individual. He
- 5:31Speaker 1: abuses his family both mentally and physically. He controls everyone
- 5:35Speaker 1: and there every move. His family lives in constant fear
- 5:38Speaker 1: of him. And when we left off, we're just kind
- 5:40Speaker 1: of touching on the sexual abuse both that he and
- 5:44Speaker 1: his wife put the children through. Now, his wife May
- 5:47Speaker 1: was often helping him commit these acts, though as far
- 5:50Speaker 1: as we areware, she never committed them herself. It's been
- 5:53Speaker 1: years of marriage to a monster at this point, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: it seems that the relationship to this monster finally turned
- 5:59Speaker 1: her kind soul over to his rotten side. Yes, that's
- 6:04Speaker 1: kind of where we left off.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yes, I do remember all that.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah. So, now, the oldest daughter of Eddie and May
- 6:11Speaker 1: was actually named after her mother, because her first name
- 6:15Speaker 1: was actually Estella May. She just goes by May, so
- 6:17Speaker 1: she was actually named after May, though everyone just called
- 6:20Speaker 1: her Pixie. Now, Pixie was definitely Eddie's favorite child, and
- 6:25Speaker 1: because of the favoritism, he treated her a little bit differently,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and of course because of that, she was more loyal
- 6:31Speaker 1: to him as well, and she'd often tell on the
- 6:35Speaker 1: other children if they did anything wrong. So she would
- 6:37Speaker 1: often kind of go running to him and be that
- 6:39Speaker 1: tattletale type.
- 6:40Speaker 2: You know, well, I remember too you saying about them
- 6:42Speaker 2: in school. Yeah, they were given money to phone, right exactly.
- 6:46Speaker 1: We're all lined up in the morning, given a quarter each,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and you make a phone call if you see something.
- 6:52Speaker 1: But yeah, Pixie was kind of playing the part of
- 6:53Speaker 1: Eddie's informant, at least more than the other children were.
- 6:58Speaker 1: She was kind of like the eyes and ears when
- 7:00Speaker 1: he wasn't around. But by the time Pixie was seventeen,
- 7:02Speaker 1: she and her father were sleeping together on a regular basis.
- 7:07Speaker 1: But for Pixie it wasn't abuse. See, Pixie was in
- 7:11Speaker 1: love with her father. Now, obviously there is abuse taking place,
- 7:16Speaker 1: and she was obviously manipulated into this incestual relationship. So
- 7:21Speaker 1: she more so thought she was in love with him,
- 7:25Speaker 1: but more than likely there was a serious case of
- 7:27Speaker 1: Stockholm syndrome gripping her and making her really believe it.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Okay, so my head didn't go to where I guess
- 7:33Speaker 2: it was supposed to. I just thought they were just
- 7:35Speaker 2: like sleeping in the same bed kind of like, No,
- 7:38Speaker 2: they were they thought, oh, yeah, that is that's not good.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Okay, No, because last last episode we kind of left
- 7:46Speaker 1: off with that sexual abuse kind of picking up there
- 7:48Speaker 1: a bit still, dang, Okay, Now the family is messed
- 7:53Speaker 1: up as their lives were did experience some moments of joy,
- 7:57Speaker 1: though occasionally, for example, the family would cut loose in
- 8:00Speaker 1: the evenings and the family would have a little bit
- 8:03Speaker 1: of a family dance night in the living room. Yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 1: a good old fashioned so cop just just happened in
- 8:08Speaker 1: the house.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I do like that. That's like real cool.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It is.
- 8:12Speaker 2: That is about the only cool thing I feel like
- 8:14Speaker 2: I've heard in the story.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So it is. However, during one of these evenings, when
- 8:19Speaker 1: everyone was feeling good, Eddie took the opportunity to make
- 8:22Speaker 1: an announcement to the family. Eddie was going to marry
- 8:26Speaker 1: his oldest daughter, Pixie.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Holy shit, Yeah, he.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Kind of fucked the mood that evening, and everyone was
- 8:33Speaker 1: shocked as Pixie then suddenly emerged from another room wearing
- 8:37Speaker 1: a wedding veil.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Oh, like it was happening that night.
- 8:40Speaker 1: It was happening right then and there.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Oh man, that's not good.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, right in front of his family, right in front
- 8:47Speaker 1: of his very confused wife.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Okay, she wasn't a part of this as far as
- 8:51Speaker 2: you know, Like it wasn't like it was just like
- 8:54Speaker 2: surprise to her.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Too, I think so. Yes, Eddie right in front of
- 8:57Speaker 1: them all, performed a mock wedding ceremony and Mary, his
- 9:00Speaker 1: daughter right there in the living room. Though, I don't
- 9:02Speaker 1: think it was like a legal wedding, legally binding, but hey,
- 9:05Speaker 1: to them, it was all the same. Now, this reportedly
- 9:08Speaker 1: wasn't the only time he would go on to do this,
- 9:10Speaker 1: as he would apparently marry a few of his other
- 9:13Speaker 1: daughters as well. But not long after the first ceremony
- 9:16Speaker 1: with Pixie, it was revealed that she was now pregnant. Okay, yeah,
- 9:23Speaker 1: this was during her junior year of high school, which
- 9:26Speaker 1: would put around the age of sixteen seventeen, No.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Shit, so she wasn't even done at school correct Now.
- 9:33Speaker 1: If you recall, Eddie had absolute control over his family, right,
- 9:36Speaker 1: Pixie wasn't allowed to date, wasn't allowed to speak to boys,
- 9:39Speaker 1: or even leave the house on supervised So her pregnancy
- 9:42Speaker 1: shocked classmates quite a bit, who were aware of the
- 9:45Speaker 1: strict control of this family dynamic that was going on. So,
- 9:49Speaker 1: needless to say, there was a lot of questions. So
- 9:53Speaker 1: to battle the incoming questions that everyone had, Eddie concocted
- 9:57Speaker 1: a bit of a story claiming that the baby's father
- 10:00Speaker 1: was a military man who had briefly been in town
- 10:02Speaker 1: and then you know, left again. While it was something
- 10:05Speaker 1: the public could buy, the sext and children themselves and
- 10:08Speaker 1: the family. Within the walls of the home, they knew
- 10:10Speaker 1: the truth. Eddie was the father.
- 10:13Speaker 2: That is just so mind blowing.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Mm hmmm. So, in nineteen eighty nine, Pixie gave birth
- 10:21Speaker 1: to a baby girl that she named Dawn, and the
- 10:24Speaker 1: following year, during her senior high school year, Pixie became
- 10:28Speaker 1: pregnant once again.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And you said nineteen eighty nine, correct, Okay, that is
- 10:34Speaker 2: quite a while ago. But I feel like it's not
- 10:36Speaker 2: quite a while ago because I was like one years old.
- 10:38Speaker 2: One year old.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that's nearly forty years ago, babe.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but still I feel like.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I feel like he was shocked for a moment there.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I feel like that's not that long ago, but I
- 10:47Speaker 2: guess it is.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah, we're talking, we're encroaching on half a century.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but still, I feel like nineteen hundred or something like.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I feel like this should be happening in like nineteen fifty,
- 11:01Speaker 2: nineteen sixty, Okay, not the nineties.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Well technically it's the eighties.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Well yeah, technically, okay.
- 11:11Speaker 1: But during this time with the second pregnancy, Eddie just
- 11:13Speaker 1: reused the same excuse about a brief encounter with a
- 11:15Speaker 1: military man, and Pixie gave birth to his second daughter,
- 11:19Speaker 1: named Shasta. Now the next part may be rough for
- 11:23Speaker 1: some to hear, so trigger warning regarding babies. You might
- 11:26Speaker 1: want to skip ahead a minute or two to avoid this. So,
- 11:30Speaker 1: as I mentioned with the weddings, Pixie wasn't the only one,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and so it was too with pregnancies. Sherry, one of
- 11:38Speaker 1: the daughters, would also become pregnant at the age of
- 11:40Speaker 1: eighteen as well. This time, though Eddie panicked a bit,
- 11:43Speaker 1: Pixie already had two kids with him, so another pregnancy
- 11:46Speaker 1: risked exposing his secrets. Suspicions were growing in the community
- 11:50Speaker 1: about how Pixie became pregnant and had these two children,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and now Sherry's pregnancy would draw even more serious scrutiny.
- 11:57Speaker 1: So to avoid all the hassle, Eddie ordered his James
- 12:00Speaker 1: to kick Sherry in the stomach, and James did as
- 12:04Speaker 1: he was told, and Sherry lost the baby the next day.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Holy shit, Maybe he just shouldn't have sex with his
- 12:10Speaker 2: fucking children.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Also, because so much can go wrong with.
- 12:16Speaker 1: That too, you betcha, But no he yeah, I'm not
- 12:21Speaker 1: going to continue talking about that. It's a rough talk.
- 12:23Speaker 2: That's terrible.
- 12:24Speaker 1: But yeah, Sherry would become pregnant again shortly after, and
- 12:28Speaker 1: for unknown reasons, Eddie decided to allow her to keep
- 12:31Speaker 1: this one, and she would go on to birth a
- 12:32Speaker 1: baby boy she named Christopher.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, this is just such bullshit listening to
- 12:38Speaker 2: this right now, you good, I don't know, I'm pretty
- 12:41Speaker 2: like pissed off right.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Now, understandable. That's a fucked up thing to do that.
- 12:44Speaker 2: All of this is just so fucked Yeah.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Well, and we're we're just getting rolling in this here,
- 12:50Speaker 1: so right on, we're on part two and we're like
- 12:54Speaker 1: just getting rolling, so trust me. Yeah. So all three
- 12:58Speaker 1: of these kids that Eddie had birth with his own
- 13:01Speaker 1: children down, Shasta and Christopher lived under the same roof
- 13:04Speaker 1: as the rest of the Sexton family. Now, Eddie's paranoia
- 13:08Speaker 1: about the law enforcement began to grow, because he was
- 13:10Speaker 1: already kind of a paranoid to people starting to catch on,
- 13:13Speaker 1: and he became convinced that the authorities were closing in
- 13:16Speaker 1: on him for all of his actions thus far with
- 13:18Speaker 1: his family. So, as any solid minded individual does when
- 13:23Speaker 1: fearing facing repercussions for their actions in the eyes of
- 13:26Speaker 1: the law, he began stockpiling firearms and preparing for what
- 13:30Speaker 1: he believed would be an inevitable war against the police.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know why, but I not go there.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Well that's probably because of the lead up I had
- 13:39Speaker 1: for that being you know, any sound minded individual, Yeah,
- 13:43Speaker 1: he was not so clearly he's a little out to lunch. Now.
- 13:48Speaker 1: With all these stockpiling firearms and everything. He began training
- 13:52Speaker 1: his children to handle these guns as well, teaching them
- 13:55Speaker 1: to shoot with precisions or disassembling and reassembling all the
- 13:59Speaker 1: weapons and prepared for battle. He's essentially turning his household
- 14:03Speaker 1: into a mini battalion. Yeah, having soldiers at the ready,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and by the end of their training, the Sexton children
- 14:09Speaker 1: have become quite proficient with these firearms.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Okay, this is not going to end well, you don't
- 14:16Speaker 2: think no, Yeah, no, I'm pretty worried now.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Well for Eddie, though, just preparing for war wasn't good enough.
- 14:24Speaker 1: He decided that he needed to find a way to
- 14:25Speaker 1: try and hide more of the truths, if at all possible,
- 14:28Speaker 1: trying to avoid this war, right, just hide the truths
- 14:31Speaker 1: and not have this war happen, which I mean prevention
- 14:34Speaker 1: is that's a good thing. But like you said earlier,
- 14:36Speaker 1: just don't fuck your kids and maybe don't beat them
- 14:39Speaker 1: and all this other shit too. But for him, he's
- 14:41Speaker 1: trying to find another way to cover all those secrets
- 14:44Speaker 1: of those things he's done. So this is where a
- 14:46Speaker 1: young man by the name of Joel Good would come in. Now.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Joel was a quiet and kind young man when he
- 14:52Speaker 1: became an unwitting participant in Eddie's efforts to conceal the truth.
- 14:57Speaker 1: But before we look at what happens with him and
- 14:59Speaker 1: the family, need to kind of take a look at
- 15:01Speaker 1: who Joel was a little bit now. Joel's life was
- 15:04Speaker 1: marked by tragedy early on, at just thirteen years old,
- 15:07Speaker 1: he lost both of his parents within a short time,
- 15:10Speaker 1: his father to a heart attack and his mother to
- 15:12Speaker 1: complications from diabetes. From there, he was initially sent to
- 15:16Speaker 1: live with his grandparents, but eventually moved to Jackson, Ohio.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I had to live with his aunt Tessa, and by
- 15:22Speaker 1: the time he reached high school, Joel's described as quiet, kind,
- 15:26Speaker 1: good looking young man. Despite some learning difficulties, he had
- 15:29Speaker 1: a close knit group of friends who appreciated his gentle demeanor.
- 15:34Speaker 1: It was through one of his friends, a girl named Terry,
- 15:36Speaker 1: that Joel would meet Pixie Sexton and during their or
- 15:41Speaker 1: jor high junior year in high school together. Now, while
- 15:44Speaker 1: they didn't begin dating immediately, the two grew closer over
- 15:48Speaker 1: time and officially started a relationship their senior year. Now,
- 15:52Speaker 1: when Joel began spending time with Pixie and spending time
- 15:56Speaker 1: at the Sexton house, he quickly became a well liked
- 15:58Speaker 1: individual with the entire family, even with Eddie. Okay, yeah, now,
- 16:03Speaker 1: how easy Eddie. How easily Eddie let Joel into the
- 16:06Speaker 1: family and of course letting Pixie see him as well,
- 16:09Speaker 1: was quite shocking to many. In hindsight, it's kind of
- 16:11Speaker 1: clear that this was actually part of his plan, because
- 16:14Speaker 1: up until now there was very tight restrictions on even
- 16:18Speaker 1: talking to anybody, let alone having a relationship with, you know,
- 16:21Speaker 1: someone of the opposite sex or a partner or anything
- 16:23Speaker 1: like that. So it was quite you know, unbelievable to
- 16:27Speaker 1: see that he was allowing this to actually happen.
- 16:29Speaker 3: So he very much so had ulterior motives one hundred percent,
- 16:33Speaker 3: because uh yeah, Well, by the time Joe and Pixie
- 16:37Speaker 3: started dating, Pixie had already given birth to two of
- 16:40Speaker 3: Eddie's children.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Right right now, Pixie was pregnant with a third gosh. Yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 1: Eddie was beginning to be more and more worried about
- 16:49Speaker 1: people finding out what was really going on, and he
- 16:51Speaker 1: needed Pixie to pursue a public relationship with someone aka Joel,
- 16:56Speaker 1: so he could have this scapegoat, right, so the people
- 17:00Speaker 1: can look at and be like, oh, this is the
- 17:03Speaker 1: person you know that's God are pregnant and I'm sure
- 17:05Speaker 1: there's these military men that have come and gone a
- 17:07Speaker 1: couple times so far, but now this is the explanation
- 17:10Speaker 1: for the third or whatever. Right. So Pixie began seeing
- 17:13Speaker 1: Joel under her father's directions and told Joel that the
- 17:16Speaker 1: baby she was carrying was his. Joel, who of course
- 17:21Speaker 1: longed for a family of his own, was super excited
- 17:24Speaker 1: for the news. For him, the prospect of becoming a
- 17:27Speaker 1: father was an absolute dream come true. I mean, after all,
- 17:31Speaker 1: he did lose his parents when he was quite young,
- 17:33Speaker 1: so having that family tie meant all the more to him.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Right. Okay, so I'm confused. So Eddie told Joel this.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Well, Eddie told Pixie to do this with Joel, right,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and so Pixie is like, hey, Joel, it's your baby.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Oh, so like it could actually have been his baby
- 17:52Speaker 2: kind of thing.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Possibly yes, but well.
- 17:56Speaker 2: No, like he actually like they had sex.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Yes, possibly, as far as I'm aware, it could paternally
- 18:04Speaker 1: be his child.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Yes, okay, but I was just thinking they told him
- 18:08Speaker 2: this and like the two of them hadn't even done that.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I don't. Well, I think now there is there was
- 18:18Speaker 1: never a paternity test done on this child, which we'll
- 18:21Speaker 1: talk about a little bit later. But there's never a
- 18:23Speaker 1: paternity test done on this child. So there is no
- 18:26Speaker 1: concrete evidence or anything I could find that really says
- 18:32Speaker 1: you're right or I'm right. For all I know, Joel
- 18:35Speaker 1: very well may not have sex with have had sex
- 18:38Speaker 1: with Pixie, and maybe she has convinced him otherwise, and
- 18:41Speaker 1: maybe he didn't know how that worked quite yet because
- 18:43Speaker 1: he was young too. I don't know. Okay, I'm assuming that, yes,
- 18:47Speaker 1: they have had sex and there is an actual potential
- 18:50Speaker 1: for this to be his child. But in reality, I
- 18:55Speaker 1: think Pixie became pregnant and quickly gotten this relationship with Joel.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that I think makes the most sense. But I
- 19:05Speaker 2: was just like curious how this was going down kind
- 19:08Speaker 2: of thing.
- 19:08Speaker 1: But Okay, there's been no paternal test done, and you'll
- 19:11Speaker 1: understand why later. But there's been no paternal test done,
- 19:14Speaker 1: and we don't know for certain.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Okay, keep it, poor Joel. He now has a family,
- 19:21Speaker 2: and I'm so happy about it. But this family is
- 19:23Speaker 2: just so messed up.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Oh, this is about the most messed up family you
- 19:26Speaker 1: can fucking think of.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yeah, like he needed to have run for the hills, man.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah, but as far as he knew though, he was
- 19:34Speaker 1: just he had not only a loving partner by a
- 19:38Speaker 1: side who's going to start a family with, and I
- 19:40Speaker 1: mean she's already got two kids that he's kind of
- 19:42Speaker 1: becoming the father for, but he also has Eddie, who
- 19:46Speaker 1: we know is a very manipulative individual. He's very suave,
- 19:50Speaker 1: if you will, with the public and everything right, and
- 19:52Speaker 1: he's playing this role onto Joel as well. So now
- 19:55Speaker 1: Joel also has a father figure himself too. So the
- 19:59Speaker 1: family he never had and the family that he wanted
- 20:02Speaker 1: he gets to also create. It's to him, it's everything
- 20:05Speaker 1: he's always wanted.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Oh man, that just like pulls at the heartstrip really does. Now.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Joel did have some aunts who raised him after his
- 20:13Speaker 1: parents passed away. I mentioned one earlier that he had
- 20:17Speaker 1: moved in with, and neither of these aunts liked the
- 20:20Speaker 1: situation he was found in, and they were extremely skeptical
- 20:24Speaker 1: of Pixie and the whole Sexton family. However, Joel didn't care.
- 20:28Speaker 1: All he knew is that he was going to be
- 20:30Speaker 1: a father and remained committed to Pixie. For Joel, this
- 20:34Speaker 1: relationship was a chance to build the stability he lost
- 20:37Speaker 1: with the death of his parents. For Eddie and Pixie,
- 20:40Speaker 1: it was a means of protecting the secrets that could
- 20:42Speaker 1: have exposed the Sexton's family's horror in the house now. Eventually,
- 20:47Speaker 1: Joel moved into the Sexton home and he and Pixie
- 20:50Speaker 1: became engaged, and Eddie put together a rushed wedding, trying
- 20:54Speaker 1: to solidify his plan. Oh jeez, so this This wedding
- 21:01Speaker 1: originally was scheduled for Valentine's Day February fourteenth, nineteen ninety two,
- 21:06Speaker 1: but was abruptly moved up two days by Eddie. He
- 21:09Speaker 1: suggested they marry immediately and insisted Joel not inform his
- 21:12Speaker 1: family about the change. Joel was eager to please his
- 21:15Speaker 1: future father in law and agreed with no question, So
- 21:17Speaker 1: in February twelfth, nineteen ninety two, Eddie himself officiated the
- 21:21Speaker 1: again mock wedding, ceremony, which was probably not very legal.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I mean maybe it was in this case because he
- 21:27Speaker 1: was pretty anxious for legal paperwork, so there might have
- 21:32Speaker 1: been some formal legalities around this one. But also immediately
- 21:39Speaker 1: after this wedding, Joel and Pixie went to the local
- 21:41Speaker 1: health department to file a certificate of paternity for Don,
- 21:45Speaker 1: Pixie's first child. Joel legally claimed Don as his daughter,
- 21:49Speaker 1: and the couple planned to do the same for Shasta,
- 21:51Speaker 1: the second daughter, in another jurisdiction. So they're going to go, like,
- 21:55Speaker 1: get this done immediately now, right right now. The thing is, though,
- 22:01Speaker 1: Michelle Sexton, one of Eddie's daughters, in late nineteen ninety one,
- 22:06Speaker 1: about a year a few months really before the marriage happened,
- 22:10Speaker 1: began notifying her school counselor about abuse occurring in the home.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Her breaking point when she came when she witnessed Eddie
- 22:18Speaker 1: kissing in an inappropriate way one of her sorry her
- 22:24Speaker 1: two younger sisters, Lana and Kimberly, and she realized that
- 22:28Speaker 1: they were likely during the same abuse that she had
- 22:31Speaker 1: already endured as well being the of course sexual abuse. Initially,
- 22:37Speaker 1: she hesitated due to the DHS's repeated failures in previous
- 22:41Speaker 1: investigations upon the home, but Michelle only disclosed partial details
- 22:45Speaker 1: because of this. Now that was only at first, because, however,
- 22:48Speaker 1: over time she revealed enough information to prompt action to
- 22:53Speaker 1: actually occur. So by February of nineteen ninety two, DHS
- 22:57Speaker 1: officials determined Michelle needed to be removed from the home
- 23:00Speaker 1: for her safety. So in the morning of February twelfth,
- 23:03Speaker 1: just two just a few hours before Pixie and Joel's wedding,
- 23:07Speaker 1: DHS agents arrived with Michelle, collected her belongings, and placed
- 23:12Speaker 1: her in foster care. The timing of the visit likely
- 23:16Speaker 1: is why Eddie suddenly moved up the wedding, rushed it
- 23:21Speaker 1: all to happen right away.
- 23:22Speaker 2: That makes sense because I was kind of like, what's
- 23:24Speaker 2: two days, buddy, Like that just didn't make any sense. Yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 2: But also so good of her, was it, Michelle?
- 23:31Speaker 1: You said, let me double check, Becau. There's a few
- 23:34Speaker 1: names going across crosses here. Yes, it was Michelle's everything.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Wow, nikes that I'm just like so proud of her,
- 23:40Speaker 2: Like good for her. That would just not be easy
- 23:42Speaker 2: because she's very brainwashed.
- 23:44Speaker 1: One hundred percent, So big props to her that wouldn't
- 23:47Speaker 1: have been easy for no. But now Eddie was facing
- 23:52Speaker 1: this scrutiny because DHS was on his ass. They had
- 23:54Speaker 1: already removed one of the children from the home. There's
- 23:57Speaker 1: a lot of questions going around on who these kids are,
- 23:59Speaker 1: in the maternity of them, there's a lot going on,
- 24:03Speaker 1: And in his mind, he could convince everyone that Pixie's
- 24:07Speaker 1: children were Joel's, all of them. He could even shake
- 24:12Speaker 1: DHS in his own mind. But there's a glaring flaw
- 24:15Speaker 1: because Joel met Pixie five months after the first daughter
- 24:20Speaker 1: was already born, Okay, so making it impossible for him
- 24:24Speaker 1: to at least be one of the kids, right right, Yeah,
- 24:27Speaker 1: But Eddie was just like, no, I can convince them,
- 24:30Speaker 1: you know, we'll get them to do the paperwork, legal stuff,
- 24:32Speaker 1: and it'll be fine. But regardless. Meanwhile, Michelle though at
- 24:38Speaker 1: first hesitated to share the full extent of what happened
- 24:40Speaker 1: within the home, Like she started opening up quite a
- 24:43Speaker 1: bit at school to the counselor, but with DHS and everything,
- 24:47Speaker 1: she was quite hesitant. You know, she'd been brainwashed for
- 24:49Speaker 1: so long about authorities. It was quite a bit for
- 24:53Speaker 1: her to tear down that wall.
- 24:54Speaker 2: When I imagined to the school counselor. She had built
- 24:57Speaker 2: up this relationship with them, right, exactly, and these people
- 25:00Speaker 2: DHS she was just meeting exactly. Yeah.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Now, over time, she began to share more and more details,
- 25:06Speaker 1: which included the accounts of sexual and physical abuse inflicted
- 25:09Speaker 1: upon herself and her siblings. Thankfully, Michelle's bravery is what
- 25:16Speaker 1: opened the floodgates. Her disclosures were enough for DHS to
- 25:20Speaker 1: finally take action, and on April sixteenth, nineteen ninety two,
- 25:23Speaker 1: they removed all the miners from the Sexton family household.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Okay, including the kid like the grandkids.
- 25:34Speaker 1: They removed all the miners from home.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I have such disturbing question going through my
- 25:40Speaker 2: head too that no one can answer. But it's like,
- 25:43Speaker 2: with Pixie getting married, does that mean that he can't
- 25:47Speaker 2: have a relationship with her anymore? I'm assuming right, Well,
- 25:50Speaker 2: who knows, God, I don't know why that's so.
- 25:53Speaker 1: You're saying Eddie can't have a relationship with Pixie anymore.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Yeah, like a sexual relationship.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I don't think that would have stopped him.
- 25:59Speaker 2: That's true, that's true.
- 26:01Speaker 1: No, Eddie's the type of individual who he has control
- 26:05Speaker 1: over everything. I mean, he's already married with his wife
- 26:09Speaker 1: and he's having a sexual relationship with his fucking daughter. Yes,
- 26:12Speaker 1: so I'm pretty sure if he wants to have a
- 26:14Speaker 1: relationship with her daughter, whether she's married or not, he's
- 26:16Speaker 1: going to.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, in my head, I was like, Nope, can't happen.
- 26:22Speaker 2: So I kind of wish and I wouldn't have brought
- 26:24Speaker 2: it up.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Sorry. So when they removed these these children from the home,
- 26:29Speaker 1: DHS did have quite a strategy to it. They picked
- 26:32Speaker 1: up the children from school to avoid alerting Eddie and
- 26:34Speaker 1: May as best as they could. However, two children remained
- 26:37Speaker 1: at the home and required DHS workers to actually retreat
- 26:40Speaker 1: them directly. As more children began sharing their experiences once
- 26:44Speaker 1: picked up by DHS and corroborating Michelle's accounts, the evidence
- 26:48Speaker 1: against Eddie just kept growing stronger and stronger, despite both
- 26:52Speaker 1: him and May of course denying it all. So Eddie
- 26:57Speaker 1: was soon ordered to stay off the family property and
- 27:00Speaker 1: have no contact with May or the children during the investigation. Initially,
- 27:04Speaker 1: this arrangement allowed some of the children to return home
- 27:07Speaker 1: to May under the condition that, of course Eddie not
- 27:10Speaker 1: be involved in their life. Right at this point, the
- 27:13Speaker 1: full extent of May's complicit I'm sorry, complicity in the
- 27:17Speaker 1: abuse had not yet really fully been revealed, which is
- 27:20Speaker 1: why DHS kind of allowed this because that hadn't been
- 27:23Speaker 1: brought up yet, no one really knew, and so yeah,
- 27:26Speaker 1: that's kind of the only real reason why she was
- 27:27Speaker 1: allowed to retain custody. But Eddie, however, of course, did
- 27:32Speaker 1: not listen to what the authority say had said. Sorry,
- 27:36Speaker 1: he did not stay away. He violated the no contact order,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and he frequently visited the house. However, one day Eddie
- 27:42Speaker 1: arrived at the home and declared he wasn't leaving.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Gosh, of course, of course.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Yeah, so he barricaded himself in and the family with
- 27:52Speaker 1: him into the home and called the Jackson Police Department,
- 27:56Speaker 1: and he warned them that he was not about to surrender.
- 27:59Speaker 1: He threatened with violence, and he stated that if officers
- 28:02Speaker 1: attempt to remove him, he would quote leave a trail
- 28:05Speaker 1: of bodies.
- 28:07Speaker 2: And he's been preparing for this, he has been, and
- 28:09Speaker 2: they probably don't know that.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Nope, So he's got a bunch of guns in the house,
- 28:14Speaker 1: he's got trained children to stand guard, and yeah, law
- 28:18Speaker 1: enforcement quickly responded, surrounded the home. You know, they cleared
- 28:22Speaker 1: off the street where the home was at, and Eddie
- 28:25Speaker 1: armed his kids, giving them guns and instructing them to
- 28:27Speaker 1: shoot anyone who got too close to the house. So
- 28:31Speaker 1: the standoff lasted two days to the two days yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 1: with officers trying to negotiate a peaceful resolution, and on
- 28:38Speaker 1: the second day, a deputy managed to reach Eddie by phone,
- 28:42Speaker 1: and thanks thankfully to this deputy, either common patient negotiation
- 28:46Speaker 1: tactics ultimately succeeded in persuading Eddie to surrender. Eddie exited
- 28:53Speaker 1: the home and was immediately taken into custody, ending the standoff,
- 28:57Speaker 1: thankfully without any bloodshed.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Okay, that's impressive. I did not think that was going
- 29:03Speaker 2: to be going that way.
- 29:04Speaker 1: No me either. Honestly, it could have gone a lot worse,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and I'm surprised Eddie let it go that honestly, even
- 29:12Speaker 1: that soon. If you're a surrender, I thought it would
- 29:14Speaker 1: have gone longer. Yeah, most likely he was all up
- 29:18Speaker 1: in his own head because he seems like a weird
- 29:21Speaker 1: individual up there, So probably he kind of got to
- 29:24Speaker 1: himself and talked himself down before the officers did. Anyways. Yeah,
- 29:28Speaker 1: but it's hard to say.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Yeah, he doesn't seem like someone that would let other
- 29:32Speaker 2: people convince him to do anything.
- 29:34Speaker 1: No, which is exactly why I think he would have
- 29:36Speaker 1: been the one to convince himself. So it seemed like
- 29:39Speaker 1: the cycle of control and abuse had finally been broken. However,
- 29:43Speaker 1: for reasons that are very difficult to comprehend, Eddie was
- 29:48Speaker 1: allowed to post bond and he was released from custody.
- 29:53Speaker 2: What the shit?
- 29:55Speaker 1: Yeah you may not believe it, but this is what
- 29:57Speaker 1: set the stage for even more tragic events soon.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Are you kidding me? Nope, they had him and he
- 30:05Speaker 2: was able to get out.
- 30:07Speaker 1: They let him walk.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Holy shit, that is mind blowing to me.
- 30:12Speaker 1: You pissed?
- 30:13Speaker 2: Yeah, rightfully, so I am too and shocked. That just
- 30:16Speaker 2: makes no sense.
- 30:17Speaker 1: No, it doesn't. I'm with you right there.
- 30:20Speaker 2: The fuck? Yeah?
- 30:21Speaker 1: The fuck?
- 30:23Speaker 2: Okay you could? I yeah, I guess, but that just
- 30:28Speaker 2: I'm like flabbergast.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I think we need to get you like a stress
- 30:32Speaker 1: ball or something that amazing. Or maybe we'll get you
- 30:36Speaker 1: like a pillow with fucking Eddie Sexton's face on it
- 30:39Speaker 1: so you can just punch it whenever you get.
- 30:41Speaker 2: There will be numerous have to be numerous faces on there,
- 30:44Speaker 2: But honestly, like a wicket, Ingram's stress ball. That sounds dope.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I'd be into that, Toche. So immediately after posting Bond,
- 30:53Speaker 1: Eddie returned to the family home, not surprising despite the
- 30:57Speaker 1: no contact order. But this time he came with a plan,
- 31:00Speaker 1: and to not bunker down to not you know, wall
- 31:03Speaker 1: themselves inside, but instead, his plan was to hit the
- 31:07Speaker 1: road to run.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Oh gosh.
- 31:10Speaker 1: He instructed May and the children to pack what they could,
- 31:13Speaker 1: and the family loaded into the travel trailer and headed
- 31:16Speaker 1: out of town. Their destination was a secluded campground in
- 31:20Speaker 1: Hillsboro River State Park in Florida, where Eddie hoped to
- 31:24Speaker 1: avoid detection. Now. Eddie's paranoia continued to escalate only more
- 31:29Speaker 1: and more from here. He repeatedly told his children that
- 31:32Speaker 1: they were at war with authorities. So they're on the
- 31:35Speaker 1: road driving or whatever it was, and he's just like,
- 31:37Speaker 1: we're at war. We're at war. And he's just instilling
- 31:40Speaker 1: this fear and even more so separating them from the
- 31:43Speaker 1: outside world because they're now out in the world. They
- 31:46Speaker 1: don't have that safety at home, right, And he's like,
- 31:48Speaker 1: we're at war. You gotta stick with me, Like we
- 31:50Speaker 1: got to stick together. We can't trust anyone, like so
- 31:54Speaker 1: it's this big mind fuck game. Now, by this time,
- 31:59Speaker 1: Pixie had given to her third child, named Skipper Lee
- 32:03Speaker 1: Good love the name Skipper. That's fucking awesome.
- 32:06Speaker 2: That's actually super cute.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Yeah. So by this time he was a nine month
- 32:10Speaker 1: old little boy, and Joel Pixie, our children, Don, Shasta,
- 32:15Speaker 1: and Skipper were amongst the family at the campground when
- 32:18Speaker 1: the family fled. So at some point after arriving in Florida,
- 32:22Speaker 1: at this campground, Pixie California, right, Florida.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Oh was it Florida? Oh? I thought you said California
- 32:28Speaker 2: at one time.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Okay if I did, sorry, it's Florida, Florida, Okay, okay.
- 32:34Speaker 1: So while they're in Florida, Pixie decided to tell Joel
- 32:39Speaker 1: the devastating truth about the paternity of Down and Shasta,
- 32:44Speaker 1: the two oldest. Oh man, Yeah, she told him the truth.
- 32:51Speaker 1: And Joel, who had of course devoted himself to Pixie
- 32:53Speaker 1: and the children, was devastated. He was furious and heartbroken,
- 32:58Speaker 1: and he confronted Eddie at it too. He's like, you're
- 33:01Speaker 1: the fucking father of these two kids. Eddie was not
- 33:06Speaker 1: about to tolerate anyone challenging his authority or talking back
- 33:09Speaker 1: to him, and he responded with violence, brutally beating Joel.
- 33:14Speaker 2: What did he expect that Joel just be like, okay, cool, right,
- 33:19Speaker 2: of course, that any sane person is going to act
- 33:21Speaker 2: that way. Well, I act, I feel.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Like he knows that too, right, But he just demands
- 33:27Speaker 1: absolute control over everyone in the vicinity, So if anyone
- 33:30Speaker 1: challenges him on it, of course he's going to get violent.
- 33:33Speaker 1: He's gotten violent with everyone else in.
- 33:35Speaker 2: The household, I guess, But I just don't quite understand
- 33:38Speaker 2: what why he would feel the need to tell him,
- 33:41Speaker 2: knowing what would happen. You know.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Well, Eddie didn't tell him. Pixie told him, Oh, sorry.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Shit, god, I am here. Okay, I'm getting mixed up.
- 33:50Speaker 1: So Pixie told Joel see and then Joel confronted Eddie
- 33:54Speaker 1: and then Eddie was like, you know what, fuck you
- 33:56Speaker 1: and beat him up.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Damn Okay, okay, that's wow.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, Despite all of this, though, Joel chose to stay.
- 34:10Speaker 1: His love for Pixie and the children kept him tied
- 34:13Speaker 1: to the family. The family was now living in the
- 34:16Speaker 1: cramped quarters of this travel trailer and the campground, and
- 34:20Speaker 1: that's where they would stay with Joel. Now soon though,
- 34:25Speaker 1: baby Skipper began showing signs of being sick shortly after
- 34:29Speaker 1: arriving there. He developed a cold that lingered and worsened
- 34:32Speaker 1: over the course of several weeks, leaving him miserable and
- 34:36Speaker 1: constantly crying. Now remember they are living in a cramped RV,
- 34:40Speaker 1: right right, and you got a lot of people living
- 34:42Speaker 1: in this RV as well. Pixie and Joel wanted to
- 34:45Speaker 1: take Skipper to a doctor, but Eddie forbade it. He
- 34:50Speaker 1: was terrified that any interaction with any outside authorities would
- 34:53Speaker 1: expose their location and result in an arrest. I mean,
- 34:57Speaker 1: he already had warrants out for both him and May
- 34:59Speaker 1: for skipping court hearings by this point. So as Skipper's
- 35:03Speaker 1: condition deteriorated, his crying became incessant. Eddie grew increasingly frustrated
- 35:09Speaker 1: and paranoid that the baby's cries would attract unwanted attention
- 35:13Speaker 1: to their hiding spot in this campground. His anger escalated
- 35:16Speaker 1: to threats, warning Pixie that if she didn't silence the baby,
- 35:21Speaker 1: he would dang. Now the details of what happened next
- 35:26Speaker 1: are a little bit murky, as multiple accounts have been
- 35:29Speaker 1: provided by those who were present, but what is clear
- 35:33Speaker 1: is that Eddie's frustrations with Skipper's crying reached a boiling point, and,
- 35:37Speaker 1: in a desperate attempt to please her father and silent Skipper,
- 35:41Speaker 1: Pixie placed her hand over the baby's nose and mouth
- 35:44Speaker 1: until he stopped crying and breathing. Really, yes, her nine
- 35:53Speaker 1: month old son.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Oh, okay, I thought that it was going to be
- 35:59Speaker 2: Eddie then did it?
- 36:01Speaker 1: No?
- 36:02Speaker 2: I don't know? Okay?
- 36:05Speaker 1: Shit now. Initially, Pixie and Eddie both claimed that Skipper
- 36:09Speaker 1: had died in his sleep from sudden infantel syndrome or SITS.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Joel was unaware of what had actually happened because I'm
- 36:17Speaker 1: assuming he wasn't there when it occurred, right, but was devastated,
- 36:22Speaker 1: like absolutely devastated, and he wanted to take Skipper's body
- 36:25Speaker 1: to the police station to arrange for him to be
- 36:27Speaker 1: transported back to Ohio for a proper burial. Man Eddie, however,
- 36:34Speaker 1: refused to allow it to happen, and tensions were now
- 36:38Speaker 1: at an all time high. Joe insisted on taking Skipper's
- 36:42Speaker 1: body in and his persistent demands began to terrify Eddie,
- 36:47Speaker 1: who realized Joel knew way too many things of the
- 36:51Speaker 1: family secrets. At this point, no, Eddie became convinced that
- 36:55Speaker 1: Joel's heartbreak and growing anger would ultimately lead him to
- 36:59Speaker 1: go to the police, and he saw Joel nothing as
- 37:02Speaker 1: Joel as nothing more than a liability.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Uh oh okay, I'm fricking terrified. But I also just
- 37:10Speaker 2: have to say that, poor baby, it was probably so
- 37:13Speaker 2: simple what it needed, probably right. Yeah, like that is
- 37:17Speaker 2: just that is just disgusting.
- 37:20Speaker 1: I know, it's beyond fucked.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Now, initially Eddie planned to solve this situation by stealing
- 37:27Speaker 1: another baby and replace Skipper to shut Joel up. Yeah,
- 37:32Speaker 1: but his plan to go steal another infant didn't work out,
- 37:36Speaker 1: so Eddie went to plan B, which was killed Joel.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Hmm okay, yeah, that's what I kind of had in
- 37:42Speaker 2: mind there.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Yeah. And Eddie, of course, being the coward that he was,
- 37:46Speaker 1: turned to his sons once again to do the dirty work.
- 37:50Speaker 1: His son, Willie, who was known as to not have
- 37:53Speaker 1: a very high IQ, was especially vulnerable to Eddie's manipulation.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Eddie of course exploited this, convincing Willie to lure Joel
- 38:01Speaker 1: into the woods under the guise of going for a
- 38:03Speaker 1: walk and then kill him. So Willie invited Joel to
- 38:08Speaker 1: go take a stroll in the woods. Joel, unaware of
- 38:10Speaker 1: what was going to happen, just you know, sure, let's go,
- 38:13Speaker 1: he agreed, and once they were deep in the forest,
- 38:16Speaker 1: Willie attacked Joel from behind with a rope, intending to
- 38:20Speaker 1: strangle him. So he wrapped the rope around his neck
- 38:23Speaker 1: and he began to strangle Joel. Now, according to another
- 38:30Speaker 1: one of Eddie's sons, Charles, who witnessed the attack, Willie
- 38:35Speaker 1: was crying the entire time he was choking Joel. He
- 38:40Speaker 1: didn't want to kill him, but he felt powerless to
- 38:42Speaker 1: defy his father, and as Willy struggled to carry out
- 38:45Speaker 1: this grim task, reportedly, Eddie even stood nearby with a
- 38:49Speaker 1: gun pointed towards Willy's head, yelling finish the job.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Oh man, So he's just now like he's making his
- 38:59Speaker 2: his kids murderers.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Yes, either you kill or you be killed.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yeah, like that, you have no choice.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Joel ultimately succumbed the assault and died there in
- 39:13Speaker 1: the woods. Following the murder, Eddie ordered his sons to
- 39:17Speaker 1: bury Joel's body, just as they had buried Skippers weeks earlier.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So now after months of evading capture, Eddie's downfall began
- 39:28Speaker 1: when one of the brothers contacted authorities. The brother revealed
- 39:32Speaker 1: that Eddie sorry, yeah, one of Eddie's brothers. Oh, got
- 39:37Speaker 1: to clarify that one, not one of the brothers, one
- 39:38Speaker 1: of Eddie's brothers.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 39:40Speaker 1: So the brother revealed that Eddie had recently visited and
- 39:42Speaker 1: used his phone to make two long distant phone calls.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Investigators traced the numbers, one of which led them to
- 39:49Speaker 1: Little Manatee River State Park in Florida, where the family
- 39:53Speaker 1: was now staying. So after some intense surveillance on the
- 39:57Speaker 1: property and waiting for the right moment, on January four, fourteenth,
- 40:00Speaker 1: nineteen ninety four, authorities arrested Eddie and may Sexton in
- 40:05Speaker 1: the parking lot of the wind Dixie grocery store, ending
- 40:08Speaker 1: a fourteen month long manhunt.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Dang, okay, fourteen months they got away with that, hey.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Fourteen mother fucking months.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Okay, Well keep them in jail this time, please, no
- 40:24Speaker 2: like bails or nothing.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Yeah, well that that would be the case. Yes, they're
- 40:28Speaker 1: not bailing. There's no bonds, no bails, no nothing this time.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Okay. When you were like, well, I was gonna slap you.
- 40:36Speaker 1: I'm just the bearer of the news here, I'm just
- 40:38Speaker 1: telling a story. Well, when questioned, Charles Sexton broke his
- 40:44Speaker 1: silence because of course, the entire family is now being
- 40:46Speaker 1: interrogated and questioned, right, and Charles revealed the horrifying details
- 40:51Speaker 1: of what actually transpired. He confessed to authorities about the
- 40:54Speaker 1: death of both Joel and Skipper, and he led investigators
- 40:58Speaker 1: to their burial sites. The body of Joel and Skipper
- 41:01Speaker 1: were recovered and returned to Ohio, where Joel's grieving family
- 41:05Speaker 1: could finally provide them with a proper burial. Now, in
- 41:09Speaker 1: a heart wrenching decision, Joe's family chose to bury Skipper
- 41:14Speaker 1: and Joel together in the same casket. A paternity test
- 41:20Speaker 1: confirmed that Eddie was a biological father of Pixie's first
- 41:23Speaker 1: two children, Don and Shasta. However, Joel's family opted against
- 41:27Speaker 1: testing Skipper, choosing instead to honors Joel role Joe's role
- 41:33Speaker 1: as a boy's father. Regardless of what the blood test revealed,
- 41:37Speaker 1: Joel loved and cared for him in a way that
- 41:39Speaker 1: Eddie never could, and in their eyes, just Joel deserved
- 41:42Speaker 1: that title more than anyone else.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Oh dang that breaks your fucking heart.
- 41:47Speaker 1: So they never got the test done because no matter
- 41:51Speaker 1: what it said, Skipper was Joel's son.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Dang, that is like actually like just so nice day. Yeah,
- 42:00Speaker 2: what a way to honor someone, right.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Now, Eddie May and several other family members went to trial. Charles,
- 42:07Speaker 1: who had cooperated with authorities and helped locate the bodies,
- 42:10Speaker 1: was granted immunity and avoided charges. Other members of the family,
- 42:14Speaker 1: finally feeling safe from Eddie's control, would actually even testify
- 42:18Speaker 1: against him in court. So in November of nineteen ninety four,
- 42:22Speaker 1: Eddie was sentenced in court to death for his role
- 42:26Speaker 1: in the murders. He was sent to Florida Union Correctional Institution.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Before the trial, a psychiatrist evaluated Eddie and diagnosed him
- 42:34Speaker 1: as a sadistic sexual psychopath. Eddie appealed his sentence and
- 42:38Speaker 1: was granted a retrial, but the second trial also ended
- 42:42Speaker 1: in the death penalty.
- 42:44Speaker 2: What a waste of time and stuff.
- 42:46Speaker 1: I know. And for May Sexton. Although not charged with
- 42:49Speaker 1: the murders, May faced eight counts related to the physical
- 42:52Speaker 1: and sexual abuse of her children, including complicity to rape.
- 42:56Speaker 1: She was sentenced to life in prison and served her
- 42:58Speaker 1: time in Ohio Reform for women before she died of
- 43:02Speaker 1: natural causes. In twenty seventeen at the age of seventy,
- 43:07Speaker 1: Pixie Sexton pleaded guilty to manslaughter in death of her
- 43:10Speaker 1: son Skipper. Reports vary, but she was sentenced between sentenced
- 43:14Speaker 1: to between six and twelve years in prison.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Oh. Man, that's kind of sad. That one is hard.
- 43:22Speaker 2: That's hard. It is because she did do it.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Yeah. And finally Willie Sexton, Willie was the one who
- 43:31Speaker 1: strangled Joel under Eddie's orders. He was sentenced to twenty
- 43:34Speaker 1: five years in prison. He was released in two thousand
- 43:37Speaker 1: and seven. Seven. During his own incarceration, Willie reportedly came
- 43:41Speaker 1: to understand the extent of Eddie's control over him and
- 43:43Speaker 1: expressed remorse for what he had done.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Well, because that one, it's literally described though, that he
- 43:50Speaker 2: had a gun pointed at him, right, Yeah, So for
- 43:56Speaker 2: some ticket, twenty five years seems I know.
- 43:59Speaker 1: That's that's tough. And maybe there's things that came up
- 44:02Speaker 1: in court that we don't know about because a lot
- 44:05Speaker 1: of times, like there's a lot of private information and
- 44:08Speaker 1: stuff that happens in court that does not get released
- 44:10Speaker 1: to public. So maybe there's some things in there that
- 44:13Speaker 1: we don't know about. Who knows. Maybe the thing about
- 44:16Speaker 1: Eddie holding the gun up to his head is hearsay.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Maybe that didn't actually happen. Maybe he just followed his
- 44:22Speaker 1: father's orders and that's that.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I mean that's the same too with Pixie, Like,
- 44:28Speaker 2: who knows, Eddie could have been right right there, like yeah,
- 44:31Speaker 2: you know, telling her to do it and stuff too,
- 44:33Speaker 2: right exactly.
- 44:35Speaker 1: But also on the other hand, it could have been
- 44:37Speaker 1: even worse. I mean, maybe Eddie had a gun right
- 44:39Speaker 1: up to Willie's temple too. It's so hard to know,
- 44:44Speaker 1: and what happened in court again, so many things are
- 44:48Speaker 1: confidential information that will will never really ever be released.
- 44:53Speaker 2: And there's still i mean, this isn't that long ago
- 44:56Speaker 2: like this, there's still family members. Oh you know a lie,
- 45:00Speaker 2: Oh definitely, yes, that is just so tough.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Yeah, no, Pixie, Willie, I'm pretty sure most of, if
- 45:08Speaker 1: not all, the children are still alive.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Well, and then the grandchildren or whatever you want to
- 45:13Speaker 2: call them exactly.
- 45:14Speaker 1: I mean, if anyone has passed away, it's certainly not
- 45:17Speaker 1: of old age. It would have been you know, accidents
- 45:19Speaker 1: or disease or anything like that. But by all accounts,
- 45:23Speaker 1: they should be still alive.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yeah, but that is the story of the Sexton family
- 45:30Speaker 1: cults and the monster that is Eddie Lee Sexton.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Hmmm, I'm just shaking my head here. I just it
- 45:41Speaker 2: is unfathomable to that a person, that someone could be
- 45:47Speaker 2: like Eddie. Yeah, it's just so it's so hard to understand.
- 45:51Speaker 1: That people like that exist. Yeah, that people like that
- 45:54Speaker 1: could could actually do those things and not even do them,
- 45:58Speaker 1: but do them again and again and again, knowing they're
- 46:02Speaker 1: wrong because you're trying to hide it from authorities and
- 46:05Speaker 1: continue to do it, and like.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Holy fuck, like the shit that he got away with.
- 46:10Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's hard to believe. But it also
- 46:13Speaker 2: like it makes sense that he got away with so
- 46:15Speaker 2: much too, just you know, the way he.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Was because of controlling his family like that.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 1: But at the same time, it's like DHS had visited
- 46:23Speaker 1: their home a few times, there was investigations. He just
- 46:25Speaker 1: managed to like, you know, like win them over because
- 46:28Speaker 1: in the first episode, if you remember, like DHS visited
- 46:31Speaker 1: and he basically started off by showing like his his
- 46:35Speaker 1: his religious credentials, being like you know, I'm ordained, you know,
- 46:39Speaker 1: I'm just a father who's just so overwhelmed with a
- 46:43Speaker 1: large family.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Huh.
- 46:45Speaker 1: And here it's like, no, you're an abusive piece of shit.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you know. People like that just fascinate me though,
- 46:52Speaker 2: because I'm like the least smooth person ever, Like I
- 46:55Speaker 2: could be in that scenario and have done fuck all,
- 46:58Speaker 2: but I would look guilty as hell.
- 47:00Speaker 1: I think we've talked about this leading yeah.
- 47:02Speaker 2: And I just I just I don't know. I wish
- 47:04Speaker 2: I could have a little bit like of that smoothness,
- 47:07Speaker 2: not that I would use it in this scenario and
- 47:09Speaker 2: all or like for for bad badness or anything badness.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Your smoothness is showing, Nicole.
- 47:17Speaker 2: But I don't know, I just it's just mind bowing
- 47:20Speaker 2: to me that people can be like that, that they
- 47:22Speaker 2: can hide and that oh I just can't even it's yeah,
- 47:28Speaker 2: it's it's unreal. And I would like even like a
- 47:32Speaker 2: percentage of just that smoothness to live my life. Is
- 47:36Speaker 2: that too much to ask?
- 47:39Speaker 1: Get done?
- 47:40Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 47:40Speaker 1: Okay, Wow, Well that was a rant from Nicole today.
- 47:46Speaker 1: She wants a little bit of smoothness. So we're not
- 47:49Speaker 1: getting chunky peanut butter for a while. We're just getting
- 47:51Speaker 1: straight smooth.
- 47:52Speaker 2: That's what she wants.
- 47:54Speaker 1: You want some smooth, there's.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Some smooth totella. Let's do Nilla, that's smooth. I almost
- 47:59Speaker 2: showed you this video chocolate milk of Natilla today, Like oh,
- 48:03Speaker 2: it made me want to tell this so bad. It
- 48:05Speaker 2: was just like a brand new thing in Natilla and
- 48:07Speaker 2: they put this like this spatula thing in there and
- 48:10Speaker 2: like turned it and it just was like it just
- 48:12Speaker 2: made the netilla look so good.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Just like nantella ASMR basically nice.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I almost showed you, but then I knew it
- 48:21Speaker 2: would be like you would have to go get some.
- 48:23Speaker 1: I have a weakness for nutella like I do chocolate milk,
- 48:27Speaker 1: though it is nowhere near my weakness for chocolate milk,
- 48:31Speaker 1: it is akin to that weakness.
- 48:34Speaker 2: We don't have it much at all, No, I can't.
- 48:37Speaker 2: We've hadn't had it for years probably no.
- 48:39Speaker 1: But like I can get sick of Natella, I can't
- 48:41Speaker 1: get sick of chocolate milk, but I have the same
- 48:43Speaker 1: like craving for it.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Actually that's a lie, because I bought a little thing
- 48:48Speaker 2: of it within probably the last six months, and I
- 48:51Speaker 2: was gonna maybe a year, I don't know, but I
- 48:53Speaker 2: was gonna have some on toasts and stuff, but and
- 48:55Speaker 2: you freaking just ate it all. I got none.
- 48:57Speaker 1: It was delicious. I don't remember this, but I'm sure
- 48:59Speaker 1: it was delicious. Sounds like me, it does. It was
- 49:03Speaker 1: probably delicious anyway, Okay, okay, we're gonna go probably see
- 49:08Speaker 1: if we can find Natella on Skip the Dishes or
- 49:11Speaker 1: or something like that. In the meantime, thank you guys
- 49:14Speaker 1: for being here. We appreciate you. Shout out to our
