- 0:00Speaker 1: He knows his way around all this. It's the Marks
- 0:04Speaker 1: Among Show on seven tenbr Well, let's talk to the
- 0:09Speaker 1: dean himself, Ed Rollins, the greatest of all that political analysts.
- 0:13Speaker 1: He's run a lot of campaigns, worked in a lot
- 0:15Speaker 1: of white houses, and knows this stuff better than anybody.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Ed Rollins, How you doing doing pretty well?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Thank you? Confusing times. We're in trouble times. But the
- 0:25Speaker 2: good news is we elected a strong candidate yesterday to
- 0:28Speaker 2: be the nominated replaced Marjorie Taylor Green. He hit the nomination,
- 0:32Speaker 2: he was endorsed by the President a runoff April seventh,
- 0:35Speaker 2: that he should win it. Easy.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, what about the president going to Kentucky, Ohio today,
- 0:40Speaker 1: wants to get rid of Massy? What about Massy?
- 0:44Speaker 2: You know that. I assume that's going to happen, But
- 0:47Speaker 2: he knows. At the end of the day here, there's
- 0:50Speaker 2: a lot to play out here. And the reality is
- 0:54Speaker 2: that if you remember of Congress today and you're in
- 0:56Speaker 2: the forty or fifty that are in trouble seats, uh,
- 1:01Speaker 2: your polls aren't going to be very good and you're
- 1:02Speaker 2: gonna be very worried. You're gonna go work very hard
- 1:04Speaker 2: so yeah, we'll see that. There's a lot on the
- 1:06Speaker 2: genuinary now and overwhelming thing is the economy and a
- 1:12Speaker 2: lot of discussion in the last twelve days of the
- 1:14Speaker 2: war in Iran. But the reality is most Americans could
- 1:17Speaker 2: care one way or the other about that. You know,
- 1:20Speaker 2: they won't. They want to. They care about their gas prices.
- 1:22Speaker 2: And if we see a rise there, which you know,
- 1:27Speaker 2: all the size or we will all of those some
- 1:30Speaker 2: good news. I guess the group that controls gas prices
- 1:34Speaker 2: just basically said they're to the not the gas price
- 1:37Speaker 2: of the oil. Yeah, the release out of the security.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So yeah, if yeah, you've got a spike during this
- 1:44Speaker 1: little conflict, and then let's say a month from now,
- 1:47Speaker 1: as a result, prices are down, in fact, they go
- 1:49Speaker 1: even lower than before. Won't that fix everything for the GOP?
- 1:53Speaker 2: It will, it will help. It won't fix everything.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Mike Johnson's speak of the how Mike Johnson he said yesterday, Uh,
- 2:02Speaker 1: the GOP is in a course correction mode. After Christy Nome.
- 2:05Speaker 1: After all, that does the GOP that they really need
- 2:07Speaker 1: a course correction.
- 2:10Speaker 2: They need something And it's not just Christy Dome, it's
- 2:13Speaker 2: it's uh, you know, it's not functioning at the end
- 2:17Speaker 2: of the day. If you're sitting out there in the country,
- 2:19Speaker 2: or if you're going to be standing in the line
- 2:21Speaker 2: the next couple of weeks going on Eastern holiday, you
- 2:24Speaker 2: have to stand in an airport line three or four hours. Uh,
- 2:28Speaker 2: you're not gonna be very happy. And you've got blame
- 2:30Speaker 2: the party it's in power, whether it's their fault or not.
- 2:33Speaker 2: So there's a lot of a lot of a lot
- 2:34Speaker 2: of chaos going on right today. So not being an
- 2:36Speaker 2: environment I want to be running. I think the difference
- 2:39Speaker 2: now to is people assume that the House would be
- 2:42Speaker 2: lost in the in the midterm, but now talking about
- 2:45Speaker 2: the Senate being lost, and I don't know, I'm not
- 2:47Speaker 2: going to concede that at this point in time. But
- 2:49Speaker 2: it's a very very unhappy place to be a member
- 2:52Speaker 2: of Congress today.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Okay, but this election is like seven eight months awake,
- 2:56Speaker 1: is it really does? I mean, everything's going to change
- 3:00Speaker 1: it now it gets set.
- 3:02Speaker 2: What happens is it gets set. Uh. And the reality
- 3:05Speaker 2: is you've got to do a lot of stuff in
- 3:07Speaker 2: the year out for an election, and it's uh, you know,
- 3:11Speaker 2: people don't wait to the last three weeks to make
- 3:13Speaker 2: up their mind. In this particular case, you've got to
- 3:16Speaker 2: have organization, You've got to have a variety of things.
- 3:18Speaker 2: So I would say at this point in time, as
- 3:22Speaker 2: someone that's run a lot of congressional races, run the
- 3:24Speaker 2: Congressional Committee, and run the White House political operation, this
- 3:27Speaker 2: is not this is not a good good day for
- 3:30Speaker 2: uh especially yes, whatever takes to say. Now, the good
- 3:36Speaker 2: news is the president still strong in the party and
- 3:40Speaker 2: he basically has raised a tremendous amount of money and
- 3:45Speaker 2: it's spent well, and they certainly can make it to
- 3:48Speaker 2: make it closer that people think today, Hey.
- 3:51Speaker 1: When you raise all this money, you're right, the rnc's
- 3:54Speaker 1: raised a lot more money than the Dancy. When you
- 3:55Speaker 1: got all this money, what do you do with it?
- 3:57Speaker 1: TV commercials aren't the thing anymore? How do you spend it?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Now? Well, grass roots is a very important and you
- 4:06Speaker 2: need to go out and identify your voter and make
- 4:07Speaker 2: sure that they're voting because traditionally in the midterm election
- 4:11Speaker 2: people don't care, and we need to go out and
- 4:13Speaker 2: identify our voters and make sure that they turn out
- 4:16Speaker 2: on election there.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So, yeah, speaking of Marjorie Tailor Green you mentioned her.
- 4:24Speaker 1: These nutty characters in Congress, aoc elon Omar marjor retailer,
- 4:28Speaker 1: these really nutty types. If you went back to the
- 4:30Speaker 1: Reagan days, you didn't see a bunch of wackos in Congress,
- 4:33Speaker 1: did you. This is like a new phenomenon, isn't it.
- 4:36Speaker 2: It's much much newer phenomenon, and equally is important because
- 4:39Speaker 2: they have vehicles now, you know, you've got the Internet
- 4:42Speaker 2: and all of various entities that you have that you
- 4:44Speaker 2: can be in nuts and get a lot of attention.
- 4:47Speaker 2: The most significant people today are not TV commentators or
- 4:51Speaker 2: radio commentators. It's these people that have these massive, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 2: abilities go communicate to h different different votors. So but
- 5:03Speaker 2: nut bars that come forth and have and find other
- 5:06Speaker 2: nut bars to stuff.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So, hey, this crazy mayor in New York now he's
- 5:11Speaker 1: talking about in the crazy left wing city Council. They're
- 5:15Speaker 1: talking about raising the minimum wage to thirty dollars that's
- 5:17Speaker 1: almost double. Wouldn't that cause a lot of people to
- 5:20Speaker 1: get fired? Companies will go with less people.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And absolutely it would. It would put a tremendous burden
- 5:26Speaker 2: on the restaurants and hotels and people that need services
- 5:31Speaker 2: in my sense, if you raise it at thirty dollars,
- 5:34Speaker 2: you're going to basically paint the city on.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Yeah, they do that stuff, you know when they do
- 5:42Speaker 1: that stuff in San Francisco, that kind of stuff, companies
- 5:45Speaker 1: just close up and leave, all the chains leave, and
- 5:47Speaker 1: you got empty stores everywhere.
- 5:49Speaker 2: But you got empty stores everywhere. And you know New
- 5:52Speaker 2: York occausey is the international capital, the world financial capital.
- 5:56Speaker 2: But it would not be a good good thing for
- 5:59Speaker 2: him to do. It wouldn't be good for the city.
- 6:00Speaker 2: It wouldn't be good for those of us who live
- 6:02Speaker 2: in the city.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So, yeah, but could you explain this democratic mentality to us?
- 6:06Speaker 1: They do it a thousand times, it fails a thousand times,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and they keep proposing it again. Don't they ever learn
- 6:12Speaker 1: their lessons?
- 6:12Speaker 2: It's what it's what they fundamentally believe that we are
- 6:16Speaker 2: so polarized as as two philosophies Republicans and Democrats. Uh.
- 6:20Speaker 2: You know, we believe in lower taxes. We believe in
- 6:23Speaker 2: more effective business is being run and smaller. Uh. And
- 6:27Speaker 2: and businesses should be great jobs and not governments. Democrats
- 6:32Speaker 2: obviously are the opposite point of view. It's just they
- 6:36Speaker 2: don't they don't slow down the spending. They basically there's
- 6:39Speaker 2: you know, revenue shortfalls everywhere, but no one is cut
- 6:42Speaker 2: No one is recommending cutting money from the states or cities.
- 6:47Speaker 2: They want to spend more and in the in the
- 6:49Speaker 2: in the day. It doesn't work.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yeah, ed, great, great, great.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Stuff has never worked anywhere.
- 6:55Speaker 1: So all right, well, thanks thanks for talking with us.
