- 0:12Speaker 1: This is the Wheel of Time spoilers podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I was gonna say, speaking of money, Matt is gambling.
- 0:26Speaker 3: All right, we've got ten minutes of preamble. Let's start
- 0:29Speaker 3: the episode proper. This is our first recording back in
- 0:33Speaker 3: twenty twenty six.
- 0:34Speaker 2: First recording back after break. Yeah, welcome back, and we're
- 0:37Speaker 2: starting off with a bang.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yes, yes we are. We are starting up with an
- 0:40Speaker 3: action scene to get your twenty twenty six so fright.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I hope that y'all enjoyed the taste of the podcast
- 0:46Speaker 3: at Donut Podcasts that came across your feed to absorb
- 0:49Speaker 3: some of the holiday break. People in life haven't heard
- 0:52Speaker 3: it yet because I haven't released it yet, but don't
- 0:54Speaker 3: tell them that.
- 0:55Speaker 2: But since this is all on delay.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I hope y'all enjoyed that, and I hope you'll be
- 0:59Speaker 3: joining us over on the podcast at donut feed. That's
- 1:02Speaker 3: where those episodes will be in the future.
- 1:04Speaker 2: We're having a lot of fun with those.
- 1:06Speaker 3: We are having a lot of fun with those, but
- 1:08Speaker 3: for now we get one of them more exciting. I'm
- 1:11Speaker 3: glad Sanderson wrote it kind of scenes. We've been waiting
- 1:14Speaker 3: for this for a long time. There's a whole article
- 1:17Speaker 3: written about how to kill a goalam that does include
- 1:19Speaker 3: this solution. We are at Matt kills the Golom. That's
- 1:24Speaker 3: what's happening, all right.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I have to read some of the fifty ways to
- 1:28Speaker 2: Kill a Goalam article, right, because this came out I
- 1:31Speaker 2: want to say originally in like two thousand. No, this
- 1:34Speaker 2: is update in twenty ten. I don't know when this
- 1:37Speaker 2: originally came out.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I feel like I remember reading it before this scene
- 1:41Speaker 3: was written. I feel like I do recall at one
- 1:44Speaker 3: of my very brief forays into what existed with the
- 1:46Speaker 3: Wheel of Time. ID like, I didn't engage with the fandom,
- 1:48Speaker 3: but I did occasionally poke the internet to see what happened.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I read articles on thirteenth Depository now and then, and
- 1:53Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure I remember reading this before the Golomb
- 1:56Speaker 3: got killed, because I remember how that feeling of like wow, wow,
- 2:00Speaker 3: that's a lot of different options, Like I wonder if
- 2:02Speaker 3: this is like, surely they're going to kill it one
- 2:04Speaker 3: of these, I feel like, so it has to be
- 2:06Speaker 3: from four a long time ago.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So you know, basically the first thing they say is like,
- 2:11Speaker 2: it's the medallion, right, and they're because there's a little
- 2:14Speaker 2: bit of an argument about is it the silver or
- 2:15Speaker 2: is it the fact that in the gates flows, And
- 2:17Speaker 2: it's clearly it's in the gates flows, so they're like,
- 2:19Speaker 2: maybe you just use the medallion.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Matt's strategy at the end of the thing, like I
- 2:23Speaker 3: was just going to stuff it down the thing's throat
- 2:25Speaker 3: and stee So that's try number.
- 2:27Speaker 2: One, number one, that's right, number one. Yeah, And then
- 2:29Speaker 2: there's just a big big thing about arguing about maybe
- 2:32Speaker 2: it's the silver and if it is silver, maybe you
- 2:33Speaker 2: can bury it in silver, and that it's not silver, right.
- 2:36Speaker 3: This isn't actually a vampire.
- 2:37Speaker 2: No. No. Number two, knock it into a gateway, right,
- 2:42Speaker 2: Like that is the second once you get past the medallion,
- 2:45Speaker 2: is what you do it? Presumably you could kill it
- 2:48Speaker 2: like shadowspawn don't survive gateway. So the assumption was if
- 2:52Speaker 2: you push it through a gateway, it would die instantly. Sure,
- 2:55Speaker 2: And that's where a goal is a little bit different, right,
- 2:58Speaker 2: because a goal is closer to an o gear.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Right, There are construct not inherently in evil twisted thing
- 3:05Speaker 3: that only the dark One could have created.
- 3:07Speaker 2: So in a lot of ways they seem more pure
- 3:11Speaker 2: in terms of the one power, right, They're not like
- 3:14Speaker 2: corrupted souls forced into a body the way the shadow
- 3:17Speaker 2: spawn are.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Right, they're neutral alignment that happened to be deployed for
- 3:21Speaker 3: evil in this case, but it's not intrinsic to their
- 3:23Speaker 3: nature like a trolic.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And then but they dismissed that because they said, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 2: we just assume a gateway would unravel the second a goal.
- 3:29Speaker 3: And touched it, which also doesn't happen.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Which also doesn't happen. So there's a couple of assumptions
- 3:34Speaker 2: that Matt makes that work for him. One that pushing
- 3:37Speaker 2: it through the gateway won't kill it, which doesn't because
- 3:41Speaker 2: he has a backup plan. But also the fact that like, yeah,
- 3:44Speaker 2: the gateway is going to work. Even the gold can
- 3:45Speaker 2: pass through it because it's not touching the mechanics of
- 3:48Speaker 2: the gateway.
- 3:49Speaker 3: So I wonder, then if it did put his hand
- 3:51Speaker 3: on the side of the gateway, if it would cut
- 3:54Speaker 3: his hand off, or if he would proof it out
- 3:56Speaker 3: of existence.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Right right, because then you know what, could you cut
- 4:00Speaker 2: him in half of the gateway? Probably not right right?
- 4:03Speaker 3: And if the gateway vanished, then that would have left
- 4:06Speaker 3: the Jamaico stranded and falling forever right on the other side.
- 4:10Speaker 3: That would have sucked. But no one ever tries touching
- 4:12Speaker 3: the side of a gateway.
- 4:14Speaker 2: No, well, as you passed through it, I imagine it's
- 4:16Speaker 2: just razor sharp, right, like you just cut yourself on.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well and for normal people. But I just
- 4:21Speaker 3: wonder how the golom would interact with it. Would it
- 4:23Speaker 3: just evaporate like a bubble at his touch?
- 4:26Speaker 2: So more bright ideas indirect effects, basically squishing it with
- 4:29Speaker 2: an anvil, maybe the T one thousand effect, drop it
- 4:34Speaker 2: in a volcano, see if that like, if it can melt.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Probably probably. I think it'd be hard for him to
- 4:40Speaker 3: reconstitute himself if he was stuck in a lava lake.
- 4:43Speaker 2: One of these days, I'm going to cut you into
- 4:44Speaker 2: little pieces, basically dismantling it into enough small pieces that
- 4:48Speaker 2: you know, because here he cuts the fingers off. He's like,
- 4:50Speaker 2: that'll probably slow him down. But the speculation is that
- 4:53Speaker 2: he would flow back together kind of like again T
- 4:55Speaker 2: one thousand, right, the liquid metal like, they might slow
- 4:58Speaker 2: him down, but he probably isn't gonna Those pieces can
- 5:00Speaker 2: probably rejoin with him, but we're not sure about that.
- 5:02Speaker 3: That's why I think the squishing won't work either. It's
- 5:05Speaker 3: like I feel like, because he's not He's not an
- 5:08Speaker 3: animal construct of bones and sinews and muscles and fluids.
- 5:12Speaker 3: He's just a solid material through and through that can
- 5:14Speaker 3: morph to look like a human.
- 5:16Speaker 2: So even though kicking him in the balls works so well, he.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Still has a diaphragum. I don't think.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah, blowing him up with gunpowder.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I don't. I don't think this articulation is
- 5:30Speaker 3: the answer. Maybe if you take like a thousand pieces
- 5:33Speaker 3: to a thousand different locations, hundreds of miles apart.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Maybe starving it to death, basically capturing it in something
- 5:39Speaker 2: it can't escape from and letting it slowly starve to
- 5:42Speaker 2: death over time. In some ways, that's probably what's going
- 5:45Speaker 2: to kill it, right, like as it falls.
- 5:48Speaker 3: If it can die of starvation, that will ultimately be
- 5:51Speaker 3: what kills.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It, which I think it can. They need to eat, right,
- 5:53Speaker 2: they need to eat to survive.
- 5:55Speaker 3: He does say a bird must fly, a fish must swim,
- 5:57Speaker 3: I must feed. That does imply that it's not about pleasures,
- 6:00Speaker 3: about sustenance or I must kill whatever.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And then there's a whole thing about gateways, right open
- 6:06Speaker 2: a gateway to some if it can pass through a gateway. Right,
- 6:09Speaker 2: there's the same. Assuming you can't pass their gateway, here's
- 6:11Speaker 2: some things. Just get rid of it. Open a gateway
- 6:13Speaker 2: to somewhere really far away. Okay, I just can't get.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Through right, drop in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Ru yeah, like, and it can't get back. Open the
- 6:21Speaker 2: gateway to the skimming place, shove the goal through and
- 6:23Speaker 2: close the gateway. Boom boom done exactly what happened far
- 6:27Speaker 2: from the matting crowd. Open a gateway to farm Matting
- 6:30Speaker 2: and send the goal on through. And assuming it's in
- 6:32Speaker 2: a location where it negates all magic, would that not
- 6:35Speaker 2: fuck him up?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Okay? I am intrigued by that one. I am intrigued.
- 6:40Speaker 3: How the guardians would handle the goal on that is
- 6:43Speaker 3: a very interesting question.
- 6:45Speaker 2: And also how the guardians would handle a gateway opening
- 6:47Speaker 2: into Farmatting.
- 6:48Speaker 3: You could open the gateway over Farmatting and drop him
- 6:51Speaker 3: down through.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Perhaps the aerospace bubble.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Humh yeah, how would I bet you couldn't open a
- 6:59Speaker 3: gateway there? I bet it would like trying to open
- 7:00Speaker 3: one to ruddy in or something.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Mm see, I think you can because you can use well,
- 7:04Speaker 2: so as long as you have access to power, you
- 7:07Speaker 2: can do whatever you want. All it does is block
- 7:09Speaker 2: your access to the one power. And if you're doing
- 7:11Speaker 2: something like rand could bailfire it from outside. Why couldn't
- 7:14Speaker 2: you open a gateway from outside if that's your destination?
- 7:17Speaker 3: How does trans But then you're magically transiting into the space.
- 7:21Speaker 3: So is that gonna like matter anti matter like?
- 7:25Speaker 2: But again, it doesn't stop magic. It just stops people
- 7:28Speaker 2: from embracing it.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Right right, Which then with that even effect that Golam says,
- 7:32Speaker 3: the golomb is not a person embracing magic. The golamb
- 7:35Speaker 3: is magic.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Right right right, It's not negating. Isn't that magical? Like
- 7:38Speaker 2: because you can Yeah, it's not a negating magic at all.
- 7:41Speaker 3: And yeah, it's not male or female magic. It's just
- 7:44Speaker 3: pure power. Right, So it might do nothing.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't h I think it would do nothing.
- 7:49Speaker 3: But the formatting people deserve some chaos. I don't know,
- 7:54Speaker 3: they don't really their leaders suck. That's it.
- 7:56Speaker 2: And then here I like this solution open a gateway
- 7:59Speaker 2: to the middle of volcano problem, how would you keep
- 8:02Speaker 2: the lava from coming out of the gateway, which I
- 8:04Speaker 2: think is a fun for andrawl in the last battle. Yeah, exactly,
- 8:12Speaker 2: not necessarily a GOLM solution, but definitely something from that
- 8:15Speaker 2: they gets used in real time.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, but then, yeah, the solution is to just open
- 8:18Speaker 3: the gateway horizontally over the lava lake and let gravity
- 8:22Speaker 3: do the work.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And then there's just like variations on opening a gateway
- 8:26Speaker 2: to somewhere space under the ocean in a lava you know,
- 8:31Speaker 2: without the planet on the moon, right, Yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 3: All of the problems with the pressure of management, but
- 8:36Speaker 3: still like, yeah, one assumes that the golum cannot survive
- 8:39Speaker 3: the vacuum of space for very long.
- 8:40Speaker 2: No, I'm not sure that was fifty ways to kill
- 8:43Speaker 2: a golam, but that is what the title of the
- 8:44Speaker 2: article is titled. But that's the sort of the list
- 8:47Speaker 2: of ideas.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I'm surprised that the ways were not included in that.
- 8:52Speaker 3: I feel like hucking him off the side of the
- 8:54Speaker 3: pathways and the ways would work too, because it's basically
- 8:56Speaker 3: the skimming space.
- 8:57Speaker 2: There's just so many ways to kill things. Will I'm just.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Saying it's the same space. Basically, you could go into
- 9:03Speaker 3: the ways. You don't have to have a gateway, but
- 9:06Speaker 3: it would involve convincing the goal to walk into the
- 9:08Speaker 3: ways on its own power and then picking it up
- 9:11Speaker 3: and throwing it over the side, which would be a
- 9:13Speaker 3: lot harder, but I think that would work too.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I agree with that. I'm trying to think
- 9:18Speaker 2: of other power rot things we've seen throw them in
- 9:22Speaker 2: a pool of pure sidine.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I wonder if you could uh make a blade, one
- 9:30Speaker 3: of the one of the merdraw blades with a goalomb.
- 9:34Speaker 3: I wonder if it's got enough like sentient soul qualities
- 9:38Speaker 3: that you could do the thing where they have to
- 9:40Speaker 3: kill someone in order to make the blade all work.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I've been real listening to the Lord of Chaos and
- 9:46Speaker 3: re listen to that scene obviously.
- 9:47Speaker 2: So the way it sucks them in, Yeah, I.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Wonder if I wonder if running a golumb through with
- 9:53Speaker 3: a Mergerll sword as part of the construction process would
- 9:56Speaker 3: actually do it damage in a way that a normal sword,
- 9:59Speaker 3: even a power route sword would not, or if it
- 10:02Speaker 3: would just you know, laugh at that like every other
- 10:04Speaker 3: thing you can stick through their body.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know how sold they are, right, they
- 10:09Speaker 2: seem sold enough. Like again, I can sort of compare
- 10:11Speaker 2: them to O gear right to nim or not oh
- 10:13Speaker 2: gear green I keep saying, oh, Gear green Men.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Yeah, the nim and others. Yeah, who are bigger yet
- 10:20Speaker 3: than the O Gear if I'm recalling correctly, Yeah, the world.
- 10:25Speaker 3: He's like a freaking actual tree compared to m Yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 3: that's a definitely pretty comprehensive I wonder if being in
- 10:33Speaker 3: the middle of a magic explosion like what Elaine did
- 10:36Speaker 3: with the Gateway would cause harm to.
- 10:38Speaker 2: A go on.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Being in the middle of an uncontrolled backlash like.
- 10:41Speaker 2: That, yeah, because that feels like an effect, right, that
- 10:44Speaker 2: doesn't feel like magic. That feels like an effect of
- 10:46Speaker 2: the magic. And so but again, like.
- 10:48Speaker 3: If you mishandled a trunk reall and it blew up
- 10:50Speaker 3: or something.
- 10:51Speaker 2: All right, want me to just pull up the name
- 10:54Speaker 2: for a fan of really quick.
- 10:56Speaker 3: But yeah, we know that there is one way of
- 11:00Speaker 3: killing a golump that does work, and it is on
- 11:02Speaker 3: that list. It is what Matt does, and it is
- 11:05Speaker 3: what the chapter we are doing today entirely revolves around.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Spoilers.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Yeah, have you seen the name of this podcast?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Does your podcast have spoilers for the entire series? Yes?
- 11:18Speaker 2: All right, so we've got three fan names here at
- 11:21Speaker 2: the beginning, three characters based on fans We've got Riddle
- 11:26Speaker 2: is based on Michael Riddle, a fan of the Wheel
- 11:28Speaker 2: of Time. We've got Sadler is named for Michael Sadler,
- 11:34Speaker 2: a fan of the Wheel of Time. And Snell, whose
- 11:38Speaker 2: name for Michael Snell, a fan of the Wheel of Time.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I see what you did there, Brandon. You took three
- 11:43Speaker 2: Michaels and you put them together in one scene using
- 11:47Speaker 2: just their last names.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Wow. He's just like, these are the Michaels, These are
- 11:51Speaker 3: the Michaels, These are the Michaels. And never trusted Michael.
- 11:58Speaker 3: This is also the chap in which we have him
- 12:02Speaker 3: Innkeeper Hatch of the Dusty Stas.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yes, I was going to bring that up. Boy got there. Yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 2: very much.
- 12:06Speaker 3: A real person who we have hung out with and
- 12:09Speaker 3: has a YouTube show and all of that jazz.
- 12:11Speaker 2: And is currently as far as i'm were employed by
- 12:14Speaker 2: Brandon Sanderson. He's he works for Dragon Steel. Now.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Oh, I hadn't heard that. Good for him. That's awesome.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I know he's he's officially like I don't know,
- 12:23Speaker 2: outreach or something like that. I don't know that.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Wow. The way that the spirals just keep on spiraling,
- 12:29Speaker 3: that's an amazing community.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Twist well and Matt Hatch you know, he was he
- 12:34Speaker 2: was head of theory Land for a long time. He
- 12:36Speaker 2: was there. He was consulted when these books were being made,
- 12:39Speaker 2: you know, as part part of writing these books, right,
- 12:41Speaker 2: he was. He was a beta reader when they were
- 12:43Speaker 2: coming out. He was giving feedback like he has been,
- 12:46Speaker 2: you know, sort of the number one fan of Wheel
- 12:50Speaker 2: of Time for quite some time and then creating the
- 12:53Speaker 2: Dusty Wheel and that whole YouTube phenomenon that has taken off,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and you know, and Wakan is a big part.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Know.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I know, it's a lot of name Liss say his
- 13:03Speaker 2: real name. Uh, that's trying not to and uh yeah
- 13:07Speaker 2: and Matt Hatch, right, the two of them, but a
- 13:09Speaker 2: lot of that is Matt Hatch and his ability to
- 13:11Speaker 2: organize and entertain.
- 13:14Speaker 3: So yeah, I know he is a true entertainer mc innkeeper,
- 13:19Speaker 3: Like the vibe is so true that that just makes
- 13:22Speaker 3: me so happy and fuzzy to know that that's just
- 13:24Speaker 3: continuing to the obsession with Wheel of Time is continuing
- 13:28Speaker 3: to pay dividends for people in our community. That's very cool. Yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 3: this is this is the Dusty Wheel of Like, hey,
- 13:34Speaker 3: I know that guy.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, the Rumor Wheel, and I was like, hey,
- 13:37Speaker 2: that's a little but I didn't realize you were in
- 13:39Speaker 2: renaming it the rumor Wheel.
- 13:40Speaker 3: I know, right, And that's the little opening song for
- 13:44Speaker 3: the channel is something if you want rumors and appeal,
- 13:49Speaker 3: Welcome to the Dusty Wheel. So you know, there's there's
- 13:53Speaker 3: a lot of mutual winking and nodding happening here.
- 13:57Speaker 2: But I mean, how much was theory Land the original?
- 14:00Speaker 2: Like I mean, back when the Internet was first going
- 14:03Speaker 2: on and fandoms were first coming up, and there weren't
- 14:07Speaker 2: you know, TV shows didn't quite have the shall we
- 14:10Speaker 2: say plot that was worth speculating about, right, They were
- 14:13Speaker 2: all very simple and episodic, right, Like what we speculated
- 14:16Speaker 2: about on the Internet was books. Wheel of Time was
- 14:20Speaker 2: one of the first books that was speculated about at length,
- 14:22Speaker 2: you know, And like now, internet speculation and fandom is
- 14:25Speaker 2: this huge, huge thing, and like Matt Hatch and the
- 14:28Speaker 2: Dusty Wheel and theory Land were right there at the
- 14:32Speaker 2: beginning of it.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember stumbling across theory Land the second that
- 14:36Speaker 3: I poked my head up looking for a fandom at all,
- 14:38Speaker 3: and I never really engaged much, but it was like, okay,
- 14:41Speaker 3: so there's theory Land and thirteenth Depository and maybe something
- 14:46Speaker 3: else somewhere like it's yeah, soog soog, and.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I read the Wheel of Time FAQ. But the Wheel
- 14:53Speaker 2: of Time FAQ was one hundred percent distilled theory Land.
- 14:57Speaker 2: That's what they probably when they got done having all
- 14:59Speaker 2: the formed discussions they published there, just they wrote it
- 15:02Speaker 2: up and put it on the.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Faq fack and Encyclopedia Watt.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Encyclopedia Wat. I didn't discover until later, but I've used
- 15:09Speaker 2: that extensively during the recording of this podcast. That's my
- 15:12Speaker 2: one of my favorite favorite sites now because it's very
- 15:15Speaker 2: much like this is what happened in each chapter. These
- 15:18Speaker 2: are the characters who are there. No you know, X,
- 15:21Speaker 2: Y and Z happened, no judgment, no speculation, and incredible accuracy. Right.
- 15:26Speaker 2: That's the other thing is like the Wikipedia not as
- 15:29Speaker 2: accurate as Encyclopedia Watt.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Yeah, which is appropriate for a thing that calls itself wiki. Right,
- 15:35Speaker 3: But yeah, that's a Our fantom is full of a
- 15:38Speaker 3: bunch of nerds. And like the older we get, the
- 15:40Speaker 3: more serious skill sets we have, and the more experienced
- 15:43Speaker 3: we have, just the more our collected body of knowledge
- 15:47Speaker 3: gets refined and turned into this massive, constructive nerdom, just
- 15:52Speaker 3: just massive.
- 15:53Speaker 2: The other character we have in this opening is Katty.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I didn't have any references to her, see if that
- 15:58Speaker 2: was and see her aimed after anybody, but also only
- 16:01Speaker 2: appears to be the only time she appears.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Well, I guess she's just the person.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Just a person. I guess I should read us in.
- 16:08Speaker 3: This is way too much of an action chapter not
- 16:10Speaker 3: to read in.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, right, right right, We've.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Been going off for a while, but we'll do a
- 16:14Speaker 3: read in anyway.
- 16:15Speaker 2: It's probably gonna be a fair amount of reading in
- 16:17Speaker 2: this chapter, just because like action scenes, right, that's what happened.
- 16:20Speaker 2: It's one thing to say about this chapter. I blame anime,
- 16:24Speaker 2: and I'm not mad about it. I'm not mad about.
- 16:26Speaker 3: It, but yes, I agree, strong agree, very very Anime.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Chapter thirty one Into the Void. Our symbol are the
- 16:33Speaker 2: dice because it's a Matt chapter and the void is
- 16:36Speaker 2: where the vulom goes. Matt dumped the rest of the
- 16:40Speaker 2: wine into his mouth, savoring the sweet, cool taste. He
- 16:43Speaker 2: brought the cup down and tossed a handful of dice.
- 16:46Speaker 2: They tumbled to the wooden floor of the tavern, clacking
- 16:49Speaker 2: against one another. Wait, you're throwing dice on the floor
- 16:52Speaker 2: on a table. It's not a bending over.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, m okay.
- 16:59Speaker 2: The air was thick, thick with sounds, thick with curses,
- 17:02Speaker 2: thick with scents, smoke, pungent liquors, a steak that had
- 17:06Speaker 2: been peppered so much that you could hardly taste the
- 17:08Speaker 2: meat that was probably for the best. Even in Camlin,
- 17:12Speaker 2: meat spoiled unpredictably. The pungent men around Matt watched his
- 17:15Speaker 2: dice fall. One of the men stank of garlic, another
- 17:19Speaker 2: of sweat, a third of a tannery. Their hair was stringy,
- 17:22Speaker 2: their fingers were grimy, but their coin was good. The
- 17:25Speaker 2: game was called Corono's Spit and hailed from Shinar. Matt
- 17:30Speaker 2: did not know the rules. Five ones. The man who stank, said,
- 17:35Speaker 2: the man who stank of garlic. His name was Riddle.
- 17:37Speaker 2: He seemed unsettled. That's a loss. No, it's not, Matt
- 17:42Speaker 2: said softly. Never mind that he did not know the rules.
- 17:45Speaker 2: He knew he'd won. He could feel his luck was
- 17:47Speaker 2: with him. Good thing too, He needed it tonight.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Just Matt matting as hard as Matt has ever matted.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah, just like I don't need to know the rules
- 17:56Speaker 2: of a game to know if I won. That's how
- 17:58Speaker 2: much his luck is just like it tells him he's right.
- 18:00Speaker 2: It's like your luck's in, you're gonna win that role.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Yeah, he's like, I know a win when I have one.
- 18:05Speaker 3: That's just a thing that I do. I drink and
- 18:07Speaker 3: I know that I win.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Right, And there's a whole thing where he's like standing
- 18:12Speaker 2: up and he's like, hey, everybody, like anybody wanted to
- 18:14Speaker 2: tell me the rules of this game and confirm that
- 18:16Speaker 2: I won. And the guy's like, fine, you want.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Yeah, he's doing this whole it's almost like pool sharking,
- 18:24Speaker 3: but his actual target is the go along like everyone
- 18:27Speaker 3: is the game where but he's playing like almost like
- 18:30Speaker 3: a pool shark within the game.
- 18:32Speaker 2: And isn't he winning with weighted dice that they're supposed
- 18:34Speaker 2: to make him lose?
- 18:35Speaker 3: No, they were playing with weighted dice that were supposed
- 18:38Speaker 3: to make him lose, right right, Oh right, yeah he
- 18:41Speaker 3: was playing. Yes, yes, he was twisting their weighted dice
- 18:44Speaker 3: as one does, because that's what he does. And yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 3: he's he does this whole thing where he like takes
- 18:50Speaker 3: off his scarf then puts the scarf on, it takes up.
- 18:54Speaker 3: I don't know, he's doing a lot of very elaborate
- 18:57Speaker 3: costume changes in front of everyone to make sure that
- 18:59Speaker 3: everyone one knows that the one eyed gambler with the
- 19:03Speaker 3: cool hat and the pointy stick of doom is in town.
- 19:06Speaker 3: He's just really hamming it up super hard. That's bait, right,
- 19:10Speaker 3: Like yeah, uh huh, it screams bait. And like the
- 19:13Speaker 3: way the Golom shouldn't have taken this bait because it
- 19:15Speaker 3: was so obvious. It's like he I think the reason
- 19:18Speaker 3: is that the goal I'm underestimates all of Matt's allies
- 19:21Speaker 3: and Matt himself because it's it's too much, Matt. This
- 19:25Speaker 3: is not subtle. This looks like bait. This looks like
- 19:27Speaker 3: you have a trap setup, in my personal opinion.
- 19:30Speaker 2: And then I love reading into this description of the
- 19:32Speaker 2: dusty Wheel. Yeah, the inn had walls dark from years
- 19:36Speaker 2: of men smoking pipes inside it, and the windows, though
- 19:38Speaker 2: a fine glass, had grown opake with dirt and smoke.
- 19:41Speaker 2: It was tradition that they never be cleaned. And I
- 19:44Speaker 2: just wonder if that's like we keep archives of all
- 19:46Speaker 2: like the debates and stuff like that. You know, just
- 19:49Speaker 2: like the constant like being inside the forums and just
- 19:52Speaker 2: talking over and over all the smoke and soot that's
- 19:56Speaker 2: on the windows that we never clean.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Like we've gone over this territory of part times and
- 20:00Speaker 3: we'll do it a billion times more. And don't you
- 20:03Speaker 3: dare shut us down from going into do does the
- 20:07Speaker 3: mun powers stop periods or not? Like we will cover
- 20:10Speaker 3: this territory again.
- 20:12Speaker 2: The weathered sign up front had a wagon wheel painted
- 20:14Speaker 2: on it. The official name was the dusty Wheel. Everyone
- 20:18Speaker 2: called it the rumor wheel instead. It was the best
- 20:20Speaker 2: place in Camlin to listen to rumors. Most of them
- 20:22Speaker 2: were untrue, but that was half the fun.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Looney theories, baby, that's looney theories right there. Like half
- 20:29Speaker 3: the shit we say makes no sense is literally a
- 20:32Speaker 3: looney theory cannot be true and literally that's that's why wether,
- 20:36Speaker 3: that's half the fun is just being like, now you're wrong,
- 20:39Speaker 3: and this is why.
- 20:40Speaker 2: That is a paragraph dedicated to the fandom.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Yeah I feel seen. I do feel seen.
- 20:46Speaker 2: So the next like two pages is him like proving
- 20:48Speaker 2: that he won, right, Like I don't have a lot
- 20:50Speaker 2: for that.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's the it's the peacocking. I was talking
- 20:53Speaker 3: about he's just peacock and real hard for the sake
- 20:56Speaker 3: of catching the golums, we're really catching the eye of
- 20:59Speaker 3: every spy who is ultimately reporting back to the Goup.
- 21:03Speaker 2: And then I'll read the next paragraph that references Matt
- 21:06Speaker 2: Hatch himself. Matt left a golden crown on the edge
- 21:08Speaker 2: of the bar, then tipped his hat to Hatch. The
- 21:10Speaker 2: innkeeper also named.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Matt with two t's though.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yes, the two d's. The man stood behind the bar
- 21:16Speaker 2: wiping her glass, his wife next to him. She was
- 21:19Speaker 2: a pretty one, but Hatch kept a special cudgel for
- 21:22Speaker 2: thumping men who looked too long. Matt gave her only
- 21:25Speaker 2: a short look then. So yeah, I just love that
- 21:30Speaker 2: reference to the real world's people and having hung out
- 21:33Speaker 2: with Matt Hatch and knowing Matt Hatch and seeing all
- 21:34Speaker 2: his work on the Dusty Wheel, and it's just nice
- 21:36Speaker 2: to see a lit tribute to him here. Yeah, for sure,
- 21:39Speaker 2: more so than I feel like all the other names
- 21:41Speaker 2: that like the people who got named dropped for donating, Like,
- 21:43Speaker 2: I get that that is a reward and it's fun,
- 21:46Speaker 2: but to me that feels forced in a way that
- 21:49Speaker 2: this doesn't. This feels natural and like an actual love
- 21:52Speaker 2: letter as opposed to naming random characters you're gonna kill off.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Well, I mean, as you said, like, Matt Hatch is
- 22:00Speaker 3: a very singular figure in the fandom and in the
- 22:04Speaker 3: community and in possibly even the wider shape of how
- 22:07Speaker 3: fandoms online can look. So he deserves a little bit
- 22:12Speaker 3: more of an impassioned, organic love letter insertion than just
- 22:17Speaker 3: and then name drop because there were brackets there.
- 22:20Speaker 2: So Matt leaves and the dice stopped thundering in his
- 22:23Speaker 2: head because he's made some basically, he's inevitable confrontation with
- 22:26Speaker 2: the goal at this point.
- 22:28Speaker 3: I think also it might be that the golamb has
- 22:30Speaker 3: decided that because like Matt worries, like, maybe the goal's
- 22:33Speaker 3: not going to take the bait. Like if the dice
- 22:35Speaker 3: have stopped, I think that means the golum has decided
- 22:37Speaker 3: he's taking the bait.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yes, and you put yourself in a situation where he
- 22:40Speaker 2: can get to you.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Right, It's like, yes, you have tipped yourself off the
- 22:45Speaker 3: starter or the starting position of the roller coaster, and
- 22:48Speaker 3: the ride is now inevitable. Even though you haven't reached
- 22:50Speaker 3: the conclusion yet, it is inevitable that you will get there.
- 23:07Speaker 2: So he heads out ties his medallion to the Ashendar, right,
- 23:10Speaker 2: and I assume this is the original medallion. I don't.
- 23:14Speaker 2: He doesn't specify which one's the original.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I assume that he gives the original that pride
- 23:20Speaker 3: of place around his neck and he's not swapping it
- 23:24Speaker 3: out with, you know, one of the replacements, because even
- 23:26Speaker 3: though he doesn't really care about the other attributes that
- 23:28Speaker 3: Aline cares about, it is still the original, like there's
- 23:32Speaker 3: a special you know, bond there with your jewelry.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Also, you know, he can't be sure the copies are
- 23:37Speaker 2: going to be effective until they actually.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Work, right, Right, he's banking on it, but truly he
- 23:43Speaker 3: doesn't know.
- 23:43Speaker 2: So the next couple pages he's basically wandering around. He's
- 23:48Speaker 2: got his Band of the Red Hand shadowing him.
- 23:51Speaker 3: And he gets attacked four times by different street thugs.
- 23:54Speaker 3: We're gonna do dark friendship, We're gonna get him, and
- 23:56Speaker 3: it totally doesn't work. But this is all preamble to
- 24:00Speaker 3: the actual henchmen of Doom, the Golom.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Do you think these are dark friends or thieves?
- 24:07Speaker 3: I think dark friends because he was just waving his
- 24:11Speaker 3: face around so aggressively and the dark friends have been
- 24:14Speaker 3: just told on high alert, like kill this guy. So
- 24:16Speaker 3: it makes sense that it's just a bunch of low
- 24:18Speaker 3: level thugs massively overestimating their ability to take down a
- 24:23Speaker 3: literal demigod like level fifteen, Like you guys are level two,
- 24:26Speaker 3: what are you even doing right now? Level three thugs
- 24:30Speaker 3: at that.
- 24:32Speaker 2: And he's got this this group of people coming out
- 24:34Speaker 2: of the shadows to protect him, right, he's surrounded by.
- 24:36Speaker 3: He's not even fighting, right, he doesn't want to waste
- 24:39Speaker 3: his energy and potential accidents on fighting these people. They're
- 24:43Speaker 3: not even killing most of them, right, they're just showing
- 24:45Speaker 3: them off. They don't even have to kill anyone till
- 24:47Speaker 3: the last fight.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, because the last time, the first few
- 24:51Speaker 2: times they realized they're not classed and run away, and
- 24:53Speaker 2: the last time they fight and they kill.
- 24:56Speaker 3: They kill five thugs and lose nobody except one of
- 24:59Speaker 3: their own guys to an injury. Like he doesn't even
- 25:01Speaker 3: get killed. He just has to get, you know, taken
- 25:03Speaker 3: off to recuperate from getting stabbed or whatever.
- 25:06Speaker 2: And then in comes the golomb.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Oh it's such a like I can hear the like
- 25:14Speaker 3: red tailed hawk scream and the tangy guitar down, you know,
- 25:18Speaker 3: as they like square off on the street, like it's
- 25:21Speaker 3: such a Western. It's like a Western, but you're right,
- 25:23Speaker 3: it's very anime. It's just so visible.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Because you see him in the distance highlighted and you
- 25:28Speaker 2: see his outline and you can't see any features, but
- 25:30Speaker 2: by the way he stands, you know it's him. And
- 25:33Speaker 2: then he says, you think to ambush me with your
- 25:35Speaker 2: men who squish and rip and die so easily, almost
- 25:38Speaker 2: at a touch.
- 25:39Speaker 3: I'm tired of being chased. I'm gonna turn and fight you.
- 25:43Speaker 3: It's so classic and.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Like about like this is, you know, the confrontation was
- 25:47Speaker 2: so many years in the making, with the goalam coming
- 25:50Speaker 2: after Thailand and haunting him for such a long time
- 25:52Speaker 2: and the foreshadowing and everything like that, Like, uh, it's
- 25:56Speaker 2: it's a great battle to watch them go at each other.
- 25:59Speaker 3: I mean, like Nalisian's death is in many ways one
- 26:04Speaker 3: of the first like long term characters to just die,
- 26:09Speaker 3: Like basically everyone has had protection because of their proximity
- 26:13Speaker 3: to the main character. Nalisian dying is kind of a
- 26:17Speaker 3: watershed moment in like, oh, like.
- 26:19Speaker 2: You can't protect everybody people.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Close to the main characters are gonna have to die
- 26:24Speaker 3: in order to keep escalating the stakes. Then Tiland gets
- 26:27Speaker 3: killed and like she's a monarch on top of that, Like, yeah,
- 26:30Speaker 3: it's been a long time that this confrontation has been building,
- 26:33Speaker 3: and like going into it the first time, I was
- 26:37Speaker 3: like fully prepared for Matt to die, Like I don't know,
- 26:40Speaker 3: like maybe this is part of the twist for the
- 26:42Speaker 3: last battle, is we actually lose one of the three
- 26:45Speaker 3: right before? Like I did not know because because so much,
- 26:48Speaker 3: so many years of anticipating this, I just was like.
- 26:53Speaker 2: What's the point of the goal on? Is it to
- 26:54Speaker 2: kill him? Right? Like what's this confrontation? Right? Yeah? So
- 26:58Speaker 2: he burns them a little bit with the Ashondare. Then
- 27:01Speaker 2: there's another that I can tall in an anime moment before,
- 27:04Speaker 2: Matta thought this creature's face unremarkable, unremarkable, But in the
- 27:08Speaker 2: uneven light, with that smile, it took on a terrifying cast,
- 27:11Speaker 2: more angular reflected lantern light, making his eyes glow like
- 27:15Speaker 2: tiny yellow flames consumed by the darkness of its sockets.
- 27:19Speaker 2: And I'm just thinking, how many times have I seen
- 27:20Speaker 2: that anime where you have like this very normal, generic
- 27:22Speaker 2: looking character and then they do this thing where the
- 27:25Speaker 2: light hits their face weird. They put their head down,
- 27:27Speaker 2: their eyes glow and their face turns all angular and
- 27:30Speaker 2: like that's an evil dude, Like that's anime. Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 3: So basically the plan is that as soon as the
- 27:37Speaker 3: confrontation starts, the band switches from patrol duty to light
- 27:42Speaker 3: a bunch of lanterns and start evacuating people from houses.
- 27:45Speaker 3: There's this really rapid fire communication that's happening in the
- 27:48Speaker 3: background while Matt fights the goal on where they are
- 27:51Speaker 3: coordinating which building he's in, where they're gonna put this gateway.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Who's gonna do it? Like, there's a lot of moving
- 27:59Speaker 3: parts behind the scenes.
- 28:00Speaker 2: That we just don't see, right, because they couldn't guarantee
- 28:03Speaker 2: the goal was going to show up in any particular place,
- 28:05Speaker 2: so they had to basically once the goal shows up,
- 28:08Speaker 2: they have this fire plan to try and set up
- 28:11Speaker 2: a trap for him and get that ready.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Right, and they don't mean to set the building on fire,
- 28:15Speaker 3: but it works out in the end, and they have
- 28:17Speaker 3: the whole plan to you know, get civilians out of
- 28:19Speaker 3: the way so that way the golumb isn't scared off.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Who knows how many kinswomen they have on hand to
- 28:24Speaker 3: try to be able to make as many gateways as
- 28:26Speaker 3: they need to cover all the contingencies, you know.
- 28:29Speaker 2: And I liked a little bit that the only reason
- 28:30Speaker 2: he really has to even confront the goal is he
- 28:33Speaker 2: swore to stay in the city because of his oath
- 28:35Speaker 2: to Van and the fact that he won't open that
- 28:37Speaker 2: stupid letter which would save Camelin.
- 28:39Speaker 3: It is really funny how much this is just hinges
- 28:44Speaker 3: on that damn letter in him being so stubborn. On
- 28:46Speaker 3: the other hand, the golumb does have to get dealt with,
- 28:49Speaker 3: like there's no way to truly shake the golum. But yes,
- 28:52Speaker 3: it is funny that MAT's motivation comes down to his
- 28:54Speaker 3: stubborness around the letter that he would love to follow
- 28:57Speaker 3: the instructions in. If he opened that letter and Varren said,
- 29:00Speaker 3: would you please defend Camlin, He'd be like, yeah, I
- 29:03Speaker 3: mean right, like not a big deal.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Yeah, So he's fighting it. He rams the butt of
- 29:10Speaker 2: his spear between the thing's legs. It went down. Its
- 29:12Speaker 2: motions were fluid and it caught itself, but it did
- 29:14Speaker 2: go down, And I'm like, does the goal I have balls?
- 29:17Speaker 2: Is that what He's still trying to imply I.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Thought it was a tangle thing. I thought that it
- 29:21Speaker 3: was more like a stick in the spokes kind of
- 29:23Speaker 3: between the.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Him. Literally, he just literally slams it into the ramming
- 29:30Speaker 2: the butt of his spear between the thing's legs, and
- 29:32Speaker 2: it goes down. He still has the ashindare.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah, that doesn't make sense if it doesn't have balls,
- 29:38Speaker 3: it doesn't have a pelvis, and it doesn't have a
- 29:40Speaker 3: solar plexus doesn't have guts, right, what are you impacting
- 29:45Speaker 3: between its legs that is particularly impactful. Maybe he like
- 29:50Speaker 3: lifted it off the ground slightly, so it like literally
- 29:53Speaker 3: lost momentum, agreed, Ujie. The goal I had to be
- 29:59Speaker 3: killed before last battle because otherwise it could just be
- 30:01Speaker 3: essential shale gooul to kill Rand and then the whole
- 30:04Speaker 3: world is over. You cannot start the last battle unless
- 30:07Speaker 3: this fucker is off the board.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Now we do have the fact that the Dark One
- 30:11Speaker 2: didn't know when Rand was coming to shale Gooule. That
- 30:13Speaker 2: was definitely helpful with the dagger that hit him.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Yes, that helped a lot. I wonder how the goalm
- 30:18Speaker 3: would respond to the dream spike. Can it just walk
- 30:22Speaker 3: through the dream spike bubble?
- 30:24Speaker 2: I mean there's no bubble in the real world.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Ah yeah, I guess that bubble was only in the
- 30:29Speaker 3: dream world. If it was in the dream world.
- 30:32Speaker 2: And not only in the gates gateways, it doesn't have
- 30:34Speaker 2: anything to do with any other one power. I have
- 30:36Speaker 2: the feeling the goal and would be completely unaffected anyway.
- 30:39Speaker 3: I don't think anyone's taking the Goalmban until I run
- 30:41Speaker 3: riand to test this. Okay, So, yes, being hit between
- 30:45Speaker 3: the legs anachronistic to the Golomb's known anatomy.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Mm hmm. No, that that made me look at it
- 30:51Speaker 2: and go, hmmm, I feel like that shouldn't have worked.
- 30:53Speaker 2: But okay, fine, because like he's consiver, it's tendon achilles heel,
- 30:58Speaker 2: and it doesn't bother it. It doesn't have a tendon there, right,
- 31:02Speaker 2: it's just right.
- 31:02Speaker 3: He cuts the fingers off. It doesn't see. He says
- 31:04Speaker 3: it should slow it down, but we've see no evidence
- 31:06Speaker 3: that it does.
- 31:07Speaker 2: And I also fully believe that it can t one
- 31:09Speaker 2: thousand those fingers back into itself.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Absolutely absolutely, Yeah, I'm sure that tendon is healing as
- 31:15Speaker 3: fast as the blade can leave the area, you know,
- 31:17Speaker 3: Like it just doesn't have like he says, he cuts
- 31:20Speaker 3: its tendon, but like, it doesn't there's no tendon to cut.
- 31:23Speaker 3: It cut the area where the tendon would be.
- 31:25Speaker 2: The golm is made up of spongy right, Like, it's
- 31:28Speaker 2: just spongy flesh. There's nothing.
- 31:30Speaker 3: It is a solid blob. It could be any shape.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Look anyway, question, are its clothes real or just part
- 31:37Speaker 3: of its body? No?
- 31:39Speaker 2: Clearly part of its body, right, because it like squeezes
- 31:41Speaker 2: through cracks and shit and it doesn't like and it
- 31:43Speaker 2: comes out the other side with clothes.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Yeah, right, right, doesn't leave clothes behind. Yeah, so it's
- 31:48Speaker 3: literally like you know Odo from DS nine, that's what
- 31:53Speaker 3: this esture is, except evil obviously.
- 31:56Speaker 2: And like less biological even than Odo. Right, Odo is
- 31:59Speaker 2: at least flesh.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Yeah, they are at least biology. It's but the way
- 32:04Speaker 3: that they can just be whatever they want. Look, however
- 32:06Speaker 3: they want truly not limited to the human form. They're
- 32:09Speaker 3: only that way because it serves their purposes.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Well, you know, i'd almost disagree with that, because they
- 32:15Speaker 2: can turn liquid and stretchy, and they have one particular face.
- 32:19Speaker 2: But we've never seen a golmam look like anybody else.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Oh that's true. They do have a fixed look in
- 32:25Speaker 3: a way that Odo and his kind don't.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Like they're not shape changers as far as we can tell.
- 32:29Speaker 2: They're not infiltrating it by looking like you know, Tuon
- 32:32Speaker 2: and showing up like he's not that, No, true, he is,
- 32:36Speaker 2: just he looks like what he looks like.
- 32:38Speaker 3: And he can squish, right, He's got infinite form mutability
- 32:42Speaker 3: as far as space goes, but not as far as
- 32:44Speaker 3: the details. He can squish through a tiny hole, but
- 32:47Speaker 3: he will look the same on the other side once
- 32:48Speaker 3: he expands again. Okay, fair enough. Not a true shape changer.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Like memory metal, right that you can like distort it
- 32:54Speaker 2: and then if you heat it back up, it pops back.
- 32:56Speaker 2: But it's only got the one shape it pops back into.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Hmmm hmm. Yeah, I'm and aside, they only ever made six,
- 33:01Speaker 3: three male and three female quote unquote male and female.
- 33:05Speaker 2: We assume the other five or debts. Yeah, right, that's
- 33:08Speaker 2: the only reason why it's like, yeah, it's possible to
- 33:09Speaker 2: kill a gol On because this is the only one left,
- 33:12Speaker 2: and so the other one's probably either starved to death
- 33:14Speaker 2: or were killed in the you know, breaking or you know,
- 33:18Speaker 2: we're lost in the bottom of an ocean, right, like.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Yeah, one assumes that at least one was dropped into
- 33:23Speaker 3: a fiery pit in the earth and sealed up in
- 33:25Speaker 3: magma forever, you know.
- 33:27Speaker 2: So the goal is basically like, Okay, I don't want
- 33:30Speaker 2: to fight fair. I'm going to knock out of the
- 33:31Speaker 2: light so I can fight in the darkness because there's
- 33:33Speaker 2: one of me and lots of them and anything I
- 33:34Speaker 2: can kills. And Matt starts panicking right because he's like,
- 33:37Speaker 2: oh fuck, I don't want the lights to go.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Out, right, And there's a bit of like four d
- 33:41Speaker 3: chests here with you know, the lanterns, and then Tamanis
- 33:46Speaker 3: grabs one lantern and it's like, oh, TALMANI is just
- 33:48Speaker 3: making an impulsive decision to save a lantern. He's not.
- 33:51Speaker 3: This is kind of part of the plan, like a
- 33:53Speaker 3: little bit the golumb moves faster than everyone was hoping.
- 33:56Speaker 3: But also like they have layers of it's not even contingencies,
- 33:59Speaker 3: but just phases of the plan that are meant to Again,
- 34:03Speaker 3: there's band members relaying back what's happening. Okay, Tomna says,
- 34:07Speaker 3: grabbed a lantern. He's moving down this street, so it's
- 34:09Speaker 3: going to be one of these buildings and like so
- 34:12Speaker 3: on and so forth, and then you know the eyes
- 34:13Speaker 3: sadyre up there or the kinzomn are up there looking
- 34:15Speaker 3: at a map saying, Okay, it's going to be this
- 34:17Speaker 3: quadron of town, might be this building, this building, whatever.
- 34:20Speaker 2: And here's where he throws the spear and trips the
- 34:22Speaker 2: gold because the Golan's going after Talmanus and he tosses
- 34:24Speaker 2: the spear and.
- 34:26Speaker 3: That's a stick in the spokes kind of just like
- 34:28Speaker 3: even the Golomb cannot move his legs in that much
- 34:30Speaker 3: of an s curve that quickly. No, like that's just
- 34:34Speaker 3: it's too fast. And then the Golomb says, well, what
- 34:38Speaker 3: if I take away you're ashandari stupid stick with the madeion,
- 34:41Speaker 3: I throw it into a burning building. And Matt goes, aha,
- 34:43Speaker 3: I was waiting for you to ask that question, right.
- 34:46Speaker 2: And that's when we get the reveal that he's got
- 34:48Speaker 2: more heads.
- 34:50Speaker 3: And he's doing I don't even what the weapon is called,
- 34:53Speaker 3: but he's got chains that the things are on the
- 34:56Speaker 3: ends of chains and he's swinging the chains so like
- 34:59Speaker 3: with the and like yeah, but not like numb truck,
- 35:01Speaker 3: because numb trust are like the stick with a little chain.
- 35:03Speaker 3: He's got like a long chain with a ball on
- 35:06Speaker 3: the end. It's like a mace and a numbchuck had
- 35:08Speaker 3: a love child. I'm sure there's a real a flail.
- 35:11Speaker 3: That's the word. He's got flails. He's got a flail
- 35:13Speaker 3: in each hand and is very adept at it. I
- 35:18Speaker 3: can't imagine how he got so adept at using this
- 35:20Speaker 3: very awkward custom weapon. But he's like whipping them out
- 35:24Speaker 3: and back and like wrapping them around his arms. It's
- 35:26Speaker 3: very very anime. So anime.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is where you know Elaine said or
- 35:31Speaker 2: copies weren't perfect, but they seems they did the job.
- 35:33Speaker 2: So yeah, these are definitely the copies the originals around.
- 35:36Speaker 3: This was on the Ashinari, Yeah, which means it's now
- 35:38Speaker 3: in a burning building. And I guess this isn't technically
- 35:40Speaker 3: a flail, because a flail is like you're holding a
- 35:42Speaker 3: stick which has a chain, which has a ball. I
- 35:44Speaker 3: don't know what it's called when you are just the
- 35:47Speaker 3: stick yourself and it's just chain and ball, stickless flail.
- 35:51Speaker 3: What's the word for a stickless file. I'm sure there's
- 35:53Speaker 3: a weapon. A word for this, because there's a word
- 35:55Speaker 3: for every kind of weapon.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, this is one of those things where
- 35:58Speaker 2: like something on the end, a hard thing on the
- 36:01Speaker 2: end of the chain. Has so many names and used
- 36:03Speaker 2: in so many different but I don't know if flail
- 36:05Speaker 2: seems to be the one.
- 36:07Speaker 3: It's a particular kind of flail, yeah, because I'm thinking
- 36:10Speaker 3: of like the flail icon and like Balder's gate and
- 36:13Speaker 3: like that's definitely a stick chain ball combo.
- 36:16Speaker 2: The chain weapon is a weapon weighed made out of
- 36:18Speaker 2: one or more heavy objects attached to a chain, sometimes
- 36:21Speaker 2: with a handle.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Oh okay, cool, there we go.
- 36:23Speaker 2: The flail was one of the more common types of
- 36:25Speaker 2: chain weapons associated with mid to evil Europe.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Okay, it's a chain weapon. You could call it a flail,
- 36:30Speaker 3: but you should probably qualify there's not a stick candle. Yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 3: Bouji a Lane totally should have made a heftier amulet,
- 36:36Speaker 3: and then Matt could have had a lot more projectile
- 36:39Speaker 3: invent of power behind that.
- 36:42Speaker 2: The three pounds silver amulets. Sha, Yeah, get really sharp
- 36:46Speaker 2: foxhead ears so that they pierce.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Yeah, make the make the teeth that kind of like
- 36:51Speaker 3: protrude out the muzzles like in a snarl position.
- 36:56Speaker 2: And then so the Ashindari. The butt of it is
- 36:59Speaker 2: in the fire right, and he gets this smoke effect
- 37:01Speaker 2: when he's spinning it now, so he has trailing smoke
- 37:04Speaker 2: on the butt of the rifle. Again anime so visual,
- 37:07Speaker 2: very visual, and also I feel like that's something that
- 37:10Speaker 2: we see a lot in Storm White Archive with Calcas Kalidin.
- 37:14Speaker 2: The main character is a spear wheelder, and there's multiple
- 37:17Speaker 2: times when he has like miss trailing off the butt
- 37:19Speaker 2: of his spear or smoke on the butt of his spear.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Like this is something I feel like Sanderson has used
- 37:24Speaker 2: multiple times in his fights of this idea of like
- 37:27Speaker 2: kind of leaving a trail behind as you spin the spear,
- 37:30Speaker 2: and that's a cool visual.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I feel like it's a really good move too in
- 37:34Speaker 3: like the anime space because you can use it to
- 37:36Speaker 3: help do the like time speed up and slow down
- 37:39Speaker 3: thing that's so fun. In action sequences, you can use
- 37:41Speaker 3: the smoke as a sort of like constant because Somak
- 37:44Speaker 3: is so transient that if you do like the big
- 37:46Speaker 3: slow dump, then like the smoke is you know, frozen
- 37:50Speaker 3: in space or you can you know, see how fast
- 37:52Speaker 3: I'm moving because there's like spirals of smoke like left
- 37:54Speaker 3: across the space that they no longer inhabit. Because they're so.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Fast, you don't have to actually animate every scene where
- 38:00Speaker 2: the smoke was.
- 38:01Speaker 3: R It's uh, it works for me, you know, it's
- 38:04Speaker 3: it's a classic move and it does it for me.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Then he cuts the fingers off. You know, it would
- 38:09Speaker 2: be funny if the he pushes the goal through and
- 38:12Speaker 2: the fingers regrow the gole.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Don't detach the fingers. You have to throw the whole
- 38:19Speaker 3: thing over the side. Oh my god, Okay, and salmon
- 38:23Speaker 3: to say posted in chat a chain weapon, which is
- 38:26Speaker 3: two balls attached by a chain. And if that's what
- 38:29Speaker 3: we're talking, that is a bola.
- 38:31Speaker 2: I got two balls attached by a chain.
- 38:34Speaker 3: That's not pronounced bola.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Screwtum?
- 38:40Speaker 3: What yeah, would you reproducing like a flatworm? Or maybe yeah,
- 38:47Speaker 3: what if what if it reproduced a new golam? But
- 38:50Speaker 3: it was like, there's the golam in space is still
- 38:52Speaker 3: falling right, Oh yeah, grows and now there's two of them.
- 38:56Speaker 2: He grows two more fingers and then the fingers grow hole.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Oh no, like a hydra, but from the fingers, oh god.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Or if the golm was like proportionately tiny you.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Oh my god? Oh oh okay, this one from horrifying
- 39:14Speaker 3: to completely observe and amusing very quickly.
- 39:17Speaker 2: I'm thinking evil dead.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Golm definitely reproduce this. Actually, that goes without saying for sure.
- 39:25Speaker 2: I don't think Golam reproduce. I think that's why it
- 39:27Speaker 2: was only six of them.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Sure, that's probably a good thing. They never mentioned what
- 39:32Speaker 3: happens to the fingers though. What happens to them? Do
- 39:34Speaker 3: they dissolve like goo? Do they vanish into the void?
- 39:38Speaker 3: Are they just like weird like flesh fingers But the
- 39:42Speaker 3: Golan doesn't have bones, so they couldn't be fleshy, So like,
- 39:46Speaker 3: what what are the fingers on the ground? Aingers is
- 39:48Speaker 3: just gonna vanish? I guess we're just gonna have to
- 39:49Speaker 3: head cannon that they kind of like crumble into some sort.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Of yea, yeah, I assume they kind of rot just
- 39:55Speaker 2: like fingers normally would.
- 39:57Speaker 3: But it's not real flesh.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I know.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Maybe it's like dust like in the Bubble of Evil
- 40:03Speaker 3: that nine even Nafe cleaned up or something.
- 40:07Speaker 2: I think we officially have one of our spinoff stories
- 40:09Speaker 2: that we're gonna tell of the Fourth Age.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Wakes up doesn't know what its purpose is, mysteriously is
- 40:16Speaker 3: missing a few fingers.
- 40:18Speaker 2: He thinks he's a normal person at first.
- 40:21Speaker 3: And then like one day he gets like run over
- 40:22Speaker 3: by a wagon and should have been like completely crushed
- 40:25Speaker 3: in the guts, and it's just fine.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Does create blood, though gonna be hard to.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Can't eat regular food, only wants blood. That's gonna be
- 40:34Speaker 3: real hard to survive childhood as Yeah, it's okay, it's fanfic.
- 40:38Speaker 3: We'll make it work. Then Matt does an excellent just
- 40:43Speaker 3: screaming in the old tongue as he just completely unloads
- 40:47Speaker 3: on the go along right, Like he's always played it
- 40:50Speaker 3: a little safe. He's always had a little self preservation.
- 40:52Speaker 3: He's stupid sometimes, but now he is both barrels going
- 40:55Speaker 3: at once, just like screaming in the old tongue, you
- 40:58Speaker 3: know for Nalisi and four it'sland for the fallen. Fuck
- 41:01Speaker 3: you motherfucker. Like he's fully going for.
- 41:04Speaker 2: It and he's trying to draw its attention because it
- 41:06Speaker 2: has that moment where it seems to notice something behind it, right,
- 41:09Speaker 2: and that's either the isidae or that the kinswoman who's
- 41:14Speaker 2: holding the power, or the gateway itself.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Right, I'm assuming it's the kinswoman, just her presence in proximity.
- 41:20Speaker 3: But he's like, ha, they think that an Isodye is
- 41:22Speaker 3: going to blast you with fireball. That's not gonna work.
- 41:24Speaker 3: And it's like no, no, no, we're not doing fireball well.
- 41:28Speaker 2: And they also they did this trick right where she
- 41:30Speaker 2: didn't cast the gateway here. She casts it at the destination,
- 41:34Speaker 2: so there was no power being used in that location,
- 41:38Speaker 2: which is Yeah, the gateways are a bit of an
- 41:39Speaker 2: interesting little thing like that, because you can affect something
- 41:42Speaker 2: far away even though you're casting the spell or you know,
- 41:45Speaker 2: weaving the weaves in a totally different location.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so I think that he just feels her proximity
- 41:52Speaker 3: and just writes her off. But like in the text,
- 41:54Speaker 3: you can tell because he talks about the firelight, you know,
- 41:57Speaker 3: flickering all over everything, and then one doorway is ex
- 42:00Speaker 3: dark and the firelight doesn't flicker, and so that's how
- 42:02Speaker 3: he knows like which door to aim for. But yeah,
- 42:05Speaker 3: I agree, it is a distraction because he has to
- 42:07Speaker 3: keep he has to herd the golomb right now. The
- 42:10Speaker 3: door has been picked, right, they can't pick another building,
- 42:13Speaker 3: pick another doorway, like he has to maneuver the goleum
- 42:15Speaker 3: into that doorway because there's no one who can give
- 42:19Speaker 3: feedback on how to reposition it, Like that's it, that's
- 42:21Speaker 3: where you gotta go.
- 42:22Speaker 2: And this is a skimming doorway, not a traveling doorway.
- 42:25Speaker 3: Yes, yes, it takes it out onto a platform, and
- 42:27Speaker 3: so yeah, it backs up through the doorway, glances down
- 42:30Speaker 3: at the floor, which is not the floor anymore, and
- 42:34Speaker 3: that's when the four D chess game is revealed, the
- 42:38Speaker 3: call of Vengeance, and then yeah, it almost stumbles off
- 42:42Speaker 3: the edge of the platform and we have this just
- 42:44Speaker 3: gloriously cinematic moment of it hanging on the edge and
- 42:49Speaker 3: Matt getting to do like one tiny little hero mustache
- 42:52Speaker 3: twhirl and just kicks him off, just fucking boot plants
- 42:57Speaker 3: in the back and just whoop.
- 43:00Speaker 2: I don't know if you can die, And that's so softly.
- 43:02Speaker 2: I hope the light that you can't. He raised a boot,
- 43:05Speaker 2: slammed it in the things back, screaming this is Sparta,
- 43:08Speaker 2: throwing it off the platform into the.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Darkness, and then he spits down after it, just sending
- 43:21Speaker 3: a little bit of a spit which again I'm like,
- 43:23Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe it's gonna figure out how to
- 43:24Speaker 3: do blood magic on the way down and like summon
- 43:26Speaker 3: you into the depths of hell. Maybe you shouldn't send
- 43:28Speaker 3: your DNA down there with him, but whatever.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Maybe able to use that blood to survive somehow, like
- 43:33Speaker 2: you know, like there's some yeah.
- 43:35Speaker 3: And then he says, I hope you can't die, because
- 43:37Speaker 3: I'm going to enjoy the thought of you falling through
- 43:40Speaker 3: that blackness forever. You miss Begod and saw you misbegotten
- 43:45Speaker 3: son of a ghost dropping. I'm going to enjoy the
- 43:48Speaker 3: thought of you falling forever, like that's just a thing
- 43:51Speaker 3: to remember that for the rest of time, until the
- 43:54Speaker 3: thing starves. That is happening in a nameless space that
- 43:59Speaker 3: no other person and we'll ever get to like this
- 44:01Speaker 3: person creature construct is living out that nightmare that Matt
- 44:06Speaker 3: is going to be reveling in for the rest of
- 44:08Speaker 3: his days.
- 44:09Speaker 2: And the only other person we know who's lived out
- 44:10Speaker 2: that nightmare is a poor Ayeel who.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Fell and who definitely died a lot faster than the
- 44:15Speaker 3: Golom will because human fear and dehydration. I'm assuming the
- 44:19Speaker 3: Golam has a lot longer to live.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I'm kind of also assuming the Iell embrace death and
- 44:24Speaker 2: killed himself with his stars long before. Yeah, that became
- 44:27Speaker 2: an issue.
- 44:28Speaker 3: Once he got bored of being terrified of falling and
- 44:31Speaker 3: realized that there was no one coming to save him. Yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 3: he probably was like, I'm gonna need to end this
- 44:35Speaker 3: on my own terms.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:37Speaker 3: No, So the Golam is the second person to ever
- 44:40Speaker 3: suffer that fate that we know of in this timeline,
- 44:44Speaker 3: in this period of history.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Camic gol and die. I think so. I think they
- 44:47Speaker 2: can starve to death. I think they need blood to
- 44:49Speaker 2: sustain themselves.
- 44:51Speaker 3: How long do you think it takes? I assume a
- 44:53Speaker 3: lot longer than dehydration for a person, longer than starvation
- 44:57Speaker 3: for a human.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Tough to really know, because I mean he seems to
- 45:00Speaker 2: kill on a pretty regular basis, right Like, but how
- 45:04Speaker 2: much that is wants to versus has to. I think
- 45:07Speaker 2: they have to kill pretty frequently.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Maybe like a wolf kind of frequency. Not literally daily,
- 45:12Speaker 3: but pretty.
- 45:13Speaker 2: Often mm hmmm mm hmm, sort of weekly type situation.
- 45:16Speaker 3: So probably could make it for a month with no food.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'm thinking sort of food, like the
- 45:22Speaker 2: way people would die without food, right, Like, there's a
- 45:24Speaker 2: certain starvation you know.
- 45:26Speaker 3: About human speed for that, not dehydration though, I don't
- 45:29Speaker 3: think I think that would be relevant. It's just the
- 45:31Speaker 3: sheer sustenance of blood.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Because the goal omar vampires, right.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Yeah, for the most part.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Yeah, right, they live forever, they're impossible to kill, they
- 45:40Speaker 2: have vulnerability against silver.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Yeah, they drink blood, they heal rapidly, and they can
- 45:45Speaker 3: move through.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:46Speaker 3: I mean vampires are represented in many of the different.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Even right, the drug car also, right, Like, that's where
- 45:52Speaker 2: you get the bats, yeah, I.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Mean even fades to a certain extent, right right, Yeah.
- 45:56Speaker 2: No, there is well, and that's where our legends are
- 45:59Speaker 2: never based on. Like Thor is a bit of Rand and.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Parent right right, right right, Odin is split out across
- 46:05Speaker 3: Matt and Rand in a lot of ways.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, that's that's one of the coolest endings.
- 46:10Speaker 2: You know. I think that the Golam for the Golam
- 46:14Speaker 2: and paden Fane, I think are sort of the two
- 46:17Speaker 2: biggest and Slayer. Those are our three sort of side
- 46:21Speaker 2: character bad guys that aren't the big bad, that aren't
- 46:24Speaker 2: the Forsaken, but that are significant antagonists to our Yeah.
- 46:29Speaker 3: They're mid level. They're definitely not just your regular fade
- 46:32Speaker 3: and festive trolls. They're on another level. And Matt takes
- 46:36Speaker 3: out two of those. Yes, I guess because Rand was
- 46:38Speaker 3: busy taking out the actual bbeg right.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I do think that Padden Fane should have had
- 46:45Speaker 2: more to do with Rand. He tried, He tried.
- 46:48Speaker 3: To his credit, padd and Fane was going for Rand,
- 46:51Speaker 3: not for Matt. Just not got in the.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Way, because I do think Patent Faanine should have been
- 46:56Speaker 2: involved in the last Bett. Like I still, I would
- 46:58Speaker 2: have loved had to have Rand kill the dark One,
- 47:01Speaker 2: realize his mistake and slam Paddent Fane into that spot
- 47:04Speaker 2: and make him the new dark One.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Here's your challenge, write a five hundred word fanfick of
- 47:09Speaker 3: that for when we get to that part. All right,
- 47:12Speaker 3: all right, you've got a yearish.
- 47:15Speaker 2: My writing is terrible.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's why I gave you a short word count.
- 47:21Speaker 3: So yeah, we have a little bit of a debrief.
- 47:23Speaker 3: Samako immediately chides Matt on his technique, and Matt says, no,
- 47:27Speaker 3: I'm not accepting that criticism. That was what worked. Get
- 47:31Speaker 3: out of here. She doesn't offer healing, he doesn't ask.
- 47:34Speaker 3: He wonders how too one feels about sexy man Scars.
- 47:37Speaker 3: I assume that she doesn't care one way or any
- 47:40Speaker 3: because he's Prince of the Ravens and that's what counts.
- 47:44Speaker 3: But it's still a cute thought on his part. Women
- 47:46Speaker 3: like Scars, does two unlike Scars? Silly man? And then
- 47:51Speaker 3: I did have a thought, So he Tomana's hands, Matt
- 47:55Speaker 3: back his medallions. The kin look at the medallions very
- 47:58Speaker 3: very hungrily, and he says he intends one for Oliver
- 48:02Speaker 3: and the other for two on. Once he could find her,
- 48:06Speaker 3: but two on can channel. So if she has one
- 48:09Speaker 3: of the copies and she attempts to do anything Sooldami
- 48:13Speaker 3: or even you know, reach for the hour herself, that's
- 48:16Speaker 3: gonna be a problem. He might not care about the
- 48:18Speaker 3: flaws that Elene is complaining about, but they might come
- 48:22Speaker 3: into play for two.
- 48:23Speaker 2: I bet, I bet you cannot use an adam if
- 48:27Speaker 2: you're wearing a copy.
- 48:28Speaker 3: I would assume so that that feels like they would
- 48:31Speaker 3: be like only the original would work. So we know
- 48:33Speaker 3: that two one doesn't do sold on stuff very much anymore.
- 48:36Speaker 3: She's busy being an empress, et cetera, et cetera. But
- 48:38Speaker 3: I'm like that you're gonna give her a broken toy
- 48:41Speaker 3: and she's gonna be so pissed because it's going to
- 48:43Speaker 3: remind her about the fact that she can channel and
- 48:45Speaker 3: like that. We don't ever see it happen, but it's
- 48:49Speaker 3: it's funny to imagine that going sour, you know, like
- 48:52Speaker 3: sometime in early February when she finally gets to try
- 48:54Speaker 3: her Christmas present.
- 48:55Speaker 2: You know. Same thing with Oliver. I don't think we
- 48:56Speaker 2: ever see him get one.
- 48:58Speaker 3: No, no, but it won't give him any pro problems
- 49:00Speaker 3: because he's, you know, a regular mortal fighter. He doesn't
- 49:03Speaker 3: have magic abilities, so the flaws wouldn't be an issue
- 49:07Speaker 3: for him. But I do assume that when he does
- 49:09Speaker 3: his adventuring life in the fourth Age, that he does
- 49:12Speaker 3: have a Foxhead medallion that Matt did ultimately manage to
- 49:14Speaker 3: get around to giving him.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Well, And it's interesting because there's plenty of opportunity for
- 49:18Speaker 2: Matt to give it to him, right before he goes
- 49:20Speaker 2: off to the towers, right he says goodbye to Oliver.
- 49:23Speaker 3: Yeah, why doesn't that ever happen again? Because the gold
- 49:26Speaker 3: lumbs out of.
- 49:27Speaker 2: The seems like Oliver should have the medallion that whole time.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it seems like It should have been something that's
- 49:32Speaker 3: like bouncing on his chest as Bella takes him on
- 49:34Speaker 3: that last desperate run, something that he's like clutching in
- 49:37Speaker 3: the hopes that'll protect him, but he knows that it
- 49:38Speaker 3: doesn't work against the blades of shadow spawn, and that
- 49:43Speaker 3: should have been there. That's a weird little detail that
- 49:46Speaker 3: would have really added to Oliver. Like, oh, Oliver's leveled
- 49:48Speaker 3: up to a level two child, you know, like free
- 49:51Speaker 3: at this point.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Honestly, he at least has protection from channeling, right, Like.
- 49:55Speaker 3: That would have been a really nice He's continuing to
- 49:57Speaker 3: armor up. But I don't know, Sanderson just lost that
- 50:01Speaker 3: little crumb along the way between the couch cushions.
- 50:04Speaker 2: I guess seems like, well, it seems like that got forgotten.
- 50:07Speaker 3: We'll just wedge a little head cannon in there for fun.
- 50:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna assume Oliver's carrying one of those the whole time.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Yes, we are now head cannoning that Matt does give
- 50:14Speaker 3: him one, and it is with him for all of
- 50:16Speaker 3: his subsequent on screen interactions on page interactions.
- 50:20Speaker 2: I just thought of something. The Golam would be able
- 50:22Speaker 2: to go through a gateway, because Matt's gone through gateways
- 50:24Speaker 2: wearing the medallion, and.
- 50:25Speaker 3: The medallion didn't like explode or anything the.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Gateway, right, Yeah, okay, so that logic makes sense to me.
- 50:32Speaker 3: We still need to see what would happen if he
- 50:33Speaker 3: swung the medallion into the edge of a gateway, and
- 50:36Speaker 3: we can try that with one of the spars, like
- 50:37Speaker 3: like touching it to the edge and see which thing
- 50:40Speaker 3: gets destroyed.
- 50:41Speaker 2: You know, yeah, you go for it. I'll be over
- 50:43Speaker 2: here far away on the.
- 50:44Speaker 3: Side to make me some ten foot tongs exactly voujie
- 50:50Speaker 3: to have some black Audua sister go after Oliver and
- 50:53Speaker 3: then just get absolutely shanked by a child because he's
- 50:57Speaker 3: got magic community. That would have been so much fun,
- 51:00Speaker 3: some low level dark friend and he just like manages
- 51:02Speaker 3: his first kill because she assumes that a child couldn't
- 51:05Speaker 3: possibly be immune to a fireball and he's just like,
- 51:08Speaker 3: it's just.
- 51:09Speaker 2: We yeah, and she's like, wait, what, I'm the like
- 51:16Speaker 2: Galina or something getting taken down by Oliver.
- 51:19Speaker 3: Yes, taking down a supremely scary black sister not knowing
- 51:23Speaker 3: who the hell she is. Yeah, just completely clear girl
- 51:29Speaker 3: who he killed. Yeah, much good headcanon here, And then
- 51:33Speaker 3: we get a fun little interaction between Guy Bond, Matt,
- 51:37Speaker 3: and Talmana I said again, is really bringing Talmani's in
- 51:40Speaker 3: as a more fleshed out, humorous character that's gonna be
- 51:43Speaker 3: deeply involved in the Andoran plot because Matt says, oh yeah,
- 51:48Speaker 3: this is a because because guybon asks is the goal,
- 51:50Speaker 3: I'm dead and you know, Matt just said, I hope
- 51:52Speaker 3: you can't die, right, So he's like, wow, isn't that dead?
- 51:56Speaker 3: But close enough for a crown contract? Guyon says, we
- 51:59Speaker 3: didn't sign a contract. TILMANI is just dead pans like,
- 52:04Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure you owe us combat pay, just like
- 52:06Speaker 3: absolutely dead pan. The kind of thing the in prior
- 52:10Speaker 3: books would have been. He's a stiff noble and that's
- 52:13Speaker 3: all there is to him. But now, because Sanderson wants
- 52:16Speaker 3: him to take on a more load bearing portion of
- 52:19Speaker 3: the plot, he's getting to be funny and sardonic and
- 52:22Speaker 3: sarcastic instead of boring and flat.
- 52:25Speaker 2: Woujie I like I like all Vren instead of Glena
- 52:27Speaker 2: in that situation.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Yes, because all vr and being locked in a grove
- 52:32Speaker 3: forever is annoying and stabbed by a child who doesn't
- 52:35Speaker 3: realize that she's literally the head of the black auja
- 52:38Speaker 3: wah yeah, yeah, or not the head of the Black
- 52:41Speaker 3: Aja the.
- 52:43Speaker 2: What is was?
- 52:44Speaker 3: Yeah? Oh the red and al Vrn's head.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Of the Black the Black?
- 52:50Speaker 3: Yeah, right right, right, right right, Yeah.
- 52:53Speaker 2: I made that mistake many times and you've corrected me.
- 52:55Speaker 2: So it's nice to come back.
- 52:56Speaker 3: Thank you for returning the favorite. Between the two of us,
- 52:59Speaker 3: we know most of what's happened, and then the audience
- 53:03Speaker 3: is there to keep us extra on track.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Between between the thousand of us, we kind of know
- 53:07Speaker 2: what's going on.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Yes, precisely. It takes a thousand people that keep up
- 53:11Speaker 3: with Robert Shorten, yes, yeah.
- 53:14Speaker 2: And then just a little bit of the end he
- 53:17Speaker 2: talks about using stuffing the golms down, stuffing the medallions
- 53:20Speaker 2: down the golm's throat as a solution, which, yeah, that'd
- 53:24Speaker 2: be fun.
- 53:25Speaker 3: That would have been a lot longer and more drawn
- 53:27Speaker 3: out of a way to kill it, I think.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I feel like you have to somehow confine
- 53:33Speaker 2: the goal to do a lot of things, and that's
- 53:35Speaker 2: really hard to do because of his stretchy ability, So
- 53:38Speaker 2: you can't like time down unfortunate.
- 53:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but yeah, that was a really fun chapter,
- 53:44Speaker 3: fun action sequences, That was just a good time. That
- 53:48Speaker 3: was just a good time. I've been looking forward to
- 53:49Speaker 3: this chapter for a while.
- 53:51Speaker 2: Same I we'll do a readout. Worked out fine, Matt said,
- 53:55Speaker 2: inspecting the butt of his Ashendari. The damage was minor.
- 53:58Speaker 2: They had not known where or the golm would attack him,
- 54:01Speaker 2: but guy Bonds had done his job well, getting everyone
- 54:04Speaker 2: out of the nearby buildings, then picking a hallway that
- 54:07Speaker 2: the Kinswoman would make the gateway into. He'd send a
- 54:10Speaker 2: member of the band to tell Tomnis where to go. Well,
- 54:13Speaker 2: Elaine and Brigida's idea what the gateway had worked out.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Even if it hadn't been the way they'd planned, it
- 54:18Speaker 2: was still better than one Matt had been able to
- 54:19Speaker 2: come up with. His only idea had been trying stuff
- 54:22Speaker 2: one of those medallions down the Gold's throat. Let's collect
- 54:25Speaker 2: Seattle and Oliver from there in, Matt said, and go
- 54:27Speaker 2: back to camp. Excitements over for now. About bloody time.
- 54:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it is about bloody time. We get that antagonist
- 54:33Speaker 3: off of your docket.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Dude, quick question, what was Elaine's in Brigida's What way
- 54:39Speaker 2: did they think it was going to work out?
- 54:41Speaker 3: I was just wondering that maybe they figured that it
- 54:44Speaker 3: would die on passage through the gateway, and he was like,
- 54:48Speaker 3: I don't know about that, but the skimming platform sounds
- 54:50Speaker 3: deadly enough as a backup. We can work with it totally,
- 54:53Speaker 3: because I had never really thought about that. But it
- 54:54Speaker 3: had to just be that because typicalized to die. They
- 54:56Speaker 3: think the one power is a solution to everything. You know,
- 55:00Speaker 3: that is a two rivers boy, and he knows that
- 55:02Speaker 3: sometimes you just got to hit someone really hard and
- 55:04Speaker 3: that's actually the solution. Ah. That was great. That was
- 55:08Speaker 3: not too short of a chapter. It's pretty pretty short
- 55:10Speaker 3: because it's an action chapter. But I feel like we
- 55:13Speaker 3: reveled in. We really just wallowed in how awesome that was.
- 55:18Speaker 2: All right, Well, thank you very much.
- 55:20Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you everyone.
- 55:22Speaker 1: See you next week, See you next week.
- 56:01Speaker 3: All right, recording is started. And I need the world
- 56:05Speaker 3: to know that there are, in fact three kinds of spicy.
- 56:07Speaker 3: I've recently discovered a third kind of spicy. There is
- 56:10Speaker 3: regular chili spicy. There is your mustard horseradish kind of spicy.
- 56:15Speaker 2: Like black pepper would fall in that category too, I think, right, yeah.
- 56:17Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly as opposed to a chili pepper. Yeah, And
- 56:20Speaker 3: then there is Sishwan pepper, which is numbing, numbing spicy.
- 56:25Speaker 3: It's a third kind of spicy, and I have my
- 56:29Speaker 3: husband and I have discovered this in recent months and
- 56:31Speaker 3: it has been a bit of a culinary revelation. And
- 56:34Speaker 3: it's really really good. It goes really good in soup.
- 56:37Speaker 3: You were eating soup and put a you know, a
- 56:40Speaker 3: good couple of tablespoons of that into a soup. Ah,
- 56:43Speaker 3: so good, or just put it on noodles.
- 56:49Speaker 2: So I don't understand numbing like you have to. You
- 56:51Speaker 2: have to explain to me what you mean by numbing spicy.
- 56:53Speaker 3: It's it's like a cold sensation almost. It's a tingly almost,
- 57:03Speaker 3: but not like mint cold. It's not like a minti cold,
- 57:06Speaker 3: which I hate mint, but I know what minti cold
- 57:08Speaker 3: is like, and it's not like that. It's like a tangle.
- 57:11Speaker 3: It's a much more of a vibration and it's almost
- 57:15Speaker 3: cold that it's totally hitting different nerve endings, sensors than
- 57:19Speaker 3: when you get the like burning hot sensation. It's a
- 57:23Speaker 3: different kind of thing, but it still tingles, It still
- 57:27Speaker 3: tingles and vibrates.
- 57:29Speaker 2: Would you suggest saldaean ice peppers?
- 57:31Speaker 3: You know, maybe maybe because it's a really intensely different
- 57:36Speaker 3: kind of experience. And like I've said it on recording before,
- 57:40Speaker 3: I'm sure half of my tongue is numb from a
- 57:42Speaker 3: dental mishap when they took my wisdom teeth out. My
- 57:46Speaker 3: tongue just never fully recovered because they hit my nerve
- 57:49Speaker 3: with the needle.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Ah, I forgot about that. That sucks.
- 57:52Speaker 3: It's very weird. So half of my tongue, or closer
- 57:55Speaker 3: to a third of my tongue is just sort of
- 57:56Speaker 3: tingling all the time with numbness, and so eating this
- 58:00Speaker 3: sauce suddenly there was little dots of that same sensation
- 58:03Speaker 3: across my tongue.
- 58:04Speaker 2: On the interest interest, what.
- 58:07Speaker 3: It really is numbing. It's making my whole tongue numb.
- 58:11Speaker 3: And if you eat it at a lower concentration, it's
- 58:13Speaker 3: more of just like a fun interesting flavor tangle. It's
- 58:17Speaker 3: less of a true numbing. But if you eat like
- 58:18Speaker 3: just the straight like sauce, like just smeared it on
- 58:21Speaker 3: some noodles or on some bread or whatever, it's a
- 58:24Speaker 3: really wild sensation. Yeah, really highly recommend it.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Closest thing I had to that is like I cut
- 58:29Speaker 2: off the tip of my pointer finger on my left hand,
- 58:33Speaker 2: or more the pad I should say, than the tip right,
- 58:35Speaker 2: Like I sliced to cross instead of through, But that
- 58:38Speaker 2: pad is pretty much numb, like it grew back, but
- 58:42Speaker 2: it does not have the feeling that the rest of
- 58:45Speaker 2: my fingers have by a lot, which is also so
- 58:47Speaker 2: I burn myself there all the time too, because like
- 58:49Speaker 2: I'll touch something hot and then it'll pull away as
- 58:51Speaker 2: fast on that finger, so then it's even more numb,
- 58:54Speaker 2: because like I did, I burned this shit out of
- 58:56Speaker 2: last night while I was making dinner. It doesn't hurt, right, Yeah,
- 58:59Speaker 2: it's like, oh god.
- 59:02Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's a weird thing to say that. It's
- 59:04Speaker 3: tasty to have your tongue being made numb. But it's
- 59:06Speaker 3: not like your tongue gets made like novacne numb. It's
- 59:08Speaker 3: just it's it's truly a different third kind of spicy.
- 59:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:13Speaker 3: Seichewan peppers. I suggest them. They look a lot like peppercorns.
- 59:17Speaker 3: We've got like a grinder of them, We've got like
- 59:20Speaker 3: some jars of spice that it's the brand is called
- 59:22Speaker 3: fly By Jing Sichewan pepper sauce. Sometimes it's really extra
- 59:25Speaker 3: crunchy with like pumpkin seeds and other stuff in it
- 59:28Speaker 3: to give it like a very crunchy kind of experience.
- 59:30Speaker 3: It's yeah, learned about it recently because his uncle lives
- 59:34Speaker 3: in Japan and came over and was like, here have
- 59:36Speaker 3: some like, you know, fun you know spices that we
- 59:39Speaker 3: just get at the store over there. And we'd also
- 59:41Speaker 3: recently seen about it on YouTube, and yeah, then we
- 59:44Speaker 3: found a sauce it safeway. It's we went to this
- 59:47Speaker 3: restaurant together day, which I'm sure they were using Seshwan
- 59:50Speaker 3: peppers in the soup that we ordered. It's just kind
- 59:52Speaker 3: of blossomed onto our realities and I need to be
- 59:56Speaker 3: part of passing this along. More people need to know
- 59:58Speaker 3: about the amazingness of these peppers. Awesome.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: How are your holidays? Did anything fun?
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: I took a nice two week break. I really focused
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: more of my celebration on Solstice, really very mid on
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: the whole American Christmas thing. Did set up a Yule
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: tree branch as one does, did do Hanuka candles because
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: that's a family tradition. Stay at home for the most part,
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: did go visit the in laws and have beef Wellington,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: and of course this springs up the annual discussion of
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: what exactly is the entire Wellington family of foods. There's
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: a chart, It's a whole thing. Corn dogs and pop
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: tarts are in the Wellington family.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Fun fact, I guess they would be. Yeah, I mean
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: an anytime you're wrapping meat in a pastry, right, Like
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: I get.
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: Angry at the pop tart argument, but it's on the chart,
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: so you know, yeah.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: I mean because it doesn't meet there's no meat in
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: pop tarts.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: No, no, but the fact that it's stuff wrapped in
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: pastry anyway. It's one of those lovely holiday debates. So
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: that was fun. And yeah, I really just did a
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: lot of this staying home, and I had intentions of
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: staying home and working after New Year's that didn't end
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: up happening, but you know, my marriage is the stronger
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: for not doing all that work over the vacation, So
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: you know, it was, it was. It was a good
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: but quiet holiday. And yeah, as we were talking about
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: before we got onto recording and looking at dealing with
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: some medical stuff coming up soon, so you know, just
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: kind of like took a nice break and pause, and
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: now I feel like I'm trying to hit the ground running,
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: not doing like a New Year's resolution thing, but just
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: doing like that was a big breath and now it's
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: time to do stuff because I had a big breath.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: So that was me, how about you.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: I mean I pretty much worked my normal schedule during
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: the holiday. It's like I work in a factory that
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: we don't shut down. So I had Christmas Day off,
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: and I took a week off in early December because
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: I did have time to burn ideas before the end
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: of the year. But yeah, when we did Christmas with
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Never's parents, and that was they do the traditional Christmas
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: family thing, the presence and everything. But yeah, just had
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: a nice cho It was nice not to record for
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: a couple of weeks and like have that time be
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: down and actually like had my tuesdays.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: I was off of all my zoom calls. Like nobody
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: gets a zoom call from me.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: I bought Never a car. That was a big part
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: of like what we did in our free time is
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: like we spent a couple of days, you know, multiple
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: days going to lots looking at use cars and you
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: know her super shit of two thousand and four Subaru
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Forrester that she got in a little fender bender, and
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: it's not worth repairing because they're old and labor's expensive,
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: and so it becomes if you have drive an older car,
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: it's very very quickly totaled if you do any damage
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: to it, even if it's not a total car, right like,
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: if you think about like a big fucking you destroyed car,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: it's been flipped and trash and everything like that. So
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: we took the money from the car and went ahead
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: and bought twenty eleven Subaru Legacy with a nice limited
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: so it's got a nice package and everything, so like
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: heated seats, which is important for her back and yeah, anyway,
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: so yeah, it's just it's that that that's kind of like, oh,
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: buying car feels like this big deal, you know, But
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: then you're like, oh, but then I just have a
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: car that I used to get back and forth to
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: work like he used to, right like, and I'm not
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: even driving it.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: But yeah, it's still a lot of work to make
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: sure that your daily driver that your significant other is
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: commuting in is like safe and good and gonna get
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: the job done.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: And then we got some work done on the roof
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: of the house. I got I'm such a boring old
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: man now I'm like I got a new car and
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: my house needs work, But like.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: Can I tell you about my well repair?
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: Yeah, well, all right, I'll tell you about mine, and
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: then you tell me about yours.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: This is what the people want.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, this is This is the most entertaining comment.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: I'm sure you can imagine. So, yeah, well, they did
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: some roofwork on my roof before I moved in, and
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: they left the grate over the dryer. I have a
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: third floor roof, so I can't really necessarily get up
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: there to look at that's I had to hire someone
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: to get up there because it's row home and it's
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: just not good access if you don't have a cherry
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: picker of a ladder. And so yeah, he pulled that
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: out and all of a sudden, my clothes are drying faster.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: And he cleaned out my gutters. So now the water
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: is actually running down the gutters. And I realized this
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: must be the most boring content in the world. But
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: it's very exciting for me because I live in my
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: house and this the water. Oh my god. So the
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: whole thing is the water's been skipping the gutter because
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: it's so it had a grade over it, and the
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: grate was clogged, and so the water would come down
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: to the v and shoot out and fall's story onto
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: the metal drain gutter drain right, whatever that thing's called,
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: and it would hit it, and it sounded like someone
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: beating on the metal gutter with like just a set
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: of you know, drum hammers. What are those things?
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: Drumsticks?
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: Drum sticks? Thank you my brain, I wow, I am
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: struggling with words today. This might be an interesting podcast.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: And it sounds like someone's beating on it with drumsticks
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: all night, you know. And so finally they rained this morning.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: No sound. Oh yeah, and that was right outside my
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: bedroom window. I'm going to sleep so much better. Like
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: it's such a small thing, but it's going to be
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: such a huge quality of life improvement.
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's an amazing thing to not have to
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: live with when you didn't realize how stressful it was. Well,
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: mallets are a thing you can't have on drums, but
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: generally they are called.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: Sticks sticks, drum sticks.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, Well, my my big exciting homeowner improvement over
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: the weekend or over the holiday break was our well,
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: just our well pump gave out and so we had
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: to have weekend people come out and replace the well pump,
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: and Seth already knows the answer, but I want you
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: out in the audience to all just make a little
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: bet with yourself. When was that well pump installed? Okay,
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: you gotta guess, you got you gotta guess in your mind. Okay,
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: hold that number.
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: Nineteen seventy nine, Oh, doctor pants, you guessed the year
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: that I guess When Brandon asked me this question, that
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: well pump was almost certainly older than me, my husband,
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: and the two people who were installing its replacement.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: Like, almost certainly it was the first well pump that
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: was put into that well when it was dug. Yeah,
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: real old. It was the part of the attachment crumbled
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: when they tried to pull it out. So we've made
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: a very big improvement to the value of our property
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: now by installing a pump from this millennium.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: That's less than fifty years old.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's like that. Yeah it was forty six. No, anyway,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: it's old. It was very old, needed to be replaced
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: a long time ago, probably, but it had been continuing
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: to work forty six years.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: Ye.
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: So yeah, we've replaced that. So that's a nice investment
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: in the value of the property and came out to
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: be a lot cheaper than we thought it would be
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: for an emergency repair on the weekend, which is pretty awesome.
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: Still never cheap, no, no, And we're deeply, deeply privileged
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: to be able to say, oh cool, we're going to
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: spend less of our savings on it than we thought
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: we would. Great. You know we have that kind of savings,
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: which is definitely you know, this could have been a
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: catastrophic failure but for the fact that we have resources
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: to absorb multiple thousands of dollars worth of cost at
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: random on a weekend.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: I'm waiting for the roof cock clean to bill me.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: I haven't paid him yet. This was yesterday. I was like, sure,
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: I gave him my email and we've been emailing.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Surely he would like to get paid for his labor.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: That would make sense, I know.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: I'm like, send me a bill so I can pay you,
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: like I needed invoice. I think what I think what
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: he's also doing. I think he wants to quote up
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: some more work. He wants to replace some of the
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: like vents on the roof because they're cracked a little bit.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: So I think he might be writing up a proposal
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: to send as well along with the bill. So, but
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: I don't want to be that guy who's like, I
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: don't I'm going to come back in three months to
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: be like, why didn't you ever pay me? I'm like,
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: why didn't you ever bill me?
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: Yeah, money's fun, Money's fun. So now we've got ten
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: minutes of.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna say, speaking of money, Matt is gambling.
