- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:02Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to keep the
- 0:05conversation about Leslie Groff going and we're going to take
- 0:09a look at the three to zero two report that
- 0:11she gave to the FBI. Federal Bureau of Investigation. Leslie
- 0:18Groff date of birth redacted was interviewed pursuing to a
- 0:21proffer agreement at thirty nine Broadway, Suite sixteen ten, New York,
- 0:25New York. Present for the proffer was Groff's attorney, Michael Backner.
- 0:30Also present for the proffer was an assistant United States Attorneys
- 0:34redacted and redacted, along with special Agent redacted. After being
- 0:39advised of the identity of the above listed individuals and
- 0:43the nature of the interview, Groff provided the following information.
- 0:47Groff is in retirement along with her husband. Groff has
- 0:50a redacted son. Groff enjoys exercising and listening to books
- 0:54on tape. Groff resigned in July twenty nineteen from working
- 0:58for Jeffrey Epstein. Groff had started working for Epstein in
- 1:02February of two thousand and one. Graff attended college in
- 1:05North Texas and is a UTD graduate. Groff lived in Texas,
- 1:10then met a man who lived in New Jersey, which
- 1:13caused her to move to the area. Groff worked for
- 1:16nine years at an office supply company. Groff then divorced.
- 1:20Groff then worked at Nordstrom. Groff met her current husband
- 1:24at a triathlon. Groff was still working at Nordstrom at
- 1:27the time. Groff wanted to be an event planner and
- 1:29thought Wall Street would be a great place to work
- 1:32a headhunter. Russell found a resume on Monster. Groff was
- 1:36looking at a job to work for the Knicks, but
- 1:38it was taken. Groff met with Russell and he told
- 1:41her that there was a job to organize one man's life.
- 1:44This man was Epstein, a Manhattan socialite. Graff had never
- 1:49heard of Epstein before this. Groff interviewed for the position.
- 1:52Groff interviewed with redacted redacted, who was Glenn Maxwell, Maxwell's
- 1:57assistant at the time. Then Groff interviewed with maxim Well
- 2:00before interviewing with Epstein. The next day, when he was
- 2:03in town, Groff interviewed at four fifty seven Madison on
- 2:07the fourth floor. This location was part of a palace.
- 2:11Groff was in the front office before going to Epstein's office.
- 2:14Groff met with all three people on the same day.
- 2:17It was a normal interview about being an executive assistant.
- 2:20During the interview, the phone kept bringing. Epstein would talk
- 2:23then hang up. It seemed to be a very vibrant office.
- 2:27Groff had to sign a non disclosure agreement. If Groff
- 2:30spoke about business people, which Groff thought included Les Wexner,
- 2:34she would owe him one hundred thousand dollars. Groff had
- 2:37never seen anything like the non disclosure agreement before working
- 2:41for Epstein. Grof had her own office in the back.
- 2:44Others that worked at the office were two attorneys, an assistant,
- 2:47a trader, a travel assistant redacted or redacted or redacted
- 2:51and redacted. Maxwell came in and out of the office.
- 2:54Epstein did not work a nine to five schedule. Epstein
- 2:58gave Groff pages, including a call who he wanted to
- 3:01see and the appointments. Grof had to reorganize and shift
- 3:05things at the time. Groff made all the phone calls,
- 3:09including calling the driver, chef, and other people. Groff had
- 3:12two phones on her desk. It was hectic. Grof was
- 3:16told that mistakes were not tolerated. It was challenging, but
- 3:19Graff like that. Sometimes Graff went home in tears sometimes
- 3:23for messing up his day. Graff felt it was pretty
- 3:26incredible to see all the people Epstein dealt with in politics, television, etc.
- 3:32Graff felt wow. Prior to working for Epstein, she never
- 3:35knew people who On the plane Graff found out about
- 3:39Maxwell's father in life. Grof felt like Epstein and Maxwell's
- 3:43lives were the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Graff
- 3:46described getting into the office. She would have to go
- 3:48in through the palace and go straight through the hotel portion.
- 3:53The left side was where Epstein's office was located. Groff
- 3:56thought on the fourth floor was where the office was located.
- 4:00There were other businesses in the building. They had a
- 4:02view of the Fifth Avenue Cathedral. Once off of the elevator,
- 4:06there was a desk for the receptionist. Groff could not
- 4:09remember if this was there the day she left. After
- 4:12going straight, there would be a large office for two
- 4:15accountants and the trader. The accountant was Eric Ganey, who
- 4:20had an assistant accountant, Bella Cline. The trader was Harry Beller.
- 4:24The person who was Epstein's assistant would be at the
- 4:27receptionist desk. Someone was always there and it changed over time.
- 4:31There was redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, and redacted. The controller
- 4:37was a mad Hanna. When Ganey left, he was replaced
- 4:41by Richard Kahn. To the right of the office where
- 4:44the attorneys Darren Endyke and Jeff Schantz. Straight back was
- 4:48Groff's office. Towards the left was Epstein's office, and towards
- 4:52the right was a desk for Maxwell and a assistant redacted.
- 4:56Lauren Quitner was an assistant the attorneys. There was a
- 5:01desk for redacted, which changed or redacted redacted. When Redacted left.
- 5:06Epstein wanted an estate manager, which kept turning over. There
- 5:10were a lot of people in the office. They first
- 5:12started building Maxwell's house. After her house was built, she
- 5:16moved her and her assistant to her house. Maxwell was
- 5:19maybe at the office once a week and brought her
- 5:21dog Max. Full time employees, including the attorneys, Quitner, redacted,
- 5:27and the people in the front office. Groff worked nine
- 5:29to five Monday through Friday for the first couple of years.
- 5:32Groff then became pregnant and had a son and was
- 5:35off for about three to four months. Redacted took over
- 5:38while Groff was out on maternity leave. Approximately a year
- 5:42and a half later, Maxwell's assistant left and Redacted moved
- 5:46back to being her assistant. Groff started a job share
- 5:50where she worked Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and redacted worked
- 5:54Monday and Friday. Epstein would leave New York Friday and
- 5:58return Monday night. Epstein wanted Groff the to do the
- 6:01call list. Epstein called in the morning to schedule business
- 6:04meetings architects, designers. When Grof would think he was done,
- 6:09he decided he'd want to do it all over again.
- 6:12Groff remembered seeing an invoice of a carpet for an
- 6:15airplane that was more than she made back then. Groff
- 6:19did not use email. Epstein called constantly. Epstein told her
- 6:23to call a certain individual, then he would want an
- 6:26immediate call back. Grof relaid messages, make and break appointments,
- 6:30and contact houses. Groff would have Jojo sit outside certain locations,
- 6:36but he did not like. People would come, eat, but
- 6:39he would not. Epstein would not like wasting time. The
- 6:44first time Epstein laid into Grof was when she moved
- 6:47an appointment and forgot to tell the other person. Epstein
- 6:50did not let it go. Groff ruined his whole day,
- 6:53saying he can't get that time back. Graff would tell
- 6:56the pilot when Epstein wanted to leave. For example, Graff
- 6:59would tell the pilot he would want to leave tomorrow
- 7:02at four to Palm Beach. Graff did not make airline
- 7:05reservations at the time. Redacted made those reservations. Then Epstein
- 7:10told Groff to tell Redacted to make the reservations. A
- 7:13lot of people traveled on Epstein's plane. Epstein might tell Groff.
- 7:17The lingo he used was do you need a ride?
- 7:20Graff would call and ask if he wanted friends, then
- 7:22Groff would call them. The pilot Larry needed to know,
- 7:26Groff would ask Epstein, then she would relay that information
- 7:30to Larry. Sometimes Epstein told Groff who was traveling with him,
- 7:34and other times he told Larry himself. Groff talked with
- 7:37Epstein when he was away. Epstein often traveled with Maxwell.
- 7:43The first year, Redacted traveled often with them as well.
- 7:46Then Redacted traveled with them. The assistants traveled with Epstein.
- 7:50Ted Meister was on a plane a lot. He liked
- 7:54to go to Palm Beach. Maxwell and Redacted, we're usually
- 7:57on the plane with Epstein, Maxwell traveled quite a bit.
- 8:01Groff thought Maxwell did her own thing. Groff was not
- 8:04Maxwell's assistant and did not see her as much. Maxwell
- 8:08was a big part of Epstein's life. Maxwell introduced Epstein
- 8:11to a lot of people in her circle. This was
- 8:14Groff's perception, because Groff knew her background. Groff's impression was
- 8:18that she knew that was how Epstein met Royalty through Maxwell.
- 8:23Maxwell did not talk to Groff. Groff never had a
- 8:26normal conversation with Maxwell or Epstein. Maxwell told Groff she
- 8:31was not to engage in frivolous conversation with Epstein. If
- 8:35Groff bought movie tickets for Epstein, she was not allowed
- 8:38to ask if he liked the movie. The next day.
- 8:41Groff did not have a lot to do with the
- 8:43Clinton trip. Maxwell dealt with the details. Groff's perception was
- 8:47that Maxwell knew Clinton first, but Groff did not know
- 8:50for sure. Groff recalled conversations with Maxwell in the beginning,
- 8:55probably around Groff's first week. Maxwell told her you're here
- 8:59to work. Maxwell told her that Epstein did not need
- 9:02extra conversation and that she was not allowed to fratnize
- 9:05on the phone. That the people she spoke to were
- 9:08Epstein's friends, not Groff's friends, and Graff found this similar
- 9:12to Wall Street and that she could not fratnize. Groff
- 9:15was asked to go to a party. This was probably
- 9:18within the first month of working for Epstein. Graf went
- 9:21to the party with her husband, who knew other Wall
- 9:24Street people. Epstein found out and torched her. The following monday,
- 9:28Epstein told Groff he was going to fire her, but
- 9:31put her on probation instead. Groff had to keep herself
- 9:35totally separate. It made sense to Groff, so she never
- 9:38did it again. From the beginning, massage was a part
- 9:41of Epstein's day. There were normal appointments. Groff thought Maxwell
- 9:45told her that Epstein had to have a massage every day.
- 9:49Redacted and redacted trained Groff too, but Groff thought Maxwell
- 9:52told her that it was presented like it was totally normal.
- 9:56Redacted and redacted had been there prior to Groff. No
- 10:00one seemed like it was out of the ordinary. Graff's
- 10:02job was to make appointments to Groff. Making massage appointments
- 10:06was just another appointment that she had to make for Epstein.
- 10:09Epstein would call Groff in the morning and say something
- 10:12like call redacted and see if she can do a
- 10:14massage at four. Epstein would then call Groff every fifteen minutes.
- 10:19If Groff told Epstein that she could not get redacted,
- 10:22he would tell Graff to call someone else. There was
- 10:25a directory of contacts, not just massage people. Anyone could
- 10:28go in and update the list. Everyone had access. It
- 10:32was just kept on the computer in an old, antiquated system.
- 10:36Groff thought it was just a file on the computer.
- 10:38They used PCs, not Apple computers. They had a message
- 10:42sheet and directory. There was an it guy who came
- 10:44every so often if they had computer problems. When Grof
- 10:48was told to call someone, she would pull the phone
- 10:51number from the directory. Epstein gave Groff a name and
- 10:54phone number, but if the person had been around for
- 10:57a while, the number would be in the computer. For
- 11:00massages in New York at Epstein's residence, Groff scheduled for
- 11:03New York. Graff thought she may have scheduled massage for
- 11:06Epstein's pom Beach residence, but it was not as much.
- 11:09When Epstein left New York and took an assistant with him,
- 11:13the assistant took over the daily things in pom Beach,
- 11:15New Mexico, and Paris. Groff had a call list every
- 11:20day of people she had to call for Epstein outside
- 11:22of New York. Graff did not know who scheduled the
- 11:25massage appointments. Graff did not recall specifically making appointments outside
- 11:29of New York, but stated that it was possible. Graff
- 11:32definitely made appointments in New York. Grot that Maxwell made
- 11:37an extra book. Groff described the book as super thick
- 11:40that was printed in a larger type to see it
- 11:43was a little black book. Maxwell had them printed and bound.
- 11:47Graff thought she wanted to have them on the plane
- 11:50or next to the phones. Groff recalled seeing one on
- 11:53her desk. The black books were around. There was one
- 11:57on Groff's desk when she first started working there. They
- 12:00were next to Epstein's phones on the desk. Groff did
- 12:03not know why she associated the books to Maxwell. They
- 12:06were there before Groff worked there. Groff thought that the
- 12:10books had been updated. Graff did not know where they
- 12:13were printed. Graff did not use the books. She used
- 12:16a computer. Groff thought the books were everywhere, but maybe
- 12:19not in the accounting office. The books were at his homes.
- 12:23They were on the desk and rooms. There were a
- 12:25lot of important people in the books and their phone numbers,
- 12:28including politicians, actors, Wall Street individuals, and royalty. Groff was
- 12:33not supposed to take the book home. Graff thought that
- 12:36the book fizzled out. It made sense that Epstein wanted
- 12:40them next to the phones. It was a tool for contacts.
- 12:43The book went away, but Graff did not know when
- 12:46this happened. They changed over to Mac computers. Epstein wanted
- 12:51to keep things simple. Epstein wanted a list of dentists, scientists, etc.
- 12:55Graft did not think that she was there when the
- 12:58directory was first made, but she was not sure. Maxwell
- 13:03was an office manager and had stationary made. Maxwell may
- 13:07have asked redacted to have them made. Groff thought maybe
- 13:10she was assuming that Maxwell made them Agent note. At
- 13:13this point in the interview, Groff was shown a document
- 13:16with a list of names and contact information. This document
- 13:19is attached in one a Graff advised, this looks like
- 13:23people he'd contact. Groff did not recognize this specific document,
- 13:27but it looked like something Groff could have typed up.
- 13:30Graff recognized the names on the document. It seemed typical
- 13:33of when Epstein with travel a word document. Possibly could
- 13:37have been Groff, who copied and pasted from the directory
- 13:40to word using a Mac computer. Groff could copy and paste,
- 13:44but she did not think she could copy and paste
- 13:46a word using the older computers. The list of people's
- 13:49names and numbers was constant. Agent note. Groff was shown
- 13:54a document titled messuses. This document is attached in one A.
- 13:58Graff advised that this document looked like something that would
- 14:02definitely be in the office that Epstein asked to be
- 14:04put together. There were other documents made for architects, et cetera.
- 14:09Graff advised this document did not look familiar. Groff did
- 14:12not recall making this document, but stated she was not
- 14:15saying that she did not create it. Graff advised the
- 14:19document looked old. Groff recognized the names. To Groff, this
- 14:22was just another list. Graff recalled having to make a
- 14:25list of all the ted speakers when she started. The
- 14:29list printed out would be more for Epstein to take
- 14:31with them. Groff used the directory more agent note. Groff
- 14:36was shown a document with the title Massuses from January.
- 14:39This document is attached in one A. Groff's first thought
- 14:44was that jan men January new user on the document
- 14:47was not significant to Groff. The document stated last saved
- 14:50by Leslie Groff. Graff advised, this look like a list
- 14:53that she could have put together. This was definitely something
- 14:56Epstein would have wanted. It looks like something Groff could
- 14:59have done, but she cannot recall this specific list. Groff
- 15:03made a lot of lists. If Epstein traveled out of town,
- 15:06he would want to see people. Sometimes he would tell
- 15:09Groff to add new people. He went to Harvard, he
- 15:12would want a list of professors he would want to
- 15:14talk with while he was there. When Groff would call
- 15:17the schedule massage appointments, she would say something like, high redacted,
- 15:21how are you. Mister Epstein's in New York and he's
- 15:24wanting to know if you can give him a massage
- 15:26at four. The phone calls were short and to the point.
- 15:30A lot of times when Groff called, the females were
- 15:33at casting calls and they would not know how long
- 15:35they would be there, so they would have to call
- 15:38Groff back. When Epstein would call back for his massage,
- 15:41he would tell Groff to forget that one and call redacted.
- 15:44Groff would call someone else and sometimes have to leave
- 15:47a message. Sometimes Groff heard street noises in the background.
- 15:52Groff called females and mel massuse. Groff distinctly remembered females
- 15:56being on casting calls because it was annoying because she
- 16:00wanted to get on with her day and could not
- 16:03because she had to schedule a massage appointment. Scheduling massage
- 16:07appointments was around one percent of Groff's job. Groff left
- 16:11a lot of messages. People would not answer their phones.
- 16:14Sometimes people call Groff asking to see Epstein for a massage.
- 16:18Everybody wanted to see him anytime Groff called someone, not
- 16:21just massage people. People just jumped to meet with Epstein.
- 16:26Graff thought that Epstein was a money manager. His biggest
- 16:28client was Wexner. Groff knew this from the beginning because
- 16:32of the non disclosure agreement she had to sign. Graff
- 16:34thought that Epstein had other clients. Graff thought Epstein was
- 16:38doing some trades. Epstein would tell Groff to get someone
- 16:42he did not have the number of a trader. Groff
- 16:44had anxiety trying to get a trader. Epstein did a
- 16:47lot with politics. Epstein was a generous person who gave
- 16:51to charity tables and wanted to be anonymous. Epstein seemed
- 16:55very busy. Epstein had an interest in decorating. Groff was
- 16:59ful by the contacts he had all over the world.
- 17:03Graff was impressed by that Groff had to learn how
- 17:05to dial overseas numbers. Maxwell was an office manager. This
- 17:11was how Groff was introduced to Maxwell. Maxwell was Epstein's
- 17:14best friend. Graff saw Epstein torch Maxwell at times. He
- 17:18was angry with her. Epstein got mad at his attorneys
- 17:21in the office. Sometimes Maxwell left with her head down.
- 17:25Graff did not like hering Epstein yell at chance, but
- 17:28he did not walk out defeated. Epstein and Maxwell were confidants.
- 17:32Graff knew Epstein built maxwell Or house. Graff thought redacted
- 17:36told her this it was just bought and under construction.
- 17:40Graff thought that Epstein and Maxwell were boyfriend and girlfriend.
- 17:43They were very care free. They did not spend every
- 17:45moment together. Groff thought that Epstein cared for Maxwell and
- 17:49she cared for him. Epstein and Maxwell did not live together.
- 17:52Graff did not know where Maxwell was living while her
- 17:55house was being built. When Graft first started Maxwell help
- 17:59with the rules, Maxwell told her that when Epstein calls
- 18:02Groff to give requirements. If Graft did not understand something,
- 18:06to stop them then and do not wait until the end,
- 18:09because it'll make Epstein mad. Epstein was famous for talking
- 18:12under his breath and mumbling. Graff did not have normal
- 18:15conversations with Maxwell. Graff did not talk to Maxwell about
- 18:19her wedding or when she was pregnant. Maxwell would come
- 18:22and go from the office and bring her dog into
- 18:25the office. Maxwell had her own driver. There was a
- 18:28guy who was the driver and a girl who was
- 18:30the maid. Looking back, Graff did not know how much
- 18:34managing Maxwell actually did. When Maxwell's house was being built,
- 18:38that was her priority. Maxwell was in the office next
- 18:41to Groff Agent Note. At this point the interview, Groff
- 18:45was shown a black book. This book is one A
- 18:48nine in case file seventy two mm dash eleven three
- 18:53three two seven. Graff advised that this book did not
- 18:57look like the one that she saw. The one Groff
- 18:59saw had larger writing. It was the same size, but
- 19:04the one she remembered had a thicker binding. Graff thought
- 19:07it was probably the same. Information inside This information would
- 19:10have been in the directory to Groff's recollection. It looked
- 19:14the same. Graff recalled the directory was alphabetical. Groff did
- 19:19not have conversations with Maxwell about massages. Groff worked nine
- 19:22to five. Epstein did not contact Groff on the weekends.
- 19:27Groff remembered Maxwell called Bella, who was from Russia, about
- 19:30the KGB. Maxwell had to check every invoice. Maxwell smiled
- 19:35and was happy, except when Epstein got upset with her.
- 19:38Maxwell talked to everybody. It seemed business related. For a
- 19:42Dacta traveled with Maxwell on Epstein's plane. Epstein and Maxwell
- 19:46were volatile. One moment Epstein would be screaming and the
- 19:50next he would be down to business. Maxwell tended to
- 19:53carry it and leave. Groff thought the whole office seemed happy,
- 19:57like the employees were happy and it was a nice
- 19:59place to work. Sometimes Groff was asked to messenger money
- 20:03for massages, and sometimes Jojo took money for the massages
- 20:07to give to people. Epstein sent everything by messenger. Epstein
- 20:11sent things fed x. Groff got the money from accounting
- 20:15and would pay someone around one hundred. Groff would type
- 20:18a message to Bella. Groff thought Bella had the petty
- 20:21cash box. Bella put money in an envelope, then it
- 20:25would be put in a messenger box. Jojo or a
- 20:28messenger would pick it up. This did not happen all
- 20:31the time, but rather some of the time. No one
- 20:33ever came to the office to pick up money except
- 20:36Jojoe or the manager. Groff never went to Epstein's house
- 20:40until twenty thirteen, Groff went to Epstein's island. Groff was
- 20:45at a wedding on Tortola. Epstein told Groff she should
- 20:48go to the island. Epstein was not on the island
- 20:51when she went. Miles Alexander and Kathy Alexander fed Groff
- 20:56and her husband lunch. Then they went back on a
- 21:00trip with her husband to London. Epstein said they could
- 21:03stay at his guest room in Paris. They stayed there
- 21:06a couple of nights and went back to London. Groff
- 21:09did not go to the New Mexico ranch. Groff did
- 21:11not travel with Epstein. All right, folks, Well, there's Leslie
- 21:16Groff's three point two proffer with the FBI agents in
- 21:19her own words, and I wonder how that's going to
- 21:22compare with what she says to Congress later on. And
- 21:25as soon as those transcripts are available, we'll get those
- 21:27added to the catalog. All the information that goes with
- 21:30this episode can be found in the description box.
