- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, they have no right to do this to you.
- 0:02Speaker 1: They just want to use you. Maybe I want to
- 0:04Speaker 1: use them. Maybe you won't use them to make this
- 0:09Speaker 1: country great again. When we're mad, we'll just use our words.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Then the rest of the world will play nice with us,
- 0:15Speaker 1: and the only boom booms will be in our pants.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Maybe you wouldn't be such a bad president, and you
- 0:21Speaker 1: can be my first ladle. I like the sound of.
- 0:24Speaker 2: That fourfinger discount, dude, welcome.
- 0:43Speaker 1: To four figure discount. With this week we hit to
- 0:45Speaker 1: review a pretty shitty episode of The Simpsons. It is
- 0:47Speaker 1: a pluribus Wigham, I'm Dando.
- 0:49Speaker 3: And I am guy. Yes, we're facing some interesting times
- 0:53Speaker 3: in American politics at the moment time.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 0:55Speaker 3: We've addressed the fact that someone took a pot shot
- 0:59Speaker 3: at former president and maybe even future President Donald J.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Trump.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Yeah, we haven't addressed the fact that Diamond Joe Biden
- 1:06Speaker 3: has decided to call it a day. Well, no, he's
- 1:08Speaker 3: still president, but he won't be running for president again.
- 1:12Speaker 3: And Kamala Harris is going to be the front runner
- 1:15Speaker 3: for the Democrats. This is all very very interesting stuff.
- 1:17Speaker 3: It's all very well. It's turbulent times in American politics.
- 1:21Speaker 3: And you know what it is, it's interesting. And that's
- 1:23Speaker 3: the complete opposite the pluribus e pluribus wigam. I was
- 1:26Speaker 3: about to say, e pluribus unham, which is what this
- 1:29Speaker 3: episode takes its title from.
- 1:31Speaker 1: I did find it interesting that all this shit's going
- 1:33Speaker 1: down in American politics the one week we have to
- 1:35Speaker 1: do the American politics episode of the Citizens, it's.
- 1:37Speaker 3: The unified theory or four fingers this out. Yeah, we
- 1:42Speaker 3: just get lucky, I guess it again. We get lucky
- 1:46Speaker 3: in some ways in that, you know, it gives us
- 1:48Speaker 3: stuff to talk about, but it makes us very very
- 1:50Speaker 3: unlucky in that we had to.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Watch this episode. Yeah, before we get into the episode.
- 1:54Speaker 3: You've got other things to talk We've got real life
- 1:57Speaker 3: to talk about, much more interesting, much more fun.
- 1:59Speaker 1: So. Last week we mentioned on the show that I
- 2:02Speaker 1: purchased that it was the Dilemma of the Goalpost for
- 2:05Speaker 1: Elliott's birthday.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Correct.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I ordered it for those of you previously on four
- 2:09Speaker 1: voko discount. I ordered Elliott. He's nanny and Pop from
- 2:13Speaker 1: England got him some afl Ossie rules football goalposts mini
- 2:16Speaker 1: goalposts to set up in the backyard or everyone's set
- 2:19Speaker 1: them up at the oval taking packtice is kicking for goals.
- 2:22Speaker 1: We got them home, they were snapped. The little poles
- 2:24Speaker 1: pins that held them together were snapped. Took them back
- 2:27Speaker 1: to Rebel Sport. Oh great, they said, yep, no worries,
- 2:29Speaker 1: just grab another one, grabbed another one snapped. I feuman
- 2:33Speaker 1: Elliott's double human. He just wasn't play footy. So then
- 2:36Speaker 1: we basically we go back again and they say we've
- 2:38Speaker 1: got no more. We can send a new one to
- 2:40Speaker 1: your house and if that one's no good, then you
- 2:42Speaker 1: can get a refund. During last week's show, just prior
- 2:45Speaker 1: to last week's show, recording, it arrived and I ta
- 2:48Speaker 1: saying I was going to let you know what happened.
- 2:51Speaker 1: They worked, no snaps, No snaps. I reckon. Now. I
- 2:55Speaker 1: mentioned last week how I read the reviews as I
- 2:57Speaker 1: was leaving the second time, and I said a set
- 3:01Speaker 1: pins were snapped, pick it back, second step pins were snapped,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and I thought, shit, I've just formed for the same thing.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I got this new box, and I realized that this
- 3:10Speaker 1: box was sealed properly. Those last two words, I reckon,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I've got that fucking person's snapped pins boxes.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Oh okay, you think you've got shoddy workmanship or someone's
- 3:18Speaker 3: sort of asleep at the weird.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Just put it back on the the return. Just put
- 3:22Speaker 1: it back on the shelf rather than put it back
- 3:24Speaker 1: into damages or whatever. Who would ever do this sort
- 3:26Speaker 1: of weird house. I have no idea, Dan, and I
- 3:28Speaker 1: have no experience of anything like. But I just thought, okay, well,
- 3:32Speaker 1: it's great. You know, the gol blas a huge success.
- 3:34Speaker 1: He loves it. He's going down there. But not the
- 3:36Speaker 1: cool thing is.
- 3:37Speaker 3: That earlier is going to be the next Tom Hawks.
- 3:39Speaker 1: One cent is going to be that?
- 3:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, So by the way, Tom Hawkins, do you googling folks?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Tom Hawkins local geelong great John Cast footballer hasn't announced
- 3:49Speaker 1: his retirement yet. But just release a memoir. Everyone's like, okay,
- 3:54Speaker 1: so you've just released your own books. It's called Tomahawk,
- 3:56Speaker 1: isn't it. That's called Tom Hawkins. I think it's just
- 3:58Speaker 1: called Tom Hawks. Maybe the story of Tom Hawks was
- 4:00Speaker 1: announced yesterday to.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Be we want to be called dom K, which is
- 4:03Speaker 3: a zick name, but.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Maybe it is. And it was announced yesterday, And I'm thinking,
- 4:07Speaker 1: why would you write a memoir or a book if
- 4:09Speaker 1: your career wasn't finished yet. Hmmm, because wouldn't you want
- 4:14Speaker 1: to if you're gonna play one more game, wouldn't you
- 4:15Speaker 1: want to include that in your memoir.
- 4:19Speaker 3: To quote seeing see music factory, things that make you
- 4:22Speaker 3: go hmm. Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Anyway, so we went down to the local park here
- 4:25Speaker 1: set up the gold posts, and it took about I know,
- 4:29Speaker 1: five minutes, and kids started noticing what's it over there?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Goal posts, gold posts. These two brothers rocked over? Can
- 4:37Speaker 1: I play? Sure thing? They joined in as well, Allix
- 4:39Speaker 1: having a great time playing. Right.
- 4:41Speaker 3: All of a sudden you said, two brothers rocked over
- 4:43Speaker 3: and you of course are wearing your step brothers jump That.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Became best friends. So what happened was these two kids started,
- 4:49Speaker 1: these two boys right. Then all of a sudden, these
- 4:52Speaker 1: two girls and a boy will go into the park
- 4:54Speaker 1: and then note there's gold posts there. Can we join in?
- 4:57Speaker 1: Within about half an hour, I had my own local
- 4:59Speaker 1: footy team, the Dandos. We're gonna be taking on any
- 5:02Speaker 1: local footy league and in Geelong we had like eleven
- 5:05Speaker 1: kids kick of a goal.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Look at Gordon Bombay.
- 5:09Speaker 1: We have a team of misfits and we're going to
- 5:11Speaker 1: take them all on the bad News cats. So I
- 5:17Speaker 1: was pretty I'm like, I've just created this little local league.
- 5:20Speaker 1: This is great.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Football is the great unifiers. Sport is yeah, the sport is,
- 5:24Speaker 3: of course, yes, but the strain rules football, I like
- 5:26Speaker 3: to think, is very very unifying.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It felt like I felt like I was just created
- 5:29Speaker 1: my own like Sandlot kids, but in football formed.
- 5:33Speaker 3: One might even say out of many one yes.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And then the kids. So we're walking down the streets
- 5:40Speaker 1: wink wink, not did this episode Just in case you didn't.
- 5:44Speaker 1: We were walking down the street yesterday taking for a bike,
- 5:46Speaker 1: and the two boys saw we're waiting for yesterday. You
- 5:48Speaker 1: didn't come back because we said, I said we'll come
- 5:51Speaker 1: back tomorrow. And I was like, yea, yeah, sure, no worries,
- 5:52Speaker 1: and I just we just forgot we didn't go yesterday
- 5:54Speaker 1: or the monday. It was, and like we are wait
- 5:57Speaker 1: for you. You weren't there. And when he said he
- 6:01Speaker 1: was coming back, he said he didn't know.
- 6:05Speaker 3: This is good, this is warming stuf.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's cool though, wasn't it that I just up
- 6:08Speaker 1: these gold posts all of a sudden, just kids They
- 6:09Speaker 1: started appearing, just like what's that over there? Jumping fences
- 6:12Speaker 1: and John ren Corners.
- 6:13Speaker 3: My kids have got a little innate radar. Fun is
- 6:16Speaker 3: happening somewhere, or activity is happening somewhere in the vicinity.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I was literally sitting there contemplating, can I coach these
- 6:23Speaker 1: rag tag group of misfits? Can I take on the
- 6:27Speaker 1: kids from you know, the bad news bears from snooty
- 6:30Speaker 1: academy and give my give my little gym Robot House,
- 6:35Speaker 1: the Robert House with the rad tag. Who was the
- 6:37Speaker 1: other one in that I can't remember. It was just
- 6:39Speaker 1: Mars University because Robot House was was the frat that
- 6:42Speaker 1: was always in futurrama anyway, But I thought it was
- 6:45Speaker 1: really cool. That was indeed cool.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Yeah, well, first of one, I'm glad your goalposter finally, Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 3: upstanding and operational.
- 6:52Speaker 1: That's good news. And I'm very glad that Elliotts is
- 6:57Speaker 1: going to be the captain of this Conway of this
- 7:00Speaker 1: team Mighty Duck's reference. You said, God in Bay. I'll
- 7:04Speaker 1: assumed you knew what Charlie Comway would be.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I'm aware of the Mighty Ducks, and I'm aware that
- 7:07Speaker 3: Emilia Estevez's character is named Gordon Bombay. Beyond that, I
- 7:10Speaker 3: don't really know much about the Mighty Ducks.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Pacy was in them, Pacey. Who's Paisy Joshua Jackson? Oh? Yes, yes?
- 7:17Speaker 1: Or is that he's character from Dawson's Creek? Is it?
- 7:18Speaker 1: That's kinda wat Dawston's Creek? But yes he is. Charlie.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Here's Charlie Comway.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Never go, I never watched Mardy Ducks, but we're learning.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yes, he's named Charlie Conway, Mighty Ducks's named Passy and
- 7:28Speaker 1: Dawson's Creek we learned things. Yeah, we're exchanging ideas. Yes,
- 7:32Speaker 1: what are you going an antidote forest before we get
- 7:33Speaker 1: into this shiit show?
- 7:34Speaker 3: I got fuck all.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I just realized I'd written favorite Moments or trivia or
- 7:38Speaker 1: anything I've got trua. I was so, actually I do
- 7:40Speaker 1: I do? I don't favorite moments, I've got trivia. I
- 7:42Speaker 1: just want to say, okay, e Pluribrius Wigham, right, or
- 7:45Speaker 1: do you have an eight day first or not? I
- 7:47Speaker 1: have no anecdote? Okay. So, first of all, it was
- 7:50Speaker 1: three minutes before anything of substance of sub substance happened
- 7:53Speaker 1: in this episode, right, So you had a two minute
- 7:55Speaker 1: couch gag and opening intro and in a minute of
- 7:58Speaker 1: Burns being distract or trying to get Owns away from
- 8:00Speaker 1: work so they can leave work early, homerte Lenear and Carl.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So I've got three minutes and nothing's happened, right, I
- 8:05Speaker 1: don't even leave work early.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But they've got that thing where oh, we can't leave
- 8:08Speaker 3: until the boss leaves, which has never really come up
- 8:10Speaker 3: the fall.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I assumed they were leaving work early, That's why I
- 8:14Speaker 1: had to wait for him to leave. But why was
- 8:15Speaker 1: the boss? And it didn't make sense. None of them
- 8:17Speaker 1: made sense anyway. My big issue with this was that
- 8:21Speaker 1: you wasted three minutes of our time, three minutes of
- 8:25Speaker 1: TV time on absolutely nothing, a couch gag and a
- 8:28Speaker 1: gag that made no sense. It went nowhere right and
- 8:30Speaker 1: added nothing to the episode. And then you couldn't even
- 8:33Speaker 1: give us an ending, So you got three minutes of nothing,
- 8:36Speaker 1: nineteen minutes of a story, and at the end there
- 8:38Speaker 1: was no ending this. Why are they now deciding episodes
- 8:43Speaker 1: don't need endings. There was a point in time where
- 8:45Speaker 1: they went, oh, let's just wrap this up quickly, and
- 8:47Speaker 1: it was almost like a gag that we didn't even
- 8:49Speaker 1: get that here. It was just and that's the end.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Williams going for now, he's really smart, He's going for
- 8:54Speaker 1: a president. Here's his commercial end of the episode, and
- 8:56Speaker 1: I went, what what what's happened with happens next?
- 9:01Speaker 3: My final note about this episode? Okay, so what was
- 9:04Speaker 3: the point? Yeah, because this was the point of this episode.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Kids aren't going to enjoy. Kids are not going to
- 9:09Speaker 3: enjoy this episode.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I don't think adults are going to want adults. It's
- 9:12Speaker 1: a very niche target audience. It's incredibly me because if
- 9:17Speaker 1: you don't understand American politics, and I think Americans just
- 9:19Speaker 1: seemed to think that we all understand American politics and
- 9:22Speaker 1: we're all interested in it. Maybe when you got wackos
- 9:25Speaker 1: like Trump, yes, maybe, but the ins and outs and
- 9:27Speaker 1: all the different politicians, Yeah, the majority of people outside
- 9:29Speaker 1: the States don't give a shit.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah, when it becomes a side show, yeah, or when
- 9:33Speaker 3: it becomes a circus, as it often does around election time.
- 9:36Speaker 3: But when you're getting down to the nitty gritty and
- 9:38Speaker 3: the minutia of electoral colleges and primaries and all that
- 9:42Speaker 3: kind of stuff, yeah, I think, first of well, we're
- 9:44Speaker 3: gonna have a lot of Americans going I'm not really
- 9:47Speaker 3: quite grasping this, they're just you know why a lot
- 9:50Speaker 3: of Americans don't go to the polls, then people outside
- 9:53Speaker 3: of America are going to go. I can't make it
- 9:56Speaker 3: or tail of this shit. What you had with this episode,
- 9:59Speaker 3: to my mind at least, was a combination, a really
- 10:01Speaker 3: toxic combination of incredibly dense and unbearably smug. This I've
- 10:09Speaker 3: that was my key word from this episode was the
- 10:11Speaker 3: Simpsons has become smug for a number of reasons, the
- 10:14Speaker 3: politics aside. Right, there was a gag in here where
- 10:18Speaker 3: Homer gets out cigars called jerkass Homer right, courtesy of
- 10:23Speaker 3: our friend Al Jean. Apparently this gag.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I have issue with this because that says to me
- 10:30Speaker 1: that you're listening, or you at least acknowledging that you
- 10:33Speaker 1: are aware of the gripes that your audience has with
- 10:36Speaker 1: the direction of your show. Now right back in two
- 10:38Speaker 1: thousand and eight one in this ad, the problem is
- 10:43Speaker 1: acknowledging it and then doubling down on it, and we're
- 10:45Speaker 1: basically saying to the audience, we know you don't like it,
- 10:47Speaker 1: but fuck it, we're going to do it anyway.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yeah, there's acknowledging it, and then there's revering in it.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Looks like we're doing here. Like it or don't, We
- 10:53Speaker 1: don't give a shit, we're going to be doing it.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I thought, that's the only result you're going to get
- 10:58Speaker 1: from doing that is not get laughs, is going to
- 11:00Speaker 1: alienate your audience. And you know what happens at this
- 11:02Speaker 1: point in time, the Simpsons, they alienated their audience. It
- 11:05Speaker 1: wasn't just because you started to alienate it by making
- 11:08Speaker 1: Homer a joke, Cass, but then by acknowledging if I
- 11:10Speaker 1: was watching this, Okay, I'd given up on The Simpsons
- 11:12Speaker 1: by this point, watching it at week to week to week.
- 11:15Speaker 1: But if I was watching it week to week to
- 11:16Speaker 1: week and I saw that gag, I'll watched this episode.
- 11:19Speaker 1: This would be the episode e Pluripus Wigan where I
- 11:21Speaker 1: would go tows thrown in. I'm done because you've basically
- 11:24Speaker 1: said to me, you don't give a shit about what
- 11:26Speaker 1: I think anymore. Just enjoy what we're doing, and I
- 11:28Speaker 1: don't enjoy it. How could you possibly enjoy the joke, Cass? Homer.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You've proven last week eternal moonshot of the Simpsons mind
- 11:34Speaker 1: we can get lovely Homer. You still know how to
- 11:37Speaker 1: do it. So, why in God's name would you still
- 11:39Speaker 1: do this kind of stuff and acknowledge to your audience.
- 11:41Speaker 1: We know you have an issue with joke carss Homer,
- 11:42Speaker 1: but we're going to do it anyway, So sit down,
- 11:44Speaker 1: shut up, and just enjoy it. Yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 3: I don't think anyone has as it's ridiculous. I think
- 11:48Speaker 3: people have a problem with jerk as Homer, absolutely. I
- 11:51Speaker 3: think I don't think they have a problem with Homer
- 11:53Speaker 3: being a jerk, as long as it's something that he
- 11:57Speaker 3: either learns from or is actually kind of funny. Yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 3: and hope hopefully a combination.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Of the two doesn't get any repercussions for his actions here. Right,
- 12:05Speaker 1: And it made sense to me because the right Michael
- 12:07Speaker 1: Price Right. So Price and his son came up with
- 12:10Speaker 1: the episode's opening set piece is off Wikipedia struck. During
- 12:14Speaker 1: a drive in California, they stopped at a Burger king.
- 12:17Speaker 1: They had a long scoop on its trash can for
- 12:19Speaker 1: customers to throw away trash from their car. His son commented,
- 12:22Speaker 1: Homer would love that he's so lazy. This led to
- 12:25Speaker 1: the creation of the fast Food Boulevard, with Price's son
- 12:28Speaker 1: suggesting the name of the fast food I seeing that
- 12:31Speaker 1: the episode going, you couldn't think of a creative name.
- 12:33Speaker 1: He just went fast food Boulevard.
- 12:34Speaker 3: I think Price's son actually suggested Vesuvius Pizza. I think
- 12:37Speaker 3: that's the thing that he suggested as opposed to fast
- 12:39Speaker 3: food Boulevard.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Or maybe he did both. No, When in the episode
- 12:42Speaker 1: when Homer destroys Fast Food Boulevard, a restaurant, okay, maybe
- 12:46Speaker 1: you're right there, name Yeah Pizza is shown exploding with
- 12:49Speaker 1: pizza sauce coming out of its top like lava. The
- 12:51Speaker 1: joke was pitched by Price's son, who had been learning
- 12:53Speaker 1: about volcanoes in school and in all no no, no,
- 12:56Speaker 1: no creation the fast food Boulevard, with Price's son suggesting
- 12:59Speaker 1: the name. So he suggested the joke as well as
- 13:02Speaker 1: the name of fast Food Boulevard, both things. So this
- 13:04Speaker 1: whole scene was written by a child, and it felt
- 13:07Speaker 1: that way. It kind of in the nicest possible way
- 13:09Speaker 1: for the child. I get it, he's a child, but
- 13:12Speaker 1: I'll give.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Him due respect for Vesuvius Pizza with thought, which I
- 13:15Speaker 3: thought was actually kind of funny, and honestly, I would
- 13:17Speaker 3: eat that fast Food Boulevard. However, you that that's very placeholder,
- 13:21Speaker 3: isn't it.
- 13:22Speaker 1: It just felt like it became a.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Boulevard with a lot of fast foods.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Come up with a funny name. That's that's like they
- 13:27Speaker 1: get too angsty about the name of the fast food boulevard.
- 13:30Speaker 1: The thing is, though, Homer blows up fast food Boulevard
- 13:34Speaker 1: and then he's one saying we need to rebuild it.
- 13:36Speaker 1: There's no repercussions. It's makes no fucking sense, we need
- 13:40Speaker 1: to rebuild it. He doesn't get any repercussions from his
- 13:42Speaker 1: stupid actions. He then is the guy that says we
- 13:45Speaker 1: need to put Wigham in charge.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Like, yeah, first of all, Homer aware that he's actually
- 13:49Speaker 3: blown up. No, he doesn't know, no, So it's it's
- 13:53Speaker 3: understandable that yeah, yeah, I would think, oh well, if
- 13:58Speaker 3: he knew that he blew it up, then maybe him
- 14:00Speaker 3: sort of doing a bit of a shifty cover up.
- 14:02Speaker 3: It's jerk ass behavior, but it's also kind of funny.
- 14:05Speaker 3: I like it when Homer is kind of devious that look,
- 14:10Speaker 3: there were so I suppose I was so disjointed in
- 14:13Speaker 3: so many ways that it was just hard to get
- 14:15Speaker 3: a handle on. I mean, you you weren't flowing smoothly
- 14:19Speaker 3: through it. One thing did not lead to another, or
- 14:21Speaker 3: if it did, you could really see the joins. The
- 14:23Speaker 3: scenes were not seamless. They were very, very broaden and
- 14:27Speaker 3: odd colored. Threat it's like, oh, well, you're patching together
- 14:30Speaker 3: a bunch of ideas. You've got a Frankenstein's Monster of
- 14:31Speaker 3: an episode here. You know you want to cover politics,
- 14:34Speaker 3: how do you get to that? Only I don't have
- 14:37Speaker 3: your traditional I don't know, Homer fucking.
- 14:40Speaker 1: It doesn't really Also for me, I don't really I
- 14:43Speaker 1: do not understand the ins and outs of American politics
- 14:45Speaker 1: all that much, right, I know, than basics. But Lisa
- 14:48Speaker 1: even points out here you have to be thirty five
- 14:50Speaker 1: to be a candidate. Why would you have one of
- 14:52Speaker 1: your characters point out that this story actually doesn't make
- 14:55Speaker 1: any sense. Like if you just get to pretend that
- 14:58Speaker 1: thlow the rules out the window and just pretend look,
- 14:59Speaker 1: just in the Simpsons University, this can happen, that's fine.
- 15:02Speaker 1: But to have listen then go, this can't actually happen
- 15:04Speaker 1: because he's not old enough. But then but then you
- 15:06Speaker 1: see his campaign and it's like, but you've just told
- 15:09Speaker 1: us it can't happen. And they're like, oh the Patriot Act,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and I'm oh it just did my head in.
- 15:14Speaker 3: But one thing I was thinking while watching this, however,
- 15:17Speaker 3: is okay, you want to do political sato, and you
- 15:20Speaker 3: want to do it about American politics and particularly about
- 15:22Speaker 3: you know, the convoluted.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Way it operates. It's done a lot better in the past.
- 15:25Speaker 3: They have done a lot better in the past. But
- 15:26Speaker 3: here's the thing. Okay, the show is called The Simpsons.
- 15:29Speaker 3: It's about a town called Springfield. Springfield has got a
- 15:31Speaker 3: lot of people in It's got some very smart people,
- 15:32Speaker 3: it's got some very dumb people. Okay, the dumb people
- 15:35Speaker 3: in this case, they're going to say, I don't understand politics.
- 15:38Speaker 3: I don't understand Yeah, what's the primary about it? I
- 15:41Speaker 3: mean what you can just nominate anyone, but then any
- 15:43Speaker 3: party can someone sort of claim them. That's when you've
- 15:46Speaker 3: got someone smart, say Lisa come along and say, well,
- 15:49Speaker 3: you know, the way American politics work, or the way
- 15:51Speaker 3: the primary works is this, And they explain it to
- 15:53Speaker 3: a dumb character who also is us also me, because yeah,
- 15:57Speaker 3: the dumb characters are sorry for me, who understands nothing
- 15:59Speaker 3: about American politics. Here they just I don't know. It
- 16:04Speaker 3: felt like you know what we're gonna We're gonna pitch
- 16:06Speaker 3: this to the smartest person in the refridge.
- 16:08Speaker 1: But they wrote a show for themselves, well they yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 1: they really did.
- 16:11Speaker 3: It really felt like in the room they were one
- 16:14Speaker 3: uping each other with oh, yeah, I've been watching a
- 16:17Speaker 3: bit of c and then oh, well I've been watching
- 16:18Speaker 3: c SPAN. Yeah, I think I've got to handle on
- 16:21Speaker 3: how politics. Oh, by the way, isn't the way the
- 16:24Speaker 3: media handles politics? Doesn't that become kind of a circus.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Let's take the piss out of that a bit as well. Yeah,
- 16:29Speaker 3: it really felt to go back to the S word,
- 16:32Speaker 3: It just felt unbearably smug.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And on the topic of smug, right, I bring up
- 16:37Speaker 1: how I'm sick of the list gags already in season
- 16:39Speaker 1: nineteen there was a point in time where the Simpsons
- 16:42Speaker 1: signed gags where they were just a backdrop. They were
- 16:45Speaker 1: if you weren't paying attention, they were there for the
- 16:47Speaker 1: smartest person in the room to go, did you see
- 16:49Speaker 1: that joke? Like you didn't? A freeze frames ex easter
- 16:53Speaker 1: ex exactly right. But now they have become the look
- 16:57Speaker 1: how smart our signs are, and they almost the joke.
- 17:01Speaker 1: They aren't just signs they're going past anymore. It's when
- 17:03Speaker 1: home was going down the boulevard. It's sign science science.
- 17:06Speaker 1: It's almost got to a point me to acknowledge us creativity.
- 17:10Speaker 3: They're lingering on it just a little bit too long.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Used to be, you would see it for look, I'm
- 17:15Speaker 3: not sending a stop watch or anything like that, but
- 17:17Speaker 3: you'd see a newspaper headline or a street sign, and.
- 17:20Speaker 1: It'd always be a subheading that was really funny. Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Now they would focus on on the screen for maybe
- 17:25Speaker 3: three seconds whatever, and yeah, if you've got oh hey, hey,
- 17:28Speaker 3: that's a nice little.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Addition to that. Hidden gags, hidden gags.
- 17:33Speaker 3: And now they're very much in your face. And look,
- 17:37Speaker 3: I don't like things in my face. I've told you
- 17:38Speaker 3: there's many times down I stop putting things in my face.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Well, you tell me your safe word next time. What
- 17:43Speaker 1: would be your safe word, Palomino? I remember that the
- 17:47Speaker 1: next time. But the joke ass Home, I just really
- 17:50Speaker 1: it really bothered me. And just I just thought, how
- 17:53Speaker 1: disrespectful to your fans to acknowledge that we hear issues
- 17:58Speaker 1: we don't care.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Ridiculous, unless, of course, this is a final farewell to
- 18:04Speaker 3: Jerkar's homer, which I doubt it is.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I would say it's probably not because they seem quite
- 18:10Speaker 1: proud of the fat.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:11Speaker 1: They seem to be really just steering into it, don't they. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 1: it's an odd one. My favorite. I mentioned earlier, I
- 18:20Speaker 1: didn't have any favorite moments. Did you have any favorite moments?
- 18:23Speaker 3: I have precisely three?
- 18:25Speaker 1: Okay, okay.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Then when they're in New Hampshire, Dan Rather and all
- 18:31Speaker 3: the other media types leave because it's happening in Springfield
- 18:34Speaker 3: where the Simpsons are, and there's the couple the diner. Yeah, well,
- 18:39Speaker 3: I've said my name is Martha and I'm going to
- 18:41Speaker 3: have to kill him. That's a reference to one of
- 18:42Speaker 3: my favorite movies, Sergia Landi is fantastic lesson Once upon
- 18:46Speaker 3: a Time in the West, which stars the great Hollywood
- 18:50Speaker 3: star Henry Fonder, known for playing good guys and great
- 18:53Speaker 3: upstanding characters. Sergei Ilioni made him a victim who shoots
- 18:56Speaker 3: a kid because, yeah, one of his hensman says, what
- 18:59Speaker 3: are we going to do with kid? Frank, Well, I
- 19:01Speaker 3: know that you said my name. People were like, what.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Well, that's kind of like remember Breaking Bad. When that happens,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you're like, oh shit, they did it.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not pro killing kids in real life, but
- 19:14Speaker 3: when you're doing on screen kind of cool.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Well, I always say to Nicola. Usually in most shows
- 19:18Speaker 1: that we watched, whether it be a Law and Order
- 19:20Speaker 1: or easy not the easy going shows, but they're more
- 19:22Speaker 1: commercially friendly versions of crime shows. Usually the kids are safe,
- 19:27Speaker 1: babies are safe, and animals are usually safe. But sometimes
- 19:30Speaker 1: they go down and they injure a kid WEP, and
- 19:33Speaker 1: you're like, oh fuck, and they feel real bad.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Usually the episodes you remember, I mean, you're a Laurwa
- 19:39Speaker 3: and Order guy. Yount was a regular Law and Order
- 19:42Speaker 3: or Laura and.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Order SPU or criminal in well, no, but I'm thinking
- 19:46Speaker 1: about a particular episode where it was Colmic Glachlin from
- 19:49Speaker 1: Twin Peaks. Oh, yes, yes, he's has.
- 19:52Speaker 3: His son been killed by someone, by a little boy
- 19:55Speaker 3: who turned out to be like an irredeemable psychopath. Yeah,
- 19:58Speaker 3: and Colma Glochlain and grabs like the bailiff's gun or
- 20:00Speaker 3: something and shoots the kid in the courtroom.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it's in the hallway maybe, yeah, or
- 20:05Speaker 1: something like that, and you're like, I only deserved that.
- 20:08Speaker 1: You didn't expect it. That Brad headed Ken. So that
- 20:13Speaker 1: was one of his favorite moment.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I like that very much.
- 20:15Speaker 1: It's being injured usually make guy's favorite moments. Yes, love it.
- 20:20Speaker 3: I enjoyed mo When asked about his political creation, I
- 20:25Speaker 3: registered something.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I knew there'll be there's moments in here.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I just haven't written a bit.
- 20:31Speaker 3: And we're all a fan of when we enter Homer's
- 20:35Speaker 3: brain and it's either it's a circus monkey or it's
- 20:40Speaker 3: a lazy donkey or something like that. This time his
- 20:44Speaker 3: thought processes are clear, concise, correct. Well, I'm not allowed
- 20:47Speaker 3: to get one right.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I didn't mind Clinton on the phone to Hillary saying

- 22:41Speaker 1: it is now time we get into at trivia. Next
- 22:44Speaker 1: question you there eating the beast. My first question for
- 22:48Speaker 1: you as I score bake up to the trivia is
- 22:50Speaker 1: it's the name of a place. I can't remember what
- 22:52Speaker 1: the question would have been. Now've written the answer. Can't
- 22:54Speaker 1: remember the question? Okay, jeopardy, then I remember Homer says,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I think it was listing off places that are now gone,
- 23:00Speaker 1: and it's start as Captain something. I'll give you the clue. Yeah,
- 23:05Speaker 1: it's Captain Conduction Schnitzel Palace.
- 23:06Speaker 3: That's right.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I think he's talking about all the places that are
- 23:08Speaker 1: now gone, and he's really sad about it, and he's like,
- 23:10Speaker 1: oh propse, I wouldn't try. Yeah, I asked my question
- 23:13Speaker 1: and answered from stuff.
- 23:16Speaker 3: We'll speaking of Homer and eating. Yeah, what is he
- 23:19Speaker 3: expecting to eat when he when he's on the phone
- 23:21Speaker 3: to March, he's like, get the someone, so ready?
- 23:24Speaker 1: Is it defied bacon?
- 23:25Speaker 3: It's deep fried pork chops.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Pork chops. You were close and you're in the we're
- 23:28Speaker 1: in the same magical meat. I do like that the
- 23:30Speaker 1: consistency there that Homer's favorite meal from Marge is always
- 23:34Speaker 1: her pork chops. Well, everyone's got the basics, meat and
- 23:38Speaker 1: vench So my next question for you is how many
- 23:41Speaker 1: restaurants were destroyed? It's two parter and what were they rated?
- 23:45Speaker 3: There were thirty seven restaurants have destroyed and they ranged
- 23:47Speaker 3: from awful to mediocre.
- 23:48Speaker 1: See, now that we're on camera, people can say that
- 23:50Speaker 1: you're reading off your notes, so that so they no,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I don't care that you're doing that. But now it's
- 23:54Speaker 1: like I used to edit it together so that sounds
- 23:56Speaker 1: like you were smart, But now that it's like, hey,
- 23:58Speaker 1: he's got the answer written in front of him. Smart.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I was smart enough to write this, Dad, right there
- 24:02Speaker 3: you go. Yes, Well, my my next question to you
- 24:05Speaker 3: is actually related to that. What was the life span
- 24:08Speaker 3: of fast food Boulevard?
- 24:11Speaker 1: Ah, it was nineteen seventy seven? Was it that? When
- 24:14Speaker 1: it is that? When it started? It was the seventies. A, right,
- 24:17Speaker 1: it was seventy eight.
- 24:19Speaker 3: No, you're going in the wrong dirrecty.
- 24:21Speaker 1: What is it? Nineteen seventy two? So it would have
- 24:24Speaker 1: been thirty the lifespan, which is the years that it was,
- 24:28Speaker 1: so thirty six years.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Okay, it was nineteen seventy two to two thousand and eight.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Yeah, thirty six years. Yeah, sorry, I should have I
- 24:35Speaker 1: phrased my question inelegantly. Yeah, what year there was it?
- 24:38Speaker 1: They kept giving you a lifespan?
- 24:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's mean thing. You would think that I would not.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I was going to try for one more question for
- 24:47Speaker 1: you as I'm scoll strolling through my notes. Okay, well,
- 24:50Speaker 1: what hotel was it? So? Residents in by Higher Embassy suites,
- 24:54Speaker 1: by Courtyard by Marriott dash Are something hotel that's where
- 24:58Speaker 1: the Republicans were having their folk group.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Oh look, I probably had my head in my hands
- 25:02Speaker 3: like this. Okay at this stage, so I start Wood
- 25:04Speaker 3: Hotel Star War.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I was just gimming through my notes though, and this
- 25:07Speaker 1: was another thing I had just on an issue because
- 25:09Speaker 1: I know this is an American show, so they making
- 25:12Speaker 1: American politics. But when they used to take on politics
- 25:15Speaker 1: in the past, and the Simpsons, they didn't double down
- 25:19Speaker 1: and have so many references to politicians of that time.
- 25:22Speaker 1: It was just about the politics in general, just the
- 25:24Speaker 1: system in general, and they would replace politicians with sideshow
- 25:27Speaker 1: Bob going for mayor or things like that. It would
- 25:30Speaker 1: still be doing the same thing and taking the piss
- 25:32Speaker 1: out of the political system, but they weren't doubling down
- 25:35Speaker 1: and having references to actual politicians. Because now you watch
- 25:37Speaker 1: this in twenty twenty four, and all the references of
- 25:39Speaker 1: the people hand make absolutely no sense. No one knows
- 25:43Speaker 1: who any of these people are anymore.
- 25:44Speaker 3: The only one I knew was Fred Thompson, and that's because,
- 25:46Speaker 3: as they say, he was in dire hard too in
- 25:48Speaker 3: the Hunt for Red October.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I knew the just like I was gonna get down
- 25:53Speaker 1: to that moment. But the thing is, all these people,
- 25:55Speaker 1: no one knows who they are outside of the States
- 25:58Speaker 1: mostly anyway, and b in twenty twenty four, I mean,
- 26:00Speaker 1: even still politicians. And it's just it makes the show. Really,
- 26:03Speaker 1: it's such a dated it's such a weird episode to
- 26:06Speaker 1: make it goes against everything the Simpsons is always done.
- 26:09Speaker 3: It really did didn't it. I mean, yeah, it felt
- 26:11Speaker 3: like a time capsule, but in the worst possible way.
- 26:13Speaker 3: It's like opening a time captures, like we didn't close
- 26:15Speaker 3: this properly. Now everything's molding and smelling and discussing.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I think John Stewart's appearance was weird. Even he feels
- 26:21Speaker 1: dated now. John Stewart, Yeah, I mean he's.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Back, but yeah, John Seward feels.
- 26:26Speaker 1: His appearance here was so bland. It was.
- 26:29Speaker 3: John Seward feels like he was very relevant a very
- 26:32Speaker 3: particular time. I like the guy. I think he's very
- 26:34Speaker 3: very funny. I think he's he was able to in
- 26:37Speaker 3: this time. The Daily Show was huge. Absolutely.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I don't know how funny or insightful he is these days.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I don't really pay much attention to the way he's
- 26:48Speaker 3: covering politics or the way he's covering current affairs these days,
- 26:51Speaker 3: but certainly in this time it was like, oh, well,
- 26:54Speaker 3: politics is a bit of a circus. We might need
- 26:56Speaker 3: a bit of a ring master, and we got that
- 26:57Speaker 3: in Stewart, But in this episode, yeah, it felt like
- 27:02Speaker 3: an un easy combination of political commentator and also comedian.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Well, for me, he always he seemed fearless. John Stewart
- 27:12Speaker 1: because I was only in my teens early teens when
- 27:15Speaker 1: he was sort of a thing. But you seem on
- 27:17Speaker 1: TV and he was like the guy that would have
- 27:19Speaker 1: no fear to take on the politicians and say what
- 27:20Speaker 1: he thought. Right in this episode here, it just came
- 27:23Speaker 1: across as if he was timid and he was polite,
- 27:25Speaker 1: and he should have been like really going at Krusty.
- 27:28Speaker 3: He should have, shouldn't he?
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it was just weird, really tepid.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Are we doing any more trivia questions? Because I have
- 27:33Speaker 3: one more for it?
- 27:34Speaker 1: Oh, go hit me one more.
- 27:35Speaker 3: What is dumont Evans's media outlets slate dot com?
- 27:40Speaker 1: He's from slave dot that's the thing, right it is?
- 27:42Speaker 1: But Wigham, So let's skim through this episode, shall we.
- 27:45Speaker 1: So the original air date of the episode was January sixth,
- 27:49Speaker 1: two thousand and eight, so it was the first episode
- 27:50Speaker 1: two thousand and eight. Actually, another thing I need to
- 27:52Speaker 1: point out apparently this aired almost an entire year after
- 27:56Speaker 1: A Bumble was nominated as the representative. So, as you said,
- 28:00Speaker 1: what was the point of this episode? Because you watch
- 28:02Speaker 1: the end of it, you kind of get to the
- 28:03Speaker 1: point where you think, Okay, they're trying to say vote
- 28:06Speaker 1: for the right person, or pick the right person, but
- 28:09Speaker 1: we already knew who the yeah, who the representatives were
- 28:12Speaker 1: at this points of what are we doing here?
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah, all the American system is flawed and we're just
- 28:16Speaker 3: picking any old clown when it was kind of obvious
- 28:19Speaker 3: from the initial picking of Obama, who was not necessarily
- 28:22Speaker 3: all that well known, but it was clear that this
- 28:24Speaker 3: was a breath of fresh air for American politics in
- 28:26Speaker 3: so many ways. Yeah, yeah, and this sort of runs
- 28:30Speaker 3: counter to that.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Think about this though, is I think it's a victim
- 28:32Speaker 1: of the Simpsons. They take nine months to make an episode,
- 28:35Speaker 1: so maybe when they started pitching this idea putting things together,
- 28:38Speaker 1: Obama hadn't quite been nominated yet or put his.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Hand up or whatever.
- 28:42Speaker 1: And by the time they already started making it, they
- 28:44Speaker 1: can't Once I've started, they can't go, well, we can't
- 28:46Speaker 1: make it now.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Well maybe they should have just done a Batwoman and
- 28:48Speaker 3: Sheldon and then put on a repeat.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, this episode man so production code kab F
- 28:55Speaker 1: zero three written by Michael Price. I mean, great writer.
- 28:58Speaker 3: It's just.
- 29:01Speaker 1: His name's on it, but you can tell this is
- 29:02Speaker 1: just the writer's room. This is a group effort in
- 29:05Speaker 1: the worst way, Yes, and directed by Mike Frank Paulsen,
- 29:08Speaker 1: who was apparently nominated for a Writer's Guild of America
- 29:10Speaker 1: award for the directing of this episode, not the content,
- 29:14Speaker 1: just the directing side of things. So nominated for Best
- 29:16Speaker 1: Direction by the Writers Guild. By the Writer's Guild of America. Yeah,
- 29:21Speaker 1: the chopboall gag teacher did not pay too much for
- 29:23Speaker 1: her condo. I don't know why that rub me the
- 29:25Speaker 1: wrong way. It just felt so smarmy. It seems like
- 29:29Speaker 1: something Bart wouldn't say. Again, they're not writing Bart as
- 29:33Speaker 1: a ten year old anymore. They're writing gags. That makes them.
- 29:35Speaker 1: It's the writers writing jokes for themselves. They're not. There
- 29:39Speaker 1: was a point in time. I know, I'm just geting
- 29:41Speaker 1: on a bit of a rant here, but Harry Shearer
- 29:43Speaker 1: once said to us, I know this is even on
- 29:47Speaker 1: the record when he said this to us, pretty sure
- 29:49Speaker 1: it was. I'm gonna say it anyway. There came a
- 29:51Speaker 1: point where he realized they weren't writing jokes for characters anymore.
- 29:56Speaker 1: They were just writing jokes and assigning it to characters. Yes,
- 29:59Speaker 1: that's exactly what this was. They aren't writing jokes. That
- 30:03Speaker 1: what would Bart be right? What would he be punished for?
- 30:05Speaker 1: What would what would Bart say to missus k What
- 30:07Speaker 1: would he say? It's just we're writing jokes. Now throw
- 30:10Speaker 1: it on the short game. Which character can say this?
- 30:13Speaker 1: Let's just give it to Cletus, Let's just give it
- 30:14Speaker 1: to Principal Skinner. It doesn't matter who's saying it. It's
- 30:17Speaker 1: just here's a joke. A scientist. Just put somebody, give
- 30:20Speaker 1: it to somebody. And that's when he realized what's the point,
- 30:23Speaker 1: Because he said I was said to I literally said
- 30:25Speaker 1: to them, he said ned Flanders wouldn't say this, and
- 30:29Speaker 1: they didn't care. And that's when he went, what am
- 30:32Speaker 1: I bothering for? Yeah, you've got no continuity of character,
- 30:34Speaker 1: and it affects It affects the structural integrity of the show.
- 30:38Speaker 1: And it would affect I'm not saying would affect the
- 30:40Speaker 1: performance because they're professionals, right, but it'd have to annoy
- 30:43Speaker 1: you when you're going, I know this character probably better
- 30:46Speaker 1: than you guys writing it. I am this character. I
- 30:49Speaker 1: know he wouldn't say this, so it doesn't it wouldn't
- 30:51Speaker 1: feel natural saying these lines.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Yeah, the writers of Career, well, the creators of the show,
- 30:55Speaker 3: have created the characters, the writers have helped development over time.
- 30:58Speaker 3: But if you will, they gave a big finality.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:00Speaker 3: But if you're living with this character week after week,
- 31:02Speaker 3: episode after episode, yeah, your creative juice has flowed into
- 31:07Speaker 3: that as well. So of course Harry Shearer and the
- 31:10Speaker 3: other cast members again are right to have this say
- 31:12Speaker 3: about the character. Sounds this way, the character acts this way,
- 31:15Speaker 3: the character reacts this.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Way, of course, but that's again with the joke cast. Homer,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you're saying, people watch the show week to week. The
- 31:21Speaker 1: people who are complaining about Joe Cass, Homer, we're just
- 31:23Speaker 1: going online and complaining. They were saying that because they
- 31:26Speaker 1: wanted to be better. Then your audience who once loved
- 31:29Speaker 1: the show are saying, you've taken the show in a
- 31:31Speaker 1: direction that we don't really like. Can we try and
- 31:34Speaker 1: maybe find a middle ground here? And the show went
- 31:36Speaker 1: nah nah nah, noah, fuck you, Yeah, it bothered me.
- 31:41Speaker 1: So the episode kicks off with Homer, well, let's.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Not forget about the couch gag, because the couch gag,
- 31:46Speaker 3: isn't it unusual and unrelate?
- 31:49Speaker 1: Well, a parody of the medieval the Beot tapestry.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Yeah, which is a about a seventy meter tapestry depicting
- 31:56Speaker 3: the Norman conquests where a band of European soldiers only
- 32:00Speaker 3: sort of French and Belgian and all that kind of shit.
- 32:02Speaker 1: That kind of shit. Yeah, it's ancient, which French and Belgi.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I was like, I fought waffles.
- 32:10Speaker 3: They conquered England in ten sixty six.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and then just wasted ninety seconds. But like I said,
- 32:19Speaker 1: it was two minutes when the couch gag ended, and
- 32:22Speaker 1: then there was a minute of Homer, Lenny and Carl
- 32:24Speaker 1: at the power plant saying we could have wait for
- 32:25Speaker 1: Burnstley before we can live. Oh, that goes distracting him.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Then he calls him and does a like it's a
- 32:30Speaker 1: phone booth parody?
- 32:31Speaker 3: Was it almost a sort of yeah? Or when did
- 32:34Speaker 3: Taken come out? Taken feels like two thousand, two thousand
- 32:37Speaker 3: and eight, Yeah, sort of feels that way. Somewhere also
- 32:40Speaker 3: feels like phone booth. Ye, right, how did your brain
- 32:42Speaker 3: work that out?
- 32:42Speaker 1: Because my brain I associate what I was doing a
- 32:45Speaker 1: moment of my life in that time when I saw
- 32:47Speaker 1: that movie, and I was like, I married now kids.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I was like, I saw that movie with a particular girl,
- 32:52Speaker 1: and I know what year I've seen in that particular girl.
- 32:55Speaker 1: That's how I know. Ye that movie there can So
- 32:56Speaker 1: I'm saying two thousand and eight, what are you.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Saying, I'm gonna say two two thousand. I'm gonna say
- 33:01Speaker 3: two thousand and eight as well.
- 33:02Speaker 1: It was two thousand and eight. Yeah, we're both right.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I hadn't you worked that out.
- 33:07Speaker 3: I don't remember how I knew it, but yeah, because yeah,
- 33:10Speaker 3: up to a certain stage, and it's probably like the
- 33:12Speaker 3: early two thousand, it's like, oh, okay, well, no, I
- 33:15Speaker 3: was working here at that stage, or yea, I was
- 33:18Speaker 3: living at this place at this particular stage, or drove
- 33:20Speaker 3: this car to go to that preview or something along
- 33:23Speaker 3: those lines. Two thousand and eight, I don't know, that's
- 33:25Speaker 3: when things start to get fuzzy. Well not even that's
- 33:27Speaker 3: when things start to get fuzzy, but you know, the
- 33:28Speaker 3: two thousands is kind of like.
- 33:31Speaker 1: It's all started to blur into one.
- 33:33Speaker 3: It could have happened in twenty twelve, it could have
- 33:35Speaker 3: happened in twenty nineteen, It could have happened in two
- 33:37Speaker 3: thousand and five.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I can tell you week to week to week in
- 33:39Speaker 1: the nineties about two thousand and five. I'm just like
- 33:42Speaker 1: it all becomes one thing.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Was I going to say something else.
- 33:47Speaker 1: But the guy's calling top taking paradise.
- 33:49Speaker 3: I must admit I did get a laugh though, when
- 33:53Speaker 3: they're saying, oh, he's gonna tell them that story about
- 33:55Speaker 3: hang on.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and then then you see that, Yeah, it's like, Okay,
- 33:58Speaker 1: that's pretty good. That's a visual game.
- 34:00Speaker 3: But after that it just stretches on way too long.
- 34:02Speaker 3: And honestly, stuff with Homer doing the hostage thing.
- 34:06Speaker 1: First of all, it's just I'm going to kill your
- 34:08Speaker 1: dog or something or I'm going to kill your kids.
- 34:10Speaker 1: It's dumb and it's cruel. Yeah, and he says if
- 34:14Speaker 1: you do it, I think he says, and if you
- 34:15Speaker 1: do this your dog, I'll let your dog leave or something.
- 34:17Speaker 1: And he's do the rocket dance on the way out.
- 34:19Speaker 1: And it was all for nothing. It was it's literally
- 34:23Speaker 1: just filler. And as I said, filler in an episode
- 34:26Speaker 1: three minutes now I have gone by where Burns is
- 34:28Speaker 1: left and the guys are leaving in an episode that
- 34:31Speaker 1: they didn't couldn't think of an ending, so they just
- 34:33Speaker 1: didn't have an ending.
- 34:34Speaker 3: So what the hell.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Is going on? So burns is left. He calls Homer
- 34:40Speaker 1: has caught margin on the way home. She says, the
- 34:42Speaker 1: first of the month, which means is the day that
- 34:43Speaker 1: you promised to start your diet. I actually had this
- 34:46Speaker 1: in my notes that super relatable. How many times do
- 34:49Speaker 1: you go on, start my diet but eat all the
- 34:51Speaker 1: shit I want to eat now, and then like three
- 34:53Speaker 1: weeks later you're like, yeah, that was good. Start of the.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Week, start of the month, yay, start of the year.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Various other anniversaries and milestone the last week.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Of the months always worked gets you. You're like, oh,
- 35:06Speaker 1: I'll start it the first of the next month.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Tell you what I'm going to build up a quote
- 35:11Speaker 3: unquote a spank bank of memories, but all food related
- 35:13Speaker 3: in terms of like, oh that's that was the last
- 35:17Speaker 3: KFC I ever had, Oh so tasty. Oh remember I
- 35:20Speaker 3: had that quarter pound? Oh so good.
- 35:22Speaker 1: But by the way, thanks to all the patrons who
- 35:24Speaker 1: let me know about the ten dollars for ten tenders yesterday,
- 35:26Speaker 1: except motherfuckers. Now I kept it to one per customer.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Excuse me, you used to be you just have it unlimited,
- 35:31Speaker 1: and it was like, no one pot customer.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Now I went, what what so you can only go
- 35:37Speaker 3: once and get your ten tenders for ten bucks only
- 35:39Speaker 3: on the app, and you're when you're logged in, you
- 35:41Speaker 3: can only claim it once.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Now, Oh yeah, I was not impressed. Disappointing from the colonel,
- 35:47Speaker 1: the shrunken size and the shrunking content as well.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Nobody likes a loophole. No, no, nobody likes a loophole.
- 35:54Speaker 3: But yeah, I think we're all we can very much
- 35:58Speaker 3: relate to. I'll start my dad Monday. All started at
- 36:00Speaker 3: the start of the month. And yes, you build up
- 36:02Speaker 3: your memories of.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Like I'm gonna have a big Mac and I'm gonna
- 36:05Speaker 1: have some tenders and KFC and I'll whop u from
- 36:07Speaker 1: houmky jacks a bit of everything, and you know what,
- 36:09Speaker 1: they're invariably disappointing. Yeah, OKFC never disappoints me. Besides the
- 36:14Speaker 1: size of the tenders. Now, I was been saying, you're
- 36:16Speaker 1: just we're talking about that disappointed tastes wise, it's never disappointing.
- 36:19Speaker 1: McDonald's always disappointing. Big Max usually generally safe for me.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Big Max chips are always shipped for me. McDonald's cheeseburgers.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Cheeseburgers were a good after drink out in town, have
- 36:30Speaker 1: a couple cheeseburgers on the way home or whatever. For me,
- 36:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna get Macaus. It's only a big Macs and
- 36:34Speaker 1: anything I'll eat Hunger Jacks. I feel like hunka Jacks
- 36:36Speaker 1: is the most consistent for me, both in quality of
- 36:38Speaker 1: food and service. We got to Hunkry Jacks. Even if
- 36:41Speaker 1: there's a line, it's just like in and out KFC KFC.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Last night, I went to get the kids first and
- 36:47Speaker 1: went in the line to KFC. It's to my parents
- 36:49Speaker 1: because they want a KFC as while Nichola was waiting
- 36:51Speaker 1: there right thirty seven minutes in line at KFC thirty
- 36:57Speaker 1: seven minutes?
- 36:58Speaker 3: Do you mean in like the.
- 37:00Speaker 1: In the drive through Q thirty seven fucking minutes?
- 37:03Speaker 3: It's nuts where people like lined up on the highway.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I was no, so I was lining the back of KFC,
- 37:08Speaker 1: nor so the backstreet. So it was the entire drive
- 37:10Speaker 1: through was full, and there was I was one cart
- 37:12Speaker 1: out of the of the complex, so it was like
- 37:14Speaker 1: maybe it seemed like maybe seven cars. Ish, I'm like, oh,
- 37:17Speaker 1: we can get through, kids, And this put some frust.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Were you getting frustrated? Were you sort of projecting onto
- 37:22Speaker 3: the person in the front, say you don't know what
- 37:23Speaker 3: you want to do, You'll look at you're looking at
- 37:24Speaker 3: the men. You go, hmm, maybe i'll have this. Oh
- 37:27Speaker 3: you don't want to be nice? Would be tens?
- 37:28Speaker 1: Oh what kind of sauce?
- 37:30Speaker 3: Though?
- 37:31Speaker 1: I had to know what you want before you go.
- 37:35Speaker 1: That thing that shits me more than anything. Everyone knows
- 37:39Speaker 1: what they want to get when they go to a
- 37:40Speaker 1: fast food place. No one should get there and go,
- 37:43Speaker 1: what do I want today? You know you want the
- 37:45Speaker 1: same shit you always order. Just fucking order it. Goodness sakes.
- 37:50Speaker 1: But I thought, you know what, I'm not gonna get
- 37:53Speaker 1: stressed here because Allie's like it's going to be a
- 37:54Speaker 1: long time. Like now it's all good, buddy, put some
- 37:56Speaker 1: songs on. What do you think we relied on? I
- 37:58Speaker 1: want to I don't know. It's baby shack. They wanted
- 38:01Speaker 1: him in Raps City and it got to the loud
- 38:05Speaker 1: part as the kids call it, and we were in
- 38:06Speaker 1: the drive through going Dude Wayne's World Style. I was like,
- 38:10Speaker 1: I am a good dad, and then Elliott requested Paradise
- 38:13Speaker 1: City by Guns and Roses, and I was like, oh,
- 38:14Speaker 1: fucking raising these kids, right, But they loved Alliot loves
- 38:19Speaker 1: we all rock you, We are the champions. Because he
- 38:22Speaker 1: always remembers, he goes, I remember you when you sang
- 38:24Speaker 1: this in town when the Cat's won the Grand Finals.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I love that He's always already got a memory of
- 38:29Speaker 1: me drunk singing that song, like a good memory of
- 38:31Speaker 1: the Cats winning the Grand Final. Anyway, So thirty seven
- 38:33Speaker 1: minutes put songs on the kids dance, had a good time.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I didn't get stressed out until it got to the
- 38:37Speaker 1: point where we were one car from the final window
- 38:40Speaker 1: and this guy who took forever to order his food
- 38:42Speaker 1: was then sitting there forever. And I saw them give
- 38:45Speaker 1: a bag and he five seconds goes by and I
- 38:48Speaker 1: was like, oh, he's tooking through the bag. And then
- 38:50Speaker 1: he hands the bag back and I was like, you, well,
- 38:53Speaker 1: you'n the.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Sad way you'd be mad at this person. But at
- 38:57Speaker 3: the same time, you know, to quote Peshi in the
- 39:01Speaker 3: Leath the Weapon movies, they can fuck.
- 39:02Speaker 1: You with the drive through. Yeah, you got to make sure.
- 39:04Speaker 1: You have to make sure. Well, this is how because
- 39:06Speaker 1: the only thing the KFS always fucks me without the
- 39:08Speaker 1: drive through is the extra salt on the chips, right,
- 39:09Speaker 1: we always want extra salt. They always go, yeah, it's
- 39:11Speaker 1: extra salt. Last time specifically said is the extra salt
- 39:14Speaker 1: and he goes yeah yeah, and there wasn't right. They
- 39:16Speaker 1: liked you. The kids lie to you. This is how
- 39:18Speaker 1: you get around that mistake. If you're having issues with
- 39:21Speaker 1: KFS giving you extra salt, is you order chips with
- 39:23Speaker 1: no salt, and then you get and then they have
- 39:26Speaker 1: to make them fresh because there's no salt, and then
- 39:28Speaker 1: you get to the window and go fucked up. My
- 39:30Speaker 1: wife says, you want an extra salt, not no salt. Sorry, mate, Okay.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Then they have to put extra salt on it, and
- 39:34Speaker 1: you watch them do it. That's how you guarantee you
- 39:36Speaker 1: extra because they they're fresh chips, so they taste good
- 39:39Speaker 1: and they guarantee that extra salt. That's your lidbot order
- 39:42Speaker 1: them the no salt, cooked fresh and then say, whoops,
- 39:44Speaker 1: my bad, I want an extra salt.
- 39:45Speaker 3: I feel like I'm Luke Skywalker training with Yoda. Here.
- 39:50Speaker 1: That's what I did last night.
- 39:51Speaker 3: You're just gaming the system.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Your ship heads always lie to.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Me beating the kernel at his own game.
- 39:56Speaker 1: But when he handed that bag back, Ali actually od
- 39:58Speaker 1: at one point, just get up with it. Good Lord,
- 40:04Speaker 1: your car those two times party mobile, it was a
- 40:07Speaker 1: party of a billion. Dave, don't you remember what today
- 40:10Speaker 1: is when you asked me that it's never good? It's
- 40:13Speaker 1: the first of.
- 40:14Speaker 4: The length, the day you promised to start your new diet.
- 40:18Speaker 4: I'm just really worried about your weight. Bart says that
- 40:21Speaker 4: we got a call from NASA and your gravity is
- 40:24Speaker 4: pulling satellites out.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Of their orbit, which I joke, but.
- 40:28Speaker 4: It comes from a true place.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Oh, I'm glad they explained that this was a joke,
- 40:34Speaker 1: because I'm like, that's what you think is funny. In
- 40:36Speaker 1: said nineteen the Simpsons, we have lost the plot, have
- 40:40Speaker 1: lost the plot. It's it comes from a true place.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I know that Julie Kevner is a professional and a
- 40:47Speaker 3: smart person and got the joke, but it almost seemed
- 40:49Speaker 3: like she didn't she that was that was the joke. Yeah,
- 40:53Speaker 3: I know, I know, I know, but yeah, just the
- 40:55Speaker 3: whole delivery of all of it, It's like I can't
- 40:58Speaker 3: tell if Marge knows this is a or not.
- 41:01Speaker 1: She explains to the end, just weird was her line?
- 41:04Speaker 1: Delivery was like off, Bahoma decides to eat all the
- 41:07Speaker 1: crappy can before the diet starts, we even get to
- 41:11Speaker 1: the diet.
- 41:13Speaker 3: No, that's just thrown to the way, that's thrown into
- 41:17Speaker 3: the back seat like a junk food wrapper.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Yeah. So the various places are General Chanin's, Taco Italiano,
- 41:22Speaker 1: Dead Lobster. Now it said on Wikipedia there was something
- 41:25Speaker 1: about Panda. Did you see the Panca That was not
- 41:28Speaker 1: on Disney Plus that I saw anywhere? No, sause we
- 41:31Speaker 1: have restrooms. I thought we have restaurants.
- 41:33Speaker 3: Yeah, but when they they talking about like a Panda
- 41:35Speaker 3: Express knockoff or something.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Uh, Trader Joe's as Trader Earth's. Was that there?
- 41:42Speaker 3: You have that later? Yes, that's not in that's later.
- 41:45Speaker 3: I think that's where the Democrats having their their meeting.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yes, okay, what about KFC? Was KFC on neck because
- 41:51Speaker 1: it says here it was parody as Kentucky Fried Panda.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I did not see this at all. I missed that.
- 41:56Speaker 1: So maybe the colonel jumped in and said, you want
- 42:00Speaker 1: to be changing that. Yeah, Kentucky Fi Panda. I did
- 42:02Speaker 1: not see anywhere on Disney Plus. My words, doing your frazier.
- 42:11Speaker 3: To correct.
- 42:15Speaker 1: There's like a bane inspector praying for a free or
- 42:19Speaker 1: return referred to me it was Kentucky Red Pounder. So
- 42:22Speaker 1: basically the montages from just eating various foods. He drives
- 42:25Speaker 1: up to the sideshow mail bin trash.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Yeah, that tracks sideo mail is trash.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Yes, and he throws all the stuff in. He clars
- 42:33Speaker 1: out his car, including a car battery because why not,
- 42:36Speaker 1: and acid drips down onto the gas mane. He's having
- 42:40Speaker 1: his victory cigar, which is a jerk ass homo cigar.
- 42:44Speaker 1: It says, basically, if you haven't watched the episode, it says,
- 42:46Speaker 1: joke cass Homer on the box. That's his like bastard,
- 42:49Speaker 1: a little bastard tampering kit. It's Homer's joke ass homo cigars.
- 42:52Speaker 3: It honestly felt like that.
- 42:54Speaker 1: It felt like a massive screw you to the audience.
- 42:56Speaker 1: It really did. I'm not sure that he kind of
- 42:59Speaker 1: thought this is the it was going to be taking. Well,
- 43:02Speaker 1: you can't make this gag and think, oh, they're gonna
- 43:04Speaker 1: think it's funn because we're acknowledging their their issues that
- 43:06Speaker 1: we have that they have at the show. It's hard
- 43:08Speaker 1: to be a good sport about that. Don't acknowledge it,
- 43:12Speaker 1: just be better, just fix it. So he throws the
- 43:16Speaker 1: match that hit cigar into the bin, of course, and
- 43:18Speaker 1: it blows up all the shops on Fast Food Boulevard.
- 43:21Speaker 1: We get a hahnsmum and death here get squashed because
- 43:23Speaker 1: everyone else is getting pizza bases thrown in their face.
- 43:25Speaker 1: He gets the sign and lard Lad's head explodes. It's
- 43:28Speaker 1: now a town meeting all the various mascots from Fast
- 43:31Speaker 1: Food Boulevard, and they're including the rib whitch. Indeed, what
- 43:34Speaker 1: are they referred to? Was Cheesy mcmahir or something. What's
- 43:36Speaker 1: madmic cheese of course, but they referred him as cheesey
- 43:39Speaker 1: mcmah or something like that. Yeah, come up with a
- 43:41Speaker 1: family name. It sounds like facing mcface face, doesn't It
- 43:44Speaker 1: Just like it's the most basic thing. But Homer demands
- 43:48Speaker 1: to we must rebuild Fast Food Boulevard and Hibbit suggests
- 43:51Speaker 1: they only need to bond issue. So Lisa says, but
- 43:53Speaker 1: that would be our problem then, and bar says, no,
- 43:55Speaker 1: woulds pass on to the next generation. Make he sees
- 43:57Speaker 1: next to her, there's nobody's going to be her generation issue.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Then they bring the Springfields presidential presidential primary forward to
- 44:05Speaker 1: this Tuesday. I think it says or something. Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 3: I think it was initially going to be months in
- 44:08Speaker 3: the future and now it's.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Next week, which means they're now first in the nation.
- 44:12Speaker 1: It would have been nice for them to explain just
- 44:14Speaker 1: what that means. Yeah, because kids are got home going
- 44:18Speaker 1: what are you talking about? Adults a home going? What
- 44:19Speaker 1: are you talking about? I should know this, I know,
- 44:23Speaker 1: but I don't, So you can explain it to me, please.
- 44:25Speaker 3: I feel dumb the best of times, and yeah, now
- 44:27Speaker 3: this is the worst of times.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Yes, and it's going to be earlier New Hampshire because
- 44:31Speaker 1: I guess they're always first. Yeah, and they throwing the
- 44:35Speaker 1: memitchies say, and they're going to be cheesed dad joke.
- 44:38Speaker 3: Okay, please please come up with jokes.
- 44:40Speaker 1: We get a new story.
- 44:41Speaker 3: I would appreciate it.
- 44:41Speaker 1: We get a new story here from New Hampshire because
- 44:44Speaker 1: they're usually the first ones, and they hear the Springfield's
- 44:47Speaker 1: actually going to be first now, so they all leave
- 44:49Speaker 1: for that. And we get the reference you're talking about
- 44:50Speaker 1: earlier of the old couple who were in a diner.
- 44:52Speaker 3: But that's a cameo by actual US newsman Dan Rather.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Yeah. I think in the show, in this episode, you
- 44:57Speaker 1: could tell what it was actual people when it was
- 44:59Speaker 1: just Simpson's cast parroting something true.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but rather apparently as a name you can
- 45:04Speaker 3: trust yes, or you used to be able to anywy.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Apparently there was some sort of scandal involving of fake news,
- 45:10Speaker 3: but I don't know, something along those lines. Anyway, Moving along,
- 45:13Speaker 3: Moving along.
- 45:14Speaker 1: We get the ad for vote now or I voted
- 45:17Speaker 1: or whatever, and camp Brockman's doing a report with Springfield's
- 45:20Speaker 1: primary now first in the nation. Are humbles that he
- 45:23Speaker 1: has overrun with candidates, news hounds, spin doctors, hacks, flax, Russerts, blitzers,
- 45:27Speaker 1: and even the occasional voter. Sir, do you have a preference? Yeah?
- 45:30Speaker 1: I like girls, fruit loop Nah. Are you a registered voter?
- 45:34Speaker 1: I'm a registered something. Lisa, she's very excited that Springfield
- 45:38Speaker 1: is now the center of the political universe.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Well, here you've got an opportunity for Lisa to use
- 45:43Speaker 3: her pedantic powers for good. You know, she's the one
- 45:46Speaker 3: who pops in and explains everything and hopefully does it
- 45:49Speaker 3: in a way that's.
- 45:50Speaker 1: A pop up video.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Yeah, she explains it to the dumbest people in the
- 45:53Speaker 3: various rooms that she's in.
- 45:55Speaker 1: You could have thought of a creative way to work that.
- 45:57Speaker 3: In absolutely or yeah, and when Ralph come into the picture,
- 46:00Speaker 3: Ralph is clearly, you know, not that bright. Lisa has
- 46:04Speaker 3: to explain every step of the way and therefore explaining
- 46:06Speaker 3: to us, and we'll be going, oh well, hey, quote
- 46:09Speaker 3: another show on the fourth fing a discount network. I
- 46:11Speaker 3: learned something today. Yeah, listen to going down to South Park? Yes,
- 46:14Speaker 3: or watch it or even watch it.
- 46:16Speaker 1: By the way, guys, So the way this is going
- 46:18Speaker 1: now is we're filming all the shows, so clips are
- 46:20Speaker 1: going to be going up on social media. In the
- 46:21Speaker 1: YouTube channel, you can watch clips up there. But if
- 46:23Speaker 1: you want to watch the full show now of guy
- 46:25Speaker 1: and myself doing fourthing a Discount, going down the South
- 46:27Speaker 1: Park and now the shows we do here a fourthing
- 46:29Speaker 1: a discount, you're gotta be supported of ours on page
- 46:31Speaker 1: on to watch the full episode. But you're gonna give
- 46:32Speaker 1: getting plenty of clips. So if you just want to
- 46:34Speaker 1: watch some clips, that's fine. If you've watched the full show,
- 46:36Speaker 1: if you supportus on patreoon, you can access to the
- 46:38Speaker 1: full unineedded episode. We're weird that it's the year twenty
- 46:41Speaker 1: to twenty four and attention chances attention spans are short. Yeah,
- 46:44Speaker 1: watch a clip. Yeah, watch a clip. Share it with
- 46:45Speaker 1: your friends. I think the way definitely share explaining the
- 46:49Speaker 1: primary scenario right when they mentioned the fact that they
- 46:52Speaker 1: needed the bond issue here, but says that someone could
- 46:54Speaker 1: have gone. But how do we do that? And Lisa explains, well,
- 46:57Speaker 1: we could bring it forward, I guess, but that would
- 46:59Speaker 1: be and then make and he goes done this Tuesday.
- 47:01Speaker 1: She's like, I don't think we know, it's I haven't
- 47:03Speaker 1: thought about it. Yeah, they all work out, manarel Yeah,
- 47:07Speaker 1: that's easy. We just fixed in fucking ten seconds.
- 47:09Speaker 3: We know, yeah, we know that the people of Springfield
- 47:11Speaker 3: are always going to take the path less ted or
- 47:13Speaker 3: not none. The path is the path of least resistance.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Especially when Lisa goes. But we couldn't do that because.
- 47:18Speaker 3: Yeah, no one's thinking about consequences or anything like that.
- 47:21Speaker 1: So how do we make that happen? Well, this way,
- 47:24Speaker 1: but I wouldn't. It's done. Now, there's a way of
- 47:27Speaker 1: doing it. I get. But ooh perfect, Yes, fantastic, another trap.
- 47:33Speaker 1: See how easy it is to fix this ship?
- 47:34Speaker 3: Oh my god, I can't speak for Dano. I'm a
- 47:38Speaker 3: fucking dumb.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Ass, you know. We were all dumb asses, and yet
- 47:44Speaker 1: we were able to make this episode, I don't know,
- 47:46Speaker 1: a little more palatable. Yes, it went It went down
- 47:49Speaker 1: smooth like a box had ten tenders. She mentions here
- 47:51Speaker 1: the think tank and homes all think take and we
- 47:54Speaker 1: get the him the flashback or not the flash of
- 47:56Speaker 1: the thought bubble is now, let's consider the World Bank
- 47:58Speaker 1: leading lending policies to make me Now, this was a really.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Good bait and switch because I was honestly expecting, like
- 48:04Speaker 3: Homer to come bursting through the.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Wall in a tank, you know, any tank, Yeah, yeah, like.
- 48:09Speaker 3: With with an army helmet on and yeah, or you know,
- 48:13Speaker 3: a big cigar like yeah, like he's general pattern or something.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Take that, you know, which we probably would have been funny.
- 48:22Speaker 1: It would have been funny.
- 48:23Speaker 3: But at the same time, this was both funny and smart,
- 48:27Speaker 3: and I really appreciated that that what I'm allowed to
- 48:29Speaker 3: get one right.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Everyone's in a while, yeah, Mo's and they're all annoyed
- 48:33Speaker 1: that the news is are lapping on it is at
- 48:36Speaker 1: this point yet not annoyed, you are. They're annoyed once
- 48:38Speaker 1: they all arrive, So the news is are lapping up
- 48:40Speaker 1: the sauce that's why he's a big fan, because you
- 48:42Speaker 1: know they're all drinking there, or the or the news
- 48:44Speaker 1: reporters and whatnot. And they one of them asked you
- 48:46Speaker 1: have internet access? And it was like, I wasn't really
- 48:49Speaker 1: paying attention to I'm just gonna plug from his phone
- 48:51Speaker 1: and plugging.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Into it that way.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm guessing this before Wi Fi people. But
- 48:55Speaker 1: I'm guessing it.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Didn't even work because I mean, I think they would have.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Put that, That's what I thought was happed coming.
- 49:01Speaker 3: Yeah, but they didn't. I think Moe just pulled a
- 49:03Speaker 3: swifty and they goes like wown nay connected the world
- 49:05Speaker 3: Wide Web.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Yeah, So he poked the phone and John Stewart here now,
- 49:09Speaker 1: so he says, I'm John Stewart. Do I need to
- 49:10Speaker 1: say my name? People know me? Then Krusty walks in
- 49:13Speaker 1: right and says, hey, it's John Stewart. I was like,
- 49:16Speaker 1: we know that. Why would Crusty walk up and say hey,
- 49:18Speaker 1: I wouldn't work on and go hey it's guy Davis.
- 49:21Speaker 1: You could have just had him go because he says
- 49:23Speaker 1: here everyone's favorite political funny man.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Right.
- 49:26Speaker 1: He could have said, I'm John Stewart. You know, do
- 49:28Speaker 1: you have to say my name, and Christ walks in.
- 49:29Speaker 1: He goes, well, it isn't everyone's favorite political funny man.
- 49:32Speaker 1: You didn't have to go, hey, it's Judge Stewart, everyone's
- 49:35Speaker 1: favorite political funny man. Yeah, or why we're in the
- 49:38Speaker 1: era of hey, hey, it's that celebrity in case you
- 49:40Speaker 1: won't aware, Well, we're aware because he just said his name.
- 49:43Speaker 1: We're well aware of John suit or take the person
- 49:45Speaker 1: say hey it's Stephen Colbert or something like that. Make
- 49:48Speaker 1: a mistake. Yeah, but no, that joke would work because
- 49:51Speaker 1: you go, well, it isn't america Everyone's favorite political funny man.
- 49:55Speaker 1: He goes me, John Stuart Stewart. I thought you were
- 49:57Speaker 1: Stephen Colbert. And that's the gag. That's it. Fuck finished
- 49:59Speaker 1: the gag. But tell me more. Are you trying to
- 50:03Speaker 1: steal my lines? No? No, no, no, trust you. That's
- 50:06Speaker 1: very bad of you. And it's like, walks off and
- 50:08Speaker 1: I'm thinking what that was. You hadn't judged Stewart and
- 50:11Speaker 1: that's all you did with him.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Yeah, although I'm pretty sure we're going to assume that
- 50:14Speaker 3: Will Smith somewhere in his You wonder where I'm going
- 50:17Speaker 3: with this, aren't you? Uh sitting somewhere in his compound
- 50:20Speaker 3: was watching this episode and a little seed was planted.
- 50:23Speaker 3: And years later at the Oscars, rather than saying John Stewart,
- 50:28Speaker 3: keep your zingers out of my mouth, Keep my zingers
- 50:30Speaker 3: out of your mouth, he instead said something else to
- 50:33Speaker 3: Chris Rock he did, which was, keep my wife's name
- 50:36Speaker 3: out your fucking mouth.
- 50:38Speaker 1: It was fucking mouth. Always prub your head together. When
- 50:44Speaker 1: we look back on that moment, is that going to
- 50:46Speaker 1: be a It felt like it was a defining moment
- 50:48Speaker 1: of Will Smith's career. I feel like the world's moved on.
- 50:51Speaker 1: I feel like like our bad boys forward success play on.
- 50:54Speaker 3: The world moves on so quickly.
- 50:56Speaker 1: I mean, I'll put up a couple of memes this week,
- 50:58Speaker 1: the hawked to hock to our girl, spit on that
- 51:01Speaker 1: thing chick. She was huge for like a couple of weeks, right,
- 51:04Speaker 1: She's been doing these appearances, and she appeared a country
- 51:07Speaker 1: music festival a couple of days ago to Utter Silence
- 51:09Speaker 1: to Tumbleweeds and everyone was like, oh shit, oh yeah,
- 51:12Speaker 1: it's over yeah, And you can see the moment in
- 51:14Speaker 1: her eyes where she's like, oh no, they lied to me.
- 51:19Speaker 3: I think she struck me as quite aware that she
- 51:22Speaker 3: knew that she was going to be. She seems quite charming.
- 51:24Speaker 1: She seemed really nice.
- 51:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and also look not to get to adult content
- 51:29Speaker 3: on what is generally a family friendly show, but.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Sounds like a great date the whole twelve. It's like, damn,
- 51:35Speaker 1: that's hot. It's just I don't know. She just seemed
- 51:39Speaker 1: like a cool chick.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Well. I saw a video of her where she was
- 51:44Speaker 3: taking advantage of her fifteen second money for dogs or
- 51:46Speaker 3: whatever it was she went to pet barn.
- 51:49Speaker 1: It was like, we've got all this food for stray dog.
- 51:51Speaker 1: That's what you should be, not making appearance as at
- 51:53Speaker 1: fucking music vessels do this shit.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Soidia, I like to think she can combine the two,
- 51:57Speaker 3: you know.
- 51:58Speaker 1: But not not one counting him about there, but appearing.
- 52:00Speaker 3: At the comedy festival or the or the country music
- 52:02Speaker 3: festival or whatever. I remember, still in the public eye.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Keep the thing going a little longer, a few more
- 52:07Speaker 3: straight dogs. I'm team hok twa.
- 52:09Speaker 1: So now we get to Crusty. Crusty's basically just the
- 52:13Speaker 1: whole bit of John Stewart was just unnecessary and unfunny.
- 52:16Speaker 1: I'm like, where are you going with this? Where are
- 52:18Speaker 1: you going, oh, you're going nowhere.
- 52:21Speaker 3: You're showing that Krusty is a hack, which is something
- 52:23Speaker 3: that we didn't know.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Who the thunk it. So that stide of the panel
- 52:29Speaker 1: introducing the panel for the debate, and we get Andrea
- 52:32Speaker 1: Andrea crowded from seeing then DeMont evansromslep dot com and
- 52:35Speaker 1: your paler on theahalf from the Washington Journalist indeed, and
- 52:40Speaker 1: Nelson with the whole your medium is dying, and then
- 52:43Speaker 1: Skinner says Nelson, what it is being right and being nice.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I'm thinking joke on a joke, on a joke, but
- 52:49Speaker 1: or not even a joke. Skinner wouldn't then have this
- 52:52Speaker 1: interaction with him with the whole there's being right and
- 52:55Speaker 1: those big nice No, that's enough, another one of those
- 52:59Speaker 1: gags that was just written. They wanted to take the
- 53:01Speaker 1: piss out of print media.
- 53:02Speaker 3: I guess, yeah, So I just have Nelson saying your
- 53:05Speaker 3: medium's arm and then have like a single tear come
- 53:06Speaker 3: from the Washington This guy all it needed, all you want,
- 53:09Speaker 3: because we Yeah, I think we were aware, aware in
- 53:12Speaker 3: two thousand and eight certainly that the times they were
- 53:14Speaker 3: a changing. Now.
- 53:16Speaker 1: The residents in for the focus group for the Republican candidate,
- 53:20Speaker 1: which is should we make governor former governor Vincent Aleppo
- 53:24Speaker 1: the new candidate. And they mentioned here that he has
- 53:27Speaker 1: a relationship with Ms Daffi.
- 53:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Now here's the thing. You've got some actual politicians
- 53:32Speaker 3: in there. I mean from what I understand, I don't
- 53:34Speaker 3: know if they got billed, and maybe some.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Of the politicians some are just parodies of politicians.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Well, yeah, Fred Thompson a real politician. Dennis Kutchinich, Yeah,
- 53:42Speaker 3: he's real. I don't know whether he actually I don't
- 53:44Speaker 3: think he would have supplied his voice. You know, he
- 53:46Speaker 3: didn't know. I'm making jokes about it.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Look at that, here's one point seven meters. That's not
- 53:51Speaker 1: that short. No, one hundred and seventy centem is. I
- 53:53Speaker 1: mean it's it's short, but as notch.
- 53:55Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, he's not a hobbit.
- 53:59Speaker 1: No, was bizarre, Like what are we doing? I just
- 54:04Speaker 1: didn't know what are you doing? Yeah, I was in
- 54:08Speaker 1: the writer's room. They picture the jokes. What are you doing?
- 54:11Speaker 1: It's like when I made George Lucas really short, and
- 54:13Speaker 1: you're like, what's the joke here? Why? Why is he
- 54:16Speaker 1: is being short? Funny to use that is that the
- 54:18Speaker 1: joke that he's short.
- 54:19Speaker 3: That's okay cool. Someone on Twitter the other day made
- 54:22Speaker 3: a very good point. They saying, what the perfect job
- 54:25Speaker 3: for me would be to be at the celebrity side,
- 54:28Speaker 3: and when they're about to put something out, all they
- 54:30Speaker 3: float an idea I'm the person who goes. People are
- 54:33Speaker 3: going to take that the wrong way. And this was
- 54:36Speaker 3: this is about the time that Katy Perry's and new
- 54:37Speaker 3: saw the video came out.
- 54:39Speaker 1: I listened to the song. Apparently it hasn't done well.
- 54:42Speaker 3: I saw bits of the video and thought I had noticed.
- 54:45Speaker 1: In the last months. I was like, Katy Perry seems
- 54:48Speaker 1: to be just popping up here and there. She hadn't
- 54:50Speaker 1: been here and there for a while. What's going on here?
- 54:52Speaker 3: Oh? Single on the verge of a comeback and stopt
- 54:56Speaker 3: launching a comeback, which then.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Yeah, apparently she responded to it, and it's never respond
- 55:01Speaker 1: to the bad feedback.
- 55:02Speaker 3: Don't know. I'll never say you don't get yeah, as
- 55:06Speaker 3: you're doing this is guys, Yeah, we know what satire
- 55:10Speaker 3: is and this ain't it that? Ain't it cheap to
- 55:13Speaker 3: use some very outdated slang that's probably about as relevant
- 55:17Speaker 3: as Katie Perry sorry, Katie. I mean, you've got a
- 55:20Speaker 3: couple of certified bangers and also some good songs.
- 55:24Speaker 1: You're going and guy will be replaced on next week's podcast.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Can we do it like a visual canceled I was
- 55:36Speaker 1: there and guys gone, all right, guys, So the rest of
- 55:40Speaker 1: the show is just going to be me here, sitting here.
- 55:42Speaker 1: But so basically, they got the they had the the
- 55:45Speaker 1: focus group, and I think they're just trying to say
- 55:47Speaker 1: here that Republican voters are idiots because they didn't know
- 55:51Speaker 1: what they wanted.
- 55:53Speaker 3: Voters in general, voters generally easily distracted by milkshakes, by milkshakes,
- 55:59Speaker 3: by special effects unclear or insincere messaging anything.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Yep. Then the side of the debate, Lisa is not
- 56:08Speaker 1: impressed for what the It's not the debate, sorry, it's
- 56:10Speaker 1: the Democratic Party trying to find a candidate, and Lisea
- 56:13Speaker 1: is not impressed with any of them. Then they're all
- 56:15Speaker 1: putting the various signs up around Springfield, and Clinton puts
- 56:18Speaker 1: up the Hillary sign and they never gonna let that go. Ah. Yeah,
- 56:21Speaker 1: that's yeah, it's just interesting. That's what was ten years
- 56:25Speaker 1: ten years later ish that they were trying to make
- 56:27Speaker 1: her the president and they thought she was going to
- 56:30Speaker 1: be the president.
- 56:30Speaker 3: And that didn't play.
- 56:32Speaker 1: That doc go on Netflix is well worth a watch.
- 56:34Speaker 1: I think I've told you if you watched one where
- 56:35Speaker 1: it's all about how they basically the documentary was about
- 56:38Speaker 1: how Hillary was about to become president, and as they're
- 56:41Speaker 1: filming it, they realized, oh shit, this documentary is actually
- 56:44Speaker 1: about how Trump's going to be a president. Oh boy.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Like on the night, it was like they didn't realize
- 56:51Speaker 1: they still thought that she was going to win. And
- 56:54Speaker 1: you didn't see the people everybody did. Do you see
- 56:56Speaker 1: people watching the poles going oh fuck, it's happening going
- 57:00Speaker 1: back now.
- 57:02Speaker 3: I don't think even Trump thought he was gonna win.
- 57:04Speaker 1: I think he probably he yeah, maybe he didn't think
- 57:07Speaker 1: he part of him to his there's a chance.
- 57:11Speaker 3: To his credit. I've never thought i'd say to his
- 57:13Speaker 3: credit about Donald Trump, but once it was apparent that
- 57:16Speaker 3: he was actually going to be in the White House.
- 57:18Speaker 3: Because honestly, I may be completely wrong here, but I
- 57:20Speaker 3: viewed his initial campaign back for the twenty six as
- 57:24Speaker 3: a p s done as a marketing exercise, just to
- 57:26Speaker 3: keep building his brand.
- 57:27Speaker 1: The Apprentice new season coming in next June, pretty much.
- 57:31Speaker 3: But yeah, once he realizes, oh, I can take advantage
- 57:33Speaker 3: of this, and now he's got a real taste for
- 57:35Speaker 3: it and he just wants it more and more.
- 57:37Speaker 1: Yeah. So the Simpsons are now undecided to sign at
- 57:42Speaker 1: their house, so they all just clam it to their house.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Everyone arrives, they're panted try and win the votes. They
- 57:47Speaker 1: kicked them out, including friend Thompson, your man from die
- 57:49Speaker 1: Hard Too.
- 57:50Speaker 3: And he was an hunt for of October and many things.
- 57:52Speaker 3: It was on Laura and Order for a while, I believe.
- 57:54Speaker 1: So the guy's now all ranting at most, so I
- 57:58Speaker 1: won't have them ragging on Diehard Too, which is not
- 58:00Speaker 1: die Hard, but few movies are. But Diehard two is
- 58:02Speaker 1: not bad. Yeah, it's kind of like for me, I say,
- 58:04Speaker 1: die Hard Too. It's kind of a Jaws Too, where
- 58:06Speaker 1: it's not the first one, nothing will ever be the
- 58:08Speaker 1: first one, but it's not terrible, correct, But Jaws two
- 58:11Speaker 1: is an acceptable Jaws movie in my opinion.
- 58:13Speaker 3: Damn there, my friend. Yes, may I take this opportunity
- 58:16Speaker 3: to promote a project on the side, something that you're
- 58:20Speaker 3: not involved in, but that I have done. All right,
- 58:24Speaker 3: you've heard the name Charlie Lawson mentioned on this podcast
- 58:27Speaker 3: every once in a while, let's get on the podcast.
- 58:28Speaker 3: He's been on the podcast. We talked about The Last
- 58:30Speaker 3: Temptation at Home. He and I recently did a four
- 58:34Speaker 3: part podcast series called Silver's Streak, where we talked about
- 58:38Speaker 3: run of films by producer Joel Silver. Die hard To
- 58:40Speaker 3: is one of them.
- 58:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 58:41Speaker 3: Speaking to myself, I think it's pretty good listening. You
- 58:43Speaker 3: might want to go check it out. Do some googling.
- 58:45Speaker 3: You'll be able to.
- 58:46Speaker 1: Find I'll put the link in the description of this.
- 58:48Speaker 3: That's very generous of you. I appreciate it.
- 58:49Speaker 1: I wish Charlie would do the same for us. Doesn't
- 58:52Speaker 1: he do that? I don't know, but I've just assumed
- 58:55Speaker 1: his producer didn't know.
- 58:56Speaker 3: You don't listen to the podcast that I do.
- 58:58Speaker 1: They have a tag us on social media or anything, so
- 59:00Speaker 1: assumed that we won't getting mentioned.
- 59:02Speaker 3: Well, no, Well, at the end of our episode, I'm like,
- 59:05Speaker 3: check out four Finger discoun where we talk about the Simpsons, Signfeld,
- 59:07Speaker 3: South Park, except for etcetera. Mentioned your name a.
- 59:09Speaker 1: Lot, Charlie great Man, Now, what is the one you're
- 59:14Speaker 1: recording today to reveal it?
- 59:16Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 59:16Speaker 1: We are?
- 59:17Speaker 3: Why not just do it because because I don't know,
- 59:21Speaker 3: I haven't done a rehach yet. No, we're talking to
- 59:24Speaker 3: a gentleman who is responsible. Is got a company that
- 59:27Speaker 3: puts together film trailers. So we're going to be talking
- 59:30Speaker 3: about the evolution of film trailers over the years. Good examples,
- 59:33Speaker 3: there are bad examples thereof are they using too many
- 59:36Speaker 3: slow down versions or children choir versions of classic rock tunes?
- 59:40Speaker 3: Are uh, you know on the Thing in the Way
- 59:47Speaker 3: that was actually pretty good and well that also that
- 59:51Speaker 3: was the original Vana version. Yeah, but we're going to
- 59:55Speaker 3: be talking about that.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Yes, I feel like every trailer tries to be in exception. Now, yeah,
- 59:59Speaker 1: you're probably right, but Inception did a really good trailer.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: They did a good trailer. But then the problem is
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: that it's like not every movie's Inception. They fit the
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: movie like Garfield, the movie shouldn't be slowed down with
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: the slow kids song.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: And don't it should Yeah, and it shouldn't have you know,
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: like this slow doom care version of You of the Cat.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: I feel like every trailer, now, if they could would
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: just have what's that Kanye song has to always done
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: something wrong or whatever? You know that as a piano song.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: That I could sing more of it because I found
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: that really entertaining.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: I don't know the words are. It's like you're putting
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: up with my ship for way too long.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: You know that song?
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I don't know that song starts with the ding, it's
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: just a piano.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: I don't know it.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna play to you after the show.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: That'd be great.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: You definitely know the song.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: I know it, but I don't know if you know.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: It would be perfect for all these modern trailers. Speaking
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: on trailers, I saw the moother trailer for what's the
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: one with your Man?
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: The Trap?
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: The Trap? Yeah, I'm pumped that movie you're in. Yeah
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: looks good? Does it does?
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I wish they didn't spoil that one thing, but I'm
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: still pumped for it.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I'm guessing then that's not the twist. Yeah, they may
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: not even be a twist. It might just be suspense
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: all the way through. But yes, looking forward, I'm glad
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: I never saw my Josh hartnet Stock.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: He's my man like that.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: You've gone on about him forever, You've never given up. Ok,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: a big crush. So the guys are all rounding out
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: MOS sick of all the news reporters being there and
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: who wants to abolish democracy. So Homer suggests that they
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: have a ridiculous candidate, and they suggest that the guy
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Dennis Kutish Kucinich. So Kucinich, I've got here one point
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: set me. Don't know why they made him so short.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Wigham that suggests himself. No, but you're close, and to
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: news report saying it. Ralph Wigham is now the candidate,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: with fifty three percent of likely voters agreeing that he
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: should be the candidate. And look, look what I did
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: made the TV thing happen.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: Let's scale this right down. I think there's like a
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: halfway decent idea in here. I think the people of
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: Springfield realize they're being bombarded and overwhelmed and also maybe
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: being regarded as SAPs by the mainstream media and decided
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: to play them at their own game. It's like, yeah,
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: they're constantly being you know, they're in their privacy is
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: being invaded, They're being painted as rubes or something like that.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Why does it Why does it matter? Why does Lisa
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: care so much? Because it's not like he's going to
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: be president or anything, so why does it matter? What?
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: I think she just takes Umbridge it like, yeah, she's
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: got a very idealized version of American.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: Politics and democracy in general. Because and she's upset because
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: the spring Springfield as a city can't nominate the state's candidate.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: They're just one town.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: That's yeah, they sort of painted themselves into a corner
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: by being Springfield.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Where yeah, that's true. Gelong can't decide who the Victorian
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: representative is.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: It's although it should be Richard Marles because also like
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: he's the Josh Harten and of politics. As far as
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: I can say, that guy's dreaming. But I thought there
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: was a halfway decent idea of the people of Springfield,
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: like flipping, throw it down, flip and reverse it, play them,
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: play the media and the politicians at their own games.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: Like they'd explain that for you.
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Yeah, well yeah they didn't, But I thought, I thought
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: that's not a bad way to go about it. So
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: you're going to treat this like clowns, or you're going
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: to treat politics like a circus or a game. We're
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: going to do exactly the same. We're going to we're
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: gonna bit about their own game. Yeah, yeah, we're going
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: to make an eight year old dumber.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: They think they think. But then we're not answer them.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: They think we're stupid. We'll be about their own.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: Game, only only for it to become oh god, it
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: actually is a circus and they will vote for this kid.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: And it would have been better this when they know
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: how they love their lists. This could be one of
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: those moments where you go, we need someone who's therest
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: ridiculous candidate ever and then no more ridiculous, see captain,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: even more ridiculous, clear us keep going, Chief Wigham nearly
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: there close and that that could have been like whatever,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Now it's time for the head butt with Nash Karta
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: from Washington for the States. Car was from Washington, I believe,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: so yeah, and so basically he introduces, But first of all,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: he says, twodays ago this bed Weather made a splash
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: as Springfield Primary, and I thought it was quite funny.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Then he's so Andrea Andrew Attica. Val Johnson is a take.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: On an Arian Huffington. I believe he's a bit of
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: a political pundit, a media baron.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: And she seems to like Ralph. And then we get
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: a parody of another guy who wears the glasses, Edward R. Murrow.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Well, they mentioned Murrow at some state. Well, does that
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: mean to be a remark because Morow is long dead
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: by this stage. I think Dan rather when he's in
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: then I'm looking at.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: The wrong part, looking at the wrong part. Yeah, maybe
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: that was on I don't know. Here you go, George Will,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: George Will.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: Okay, that name's familiar. I don't know if he's still
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: with us, but yeah, the whole massive political commentators out there.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: But he says, we need to find out whether he's
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: a Democrat or Republican, whether we're in a tuxa or
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: a tuxedo a tux ye listener thinks it's an absolute disaster.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: And then Marge is not really concerned at all. She
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: looks at the newspaper and says, I'm my god, Springfield
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: Dodge has too much inventory, Like she's Marge's an idiot.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: I guess I get the feeling. Marge is trying to
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: check out of the of the whole political thing.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: So it's not Marge doesn'tunderstand. She's just doesn't want She's
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: just overwhelmed.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: By it and just wants some like me. Yeah, I've
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: been God, there's too much political content. I just want
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: to watch Nadi Fiance the UK version.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Preference if you make.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Because there's a saying I forgot the exact title or
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: position that you've heard of Steve Bannon. You know that guy. Yeah,
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: he talked about that notion of flooding the zone with shit,
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: which is a political strategy that's I think a toilet. Yeah, well,
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: I think it's been around a lot, but Putin certainly
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: used it, and now they're using American politics where you
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: just flood the media with so much information, a lot
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: of it conflicting, and some of it coming from like
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: one source. It's like one source will throw contradictory information
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: just to get people confused. And then when you've got
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: someone coming through like trumple say I'll do this. Oh wow,
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: he's talent like it is, and he's speaking to me
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: because I'm confused. But this guy's providing a solution. He's
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: not trying to baffle me with facts and figures and
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: hyper loot and stuff. He's just gonna down. I'll take
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: that guy.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: He always does this.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Well, but you're right exactly, Well, that's my political When
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: I run for office, it'll be like I'm guy Davis. Wow,
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: seems like a political strong man. Vote one guy.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: But Ma says he's just going to have faith in
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: the wisdom of the average voter. They all walk in
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: saying I did the wig. I did the wig. Lisa
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: says he can't be president because a he's too stupid.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: I thought that was not very nice, but that's true.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: And being president you have to be at least thirty five. Bhamed,
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: I say, here, being president's easy. You just gotta point
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: the army and shoot. But he says, she's not about
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: She says you have to be thirty five. And they
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: goussie the Patriot Act. And if this felt like I did,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I didn't understand it. I'm not gonna lie, but it
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: felt like their way of just trying to write themselves
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: out of a hole.
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and also sort of not being on the right
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: side of history. But I think for a while around
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: this period it was like, oh, if we mentioned the
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: patriotarcht that's kind of shows Oh we're against it. Oh
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: they've introduced the Patriarch, Shame on them. That's what it
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: felt like. It felt like a bunch of a collection
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: of buzzwords.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: And then this next bit of the Republican meeting, we
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: got cat Chocular Birch, Barlow so it's agreed we cancel
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: the rest of the primarias and offer the GOP nomination
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: to this Niehei want wit.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: Myra is already gushing for this Wigham credit.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Do you have bats in your bell? Free? They don't
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: even let him use big boy scissors. Sure he's a
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: little green, but uh, you know, sure was George Jobbedia
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Borsh and look how great the he but at least
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: he won the second name.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: Assumingly he don't find those ballot boxes and allho.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: This is all very inside baseball.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: It's way too inside baseball for the Simpsons. This this
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: is so dated, all this stuff, but now at Traded
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: Earth's organic market. This here was a shit show, absolutely
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: so the scienceist cellar by close enough Democratic Party meeting.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: Where you've got Hank sort of recycling his voice for
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: a birdcage.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: But also, yeah, he's like the Springfield's gay character now
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: and he's already got his assless sparkle tucks clean for
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: the inauguration.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's also a play on the Areana Huffington
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: characters Mike Huffington.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Yeah, because he came out as gay. Their marriage ended
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: and he came out as gay, so it's like I
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: don't know satire, but as I read a review of
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: this and the person pointed out, this is your gay
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: representation now, viewers on the Simpsons. This guy, this is who.
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: Is representing you.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: It's like, what a downfall from homophobia.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Yeah, we had a nice round with John Waters there
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: for a second.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Yeah, this this, this is this is what they really
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: This is what the Simpsons ris and really think of you.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: I know it's all stereotypes, but I don't know, it
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: felt like they were sort of getting back some sort
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: of I don't know quality with the Remember when she
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: was Patty and someone. When Patty got married, She's like,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: hell no, I like girls. And it's like, okay, she's
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: of being gay. This guy here's just you stir it.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: Let's just move on and look, stereotypes certainly exists. There
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: are probably many many Julios out there.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: You know. Sometimes I think you've gotta provide a bit
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: of a counterbalance. So they say, with rough on the ticket,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: not sure how we'll block, but we will. That's what
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: the Democratic Democratic Party is all about. So this whole
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: episode is about shitting on everybody. I guess it really is.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: And look, we've had a previous episode where you know,
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: the elephant sort of charges through both like, yeah, we're evil,
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: the Republicans are Evil's.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Like, we can't go that's averone. That's all you needed. Yeah,
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: that was like what a five second gag? Yep. And
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: now the American politicans in a way that this episode
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: simply does not brockmanand does the news report from Wigham
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: compound and he's the most charismatic Charles and Drew Barramore.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: A fire startered when she got mad. They got burned.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: So they say which party you got to go for?
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: And he says, I thought that was not a bad
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: line though, where Chief Wigham's saying there's two parties. You
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: can go to one's guard an elephant, one's going to
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: dunk it. These are the symbols, yes, both parties. He
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: chooses Almo and his shoes. Yes, and they think that
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: he means Republican. And Wigan will have all all.
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: That part about name checking, Oh you mean almost such,
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: and that's like, oh yeah, someone's got access to Wikipedia.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: Fuck you, yes, fuck you. No one knows who you're
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: talking about. So Wigan, will you go for a debates
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: to go? We're gonna sort this out down in the
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: library or whatever. Then Barlow and Johnson sneak into Wigham's
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: house and Ralph then randomly out of nowhere, decides, oh,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: wait a minute, I'm not an idiot anymore. I'm actually smart.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: I'm going to use them to make America great again,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: and only the only Boom members will be in in
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: our pants. And Liz is like, I like the idea
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: of that. He's like, you'll be my first lady. Yeah,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: let's do it, Ralph. And then we get the commercial
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: for Ralph and his campaign and Lenny saying, oh, oh
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: like Ralph, and Clinton says I'm going to vote for
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: Ralph as well, don't tell you know who, and there's
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: a footage of him sitting on the Lincoln statue on
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: sitting on Lincoln's lap, I want this, I want that
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: and a brighter future for America, and it's pick a
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: winner as he's picking his nose.
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: I think the way to wrap this up would have been,
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: you have that episode where it's like they were rescued
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: by let's say mo Okay, I don't know if Rosco
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Lee Brown is alive the Lovely Sting touring time of
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: that actor, but get him back to say or someone
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: like that to say, Ralph Williams campaign turned out to be,
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: you know, a watershed moment in American politics. His you know,
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: fresh glance is fresh take on uniting America actually brought
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: the country together. Then someone realized he was eight years old,
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: and we had to Lisa told you yeah, and then
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: had with let's go what did I tell you? The end?
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: You know what shits me is the fact that she
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: is the one that pointed out he can't actually go
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: for the candidate's candidcy, right, But then at the end
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: she's like, I'll be your first lady. So what Yeah,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: I guess you're speaking symbolically, Lisa. Maybe who can tell?
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Who knows? I just assumed when it ended, I thought, okay,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: well we're going to get something wrap up during the credits.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Nothing nothing, nothing.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: What do we learn, Bomber? What'd you learn from this episode?
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: Dand it? I?
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: What did I learn from this episode? That you'd probably
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: look pretty good in some assless sparkle tucks?
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: You're just learning this now?
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I think I'm your safe word, but I've already
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: forgotten it. Always your safe word, Palamina, Palomina, I feel
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: you know what it is. Viewers and listeners. I feel
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: like that actually is a safe wood of yours because
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: you came up pretty fucking quikly hot out the game.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: Uh what did I learn this episode that I don't
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: really My knowledge of American politics and the American political
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: process is sketchyr best.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: You can't let it from Twitter, then I don't know
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: about it.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: But it's still better than that of the Simpsons Writer's Room.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, or in two thousand and eight. Anyway, seven good
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: career is just done. Not a good episode, A shambles,
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: A shambles. Yeah, I don't know what they're going for,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: e pluribus shambles forward. Your names will be all right,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: mister Davis. It is time for the Guy Davis New
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: Name Championships. The current need to board stands at this
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: in first position, we have Jared Hornby on twelve points,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Adam Wolhouse on ten points, and in third position Kyle
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Muldoon Clever Kyle, and Phil Hawkins on seven points.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: Take it away, Okay, then one point goes to primary
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: school color.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: He's klawing further away as Jared Hornby now on thirteen points.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: He's now three ahead of Adam. As we currently stands,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: you mess with the bull, you get the hornby two
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: points goes to Wig the Dog. Oh, Jared Horney is
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: now only one point he because that's Adam Wolhouse's gained
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: the point is only one point behind.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: Now, welcome to the Woolhouse. We have fun and games,
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: all right, And three points goes to Red Wigham and
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: Blue Red.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: With Steve Roberts. And that's no, it's not his first one.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: He's now in five points. Well done, Steve Roberts's first
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: three pointer.
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: He's coming up. Yes, swish nothing at net exactly right.
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: That's what i'mened the basketball, right.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Nothing but nett. Yeah, I means swish, swish, swish swish. Yeah,
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: so I always say swish. You can say swash tomato, tomato, swastika.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Let's do not say that.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: Let's not say that.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: So Steve Roberts, well done with your three points. Don't
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: forget guys to be a part of the Guy Devers
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: New New Championship. Just got to be a supporter of
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: ours on Patreon. We get access to the exclusive Discord
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Facebook community, one hundred hours of batus content, and so
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: much more. But yes, this is has been our review
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: of e Pluribus Wigham. I feel like it can only
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: be up from here. You know what it is. It's
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: the contrast of last week's eternal moonshine of the Simpson
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: Mind compared to this. I mean that episode last week
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: wasn't like a barn, but it was not the agressive
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: set of all time. But compared to this ship show, Yeah,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: day and night.
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it really.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: It just shows how can to be such a difference
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: in quality week to week. Now it's the inconsistency. You
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: go back to the classic Simpsons, you didn't the bad
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: episodes were still good. The bad episodes now are real bad. Indeed,
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: it's it's like Simpsons season nineteen is the Tom Hawkins
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: of animated show. I feel like wats been pretty good.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: He's retired now, but back in the day though he
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: was very consistent.
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: That's true.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: One of those players wasn't. It's one of those players
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: where if he missed his first show to go, you're like, oh,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: well he's fucked for the day.
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: It's true he had to keep the first one, but
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: you know, next episode, Oh okay, I've been looking forward
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: to get into this one and I haven't revisited it.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: Oh this is when it comes to most hated Simpsons
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: episodes of all time. This is top three. Wow with viewers,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: right with fans. It's called that ninety show, right, written
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: by our man Matt Salmon, who defends it like no other.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: I feel like I'm going to message Matt today right now.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: See even getting one to do the review with this, Oh, okay,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: then you're going to probably hate it. I remember liking
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: it when I first watched it. I have not revisited
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: it deliberately, so I wanted to go in with a
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: season nineteen mindset. I want to I don't want to
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: be comparing it to like a I don't want to
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: watch a classic episode and then watch that and go, oh,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: it's not as good as the other one. We've just
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: had an absolute shit show, so I feel like it
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: can't be possibly as bad as this. But basically, in
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: that ninety show, it's retconning Homer and Marge as if
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: they were in university in the nineties. Right, But Matt
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: someone always says it's not canon, like, it's just it
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: lives in its own vacuum.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: Still, this has the potential to go way off the rail.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: I am looking forward to that ninety show. I'm going
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: to literally message Matt and see availed. At least least
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: we can just chat to and just get his thoughts
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: to be sort of spliced it in. At some point
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: you do that, I will do that for sure, all right?
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: That ninety show will be the next episode of four
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: Fingered Discount. I cannot wait for next week. It's gonna
