From Humble Beginnings to Research Impact: Why I Won’t Quit
Research, especially at a high level, can feel like a deeply thankless job. You work alone, face endless struggles, and rarely get recognition. But over the years, I’ve learned to push through by reflecting on how fortunate I truly am.
I come from an immigrant family. My parents didn’t finish high school. My grandmother, an orphan, raised her family in the harsh conditions of Northern Ontario just to survive. When I think about this—about the sacrifices that led to where I am—I feel a deep sense of privilege and responsibility to change the world for the better.
