- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garren. Well, I haven't really been
- 0:08Speaker 1: talking on here because had a few things to attend
- 0:11Speaker 1: to over the last couple of days, including visiting Danny's
- 0:15Speaker 1: family and paying my respects and my condolences and saying
- 0:22Speaker 1: a prayer in front of Danny himself at the the
- 0:25Speaker 1: body of Danny at the visitation. Uh. The truth is,
- 0:32Speaker 1: I haven't really had monch to process the loss of
- 0:35Speaker 1: Danny voice. I could play all the equips of him
- 0:38Speaker 1: and all that, but I haven't really had a chance
- 0:41Speaker 1: to process with his kindness, his awesomeness, his soul brother feeling.
- 0:52Speaker 2: And that's because.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Or else kept an eye on the winds this week.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I mean, imagine a week you lose one of your
- 1:01Speaker 1: best friends and then in the next minute you see
- 1:05Speaker 1: your buddy Patrick Holgron silver medaling, making it a first
- 1:10Speaker 1: in the Tmusa Paralympics history for that certain sport, and
- 1:21Speaker 1: you're hearing from him out of text him, Hey, congratulations, Patrick,
- 1:24Speaker 1: this is so cool, and he texts me back a
- 1:27Speaker 1: couple of times from Milan.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I mean, this is the kind of week it's been.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And I just said on Instagram, I feel like I
- 1:35Speaker 1: never catch a break because one min and I'm doing
- 1:39Speaker 1: one thing in radio next minutium, mourning my loss of
- 1:44Speaker 1: a friend, staying president in that moment, and I know
- 1:53Speaker 1: processing that loss of Danny will happen.
- 2:02Speaker 2: As well, a p loss of Ernie A.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Nastis a media mentor and uh someone that we all
- 2:07Speaker 1: knew on our television screens.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Earlier this week.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It is tough to come on here and report passings,
- 2:21Speaker 1: shocking passings at that. I mean, Danny and Ernie I
- 2:25Speaker 1: thought were in pretty good health, but.
- 2:29Speaker 2: They were not, and so I missed them both. But
- 2:40Speaker 2: then I'm so thankful.
- 2:41Speaker 1: For this podcast because it literally with speakers app. You
- 2:46Speaker 1: can open this app anywhere and start talking and just
- 2:50Speaker 1: even if it's babbling or whatever or just talking, it
- 2:56Speaker 1: is therapy when I get to talk about these kind
- 2:59Speaker 1: of moments and kind of wins and.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Kind of.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And definite heartbreak and sadness. I'm watching a family have
- 3:13Speaker 1: to stay stay still strong. Though I'm sure that their pieces.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I mean, Danny was such a great kid, and I
- 3:42Speaker 1: know I'll figure out the right way to honor him
- 3:44Speaker 1: in process his loss and talk about him in the
- 3:50Speaker 1: coming days, weeks, years, months, preserving his legacy like I've
- 3:54Speaker 1: tried to do a Max.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And everyone that's gone before us, and my.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Brain can't rest. I mean, we lose Max, my friend
- 4:27Speaker 1: Christian gets married, Patrick wins, Saint John's dominates again. And
- 4:38Speaker 1: maybe it's my ADHD brain that tells me to focus
- 4:40Speaker 1: on all these things. I don't know, but it's part
- 4:46Speaker 1: of my being. I can't not. Maybe that's why I
- 4:52Speaker 1: feel like I'm immediate, cause I have to report all
- 4:54Speaker 1: this stuff, the losses.
- 4:56Speaker 2: The wins, the championships, the heartbreaks.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I do believe, and I'll always say that Danny should
- 5:12Speaker 1: be here right now. Danny was about to launch his podcast,
- 5:19Speaker 1: Adaptive Advocacy, and I thought, finally he's taking that voice
- 5:25Speaker 1: that maybe he got through this podcast but found on
- 5:29Speaker 1: his own, and it's gonna run with it.
- 5:34Speaker 2: He did that this Evasion.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Seminar last year, and I thought, man, I'm so proud
- 5:38Speaker 1: of this kid for finding his voice.
- 5:43Speaker 2: He should have been able to keep that going.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But I always think of Marty Robbins as the song
- 5:51Speaker 1: The Master's Call, and that one line.
- 5:55Speaker 2: That says the yes, there has his reason.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Life is his to take or give, and I do
- 6:08Speaker 1: believe he calls people home when he needs them for
- 6:12Speaker 1: something earthly, to guide from above.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I really believe that's what.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Happens, That people are called home to lead from above,
- 6:35Speaker 1: and that their soul may be so powerful that God
- 6:44Speaker 1: needs their soul home to care for their earthly friends
- 6:49Speaker 1: and family. I'm choking up because I never thought about
- 7:01Speaker 1: it that way. But maybe when he sees a body
- 7:07Speaker 1: that cannot physically continue on, but he sees the soul
- 7:13Speaker 1: in that body, so powerful, so pure.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So so.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Determined to make everybody's lives around him better, he says, well,
- 7:28Speaker 1: when the body can't do it anymore, I'm going to
- 7:34Speaker 1: call the soul home.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Call a soul home so they can lead from above. Wow.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I didn't even think about that till right now. Because
- 8:02Speaker 1: our bodies do get weaker, they do deteriorate.
- 8:10Speaker 2: At some point.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But look at all the people who are doing things
- 8:20Speaker 1: while they can with the gifts God gave them. I mean,
- 8:23Speaker 1: on the flip side, that Patrick Holgaran has so much
- 8:26Speaker 1: to live for too, and look what he did. God
- 8:29Speaker 1: gave him a second chance. He was giving a second
- 8:32Speaker 1: chance after his motorcycle accident. Do you get back out
- 8:36Speaker 1: there now? He medals for the first time in an
- 8:39Speaker 1: event in US's and USA history, so even on Earth,
- 8:46Speaker 1: you could see his plan playing out for so many,
- 8:49Speaker 1: for all of us, for all of us, And now
- 9:02Speaker 1: Danny's called home as Ernie anastis to lead.
- 9:06Speaker 2: From aboff.
- 9:10Speaker 1: And what that means in our lives around surrounding Danny,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I don't know, but he was called home. And on
- 9:26Speaker 1: the adapting side, you know, people have their lives change
- 9:30Speaker 1: like Patrick.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Or their body may not be.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Quote unquote able bodied, but they still can make an
- 9:39Speaker 1: impacte and can inspire society and can live in society
- 9:45Speaker 1: with an adapted mindset, with an adapted body, with an
- 9:48Speaker 1: adaptive spirit. I had strong adaptiveness of that. And we
- 10:05Speaker 1: get stronger through those adaptive moments, don't we. The human
- 10:18Speaker 1: spirit generally does not wanna give up, does not wanna
- 10:24Speaker 1: be down. And I am very blessed to be around
- 10:40Speaker 1: a lot of people who have that fighting spirit, who
- 10:44Speaker 1: have that I'm gonna be here another day, IM gonna
- 10:46Speaker 1: live another day. I'm gonna push through to another day's spirit.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And they never will. They always push and God sees
- 10:59Speaker 1: that push and guess what's further on? Until we can't,
- 11:13Speaker 1: until we can't. But in an autopsy, Turvy world in
- 11:23Speaker 1: a similarly war ridden world right now.
- 11:32Speaker 2: It it is a big.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Reminder this week to celebrate the winds. As hard as
- 11:41Speaker 1: we mourn the losses, we must celebrate the winds and
- 12:00Speaker 1: be excited by them. When tragedy strikes, when death strikes,
- 12:06Speaker 1: when life changes, we tend to.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Think of it as tragedy.
- 12:15Speaker 1: But but Danny himself had so many winds to celebrate
- 12:18Speaker 1: every day, and he did with.
- 12:23Speaker 2: All of us.
- 12:32Speaker 1: So I can sit here and say I am more
- 12:35Speaker 1: thing the loss of Danny and the way I I
- 12:37Speaker 1: need to, I.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Guess, but I can also celebrate the winds.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I can also, as Liz would say, and the day
- 12:47Speaker 1: we would want live my effing life, And that includes
- 12:52Speaker 1: celebrating the winds this week. Even when my po Pops passed,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I never let his passing consume me to not do anything.
- 13:11Speaker 1: In fact, he he made it very clear that I
- 13:16Speaker 1: need to carry on and live life and I have
- 13:24Speaker 1: to the fullest and the bestest. Short an engagement didn't
- 13:30Speaker 1: work out, but it's it's opened the door to something
- 13:39Speaker 1: bigger and better. And that ability to even attempt to
- 13:47Speaker 1: fly around and try and get to city to city
- 13:51Speaker 1: is exciting. That mindset of I'm gonna get that out
- 13:55Speaker 1: there and live life has hit me so hard the
- 13:59Speaker 1: last few months. Danny's passing is inspired me to continue
- 14:04Speaker 1: to live life while I have this earthly body, while
- 14:09Speaker 1: I have this earthly being, and take care of it too,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and take care of it too, so I can celebrate
- 14:21Speaker 1: the winds with Patrick, with Christian, with the Saint John's
- 14:24Speaker 1: fan base, and in my own life. Well, if you
- 14:34Speaker 1: do listen tonight, thank you for giving me a little
- 14:37Speaker 1: time and a little bit of your ear to just talk.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I often have a lot in the cranium and I
- 14:45Speaker 1: feel like it has to come out at some point,
- 14:55Speaker 1: and tonight's the night because I've been seeing win after
- 14:59Speaker 1: when we saw us a baseball beat Canada yesterday, we
- 15:03Speaker 1: saw my friend, I mean we weren't able to get there,
- 15:04Speaker 1: but we saw my friend Christian get married.
- 15:06Speaker 2: He was married yesterday. In spirit, I was there. I
- 15:10Speaker 2: wish I made it.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And I see Patrick's win from Afar being their last
- 15:21Speaker 1: night to watch the Big East, to watch Saint John's advance,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and then of course seeing my radio colleagues Scary Cohen.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Of the Mets and Saint Haul and Dave Pope was
- 15:43Speaker 2: just nice.
- 15:48Speaker 1: And the first night I learned of dating is passing.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I did.
- 15:56Speaker 1: What I was originally scheduled to.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Do, and I went to.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Taramore in the city for their first birthday party, and
- 16:08Speaker 1: I'm like, this is totally what Danny would want an
- 16:12Speaker 1: Irish bar. I didn't drink anything, obviously, but he he
- 16:25Speaker 1: would have definitely been texted that night guess where I'm
- 16:29Speaker 1: a dude and sent the videos of the Irish jig
- 16:32Speaker 1: I did. I mean, he would have been included with that.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I was said at that stuff, you know. But my
- 16:46Speaker 1: mindset has changed from if a friend passes or if like.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Is putting life on hold the entire option. No, it's not, and.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Danny Bob's family will continue to live on in his
- 17:09Speaker 1: honor and his memory. I admit when my dad passed,
- 17:16Speaker 1: I did put life on hold. I did take those
- 17:21Speaker 1: Breyman days to truly, truly honor him and do the
- 17:25Speaker 1: eulogy at the private crematory, you know, private memorial we did.
- 17:33Speaker 1: At the public memorial we did.
- 17:44Speaker 2: But even after his passing, I did not let that
- 17:49Speaker 2: hold up my life entirely.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Because I've realized and maybe my Dad's saying it. In
- 18:05Speaker 1: April of twenty twenty three. Continue to live your life.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Carry on.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Hit me that those that go before us.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Would not want us to put their lives on hold,
- 18:27Speaker 1: but they keep living and living stronger and better.
- 18:34Speaker 2: And I was saying about it this week.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Every loss I've had, I've continued to live on there,
- 18:39Speaker 1: you know, continue the legacy by talking about them, whether
- 18:41Speaker 1: it be on their birthday or their anniversary of passing.
- 18:52Speaker 1: That's how they truly want to be honest, seeing how
- 18:54Speaker 1: we live on while remembering them and honoring them, and
- 19:02Speaker 1: having one leg up on life for them, right, and
- 19:05Speaker 1: having one leg up on life for them. That's my message,
- 19:11Speaker 1: Oh one leg up. Alex Media m
