- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hi, this is Michelle Jolie, a musician and also a music instructor at Long and McQuaid Music.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: So, Michelle, incredible stuff you're doing for the community.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: Tell me a little more about why you wanted to help out and teach kids music.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: You know, um, well, I went to university at McEwan and I slowly got into teaching and I realized it's one of my passions.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, as a teacher, you're helping inspire those young little ones into being musicians.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: And uh it's it's a really it's a win-win type of job for me.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So I I really enjoy teaching.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Michelle, out of everything you do, because you're such an impressive musician, you know, you are truly a triple threat.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: And you sing, you produce, you're right.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: I want to know what do you love about teaching, especially the next generation of great minds.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I love I teach one-on-one.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Um, so I love watching kids, you know, accomplish their first song and they perform it and they're so nervous, but they're so excited to do it, and their family, you know, um just so proud of them that, you know, they've accomplished they've, you know, accomplished a feat of that lots of people can't do, which is play an instrument and perform it.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Um so that's one of my my favorite things uh about teaching.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: And I want to know, because recently you've been collaborating with an organization that you're doing incredible things out there with Gen 7 Path.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Tell us a little more about that.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so Gen 7 Path is an Indigenous-led organization focused on truth and reconciliation.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And we recently just released um our third song together, 1876, about the 150-year commemoration of Treaty Six, and um, which I am.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: I'm Metis, part of Treaty Six.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: And it was just amazing.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: We we wrote this song and we uh were able to perform it live at Fort Carlton, and it's really an honor for me to be a part of such um a wonderful message because it's it's saying, you know, uh it's been 150 years, but we're still standing, we're resilient, and we're moving forward.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Michelle, if anybody out there that wants to get a private lesson uh from you, where can they connect with you?
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, they can call the lesson center at the Long and McQuaid Mayfield um in Edmonton, West Edmonton.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Thanks again for making a difference in the community here.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much, Joanna.
