- 0:23Speaker 3: Welcome back, Return to Glory.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Nebraska's 2-0.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Coming off a 26-7 demolition of Bowling Green. And Saturday,
- 0:34Speaker 3: we get one final non-conference game before Big Ten schedule begins.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Some Hunter Zabernicki, Austin Rhodes, Dakota Freetag. All three of
- 0:44Speaker 3: us here for the first time in a while.
- 0:45Speaker 4: That's who you know is going to be good.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yep, Austin just keeps avoiding me.
- 0:53Speaker 4: I do no such thing, guys. I think I missed
- 0:58Speaker 4: one podcast you were supposed to be on. Other than that,
- 1:01Speaker 4: you're avoiding me.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I think I missed the one that you're supposed to
- 1:07Speaker 1: be on, too. So we're even.
- 1:12Speaker 4: I think it's for the best, really. Keeps our energy fresh.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Well, I want to establish one thing immediately today. Today's
- 1:23Speaker 3: the North Dakota preview.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:27Speaker 3: You guys are going to get cut off your paycheck
- 1:30Speaker 3: if you say North Dakota State at all today. That's
- 1:32Speaker 3: the first thing.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Have you figured out their mascot? I looked it up
- 1:36Speaker 4: after our.
- 1:38Speaker 3: They got to be the Fighting Sioux. I didn't look
- 1:39Speaker 3: it up, but aren't they the Fighting Sioux?
- 1:41Speaker 4: They're not the Fighting Hawks. Fighting Hawks. I knew that
- 1:45Speaker 4: didn't sound right. I was like, that doesn't seem appropriate
- 1:50Speaker 4: in 2026. Surely they changed it.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I've been talking to... I think there's been... More than
- 1:57Speaker 1: five people this week that have mentioned North Dakota State,
- 2:00Speaker 1: it's been about Carson Wentz. They've been like, oh, yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 1: he definitely went there, right? It's like, no, that's the
- 2:05Speaker 1: wrong team. There's so many people that think that.
- 2:09Speaker 3: And they are both green. I will say this. I mean,
- 2:13Speaker 3: they're an FCS team. But I also want to say
- 2:17Speaker 3: they're not Bowling Green. I think they're going to be
- 2:19Speaker 3: much better than Bowling Green. They're 3-0. They're ranked number
- 2:22Speaker 3: six in the FCS. They're averaging 50 points a game.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Their quarterback, Jerry Kaminsky, we'll get to him here in
- 2:31Speaker 3: a bit, I think is pretty damn good. He won
- 2:34Speaker 3: the skills competition at the Manning Passing Academy this last year.
- 2:39Speaker 1: They went.
- 2:42Speaker 3: To Manhattan last year against K-State and had a chance
- 2:48Speaker 3: to win it late on the last year. Ivan didn't.
- 2:52Speaker 3: If you remember in 2022.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 2:55Speaker 3: We were tied 17-17 late in the third quarter. We
- 2:59Speaker 3: ended up winning 38-17.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Which it was not that. It was a lot closer
- 3:03Speaker 1: than what the score said.
- 3:05Speaker 3: So the people that I've talked to are like, well,
- 3:08Speaker 3: this isn't North Dakota State. I'm like, no, it's not.
- 3:10Speaker 3: But you've got to remember North Dakota. The Dakota schools,
- 3:13Speaker 3: all of them, they've done a lot of good things recently. Now, again, yeah,
- 3:17Speaker 3: they're FCS. But out of the three games, I think
- 3:21Speaker 3: people are saying this could be the toughest one. We
- 3:23Speaker 3: said this one or Ohio. Here in the non-conference, yeah,
- 3:27Speaker 3: they're an FCS opponent, but you're seeing North Dakota State
- 3:31Speaker 3: transition this year into Division I and doing just fine
- 3:37Speaker 3: so far. So, like, I think FCS schools, the top
- 3:43Speaker 3: FCS schools are holding their own. They're not, I guess,
- 3:50Speaker 3: maybe what they were 20 years ago. They're a lot
- 3:54Speaker 3: better and competing now. against powerful schools, and I think
- 3:58Speaker 3: this is a game against Nebraska that can just be that.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I guess we hope that we're superior to them, and
- 4:10Speaker 3: it goes like it did last week, but I'm just
- 4:12Speaker 3: not anticipating that.
- 4:16Speaker 4: No, I'm not anticipating that either, especially since I feel
- 4:20Speaker 4: like Their offense is the thing that's clicking pretty well
- 4:25Speaker 4: for them, and our defense has definitely been the thing
- 4:27Speaker 4: that we have the most questions about. These are the
- 4:32Speaker 4: ones that you want to schedule, the ones where they're
- 4:35Speaker 4: actually a talented team that you should beat, that their
- 4:38Speaker 4: strength matches up with your weakness. That's where you want
- 4:41Speaker 4: to be tested, I guess. You say that until we lose,
- 4:44Speaker 4: and then I'm like, what the hell are we doing?
- 4:46Speaker 4: Why aren't we playing Houston Christian every week? What do
- 4:52Speaker 4: you think, Dak?
- 4:53Speaker 1: I mean, this is easily, out of the first three,
- 4:57Speaker 1: the best quarterback by far. If Bowling Green and North
- 5:00Speaker 1: Dakota played right now, I think North Dakota would be
- 5:03Speaker 1: favored by 10 points. And if they're not, put my
- 5:08Speaker 1: whole paycheck on North Dakota. Because they are that much better.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Bowling Green's, I think, probably one of the worst teams
- 5:15Speaker 1: in the NBA. That's from what I saw. This quarterback,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I mean, he's He's going to light it up no
- 5:22Speaker 1: matter what. I think he's going to be a good
- 5:24Speaker 1: NFL quarterback coming out. That's what scares the crap out
- 5:27Speaker 1: of me.
- 5:28Speaker 4: NFL quarterback Jerry Kaminsky? Yeah.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I think he will be. I'd be surprised if they
- 5:39Speaker 1: don't score more than 14 points on us. They're going
- 5:44Speaker 1: to score points.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Well, let's start there with Jerry Kaminsky. He's their quarterback,
- 5:50Speaker 3: as Dak is mentioning. He is 61-79 for 800 yards
- 5:54Speaker 3: here through three games, 11 touchdowns, two picks. He's better
- 5:58Speaker 3: than 70% completion percentage all games, and he's led their offense,
- 6:04Speaker 3: like I said, to 50 points per game here. Now,
- 6:06Speaker 3: their competition has been LIU, which I believe is Long Island,
- 6:13Speaker 3: which is also, I think, who Kansas played week one, St. Thomas,
- 6:16Speaker 3: and then Portland State. And so, yes, obviously they're not–
- 6:22Speaker 3: Big Ten defenses, but they're still dominating these teams here
- 6:26Speaker 3: in FCS play. Actually, Portland State gets to play Oregon
- 6:29Speaker 3: this week. Lucky them.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Lucky them. That's poor them. Oregon's going to be so
- 6:34Speaker 4: pissed that they lost. They're just going to freaking ram them.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Kaminsky's their guy. He makes the whole thing go. He's...
- 6:44Speaker 3: I guess he doesn't play hero ball, but he's a solid,
- 6:48Speaker 3: really good quarterback. Like Dak said, NFL, I'd I believe
- 6:52Speaker 3: I've heard that already this week, that could be an
- 6:55Speaker 3: NFL prospect too. So that is not an original Dak take.
- 6:59Speaker 3: But that is the type of player or person that
- 7:03Speaker 3: we're getting here at quarterback with Jerry Kaminsky. And it's
- 7:08Speaker 3: going to start with him. I think more so than
- 7:12Speaker 3: what we've had the past two weeks. Dak, you called
- 7:17Speaker 3: yesterday the Bowling Green quarterback like, I don't know what
- 7:21Speaker 3: you like, the worst quarterback you've ever seen or something
- 7:23Speaker 3: like that.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I take that back. Well, yeah, he's he's out there.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But who is that team that we scheduled that? That
- 7:36Speaker 1: we were supposed to play Scott Frost game, that quarterback
- 7:40Speaker 1: was the worst quarterback I've ever seen. Oh, who was that?
- 7:44Speaker 4: Oh, I do actually know what you're talking about.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah, because some game got canceled and then we scheduled
- 7:50Speaker 1: a different team. That was the worst.
- 7:52Speaker 4: And then the team that we scheduled was.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't remember who it was. But that was
- 7:58Speaker 1: not a real football team. Like, I don't even. I
- 8:01Speaker 1: think they put that team together the week before that game.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Speaking of that, Scott Frost did beat Bethune-Cookman this year
- 8:08Speaker 3: 77-7 or something like that.
- 8:11Speaker 1: So they've gotten better.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Or the thing's got worse.
- 8:19Speaker 3: The key thing I think that this week is going
- 8:22Speaker 3: to be, especially against Kaminsky to watch is, is our
- 8:25Speaker 3: pass rush. Kaminsky gets the ball out quick. Like Rob
- 8:28Speaker 3: Arch said that too, in his press conference this week,
- 8:30Speaker 3: like we're expecting him. They, they, they deliver balls quickly.
- 8:35Speaker 3: And I think that has to change a little bit.
- 8:37Speaker 3: How you, how you play your scheme. So I, I
- 8:42Speaker 3: guess watch, I would say watch our defense early on,
- 8:45Speaker 3: like especially our defensive backs, our safeties, corners, linebackers, how
- 8:51Speaker 3: quickly or how much we're up there on the receivers
- 8:56Speaker 3: to try to disrupt that. And then what else we're
- 9:01Speaker 3: doing to disguise some of the blitzes and stuff like
- 9:03Speaker 3: that to try to get to Kaminsky, get some pressure
- 9:05Speaker 3: on him so he's not comfortable, especially early on.
- 9:08Speaker 4: I mean, Yeah. No, I, I think that's going to
- 9:14Speaker 4: be the most interesting part of this game. I kind
- 9:17Speaker 4: of like what we talked about last week. I feel
- 9:20Speaker 4: like we've seen a lot of what we want to
- 9:21Speaker 4: see from us on offense. And so kind of where
- 9:23Speaker 4: we want to see most of the, the improvement or
- 9:26Speaker 4: showing our chops is on defense and QB pressure. We've
- 9:30Speaker 4: asked for it for two weeks. Now we have a
- 9:33Speaker 4: decent quarterback to play. We'd love to see it in
- 9:35Speaker 4: week three.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a, uh, Especially this whole, this D-line.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I think this is going to be a big game.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I want to see him get to him this whole
- 9:45Speaker 1: game and rattle this quarterback. Their, now their defense side
- 9:52Speaker 1: of the ball, this part of the game, I don't
- 9:54Speaker 1: think that we ever saw them at all see. what
- 10:00Speaker 1: they're going to see against Nebraska. So I think hopefully
- 10:03Speaker 1: Nebraska will put up a lot of points on this
- 10:04Speaker 1: defense because they haven't played anybody.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Hey, can we not just jump around randomly in our conversation?
- 10:10Speaker 3: Can we stick to what we're trying to do? What?
- 10:15Speaker 1: Well, I was done talking about the offense there.
- 10:16Speaker 4: We're talking defense now.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Enough about Kaminsky.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Well, Dak, we'll save your thoughts for later since you
- 10:26Speaker 3: don't have anything to add on this. So another player
- 10:30Speaker 3: on the offensive side for North Dakota is Chucklingama. He's
- 10:35Speaker 3: averaging 8.8 yards a carry. He's also a kickoff return player.
- 10:41Speaker 3: He's kind of their explosive athlete that we got to
- 10:44Speaker 3: be ready for. I guess... this is the first player
- 10:50Speaker 3: that I've heard or seen that maybe we're concerned on
- 10:53Speaker 3: the kickoff return game this year. So I think our
- 10:57Speaker 3: strategy the past few games has not been to kick
- 11:00Speaker 3: it through the end zone. And that's kind of been rules.
- 11:05Speaker 3: I don't know. Philosophy, I think, in general, is return
- 11:09Speaker 3: the ball. Both ways. Defensively, but let the play dictate
- 11:17Speaker 3: the kickoff and kickoff return game. So I guess I'm curious, too, like,
- 11:21Speaker 3: what do we do with this guy if this guy's
- 11:23Speaker 3: actually the most dangerous all-around player that they got, right? Like,
- 11:30Speaker 3: what are we going to do on the kickoff game?
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Not to jump around back to their offense after talking
- 11:37Speaker 4: about their special teams, Hunter.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Yeah, whoa, yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I'm talking about a stud offensive player.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I know, I know.
- 11:45Speaker 4: I mean, they're basically every running back they have is
- 11:49Speaker 4: averaging– five or more yards a carry. And Charles Legama
- 11:54Speaker 4: is his leader by far, averaging almost nine yards a carry.
- 11:58Speaker 4: But I mean, based off of, you know, we look
- 12:03Speaker 4: at all their stats. I have not watched any other games, admittedly. Sorry, guys. Spoiler,
- 12:08Speaker 4: I don't watch North Dakota games. But they're just putting
- 12:15Speaker 4: up yards on people. I mean, 5.9 is their average
- 12:19Speaker 4: yard per carry across the whole team.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So.
- 12:25Speaker 4: They have two guys... Four guys with over 100 rushing
- 12:29Speaker 4: yards this year. Geez. So, yeah, they have one stud
- 12:34Speaker 4: who's also their return guy, and he does have over
- 12:36Speaker 4: 250 yards, but that doesn't mean that they just have
- 12:40Speaker 4: one guy, it seems like. They've got three guys that
- 12:43Speaker 4: they're just killing people with. Which.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Which Matt Rule did say this is the best O-line
- 12:51Speaker 1: that Nebraska is going to see this whole season. Or
- 12:55Speaker 1: that he's seen since he's been coaching, which that's the
- 12:58Speaker 1: biggest lie he's said since.
- 12:59Speaker 4: He's been coaching. Did he actually say that?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Yeah, he did.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just not true. But these North Dakota schools,
- 13:07Speaker 1: they do have big offensive linemen every time you see
- 13:10Speaker 1: them play. So I do think that's going to be–
- 13:14Speaker 1: really interesting to see how big this whole line is
- 13:16Speaker 1: and that they can move people. So I think that's
- 13:18Speaker 1: what helps the running game a lot, especially against the
- 13:20Speaker 1: teams they've been playing. I mean, they got to have
- 13:23Speaker 1: a good 50 pounds on these D-lines they're playing.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Yeah, no, and not to jump to the receiver room,
- 13:32Speaker 4: but Charles Ngama, Jerry Kaminsky, they're okay names, but you
- 13:37Speaker 4: don't look at the wide receivers. Corey Tide, dang, dang.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Caleb Goodloe. Those are some hell of receiver names, man.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Well, and I'll say this. I think this is the
- 13:50Speaker 3: plus and the positive here. All of these things that
- 13:54Speaker 3: we've been saying that we've heard the coaches say, we're
- 13:58Speaker 3: not overlooking North Dakota by any means. No. I mean,
- 14:02Speaker 3: I think a lot of fans included, too, which that
- 14:04Speaker 3: doesn't really matter. But, like, you heard Rural talking at
- 14:08Speaker 3: his press conference and these coaches, like, they're giving a
- 14:10Speaker 3: lot of respect to a lot of these guys. And,
- 14:12Speaker 3: I mean, rightfully so. You play who you play right
- 14:16Speaker 3: in the FCS, but they're putting up numbers, so it's
- 14:19Speaker 3: not surprising that they have a lot of these guys. So, like,
- 14:24Speaker 3: it will be. It'll be, I think, the most challenging
- 14:28Speaker 3: offense that we've played so far. And so we'll just
- 14:32Speaker 3: see how that goes. I mean, Dak mentioned their offensive line.
- 14:38Speaker 3: We've talked a lot about their explosiveness and all that,
- 14:41Speaker 3: but their strength is their power run football. Like that's
- 14:47Speaker 3: what they like to do. And then run play action
- 14:50Speaker 3: and RPOs off of that.
- 14:52Speaker 4: So Jerry, Jerry Comiskey has got 21 carries this year.
- 14:55Speaker 4: That's seven more carries than our mobile, you know, dual
- 15:00Speaker 4: threat quarterback.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So, and we haven't even talked about that part of
- 15:03Speaker 3: his game. So like, it's just funny. We've, we've, we've
- 15:06Speaker 3: touched literally on about every part of an offensive scheme, identity,
- 15:12Speaker 3: whatever you want to call it. And that's what North
- 15:15Speaker 3: Dakota's doing, which tells you they're doing a lot of
- 15:18Speaker 3: good things, a lot of things right on that side
- 15:21Speaker 3: of the ball. So I think continuing my take on
- 15:28Speaker 3: what we want to see is defensive line pressure and disruption.
- 15:36Speaker 3: I think we've, again, as I've been completely absent, but
- 15:42Speaker 3: That's just something that's going to need to be there
- 15:45Speaker 3: for the second for Big Ten play here if we
- 15:48Speaker 3: want to, you know, exceed our expectations. And we haven't
- 15:52Speaker 3: completely seen that yet this season. We did get a
- 15:57Speaker 3: nice interception on a tipped pass early last week, which
- 16:01Speaker 3: was really good to see. I mean, that's part of
- 16:02Speaker 3: defensive line, obviously creating that.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And then the.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Secondary making a great play in the ball. So that
- 16:09Speaker 3: was a positive, but I think that's just a continued
- 16:11Speaker 3: area of focus on defense is to find a way
- 16:16Speaker 3: to disrupt and make the offense uncomfortable.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Yep. I mean, the focus of the game, I think,
- 16:27Speaker 1: is to not get this run game going at all.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Because you let the run game get going, and then
- 16:33Speaker 1: this quarterback's going to be slinging it all over the field.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Stop the run game, make quarterback throw. That's what I
- 16:39Speaker 1: think the key to the game is right there.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Yeah. I do think we have struggled with mobile quarterbacks.
- 16:47Speaker 4: I would say this year we've struggled with it. Not
- 16:49Speaker 4: that that's atypical for us.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, Ohio's quarterback kind of, I mean, he didn't run
- 16:55Speaker 1: all over the field, but he had some good runs.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Yeah. And the Bowling Green quarterback was supposed to be mobile.
- 17:03Speaker 3: He didn't do shit.
- 17:03Speaker 4: He didn't do shit.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I think it's nice. I don't think anything from his game.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I don't know. I will say that this is probably
- 17:15Speaker 4: the game I'm most excited about of the three. Yep.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Easily.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Can we switch to offense, Hunter?
- 17:24Speaker 3: I was going to say, well, Dax, since you're so eager,
- 17:26Speaker 3: why don't you lead us in the offensive discussion? Why
- 17:29Speaker 3: don't you just take us where you want to go?
- 17:31Speaker 1: Okay, well, I think the defense... I mean, they're giving
- 17:36Speaker 1: up points against these teams, too. I can't remember how
- 17:38Speaker 1: many of these other teams have been scoring, but these
- 17:40Speaker 1: no-name schools have been playing. Yeah, they've been giving up points,
- 17:44Speaker 1: yards against these other teams. So I think Nebraska should
- 17:47Speaker 1: be able to just light this defense up, which would be,
- 17:52Speaker 1: depending on how North Dakota's offense looks, it might be
- 17:57Speaker 1: one you just want to control the ball and not
- 17:59Speaker 1: give it back to this quarterback. Like, get this run
- 18:02Speaker 1: game going against this team. use all the 300 backs
- 18:05Speaker 1: we have again, get, I think it's gonna be a
- 18:08Speaker 1: big game for the run or big game.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:10Speaker 1: For the running game for the offense.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Uh, yeah, it looks like the opponent's average, like 23
- 18:18Speaker 4: points a game.
- 18:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:20Speaker 1: And that's against nobody.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Well, what they've, what they've done a good job of
- 18:23Speaker 3: has been stopping the run. That's been there, I guess,
- 18:27Speaker 3: strength so far this year with who they've played. Um, they're, uh,
- 18:32Speaker 3: head coach is Eric Schmidt and he's a defensive minded
- 18:37Speaker 3: head coach. Um, he's actually has ties to Rob Arch and, uh,
- 18:46Speaker 3: he's been at Washington Fresno state, San Diego state. And yeah, he's,
- 18:52Speaker 3: he's done a good job there. That that's, that's their
- 18:54Speaker 3: head coach's background is, is defense. So, um, I think
- 19:01Speaker 3: we'll see how that plays out when they play Nebraska
- 19:05Speaker 3: and not three FCS opponents. But I do think that, again,
- 19:12Speaker 3: I don't know. I guess if we're comparing the three teams,
- 19:16Speaker 3: this may be one of the tougher defenses that we've gone.
- 19:18Speaker 3: It might be the toughest defense we've gone against, relatively speaking,
- 19:23Speaker 3: to Ohio and Bowling Green.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and then I guess what? I'm looking at from,
- 19:34Speaker 4: I just want to see continued. And like I said,
- 19:38Speaker 4: is there really any area of improvement we're looking to
- 19:41Speaker 4: see from our offense outside of cleaning up penalties, in
- 19:45Speaker 4: the first two games. What are you guys looking for?
- 19:49Speaker 4: I'm just looking to see continuing what we've been doing
- 19:51Speaker 4: the last two games outside of the dumb penalties.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Which you could put a lot of quotations around penalties
- 19:57Speaker 1: after last week. Those blocking the backs, those were.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 4: It's fine.
- 20:05Speaker 3: What blocking the backs are you talking about?
- 20:07Speaker 4: Two weeks ago, though. Oh, no, you're talking... Yeah, two
- 20:11Speaker 4: weeks ago, it was Ja'Cory Varney's block.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Dak, get your facts right before you start speaking.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It's a bowling... Wasn't it a bowling green that he
- 20:18Speaker 1: had a block in the back?
- 20:20Speaker 4: No, he had a holding call that was soft.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I thought.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Hey, I got one goal for Dak. Watch the game
- 20:27Speaker 3: this week and actually know what you're talking about.
- 20:30Speaker 1: All right?
- 20:31Speaker 3: Make sure you know what you're saying.
- 20:32Speaker 1: No, I think if this... If this whole line is
- 20:38Speaker 1: not moving this D-line on North Dakota, this is where
- 20:40Speaker 1: I would get in and be watching this. Move this
- 20:45Speaker 1: D-line or else it's going to be a big problem
- 20:47Speaker 1: come Big Ten time. There better be some running holes open. Again,
- 20:53Speaker 1: not many sacks, which they've been good at so far.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Don't let Kleiner get hit or hurt this game. That's
- 20:58Speaker 1: not a big thing. No injuries in these games. You
- 21:01Speaker 1: don't want any injuries against these teams that you're playing here.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm curious to see, obviously, if we can just
- 21:11Speaker 3: continue to do what we're doing at this pace, great. Like,
- 21:15Speaker 3: keep doing it. And I think we'll like the results.
- 21:19Speaker 3: But I think eventually some team, and whether it's this
- 21:22Speaker 3: week or in the near future, you know, they're going
- 21:25Speaker 3: to start trying to take away what we're comfortable doing.
- 21:28Speaker 3: And that's what teams should do. North Dakota, I think,
- 21:33Speaker 3: is going to try to do that with their defensive scheme,
- 21:36Speaker 3: defensive head coach, all of that maybe slowing down our
- 21:40Speaker 3: run game with our running backs a little bit. I
- 21:44Speaker 3: don't necessarily say I want to see this, but I'm
- 21:48Speaker 3: just curious as the season goes along, is Anthony Calandria's
- 21:52Speaker 3: legs and how those get utilized, whether that be broken
- 21:56Speaker 3: plays or designed runs. I think that North Dakota potentially
- 22:02Speaker 3: could put together a scheme and strategy to force that
- 22:07Speaker 3: to come out I guess if you're Nebraska, you're hoping
- 22:10Speaker 3: that– I mean, I don't know. Have we been saving–
- 22:15Speaker 3: everyone's saying we're saving Calandria's legs and using them until
- 22:18Speaker 3: we need them, right? We don't need to use them.
- 22:20Speaker 3: We don't need them to get hurt. We're maybe not
- 22:25Speaker 3: showing it on film until we have to use it
- 22:27Speaker 3: against better opponents, whatever. Like, is that the case? Or
- 22:31Speaker 3: are we– I mean, are we not going to see
- 22:34Speaker 3: him run a whole lot for– When I say a lot,
- 22:37Speaker 3: I'm not expecting him to run for 150 yards a game,
- 22:40Speaker 3: but utilizing his legs, is that something we're going to
- 22:43Speaker 3: see this week or not? And if it is, is
- 22:45Speaker 3: it because we're forced to see it because the team's
- 22:47Speaker 3: scheming a certain way or our play's breaking down because
- 22:52Speaker 3: defenses are getting more pressure or scheming stuff up better
- 22:56Speaker 3: than what we've seen the first two games? Again, not
- 22:58Speaker 3: so much I'm wanting to see that, but I'm curious
- 23:00Speaker 3: if that's going to happen this game with Calandria and
- 23:03Speaker 3: his run game. We've seen what he can do with
- 23:05Speaker 3: his arm, and it's been Much, much, much, much better
- 23:09Speaker 3: than what expectations were, and I think for everybody. So, like,
- 23:13Speaker 3: I'm just curious, these legs of his, what that looks like,
- 23:17Speaker 3: and will that come out this game?
- 23:22Speaker 4: Yeah, because, I mean, you really haven't seen a ton
- 23:24Speaker 4: of designs. I mean, through two games, he's got 14 carries,
- 23:30Speaker 4: and not all those were designed runs. Some of those
- 23:32Speaker 4: were just he had some room to move, and then
- 23:36Speaker 4: he left.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Um, and that's what I don't know. Will we, will
- 23:41Speaker 3: we add design runs to the script more? Like there
- 23:45Speaker 3: was obviously the one that got called back on a
- 23:48Speaker 3: holding play. Um, so I'm curious, like, yeah, I don't know.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Like Jamal rule said this week, you know, how, how
- 23:59Speaker 3: great it is when you have to account for a
- 24:00Speaker 3: quarterback run game, how much it opens everything up. And
- 24:04Speaker 3: I completely agree with that. It's just a matter of, what,
- 24:08Speaker 3: what is that? And, and if teams are accounting for it,
- 24:11Speaker 3: how much are they accounting for it to where you
- 24:13Speaker 3: can still get something accomplished in that area? So just,
- 24:17Speaker 3: just the quarterback run game in general, just interested, not
- 24:20Speaker 3: necessarily expecting it, but interested in what that could look
- 24:24Speaker 3: like this week.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I don't want to see a lot of it,
- 24:26Speaker 1: but I'd like to see a couple, a couple of
- 24:29Speaker 1: design runs here and there to get before big template,
- 24:31Speaker 1: get it going and see, see what we got.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Well, I guess back to that point, if it happens,
- 24:37Speaker 3: it happens. But like, I don't necessarily like you're saying
- 24:42Speaker 3: I don't want to see it. Well, if we need
- 24:44Speaker 3: it to play well and win the game, then we
- 24:46Speaker 3: better be showing it.
- 24:48Speaker 1: But yeah, if we're at that point where it's where
- 24:51Speaker 1: it's close game and use it. Yeah. But yeah, if
- 24:53Speaker 1: it's a blowout, just I'd like to see. Yeah, just
- 24:56Speaker 1: come place there. I'm more worried about the injury part
- 24:59Speaker 1: of it. Don't don't let him get hits. Take it.
- 25:01Speaker 1: He doesn't have to take and these type of games
- 25:03Speaker 1: for sure. I don't know about you guys. I knew
- 25:10Speaker 1: Glanier was quick and shifty. I've been way more impressed
- 25:14Speaker 1: with him at these first two games than I was
- 25:17Speaker 1: coming into the season. That guy is shifty and quicker
- 25:20Speaker 1: than I thought.
- 25:24Speaker 3: I think he's got a very good sense of.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Pocket presence.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Like, pocket presence and just, yeah, he's awareness. I think
- 25:31Speaker 3: his awareness is very good on just the entire field.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Even though he's short... he's able to identify where things
- 25:40Speaker 3: are coming from, and he has a good awareness of
- 25:42Speaker 3: everything in the pocket.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I mean, we're also coming from a guy that had
- 25:46Speaker 1: the worst pocket presence you've ever seen. Dylan Arella did this.
- 25:51Speaker 4: He did not have the worst pocket presence you've ever seen.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I mean, if the wind was blowing from the south
- 25:56Speaker 1: five miles an hour, that dude was falling down. You
- 25:59Speaker 1: are so.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Classic, man. Oh, thank God we got that guy out
- 26:05Speaker 4: of here. He was absolute garbage.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Oh, speak.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Okay.
- 26:10Speaker 1: A little time on the action here. I did see
- 26:12Speaker 1: an Oregon fan tweet this this week and he was
- 26:15Speaker 1: dead serious. Can't wait for this guy to say if
- 26:17Speaker 1: he didn't, it was a picture of Dylan Raiola. So
- 26:18Speaker 1: they are already ready to put him in.
- 26:21Speaker 3: I will say that. Talking about Dylan Raiola, who knows
- 26:25Speaker 3: how much he'll get brought up. This is another fascinating
- 26:28Speaker 3: Husker fan thing. And Dak's saying it as a perfect example. Um,
- 26:32Speaker 3: you know, all this, like, negative talk about Dylan Raiola now.
- 26:37Speaker 3: But then if you ask somebody, why did our season
- 26:40Speaker 3: end the way it did last year, it was because
- 26:42Speaker 3: Dylan Raiola got hurt. Like, nobody puts those two things together.
- 26:48Speaker 3: But then when you start putting those two things together,
- 26:50Speaker 3: it's like, yeah, keep talking out of both sides of
- 26:53Speaker 3: your mouth. Like, it's just funny.
- 26:58Speaker 4: I mean, there's... Go for it, Dak.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I've listened to a lot of podcasts, and I will
- 27:04Speaker 1: say this. Who would you rather have a quarterback right now,
- 27:07Speaker 1: Calandria or Dylan Raiola? Easily, I'd take Calandria, like, by
- 27:11Speaker 1: a mile.
- 27:12Speaker 3: I mean, I think that's a very general consensus from
- 27:14Speaker 3: what we've seen so far through two games, and I
- 27:16Speaker 3: don't think that's wrong. That's not a wrong analysis. I'm
- 27:18Speaker 3: just saying the strict, like, negative talk and bashing of
- 27:23Speaker 3: Dylan Raiola since he left.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah, this guy sucks.
- 27:25Speaker 3: But, yeah, he's the reason why we– His injury is
- 27:29Speaker 3: also the reason why our season went down last year.
- 27:31Speaker 3: It's just funny. I'm not comparing Raiola to him, and
- 27:38Speaker 3: I'm just saying in general, it's just funny how people
- 27:43Speaker 3: are so hating for him because he left.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:48Speaker 4: I'm not going to say Klandre is definitely better than
- 27:51Speaker 4: Raiola until I see us against some actual Big Ten teams,
- 27:54Speaker 4: but I do think and we talked about last year
- 27:57Speaker 4: that the mobility helps a lot when you have a
- 27:59Speaker 4: subpar line and we've always had a subpar, I shouldn't
- 28:02Speaker 4: say always, we've had a subpar line the last 15 years.
- 28:05Speaker 1: So.
- 28:05Speaker 3: And that's why my, my opinion of, and why I
- 28:11Speaker 3: do think Calandria is much going to be much better.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Like that's my thought moving forward. He's going to be
- 28:16Speaker 3: much better than Ryola. And because of that is mobility
- 28:20Speaker 3: and stuff. And that's just more of a philosophy identity
- 28:22Speaker 3: belief that I believe in.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Um, Do you think Rayola will succeed at Oregon?
- 28:28Speaker 3: I think he could. Like, I think, I think Rayola
- 28:32Speaker 3: still could have a very good career into the professional
- 28:35Speaker 3: career with the right pieces around him. Like I, he's
- 28:37Speaker 3: not mobile, but not all quarterbacks happen. Now I think
- 28:41Speaker 3: a lot of the good ones are, but like, I
- 28:43Speaker 3: think he still could. Now I also will say with,
- 28:46Speaker 3: with Calandria, the, the whole mobility thing and how that goes, like,
- 28:55Speaker 3: I think it's very dependent also upon how teams scheme
- 28:58Speaker 3: around him. So like, that's also a big thing to
- 29:01Speaker 3: watch is, but, but, but, but again, if he's not
- 29:05Speaker 3: putting up rushing numbers or things, it doesn't mean that
- 29:07Speaker 3: he's not good at running the ball. It just means
- 29:09Speaker 3: that other things are opening up for our offense. And
- 29:13Speaker 3: I think that's what's happening so far is we've gotten
- 29:17Speaker 3: a lot more explosive and, and open areas in our
- 29:21Speaker 3: offense because he's, able to run where when you were Dylan,
- 29:28Speaker 3: you didn't have to worry about that at all.
- 29:30Speaker 4: You know what name I haven't heard a lot of
- 29:32Speaker 4: Husker fans say this year? Kenny Minchie. Dak, do you
- 29:36Speaker 4: know who Kenny Minchie is?
- 29:37Speaker 1: Yep. Kentucky quarterback.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Yes.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Had a great week one. I'm not entirely sure what
- 29:45Speaker 1: his stats were in week two, but they were close
- 29:47Speaker 1: to Alabama for a while.
- 29:49Speaker 3: In that game. I was going to say for a
- 29:51Speaker 3: little bit, and then I think shit hit the fan. Oh, yeah.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Then it went south. All right. I said, wow, look
- 29:57Speaker 1: at this Alabama-Kentucky game. It was like 24-23 or something
- 30:00Speaker 1: like that. And then, yeah, it just went south after that.
- 30:03Speaker 4: It was 17-16 at half, and then they lost 45-17. Yeah.
- 30:06Speaker 1: So, yeah, it went south after that.
- 30:10Speaker 4: No one's upset that we lost out on Kenny Minchie anymore.
- 30:15Speaker 3: One more quarterback comparison that I heard this week that,
- 30:20Speaker 3: I mean, in general, we're on the same page, but
- 30:22Speaker 3: maybe this is more to Austin's point on not buying
- 30:25Speaker 3: into it yet If you look at Dylan Riola's stats
- 30:27Speaker 3: against Akron and Houston Christian last year and compare them
- 30:34Speaker 3: to Calandria's stats of our first two games, they are very, very, very,
- 30:40Speaker 3: very similar. Like eerily, creepily similar. So if you're just
- 30:44Speaker 3: looking at that, yeah, you can make that argument. I
- 30:47Speaker 3: think the part that I liked about it, and I agree,
- 30:50Speaker 3: is there's an eye test part that goes with it,
- 30:52Speaker 3: which is why... I have Calandria much better than Raiola
- 30:56Speaker 3: so far. Now it could end up being dead wrong,
- 30:58Speaker 3: but like, there's an eye test part that comes with
- 31:01Speaker 3: it that I'm like, okay, this guy, the way he
- 31:03Speaker 3: he's leading and carrying the team and react. Like, I
- 31:06Speaker 3: think that's all. That's why I feel better about it.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Not just looking just at the numbers, but looking at
- 31:12Speaker 3: the overall production and how things are going. And it's
- 31:16Speaker 3: a belief in philosophy too. Like that's, I think, I
- 31:19Speaker 3: think it's a big thing.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So. Okay. Right, right there. You just said something. Doesn't
- 31:23Speaker 1: it seem like the team likes Calandria a lot better
- 31:25Speaker 1: than Raiola too? It seems like the team is more
- 31:28Speaker 1: pumped up to play for Calandria than they were for
- 31:30Speaker 1: Raiola is what I've been seeing a lot.
- 31:32Speaker 4: I guess I don't know. I don't know if I
- 31:36Speaker 4: felt like our team– I don't know. I don't feel like.
- 31:40Speaker 3: People– Retrospective, yes, but like that's what the narrative is
- 31:47Speaker 3: going to be because he's gone and Calandria is in.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Correct.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Like, at the time, were any of us at the
- 31:54Speaker 3: time during Dylan Raiola talking about how the team did
- 31:58Speaker 3: not latch on to Dylan Raiola? Nobody made that comment.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Nobody thought. Now, there maybe were some comments of, like,
- 32:05Speaker 3: the show being about him. And so I guess if you're.
- 32:09Speaker 4: You want to extrapolate that statement to teammates feeling that.
- 32:14Speaker 4: But I didn't see that on the field. There was
- 32:16Speaker 4: never a time where I was like, oh, man, look,
- 32:17Speaker 4: no one's celebrating with Dylan. You know, he's just running
- 32:19Speaker 4: around by himself and.
- 32:22Speaker 3: you know, like, yeah, like, yeah, you can interpolate, like,
- 32:25Speaker 3: or not interpolate, extrapolate, extrapolate, imply, that's the word, another,
- 32:31Speaker 3: you can imply that maybe that was happening, but, like, I,
- 32:34Speaker 3: I just, I don't, it's funny, because that's also a
- 32:37Speaker 3: narrative everybody's talking about, because players are coming out and,
- 32:41Speaker 3: and mentioning things about how Anthony is in the locker room,
- 32:46Speaker 3: and how he's, you know, getting on people, and it
- 32:49Speaker 3: comes out a matter of respect, like, Everyone's just comparing
- 32:52Speaker 3: that back to Ryola. Like I said, retrospective, we're saying
- 32:58Speaker 3: it now. Were people talking about that during the season?
- 33:02Speaker 3: Like while he was here, before he got hurt? Not really.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Not a lot.
- 33:10Speaker 3: It doesn't mean it's not true. It doesn't mean that's
- 33:12Speaker 3: not a fact, but it's not. It's just a lot of.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Talk now, comparison. I know we talked a lot about
- 33:19Speaker 3: Kalandri versus Raiola today. It's probably not going to be
- 33:23Speaker 3: the last time we talk about it this season.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Let's get some big 10 play so we can really
- 33:30Speaker 4: start to... I do think our team is better than
- 33:32Speaker 4: it was last year. Overall, across the board, I think.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I just think fans are happy that they don't have
- 33:39Speaker 1: to be able to have their TV screen run because
- 33:41Speaker 1: this quarterback will actually run. He will take off. Instead
- 33:44Speaker 1: of Raiola, when you see a freaking 20 yard run
- 33:47Speaker 1: sitting there he won't take off so at least this
- 33:49Speaker 1: guy will use it.
- 33:52Speaker 4: And you say that and then maybe week five he
- 33:55Speaker 4: hurts his leg and we're down to tj latif and
- 33:58Speaker 4: you're like tj latif.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Is tj latif back i i and i we haven't
- 34:05Speaker 3: talked about latif at all for reasons one i think
- 34:11Speaker 3: he is our backup because he came in last week.
- 34:13Speaker 4: He didn't mention that at all.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Like, I think there was a little bit of question
- 34:16Speaker 3: whether him or Kalen was number two. He's number two.
- 34:20Speaker 3: The other thing I'm, I'm knocking on wood over here.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Like you never hope for any injuries. We hope that
- 34:27Speaker 3: Calandria plays every snap, meaningful snap from here on out.
- 34:31Speaker 3: I will say I still, I, I, I'm not falling
- 34:34Speaker 3: off the face of the earth this season. I don't,
- 34:36Speaker 3: I'm not going to feel better about it, obviously, but
- 34:39Speaker 3: Latif has played snaps. He's, I think the style of
- 34:43Speaker 3: TJ Lateef's play is not that much drastically different than Calandria.
- 34:48Speaker 4: That was the big problem last year was TJ Lateef
- 34:51Speaker 4: and Dylan Rayola are two different styles of play. And
- 34:55Speaker 4: those were all the reps we had with Rayola's style.
- 34:57Speaker 4: And so when he went down, I agree with that.
- 34:59Speaker 3: So I just, I'm not like jumping and saying, Oh
- 35:02Speaker 3: my gosh, like it's horrible. I just, I think that
- 35:05Speaker 3: the guy, I think things are going to fit better
- 35:08Speaker 3: if the situation had to come down to it. I
- 35:12Speaker 3: don't think he's as good as Klandry or even on
- 35:14Speaker 3: the same level. That's why Klandry is their starting quarterback.
- 35:17Speaker 3: But I don't feel horrible against it. And because he's
- 35:21Speaker 3: played snaps. He has played in games for us before,
- 35:26Speaker 3: regardless of how you thought the outcomes of those games were.
- 35:28Speaker 3: He's another year older. He hopefully has learned from that stuff, too.
- 35:32Speaker 1: So, anyways. I will not be coming on here if
- 35:39Speaker 1: Kleiner does get hurt in saying Lateef's better than him,
- 35:41Speaker 1: like I did with Raul. That was a mistake. He's not.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Again, I'm not going to give our official prediction, score prediction.
- 35:53Speaker 3: We'll save that for the tailgate pod this week. But
- 35:56Speaker 3: I do want to talk just what does a, in
- 36:01Speaker 3: your guys' mind, what does a healthy win look like?
- 36:05Speaker 3: and what does a successful Saturday come out? I'm not
- 36:07Speaker 3: saying an A, A-plus grade, but let's go both sides
- 36:12Speaker 3: of the spectrum here. Let's start. You can say I'm
- 36:17Speaker 3: going to be too detailed, but what does a healthy
- 36:20Speaker 3: win look like, and then what does a win with
- 36:22Speaker 3: a couple of question marks look like? I guess if
- 36:25Speaker 3: you want to go lost, you can go lost too,
- 36:27Speaker 3: but what does the question mark piece look like coming
- 36:29Speaker 3: out of this game?
- 36:33Speaker 4: I'll kick her off. healthy win. We just dominate all
- 36:37Speaker 4: four quarters. We haven't really seen a full domination of
- 36:42Speaker 4: four quarters. You know, even last week.
- 36:46Speaker 1: I will say last week was pretty damn close.
- 36:48Speaker 3: I get there was that one drive, but you're not
- 36:52Speaker 3: going to see that against anybody from any team ever.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Right, but we didn't third quarter. I would not say
- 37:00Speaker 4: we dominated the third quarter.
- 37:03Speaker 5: Again, if you're looking to see that. I'm saying all
- 37:06Speaker 5: four quarters. No, I'm saying all four quarters. I know
- 37:10Speaker 5: we dominated one, two, and four. We did not dominate
- 37:13Speaker 5: the fourth quarter.
- 37:14Speaker 3: And I guess we'll never do that. We'll never do that.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Nobody but maybe the top two teams in the country
- 37:20Speaker 3: do that. Indiana didn't do that week one.
- 37:21Speaker 4: You don't think you'd do that against an FCS opponent?
- 37:24Speaker 1: No.
- 37:25Speaker 3: I think very few teams.
- 37:26Speaker 4: UCF did that. 77 points.
- 37:29Speaker 1: We dominated four quarters against Bethune-Cookman. Go back and.
- 37:33Speaker 3: Watch that game. We only scored 40-some points. We did
- 37:35Speaker 3: not dominate every drive and possession in that game.
- 37:38Speaker 4: I don't think points necessarily means dominate. 40-some points is domination.
- 37:43Speaker 4: But when you have a quarter where your offense can't
- 37:45Speaker 4: go and your defense can't get off the field, that
- 37:48Speaker 4: is not domination.
- 37:51Speaker 3: I'm just saying I don't think that happens very often.
- 37:53Speaker 3: The definition of domination, I don't think that happens often.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Not where we're at. Well, that's what I want to see.
- 38:01Speaker 4: I want to see us make progress towards that. And
- 38:03Speaker 4: I think against an FCS opponent, you know, or can
- 38:06Speaker 4: we do it for four whole quarters, not just three?
- 38:12Speaker 4: That's what I want to see. I've seen everything else
- 38:13Speaker 4: I need to see. A questionable win is where we
- 38:17Speaker 4: barely win. They give up 30, you know, 28 points
- 38:21Speaker 4: or even if we don't barely win, say we went
- 38:24Speaker 4: 42 to 28. I don't want to see that. I
- 38:25Speaker 4: know it's a good offense, but if our defense doesn't
- 38:28Speaker 4: look like they can slow down, A good FCS offense.
- 38:33Speaker 4: What's it going to look like when we face Indiana, Oregon,
- 38:37Speaker 4: Ohio State? I don't know. I don't know how good
- 38:41Speaker 4: Washington's going to be this year. Washington, maybe.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Yeah, right there, I think you nailed it. A great
- 38:49Speaker 1: win is we just completely dominate this offense, and they score, like,
- 38:53Speaker 1: less than 10 points. They don't do anything with all
- 38:55Speaker 1: this shutdown, this quarterback, everything. Questionable win is this guy
- 38:59Speaker 1: just chucks all over the field. And it's, I'd say 10,
- 39:05Speaker 1: 10 point or less score going in the fourth quarter.
- 39:08Speaker 1: And we, we got our freaking tail stuck in our legs.
- 39:11Speaker 1: That's I think what the question of when is. Yeah.
- 39:16Speaker 3: I think for me, a lot of it comes down
- 39:17Speaker 3: to the line of scrimmage. Obviously their quarterback is, could
- 39:22Speaker 3: be efficient. So I guess I'll start questionable, right? If,
- 39:25Speaker 3: if their run game gets going and they're able to
- 39:28Speaker 3: have some success and in the run game, I think
- 39:33Speaker 3: obviously they're good at it. Like, but if they get
- 39:36Speaker 3: some things going, obviously score outcome, whatever you want to
- 39:40Speaker 3: look at, but like if they exploit, I'll say our
- 39:43Speaker 3: defensive lines, like potential weakness there, I'm going, Oh crap. Like, And, yeah,
- 39:51Speaker 3: FCS opponent, a good FCS opponent, a team that we
- 39:55Speaker 3: think has the best line play so far that we've seen. Like,
- 39:58Speaker 3: that's going to get you going into next week even
- 40:01Speaker 3: against Michigan State going, all right, like, what are we
- 40:04Speaker 3: actually made of up front? And specifically on the defensive line,
- 40:10Speaker 3: but I guess that goes both ways on the offensive
- 40:12Speaker 3: line too. And, yeah, I mean, I think a healthy win,
- 40:17Speaker 3: and I don't, I mean, just, what I said, what
- 40:20Speaker 3: we said earlier, like complete utter domination, four quarters. Like
- 40:23Speaker 3: I don't, whatever your definition of domination is like last week,
- 40:27Speaker 3: I thought was that in third quarter, like, yeah, they score,
- 40:30Speaker 3: but their, it was, their drive was like a 13
- 40:32Speaker 3: play 31 yard drive. Like it wasn't like it was
- 40:34Speaker 3: a like.
- 40:37Speaker 4: Crazy.
- 40:39Speaker 3: And we couldn't get off the field.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:40Speaker 3: But I also don't know like who was playing backups.
- 40:43Speaker 3: There's some other couple other guys in there, at least
- 40:45Speaker 3: defensively offensively.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 3: We didn't go down and score on that drive. I
- 40:50Speaker 3: just think that, like, do what we did last week. Like,
- 40:54Speaker 3: I don't even know if it has to be– or
- 40:56Speaker 3: the second half of Ohio. What I don't want to
- 40:58Speaker 3: see is the first half of Ohio again. That's what
- 41:00Speaker 3: I don't want to see. Like, that was– that first
- 41:03Speaker 3: half of Ohio was filled with, I thought, mistakes. And, yeah,
- 41:07Speaker 3: obviously it wasn't dominating either. But the third quarter, there
- 41:11Speaker 3: were some mistakes, yes, in the Bowling Green game, but
- 41:14Speaker 3: it got better than what it did from week one.
- 41:17Speaker 3: And– I thought from just the complete picture, we dominated
- 41:23Speaker 3: them for 90% of the game. And I think if
- 41:30Speaker 3: we do that again, I don't know if I'm even
- 41:31Speaker 3: expecting to do that again, but that would be a very,
- 41:33Speaker 3: very healthy win as we head in. I don't think
- 41:38Speaker 3: what's going to happen is going to lie somewhere in
- 41:40Speaker 3: between those two. I think it's going to be a
- 41:42Speaker 3: little bit of a mucky grinder game for a little bit.
- 41:46Speaker 3: I hope that's the, I hope it is like that
- 41:48Speaker 3: because they are just a better football team, North Dakota,
- 41:51Speaker 3: not because we are self inflicting ourselves of penalties, which
- 41:57Speaker 3: is something right now that's been a little bit hairy. And,
- 42:01Speaker 3: and just, I hope it's because they're a little bit
- 42:03Speaker 3: better and we're kind of stunned a little bit because
- 42:07Speaker 3: they're a little better, because I think that'll give us
- 42:09Speaker 3: some good adversity and give us a little bit of
- 42:10Speaker 3: a wake up call as we, as we head into
- 42:13Speaker 3: big 10 play. So that's, where I'm at, I guess,
- 42:16Speaker 3: heading into Saturday on what we're going to see. Like
- 42:19Speaker 3: I said, best team I think we're going to play
- 42:22Speaker 3: so far out of the three teams. Which would I
- 42:26Speaker 3: think is what you want before you dive into Big
- 42:29Speaker 3: Ten play?
- 42:30Speaker 1: I would love to see a poll. When it's 14-13, Ohio,
- 42:35Speaker 1: what Husker fans think the season is going to be
- 42:37Speaker 1: to what they think now.
- 42:39Speaker 4: That's true.
- 42:41Speaker 1: It's crazy now. Yeah. Just a game and a half,
- 42:44Speaker 1: how much did the thoughts have changed?
- 42:45Speaker 4: There was definitely some text in our chain. Not quite
- 42:49Speaker 4: ceilings falling, but.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, it was.
- 42:53Speaker 4: I don't remember exactly what you said, Hunter, but it
- 42:55Speaker 4: was maybe lucky to win three games this year.
- 42:59Speaker 1: That's what it was.
- 42:59Speaker 3: Yeah. And again, that was all because of the self-inflicted mistakes. Right.
- 43:04Speaker 3: And yes, it was.
- 43:05Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. 100%. It was what we were doing.
- 43:08Speaker 3: It had nothing to do with watching our players because
- 43:10Speaker 3: we hadn't been able to see them enough. It was
- 43:12Speaker 3: a complete overreaction to the mistakes. It had nothing to
- 43:17Speaker 3: do with– we barely even saw what Calandria was. We
- 43:20Speaker 3: barely even saw the running– we hadn't seen a whole lot.
- 43:23Speaker 3: It was just strictly saying, man.
- 43:25Speaker 4: Yeah. We take it out of our own way.
- 43:29Speaker 3: And this is the first half of game one. If
- 43:32Speaker 3: we haven't solved this now– are we going to solve
- 43:35Speaker 3: it ever under Matt rule? That was that take. And
- 43:37Speaker 3: it still could be true. It's gotten better.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Those were the things that we thought we had figured out.
- 43:42Speaker 4: We thought we had figured out cleaning up the special
- 43:44Speaker 4: teams and the, you know, no more dumb penalties. And
- 43:49Speaker 4: we just need to find the right personnel. And that was,
- 43:51Speaker 4: that was not what I thought.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Yeah. We thought we've like took all those steps like
- 43:55Speaker 3: forward from two years ago, three years ago.
- 43:58Speaker 4: It was a very frosty in first half against Ohio.
- 44:01Speaker 4: And I feel like the, the, it's totally changed since then.
- 44:05Speaker 3: Yes. It's changed in a very positive way, which is,
- 44:09Speaker 3: which has made so far this season fun to talk
- 44:11Speaker 3: about and, and break down.
- 44:15Speaker 4: I still, the first two games, I still moved my,
- 44:17Speaker 4: I went from seven wins to six wins. I've still
- 44:20Speaker 4: moved down. I still don't feel as good about it
- 44:21Speaker 4: as I did going into the year.
- 44:22Speaker 1: You just mentioned special teams, Austin. There is a player.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I got my eye on Archie Wilson. I got, I
- 44:29Speaker 1: got my eye on you.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Wilson, our Lord and savior.
- 44:33Speaker 1: I got my eye on you. I want to see
- 44:37Speaker 1: your puns here. I'm starting to get off the train
- 44:40Speaker 1: on him.
- 44:42Speaker 4: We lost our Mike Eckler. It might not be an
- 44:45Speaker 4: Archie Wilson problem.
- 44:47Speaker 1: All right, well, last thing I'll say is I got
- 44:49Speaker 1: my eye on you.
- 44:50Speaker 3: I want to congratulate Dak on his converted fandom to
- 44:54Speaker 3: the Texas Longhorns, as if you watch this on YouTube
- 44:58Speaker 3: and his Wacky Dacky Wednesdays, Just go check it out.
- 45:02Speaker 3: He is constantly giving him the hook and horn sign
- 45:04Speaker 3: while he talks. He just did it like 30 seconds ago.
- 45:07Speaker 3: He just hits that point home. Big Texas Longhorn, so
- 45:12Speaker 3: I'm sure he's very proud of the way they came
- 45:14Speaker 3: back and won.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Yeah, if Ohio State's coach didn't have his nipples pierced,
- 45:19Speaker 1: they would have won that game.
- 45:22Speaker 3: And pretty soon Dak will be wearing burnt orange during
- 45:25Speaker 3: the podcast.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Arch Manning still sucks.
- 45:32Speaker 4: All right, I'll.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Be back tomorrow with the solo pod, and then we'll
- 45:35Speaker 3: do our tailgate pods again. Hope you've been enjoying those
- 45:38Speaker 3: before the games on Saturday. Lastly, I almost forgot to
- 45:43Speaker 3: do this real quick. Cole Swindell concert is post-game.
- 45:51Speaker 4: Do you feel good that they have to schedule concerts
- 45:53Speaker 4: after football games to get people to attend?
- 45:55Speaker 3: But I'm still excited to go to the concert. uh
- 46:01Speaker 3: we did sell out earlier this week it was officially
- 46:04Speaker 3: officially sold out so um real quick you got to
- 46:07Speaker 3: give me your favorite cole swindell song i will preface
- 46:12Speaker 3: it by saying i've been listening to his music this
- 46:13Speaker 3: week i didn't realize how many good ones he's had
- 46:16Speaker 3: over the years more of his newer stuff i don't
- 46:19Speaker 3: recognize but.
- 46:20Speaker 4: Did you uh did you go when he was the
- 46:22Speaker 4: fall concert in college i think it was our junior
- 46:25Speaker 4: year maybe.
- 46:26Speaker 3: I did not no i don't.
- 46:29Speaker 1: You must love coming here.
- 46:32Speaker 4: You know, that's kind of how it works. You kind
- 46:35Speaker 4: of build a repertoire with the people you see frequently.
- 46:38Speaker 4: I'll go with Flatline. I'm a sucker for a good
- 46:40Speaker 4: line dance.
- 46:45Speaker 1: I will go Ain't Worth the Whiskey on that. That's
- 46:47Speaker 1: his best song right there. Easily his best song.
- 46:50Speaker 4: There you go.
- 46:51Speaker 3: There's the hook. A very... I guess common one, which
- 46:58Speaker 3: neither one of you mentioned, so I'll throw it in there,
- 46:59Speaker 3: is the Heads Carolina, Tails California. Like, I think that
- 47:03Speaker 3: is his.
- 47:05Speaker 4: That's his most popular.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Probably his most popular song.
- 47:08Speaker 4: For sure.
- 47:09Speaker 3: And then the very underrated song that I've liked is Drink-A-Bye.
- 47:12Speaker 4: That's... Drink-A-Bye.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Been one of my favorites, so.
- 47:18Speaker 4: If we lose this game to FCS, I think Hunter
- 47:21Speaker 4: has to perform Drink-A-Bye on the pod.
- 47:25Speaker 1: All I got to say is if they lose and
- 47:27Speaker 1: that concert comes on, that is going to be a scene.
- 47:30Speaker 3: It would be. You're not wrong. I won't be sticking
- 47:36Speaker 3: around to watch it, but.
- 47:41Speaker 1: That is.
- 47:44Speaker 1: I'm not saying I want to see that happen, but
- 47:46Speaker 1: it would be kind of fun to see.
- 47:51Speaker 3: All right. Go Big Red.
- 47:53Speaker 4: JBR.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Go Big Red.
- 47:56Speaker 2: The headlines change, but the mission stays. From Memorial Stadium
- 47:59Speaker 2: to PBA days. Football Saturdays, basketball nights.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Every story chasing.
- 48:05Speaker 4: Red and white.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Recruiting buzz, big time commits.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Camp battles, coaching hits.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Transfer moves and rising stars. The road to glory's never far.
