- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's jump into things.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We are presented by prize picks and our Tennessee, Texas
- 0:06Speaker 2: preview is also presented by prize picks. Boy, we've gotten
- 0:11Speaker 2: back to back to.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Back weeks with just elite games. And this is one
- 0:15Speaker 1: of them that's up there for me.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I know it doesn't quite have the off field drama
- 0:19Speaker 2: that Ole Miss LSU had. I know it's not top
- 0:21Speaker 2: five the way that Texas, Ohio state was, but this
- 0:24Speaker 2: is a phenomenal game in the sec and boy, I
- 0:28Speaker 2: think when you think about contrasting styles, you know, the,
- 0:30Speaker 2: the vet QB versus the young true freshmen, you think
- 0:33Speaker 2: about contrasting styles as far as Sark and Hypel and
- 0:36Speaker 2: what they like to do. This is a really fun matchup.
- 0:39Speaker 2: It sucks that it's at noon. It does not suck
- 0:41Speaker 2: that I'm going to it though. So shout out to me.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm really thrilled for this game. I cannot wait to
- 0:47Speaker 2: hear what Cole's thoughts are on it. And so without
- 0:50Speaker 2: further ado, Cole floor's yours.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a top 15 matchup between two teams that both,
- 0:55Speaker 3: I think, are looking for that signature moment of we
- 0:58Speaker 3: have a ride for Texas. We don't need a 20-point
- 1:02Speaker 3: comeback against an Ohio State at home to be able
- 1:04Speaker 3: to win. But for Tennessee, you know, Tennessee's sitting at 3-0.
- 1:07Speaker 3: But for a lot of us out here, we're still asking... well,
- 1:10Speaker 3: look at who you played. Like maybe there's just a
- 1:13Speaker 3: little bit of a question mark depending on what we're
- 1:15Speaker 3: going to see against a real competition. You beat Texas,
- 1:18Speaker 3: the number one team in the country. I'll tell you what,
- 1:20Speaker 3: a lot of people are paying attention to what you
- 1:21Speaker 3: can be moving forward with a young quarterback, but a
- 1:25Speaker 3: veteran team built around him. I think on one hand,
- 1:28Speaker 3: while we're so focused in on what Texas, I mean,
- 1:31Speaker 3: what you're doing for Tennessee going up against Texas, you know,
- 1:33Speaker 3: this is a new team that you've never faced before
- 1:35Speaker 3: talent wise. From Texas standpoint, They have not been to
- 1:39Speaker 3: a stadium or an atmosphere like Neyland on a Saturday.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Rocky Top rolling and on a checkered Saturday, which is
- 1:46Speaker 3: completely different than any other version of Tennessee football that
- 1:49Speaker 3: you are going to see. So what is that atmosphere
- 1:52Speaker 3: going to be like? The couple of big takeaways that
- 1:54Speaker 3: I have, let's start off with Tennessee. Can you make
- 1:57Speaker 3: life easy for Faison Brandon going up against a defense
- 2:00Speaker 3: like Texas, going up against a defense coordinator like Will
- 2:03Speaker 3: Muschamp that's able to put young quarterbacks in position to struggle?
- 2:07Speaker 3: This is what I love about Tennessee. They are a
- 2:09Speaker 3: veteran team with a young quarterback. So this is where
- 2:12Speaker 3: you turn to your vets and you say, hey, When
- 2:14Speaker 3: there's a seven-yard slant that we need to have, Mike Matthews,
- 2:17Speaker 3: this is on you to go ahead and make the
- 2:19Speaker 3: play against that secondary member. When they're saying, we need
- 2:22Speaker 3: to be able to put our quarterback in a position
- 2:24Speaker 3: to where we can open up the playbook on second
- 2:26Speaker 3: and third down, this is where you turn to a
- 2:28Speaker 3: guy like a Deshaun Bishop, one of the most underrated
- 2:30Speaker 3: running backs in the country, and say, you need to
- 2:32Speaker 3: be able to go ahead and put six, seven yards
- 2:34Speaker 3: on contact. I'm very excited for that. The other thing
- 2:37Speaker 3: is that I want to see from this defensive.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Formation, Can you force Arch May to beat you?
- 2:42Speaker 3: Texas has a good run game with Hollywood Smothers and
- 2:44Speaker 3: Relique Brown. They're both averaging about four and a half
- 2:47Speaker 3: yards of play, if not more. We saw what Texas
- 2:49Speaker 3: was able to do at times against Ohio State's defense,
- 2:52Speaker 3: where they just said, two, take the ball and make
- 2:54Speaker 3: it third and manageable. Zero take the ball, go to
- 2:57Speaker 3: the outside, gain six or seven. Can you take that
- 3:00Speaker 3: away and force Texas to live in third and long
- 3:02Speaker 3: situations and say, if we're going to lose this game,
- 3:04Speaker 3: we're going to lose this game because of Arch Manning
- 3:06Speaker 3: is picking us apart. There have been slow starts for
- 3:09Speaker 3: Arch this season. Now he's looked good, maybe not to
- 3:12Speaker 3: the level of what we wanted, but he's looked good.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Can he be able to.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Now be in an environment where you're not going to
- 3:18Speaker 3: be able to hear yourself think, let alone get the
- 3:20Speaker 3: play in? where you're not going to have to burn
- 3:22Speaker 3: a timeout and be frustrated. And it'd be a third
- 3:24Speaker 3: and long situation where you know it is a passing down.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I think that's really important for the defense for Jim Knowles.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I think taking away the vertical deep ball is going
- 3:32Speaker 3: to be really important in this game. So the matchup
- 3:34Speaker 3: that I'm looking forward to is Dejon Lane, the safety,
- 3:38Speaker 3: and Kaean Lee against Cam Coleman. Cam Coleman can be
- 3:41Speaker 3: that enforcer downfield. He can go ahead and win the
- 3:44Speaker 3: ability to go ahead and force it physically 20, 30 yards.
- 3:48Speaker 3: And remember, Kaean Lee comes on in from Auburn. So
- 3:51Speaker 3: he used to go up against Cam Coleman in practice.
- 3:53Speaker 3: There is some trickery to where he knows his ins
- 3:55Speaker 3: and outs of what makes him click. Can you take
- 3:58Speaker 3: that deep ball away? Because if you do, well, then
- 4:01Speaker 3: you're going to have to dink and duck your way
- 4:02Speaker 3: to success. And I've been impressed so far with what
- 4:04Speaker 3: the linebackers have done, what Kwon Moss has done.
- 4:07Speaker 4: In the nickel position.
- 4:08Speaker 3: You can force an Emmitt Mosley to get a reception
- 4:12Speaker 3: and it ended up being a game of three. you
- 4:14Speaker 3: can take away the element of the speed that is
- 4:17Speaker 3: Ryan Wingo in the offensive side. So if they're going
- 4:20Speaker 3: to have to run it and they're going to have
- 4:21Speaker 3: to win it deep with Arch Manning and you take
- 4:23Speaker 3: away that deep ball, you're basically playing a prevent defense
- 4:27Speaker 3: that forces a lot of punts. And I think that
- 4:29Speaker 3: if you're able to get a turnover early in this
- 4:31Speaker 3: matchup for short field position for Faison Brandon, massive, massive win.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I'll get right back to the power to here on
- 4:37Speaker 2: college football addiction. But first I want to tell you
- 4:39Speaker 2: on the live show this week, we picked all of,
- 4:42Speaker 2: The players that are right next to us.
- 4:44Speaker 1: We really like the more for Trinidad. We really like
- 4:47Speaker 1: the more for Jaden Baugh. I took the less for
- 4:49Speaker 1: Arch Manning. The guys, one of them disagreed with me.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I won't tell you who.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I like the more on, well, you know what? Let
- 4:58Speaker 2: me not tell you all of them. Go check out
- 4:59Speaker 2: the live show where we picked all of these players.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Pair a couple of things like this together. Set yourself
- 5:04Speaker 2: a lineup. All new users on the Price Picks app
- 5:06Speaker 2: who play a $ 5 lineup get $ 150 in lineups instantly
- 5:08Speaker 2: if they win using code HMA.
- 5:12Speaker 1: We appreciate you guys. Now back to the clip.
- 5:14Speaker 3: On the other side, I think that when you look
- 5:16Speaker 3: at Texas, Texas is going to want to run the football.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Texas is 53rd currently in the country right now in rushing.
- 5:23Speaker 3: But Tennessee is 83rd in the country in run defense.
- 5:26Speaker 3: You know what Hollywood Smothers can do. You know how
- 5:29Speaker 3: dangerous Louis Brown is when he gets into the open space.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Can they win at the second level of the defense?
- 5:34Speaker 3: You get past the defensive line, and now they're going
- 5:36Speaker 3: up against Arian Carter. Now they're going up against Amari Campbell.
- 5:40Speaker 3: And then they're getting dragged through it, so now it's
- 5:42Speaker 3: a second and five. Can you win with that formation?
- 5:44Speaker 3: I think the other thing, if you're looking at it
- 5:46Speaker 3: from the defensive side... Can you make Faison Brandon have
- 5:49Speaker 3: to play within the system? If you take away that
- 5:51Speaker 3: rushing attack and they're not able to get anything going
- 5:53Speaker 3: with Dwayne Morris, who we're not talking enough about as
- 5:56Speaker 3: a good number two complementary back alongside with Deshaun Bishop,
- 5:59Speaker 3: it's going to be third and seven. It's going to
- 6:01Speaker 3: be third and eight. And again, Faison Brandon has not
- 6:04Speaker 3: faced off against a good defense like this. He's been
- 6:06Speaker 3: good this season. Not taking anything away from Faison. He
- 6:09Speaker 3: may be the best freshman quarterback in college football. But
- 6:12Speaker 3: going up against a defense where you are forced to pass,
- 6:15Speaker 3: when you have Colin Simmons coming off one end, and
- 6:17Speaker 3: a delayed blitz from Raheem Biles coming up the middle,
- 6:20Speaker 3: and guys like Bo Maskell in coverage against a Mike Matthews,
- 6:24Speaker 3: can you go ahead and win that battle? Can you
- 6:26Speaker 3: take away that element of running the football to where
- 6:29Speaker 3: you know you are going to be forced to pass?
- 6:31Speaker 3: And a young quarterback going up against a veteran defense,
- 6:35Speaker 3: kind of put in this position. I think the X
- 6:37Speaker 3: factor for Texas... In this.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Game is Ryan Wingo.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Because I do think that you are going to find
- 6:40Speaker 3: a way to blanket Cam Coleman. So can you turn
- 6:43Speaker 3: a 7-yard slant into a 30-yard gain? Can you be
- 6:46Speaker 3: able to win at the intermediate part of the field?
- 6:48Speaker 3: Just right past the linebackers. where now you're going to
- 6:51Speaker 3: be able to turn it up, and you're going up
- 6:53Speaker 3: against the safeties, and you're going up against a nickel defender,
- 6:55Speaker 3: and now they're playing catch-up. That's going to be really
- 6:58Speaker 3: dire in this standpoint. And I think another major selling
- 7:01Speaker 3: point for Texas in this game, if you were going
- 7:03Speaker 3: to want to win, you've got to tire down this
- 7:05Speaker 3: Tennessee defensive line. Remember last season, Week 3, it was
- 7:09Speaker 3: against Georgia. Georgia came on out, and they had the
- 7:14Speaker 3: death march. of all death marches, where they just literally said,
- 7:18Speaker 3: we're going to run it up the middle and we're
- 7:20Speaker 3: going to make Tennessee's defense basically have noodle orange by
- 7:24Speaker 3: the time that we get into the red zone. Can
- 7:26Speaker 3: you have that moment if you are a team like Texas?
- 7:30Speaker 3: Being able to trust that your run game is going
- 7:32Speaker 3: to go ahead and just make it third and two.
- 7:34Speaker 3: And then you can throw the football to a Ryan
- 7:36Speaker 3: Wingo when it's a gain of four and you win
- 7:38Speaker 3: the third down possessions. And then we see the end
- 7:39Speaker 3: of that drive and you're in the end zone and
- 7:41Speaker 3: eight and a half minutes are taken off the clock.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I think those are really big keys for Texas going
- 7:45Speaker 3: into this matchup for both teams.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Really.
- 7:47Speaker 2: If you want to be honest, Tom, when you look
- 7:51Speaker 2: at arch in this game, he struggled for a half
- 7:57Speaker 2: or more against Ohio state. I don't think Tennessee has
- 8:00Speaker 2: quite as good of a defense as Ohio state, just
- 8:02Speaker 2: to be fair, but some talent over there for sure.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Um, I don't even know if it was so much
- 8:07Speaker 1: of what Ohio state was doing though.
- 8:09Speaker 2: He was just kind of sailing balls at times and didn't,
- 8:13Speaker 2: he just doesn't, I think arch is good. I'm not
- 8:15Speaker 2: a March arch hater by any means, but he just,
- 8:17Speaker 2: he doesn't look super sharp to me at this moment.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I don't think he looks super sharp in the, in
- 8:22Speaker 2: the condensed version of the game that I watched that
- 8:23Speaker 2: they just played.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Um, was it Texas state or who did they play on,
- 8:26Speaker 1: on Saturday?
- 8:27Speaker 5: Um, UTSA UTSA.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Yup.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So I didn't think he looked super sharp in that.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I think that's a big question for me is the,
- 8:35Speaker 2: the arch that you get, not, not that it's all
- 8:37Speaker 2: on his shoulders because cams there too.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And Ryan's there too. And Hollywood's there too.
- 8:41Speaker 2: And really like, there's a lot of guys, but the,
- 8:44Speaker 2: the version of arts that you get historically, I don't
- 8:47Speaker 2: think he's been great on the road. I think he's
- 8:50Speaker 2: had moments. You think about their, their losses, they've all
- 8:55Speaker 2: come on the road. And so I, I think this is,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I mean, it's only a four and a half, five
- 9:00Speaker 2: and a half point spread. Like it, you know, Vegas
- 9:02Speaker 2: is not telling you, Oh, the number one team in
- 9:03Speaker 2: the country is going to walk in and just beat
- 9:05Speaker 2: the tar out of the volunteers. I think this is
- 9:07Speaker 2: very much a, a man, the version of arch that
- 9:10Speaker 2: we get this week. And conversely, the version of the
- 9:13Speaker 2: true freshmen that we get to playing against the defense
- 9:16Speaker 2: that he's not seen anything like that's the difference, you know,
- 9:19Speaker 2: that that's a big part of this.
- 9:22Speaker 6: Yeah, you're going to hear the talking heads on ESPN
- 9:25Speaker 6: remind you that, did you know Peyton Manning played at Tennessee?
- 9:28Speaker 5: You're going to hear that a bunch.
- 9:30Speaker 6: And probably to a small degree, that could be in
- 9:33Speaker 6: the back of the mind of Arch Manning, at least
- 9:35Speaker 6: in the lead up to the game. But when it
- 9:37Speaker 6: comes to this, you're playing in one of the most
- 9:39Speaker 6: hostile environments in all of college football. So this is
- 9:42Speaker 6: going to be a challenge, period. If I'm Jim Knowles
- 9:45Speaker 6: and this Tennessee defense... You know your strength is the
- 9:48Speaker 6: interior of your defensive line. Xavier Gilliam, the transfer from
- 9:51Speaker 6: Penn State, has been very, very good for them this season.
- 9:53Speaker 6: This will be a step up in competition for him
- 9:55Speaker 6: to deal with, but I still think he can have
- 9:57Speaker 6: success against the interior of that offensive line. line for Texas.
- 10:01Speaker 6: I love what the linebackers look like. Another transfer from
- 10:03Speaker 6: Penn State and UNC before that, Namari Campbell and Arian Carter,
- 10:06Speaker 6: obviously leading the way.
- 10:08Speaker 5: That's been the strength.
- 10:09Speaker 6: So if I'm Tennessee, I'm maybe electing to take away
- 10:14Speaker 6: the run and putting it on Arch. The thing that's
- 10:16Speaker 6: been intriguing about this passing game, to the points that
- 10:19Speaker 6: you just made, TJ, Arch has looked unsure of himself.
- 10:23Speaker 6: He often operates better when he's improvising. And we just
- 10:26Speaker 6: saw the greatest improviser quarterback in the country in Trinidad
- 10:29Speaker 6: Chambliss this past weekend against LSU.
- 10:32Speaker 5: It's not quite that.
- 10:32Speaker 6: I don't know how much Sark really lets him just
- 10:35Speaker 6: kind of dial things up. But if there's not a
- 10:37Speaker 6: run game to support Arch, that's where you'd be a
- 10:41Speaker 6: little bit worried as a Texas fan. But I think
- 10:43Speaker 6: they're going to be able to find enough success to
- 10:44Speaker 6: move the football and put them in third and manageable
- 10:47Speaker 6: situations like Cole pointed out. The thing that's really interesting
- 10:50Speaker 6: for me so far this season, Cam Coleman, 11 catches. Wingo,
- 10:53Speaker 6: 13 catches. Mosley, 11 catches. You might think that because
- 10:58Speaker 6: Cam Coleman's standing over there, you'd force feed him. Kind
- 11:00Speaker 6: of like what Julian Sane and Ohio State have done
- 11:03Speaker 6: with Jeremiah Smith. And we saw that backfired in the
- 11:05Speaker 6: second half of the game in Austin. This offense is
- 11:09Speaker 6: not necessarily about one person. And I think that benefits
- 11:12Speaker 6: Arch is that he can play within the system. And
- 11:14Speaker 6: it's not, hey, look for number eight and then take off.
- 11:18Speaker 5: You do wonder, though. I don't know.
- 11:21Speaker 6: I think I disagree with Cole in that, yes, I
- 11:23Speaker 6: think Dajon Lane is a talented safety, but I don't
- 11:26Speaker 6: know if Tennessee has the people to cover Cam Coleman
- 11:29Speaker 6: for four consecutive quarters if he was focused on within
- 11:33Speaker 6: the passing game in a way that deviates from what
- 11:35Speaker 6: Texas has done so far this season. Sark pretty much
- 11:39Speaker 6: is going to stick to his guns for the most part.
- 11:41Speaker 6: I think it behooves Arch to be able to have
- 11:44Speaker 6: a number of options in the passing game in this one.
- 11:46Speaker 6: So I think that's going to be the path to success.
- 11:48Speaker 6: I think he's still going to be a little bit,
- 11:51Speaker 6: you know, not as clean as you would like is
- 11:56Speaker 6: the best way to put it. I think he's still
- 11:58Speaker 6: figuring things out. The guy we saw at quarterback at
- 12:01Speaker 6: the back half of last season, he's not shown up
- 12:04Speaker 6: quite yet. I think he'll get there, but I don't
- 12:07Speaker 6: necessarily think he's going to get there in this hostile
- 12:09Speaker 6: of an environment.
- 12:10Speaker 5: On the flip side of the ball.
- 12:12Speaker 6: I think what Texas can do, I'm sorry, what Tennessee
- 12:15Speaker 6: can do offensively Texas should have answers for it. They
- 12:20Speaker 6: should have answers against their pass catchers. They should have
- 12:23Speaker 6: answers in the pass rush and the likes of Colin
- 12:25Speaker 6: Simmons and other pieces. It's going to be a matter
- 12:28Speaker 6: of how much do they get out of Bishop?
- 12:30Speaker 5: How much do they get out of the running game?
- 12:32Speaker 6: Because I think that sets the table for everything that
- 12:35Speaker 6: Tennessee wants to do, because you can't put this all
- 12:38Speaker 6: on phase on Brandon whatsoever. I completely agree with that
- 12:41Speaker 6: point that Cole made earlier. Honestly, I don't feel like
- 12:44Speaker 6: there will be a ton of turnovers in this game.
- 12:46Speaker 6: I feel like there will be one backbreaker at some point.
- 12:49Speaker 6: That's going to be really critical in this game. I'm
- 12:51Speaker 6: really excited about this one. This feels like a coin flip.
- 12:54Speaker 6: I know Texas is favored by five and a half,
- 12:56Speaker 6: but Tennessee getting the home turf advantage and the way
- 12:58Speaker 6: that Brandon is played, the way that running game looks,
- 13:00Speaker 6: the way the defense feels like they can compete, I
- 13:03Speaker 6: feel like there's a chance this can be close.
- 13:05Speaker 5: I'm still leaning towards the long.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Out of curiosity, do you guys think that the environment
- 13:10Speaker 3: of Neyland, knowing what this game means and just knowing
- 13:14Speaker 3: how that atmosphere is, does that play any bit of
- 13:17Speaker 3: a role in maybe it being in favor of Tennessee
- 13:20Speaker 3: if they can rattle Arch early?
- 13:22Speaker 5: Yeah, you rattle them early.
- 13:24Speaker 6: And like I said, yes, the lore of Peyton Manning
- 13:28Speaker 6: looms large at Tennessee. So all the talking points are
- 13:32Speaker 6: going to be there in the lead up to this.
- 13:34Speaker 6: And I think the Manning family is going to be
- 13:36Speaker 6: obviously in attendance for this to support Arch.
- 13:38Speaker 5: So I think there's that.
- 13:40Speaker 6: I think the Vols realizing the significance of this victory,
- 13:43Speaker 6: what it could mean for them for the rest of
- 13:45Speaker 6: their season, they're going to be putting as much heat
- 13:47Speaker 6: as humanly possible on Arch Manning in this game. So yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 6: I think home field advantage genuinely matters in college football.
- 13:53Speaker 6: It matters in the SEC. It matters in this matchup. Arch,
- 13:57Speaker 6: even though he was at home, He didn't look comfortable
- 14:01Speaker 6: until the fourth quarter, really, against Ohio State. He's got
- 14:05Speaker 6: to speed up that clock a little bit. But kind
- 14:07Speaker 6: of like we saw with Sam Levitt in LSU, he
- 14:10Speaker 6: didn't really feel settled down at all in that game.
- 14:13Speaker 6: And Lane Kiffin talked about it after the fact. When
- 14:15Speaker 6: a quarterback has their confidence shaken early, it's tough to
- 14:18Speaker 6: get it back.
- 14:19Speaker 5: I don't know if Arch... Arch doesn't strike me as
- 14:22Speaker 5: that type of quarterback. You know what I mean?
- 14:24Speaker 6: He got his confidence later. If anything, he got more
- 14:26Speaker 6: confident as the game went on. It was shaky at first,
- 14:29Speaker 6: some deer legs, and then he got it together. This
- 14:31Speaker 6: is going to be a whole different beast for him.
- 14:34Speaker 2: In the game in Athens last year, he had a
- 14:35Speaker 2: first-half interception. In the game at Kentucky last year, he
- 14:38Speaker 2: finished with 132 yards. In the game at Mississippi State,
- 14:43Speaker 2: he had a first-half interception. And then I didn't look
- 14:46Speaker 2: up the game against Florida, but obviously they took the
- 14:49Speaker 2: L there.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I don't remember specifically.
- 14:51Speaker 4: I think he had two picks in that game.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Yeah, two interceptions.
- 14:56Speaker 2: They both did come in the fourth quarter, not the
- 14:58Speaker 2: first half.
- 14:58Speaker 6: Right.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Some, you know, but yeah, on the road, he's not
- 15:02Speaker 2: been as good, which is understandable. It's a lot harder
- 15:05Speaker 2: to play on the road than it is at home.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And so I get that.
- 15:09Speaker 2: And that's a different, those are different levels of teams
- 15:11Speaker 2: to Kentucky fired coach, Florida fired coach, Mississippi state awful
- 15:15Speaker 2: last year.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Georgia, I'll give you that one. Like, I'll give you
- 15:19Speaker 1: the Athens game. Like, no worries. Yeah. Being on the
- 15:24Speaker 1: road is.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I mean, it definitely has a propensity to have an impact.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I don't know specifically that it will. Maybe he hears
- 15:31Speaker 2: this podcast. Make sure you're subscribed, Arch. Maybe he hears
- 15:33Speaker 2: this podcast and we inspire him by doubting him. But, like,
- 15:36Speaker 2: his track record has shown that he's not as good
- 15:38Speaker 2: on the road.
- 15:39Speaker 1: And so I... you know, now execution matters.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Tennessee's defense has got to show up and they've had
- 15:44Speaker 2: a lot of injuries on that side of the ball.
- 15:45Speaker 2: And it's certainly a concern, but yeah, I think we're
- 15:48Speaker 2: very well within our rights to say he needs to
- 15:51Speaker 2: go out and prove it on the road. And if
- 15:53Speaker 2: he doesn't do it this week, then you're wondering, all right,
- 15:55Speaker 2: is he ever going to.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Do it on the road?
- 15:56Speaker 2: And Neyland is a, I mean, a hundred thousand people, man,
- 15:58Speaker 2: like this is not like you're not, I mean, you're
- 16:01Speaker 2: not going to do it on, you know, in Starkville or,
- 16:04Speaker 2: you know, which again, I mean, went there last year.
- 16:07Speaker 1: You're not going to Missouri. This isn't, you know, some, no,
- 16:10Speaker 1: no atmosphere stadium. Like this place is going to be
- 16:12Speaker 1: a circus at noon on Saturday.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Yeah. I, I think that while everything is going to
- 16:18Speaker 3: be focused in on arch, the other thing that I
- 16:20Speaker 3: would be really focused in on is can you, if
- 16:23Speaker 3: you're Steve Sarkisian, not get into your bag of tricks,
- 16:25Speaker 3: if it's not necessary. Cause the thing that I really
- 16:28Speaker 3: wonder about is that, will you try something just to
- 16:30Speaker 3: go ahead and go pound for pound with another offensive
- 16:34Speaker 3: guru like Josh Hypel?
- 16:35Speaker 4: And it ends up backfiring.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I mean, like to go back to that, go back
- 16:38Speaker 3: to week two, Fourth down call. You're running it efficiently
- 16:42Speaker 3: against Ohio State's defensive line. You're getting yards after contact
- 16:45Speaker 3: with Hollywood Smothers. In what damn world is calling a
- 16:50Speaker 3: jet sweep with your wide receiver the right play here?
- 16:54Speaker 4: And in an.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Environment like Neyland, where you already are probably going to
- 16:57Speaker 3: have to burn a timeout because you can't get the
- 16:59Speaker 3: play in in time because the atmosphere is going to
- 17:02Speaker 3: be so big. It's little moments like that that can
- 17:04Speaker 3: carry a lot of weight. I think that, again, veteranship
- 17:07Speaker 3: plays a massive role for this Texas team, but it's
- 17:09Speaker 3: not like Tennessee is like this young up-and-coming roster. It's
- 17:13Speaker 3: a young quarterback with a veteran offensive line, with veteran receivers,
- 17:17Speaker 3: with a veteran running back play, with guys who have
- 17:20Speaker 3: been a part of a Jim Knowles defense or in
- 17:22Speaker 3: that type of formation before that still are gelling.
- 17:24Speaker 4: But they've been in these type of games in the past.
- 17:27Speaker 3: So... You know, can you, if you are Steve Sarkisian,
- 17:30Speaker 3: stick to the script and maybe not try to go
- 17:32Speaker 3: so off-key because if you want to flex your muscles
- 17:34Speaker 3: and say, look, I know ball better than anybody else
- 17:36Speaker 3: out there. That's, I think, a big storyline that not
- 17:39Speaker 3: enough people will pay attention to. Like, if you told
- 17:41Speaker 3: me that this game came down to one play and
- 17:42Speaker 3: it's because somebody messed on up, I don't think it
- 17:45Speaker 3: would be Hypel. I think it would be Sark making
- 17:47Speaker 3: the wrong decision at the worst time possible.
- 17:51Speaker 2: As much as Josh Hypel, you know, pulls levers and...
- 17:57Speaker 2: controls what's going on with them. I feel like he
- 18:00Speaker 2: does such a good job. This has nothing to do
- 18:01Speaker 2: with the game, but I just told point made me
- 18:03Speaker 2: think about it. How many like massive brutal mistakes do
- 18:08Speaker 2: you remember him making? Like where it costs his seat?
- 18:10Speaker 2: Like they've under executed. Remember that game in Arkansas a
- 18:13Speaker 2: couple of years ago? Like they've, they've gone out and
- 18:15Speaker 2: played poorly in games, but like where he makes a
- 18:18Speaker 2: dumb decision and like, I'm not, I don't want to
- 18:21Speaker 2: say like Mario ask against Georgia tech, but like something
- 18:24Speaker 2: like that, I got, or, or Napier, like snapping the
- 18:26Speaker 2: ball through a guy's legs on a fourth down against Georgia.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Like just things that you're like, Doug, what are you
- 18:31Speaker 2: doing here? I think Hypo does a really good job
- 18:33Speaker 2: of staying within himself. I think that's an underrated aspect
- 18:36Speaker 2: of how much, how much, you know, lever pulling he's
- 18:40Speaker 2: doing at all times. He does a good job of
- 18:42Speaker 2: staying within himself, I guess is my major point.
- 18:45Speaker 3: I'm trying to remember if there was a point in
- 18:47Speaker 3: the game against Mississippi State last year. Because I know
- 18:49Speaker 3: they were trailing at one point. If I'm not mistaken,
- 18:53Speaker 3: they blew the lead. Because there was the fumble return
- 18:56Speaker 3: for the touchdown where they took the lead. They allowed
- 18:58Speaker 3: Mississippi State to get the field goal. There was a
- 19:00Speaker 3: bad interception.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Then they scored a touchdown. They came back. And they
- 19:04Speaker 4: tied at 34.
- 19:06Speaker 3: But I'm wondering if in that game, was there a
- 19:07Speaker 3: moment that he royally screwed on up that allowed Mississippi
- 19:10Speaker 3: State to gain momentum?
- 19:11Speaker 4: But again, what you said is it's seldom. Like maybe
- 19:14Speaker 4: if you like, I don't know. You know what?
- 19:17Speaker 3: There, there, the one thing I will say, and this
- 19:20Speaker 3: is just me personally, and it's not because of it's
- 19:22Speaker 3: the team that I pull.
- 19:22Speaker 1: It's because you hate every team, bro.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Every exactly.
- 19:26Speaker 5: Exactly.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I would not have tried to throw it into the
- 19:29Speaker 3: end zone on that one play to Zabian Brown last
- 19:32Speaker 3: season and.
- 19:33Speaker 4: The third Saturday in October, right before halftime, where they
- 19:35Speaker 4: go out and they get the pick six.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Cause that's when I think momentum immediately went over all
- 19:39Speaker 3: the way over to Alabama. But besides that, I'm nitpicking here.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I'll tell you that is nitpicky because a better throw
- 19:45Speaker 2: and you're up to, you know, like you're up to score.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Or they weren't up. No, but you're not, you're not
- 19:51Speaker 1: down to.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I think they would have been trailing by three.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Maybe I'll tell you a second.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 1: They were down 10 and that made it 17. That
- 19:59Speaker 1: was it.
- 19:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yep.
- 20:00Speaker 1: All right, Tom, who are you picking?
- 20:05Speaker 6: I'm going with Texas in this one. I think it's
- 20:08Speaker 6: going to be, I think it's going to be competitive.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I want to say this is like 27-24. I think
- 20:15Speaker 6: there's a chance Tennessee covers. But, man, yeah, I still
- 20:19Speaker 6: think I favor Texas. I like their overall talent for
- 20:22Speaker 6: the most part. Yeah.
- 20:24Speaker 3: I think this is actually going to be a really
- 20:25Speaker 3: rocky game to begin for Texas.
- 20:27Speaker 4: I do.
- 20:28Speaker 1: On a rocky top.
- 20:29Speaker 5: No pun intended.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, let's go, Dolly.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Listen, by the way, fun story.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Not only is this the battle of the UTs, this
- 20:36Speaker 3: is a battle of country music, of Texas versus Tennessee.
- 20:39Speaker 4: So who's better, Dolly or George Strait? I mean, a
- 20:42Speaker 4: lot of people will go ahead and make that comparison.
- 20:44Speaker 3: I think that what really sells me in this game
- 20:47Speaker 3: is that as much as the environment is so hospitable,
- 20:51Speaker 3: I've seen Texas be in the situation before with a
- 20:54Speaker 3: quarterback like Arch Manning, and I haven't seen it from
- 20:56Speaker 3: face on Brandon.
- 20:57Speaker 4: And I will take Texas by four.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I got 31-27.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Good old Rocky top 34, 31 Tennessee wins an absolute thriller.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I am because I'm going to be there.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I'm going to, I'm willing this into existence. I, I
- 21:13Speaker 2: would like to see that place, just the, the roof
- 21:16Speaker 2: blow off of it, the non-existent roof. But yeah, I, I,
- 21:20Speaker 2: I think yeah, Texas is the better team. Tennessee needs
- 21:24Speaker 2: to be the better team for, Yeah. More of the
- 21:28Speaker 2: game than they're not 31 minutes.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Can they do that? I don't know.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I do think arch could have some shaky stuff that happens.
- 21:35Speaker 2: I almost wonder for phase on. He's so inexperienced and
- 21:39Speaker 2: you always wonder like, Oh, well, can he do it
- 21:40Speaker 2: in this big moment with all this pressure?
- 21:42Speaker 1: You know what?
- 21:43Speaker 4: He's 18.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I don't want to pretend like he doesn't know. But
- 21:48Speaker 2: like sometimes when you're just a, you're just like, you're
- 21:50Speaker 2: just a kid. Like you don't know what you don't know, man.
- 21:52Speaker 2: You just go out and play.
- 21:53Speaker 1: And maybe him being loose screws them up.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Maybe him being loose is like the best thing that
- 21:59Speaker 2: could possibly happen for Tennessee. I think Josh will put
- 22:03Speaker 2: him in really good situations. I think the team that
- 22:04Speaker 2: runs the ball better will have a great chance in
- 22:06Speaker 2: this game. If Bishop and Morris and those guys can
- 22:08Speaker 2: get going, then Tennessee will do great. If it's smothers
- 22:11Speaker 2: in the other side, they'll probably win, but how the
- 22:14Speaker 2: trenches match up. I think Tennessee has got a better
- 22:16Speaker 2: offensive line. in the matchup, but I think Texas has
- 22:18Speaker 2: a better defensive line.
- 22:19Speaker 1: So it's good on good. This is a phenomenal game.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Like it's not the notoriety of LSU Ole Miss, but
- 22:27Speaker 2: I think it's every bit as good.
- 22:28Speaker 1: So phenomenal.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Out of curiosity, if you could just humor me, because
- 22:35Speaker 3: Tom and I both picked Texas to win.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Scale of one to 10, you'd be surprised at this
- 22:40Speaker 4: upset or upset.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Five.
- 22:46Speaker 4: See, I'm at a two.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Like, I easily could see Tennessee winning this football game. Like,
- 22:51Speaker 3: I teetered this before going into today. Like, I really
- 22:54Speaker 3: went back and I was like, I was trying to
- 22:56Speaker 3: find every reason why Texas would lose. And I just
- 22:59Speaker 3: think it's the veteran quarterback is going to do enough.
- 23:01Speaker 4: But I'm at a two. If you told me Tennessee
- 23:03Speaker 4: wins this one by seven, I won't be surprised whatsoever.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Not even a little bit.
- 23:07Speaker 6: I think this is a coin flip and like even
- 23:09Speaker 6: just projecting ahead a little bit for Tennessee.
- 23:11Speaker 5: Next, you host Auburn. You should be better than that team.
- 23:14Speaker 5: You're at Arkansas.
- 23:15Speaker 6: You should definitely be better than that team. You host Alabama.
- 23:18Speaker 6: There's another coin flip and like I kind of like Tennessee.
- 23:20Speaker 5: At home in that one. That feels pretty good.
- 23:22Speaker 6: At South Carolina, definitely like Tennessee. Hosting Kentucky. Kentucky is
- 23:28Speaker 6: going to jump up and bite people. We talked about
- 23:29Speaker 6: that in the offseason, but like Competitive game, but I
- 23:32Speaker 6: still like Tennessee.
- 23:33Speaker 5: Tennessee at Texas.
- 23:34Speaker 6: A & M late in the season as a definite
- 23:38Speaker 6: college football playoff eliminator. I like Tennessee again. Home against LSU,
- 23:43Speaker 6: a tough one. And then at Vandy to end the season,
- 23:45Speaker 6: I like Tennessee in that one, even though they've had
- 23:47Speaker 6: their struggles with Vandy over the years. Tennessee's got a
- 23:51Speaker 6: good road ahead of them. They're fortunate with the way
- 23:53Speaker 6: the rest of the schedule shakes out. But if you
- 23:55Speaker 6: win this, I think this helps Josh Heupel long-term as.
- 23:59Speaker 5: The head coach.
- 24:00Speaker 6: And I think I know he's not going anywhere, but
- 24:03Speaker 6: you win a game like this. This buys you three years.
