- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to Wired to Hunts rut Fresh Radio, bringing you
- 0:05Speaker 1: the latest reports from the White Tail Woods and now
- 0:09Speaker 1: your hosts, Casey Smith Tyler Jones. This is Rutfish Radio
- 0:13Speaker 1: powered by Vortics Optics. I'm your host Casey Smith, and
- 0:17Speaker 1: it is a hunter's wonderland out there right now. Hunters
- 0:20Speaker 1: are mark around the country how cold weather and winter
- 0:23Speaker 1: storms can help them to kill big bucks. This is
- 0:37Speaker 1: rut Fresh Radio podcast brought to you by Vortex Optics.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm Tyler Jones, one of your hosts. The other host,
- 0:44Speaker 1: Casey Smith, that you've already heard from, is hanging out
- 0:47Speaker 1: with me. We're in the upstairs. We're looking out the
- 0:49Speaker 1: window or trying to find a late season buck. How
- 0:54Speaker 1: do we do that better? Ask your camera guys, because
- 0:57Speaker 1: they know way better than us. And they had a
- 0:59Speaker 1: good week and didn't they day? Man, we had a
- 1:01Speaker 1: great day on Texas Public recently. Um. Actually, we will
- 1:06Speaker 1: be talking about this on our podcast in the very
- 1:09Speaker 1: near future, maybe out and depending on when you listen
- 1:12Speaker 1: to this, and we'll be releasing videos from that day.
- 1:16Speaker 1: We had an epic epic day on Texas Public and uh,
- 1:20Speaker 1: all the camera guys got to shoot at some bucks
- 1:22Speaker 1: they did. Man, it uh it was kind of wild
- 1:26Speaker 1: uh and humbling in a way. Not that these guys
- 1:28Speaker 1: aren't good hunters, but um, you and I kind of
- 1:32Speaker 1: the brain children the o g s of the Elements
- 1:36Speaker 1: didn't really have good hunts. But the other guys out
- 1:39Speaker 1: their heads some pretty memorable hunts. I would say, one
- 1:43Speaker 1: dare I say one person shot their first buck? Ever,
- 1:47Speaker 1: how cool is that? That is pretty cool. I'm pretty
- 1:50Speaker 1: stoked about that. Man, Go ahead and chocoling up to
- 1:52Speaker 1: hunter recruitment for the Element. You know, dude, let's go. Yeah,
- 1:56Speaker 1: this is field to table what its finest? You know
- 1:58Speaker 1: what I mean, Like, we're just make things happen. So, dude,
- 2:02Speaker 1: let me tell you something. Along with your first buck
- 2:04Speaker 1: comes your first field dressing experience. That's something that I
- 2:09Speaker 1: wish the tubes of you would let us explain a
- 2:13Speaker 1: little bit better. I know, man, if y'all don't know this,
- 2:16Speaker 1: um YouTube is pretty hard on butchery, especially of wild game.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You can take a hog like I mean, like a
- 2:24Speaker 1: pink pig. But you start cutting up a wild hog
- 2:29Speaker 1: in the field or a deer, and it's gonna get
- 2:31Speaker 1: flagged for sure and taken down. So there's like it's
- 2:33Speaker 1: a really it's impeding to um, you know, new hunters
- 2:38Speaker 1: because you can't get the media out. It's weird though,
- 2:41Speaker 1: it's it depends on who you are and when you
- 2:43Speaker 1: put it out and everything else. Because I believe Mr
- 2:47Speaker 1: Steve has a video on field dressing a deer or
- 2:50Speaker 1: something that does pretty well on the Mediator channel. If
- 2:53Speaker 1: you are a new hunter and you're interested in that,
- 2:55Speaker 1: you can check that out on their YouTube. I believe
- 2:57Speaker 1: it is there. Don't quote me, but I'm like ninety
- 3:00Speaker 1: percent sure that's there. Yeah. So, but yes, there was
- 3:03Speaker 1: some learning, some fun verbiage that we got to use
- 3:07Speaker 1: during that field dressing experience for Eric to help him
- 3:11Speaker 1: to understand what he should cut and what he shouldn't cut,
- 3:14Speaker 1: where he should poke and all that. And what was
- 3:16Speaker 1: awesome is that he didn't have a sharp knife. We
- 3:19Speaker 1: had a sharp n actually, so uh it was it
- 3:23Speaker 1: made things tougher. Make sure you have a sharp knife,
- 3:24Speaker 1: just be careful with it. I uh. I tried to
- 3:26Speaker 1: give you one of those replaceable blade knoves earlier in
- 3:29Speaker 1: the in the year, and he turned it down. You
- 3:32Speaker 1: remember that everybody likes the thought of sharpening a knife.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That you realize you can't really sharpen a knife that will. Yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 1: and then oh this makes like um okay, I just
- 3:40Speaker 1: kinda go ahead and use this replaceably. He uh. He
- 3:43Speaker 1: re upped on that offer the other day when we're
- 3:46Speaker 1: at my house, you in the skin and yeah, I
- 3:49Speaker 1: was like, hey, I still got that. I was there
- 3:50Speaker 1: was like, oh, yeah, where's it at. Sure enough, I'll
- 3:53Speaker 1: give it a try. This is the way he got.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So we've had we had a we had a good time.
- 3:58Speaker 1: You know. One one thing that's fun about hunting the
- 4:02Speaker 1: South is that your rut tends to extend, extend quite
- 4:05Speaker 1: a bit, and so like you have this opportunity to
- 4:08Speaker 1: get in on some rut action um outside of that
- 4:12Speaker 1: normal early November rut window. And so these these Midwestern
- 4:16Speaker 1: states that we've been interviewing a lot this year that
- 4:19Speaker 1: have gotten a lot of airplay almost Rout Fresh podcast,
- 4:22Speaker 1: a lot of them are really like they they almost
- 4:25Speaker 1: have like bleak outlook on this late season stuff sometimes
- 4:28Speaker 1: because it's so just shut down the deer. That's such
- 4:31Speaker 1: a hard, intense rut. The antlers are broken, the bucks
- 4:35Speaker 1: are you know, dying in the cold from being run down,
- 4:38Speaker 1: the indoor shot during the rut, there's no rut action.
- 4:41Speaker 1: You know, if it's not brutal cold, you can't get
- 4:43Speaker 1: them out in the in the daylight sometimes. And so
- 4:46Speaker 1: the thing about the South is that you know, not
- 4:49Speaker 1: only is the rutt not in a super intense window,
- 4:52Speaker 1: you know, quite as bad. But you've got um deer
- 4:55Speaker 1: that were born, like you know, the cycle happens where
- 4:58Speaker 1: like we've seen deer with spat it's in October. And
- 5:01Speaker 1: I mean, like like the Legit funds, Greg and I
- 5:04Speaker 1: saw one from the tree that I could still barely
- 5:08Speaker 1: see the outline of spot. This thing might a way
- 5:11Speaker 1: thirty pounds. It was the tiniest. And if we have
- 5:14Speaker 1: if we have another big snow, this thing's toast you know,
- 5:17Speaker 1: like it's too small to make it. And guess what
- 5:20Speaker 1: that deer is six months old and like February, and
- 5:24Speaker 1: guess what's gonna happen. It's coming to astress. Yeah. And
- 5:27Speaker 1: so like we have trailcaring pictures of giant deer on
- 5:30Speaker 1: public in Texas, uh, chasing those rounds. Oh and in
- 5:33Speaker 1: February their hawks will be dark as coffee grounds. Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And so it's it's cool, it's it's not like something
- 5:40Speaker 1: you can go out and just bank on. You also
- 5:42Speaker 1: can't kill him that time of year either. Well yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 1: so I'm saying outside of the normal rut, you can't
- 5:47Speaker 1: go and just bank on like the fact you're gonna
- 5:49Speaker 1: find the rut fest. But we have, in fact found
- 5:53Speaker 1: some rut fests recently on Texas pub And when you
- 5:56Speaker 1: find that it's time to get you and your buddies
- 5:58Speaker 1: in that area and set up the wall like they
- 6:01Speaker 1: do on a kick off. It's kind of weird, but
- 6:03Speaker 1: it does seem to work. I mean the other day
- 6:05Speaker 1: we had some success and nobody killed, but we were
- 6:07Speaker 1: all on them. I mean, if we want to shoot
- 6:09Speaker 1: some running shots, you might could. I could shot the
- 6:12Speaker 1: biggest year we've probably seen on Texas public, um, if
- 6:15Speaker 1: I want to shoot a twenty five yard running shot,
- 6:17Speaker 1: which I don't want to do. So it was wild
- 6:20Speaker 1: man and a good time, and but we really saw
- 6:23Speaker 1: it like just in a matter of days kind of
- 6:26Speaker 1: dwindled down. But the interesting thing about the Southern you know,
- 6:30Speaker 1: trickle rut at the back end like it does, like
- 6:32Speaker 1: I don't think that there's many does coming in. We
- 6:35Speaker 1: talked about the Bell Curve I don't think it's um
- 6:38Speaker 1: perfectly parabolic, you know what I mean. I think that's
- 6:40Speaker 1: blow down a little bit more, you know what I mean.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I don't think that October sixteenth has near as many
- 6:46Speaker 1: does coming in as like say December one. You know,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I think that the throughout from about in the south
- 6:54Speaker 1: throughout about the second week of November until the new year,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you're gonna have does coming in. And I think that um,
- 7:01Speaker 1: that keeps bucks at least there's some stuff. But just
- 7:06Speaker 1: in general, if you get out of the standardized upper
- 7:10Speaker 1: Midwest rut cycle, you know, um, you'll have even pretty
- 7:14Speaker 1: far north, you still see some of the stuff. But
- 7:16Speaker 1: what I'm getting at is that you'll have deer that um,
- 7:21Speaker 1: since they aren't at the highest level of height when
- 7:24Speaker 1: it comes to routtness, it's word um, they still have
- 7:29Speaker 1: to do the bodily functions. When you add the word
- 7:31Speaker 1: nest to things, it's good. Um. The so they'll eat,
- 7:37Speaker 1: they'll drink, they're bad to do all the stuff, but
- 7:39Speaker 1: they're always still kind of in the mode. So like
- 7:42Speaker 1: when you see those, it gets you excited. Whenever you're
- 7:45Speaker 1: hunting around scrapes or other deer sign, it gets you
- 7:49Speaker 1: kind of excited because I mean, they'll be deer in
- 7:52Speaker 1: the south hitting scrapes until all the deer seasons are
- 7:54Speaker 1: over from here on out. It's never a bad time
- 7:56Speaker 1: to be around one. It's also not a bad time
- 7:58Speaker 1: to be around foods horses because there's less acrons in
- 8:02Speaker 1: the woods. Acorns um for y'all out there. And um,
- 8:07Speaker 1: also that means the US. Uh. That means that those
- 8:13Speaker 1: deer either on an egg or if UNI feed state,
- 8:16Speaker 1: they're on the feed. And we actually in this episode
- 8:19Speaker 1: a couple of guys make use of feed and it's
- 8:21Speaker 1: interesting to hear, but um, it's not the uh, huge
- 8:25Speaker 1: pile of bait um type thing. A lot of these
- 8:28Speaker 1: guys who are having success using feed are doing it sparingly,
- 8:34Speaker 1: but in just the right amounts to kind of hold
- 8:37Speaker 1: deer or just slow them down or make them stage
- 8:39Speaker 1: in certain spots. I think there is a pretty good
- 8:41Speaker 1: tactic behind hunting bait. It's not just shooting pinned deer,
- 8:46Speaker 1: you know, Like, it's a lot different than that. I
- 8:48Speaker 1: don't even care, Like to me, it's just so it's
- 8:51Speaker 1: such a dumb thing to fight over. It's warning, there's
- 8:54Speaker 1: there's just there's laws, and there's bag limits that take
- 8:57Speaker 1: care of this thing. And if they need to be
- 8:58Speaker 1: a just because people are so effective, than adjust them.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You know, let it don't let us kill two deer
- 9:03Speaker 1: two bucks in one season, which we can't in our
- 9:06Speaker 1: county anyway. So you know that's it's like, it's just
- 9:10Speaker 1: not a deal to me. It's like they're good and
- 9:12Speaker 1: bad things that come with everything. Man, the world's a
- 9:14Speaker 1: little bit uh on the way down, if you know
- 9:17Speaker 1: what I mean. So, um, you know, you could you
- 9:20Speaker 1: could say that uh uh human water tower is a
- 9:24Speaker 1: good thing because we can all have clean fresh water,
- 9:27Speaker 1: but then are they putting chlorine and all kinds of
- 9:29Speaker 1: stuff in this Yeah, so look yeah, I mean, and
- 9:33Speaker 1: so you know that's like a human bait pile. You know,
- 9:38Speaker 1: it's like a human uh water water feature property. You know,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I'm just saying, you know, like we can we could
- 9:46Speaker 1: fight over things all day. Um, but whether you have
- 9:50Speaker 1: whether you leaves standing corn in the back of a
- 9:51Speaker 1: cornfield or you just go ahead and put you a
- 9:54Speaker 1: bunch of standing corn uh falling calling corn on the
- 9:58Speaker 1: ground back in there, then you know it's whatever. Just
- 10:00Speaker 1: don't alphabe as we hear and here. You know, there's
- 10:03Speaker 1: a lot of different ways to sure to cut this.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But since I mean there's all kinds of human interaction,
- 10:09Speaker 1: like what if you I mean, do you get to
- 10:11Speaker 1: say that rattling is okay? If you're introducing this fake
- 10:14Speaker 1: rattling horns, you're deceiving the deer and the deer. Yeah, hey,
- 10:18Speaker 1: we're out there to shoot some deer and eat them.
- 10:20Speaker 1: That's what that's what it's about to my wife. My
- 10:23Speaker 1: wife has text me right now which meat to get
- 10:25Speaker 1: out of the freezer. Yeah, you can't find the elk though,
- 10:28Speaker 1: can't you? Down too long ago? So? Uh, speaking of success,
- 10:34Speaker 1: we talked to some guys who have been having some
- 10:36Speaker 1: success on the podcast today Tyler, who are we talking
- 10:39Speaker 1: to this week? Man? We got uh, we got some
- 10:43Speaker 1: new New States involved here and like we said earlier,
- 10:45Speaker 1: their Midwest guys. Uh. When we reached out to them
- 10:49Speaker 1: and they're just so sad that the rud is over.
- 10:52Speaker 1: We had to talk to some different They gave us
- 10:53Speaker 1: some zeros, so we had to you know, you can't
- 10:55Speaker 1: be having zeros on the book, that's right. So we
- 10:58Speaker 1: we got Gary Greenwall on the on the phone, and
- 11:00Speaker 1: he's an old friend ours from Washington State killed a
- 11:03Speaker 1: nice buck up there. Um Grant Forney, who you guys
- 11:06Speaker 1: have heard from already the season Pennsylvania, which is a
- 11:09Speaker 1: cool state man, lots of different very habitat there. Grants
- 11:13Speaker 1: is talking about mountain country. Um. Another Mountain countryman, Chris
- 11:17Speaker 1: b was in Oklahoma and killing mountain bucks in Oklahoma.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So we're pretty uh, pretty pretty cool report from there.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And it also our friend Justin Henry from Florida gets
- 11:28Speaker 1: to talk about them swampy Everglades nasties down there in
- 11:32Speaker 1: Florida and there they're just that. You call them swamp
- 11:35Speaker 1: monsters in some parts of the country, but they're not
- 11:38Speaker 1: monsters in Florida. They're just swamp something. Well, I think
- 11:41Speaker 1: it's monsters more of like the UHC, you know, the
- 11:46Speaker 1: connotation of the word. So like it's like, yeah, they're
- 11:49Speaker 1: like scary. What's what's the term for a monster? I'm
- 11:53Speaker 1: thinking I'm blanking on it. Um. We had a guy
- 11:56Speaker 1: on our podcast one time that talked about like a
- 11:59Speaker 1: big foots and stuff. Oh encrypted, yes, crypt yeah or
- 12:04Speaker 1: whatever it is. Yeah, crypto zoology, cryptid as well, So
- 12:07Speaker 1: that's that's what they're talking about. Cryptids are yeah, kind
- 12:11Speaker 1: of supposed fake animals, which, um, funny enough, m Florida
- 12:16Speaker 1: and Texas monster deer might be cryptids, but there's some
- 12:23Speaker 1: good ones man. And I don't know, I like talking
- 12:25Speaker 1: to people who hunt in unique areas. Um, you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: Justin has some pretty good hunts down there in Florida,
- 12:31Speaker 1: which you know, you can't even look at Florida on
- 12:33Speaker 1: the map and be like, oh, I want to go
- 12:34Speaker 1: hunt there. But you know, people make it work and
- 12:37Speaker 1: it's all relative, right, if you're getting out and deer
- 12:39Speaker 1: hunting and having fun doing what you're doing, Um, doesn't
- 12:42Speaker 1: matter if it's zero degrees or seventy in human you know,
- 12:45Speaker 1: you're still hunting white and there s makes some neat man.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It is, man, it really is. They're so diverse, right,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and it's it's it's kind of one of those things
- 12:52Speaker 1: where like I when we were out hunting on Texas
- 12:54Speaker 1: Public this weekend, both of us had this weird thing
- 12:57Speaker 1: where like we have struggled so much on some of
- 13:00Speaker 1: these properties around kind of around home or whatever, and
- 13:03Speaker 1: it was but it was like while we're out there,
- 13:05Speaker 1: we're like, man, this is this is like I've missed
- 13:09Speaker 1: this a little bit it's weird, like there's no place
- 13:12Speaker 1: like home, like they say, you know, and that's kind
- 13:13Speaker 1: of one of those things, is like you you you
- 13:16Speaker 1: hunt in Florida because you live in Florida, and that's
- 13:18Speaker 1: just what you make the best out of what you got,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you know. And like I said earlier, we're out there
- 13:23Speaker 1: to eat these things, you know what I mean in
- 13:25Speaker 1: the end. So it's fun to go hunting them elsewhere,
- 13:28Speaker 1: whether big sometimes too, but like, yeah, you know that. Uh.
- 13:32Speaker 1: We talked to a guy who State touches the Pacific Ocean.
- 13:35Speaker 1: We talked to a guy who State touches the Gulf
- 13:37Speaker 1: of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, and they're all hunting
- 13:39Speaker 1: white till Yeah. Next time, we gotta get some many
- 13:42Speaker 1: touches the Panama Canal one of these days. Yeah, well,
- 13:49Speaker 1: let's hear from these guys and get the report. All right,
- 13:53Speaker 1: all right, I've got Gary Greenwalt here. He hunts up
- 13:55Speaker 1: in the Washington State. Uh, one place that we have
- 13:59Speaker 1: not had on the fresh stuff yet. So we're excited
- 14:02Speaker 1: to get the report. Gary. You've had some success recently, right,
- 14:05Speaker 1: I did, yep, scoring on I think it was the
- 14:08Speaker 1: second So the second okay, okay, come down from Alaska
- 14:12Speaker 1: since I moved up there first time in four years
- 14:15Speaker 1: and things just kind of panned out right with conditions,
- 14:17Speaker 1: So it's awesome. So yeah, you you have a very
- 14:22Speaker 1: methodical approach to it, and it has to do with weather,
- 14:25Speaker 1: weather conditions, right, Can you talk about that a little bit? Yeah, well,
- 14:27Speaker 1: what what weather? In time of year? It's like, you know,
- 14:30Speaker 1: everybody wants to hunt the rut. But I'll take the
- 14:32Speaker 1: first week in December and some nice cold weather and snow,
- 14:36Speaker 1: um anytime from about December one December seven, and if
- 14:40Speaker 1: I get the weather conditions right, I can pretty much
- 14:42Speaker 1: guarantee I'll kill it here. And that's been I've got
- 14:45Speaker 1: a wall fold show for it. Yeah, I know you do.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And that's a that's based off of like a heavy
- 14:52Speaker 1: feed pattern, right, Yeah, it's it's post rout feed is
- 14:55Speaker 1: what you're really really banking on. And then there's some
- 14:58Speaker 1: second rud activities. Well, so though those two things wrapped up,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you know, those bucks are coming around to feed, they're
- 15:05Speaker 1: coming around checking for those last few does coming back
- 15:07Speaker 1: into heat. Okay, so so you are seeing a little
- 15:10Speaker 1: bit of cruising steel I guess, or yeah, the buck
- 15:14Speaker 1: that I actually killed. I had actually done a little
- 15:16Speaker 1: bleat and grunt sequence about five minutes before, and he
- 15:19Speaker 1: came in looking, wow, man, that's cool. So well that
- 15:21Speaker 1: well that hang around for a while or is that
- 15:23Speaker 1: something that uh, the second rut stuff will taper off
- 15:27Speaker 1: pretty quick, but the feed patern will stick now through January?
- 15:31Speaker 1: Really does it get does the does the feed pattern
- 15:34Speaker 1: get more intense going forward? Like is it is it
- 15:37Speaker 1: something that with more and more snow it gets more
- 15:39Speaker 1: intense or is it just like pretty much like constant.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah it will, Yeah, I definitely will. So, I mean
- 15:45Speaker 1: it'll be largely weather dependent than you know, the more
- 15:47Speaker 1: snow we get, the colder it gets, the more intense
- 15:51Speaker 1: that feeding will get. Those those deer it almost seems like,
- 15:55Speaker 1: I don't know if I want to call it, they
- 15:57Speaker 1: compete for the food, but but it gets to a
- 15:59Speaker 1: point where the day movement on a lot of the
- 16:01Speaker 1: older bucks almost come in first to get to the
- 16:04Speaker 1: feed before for the dose young. So we're talking about
- 16:08Speaker 1: feed here. I'm not familiar with the legalities in Washington.
- 16:11Speaker 1: You're talking about baiting stations or is it an agricultural
- 16:14Speaker 1: food source? Well, so we we use. I use bait
- 16:17Speaker 1: um that they changed our laws quite a bit where
- 16:20Speaker 1: we're limited on the amount you can use. So really
- 16:22Speaker 1: now about half bail Health South is about as much
- 16:24Speaker 1: as we can use. But gender that's all it takes.
- 16:27Speaker 1: And I generally set these things up in transition zones
- 16:30Speaker 1: where they're moving out the tag fields UM where they'll
- 16:33Speaker 1: get the rest of their feeds. So they're there areas
- 16:35Speaker 1: you had hunt anyways, and the bait just kind of
- 16:38Speaker 1: sweetens this pot up a little bit. Yeah, it makes sense.
- 16:41Speaker 1: That's kind of like that Canada top hunting where you
- 16:43Speaker 1: just put out a hay bale in the snow and
- 16:45Speaker 1: the big bucks coming. Yeah, that's cool. So what's the
- 16:48Speaker 1: major egg feed source that those two are moving to
- 16:51Speaker 1: UM right now? Probably winter weets the biggest one UM.
- 16:54Speaker 1: And then there there's stubble fields and stuff and volunteer
- 16:58Speaker 1: wheat that will come up underneath an old spill green
- 17:00Speaker 1: piles they can find every once in a while UM.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And then there's just a lot of natural brows too.
- 17:05Speaker 1: At this time of year, are you doing any morning hunts?
- 17:08Speaker 1: Are you shifting in specifically? I don't that that's one
- 17:11Speaker 1: thing kind of baffles guys and even my outfit guys
- 17:14Speaker 1: like why we're going out first things that you're spook
- 17:16Speaker 1: all the dyer. It's like I generally get in the
- 17:18Speaker 1: stand about nine o'clock. Yeah, well it's also freezing cold,
- 17:21Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's a good one good
- 17:23Speaker 1: time to sit there and drinks off here. It's it's hard.
- 17:26Speaker 1: The all day sits are hard, and in tests you
- 17:28Speaker 1: when you start off be in the dark. But I
- 17:30Speaker 1: mean I've done that before. Um, I just never really
- 17:33Speaker 1: seen it pan pan out that much. So but I
- 17:36Speaker 1: just kind of went away from it. And you know,
- 17:38Speaker 1: I've shot here at ten in the morning and right
- 17:40Speaker 1: to the last light, but I've never shot one I
- 17:42Speaker 1: think much earlier and ten in the morning when I'm
- 17:44Speaker 1: bow hunt. So so you are getting there in the morning,
- 17:47Speaker 1: just not at day yeah, just not just not you know,
- 17:50Speaker 1: before light. Yeah, what's the strategy as far as uh
- 17:54Speaker 1: sticking it out throughout the day? You're bringing hot food
- 17:56Speaker 1: with you or how do you make yourself staying there?
- 17:58Speaker 1: I actually don't. I don't eat or drink on stand
- 18:01Speaker 1: because I generally don't want to make the noise. Um.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I generally have heat packs underneath the good gear, um,
- 18:09Speaker 1: and that that's in good boots. Just write it out.
- 18:11Speaker 1: So man, a lot of pizza when you get home. Yeah,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I believe me. I eat a lot and get back.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That's awesome. So uh one last question about this whole process, like,
- 18:24Speaker 1: how are you what are you assuming is betting in
- 18:27Speaker 1: that area? How do you find betting? And to make
- 18:28Speaker 1: that assumption that here's betting, here's the destination. So I'm
- 18:31Speaker 1: gonna put alfalfa in between. Um, basically, thirty thirty plus
- 18:36Speaker 1: years of hunting out here, I know what what for
- 18:38Speaker 1: where they're at generally speaking this time of year, in
- 18:42Speaker 1: this type of train, I'd be looking for brushy south slopes,
- 18:46Speaker 1: places where they can get some sunlight and find some
- 18:48Speaker 1: thermal cover if they need it when the weather hits. Um.
- 18:52Speaker 1: So it's like I said, a lot of it's just
- 18:54Speaker 1: experience out here, but I could replicate the results in
- 18:57Speaker 1: other areas knowing what I'm perfect cool. So uh, I
- 19:01Speaker 1: hear that you guys got some fresh snow. With that
- 19:03Speaker 1: in mind and whatever else you got coming up, how
- 19:07Speaker 1: do you feel in the next next week about you know,
- 19:11Speaker 1: buck movement. If you were to rate it on a
- 19:12Speaker 1: scale of one to ten. What would you rank man?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Yesterday it was at ten when I was l hunting. Um,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I think it's probably gonna keep on about like that.
- 19:21Speaker 1: It's gonna get I don't really see it tapering off
- 19:24Speaker 1: with this weather. Um. So the guys here in Washington,
- 19:27Speaker 1: I think they got till the fifteenth kill a deer.
- 19:29Speaker 1: It should be good the rest of the way through season.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And I think Idaho opens up on the tenth and
- 19:34Speaker 1: those guys, you know, they can't do the feeding that
- 19:37Speaker 1: we can do, but you know, if they got a
- 19:39Speaker 1: good food source, that should be good for him to
- 19:41Speaker 1: just stick with it and and see decent movement that
- 19:44Speaker 1: this weather is a huge help for that. So okay,
- 19:48Speaker 1: well cool man, Well thanks for giving us a report
- 19:49Speaker 1: and we appreciate it. And uh, well we'll be talking
- 19:52Speaker 1: to you seeing man. You know what, actually you never
- 19:54Speaker 1: gave us a number. Oh, I'd rate it to nine,
- 19:58Speaker 1: all right, dude, yeah, ten yesterday, nine today or next week.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I think people should get out there and get after
- 20:04Speaker 1: if they're in Washington state. So again, thanks for doing
- 20:07Speaker 1: this thing, man, and we'll be talking to he's saying,
- 20:09Speaker 1: I'm sure say man, all right, now I've got Cris
- 20:15Speaker 1: be on the line here. We're talking about Oklahoma. You
- 20:18Speaker 1: had some success there recently. What's going on, Chris? What's up, guys?
- 20:22Speaker 1: Thanks for having me on. Yeah, dude, for sure, man,
- 20:25Speaker 1: I mean, pretty reliable guy, you know, so you can
- 20:29Speaker 1: rely on you to be hunting deer, you know, at least.
- 20:31Speaker 1: So Yeah, it seems like it's slowing down, is slowing down.
- 20:35Speaker 1: But yeah, this last week in Oklahoma early December, never
- 20:39Speaker 1: really done it before, actually jumped on a lease with
- 20:42Speaker 1: a couple of buddies from Unguided Outdoors and it was
- 20:47Speaker 1: it was pretty weird. It really high deer numbers. We're
- 20:51Speaker 1: kind of in the hill country southeast Oklahoma, and there
- 20:55Speaker 1: is an incredible amount of doughs, like a very unhealthy
- 20:59Speaker 1: amount of dough was. Um. So, with that said, like
- 21:02Speaker 1: the buck that I shot, he was actually still out
- 21:05Speaker 1: like searching, like he I saw him like two yards
- 21:08Speaker 1: just running like just looking, you know, and I just
- 21:11Speaker 1: grunted at him and he whipped his head and just
- 21:13Speaker 1: came right in. Um So, they I really think that
- 21:18Speaker 1: they were still running that hard that late because the
- 21:20Speaker 1: amount of doze, you know, they're trying to breed all
- 21:22Speaker 1: of them. Um And That's why it's like a big
- 21:25Speaker 1: effort for like our crew to just try to get
- 21:28Speaker 1: those dough numbers down because it's making the bucks really
- 21:31Speaker 1: unhealthy just running and competing for food and all that.
- 21:34Speaker 1: But yeah, they were still they were still chasing for sure,
- 21:39Speaker 1: was wasting some of that down in this area. To um,
- 21:43Speaker 1: how big was the body size that buck you shot?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Not very big? I mean we were guessing him at
- 21:48Speaker 1: four UM and he was drawning, i mean, bony and
- 21:53Speaker 1: just really run down. And one of the other guys
- 21:55Speaker 1: actually saw him in October and then you know, I
- 21:59Speaker 1: showed him the video and totally he's like, wow, he's
- 22:01Speaker 1: like that deude got small. Yeah, those mountain bucks, like
- 22:06Speaker 1: they're they're just the southeast Oklahoma mountain bucks are just
- 22:09Speaker 1: kind of like it's crazy how small they actually are
- 22:12Speaker 1: sometimes you you know, they just southern climate and running
- 22:16Speaker 1: and running up and down those hills, they just get rangy,
- 22:19Speaker 1: you know. So it's pretty cool. They that's like Postoke country, right,
- 22:23Speaker 1: there's a bunch of Postoke achorns on the ground or not,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I think. So, Yeah, I'm not super familiar with with
- 22:29Speaker 1: Oklahoma in general, but yeah, they're like super short, maybe
- 22:31Speaker 1: thirty ft tall tall. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So are you
- 22:38Speaker 1: running cameras in a place like that, you know, like
- 22:40Speaker 1: at least like that and kind of turning Target Bucks
- 22:42Speaker 1: and doing that or was this kind of a surprise
- 22:44Speaker 1: deal for you? This was kind of a surprise deal
- 22:46Speaker 1: for me just because this is my first year. But
- 22:48Speaker 1: the other guys, I mean, we're trying this place. We're
- 22:51Speaker 1: really trying to make something. You know, we're all kind
- 22:54Speaker 1: of new on it. But yeah, we'd love to be
- 22:57Speaker 1: running cameras and do more of a management and it's
- 22:59Speaker 1: a big enough piece to do that. Um And either
- 23:03Speaker 1: the biggest thing for us right now and that make
- 23:05Speaker 1: it better is shooting a lot of toes. I mean,
- 23:09Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's ridiculous. How many does are I've
- 23:12Speaker 1: never seen a place like it. Is there a tactic
- 23:15Speaker 1: to what time of year it's good to shoot those?
- 23:17Speaker 1: In your opinion? I've heard it both ways, you know,
- 23:22Speaker 1: like shoot him early so that, um, you you are
- 23:25Speaker 1: getting rid of the competition for food and for rut
- 23:30Speaker 1: um like before the rut And then I've heard, you know,
- 23:32Speaker 1: shoot them late so that you're not messing up you're
- 23:35Speaker 1: hunting and everything during the right. So I like to
- 23:38Speaker 1: play a place like this. It's definitely easier to shoot
- 23:41Speaker 1: them later, I think, just as a conveniencing. But we've
- 23:44Speaker 1: been all the guys we've been shooting, like obviously, I've
- 23:47Speaker 1: only been down there once and I actually shot four
- 23:50Speaker 1: like in one morning, Like it was ridiculous, And but
- 23:54Speaker 1: all the guys have been shooting them all year long.
- 23:56Speaker 1: But that tagged out bro. Yeah. No, I was in
- 23:59Speaker 1: the tree for an hour, a nice shop five year.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Oh what's the buck? The fifth? Dear? You shot four? Four? Yeah? Shot?
- 24:08Speaker 1: I shot him, and then another dog came and I'm like,
- 24:10Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I need to get how many quivers
- 24:12Speaker 1: does your bo hold? Man? It was five arrel quiver? Yeah,
- 24:15Speaker 1: I was done. There're another buck box watching them. Oh dude,
- 24:22Speaker 1: that's wild man, that's fun. Well, so you know, I
- 24:26Speaker 1: guess you guys are still hunting kind of the rut
- 24:29Speaker 1: up there. Uh now when we look forward to next week,
- 24:33Speaker 1: are you still would you still be kind of like
- 24:35Speaker 1: which I don't know you may uh, you know, you're
- 24:38Speaker 1: obviously not gonna be there with the shooting five arrows
- 24:40Speaker 1: on one one uh sitting but like can't like if
- 24:44Speaker 1: you were going to be there, would you still be
- 24:46Speaker 1: focusing on rut action funnels, pinch points those kind of
- 24:49Speaker 1: things maybe like saddles on in that mountain country or
- 24:52Speaker 1: are you looking at food sources coming up? Yeah, so
- 24:55Speaker 1: they're definitely gonna be switching the food this next week.
- 24:58Speaker 1: And I think I hit like the last little bit
- 25:01Speaker 1: of running, you know, running around, and and Bucks were
- 25:04Speaker 1: still being um, those are the few days if they're
- 25:08Speaker 1: really switching over. I think you know, Bucks were on food.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Bucks were still mingling with those and not having to
- 25:14Speaker 1: bump them, um, you know, being more cordial and stuff.
- 25:17Speaker 1: So yeah, I definitely think switching the food. Corn is
- 25:22Speaker 1: king in that country too. I know, it's like Texas.
- 25:25Speaker 1: That's a thing man, for sure. Cattle. If you look forward,
- 25:28Speaker 1: the cattle were driving me nuts. We'd we'd have to
- 25:31Speaker 1: like just broadcast a little bit out. And it's like
- 25:34Speaker 1: the thing that's down there too. We're still hunting in
- 25:36Speaker 1: good areas, good normal movement deer areas, and then we
- 25:39Speaker 1: just kind of like throw a little bit out because
- 25:41Speaker 1: you can, um and then to keep some those around
- 25:43Speaker 1: or whatever. But yeah, yeah, well if you look forward
- 25:47Speaker 1: to the next week here, if you had to rate
- 25:48Speaker 1: it on a scale of winded tea and what would
- 25:50Speaker 1: you rate buck movement going forward? If you've got a
- 25:54Speaker 1: good cold front, it's gonna be really good. It's it
- 25:57Speaker 1: switches again. I think the weather dependency. Yeah, yeah, cool man. Well,
- 26:03Speaker 1: sounds like some fun times there to be had still
- 26:06Speaker 1: with the with some cold frinds coming through and the
- 26:08Speaker 1: I'm switching to food. I think that's kind of the
- 26:11Speaker 1: game of late season. So, um, congrats on all the success, man.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I wish you, uh, you know, things well in the
- 26:18Speaker 1: in the future with your travels and everything else. Dude,
- 26:21Speaker 1: and we'll be talking. I appreciate you hopping on with
- 26:23Speaker 1: us on the phone. We've got Grant Forney from the
- 26:40Speaker 1: Everyday Outdoors when he's been up in p A doing
- 26:43Speaker 1: some hunting. Grant, what's happening due, I'm much just uh
- 26:47Speaker 1: staying busy here with hunting season. Awesome time of the year,
- 26:50Speaker 1: so looking forward to the next time I can get
- 26:52Speaker 1: out here. Thanks for having me. You're welcome, dude. How
- 26:55Speaker 1: much hunting do you get to do? I know you
- 26:57Speaker 1: you uh, you work hard and you hunt hard, so
- 27:00Speaker 1: how does that work out for you? Yeah? It's um,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I get out a pretty good amount. UM. Usually try
- 27:06Speaker 1: to get out at least one week night plus the
- 27:09Speaker 1: weekends and plus about two weeks of vacation time a
- 27:15Speaker 1: year for hunting. So you know, the past couple of years,
- 27:18Speaker 1: I probably average probably average around like forty forty days
- 27:24Speaker 1: a year I'm making out, which is, you know, pretty
- 27:27Speaker 1: good for my situation. So yeah, that's awesome. Man. Now
- 27:32Speaker 1: the long season helps with that too. I can I
- 27:34Speaker 1: can hunt um all the way through the end of January,
- 27:37Speaker 1: so that a little bit. So when you're when you're
- 27:42Speaker 1: thinking about p A, when what time of year is
- 27:45Speaker 1: your favorite? Are we coming up like you locked this
- 27:47Speaker 1: late season stuff that we're looking at here, it can
- 27:50Speaker 1: be good. Um. Ideally i'd like to have my buck
- 27:54Speaker 1: tag build by now and p A since we're one
- 27:57Speaker 1: buck eight, But it wasn't fortunate enough to UH to
- 28:00Speaker 1: get a buck this year during our first archery season.
- 28:03Speaker 1: So we're halfway through gun season now and I've still
- 28:05Speaker 1: got my buck tag, which is a bad thing either
- 28:08Speaker 1: because I do like hunting this time of year. Yeah,
- 28:12Speaker 1: PA gets a lot of pressure on the public land
- 28:14Speaker 1: during gun season, but it still can be good hunting. UH.
- 28:19Speaker 1: One of the biggest things this time of year is
- 28:21Speaker 1: like this is this is the best time of year
- 28:25Speaker 1: for hunting the overlooked spots, if you're hunting public land.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I mean, this is when pressure it's at its highest.
- 28:31Speaker 1: And if you if you have a spot on public
- 28:34Speaker 1: land that's overlooked, whether it's a spot that nobody thinks
- 28:38Speaker 1: of close to parking or if it's just so deep
- 28:41Speaker 1: that nobody wants to go to it, like, this is
- 28:43Speaker 1: the time a year where you can do well at
- 28:46Speaker 1: those spots. What's the weather like this time of year?
- 28:49Speaker 1: Typically it's uh, you know, it varies a lot, honestly
- 28:54Speaker 1: right now. Um, like this week we have some days
- 28:58Speaker 1: with highs in the fifties, which is pretty warm, but
- 29:02Speaker 1: a lot of times it'll be like lows will be
- 29:05Speaker 1: in the twenties, highs will be like mid thirties, high thirties. Uh,
- 29:11Speaker 1: those are kind of temperatures we look for right now.
- 29:13Speaker 1: So like this morning was perfect. I wish I could
- 29:15Speaker 1: have been out this morning. So yeah, you help. What's
- 29:19Speaker 1: that Does snow help you or in this time of year? Yeah, yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 1: snow can definitely help. Like when I'm hunting up in
- 29:26Speaker 1: up in the mountains in northern p A. We got
- 29:29Speaker 1: some snow that's good for for tracking and being able
- 29:33Speaker 1: to locate deer this time of year for sure, So
- 29:37Speaker 1: I definitely look for that, you know, look for still
- 29:40Speaker 1: look for those those cold mornings, those cold temps, and
- 29:43Speaker 1: uh trying to find those overlooked spots or just just
- 29:46Speaker 1: areas in general that haven't had pressure during gun season.
- 29:50Speaker 1: You know, if you can combine those two things, you
- 29:52Speaker 1: can still have some really good hunting here during gun season.
- 29:56Speaker 1: How do you what's your best tip or two for
- 30:00Speaker 1: finding if a soft spot. Essentially, if we're a place
- 30:03Speaker 1: where pressure is non existent this time of year, I
- 30:07Speaker 1: would look for places that are just hard to access,
- 30:11Speaker 1: even if they're not far so, like a place where
- 30:13Speaker 1: you might have to cross the creek or you might
- 30:16Speaker 1: have to uh get through some really nasty stuff to
- 30:20Speaker 1: get to the backside of maybe a public peace. Uh
- 30:25Speaker 1: look for really steep terrain. A lot of our mountain
- 30:29Speaker 1: bucks in this state this time of year will well
- 30:32Speaker 1: really head to that steep stuff and people I don't
- 30:35Speaker 1: really want to walk that stuff either, So these are
- 30:38Speaker 1: definitely the things I look for, uh this time of year.
- 30:42Speaker 1: How are you hunting steep terrain. Are you hunting a
- 30:44Speaker 1: trail that's uh, you know, kind of run in parallel
- 30:46Speaker 1: to the to the ridge or or how does that look? Yeah?
- 30:50Speaker 1: Sometimes that sometimes a trail on the top of the
- 30:53Speaker 1: ridge that's running parallel with the ridge or Uh. A
- 30:56Speaker 1: big thing too is looking for benches in that steep terrain,
- 30:59Speaker 1: even it's just a very subtle bench, you know, just
- 31:02Speaker 1: just a very narrow flat spot where those you're gonna
- 31:05Speaker 1: gonna gonna run the side of a steep mountain. Uh.
- 31:08Speaker 1: We key in on those and and have done well
- 31:11Speaker 1: on those, and uh, you know, even even like for
- 31:14Speaker 1: still hunting, like if you're gonna, um have a windy
- 31:18Speaker 1: day or a rainy day where the leaves are wet
- 31:20Speaker 1: and you're gonna cover some ground, try to try to
- 31:23Speaker 1: find a buck if you just walk, you know, the
- 31:27Speaker 1: top of a ridge looking down over the side, Um
- 31:29Speaker 1: sneak along there and uh and try to find a
- 31:33Speaker 1: buck that's bedded down on the side of the hill
- 31:36Speaker 1: before he sees you, you know, or wins you. That's
- 31:38Speaker 1: a good way to to you know, especially during gun
- 31:40Speaker 1: season when when you've got the advantage to be able
- 31:43Speaker 1: to reach out there a little bit more with some
- 31:45Speaker 1: more range. Yeah, man, that's actually pretty exciting. It sounds
- 31:48Speaker 1: like a fun hunt. So as you look forward to
- 31:51Speaker 1: this mid December time period, what do you expect the
- 31:53Speaker 1: bug movement to be? Like, I would say, coming up,
- 31:57Speaker 1: I would give it like a six. Uh with the
- 32:02Speaker 1: opening week of gun season pressure maybe dying off a
- 32:05Speaker 1: little bit. I think it can can almost get better here.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Uh later the gun season. Uh, you know, six still
- 32:12Speaker 1: doesn't sound great, but maybe compared to uh, after after
- 32:17Speaker 1: the first three days a gun season, I would probably
- 32:19Speaker 1: rate the buck movement at only like maybe a two
- 32:21Speaker 1: or three when they're feeling all that pressure. So, you know,
- 32:24Speaker 1: compared to that a six, A six is pretty good
- 32:27Speaker 1: compared to what we were seeing, you know, just a
- 32:30Speaker 1: little bit ago. So I think absolutely, you know, if
- 32:33Speaker 1: anybody it works every time, six, I mean that's awesome.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Grant well, dude, I hope you are able to capitalize
- 32:42Speaker 1: on that still available buck tag. Did you have their
- 32:44Speaker 1: in p A man? I know that. Uh it's kind
- 32:46Speaker 1: of a little bit uh maybe disheartening to still have
- 32:50Speaker 1: a tag this time of year, but that means you
- 32:51Speaker 1: get to hunt, dude, and that's exciting. So I hope
- 32:53Speaker 1: you hope you can find a good one. Yeah. Well,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I really appreciate it, guys. Yeah, I hope so too.
- 32:58Speaker 1: But like you said, hey, it's never a bad thing
- 33:00Speaker 1: to still be able to be out there hunting. So
- 33:02Speaker 1: gonna give it my best try here. Uh this last
- 33:06Speaker 1: week a gun season and then in the late archery season. Awesome, man, Well, thanks,
- 33:10Speaker 1: I appreciate the the info. Dude. Yeah, hey, thanks a lot. Guys,
- 33:14Speaker 1: really appreciate it. I have got Justin Henry here. He
- 33:18Speaker 1: is a hunter in Florida. Man, you've been uh taking
- 33:22Speaker 1: some uh some liberty and going do a little hunting
- 33:24Speaker 1: there in Florida, I believe, right, sir. Yeah, yeah, the
- 33:28Speaker 1: weather has been a little on the warm side, but
- 33:32Speaker 1: still gotta get out when you can. Okay. So that's
- 33:34Speaker 1: relative across the country. Tell me what warm weather is
- 33:37Speaker 1: where you're at there in Florida for deer hunting. Uh,
- 33:40Speaker 1: you know, normally this time of the year, December mornings
- 33:46Speaker 1: usually high fifties, and you know, the highs are usually
- 33:50Speaker 1: about seventy to seventy five, and that's generally what it's been.
- 33:55Speaker 1: And we've had the humidity has been kind of dissipating, y'all.
- 34:00Speaker 1: In Texas. You all know all about that wonderful humidity.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so, uh we're actually looking forward to, um
- 34:08Speaker 1: maybe some cooler weather this week. Possibly, not sure, good man. So, um,
- 34:13Speaker 1: what time of the years, y'alls? Rut where you're at? Uh,
- 34:15Speaker 1: Central Florida where I'm at is typically during our muzzle
- 34:21Speaker 1: d season. So we'll call it mid October. Okay, got you?
- 34:26Speaker 1: So you are on a post rut pattern down there
- 34:28Speaker 1: where you at right now? So what are the what
- 34:29Speaker 1: are the deer doing? Um? Really kind of think with
- 34:33Speaker 1: the with the with the weather. I mean, I know
- 34:35Speaker 1: they're always used to being hot, but it's it's it trickles,
- 34:39Speaker 1: it's spotty. Um. You know, I say our rudd is
- 34:42Speaker 1: is mid October, but it really I mean you could
- 34:46Speaker 1: go across the street and there's pockets that could be
- 34:48Speaker 1: three weeks later or so on and so forth. But UM,
- 34:52Speaker 1: seen a lot of dose on camera. Talked to a
- 34:54Speaker 1: few buddies, UM seem some smaller bucks nothing but sure
- 35:00Speaker 1: has been poking and um A couple of guys did
- 35:03Speaker 1: say the past two days though, that their cameras have
- 35:05Speaker 1: been lighting up with some more mature deer on it.
- 35:09Speaker 1: So I was thinking maybe they might start be start
- 35:11Speaker 1: to daylighting a little more. Mm hm. So I got
- 35:15Speaker 1: two questions here they're in the same vein. One is
- 35:20Speaker 1: what kind of agriculture could these deer be using to
- 35:23Speaker 1: feed on? When I think of post rut, I think
- 35:25Speaker 1: of I think of food, right, And then the second
- 35:27Speaker 1: one would be, well, you know, is there other native
- 35:30Speaker 1: food sources as well that they're they would be keen
- 35:32Speaker 1: on it and post post rout situation right now? So
- 35:35Speaker 1: I went out Monday to hang some cameras and all
- 35:38Speaker 1: I could hear was acorns draining still back into swamp.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I'm still finding acorns all over the ground. Uh. You know,
- 35:45Speaker 1: we had some hurricanes that we were flooded out pretty
- 35:47Speaker 1: bad and a lot of our low lying areas, but
- 35:51Speaker 1: um acorns. I feel like right now we're still keen
- 35:54Speaker 1: if they're if they're in their area and they're dropping,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I feel like acorns are still um okay, is there?
- 36:01Speaker 1: I mean, do think is there any planting that goes
- 36:03Speaker 1: on in the agricultural space that of you know, it's
- 36:06Speaker 1: a food source for deer or is it like sugarcane
- 36:08Speaker 1: or what do you what do you got that that
- 36:09Speaker 1: would be more South Florida. Okay, yeah, the more agg
- 36:13Speaker 1: field type. I wouldn't even call him agg fields, but uh,
- 36:17Speaker 1: the switch grass fields and the salt grass and things
- 36:20Speaker 1: like that. That's kind of what we have patches of
- 36:22Speaker 1: them in central Florida, but that's more South Florida. It's
- 36:25Speaker 1: pretty much just woods or food plots. God, just so
- 36:29Speaker 1: hurricane season pretty much lines up with deer season. How
- 36:32Speaker 1: bad does that affect what you have going on? Do
- 36:34Speaker 1: you think that since y'all did have a storm, they're
- 36:36Speaker 1: kind of late October, does that mean that there's those
- 36:39Speaker 1: that didn't get bread so the rut could be weird
- 36:41Speaker 1: this year? You know, I haven't thought about that, but
- 36:43Speaker 1: I do believe that possibly could be a possibility. I mean,
- 36:46Speaker 1: you're talking to three day a three day occurrence where
- 36:49Speaker 1: we had twenty of water in a twenty four hour period.
- 36:56Speaker 1: So I mean, I'm sure that disturbed. Yeah, I'm sure
- 36:58Speaker 1: it disturbed. Um moved into high ground quick leek um.
- 37:02Speaker 1: So we had that much train last year. That was
- 37:06Speaker 1: the first that was that was that was quite crazy. Actually,
- 37:09Speaker 1: that was one of the worst hurricanes I've been through. Well,
- 37:12Speaker 1: glad you made it. They are I mean, so as
- 37:14Speaker 1: going forward. You know you're looking uh at kind of
- 37:16Speaker 1: this mid December time period. What do you expect the
- 37:19Speaker 1: deer to be doing right now? Um? I would have
- 37:23Speaker 1: to say should start to pick up just a little bit,
- 37:26Speaker 1: just looking at the weather forecast for the future. You know,
- 37:30Speaker 1: the further we creep into December, usually the weather gets
- 37:33Speaker 1: a little bit better. Um, so hopefully they'll uh maybe
- 37:39Speaker 1: creeping in and out, you know, thirty minutes after daylight
- 37:42Speaker 1: thirty minutes before y uh yeah, so that makes sense
- 37:48Speaker 1: for late season pattern. Man, you just gotta try to
- 37:50Speaker 1: find a place where there on their feet in shooting light. Right.
- 37:52Speaker 1: It's kind of hard. So uh last question here. If
- 37:55Speaker 1: you had to rank buck movement for the next week
- 37:58Speaker 1: on a scale of one to team, what would you
- 37:59Speaker 1: think the Bucks will be doing? I might have to
- 38:01Speaker 1: give it a six. Okay, all right, that's a pretty
- 38:05Speaker 1: positive number. I like it six absolute absolutely yeah cool man. Well,
- 38:14Speaker 1: thanks for doing this, dude. Good luck down there, and
- 38:16Speaker 1: since for Florida that's a that's a unique place you
- 38:18Speaker 1: get to hunt, man, So I hope y'all can fight
- 38:20Speaker 1: them skeeters off and find a good big buck down
- 38:22Speaker 1: go black nights, right, I appreciate you. As you can see,
- 38:29Speaker 1: the winter can bring some success. December can be a
- 38:32Speaker 1: great month. So I would highly suggest getting out there
- 38:35Speaker 1: and hunting a little bit. And I would also suggest,
- 38:37Speaker 1: like I mentioned earlier, um, if you don't really know
- 38:40Speaker 1: a lot about field dressing and or butchering your deer,
- 38:43Speaker 1: there are a couple of videos that we will link
- 38:45Speaker 1: to below that show you how Steve Mr Steve Ronella
- 38:49Speaker 1: shows you how to do that. And also if you
- 38:51Speaker 1: need a little encouragement as to why to see December
- 38:54Speaker 1: deer hunting can be amazing and you're missing out. If
- 38:57Speaker 1: you're not going, you should go check out Tony Peterson's
- 39:00Speaker 1: at this article and then also check out the Element
- 39:02Speaker 1: podcast because you'll hear the story of how to public
- 39:05Speaker 1: land mature deer in Texas go down in one day
- 39:09Speaker 1: from the Element crew. It's gonna be an awesome podcast.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Then Boys is Fresh, y'all, remember to keep it fresh.
- 39:15Speaker 1: This has been rough. Fresh
