Lead Pipe Replacement Begins on Mitchell Street | Milwaukee News
Lead pipes are finally being tackled in Milwaukee — starting Monday, July 13th, Mitchell Street between South 23rd and South Layton Blvd will be closed weekdays 7 AM to 5 PM, but open weekends and nights. This is Phase 1 of the city’s big push to replace 65,000 lead service lines by 2037, with crews moving west one street at a time over the next four weeks. Before digging begins, crews will visit every home and business to notify residents and set up detours.
