- 0:18Speaker 1: Return to Glory Podcast Center's Armadigae Austin Roads to go
- 0:21Speaker 1: to Free Tech.
- 0:22Speaker 2: It's almost Halloween.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Nebraska decided not to scare us this week and play
- 0:29Speaker 1: well against Ohio State, which I'm not sure how we
- 0:34Speaker 1: did or why we did.
- 0:36Speaker 2: It was great, but it's a good thing.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Did not come out with a win, but kept it close,
- 0:43Speaker 1: had the chances to win the game on the road
- 0:45Speaker 1: on Saturday, and here we are Monday evening recording the
- 0:51Speaker 1: recap pod. The only word that I can really come
- 0:55Speaker 1: up with to describe my emotions. You know, last week
- 0:57Speaker 1: it was the twenty word, have obliterated, annihilated. This week
- 1:03Speaker 1: it's confused, and it's the word I keep hearing over
- 1:08Speaker 1: and over and over. I don't know what any of
- 1:13Speaker 1: this means. It's just hard to pinpoint, and not just
- 1:17Speaker 1: our game, but then you know your organ Illinois game,
- 1:20Speaker 1: the way that went out, and then you look at
- 1:21Speaker 1: the rest of college football. It just continues to confuse
- 1:24Speaker 1: you week after week some of these results, but it
- 1:27Speaker 1: makes it that much better to stay engaged with I
- 1:30Speaker 1: think the bottom line.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Sorry messing with my background.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I agree, it was I actually had It's
- 1:46Speaker 4: probably the best time I've had watching US lose.
- 1:52Speaker 3: A football game.
- 1:54Speaker 4: I'm trying to think of another time where I'm watching
- 1:56Speaker 4: US lose and I was like wow, Like.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I am just blowing away by how well that game went.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Yeah, at least at least they didn't come out laying
- 2:07Speaker 5: egg and you gotta look back and they need a
- 2:11Speaker 5: game and think that they just probably gave up on it,
- 2:14Speaker 5: or or maybe Indians just that good. I don't know,
- 2:17Speaker 5: but at least your defense shut up this game. That's
- 2:19Speaker 5: that's the main part of it. That that was the
- 2:21Speaker 5: main thing where your defense looked good again.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I honestly would suspect that if we don't get beat
- 2:27Speaker 4: by Indiana the way we got beat by Indiana last week,
- 2:31Speaker 4: we don't look as good against Ohio State this last week.
- 2:34Speaker 1: That's what's weird is you can look at it in
- 2:37Speaker 1: a game to game basis. You can look at it,
- 2:40Speaker 1: you know, combining the Indiana game in this game. You
- 2:42Speaker 1: can look at it longer than that too. It's so
- 2:45Speaker 1: hard to get opinions and thoughts and wrap your head
- 2:51Speaker 1: around everything that's went on the past two weeks. Specifically,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I mean you mentioned the defense. I guess, yeah, I
- 2:57Speaker 1: mean I guess it looked better, and it did obviously,
- 3:00Speaker 1: but it just makes it that much more puzzling. Why
- 3:02Speaker 1: did the last week happen the way it did? And
- 3:05Speaker 1: we looked like everything Indiana wanted to do was working
- 3:08Speaker 1: and it did so. Not here to talk about Indiana
- 3:11Speaker 1: a whole lot, but the Ohio State game itself, you
- 3:16Speaker 1: got back to your mind of being at ease with
- 3:20Speaker 1: where the direction I think is headed. The biggest thing
- 3:24Speaker 1: that I wrote down in my thoughts, I just kept
- 3:27Speaker 1: going back to when I tried to rationalize everything that's
- 3:30Speaker 1: going on with Nebraska football is in real said it real,
- 3:33Speaker 1: said the word I can't. I don't know if it
- 3:35Speaker 1: was today or if it was on Saturday after the game,
- 3:38Speaker 1: but he used the word sustainability. And the other word
- 3:42Speaker 1: I would say is consistency. Right like one game. While
- 3:46Speaker 1: I think everybody tries to say what does this mean?
- 3:51Speaker 1: I think it's harder to do that today in college football,
- 3:54Speaker 1: and me look at the NFL even this year, and
- 3:57Speaker 1: then specifically with Nebraska, it's harder to look at it
- 3:59Speaker 1: and say, well, this team's really really good. This team's
- 4:03Speaker 1: not very good because any given week we've seen results
- 4:09Speaker 1: that just make zero sense with the traditional way of thinking.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So like, sustainability is what we want to see right
- 4:18Speaker 1: week after week, and when you have a game like Indiana,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you just start to go, ah, that is not what
- 4:25Speaker 1: we wanted to happen, to be consistent, to be going
- 4:28Speaker 1: and improving week after week. But then you play Ohio State.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Who I mean, Ohio State. Indiana plays tomorrow on a
- 4:36Speaker 1: neutral site field or even at Indiana. Ohio State is
- 4:39Speaker 1: going to be favored in that game. I don't know
- 4:41Speaker 1: how much, but they're going to be the favorite to win.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So it's just hard to pinpoint exactly what this means
- 4:50Speaker 1: for the season so far. But then especially here as
- 4:53Speaker 1: we finish out our last four games.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I'm yeah, I agree.
- 5:02Speaker 4: I mean that's why he loved like Matt Rule loves
- 5:05Speaker 4: Kirk parents. Any moment he can get to be like man,
- 5:07Speaker 4: if we could just be Iowa, that would be great.
- 5:10Speaker 4: And I mean that's what Iowa does is they don't
- 5:12Speaker 4: get destroyed and they come out they win eight games
- 5:15Speaker 4: every year and occasion of the have a year where
- 5:17Speaker 4: they'll go off and be eleven and one lose to
- 5:19Speaker 4: Ohio State and playing a big bowl game, and i
- 5:24Speaker 4: that's realistically.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I mean, if you can do that as.
- 5:27Speaker 4: A program with the transfer portal and nil, I think
- 5:31Speaker 4: that would be a successful program at least.
- 5:37Speaker 6: At least it gives you hope.
- 5:38Speaker 5: Now towards the end of the year, Yes, you're not
- 5:41Speaker 5: anywhere near as worried about making a bowl game now.
- 5:45Speaker 6: I mean you should.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Still worried, but you just feel better.
- 5:49Speaker 4: I mean, if you go out and you get destroyed
- 5:51Speaker 4: by Indiana, then you get pulverized by Ohio State, you
- 5:54Speaker 4: don't feel good about the direction.
- 5:56Speaker 3: You know, you're not you're not ending on a high note.
- 5:58Speaker 3: You're kind of spy.
- 5:59Speaker 4: You feel like you're spiraling, and that I thought that's
- 6:02Speaker 4: what was going to happen, and maybe those expectations. I
- 6:05Speaker 4: thought we were going to get obliterated. That's why we
- 6:07Speaker 4: didn't give our score predictions last week. We just like man,
- 6:10Speaker 4: I give a twenty seven point spread, you know, a
- 6:13Speaker 4: score prediction.
- 6:15Speaker 3: But like I said, that was the most point I've
- 6:18Speaker 3: had watching this lose a game in a while.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Now, take you said about a ball game and talk
- 6:23Speaker 5: to me if they lose the UCLA.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I don't want to talk too much about the UCLA.
- 6:29Speaker 1: That we'll talk about that on Wednesday, because I do
- 6:31Speaker 1: think like it makes this week's game. I don't know,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I guess another one of the most important games, because
- 6:40Speaker 1: you think that UCLA is potentially the most winnable game of.
- 6:46Speaker 2: The last four, but they're all winnable.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And I kind of said that after Indiana too, like
- 6:51Speaker 1: it just made you question whether we could get to
- 6:53Speaker 1: a bowl game.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Just said, I think you feel better, but it's not.
- 6:57Speaker 1: We're not given a bowl game just because we played
- 6:59Speaker 1: it close to with Ohio State.
- 7:01Speaker 2: That means nothing as far still only scored point.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Yes, we still only scored seventeen points.
- 7:09Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It again confusing, weird to think about all the thoughts,
- 7:16Speaker 1: but it does just make you feel a little better
- 7:18Speaker 1: of the direction we're going now. I say all that
- 7:23Speaker 1: what I wanted to do here to start, and I
- 7:25Speaker 1: didn't warn you guys with this. We talked on last week,
- 7:29Speaker 1: how these are the things we need to do to
- 7:32Speaker 1: expect to win. Right that gave us his list of
- 7:37Speaker 1: seven things, eight things that he had to win the game,
- 7:40Speaker 1: which is how coach Rule and the staff needed to
- 7:43Speaker 1: get the players to think going into a little high
- 7:46Speaker 1: state game. That game plan was very close to becoming
- 7:55Speaker 1: a win, but it did. And while you want to say, man,
- 8:00Speaker 1: everything is almost great because we kept it close with
- 8:04Speaker 1: the Ohio State, we played with them, we can play
- 8:05Speaker 1: with anybody. We still lost another one score game. We
- 8:11Speaker 1: had several opportunities to win that game. And while you
- 8:15Speaker 1: can say, yao, Ohio State's just better than us, yeah, there,
- 8:19Speaker 1: they have more talent.
- 8:20Speaker 2: That's not the question where Indiana.
- 8:22Speaker 1: You know, maybe I don't know Whyo State has more talent,
- 8:24Speaker 1: but we have the opportunities to win this game. And
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'll say, and we should have won. We should have
- 8:29Speaker 1: won the game different pieces. So not that all of
- 8:34Speaker 1: this is the end all be all to why we
- 8:36Speaker 1: lost the game, but just some things that.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Stick out now.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Obviously, in between these negative things, there's a ton of
- 8:43Speaker 1: positive things. Unlike Indiana, the opening kickoff, into the first
- 8:50Speaker 1: play of the game, into the Buchhinie punt for the
- 8:56Speaker 1: first time, your mind just started going, oh yeah, and
- 9:01Speaker 1: how bad is I think they started on the thirty
- 9:03Speaker 1: six yard line Nebraska thirty six or thirty eight or
- 9:06Speaker 1: something like that. You just went, oh, boy, Like this
- 9:10Speaker 1: season's over, everything's done, it's falling apart. After Indiana then
- 9:18Speaker 1: we go out get the fourth and one huge stop. Okay,
- 9:21Speaker 1: that revitalized, relifted and said okay, no, no, no, no.
- 9:24Speaker 2: We're not gonna get our butts kicked.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I heard someone say that if Ahio State goes down
- 9:28Speaker 1: and scores at first drive, goes up seven to nothing,
- 9:32Speaker 1: that the game could have ended like Indiana. I don't
- 9:35Speaker 1: know about that, how bad it was, but if it
- 9:40Speaker 1: truly is based on the mentality, and it's that, and
- 9:43Speaker 1: I do I We're going to talk about that here later.
- 9:46Speaker 1: The mentality of the players and your mindset in the game.
- 9:48Speaker 1: If that's that big of a thing, which I think
- 9:51Speaker 1: it might be bigger than people realize, that could have
- 9:54Speaker 1: been what happened to Indiana a little bit too.
- 9:57Speaker 2: So that all happens right, and again the negative thing.
- 10:02Speaker 1: You you have a horrible first drive, the defense picks
- 10:05Speaker 1: you up, and you basically get to redeem yourself again.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Our offense in the first half, in general, they had
- 10:12Speaker 1: some moments, but it just looked once again incompetent. Now
- 10:19Speaker 1: and justify with Ohio State defense. Go ahead, But this
- 10:23Speaker 1: is what we've seen all year. It's not been great.
- 10:27Speaker 1: And I'm talking about the first specifically the play calling, Dak.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I know this is something that you just continue to
- 10:35Speaker 1: go off on and I know Saturday was a fun
- 10:40Speaker 1: day for you and you were you were a walking
- 10:42Speaker 1: highlight reel in yourself.
- 10:46Speaker 6: That's just excited.
- 10:49Speaker 2: You're you're something. Uh, I guess.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Talk through what how how you feel about the play
- 10:57Speaker 1: calling and your best friend Marcus Sadderfield or got satured
- 11:00Speaker 1: as you like to call.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Him, does Okay, first off, does he still have a job. Yes,
- 11:07Speaker 5: he shouldn't.
- 11:08Speaker 6: He shouldn't.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Okay, okay, stop stop stop.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Explain to me how that would help right now if
- 11:15Speaker 1: he doesn't have a job, tell me what, like, walk
- 11:17Speaker 1: me through that and how you would get through that
- 11:19Speaker 1: right now as a program.
- 11:22Speaker 5: I mean, he's obviously it's obvious right now he's not
- 11:26Speaker 5: gonna get any better. Like why would you not agreed?
- 11:29Speaker 1: Okay, okay, if that's if that's your opinion, okay, so
- 11:31Speaker 1: then talk me through what what how how do we
- 11:34Speaker 1: fix that by firing him now versus wait until the
- 11:36Speaker 1: end of the year.
- 11:38Speaker 6: What what?
- 11:38Speaker 2: What? What does that help?
- 11:41Speaker 6: I mean, it's so you just you know what is
- 11:44Speaker 6: what he is? Right now? So here this is how
- 11:46Speaker 6: you get.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Better, you get you get a new guy in there
- 11:48Speaker 5: and maybe gives it you stop.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Stop.
- 11:52Speaker 1: You can't get a new guy in there right now.
- 11:53Speaker 1: We're in the middle of the year. You're not hiring
- 11:55Speaker 1: a brand new guy off the streets.
- 11:57Speaker 5: No, but you have somebody that can take over who
- 12:01Speaker 5: I don't know who's.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Your That's why walking through this, I want you to
- 12:05Speaker 1: think that the quarterbacks coach is technically the co offensive coordinator, Rob.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Oh Man. We have a blank on his name. Who's
- 12:15Speaker 3: the quarterbacks coach that we just hired.
- 12:16Speaker 2: This summer, the one that's co s with Saderfield?
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah, Rob, And you want to say him, but that's
- 12:24Speaker 3: not it.
- 12:26Speaker 2: I'm forgetting his name. Glen Thomas.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Glen Thomas. Oh, Rob is the corners back?
- 12:32Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 12:33Speaker 2: Okay again? You bring you you do that? What is that, Saul?
- 12:37Speaker 2: From this year's standpoint?
- 12:42Speaker 6: Oh, I don't.
- 12:43Speaker 5: I don't know if it solves anything, but I think
- 12:47Speaker 5: it could help your offense long term views. Let go
- 12:51Speaker 5: now because right now it's your offense is not getting
- 12:54Speaker 5: any better. And I think I think you already know
- 12:58Speaker 5: he's gone, and I don't.
- 13:00Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 13:00Speaker 5: If so, say, say you know your cat fire at work,
- 13:04Speaker 5: how much effort would you give.
- 13:07Speaker 6: Not much, So I don't know how much effort he's given.
- 13:09Speaker 5: Either you put a new guy in there, he will
- 13:12Speaker 5: change the offense up.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And I do that with four games left, how much
- 13:17Speaker 1: can you change as.
- 13:21Speaker 4: The Jets, how they're doing after their quarterback chance, their
- 13:24Speaker 4: coaching change.
- 13:27Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. It's hard right now to justify
- 13:29Speaker 1: you agree. If things continue now till the end of
- 13:33Speaker 1: the year, I think this will be a very serious conversation,
- 13:36Speaker 1: if not more than likely. The question is, though, I
- 13:40Speaker 1: will say that was first half, second half. I thought
- 13:43Speaker 1: there were some signs of some good things that we've
- 13:46Speaker 1: shown On offense. I say our run game specifically looks
- 13:52Speaker 1: better better than it has and again I don't know
- 13:55Speaker 1: how much of that is scheme versus just our guys
- 13:57Speaker 1: making plays in the same system. Obviously you're making adjustments
- 14:02Speaker 1: as the staff small tweaks to make things work better.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I don't to me, I don't think the answer is
- 14:09Speaker 1: right now, but it's still not good right and so
- 14:14Speaker 1: I don't know what the next four games are going
- 14:19Speaker 1: to look like. But I don't think that involves changing
- 14:21Speaker 1: an outfensive coordinator. Once you get too late in the season.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I really don't think you can change it.
- 14:27Speaker 2: It hasn't been great.
- 14:29Speaker 1: It hasn't and you obviously still have a talented quarterback
- 14:36Speaker 1: that there's some things to talk about with Dylan too.
- 14:38Speaker 2: So I don't austin any thoughts on sadderfield.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I guess the other thing mentioning play calling, I mean,
- 14:43Speaker 1: it's kind of funny. I saw all the means of
- 14:45Speaker 1: the screens that would just continue to run over.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Infuriating I completed screens for twenty eight yards.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I get the design of them all, like I actually
- 15:00Speaker 1: I'm a big screen guy, but in order for it
- 15:03Speaker 1: to work, you have to be able to block it effectively,
- 15:06Speaker 1: because they're not tough throws to make right. A lot
- 15:09Speaker 1: of it is scheming, but if you don't block it correctly,
- 15:12Speaker 1: they're they're just they looked just disastrous, and a lot
- 15:15Speaker 1: of them did.
- 15:17Speaker 4: I said, ten completed screen passes for twenty eight yards,
- 15:20Speaker 4: you got to you gotta do something. And I think
- 15:24Speaker 4: most of those yards came on one run that we actually
- 15:27Speaker 4: had one successful screenplay.
- 15:31Speaker 3: That was my big complaint.
- 15:32Speaker 4: I mean, I sent that screen the text message to
- 15:34Speaker 4: you guys that then took four hours to deliver. So
- 15:36Speaker 4: you guys thought I was drunk texting you about screens
- 15:39Speaker 4: two hours after the game.
- 15:41Speaker 1: You like didn't say something right and either I just
- 15:43Speaker 1: had no idea what you were saying.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Yeah, the yeah autocorrec got me in a couple of words.
- 15:48Speaker 4: I was just frustrated to watch it. It was like
- 15:50Speaker 4: the first quarter we threw like our fourth screen passes, Like,
- 15:53Speaker 4: what the hell are we doing? It was like third
- 15:55Speaker 4: and eleven and we threw a screen pass behind the
- 15:57Speaker 4: line of scrimmage and I was just I was over it.
- 16:00Speaker 4: But we're not hiring centerfield. Your wife fixing me U.
- 16:05Speaker 1: These are all the words that came out of Austin's
- 16:06Speaker 1: mouth so far, and they were like four.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Huss word type sentences.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Yeah. The first thing, the very first thing in the game,
- 16:15Speaker 4: they said Quinn and Eves back to receive the ball,
- 16:17Speaker 4: and I said, what the hell are they doing?
- 16:19Speaker 3: And man, He's like, what did you say? And I
- 16:21Speaker 3: was like, I said, what the hell are you doing?
- 16:22Speaker 4: She's like about what, well they have that guy, like,
- 16:24Speaker 4: they have Quint and ives Rck there to re see
- 16:26Speaker 4: the ball. Why would they put him back there? He's
- 16:27Speaker 4: probably just gonna then he immediately fumbled the ball and
- 16:30Speaker 4: I was like, gonna do that, Like, oh my gosh, No,
- 16:35Speaker 4: centerfield's not getting fired. I don't think he's done a
- 16:38Speaker 4: great job, but it's not helping anything. Dylan Royola is
- 16:42Speaker 4: figuring it out. Still, offense looked better in the second
- 16:46Speaker 4: half they did the first half. It kind of looked
- 16:48Speaker 4: like we open it up a little bit, so you
- 16:49Speaker 4: kind of feel a little bit better of maybe it's
- 16:52Speaker 4: maybe it was like a hey, we need to switch
- 16:54Speaker 4: this up, and that was kind of their coming to
- 16:56Speaker 4: Jesus moment of all right, maybe we need to get
- 16:59Speaker 4: a little more creative with it.
- 17:01Speaker 2: So Dylan Royola, you ran the ball and he did. Yeah,
- 17:09Speaker 2: he's not he's.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Not fast, but but I don't think that's I mean,
- 17:18Speaker 1: I think a little bit of that's him, but I'll
- 17:21Speaker 1: give credit to the offensive staff. I think that's the
- 17:23Speaker 1: offensive staff finally saying Dylan needs to run the ball
- 17:25Speaker 1: for our offense to work, and therefore some of them
- 17:29Speaker 1: were designed, but they helped coach him. Hey you can
- 17:34Speaker 1: scramble and you can run, and here are times to
- 17:37Speaker 1: do it. And then Dylan went out and did it,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and that, I mean, that was our offense in the
- 17:42Speaker 1: first half, like that was our entire offense. He let
- 17:45Speaker 1: us in rushing at halftime. That is the added element
- 17:49Speaker 1: that we need to see. I never thought that he
- 17:51Speaker 1: couldn't run it. He wasn't physically capable of doing it.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It was we didn't either. We told him we didn't
- 17:57Speaker 1: want to get hurt, so we weren't coaching him that way,
- 17:59Speaker 1: which again goes back to why it's a little more disappointing,
- 18:01Speaker 1: why this hasn't been all year. But I think that
- 18:05Speaker 1: gave us another element that Olio State basically was saying
- 18:08Speaker 1: in that first half, he's not running it, he's never
- 18:11Speaker 1: doing it, and then that is what got us first
- 18:14Speaker 1: downs and allowed us to move the ball in the
- 18:17Speaker 1: first half. The credit there to making that adjustment. And
- 18:21Speaker 1: then we did take a couple of shots downfield, which
- 18:23Speaker 1: we said we need to do.
- 18:24Speaker 6: Now.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Don't think we completed many of them.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But we started to at least show the threat of
- 18:31Speaker 1: this is what we want.
- 18:32Speaker 2: We can do.
- 18:35Speaker 1: It opened things up for us and I think our offense.
- 18:41Speaker 1: So yeah, while our offense we still say maybe isn't good,
- 18:43Speaker 1: it got there were signs of adjustments made this game
- 18:47Speaker 1: that helped made you think, Okay, if we start to
- 18:50Speaker 1: do some of this stuff here in the last four games,
- 18:54Speaker 1: maybe we can score twenty four points and maybe win
- 18:56Speaker 1: a game without holding teams to n or twenty. Like
- 19:00Speaker 1: that seems like how we have to win right now.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You know, I say twenty one. We have whole teams
- 19:06Speaker 1: under twenty to win these games, which which shouldn't be
- 19:09Speaker 1: the case right it. Our offense has to help us
- 19:12Speaker 1: help our defense out when they play a really good
- 19:14Speaker 1: game Indiana, nobody did anything, So I agree Dylan Royola
- 19:20Speaker 1: rain the ball looks good. The only question mark I
- 19:24Speaker 1: have and he's still learning. He's still a freshman. We
- 19:26Speaker 1: have to keep that in mind. I feel like his
- 19:29Speaker 1: zip on his pass as it has like is gone
- 19:32Speaker 1: for some reason. It just something off on it. You know,
- 19:35Speaker 1: you saw maybe in the spring game and even the
- 19:37Speaker 1: first game, he felt like he was just rifling stuff
- 19:39Speaker 1: in there. And you know, is that a confidence thing?
- 19:42Speaker 1: Is it a not trusting your receivers thing? Is there
- 19:45Speaker 1: a heard someone say maybe a potential injury thing like
- 19:50Speaker 1: not major, but enough to affect it. I don't know that.
- 19:53Speaker 1: That's the question mark I have on Riola right now.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Is his ability just a zip it which we saw
- 19:58Speaker 1: early on, and not as much as a blaked.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree.
- 20:03Speaker 4: I mean the interception, that's kind of how you felt.
- 20:04Speaker 4: It just was in the air forever. I mean, it
- 20:07Speaker 4: wasn't a very good pass. There clearly was something miscommunicated
- 20:11Speaker 4: there on the interception of the end of the game.
- 20:13Speaker 3: But I see what you're saying.
- 20:15Speaker 4: I kind of thought it was just more of a
- 20:17Speaker 4: because he usually does still put the ball where he
- 20:19Speaker 4: needs to even without the zip. I kind of just
- 20:22Speaker 4: thought it was I'm gonna lob it up there and
- 20:24Speaker 4: give my big receivers times to time to get this
- 20:27Speaker 4: ball or get a PI.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:29Speaker 4: I agree, though it doesn't look as quick as it
- 20:32Speaker 4: did during the spring game.
- 20:36Speaker 5: At least at least he finally took what the defense giving.
- 20:39Speaker 5: I mean, if you have all that room to run,
- 20:41Speaker 5: you got it, you gotta take it. Like the house
- 20:43Speaker 5: State was not even worried about it all.
- 20:44Speaker 6: He took it.
- 20:45Speaker 5: And then in the second half, I feel like they
- 20:47Speaker 5: kind of we're watching a little bit more, but but.
- 20:52Speaker 6: He finally I get you're saying that zip on it.
- 20:56Speaker 5: But you know, deep balls, they do feel like they
- 20:57Speaker 5: pull up the air forever like almost like an that
- 21:00Speaker 5: kind of but at least they finally threw one and
- 21:04Speaker 5: you know what, you got p I on it too.
- 21:06Speaker 5: That's what I've been saying, throw it deep.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yeah, there's that added element right of of getting past
- 21:13Speaker 1: interference calls and the really good quarterbacks nowhere to put
- 21:15Speaker 1: the ball.
- 21:15Speaker 2: We got a couple of those early on in the year.
- 21:18Speaker 1: It so I think there's signs of life with with
- 21:21Speaker 1: this offense. It's still not good yet, but it's maybe
- 21:27Speaker 1: moving in the right direction. One thing that Rule mentioned,
- 21:30Speaker 1: he talked about, you know, if you're going to be
- 21:32Speaker 1: a running team, you have to be good on third down,
- 21:34Speaker 1: and I think at times we did, but other times
- 21:38Speaker 1: it just looked.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Not good again, and some of that comes from your
- 21:43Speaker 2: run game.
- 21:44Speaker 1: If you can't get at least four yards on a
- 21:47Speaker 1: couple of those carriages and makes it harder, puts you
- 21:48Speaker 1: in third and long. I thought the second half the
- 21:51Speaker 1: run game opened up. The one player that sticks out
- 21:54Speaker 1: that gosh, you just what you want you want to
- 21:57Speaker 1: have was when daldell are offensive line and that the
- 22:00Speaker 1: scheme was great, broke through it didn't get touched for
- 22:03Speaker 1: about eleven yards and got tripped up by the one
- 22:08Speaker 1: safety otherwise probably was a touchdown. And you just need
- 22:13Speaker 1: a play like that to happen to win a game
- 22:15Speaker 1: like that, like gosh.
- 22:17Speaker 4: You need to get that pick we you know, we
- 22:19Speaker 4: need to pick six who got it to the five
- 22:21Speaker 4: yard line and get.
- 22:23Speaker 1: It in And guess what, Ohio State how they scored.
- 22:26Speaker 1: They had three huge plays, So that big play explosiveness
- 22:32Speaker 1: is still lacking on offense. And specifically I will say too,
- 22:39Speaker 1: we know you we talked. We've showed the graphic early
- 22:42Speaker 1: in the year on after the Illinois game on go
- 22:46Speaker 1: ahead drives when the game is tied or one score
- 22:49Speaker 1: game by Nebraska. Again, Ohio State caveat whatever you want
- 22:52Speaker 1: to say, Oh they're good, but once again that last
- 22:55Speaker 1: drive that's not ending points and.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Andrew was looking really bad until we got bailed out
- 23:02Speaker 4: by questionable target.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yes, so that play interesting in itself.
- 23:09Speaker 1: So it it just it's hard because yes, you want
- 23:16Speaker 1: to say Odd's Ohio State, but we have the chances
- 23:20Speaker 1: to win the game again and we didn't do it.
- 23:23Speaker 1: And if our coaches are trying to get expecting to win,
- 23:26Speaker 1: the players minds, which I think we were pretty good there,
- 23:29Speaker 1: but we didn't. We got to think a little bit
- 23:31Speaker 1: that way too. Of the opportunities were there to win
- 23:33Speaker 1: the game. We played well enough, our defense played more
- 23:37Speaker 1: than well enough to win that game against the explosive
- 23:40Speaker 1: what we think is an explosive offense, and we just
- 23:43Speaker 1: didn't do it.
- 23:44Speaker 4: So and I will We've gone about thirty minutes and
- 23:49Speaker 4: we have not brought up the hero of the game,
- 23:53Speaker 4: John hole.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Mci fifty four?
- 23:59Speaker 6: Where's he been?
- 23:59Speaker 1: All you?
- 24:00Speaker 6: What the heck?
- 24:02Speaker 3: On the road?
- 24:03Speaker 2: Again?
- 24:03Speaker 1: Confusing, like just confusing. I just don't I don't understand.
- 24:09Speaker 1: And it's not like those were like question like, oh no,
- 24:13Speaker 1: they just were them, right. I mean that the second one, especially,
- 24:21Speaker 1: I mean to cut it to fourteen to six, I
- 24:23Speaker 1: think was the biggest one.
- 24:24Speaker 2: The fifty four yarder was like holy cow.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Like again, consistency, sustainability in that area of the game.
- 24:34Speaker 1: We have to show that we can do that. That's
- 24:35Speaker 1: the first time that we were all just like, what
- 24:37Speaker 1: was that? Now, let's do it. Let's do it week
- 24:39Speaker 1: after week. And I'm not saying we have to go
- 24:42Speaker 1: like that every week. That was excellent, but be consistent
- 24:45Speaker 1: in the kicking game, Like, let's show that we can
- 24:47Speaker 1: do it one week is great, but we've lost so
- 24:50Speaker 1: many games off of that too, So yeah, you're right,
- 24:53Speaker 1: we need we need to give that a shout out,
- 24:55Speaker 1: especially while we're talking about offense, because there were points
- 24:57Speaker 1: in that game where it was just like, let's just
- 24:59Speaker 1: keep kicking field goals in fourteen and like, who would
- 25:05Speaker 1: have thought that after our worst unit has been our
- 25:08Speaker 1: special teams kicking and.
- 25:10Speaker 4: It was nice to get that field goal after whatever
- 25:12Speaker 4: that fiasco was with the refs spotting the ball behind
- 25:16Speaker 4: the the.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Line of scrimmage and time whatever. That was a nightmare.
- 25:23Speaker 1: But before we move on to the refs decaying on.
- 25:29Speaker 5: The kicking, at least you at least you can feel
- 25:33Speaker 5: like you trust a little bit.
- 25:35Speaker 6: But like you said, that was.
- 25:36Speaker 5: Only one game out of your punning was pretty bad
- 25:44Speaker 5: that that shank after that, Yeah, we I definitely thought, well,
- 25:49Speaker 5: this is going to go exactly in the ind A
- 25:50Speaker 5: game here. So yeah, you find field kicking and work
- 25:53Speaker 5: and then your punny goes to ship. So I don't know, uh,
- 25:59Speaker 5: you can't just win them all.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Like the Big ten release statement today on specifically the
- 26:05Speaker 1: first down Emmons Johnson's first down that was over by
- 26:09Speaker 1: like a yard and a half and then they called
- 26:12Speaker 1: it short clock ran we didn't get the clock stopped.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And I think right after that, maybe there was that
- 26:18Speaker 1: offensive pass interference that they called on Banks or yeah
- 26:24Speaker 1: that was also like yeah, that was also bad. Here's
- 26:28Speaker 1: the thing with those two calls, like yes, I don't
- 26:30Speaker 1: I don't think they were probably the right call.
- 26:33Speaker 2: We actually did an effect.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Now, maybe we could have scored a touchdown, but again,
- 26:37Speaker 1: our chances of scoring touchdowns in the red zones not great.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So we made the field goal regardless. It was a
- 26:43Speaker 1: longer field goal and it was impressive.
- 26:45Speaker 3: That's why I said, it's if we missed that field goal, though,
- 26:50Speaker 3: you you feel different about it.
- 26:52Speaker 6: For so.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Are the officiating conversation here another thing everybody loves talking
- 27:03Speaker 1: about it. Rule once again phenomenal communicator in the press
- 27:07Speaker 1: conference is about the officiating, just talking about how it's
- 27:11Speaker 1: the hardest job in the world. Just want transparency with
- 27:14Speaker 1: the thing with the calls talked about, how is his
- 27:17Speaker 1: un sportsman likes have been incorrect that they have Ryan day.
- 27:22Speaker 1: So we go back to that targeting call again. Whether
- 27:25Speaker 1: you think it's targeting or not, I don't know. Huster
- 27:27Speaker 1: fans are gonna say if the course was a while
- 27:30Speaker 1: of state, fans are pissed. Ryan Day takes off his
- 27:34Speaker 1: headset and I don't think he throws it, but basically
- 27:36Speaker 1: acts like he spikes it. Right, They just give him
- 27:38Speaker 1: a sideline and warning rules. Maybe did throw his so
- 27:41Speaker 1: he gets the sportsman likes previous game. Just in general
- 27:47Speaker 1: with the officiating, my mind doesn't change on it. There
- 27:50Speaker 1: are poor calls, it is hard, there's video reviews on everything.
- 27:55Speaker 1: This might be an interesting take. I don't I don't
- 28:00Speaker 1: know that I'm gonna say this. I don't know they're
- 28:03Speaker 1: getting paid enough. And my take behind that these officials
- 28:10Speaker 1: and any level, right, if you're talking about high school level,
- 28:14Speaker 1: you stuff is a whole nother level. Those are, you know, something,
- 28:18Speaker 1: more volunteers, lower paying jobs. But it's harder, harder and
- 28:21Speaker 1: harder and harder and harder to find officials at the
- 28:24Speaker 1: high school level. Even now, you can't tell me it
- 28:27Speaker 1: doesn't trickle up to the college level. And guys getting paid,
- 28:31Speaker 1: I'm not sure what they get paid. Let's just call
- 28:33Speaker 1: it a couple.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Of grand for a game. You want to do a
- 28:38Speaker 2: good job, You're.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Trying to do a good job, but a lot of
- 28:42Speaker 1: these guys, if I had to guess, are not full
- 28:44Speaker 1: time officials.
- 28:45Speaker 2: That's not their full time job.
- 28:46Speaker 3: I think most of them are lawyers, aren't they A.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Lot of them do other things.
- 28:51Speaker 1: And I get people are going to say paid officials more, Well,
- 28:55Speaker 1: guess what if you pay them enough for it to
- 28:57Speaker 1: become their full time job. Now you're allowed to really
- 29:01Speaker 1: focus on the game. The rules watch a lot more
- 29:05Speaker 1: film than they are. They watch a lot of film already.
- 29:07Speaker 1: It's not like they just go into a game blind.
- 29:09Speaker 1: They have so much more time and guess, and they
- 29:11Speaker 1: maybe even have time. You know, you have the opportunity
- 29:14Speaker 1: to get more guys in the box, in the in
- 29:16Speaker 1: the command centers to where you can get more calls right.
- 29:19Speaker 1: The NFL is get getting better at getting calls right,
- 29:24Speaker 1: because yeah, there are going to be calls that are missed.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I've always said this with review it sucks the more
- 29:29Speaker 1: and more that we allow them to.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Manipulate the game.
- 29:32Speaker 1: It makes the officials worse and worse, and it makes
- 29:34Speaker 1: the officials want to ref worse and worse. So now
- 29:37Speaker 1: you're good officials are saying, well, I'm not doing this
- 29:38Speaker 1: crap because all I'm going to do is get ridiculed.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Part of that, yes, but it is your job, right,
- 29:43Speaker 1: It's still their job to do it, right, So I
- 29:45Speaker 1: also get that side of it. But if you're not
- 29:46Speaker 1: getting paid enough to do it, you're gonna say, well,
- 29:48Speaker 1: ef it, I don't really care. So you pay them
- 29:52Speaker 1: more now, just like college athletes, the more they get paid,
- 29:56Speaker 1: the more right you have to criticize them. Same thing
- 29:59Speaker 1: with official If you put more time into it becomes
- 30:01Speaker 1: your full time job. It's a big part of the game.
- 30:05Speaker 1: So that's my take on it right now. That's how
- 30:08Speaker 1: I feel on it is. Yeah, I get they're gonna
- 30:10Speaker 1: miss calls and it's a hard, hard job. And maybe
- 30:14Speaker 1: even I've always liked this thing, you know, get the
- 30:17Speaker 1: officials out in front of a microphone after the game
- 30:19Speaker 1: and just be transparent with the stuff that they may
- 30:21Speaker 1: have missed and how they saw certain things. I don't
- 30:24Speaker 1: think they should do that now the way they get paid.
- 30:26Speaker 1: But if you make it a more of a professional
- 30:28Speaker 1: job with heavier contracts and more publicized and yeah, you
- 30:35Speaker 1: you are, it's a little bit more about them, which
- 30:37Speaker 1: people probably don't want to see. But people are making
- 30:39Speaker 1: it about them anyways. So those whole rant on officials
- 30:43Speaker 1: right now game.
- 30:45Speaker 3: It is surprising.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I like that Big ten respect between two thousand and
- 30:47Speaker 4: three thousand a game, which is lower than I thought.
- 30:53Speaker 4: You know, it's like one day of work, So maybe
- 30:57Speaker 4: it's not an unreasonable about advice. You're saying more money,
- 30:59Speaker 4: check better talent. I do like how the NBA does
- 31:02Speaker 4: the two minute report. It's like, hey, these are the
- 31:05Speaker 4: calls are missed. That's it, that's all we're gonna like.
- 31:08Speaker 4: It doesn't change anything, but we're it's like, you know,
- 31:09Speaker 4: we also got this wrong mm hmm, which I mean.
- 31:12Speaker 4: I like that the Big ten camera. They're like, yeah,
- 31:14Speaker 4: we did. We we messed up, Like that's we understand
- 31:17Speaker 4: that it's gonna happen.
- 31:19Speaker 2: See we do, and like it doesn't.
- 31:22Speaker 1: We do understand it happens. But some people can't get
- 31:25Speaker 1: their heads to that point. They say, well, yeah, you
- 31:27Speaker 1: messed up, but you can't make you can't mess it up.
- 31:29Speaker 1: That's your job. You can't mess it up in this
- 31:31Speaker 1: big of a game. And yeah, you're admitting it, but
- 31:34Speaker 1: that doesn't salt. Some people have that mindset, and that's
- 31:36Speaker 1: what's so hard about it all. Like some people think
- 31:39Speaker 1: officiating is getting worse and worse year after year. I'm
- 31:43Speaker 1: not gonna say that.
- 31:44Speaker 3: I don't know that.
- 31:45Speaker 4: I think it's just TV and camera angles are better.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Deck I mean your vikings.
- 31:50Speaker 5: The I was just gonna here it go again. Okay, yeah,
- 31:55Speaker 5: so here here's the one argument that's paining more. What
- 31:58Speaker 5: happened Thursday night.
- 32:00Speaker 6: The high school?
- 32:01Speaker 5: Anyone that I can see that with face mask and
- 32:03Speaker 5: it was the NFL game. They missed it into the
- 32:06Speaker 5: game right there.
- 32:07Speaker 6: So I don't know.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I just think so So okay, let's look, let's break
- 32:14Speaker 1: down a play like that.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Why is that call get missed.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Because the ref is behind them?
- 32:19Speaker 1: Okay, one, there's one rep maybe two maybe they did
- 32:24Speaker 1: not get paid off. There's one ref maybe two watching
- 32:28Speaker 1: that on the field live. So how can you fix that? Well,
- 32:31Speaker 1: here's here's a here's a solution. What you get you
- 32:35Speaker 1: add more refs, Add five more refs in the field,
- 32:39Speaker 1: like you're paying more. Another thing is, you know a
- 32:42Speaker 1: call gets missed like that, maybe because of their maybe training,
- 32:45Speaker 1: I don't know. Another thing, Have a system where that
- 32:48Speaker 1: can get corrected in the moment from someone that's watching
- 32:51Speaker 1: it on the TV.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Have have a way to do that.
- 32:55Speaker 3: I mean, they did that in the UFO and I
- 32:57Speaker 3: thought it was pretty.
- 32:58Speaker 6: Don't they have it.
- 33:00Speaker 3: I don't know if they do.
- 33:01Speaker 1: They do the NFL is eight officials in the field.
- 33:06Speaker 2: That could be wrong. Maybe college does too.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I'm just saying the calls get missed, They're gonna get missed.
- 33:12Speaker 1: And I will one hundred percent say until someone tells
- 33:15Speaker 1: me there's a paying off on officials. Never ever, ever, ever, ever,
- 33:19Speaker 1: ever are officials trying to screw a team over ever,
- 33:23Speaker 1: no matter how bad you think one side can be
- 33:25Speaker 1: in any game, It's never the case ever. So and
- 33:32Speaker 1: Dax just laughing because I think he disagrees it. It
- 33:35Speaker 1: just that's not They have no hidden agendas behind any
- 33:39Speaker 1: of it.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Official no sky judge in the NFL.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Oh you said sky they said side judge, a sky.
- 33:46Speaker 6: Judge sky judge, like I was thinking of.
- 33:50Speaker 5: I'll think of the x Y reviews where they tell
- 33:52Speaker 5: it like they don't got to go to camera anymore.
- 33:54Speaker 5: They can just they call it in and see what
- 33:55Speaker 5: they say, make quick they Why can't you do that
- 33:58Speaker 5: for calls?
- 33:59Speaker 1: Like I agree, Like I think that's a solution that
- 34:04Speaker 1: we hopefully will get to in some of these things,
- 34:06Speaker 1: but it's just hard because of a fan you don't
- 34:09Speaker 1: want refs and it both ways. It's not again, look
- 34:11Speaker 1: at the Ohio State Umbraska game, it's not everything that
- 34:14Speaker 1: was not one sided. As much as fan bases want
- 34:16Speaker 1: to say that, I guarantee you if you listen to
- 34:18Speaker 1: Ohio State podcast, they are over there complaining about officials,
- 34:21Speaker 1: just like Nebraska fans are.
- 34:23Speaker 2: It's just the nick that. It's just the society we
- 34:26Speaker 2: live in.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So that's my argument for yeah, paying them more to
- 34:29Speaker 1: get and I say paying them more as a group
- 34:32Speaker 1: for a game that might not be paying an individual more,
- 34:34Speaker 1: but pay five more guys to be out there so
- 34:36Speaker 1: you can't miss a face mask, or you have two
- 34:40Speaker 1: angles on a pass interference to where you can now
- 34:42Speaker 1: meet and discuss and say what you saw that's not it.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Or have three guys up in a booth and pay
- 34:48Speaker 1: three of them to be like a committee so when
- 34:50Speaker 1: you get an instant review on an offensive pass interference
- 34:53Speaker 1: you can say nope, like I get what maybe you saw,
- 34:56Speaker 1: but that's not right. Have a system in place to
- 34:59Speaker 1: get the call right if we're going to allow video review.
- 35:03Speaker 1: If not, then don't allow it at all in any sport,
- 35:07Speaker 1: and I know people aren't gonna say that's the way
- 35:08Speaker 1: to go. And what the officials do on the field
- 35:10Speaker 1: knowing there's gonna be miss calls right now, it is
- 35:12Speaker 1: so much up in the air.
- 35:13Speaker 6: It's hard.
- 35:14Speaker 1: It's hard to listen to fans talk about it because
- 35:17Speaker 1: I just think fans are so wrong in thinking that
- 35:20Speaker 1: these officials so they hate my team, No, they don't,
- 35:24Speaker 1: they don't.
- 35:27Speaker 5: It's I'm going to bring up that name or play,
- 35:30Speaker 5: so he's that was a Homerton passing your fans?
- 35:33Speaker 6: How do you as a rep? How do you what
- 35:34Speaker 6: are you looking at?
- 35:37Speaker 3: That's all.
- 35:38Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 35:39Speaker 1: That you might they might not have the angle, their
- 35:41Speaker 1: training might not be good enough because they're doing it
- 35:43Speaker 1: on a part time basis.
- 35:44Speaker 2: You don't know how you miss that. You don't know.
- 35:46Speaker 2: We're seeing five different angles on the TV.
- 35:48Speaker 1: That makes it pretty obvious as a rep on the
- 35:50Speaker 1: field that you're standing behind and yeah, your job is
- 35:53Speaker 1: to quote unquote get in the correct position to make
- 35:55Speaker 1: the call. They might not have had the angle to
- 35:57Speaker 1: see it. And if only one guy is on that play,
- 36:00Speaker 1: they missed it. And and what do you do about that?
- 36:04Speaker 1: Might since we have the cameras and technology freaking use
- 36:07Speaker 1: it like it's the don't just put it all in
- 36:09Speaker 1: one guy. That guy's an idiot. That guy's that guy
- 36:12Speaker 1: sucks at his job. Like it's if he didn't intentionally
- 36:16Speaker 1: not call that pass interference because he thought Nebraska would
- 36:18Speaker 1: be getting a favor.
- 36:19Speaker 2: He didn't do that.
- 36:20Speaker 6: Yeah, no, he he just missed it. But I do think.
- 36:28Speaker 5: At least at least throw in the fourth quarter that
- 36:30Speaker 5: you can call down and say, hey, you missed a call,
- 36:34Speaker 5: because because that's you can end the game like in
- 36:36Speaker 5: the fourth corner. Stuff may not the whole game because
- 36:39Speaker 5: the reason people don't want to do that because they
- 36:40Speaker 5: don't want to they think he'll take the game way
- 36:42Speaker 5: too long.
- 36:44Speaker 1: See, but then fans gotta entertainers have to make a
- 36:46Speaker 1: mindset on it. If they they if they complain about
- 36:49Speaker 1: the game taking too long, but then they can't complain
- 36:51Speaker 1: about the rest. It's it's a it's a give one,
- 36:53Speaker 1: take one, yeah, right, If you want to get the
- 36:55Speaker 1: call right and then give them the opportunity get the
- 36:57Speaker 1: call right, then don't complain about calls that they missed
- 37:00Speaker 1: because they dis miss Okay, enough officiating talk I funder
- 37:05Speaker 1: ran on it, but we have want talked about our
- 37:07Speaker 1: defense and how well of a job they did against
- 37:11Speaker 1: Ohio State. So Ohio State, would you believe that their
- 37:15Speaker 1: total offensive yards this game was as much as Indiana
- 37:19Speaker 1: had in the first half a week and a half ago.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Our defense came out to play.
- 37:26Speaker 1: They were on a mission from the get go against
- 37:29Speaker 1: very very talented, talented receivers, running backs, Will Howard's Will Howard.
- 37:35Speaker 4: They made Ohio State's offensive line look bad. I mean, honestly,
- 37:41Speaker 4: it was impressive.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Lowest point totally called them to all year. They basically
- 37:46Speaker 1: moved the ball on three big plays that because they
- 37:48Speaker 1: just had faster, better receivers they were able to score on.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Incredit to a house state for doing that. But wow,
- 37:57Speaker 1: like great job Tony White, defense and the front line
- 38:02Speaker 1: did their job again. After Indiana, it was questioning everything.
- 38:07Speaker 1: It was impressive, Butler stood out. Let's say Hubmuker stood out.
- 38:15Speaker 2: The hard pick. I agree.
- 38:17Speaker 1: As he caught it, it was like, please score, please score,
- 38:20Speaker 1: please score, and then we didn't score. And then all
- 38:24Speaker 1: of a sudden you're like, we're not going to score
- 38:25Speaker 1: and we did that.
- 38:28Speaker 5: Which you got think one reason why they came out
- 38:30Speaker 5: their hairund fires because of all weekdays heard how bad
- 38:33Speaker 5: they weren't. Because they were, it motivates you as a defense. Yeah,
- 38:38Speaker 5: and I and I think they're. I mean, they obviously
- 38:41Speaker 5: a lot better than weren't.
- 38:42Speaker 6: Indiana.
- 38:42Speaker 5: See the whole week you is here about bad you
- 38:44Speaker 5: were and you got embarrassed. I think your defense quit
- 38:47Speaker 5: in that game too. But and I'm sure in practice
- 38:50Speaker 5: that whole week they didn't. I'm guarantee to you why
- 38:54Speaker 5: I didn't take it easy on them.
- 38:57Speaker 1: He said midweek how pissed the guys were. I mean,
- 39:00Speaker 1: they were mad at themselves for how they played. And
- 39:03Speaker 1: you can call it schematics, you can call it just
- 39:05Speaker 1: getting out played.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, it was what it was.
- 39:07Speaker 1: And then this game they showed up and said it's
- 39:09Speaker 1: not happening, and they did a great job. Now here's
- 39:13Speaker 1: what is upsetting. Still, we played so so so, so
- 39:16Speaker 1: so so well the entire pretty much game, but second
- 39:20Speaker 1: half specifically and the third quarter we just dominated them.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I don't have the drive chart in front of me,
- 39:28Speaker 1: but it was like three and out, three and out,
- 39:29Speaker 1: maybe one first down punt the pick like it are
- 39:34Speaker 1: we dominated them. But the one drive we go up
- 39:36Speaker 1: seventeen to fourteen, The one drive that all you guys say,
- 39:39Speaker 1: we just need one stop to get the ball back.
- 39:45Speaker 6: What you at least just went home in the field, gog.
- 39:48Speaker 2: I don't whatever.
- 39:50Speaker 1: We played so well the second half, we weren't even
- 39:53Speaker 1: they weren't moving the ball at all. The one drive
- 39:55Speaker 1: we needed to they put together a methodical drive down
- 39:58Speaker 1: the field score touchdo on to go up twenty one seventeen.
- 40:02Speaker 1: And that's the part that bugs me still. Again, you
- 40:05Speaker 1: expect to win, you play so well, and yeah, you
- 40:08Speaker 1: don't think you're ever gonna shut out like shut out
- 40:10Speaker 1: Ohio State in a half, like you never thought that
- 40:13Speaker 1: was gonna happen.
- 40:13Speaker 2: But we played well enough to do it. We did.
- 40:16Speaker 1: We had such the right game plan and they were
- 40:19Speaker 1: booing their offense Ohio State fans over and over. You
- 40:23Speaker 1: could hear the booze on the TV. We just needed
- 40:26Speaker 1: the one stop and we couldn't do it. So as
- 40:28Speaker 1: well as they played. My mind still gets hung up
- 40:31Speaker 1: on that is, you get that stop defense, you win
- 40:35Speaker 1: us that game. Now, should our defense have to hold
- 40:37Speaker 1: an opponent for fourteen points to win a game?
- 40:39Speaker 6: No?
- 40:39Speaker 1: But we had the opportunity to seal the deal by
- 40:42Speaker 1: stopping them on that last drive there, and we didn't
- 40:45Speaker 1: do it.
- 40:52Speaker 3: My neighbors. Can you hear my neighbors sawing on the podcast?
- 40:55Speaker 4: No, now, Gota, it's really loud over here. I thought
- 41:00Speaker 4: for sure you guys are gonna say something, but no,
- 41:02Speaker 4: I agree, like you said, they played well enough that
- 41:05Speaker 4: there's not a lot to say. But yeah, that last drive,
- 41:08Speaker 4: it's like we just can't get done. I don't know
- 41:11Speaker 4: if Malcolm being hurt and changed it. I don't know
- 41:14Speaker 4: what what was different on that last one, but they
- 41:18Speaker 4: were really good. I mean, Ohio State has like five
- 41:23Speaker 4: star alignment across the board, and we we've manhandled them
- 41:28Speaker 4: the second half.
- 41:31Speaker 2: You know, our linebackers played well. I thought, yeah, I
- 41:34Speaker 2: said Jamarin, Butller is so good.
- 41:37Speaker 1: I thought we had the right strategy of when we
- 41:40Speaker 1: played a lot of man and man coverage again on
- 41:42Speaker 1: the outside like Indiana, and I think that the bold
- 41:46Speaker 1: thing is there is they have five star athletes out there,
- 41:49Speaker 1: and they did exploit us a couple of times, but
- 41:52Speaker 1: we still said we're going to stop the run first,
- 41:54Speaker 1: and I think that's so important in the Big ten,
- 41:57Speaker 1: no matter who you're playing, and we did a damp
- 41:59Speaker 1: good job of that. They have two very very talented backs,
- 42:03Speaker 1: and our front seven did a great job of containing
- 42:07Speaker 1: both Henderson and Judkins.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Any other defensive thoughts.
- 42:13Speaker 5: You controlled the line on defensive and offensive line that
- 42:16Speaker 5: sign I would say, And going in that game, if
- 42:19Speaker 5: you gave me the odds on who would he would
- 42:21Speaker 5: have the better offense defensive line Obraska House State going
- 42:23Speaker 5: to the game at plus five thousand, I would not
- 42:25Speaker 5: take it.
- 42:26Speaker 3: So I agree.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Last thing I want to mention here too again rule
- 42:34Speaker 1: phenomenal communicator has always been. He started to question if
- 42:37Speaker 1: some of those things maybe how are they impacting the players?
- 42:41Speaker 1: And all that said, some good things again this week,
- 42:44Speaker 1: talking just about key mistakes. And then the big thing
- 42:47Speaker 1: here this week that I think came out, which is interesting,
- 42:50Speaker 1: is the world championship mindset, and he talked about how
- 42:53Speaker 1: he thought that was coming or that came to life
- 42:56Speaker 1: here against Ohio State. The other quote, there's no more victories,
- 43:01Speaker 1: but he's very proud in the way that this game went.
- 43:05Speaker 1: He wants to everybody to see the true picture of
- 43:07Speaker 1: what we're building here and it wants to have championship caliber.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Expectations again all quotes that rule saying here, I like it.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I think that's a way to get things hopefully sparked
- 43:20Speaker 1: from this game. It's consistency and sustainability with it, though,
- 43:27Speaker 1: and when you take a setback, those comments look like,
- 43:32Speaker 1: what in the world are you talking about, dude. But
- 43:35Speaker 1: you play well like that, and you have that mindset
- 43:37Speaker 1: week after week, you're going to be in a good
- 43:39Speaker 1: spot to win every week. We did not have that
- 43:41Speaker 1: mindset at all in the Indiana game. Again, back to confusing,
- 43:45Speaker 1: no idea why that happened the way it did. Illinois game,
- 43:48Speaker 1: wasn't there after the Colorado game you felt that, So
- 43:51Speaker 1: it's not. It's not as simple as when you win
- 43:53Speaker 1: or play well that you have that mindset. When you don't,
- 43:55Speaker 1: you don't. But that's what they're building towards is in
- 43:58Speaker 1: the locker room, and he was He said it without
- 44:01Speaker 1: and he knew he could tell the way he was
- 44:03Speaker 1: saying it at the beginning because he like paused several
- 44:05Speaker 1: several times. He didn't want to put things back and
- 44:09Speaker 1: bash the previous coaching staff, so he was very careful
- 44:13Speaker 1: with it and saying that these guys under Frost like
- 44:16Speaker 1: some of these older guys don't know how to win.
- 44:18Speaker 1: But at the same time, he said, we're getting to
- 44:21Speaker 1: the point where these guys need to develop or are
- 44:22Speaker 1: getting to develop a championship mindset in the locker room.
- 44:25Speaker 1: About a game in Indiana game, this game they expected
- 44:28Speaker 1: to win, the whole team did, and we didn't do it.
- 44:32Speaker 1: So that's why he said, he's proud, But there are
- 44:35Speaker 1: still a lot of mistakes that we've talked about on
- 44:37Speaker 1: this podcast. We should have won that game, as weird
- 44:39Speaker 1: as that sound. We should have beat Ohio State. If
- 44:41Speaker 1: you play just a little bit better, make a couple
- 44:43Speaker 1: more plays, and we win that game, and it's a
- 44:46Speaker 1: statement win for Nebraska football at this point in rules tenure.
- 44:50Speaker 2: But we didn't do it.
- 44:51Speaker 1: So I think he just continues to do a tremendous
- 44:54Speaker 1: job of communicating that stuff. A lot less question marks
- 44:58Speaker 1: this week, obviously with the way a game win.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree, Okay.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Dek what you're just staring with a blank face.
- 45:14Speaker 3: He agrees.
- 45:15Speaker 6: I said, I need to say about defense. We'll see
- 45:18Speaker 6: if they back it up.
- 45:19Speaker 5: You don't you don't play, you don't play. Juggernaut offense
- 45:22Speaker 5: is coming up here. We'll say that, Yeah, your rival
- 45:27Speaker 5: just benched their quarterback, so five or five million dollar
- 45:32Speaker 5: quarterback wherever they paid him East benched.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Okay, last thing. Survivor Pool. We're done for college football.
- 45:38Speaker 1: But since we all watch NBA and we thought we
- 45:44Speaker 1: tried something a little bit new here, or we're doing
- 45:46Speaker 1: NBA Survivor Pool. So you're gonna get a pick one
- 45:50Speaker 1: game for the entire week. If they win, you're good.
- 45:57Speaker 1: You can't use the same team twice, just like regular
- 46:00Speaker 1: riverpools will go through Sunday's games, so you can go
- 46:04Speaker 1: from Monday through Sunday.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Dak will start with you. Who do you like? Who
- 46:10Speaker 2: are you taking?
- 46:12Speaker 5: It's it's a pretty big game Friday at six o'clock.
- 46:15Speaker 5: I'm taking the Celtics to meet the Hornets.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Celtics Week one, the right off the back.
- 46:23Speaker 7: Not changing my strategy up a football at all, Austin, I.
- 46:31Speaker 3: Think I'm gonna go with Miami over Detroit tonight.
- 46:40Speaker 6: It's because that d Waite statue, isn't it.
- 46:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why.
- 46:46Speaker 2: I like that. I actually was thinking of doing that.
- 46:48Speaker 1: I'll be a little bit different, same team though against him,
- 46:51Speaker 1: I will take On Wednesday night, I'll take the sixers
- 46:54Speaker 1: at home against Detroit.
- 46:58Speaker 6: Wow, no PG, no embiide.
- 47:02Speaker 2: I think they'll still be okay.
- 47:04Speaker 6: Yeah, Roy's pretty bad.
- 47:08Speaker 2: All right, I'll be it. We'll be back a couple
- 47:10Speaker 2: of days here. U c l A go be great.
- 47:13Speaker 5: Tb R Boomer Hu
