- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
- 0:07Speaker 1: Podcasts episode seventeen. Coming at You an NHL Unscripted Give
- 0:23Speaker 1: it to Us, JD. He Yeah, we got thumb nails.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Seth Jones is our special guest today. What a story
- 0:30Speaker 1: for Jones. He goes from Chicago to Florida now fighting
- 0:33Speaker 1: to perhaps with a Stanley Cup of the Panthers team.
- 0:36Speaker 1: He's got great stories, but his journey including even talking
- 0:39Speaker 1: all sports and now of course his father played in
- 0:40Speaker 1: the NBA. You can talk with Luca, donta trade You're
- 0:43Speaker 1: gonna like Seth Jones a fellow defense with JD talking
- 0:45Speaker 1: about the game. We got lots of good stuff today. Man,
- 0:48Speaker 1: this is the Avalanche right now are rolling. The Blues
- 0:51Speaker 1: are rolling right now, Big rig is getting ready to
- 0:53Speaker 1: say goodbye. There's lots right not coming from the world
- 0:55Speaker 1: of hockey. And plus the little Selle filling sixty. As
- 0:57Speaker 1: George Foreman passes away, I'll tell you strue about being
- 1:00Speaker 1: in the movie Big George Forman plush tails from the road,
- 1:03Speaker 1: Thank you for me. Game a home game here Amazon
- 1:06Speaker 1: Prime Monday Night Hockey is we had the Canucks and
- 1:08Speaker 1: the Devil's a game which Ged was watching on ESPN.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Shout out to Steve Levi and PK. Soo. Man saw
- 1:13Speaker 1: them at the rink. Let's talk, Canucks, heard the.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Call, heard the call. He heard PK's call.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Canucks. Dude up against it. Talking to Rick Talk ahead
- 1:23Speaker 1: of time. You know, they were eight points up on
- 1:25Speaker 1: the Blues coming out of four nations for a walker spot,
- 1:28Speaker 1: and now going into that game, we're five points back.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And talking to Talk as he was telling us, he's like,
- 1:34Speaker 1: you know, there has to be that sense of urgency.
- 1:36Speaker 1: This truly is a must win game. And watching that game, Ged,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Canucks are down. He said, oh my god, and somehow
- 1:41Speaker 1: they pulled out. They win the game in the shootout.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And even though he didn't have a point, every time
- 1:47Speaker 1: Quen he uses on the ice, he's mesmerizing. Number forty
- 1:49Speaker 1: three is so much fun to watch. You as a
- 1:51Speaker 1: defenseman can speak to this. The fact he's a workhorse,
- 1:53Speaker 1: plays twenty five and a half minutes a night, which
- 1:55Speaker 1: is the most in the NHL of any defenseman. He
- 1:57Speaker 1: leads his team in every major category with the exemption
- 2:00Speaker 1: of goals, in which he is fourth, but assist points
- 2:03Speaker 1: minutes twenty two more with any other player on his team.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Could you argue Ken Hughes is as viable to his
- 2:08Speaker 1: team as anyone in the NHL?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah, of course.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I mean he if you're defining the heart and you're
- 2:14Speaker 3: defining exactly what it means to win that he is
- 2:19Speaker 3: up in that category. I don't know if he'll beat
- 2:22Speaker 3: and Nathan McKinnon this year or potentially Kale mccarr, but
- 2:25Speaker 3: there's just levels to the NHL, and there's you know,
- 2:28Speaker 3: we talk about like the comparison between Austin Matthews and
- 2:31Speaker 3: to Connor McDavid and Nathan McKinnon were like, he's an
- 2:34Speaker 3: elite player, but there is like just a small class
- 2:37Speaker 3: that's above everybody. And I kind of put Connor, I
- 2:40Speaker 3: put Nathan McKinnon, I put Cale McCart and I would
- 2:43Speaker 3: put Quinn Hughes in that category because he is so
- 2:47Speaker 3: you said, mesmerizing. It's a perfect word to sum him up.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Every time he touches the puck. It's like he could
- 2:53Speaker 3: take an end to end every shift if he wanted to.
- 2:55Speaker 3: It's just I think he it's almost like he tries
- 2:58Speaker 3: to drag his teammates into it and help him. But
- 3:00Speaker 3: like especially the not only that last game against the Devil,
- 3:04Speaker 3: but the Rangers game before when he was just bringing
- 3:07Speaker 3: it up the ice, trying to get the team back
- 3:09Speaker 3: into the game, and he's so hard to get a
- 3:11Speaker 3: beat on. He's it seems like he might have been
- 3:14Speaker 3: I think he looked better the last two games, but
- 3:16Speaker 3: playing through an injury as well, and he just doesn't
- 3:18Speaker 3: get enough credit for what he does for this team.
- 3:20Speaker 3: And the fact that there is even rumors that they
- 3:22Speaker 3: weren't going to resign him and potentially trade him is
- 3:25Speaker 3: some of the most comical shit I've heard in my life.
- 3:28Speaker 3: But yeah, it's I don't know if they have the
- 3:30Speaker 3: jews to make it. I don't think they do. They're battling,
- 3:35Speaker 3: but it's hard to kind of it's gonna take all
- 3:38Speaker 3: of Quinn Hughes to be getting three four points a
- 3:40Speaker 3: night for him to catch the Blues right now, because
- 3:42Speaker 3: the Blues are rolling.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Could be a catastrophic loss against the Rangers traffic. Let's
- 3:47Speaker 1: try to get could be a catastrophic loss against the Rangers,
- 3:51Speaker 1: which they lost five to to only twelve shots on
- 3:53Speaker 1: goal but clearly weren't able to come through. Let's bring
- 3:56Speaker 1: in tal who was missing an action. Last week tal
- 3:58Speaker 1: when I watched Quinn Hughes again, the word that comes
- 4:00Speaker 1: to mind is elusiveness and just his level of skating,
- 4:03Speaker 1: Like Jad was saying, he can go and a time.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Can you think, with your rich knowledge of history and
- 4:08Speaker 1: thinking of like great skaters, who's the guy that you
- 4:10Speaker 1: think with Queen Hughes in terms of the elusiveness, who's
- 4:12Speaker 1: a player that you can't go at him because he
- 4:14Speaker 1: goes around you.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Let's see. I want to see if you get it. Tell.
- 4:18Speaker 4: I feel like the best comps are contemporary players, Like
- 4:21Speaker 4: we're not used to seeing guys like this, like mccarr
- 4:23Speaker 4: is now the standard. We never saw a guy like
- 4:25Speaker 4: that before, and now we have Lane Hudson and other
- 4:28Speaker 4: younger guys coming into the league whuld do similar things.
- 4:30Speaker 4: For me, this seems like a more recent phenomenon where
- 4:33Speaker 4: you just let you know your your d man, just.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Carry the play all game long.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I'm JD's looking at me like I should be thinking
- 4:40Speaker 4: of someone, So I'm wondering who that would be.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I mean, he's yeah, I was about to give you
- 4:49Speaker 3: that Ah, well done, Avy, I wasn't gonna get that one.
- 4:52Speaker 4: I was trying to go back further, and I'm thinking, like,
- 4:54Speaker 4: who are the talks ten twenty years? Yeah, well Bobby Or,
- 4:58Speaker 4: I mean, we can talk about Bobby Orr. You know,
- 5:00Speaker 4: obviously I didn't think we would go back that far,
- 5:02Speaker 4: but yeah, I know Paul Coffee is you know, that's
- 5:05Speaker 4: the that's kind of what we're seeing.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Although I feel like.
- 5:07Speaker 4: These guys now, you know, Paul Coffee's a little bit
- 5:11Speaker 4: before my time, but I feel like the guys are
- 5:12Speaker 4: seeing now, they're like Jad was saying, they're bringing their
- 5:15Speaker 4: team into it. They're not just going and to end,
- 5:17Speaker 4: you know, rushing back and forth. They're they're slowing down
- 5:20Speaker 4: the play. They're looking for the open man. They're they're creating.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Plays for other guys.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Where I feel like every Bobby Orr or Paul Coffee
- 5:27Speaker 4: replay or highlight we you see was them doing it
- 5:29Speaker 4: all by themselves. These guys are I mean, they're playing
- 5:31Speaker 4: chess and everyone else is playing checkers.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Love that analogy A thought on the Devil's JD because
- 5:37Speaker 1: this was fascinating. Sheldon Keef sot the other the day
- 5:40Speaker 1: he calls it Covid Sevic. I'm still laughing just the
- 5:44Speaker 1: way with d Covi se basically, you know, we have
- 5:45Speaker 1: to have like more urgency. It was it would be
- 5:47Speaker 1: better if he played better, like he just buries him.
- 5:49Speaker 1: So the great Andy Patrillo, who you work with an
- 5:51Speaker 1: HL Coast to Ghost part of our coverage as well.
- 5:52Speaker 1: We're talking to Sheldon Keith the morning Scrub and someone
- 5:54Speaker 1: has to kind of bring it up. So Andy saysn't
- 5:56Speaker 1: it very light hearted?
- 5:56Speaker 2: Men?
- 5:57Speaker 1: I're like, hey, so kind of a fun press conce
- 5:58Speaker 1: the the day. And Sheldon Key's point was, listen, I
- 6:00Speaker 1: just watched him because before I gave that press coss,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I just watched the compari shift in which he was
- 6:06Speaker 1: the main reason the goal was allowed. So it was
- 6:07Speaker 1: a little salty, like, yeah, was it trying to make
- 6:09Speaker 1: a point? Yeah, with the great Steve Coullius, one of
- 6:12Speaker 1: my old colleagues here at NHL Network Radio, just burying
- 6:15Speaker 1: Sheldon Keef.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And his point was this, you can't kill out your stars.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You don't cant out Mitch mar you don't call out
- 6:23Speaker 1: Austin Matthews there with Toronto. You go to the devil's
- 6:25Speaker 1: in you.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Colin coma savage, covid sevag comes so much more, and
- 6:28Speaker 2: you're calling him out.
- 6:30Speaker 1: His point of sention was that, like, that's the guy
- 6:32Speaker 1: you're gonna pick on. Sheldon Keef taken heat for that.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't.
- 6:37Speaker 3: You can't arrow dirty laundry, and you can't speak from
- 6:40Speaker 3: a place of emotion, especially as a coach like you
- 6:43Speaker 3: just can't. And it's just it's one of those things
- 6:46Speaker 3: that I just don't think it's in poor taste. I
- 6:51Speaker 3: don't like it, especially if Jonathan Cove said you when
- 6:53Speaker 3: you listen to his comments, he's just answering a question,
- 6:57Speaker 3: being like, hey, yeah, we got to like have a
- 6:59Speaker 3: good mentality. Of course he's not. Of course he's probably
- 7:02Speaker 3: critical of his own game. But you can't do that
- 7:05Speaker 3: because then now Covid Sevig sees it. Now you just
- 7:08Speaker 3: add Field to the fire. And Sheldon keeps kind of
- 7:10Speaker 3: been known in the past. You see him on the bench,
- 7:12Speaker 3: he's very animated. He's always kind of making a face,
- 7:14Speaker 3: he's rolling his eyes if things aren't going right. And
- 7:16Speaker 3: in the media sometimes he'll say a comment and then
- 7:18Speaker 3: it's tough to walk it back, like oh, yeah, I
- 7:20Speaker 3: just watched the game. Well now you're showing me as
- 7:22Speaker 3: a coach that you make a lot of decisions based
- 7:25Speaker 3: on emotions. So when you're behind the bench, what are
- 7:28Speaker 3: you doing with these emotions? And are you letting your
- 7:32Speaker 3: emotions get the best of you?
- 7:34Speaker 1: No question about it. The Devil's lose that game, and
- 7:36Speaker 1: I feel like they're in trouble. They're going to make
- 7:38Speaker 1: the playoffs and all likely the third place on the metro.
- 7:40Speaker 1: But it's amazing if you look at their season. They
- 7:42Speaker 1: got that great start, they have not been the team
- 7:44Speaker 1: since then, and now they're clearly being a little bit
- 7:47Speaker 1: awry as the head of the playoffs. Obviously missing Jack
- 7:49Speaker 1: Hughes hurts. I'm not making excuses, but there's always so
- 7:52Speaker 1: much that Nico, Heastri, Etceter can do. Timo Wyre did
- 7:54Speaker 1: have a couple goals in that game to play well.
- 7:55Speaker 1: All right. Speaking of playing well, Avalanche rolling eleven to
- 7:59Speaker 1: one and won their last thirteen games. Amazon Prime will
- 8:01Speaker 1: be in Denver, by the way on Monday. Cannot wag
- 8:03Speaker 1: flames and ABA hopefully ill got to sit down mccannon
- 8:06Speaker 1: or mccarr will see this is kind of crazy. Do
- 8:09Speaker 1: we look at all the work they've done And you
- 8:10Speaker 1: and I were talking off their and you said, yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 1: good luck. Stop in the aves. As far as the
- 8:13Speaker 1: Stanley Cup this season, the crease right now is Mackenzie Blackwin,
- 8:16Speaker 1: Scott Wedgewood, Martin Nachius, brock Nelson, Charlie Coyle, Jack Drury,
- 8:20Speaker 1: Jimmy v c Ryan lingren Eric Johnson and return. They've
- 8:23Speaker 1: given up much celebrated Miko Ranton and Casey Millstatt, Calvin
- 8:26Speaker 1: de Haan, prospects, cal Ritchie and Nikolai Kavalenko, sam Gerrard
- 8:31Speaker 1: and Josh Manson both coming back from injury, and now
- 8:33Speaker 1: the captain Gabrielle Landiskog has been a regular participant in
- 8:36Speaker 1: practice for the last few days. I could just see
- 8:39Speaker 1: McKennon mccarr and argue that the Avalanche are a favorite,
- 8:42Speaker 1: as you and I have said before. Also Avalanche Stars
- 8:45Speaker 1: are going to be an incredible matchup. Because I know
- 8:47Speaker 1: you're feeling the ass but I might go ahead and
- 8:49Speaker 1: zag and say I'll pick the Stars in that match now,
- 8:51Speaker 1: Andrew the other day's shut out, I love Ranton On,
- 8:53Speaker 1: this team go to the next level. But you're saying nothing
- 8:55Speaker 1: stopping the Avalanche right now. You're and by the way,
- 8:58Speaker 1: Ball Arena, they're unbeaten ten ten in a road by one.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Uh they're just on a different level right now. And
- 9:04Speaker 3: and you know, GM McFarland does not get enough credit.
- 9:08Speaker 3: You know, I think we were all a little bit like,
- 9:10Speaker 3: why are they trade Rand? And I mean he had
- 9:11Speaker 3: a plan and he stuck to it, and me and
- 9:14Speaker 3: Tow were talking before we started recording that I don't
- 9:17Speaker 3: know in recent memory or even where you can go
- 9:20Speaker 3: back to in time of a GM retooling a team
- 9:24Speaker 3: this early in a season and having it work out
- 9:27Speaker 3: the way it's worked out, Like they just kind of
- 9:29Speaker 3: came in first ten games of the season and said, no,
- 9:32Speaker 3: we're good, let's change. Just let's get rolling, all right,
- 9:36Speaker 3: complete rehaul, retool of this team. And look at what
- 9:39Speaker 3: it's done. It's just been They've just exploded. They've just
- 9:42Speaker 3: went to another Martin Nchis has more points than Migo
- 9:45Speaker 3: Rannon right now, Like that's that's crazy coming from everybody.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Was kind of like Marty Nhs doesn't really fit in Carolina.
- 9:52Speaker 3: He has been dynamic, he has been incredible, He has
- 9:54Speaker 3: been everything that they could hope for.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it certainly has been amazing. It's worked out because
- 9:59Speaker 1: you know that trade and to go okay, are the
- 10:01Speaker 1: avalanched giving up. Well, no, like Rantley just realized his
- 10:03Speaker 1: contract isn't gonna work in terms of the cap, he's
- 10:05Speaker 1: gonna be getting one hundred million dollars, which he alus's
- 10:08Speaker 1: now getting from the Dallas Stars. Don't want to get
- 10:09Speaker 1: up there with the Avalanche. But it's interesting, do you
- 10:11Speaker 1: think Landeskog? I mean, is he coming back to the
- 10:14Speaker 1: playoffs or what?
- 10:16Speaker 2: I man, You're not. You're not.
- 10:19Speaker 3: There's no way you're creating a documentary about yourself, selling
- 10:26Speaker 3: it per tal and then having it be released this
- 10:30Speaker 3: season where you're coming back to skate with the team.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I've heard from a couple inside sources that he had
- 10:36Speaker 3: some setbacks, but he's he is trending in a direction
- 10:40Speaker 3: and I foresee him coming back into the playoffs. I think,
- 10:46Speaker 3: I just why would you do it? And I watched
- 10:49Speaker 3: a couple of those practices that they aired. You know
- 10:51Speaker 3: there he looks very good, he looks very fast, he
- 10:55Speaker 3: looks very explosive. And now Tal like we're kind of
- 10:58Speaker 3: talking about this, especially with in terms of rights and
- 11:00Speaker 3: everything like that, this is probably a long process for
- 11:03Speaker 3: him to sell them. So he's already known for a
- 11:06Speaker 3: while that he's coming back, and these are all pre recorded,
- 11:09Speaker 3: so it's kind of like I think it's just there's
- 11:13Speaker 3: a crescendo coming, there's a climax coming, and it's going
- 11:16Speaker 3: to be him playing in the playoffs. And I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 3: we were just talking about it too before, Like, I
- 11:22Speaker 3: don't see a world in which just having Landeskog on
- 11:25Speaker 3: the bench can't benefit your team, even if he's playing
- 11:28Speaker 3: four or five minutes a night and just being physical.
- 11:30Speaker 3: He's a leader, he's he knows what he's doing. He's
- 11:33Speaker 3: a he's a there's guys that can do it. I
- 11:35Speaker 3: know everybody says two years off, there's guys that can't
- 11:38Speaker 3: do it. Like I probably couldn't come back and just
- 11:41Speaker 3: play and be super effective. I could probably be somewhat effective.
- 11:44Speaker 3: But guys like him that have a pedigree, winning pedigree,
- 11:47Speaker 3: they know how to play the game. They're special players.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Like we forget because it's been a while since he's
- 11:52Speaker 3: been back in the league, but he is very good
- 11:56Speaker 3: and he understands how to play the game. He's got
- 11:58Speaker 3: a very high hockey IQ. Plays penalty killed, plays power play,
- 12:01Speaker 3: and I just don't see a world in which he
- 12:03Speaker 3: doesn't come back and doesn't be impactful for this team.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Tell well, yeah, just like you said, even if he's
- 12:09Speaker 4: getting a few minutes a game on the fourth line,
- 12:11Speaker 4: think about the lift that they're getting from having their
- 12:13Speaker 4: captain back and just a guy who plays like Landescog,
- 12:16Speaker 4: so physical, so assertive on the ice, and the last
- 12:20Speaker 4: time he played, he lifted the Stanley Cup. I mean,
- 12:23Speaker 4: it all feels to me like it's ready to culminate
- 12:27Speaker 4: in the playoffs. And you mentioned the doc. I've watched
- 12:29Speaker 4: a bit of it. I mean, there's clearly a media
- 12:32Speaker 4: strategy here from Landiscog and his team, whether it's his agent,
- 12:36Speaker 4: I don't know if he has like a media team
- 12:38Speaker 4: that he works with, but yeah, well he clearly does.
- 12:42Speaker 2: On this doc.
- 12:43Speaker 4: But I don't know if they were working on stuff
- 12:45Speaker 4: before this happened. But and I mentioned when we were
- 12:47Speaker 4: talking about it's not like the NHL approached him and said, hey,
- 12:50Speaker 4: are you interested in producing a doc about your rehab
- 12:54Speaker 4: and will produce it with you, Like this was something
- 12:56Speaker 4: that was clearly produced internally. His team got together, you know,
- 13:01Speaker 4: maybe even last summer. Who knows when this all started,
- 13:04Speaker 4: but they got together and said, okay, let's start getting
- 13:06Speaker 4: some footage. Let's start filming the rehab. Let's start sitting
- 13:10Speaker 4: you know, Landeskog down for some interviews and walking us
- 13:12Speaker 4: through the whole process this. There's this clearly a very
- 13:17Speaker 4: specific media strategy in mind, and it's hard to imagine
- 13:21Speaker 4: that they would do that and put all this together
- 13:24Speaker 4: and make the deal with with Turner and Amazon and
- 13:27Speaker 4: make sure that the whole world is seeing this without
- 13:30Speaker 4: an idea that he it culminates with the big finale,
- 13:35Speaker 4: the big third act, you know, the big reveal at
- 13:37Speaker 4: the end where he's back on the ice. I mean,
- 13:40Speaker 4: it's it's it's a great script. Whoever's writing the script
- 13:43Speaker 4: with team Landeskog is doing a pretty good job.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Adam, what do you think, like, why would you, you know,
- 13:49Speaker 3: why would they have this documentary come out if not
- 13:52Speaker 3: for the to what tow's point, beautifully beautifully put point.
- 13:55Speaker 3: He's he's so very charismatic in the words that he
- 13:58Speaker 3: wow and and says.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Bury him earlier and you're giving him his flowers.
- 14:02Speaker 3: But yeah, but I like to break him down to
- 14:04Speaker 3: build them up. That's the way we get him, and
- 14:06Speaker 3: that's where we get him. We've we've established our method
- 14:09Speaker 3: add non of how we do it we are hammer
- 14:11Speaker 3: and nails, baby, hammer and nails, right, yeah, one nails, yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 3: hammered to thumbnails. Now, but what do you think? I
- 14:18Speaker 3: don't think you're creating a documentary without you hoping or knowing,
- 14:24Speaker 3: because a lot of this is pre recorded that you're
- 14:25Speaker 3: going to come back one hundred percent.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I mean you're practicing right now in late March of
- 14:29Speaker 1: the playoffs for a few weeks away. I couldn't imagine
- 14:31Speaker 1: Planetskuck does not come back it. As Tale said, it
- 14:33Speaker 1: feels that script is being written and it could be
- 14:35Speaker 1: fasting how this goes again. I'll be there in Denver
- 14:37Speaker 1: on Monday. I'll ask him. I'll go wrapup to him. Okay,
- 14:39Speaker 1: is lantuskog around like I'm gonna just a few minutes.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Hopefully we'll have Joe Sakic on set as well. Cannot wait,
- 14:44Speaker 1: Joe Sakic, ew Sackic. As Bob Cole said back in
- 14:48Speaker 1: two thousand and two, all right, let me tell the
- 14:49Speaker 1: Saint Louis Blues what a stir this has been. Man
- 14:52Speaker 1: Monty fired by the Bruns November nineteenth, It gets hired
- 14:54Speaker 1: by the Blues five days later. It's all good, right,
- 14:56Speaker 1: He's already assistant there it happens. I'm tired of Boston
- 14:58Speaker 1: all good thirteen two and two. Since the four rations,
- 15:02Speaker 1: they've now won seven games in a row. That the
- 15:04Speaker 1: second Walkard spot in the West. Bruins, by the way,
- 15:07Speaker 1: I have lost six in row entering Wednesday's action, they probably
- 15:09Speaker 1: gonna miss the playoffs for the first time to twenty sixteen.
- 15:12Speaker 1: So good for Monty as he's having the good vibes
- 15:14Speaker 1: right now, and for Saint Louis. The notable Blues right now,
- 15:17Speaker 1: Jordan Cairou has been great, Dylan Holloway as well, and
- 15:20Speaker 1: Robert Thomas. These three right now JD scorching for a
- 15:23Speaker 1: Blues team and even a week ago when you looked
- 15:25Speaker 1: at it, Sorry, who do you handicap this? I'm like
- 15:27Speaker 1: you tossed till a year away. Flames don't have any offense.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Ave Lott Cadree sick goal last night, a couple of goals.
- 15:32Speaker 1: They came back and played overtime.
- 15:33Speaker 2: It was crazy.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Got another thirty goal season. Vancouver has discussed bad loss
- 15:37Speaker 1: of the time, but the Blues. The Blues are the
- 15:39Speaker 1: best schedule. Of their last thirteen games, ten were against
- 15:42Speaker 1: non playoff teams, three against the Predators. But a thought
- 15:44Speaker 1: on those three guys jd Cairou, Holloway, Thomas leading the way.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Well, you look at the youth movement there and these
- 15:52Speaker 3: this is gonna be a team that's going to be
- 15:54Speaker 3: very good for a long time. Just you know, so
- 15:56Speaker 3: much credit to Doug Armstrom going offer shooting, Philip Broberg
- 16:00Speaker 3: and Dylan Holloway because we.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Didn't even mention him. They're going to be around for
- 16:03Speaker 2: a long time.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Robert Thomas is a very underrated tudred foot player, and
- 16:07Speaker 3: Jordan kiro is just so.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Explosive game breaker. You need those.
- 16:11Speaker 3: But it's it's a team that has so much belief
- 16:14Speaker 3: and you look at Jim Montgomery. How the hell did
- 16:15Speaker 3: they let this guy go from Boston? Just what a
- 16:19Speaker 3: miss after miss by Don Sweeney and Bosson. Just a
- 16:22Speaker 3: brutal season from a GM I think in all respects
- 16:25Speaker 3: like it just sometimes doesn't go your way, to the
- 16:28Speaker 3: Marshan trade, to everything, it's just been awful decisions and
- 16:31Speaker 3: typically he does the right thing. So this has been
- 16:34Speaker 3: a huge miss on his season. But all the more
- 16:36Speaker 3: reason and more power to Doug arms from swinging for
- 16:38Speaker 3: the fences and this team believes they got a nice
- 16:41Speaker 3: mix of veterans on the back end. They have great goaltending,
- 16:44Speaker 3: they have a gamer, a proven winner in Jordan Binnington.
- 16:47Speaker 2: And then you look at that line, they have piss too.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I like it. They got a little piss.
- 16:51Speaker 3: They got a couple of piss jugs there. You know
- 16:53Speaker 3: Brayden Schen, you got Nathan Walker, you got Tucker on
- 16:56Speaker 3: the back end. It's just these guys. Dylan Halways got
- 17:00Speaker 3: some bite to him too. But these guys are just
- 17:02Speaker 3: playing so well together. They love together. You could see
- 17:06Speaker 3: the fun they're having and it's very reminiscent of the
- 17:08Speaker 3: twenty nineteen Blues that we thought they.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Were done in the wall at the right time.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Second, here they come on there, goddamn horse, let's ride bitch.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Well it's a great story, but I don't know how
- 17:18Speaker 1: dangerous they are necessarily because you have this stretch where
- 17:22Speaker 1: you go well, because they're playing well. I look at
- 17:24Speaker 1: this momentum, the streakiness. But I'm like, oultimately, when I
- 17:26Speaker 1: look at the lines of the death of Cil against Winnipeg,
- 17:28Speaker 1: I'm not called the Blues to beat the Jets. I
- 17:30Speaker 1: would be genuinely surprised. But no, unless how about craps
- 17:32Speaker 1: about as he has in the past. I guess. But
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'm like certain teams, I go, yeah, they're playing we momentum.
- 17:37Speaker 1: They can be streaky, they can do something. The Blues
- 17:39Speaker 1: I think are a great story. I don't necessarily see
- 17:41Speaker 1: them causing chaos. Can playoff time. They're doing great against
- 17:43Speaker 1: inferior opposition. I think when the Gold gets tough, I
- 17:45Speaker 1: don't I like dangerous.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I like dangerous youth. I always think it'll give somebody.
- 17:50Speaker 3: But here's the thing, let's let's let's put a bow
- 17:53Speaker 3: on this one. But Saint Louis keeps winning, Vancouver's scrounging
- 17:57Speaker 3: and battling, Minnesota wild faltering a little bit, making me
- 18:01Speaker 3: nervous because I think they thought they had a cushion
- 18:03Speaker 3: and then all of a sudd sudden, the Blues just
- 18:05Speaker 3: go all world and then everybody's chasing. Let's not forget
- 18:08Speaker 3: Calgary flames too. Like these guys you talked about, Nazam Kadri,
- 18:11Speaker 3: what amazing back to back overtime winners. But like the Minnesota,
- 18:15Speaker 3: while I gotta be careful here because I know they
- 18:17Speaker 3: have a lot of injuries, but they got to get
- 18:19Speaker 3: some points. We talked about last week that I find
- 18:22Speaker 3: ninety six points is the is kind of the is
- 18:25Speaker 3: the cutoff. That's where the playoffs the last wildcard spot
- 18:28Speaker 3: is about ninety six points. They're at eighty five right now.
- 18:31Speaker 3: That's eleven points, about five six wins they're playing of
- 18:35Speaker 3: the two of the teams in their last run of
- 18:38Speaker 3: games are against non playoff teams. The rest are playoff
- 18:40Speaker 3: teams and teams chasing them. It's gonna be tough sledding
- 18:43Speaker 3: and this would be an epic collapse.
- 18:47Speaker 1: But but all people, I hadn't even thought about it.
- 18:48Speaker 1: You're right, so like, no one's even said this could be.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I kind of tweeted that. I tweeted the last time.
- 18:54Speaker 3: I was like, should Minnesota Wild? Should they be worried
- 18:57Speaker 3: in the fans? And I got about five six Wild
- 19:00Speaker 3: fans being like, yep, we'll.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Get Mark Parrish script. I got to work with them
- 19:05Speaker 1: a couple weeks ago. Oh and Perry a great guy.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Loves like to get him fired up.
- 19:10Speaker 1: No, no question about it, one thought here. Because of course,
- 19:12Speaker 1: the great chase continues. Ovechkins Curricle eight eighty nine Tuesday
- 19:16Speaker 1: against the Jets. Historically against the Jets Slash Thrasters organization.
- 19:20Speaker 1: He's always had success. He's six back now, breaking Wayne
- 19:23Speaker 1: Gretzky's all time goals record last game of the season
- 19:26Speaker 1: April seventeenth against the Penguins. If Obie breaks the record
- 19:30Speaker 1: that night, do you think Crossby would come out for
- 19:31Speaker 1: the ceremony as well? Along with Bretzky and Gary Bettman
- 19:34Speaker 1: also in the building.
- 19:36Speaker 3: He's six away and he's got what twelve games? Yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 3: I mean for it's gonna go white down the wire.
- 19:44Speaker 3: I don't know, that's that's whatever he's saying. That's what
- 19:46Speaker 3: we're all saying on the network. We're like, that's hard
- 19:48Speaker 3: for a good player to do that. Six and twelve,
- 19:50Speaker 3: and like we're kind of like, yeah, he's doing it.
- 19:52Speaker 2: It's done. Uh.
- 19:53Speaker 3: You know, we were able to, you know, snag the
- 19:55Speaker 3: Dylan Stroman interview, and he mentioned it in the interviews.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Like eleven games left to be specific.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Thanks eleven. Sorry.
- 20:01Speaker 3: We're like, he we hope he gets it this year,
- 20:03Speaker 3: but we have a holy two left. I think it'll
- 20:07Speaker 3: be next year. I was kind of you know, I
- 20:10Speaker 3: think it will, but you know, we're going with the
- 20:12Speaker 3: NHL Network April fifth, we're going DC. We're going to
- 20:16Speaker 3: d C to do like an NHL now nice and
- 20:19Speaker 3: hopefully he's like around three or you know, three or four.
- 20:22Speaker 3: But uh yeah, I think it's it's amazing. It would
- 20:25Speaker 3: be awesome if it's in Pittsburgh. I think we all
- 20:27Speaker 3: wanted to be in Pittsburgh against sid you know, Gretzky
- 20:30Speaker 3: Betman in there from his office, like his last goalie
- 20:33Speaker 3: scored from his office is like that's where I think
- 20:36Speaker 3: everybody wants to see that finish. It's just him tickling
- 20:39Speaker 3: the goddamn rafters and just blowing it through the net
- 20:42Speaker 3: and then just throwing a stick down and doing the
- 20:45Speaker 3: the heat stick when you know when he did.
- 20:47Speaker 2: It back in the day.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Would be the best selly then take off his helmet,
- 20:51Speaker 3: rip his jersey off, get butt naked on the ice
- 20:53Speaker 3: and hang on, I'm not doing and give the finger,
- 20:58Speaker 3: just say I'm retired Russia Gune and then just lee.
- 21:01Speaker 2: It would be just the best.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Seth Jones are coming up after this. He's now remember
- 21:04Speaker 1: the Florida Panthers pushing towards the Stanley Cup. We'll ask
- 21:06Speaker 1: about his career and playing with the Cats. Edyburd along
- 21:09Speaker 1: on the ice that's next. Our special guest today on Unscripted.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Drafted fourth o'verroall by the Nashville Petitors in twenty thirteen.
- 21:27Speaker 1: He is a four time All Star. Part one most
- 21:30Speaker 1: significant transactions this season heading into the trade deadline, he
- 21:33Speaker 1: was acquired by the defending champion in Florida Panthers. What
- 21:36Speaker 1: a pickup he's been for them. And welcome to South Florida,
- 21:38Speaker 1: Seth Jones. Welcome to Unscripted, Seth. Great to see him, man,
- 21:41Speaker 1: thank you so much for joining us. First and foremost,
- 21:43Speaker 1: how have you been acclimated so far after making this
- 21:46Speaker 1: rather important move here over to Florida.
- 21:48Speaker 6: Yeah, it's been great so far, and it all happened quick. Obviously,
- 21:51Speaker 6: when you get traded in this season, it's a whole
- 21:53Speaker 6: lot different than being traded in the off season. There's
- 21:56Speaker 6: not much time to really think about it and process it.
- 21:58Speaker 6: Right away, you're on a flight. The next day, you're
- 22:00Speaker 6: playing one or two days later for a new team
- 22:03Speaker 6: with a new system, new players, So just trying to
- 22:06Speaker 6: step in. Just play my game right away, whether it's
- 22:09Speaker 6: power play, penalty, kill, five on five, just be solid.
- 22:12Speaker 7: And I kind of learned the system on the fly.
- 22:14Speaker 6: I've been doing a lot of video with the coaches recently,
- 22:17Speaker 6: obviously this first couple of weeks, trying to get everything down.
- 22:21Speaker 6: But I feel decent right now.
- 22:23Speaker 3: What's kind of been the best thing and toughest thing
- 22:26Speaker 3: mindset wise, because you know, you go from Chicago, you
- 22:28Speaker 3: guys are rebuilding and everybody knows the situation there, and
- 22:31Speaker 3: then you're going to a Cup contender and it's kind
- 22:33Speaker 3: of like, not that the games don't matter in Chicago,
- 22:36Speaker 3: but it's a little bit different vibe before the game,
- 22:38Speaker 3: and then you come here and it's like your pedal
- 22:40Speaker 3: to the metal, Like how was that for you?
- 22:42Speaker 2: Mindset wise?
- 22:45Speaker 7: Yeah, it's definitely different.
- 22:47Speaker 6: You know, not that we weren't trying to win in Chicago,
- 22:49Speaker 6: because we definitely were, but we're it's definitely, i think, organizationally,
- 22:53Speaker 6: a different time frame and where where they wanted to
- 22:58Speaker 6: win or what their goals were as an organization, and
- 23:01Speaker 6: nothing against Chicago, you know, they were, you know they
- 23:05Speaker 6: have they're kind of in the rebuild stage. Like you said,
- 23:08Speaker 6: they're more about development right now. And I think, you know,
- 23:12Speaker 6: when I got traded here, it's great that you know,
- 23:15Speaker 6: they're in more of a win now. Mode where they're
- 23:17Speaker 6: using assets, they're using picks to make the team better
- 23:20Speaker 6: at deadlines and trying to go all in. So definitely
- 23:24Speaker 6: have different mindset, like you mentioned, whether it's preparation before
- 23:26Speaker 6: the game, little things like that, where every single game
- 23:30Speaker 6: does matter. You know, we're sitting at the top of
- 23:32Speaker 6: the standings right now and we want to keep that
- 23:34Speaker 6: and every play matters, every game matters.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Chicago's obviously in a different situation right now. Before we
- 23:40Speaker 1: flip it to floor, I do want to ask you
- 23:41Speaker 1: one thing with the Blackhawks set and watching Connor, but Dart,
- 23:44Speaker 1: you know, coming into the league with that kind of
- 23:46Speaker 1: feign affair, what do you make of the way that
- 23:47Speaker 1: Connor has handled himself and certainly all the hype around him.
- 23:51Speaker 7: I mean, Connor is a very mature kid.
- 23:54Speaker 6: He got the weight of the world on his shoulders
- 23:57Speaker 6: from day one, you know, even before the draft happened,
- 24:01Speaker 6: before he was drafted to Chicago. He feels that pressure
- 24:05Speaker 6: every day. He feels the need to win and you know,
- 24:08Speaker 6: kind of put the organization on his back, so to speak.
- 24:11Speaker 6: And it's a lot for an eighteen nineteen year old
- 24:13Speaker 6: to do that, but he handles it very well. Handled
- 24:17Speaker 6: the media very well every day. He's one of the
- 24:19Speaker 6: hardest workers I've seen, first one of the rink, last
- 24:21Speaker 6: one off the ice, constantly does the little things, works
- 24:25Speaker 6: on his face sox every day. So you know, he's
- 24:28Speaker 6: a special player. He's going to be a special player
- 24:31Speaker 6: in this league for a long time. And I know
- 24:34Speaker 6: that he wants to continue to get better every year
- 24:37Speaker 6: and help drive that team to be a playoff contender again.
- 24:42Speaker 3: You know, coming into this Panthers team and you know
- 24:44Speaker 3: you're a veteran now and a leader, and you know,
- 24:48Speaker 3: coming into the league with the Nashville Predators, you know
- 24:51Speaker 3: you had probably one of the great leaders of all
- 24:53Speaker 3: time and Shae Weber, Like, what did you learn from
- 24:55Speaker 3: him that you've kind of taken with you throughout your career.
- 24:59Speaker 7: Yeah, Shaye was an awesome leader.
- 25:00Speaker 6: I lived with Shae the first six months of my
- 25:02Speaker 6: rookie season, through camp through the first few months of
- 25:06Speaker 6: the season, and I think just the way he handle
- 25:09Speaker 6: his business every day.
- 25:09Speaker 7: He wasn't the biggest talker.
- 25:11Speaker 6: He wasn't in the locker room all the time, you know,
- 25:13Speaker 6: every single intermission, art, every single pregame, you know, being
- 25:16Speaker 6: super vocal. But when you stepped on the ice, you
- 25:19Speaker 6: understood it was all business. He understood he was going
- 25:21Speaker 6: to give one hundred percent effort and lead by example,
- 25:23Speaker 6: and that's what he did day in and day out,
- 25:25Speaker 6: whether it was practice or the game or an off day,
- 25:30Speaker 6: you know, doing the proper things to maintain his level
- 25:33Speaker 6: of energy throughout a season. So I definitely took a
- 25:36Speaker 6: lot of those things with me. I'm not the most
- 25:38Speaker 6: vocal person in the locker room, and never really have been.
- 25:42Speaker 6: You know, I think everyone's different when it comes to that,
- 25:44Speaker 6: But I think work ethic is the most important thing,
- 25:47Speaker 6: and I think that can translate in the locker room
- 25:50Speaker 6: fairly easily.
- 25:51Speaker 3: You gotta give me a good you gotta give me
- 25:52Speaker 3: a good Shade Weber story early on, like, because everybody
- 25:55Speaker 3: sees him as just like the mean mug. And you know,
- 25:58Speaker 3: he slashed me once when I was in Arizona, and
- 26:01Speaker 3: I thought he took my leg off, and I was
- 26:03Speaker 3: the scariest human alive. There's got to be an endearing,
- 26:06Speaker 3: funny story you got of him, especially living with him.
- 26:09Speaker 6: Oh man, the story I have a webs is I
- 26:13Speaker 6: was actually at the rink on an in the middle
- 26:16Speaker 6: of summer and we're doing one timers. I'm nineteen years old,
- 26:21Speaker 6: and you know, I'm probably shooting like eighty miles pro
- 26:23Speaker 6: one time from the side, and we're shooting him, and
- 26:26Speaker 6: then you know there's no going in net. And this
- 26:29Speaker 6: guy is probably he's usually like a one to twenty
- 26:31Speaker 6: five flex. I think he's got the harder shot I've
- 26:33Speaker 6: ever seen. I mean, it comes off different, it sounds different.
- 26:37Speaker 6: And there was one puck that missed the net and
- 26:40Speaker 6: no one knew where it went. It didn't ring around
- 26:42Speaker 6: the wall, and I went over and there's a hole
- 26:45Speaker 6: in the boards, and you put a damn hole on
- 26:49Speaker 6: the boards.
- 26:52Speaker 7: I think I ended up tweeting it.
- 26:54Speaker 6: TSN picked it up in a couple other people, but
- 26:57Speaker 6: it was I've never seen that before. That was the
- 26:58Speaker 6: only time I've ever seen someone put a puck through
- 27:00Speaker 6: the boards from the top of the circle.
- 27:03Speaker 7: And I mean he didn't need a screen from there
- 27:06Speaker 7: on the top. He never did it was hitting the
- 27:08Speaker 7: goalie or or was going on.
- 27:12Speaker 2: As he wound up of the way.
- 27:14Speaker 6: Patrick Hornk was actually a net front guy for those
- 27:16Speaker 6: first few years, and he was one of the best
- 27:20Speaker 6: net friend guys I played with. But he would be
- 27:21Speaker 6: diving across the net trying to screen.
- 27:24Speaker 7: For him, and I'm like, man, you don't need to
- 27:25Speaker 7: do that. He's gonna break your arm.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Not just reputations, Shaye Weber and that amazing shot. I
- 27:32Speaker 1: want to ask you, speaking of guys who are verbal
- 27:34Speaker 1: and our vocal Brad Marshan, how shocking was it to
- 27:37Speaker 1: have him now on the team coming over the Boston Ruins.
- 27:40Speaker 7: Yeah, that was big.
- 27:42Speaker 6: I think we were just sitting in the locker room
- 27:43Speaker 6: and we saw that obviously on on the screen. And
- 27:46Speaker 6: he's definitely a personality. I don't know Marchi's too well.
- 27:49Speaker 6: You know, obviously I played against him or whatever, and
- 27:52Speaker 6: you know maybe some All Star games, you know, been
- 27:54Speaker 6: in the same room as him a couple of times.
- 27:56Speaker 6: But he's definitely a character. He came in, he's in
- 27:59Speaker 6: the group try right away, chirping guys. Just his attitude,
- 28:03Speaker 6: his hisn G brings to the rink has been awesome.
- 28:06Speaker 6: Hopefully he can step into the line up here pretty
- 28:08Speaker 6: soon and start playing too.
- 28:10Speaker 3: It's like bru It's like he's I could just imagine
- 28:13Speaker 3: him Bennett and Kit Chuck. It's going to be like,
- 28:15Speaker 3: you know, probably the love fighting fighting each other and
- 28:17Speaker 3: stuff like that. But I mean you you grew up
- 28:20Speaker 3: kind of in that respect with your brothers and in
- 28:23Speaker 3: a sports household with your dad, but you know you
- 28:26Speaker 3: chose hockey. Your dad was basketball and you chose hockey.
- 28:28Speaker 3: And talk about that moment where you were like, I
- 28:31Speaker 3: want to play hockey and this is the sport for me.
- 28:34Speaker 7: Yeah. I think it started.
- 28:36Speaker 6: It was kind of the vibe of the city when
- 28:39Speaker 6: the Abs were really good in two thousand and two
- 28:41Speaker 6: thousand and one and a lot of kids started playing
- 28:44Speaker 6: hockey in that time.
- 28:44Speaker 7: I think they did. They lose a two thousand and
- 28:47Speaker 7: then winning oh one, I believe in the in the finals.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Yes, I think.
- 28:50Speaker 7: So I was able to be at that game, Game
- 28:52Speaker 7: seven one.
- 28:55Speaker 6: I think their salary cap was well over one hundred
- 28:57Speaker 6: million that year. I mean there's probably six or seven
- 28:59Speaker 6: Hall of families.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Getting paid there. Yeah, that was a hell of a team.
- 29:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 29:04Speaker 6: You know, Sackic passes the cup to Bork one of
- 29:07Speaker 6: the all time great moments in NHL history. So I
- 29:10Speaker 6: was there, and I was, you know, six seven years
- 29:12Speaker 6: old at that time, and I started playing hockey maybe
- 29:16Speaker 6: year before.
- 29:16Speaker 7: But that's really where.
- 29:18Speaker 6: I fell in love with the game you had the
- 29:20Speaker 6: game I was at game seven, Yeah.
- 29:22Speaker 7: Yeah, I think it was against Jersey, right, yeah, yeah.
- 29:25Speaker 6: So I was at that game with my family and
- 29:27Speaker 6: some friends because my dad had played for the Nuggets
- 29:32Speaker 6: back in the day, so he had some connections for
- 29:33Speaker 6: tickets and so that was obviously an all time great
- 29:38Speaker 6: moment for me and really propelled me into the hockey
- 29:42Speaker 6: world and wanted to play. Also, my older brother and
- 29:45Speaker 6: younger brother, we've all three started playing at the same
- 29:47Speaker 6: time and the rest is really history. No one, no
- 29:52Speaker 6: one really enjoyed playing basketball unless it was pick up.
- 29:57Speaker 7: You know.
- 29:57Speaker 6: We had the sport court in the backyard. We had
- 29:59Speaker 6: the basketball hoop with the hockey net, and the hockey
- 30:01Speaker 6: net would get used the whole time basketball.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Who really, it's funny on the coast sometimes, right. Dad
- 30:07Speaker 1: was a start the players going in a different direction.
- 30:09Speaker 1: It's amazing and it's at that speaking of your journey,
- 30:11Speaker 1: you're part of that historic gold medal USA team back
- 30:13Speaker 1: in twenty thirteen the World Juniors and fourteen no longer
- 30:16Speaker 1: Johnny Gudrou with us, but some of these other names, J. T. Miller,
- 30:18Speaker 1: Jacob Truba, Vincent Trochick, John Gibson, Jake McCabe. How special
- 30:22Speaker 1: was that unit?
- 30:24Speaker 6: That was a very good team. I think when we
- 30:26Speaker 6: went in I don't even know if we were the favorites.
- 30:28Speaker 6: I think it was a lockout year, so I think
- 30:31Speaker 6: a lot of teams had their draft picks from the
- 30:33Speaker 6: year before playing. Yeah, but we went into that tournament
- 30:38Speaker 6: with you know, I think we had an attitude and
- 30:41Speaker 6: a confidence. Definitely obviously having you know, a John Gibson,
- 30:45Speaker 6: the net didn't hurt. He was outstanding that tournament and
- 30:48Speaker 6: he won many games for US. But you know, I
- 30:52Speaker 6: think when it comes to World Juniors too, it definitely
- 30:54Speaker 6: helps that you're with a lot of those guys at
- 30:56Speaker 6: the US program a couple years before, so the chemistry
- 31:00Speaker 6: is already there going into that tournament, which is a
- 31:02Speaker 6: big deal. I think in such a short tournament, you know,
- 31:04Speaker 6: five seven games, it's a ninety three group and it
- 31:07Speaker 6: was a ninety four group, So that.
- 31:10Speaker 7: Was a very special moment. It was an UFA Russia.
- 31:12Speaker 6: Not sure if you've ever been there, you don't recommend going.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I played in Russia. I kind of enjoyed it,
- 31:19Speaker 2: But UFA stinks.
- 31:20Speaker 7: Uf was not great.
- 31:21Speaker 1: It is not kind of a mining town, just not
- 31:23Speaker 1: a lot area was amazing.
- 31:25Speaker 6: It was like it was like an NHL arena in
- 31:28Speaker 6: kind of the middle of nowhere where all.
- 31:29Speaker 2: The money went exactly.
- 31:31Speaker 3: It's it's yeah, that's it. It's oof like it's uf
- 31:36Speaker 3: uh very good time. Yeah, I mean that listening it
- 31:41Speaker 3: like playing in Florida. Now that you're there and you've
- 31:44Speaker 3: played in some fun towns, you know, uh, Nashville, Columbus, Chicago,
- 31:48Speaker 3: but coming into Florida, it's really different. I played there
- 31:50Speaker 3: for a year and what's really cool about is you
- 31:53Speaker 3: have a lot of outlets to like get away from
- 31:56Speaker 3: the game if you need to. And is there you
- 31:58Speaker 3: big golfer, is there anything kind of that's tickled your fancies.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Once you saw you're going to Florida, You're like, oh shit,
- 32:03Speaker 3: like I might be able to go fishing or go
- 32:05Speaker 3: golfing or something like that and really kind of get
- 32:08Speaker 3: some vitamin D and take care of the body.
- 32:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 32:11Speaker 6: I think it is important in the middle of a season,
- 32:13Speaker 6: especially a long season, to get away from the game
- 32:15Speaker 6: and not drying yourself in it, you know, whether you're
- 32:17Speaker 6: winning or losing. And you know, like this week we
- 32:21Speaker 6: had two days in a row off next week. I
- 32:23Speaker 6: think we have two days a row off. Again, we
- 32:25Speaker 6: don't play for four days. So you know, a couple
- 32:27Speaker 6: of guys have boats, like you said, go fishing.
- 32:31Speaker 7: I am a I like golf. I don't love it.
- 32:35Speaker 6: I'm in Dallas in the summertime and it's super hot there,
- 32:38Speaker 6: so sometimes I'm like, I'm not dealing with the one
- 32:40Speaker 6: hundred and ten degree heat to play golf unless you're
- 32:43Speaker 6: going at six thirty in the morning. But I do
- 32:46Speaker 6: like golf. I do like getting outside. You know, you
- 32:50Speaker 6: go on beach walks, you do little things like that.
- 32:52Speaker 6: Obviously being here in Florida, that can take your mind
- 32:55Speaker 6: off certain things and just get away from the game.
- 32:58Speaker 1: It's always nice. That's when you know players who are
- 33:00Speaker 1: so well known with it our Francis are still a
- 33:02Speaker 1: part of the team. I've read and seen that Robert
- 33:04Speaker 1: a little Longo sometimes skates with the guys that practice.
- 33:06Speaker 1: If you've seen Louis skate with you guys at all
- 33:08Speaker 1: while you've been there.
- 33:09Speaker 6: But my first actually my second practice day, I saw
- 33:12Speaker 6: him before practice and I, you know, I said, hey,
- 33:14Speaker 6: what's up.
- 33:15Speaker 7: I had no idea he was skating.
- 33:16Speaker 6: And then I'm getting ready and he's on the ice
- 33:19Speaker 6: taking shots for practice.
- 33:20Speaker 7: I'm like, what is going on right now?
- 33:22Speaker 6: I think I think Bob had a day off that day,
- 33:25Speaker 6: and I think they have a little thing. You know,
- 33:27Speaker 6: Bob will tell him the night before if he's taken
- 33:29Speaker 6: the day and then he'll come out, so we have
- 33:31Speaker 6: a second goalie. But it was it was pretty funny,
- 33:34Speaker 6: and you know, he still got it.
- 33:35Speaker 7: He's still got it, that's sure.
- 33:38Speaker 2: He's not a lot of net.
- 33:39Speaker 7: To shoot on.
- 33:40Speaker 2: No, there's not a lot.
- 33:41Speaker 3: He's a little little bigger than he was. He just
- 33:42Speaker 3: likes to scream at the D. There's not a guy
- 33:45Speaker 3: that screamed at the D more than ROBERTA.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Long him.
- 33:48Speaker 7: Don't screen him, Yeah.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Don't screen him. How's how's being back? You?
- 33:51Speaker 3: But you played with Bob and and I mean how
- 33:54Speaker 3: how nuts is number one? His work ethic? But just
- 33:59Speaker 3: his ability to I mean, I don't want to say
- 34:02Speaker 3: adapt to the NHL, like certainly because he kind of
- 34:04Speaker 3: changed his game a bit and struggled and then found
- 34:07Speaker 3: his game. Like how cool is it to see his
- 34:09Speaker 3: evolution from when you played with him in Columbus to now?
- 34:13Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 34:14Speaker 6: I mean he nothing has changed since I was in Columbus,
- 34:17Speaker 6: I think till now, when it comes to off the ice,
- 34:20Speaker 6: preparing for practice, preparing for games, he's caught. You know,
- 34:25Speaker 6: every time you see him he's on the bike. I'm
- 34:27Speaker 6: pretty sure. I don't really know if I've seen him
- 34:29Speaker 6: when he's not on the bike at the rink and
- 34:31Speaker 6: you know, or preparing his gear or getting mentally ready
- 34:34Speaker 6: for the game. He's got a I just think it's
- 34:39Speaker 6: such a locked in mindset that nothing can face him,
- 34:43Speaker 6: you know, And he's a great teammate. If you watch him,
- 34:46Speaker 6: whether it's in between whistles or TV timeouts or you know,
- 34:50Speaker 6: at intermission, he's always tapping the guys. He's always given Knox.
- 34:52Speaker 6: He's always whether the game's going good or bad. It
- 34:55Speaker 6: could be going he could give up four you give up,
- 34:57Speaker 6: you know, have a shutout going at the time. But
- 34:59Speaker 6: he's always very positive and he comes to the rink
- 35:02Speaker 6: and he does his job, and you know, it's there's
- 35:06Speaker 6: definitely something to say when a guy plays as long
- 35:08Speaker 6: as he has, and I think he's I think he's
- 35:10Speaker 6: thirty six years old now, but he's still you know,
- 35:14Speaker 6: even he's just so locked in, I mean, so locked
- 35:17Speaker 6: in and this guy may play till he's for another
- 35:19Speaker 6: ten years.
- 35:21Speaker 7: With how he takes care of himself.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Thirty six. I can barely get out of bed right now.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Last one for me, Seth, only because you mentioned the
- 35:30Speaker 1: NBA bloodlines with your dad and being a Dallas guy.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Thoughts of the Luca trade. I still can't believe we
- 35:35Speaker 1: even discussed that, Like, don't just go to La awful?
- 35:40Speaker 7: I don't.
- 35:41Speaker 6: I you know, when I went to the rink, everyone
- 35:43Speaker 6: was obviously saying it was awful. I didn't think it
- 35:45Speaker 6: was awful. It depends how you want to look at it.
- 35:48Speaker 6: Right now, it's awful because Davis and Kyrie are hurt,
- 35:51Speaker 6: so yeah, but I think if you had Kyrie and
- 35:54Speaker 6: Anthony Davis and the pieces they had, they could have
- 35:57Speaker 6: contended this year. It's just I think when you look
- 36:00Speaker 6: at the big, bigger picture, trading a twenty five year
- 36:03Speaker 6: old superstar for injury pro and Anthony Davis, I'm not
- 36:08Speaker 6: sure that was the right one.
- 36:09Speaker 7: There might be something better out there. But Anthony Davis
- 36:13Speaker 7: is no joke.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, well he's healthy.
- 36:17Speaker 6: He's just injury prone and so clearly that it already happened.
- 36:20Speaker 7: It's the first game. I think he played for the
- 36:22Speaker 7: Magyars growing or something like.
- 36:25Speaker 1: He looked.
- 36:27Speaker 7: He had like twenty six and thirteen in the first
- 36:30Speaker 7: half or.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Something that was incredible.
- 36:31Speaker 6: But yeah, I mean, obviously the Lakers are set for
- 36:34Speaker 6: the next ten years. I have a superstar, you know,
- 36:37Speaker 6: box office player.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Amazing man.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Hey, seth Uh, listen, I really appreciate your time, especially
- 36:44Speaker 3: after packing up all your stuff in Chicago and on
- 36:47Speaker 3: your days off then coming here and entertaining us to
- 36:50Speaker 3: uh hooligans, which that's certainly added. And tell not me,
- 36:54Speaker 3: but good luck the rest of the way, buddy, say
- 36:57Speaker 3: hi to Teddy Richards for me. He's the man, one
- 36:59Speaker 3: of the best trainers in the game. Get a big
- 37:02Speaker 3: hug from me and keep him keep him on the
- 37:04Speaker 3: straight and narrow. So thanks buddy, good luck the rest
- 37:06Speaker 3: of the way.
- 37:06Speaker 7: Perfect. Thanks, A lot of guys appreciate.
- 37:08Speaker 2: It all right.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Thanks once again to Seth Joes who was awesome. Big
- 37:18Speaker 1: George Foreman left us, which is a really sad moment. Obviously,
- 37:21Speaker 1: the former heavyweight champion of the world passed me the
- 37:23Speaker 1: last five at the age of seventy six. Or for
- 37:25Speaker 1: this week's cine File and sixty I'll tell you a
- 37:27Speaker 1: few stories. But the two time heavyweight champion and Olympic
- 37:30Speaker 1: gold medalist because I got to be in this movie.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Big George Foreman got the role. Me and my buddy
- 37:35Speaker 1: Robert Floores, of course, colleague at MLB Network and longtime
- 37:37Speaker 1: friends from our days at ESPN both and he and
- 37:39Speaker 1: I both boxing fans. So they cast us and Jadi
- 37:41Speaker 1: were in a recording studio.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Of course, you're.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Familiar this with Gillian Muller. And what they do is
- 37:46Speaker 1: you have the video there for the scene. Now they've
- 37:47Speaker 1: already cut the scene, they've shot, they've ended it. It's
- 37:49Speaker 1: just a matter of, you know, voicing over. And so
- 37:51Speaker 1: George Tillman comes on. He's a director, just like this
- 37:53Speaker 1: on Zoom and he's great. They like any true director.
- 37:56Speaker 1: You just do the take and then he's right, that's great,
- 37:58Speaker 1: let's try it again. And my M not sure, but
- 38:00Speaker 1: you're married to an actress wife. I just stick to
- 38:03Speaker 1: exactly what I did. Unless the producer slash director, remember
- 38:05Speaker 1: it is guiding me. I do it. Because if they
- 38:07Speaker 1: say we'll trot like this, then I try differently. If
- 38:09Speaker 1: they go we'll do it, if I will, otherwise I'll
- 38:11Speaker 1: give it to you because I'm like, I get it.
- 38:12Speaker 1: They just want to take a certain way. They want
- 38:14Speaker 1: to hear a certain way. And George is great. After
- 38:16Speaker 1: we do a few lines, it's literally couplets. I'll give
- 38:18Speaker 1: one line, Robert gives one line. He pauses, Okay, go again,
- 38:21Speaker 1: go again. They give you the three dots. Boom me
- 38:22Speaker 1: go again. He says, you know, you're robertson a little
- 38:24Speaker 1: similar and he knows I can't go any other level
- 38:26Speaker 1: because rolflll knows. Mefle's like, I'll go down a little bit.
- 38:29Speaker 1: You know, we're don't have to do accents or anything.
- 38:30Speaker 1: You know, we're not trying to Howard Cussell here, but
- 38:32Speaker 1: it's fine.
- 38:32Speaker 2: We go ahead.
- 38:33Speaker 1: So we're doing it.
- 38:34Speaker 2: We're doing it.
- 38:34Speaker 1: We do the whole role. Okay, great, And as you
- 38:35Speaker 1: know these things, it takes forever, even though you know
- 38:37Speaker 1: you're just reading lines. It's fairly straightforward. But the funniest
- 38:39Speaker 1: part is George, because here's this one line we're having
- 38:41Speaker 1: a problem with the goy sure, and it's Foreman's legs
- 38:45Speaker 1: are rubbery and all these legs are strong, and I'm like, yep,
- 38:49Speaker 1: he goes, Foreman's legs are rubbery and all these legs
- 38:52Speaker 1: are strong. He was like, what would you say if
- 38:54Speaker 1: you were calling a fight. I was like, well, you know,
- 38:56Speaker 1: I called a few fights for the Zone. I would
- 38:57Speaker 1: just say he looks ghassed, and Roberts like yeah, I
- 38:59Speaker 1: would say looks shot, and George looks us and goes.
- 39:02Speaker 1: You know, it took us months to got to get
- 39:03Speaker 1: that line. You guys do about five seconds. Go ahead,
- 39:05Speaker 1: do what you guys just said. So the funniest part
- 39:07Speaker 1: was at the end he was all right, forget all
- 39:09Speaker 1: the script. I want you, Robert, just call the fight.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Don't even look at the script. Just call as if
- 39:12Speaker 1: you're on the monark. Call in the fight. Mac, Great,
- 39:14Speaker 1: we do it. We have it. Blast. It's awesome and
- 39:15Speaker 1: especially that great moment for those that don't know the
- 39:17Speaker 1: rum in the Jungle. I'm telling Flora, I'm like, dude,
- 39:19Speaker 1: we're not gonna get k out of the fight. It's
- 39:20Speaker 1: Rumble the Jungle. Very famously, George Foreman was the heavy favorite.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Ali went in there as the underdog wins the hearts
- 39:26Speaker 1: of everyone in zi year the great documentary Rumble the Jungle.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Those you may have seen by Leon gast won An
- 39:31Speaker 1: Academy Award. Ali plays Ropodope, eventually comes to life, knocks
- 39:34Speaker 1: out Foreman. He loses the fight. So that's a really
- 39:36Speaker 1: the moment the movie comes up to Netflix. They sent
- 39:38Speaker 1: me a copy head of time because I interviewed George
- 39:40Speaker 1: for Cinophile and I'm so excited for this moment. I gues,
- 39:43Speaker 1: this is great and I'm watching I okay. As always
- 39:45Speaker 1: with editing, they always take out a lot, right, so
- 39:46Speaker 1: you look cut one line there. I'm like, okay, one
- 39:48Speaker 1: line there, and then the big moment like here we go,
- 39:51Speaker 1: and George makes the artistic and correct decision but devastating
- 39:55Speaker 1: to me to completely mute our sound ups the music
- 39:59Speaker 1: to a crescendo, and in slow motion you see big
- 40:02Speaker 1: George Foreman tumbling to the canvas like a oh like
- 40:05Speaker 1: any other actor. Dating. All my best stuff left in
- 40:07Speaker 1: the editing floor. But you can check out Big George Forman.
- 40:10Speaker 1: You can still catch a few Chris Mannix who covers box.
- 40:12Speaker 1: You can tell right aways, no I could touch your voice.
- 40:14Speaker 1: You had like six lines gout my best line, like
- 40:16Speaker 1: where I really lost my shit didn't make the cut.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Man.
- 40:20Speaker 3: The editing room is a thankless place and it's just
- 40:24Speaker 3: a dark crevasse.
- 40:25Speaker 1: And how many times has Jill told you they shouldn't
- 40:27Speaker 1: have ran that take? My other take was better. Why
- 40:30Speaker 1: why did choose that take?
- 40:32Speaker 3: She never I think everything she did just they never
- 40:34Speaker 3: cut it out.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Everything was a plus it.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Yeah, it just could be, could be a you problem.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I know, Rest in peace, George. Just amazing, amazing career.
- 40:44Speaker 1: I know, speaking of Cinophi, you want to talk a
- 40:46Speaker 1: little bit of snow White as well. The latest live
- 40:48Speaker 1: action adaptation of an animated Disney classic, forty three million
- 40:52Speaker 1: dollars domestic opening in a film that costs two seventy
- 40:54Speaker 1: to make, delayed by COVID actors strike a set fire,
- 40:58Speaker 1: and now's before they pushed the films released in a
- 40:59Speaker 1: whole year back backlash of her old comments from star
- 41:02Speaker 1: Rachel Zegler, not your how the best way to cast
- 41:05Speaker 1: dwarves if you can call them the seven Dwarves? Your
- 41:08Speaker 1: thoughts at all this? I know you were impassioned.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Impassion.
- 41:13Speaker 3: It's just more like like Disney, like just stop trying
- 41:17Speaker 3: to remake live action, Like stop, don't remake something from
- 41:21Speaker 3: nineteen thirty seven, and then just butcher the whole thing.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Put some young girl on that's never seen it, that
- 41:27Speaker 3: ends up just shit talking the story the whole time.
- 41:30Speaker 3: I'm like, then, just don't do it. Come up with
- 41:32Speaker 3: an original thought. He had some great stuff early on.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Come up with an original thought. Stop remaking these live
- 41:39Speaker 3: action pieces as shit that just don't do well. And
- 41:41Speaker 3: then the whole time it's just now it was marred
- 41:44Speaker 3: by a lot of you know, COVID happened and the shutdown,
- 41:48Speaker 3: but this just was just awful. And then number, you know,
- 41:52Speaker 3: number two on a long list of shit, Peter Dinklic
- 41:54Speaker 3: coming out and just just causing.
- 41:59Speaker 2: I mean, he's he cut more.
- 42:01Speaker 1: War winning actor from Game of Thrones. He's fabulous.
- 42:04Speaker 2: He's a little person.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Yeah, no, listen, his comments cut more jobs than Elon
- 42:09Speaker 3: Muskin Doge. It's like, just think of all the stand ins,
- 42:16Speaker 3: Think of all the actors that would play the seven Dwarfs,
- 42:19Speaker 3: the stand ins, the stunt doubles, all those people know
- 42:22Speaker 3: jobs by Cassis, sunder for Ai, more technology, more cjed.
- 42:26Speaker 3: It looked god awful. It's I couldn't sleep for two
- 42:28Speaker 3: days after looking at that. Peter Dnklish, Rachel Zegler, Disney
- 42:33Speaker 3: just complete failure. And it's showing up because people aren't
- 42:35Speaker 3: gonna go because people smell that shit a mile away.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I listen. I was amused when these big ten
- 42:41Speaker 1: pole movies fall apart like that, And I'm with you
- 42:43Speaker 1: that I like when people have original ideas. I get
- 42:46Speaker 1: tired of these reimaginings and like, you know, just animated
- 42:48Speaker 1: movies live class because I'm I'm annoyed by the lack
- 42:51Speaker 1: of inspiration. Tala thought on Dinklage or Zeglar, any of this.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Yes, please tell way in Ah, I.
- 42:57Speaker 4: Don't have much of a thought. I'm not gonna see it.
- 43:00Speaker 4: I'm not have no interest in saying. I'm just it's
- 43:02Speaker 4: it's not in my wheelhouse this thing at all. It's
- 43:05Speaker 4: a chin it's a children's movie.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I get it.
- 43:07Speaker 1: So that's probably by design.
- 43:09Speaker 4: But I don't see why we've had two live action
- 43:12Speaker 4: Lion King films, Like we didn't need one and we
- 43:15Speaker 4: got two. So I just I think I think this
- 43:20Speaker 4: may be the nail and the coffin for these things.
- 43:22Speaker 4: I think it's been pretty well documented that there's not
- 43:25Speaker 4: a huge appetite for live action remakes of these classic
- 43:29Speaker 4: animated films that we all love.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Just keep it where it is, come up with.
- 43:32Speaker 4: A few new ideas and everyone will be happy.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I can always get down with the Laddin. But to
- 43:36Speaker 1: tell us point, we've had enough. Speaking of having enough,
- 43:38Speaker 1: John Torrell and the Philadelphia Flyers just got drilled by
- 43:42Speaker 1: the least seven to in Toronto. I was watching the
- 43:44Speaker 1: game Sunday and I was texting EJ Erradic at Mike
- 43:47Speaker 1: Johnson were calling the game ANHL Neworker. So this game
- 43:49Speaker 1: is atrocious. Each goal that fidotof allowed Mike Johnson seemed
- 43:52Speaker 1: to get more and more annoyed. Palpably agitated at the
- 43:54Speaker 1: state of Philadelphia goaltending and Tortorella for his part. By
- 43:58Speaker 1: the way, or since started that game the one lasted
- 44:00Speaker 1: in Toronto, but Toros, this falls on me.
- 44:04Speaker 8: I'm not really interested in learning how to coach this
- 44:07Speaker 8: type this in this type of season where we're at
- 44:09Speaker 8: right now, but I have to do a better job.
- 44:13Speaker 8: So this falls on me getting the team prepared to
- 44:14Speaker 8: play the proper way until we get to the end.
- 44:18Speaker 1: But they're disastrous right now. I would argue Keith Chones
- 44:20Speaker 1: is probably happy I'll get that lottery pick. Him and
- 44:22Speaker 1: Danny Breer want a regroup okay, fine one to eight
- 44:24Speaker 1: and won their last ten. But even Bruce Boudreaux, our
- 44:26Speaker 1: colleague and friend JD, he buried Torts. He accuse him
- 44:29Speaker 1: of quitting on the team. He's at seven hundred and
- 44:31Speaker 1: seventy wins, ranking ninth all time. But this is classic Torts.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Year three, so year when he comes in, clearly the
- 44:36Speaker 1: team impresses year two. Last year. As you recall, Flyers
- 44:39Speaker 1: were in the mix most year they were a playoff team.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Unfortunately fall part late and you're through the players go okay,
- 44:43Speaker 1: I've had enough. I'm tuning out towards That's it. I
- 44:46Speaker 1: can't see him recurring to coach. Wouldn't be surprised if
- 44:48Speaker 1: Brier keeps around, maybe in a different capacity. I don't
- 44:50Speaker 1: know if he wants to still coach. But your thoughts on.
- 44:52Speaker 3: Torts, Well, it's tough because I do like Torts at times,
- 44:58Speaker 3: and I've been positive with him the past couple of years,
- 45:02Speaker 3: but I just I don't to Bruce point, I think
- 45:05Speaker 3: he hits it nail on the head. You can't quit
- 45:07Speaker 3: on your team or even allude to that fact. You're
- 45:09Speaker 3: the you're the face, You're not the you know, you're
- 45:12Speaker 3: the face in a sense like you're the one that's
- 45:14Speaker 3: out there fielding the questions. You have to protect the players,
- 45:17Speaker 3: and the players got to play for you at the
- 45:18Speaker 3: end of the day, because you're the your head's on
- 45:20Speaker 3: the chopping block. Maybe he sensed it pretty early, and
- 45:23Speaker 3: maybe they told him something at the Four Nations break
- 45:25Speaker 3: that he was on his way out and they were
- 45:28Speaker 3: going to move in a different direction. He kind of
- 45:29Speaker 3: just like, a screw it, I'm just gonna quit on. See,
- 45:31Speaker 3: we gotta find ways to get up for games. And
- 45:35Speaker 3: I mean it's on the players too. It's not only
- 45:37Speaker 3: on torts. You got to find a way to get
- 45:39Speaker 3: out for games. Play for games, you know, play for
- 45:42Speaker 3: a record. You know, you're trying to have a Even
- 45:44Speaker 3: those years I was on shit teams in Arizona, we'd
- 45:46Speaker 3: always find a way to to finish strong and have
- 45:50Speaker 3: something positive to go into come the summer. And it's
- 45:54Speaker 3: just like, I just don't love it. It's it's a
- 45:56Speaker 3: very shows a lack of leadership and you know, towards
- 45:59Speaker 3: being I only coach on winning teams. I'm like, when's
- 46:02Speaker 3: the last time he's really had a winning record? But
- 46:05Speaker 3: very honest here, I know like, you know, like he's
- 46:08Speaker 3: had a couple, like he hasn't really had great ones
- 46:13Speaker 3: as of late. So I'm like, maybe just get up
- 46:15Speaker 3: and maybe he is just frustrated and sick of it.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Uh so maybe he does need to go into a
- 46:19Speaker 3: different role and go into more on the development side,
- 46:21Speaker 3: or maybe be an assistant coach and just take some
- 46:24Speaker 3: pressure off himself. So yeah, I didn't love the comments.
- 46:27Speaker 1: And uh yeah, remarkable how atrocious their power plays when
- 46:31Speaker 1: the Flyers are oh for March.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Oh there, Yeah, they can't keep the puck out of
- 46:35Speaker 3: the net. They can't score. I don't even want to
- 46:36Speaker 3: watch a game because it makes it's sickening.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Having said that, Flyers and Sabers Saturday, one o'clock Eastern
- 46:41Speaker 1: NHL Support Network. No, I saw J. Yes, you have
- 46:44Speaker 1: another Flyers team coming up. He's like, I do Saturday Sabers.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Let's go come get.
- 46:48Speaker 3: To c J raddick. Poor guy. But let's talk about today.
- 46:52Speaker 3: It was pretty wild today with us trying to get
- 46:54Speaker 3: set on a time. I got my time zones mixed up.
- 46:56Speaker 1: It happens.
- 46:58Speaker 2: But why, I'll tell you why.
- 46:59Speaker 3: So I you know, I'm back in Arizona and when
- 47:01Speaker 3: I come back in Arizona for four or five days.
- 47:03Speaker 3: In between the network shows. I'm just like getting shit done,
- 47:06Speaker 3: getting shit done. And what I do is I have
- 47:08Speaker 3: a fifty eight Apache. I bought it a it's a Chevrolet.
- 47:11Speaker 3: It's a resto mod truck. I bought it Barrett Jackson
- 47:14Speaker 3: when I was drunk playing for the Coyotes. Michael Grabner.
- 47:18Speaker 3: Michael Grabner like kind of talked me into it, and
- 47:20Speaker 3: he was like, you won't do it, and I was like, sure,
- 47:22Speaker 3: I'll do and I picked up the paddle. I was like, oh,
- 47:23Speaker 3: this seems pretty cool. Oh I had forty grand, I
- 47:26Speaker 3: have fifty grand, ILL have sixty grand. Then all of
- 47:27Speaker 3: a sudden, I was like, yeah, I actually don't want it.
- 47:29Speaker 3: They're like sold the guy up in there and I'm
- 47:32Speaker 3: I'm sitting there with a screwdriver, just sipping on it,
- 47:34Speaker 3: just rosie cheeked. After I told my wife, yeah, I
- 47:37Speaker 3: won't buy anything, twenty minutes later, I'm like, hey, honey,
- 47:40Speaker 3: we're the proud owner of a hot rod. Read it's
- 47:43Speaker 3: fifty eight Apatchee, so which I ended up.
- 47:46Speaker 2: We ended up falling in love with it. We loved it.
- 47:48Speaker 3: We've had it for five six years, and but now
- 47:51Speaker 3: just because we've been traveling back and forth from New York,
- 47:53Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm just gonna consign it and sell it
- 47:56Speaker 3: and move on. I had a lot of fun with it,
- 47:58Speaker 3: so that's when I was going to pick up the truck.
- 48:01Speaker 3: And as I'm picking up the truck, I told you
- 48:03Speaker 3: we're supposed to film it certain time, and I completely
- 48:06Speaker 3: mix up the time zones. So I was literally like
- 48:08Speaker 3: in the Apache trucks or here I am on the
- 48:10Speaker 3: highway in Arizona at like launch traffic, just reving the
- 48:15Speaker 3: engine on this fifty eight, try not to have the
- 48:17Speaker 3: wheels fall off, just like, oh shit, I gotta get
- 48:20Speaker 3: done scripted.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Oh God, shout out to fifty and the patches and
- 48:24Speaker 1: appreciate the effort.
- 48:25Speaker 3: It's a beautiful truck. I'll send you a picture so
- 48:27Speaker 3: you can post it.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Please do before we close the JDPOV. It was just
- 48:32Speaker 1: fascinating to me as we stuck this discmelt Tal had
- 48:35Speaker 1: no interest in snow White. You had to interest in
- 48:36Speaker 1: Jim Harbos. Let me just clean up what exactly Dnklice
- 48:38Speaker 1: did say. He publicly railed against Disney remaking it because
- 48:41Speaker 1: he said he lows little people being cast specifically for
- 48:44Speaker 1: little people characters. He also called the remake fucking backwards,
- 48:48Speaker 1: So just for a context, that's what Dnkline said.
- 48:50Speaker 2: Did.
- 48:50Speaker 3: Yeah, but like, come on, Pete, Pete, pde baby, like
- 48:56Speaker 3: you've had a fantastic career, and yes you could if
- 48:59Speaker 3: you are a good actor, you can do a multitude
- 49:01Speaker 3: of different roles. But this feels like it's kind in
- 49:04Speaker 3: your wheelhouse for the for the fellows and.
- 49:06Speaker 2: The ladies that are a little bit high challenged.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Right, give us a JDPOV.
- 49:13Speaker 2: On the way out.
- 49:15Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you want me to talk about Well, we
- 49:17Speaker 3: talked about something that on the network with Mike Kelly.
- 49:22Speaker 3: We put something together for defensemen that pinch and create
- 49:26Speaker 3: offense because my biggest thing was like pinching is one thing,
- 49:29Speaker 3: so like when you're pinching down low on the fore check,
- 49:32Speaker 3: a lot of guys are very good at keeping the
- 49:34Speaker 3: puck in the zone and holding the line. But off
- 49:37Speaker 3: of that, if you don't create any offense, you're just
- 49:39Speaker 3: basically killing time. And then that you know the other
- 49:42Speaker 3: teams you can get the puck, they're gonna break it
- 49:43Speaker 3: out and then you're on defense. So we kind of
- 49:46Speaker 3: played with that notion. He called me, and I was like,
- 49:48Speaker 3: let's kind of like, let's take a deep dive because
- 49:51Speaker 3: you're specifically referencing Toronto because they don't create a lot
- 49:53Speaker 3: offense from the back end. And I was like, well,
- 49:55Speaker 3: they don't really have a guy that can pinch and
- 49:57Speaker 3: then off of that pinch create offense. So he looked
- 50:01Speaker 3: and he kind of crunched the numbers as as one
- 50:03Speaker 3: would do, as Mike Kelly would do, and he found
- 50:05Speaker 3: out that like the first defenseman from Toronto that shows
- 50:09Speaker 3: up that creates offense off of a pinch is like
- 50:11Speaker 3: sixty second in the league. So it kind of went
- 50:15Speaker 3: with what we were talking about. So we looked at
- 50:17Speaker 3: who would be the top five guys. In the top
- 50:18Speaker 3: three is Ross Mustahleen is number one. So for every
- 50:23Speaker 3: time he holds the line, twenty four percent of the
- 50:25Speaker 3: time around that number, he creates an offensive scoring chance
- 50:28Speaker 3: or a shot towards the net. So that's one in
- 50:31Speaker 3: four pinches. And then it's Lane Hudson and Colton Pareco.
- 50:34Speaker 3: So there's a method to the madness of like de
- 50:36Speaker 3: man holding the line and then from that it's the
- 50:39Speaker 3: next play you make. You don't just shovel it down low.
- 50:41Speaker 3: You want to try to make a play with it.
- 50:43Speaker 3: And I think that's something and maybe a metric that
- 50:46Speaker 3: teams can start looking at of Like, listen, this guy's
- 50:49Speaker 3: a good pincher. He holds the puck in, he doesn't
- 50:51Speaker 3: back off. But off of that, he's not just giving
- 50:54Speaker 3: the puck away. He's making something happen with it.
- 50:56Speaker 1: It's pretty cool. It's like a brave heart.
- 50:58Speaker 5: Hold hold the line.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Lane Hudson having a hell of a season.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Maybe when Yeah, he's man. But Dustin Wolf, who's your.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Call the pick? Right now? Celebrany Wolf of Hudson Beach.
- 51:09Speaker 1: CoP's falling off a little bit.
- 51:11Speaker 2: I think it's going to depend Unfortunately, I want to
- 51:13Speaker 2: make it.
- 51:14Speaker 3: It's Hudson or Yeah, and I think celebrate. If neither
- 51:19Speaker 3: all three don't make it, it's celebrating.
- 51:21Speaker 1: I like it.
- 51:22Speaker 3: It's not bad, right, I like to take that to
- 51:24Speaker 3: the bank. Like I said, digest it. Good logic.
- 51:27Speaker 1: Thanks so much for listening to NHL Unscripted. I know
- 51:29Speaker 1: you guys want to talk about Severence, but TAL just
- 51:31Speaker 1: finished the first season. TAL is still a season behind,
- 51:34Speaker 1: so give it another week to binge watch the second season.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Thanks for checking NHL and Scripted. We'll see you next time.
- 51:39Speaker 5: Yeah yeah.
