- 0:06Speaker 1: Well, depending on what kind of Twins fan you are
- 0:09Speaker 1: and how optimistic you are, good.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Bad, and ugly, let's get right into it. Yesterday's Twins
- 0:14Speaker 2: press conference.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Aaron Gleeman, someone we've had on the show many times,
- 0:17Speaker 1: asked whether fans should expect them to significantly increase the
- 0:21Speaker 1: payroll above $ 100 million to significantly strengthen the roster, potentially
- 0:25Speaker 1: returning to 2023 spending levels, and whether ownership should set
- 0:29Speaker 1: clear payroll expectations for fans.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Here was Tom Pollad's response, KB. I'll let you react after.
- 0:36Speaker 3: In a vacuum, I'd love to level set expectations for
- 0:41Speaker 3: the fan base. I think it does this organization, in
- 0:45Speaker 3: particular Jeremy, a disservice to pigeonhole ourselves in that way.
- 0:50Speaker 3: We've talked about a range.
- 0:53Speaker 2: We are not going to be an organization going forward.
- 0:55Speaker 3: That says this is the number, you.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Have to stick to that.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I don't think that that's realistic if you want to
- 1:02Speaker 3: be flexible and adapt to the opportunities that present themselves
- 1:06Speaker 3: in this market.
- 1:08Speaker 2: And so let me just.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Say, I have been very vocal about what our ambitions are.
- 1:16Speaker 4: I've been vocal and to some degree critical of where
- 1:19Speaker 4: we've been. And so it can take some comfort in
- 1:23Speaker 4: the fact that a payroll, wherever we land, is.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Cognizant of both of those things and will be commensurate
- 1:34Speaker 3: with what we're trying to accomplish.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Huh? KP? KP?
- 1:39Speaker 5: Thoughts?
- 1:41Speaker 2: What do you say? Okay, first of all, where do
- 1:44Speaker 2: you go to the school of.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Learning how to talk like an executive, where you just
- 1:48Speaker 5: say a lot of things, but you don't say anything? Because,
- 1:51Speaker 5: I mean, after he said, I'm in a vacuum, which
- 1:53Speaker 5: we don't live in a vacuum, he just said a
- 1:55Speaker 5: lot of things, but he didn't really say anything.
- 1:58Speaker 2: What did he say? AJ, help me out. You know
- 2:02Speaker 2: what he sounded like?
- 2:03Speaker 1: David Stern yesterday when he was talking about a cap
- 2:06Speaker 1: to the lower trajectory of our team, and I didn't
- 2:09Speaker 1: put a cap on the trajectory.
- 2:12Speaker 2: It's a lot of words.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Basically what Tom Polak said is no, but he made
- 2:17Speaker 1: it sound way more intelligent than just saying no, we're
- 2:19Speaker 1: not going to spend any money. Twins fans, keep coming
- 2:22Speaker 1: out and showing up for your team, and let's hope
- 2:24Speaker 1: we can figure out in a bad AL Central.
- 2:25Speaker 2: That's basically what he said. Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 5: I mean, it's crazy that you have to kind of
- 2:32Speaker 5: go to this school of speaking the language when you
- 2:35Speaker 5: become an executive of once again, saying a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 5: those kind of triggering words where you're like, oh, he
- 2:40Speaker 5: talked about money, but he didn't say anything.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Talked about winning, but didn't say anything. Are we going
- 2:45Speaker 2: to spend?
- 2:46Speaker 5: We don't have the answers to it. So it's just
- 2:48Speaker 5: I mean, it is what it is, you know. They
- 2:51Speaker 5: all kind of talk the same. You're never going to
- 2:52Speaker 5: really get full transparency out of them. And I know
- 2:55Speaker 5: over the next couple of days, we're probably going to
- 2:57Speaker 5: get a lot more of these press conferences as all
- 2:59Speaker 5: the teams kind of, you know, meet with the media
- 3:02Speaker 5: members and kind of go over their season.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And I would expect a lot more answers like this.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I mean, we saw it and we also saw in
- 3:08Speaker 1: Seattle when Jerry DePoto had his press conference and he
- 3:11Speaker 1: kind of said a lot of the same things.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You're like, wait, what?
- 3:14Speaker 1: You know, we're happy because when you fail, if you
- 3:17Speaker 1: don't learn from it, then you don't really fail.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You just get better. And I'm like, whoa, you almost
- 3:21Speaker 2: made the World Series last year. And now you're 10 games,
- 3:23Speaker 2: 11 games under 500. So you failed.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Sorry, your team failed. And Dan Hay is one of
- 3:28Speaker 1: our friends. Also had a great tweet about this same
- 3:31Speaker 1: kind of conversation.
- 3:32Speaker 5: It said.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Notifying number from Tom Polat on payroll. This was his
- 3:37Speaker 1: statement on twins off season ahead. I have said over
- 3:40Speaker 1: and over that a hundred million dollar payroll or anything
- 3:42Speaker 1: close to that is not sufficient to be consistently competitive
- 3:45Speaker 1: and in the playoffs. And so we intend to take
- 3:47Speaker 1: the off season and meaningfully invest. I know everybody in
- 3:50Speaker 1: this room wants me to define what meaningfully is. And
- 3:53Speaker 1: I understand that that's a subjective word, but I'm confident
- 3:56Speaker 1: that Jeremy's old, if he has conviction about a move,
- 3:59Speaker 1: that's going to help us improve this roster and help
- 4:01Speaker 1: us accomplish our goals. that this ownership group is prepared
- 4:04Speaker 1: to support him with the financial resources he needs. Okay,
- 4:08Speaker 1: go on saying Tarek Skubal and some of the other
- 4:11Speaker 1: three top pre-agent players, pitchers on the market.
- 4:15Speaker 2: That would improve your team, but they're not going to
- 4:17Speaker 2: do that, KP.
- 4:20Speaker 5: I mean, at least that statement made a little bit
- 4:22Speaker 5: more sense. It wasn't guaranteeing anything, but it was saying
- 4:26Speaker 5: we understand $ 100 million is not enough. We have ownership
- 4:30Speaker 5: that is willing to go over it. if it makes sense,
- 4:33Speaker 5: if it's meaningful, which is obviously a loose term, but
- 4:36Speaker 5: at least you could kind of dissect that statement and
- 4:39Speaker 5: understand that they feel like they got a great manager.
- 4:43Speaker 5: They feel like they have some great pieces, some young pieces,
- 4:45Speaker 5: potentially they understand that that division is not the strongest
- 4:49Speaker 5: in baseball and that there might be some opportunities. Are
- 4:52Speaker 5: they going to go out and, you know, check off
- 4:55Speaker 5: some a list free agents?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 4:57Speaker 5: But I, do I expect them to potentially go out
- 5:00Speaker 5: and spend some money? And free agency, if we actually
- 5:03Speaker 5: have free agency, I think, you know, all this is
- 5:06Speaker 5: kind of just talk right now. We obviously know what's
- 5:09Speaker 5: coming up December 1st. So you're not going to get
- 5:12Speaker 5: a lot of kind of, you know, clear, transparent answers
- 5:15Speaker 5: from anyone right now.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Hi, I'm Max.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I'm here to pump you up at the pump and
- 5:21Speaker 3: save you big in the gas game.
- 5:23Speaker 2: So you're like a mascot for a gas station? Yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 2: I guess you could say that.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You're like a gas cop.
- 5:31Speaker 2: And you're a word nerd, bird. I'll give you $ 20
- 5:39Speaker 2: for that meat stick.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Nope. Okay.
- 5:43Speaker 2: $ 19.
- 5:44Speaker 1: All right, KB, let's talk a team near and dear
- 5:48Speaker 1: to your heart, the Blue Jays. Mark Shapiro had a
- 5:51Speaker 1: press conference yesterday. He also had some confusing words a
- 5:53Speaker 1: little bit. He said he's going to travel to Japan.
- 5:56Speaker 1: He's going over to Japan.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Here you go.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Keegan Matheson, Mark Shapiro said the Blue Jays will send
- 6:00Speaker 1: a contingency to Japan this offseason. And he he may
- 6:04Speaker 1: travel there, too, as they look to expand their presence,
- 6:06Speaker 1: both baseball and business wise. He added that the Japanese
- 6:09Speaker 1: market will obviously be something they explore again this winter.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I mean, Okamoto had an unbelievable year for him as
- 6:14Speaker 1: a rookie. Is this something the Blue Jays need to
- 6:16Speaker 1: look into or they just need to say maybe they
- 6:18Speaker 1: need to travel to the Dominican to figure out how
- 6:20Speaker 1: Vlad starts hitting again?
- 6:23Speaker 5: I mean, look at, I don't know if that's a
- 6:25Speaker 5: thing that you, you have in your post season presser,
- 6:29Speaker 5: you know, maybe weeks from now you talk about, Hey,
- 6:31Speaker 5: we want to potentially go to Japan and explore business and,
- 6:36Speaker 5: and baseball there. And, you know, obviously Okamoto had a
- 6:38Speaker 5: great year going over and signing him. But I think
- 6:41Speaker 5: for a lot of the fans that comes off a
- 6:43Speaker 5: little tone deaf, it's like they want answers about what
- 6:47Speaker 5: happened in the season, not what necessarily we're going to
- 6:50Speaker 5: do in Japan moving forward. So, Once again, it's crazy
- 6:54Speaker 5: when you have executives sitting down and you like to
- 6:58Speaker 5: think that they're talking to the fans, but instead they're
- 7:00Speaker 5: kind of just talking right over them.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And then this one I found interesting too about Ernie Clement,
- 7:07Speaker 1: who I thought was a star gurn.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I thought, I didn't know he had to earn his job.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Shai Davidi, interesting reply from Ross Atkins, GM, when asked
- 7:14Speaker 1: if Ernie Clement will be the Blue Jays starting second
- 7:16Speaker 1: baseman next season. He's got to earn every bit of that.
- 7:19Speaker 1: It's not just write down, Okay, we're covered, but he
- 7:22Speaker 1: always has. When he's been given an opportunity, he's run
- 7:24Speaker 1: with it. We're always trying to. That was in the
- 7:26Speaker 1: plans last year, too, to try to complement every player
- 7:28Speaker 1: the best we can. Ernie can be an everyday impactful player.
- 7:32Speaker 1: He can also be a player that takes 500 at-bats
- 7:34Speaker 1: and plays at a really high level. Because we're such
- 7:36Speaker 1: a good team, he isn't the guy that's being penciled
- 7:39Speaker 1: in every day.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Okay, Ernie Clement had a pretty good year, I thought.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Maybe I was wrong on that.
- 7:44Speaker 1: What if he would have said Vlad Guerrero is not
- 7:47Speaker 1: penciled in at first base? Like, I don't– because Vlad
- 7:50Speaker 1: has the contract, right? Like, Okamoto's not penciled in at
- 7:53Speaker 1: third base. Kirk's not penciled in at catcher, right? Like,
- 7:57Speaker 1: these guys are penciled– Andres Jimenez is penciled in somewhere
- 7:59Speaker 1: because of his contract, right? So, just because Ernie Clement
- 8:02Speaker 1: doesn't have his contract, even though he had a good year,
- 8:04Speaker 1: he just doesn't get penciled in.
- 8:05Speaker 2: He's got to earn it. He definitely faded in the
- 8:09Speaker 2: second half. It happens. He had a little bit of
- 8:11Speaker 2: a rough stretch. Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:13Speaker 5: And, you know, this is really his first full season
- 8:17Speaker 5: of playing every single day, you know, second base.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And he played some shortstop.
- 8:22Speaker 5: But up until that point, he was kind of that
- 8:24Speaker 5: utility guy where you plugged him in.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Maybe he was playing four or five days a week.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Someone was injured.
- 8:30Speaker 5: He went out and played every single day. But this
- 8:33Speaker 5: was his first season being an everyday starter. obviously voted
- 8:36Speaker 5: into the All-Star game, first time All-Star. But when you
- 8:39Speaker 5: look at those numbers and AJ, you know, in this game,
- 8:43Speaker 5: when you go to ARB, which he had his first
- 8:45Speaker 5: year ARB, he's going into a second year ARB. You know,
- 8:48Speaker 5: I don't know what he's projected to make, but you
- 8:50Speaker 5: have to be able to justify that dollar amount to
- 8:53Speaker 5: the statistics you're seeing here. And at the end of
- 8:56Speaker 5: the day, he's a 649 OPS guy, nine homers, 50,
- 9:00Speaker 5: you know, less than 50 RBIs. And then obviously the
- 9:02Speaker 5: on-base percentage is somewhere. I'm the perfect guy to talk
- 9:05Speaker 5: about a guy who didn't get on base a lot
- 9:07Speaker 5: in his career. And, you know, if I could talk
- 9:10Speaker 5: to Ernie, it's like, I feel like I'm looking in
- 9:12Speaker 5: a mirror when I'm watching Ernie come in and play.
- 9:15Speaker 2: He loves to swing the bat. He puts the ball
- 9:16Speaker 2: in play.
- 9:17Speaker 5: But at some point when you get more expensive, when
- 9:19Speaker 5: you go to ARB, you have to understand, I need
- 9:22Speaker 5: to figure out multiple ways to get the first base.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I can't be so reliant on the hit.
- 9:27Speaker 5: I have to figure out how to get deep into counts,
- 9:29Speaker 5: draw walks, get hit by pitches because I, At the
- 9:31Speaker 5: end of the day, a subpar 300 on-base percentage is
- 9:35Speaker 5: not going to fare well for you.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah, well, unless you're me, just get thrown at. That's
- 9:39Speaker 2: how you get on base. It's really easy. If you
- 9:41Speaker 2: can't walk, get hit. Just piss off the pitcher.
- 9:44Speaker 5: And have them throw at you. You probably pissed them off,
- 9:47Speaker 5: but did you also stand really close.
- 9:48Speaker 2: To home plate?
- 9:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I stood fairly close, and I didn't move very fast,
- 9:53Speaker 1: so I just kind of took him a lot. I
- 9:55Speaker 1: had a big elbow guard, and I just kind of
- 9:56Speaker 1: wore him, and people would get mad and yell at
- 9:58Speaker 1: me for standing on top of the plate and all
- 10:01Speaker 1: that stuff.
- 10:01Speaker 2: So, yeah, I mean, I don't know.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I think Ernie Clement has earned the right to be
- 10:05Speaker 1: an everyday player, whether it's second base or somewhere on
- 10:08Speaker 1: this team. The Blue Jays weren't that good where they
- 10:11Speaker 1: can't say, man, we can't have Ernie Clement out there.
- 10:14Speaker 2: So, I mean, I thought he earned his spot.
- 10:16Speaker 5: But, hey, you watch this team much, much– It's also,
- 10:21Speaker 5: you know, as much as, you know, obviously covering the
- 10:24Speaker 5: Blue Jays, a lot of the blame gets put on Vlad.
- 10:26Speaker 5: But when you don't have a good season, some of
- 10:29Speaker 5: those guys around the edges, not your superstars, start to
- 10:32Speaker 5: get micromanaged a little bit. And I think that's kind
- 10:34Speaker 5: of a case where, you know, they are trying to
- 10:38Speaker 5: get better everywhere on the diamond. You know, if Vladdy
- 10:41Speaker 5: goes out and has his great year and this is
- 10:42Speaker 5: a postseason team and they lose and you look at
- 10:44Speaker 5: Ernie's numbers, you're like, man, he was a contributor in
- 10:47Speaker 5: our team getting to the postseason. But when the team
- 10:50Speaker 5: doesn't get there, then you start to kind of micromanage
- 10:52Speaker 5: every position and be like, you know, you start coming
- 10:55Speaker 5: out and saying those sorts of things.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 10:58Speaker 1: And then one last thing in the division, Baltimore Orioles
- 11:01Speaker 1: announced the following surgery surgeries were successful.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Do we ever have surgeries that aren't successful? I mean,
- 11:06Speaker 2: I mean, I hope not because that would mean bad things, right? So, well,
- 11:09Speaker 2: Kyle Braddish.
- 11:12Speaker 5: The unsuccessful part of the surgery potentially comes later on.
- 11:16Speaker 5: I think every surgeon is, more than likely successful when
- 11:19Speaker 5: they do it is how does the player bounce back?
- 11:21Speaker 5: So yeah, it's kind of crazy that they would say
- 11:23Speaker 5: successful surgery. We, we should just assume that whatever operation
- 11:27Speaker 5: was successful.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 1: God forbid something goes completely wrong and that would be
- 11:31Speaker 1: really bad. So, uh, Kyle Braddish, core muscle repair surgery
- 11:34Speaker 1: with Dr. Bill Myers in Philadelphia is from Matt White,
- 11:37Speaker 1: why rich, uh, and also Jackson holiday, left wrist TF.
- 11:42Speaker 1: CC Debridement with Dr. Stephen Shin in Los Angeles.
- 11:46Speaker 2: So get well, guys. I mean, I don't know.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Cool.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Get better.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Jackson Holiday, they're counting on to be a star player.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Kyle Bradish, they paid to be their ace.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So get well. If you're an Orioles fan, you root
- 11:58Speaker 2: for them.
- 11:59Speaker 1: You hope Pete Alonzo has another unbelievable year and leads
- 12:01Speaker 1: the league in homers and RBIs again.
- 12:03Speaker 2: And then maybe he got something going on. Gunnar Henderson
- 12:05Speaker 2: bounces back. And then last but not least, KP, Dave Roberts.
- 12:08Speaker 2: He remains encouraged by Shohei Otani's health.
- 12:13Speaker 1: This is from our, used to be our friend, our ex-colleague,
- 12:16Speaker 1: now she's too big time for us, Katie Wu, because
- 12:18Speaker 1: she's on Dodgers territory. Dave Roberts said he'd like Otani
- 12:22Speaker 1: to take five to seven ABs off live pitching this week.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Dodgers have workouts today through Friday at Dodgers Stadium and
- 12:28Speaker 1: have a couple of wildcard watch parties planned.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Shohei's very important, right, KP?
- 12:32Speaker 1: And by the way, speaking of taking live ABs, I
- 12:35Speaker 1: guess the traject didn't work for the Rays because they
- 12:37Speaker 1: apparently used the, I mean for the Red Sox, apparently
- 12:39Speaker 1: they used the Rays traject over the weekend when they
- 12:41Speaker 1: were there and it couldn't hit Cam Schlittler. So I
- 12:46Speaker 1: guess he needs live ABs, not just off a machine
- 12:48Speaker 1: for Shohei.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Well, I'll tell you what, what was pretty incredible about
- 12:51Speaker 5: that start. And, you know, I didn't, I didn't get
- 12:53Speaker 5: to ask Dave about it, but the adjustment Cam Schlittler
- 12:56Speaker 5: made in that game, he's a guy who doesn't throw
- 12:58Speaker 5: the curve ball a ton. And after that long at
- 13:01Speaker 5: bat against Atlee Rushman, the second batter of the game,
- 13:04Speaker 5: he started using that curve ball a little bit more.
- 13:06Speaker 5: And I could almost guarantee you the guys that were
- 13:09Speaker 5: using the trajectory were not trying to hit the curveball
- 13:11Speaker 5: they were trying to hit one of those three different
- 13:13Speaker 5: fastballs so it was pretty incredible to see a guy
- 13:16Speaker 5: who's going to go on and win the Cy Young
- 13:18Speaker 5: make an adjustment like that in the game.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Great you did throw a lot more curveballs I think
- 13:23Speaker 1: but uh yeah Otani's pretty important they need him right
- 13:26Speaker 1: they need to get him back so.
- 13:28Speaker 5: You know do you think the Dodgers lineup and I'm
- 13:32Speaker 5: not suggesting this is going to happen but an unhealthy
- 13:35Speaker 5: Otani and let's just say he doesn't even play do
- 13:37Speaker 5: you think that lineup is still good enough to win without.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Him Yes, I do.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I think if you get Freddie, if Mookie stays hot,
- 13:47Speaker 1: if Freddie can find some power, Maximus, he does what
- 13:50Speaker 1: he does, Will Smith's healthy. Yes, I think they're deep enough,
- 13:52Speaker 1: but they look much, much tougher if you have Shohei
- 13:55Speaker 1: Tani at.
- 13:55Speaker 2: The top of the order.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And if they let him run, right? If they let
- 13:58Speaker 1: him run and they let him be what he can be, yes,
- 14:00Speaker 1: I think it's– I think they need him. I don't
- 14:03Speaker 1: think it's necessary, but I definitely think that they need
- 14:06Speaker 1: him and he would be a huge help for.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Them.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I agree.
- 14:10Speaker 5: I mean, you– Not having Will Smith this year was
- 14:13Speaker 5: a big blow for them. And he honestly, postseason time,
- 14:16Speaker 5: him and Max Muncy become kind of their best two
- 14:18Speaker 5: players in the postseason. It's pretty incredible. But you love
- 14:21Speaker 5: the way Mookie's swinging the bat right now. And I
- 14:25Speaker 5: think that's the beauty of having Shohei in that lineup.
- 14:27Speaker 5: If he's healthy and obviously the power he provides, then
- 14:30Speaker 5: Freddie doesn't really have to search for power. Freddie can
- 14:33Speaker 5: just do what Freddie does.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Agreed. Agreed. Just get hits, Freddie. Just keep on getting hits, Freddie.
- 14:40Speaker 2: You'll be all right. Kurt Hogue. How do I say that?
- 14:43Speaker 2: Kurt Hogue.
- 14:46Speaker 1: One of the items on Pat Murphy's calendar for between
- 14:49Speaker 1: now and game one is to reach out to any
- 14:51Speaker 1: one of the 58 players the Brewers used this year
- 14:54Speaker 1: that aren't with the team still and thank them for
- 14:56Speaker 1: their contributions to the club. That's actually pretty awesome, Pat Murphy.
- 15:00Speaker 1: He respects the players that aren't there, and he reached
- 15:03Speaker 1: out to them. Some of them aren't in the organization anymore,
- 15:05Speaker 1: whether it was trades or released or sent to the
- 15:07Speaker 1: minor leagues. And he reached out to him and said, hey, man,
- 15:09Speaker 1: thank you for getting us to the point where we.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Won 103 games. KP, they won 103 games this year. Yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 2: he doesn't have to do that.
- 15:16Speaker 5: But obviously, AJ, you've spent a lot of time around him.
- 15:19Speaker 5: I don't know Pat Murphy that well, but everything you
- 15:22Speaker 5: hear about him is he's the type of guy you
- 15:24Speaker 5: want to play for. He loves on you. He's hard
- 15:26Speaker 5: on you. You know, you've seen the stuff where he's
- 15:29Speaker 5: taking players out of the game for not running. He
- 15:31Speaker 5: sets a standard, but he's also going to put his
- 15:33Speaker 5: arm around you, tell you that he loves you and
- 15:35Speaker 5: he values you. And the fact that he's you know,
- 15:38Speaker 5: willing to go out and call all 58 of these
- 15:40Speaker 5: players that played an important part of them winning 103
- 15:43Speaker 5: games this year, getting in that position. He just checks
- 15:46Speaker 5: all the boxes of a guy that you want to
- 15:48Speaker 5: go to war for every single day.
- 15:51Speaker 1: No, I'm going to get to spend a bunch of
- 15:52Speaker 1: time with him here starting on Friday. When I go
- 15:55Speaker 1: up to Milwaukee, I'm going to lay on his couch
- 15:57Speaker 1: in his office. He's going to tell me to get
- 15:58Speaker 1: the F up. I'm going to laugh at him.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I'll put my shoes on his desk. He's going to
- 16:01Speaker 2: yell at me for that.
- 16:02Speaker 1: And then we're going to have a conversation, probably not
- 16:05Speaker 1: about baseball. He's going to talk about football, basketball, softball
- 16:08Speaker 1: who knows what you never know where the conversation goes
- 16:10Speaker 1: with Murph but he is one of the great baseball
- 16:12Speaker 1: minds one of the great baseball people just don't tell
- 16:15Speaker 1: Murph that his teams play as a college style because
- 16:18Speaker 1: he does not like that very much and he will
- 16:20Speaker 1: kind of get in on you so good luck to
- 16:22Speaker 1: Murph very cool gesture from him this is kind of
- 16:27Speaker 1: cool KP a new rendering of Camden Yards left field
- 16:30Speaker 1: outfield renovations looks like they're putting some shade out there
- 16:34Speaker 1: New space, social space, it's kind of similar to Colorado.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Standing room views, central bar, concessions, open to anyone with
- 16:40Speaker 1: a ticket, about 2,000 seats, a little bit less capacity, 40,234.
- 16:47Speaker 1: More renovations coming, say the O's. Should they put more
- 16:50Speaker 1: money into Camden Yards or should they put more money
- 16:52Speaker 1: into players, KP?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Both, both.
- 16:56Speaker 5: I mean, I saw, you know, obviously a very similar
- 17:00Speaker 5: situation in the Rogers Center. They took out some of
- 17:02Speaker 5: the seats. They have kind of those buy a ticket,
- 17:04Speaker 5: standing room only, first come, first serve. But it's become
- 17:07Speaker 5: a place where a lot of people want to go
- 17:09Speaker 5: to the game. They have a great kind of family
- 17:11Speaker 5: atmosphere up there where you don't have to bring your
- 17:13Speaker 5: young kids and put them in a seat. There's a
- 17:15Speaker 5: lot of interactive things they could do. But also for
- 17:18Speaker 5: your 20-year-olds, your 30-year-olds that instead of maybe going out
- 17:22Speaker 5: Friday night to the bar, maybe they want to come
- 17:24Speaker 5: to the stadium, get a couple of drinks, hang out
- 17:25Speaker 5: with their friends. I think anytime you can kind of
- 17:28Speaker 5: Create those spaces in a stadium. You're going to get
- 17:30Speaker 5: more people to come to the game. And if you
- 17:32Speaker 5: get more people to come to the game, you get
- 17:34Speaker 5: a better product. They go hand in hand. So I
- 17:36Speaker 5: think you do the stadium renovations, you get better players,
- 17:39Speaker 5: and then you kind of just built this thing that
- 17:41Speaker 5: just continues to print money for you as an owner.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Oh, for sure. The more people you can get. Attendance
- 17:48Speaker 2: is up. Attendance is up again.
- 17:50Speaker 5: Shocking.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Viewership is up.
- 17:51Speaker 1: People want to come to baseball games because they're fun.
- 17:53Speaker 1: And with all the amenities and everything, they have good.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I mean, most of these ballparks have great food. They
- 17:58Speaker 1: have interesting drinks. They have great areas where you can
- 18:01Speaker 1: hang out with your friends. And there are affordable options
- 18:04Speaker 1: for most people. You don't have to sit in the
- 18:07Speaker 1: first row behind home plate to have a great seat
- 18:09Speaker 1: at a lot of these ballparks, especially the new ballparks,
- 18:12Speaker 1: because they all have line of sight right.
- 18:13Speaker 2: To home plate. They're all looking down on it. So
- 18:17Speaker 2: I think this kind of stuff is great. Do you
- 18:18Speaker 2: lose some seats? Yes, you lose 2,000 seats. But you
- 18:21Speaker 2: know where you make up for it? people having fun,
- 18:23Speaker 2: people spending money on alcohol and food, and just hanging
- 18:25Speaker 2: out and going home and saying, you know what, man,
- 18:27Speaker 2: I had a great time at the Orioles game last night.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Let's go do it again.
- 18:31Speaker 5: I know it's easy to say you lose 2,000 seats,
- 18:33Speaker 5: but maybe those 2,000 seats are empty seats. Maybe if
- 18:37Speaker 5: you're selling out, you're getting 40,000 to 42. You take
- 18:40Speaker 5: away those 2,000 seats, you're still getting the same amount
- 18:42Speaker 5: of people, but more affordable seats, more options for people
- 18:46Speaker 5: to go to games.
