- 0:28Speaker 4: seeing beyond yourself. You know, when most Texans hear the
- 0:32Speaker 4: name von Miller, they think of championship Sachs and one
- 0:36Speaker 4: of the most dominant defensive players ever to emerge from
- 0:40Speaker 4: Texas football. But true significance is measured by something far
- 0:45Speaker 4: greater than statistics. Von Miller is a proud graduate of
- 0:49Speaker 4: Texas A and M University, and he embodies the values
- 0:53Speaker 4: that make Texans extraordinary, from integrity, humility, generosity, and selfless service.
- 1:00Speaker 4: While his accomplishments on the football field, especially with the

- 1:08Speaker 4: have come through helping others see a brighter future. Through
- 1:12Speaker 4: Vaughn's vision, Miller has helped provide eye care and corrective
- 1:17Speaker 4: eyewear to more than seventy five hundred children whose families
- 1:20Speaker 4: otherwise could not afford them. By restoring sight, he has
- 1:26Speaker 4: opened doors to education, confidence, and opportunity for thousands of
- 1:30Speaker 4: young people. His entrepreneurial spirit is equally impressive. As founder
- 1:36Speaker 4: of Greener Pastures Poultry, Miller has invested in the future
- 1:41Speaker 4: of American agriculture Texas Agriculture that is demonstrating that leadership
- 1:46Speaker 4: extends beyond sports and into the stewardship of food production,
- 1:50Speaker 4: business innovation, and rural communities. For his commitment to serving others,
- 1:56Speaker 4: creating opportunity, and using his platform for the greater good, today,
- 2:02Speaker 4: Von Miller stands as our selection for truly significant Texan
- 2:06Speaker 4: in agriculture, A man who understands that the greatest legacy
- 2:11Speaker 4: is not what you achieve for yourself, but what you
- 2:14Speaker 4: make possible for others. Now enjoy this conversation and presentation
- 2:20Speaker 4: to the one and only Von Miller.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Von this is Commissioner Sid Miller, Texas Apartment of Agriculture.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I'm Rick TOKEINNI class is seventy eight, and I'm so
- 2:33Speaker 3: proud to beginning to talk to you today.
- 2:36Speaker 5: I appreciate you guys to be on the phone with
- 2:38Speaker 5: the commissioner and Rick of politics and that and whatever
- 2:42Speaker 5: y'all need.
- 2:43Speaker 6: I got you guys.
- 2:45Speaker 7: Good.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Well, let's get started.
- 2:47Speaker 6: I know you don't you don't have much time.
- 2:48Speaker 8: You got quite a career in the NFL. But I
- 2:52Speaker 8: guess first question is how do you go from pig
- 2:54Speaker 8: skin to poultry? How do we get into poetry?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Business?
- 2:58Speaker 6: Man?
- 2:59Speaker 5: I think it all kind of chose me. You know
- 3:02Speaker 5: when I went to Texas A and M. You know,
- 3:04Speaker 5: I've been fishing and hunting my whole life, but never
- 3:08Speaker 5: had any experience with farm animals or raising cattle, chicken, pork,
- 3:13Speaker 5: or anything like that. I took a a class my
- 3:17Speaker 5: second semester my freshman year at Texas A and M.
- 3:21Speaker 6: And I needed that class to improve my GPA.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Like a lot of students, you know, poetry science me
- 3:27Speaker 5: production one on one. It averaged a A minus and
- 3:31Speaker 5: I needed that to improve my GPA. So it was
- 3:35Speaker 5: other classes I could have took, like the wood shop
- 3:38Speaker 5: and you know, social stance, social science, science, and social study.
- 3:43Speaker 6: It was all type of classes.
- 3:45Speaker 5: I really don't know why I took poetry science one
- 3:47Speaker 5: on one, but I took it. It's really one of
- 3:50Speaker 5: those things in life that they kind of choose you.
- 3:53Speaker 5: I take the class and it's it's easy. And if
- 3:56Speaker 5: you know anything about me, if you know anything about me,
- 3:59Speaker 5: I'll fall asleep and I'm still listening.
- 4:02Speaker 6: At the same time.
- 4:02Speaker 5: So I would fall asleep in his class, and I
- 4:05Speaker 5: was still listening to my professor, doctor Farnell.
- 4:08Speaker 6: He would wake me up and make me come to.
- 4:10Speaker 5: The friend of class and just regurgitate everything that we
- 4:13Speaker 5: learned in this class. And at the moment, I hated it.
- 4:18Speaker 5: I hated doctor Farnell for putting me on the spot,
- 4:21Speaker 5: but I embraced it. I would go up to the
- 4:23Speaker 5: class and I would just regurgitate everything that we learned.
- 4:26Speaker 6: I would tell a couple of jokes.
- 4:28Speaker 5: I'd never been afraid of public speaking or being on
- 4:31Speaker 5: the spot, so I would go up there and I
- 4:33Speaker 5: would make the most out of my time tell some jokes.
- 4:36Speaker 5: The class would laugh, and in turn, it would make
- 4:38Speaker 5: doctor Farnell even more furious, and he would tell my
- 4:41Speaker 5: academic advisors what's going on, and in turn it would
- 4:44Speaker 5: make it made me really really pay attention to the process.
- 4:48Speaker 5: And at the time, I told myself if I don't
- 4:51Speaker 5: make it to the NFL, this is what I would do.
- 4:53Speaker 5: I always have belief that I would make it to
- 4:55Speaker 5: the NFL, but I told him, I told myself that
- 4:58Speaker 5: if I don't make it to the NFL, then I
- 5:00Speaker 5: all started chicken farm. And at the moment, doctor Farnell
- 5:04Speaker 5: was my enemy, but now he's one of my closest
- 5:08Speaker 5: advisors to my chicken farm. So everything everything worked out.
- 5:11Speaker 5: I got my first contract in the NFL in twenty sixteen,
- 5:15Speaker 5: and I started Green Pastor's Chicken that same year. And
- 5:18Speaker 5: in the last three years we started to upscale and
- 5:21Speaker 5: now we do about thirty five thousand birds a week
- 5:24Speaker 5: and it's a huge operation. We have sixty five employees
- 5:28Speaker 5: and thirty five and thirty five people on the cap table.
- 5:32Speaker 5: And I tried to take over, you know, the same
- 5:34Speaker 5: mindset that I had playing football to the poetry industry.
- 5:39Speaker 6: I wanted the best product that you.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Could pop, that you could possibly put out. We have
- 5:43Speaker 5: an organic pasture Raise nine GMO certified Human Man and
- 5:49Speaker 5: that's one of the best. That's one of my favorite
- 5:53Speaker 5: certifications that have we also have we also are halal
- 5:57Speaker 5: certified and we're on the co Research as well.
- 6:01Speaker 6: Still trying to have a law certification and.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Still working through it, but I'm positive that we can
- 6:09Speaker 5: get it done. I just wanted a product that was
- 6:12Speaker 5: the best product on the market, and here we have
- 6:15Speaker 5: green pastors chicken.
- 6:16Speaker 8: Your model operation? Do you have contracts for your brawlers?
- 6:23Speaker 8: Do you mark them yourself? Do you process them? You
- 6:25Speaker 8: sell live birds?
- 6:26Speaker 9: What?
- 6:27Speaker 2: What's your business model there?
- 6:29Speaker 5: So we are a broller operation and we're vertically integrated
- 6:33Speaker 5: up until the point of feed and the hatchery. The
- 6:37Speaker 5: hatterer is is probably a little bit tricky because we
- 6:40Speaker 5: have four hatcheries that we use around the state detections
- 6:43Speaker 5: the around the state of Texas to protect from viral diseases,
- 6:47Speaker 5: because if we had one hattery that we used, if
- 6:49Speaker 5: that hatchery had any type of viral ad break, biological
- 6:53Speaker 5: at break, we would be set back for three months.
- 6:56Speaker 5: So we have four hatcheries that were used around the
- 6:58Speaker 5: state of Texas to protecting in staff and we're currently
- 7:02Speaker 5: uh in the works of acquiring a feed operation as well,
- 7:05Speaker 5: so vertically integrated up into the hatchery and the feed production.
- 7:09Speaker 8: Okay, well, let's let's talk about your philanthropic your your charity.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Tell us a little bit about that.
- 7:18Speaker 6: Man.
- 7:18Speaker 5: So in the NFL, you're around a lot of great guys.
- 7:22Speaker 5: You know, Iron Sharpings, Iron my my rookie seat he's in.
- 7:26Speaker 5: We had a guy on our team named Tim Tebow,
- 7:30Speaker 5: and he did so much when it comes to philanthropic efforts.
- 7:35Speaker 5: He created a he built a hospital on the Philippines,
- 7:39Speaker 5: and it's Tim Tebow. He did so much when it
- 7:42Speaker 5: comes to his faith and his religion, and I just
- 7:45Speaker 5: wanted to have that same impact. You know, obviously I'm
- 7:47Speaker 5: not Tim Tebow. So I waited a year. Twenty twelve,
- 7:51Speaker 5: I was signing autographs. I took my glasses off and
- 7:54Speaker 5: it just hit me, I'm gonna start Buz's vision. I'm
- 7:57Speaker 5: gonna give back glasses, lastic surgery, eye exams, contexts, everything
- 8:03Speaker 5: that has to do with the eyes to kids in need.
- 8:06Speaker 5: And it's funny because at that moment, I just wanted
- 8:08Speaker 5: to help one or two kids, and you fast forward
- 8:11Speaker 5: to twenty sixteen and we've helped over seventy five hundred kids.
- 8:15Speaker 6: And raised over seven hullion dollars.
- 8:17Speaker 5: It was something that it's something that's the same way
- 8:19Speaker 5: as the chicken for them.
- 8:20Speaker 6: It just happened. It was never on my docket to
- 8:23Speaker 6: be big, and I like to.
- 8:26Speaker 5: Give the credit to everybody that's on my team and
- 8:28Speaker 5: the board members to continually push to make Vo's vision
- 8:32Speaker 5: what it is.
- 8:35Speaker 8: We're We've got a presentation for you. We'd like to
- 8:39Speaker 8: present you.
- 8:41Speaker 3: We have been chasing you down as if we've been
- 8:44Speaker 3: on the football field. We want to present you this
- 8:47Speaker 3: commendation to Von Miller and recognition of all that you're
- 8:53Speaker 3: doing in your life of significance the Texas Department of

- 9:02Speaker 2: Congratulations man, guys, I appreciate that.
- 9:05Speaker 5: And you know, this year I've been able to go
- 9:08Speaker 5: into the Texas A and m Athletic Hall of Fame
- 9:12Speaker 5: and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Go Texan is
- 9:16Speaker 5: something that I hold deep into my heart. I've been
- 9:20Speaker 5: able to work with Matt Pittman with Meat Church and
- 9:24Speaker 5: he was so proud of the Go texts and certification
- 9:28Speaker 5: and it was.
- 9:28Speaker 6: Right on board with how proud.
- 9:30Speaker 5: I am to have the Go text and certification with
- 9:33Speaker 5: Grand Pastor's Chicken.
- 9:34Speaker 6: You know, it's so many, it's so many states.
- 9:36Speaker 5: It's forty nine other states to be a Texan and
- 9:39Speaker 5: have a product that represents the state of Texas.
- 9:41Speaker 6: And to be acknowledged by you guys.
- 9:44Speaker 5: It's something that I hold truly to my heart forever
- 9:47Speaker 5: and ever, and I will strive to to to really,
- 9:51Speaker 5: you know, show you guys that I'm worthy of it,
- 9:53Speaker 5: you know, and until the end of time. So I
- 9:56Speaker 5: appreciate your gos for that.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Well, that's fabulous.
- 9:59Speaker 8: You can't said he's better than that.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I've got to add a couple of things.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I've had a chance to meet some of my heroes
- 10:06Speaker 3: face to face.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I will bring this certificate up to you.
- 10:10Speaker 3: It will be framed with Texas and Mesquite and also
- 10:13Speaker 3: present this book to you. And I wanted to show
- 10:15Speaker 3: you something that I that we had made back Super

- 10:23Speaker 2: And that was the year that you.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Won the Super Bowl. You were the MVP. And on
- 10:30Speaker 3: the other side, my daughter happened to go to Alabama
- 10:33Speaker 3: that year and they won the national championship. So it
- 10:36Speaker 3: was you, baby and Alabama and guess what, Johnny football
- 10:41Speaker 3: won the Heisman Trophy that year.
- 10:43Speaker 2: It may never happen in our lifetime again. And every time.
- 10:47Speaker 3: You were introduced, you always went Gigamaggi's just melted.
- 10:50Speaker 5: Our hearts because you know, in life, you you you
- 10:54Speaker 5: made some great decisions, you make some bad decisions, and
- 10:57Speaker 5: I'm right along with that. One of the best dess
- 11:00Speaker 5: that I ever made in my life was going to
- 11:02Speaker 5: the University of Texas A and m becoming an Aggie,
- 11:06Speaker 5: going through the poetry science program. Those decisions have really
- 11:10Speaker 5: elevated my life to a level that I really couldn't imagine.
- 11:14Speaker 6: And I'm so proud to have that shirt, to have
- 11:16Speaker 6: that certification, to.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Have that award, and I'll put that right next to
- 11:20Speaker 5: Super Bowl MVP trophy.

- 11:49Speaker 5: possibly can. I like to think that our birds taste
- 11:52Speaker 5: different than any other birds because our birds live an
- 11:55Speaker 5: amazing lifestyle. We have our poetry farms that move across
- 11:59Speaker 5: the land to have access to natural bugs, grass, sunlight,
- 12:03Speaker 5: and oxygen. They live in incredible life, a country club lifestyle.
- 12:07Speaker 6: They just have one. They just have one bad day
- 12:09Speaker 6: and they don't see it coming. So I'm I'm.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Fairly committed to having the best product to represent Texas
