- 0:09Speaker 1: Tom Smith is the Braves on FT Live right now. Tom,
- 0:12Speaker 1: great to have you on the show. Really really appreciate
- 0:15Speaker 1: the time and it's been awesome to watch you. So
- 0:18Speaker 1: I've been following your story for a while, we all have,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and you're having a great year.
- 0:21Speaker 2: How fun is this for you?
- 0:22Speaker 3: And welcome?
- 0:24Speaker 4: Oh thank you guys for having me on the show.
- 0:27Speaker 4: You know, obviously been keeping up with you guys, big fans,
- 0:31Speaker 4: so to finally be on here is really cool and
- 0:34Speaker 4: obviously you know, being able to be a part of
- 0:37Speaker 4: this Braves team franchise, the history of this franchise speaks
- 0:42Speaker 4: for yourself and just me playing in this division getting
- 0:47Speaker 4: beat up on them by them, I would say, like
- 0:51Speaker 4: I said, it's just full circle moment being over here
- 0:54Speaker 4: and actually playing some real meaningful baseball.
- 0:57Speaker 5: Tom, Are you excited because I'm going to be in
- 0:59Speaker 5: Cincee on Saturday and last time I did a Braves game,
- 1:02Speaker 5: do you know what you did?
- 1:06Speaker 3: I do?
- 1:07Speaker 4: You actually told me what I did? So I think
- 1:11Speaker 4: I need to have more than just one of these games.
- 1:13Speaker 4: You need to come every game.
- 1:16Speaker 5: You hit the walk off Grand Slam and the opening
- 1:19Speaker 5: weekend for the or as Adam Wainwright said, all the
- 1:21Speaker 5: people in South Georgia call you bomb Smith at the
- 1:24Speaker 5: walk off.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Oh that's a good nickname.
- 1:26Speaker 5: It is a good nickname, right, But yeah, so I'm
- 1:28Speaker 5: expecting something. You can't hit a walk off Grand Slam
- 1:30Speaker 5: in Cincinnati, but I'm gonna need something out of you.
- 1:33Speaker 5: You're gonna have to tell Walt that you got to
- 1:34Speaker 5: play and you're gonna have to do something otherwise. I mean,
- 1:37Speaker 5: I don't know if I want to come to Cincinnati
- 1:38Speaker 5: in the middle the end of May and sweat my
- 1:41Speaker 5: ass off watching you guys.
- 1:44Speaker 3: No, we definitely need you in there. Don't worry. I'll
- 1:46Speaker 3: talk to Skip.
- 1:48Speaker 4: I'll remind him about everything that that went down. So
- 1:52Speaker 4: hopefully it's not a problem getting me in there.
- 1:55Speaker 6: Before we before we get into your year, like this
- 1:57Speaker 6: is the best time, Like not superstition, but what would
- 2:01Speaker 6: you like what would you where would you cut? Where
- 2:03Speaker 6: would you draw the line if you said, every time
- 2:06Speaker 6: AJ showed up to your field, he had to give
- 2:09Speaker 6: you a hug and hang out with you after the game.
- 2:12Speaker 6: How many like how many hits is at a minimum of?
- 2:15Speaker 6: Like do you would you cut the line? Would you
- 2:17Speaker 6: be like AJ is annoying me? Like ten days of
- 2:20Speaker 6: hits or would you do the whole the whole season?
- 2:22Speaker 4: Right, Whost even Whost seasons paid for his travel, pay
- 2:26Speaker 4: for his hotel, pay for the full the full nine
- 2:29Speaker 4: whatever he needs if he wants to play around the golf,
- 2:31Speaker 4: I'll cover that, you know. So, Hey, you gotta do
- 2:36Speaker 4: for the team and for the for for yourself.
- 2:38Speaker 7: So would you let him be your roommate on the
- 2:41Speaker 7: road in the Big League hotel?
- 2:43Speaker 5: I don't want to be a roommate.
- 2:44Speaker 2: No.
- 2:44Speaker 5: No answer is no, because I ain't being no one's
- 2:48Speaker 5: roommates old, I got forever in the show. I don't
- 2:52Speaker 5: need no roommate, trust me, Mark Airbnbs, I ain't doing
- 2:57Speaker 5: that either.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I don't know my fiance would allow that.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So, but.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You know, we have to sacrifice for a week. You know,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you gotta do what you gotta do for a couple
- 3:07Speaker 3: of days.
- 3:07Speaker 5: You know, listen, Dom, I'll do a lot of stuff,
- 3:13Speaker 5: but I ain't getting a roommate. Sorry, sorry, I do
- 3:17Speaker 5: a lot off.
- 3:18Speaker 3: We could get the connecting rooms.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I get a room as long as as long
- 3:23Speaker 5: as I got my own bathroom and there's a door
- 3:25Speaker 5: between us and I don't have like Michael beer sleeping
- 3:27Speaker 5: next to me, sitting fifty alarms like that. Then I'm
- 3:30Speaker 5: good as long as I have I need some space, Yes,
- 3:33Speaker 5: personal space.
- 3:33Speaker 2: You've got that.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I got you.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So so Dom's let's dig into bits, like what do
- 3:39Speaker 1: you have for us this year? I mean, I know
- 3:40Speaker 1: you've been asked this probably a million times, but but
- 3:44Speaker 1: what for you individually?
- 3:45Speaker 2: And then what for you with this team?
- 3:46Speaker 3: Feels good?
- 3:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll start with the team first. When I got
- 3:52Speaker 4: here in spring training, I just noticed how selfless this
- 3:56Speaker 4: group was. I just noticed, like this superstars, Like they
- 4:01Speaker 4: don't have an ego. They just want to win. They
- 4:03Speaker 4: want to get after business. And a lot of guys
- 4:05Speaker 4: in his locker room was pretty much not satisfied with
- 4:09Speaker 4: the way last year ended. And they're just very professional
- 4:14Speaker 4: and they're very detail oriented. And I think the main
- 4:17Speaker 4: thing is the main thing, and that's went involved game
- 4:19Speaker 4: to getting back to the playoffs and obviously trying to
- 4:21Speaker 4: compete for a world series.
- 4:23Speaker 3: So this team is very just.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Like prepared, I want to say, and they know just
- 4:31Speaker 4: what they want to do. And then for myself, like
- 4:34Speaker 4: I told you know, KP, one of you guys colleagues
- 4:36Speaker 4: on the show, a few years ago when I played
- 4:40Speaker 4: here in Boston, actually I got what you know, Pete
- 4:43Speaker 4: the hitting coach, Foster, and he really just kind of
- 4:47Speaker 4: broke down my swing a lot, and a lot of
- 4:49Speaker 4: it was just going back to the basics, going back
- 4:51Speaker 4: to stuff I did in high school, and he pulled
- 4:53Speaker 4: up some of my high school video and he just
- 4:55Speaker 4: asked me why I stopped doing this, and I kind
- 4:57Speaker 4: of laughed and said, well, you know, the coaches said
- 5:00Speaker 4: this wouldn't work, and he said, come on, this has
- 5:04Speaker 4: definitely worked. This is how you swing, this is how
- 5:06Speaker 4: you create power, and this is how you are. This
- 5:09Speaker 4: is what you grew up doing. You're a handsy hitter.
- 5:11Speaker 4: You create power with your barrel turn. And we just
- 5:14Speaker 4: really dove into that and getting back to just me
- 5:17Speaker 4: being an athletic in a box, and from there on
- 5:19Speaker 4: it just really clicked. And from there now, I feel
- 5:22Speaker 4: like I can just be myself in a box, compete
- 5:25Speaker 4: at a high level, and I just have that confidence.
- 5:27Speaker 4: And I think that's the biggest thing is when you
- 5:28Speaker 4: go into the box, one you want to just be
- 5:31Speaker 4: able to compete and have confidence, but also understand that
- 5:35Speaker 4: you're in a good place with your mechanics, So just
- 5:38Speaker 4: diving into all that being in a good spot in
- 5:41Speaker 4: this team.
- 5:41Speaker 3: You know, we're so I don't want to say we're great,
- 5:45Speaker 3: but it's a good team to be on.
- 5:46Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:47Speaker 3: We set each other up.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Every time I look up, I feel like there's ducks
- 5:50Speaker 4: on a pond or they're working a picture down. So
- 5:53Speaker 4: it's a lot of credit to the guys before me
- 5:56Speaker 4: in this lineup too.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Bother, I'm a last minute guy.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Sometimes you're a last minute guy where you all of
- 6:03Speaker 1: a sudden see a night open up and you want
- 6:05Speaker 1: to go grab some tickets and you hadn't gotten them already,
- 6:08Speaker 1: so you're going to see geek and you're gonna go
- 6:11Speaker 1: look for a green dot and see where the good
- 6:13Speaker 1: seats are and the good value is and have a
- 6:15Speaker 1: little night with the fam.
- 6:16Speaker 8: Right without a doubt. And I'm looking for some of
- 6:19Speaker 8: the best seats. I'm looking for that green dot. When
- 6:21Speaker 8: I get that. It's a simple plug it in, use
- 6:24Speaker 8: your hands, go right on your screen, your phone, whatever
- 6:28Speaker 8: platform you can get it on, and it's so simple.
- 6:30Speaker 8: They make it so easy for you to do. Even
- 6:34Speaker 8: my son can do it if I ask them. Hey,
- 6:35Speaker 8: Blakester let's go, man, get on there for us. Find
- 6:38Speaker 8: us a couple of seats so we can watch even
- 6:40Speaker 8: that Subway series. That would be fantastic. Seat Geek has
- 6:43Speaker 8: it all.
- 6:44Speaker 3: There for you.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and the code for you. You should know it.
- 6:47Speaker 1: It's Territory ten. It just gets you ten percent off
- 6:49Speaker 1: your next set of tickets. It's EKE ten percent off
- 6:51Speaker 1: any tickets with promo code Territory one zero. Make sure
- 6:54Speaker 1: you click the link in the description, download the app.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Then the code is automatically added to your account so
- 6:58Speaker 1: you can use it later.
- 7:00Speaker 7: Did you laugh? Did you laugh at him when he
- 7:02Speaker 7: started bringing up high.
- 7:03Speaker 6: School video from io Sirah?
- 7:08Speaker 4: Yes, Sir, birl Sarah high School? Yes, sir, he'd brought
- 7:12Speaker 4: up that high school. I'm looking at him like I
- 7:14Speaker 4: was a different player, one hundred and eighty pounds. I'm
- 7:18Speaker 4: standing straight up highlight kick and he's like, dude, this
- 7:23Speaker 4: is you. And for me, I really laughed because I
- 7:27Speaker 4: remember those days.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I remember.
- 7:29Speaker 4: I don't want to say how easy the game was,
- 7:30Speaker 4: but I remember that the game just it just kind
- 7:34Speaker 4: of flowed for me when I was athletic in a
- 7:37Speaker 4: box and I was able to make better swing decisions
- 7:40Speaker 4: and uh, like I said, we handled that out. Obviously
- 7:43Speaker 4: it's not as drastic, it's a little bit more simplified.
- 7:46Speaker 4: But me just getting back to using the whole field,
- 7:48Speaker 4: not trying to be a pool homer guy.
- 7:51Speaker 3: That's that's kind of what I grew up. I grew up.
- 7:53Speaker 3: I feel like a throwback player, you know. I really
- 7:56Speaker 3: grew up on hitting for average and and just hitting
- 7:59Speaker 3: the ball all over the park.
- 8:03Speaker 6: So what what is the what is what is it
- 8:06Speaker 6: like truly coming home? You said you used to get
- 8:08Speaker 6: beat up on by the Braves when you played in
- 8:11Speaker 6: the Division. You watched them from afar, But you went
- 8:15Speaker 6: to high school in Georgia, like you're you're back home?
- 8:18Speaker 7: Did you?
- 8:19Speaker 2: Did you? Did you know?
- 8:22Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I went to high school in l What.
- 8:25Speaker 7: Did I say, Georgia? I read c A.
- 8:29Speaker 6: It's my bad California. So you're not you got no
- 8:33Speaker 6: connection to Atlanta? You'd rather be No, I'm just kidding.
- 8:37Speaker 6: I'm just kidding, Harris. Did you did you get the introduction?
- 8:48Speaker 6: Not introduction, but did you get welcomed into Atlanta like
- 8:52Speaker 6: you thought you would?
- 8:53Speaker 7: Or were you like you know what, I'm not one
- 8:55Speaker 7: of these big time guys.
- 8:56Speaker 6: I'm kind of a feeling at the beginning of the
- 8:58Speaker 6: year with out that big Grand Slam that you hit
- 9:02Speaker 6: for AJ, do you feel like you would have been
- 9:05Speaker 6: welcomed into this city like you have.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I mean, I honestly, you know think so.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Like I told you, guys just started back in Spring Granning,
- 9:18Speaker 4: when I went into the clubhouse, everybody gave me a
- 9:21Speaker 4: hug like I was on the team and I was
- 9:24Speaker 4: the NRI guys. So it just speaks the values of
- 9:28Speaker 4: the culture that they set here. These guys really just
- 9:31Speaker 4: love each other. They love coming to the ballpark. Everybody's
- 9:34Speaker 4: here early. They're talking about the game, they're talking about
- 9:36Speaker 4: scaling reports, they're hanging out after the game and just
- 9:40Speaker 4: talking baseball. And like I said, I think that they
- 9:43Speaker 4: know what they want to do, what we want to accomplish,
- 9:46Speaker 4: So we're just very focused on that. And to see,
- 9:50Speaker 4: like I said, so many of these great players on
- 9:54Speaker 4: my team have no egos, whether it's on the pitching staff,
- 9:56Speaker 4: whether it's on the offensive side. They welcome everybody and
- 10:00Speaker 4: like family and they just want each other to see
- 10:03Speaker 4: each other succeed.
- 10:04Speaker 3: And you feel that, and I think that's the reason
- 10:06Speaker 3: why where we're at right now.
- 10:10Speaker 5: While we're on how do you say a junior pariser,
- 10:12Speaker 5: isn't it Jay Sarah? Doesn't it go by Jay Sarah?
- 10:15Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:15Speaker 4: Well Jay Sarah is the one in Orange County. I
- 10:17Speaker 4: went to the one, and oh, so there's.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Two different ones. That's why I was confused.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, I went to the one in
- 10:26Speaker 3: the inner City.
- 10:27Speaker 4: They had like Robert Woods and the Dority Jackson and
- 10:30Speaker 4: uh like Marquise Lee, like we're more football heavy school.
- 10:35Speaker 4: A couple of baseball players came out of there. But
- 10:37Speaker 4: our school was in the inner City. I don't want
- 10:40Speaker 4: to say I wish I went to the Jay Sarah,
- 10:42Speaker 4: but I know Jay Sarah definitely had uh, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 4: more more funding, I would say so.
- 10:53Speaker 5: But also, but you guys had you guys should have
- 10:54Speaker 5: got some money from one of your you know, I mean,
- 10:56Speaker 5: Scott might even know who your most famous alumni is.
- 10:59Speaker 5: The was famous alumni from your high school?
- 11:03Speaker 3: From my high school?
- 11:05Speaker 5: Yeah, or from no, from your high school.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Oh, it probably has to be like Robert Woods. I
- 11:12Speaker 3: would say, you.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Know, well, Montel Jordan.
- 11:14Speaker 7: This is how come on, man, come on, walk out song,
- 11:22Speaker 7: walk out.
- 11:23Speaker 4: I'm gonna have to show some love. I'm gonna have
- 11:25Speaker 4: to show some love, appreciate I mean, for real, the
- 11:28Speaker 4: legend that he is. You're right, I'm not bad. I
- 11:31Speaker 4: gotta put some respect on his name.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I'm bad.
- 11:33Speaker 5: I mean that song is still on the radio.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Also deep, he went deep into the I like that
- 11:40Speaker 3: you got.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Out of sports for a moment.
- 11:42Speaker 5: Yeah, we gotta get we gotta get high school love
- 11:43Speaker 5: up in here. You know, he's no DJ Khaled, but
- 11:46Speaker 5: like we had my high school or you know, Louis Fonsie,
- 11:49Speaker 5: but he's close.
- 11:49Speaker 2: He probably don't know who he is, though, I guarantee you.
- 11:52Speaker 7: All the kids song.
- 11:54Speaker 5: That song is everywhere still.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Yes, I mean, come on wedding.
- 11:58Speaker 5: What I want to know is what's your being a
- 12:00Speaker 5: first rounder? I know, I know I wasn't a first
- 12:03Speaker 5: round pick, but the first rounder is awesome, right, But
- 12:06Speaker 5: then you're a first rounder with the Mets. Does that
- 12:08Speaker 5: come with the expectations that sometimes are hard to live
- 12:12Speaker 5: up to? Unless I mean, I don't know how you mean.
- 12:15Speaker 5: I guess I would say David right, but even him,
- 12:17Speaker 5: people say, oh, well, he got hurt and he never
- 12:18Speaker 5: fulfilled everything he was supposed to be. Is it something
- 12:22Speaker 5: different about being a first rounder with a team like
- 12:24Speaker 5: the Mets.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I would say yes and no.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Obviously you have the media and the fan base that
- 12:34Speaker 4: is very passionate and they just want to, you know,
- 12:37Speaker 4: see every player they drivet become a superstar and when
- 12:41Speaker 4: Everyworld Series, so the expectations are very high, and that
- 12:45Speaker 4: just comes with the territory. I had a lot of
- 12:48Speaker 4: great veterans who you know, helped me navigate through all
- 12:51Speaker 4: that kind of stuff, and me being from la I
- 12:55Speaker 4: think that kind of helped me not really feed into
- 12:58Speaker 4: all that kind of stuff. I understand that, you know,
- 13:01Speaker 4: they pay their harder money and they just want to
- 13:03Speaker 4: see a good product on the field, and that's what
- 13:06Speaker 4: you have to understand. So they want guys who play hard,
- 13:08Speaker 4: who don't make excuses, and who play well. And baseball
- 13:12Speaker 4: is a tough game, you know, it's kind of impossible
- 13:15Speaker 4: to do good every game. So I just kind of
- 13:18Speaker 4: equated like the year when Judge went MVP and then
- 13:21Speaker 4: he went into the postseason and all the Yankee fans
- 13:24Speaker 4: kind of, you know, booed him and talk crap about him,
- 13:27Speaker 4: and it's like, this guy was just the best player
- 13:30Speaker 4: in the game all year, and now he had two
- 13:32Speaker 4: bad weeks and you guys hate him like it's just
- 13:36Speaker 4: I mean, it makes no sense, but like I said,
- 13:38Speaker 4: it comes with the territory, and I understand it.
- 13:40Speaker 3: I love that fan base.
- 13:43Speaker 4: They gave me a chance to go and start my
- 13:45Speaker 4: career and flurish and learn so much about myself about
- 13:49Speaker 4: just professional baseball and just being professional too, and I
- 13:53Speaker 4: can't thank them enough.
- 13:54Speaker 3: And I think, and like I.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Tell people this all the time, I feel like you
- 13:59Speaker 4: rather go to the ball park and have that expectation
- 14:02Speaker 4: then the opposite when you go to a ball park
- 14:04Speaker 4: and it's ten thousand fans or one thousand fans and
- 14:07Speaker 4: nobody's talking mess. So I think as athletes, that's something
- 14:11Speaker 4: that from a young kid, we want to play meaningful games.
- 14:14Speaker 3: We want to play games that matter.
- 14:16Speaker 4: And when you play for that fan base like that,
- 14:19Speaker 4: you know they care, they're passionate, so they just want
- 14:21Speaker 4: to see the best.
- 14:22Speaker 6: Let's say today you was on the twenty seventeen Mets
- 14:27Speaker 6: and twenty two year old you strolled into the clubhouse.
- 14:31Speaker 7: What would you tell them?
- 14:35Speaker 4: I probably wouldn't say anything. You know back then, you
- 14:38Speaker 4: know when you when you when you're young, but you know,
- 14:41Speaker 4: you just kind of you know, try to find your
- 14:45Speaker 4: place and fit in with the group, and you try
- 14:48Speaker 4: not to make too much noise. You know, nowadays it's
- 14:51Speaker 4: a it's a new era, so they're obviously empowering the
- 14:54Speaker 4: young player to be themselves, to lead, and you see
- 14:59Speaker 4: the game they is amazing. The game is pretty elite
- 15:03Speaker 4: like on off that sits whether it's on offensive society,
- 15:06Speaker 4: you see guys hitting crazy stuff, doing crazy things. And
- 15:10Speaker 4: then on the pitching side, I mean it's unbelievable how
- 15:13Speaker 4: they can spin the ball and tunnel pitches, and I
- 15:16Speaker 4: think the game is then a great spot. And you
- 15:18Speaker 4: know these young players are coming up and they're doing
- 15:20Speaker 4: a great job handling themselves and just put on the
- 15:24Speaker 4: show for the fans.
- 15:27Speaker 2: AJ gave me a line on Blue Chew.
- 15:29Speaker 5: Well, do you need help with your love life, Scott perhaps,

- 16:28Speaker 1: So yeah, twenty seventeen was your first season and we're
- 16:31Speaker 1: almost ten years from that mark. So what's crazy to
- 16:36Speaker 1: me is, like you mentioned how much the game has changed, Right,
- 16:38Speaker 1: the stuff gets better, there's rule changes. The topic of
- 16:41Speaker 1: the day for us has been the way that teams
- 16:44Speaker 1: are looking for tips or any kind of signs. Right,
- 16:47Speaker 1: You're obviously not seeing signs from the catcher for the
- 16:49Speaker 1: most part. It's electronic. So so just on that topic,
- 16:53Speaker 1: you know, we went over Avenue Rebay and it turned
- 16:55Speaker 1: into Ali Marmal talking about how the Brewers and Cardinals
- 16:58Speaker 1: were getting into it last night in this series, saying, hey,
- 17:00Speaker 1: you're taking stuff from the dugout. So I just want
- 17:02Speaker 1: to get your big picture take on how much that's changed.
- 17:05Speaker 1: And you know, AJ and Kratz say they're surprised they
- 17:07Speaker 1: were playing when you you know, we're entering the league
- 17:09Speaker 1: that now people will just like give away signs at
- 17:12Speaker 1: second base and not care and they're not worried about
- 17:15Speaker 1: getting hit. So wanted to get your whole take on
- 17:17Speaker 1: how that's changed and how how much it's a part
- 17:20Speaker 1: of the game that we don't even necessarily talk about
- 17:23Speaker 1: right now or talk about enough, like is it an
- 17:25Speaker 1: everyday thing?
- 17:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say when I first came into the
- 17:31Speaker 4: league in seventeen, we were very behind. We were very
- 17:35Speaker 4: behind on you know, sign stealing or relaying signs or
- 17:40Speaker 4: finding out tips and just seeing the evolution like you said,
- 17:43Speaker 4: over the last few years. I think every team is
- 17:47Speaker 4: trying to do something to gain an advantage.
- 17:50Speaker 3: And this game is hard.
- 17:53Speaker 4: You know, guy that are throwing a hundred with nasty spin,
- 17:56Speaker 4: et cetera, et cetera. So if you try and to
- 18:00Speaker 4: do what you can to help your teammates on the field.
- 18:04Speaker 4: I feel like it's fair game obviously, if you are
- 18:09Speaker 4: blatantly showing stuff up and you can't do it as
- 18:14Speaker 4: discreetly as you should be. I think that's also the
- 18:18Speaker 4: game within the game, because you know, I know, sometimes
- 18:21Speaker 4: teams don't even have sign and they're trying to just
- 18:23Speaker 4: get into the pitcher's mind, psychology, psychologically and really mess
- 18:28Speaker 4: him up so he can make a mistake for the hitter.
- 18:31Speaker 4: So it's a lot of different game within the game.
- 18:33Speaker 4: And if you kind of teeter on that edge, you
- 18:38Speaker 4: open yourself up to, you know, whatever happens with that,
- 18:42Speaker 4: and if that's being hit by a pitch or you know,
- 18:45Speaker 4: you gotta charge them out or whatever the case may be.
- 18:48Speaker 4: That's always been a part of our game.
- 18:50Speaker 3: So I think that.
- 18:54Speaker 4: For me to just see how much every team is
- 18:57Speaker 4: really trying to find the edge that way, it's pretty interesting.
- 19:03Speaker 4: And I don't think it's going to change. I think
- 19:05Speaker 4: teams are always going to try to find a way
- 19:07Speaker 4: and this is going to be a part of it.
- 19:08Speaker 4: And if guys I don't want to throw at guys,
- 19:13Speaker 4: that's on them. If they do, then that's on them.
- 19:15Speaker 4: So I think it's it's really just up to kind
- 19:19Speaker 4: of the players, you know, if they want to police it,
- 19:22Speaker 4: if they don't want to police it. They think it's
- 19:24Speaker 4: you know, within the game right now, there's really no
- 19:27Speaker 4: rules about it. And I think it's just it's really
- 19:32Speaker 4: like the Wild I West right now.
- 19:34Speaker 3: So yeah, I like it.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I like it.
- 19:38Speaker 7: By the way.
- 19:38Speaker 5: I know you need to be out, but I don't care.
- 19:40Speaker 5: Tell your PR. Tell Frank Franco and their PR staff.
- 19:43Speaker 5: I got one more question, so they can they can
- 19:45Speaker 5: yell at me on Saturday. I don't know if it's there.
- 19:48Speaker 5: I was in Boston with you.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Time.
- 19:52Speaker 5: Okay, all right, so here's my question for you. You
- 19:54Speaker 5: got old man Chris Sale with this grave Santa Claus
- 19:56Speaker 5: looking beer on your team. If someone was stealing Chris
- 19:59Speaker 5: Sales signs, would.
- 20:01Speaker 7: He say something?
- 20:02Speaker 5: He'd just be like, oh, okay, don't worry about it, guys.
- 20:05Speaker 5: You just stand back there and jump around and do
- 20:08Speaker 5: all these pointing and all this crazy stuff. For Chrissel,
- 20:10Speaker 5: even at his advanced age of however old he is,
- 20:13Speaker 5: you could tell him I said all this stuff because
- 20:14Speaker 5: he's bad at texting me back that. What what do
- 20:18Speaker 5: you think Chris Sale would do if that was him
- 20:19Speaker 5: out there on the mound and Dom Smith was jumping
- 20:22Speaker 5: around second base going slider slider slider.
- 20:26Speaker 4: To be honest, I think Chris Sale would punch the
- 20:30Speaker 4: batter and then he would walk him down and talk
- 20:33Speaker 4: mess and cuts out, you know, the guy on second
- 20:36Speaker 4: on the way off the field, you know.
- 20:38Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know. I don't think he's gonna
- 20:41Speaker 3: step off and like cause a big scene. I think
- 20:43Speaker 3: he's gonnack it in and really focus on striking out
- 20:46Speaker 3: that hitter and then just letting you know, like you
- 20:49Speaker 3: could know what's coming, you still can't hit me. So no,
- 20:56Speaker 3: it is.
- 20:56Speaker 2: It really is.
- 20:57Speaker 4: And it's funny like you know, hanging out with Chris,
- 21:00Speaker 4: you know, being his teammate and just seeing just his mentality,
- 21:05Speaker 4: like he's really convicted and everything he throws and his
- 21:09Speaker 4: mindset is so strong. I don't even think stuff like
- 21:11Speaker 4: that would even bother him. Like he's so focused on
- 21:15Speaker 4: like making his pitch, and if he makes his pitch,
- 21:19Speaker 4: he really feels like nobody can hit it. And I
- 21:21Speaker 4: think when he when he does that, you know, guys
- 21:24Speaker 4: have a hard time. So I'll ask him though, I'll
- 21:27Speaker 4: definitely ask him.
- 21:29Speaker 5: Tell he's changed.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I will he's changed.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well he caught his debut.
- 21:35Speaker 5: He's gotten softer over his sixteen years.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I'll let him know. I let him know. He's gonna
- 21:40Speaker 3: see you on the Friday.
- 21:42Speaker 5: So oh yeah, he'll see me. Don't worry, he'll see
- 21:45Speaker 5: me in hear me, don't you worry?
- 21:46Speaker 2: Well this was great. Well we'll let you go do
- 21:48Speaker 2: your thing.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Hey, Dom, one more thing. So if you don't play
- 21:52Speaker 5: on Saturday, can we at least get you in game
- 21:54Speaker 5: to do an interview?
- 21:56Speaker 3: Und I got you. Guys, Okay, thank you because we.
- 21:59Speaker 5: Have at times sometimes a lot of guys won't say yes.
- 22:02Speaker 2: But really during the game, pay me my money.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Come on, No they don't know. Come on, man, that
- 22:07Speaker 5: got m money at Fox. Man, we're lucky. We got
- 22:10Speaker 5: microphones at Fox.
- 22:11Speaker 3: We're like the we like to we're like, we're like.
- 22:14Speaker 7: He was an n R T guy, I.
- 22:16Speaker 6: Said in a sool Georgie's from l A. He's he's
- 22:19Speaker 6: an n R guy And he said money, Come on Fox,
- 22:22Speaker 6: pay up.
