- 0:11Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Six years started at Quinnipiac, transferred to RUT
- 0:19Speaker 1: I know that that stuff's like red meat for fans
- 0:21Speaker 1: who are all up in my mentions, all up in
- 0:23Speaker 1: my mentions. Don't at me, don't at me. Bro Oh,
- 0:27Speaker 1: I think he's a little inconsistent. Went his back, kind
- 0:29Speaker 1: of like right o watch, Oh, they'll have some veteran presence.
- 0:35Speaker 1: But uh, but did you hear that? What are they doing? Matt?
- 0:39Speaker 1: Matt's going to take care of business and so that
- 0:42Speaker 1: guy's dead now everybody, So blood neutralizes the word where
- 0:47Speaker 1: you I'm going to push back here on everybody. What
- 0:50Speaker 1: what what does everybody have against Robbie Anderson? So you
- 0:52Speaker 1: guys want to hear about thanks for oh, please do
- 0:56Speaker 1: because I have them. There was one recently the game
- 0:59Speaker 1: where he was targeted twelve times and had four catches
- 1:01Speaker 1: for seventies. Maybe I'm thinking of Wayne Krabet. It's interesting
- 1:05Speaker 1: that you put the charges ahead of them as a
- 1:06Speaker 1: non playoff, because I know I got the teams that
- 1:08Speaker 1: have better talent than This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:16Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:20Speaker 1: at Jilette Stadium, and the news is coming fast and
- 1:24Speaker 1: furious for the other teams right now. I was gonna say,
- 1:27Speaker 1: I mean, things are happening here at Ailette Stadium, and
- 1:30Speaker 1: this is more like it usually is, isn't it this? Yea?
- 1:33Speaker 1: This is this is more like normal. Last year was
- 1:36Speaker 1: an outlier. Crazy. We were the Jags last year. Yeah,
- 1:38Speaker 1: that was that was Yeah. I mean, and even the
- 1:40Speaker 1: Jags aren't signing kind of players we signed last year. Yea.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You know, they've gone even farther. But I'm seeing a
- 1:45Speaker 1: lot of the same Twitter chokes of backing up the
- 1:48Speaker 1: brinks truck and I've just signed with the Jags and
- 1:51Speaker 1: those kind of things. Yeah, but um, you know, so
- 1:54Speaker 1: there is news coming out people that they've resigned a
- 1:58Speaker 1: big you know what a trade. I'm glad you. I'm
- 2:01Speaker 1: glad you caught yourself a notable trade. I'm glad. Wow. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 1: it's because the Patriots were involved. Other than that, well,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I think everyone's favorite blonde haired outside linebacker Chase Winovich
- 2:16Speaker 1: has been traded to the Browns for uh, what's his name,
- 2:19Speaker 1: Mack Wilson. Wilson. Now, he had a great first year. Yeah,
- 2:25Speaker 1: he started like fourteen games I think in his rookie year. Yeah,
- 2:28Speaker 1: he started the last fourteen games plays of the defense.
- 2:31Speaker 1: He had a knee injury in twenty twenty. Uh, and
- 2:35Speaker 1: he didn't play that much last year. Six starts fourteen games,
- 2:38Speaker 1: I mean most special teams. So but he runs fast apparently,
- 2:42Speaker 1: and that's all anybody wants, right, So, yeah, he's small
- 2:45Speaker 1: and it was a player for player. Yeah, similar two guys.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Did the Patriots get better, even if it's incremental, I
- 2:53Speaker 1: would say maybe, just because it's they might have maybe
- 2:56Speaker 1: a position they need a little bit more. But I
- 2:58Speaker 1: still think the bunch a depth that outside linebacker and
- 3:01Speaker 1: a bunch of depth that inside linebacker, and none of
- 3:03Speaker 1: it's really proven beyond Matthew Judon that's kind of the
- 3:06Speaker 1: only guy. Well, the question to me is is he
- 3:08Speaker 1: going to play defense? Did they trade for him to
- 3:10Speaker 1: play defense or did they trade for him to play
- 3:12Speaker 1: special teams? Because if they traded for him to play
- 3:14Speaker 1: special teams, the answer is no, they didn't get better.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Questions and we don't know. The I don't know the
- 3:18Speaker 1: answer is that first year, his rookie year, he had
- 3:21Speaker 1: like eighty some odd tackles and you know he had
- 3:24Speaker 1: every down three, you know, a really good player. And
- 3:26Speaker 1: then what happened, Yeah, well, knee injury. You mentioned the
- 3:29Speaker 1: unique knee injury. But then last year he wasn't that
- 3:32Speaker 1: you know, he wasn't as good either, right, so what
- 3:35Speaker 1: happened last year? Oh? I mean I think there is
- 3:37Speaker 1: a parallel to Winovich and you know, not that win
- 3:39Speaker 1: of Itch really showed a lot his rookie year like
- 3:42Speaker 1: this guy did. But um, you know, I kind of
- 3:44Speaker 1: see that whole group is as similar. I don't think
- 3:47Speaker 1: that he's like, oh well, now we got a guy.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I mean, I think he's in the mix with ray
- 3:50Speaker 1: Kua McMillan and Cameron mcgron and Anthony Jennings and Gelanni
- 3:53Speaker 1: Tavayan to Rose Hall and that kind of group. And
- 3:56Speaker 1: how's it all going to play out? I mean, at
- 3:57Speaker 1: this point right now, it just seems like we're you
- 4:00Speaker 1: and throw it at the wall and see who can
- 4:02Speaker 1: compete and who who's going to win a job. But
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know, it's another guy. It's another one year deal,
- 4:07Speaker 1: Miles Jack's available, Miles Jack, which a lot of guys
- 4:10Speaker 1: still available that our name, right, Yeah, And I think
- 4:13Speaker 1: that's everybody who's like pulling their hair out. It's like
- 4:15Speaker 1: we said, I mean, this is kind of what they do,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and I understand what people want, and I do think
- 4:19Speaker 1: that they need to get younger and better. But I
- 4:21Speaker 1: think the next couple days or where you see the
- 4:23Speaker 1: values start to come out and and all right, these
- 4:25Speaker 1: are the guys that got passed over in the initial rush,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and we'll be able to maybe bank them more amenable
- 4:31Speaker 1: to a deal that's a little more friendly for us.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So I mean, I think I still think there are
- 4:34Speaker 1: moves to come. I don't I think losing JC and
- 4:37Speaker 1: having the big opening a cornerback seen it coming for
- 4:39Speaker 1: two years, and I think that's definitely worthy of conversation
- 4:42Speaker 1: and concern. The trade. The trade for me, though, the
- 4:45Speaker 1: first thing I thought of was the Bethel Johnson Jonathan
- 4:50Speaker 1: Sullivan trade where two players who both teams. I mean,
- 4:54Speaker 1: those guys were both kind of you know, higher up,
- 4:57Speaker 1: you know, we'll first round draft pick and Sullivan's case
- 5:00Speaker 1: right back then, but two guys who sort of were
- 5:03Speaker 1: underperforming with the current teams that and they kind of
- 5:06Speaker 1: figure out maybe a change of scene. He's kind of
- 5:08Speaker 1: could be the best kind of thing. That's the first
- 5:10Speaker 1: thing I thought of with Winovich though. It was to me.
- 5:12Speaker 1: He gets the haircut, then he's traded. It's hair today,
- 5:14Speaker 1: gone tomorrow. So he didn't get to write. Guy, it's like,
- 5:19Speaker 1: can I just do an extra? Got to put a
- 5:25Speaker 1: bow on that story, right, he comes up with him.
- 5:27Speaker 1: It is funny though, the day after he cuts it. Seriously,
- 5:29Speaker 1: he must have known like, oh, I'm going to get
- 5:31Speaker 1: a new job. I better make time time for a
- 5:33Speaker 1: time for a change. Alabama guy, another Mac from Alabama. Yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 1: so obviously the biggest news this week is J. C.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Jackson leaving. He's gone officially, He's now a charger Charger guaranteed.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I still say I said it before. I would have
- 5:52Speaker 1: signed him or at least franchised him, at least keep
- 5:55Speaker 1: the asset. If the market was that hot for him,
- 5:58Speaker 1: then maybe you can get a third round. Well. I
- 6:00Speaker 1: wonder how hot the market was though, because I don't know.
- 6:02Speaker 1: The only team I heard that was really interested in
- 6:05Speaker 1: him was the team that ended up signing. Is that right?
- 6:07Speaker 1: I didn't hear anybody's name other than the Chargers associated
- 6:10Speaker 1: with jac Jackson. I heard the generic sort of oh,
- 6:13Speaker 1: there's gonna be a market for his services, but no
- 6:15Speaker 1: teams were ever like that. I heard of were saying like,
- 6:19Speaker 1: let's just say the Broncos are really interested in Jac. Like,
- 6:23Speaker 1: I never heard anything other than the Chargers associated with
- 6:25Speaker 1: his name. So I wonder if he did the shopping
- 6:28Speaker 1: around and realized, wow, LA is the only one, or
- 6:32Speaker 1: if they just threw that money at him and he
- 6:34Speaker 1: kind of did like the Jackie Child's kind of like
- 6:37Speaker 1: so I'm in. Or teams were just quiet about it
- 6:40Speaker 1: because they didn't want to like start a bidding war.
- 6:42Speaker 1: But usually you hear like, yeah, usually the agent takes
- 6:45Speaker 1: care of you. Here, like at least a handful of
- 6:47Speaker 1: teams start a bidding war. Yeah, it did take a
- 6:49Speaker 1: little while. It wasn't like they had that deal all
- 6:51Speaker 1: cued up and was all agreed to. I mean there
- 6:53Speaker 1: were a couple not a boss today but h J yeah, yeah, no,
- 6:56Speaker 1: I know. I mean I mean there were a couple
- 6:58Speaker 1: though that like as soon as twelve o'clock hit it
- 7:00Speaker 1: like and this guy has so I mean maybe there
- 7:02Speaker 1: was some back and forth with some teams that pretty quick.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I mean to sign on day one, no matter whether
- 7:07Speaker 1: it's in the afternoon or in the evening, it's that's great.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And don't forget it's West Coast time. And I don't
- 7:12Speaker 1: think that the money wasn't outrageous. I mean the forty million,
- 7:15Speaker 1: that's a nice guarantee, but it comes out to like
- 7:18Speaker 1: sixteen and a half million. You know, Now those years
- 7:21Speaker 1: at the end it was a five year deal, and
- 7:23Speaker 1: the years at the end, who knows, So really it's
- 7:25Speaker 1: the first two or three years that really matter. Yeah,
- 7:30Speaker 1: but you know, it was like eighty two and a
- 7:32Speaker 1: half million for five years, forty million guaranteed, which is
- 7:37Speaker 1: kind of common now about half of contracts or guarantee.
- 7:40Speaker 1: They used to not be that way, but now fifty
- 7:42Speaker 1: percent of more of these contracts of being guaranteed. So
- 7:45Speaker 1: it wasn't like outrageous. It was about where the franchise
- 7:50Speaker 1: would have been. That was like seventeen and a half
- 7:53Speaker 1: and this comes out. So I still say, I think
- 7:57Speaker 1: I think they should have signed him. Well, I think
- 7:59Speaker 1: they should have. I could have kept the asset. My
- 8:02Speaker 1: preference would have been tagged with the intention of trading
- 8:06Speaker 1: or tag because I don't think they were going to
- 8:07Speaker 1: pay that kind of money for I think I would
- 8:10Speaker 1: have tagged. If you trade him, great, but be prepared
- 8:14Speaker 1: to pay him, right, that's the risk you have to take.
- 8:16Speaker 1: So they would have had to do some accounting jiu
- 8:19Speaker 1: jitsu to get him underneath there because they had to
- 8:21Speaker 1: resign all of these existing guys that they wanted to keep.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So I'm fine letting him go. I've I've seen it
- 8:27Speaker 1: for two years coming. I just don't think he's there
- 8:29Speaker 1: kind of guy. I don't think he's a guy that
- 8:30Speaker 1: you invest in long term to build around. Um. I mean,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and I'm not going to argue with you. They don't
- 8:35Speaker 1: have much talent, certainly long term on the roster right now,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and that part of it hurts. There's no real I mean,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I think I think more Jaila Mills than some people,
- 8:45Speaker 1: but I still don't think he's a starting outside corner
- 8:47Speaker 1: that they've had. And now what do you do? I mean,
- 8:50Speaker 1: you really don't have anybody in place. I mean, you
- 8:52Speaker 1: can put Mills back there for another ar sure, and
- 8:54Speaker 1: you got Jonathan Jones and Moles Brian, but I think
- 8:56Speaker 1: you know you need at least two guys there, and
- 8:59Speaker 1: that's you know, it's just kind of the tip of
- 9:00Speaker 1: the iceberg. Like even if you had JC Jackson, I'd
- 9:02Speaker 1: still feel like you need some moves to happen. So now,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I just saw on the Sports Hubs TV broadcast here
- 9:10Speaker 1: that I didn't see whose tweet it was. It might
- 9:12Speaker 1: have been Albert Breer, but um, that the Patriots offered
- 9:15Speaker 1: him Jackson three years fifty one million. Did I see that? Right?
- 9:19Speaker 1: It just kind of they quickly showed a tweet and
- 9:21Speaker 1: it was gone before I could read the whole thing.
- 9:23Speaker 1: But it's possible. But you don't know how that structured,
- 9:26Speaker 1: like how much of that was contingent on things, you know,
- 9:30Speaker 1: like how much of it was guaranteed. You don't know, right,
- 9:33Speaker 1: you know. I've just seen different reports that the Patriots
- 9:35Speaker 1: had offered three at fifteen and then then it dropped
- 9:38Speaker 1: to three thirteen. But then I also saw reports here
- 9:41Speaker 1: met yeah, that that that the Patriots weren't even really
- 9:44Speaker 1: close to it, never really in the mix, um, you know.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And I think he heard something similar with Ted Harris
- 9:48Speaker 1: where they had put money on the table for him,
- 9:51Speaker 1: and you know, he went somewhere else for a little
- 9:53Speaker 1: bit more so. So Yeah, carrass is out. Yeah, Bengals. Yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 1: helped protect Joe Burro, Um, mccordy, and Slater in Nick
- 10:01Speaker 1: Nick focus in James ferns, I don't want to get
- 10:03Speaker 1: ahead of our parents. I know Paul's got a lot
- 10:05Speaker 1: of stuff teet up about about his favorite he's not
- 10:10Speaker 1: here signing. Uh yeah, I don't really want to get
- 10:13Speaker 1: into it, but he's writing the analysis that you that
- 10:16Speaker 1: I forced the god forbid. Well, when we signed somebody important,
- 10:20Speaker 1: then it's worth analyzing until then. I I mean, I
- 10:23Speaker 1: I remember specifically two weeks ago on the show, we
- 10:26Speaker 1: were kind of talking, um, you know, I think I
- 10:28Speaker 1: think Fred you said directly, who do you want to sign?
- 10:30Speaker 1: And I kind of was like, kind of our own guys,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and then it went into a thing of saying, well,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know, you owe Devin mccordy money. And at the
- 10:36Speaker 1: time I was misinformed believing that if you have dead
- 10:39Speaker 1: money that you know, you can somehow play with it, um,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and so apparently you can. I mean, you know, I
- 10:44Speaker 1: I was put back in my place on that inventially,
- 10:46Speaker 1: but now I'm seeing, you know, mcguel putting out the
- 10:48Speaker 1: tweet that that uh, that it went from six point
- 10:52Speaker 1: four or five down to five points up. So somehow
- 10:54Speaker 1: they reduced the dead money hit on mccordy. Now they
- 10:56Speaker 1: did push money out, um, you know down. I think
- 11:00Speaker 1: to twenty twenty six, you're still playing dead money for mccordy.
- 11:02Speaker 1: But I'll just get this out before Paul gets here,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and then I'll and then i'll you know, we'll get back.
- 11:06Speaker 1: But I think it's fine. I don't I don't work.
- 11:09Speaker 1: You can manipulate it all the way, you know, like
- 11:13Speaker 1: Paul says, but it's not crap. You have to figure
- 11:16Speaker 1: it out somehow. So like you can sign anyone you
- 11:19Speaker 1: want for any amount of money, but there comes a
- 11:21Speaker 1: date by which you have to be under the cap, right,
- 11:25Speaker 1: so however you figure that out, you have to, you know.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So that's why I think it's lazy to just say
- 11:32Speaker 1: the cap is crap. Yeah, and one like you can
- 11:37Speaker 1: you can manipu. There's a million ways to manipulate it, absolutely,
- 11:41Speaker 1: especially in long terms. But I think it's the one
- 11:43Speaker 1: year stuff with a franchise tag and a one year deal.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Those are those are harder to those. You can't those
- 11:47Speaker 1: that's it, that's real money. You know, you can't fudge
- 11:51Speaker 1: that around. But like like you said, with this mccordy thing,
- 11:55Speaker 1: like they're pushing stuff to twenty twenty six, Yeah, he's
- 11:59Speaker 1: not gonna be around to twenty twenty six. So eventually
- 12:02Speaker 1: there's going to be some dead money associated with Devin mccordy. Yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 1: you know, yeah, yeah, and then you know, and are
- 12:08Speaker 1: they playing as we said yesterday, are they paying a
- 12:10Speaker 1: premium for pregame and postgame speeches? Right? Maybe a little bit, yeah,
- 12:16Speaker 1: But I'm fine with it. I don't think that, you know,
- 12:18Speaker 1: it's crazy mine. I think they need to, you know,
- 12:20Speaker 1: keep some of the leadership in place. I don't think
- 12:22Speaker 1: mccordy is dropped off that much. And I think you've
- 12:25Speaker 1: got three good safeties and that gives you some continuity.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And I'm fine with Slater. I don't think that those
- 12:29Speaker 1: moves are going to define. Oh no, this free agency period,
- 12:33Speaker 1: the pages didn't get worse or better. But again, like
- 12:36Speaker 1: I don't want it to seem like any of us
- 12:40Speaker 1: was I don't think any of us was really expecting
- 12:42Speaker 1: them to do something even remotely close to what they
- 12:45Speaker 1: did last year in terms of signing marquee name players.
- 12:48Speaker 1: So it was underwhelming yesterday, but it was also unsurprising.
- 12:52Speaker 1: If we knew this, it's not, but we wanted to
- 12:55Speaker 1: be surprised. We wanted to see you want to be
- 12:58Speaker 1: like figure out like how to bring in a big
- 13:00Speaker 1: but realistic. I thought they'd signed some realistic It's not
- 13:03Speaker 1: over yet, no, I'm saying, but they would sign somebody.
- 13:06Speaker 1: The first day is typically when the big stuff happens. Now.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I know last year they had a big day on
- 13:11Speaker 1: day one and then they had a big day on
- 13:12Speaker 1: day two as well. But they don't have Yeah, right,
- 13:17Speaker 1: that whole first week actually was very exciting last week.
- 13:19Speaker 1: If they end up figuring out how to sign Miles Jack,
- 13:22Speaker 1: wouldn't that be a big thing. If they figure out
- 13:25Speaker 1: a way to do it, that would be a big thing.
- 13:27Speaker 1: That would be big. Yeah, he's available. What do they
- 13:29Speaker 1: have to figure out sign him? That's what I mean.
- 13:31Speaker 1: If they sign him, if they figure out a deal
- 13:33Speaker 1: with Miles Jack, that would be big. Right. Yeah, So
- 13:37Speaker 1: it's not, it's not a done deal. I think there's
- 13:40Speaker 1: still could be things to come Miles Jack. There has
- 13:43Speaker 1: to be there has to be stuff coming. I mean,
- 13:45Speaker 1: they just why they don't have a full roster oh, okay,
- 13:48Speaker 1: well they do, it's just not with players that you
- 13:50Speaker 1: would They took all their guys back from last year.
- 13:52Speaker 1: They had a full roster when they finished last year. Yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 1: they do have a full roster, it's just not you know,
- 13:57Speaker 1: populated with people that you think are gonna I don't
- 13:59Speaker 1: prove that that roster at cornerback right now, they got three.
- 14:02Speaker 1: They got three guys they have they have bodies, is
- 14:04Speaker 1: my point, Like they have bodies. How many people are
- 14:06Speaker 1: on the roster right now? You have a draft, mic, right,
- 14:10Speaker 1: I can tell you negative. Right now, there's sixty three.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Sixty three, So there's room for a lot more. Because
- 14:15Speaker 1: that's so technically that's a full roster. That's your fifty
- 14:17Speaker 1: three man roster. You gotta cut ten guys. You're gonna
- 14:21Speaker 1: add six from the draft, you know at least probably
- 14:24Speaker 1: you know so that, but you still have room for
- 14:29Speaker 1: twenty one more guys. But this this dovetails into something
- 14:32Speaker 1: I brought up to Paul upstairs. Um, was that if
- 14:35Speaker 1: you just look next year to twenty twenty three. Yeah,
- 14:38Speaker 1: the eighteen guys on the roster, Mike three team guys
- 14:40Speaker 1: really bumped me out this morning. And of those eighteen
- 14:43Speaker 1: bumped you out, bumped me out. Ten guys are ten
- 14:45Speaker 1: guys are starts, like starters, guys that you'd want around.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I'd maybe go to eleven. Me and Paul were probably split.
- 14:51Speaker 1: But say that again, they have eighteen guys under contract
- 14:54Speaker 1: for twenty twenty three, which is not crazy. Like I
- 14:56Speaker 1: looked it around the rest of the league. It's not like,
- 14:58Speaker 1: oh my god, they're an outlier in this league. But
- 15:00Speaker 1: but it's generally what the dumb teams do. But you
- 15:03Speaker 1: look at who are the guys that you really want
- 15:05Speaker 1: to build around of that group, and and you know,
- 15:07Speaker 1: it's it's a little frightening. And I think, you know,
- 15:09Speaker 1: even for somebody like me and Paul brought up you
- 15:11Speaker 1: know how how I often am fond of saying that
- 15:13Speaker 1: I think Bill when he leaves wants to have the
- 15:15Speaker 1: organization in great shape. Well, it's hard for me as
- 15:17Speaker 1: that person to reconcile looking at the roster next year
- 15:20Speaker 1: and saying, you got to hit on like ten draft
- 15:23Speaker 1: picks this year. You know, you need a lot of work.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I mean, I still think they got a lot, a
- 15:27Speaker 1: lot of things to do in free agency. I think
- 15:29Speaker 1: you're you know this is when they usually start to
- 15:31Speaker 1: let the big things go find the guys who are
- 15:34Speaker 1: you know, in the mix, and I know that that
- 15:36Speaker 1: maybe is not as exciting, but get to the clearance ract.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I think they got a lot of work to do.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I think they got a lot of work to do.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And you know, maybe it's just the events of that
- 15:44Speaker 1: last couple of days kind of reminding you of that,
- 15:46Speaker 1: because I don't really feel all that surprised, but I
- 15:48Speaker 1: still want it to be a little bit surprised. Yeah,
- 15:51Speaker 1: we wanted to be surprised, where yeah, we always want
- 15:53Speaker 1: to just summarize my thought like, yeah, I mean I
- 15:55Speaker 1: kind of thought they wouldn't do a whole lot, but
- 15:58Speaker 1: I was still bummed out that they didn't. Yeah, sure,
- 16:01Speaker 1: you know, now never been years where they've done a
- 16:03Speaker 1: lot of their work on week two when most of
- 16:06Speaker 1: the high profile names are gone. So this has that
- 16:09Speaker 1: kind of feel like and I'm not interested in I mean,
- 16:11Speaker 1: like Fred's Miles Jack thing. You know he just got
- 16:14Speaker 1: released today. I mean that would qualify as something you
- 16:18Speaker 1: know that that would be big. But I mean generally,
- 16:20Speaker 1: when you wait a week, you're getting guys that, oh Paul,
- 16:23Speaker 1: I'm not saying no, I want it unless you trade.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Unless you do some type of trade. Yeah, you know,
- 16:29Speaker 1: but well not a lot something a lot of commodity
- 16:33Speaker 1: to get trade like special teams linebackers. But you're not
- 16:36Speaker 1: going to trade like to get Miles Jack. Like if
- 16:41Speaker 1: he was a trade candidate, you're not getting him for
- 16:43Speaker 1: Chase winning, right, I mean, what do you have that's
- 16:45Speaker 1: tradeable right now other than future first round draft picks? Oh, Chase,
- 16:48Speaker 1: one of which was one of your was one of
- 16:50Speaker 1: the probably the first guys you'd say, right, I mean
- 16:52Speaker 1: that that was that that's the kind of guy and
- 16:54Speaker 1: kill Harry, right. I mean, those are the guys that
- 16:56Speaker 1: you're going to be trading. Otherwise you're losing something you want, right,
- 17:00Speaker 1: That's what I mean. Like, what do you have that's
- 17:01Speaker 1: worth something to another team? Yeah, to get somebody like
- 17:04Speaker 1: a like a Miles Jack. I know he's cut. I
- 17:06Speaker 1: mean like that type of player. Draft picks can always
- 17:09Speaker 1: be involved, but I don't think that makes a lot
- 17:10Speaker 1: of sense when you only have six of them and
- 17:12Speaker 1: you need to get younger. Yeah, And it's not like
- 17:14Speaker 1: you have a bunch of depth at a position where hey,
- 17:16Speaker 1: we can move on from veteran player X to give
- 17:19Speaker 1: younger player be a chance, like you're already kind of
- 17:22Speaker 1: being forced into that. Yeah, okay, sorry, We're just I
- 17:28Speaker 1: feel like we're waiting. We're waiting still right, keep waiting.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I can. I can just imagine what's going on right
- 17:37Speaker 1: now in the football offices. I mean, I'm sure that
- 17:40Speaker 1: like they're working overtime. They're working overtime because where they
- 17:45Speaker 1: know that they've got a lot of work to do.
- 17:47Speaker 1: When I brought up to I said to Paul this
- 17:49Speaker 1: morning as well, is like you brought up Miles Jack
- 17:51Speaker 1: as an example. How how does football prepare for those
- 17:55Speaker 1: kind of releases, those kind of you know, all of
- 17:57Speaker 1: a sudden, nobody's talking about Miles Jack for the last
- 17:59Speaker 1: two months as being an option for the Patriots, just
- 18:02Speaker 1: using as him as an example, But how do you
- 18:05Speaker 1: stay ready for that kind of thing where you know,
- 18:08Speaker 1: we're targeting this free agent that we know is going
- 18:11Speaker 1: to be a free agent in you know, in like
- 18:13Speaker 1: give me who's a linebacker that was a free agent
- 18:15Speaker 1: this year that's like Layton Vanderis or whatever, just a
- 18:17Speaker 1: free agent we know we're targeting him. All of a sudden,
- 18:20Speaker 1: Miles Jack comes available and you say, geez, he's way better, Like,
- 18:23Speaker 1: you know, how do you know what I mean? Like
- 18:24Speaker 1: you have to be fluid, But is there any way
- 18:26Speaker 1: to kind of know we think these guys could be available?
- 18:28Speaker 1: We think these guys, I mean, that's what the pro
- 18:31Speaker 1: Personnel Department does. Now, nobody knows every single guy that's
- 18:35Speaker 1: going to get released, but they'll tell you, like, you know,
- 18:39Speaker 1: and that's where like the analytics, the research people that
- 18:43Speaker 1: are more unto the numbers will tell you, you know,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I'm looking at Cincinnati and I'm looking at the rams,
- 18:49Speaker 1: and the numbers don't drive here, They're going to have
- 18:52Speaker 1: to cut some guys. Here are a couple of guys
- 18:54Speaker 1: that are strong candidates to get released. And I think
- 18:56Speaker 1: that's where the combine also comes in, where you have
- 18:59Speaker 1: that week of all the decision makers are kind of
- 19:02Speaker 1: gathered and you kind of start doing your your groundwork
- 19:05Speaker 1: for Hey, you got a guy that you don't really
- 19:07Speaker 1: play much. We kind of like him. What's the chances
- 19:10Speaker 1: of you know, and don't underestimate the role of agents
- 19:13Speaker 1: in this whole. Well, yeah, because most times when a
- 19:15Speaker 1: guy like Miles Jack gets released, it was not a
- 19:18Speaker 1: stunner to Miles Jack. Now I'm not telling you that's
- 19:21Speaker 1: always the way. Sometimes it is sometimes, you know, like
- 19:24Speaker 1: go back to the most famous lawyer, lawyer Milloy. Yeah. Look,
- 19:27Speaker 1: they were working with lawyer Malloy to read you his
- 19:30Speaker 1: contract the entirety of the off season. So lawyer Molloy
- 19:35Speaker 1: could not have been stunned that it ended the way
- 19:38Speaker 1: it did the way we were right like, they were
- 19:41Speaker 1: asking him constantly to read you his deal. So finally, no,
- 19:45Speaker 1: he may have said they won't cut me, and it
- 19:47Speaker 1: was a surprise to him, but not a stunner that
- 19:50Speaker 1: it might. But it might be on the table more
- 19:54Speaker 1: often than not when a guy, you know, just looking
- 19:56Speaker 1: at this timeline to me, Jacksonville was probably looking at
- 19:59Speaker 1: it and saying, we're probably gonna have to do something
- 20:01Speaker 1: with Miles, Jack. But let's make sure that we get
- 20:04Speaker 1: these guys, because they signed like three or four guys yesterday.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Let's make sure we get the guys that we that
- 20:09Speaker 1: we think we're going to get that we're in on,
- 20:11Speaker 1: and then if we do, we'll have to let them go. Yep. Yeah,
- 20:17Speaker 1: So all right, A five five pats five hundred is
- 20:22Speaker 1: the A Sticket Outline web Radio at pagris dot com.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Other stuff going around the league. Um, you know, as
- 20:28Speaker 1: you said, some other teams are making some big trade
- 20:30Speaker 1: JC Jackson over to the Chargers. Yeah that's ah, Paul.
- 20:34Speaker 1: What did you think about if those numbers are right?
- 20:37Speaker 1: You know, um on Jackson five years eighty two a
- 20:40Speaker 1: little less than I thought, just like just a little
- 20:42Speaker 1: bitch a million. Yeah, I see, I said, I still
- 20:45Speaker 1: think they should have signed him. Well, yeah, you wanted
- 20:48Speaker 1: a franchise for that, well, or signed clearly they didn't
- 20:51Speaker 1: want a franchise and for seventeen point three, so they're
- 20:53Speaker 1: not going to sign them to a five year deal
- 20:54Speaker 1: for sixteen point five. No, I know, but like like
- 20:57Speaker 1: and you, I would have done either one. I would
- 20:59Speaker 1: have done either one. Right, No, and you were very
- 21:01Speaker 1: consistent with that and that, you know, I like from
- 21:05Speaker 1: back in like October, right, you were very consistent with that.
- 21:08Speaker 1: You haven't wavered, no, and I package that I keep
- 21:12Speaker 1: them both. But anyway, yeah, he hasn't wavered. Yeah, we'll
- 21:16Speaker 1: see on Thursday when you guys all to yourself. Where
- 21:20Speaker 1: you going, I'm off I'm off? Oh yeah, um yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 1: So with with jay Z, Jacks, Peter Kiss play, there
- 21:29Speaker 1: were so many. I don't know if the Yeah, they're him,
- 21:33Speaker 1: they're in. They're in a play in game. Oh yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 1: they play tomorrow right then? Yeah, you're right that I
- 21:39Speaker 1: forgot about that. Yeah, they're already in. Could you play
- 21:41Speaker 1: in game two? I hate when they call it the
- 21:43Speaker 1: first four I thought that, Um, I thought that if
- 21:45Speaker 1: you one year conference, you're automatically in. They are, But no,
- 21:48Speaker 1: they have to play in. They're in. That's that's in
- 21:51Speaker 1: the turn To me, that's not I agree with you. Yeah,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I agree with you. Yeah, it's still to me, it's
- 21:55Speaker 1: a sixty sixty fourteen. I still consider it a sixty fourteen.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Providence is in there? Where do you draw the line
- 22:02Speaker 1: one game? If you had a player in time, it's
- 22:05Speaker 1: been thirty two, forty eight, fifty three, sixty four, and
- 22:07Speaker 1: sixty eight. But I still consider it sixty four now.
- 22:09Speaker 1: But if you have to do a play in game,
- 22:11Speaker 1: then you didn't get an automatic bit. You did get
- 22:13Speaker 1: an automatic bit. If they didn't get an automatic bit,
- 22:15Speaker 1: they wouldn't be in the playing game. I know what
- 22:17Speaker 1: you're saying, But today I agree with you. That's still
- 22:19Speaker 1: a prove it game. I agree with you, it's approve it, right,
- 22:22Speaker 1: those are the rules. I know it's to know, but
- 22:26Speaker 1: I thought playing games for only the at large pete. No,
- 22:31Speaker 1: there's there's two of those, and there's two for sixteen seeds. Yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: that are automatics. That's the way they do it. Anyway,
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's it's coctas. Anyway, we're talking football here, Um, football's time. Yeah.
- 22:45Speaker 1: The JC Jackson thing, what I found kind of interesting
- 22:48Speaker 1: is it was it was a little less mind. Like
- 22:50Speaker 1: I thought, probably like seventeen or eighteen. You got sixteen
- 22:53Speaker 1: and a half. So I'm not gonna sit there's wow,
- 22:56Speaker 1: he signed right away and that's all he got. No,
- 22:58Speaker 1: he banked, he got he got a huge set, he
- 23:02Speaker 1: got a huge contract. A lot of people are like
- 23:05Speaker 1: killing the Patriots for not like, how can they not
- 23:07Speaker 1: go They told you the week before when they didn't
- 23:11Speaker 1: franchise him they weren't willing to go to seventeen point three, right, Yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 1: like for eight hundred thousand, you think that that was
- 23:17Speaker 1: going to be the difference. Plus, as Mike said, the
- 23:19Speaker 1: forty guaranteed over a five year Like they were telling you,
- 23:24Speaker 1: seventeen point three was more than they were comfortable paying. Yeah,
- 23:27Speaker 1: so sixteen and a half was still too much. Yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 1: like the difference between you know, less than a million
- 23:33Speaker 1: is not gonna you know, change change that. And again
- 23:37Speaker 1: you've been very consistent. You wanted to keep him, you
- 23:40Speaker 1: thought they should have gone. I just look at the league,
- 23:43Speaker 1: and there aren't Like, he's not a shutdown corner. I'm
- 23:46Speaker 1: admitting that to all those people that are saying he's
- 23:49Speaker 1: not the Roe Reevers and he's not kill him. Yes
- 23:51Speaker 1: he's not. There aren't a lot of them. But you
- 23:54Speaker 1: need somebody, and you're gonna have to pay somebody, and
- 23:57Speaker 1: when they get even to his level, you're gonna have
- 23:59Speaker 1: to pay the Yeah, it's like with quarterbacks, like you
- 24:02Speaker 1: might not want to have to pay a starting quarterback
- 24:04Speaker 1: kind of money you pay like the Vikings just guaranteed
- 24:07Speaker 1: thirty five millions her cousins. But that's the going, right,
- 24:10Speaker 1: Matt Jones just stays like an average quarterback. Yeah, it
- 24:13Speaker 1: gets to his fifth year, he gets there. I'm just saying.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I said, if he gets there to his fifth year
- 24:19Speaker 1: and he's an average quarterback, he's gonna get paid by somebody. Yeah,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you know right, he's gonna get paid. And again, like
- 24:24Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins, I bring up that example again, like he's
- 24:27Speaker 1: made an incredible career out of being an average quarterback.
- 24:30Speaker 1: All of the national UH heavyweights were wrong on the
- 24:35Speaker 1: Randy Gregory to Dallas thing. Evidently he's signing with Denver.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Randy Gregory signed a big all said he was staying
- 24:42Speaker 1: in Dallas. Yeah, five year. Yeah. Tell you that that
- 24:46Speaker 1: AFC West is an arms race, right, yeah, it is.
- 24:50Speaker 1: It is an arms race. They are just loading up
- 24:53Speaker 1: charge repete against each JC and Mac. Yeah. I wonder
- 24:57Speaker 1: if that puts them out on on von Miller. I
- 24:59Speaker 1: hear some interesting stuff like Miller would still maybe considering.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I'll tell you that the team, the odd team out
- 25:04Speaker 1: might be Kansas. I heard Tyrone Matthew is leaving. Yeah,
- 25:09Speaker 1: they're not going to resign him. He's available, you know. Interesting,
- 25:13Speaker 1: So I mean that that's gonna be a wild of him.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Who would you have rather had wild and crazy Tyrone Matthew, Yes?
- 25:21Speaker 1: Or d mac Tyro Matthew. Yeah. I mean I mean
- 25:27Speaker 1: that's even though, like that's a tough one. I think
- 25:29Speaker 1: they're a little bit different kind of players. But and
- 25:33Speaker 1: you and you're gonna have him one year? Yeah? I
- 25:35Speaker 1: think if you if you tell me, I can have
- 25:37Speaker 1: him for at least three years, I'll take because that's
- 25:39Speaker 1: what you'd be signing him for. Yeah, you wouldn't be
- 25:41Speaker 1: signing him for one year. He's a he's younger. Yep, Um,
- 25:45Speaker 1: he's more of a playmaker. I think he's more of
- 25:47Speaker 1: a playmaker. I don't like he seems to have been
- 25:50Speaker 1: a leader at Kansas City. Like you know, I'm not
- 25:53Speaker 1: so much worried about that aspect of But I want
- 25:55Speaker 1: a guy I am, I said, not so much. I
- 25:59Speaker 1: want to start with who's going to be an impactful
- 26:01Speaker 1: player on the field. The off field stuff is great,
- 26:03Speaker 1: but I want you to be an impact player on
- 26:05Speaker 1: the field first. Yeah, and I think he would have
- 26:08Speaker 1: been more of a well an asset. Has he signed
- 26:11Speaker 1: with anyone? He hasn't, but the fact that the cross
- 26:14Speaker 1: him off the Patriots ain't signing there. Yeah, why so
- 26:17Speaker 1: he could be the fourth safety? Well maybe maybe he's not. Maybe,
- 26:21Speaker 1: you know, can you play corner? Could be in a
- 26:23Speaker 1: four man rotation. That's why I bring up the would
- 26:27Speaker 1: you rather have? Maybe now you you trade Kyle Dugger.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe he's like if you had, if
- 26:32Speaker 1: you had, if you had Phillips and Matthew as your
- 26:36Speaker 1: two starters and Dugger like, maybe Dugger is a potential
- 26:39Speaker 1: like down the road, like mid season trade prospect if
- 26:42Speaker 1: he doesn't kind of pan out the way you think,
- 26:45Speaker 1: or if not, you keep him. Paul's like, I don't
- 26:49Speaker 1: want to He's one of the five guys play. I
- 26:54Speaker 1: don't want to trade him. Yeah, I mean I don't
- 26:57Speaker 1: want to trade him either. But I'm saying like I
- 26:59Speaker 1: don't want Tyron Matthew instead of Kyle Dugger. I'll take
- 27:01Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger. I know that might shock people with me
- 27:04Speaker 1: being positive on a young Patriot player. It is Matthew
- 27:07Speaker 1: was knocking on the door and he's coing on his
- 27:11Speaker 1: fourth team. Like, I don't think Tyrn Matthew is Jordan
- 27:14Speaker 1: Poy or Micah Hyde. I'll take those two over what
- 27:17Speaker 1: I have, you know, as older safeties. Tyron Matthews not
- 27:20Speaker 1: that guy. No way, I'll take too. You would take
- 27:25Speaker 1: Devin mccordy. Yeah, Now, I wouldn't necessarily done the contract
- 27:29Speaker 1: that they did for Devin mccordy, like pushing more. You know,
- 27:33Speaker 1: these void years are ridiculous. We look forget about the Okay,
- 27:36Speaker 1: so let's just say that you haven't done the contract
- 27:40Speaker 1: yet with mccordy, because I get it, you're not gonna
- 27:42Speaker 1: pay Matthew and mccordy. But what if it was one
- 27:45Speaker 1: or the other. You know, if I think this is
- 27:47Speaker 1: an argument to be made that mccordy is more valuable
- 27:50Speaker 1: with the Patriots than Matthew would be coming in really, yeah, Okay,
- 27:53Speaker 1: I don't think Tyron Matthew is, you know, in his prime. Okay,
- 27:58Speaker 1: I think he's a good player, but I don't think
- 27:59Speaker 1: he's in this prime, much like I know mcquody's not
- 28:02Speaker 1: in this prime, right. I watched him the last whole Thanks,
- 28:04Speaker 1: the guy who stays on his own team is more
- 28:07Speaker 1: valuable than so that. Eric. I caught that too. I
- 28:11Speaker 1: caught that too. I didn't want to go down that road.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Not the same I didn't want to go down that road.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I get it. That's that's thanks, that's stupid. It's funny
- 28:18Speaker 1: for you, normally the most humorless guy. I just said
- 28:23Speaker 1: that I wouldn't want Tyron Matthew. He looked at me like,
- 28:25Speaker 1: I just like, you know, ate an onion or something.
- 28:28Speaker 1: So that was funny for the most humorless guy in
- 28:30Speaker 1: the show. But wow, but it's not the same. He
- 28:32Speaker 1: don't get mad at me. I didn't force you to
- 28:34Speaker 1: write the same the useless analysis piece today, So don't
- 28:37Speaker 1: get mad at me. Take your anger out on the
- 28:39Speaker 1: person that you're just supposed to take it. Who's harumpan.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Now Paul's mad because I made him right today. It's
- 28:47Speaker 1: not mad for that one. It's we gotta talk, Okay.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I do get I'm curious. I'm getting two thousand and
- 28:54Speaker 1: five defense vibe, and that's I was just curious to
- 28:57Speaker 1: your guys's opinion on that one where it was like,
- 28:59Speaker 1: all the sudden you went from thy law and and
- 29:02Speaker 1: then dween Starks. But you know, you go, well, it
- 29:07Speaker 1: was just a period where you had a bunch of
- 29:09Speaker 1: guys who have been around for a while. Bruski stroke
- 29:13Speaker 1: obviously that without you didn't see that coming. But Fiffer,
- 29:16Speaker 1: you know, I think Johnson was gone at that point.
- 29:18Speaker 1: So you know, I don't know. I'm just I'm getting
- 29:20Speaker 1: the vibe of these positions at cornerback and linebacker that
- 29:22Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you're gonna look out there and
- 29:24Speaker 1: you're like Monty Bisle, like Chad Brown, like you know,
- 29:29Speaker 1: all of a sudden. It just goes from like a
- 29:31Speaker 1: defense that is established and you're like, God, I love
- 29:33Speaker 1: these guys that trust him to Like, I guess we're
- 29:36Speaker 1: gonna try to do it with this new group. Now.
- 29:38Speaker 1: That's what it feels like. I think. I think it's
- 29:40Speaker 1: not just the Patriots, but you get you get caught
- 29:42Speaker 1: in positions in a certain position, you know, like because
- 29:46Speaker 1: of the cycle, and it's like, oh, this is the
- 29:48Speaker 1: year that we're going to be short here, and you
- 29:49Speaker 1: just got to work through it, you know, you know,
- 29:52Speaker 1: because like you said, during the Dynasty, that happened and
- 29:56Speaker 1: they just had to work through it. I I remember
- 29:59Speaker 1: the Monty Bis Chad Brown era. I remember Chad Brown
- 30:02Speaker 1: being folded up like a folding chair in Denver and
- 30:05Speaker 1: Monnie Bisel, you know, couldn't play. They didn't I couldn't play.
- 30:09Speaker 1: It was awful. Chad Brown was a good player who
- 30:11Speaker 1: was passed this right and then they kind of outside
- 30:13Speaker 1: linebacker and they had him like inside the Babel was
- 30:16Speaker 1: moving inside, had a linebacker drives around in a Mini Cooper.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I mean that was ridiculous. How do you remember, Yeah, yeah, hey,
- 30:26Speaker 1: how do you remember that? And be I remember that?
- 30:28Speaker 1: I just struck me. It's like, why wouldn't you want
- 30:31Speaker 1: to be comfortable? What you think he wasn't comfortable? And
- 30:34Speaker 1: a Mini Cooper, Well, the car is not mini like
- 30:37Speaker 1: for he's not like driving like a clown car now,
- 30:39Speaker 1: but they're small cars, big enough for a linebacker to
- 30:43Speaker 1: fit in. I don't know, this is what I was
- 30:44Speaker 1: looking for when I asked about two thousand and five,
- 30:46Speaker 1: what was Chad Brown driving? I just you know, did
- 30:49Speaker 1: you ask about two thousand and five? Well that was
- 30:51Speaker 1: where he brought it up, because I think it's a
- 30:52Speaker 1: great like when you said it, I was like, I
- 30:55Speaker 1: remember what defense was stacked and it's not really cut.
- 30:59Speaker 1: But then you started talking talking about some of the
- 31:01Speaker 1: different pieces that they had, and I was like, huh, yeah,
- 31:04Speaker 1: it's not you get stuck. It's not all that different. Yeah,
- 31:06Speaker 1: I mean that's a different like that's what makes football
- 31:10Speaker 1: great but also more complicated. You have so many pieces
- 31:13Speaker 1: that you have to you know, take care of every year,
- 31:17Speaker 1: so you know, it's not like basketball or hockey and
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know sation yeah yeah, and then you put the
- 31:22Speaker 1: guys in the Sometimes when you get to a certain
- 31:25Speaker 1: position group, you know there's a year or two where
- 31:28Speaker 1: you're kind of stuck. You know, you're in that cycle
- 31:31Speaker 1: because you can't replenish every position every year, you know,
- 31:35Speaker 1: especially with what the Pagers are going through. Now, you
- 31:37Speaker 1: know it's it's there's going to be a position this
- 31:41Speaker 1: year that they're going to be not good at, you know,
- 31:49Speaker 1: I mean, and they're gonna have to figure out how
- 31:51Speaker 1: to hide that. Yeah, And I mean, and I bring
- 31:53Speaker 1: that up less like you know, one for one player,
- 31:55Speaker 1: just as like a fan going from these players that
- 31:59Speaker 1: you've been watching orever that you trust on the high tower,
- 32:02Speaker 1: like you know, for example, to these new play these
- 32:04Speaker 1: new guys that you're trying to sell yourself on. Are
- 32:07Speaker 1: they are they patriots? Ye? Are they going to be
- 32:10Speaker 1: able to keep it going? Or like you know, is
- 32:12Speaker 1: the magic just happened that they come in? And I mean,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I think that year was a little bit of a
- 32:17Speaker 1: of a reminder. But then you know, I also think
- 32:18Speaker 1: that you look at the turnover on defense, oh nine
- 32:22Speaker 1: ten those you know, you gotta find these gems like
- 32:24Speaker 1: you gotta find a Rob Nikovich, you know, you got
- 32:27Speaker 1: to find a cast off long snapper. Then nobody's talking
- 32:29Speaker 1: about that all of a sudden knows how to play
- 32:31Speaker 1: or you and you got to hit the draft out
- 32:33Speaker 1: of the park. So I mean, I understand right now
- 32:36Speaker 1: after what happened in Buffalo and how the off season's
- 32:38Speaker 1: gone and people are like, we need to get better,
- 32:40Speaker 1: and right now it seems like you're at best tread
- 32:42Speaker 1: and water what you got. There's time to go. But
- 32:46Speaker 1: at the same time, like I think it's just shining
- 32:48Speaker 1: a light on how badly they need to really get
- 32:52Speaker 1: some players in here. And it's probably the draft, but
- 32:55Speaker 1: maybe a free agent gem that that nobody's gonna talk
- 32:57Speaker 1: about and we're gonna you know, maybe it's this guy today,
- 33:00Speaker 1: Mac mac Wilson. But I think you know, we talked
- 33:07Speaker 1: about it last show, you know, when they got rid
- 33:09Speaker 1: of Van noy Um and now they got rid of Winovich.
- 33:14Speaker 1: What we were saying about that linebacking corps is well again, yeah,
- 33:18Speaker 1: if they're they're telling us that they agreed, right, But
- 33:21Speaker 1: you know, yeah, as far as getting rid of those guys.
- 33:23Speaker 1: But like, is mac Wilson gonna play defense? That's the
- 33:26Speaker 1: question I brought up at the start. Did they trade
- 33:28Speaker 1: for him to play defense or special teams? Because Fred
- 33:31Speaker 1: asked at the start of the show are they better
- 33:32Speaker 1: because of this trade? And I said, well, if tell
- 33:35Speaker 1: me incremental? Yeah, But I said, tell me is he
- 33:37Speaker 1: gonna play defense or just special teams? Because if he's
- 33:39Speaker 1: just playing special teams, I don't think they're better better
- 33:42Speaker 1: from last year. No, over Winkovich, Like did they trade that? Yeah?
- 33:48Speaker 1: They don't play the same position, so it's not apples
- 33:50Speaker 1: to apples. Yeah, Winovich is an outside edge guy and
- 33:52Speaker 1: Wilson isn't off off the ball inside gap. Yeah, so
- 33:56Speaker 1: they're not really the same, right. Well, I mean, like,
- 33:58Speaker 1: and who's to say what the in Avich to Ronnie
- 34:00Speaker 1: Perkins is gonna be to what Mac Wilson to uh Rayon? Like,
- 34:10Speaker 1: it's is he better than Jawan Bentley? Because that looks
- 34:13Speaker 1: like the guy I think that's I think that's an
- 34:15Speaker 1: interesting name to bring up. And is this signal because
- 34:17Speaker 1: if that's the swap that they're that they're not gonna
- 34:20Speaker 1: go forward, which I'm surprised. I thought that Jawan Bentley
- 34:23Speaker 1: was going to come back and that was going to
- 34:24Speaker 1: be the move that everybody's like, they're not gonna change
- 34:26Speaker 1: the linemaker position. He's not fascinating, you know, like it
- 34:29Speaker 1: will freak people out but I think Joanni Tavy might
- 34:31Speaker 1: kind of be that thumper dude anyway. And see, I
- 34:33Speaker 1: think Bentley is Bentley is smaller than most of those
- 34:37Speaker 1: guys that he usually has two He's just not um.
- 34:41Speaker 1: He's not as small as Wilson. Like I like, despite
- 34:46Speaker 1: what I just wrote, I wouldn't be surprised if Bill
- 34:48Speaker 1: Belichick just says, yeah, yeah, I'm good two hundred thirty
- 34:51Speaker 1: pind guy. Yeah, I'm gonna pu him in there, like
- 34:53Speaker 1: talk about going cold Turkey and just completely switching from
- 34:57Speaker 1: two fifty plus to I don't buy a small I
- 35:00Speaker 1: only need to see that before I believe that he's
- 35:02Speaker 1: going to do that. I think he probably feels that
- 35:04Speaker 1: mac Wilson is a better alternative than a guy like
- 35:07Speaker 1: to buy um to fill in to play different roles
- 35:12Speaker 1: and maybe you know, he'll definitely play special teams. I
- 35:16Speaker 1: think I think that he's looking at that kind of
- 35:18Speaker 1: a thing, and maybe he feels like with Ronnie Perkins
- 35:21Speaker 1: and Josh Oocha and some of those guys, he has
- 35:24Speaker 1: some guys that might factor in on the edges. So
- 35:27Speaker 1: Winovich was expendable, Let's get some more depth on the inside.
- 35:31Speaker 1: But like you bring up ray Kuan McMillan. Don't you
- 35:35Speaker 1: have to expect to see ray Kuan McMillan out there
- 35:36Speaker 1: at the start of training camp calling the defense, calling
- 35:39Speaker 1: like and you're like, yeah, what are we doing? Yeah?
- 35:42Speaker 1: Here we go. Yeah, that's what I kind of expect.
- 35:44Speaker 1: He could be out there to start the start camp.
- 35:46Speaker 1: But will he be there at the start of the
- 35:48Speaker 1: regular season. Well, as long as he's healthy. Yeah, if
- 35:50Speaker 1: he starts camp, that's what he'll feel like. That's well,
- 35:54Speaker 1: you know, and how many times do you see that change?
- 35:56Speaker 1: Like when the first thing that we see, you know,
- 36:00Speaker 1: with a veteran like rookies that they go in and
- 36:02Speaker 1: out all the time, you know, oh wow, Miles Bryant's
- 36:04Speaker 1: getting a lot of run today. And you know, I'm
- 36:06Speaker 1: not making fun of anybody. I'd write it too, but
- 36:10Speaker 1: when you see like a veteran like ray Kwon McMillan, well,
- 36:12Speaker 1: I just wonder. I just wonder if coming off the
- 36:16Speaker 1: knee injury, whether they put him out there to start
- 36:19Speaker 1: saying okay, let's go, and then they see, boy, he
- 36:21Speaker 1: really just doesn't have it and oh that could he
- 36:23Speaker 1: know what I mean, Yeah, that could happen. Absolutely. That's
- 36:25Speaker 1: why I said, if he's healthy. Yeah. I also just
- 36:27Speaker 1: wonder what's happening on the edges of the defense. I mean,
- 36:30Speaker 1: I think we've talked playing about the run defense, and
- 36:33Speaker 1: you know, say what you will about Dante hide Tower,
- 36:35Speaker 1: but I think he's the last year set the edge
- 36:37Speaker 1: when he needed to set the edge. I don't know
- 36:39Speaker 1: who's set in the edge now. I don't know who's
- 36:41Speaker 1: going to set the edge of the of the side.
- 36:42Speaker 1: You got Matthew Jude on one side, okay, but you know,
- 36:46Speaker 1: I just I think there's some holes glaring right now.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Things that I really think, just from like a basic
- 36:51Speaker 1: football perspective, you need and you don't have a young,
- 36:55Speaker 1: tough edge guy right now. You have Jude on And
- 36:58Speaker 1: that's about it is Ted Carriss not coming back. A
- 37:02Speaker 1: sneaky kind of loss. That's a little underrated because you
- 37:08Speaker 1: know that that line was having trouble last year and
- 37:11Speaker 1: obviously when Trent Brown came back, that help, but it
- 37:13Speaker 1: also helped when they inserted Carriss at guard. It did. Yeah,
- 37:18Speaker 1: I think that was a good point of conversation throughout
- 37:20Speaker 1: the year of like you know, maybe one for one,
- 37:22Speaker 1: maybe you like the skill set of and when you
- 37:24Speaker 1: a little better. But it just worked better with Ted Carriss,
- 37:26Speaker 1: whether it's experience or you know, just his you know,
- 37:29Speaker 1: comfortability within New England. I think it just depends on
- 37:32Speaker 1: how you feel about a when you if you're pff,
- 37:34Speaker 1: You're like, well, of course they'd let Ted Carriss walk.
- 37:36Speaker 1: They've got the best guard in the league and Michael
- 37:38Speaker 1: and went to playing right, so you know. But but again,
- 37:43Speaker 1: another you know, conversation Paul and I had is like,
- 37:46Speaker 1: you know, for for all the positive that you say
- 37:47Speaker 1: about Michael and when you he's not Logan Mankins. He's
- 37:50Speaker 1: not a day one walk in. Guess what, I'm playing
- 37:53Speaker 1: left guard and you're gonna have to drag me out
- 37:55Speaker 1: of here, Like I mean, for whatever reason, he's moved
- 37:57Speaker 1: around a little bit um so I like that move.
- 38:00Speaker 1: And Mike and I did talk about this a little bit,
- 38:02Speaker 1: and the reason is, like I look at some of
- 38:04Speaker 1: the things they've done in the last few years and
- 38:06Speaker 1: I've been like, you don't need to give Shaq Mason
- 38:09Speaker 1: this big extension. You don't need to franchise tag Joe Tuney, like,
- 38:14Speaker 1: just get the next guy, like Ted Carriss, was there
- 38:17Speaker 1: a market drop off between Joe Tuney and Ted Carriss
- 38:20Speaker 1: last year, Like did you look at Ted Carris and say, wow,
- 38:24Speaker 1: they really I'm not saying Joe Tuney's not a better player.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I'm not being like a Patriots homer and saying wow,
- 38:29Speaker 1: they were right till that Tuney. No, I'm not saying
- 38:31Speaker 1: that at all. Joe Tuney's a better player than Ted Carriss.
- 38:34Speaker 1: But did you look at that spot and say, wow,
- 38:36Speaker 1: we really miss Joe Tuney at left guard? It doesn't,
- 38:39Speaker 1: and I don't think you'll miss Ted Carriss at left
- 38:42Speaker 1: To the layman, it doesn't seem like it was a
- 38:44Speaker 1: drop off, but like who knows when they go in
- 38:47Speaker 1: the film room what they know, Like maybe it was
- 38:50Speaker 1: and we just don't realize it. But I'm just telling you,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I don't know. You're right, and I don't I don't
- 38:55Speaker 1: ever pretend to be an expert on offensive line play.
- 38:58Speaker 1: You're absolutely right, Freddie, But when you watched the games,
- 39:01Speaker 1: did you look at that and say, wow, Ted Carriss
- 39:03Speaker 1: is getting overwhelmed. They need to make a move there,
- 39:06Speaker 1: like they're like or when when you was playing, like
- 39:10Speaker 1: they had some issues there's no question early in the
- 39:12Speaker 1: year they had something. They also had a lot of
- 39:14Speaker 1: moving parts. There were guys in and out of the
- 39:16Speaker 1: lineup constantly early in the year, and once Carris went in.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I kind of think it was more coincidental than it was,
- 39:24Speaker 1: you know, as a result of a drastic upgrade between
- 39:27Speaker 1: Harris stabilization, right. I just think it kind of it
- 39:32Speaker 1: coincided with the line jelling a little bit, and Carris
- 39:35Speaker 1: was the beneficiary. I think, O, when you will play,
- 39:39Speaker 1: he's gonna start somewhere. If Brown comes back, he'll start
- 39:42Speaker 1: definitely at guard. If Brown doesn't come back and they
- 39:44Speaker 1: need to replace both, they have a decision. I think, O,
- 39:47Speaker 1: when you will stay at guard either way, and Haran
- 39:49Speaker 1: might be the right tackle, and then we'll start to
- 39:52Speaker 1: look at things. But I don't think a when you
- 39:54Speaker 1: was a problem. I think he was a good young player.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I don't think he's great. But I like the idea
- 39:59Speaker 1: of saying, yeah, Ted, Carris did a nice job for
- 40:02Speaker 1: us last year. Six million a year. Okay, thanks Ted,
- 40:06Speaker 1: I'm good with that. You know, we're all like, we
- 40:08Speaker 1: gotta improved where we got improve the line, gott improve cornerback, linebacker,
- 40:12Speaker 1: and then Bill says we can't improve special teams. Let's
- 40:14Speaker 1: bring in mac Wilson. Johnny Hecker is available too. I
- 40:18Speaker 1: don't know a punterer move. He's leave the punter alone.
- 40:23Speaker 1: He's fine. Eric, you you you are very very defensive
- 40:27Speaker 1: of I get of my special teams, I know, but
- 40:30Speaker 1: Hecker he's a weapon. I like Bailey. He's our guy
- 40:34Speaker 1: two years for full what's the guy, the San Jose
- 40:36Speaker 1: State guy? Oh Arizon, Yeah, the punt god. Yeah, he's
- 40:43Speaker 1: the guy coming left footed. That's right. I don't need
- 40:47Speaker 1: an offense anymore, except the punter only plays when you're
- 40:52Speaker 1: off exactly. Eight five five pass five hundred is the
- 40:57Speaker 1: a stick at line web radio at Patriots dot com.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Let's open it up, see what people are thinking about, right, Yeah,
- 41:04Speaker 1: we'll start with Chris with a T. I A N.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Can't wait to stop. Christian. Hey, guys, what's happening? Hey?
- 41:11Speaker 1: Not much over here? Literally, I am. You know. I
- 41:16Speaker 1: didn't expect expect him to do that much coming off
- 41:19Speaker 1: the last year, obviously, and I figured Jackson was gone.
- 41:23Speaker 1: You know my I kind of have like a hope
- 41:27Speaker 1: and a worry at the same time. You know, the
- 41:29Speaker 1: hope is that the guys that they signed last year
- 41:32Speaker 1: obviously get better if they stay here. Um, and then
- 41:36Speaker 1: the guys that were you know, good last year improved.
- 41:40Speaker 1: My My, my question to you is is the coaching
- 41:43Speaker 1: in place to do that? Yeah, you have Bill, but
- 41:48Speaker 1: I don't know how good Mayo and Steve are And
- 41:52Speaker 1: I have no idea on offense who's who and who's
- 41:56Speaker 1: doing what and who's good enough to for those guys
- 41:59Speaker 1: taking step next step. Like if Josh was there, I
- 42:02Speaker 1: feel a lot better obviously, but he's not, so, you know,
- 42:05Speaker 1: and I just that's my concern. Like you've dole out
- 42:09Speaker 1: a ton of money last year, you better get something
- 42:12Speaker 1: from Joe Husmith this year. Um, I lost all faith
- 42:16Speaker 1: in Harry. But I'm hoping that guys like uh, you know,
- 42:20Speaker 1: m Jacoby Buyers and Kendrick Bourne can take another step. Um.
- 42:25Speaker 1: I don't know if they fit there seiling it. So
- 42:27Speaker 1: that's kind of like where I'm coming from, Like I
- 42:29Speaker 1: didn't expect them to make big moves, but I do
- 42:33Speaker 1: worry about going into the season, like and they got
- 42:35Speaker 1: to nail another draft again, like they got to get
- 42:38Speaker 1: another exactly that might be the most important element out
- 42:41Speaker 1: of everything that you talked to. Absolutely, they need more
- 42:44Speaker 1: young players. That that's my concern about what they did
- 42:47Speaker 1: yesterday is it's great to bring back the band, but
- 42:50Speaker 1: you know, thirty seven, thirty seven, thirty five, thirty four,
- 42:54Speaker 1: like they need to get younger, and resigning all of
- 42:57Speaker 1: your thirty something year old veterans isn't the way to
- 42:59Speaker 1: do it. Yeah, And they need Dev back there, Like
- 43:02Speaker 1: I didn't mind that, Like I I think that I
- 43:06Speaker 1: love having him there for guys like Dugger, you know,
- 43:09Speaker 1: um to continue to learn from a mentor so. And
- 43:12Speaker 1: I quite frankly I think they need him. I mean
- 43:14Speaker 1: even with Phillips, uh, you know back there, and I
- 43:17Speaker 1: starting to think, I'm I might be too high on Dugger.
- 43:20Speaker 1: You might be I might be okay, And that almost
- 43:22Speaker 1: never happens on this show. No, No, I mean I thought,
- 43:24Speaker 1: I remember last year, like there were times where we
- 43:26Speaker 1: were like, oh, Dugger's not quite taking the second year
- 43:28Speaker 1: league Phips. Last time Paul was high on somebody who
- 43:33Speaker 1: was on the Patriots, he got traded a Buffalo. Oh,
- 43:40Speaker 1: I just shake your head and said, he said, all right,
- 43:46Speaker 1: said all right, I think I'm one. I'm worrying that
- 43:49Speaker 1: maybe I'm a little higher, like, what is wrong with
- 43:52Speaker 1: the tandem of Phillips and Unner Like nothing that we
- 43:55Speaker 1: had to have this guy back for nine million plus
- 43:58Speaker 1: more money on I think we're good at debt safety.
- 44:02Speaker 1: I just yeah, I'm finally I think just a point
- 44:06Speaker 1: though to to Christian though, is I mean, I think
- 44:08Speaker 1: you've seen this kind of defensive coaching configuration the last
- 44:12Speaker 1: few years. But you know, especially for Steve and Gerard,
- 44:15Speaker 1: they've had a veteran group and so now I think
- 44:18Speaker 1: you're really going to see what those guys have because
- 44:20Speaker 1: there probably is. We've been talking about going to have
- 44:23Speaker 1: a bunch of new players that they're going to have to,
- 44:25Speaker 1: you know, not only teach the system, but figure out
- 44:28Speaker 1: what they do well and adapt and and you know,
- 44:30Speaker 1: maybe bring their own twist to this new thing, because
- 44:32Speaker 1: it's not all right, we know we can do this
- 44:34Speaker 1: with VANOI will do this with High Tower. Put Collins
- 44:36Speaker 1: over there, you know, like it's it's it's gonna be
- 44:38Speaker 1: all new to them too. And if you're going to
- 44:40Speaker 1: have less of the head coach involved on the defensive side,
- 44:42Speaker 1: then I think it's even more on them. So that
- 44:45Speaker 1: that that's what I'll be interested to see, is is
- 44:47Speaker 1: how they manage this and who else they bring in?
- 44:49Speaker 1: Would you would is it fair to say that the
- 44:51Speaker 1: younger your players, the more your coaches should be experienced
- 44:56Speaker 1: that that's another point that Mike. When Mike was talking,
- 44:59Speaker 1: that kind of made me worry a little more. And
- 45:01Speaker 1: maybe that's why they feel like they had to have mccordy,
- 45:03Speaker 1: because right they're not awfully confident in the instruction. And
- 45:06Speaker 1: I mean, and you know, it was also just another
- 45:08Speaker 1: button on it is that Steve Belichick was really involved
- 45:10Speaker 1: with Ronnie Perkins. So you know, it's the guy you wanted.
- 45:14Speaker 1: You're gonna get to go, get a chance to play. Now,
- 45:16Speaker 1: we'll see what you can do with them. Collaborative, COLLABORI
- 45:19Speaker 1: collection one other thing, just to say real quick, um
- 45:21Speaker 1: for another Alabama guy the Bills. The Bills are adding JD. McKissick,
- 45:25Speaker 1: which is a you know, a good receiving back kind
- 45:28Speaker 1: of interesting move. Just somebody I kind of on my
- 45:29Speaker 1: radar a little bit with with the Patriots, but you know,
- 45:32Speaker 1: just more what they wanted, what they wanted that stiff
- 45:35Speaker 1: breeder to do for them last year. Yeah, I think
- 45:38Speaker 1: it's a good, good little signing for them. Let's go
- 45:41Speaker 1: to Eldred in North Carolina. Eldred, I'm just dropping the
- 45:44Speaker 1: ball in that Monday and game for no reason. Hey,
- 45:46Speaker 1: how y'all doing good? I'm not happy. There's a surprise.
- 45:51Speaker 1: You don't want to say it, but I'm gonna say
- 45:52Speaker 1: it's like, hey, no, no, I gotta say the average.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I would have got my hunt honey badger and been
- 46:01Speaker 1: happy with him because, like I said, I don't I
- 46:03Speaker 1: don't remember seeing a forty last year or your full
- 46:06Speaker 1: as impact place. I don't see it as I'm safety
- 46:09Speaker 1: for eighty something millions. That's a bunch of bull that's
- 46:13Speaker 1: a bunch of bulls. And like I said, Jim, I
- 46:15Speaker 1: don't like it. Coach, I love him to death. Jim
- 46:19Speaker 1: I never did like like some of his move He
- 46:21Speaker 1: always paid his buddies. You always paid the foot soldiers
- 46:24Speaker 1: that told that line in whatever. But no, million's not
- 46:27Speaker 1: do for leadership, especially when you can't lead on the field.
- 46:31Speaker 1: You lead by example. Yeah, and I'm like, no, yeah,
- 46:34Speaker 1: I would have. I would have kept j T. You know,
- 46:37Speaker 1: I have corners because you got some safeties, but you
- 46:40Speaker 1: ain't got no corners. Would you would rather have signed
- 46:43Speaker 1: j C. Jackson, fred or resigned mccordy. If you can
- 46:46Speaker 1: only have one j C. Jackson, me too. J C. Jackson,
- 46:49Speaker 1: me too. And I'm not I'm not shedding tears that
- 46:52Speaker 1: JC Jackson's gone. I've been pretty consistent. I think he's
- 46:55Speaker 1: a good player, not a great player, but I would him.
- 46:58Speaker 1: I would rather have kept him now. And then did
- 47:03Speaker 1: you get another corner in the draft or someone like that,
- 47:06Speaker 1: and then you may have a tandem on it. But
- 47:08Speaker 1: right now you got five nine, five eleven flow corners
- 47:12Speaker 1: and it's gonna be an air attack all year long. See,
- 47:16Speaker 1: I hear what you're saying. It's just and and yes,
- 47:20Speaker 1: McCardy didn't make any big dynamic plays. He's not. You know,
- 47:24Speaker 1: I thought there was a drop off flash, you know,
- 47:27Speaker 1: in the minority. But I think what the coaches would
- 47:31Speaker 1: tell us is you don't understand what he's doing out there.
- 47:35Speaker 1: That's why you don't think that he had an impact. Well,
- 47:37Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to use that as the barometer,
- 47:40Speaker 1: then why do we talk about any of this? No, no,
- 47:42Speaker 1: but but obviously the coaches know a lot more than
- 47:45Speaker 1: we do. No, I know. But but in terms in
- 47:49Speaker 1: terms of getting the calls, making sure people in there.
- 47:52Speaker 1: You know. Now, now the whole new corners, the whole
- 47:54Speaker 1: defense played terribly in December, including him, you know, like
- 47:59Speaker 1: you have to include everybody in that conversation at the
- 48:03Speaker 1: end of the season, like, now, why that happened is
- 48:06Speaker 1: something that they need to figure out, and they're never
- 48:08Speaker 1: gonna tell us the answer. But no one played well
- 48:12Speaker 1: at the end, you know, and he's part of that, right,
- 48:16Speaker 1: and we decided to bring the band back together. One
- 48:20Speaker 1: more question I have to run. Would you keep Jacobe
- 48:24Speaker 1: Myers instead of let him walk get a stuck around,
- 48:27Speaker 1: cause you really ain't got no receiver and Harry ain't
- 48:29Speaker 1: gonna never jump to a first round in the NAP
- 48:32Speaker 1: five years Well, they tended Myers right right, yes? Yeah,
- 48:36Speaker 1: So so would you take a second round? I think yeah.
- 48:38Speaker 1: His his question is if someone you know shows interesting,
- 48:41Speaker 1: Jakobe Myers, would you take the second round pick for
- 48:43Speaker 1: him or do you feel like you need the receiver
- 48:45Speaker 1: too much? To you need receiver? I do think you
- 48:49Speaker 1: need the receiver, but I think you could get a
- 48:50Speaker 1: second that's probably more. Okay, that's the thing. Are you
- 48:55Speaker 1: gonna get somebody that's better than him in the second
- 48:57Speaker 1: round and maybe maybe not immediately. I certainly would think so. Yeah,
- 49:00Speaker 1: but wow, well I think he's pretty good. And the
- 49:03Speaker 1: second in the second round, yeah, you might get somebody better.
- 49:07Speaker 1: You gotta be able to get a better second. I
- 49:08Speaker 1: don't know, you have to. Yeah, I mean I know that,
- 49:13Speaker 1: all right, thanks, Aldred. I know everybody looks at everybody
- 49:19Speaker 1: looks at Belichick's track record or wide receivers, and I
- 49:22Speaker 1: think that they're scared to death of it. But there's
- 49:24Speaker 1: a lot of good receivers in the second round. Yeah.
- 49:28Speaker 1: But you know, Jacobe Myers, what was he drafted in?
- 49:31Speaker 1: There wasn't But now, like where would he be drafted? Like,
- 49:36Speaker 1: not knowing what he is? Now, where do you think
- 49:38Speaker 1: he would be drafted three? Early day three? I mean,
- 49:42Speaker 1: I still don't think he has the measurables to like
- 49:46Speaker 1: light it up. But I mean I would still say
- 49:49Speaker 1: he's better than like the Slate Bolden guy that everybody loves.
- 49:51Speaker 1: But you know, I think he's got good size and
- 49:53Speaker 1: good athleticism, but I just don't think he has the
- 49:55Speaker 1: any any plus, you know, one of those things in
- 49:57Speaker 1: the scouting combine where they're gonna say, oh, I agree
- 50:00Speaker 1: with Mike. I think you'd get drafted. I don't know
- 50:03Speaker 1: how high, but I think you would be drafted somewhere
- 50:06Speaker 1: in there. Yeah, we didn't talk at all about Deshaun Watson.
- 50:11Speaker 1: You know, awhere Saints and Carolina sounds I mean Falcons,
- 50:15Speaker 1: and I thought the Browns too, and the Browns were
- 50:18Speaker 1: another one. Yeah, he's talked I think to the Saints, Panthers,
- 50:22Speaker 1: and Browns. Well, I heard that the only two teams
- 50:25Speaker 1: that he would allow to be traded to were the
- 50:27Speaker 1: Saints and the Panthers. But now it seems to open
- 50:30Speaker 1: up something. Sat Atlanta was a dark horse. I mean
- 50:33Speaker 1: we saw something that that John mcclein and San Francisco
- 50:36Speaker 1: is possibly lingering too. Yeah. John McClean retweeted somebody from
- 50:40Speaker 1: Carolina that said that that they have a deal in
- 50:43Speaker 1: place for him that would include Brian Burns, Jeremy Chin
- 50:47Speaker 1: and two two three, three ones and two good young players,
- 50:52Speaker 1: which would be a good haul for Houston, I think.
- 50:55Speaker 1: But I mean, the only thing that makes sense to me,
- 50:57Speaker 1: Like I know that Indie looked into it in the category.
- 51:01Speaker 1: You're not going to trade him in the division. I
- 51:03Speaker 1: think anything else would be I don't think you want
- 51:05Speaker 1: him in your own division. Um, you know in his prime.
- 51:08Speaker 1: It's not like Drew. You know, back in the day
- 51:11Speaker 1: when Drew was sort of, you know, nearing the end. Yeah,
- 51:14Speaker 1: you know what, you didn't really care where he went.
- 51:17Speaker 1: This guy's twenty six years old. He could kill you
- 51:19Speaker 1: for another ten years. Yep. So all right, let's go
- 51:23Speaker 1: to William and Philham. What's up, William Fellas, what's going on.
- 51:27Speaker 1: How y'all doing good? Good? Okay? Um um saying I'm
- 51:33Speaker 1: with you, Paul, Kyle Dugg, I'm high on him. I'm
- 51:36Speaker 1: a fan, man. No, if you want to add the
- 51:38Speaker 1: Honey Badger, fine, but don't get rid of Kyle Dugger. Nah.
- 51:42Speaker 1: May I'm a fan on that one, definitely. And and
- 51:47Speaker 1: you're right too also, Paul. You know Bill's drafting on
- 51:50Speaker 1: wide receiver. It just hears the hell out of it.
- 51:52Speaker 1: I'm one of those one of those fans. Yeah, it does,
- 51:55Speaker 1: because I'm telling you, every year we used to have
- 51:57Speaker 1: I guess you said in the draft it always was
- 51:58Speaker 1: a good receiver. Bill, Just I don't know what the
- 52:02Speaker 1: hell he'd be thinking. Man, Honestly, don't buy it's something
- 52:04Speaker 1: really wrong with you. As the coach, he's the greatest
- 52:07Speaker 1: of all time with it, but as the GM, he
- 52:09Speaker 1: stuck man like y'all, y'all gotta call it what it is, like, y'all,
- 52:12Speaker 1: that's the scout candle that for real. He needs to
- 52:15Speaker 1: let the scout cander, not him. I'm sorry, is this it?
- 52:18Speaker 1: And Miles Jack I would love to have him, So yeah,
- 52:21Speaker 1: that's all right, thanks William. I just want to kind
- 52:24Speaker 1: of just to defend my bringing up to Kyle Dugger's
- 52:27Speaker 1: name earlier, and just because I didn't say I wanted
- 52:31Speaker 1: to trade him. I said he's a potential guy that
- 52:35Speaker 1: you could put on the trade market in mid season,
- 52:39Speaker 1: before the trade deadline if he starts playing like he
- 52:42Speaker 1: did last year. Because I remember at the beginning of
- 52:44Speaker 1: last year, we were saying coming out of camp, coming
- 52:46Speaker 1: out of the preseason, he's not quite what we thought
- 52:49Speaker 1: we were getting coming into the year two. He was
- 52:52Speaker 1: a little weak in coverage. He made a couple of
- 52:54Speaker 1: nice plays, you know, tackles open field, that kind of thing,
- 52:57Speaker 1: but we saw him and I remember all of us saying, boy,
- 53:00Speaker 1: he's not really playing kind of the way we thought.
- 53:02Speaker 1: End of the season, he made a couple of nice plays.
- 53:04Speaker 1: He had that pick in the Jacksonville game, but everybody
- 53:06Speaker 1: played well in that game. So I just want to
- 53:09Speaker 1: say that. I'm not saying I want to get rid
- 53:11Speaker 1: of him. I still have hope for him, but I
- 53:13Speaker 1: think he's a guy that you need to look at
- 53:14Speaker 1: as a potential. If he's still not living up to
- 53:17Speaker 1: things in year three, you have to consider it. I
- 53:19Speaker 1: don't think he's great in courage. I think he's adequate,
- 53:22Speaker 1: but I don't think he's great in coverage. I don't
- 53:24Speaker 1: think safeties in general are great in coverage. I don't
- 53:26Speaker 1: think there's a lot of those guys. That's why I
- 53:27Speaker 1: think the Bill's tandem is so impressive. Yeah, let's go
- 53:32Speaker 1: to Rashad in Baltimore, Harashod, Hey, what's up? What's up?
- 53:38Speaker 1: I gotta jump on a cow dugger thing because I'm
- 53:40Speaker 1: definitely a fan of Coward. Okay, you see, I mean
- 53:43Speaker 1: he's young, he's still developing. To mean, is he going
- 53:47Speaker 1: I'm liking I'm liking a jump, I'm liking a jug
- 53:50Speaker 1: Scott forbid, somebody has a different I agree Eric hates him,
- 53:53Speaker 1: but I don't know him. But I wanted to talk about,
- 53:57Speaker 1: like the free agency Umm, I'm guessing I want the
- 54:02Speaker 1: Patriots just to just to just to get a like
- 54:05Speaker 1: a veteran corner like you. I don't even have to
- 54:08Speaker 1: be nobody who going to be here for a long time.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Just somebody can be here just two years, just to help,
- 54:12Speaker 1: because I'm pretty sure we're going to draft a corner,
- 54:15Speaker 1: so just somebody who can help. They should have just
- 54:18Speaker 1: franchised jac Jackson. You know, like, I agree with you.
- 54:22Speaker 1: I'm with you. I don't think. I don't think he's
- 54:24Speaker 1: looking for a veteran corner to make seventeen million dollars. Well,
- 54:27Speaker 1: I'm still I'm still on my boat. I don't think.
- 54:31Speaker 1: I mean, Jason, he was good, but he's not elite.
- 54:34Speaker 1: He's not elite. He's not only me, he's not only
- 54:38Speaker 1: retired officially good, but he's not He's not worth that money.
- 54:41Speaker 1: And I feel like, I feel like you can say,
- 54:44Speaker 1: three of that contract, they would be trying to renegotiate
- 54:47Speaker 1: or even maybe release him because he's not gonna be
- 54:50Speaker 1: performing to the values of the contract and how they think,
- 54:54Speaker 1: how they think they, you know, according toupposed to be.
- 54:56Speaker 1: So here's the conundrum, though, shot, he's not elite but
- 54:59Speaker 1: any one at his level in today's NFL is going
- 55:02Speaker 1: to get paid that money. You know, that's the problem.
- 55:07Speaker 1: So if you don't want to pay that money, fine,
- 55:09Speaker 1: but you're not going to get a cornerback, even as
- 55:11Speaker 1: good as J. C. Jackson, you know, all right, No,
- 55:16Speaker 1: I get it. I hear what you say in Richard,

- 1:05:56Speaker 1: you didn't. I was asking something. I was on part

- 1:06:03Speaker 1: I've ever seen. Yeah, do you file that. We're just
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: talking about how you know, and when we're doing the show,
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: we should reference just look, the animals need the trees. Eric,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: think about that. My second question is whether you guys
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: think that's another great moment from all right, Welcome back
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: to Patriots Unfiltered eight five five ticket Hotline web radio
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com. It's the email address so kind
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: of read some. Yeah, one of the things we were
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: talking about during the break, Uh, that Adam Schefter tweet
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: about Deshaun Watson. You know, I I know he gets
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: very you know, defensive when people say, oh, you're carrying
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: water for this person or that person. But that was
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: obviously just repeating what the agent told him. You know, yeah,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: it seems like he gets locked into communicating with agents
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: and managers and you know, it's like you got to
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: take a second, I think. I mean, I don't know,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: you need you need to develop your sources and you
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: want your sources to trust you. But part of that
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: is like explaining to the source, I'm going to be
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: objective here, and if I write something good it has
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: more weight than if I'm just carrying water and write
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: something good. He didn't have to say anything no, you know,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: negative there, and to me, it's it. I even think
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: this is less about just taking the agent, but just
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: has some common sense, like the fact that he wasn't
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: criminally charged with anything does not equate innocence, right, which
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: is basically what he intimated with the you know, Watson
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: felt all along the truth. Oh what do we got, Patriots?
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: What do we got? James White? Oh? Okay, resigned, resigned
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: James White to year two point five million? Deal? Can't
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: have enough thirty somethings. Oh, that's it two point five
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: total or per year? That's a total, Tom Pella sero,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: that's a deal. That's a deal? Is it yeah, Okay,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: a million a year for James White guaranteed. That's a deal. Well,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: he's coming off a serious hip injury. I don't worry
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: about it. No, I think he was gonna get like
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: cash in all market, had all kinds of competition for
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: his services. I thought he'd made three four million. He
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: only made three last year when he was healthy. When
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: he was healthy. Now he's coming off a hip surgery. Oh,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: if he's not gonna play, and you know what, we
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: sign him. Obviously they think he's gonna play, right, No,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: I know, but how well Fred like the guy like
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Jamison Williams is coming out of the draft with a
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: twenty acl. He's going to play at some point. We
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: just don't know when, and we don't know how well.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Great deal once again, Patriots chess chess chess. I think
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: take a ten and eight team that got blown off
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: the yield to lose the playoffs and pull a Tampa Bay.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: He wasn't part of that. He wasn't pull a Tampa Bay.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Let's bring the band back, let's keep the band together.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: That it wasn't part of that demise. Somehow, the Super
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: Bowl champs decided to run it back and were mocked
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: and ridiculed for it. I think, but the ten and
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: eight Patriots who got knocked out the first round of
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: the player I think James, I'm not forcing a fourth
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: thound in the game. I think he's a good guy.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Think he's a good guy too. I think he's nice. Yeah,
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: I would disagree with that. One of my favorite all
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: time Patriots. Yeah, I think. Uh. I mean, I think
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: it's something they kind of had to do. I mean
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: that I brought m Kissick before the break. I think
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: they needed a receiving back. He saw some good chemistry
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: between the two low money, you know, the older guy.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: I mean, I like not to dismiss Paul's point about
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: you need young guys to get talented, but I think
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: that that's a given what's out there, what they need,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: what that room needs, what they can afford. It's all
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: about what you've had. Can I ask a question? I
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: have another because I know it's coming. I I want
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: to apologize for two reasons. Number one, I completely cut
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: you off in the middle of a sentence. I want
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: to apologize for that. But a number two, I don't
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: want you to think this has anything to do with
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: anything you've said, because it doesn't. Did the Patriots have
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: a culture issue last year? I don't know. I'm asking
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: what your opinion is, Oh, this is gonna be good.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: I think they might have. I don't know. Okay, I
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: don't know. I didn't sense that at all, but evidently
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: they did. Evidently you're right, because that is the number
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: one priority. And again, no disrespect intended to a lot
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: of guys that I really really like in some cases
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: really really respect, like Mike Reese. Have the utmost respect
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: for Mike reest. If he writes it once, he writes
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: it a hundred times in the last three weeks about
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: the culture fit. And these moves were clearly made with
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: the culture. I wasn't aware that the Patriots had a
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: culture problem. Well, and now I'm a little worried about
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: Now I'm even like you know me, I get worried
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: about random crap. I almost said you almost did, so
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I get worried about a lot of these little things.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: What if it was, well, I'm worried that they had
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: a culture problem that I didn't know about last But
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: if it was less a culture thing than more of
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: differences of opinion among players, you know, and not that's
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: a culture problem. Well, yeah, I mean you guys not
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: on the same page. Yeah, it's not like but now
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: you were brought up your culture not yeah, but no,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: but I know what, I know what you're saying. But
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: it wasn't It was less um you know, like, oh,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I'm not bought into playing football that type of culture
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: thing less than what we're doing. I don't agree with
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: what we're doing. That's a culture problem. That's what I'm
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: talking about. Well, like, yeah, I mean remember the famous
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: quote from Matthew Slader about you know, hey, this can
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: go oh, And I was for that, for being concerned
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: about that, right, right that we hadn't heard anything like
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: that come out of that locker room. And I can't
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: even remember the last grade or something. I see the
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: same who's the one that said, you know you need
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: it's time to look in the mirror? That was later,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I would say, because this could go one of two ways,
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Like you could either pack it up, pack it up
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: and go home and quit or something along those lines. Yeah,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: or we could sider I know what I'm going to
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: do something like that, right, and you had you know,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: we had the um, we have more news over there.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: You look like you have that look on your face.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: We had the quote from Van Noy, I don't remember
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: if it was during the season or right after the season,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: where about like you know judeon oh yeah, being able
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: to run around and do his own thing, which may
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: have had something to do with why he was let go.
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: But you know, you had JC Jack. I wasn't aware
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: there was a culture issue, but now you know, evidently
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: they thought it was really important to get every thirty
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: five year old guy that was on the Patriots last
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: year and retain his services or get rid of before
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: you know, like and the other thing that I don't
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: understand is why all of these moves are being made
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: when everybody else is signing other free agents. Why weren't
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: all these moves made last week, Like get your house
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: in order last week, so you're ready to go this week? Right?
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: But I don't know. I love you know, in all seriouses.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: You know, I love me some James White. Who does
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: I was on James White before he played, I mean
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: that year that he was basically red shirted. I loved
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: the guy. I thought there was a lot of potential there.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: I love James White. I just don't think you needed
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: him back. I don't oh I mean it's basically free all.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: All it is is a roster spot at this point, right,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: And I'd rather have the roster spot with a twenty
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: five year old guy to do that, wow, to see
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: if maybe he can do something over the next three
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: or four years. You know, that doesn't mean we can't. Yeah,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to cut him, but he's
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: costing you someone in that role now, Cap is crap.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: Paul has nothing to do with the cap. He's on
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: the roster. He's gonna fill that role, I know. And
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: don't worry. Bolden's coming back too. You wait, well we'll
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: see about that. But okay, you wait, He's coming to
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Joe you next. Yeah, I mean, I would you be
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: surprised if the fourth round they pick a guy that
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: is a running back, you know, a pass catching running
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: back Cook from Georgia. I would you would be? Yes, Okay,
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: I would based on this signing, I would be. I
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: would not be they only have six draft picks, I
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: would not be. I would be a little more surprised. Now,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: but I do like James Cook from Georgias as a
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: fit Dalvin Cook's brother. Um, but I mean, can we
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: tie the Josh thing into this of losing offensive coordinator.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: We don't really have a coach, you know, having that though, Mac,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: we need one from from Andrey Stevenson too. It's on
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: fire today. I'm not like, I'm not gonna lie it's
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: in his bonnet. I thought, I thought there was a
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: couple of things that were priorities. And I totally agree
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: with your original premise, Fred, that I heard you talking
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: about as I was walking in. We didn't think they
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: were going to go hog wild two years in a row.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: So I'm not disappointed in them for not doing that.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: And that's nothing to do like the whole they don't
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: want to spend money thing nonsense. That's not what I'm
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: talking about. I thought they needed to get faster and younger.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: I've done neither. Okay, retaining old, slow guys is not
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: what I would want to do. This still over twenty
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: roster spots available and guys can get you know, so
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: we'll see right now, you're right, they haven't addressed that yet.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: You know, they have not addressed that yet. Let's go
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: to Christian. If you think they can address it with
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: young guys that cost a lot of money, then you
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: agree with me about the cap. Then what's that. I Well,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: we talked about it as you were. This is another
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: thing we were talking about as you walked in the catridge.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: I let it go. Okay, then I'll let that go.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: That dumb remark, let's go to Christian. Let's go to Christian.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: Then anytime you can sign a guy to a one year,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: nine million dollar deal and his cap numbers less than
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: nine million, the cap is craped. Well because like there's
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: gonna be dead money with mccau like, there's a million
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: ways to do it, a million ways to do No
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: one's saying that you don't have to do things to
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: do it. But that's the only sport that you can
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: get around the cap. Football and hockey you can't do.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: It's a looser cap, absolutely no doubt about it, because
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: fifty three guys, you gotta be somewhat flexible. Christian. What's up,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Hey you guys, Good to talk to you again. Um, so,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: what do you guys think about possibly, you know, pulling
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: an earl Thomas off the scrap heat one two? Give
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: me your top three if we could do it free
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: agent wide receiver and as opposed to your top three,
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: if we can pop to get them. Uh, Draft pick
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: wide receivers and then and then lastly, could you guys
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: possibly explain this double cap thing that Aaron Rodgers did.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: I don't get the map how they they It's like
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: a one time special deal or something like that. Not
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: not familiar with that. Do you have anything you're working
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: off of a report or anything. So supposably they are
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: paying Aaron Rodgers seventy five million dollars over three years
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: I'm sorry, one hundred and fifty million dollars over three years.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: And so what they did was they pushed his contract
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: back three years from twenty twenty four, and they're going
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: to give him a signing bonus each year. Yeah, I
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: mean that seems to like, is that some sort of
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: weird doubles jeopardy is a signing? Yeah, he has I
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: think he has a fifty million dollars roster bonus this
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: year or something like. Yeah, signing bonus is when you signed.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: But then they have these roster bonuses. If you're on
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: the roster by a certain date, it's guaranteed money. You know,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: when he knows. They said that if he doesn't play
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: two years now, if he decided even though he's signed
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: for years, if he decides to walk two years from
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: now that, um, the Packers will be stuck with like
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: sixty eight million dollars of dead money. Okay, so like
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: imagine that and they still signed it. Oh what are
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: we going to do? Yeah? Yeah, onto the question old
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Thomas pull him scrap pet You know, Eric Whytel did
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: well last year. I think he's done. I don't think
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: he can run anymore. I mean, it was a bad
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: ending two for him in Baltimore, wasn't it. There was
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: all kinds of issues with him off the field as well. Yeah,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: I think they're good at safety. If you got any
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: old cornerbacks, I'd probably consider pulling any of them off
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: the scrap heap though, right, Yeah, well, you know I
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: always loved old Thomas Harry sad to see him go.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: I didn't think he was too old to play. Probably
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: just a headcase. Um what about the top three free
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: to wide receivers and your top three uh possible draft pick? Oh,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Alan Robinson's still a help. Yes, that would be the
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: number one. I don't really if you never you never performed, though, guy,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: he's always been like, oh if he had a better quarterback, Obie,
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: if he wasn't hurt. Oh this than that. He's like,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: he's almost like a Nikil Harry to me, you know,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: more more talented. Yeah, but what have you done? Yeah,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: he's better than Nikil Harry. I mean yeah, I don't
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: even put him in the same sentence as Nikkil Harry.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Juju Juju still love the Juju is still out there.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I don't have much interest in him, but there's not
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: that much. But there's not a lot, not a lot
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: of names left at this point. That's what you reduced to. Possibly,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: would you guys possibly see digting deep and getting that
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: Adams and he doesn't want him playing on the cap.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: We give him a little more than the cap. Either,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: he's gonna stay. He's gonna stay in Green Bay. He's
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: gonna stay in Green Bay. Well, they're not trading, they're not.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: You'd have to get they're not they're not getting you'd
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: have to give up a first round pick for him.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: And I think one of the reasons Rogers resigned with
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: them was the understanding, you're keeping Davantae Adams here, so
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: don't even think about him. There was a report yesterday
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: that there was playing the franchise. He's he's going to
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: sign a new contract. He's going to sign a new contra. Wait,
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: did you you heard that he won't He said he
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: won't play. He has said he's not going to play.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: He said, you don't want to play under the franchise,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: which means they're working out a new deal. What if
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: they can't, they will because that's why Rogers stayed there.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: He's not going anywhere. Same guys, The same thing just
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: happened with Randy Gregory, right, the Cowboys tweet. It's different.
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: Find Randy Gregory, it's different. Whoa lo and behold something
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: happened and now he's going to those teams. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: they changed the langue in the contract and he decided
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: to go to one other team. Right, DeVante Adams doesn't
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: have that luxury. He's franchised. I mean, he's nine years in, right,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: and so what if the Packers of thinking, you know,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: DeVante Adams is what he's he's nine ninth seasons in
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: or something. No, DeVante Adams is not entering his tenth year.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: DeVante Adams is not entering his tenth year, is he. Well, anyway,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you what. I want to give you
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: some stats of the guy who never has performed in
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty one hundred and two catches for twelve hundred
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: and fifty nine yards, in twenty nineteen, ninety eight catches
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: for eleven hundred and forty seven yards, in twenty sixteen,
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: seventy three catches for eight hundred and eighty three yards,
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: in twenty thirteen, eighty catches for fourteen hundred yards, and oh,
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: by the way, fourteen touchdowns that year. That's Alan Robins.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: Why he always teeds to be that guy that everyone's
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: waiting for them for him to because he's expensive as hell.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: He's like Brandon Cooks. He got franchised and now he's
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: gonna make bank. You know, Brandon Cooks started his career
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: as a first round draft pick. So he's always been
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: an expensive player, and he has been in two places
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: with terrible quarterback play, Jacksonville and Chicago. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: said guy that said he gets a hundred catches every year.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Do you guys think his route treat matches what Mac
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Jones does? Well? Already do What can you tell me
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: just how to curious out? Now? What did you tell
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: me about the Alan Robinson route tree? Yeah? You know
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: his route tree typically from what I've seen. I just
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: looked at his thing on YouTube. He does a lot
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: of he does a lot of out and a lot
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: of comeback, not a lot across the middle stuff, not
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: a lot of deep stuff. Well they need that too,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: that we need. Yeah, you need every you need, You
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: need talent that. I would take Alan Robinson in a heartbeat. Yeah. Now,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: if you want to tell me he's a little old
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: and you don't want to you think his best years
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: are behind him, I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that. But
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: you can't. You can't tell me he's never produced too.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: You can't tell me he hasn't produced. Yeah, he had
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: one bad year, he's a last year. He got hurt.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: He's a good player, take that back, but one he's
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: already been injured. And how do you put him up
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: against the top three, you know, potential draft pick. Well
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: that's separate. You can still do that, like you can
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: still take I don't want Davante Adams over a draft
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: pick either. I mean, even though DeVante Adams is a
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: thousand times better. Yeah, you can do both. Oh, by
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: the way, it's two years five million for James. Okay,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: that makes more sense. Yeah, that makes it better. Year
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: was twenty fourteen when you saw him in Green Bay
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: beat the Patriots. Uh, and this is will be his
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: ninth year. Thanks questions, he's been around longer than I thought,
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: so again, yeah, I'll take but he's not healthy, Jamison
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: william he's not going. There was there was the rumor
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: yesterday that the Patriots were in were interested in h
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: Valdes Scantling. That's another receiver's name that was kind of
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: out there. But again that wasn't an imminent signing. That
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: was just one of those kind of like rumor mill
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: they might be interested in. I just love to know
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: who they actually are interested in. It's just like there's
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: probably a long list of like guys they've talked to,
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: guys that people made up that they're interested in. Agents
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: they want their guys to be interested Like if you
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: really ask Bill Belichick right now, like who we interested in?
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Like is it a list of like six guys total?
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: You know, like everybody's connected to them constantly. Let's get
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: to some emails, um web Brady or Patriot dot com
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: one and Stratford writes and according to Tom Pella Sera,
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: the contract for is five million, two years, two and
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: a half million from sweet Feet. I hear Paul's point
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: of giving the younger pass catching running back a chance,
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: But from a long term perspective, is it worth it
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: that White mentor Stevenson for the team's future? What are
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: your thoughts. Here's the thing about players mentoring other players.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: That's not their job. Yeah, it's over. I mean it
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: can help and obviously, and all that does just make
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: me worry more that we have a bunch of guys
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: that are lost souls. Well, but we need seven guys
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: thirty five year older to make sure that all these
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: other guys know what to do. But it's otherwise I
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: don't even think anybody to be able to show up
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: to the facility. It does help to have guys who
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: show who you know, show the way by example, you know,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: it does. It does help to have them, But they're
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: not like, you know, sitting down next to players and
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: going over the playbook and all that stuff they're doing.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: They have to they have their own jobs, yes, their
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: own survival to worry about. But does it help to
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: have guys who lead by example? Yes, it does. Yeah,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: and it's and it's hard to ignore the like the
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: reverence that Damian Harris has when talking about James White,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: and like how emotional they got, you know when he left,
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: you know, was hurt. So I think it's good for Mac.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: I think it's good to have another option. I think
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: James White, we'll see if you can still play. I
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: would love because think Damien Harris last year. It's good. Yeah,
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: I agree, Yeah, it's amazing you did that without James White.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: I know. But like there's a certain to building a
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: team that I do not just purely, you know, like
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: you have to put some thought into it, right, Like,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I get it, you're being a little give me one
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: of those guys, maybe two. We have six like guys
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: that don't need the field, but there's a lot of
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: guys that their biggest contribution next year will be mentoring
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: in the locker room leadership. Like it just I don't
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: know how many of those guys should be. I love
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: these players, I love them all, but I always listen
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: to Bill it's better to get rid of these guys
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: a year earlier, but a year late. Right now, now
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: were like three years past time. But now we're really
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: talking about three players at this point, right, Slater, mccordy,
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: and now James White. That's it. Yeah right, I mean,
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: I mean, you're not gonna throw Nick Folk into that group,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: all right? Or Brian Hoyer. I would you would, yeah,
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: because I would rather go with a younger guy at
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: both of those spots. Nick Folk is like, hasn't missed
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: a kick inside fifty yards since Like I'm I'm aware
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: of that, you know, I'm aware of that. On him,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: I a little bit more on pause with rolling the
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: dice on that one Egyptian doesn't matter. I think it's
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: a matter of time. The guy, I mean, at some
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: point he's gonna revert anywhere. And then, like you say, Paul,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: you just get another kicker then you well, but that's
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: your ward's not mine. You have another kicker, Quinn developmental. Yeah,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: he's so. Then you bring him up and you start
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: him on the practice squad once once, folks, you know
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: it looks like he can't do it. Then you have
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: him so great you know, competition. Yeah, I think you're
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: not up in arms over each individual guy. I'm up
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: in arms over all of them. Yeah. But like I said,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: it's only three. Yeah, that's that's too too many in
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: my opinion. Like, I don't be dramatic. I'm not being dramatic.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: I don't understand what the benefit of all of them is,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: you know, and I would say especially Slater once you
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: had the worst special teams in football last year and
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: he's the leader of it. Yeah, and backing up Paul's point,
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: Zolac and Bertram right now, they just had their little
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: how they put like what the topic is that they're
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: talking about? Ye? Are the Patriots headed in the wrong
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: direction signing all these guys in the twilight of their career? Okay?
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Well you know, I just like, I really are not
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: the ones all these guys want me to be. Three guys?
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Do you want me to be snarky? It's five guys?
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Alan Brian Hoyer is you know what happened to like
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: j Jared Sidema is like you can't back up your mind?
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: Does not that matter or not? I can't keep up
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: with you? Sure it does? Okay, So you don't have
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: to pay your backup quarterback with that veteran is making. Yeah,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: you can pay a lot less for a backup quarterback
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: if the cat actually matters. And that has nothing to
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: do with why I don't want Brian Hoyer here. But
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: that's beside the point. I think you can have a
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: better backup quarterback that, if he has to play, is
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: better than Brian Hoyer. All right, but we'll never know
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: because evidently we have a culture problem. To me and
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: I have to fix it. The world's not to me.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: The world's not, you know, falling apart because they signed
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: James White. No, the world's not falling apart because of that.
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: It's falling apart because their roster showed that it wasn't
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: strong enough last year and they decided to go with
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: the same guys. Yeah. Wow, that's what it's falling apart over. Well,
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: you're missing the whole point, you know. I don't think
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: they were good enough when the season ended last year,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: you know, and their solution was let's just keep it
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: all together. I think the linebackers that are so far
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: not returning were more responsible for that than James White
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: who was hurt, or mccordy on the back end as
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: a free safety. I don't blame it on anybody. I
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: don't I don't blame it on anybody. I'm not I'm
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: not blaming I'm just saying those guys weren't the answer.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: They were all here last year, they weren't good So
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: the end of the year. Everyone should go. No, I'm
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: saying let some of them go. They are. They are
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: letting some of them go. They let jac Jackson go
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: to one young guy, and they let Kyle van Noy go.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: That's different. They're probably gonna let Bentley go. Hi High
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: Tower probably will go. High Tower will be an example
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: of this. If I ain't High Tower back, then that's
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: another bad move. The rest of them are all young.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: I would agree with that. You know, now we're getting
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: into like now to me, it's like High Tower in Bentley.
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: Not the same thing. Yeah, letting Bentley go isn't. Oh,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: they're they're doing it. They're letting them go. No, Bentley
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: is a guy that I wouldn't be opposed to resign it.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: High Tower, yes, I would be. I think they need
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: to move on. But Ni again, another thirty something I'm
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: fine with. Okay, so they're doing it. They least one
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: guy friend Paul just doing it columns listen in three
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: weeks Free Agent. I railed against that move last year. Okay,
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: but when they do different things, we'll have different things
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: to talk about. We can only do a show that
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: was on the table. I understand, but they agree with you.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: Then that's right, they did. I don't think they did.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: I don't think they did. I don't know where this
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: like sudden influx of tent like Miles Jack. Okay, then
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: they heard me on the linebackers special team guy Mac
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: Wilson Alabama. Miles Jack can play like Mac Wilson is
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: a special teamer. Soup. Was that article you just wrote
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: called oh the future at linebacker? Could the addition of
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: Matt Wilson be as sign of changes that come? I hope.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: So now I'll answer my own question. But LRC justin
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: in Orlando. I know Deuce is all about the front seven,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: but it seems like the draft focus on the D
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: line is about getting a defensive tackle to pair with Barmore,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: like the Georgia defensive tackles or Winfrey out of Oklahoma.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: But how much focus should there be on getting an
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: edge player early in the draft. New England could really
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: use a boost to the defense like they had in
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: twenty twelve when they drafted High Tower and Chandler Jones,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: setting them up for the next era of success defensively,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: And I'm not sure drafting a corner early will impact
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: the defense as quickly as an investment up front night
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: bottom line, they need a big defensive infusion of young
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: talent over the next couple of drafts so they can
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: afford to sign a top corner like they did with Gilmore. Yeah,
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: hundred percent. I mean I and that's can I ask
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: why why? Because they got no Why does the impact
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: right now? Why does the impact upfront happen faster than
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: an impact in the back. Oh, that's what he thinks.
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: That's why I asked why. I don't know. I mean,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: I apologize if that's it an, but I'm asking why
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: drafting a first round defensive end, we'll have a faster
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: impact than a first round cornerback. Yeah, I mean I think,
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: I mean, you are involved him in more of the
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: action up front, But I mean I think the better
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: corner could certainly outsign a defensive end. But I mean
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: that's that's where I go. I know we differ on
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: that one, but no, and I'm not listening if they
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: if they sign Um, like, I would want an edge guy.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: I don't want any part of a defensive tackle at
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: twenty one. I would want an edge guy. But if
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: they signed a good player, I don't care what position plays. Yeah,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: I'm just I'm asking, just in theory, why a guy
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: that plays one position potentially as a faster impact over
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: a guy who plays another position. I think it's regardless
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: of players of position. To me, it's all about did
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: you get a guy who can play? Like if they
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: Christian Barmore could play, he made an immediate I've heard
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: that about running back, that it's easier to like make
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: an instant impact in the NFL that morning back. Now
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: that makes sense. Yeah, that that makes total sense to me.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: But like if it's just if they took an instinct position,
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: if they took a cornerback at twenty one and now
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: just having lost JC Jackson, you don't think he'd be
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: in line to be a day one starter. Oh yeah, no,
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: he should right, sure, for sure. And if they took
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: a if they took a defensive end edge guy to
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: play opposite Judean, you don't think he would be in
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: the mix to be a day one starter. Absolutely, So
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: I think I think you know Paul's right, Like, whoever
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: they take him, he's good. Yeah, I don't really care
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: what's good he should be. If he should be in
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: the mix to be a starter, if you do, But
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: I'm not anti Douce here if Deuce Deuce wants defensive linemen.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: But but I'm with you, but I'm not an anti
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: defensive lineman there either, right, Like I think at twenty one,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: you got to get a good player, yeah, the best player.
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: I'll just say this. I think that the Patriots defense
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: got pushed around and had no answers at the end
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: of last season. And I think that if you're gonna
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: rebuild your defense, for me, it starts with guys like
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: Christian Barmore and you know, a guy like I've I've
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: mentioned Trey Von Walker from Georgia, who now is probably
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: I mean i've seen him going all the way up
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: at third overall now. But you know that kind of presence,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: and that's why I love, you know, Trey Flowers. I
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: think he's a tough guy that they that's what they need.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Last year. I just it didn't seem like it. In Spurts,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: they were tough and they were hard to play against,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: and you know, you liked what you had, but they
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: got pushed around, they had no answers. So you need
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: you need to remake the defense almost in a way
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: like when they brought Gronk in and that kind of
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: refreshed the whole Patriots offense in a way, you know,
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: Gronk and Hernandez. It was a new it was just
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: a new dynamic that you had new so and I
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: think it's easier to have a defensive front guy maybe
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: do that than say a shutdown corner. But it's not impossible.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: I just think picking at twenty one, you're probably you're
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: just gonna choose what's left. I'll steal some of the
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: headlines I saw when Trey Flowers was made available. Does
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: a return to the Patriots make sense? Yes? Yes, should
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: take him? Yes, yeah, I would take him. Yeah. I
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: wouldn't give him any money, but I would take him. Yeah,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: let him play for a year and then go get
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: bade by Houston. I would. I'd love to get him back.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: I think, yeah, he's on the thirty. I mean he's
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: so Yeah, I would. I would take him back because
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: he has familiarity with the system and whatnot, and he's
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: gonna come in and play and it's not like, all right,
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: you know, can he play like that's but that's not
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: like he's not an edge guy, Like he's not going
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: to give you a sacks. He's not gonna he's gonna
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: stop the run. He's gonna be you know, solid people.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: I'll just take somebody. Yeah, that is that fair? Right? Um,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: let's see Marie in Durham, New Hampshire. H just caught
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: up in the last few episodes and as a you
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: mass alum, I have to chime in on the possible
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: ability of an Andy Isabella na Kiel Harry trade. In
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: the past ten years, I've seen about four good things
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: that you mask football games, Andy Isabella, Taj Sharp, the
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Marching Band, and the fact that the stadium started selling
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: alcohol because you really need to get it to need
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: it through to get through some of those games. Yes,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: the bar is supremely low with you, mass football, but
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: if you can get a good price for a guy
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: with some potential, and why not. He's only got a
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: year left on his contract, so if he doesn't work out,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: to the next one, onto the next one. If he
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: does work out, resign him and let him keep growing
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: with mac. I agree. I think that's the kind of
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: move that would make sense. You have a young athletic
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: guy with upside. If it doesn't work, you've lost nothing, right.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: I agree with that email a thousand percent. I do
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: a similar move of my boiler viscache Chanel chano what
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: I'm talking about? Yeah, well they were pronouncing its channel
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: through the draft process, right, and then today prof it's
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: like Chanel, Oh yeah, thank god, but the same kind
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: of thing. I take flyers on those guys absolutely, especially
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: if you can say bye bye to Harry. I'd be
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: more willing to truss with Isabella because of the speed.
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: And I think, sure, yes, I watched them all through college. Yeah,
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: I've only been thrown on it off on it. Today
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: when I looked at p Reff and it said fronancy,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: I just caught pronunciation, right, Yeah, but did Aaron do it?
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: Go on? I don't know why. Let's do next week.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: Let's go in of April. That was the greatest. That
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: was the greatest moment in the history of that meeting.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: It says here in April, people don't know what we're
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: talking about. That's okay, it's inside you. Um, let's go
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: back to the outline. Patty's an agawam, what's up? Patty?
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: What's up? Guys? I love following up Paul. It's great, Um, Paul,
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: I I agree with you on certain plays, but I
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: think um with a couple of them, like Player and mccordy,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Like we don't they're they're certain guys that we don't
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: have replacements for at the time being. And I know,
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: like a backup quarterback you can get anywhere, but I
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: mean that you've heard guys stay it over the past
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: couple of years. I mean, he's probably, aside from Tom Brady,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: the guy that knows this offensive system the best. But
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: not only that, I mean this is kind of a
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: telling problem that we've seen, Like we've seen them sort
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: of miss more's a quarterback position with Brady. We've seen
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: a miss manage a cornerback position this year. This is
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: the first year since um oh seven when a sant
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: by Samuel left off for the season, though we don't
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: have a clear cut guy in the waiting and even
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: at pretty safety with mccordy, I mean, they haven't. They
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: haven't replenished the well sore to speak or Bellis mc
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: hasn't repunished the well. And to me that that's a
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: little bit more concerning than them just bringing back like
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: a bunch of old guys. It's like, when are they
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: gonna replenish the well? You know? Yeah? Okay, So Patty
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: My point is, instead of some of the guys that
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: you resigned, if they went out and got like Darius
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: Williams for h is it shavarious War, Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: you know, and then maybe you'd say, Okay, well they
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: replaced jac Jackson. That's a guy. You know, they got
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: another guy and they replace them. But instead, you know,
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: we're bringing back thirty five year old safeties because we
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: have to fix the culture. Evidently you can do both.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: At some point. You can't because they're all signed, I know,
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: but but like you can't sign other guys signing, but
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: signing Devin mccordy did not mean that they couldn't replace j. C. Jackson.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: Now they may not, and we can criticize them for that,
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: but I don't think that you know, McCord doing that.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: I can only go off of today, I know, but
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: I'm just saying they're not related. Okay, so you say
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: they're not related. I do. I think they are related.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: I think that they chose to spend half the money
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: that it would have taken to get a guy like
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: that on mccordy. I would rather take that money and
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: give it to a corner, a young corner. I think
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: they can do both. But you know, we'll see if
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: they do. I don't know, they're gonna have to get
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: another corner. I mean, okay, then I'll rephrase it. I
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: would rather have taken half the money from ac Cordy,
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: got in a corner, and then taken the rest and
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: gotten someone else. Okay, all right, Like we can just
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: keep sad. They could do both. They could do it. Yeah,
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: they could sign anybody they want. We get that, but
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: it doesn't look like they're going to. I just don't think,
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: you know, the signing of Accordy indicates that. I think
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: it's an indication that the direction that they're going, they're
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: decided to keep the veterans intact and go that way
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: because for whatever reason they felt like they needed to
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: And the most often repeated reason for it from the
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: Phil Perry's, the Tom Currents, the Mike Reeses is culture.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: They felt like it was important to us to keep
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: the leaders in place at once. At some point, I wonder,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: maybe get some coaches that can be leaders, and then
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: you won't have to worry about your players doing it too.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Oh wow, I think you always need to circle the wagon. Guys.
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: Every coach says that, Yeah, let's get either of them.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: It's a balance. It's a balance. I mean, I don't
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: think you can just, you know, turn everybody over because
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: it wasn't good. But no, I wasn't in favor of
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: turning everybody over. I would have liked to have seen
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: one guy go which one, two guys go which one. Mccordy.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: I don't think mccordy is worth the money. That's why
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: I brought up the question earlier about him or the
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: honey Badger or take your pick, right, Thomas, he would
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: rather have mccordy, right, But my my preferred choice is
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Phillips and daughter. Well they've got them. But but but
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: now one of them won't play as much as I
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: want him to play, because mccordy will play every snap.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: Much like last year when I had all of these
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: linebackers that I wanted to see play, they didn't play
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: because High Tower played every snap and Collins came in
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: in the middle of the year. They play a lot
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: of dimes, they play a lot of three corner and
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: a lot of three safeties. I want less of one
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: of the three as that, but it won't happen. Mccordy
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: will play every snap. I just him in his bonnet,
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: just like this beats all right, listen. I mean I
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: could sit here and put a smiley face on it
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: and just say, hey, it's great that all these guys
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: are that's the passion I love. I don't think it's
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: great that all these guys are back. I'm a very
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: mediocreep guys, three guys, and you brought them all back.
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: Three guys, but they were more than that. They didn't
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: bring them all back. I can't get worked up about
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: those three. I can get worked up about the lack
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: of young talent and that I just don't feel that
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: that those guys are really I guess I stunting the
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: growth of anybody, because you don't have less than of
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: mccordy last year than you guys did. I thought mccordy
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: was a big part of the problem last year at times.
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: Big I just thought he's I think he's fine. I
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: think he plays free safety now and the other two
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: guys do the heavy lifting and he just kind of
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: keeps everything on the back end in order. And I
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: thought mccordy was gone. Remember that, Remember that mackenzie run
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: down the sideline in the playoff game. Cordy came over
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: this way and then turned just chased them up aside,
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: like I have like eight of those in mind. I
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: do too. That's why I didn't think he was coming
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: back bad angles. Like you know, you're talking about you
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: need someone to get the calls in. But he was
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: the one who's complained about the calls. Ye, like, I
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: don't know. Yeah, And again this is not about his career, No,
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: it's about right now. I'm talking about right now. If
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: we're talking about patriots, Devin mccordy's a great patriot, great,
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: not a good one. Great. Same with James White, same
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: with Matthew Slater, same with Dante Hi. Great players, I
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: would think, so, yeah, yeah, I mean, especially based on precedent. Well,
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: I didn't want to say that. Especially based on precedent.
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: He belongs over about half the guys that we've elected. Yeah,
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: all right, let's get back to the phones. They're stacked
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: up here. Let's get to Brian in Indiana. What's up, Brian? Hey, Hey, Hey,
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: I'm not even I'm on your side of the argument, Paul,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: but I'm not even surprised. I mean, and y'all I
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: just heard y'all McCarthy good, great, great, Patriot. That not
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: to me. I didn't like the contract like he got
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: last time they resigned him. That's just my personal opinion
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: on him. I've always felt like he was this is
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: my thing, and I wasn't gonna call. But listening to
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: Paul and Douce, I mean, not Paul, listening to Fred
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: induced frustrates me. Uh. Had Bill chose to get rid
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: of all of these people that you complaining about, Paul,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: it would have been the right thing to do, and
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: everybody would be excited for you, Fred and Deuce Da.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: Whatever Bill does is the right thing. I mean, I
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: don't see why you still fighting. You've been working with Paul.
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: You've been working with Fred for how long? I know,
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: But I still fight him now, and I'm starting to
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: like fightin. I'm lockstep with y'all. Get him out. Jason
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: Jackson's check out. Y'all gonna want to pay him fine?
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: The Dana pisses me off about the boss just sports media,
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: and I knew it. It was like clockwork, Okay, everybody
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: been saying they can I go sign Jackson. It's kind
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: of been a foregone conclusion for months. They wouldn't go
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: resign them, right, of course, here comes to smear campaign.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: Right now, I'm hearing all of these things about Jackson
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: that I didn't hear in the two or three years
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: prior that he was here, before his contract was coming up.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: And it's just typical and it gets under my skin.
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: Who's saying what? But not on this show cartel ever
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: heard before? But here we go convene Bard and all
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: the rest of the wager carriers as Paul like to
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: call them, And uh, it's disconcerting. And I don't know,
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: I don't, I ain't, I ain't got the answers. I'm
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: not the gem Bill is, But that don't mean I
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: can't have an opinion on what I think his g
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: M has turned his gem uh skills a problems, has
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: turned this team into into me is no talent? I mean,
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: dude's will at least complain about that? And and one
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: more thing before I let y'all go. Paul, I'm not
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: fighting the youth moving no more. And the reason I'm
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: not fightingigas because for what get all of these young guys,
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: Bill's not going to play him anyway. Yeah right, I mean,
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: I know you're right, Christian Barma, You're right, absolutely right,
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: all right? You know. Another part of this that worries
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: me is I wonder if maybe he's doing this because
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: he ain't gonna be around that much longer, and he
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: knows it. I think he wants to win football games still, right,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: So the better way to win football games is to
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: retain your thirty eight year old guys. Not according to you, No, maybe, no,
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: maybe this year right now, you're better off by bringing
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: those guys back, but you're not better off long term.
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I always i Bill cared about both, because that's what
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: he's always told me. But now I'm wondering if maybe
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: he just looks at it says, whatever gets me those
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: twenty wins or thirty wins or whatever I need now
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: I can get out of here as fast as I can.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: Maybe that's the better thing for him. I mean, how
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: many guys are under contract for twenty twenty three, Mike Well, No,
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: nineteen now, James White right right, right, right? Yeah, I
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: don't know he brings back Nicko Vicha McGinnis, I'll get where. Yeah,
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: I don't know why Brian's he might as well. They
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: did as much for the defense last year of his mccardick.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: I didn't know this was going to be such a
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: hot hot buttons. All right, But I'd just like to
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: say in my defense against Brian that I didn't think J. C.
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: Jackson was staying here a month after I started working,
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: and I saw him stand in the locker room and
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: they asked him about Juju Smith Schuster and he rolled
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: his eyes and gave up. And that right there, I said,
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: this guy ain't long for here. That was my question
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: right there, right there. So I'm not coming out to
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: blast him or anything, but this whole time, every time
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: he's done an interview, he's not one of their guys.
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: And you can say not my I'm not. I'm just
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: telling you what they want in a cornerback, what they're
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: going to give forty million guaranteed, not that guy. Not
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: that guy. And I knew it two years ago. Okay, yeah,
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: but you didn't rip them. No, you didn't say all
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: this stuff. Is why I've said this though, I said,
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: I mean, that's what he's making fun of, coming out
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: saying making fun of you. No, he's making fun of
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: the people that are smearing him. You said you didn't
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: think they'd resign him. I get they said they didn't
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: resign him because he's lazy, he doesn't show up to
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: meetings sometime, he's a bad guy. I just it's a
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: big difference. But I'm just trying to say though that
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: on this show, we talk about it, and we talked
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: and that, and that was something that I was saying
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: here when I just started here. So like, you know,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: don't say that nobody at jac Jackson was a dream
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: and oh, how could this possibly happen? Because we've been talking,
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: We've been debating it all year. I mean, Fred came
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: out for him in this seas Mike and I and
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: we were saying, I don't think it's gonna happen, and
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: so we've been talking about it for a while. I'm
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: not gonna speak to any of the Nikovich stuff, but
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: just but it's not just the nick of it stuff.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: If you've read the stuff and they're telling you about
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: how he's he's, he's okay, he's like during the season
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: he was mister Iant on you know the local writers
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: twitter feeds, mister Iant strikes again. But now when it
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: got to the point where they clearly had told everybody
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: Queen resigning again, Uh, you know, he's you know, that's
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: a lot of money for a good not great corner
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: I read yesterday in a number of places, not just
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: Rob Nikovich, but to Mike's point, Mike felt Mike had
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: a vibe yeh from the player, that he didn't seem
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: like a patriot guy that they would invest in long term.
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: But and Mike and I were lockstep on you, and
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: Mike's right about like the type of player. But if
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: you're looking at good cornerbacks, they're all like that, you know,
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: like you're not gonna get like. I agree, that's why
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: they just all by the corner. By the way, good
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: wide receive the same thing. They all have their swagger
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: and attitude, speak their mind, but just go over it.
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: I mean it was by the way, I agree with
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: Carlos Heel on the revolution to speaking speak their mind.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: I shouldn't be playing in those conditions. You shouldn't. They
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: should not be playing games in March. I didn't hear
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: him complaining when they won the game of a couple
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: of weeks ago. I understand that, but I'm just saying
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: the same type of condition. It was crazy. I don't care.
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: I don't like the MLL schedule in March, and I'm
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: sure there's a million reasons why you need to do it.
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: I don't like it. Well I took a turn, yeah,
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: just to make a few more speaking their mind, to
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: make a few more people hate me. Uh. Jamison Williams,
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: same vibe with him. Not not their kind of guy.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: So sorry to all the guys who want him. That's
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: the same vibe I got about him when I heard
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: him talking in Indian. But but but that's to me,
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: that's relevant. What he's telling you was relevant. It is.
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: But I'm telling you they're making a mistake. What what? What?
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: No like? And you know why Paul Paul acts like
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: I never say these things. I do be but usually
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: well they rare yes, you know, I've been saying this
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: for a while. Wide receivers, cornerbacks, you got to coach
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: them if if you know, if you don't like their personality,
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: you're gonna have to work through that because there's very
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: few of them are like Matthew Slater as as a
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: wide receiver or cornerback, I mean, can I ask a
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: question like as an owner, mister Kraft, you know, is
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: this is this? And I don't want to, you know,
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: try to make anybody speak for them, but as an
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: ownership looking down at a head coach hand and GM
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: giving out your money. Uh do you like that? Do
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: you like how? Because the bar is extremely high, and
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: I agree it's it's probably too high even regardless of
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: stuff we're talking about right now, because who on the
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: roster right now has been extended? Who like Shaq Mason?
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: I think I think as an owner, guys, I think
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: as an owner, you don't pick like that as long
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: as you're winning. Later if if you have if you
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: have several seasons in a row, if you have several
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: seasons in a row or you're not, then you start
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: nitpicking things like that. Yeah, but as an owner, you don't.
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: You don't worry about those details until you're not winning
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: any because it's just like on the surface, they're not
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: winning anymore. Yeah, they did win. They did win. Unbelievable,
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: they haven't won a game of two years. They left
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: a bad taste in your mouth. They did. They can
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: we not a quate not going winless and not winning
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: like you don't have to go. But it's slowly it
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: goes from seven and nine and ten and seven to
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: like it's really what it is, seventeen and seventeen over
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: the last two years. Okay, so that's that's that's that's
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: that's fact. That's not Paul Snart. There average, that's average,
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: and Bill players average five hundred. You know, you can
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: play that game anyway you want. But you know there's
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: there's still I'm sorry, what game are we playing? You
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: know where they not go seventeen and seventeen last year?
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: Bill Parcels not be a five hundred coach with the Patriots?
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: What was he as a Patriots coach? Yes, you know
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: he was. I mean he's a bad coach. Who said
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: that Bill is a bad coach? You know? Do you
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: talk about making things up? No one ever said anything
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: about belichick coaching ability. I just think as if I'm
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: Robert Kraft, I'm not freaking out yet. You know, I
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: saw improvement. I got, we got our quarterback who we
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: think we can work with. I see things. Okay, Now,
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: like I said, if you have four seasons in a
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: row that you know they get worse, then you start
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: nitpicking Bill. Then you start looking at you know who,
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: you know, the little things that we were just talking about.
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: But right now, like it's kind of waiting the owner.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: I think a good leader looks at things as they're happening.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: And doesn't wait for the results to determine whether or
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: not they were good moves. Yeah, I think you look
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: get out in front of things, well, like what are
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: we doing? Do you do? You really want your owner
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: in there saying you know, why did you do this?
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: Why did you do? When you analyze it? You don't
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: wait to see what happens. Well, well, I don't know.
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: I think earned a little bit of leeway. He's had
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: a lots had it, and he's earned it. He's had
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: a lot of it. So what do you? I mean, like,
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: who are you railing against? Who has the giving him leeway? You? You? You?
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: He made a couple of signings I disagree with. I
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: don't want him fired. I mean, let's not make stuff
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: up for I don't know almost I thought I heard.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: I want to I want to pose a question, and
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: I'm not sure I should because it might be fodder
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: for for years side of the street. But please, we
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: got only fifty three They in the in like the
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: first iteration of the dynasty, did they did they do this?
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: Did they hang on to guys too long? Did they
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: give contracts to guys where? Well, they did the opposite.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: They did older guys. They constantly recycled the rost. They
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: brought in on the guys immediately, and you know, I
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: brought in Bobby Hamilton and Brian Cotts. He brought in
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: veterans in and out and out, but you can't have
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: those guys staying around too. He brought in veterans that
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: he knew, like he could count on until he got
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: the younger guys to play. Yeah, McGinnis led them on.
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: Right now, you're kind of beginning things. Bruskie was different,
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: yea of his health thing, but that you haven't seen
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: those guys play yet, those younger guys enough, right. I
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: think that Deuce has hit on the problem. And this
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: is why I why I feel like they've done what
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: they're doing right now, is because back then it was, yeah,
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: we can let that guy go because we got this
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: guy coming. We can let Damien Woody go. We got
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: Dan Copen in the fifth round. Like, just as an
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: example right off the top of my head, we can
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: let Ted Washington walk after a year because we're drafting
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: Itz Wilford and you know, trailer, They're not doing that
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: in a consistent basis anymore on that one. And that's
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: why I feel like that they need to retain some
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: of these guys because they feel like they can still help. Unfortunately, unfortunately,
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: because I don't think what you have is good enough.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: And I'm sorry that I feel that way, but that's
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: how I feel like. I guess that's sitting poorly at
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: some I just think on every team, every coach needs
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: their guys that they can do Penn done, you know,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: like the old how many of them? But again, like
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: how many are we talking about? It feels like everybody
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: after it after it's not. It feels like it, but
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: it's not. But it's every move they made has been
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: with that in mind. Well that's initially, let's see what happens.
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: Okay again different on Thursday, they resigned mc cordy. Next
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: tuesday later and James White. Next tuesday, we might be
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: talking about four new guys that they might sign, Darius Williams,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: Alan Robinson and Miles Jack. And I'll have a totally
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: different tone. You're not gonna be here Thursday. I'll have
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: a totally different tone if they go out and they
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: sign younger, big money guys and and and an infusion
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: of town and I'll and I'll go on your side
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: the street, and I'll have a different tone. If they
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: bring back High Tower and Bentley and I'll have a
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: different tone. Yeah, yeah, you know so that I don't
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: think that one more will put you over the topic.
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: I sign High Tower that that'll be it. I said,
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: what are they doing? And you know, well, Bentley's young.
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: Bentley doesn't fall into me. But it's kind of like,
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: you know, like he's a young player, too big. He's
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: only four years ago, as was just I mean, it's funny,
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: you know, but bent least not my problem, Like he's
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: not thirty five years old. I don't like if they've
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: resigned Bentley, I'm not going to add him to the
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: list of I can't believe they're resigning all of these
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: thirty somethings because he's not you'll put them on the
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: I can't believe they said, of these guys that can't run,
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: I don't know, is he any different than efreny Uh?
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: I mean, m what's this guy's name, Ray Kuan McMillan. No,
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: you think Ray Kuan McMillan can run any better than Bentley?
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: Run at all? Right now? Yah? Oh my knee? What
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: this once? It's coming back up on him to fight it.
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: I'm boy. Yeah, I'm just I am a little jacked
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: up today, no question, I I thought. And it's funny
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: because this is exactly what I expected, And sometimes when
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: you're right, it's even more because I just think that
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: they needed to they needed to take steps. I thought
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: they took steps last year to bring in some younger guys,
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: and I thought they needed to continue that, to continue
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: to recycle through that. And I think that they've been
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: literally reluctant to do it. And I don't, but I
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: don't think that what they've done eliminates the possibility of
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: that happening. Hey, I do, yeah, Okay, it's just more
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: of a perception kind of thing. I don't think there
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: are openings now that are apparent to a perspective free agent.
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: You know, with something there's certainly a wide receiver, there's
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: a yeah, there's a job, but there's only one wide
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: receiver worth taking. I don't think they're going to be
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: in I think there's plenty of openings. I think the
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: whole rosters open for crying out loud, starting corner, corner, linebacker,
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: front line. Okay, but if you're gonna like you can
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: sign Jalen Mills. I wanted to sign like a good player,
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: like a guy that was worth right, you know, Like
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: I don't want to just sign like a patchwork guy. Like, yeah,
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: they're gonna sign. They're probably gonna sign a cornerback. Yeah,
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: and then I'm gonna get blood twins. But it's not
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: gonna be you know, yeah, it's not gonna be the
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: guy that's jac Jackson's caliber. Listen, I'm on record saying
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: they should have jac Jackson to be on the team
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: right now. Yeah you are. I mean, what can else
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: you think you'd be disappointed by that? But you're not. Listen,
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: You're gonna move on. I can't. I can't dwell on it.
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: I gotta move on. You know, we got football. It
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: just it just feels like it just feels like that, Yes,
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: we got football to play. They were ten and seven
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: and they made the playoffs. But I think the way
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: the season ended and they will be remembering, and the
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: way the AFC is evolving around them, it makes it
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: look like they're stuck in quicksand right now, right now,
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: they are in Okay, Well, that's all I'm commenting on.
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: I'm not commenting on I get but but and I
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: agree with that, but I don't think the signing of
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: these three guys makes it any worse, Let's put it
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: that way. But it doesn't make it any better. But
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: but it's the point. But right, yeah, but I don't
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: think it prevents them from making it better either. Well,
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: but Mike said it earlier in the show. They need
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: to hit in the draft, whether or not they signed
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: those three guys, they need to do that. Yes, you know,
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: so that's what I'm saying. But it would I think
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: people wanted, had had at least a little bit of
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: hope that they would do something to improving. We all
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: said that, right, we all said that at the beginning
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: of the show. We're not surprised, but we all wanted
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: to be surprised. Yeah, you know, I'm still there. I
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: wanted I'm still hoping to be surprised. You know, there'll
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: be somebody we'll see. I just hope there is something
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: crazy or happens tomorrow and then we don't have pp
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: over here. They signed like an eighteen year old kid,
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: and it's like, hey, we got younger from his couch.
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: If they signed uh, if they signed Miles Jack, we
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: could do it emergency podcast tomorrow. All right, that's gonna
- 2:00:02Speaker 1: be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered, lively show,
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: very passionate as it is, can imagine what the football
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: offices are right now. I'll need a nap, all right.
