- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, welcome, welcome, welcome, heat
- 0:08Speaker 1: his time now for card talk with the Dungeons family
- 0:10Speaker 1: of bottoms.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Brad dungeus is he in house and he brought friends again?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Of course I did, Tom, you already do.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Everybody out there and all our friends in Bartlesville, welcome
- 0:20Speaker 1: to the show today. Thank you for joining us. It's
- 0:23Speaker 1: fundy again on Thursday morning.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Now, I'm ready for some sunshine.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like we uh Sunday Sunday and Monday's
- 0:30Speaker 1: eighty degree weather. It's a long time ago, or maybe
- 0:33Speaker 1: we're being punished.
- 0:34Speaker 3: For it or something that last fog. I wrecked my forerunner.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Oh you did. I did.
- 0:38Speaker 3: It's in the shop getting fixed.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I'm sorry to hear that.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Okay. Luckily it was a Toyota. Yeah it handled it well.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, good and yeah, we just this morning
- 0:49Speaker 1: got our first twenty twenty five four x four.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Four runner allocated to us. Nice.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We had a four x two a couple of weeks ago,
- 0:57Speaker 1: so we'll have both of those on the ground the
- 0:59Speaker 1: way Toota does that on a new model like this,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and this one is so highly anticipated because we haven't
- 1:05Speaker 1: had a new forerunner in over twelve years. And this
- 1:09Speaker 1: is from the ground up, all the great new stuff.
- 1:13Speaker 1: It's going to be very exciting, you know. Great really
- 1:16Speaker 1: a great value vehicle too, lasts.
- 1:19Speaker 2: A long time. They're very flexible.
- 1:21Speaker 1: If you want to go somewhere, you know, you need
- 1:24Speaker 1: that the rough and ready side of it, or just
- 1:28Speaker 1: comfortable too, in the right size, so kind of thing.
- 1:31Speaker 2: And but we have that coming.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And as I said, Toyota allocates one of those to
- 1:36Speaker 1: every dealer before they start sending them out and through
- 1:40Speaker 1: the normal allocation system. So our first two have been
- 1:43Speaker 1: allocated to us, and the team can help you understand
- 1:47Speaker 1: when they'll be here. There's still a few days off,
- 1:49Speaker 1: and you know that Toyota allocation system is interesting.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Maybe talk about that a little bit.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Here, But before we do that, you know, Deana Cameron Sale, hey,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I didn't introduce official Internet.
- 2:03Speaker 3: That's okay, that's okay.
- 2:04Speaker 1: But you are the director at Young Scholars of Bartlesville, sir,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and joined them recently as as the director I did.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I joined in August. So yeah, that's very busy.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I know you're not new to the area.
- 2:18Speaker 3: No, I am not lived in nineteen years.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Awesome, well and it's a great organization that you're working
- 2:26Speaker 1: for now, and it has been around here almost twenty years.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm super excited.
- 2:33Speaker 4: We started in two thousand and six, so I've already
- 2:35Speaker 4: got my brain kind of kicking in gear thinking about
- 2:38Speaker 4: what we're going to do for our twenty year anniversary.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I already got my file folder with my ideas ready
- 2:42Speaker 4: to kick that year off.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Before we get there, we have a big event coming
- 2:47Speaker 1: up in a couple of weeks. With the Uncork your Support,
- 2:49Speaker 1: we do and tell everyone about what's going on that night.
- 2:53Speaker 4: So February twenty second, at seven o'clock at night, doors
- 2:57Speaker 4: open at six point thirty, we have Uncork your Support,
- 3:00Speaker 4: our big annual event. It's a food and wine pairing.
- 3:03Speaker 4: This year we always pick a theme. This year the
- 3:05Speaker 4: theme is Latin America, So I know, I'm super excited.
- 3:09Speaker 4: The food is going to be Latin American themed. It's
- 3:11Speaker 4: still normal, I mean, so it's not too crazy. The
- 3:14Speaker 4: wines match with it perfectly. We've already sampled those. That
- 3:18Speaker 4: was fun pretty good, yes, and then this year new
- 3:21Speaker 4: We have two new things.
- 3:22Speaker 3: This year.
- 3:23Speaker 4: We are doing a VIP which you and Kimberly are
- 3:25Speaker 4: hosting for us. Those doors open at six. It's just
- 3:28Speaker 4: an additional twenty five dollars to get a VIP ticket.
- 3:31Speaker 4: They get an additional food pairing and an additional wine,
- 3:34Speaker 4: so they'll end up with five foods and five wines
- 3:37Speaker 4: and they get to come at six o'clock and hang
- 3:39Speaker 4: out with you and Kimberly for.
- 3:40Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 3:41Speaker 3: That'll be finding the silent auction.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Yes, we'll have all that set up, and then we'll
- 3:47Speaker 4: also have some displays kind of showing what our kids
- 3:49Speaker 4: do and what our program does because we our mission
- 3:52Speaker 4: is to mentor and empower students to graduate from college,
- 3:56Speaker 4: and so we're bringing kids in from the Bartlesville public schools.
- 4:00Speaker 4: We are helping them, gearing them to be successful at college.
- 4:04Speaker 4: You know, college is a very different experience and so
- 4:07Speaker 4: a lot of kids when they get.
- 4:07Speaker 3: There, they don't really know what to do.
- 4:10Speaker 4: They don't know how to handle the pressures, the different environment,
- 4:12Speaker 4: and so we're trying to set them up for success
- 4:15Speaker 4: when they get there. When they finish our program, they
- 4:17Speaker 4: do get a scholarship, big scholarship. So it's kind of
- 4:21Speaker 4: a dual purpose. The mentoring, which Kimberly is one of
- 4:24Speaker 4: our mentors and just for you know, we partner with
- 4:26Speaker 4: big brothers, big sisters and you know, just helping these kids.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Well it's hard.
- 4:31Speaker 1: We came to that last year and it inspired us
- 4:35Speaker 1: and that's why she she became a mentor. And you know,
- 4:39Speaker 1: she used to be a school teacher before we had children,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and Tulsa at Booker t at the Magnet School, she
- 4:47Speaker 1: was an ib ib English teacher and great, you had
- 4:52Speaker 1: a real passion for her students going on to college.
- 4:55Speaker 1: So I mean, you got a good one there, and
- 4:59Speaker 1: she's really excited. She of course just started, so she's
- 5:02Speaker 1: still learning about.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Her her little and.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And and getting there getting to know each other better.
- 5:09Speaker 1: But you know it'll be you know, assuming this all
- 5:12Speaker 1: they stay together.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Now they're together for really forever.
- 5:17Speaker 4: We have we have lots of mentors and students that
- 5:19Speaker 4: stay together into adulthood and still stay in contact, and
- 5:23Speaker 4: we have some that are still very close and so.
- 5:25Speaker 3: It's great to see.
- 5:26Speaker 1: And her little is as a sibling of one of
- 5:30Speaker 1: the soccer players that our sons played with us.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So this stuff does all overlap and it is so great.
- 5:37Speaker 3: And it just reminds you how small town really is.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I think that's as I grew up in
- 5:42Speaker 1: Tulsa and to and went and and went.
- 5:45Speaker 2: To high school there.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And you know, Bartlesville was such a special place to
- 5:49Speaker 1: me because of that.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I mean, my grandparents were here, so we came all
- 5:54Speaker 2: the time. And uh yeah, but.
- 5:57Speaker 1: My mother's parents wanted her father worked for and my
- 6:01Speaker 1: other my dad's father had the Forward Dealership and Toyota dealership,
- 6:06Speaker 1: so we came and visited a lot. But Bartzo was
- 6:09Speaker 1: that small place where you really made friends and connections.
- 6:12Speaker 1: And and when we moved here in two thousand and
- 6:17Speaker 1: when I took a job working at the dealership.
- 6:19Speaker 2: And so twenty five years now, bartles.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Living two thousand and six and not too too much different.
- 6:27Speaker 4: So our tickets are selling pretty quickly, which is super exciting.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I've mentioned it a few times.
- 6:34Speaker 4: But we were given a goal and I'm really trying
- 6:37Speaker 4: hard to hit that goal.
- 6:38Speaker 3: So I would love to sell the lot.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You mentioned that, what is the goal? Can you say
- 6:44Speaker 2: or are you going to jinx?
- 6:45Speaker 3: I don't want to. Maybe if I said on track,
- 6:49Speaker 3: I am on track.
- 6:50Speaker 2: We got Toyota to help, didn't we We did? We did.
- 6:53Speaker 4: I got confirmation yesterday. Yeah, so I we're on track
- 6:57Speaker 4: to hit the goal that was set. And I've said
- 7:00Speaker 4: it before, I'm a goal person, so and I don't
- 7:02Speaker 4: hit goals that kind of Yeah. So anyways, we do
- 7:06Speaker 4: have we do have some seats left. We're hoping to
- 7:09Speaker 4: sell out. You can go to uncork your support, dot square,
- 7:14Speaker 4: dot site or just you.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Know, search for search scholars.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Yes it'll pop up so yes, or give me a call,
- 7:23Speaker 4: find me drive to you.
- 7:25Speaker 1: So eighteen years of this whatever and all these lives
- 7:29Speaker 1: impacted really and people that go on, I mean, talk
- 7:33Speaker 1: about the impact that you guys have, because it early
- 7:37Speaker 1: is amazing, right you really think about it.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Something that I did recently because I was putting a
- 7:43Speaker 4: dollar amount to everything that we did and trying to
- 7:45Speaker 4: figure out what is our impact to these students. When
- 7:48Speaker 4: a student is with us from sixth grade to twelfth grade.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Just while in the program, we invest over fourteen thousand dollars.
- 7:55Speaker 3: In each student, which was huge.
- 7:58Speaker 4: I mean when you think, and that's before they even
- 8:00Speaker 4: get scholarships to go to college. You know, we're we're
- 8:03Speaker 4: helping them with concurrent classes, We're helping them with orthodonics
- 8:06Speaker 4: if they need that. We partner with doctor Andrew, and
- 8:09Speaker 4: you know, if it's you know, you've got to be
- 8:11Speaker 4: confident and a smile is huge. If you're not confident,
- 8:14Speaker 4: then you know that plays into it. So we help
- 8:15Speaker 4: pay for their orthodonics. We pay for a CT testing,
- 8:19Speaker 4: a c T prep ap testing. We pay for a
- 8:23Speaker 4: summer camp every year at a like a STEM camp,
- 8:26Speaker 4: a science camp, technology, all that stuff. There's just so
- 8:30Speaker 4: much to this program that is much more than just
- 8:34Speaker 4: just going to college. We have quarterly meetings where we
- 8:37Speaker 4: bring in people like we we did some mental health
- 8:41Speaker 4: and we did some stuff where learning to be imperfect.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Is still beautiful.
- 8:45Speaker 4: This last time, I plan on like helping the kids
- 8:50Speaker 4: learn about public speaking. You've always got to take that
- 8:52Speaker 4: speech class in college. Everyone's got to take it and
- 8:54Speaker 4: everyone dreads it.
- 8:56Speaker 2: You know, public speaking you have to learn.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I remember and I you know, I was young and
- 9:02Speaker 1: it was awkward to get up there and do that,
- 9:04Speaker 1: and you just got.
- 9:05Speaker 2: To do it.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I mean, we do a lot of stuff with financial
- 9:08Speaker 4: a lot of financial literacy, you know, really trying to
- 9:12Speaker 4: help the students to understand money and real life skills,
- 9:15Speaker 4: real life skills, etiquette skills. I mean, we all ended
- 9:19Speaker 4: up in a situation was.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Making I could use a class, but we've.
- 9:24Speaker 4: All ended up in that situation at some point when
- 9:26Speaker 4: we were younger and there's three forks, three knives, and
- 9:28Speaker 4: you're like, I don't know what to do, you know.
- 9:31Speaker 4: So we're just we're constantly trying to think of things
- 9:33Speaker 4: that's going to help them when they get out into
- 9:36Speaker 4: the world that maybe we can teach them.
- 9:38Speaker 3: And they already know and they're more comfortable when they're
- 9:40Speaker 3: in that.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Situation, right, So that's that's super cool. And you know,
- 9:44Speaker 1: it all goes back to the low Family and they're
- 9:47Speaker 1: they're they're the ones who were who started this, yes
- 9:51Speaker 1: and created the vision, and it used to be called the
- 9:53Speaker 1: low Family.
- 9:54Speaker 2: It did.
- 9:54Speaker 4: We used to be called Low Family Young Scholars Program
- 9:57Speaker 4: in corporate.
- 9:57Speaker 3: It was really long.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Now we're just Young Scholars Bartlesville. It was founded by
- 10:02Speaker 4: Barry and Karen Lowe, and unfortunately Barry has since passed,
- 10:07Speaker 4: but we are lucky to still have Karen.
- 10:09Speaker 3: She's still on our board. We have a great board.
- 10:11Speaker 4: I am completely blessed with eleven individuals that stand behind
- 10:15Speaker 4: me and support me and.
- 10:16Speaker 3: We just go with my crazy ideas.
- 10:19Speaker 4: We recently did kiss a pig and you know, just
- 10:21Speaker 4: all kinds of stuff and it's a lot of fun.
- 10:24Speaker 4: So yeah, so they started this program twenty years ago,
- 10:28Speaker 4: nineteen years ago.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I want to celebrate early.
- 10:32Speaker 4: And it was just because Karen was working at Konaco
- 10:35Speaker 4: and they were delivering Thanksgiving baskets to homes of families
- 10:39Speaker 4: that just needed a little bit of help. And they
- 10:41Speaker 4: went to this one home single mom. She had some
- 10:44Speaker 4: boys and they were doing homework on Thanksgiving break and
- 10:47Speaker 4: the mom just made the comment that she really wanted
- 10:49Speaker 4: her sons to be able to go to college.
- 10:51Speaker 3: She did not want them to have to rely on.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Somebody delivering their Thanksgiving mel and that really touched Barry
- 10:59Speaker 4: and Karen, and I mean immediately, I mean the minute
- 11:02Speaker 4: they walked out of her house. They started putting this
- 11:04Speaker 4: together and worked with some individuals and of course George
- 11:07Speaker 4: Hockey ITAs was you know, huge in helping and the
- 11:10Speaker 4: partnership with big Brothers, big sisters. We couldn't do it
- 11:13Speaker 4: without them from the mentor.
- 11:15Speaker 2: What a great story, I mean, it's just amazing.
- 11:17Speaker 3: And Earl and Jane Sears got on board.
- 11:19Speaker 4: I mean just you know, lots of individuals just immediately
- 11:21Speaker 4: jumped on this.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And that's what we call the dealership sparks so many
- 11:26Speaker 1: ways because because that's it's it's something we all live
- 11:31Speaker 1: in our lives where we you know, need that kind
- 11:34Speaker 1: of a beginning and the spark that starts something, and
- 11:37Speaker 1: the dealership had that ninety six years ago or something.
- 11:42Speaker 1: But it's about you know, these opportunities and opening doors
- 11:45Speaker 1: and people's lives and giving them the tools they need
- 11:48Speaker 1: to have goals and really create great futures for lots
- 11:52Speaker 1: of us individually, lots and it helps the community.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Absolutely, and that's really I mean full circle. We want
- 11:59Speaker 4: the kids to you know, come back. We'd love them
- 12:01Speaker 4: to come back here, but wherever they land, we want
- 12:04Speaker 4: them to end up being.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Giving back to their community.
- 12:07Speaker 4: We want them so they have to do volunteer hours
- 12:09Speaker 4: through us every quarter. It's a requirement, but we want
- 12:14Speaker 4: them to realize, and I've said before, this world doesn't
- 12:17Speaker 4: go around if we don't give, if we don't volunteer.
- 12:21Speaker 4: It's great that we all have positions that you know,
- 12:24Speaker 4: provide income, but you've got to volunteer somewhere to or
- 12:26Speaker 4: there's things that don't get done. And so we want
- 12:28Speaker 4: the kids to understand that and we want them wherever
- 12:30Speaker 4: they land to do that. Vanessa was on the radio
- 12:34Speaker 4: show with Tom on Monday, and she was a student
- 12:36Speaker 4: in our program, went to college, got a job at
- 12:39Speaker 4: Phillips sixty six, and is.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Now on our board of directors.
- 12:42Speaker 4: And I love that story because I mean that's just
- 12:44Speaker 4: a complete full circle.
- 12:47Speaker 3: We've our first graduate. We've had twenty graduates college graduates
- 12:50Speaker 3: so far.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Our first one, Kelsey, went on to become the twenty
- 12:54Speaker 4: twenty three Bartlesfield Teacher of the Year. I mean, you know,
- 12:58Speaker 4: so great successes and giving it back again.
- 13:02Speaker 3: We've got one that's a pilot, which I personally love.
- 13:07Speaker 3: We have engineers, We've got teachers.
- 13:10Speaker 4: I mean, we just we've got some great kids that
- 13:12Speaker 4: have gone through this program and are doing great things.
- 13:14Speaker 1: That's awesome, really cool, and you know it's it is
- 13:18Speaker 1: you partner with local colleges too, that we them to
- 13:22Speaker 1: have scholarships.
- 13:25Speaker 4: They can go anywhere in Oklahoma. But we do have
- 13:27Speaker 4: en doubt scholarships with Oklahoma Stake Go Folks, our Issue
- 13:32Speaker 4: and Wesleyan, and so the money is a little bit
- 13:35Speaker 4: more there, there's a little bit more opportunity, but we
- 13:38Speaker 4: do have scholarships where they can go anywhere in Oklahoma.
- 13:41Speaker 4: We also a couple of years ago we now handled
- 13:46Speaker 4: the Wildcat Scholarship Fund that was started by James Hess,
- 13:51Speaker 4: so we do that as well, And then we were
- 13:54Speaker 4: in the works with somebody else at the moment too
- 13:56Speaker 4: to start helping with their scholarships.
- 13:58Speaker 1: So yeah, really hiring other people to recreate it again
- 14:03Speaker 1: and make even more scholarships available in our area. That's
- 14:07Speaker 1: really cool. And so how do people become involved? I
- 14:11Speaker 1: know people may be hearing this either wanting to be
- 14:14Speaker 1: a mentor or a volunteer.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Some other mentors are very needed.
- 14:18Speaker 4: That's probably the hardest part of finding somebody is finding.
- 14:22Speaker 3: An adult that is able to match up with a kid.
- 14:26Speaker 4: But whether you're interested in the program, applications are open now.
- 14:29Speaker 4: We are accepting new students. We're also looking for mentors.
- 14:34Speaker 4: They can go to our website, which is Bartlesville scholars
- 14:37Speaker 4: dot org and then down at the bottom is a
- 14:39Speaker 4: contact form. Whether it's a student to apply, or if
- 14:41Speaker 4: you want a mentor, or if you just want to
- 14:43Speaker 4: meet with me and just talk about the program.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I would love to do that.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I ask some questions and find out if it's right
- 14:49Speaker 1: for you and your family or if being.
- 14:51Speaker 2: A mentor is and that's great.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Well, we are off and running in February at the
- 14:58Speaker 1: viewership too, and we've got some new incentives. I want
- 15:01Speaker 1: to take just a moment to go over those we've got,
- 15:04Speaker 1: as I mentioned the last few weeks, great lease deals
- 15:07Speaker 1: right now, and some good interest rates on various vehicles,
- 15:11Speaker 1: particularly Toyota is going to feature the Tundra this month.
- 15:14Speaker 1: You know, Thunders one of our most important vehicles and
- 15:17Speaker 1: a great, great, great truck. I just love Thunders. But
- 15:21Speaker 1: they leased really well and in finance well too. We've
- 15:24Speaker 1: got as low as two nine for seventy two months,
- 15:28Speaker 1: and you can also get a lease payment of four.
- 15:31Speaker 2: To eighty nine a month on a new Tundra.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And you know, just comparing that to other models, other
- 15:37Speaker 1: makes and models, you know that there's a down payment
- 15:41Speaker 1: required to get to that payment, but it's you know,
- 15:44Speaker 1: under five thousand dollars at four eighty nine on a
- 15:47Speaker 1: similar Silverado, it'd be almost six thousand down at a
- 15:51Speaker 1: four to nine payment. On an F one fifty, it'd
- 15:53Speaker 1: be forty six hundred down for one hundred dollars a
- 15:57Speaker 1: month more payment for thirty six months. So there's a
- 16:01Speaker 1: lot of value in the Toyota lease program right now
- 16:03Speaker 1: and great interest rates.
- 16:05Speaker 2: They doesn't stop just with Tundra.
- 16:07Speaker 1: We've got other programs going on the Corolla, Camri RAB four. Tacoma,
- 16:12Speaker 1: of course, is one of the great vehicles around here.
- 16:16Speaker 1: We actually sell more Tacomas than Tundras in the last
- 16:20Speaker 1: year we did.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Anyway, I don't know that that.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Will stay that way, but yeah, Tacoma was very popular
- 16:27Speaker 1: last year, and the incredible lease on the Tacoma right
- 16:30Speaker 1: now is as low as two hundred and sixty nine
- 16:32Speaker 1: dollars a month on the Tacoma. And you know, that's
- 16:36Speaker 1: the reason that works that way is because Toyota's retain
- 16:39Speaker 1: their value so well.
- 16:41Speaker 2: They you know, we don't. There's usually not a lot
- 16:44Speaker 2: of big rebates and things that force.
- 16:46Speaker 1: The devaluation of vehicles, and they make such a great vehicle,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and it's they're just reputation for as a used car
- 16:52Speaker 1: and a car that's going to last a long time
- 16:55Speaker 1: helps retain that value and and on at leash, you're
- 16:57Speaker 1: really just buying that part of it that you're going
- 17:00Speaker 1: to use, right so if it's gonna worth more when
- 17:03Speaker 1: you're done, then the least payment is lower.
- 17:06Speaker 2: It's just it's just natural math there.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And but you can have some great deals and the
- 17:13Speaker 1: team is can answer all your questions about that. If
- 17:16Speaker 1: you want to just see the difference on a particular vehicle,
- 17:19Speaker 1: you can go to our website and right there you
- 17:21Speaker 1: can flip back and forth between the least and the
- 17:24Speaker 1: finance option, see all the incentives, calculate your payment, get
- 17:29Speaker 1: your trade valued without ever leaving the seat.
- 17:32Speaker 2: You can do it while you're watching the super Bowl on.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Sunday, so I can tell my husband I need to
- 17:36Speaker 4: do that to come get the new form.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Well you can get ready. Yeah, I mean it's that
- 17:41Speaker 2: it is a way to find out you answer those.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Questions that he's going to want a new Tundra too.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And the great thing about doing it it done just
- 17:48Speaker 1: is we don't you know, we don't play games with
- 17:50Speaker 1: the numbers. We want to be fast and transparent and
- 17:54Speaker 1: make you feel good about buying a car.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Simple, that's what we call it.
- 17:58Speaker 1: And and you know, I just so proud of our
- 18:01Speaker 1: team because I know they take that to heart. That's
- 18:04Speaker 1: why they work there. We're not a traditional car dealership.
- 18:08Speaker 1: They are not paid on commission, like you know in
- 18:11Speaker 1: the community mentions not a bad thing. It's you know,
- 18:13Speaker 1: it's but you know, they're paid salaries and production bonuses,
- 18:18Speaker 1: and they really you know, we want to have fair
- 18:22Speaker 1: prices for all our customers and treat them well. And
- 18:25Speaker 1: we know that's what creates a good business, especially in
- 18:28Speaker 1: a local fawn like this.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And you know, we're we're a real small company.
- 18:32Speaker 1: We're a true family business and not looking to really,
- 18:36Speaker 1: you know, take over the world or be one of
- 18:38Speaker 1: these big corporate car dealers which are all around us.
- 18:42Speaker 2: If you think about it.
- 18:42Speaker 1: When I came here twenty five years ago, all the
- 18:45Speaker 1: dealers in town were local guys, and we're the last
- 18:49Speaker 1: ones that really And I can't.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Test for you there. You'll see Brout he just walks through.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Sometimes I'm there.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I have an office on the showroom and I went
- 18:56Speaker 1: up in the admin area, and you know, I'm there
- 18:59Speaker 1: virtually every day.
- 19:00Speaker 2: And you know, and my brother Bruce's too, and and.
- 19:04Speaker 1: My son William was there for a year until a
- 19:07Speaker 1: few weeks ago, and now he's working in Tulsa and
- 19:09Speaker 1: spreading his wings a little bit. Yeah, it is good
- 19:12Speaker 1: for him, and but it is truly a family business
- 19:17Speaker 1: and we we want to treat our customers like family,
- 19:22Speaker 1: and it is great to represent our team there.
- 19:27Speaker 2: It's you know, they they really are the.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Motor that drives the company and takes care of the customers.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And you know they are the ones that for all
- 19:36Speaker 1: these years and made what we do possible. And so
- 19:39Speaker 1: the employees and inner customers of course, I mean, you
- 19:42Speaker 1: can't do it without the customers. Yeah, so we do
- 19:47Speaker 1: have those great incentives on Toyota's it's a it's a
- 19:51Speaker 1: we're still getting lots of questions. If you're selling all
- 19:54Speaker 1: these cars, why aren't there any on the lot? And
- 19:57Speaker 1: you know this is I mentioned that allocation system. So
- 20:02Speaker 1: what happens is we're given these cars twice a month,
- 20:05Speaker 1: and there's a math formula where you earn them, and
- 20:09Speaker 1: it's based on how many you sell over a ninety
- 20:12Speaker 1: day period. And the reality is, you know, there's about
- 20:15Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty dealers in the Gulf Stage region,
- 20:19Speaker 1: five states, and you know they'll allocate these out twice
- 20:23Speaker 1: a month to the dealers and if you you know,
- 20:26Speaker 1: something like the land Cruiser, maybe there might be one
- 20:29Speaker 1: hundred of those in an allocation and only one hundred
- 20:33Speaker 1: and sixty dealers, so not everybody's even going to get
- 20:36Speaker 1: one on big lines like RAB four and camera. Of course,
- 20:40Speaker 1: typically we're going to have them in the pipeline. But
- 20:43Speaker 1: what happens is that across the entire region last month,
- 20:47Speaker 1: sixty percent of those that were available on the ground
- 20:51Speaker 1: or in the pipeline sold during that month. So the
- 20:56Speaker 1: ones that were on the ground beforehand and all the
- 20:59Speaker 1: ones that land, and counting the ones that weren't even
- 21:02Speaker 1: there yet, sixty percent of them sell. So it's just
- 21:05Speaker 1: a it's a it's just turning so fast that it's
- 21:10Speaker 1: difficult to keep up. And you know, as a small dealer,
- 21:13Speaker 1: that's we we really focus on that. We need to
- 21:16Speaker 1: hit our objectives every month and earn more vehicles and
- 21:19Speaker 1: and you know we.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Are earning more.
- 21:22Speaker 1: But but again about his message to us is you
- 21:26Speaker 1: don't expect the ground stock this year to grow.
- 21:30Speaker 2: It's likely to stay about the same as sales grow
- 21:33Speaker 2: go up.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And you know, that's a good problem to have, I think,
- 21:37Speaker 1: and you know we would certainly better than the opposite.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely seen.
- 21:42Speaker 1: That before, but no, this is this is a great situation.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And you know, just you know, if you have something
- 21:50Speaker 1: you're looking for, reach out to us. Let us know
- 21:53Speaker 1: what that is.
- 21:54Speaker 2: We can do.
- 21:54Speaker 1: We're trade for it, go look for it, find it
- 21:57Speaker 1: in the allocation, do what they call in the air.
- 22:01Speaker 1: You know, I know a lot of people are drawn
- 22:03Speaker 1: to the larger inventories in Tulsa. That's normal, and of
- 22:06Speaker 1: course I know people are going to go down there.
- 22:08Speaker 2: But you know, if you.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Don't find what you need there and the right experience
- 22:12Speaker 1: you need, come on back and talk to us. You know,
- 22:15Speaker 1: we do want to earn your business. Even if you
- 22:18Speaker 1: find what you want down there, come back and tell us.
- 22:21Speaker 1: A lot of times we might be able to get
- 22:22Speaker 1: that specific vehicle for you and just trade for it.
- 22:25Speaker 2: And a lot of times we save people money.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Doing it that way, and because we don't have the
- 22:31Speaker 1: big fees and added stuff that we do. I mean,
- 22:35Speaker 1: we do some things like tent windows typically on most
- 22:39Speaker 1: of our new vehicles, and we have some things that
- 22:42Speaker 1: we apply to the vehicle no cost Zurich Shield program,
- 22:48Speaker 1: which essentially protects the pain and interior fabric.
- 22:51Speaker 2: That's a no cost to you though, so.
- 22:53Speaker 1: We're applying it and giving you the product in the
- 22:55Speaker 1: first year for free.
- 22:57Speaker 2: You can upgrade that, so.
- 22:59Speaker 1: We try to add things with real value if we're
- 23:02Speaker 1: going to add something, and then let you go from
- 23:05Speaker 1: there and you know, build your best deal.
- 23:08Speaker 2: So enough car business.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Let's talk more about on Coko and remind them when
- 23:16Speaker 1: it is.

- 25:33Speaker 4: not bad at all.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and a chance to get some of that.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right. So we're excited. You'll get to hear
- 25:39Speaker 4: from Vanessa. Vanessa will be sharing more about her story
- 25:44Speaker 4: and her experience.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Thinking back about last year's that I mentioned inspired us,
- 25:49Speaker 1: that was what did it? Yeah?
- 25:51Speaker 4: Hearing from well, it's the kids, I mean, really understanding
- 25:54Speaker 4: what it meant to them. It's one thing for me
- 25:56Speaker 4: to say that this is what we do, but for
- 25:58Speaker 4: the to hear it from a kid, a young adult
- 26:01Speaker 4: really say, this is what the program meant for me.
- 26:03Speaker 4: This is what the program did for me. This is
- 26:05Speaker 4: how I came back and I have been able to
- 26:07Speaker 4: be successful. I think is huge, and so every year
- 26:10Speaker 4: we have a student come back and speak. This year
- 26:13Speaker 4: will be Vanessa Saucedo sac Oh goodness, thank.
- 26:19Speaker 3: You, so sorry Vanessa, and.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Just be you know, being able to hear hear what
- 26:24Speaker 4: she's doing with her life, I think is always impactful.
- 26:28Speaker 2: That's great.
- 26:29Speaker 1: And once again it's Bartosville Young Scholar Young Scholars of
- 26:34Speaker 1: Barlsville and it is a great mentoring program. Part of
- 26:38Speaker 1: the Big Brothers Big Sisters now partnered with them and
- 26:42Speaker 1: you partner up with people in middle school and go
- 26:46Speaker 1: all the way through high school. Right.
- 26:48Speaker 4: So, currently I have two seventh grade girls that are
- 26:51Speaker 4: looking for mentors, two great girls, two great girls. And
- 26:55Speaker 4: so I've got two girls and then we'll be adding
- 26:57Speaker 4: to the program probably April May, and so we'll be
- 27:00Speaker 4: looking for mentors for them that will be a mix
- 27:02Speaker 4: of girls and boys.
- 27:03Speaker 3: I'm sure, I'm sure.
- 27:06Speaker 4: But that's probably one of our biggest needs is just
- 27:10Speaker 4: finding people that are willing to give a couple of
- 27:13Speaker 4: hours a month.
- 27:14Speaker 1: How much time is it, What is a typical typical commitment,
- 27:18Speaker 1: and what kinds of things to do?
- 27:19Speaker 4: You know, it can be anywhere from phone conversations to
- 27:23Speaker 4: picking them up and taking them to Sonic to get
- 27:25Speaker 4: a coke.
- 27:26Speaker 3: It can be taking them to one of the Broadway
- 27:28Speaker 3: shows that's here in town. That's great.
- 27:30Speaker 4: Or if like they're a soccer player and you're a
- 27:33Speaker 4: soccer player, maybe you go kick the ball around for
- 27:35Speaker 4: a little bit. I know that Kimberly and her little
- 27:39Speaker 4: went and saw a movie, right. So it's a real
- 27:42Speaker 4: mixture of things, and it's not meant to be financially
- 27:46Speaker 4: a burden on anybody. It's just spending time. Sometimes a
- 27:49Speaker 4: lot of our mentors tutor you know, maybe the kid
- 27:52Speaker 4: needs a little extra help in English or something. So
- 27:55Speaker 4: it's just as we meant.
- 27:57Speaker 2: And I'm sure it evolves over time. Is a relationship, oh.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Absolute, Yeah, as you get to know each other and
- 28:01Speaker 4: you find your commonalities, you know, there's more stuff like that,
- 28:04Speaker 4: But it's just another adult being there that's going to
- 28:07Speaker 4: help guide them. And as they get closer to college,
- 28:10Speaker 4: age can help with that process.
- 28:13Speaker 3: It's time to do applications, it's time to.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Do this, let's go tour college, let's do this, or
- 28:17Speaker 4: you know, have you done this stuff like that?
- 28:19Speaker 2: Well, thank you Deanna for telling me that great story.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I think we're pretty much out of time, Tom, but
- 28:25Speaker 1: thank you to everybody.
- 28:26Speaker 2: For listening, and we'll be back again next week. Ladies
- 28:29Speaker 2: and gentlemen, you've been watching and listening to car Talk
- 28:32Speaker 2: right here on K one
