- 5:28Speaker 5: That's the way for years ellery friendly enemies.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Mister Gabriel. I'm told you have the largest most valuable
- 5:34Speaker 2: library of psychic works in the world. Yes, indeed, mister
- 5:37Speaker 2: queen with it, lucky dog, you've got books. I'd give
- 5:41Speaker 2: my right arm for. Doctor Greyson tells us you two
- 5:44Speaker 2: gentlemen are up here to investigate that learned cave. Miss Withers,
- 5:47Speaker 2: that tried inspector. We're going to conduct a scientific experiment.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Now see here, Hector Gabriel.
- 5:52Speaker 5: I'll let you and Witherus turn my lodge into a
- 5:54Speaker 5: psychic laboratory, but don't drag the respectable name of science
- 5:57Speaker 5: into it.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Are the actually psychic manifests? Great?
- 6:00Speaker 5: Oh lord, some lugon eighteen forty began strangling people in
- 6:03Speaker 5: that cave, and ever since then it's.
- 6:07Speaker 2: What's that sounds like a wolf or something? Lesson? That's
- 6:13Speaker 2: the moan, Gabriel. The ghost sounds now someone swinging? That's
- 6:17Speaker 2: no ghost, sounds like my wife in this porter took
- 6:19Speaker 2: a walk in the woods and here they come running white.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Missus Gabriel, hold you what happens working in the woods? Instead?
- 6:31Speaker 5: You want that ghastly moaning started from the direction of
- 6:34Speaker 5: that cave. Missus Gabriel got fighting to please.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Don't you and mister Withers come here that cave? It's
- 6:39Speaker 2: on it? Why hold of us? What with us? And
- 6:41Speaker 2: I came here for Yes, missus Gabriel, if those moons
- 6:44Speaker 2: were made by a ghost, is our duty to psychic science.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Now you'll see here those sounds are unnatural phenomena, nothing
- 6:51Speaker 5: ghostly about them.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Then then what made that noise? Doctor, Grace, my dear child.
- 6:55Speaker 5: The cavin probably has a peculiar rock structure which causes
- 6:58Speaker 5: it to catch the wind at the for the mountain
- 7:00Speaker 5: and then excel it with a moaning promic, I said.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And she resounds funny. What do you think? I think, Dad,
- 7:12Speaker 2: we'd better have a look at dead Man's cabin, Grace.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Must we go through these words to get to the cave? Yes?
- 7:31Speaker 2: No way of going around it, sheer cliff on either side.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I wonder why the moon stopped with us exasperating, gave
- 7:37Speaker 2: riled everybody. Someone coming sounds like a big, heavy man.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Wasn't the Strangler supposed to be big and having Oh nonsense, Sergeant,
- 7:46Speaker 2: it must be Hank Pete.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Oh, I was right.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Hi, Hey the moan from dead Men's caravan troo.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Yes, they're going to the cabin now, Hey, these are
- 7:57Speaker 5: friends of mine.
- 7:59Speaker 2: A good movie. Strangler's getting pretty restless lately, say Daniel Bone.
- 8:05Speaker 2: You don't believe in that goss bantou Man used to
- 8:08Speaker 2: believe in a lot of things. Mister living alone up
- 8:12Speaker 2: here in the hills. Just what is the story of
- 8:14Speaker 2: the strangler, mister Gabriel. Well, some mountaineer, mister queen over,
- 8:18Speaker 2: tell him, Gabriel. He lowered wayfarers into the cave you see,
- 8:22Speaker 2: and strangled them for their money. Nice fall. What did
- 8:24Speaker 2: he do with his victims' bunnies? There's a natural open
- 8:27Speaker 2: and in a rear wall the cave like a window.
- 8:30Speaker 5: It overlooks the lake and stretched the same light that's
- 8:33Speaker 5: behind my lads.
- 8:34Speaker 2: See, strangler threw his victims out of that cave window
- 8:37Speaker 2: into the lake fifty feet below. Never since them folksy strangled.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Keep them moaning like you'll.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Heard, Oh of all the succotash hanged. The brute was
- 8:45Speaker 5: finally caught and hanged it.
- 8:47Speaker 2: The goes to this strangler murdered one of his victims
- 8:52Speaker 2: all over again. Well here we are, right at the
- 8:56Speaker 2: top of my mountain. Well, there's a cleaning here between
- 8:58Speaker 2: where the woods stop and the entrance to the Hey, hi,
- 9:00Speaker 2: ain't got a wooden door covering the entrance to the camp.
- 9:03Speaker 6: Yes, let's cross the carrying.
- 9:06Speaker 2: How come a door? Grace?
- 9:07Speaker 5: Hank Pete knows more about it than I do.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Some city for a few years back with the door
- 9:13Speaker 2: and charged admission to see the under cave? Was his
- 9:17Speaker 2: name pt behind him. One night he was in here
- 9:21Speaker 2: alone and the morning started he lit out like a
- 9:25Speaker 2: buck den. He ain't been seen since.
- 9:27Speaker 6: Good stop door, Let's go in.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I think I'll stick behind out by the end.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Sergeant, you would never make.
- 9:37Speaker 2: A physicist psychic, said, what did either interesting? Kevin name,
- 9:41Speaker 2: mister Queen. Yes, butter Gabriel from what I can see
- 9:43Speaker 2: of it in this gloom, sallenger, Oh, ruth, the ruth.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Is really the inside is a very crest of the mountain, Inspector.
- 9:51Speaker 2: There's the window in the rear wall. Yes, this opening
- 9:55Speaker 2: looks right out over the lake drop at his feet.
- 9:57Speaker 2: That kind of experiment, are you, gentlemen, intending to get
- 9:59Speaker 2: that the innerge with this? Well, Gabriel and I plan
- 10:02Speaker 2: to spend an entire twenty four hours in this cave,
- 10:04Speaker 2: Inspector Queen, from six tomorrow morning until six a m.
- 10:08Speaker 2: The following day. We'll take food, water, blankets, oil, lamps,
- 10:11Speaker 2: and a sound recording appreface. We want to be in
- 10:13Speaker 2: here when the morning begins, very time to take you day,
- 10:16Speaker 2: Go ahead, year, you female philistine. Really, that's why coming
- 10:21Speaker 2: in all I got lonsome out there say support you
- 10:24Speaker 2: meet up with this, because don't you gents think you
- 10:26Speaker 2: better pack a run just in case of what's making
- 10:29Speaker 2: them sounds could be shot, be a dead ghost long ago.
- 10:34Speaker 2: We're taking every precaution against the possibility that the moons
- 10:37Speaker 2: are caused by a human agency. We pick tomorrow for
- 10:40Speaker 2: our vigil because the weather forecast for tonight is heavy rain,
- 10:43Speaker 2: and the rain will soak down the loose earth of
- 10:45Speaker 2: the clearing in front of the cave. Yes, get it
- 10:47Speaker 2: so soft that anyone approaching the cave will have to
- 10:49Speaker 2: leave footprints in the mud. Well let's go back, eh,
- 10:53Speaker 2: you gentlemen will leave footprints when you cross the money
- 10:56Speaker 2: clearing tomorrow morning. We'll cross it there for to identify
- 10:59Speaker 2: our own appears to me like your true fellow, ashamed
- 11:02Speaker 2: to tinker with trouble, my dear Pete's gooest. Don't scare us, Gabriel,
- 11:07Speaker 2: you have that new luck we brought out.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Ye, Yes, we is.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Ah there and the key remains in my pocket. Well
- 11:16Speaker 2: that's all until tomorrow morning at six. If you want
- 11:19Speaker 2: to see us off, you'll have to be up early.
- 11:21Speaker 2: We'll be up early, mister Gabriel.
- 11:49Speaker 5: Oh guys, shine, sleepy yellerie. Missus Gabriel and I had
- 11:54Speaker 5: to double up last night, and she moaned all night long.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Have you ever stolen it? Tack to Gabriel? Where Gabriel is?
- 12:02Speaker 2: He bunked with me last night, but when I woke
- 12:04Speaker 2: up this morning, he was already gone.
- 12:05Speaker 5: Let's be waiting for us at the cave. Oh. Look,
- 12:09Speaker 5: is that the old woodman doctor Grayson mentioned last night?
- 12:11Speaker 2: Thank Pete, So yes morning, hank up early to see
- 12:16Speaker 2: mister Gabriel and mister Winners start there watching the cave.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Mister Crane. I just brent over to the clear and
- 12:21Speaker 2: at the edge of the woods. Somebody's in that cave
- 12:25Speaker 2: caved doors open, but that hang cave door open. Why
- 12:28Speaker 2: it can't be Gabriel. And I put a new lock
- 12:31Speaker 2: on it yesterday, and he has the only key from see.
- 12:34Speaker 8: For here, So.
- 12:36Speaker 6: I must be your husband, Missus Gabriel.
- 12:39Speaker 5: Well I don't understand it, sergeant, But weren't mister Gabriel.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Mister Willis to go into the cave together. Yes we were,
- 12:45Speaker 2: Heph Withers. Look the prince of a small man's bare
- 12:50Speaker 2: feet and they go perfectly straight across from the clear
- 12:53Speaker 2: into the cave too. Just one said the prince in going.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Why he's tricky. It's world of honor we'd go into.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Yet by his word of.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Art, I'm sure Hector wouldn't do anything disimble.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Well, these are his footprints, aren't they. There couldn't be
- 13:06Speaker 2: anyone else's here. They're so small sheet mister Withers, you're
- 13:10Speaker 2: a dreadful man. It's probably a joke. He's the Gabriel.
- 13:16Speaker 2: It's the Gabriel. I grow, something's wrong, Dad, I'm crossing.
- 13:26Speaker 2: That's clearing alone on the tour to keep out of
- 13:28Speaker 2: the way of Gabriel's footprint.
- 13:29Speaker 6: If you have to follow me the tour. Two h sen.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Dad, Billy telling me come on, meaning I'm coming, sending wrong?
- 13:43Speaker 2: Send what isn't mind? Strong? Look Gabriel and the gay
- 13:46Speaker 2: floor with all the supplies around him dead at about
- 13:50Speaker 2: an hour, I'd say, since my they am. He's contorted
- 13:53Speaker 2: by a.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Horrible fear and no wonder look at his neck.
- 13:55Speaker 2: He's been strangled that, and I don't get it. Even
- 14:09Speaker 2: these mass of strangulation are queer. You mean the upward pointing,
- 14:12Speaker 2: some impressions at the back of Gabriel's neck. Yes, why
- 14:15Speaker 2: we want the temp prints and his windface? Oh that
- 14:18Speaker 2: it's grace Grayson, Sergeant, You and Hank Fiece didn't mess
- 14:21Speaker 2: up Gabriel's footprints and crossing the clearing, did you?
- 14:23Speaker 5: No?
- 14:23Speaker 2: Lray, we detoured too, poor Gabriel. I can't believe it yet,
- 14:27Speaker 2: hangs Look Grocer, the stranger right told well you stop
- 14:33Speaker 2: tapping about ghost. Daniel gome scared.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Stop it, Hank, Why are we going to do? Poor
- 14:41Speaker 5: holders in a state of collapse. Nick is trying frantically
- 14:44Speaker 5: to calm her down. And that man with us happened
- 14:46Speaker 5: out of the words. Since this happened, who did it?
- 14:48Speaker 5: Come outside?
- 14:48Speaker 2: I want to show you something. The only way Gabriel's
- 14:54Speaker 2: murderer could have got into the cave with the way
- 14:56Speaker 2: Gabriel got in by crossing this muddy clearing. Well, well,
- 15:00Speaker 2: where are the killer's footprints? You didn't seen our prints
- 15:02Speaker 2: in this mudain we got here this morning, except the
- 15:04Speaker 2: ones at Gabriel's bare feet, did you? I see?
- 15:08Speaker 5: Obviously the strangler entered the cave some other way, oh, Grace.
- 15:12Speaker 2: The only other opening into the cave is that natural
- 15:14Speaker 2: window in the rear wall, which overlooks the lake. That
- 15:17Speaker 2: opening is fifty feet above the lake, at the top
- 15:19Speaker 2: of a sheer cliff and root of the cave. Not
- 15:21Speaker 2: a rope down. We've been up there. It's covered with
- 15:23Speaker 2: smooth mutton and no human forever stepped on it. And
- 15:25Speaker 2: at the sides of the cave its sheer precipice too.
- 15:28Speaker 5: Oh well, of course, the killer came here during the rain,
- 15:32Speaker 5: which wiped out his print, lay in wait for Gabriel,
- 15:35Speaker 5: who came with the rain.
- 15:35Speaker 2: It stopped right oppened to the Prince the killer made leaving.
- 15:38Speaker 2: That's not the important point. That the killer couldn't have
- 15:41Speaker 2: got into the cave before Gabriel, Grace. The door was
- 15:44Speaker 2: locked with a new lock, and only Gabriel had the key,
- 15:46Speaker 2: which is still on his person.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Then the killer used a grappling iron at the end
- 15:50Speaker 5: of a strong line.
- 15:51Speaker 2: You mean, throw a line up from the lake, Grace.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Yes, Summon stood in a boat on the lake below
- 15:55Speaker 5: and threw up a grappling iron which caught the window.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Yes again, Docter Grayson and I would have left scratch marks,
- 16:01Speaker 2: and the same at the Rocky opening and there I
- 16:02Speaker 2: ain't no scratch marks. And how do you explain it?
- 16:05Speaker 2: You're wasting your time. Ghosts don't need grappling irons madly footprints, Yes, Grace,
- 16:13Speaker 2: remarkable as it seems. It looks as if Thank Peter
- 16:15Speaker 2: is right the setup Hector Gabriel could only have been
- 16:18Speaker 2: strangled by a ghost. I don't know all this. You've
- 16:33Speaker 2: been crying a whole day and night. But but they
- 16:36Speaker 2: took Nicky. Why don't they let me go? I don't
- 16:39Speaker 2: want to say. What's the inspector up to keep telephoning?
- 16:43Speaker 2: What's going on? I don't know, Grace. I'm still grappling
- 16:47Speaker 2: with a problem and the strangler ghost against don't be stilly, Nikki.
- 16:53Speaker 2: It's the it's the ghost, the ghost. Yes, you where
- 17:00Speaker 2: you're going, missus Gabriel? Dad really shut that down on
- 17:02Speaker 2: such a back again, Inspector ghost sir as Gabriel as
- 17:07Speaker 2: I hear you say you were going somewhere, yes, Tector
- 17:10Speaker 2: home and you can't stop me. It's Gabriel. I've been
- 17:12Speaker 2: a lot of investigating my phone in the past twenty
- 17:14Speaker 2: four hours. One of the things I've discovered is that
- 17:17Speaker 2: your husband was a rich man. He I suppose so,
- 17:21Speaker 2: but why is it? Dad? And then Gabriel's will check
- 17:24Speaker 2: Hillery leaves nearly his entire estate, worth a couple of
- 17:27Speaker 2: million dollars to his wife holder. See you mean you
- 17:31Speaker 2: think I killed Hector? Your husband was almost twenty years
- 17:33Speaker 2: older than you, missus Gabriel, Oh, yes, quite possible. Well
- 17:37Speaker 2: you're crazy. Next thing we know, you'll be accusing me
- 17:39Speaker 2: of strangling Gabriel. Exactly what I had in mind, mister Withers,
- 17:42Speaker 2: What do you mean, Inspector? You and Gabriel read each
- 17:45Speaker 2: other's throat for over twenty years with his enemies. Why
- 17:49Speaker 2: we were friendly enemies. Also, we owned something you wanted bad,
- 17:53Speaker 2: mister Weathers. Gabriel's library the most valuable collection of books
- 17:57Speaker 2: on psychic phenomena in the world. One of the things
- 18:00Speaker 2: I found out in the past twenty four hours is
- 18:03Speaker 2: that Gabriel with the psychic library to ernest with us.
- 18:06Speaker 5: But that's so absurd, Inspector, to kill a man's possession
- 18:09Speaker 5: of some books.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Do you think so, Doctor Greyson?
- 18:12Speaker 5: Maybe you'd agree that your motive was stronger my motive
- 18:17Speaker 5: to kill Hector Gabriel dead.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Grace involved Gabriel. He was his first wife, Gabriel's first wife.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Did you know that ellery? No, I didn't think he Grace.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Surely you're joking, Inspector. Depends in your sense of human
- 18:30Speaker 5: doctor Grayson. The fact is Hector Gabriel ditched you the
- 18:34Speaker 5: matter elder.
- 18:34Speaker 2: And you know what they say about a woman's scorn.
- 18:37Speaker 5: So you think I killed Hector out of revenge for
- 18:39Speaker 5: having thrown me over. I can see your point, Inspector,
- 18:43Speaker 5: Only I didn't.
- 18:44Speaker 2: It's not any one of us. It was the ghost titaner,
- 18:46Speaker 2: the ghost stars, a lot of cameoufly. Yes, one of
- 18:50Speaker 2: your three stranger Gabriel and that cave. The only question
- 18:53Speaker 2: is which one? Who would that? Sad?
- 19:01Speaker 6: See what.
- 19:03Speaker 2: We don't know? Oh, it's just all hank the woods right,
- 19:09Speaker 2: you'd want to know. We want to know what hank.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Right at the edge of the woods where you entered
- 19:14Speaker 2: the trail from here, just a couple of yards from
- 19:17Speaker 2: the lodge, there's a lot of loose stones. Them stones
- 19:21Speaker 2: are slippery from the rain. Eh Alongside them slippery stones
- 19:26Speaker 2: is a couple of small juniper bushes. They've been smashed
- 19:31Speaker 2: flat I figure's how this Phela Gabriel slipped down them
- 19:34Speaker 2: stones on his way to the cave yesterday morning, fell
- 19:38Speaker 2: under them junipersh Hack answer, how fatter it? Certainly a sergeant.
- 19:43Speaker 2: In fact, it clears up the mystery.
- 19:45Speaker 6: What do you mean?
- 19:46Speaker 2: I mean that that now I know the identity of
- 19:48Speaker 2: the ghost of dead Man's Cabin. And there, ladies and gentlemen,
- 20:03Speaker 2: you have the mystery of dead Man's cavern.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Have you an answer to it?
- 20:07Speaker 2: Well, suppose you compare solutions with our guest armchair detectives. Nikki,
- 20:11Speaker 2: Will you please introduce our guests, Well, eurie.
- 20:15Speaker 5: Our first guest tonight is Miss Marjorie Lawrence, famous Metropolitan soprano.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Stricken with infantile paralysis a couple of years ago. Miss
- 20:22Speaker 5: Lawrence has fought against this dread affliction courageously and successfully,
- 20:26Speaker 5: as evidenced by her recent triumph and the role of
- 20:28Speaker 5: the Solda as the net. Our second guest tonight is
- 20:32Speaker 5: Mitch Beverly Kelly of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey
- 20:35Speaker 5: Combined Shows, or as All America calls it, the Circuit,
- 20:40Speaker 5: now playing at Madison Square Garden.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Mister Kelly has described the big top.
- 20:44Speaker 5: Two millions over the radio and his well known author
- 20:47Speaker 5: of books and stories on circus life.
- 20:49Speaker 2: All right, err, thanks nicky Ms.
- 20:51Speaker 6: Lawrence.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Who strangled Gabriel? Well, I don't think anyone strangled him.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I think that he slipped and.
- 21:02Speaker 7: Fell on those stones under the juniper bushes. I think
- 21:06Speaker 7: the moaning sounds came from a natural means, somehow the
- 21:13Speaker 7: wind through the rocks or something.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's what I would say. Thank you, is Lauren. Now,
- 21:19Speaker 2: mister Kelly, who do you think strangle Gabriel? Well, glory
- 21:22Speaker 2: of those footprints outside the cave weren't so small. I
- 21:27Speaker 2: think we could blame it on Gargantua. But I think
- 21:34Speaker 2: I'm going to put my money on Gabriel's first wife
- 21:38Speaker 2: and say that he fell from grace. Thank you, mister Kelly.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Well, how about it, Gang, I think you've got the answer.
- 21:48Speaker 3: The guests have had their say, and Elerie Queen will
- 21:50Speaker 3: tell you the solution in just a few moments. So
- 21:53Speaker 3: to give you a little time to talk it over
- 21:54Speaker 3: and make your guesses, here's music by Frank Duvall and
- 21:57Speaker 3: his orchestra Soliloquy.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Now, first, let's lay the ghosts. No ghost killed hector Gabriel.
- 22:17Speaker 2: The strangler's hands were human hands. They left human fingerprints
- 22:20Speaker 2: deep in the flesh of Gabriel's neck and throat. Wow,
- 22:24Speaker 2: sure that's right, then those moans we heard must have
- 22:28Speaker 2: been made by the wind through the cave. Like doctor
- 22:30Speaker 2: Greyson sat right sided. Now, since the strangler had human hands,
- 22:34Speaker 2: he also had human feet, and human feet leave prince
- 22:37Speaker 2: in mud, but only put prints in the mud with
- 22:40Speaker 2: Gabriel's one set in going.
- 22:43Speaker 5: I know Gabriel choked in the wood and then staggered
- 22:46Speaker 5: across the clearing alone.
- 22:47Speaker 2: To the cave to die. Nikkote, you yourself pointed out
- 22:50Speaker 2: that the trail left by Gabriel's feet across the mud
- 22:52Speaker 2: was perfectly straight.
- 22:54Speaker 6: Men dying of.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Strangulation don't walk in a straight line. No, When Gabriel
- 22:59Speaker 2: crossed back carrying, unlocked the door and entered the cave,
- 23:01Speaker 2: he was perfectly well. So the murder was committed in
- 23:05Speaker 2: the cave, and for the murderer to have choked Gabriel
- 23:08Speaker 2: in the cave, he had to get there. Problem, how
- 23:10Speaker 2: did the killer cross that muddy clearing without leaving footprints?
- 23:13Speaker 2: And the more you think about it, the more obvious
- 23:16Speaker 2: the answer gets well, dear man. He crossed it on
- 23:18Speaker 2: Gabriel's back. Gabriel, Gabriel carried him, Garry. I know ded
- 23:24Speaker 2: other theories are possible, but my theory can be backed up.
- 23:27Speaker 2: What was the exact position of the strangler's thumbs on
- 23:30Speaker 2: Gabriel's neck? The del mark spoited upwards in the back
- 23:33Speaker 2: of Gabriel's neck, which is possible only if at the
- 23:36Speaker 2: time he committed his crime the strangler was behind Gabriel.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Strong confirmation that the strangler rode across that mud on
- 23:42Speaker 2: Gabriel's back, and when Gabriel entered the cave, the person
- 23:45Speaker 2: he was carrying began to choke him before even getting down. Oh, button,
- 23:49Speaker 2: my store. How did the killer made Gabriel carrier? Important question,
- 23:53Speaker 2: Sergeant grown, men don't play piggyback. At five o'clock of
- 23:57Speaker 2: an hat around that morning, one person carrying another suggests
- 24:00Speaker 2: that the person being carried had to be carried an injury. Yes, Dad,
- 24:04Speaker 2: Hank Beet just told us he'd found a place in
- 24:06Speaker 2: the trail where someone had slipped on loose wet stones
- 24:09Speaker 2: and fallen into some juniper bushes. Hank of Pine. It
- 24:12Speaker 2: was Gabriel, because he thought Gabriel was alone. But since
- 24:16Speaker 2: we know Gabriel carried someone, isn't it evident that it
- 24:19Speaker 2: wasn't Gabriel who slipped and fell but his companion Kenneth
- 24:22Speaker 2: faked deptember tended to twist his ankler some thing said
- 24:25Speaker 2: he couldn't walk. Gabriel ed him all the way through
- 24:28Speaker 2: the woods to the cave exactly. And why deliberately to
- 24:31Speaker 2: leave only one set of footprints in that mud Gabriel's
- 24:35Speaker 2: to make us believe that the murder had been the
- 24:37Speaker 2: work of a convenient strangler ghost of the haunted cave.
- 24:40Speaker 5: All right, Harry, you've accounted for how the strangler got
- 24:43Speaker 5: into the cave without leaving Frinch?
- 24:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but how did he get out my stroll without
- 24:47Speaker 2: leaving him after Gabriel was dead? And the only way
- 24:51Speaker 2: possible through that natural window in the cave wall. Yes,
- 24:54Speaker 2: For while no one could have got into the cave
- 24:56Speaker 2: who the opening in the cave wall, someone could have
- 24:59Speaker 2: got out simply by diving out into the lake below.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Two did all his son dad? Where did Hank say
- 25:05Speaker 2: he found the crush bushes at the edge of the
- 25:07Speaker 2: woods as he went to the train leaving doctor Grayson's rage.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yet yet in fact, Hank said it was only a
- 25:13Speaker 2: few yards from the lodge. But observed the killer pretends
- 25:17Speaker 2: to injure himself a few yards from the lodge, yet
- 25:20Speaker 2: Gabriel carried him all the way through the woods to
- 25:22Speaker 2: the cave. Why why didn't Gabriel carry him fact a
- 25:26Speaker 2: few yards.
- 25:27Speaker 6: To the house.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Wouldn't he have done that if, say, his companion had
- 25:30Speaker 2: been his wife, or doctor Grayson, or in fact, anyone
- 25:33Speaker 2: except one person, one who pressure. There can be only
- 25:36Speaker 2: one reason why Gabriel carried his companion all the way
- 25:39Speaker 2: to the cave, and that was because he and the
- 25:41Speaker 2: killer were bound for the cave, because he and the
- 25:44Speaker 2: killer were supposed to share the cave for the next
- 25:46Speaker 2: twenty four hours. Over, yes, Gabriel's companion, the man who
- 25:50Speaker 2: got his victim up an hour earlier than planned on
- 25:53Speaker 2: some trumped up excuse, wanted to kill Gabriel because he
- 25:56Speaker 2: hated him for over twenty years, and because Gabriel had
- 25:59Speaker 2: willed him his union week and valuable psychic library. That
- 26:02Speaker 2: man could only have been earnest with it.
- 26:12Speaker 3: And there you have the solution to the mystery. How
- 26:15Speaker 3: did you gi detectives do did you have the right answer. Well,
- 26:19Speaker 3: we have a few minutes remaining, so here's more music
- 26:21Speaker 3: by Frank duvalin his orchestra Dancing in the Dark.
- 26:30Speaker 9: This is Andrew Ryans with Otrwesterns dot com, where we

- 27:00Speaker 9: detectives of Old time Radio with Adam Graham and now
- 27:03Speaker 9: let's get back into the show.
- 27:10Speaker 8: Welcome back. Well, I have to say that I was
- 27:14Speaker 8: disappointed that whoever preserve this cut out the musical cues. Unfortunately,
- 27:21Speaker 8: unless somebody out there has got an orchestra, not a
- 27:24Speaker 8: whole lot we can do about it. They did preserve
- 27:27Speaker 8: the armchair detective part, and I did enjoy that. I
- 27:32Speaker 8: love puns and I think I don't know if the
- 27:35Speaker 8: star actually thought he had a solution, but basically when
- 27:43Speaker 8: ahead and decided to go ahead and just at least
- 27:49Speaker 8: get off a good pun. Overall, a pretty interesting story.
- 27:54Speaker 8: We do now turn to our listener comments and feedback.
- 27:59Speaker 8: We started off with Dave, who comments, just loving all
- 28:04Speaker 8: you got going on old time radio. Way better than
- 28:08Speaker 8: modern TV, dregs of tired ideas and reality shows. Thanks
- 28:14Speaker 8: for giving my wife and I are reason to snuggle
- 28:17Speaker 8: on the couch together, gathered around the WiFi Bluetooth radio.
- 28:23Speaker 8: How about a shout out for US Canadian listeners all
- 28:27Speaker 8: the best, keep up the great work well, thanks so much.
- 28:30Speaker 8: Dave definitely appreciate your comments and also retweeted a couple
- 28:36Speaker 8: of posts and thanks to all of our listeners in Canada.
- 28:40Speaker 8: Canadian listeners actually account for about ten percent of the
- 28:45Speaker 8: show's total downloads, so we definitely appreciate all our great
- 28:51Speaker 8: Canadian listeners. And now we also have a review from
- 28:56Speaker 8: the iTunes store, and this is of the app. Arthur
- 28:59Speaker 8: Cam writes, I can't comment on the quality of the
- 29:05Speaker 8: technical but I'm disabled and have been for almost twenty years.
- 29:10Speaker 8: I just love old radio shows, especially detective stories. I
- 29:16Speaker 8: have other old time radio apps, but so far, the
- 29:20Speaker 8: great Detectives is my favorite, and it has TV shows too.
- 29:25Speaker 8: Too many days I'm feeling anxious or down because of
- 29:28Speaker 8: my physical limitations, and.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I turn on Sherlock or Marlowe or one.
- 29:34Speaker 8: Of my other favorites, my mind gets distracted. I feel
- 29:38Speaker 8: better thirty minutes at a time. I enjoyed the selection,
- 29:43Speaker 8: the random playlist, the continuous feedback. My sixteen year old
- 29:47Speaker 8: has insomnia issues. I can't count the times we are
- 29:51Speaker 8: listening to the Great Detectives at one, two, or three am.
- 29:56Speaker 8: He really enjoys listening, which helps him relax and fall asleep.
- 30:01Speaker 8: Matt take a few shows.
- 30:04Speaker 1: The word is enjoy.
- 30:05Speaker 8: Well. Thank you so much and really glad we're able
- 30:10Speaker 8: to help. Truly appreciate your con comments out there. Thanks
- 30:14Speaker 8: so much and all the best to you and your son.
- 30:17Speaker 8: Well that will do it for today. We'll be back
- 30:20Speaker 8: tomorrow with the adventures of Philip marlow and then join
- 30:24Speaker 8: us back here again next Tuesday for another episode of
- 30:28Speaker 8: Ellery Queen. In the meantime, send your comments to Box
