- 1:34Speaker 1: reading from the web. You guys are going to want
- 1:37Speaker 1: your Bibles in front of you, I think for this
- 1:38Speaker 1: episode because I am going to be jumping around in
- 1:41Speaker 1: scripture quite a bit today as we discuss the Trinity
- 1:44Speaker 1: and also modalism and some other more in depth topics
- 1:50Speaker 1: today based upon what we are reading again, this is
- 1:53Speaker 1: First Peter one ten through sixteen concerning this salvation. The
- 1:58Speaker 1: profits sought and searched diligently. They prophesied of the grace
- 2:03Speaker 1: that would come to you, searching for who or what
- 2:05Speaker 1: kind of time. The Spirit of Christ which was in them,
- 2:08Speaker 1: pointed to when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and
- 2:10Speaker 1: the glories that would follow them to them. It was
- 2:13Speaker 1: revealed that they served not themselves but you in these
- 2:16Speaker 1: things which now have been announced to you through those
- 2:19Speaker 1: who preach the good news to you by the Holy
- 2:21Speaker 1: Spirit sent out from Heaven, which things angels desire to
- 2:24Speaker 1: look into. Therefore, prepare your minds for action, be sober,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and set your hope fully on the grace that will
- 2:31Speaker 1: be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
- 2:34Speaker 1: as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your
- 2:37Speaker 1: former lusts, as in your ignorance. But just as he
- 2:40Speaker 1: who called you as holy, you yourselves also be holy
- 2:43Speaker 1: in all of your behavior, because it is written you
- 2:46Speaker 1: shall be holy, for I am holy. On Tuesday, we
- 2:50Speaker 1: talked about the first portion of First Peter, and if
- 2:52Speaker 1: you did not get a chance to listen to that episode,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I highly recommend that you do go back and listen
- 2:56Speaker 1: to it so that you're up to date with everything
- 2:58Speaker 1: that we previously talked about. To put it all in
- 3:02Speaker 1: a nutshell, Peter was writing to the Christians who were
- 3:06Speaker 1: going through persecution, reminding them that they have been given
- 3:11Speaker 1: a grand gift, this gift of salvation, and since they've
- 3:16Speaker 1: been given salvation, we should be living as people changed
- 3:19Speaker 1: by God. So here's what he says in verse ten,
- 3:22Speaker 1: which starts our passage for today concerning the salvation, the
- 3:26Speaker 1: prophets sought and searched diligently. They prophesied of the grace
- 3:30Speaker 1: that would come to you, searching for who or what
- 3:33Speaker 1: kind of time. The Spirit of Christ which was in them,
- 3:37Speaker 1: pointed to when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and
- 3:40Speaker 1: the glories that would follow them. So Peter is going
- 3:43Speaker 1: all the way back to the Prophets in order to
- 3:46Speaker 1: prove how special salvation actually is, because as Christians, you know,
- 3:51Speaker 1: we have a tendency sometimes to forget the sufferings of Jesus.
- 3:56Speaker 1: For those of you who've grown up in the church
- 3:59Speaker 1: like I have, you might even get kind of bored
- 4:02Speaker 1: with the Gospel message. And I am ashamed to say
- 4:04Speaker 1: that that has been me throughout the years where I'm like, man,
- 4:08Speaker 1: I wish we'd go into like more in depth topics.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You know, I've heard about Jesus's sacrifice a million times.
- 4:14Speaker 1: But here's the thing. Jesus's sacrifice is what the entire
- 4:18Speaker 1: Gospel hinges on. It's what everything is connected to in scripture.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Even the Old Testament points to Jesus and to his sacrifice.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Everything in the Bible is connected by Jesus's love for
- 4:32Speaker 1: humanity and his sacrifice for the entire world. It is
- 4:37Speaker 1: something that we should be treating with great reverence. In fact,
- 4:40Speaker 1: Peter actually says that at the very beginning of his letter.
- 4:44Speaker 1: He says in verse two that he's essentially writing this
- 4:46Speaker 1: letter that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled
- 4:49Speaker 1: with his blood. Thinking about Jesus's sacrifice on a day
- 4:54Speaker 1: to day basis for our souls, it's probably one of
- 4:57Speaker 1: the most healthy things that we can reflect on, thanking
- 5:01Speaker 1: Jesus for what he has done, giving reverence to him
- 5:04Speaker 1: for his sacrifice that he did not need to do
- 5:07Speaker 1: on behalf of sinful humanity, remembering our flaws, remembering our
- 5:14Speaker 1: sins that we laid on Jesus's shoulders, and remembering that
- 5:18Speaker 1: Jesus did physically and tortuously suffer for us, and that
- 5:22Speaker 1: his blood truly did flow on our behalf. And this
- 5:26Speaker 1: is how important this salvation actually is. Even the prophets
- 5:31Speaker 1: in the Old Testament were seeking it diligently. It says
- 5:35Speaker 1: in verse ten that the prophets sought and searched diligently
- 5:39Speaker 1: concerning this salvation, So they were looking for this, they
- 5:42Speaker 1: were wondering what was going to happen. And this is
- 5:45Speaker 1: an excellent answer for anybody who questions, if people don't
- 5:51Speaker 1: hear the name of Jesus, does that automatically mean that
- 5:54Speaker 1: God is going to send them straight to hell? Well, no,
- 5:56Speaker 1: because even the prophets in the Old Testament had never
- 5:59Speaker 1: heard the name of Jesus. They just understood that a
- 6:02Speaker 1: messiah was coming. They understood that salvation was coming. So no,
- 6:06Speaker 1: God does not throw every single person that doesn't hear
- 6:08Speaker 1: the name of Jesus straight into hell, because he didn't
- 6:11Speaker 1: even do it in the Old Testament days. But it
- 6:13Speaker 1: does say. I think it's in Romans ten that people
- 6:16Speaker 1: have no excuse for not understanding about God, even if
- 6:19Speaker 1: they never do hear the name of Jesus Christ, even
- 6:22Speaker 1: if they die their entire life not hearing Jesus's name once,
- 6:27Speaker 1: there is still no excuse for them not to know God,
- 6:31Speaker 1: because they can see creation, and creation testifies that there
- 6:36Speaker 1: is a God. I was reading a book recently called
- 6:40Speaker 1: Tortured for Christ by this guy named Wormbrand, and he
- 6:45Speaker 1: went through extreme suffering and persecution during the nineteen forties
- 6:51Speaker 1: under Joseph Stalin terrible things happened to Christians in Russia
- 6:55Speaker 1: during that time with the Communist takeover, and he was
- 6:58Speaker 1: talking about the underground church that he started before he
- 7:02Speaker 1: got arrested and tortured, and he dedicated his ministry to
- 7:06Speaker 1: reaching Russian soldiers and people who worked for the Russian
- 7:10Speaker 1: Communist government. And he met to this husband and wife
- 7:14Speaker 1: couple who were sculptors and they were tasked with sculpting
- 7:18Speaker 1: a large statue I guess of Stalin. And apparently what
- 7:22Speaker 1: happened was before they even talked to Pastor Wormbrand, they
- 7:28Speaker 1: were fascinated over the fact that they had thumbs, saying
- 7:32Speaker 1: that if we didn't have thumbs, we would never be
- 7:35Speaker 1: able to hold our hammers or our chisels, we would
- 7:39Speaker 1: never be able to do anything. In fact, all of humanity,
- 7:41Speaker 1: if we didn't have thumbs would be completely useless. We
- 7:45Speaker 1: wouldn't be able to do half of the things that
- 7:47Speaker 1: we are able to accomplish now with our thumbs. And
- 7:50Speaker 1: the thumb is such a small little thing that essentially
- 7:54Speaker 1: it controls the course of life. So there must be
- 7:58Speaker 1: somebody out there who created the thumb. And in order
- 8:01Speaker 1: not to get arrested and tortured, for believing in God.
- 8:06Speaker 1: They called God, who they worshiped nobody, and they said,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I worshiped nobody because they didn't know God's name. They
- 8:12Speaker 1: had never heard the name of Jesus once in their
- 8:15Speaker 1: entire lives until they met Pastor Wormbrandt, who witnessed to
- 8:19Speaker 1: them about Jesus. And they were fascinated because they had
- 8:23Speaker 1: been worshiping Jesus that entire time, the creator of the universe,
- 8:28Speaker 1: the savior of the world. And they just understood these
- 8:31Speaker 1: things about Jesus because they saw their own thumbs. They
- 8:35Speaker 1: saw creation, because Creation talks about Jesus. But that was
- 8:39Speaker 1: a very long tangent. I was talking about how the
- 8:41Speaker 1: prophets of old never heard the name Jesus, but they
- 8:44Speaker 1: were worshiping him as the Messiah. They knew that the
- 8:49Speaker 1: Messiah was going to come, but they were searching, it
- 8:52Speaker 1: says in verse eleven, for who or what kind of time.
- 8:55Speaker 1: The Spirit of Christ which was in them, pointed to
- 8:58Speaker 1: when he predicted the Son, the frings of Christ, and
- 9:00Speaker 1: the glories that would follow them. So it's really interesting
- 9:04Speaker 1: here because the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of
- 9:07Speaker 1: Christ right here. Some of your versions might say the
- 9:11Speaker 1: Spirit of Jesus. In fact, if you turn to Acts
- 9:15Speaker 1: chapter sixteen, verse seven, this is not the only time
- 9:18Speaker 1: we see the Spirit of Jesus mentioned. When they came
- 9:22Speaker 1: to Missia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the
- 9:25Speaker 1: Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. That's from the
- 9:28Speaker 1: CSB version, by the way, So the Spirit of Jesus
- 9:32Speaker 1: is mentioned on a handful of occasions throughout scripture, and
- 9:36Speaker 1: that might make you wonder, is the Holy Spirit Jesus's
- 9:40Speaker 1: spirit instead of a third member of the Trinity. Is
- 9:43Speaker 1: he just the Spirit of Jesus, almost like Jesus in
- 9:46Speaker 1: a different form. So let's go to Romans eight, verses
- 9:50Speaker 1: one through eleven and see how Paul describes the Trinity.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Starting in verse one, it says, there is therefore now
- 9:57Speaker 1: no condemnation to those who are in Christ. Jesus so
- 10:01Speaker 1: first member of the Trinity, who don't walk according to
- 10:04Speaker 1: the flesh, but according to the spirit. Second member of
- 10:08Speaker 1: the Trinity. For the law of the Spirit of life
- 10:12Speaker 1: in Christ, Jesus made me free from the law of
- 10:15Speaker 1: sin and death. For what the law couldn't do, in
- 10:18Speaker 1: that it was weak through the flesh, God did. So
- 10:21Speaker 1: that's the third member of the Trinity, God the Father
- 10:23Speaker 1: sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and for sin. He condemned sin in the flesh, that
- 10:30Speaker 1: the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us,
- 10:33Speaker 1: who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to
- 10:36Speaker 1: the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh
- 10:39Speaker 1: set their minds on the things of the flesh, but
- 10:41Speaker 1: those who live according to the Spirit the things of
- 10:45Speaker 1: the Spirit. So Paul is differentiating between all three members
- 10:50Speaker 1: of the Trinity, saying that all three of them had
- 10:53Speaker 1: different roles in accomplishing the same goal. So first and foremost,
- 10:58Speaker 1: Jesus Christ did the sacrifice. Secondly, the Spirit used Jesus's
- 11:03Speaker 1: sacrifice to provide freedom, and God the Father sent his
- 11:08Speaker 1: son Jesus to become the sacrifice. So they all had
- 11:13Speaker 1: the exact same goal, but they all had separate roles
- 11:17Speaker 1: in accomplishing that goal. So, continuing in verse nine, it says,
- 11:22Speaker 1: but you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit.
- 11:25Speaker 1: If it is so that the Spirit of God dwells
- 11:27Speaker 1: in you. But if any man doesn't have the Spirit
- 11:30Speaker 1: of Christ, he is not his. So there's another mention
- 11:34Speaker 1: of the spirit of Jesus or the Spirit of Christ.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So the Spirit is now referred to in this passage
- 11:40Speaker 1: as three different things. Firstly the Spirit of God, secondly
- 11:44Speaker 1: the Spirit of Christ, and thirdly the Spirit of Life.
- 11:49Speaker 1: This passage reminds us that there are three members of
- 11:53Speaker 1: the Trinity, but that all three members are God. That
- 11:57Speaker 1: is why Isaiah nine, verse six can say this about Jesus.
- 12:03Speaker 1: For a child is born to us, a son is
- 12:06Speaker 1: given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and his name will be called Wonderful counselor Mighty God,
- 12:14Speaker 1: Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. All of those names describe
- 12:20Speaker 1: a member of the Trinity. That Jesus's name will reflect
- 12:24Speaker 1: each member of the Trinity. Wonderful Counselor that's who we
- 12:28Speaker 1: call the Spirit, Mighty God, that is who we call
- 12:31Speaker 1: all three of them. Actually, Everlasting Father, that is who
- 12:34Speaker 1: we call the Father, and Prince of Peace, that is
- 12:38Speaker 1: who we call Jesus. So this son, Jesus Christ is
- 12:42Speaker 1: all of them. He is the Wonderful Counselor, he is
- 12:45Speaker 1: Mighty God, he is the Everlasting Father, and he is
- 12:48Speaker 1: the Prince of Peace. But he's also different from each
- 12:52Speaker 1: one of them as well. I am not a modalist,
- 12:56Speaker 1: which means that God is just one person and he
- 13:00Speaker 1: wears different masks depending on what he is doing. So,
- 13:03Speaker 1: in other words, he's God the Father most of the time,
- 13:06Speaker 1: but he came down as Jesus, so God the Father
- 13:09Speaker 1: was not actually in heaven anymore because he assumed the
- 13:12Speaker 1: form of Jesus to come down to earth. They just
- 13:15Speaker 1: believe that there is no trinity, essentially, that God is
- 13:19Speaker 1: just one being that assumes different forms depending on what
- 13:23Speaker 1: he is doing. But I'm not a modalist, and I
- 13:26Speaker 1: think that modalism is blatantly unbiblical because if God was
- 13:32Speaker 1: just one entity and there was no trinity, then that
- 13:35Speaker 1: makes scripture out to be a liar in a lot
- 13:38Speaker 1: of cases. For example, when it says no one has
- 13:41Speaker 1: seen God, that is referring to God the Father, no
- 13:44Speaker 1: one has seen him. If the Father is the exact
- 13:47Speaker 1: same person as Jesus and he comes down to earth, well,
- 13:51Speaker 1: then that verse becomes a lie because people did see
- 13:54Speaker 1: God the Father at that point. And then there's verses,
- 13:57Speaker 1: for example, where Jesus says that once he ascends back
- 14:01Speaker 1: up into Heaven that somebody greater than him is going
- 14:04Speaker 1: to come. Well, if Jesus is the exact same person
- 14:07Speaker 1: as the Holy Spirit, why would Jesus call one form
- 14:11Speaker 1: of himself greater than another form of himself? And there
- 14:15Speaker 1: are just too many scriptural passages that talk about the trinity,
- 14:19Speaker 1: even going back to the very beginning of everything in
- 14:23Speaker 1: the Book of Genesis, chapter three, verse twenty two, right
- 14:27Speaker 1: after the man and the woman sinned in the garden.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Here's what God says in verse twenty two. Yahweh God said, behold,
- 14:34Speaker 1: the man has become like one of us, knowing good
- 14:37Speaker 1: and evil. Now lest he reach out his hand and
- 14:40Speaker 1: also take of the tree of life and eat and
- 14:43Speaker 1: live forever. Therefore, Yahweh God sent him out of the
- 14:46Speaker 1: garden of Eden to till the ground from which he
- 14:49Speaker 1: was taken. God right there in that verse said that
- 14:53Speaker 1: there was a trinity. He said, us us infers that
- 14:58Speaker 1: there is more than one. So modalism is just not biblical.
- 15:04Speaker 1: There is no basis for it in scripture. And that
- 15:06Speaker 1: is certainly not what Peter is implying in One Peter
- 15:11Speaker 1: one eleven that the Spirit of Christ means that the
- 15:13Speaker 1: Spirit is the exact same person as Christ. He's not
- 15:17Speaker 1: saying that there is no trinity. He is saying that
- 15:20Speaker 1: there is a trinity where all three persons are interconnected,
- 15:24Speaker 1: that all three of them are different yet equal. He
- 15:28Speaker 1: says the Spirit of Christ, which was in these prophets
- 15:31Speaker 1: pointed to when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and
- 15:34Speaker 1: the glories that would follow them to them. It was
- 15:36Speaker 1: revealed that they served not themselves but you in these
- 15:39Speaker 1: things which now have been announced to you through those
- 15:42Speaker 1: who preached the good news to you by the Holy
- 15:44Speaker 1: Spirit sent out from Heaven, which things angels desire to
- 15:49Speaker 1: look into. So first and foremost the prophets, even though
- 15:52Speaker 1: they were diligently searching for what this salvation meant, what
- 15:57Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit was telling them, they desperately wanted to
- 16:00Speaker 1: know it themselves, but they began to understand over time
- 16:04Speaker 1: that they weren't going to get the answer to their question,
- 16:07Speaker 1: at least not on this side of eternity. They were
- 16:10Speaker 1: prophesying for the benefit of people in the future, the
- 16:14Speaker 1: benefit for people like us who can go back and
- 16:17Speaker 1: read the prophets right now. For example, that verse in
- 16:20Speaker 1: Isaiah that we just read about Jesus that a son
- 16:23Speaker 1: would be born to us, we can go back and
- 16:25Speaker 1: read that Isaiah wrote that hundreds of years before Jesus
- 16:30Speaker 1: was born, and be like, wow, this is the truth.
- 16:34Speaker 1: All of this stuff has been preserved, which, by the way,
- 16:36Speaker 1: the Book of Isaiah. God proved how preserved that book
- 16:41Speaker 1: specifically really was when the Dead Sea Scrolls were found,
- 16:45Speaker 1: and the Dead Sea Scrolls were written two hundred years
- 16:48Speaker 1: before Jesus was born, and when scholars compared what was
- 16:52Speaker 1: found in the Isaiah version of the Dead Sea Scrolls
- 16:55Speaker 1: to the modern nineteen forties version of Isaiah, it was
- 17:00Speaker 1: nearly word for word, absolutely amazing how the Book of
- 17:03Speaker 1: Isaiah has been preserved. It talks about everything from Jesus's
- 17:09Speaker 1: birth to his death, to the Second Coming, to the millennia.
- 17:14Speaker 1: It talks about like everything, it is prophecy through and
- 17:17Speaker 1: through some of it not even being fulfilled, yet absolutely amazing.
- 17:21Speaker 1: And these prophets were writing these things on our behalf,
- 17:25Speaker 1: knowing that God was using them to serve people in
- 17:28Speaker 1: the future, to serve us, to serve you, to serve me,
- 17:33Speaker 1: and even for the angels as well. This isn't just
- 17:35Speaker 1: a benefit for you and I, but also for the angels.
- 17:39Speaker 1: We've talked a little bit about how angels don't quite
- 17:43Speaker 1: understand the message of salvation the same way that humans do.
- 17:47Speaker 1: It hasn't been revealed to them in the same way.
- 17:50Speaker 1: So the angels actually are looking into things themselves. They
- 17:55Speaker 1: are attending our church services. That's mentioned in First Corinthians,
- 17:58Speaker 1: I think ten. They are viewing how Christians live their lives.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I think that's mentioned in First Corinthians four. And they're
- 18:06Speaker 1: also viewing how Jesus responds to somebody becoming saved. Actually
- 18:12Speaker 1: that's mentioned in let's see here. I think it was Luke,
- 18:17Speaker 1: chapter fifteen, verse ten. Even so, I tell you there
- 18:21Speaker 1: is joy in the presence of the angels of God
- 18:24Speaker 1: over one sinner repenting. Notice that verse. A lot of
- 18:29Speaker 1: times that verse is misconstrued to say that the angels
- 18:32Speaker 1: are joyful when a sinner repents. But that's not what
- 18:36Speaker 1: it says. It says there is joy in the presence
- 18:39Speaker 1: of the angels of God over one sinner repenting. It
- 18:43Speaker 1: is God who is doing the rejoicing in the presence
- 18:47Speaker 1: of the angels. That is so much more grand than
- 18:50Speaker 1: twisting it to say that the angels are rejoicing over us. No,
- 18:53Speaker 1: it is God himself rejoicing over us, and the angels
- 18:57Speaker 1: are watching that because they don't quite under stand the
- 19:01Speaker 1: mystery of salvation yet it hasn't fully been revealed to them.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And that's what Ephesians three nine through eleven says, to
- 19:10Speaker 1: make all men see what is the administration of the mystery,
- 19:13Speaker 1: which for ages has been hidden in God, who created
- 19:17Speaker 1: all things through Christ Jesus, to the intent that now,
- 19:20Speaker 1: through the assembly, the manifold wisdom of God might be
- 19:24Speaker 1: made known to the principalities and the powers in the
- 19:28Speaker 1: heavenly places, according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished
- 19:32Speaker 1: in Christ, Jesus our Lord. So that was written by Paul,
- 19:36Speaker 1: and he basically says that the mystery that has been
- 19:38Speaker 1: revealed to us, that was hidden for ages, still is
- 19:42Speaker 1: not quite revealed to the angels. So the angels, going
- 19:45Speaker 1: back to one Peter one, they desire to look into
- 19:50Speaker 1: this message of salvation. They are trying to figure it
- 19:53Speaker 1: out for themselves right now, is what Peter says. That
- 19:57Speaker 1: is how amazing this salvation is that the prophets prophesied
- 20:01Speaker 1: about it hundreds of years, thousands of years in some cases,
- 20:05Speaker 1: before Jesus even was born, and that the angels now
- 20:10Speaker 1: are attending our church services looking at our lives, looking
- 20:14Speaker 1: into these prophecies, desiring to understand this salvation. That is
- 20:19Speaker 1: how amazing all of this really is. So Peter gives
- 20:23Speaker 1: us a call to action. He says, therefore, prepare your
- 20:25Speaker 1: minds for action, be sober, and set your hope fully
- 20:29Speaker 1: on the grace that will be brought to you at
- 20:31Speaker 1: the revelation of Jesus Christ. So Jesus is going to
- 20:35Speaker 1: give us grace when he returns, which means that we
- 20:39Speaker 1: need to be watching out for him. That's actually what
- 20:41Speaker 1: Jesus mentions in Luke twelve thirty five. He says, let
- 20:45Speaker 1: your waist be dressed in your lamps burning, and he
- 20:48Speaker 1: goes on to give a parable about people who are
- 20:52Speaker 1: watching for their lord. So we have to be watching
- 20:56Speaker 1: and waiting for Jesus that when he does come again
- 20:59Speaker 1: the second time, which I believe wholeheartedly that he wills someday,
- 21:04Speaker 1: we won't be left in the dark. We won't be
- 21:06Speaker 1: caught not waiting for him or caught surprised by his presence,
- 21:09Speaker 1: but we'll be ready for him, ready for him to
- 21:12Speaker 1: take us up into heaven and finally free us from
- 21:15Speaker 1: this temporary life that we currently live. That's why, to
- 21:19Speaker 1: conclude in one Peter one fourteen and fifteen, he says,
- 21:24Speaker 1: be children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your
- 21:28Speaker 1: former lusts, as in ignorance. But just as he who
- 21:32Speaker 1: called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in
- 21:35Speaker 1: all of your behavior, because it is written you shall
- 21:37Speaker 1: be holy, for I am holy, and I apologize. It
- 21:40Speaker 1: was actually to verse sixteen. Jesus calls us to be
- 21:44Speaker 1: holy in all things because he himself is holy. And
- 21:48Speaker 1: if we're gonna say that we believe in Jesus, then
- 21:51Speaker 1: we better be obedient to what he says. If we
- 21:54Speaker 1: tell Jesus God, we are going to serve you, then
- 21:57Speaker 1: we better serve him. We better obey him, just as
- 21:59Speaker 1: a servant obeys their master. So also we Christian servants
- 22:04Speaker 1: must obey our master, otherwise we're not really servants. And
- 22:09Speaker 1: that is what Peter's entire letter comes down to, is obedience.
- 22:13Speaker 1: How do you truly follow Jesus in the truth. So
- 22:16Speaker 1: in order to be ready for Jesus, we have to
- 22:19Speaker 1: turn away from the previous sins and lusts that we
- 22:22Speaker 1: used to do, and we have to follow after Jesus
- 22:25Speaker 1: as he conforms our life as He molds us into
- 22:28Speaker 1: something that looks more like him, and we allow him
- 22:33Speaker 1: to do that in our lives, and that is how
- 22:35Speaker 1: we are going to be ready for Jesus's second coming.
- 22:40Speaker 1: It's really amazing how everything comes down to obedience, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 1: especially as we just finished up the Book of James,
- 22:47Speaker 1: where James mentions that faith without works is dead, and
- 22:51Speaker 1: he mentions the obedience that Abraham had and how that
- 22:54Speaker 1: obedience was actually a work that Abraham performed. So it's
- 22:59Speaker 1: not so much good works that we do for other people,
- 23:02Speaker 1: but it's obedience to what God calls us to do.
- 23:04Speaker 1: That is the good work that we are supposed to
- 23:07Speaker 1: do and the thing that goes hand in hand with faith.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But faithful listeners, before I end today's episode, please listen
- 23:14Speaker 1: to this last sponsored advertisement for today. So faith and
- 23:19Speaker 1: obedience go hand in hand. You know, we talked a
- 23:23Speaker 1: little bit on Tuesday about how we need to be
- 23:26Speaker 1: born again. Being born again, you know, that baby doesn't
- 23:31Speaker 1: know when he or she is conceived in the womb,
- 23:34Speaker 1: and that baby has to grow over time, and that's
- 23:36Speaker 1: kind of the same thing when it comes to us
- 23:39Speaker 1: being born again. We have to learn to grow in
- 23:42Speaker 1: faith and in obedience. Hence why Jesus told his disciples
- 23:46Speaker 1: the Great Commission, which was to go into all the world,
- 23:50Speaker 1: preach the Gospel to every creature, baptize them in the
- 23:53Speaker 1: name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and also
- 23:56Speaker 1: to teach them to obey all of My commandments. We
- 24:00Speaker 1: have to learn obedience and faith over time. We have
- 24:04Speaker 1: to learn faith and obedience over time, and it takes
- 24:07Speaker 1: a while to learn these things. We don't automatically grow
- 24:10Speaker 1: up to adult Christians, which is why it's important for
- 24:13Speaker 1: each of us to constantly be learning about God, to
- 24:17Speaker 1: constantly be in the Word, to be praying to God.
- 24:20Speaker 1: It's important that all of us grow in our faith
- 24:23Speaker 1: and in our obedience, which go hand in hand together.
- 24:27Speaker 1: And what really ends up pleasing God is our faith
- 24:31Speaker 1: also mixed with obedience to His commands. Faithful listeners, have
- 24:35Speaker 1: a fantastic rest of your day. Hope you guys have
