- 0:00The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. This is Stephen
- 0:04Right, you know, listening to tech talk Radio. Yeah, some alung
- 0:08that line. Yeah, I guess that was it. Alright, let's go
- 0:16with it. I love it. I'll say it anyway. All right,
- 0:20this is Stephen Wright and you're listening to tech Talk Radio. But you know
- 0:24I've already been saying that I love you, Steven. Welcome to another episode
- 0:32of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. We got a lot of fun
- 0:36stuff to talk about today. This is this this show. I know Justin
- 0:40and Matt aren't able to make it tonight and Slick wasn't able to make it
- 0:44either, but we've got a packed show for you and we have some fun.
- 0:47Just this last week it was busy, but it was fun and it's
- 0:51just gonna be a great show. I will tell you. If you love
- 0:54photography, you'll definitely love this. Uh, this episode is going to be
- 0:59lit. I like that. I like that excitement. But you know,
- 1:04last week we talked about the Apple Watches, and I'm using version nine of
- 1:10the Apple Watch, and it has transformed the fact that I never I've had
- 1:15other watches before, and I've never just kept them on. I can't take
- 1:19I don't want to take this thing off. I was never a watch person
- 1:21growing up. Yeah, I had watches, didn't like them, never wore
- 1:23a watch. When I got my Apple my Series three back in twenty seventeen
- 1:30or twenty eighteen. At twenty eighteen, I wore it. It was it
- 1:34was awesome, right I had it. I was able to see the time,
- 1:37the weather, right, all this stuff is great. I have a
- 1:38story that revolves around the Apple Watch. All right, So Friday night I
- 1:42had to work late. So I was at work and Haylen was home.
- 1:45She had gone to pick up Max from daycare, and I get a phone
- 1:48call from her. Usually when I get a phone call, it's like something's
- 1:51like she needs my attention right away, right, like she'll text you.
- 1:56Yeah. She usually texted me Yeah. She picks ups and goes. So
- 1:59I have a little bit of a I got home from daycare, I put
- 2:02Max in the house, I shut the door to the garage. I grabbed
- 2:06Daniel out of the car, and the door is locked. Oh my lord,
- 2:08Max has locked me out of the house. Oh my gosh. Max
- 2:13was able to turn the dead bolt on the door just enough that Kaylen couldn't
- 2:16open it, and Max is inside by himself, by himself. Oh my
- 2:20lord, Caylen has the baby. But she had put her purse, which
- 2:23had her phone in it, in the house. Wait, okay, so
- 2:27she called me from her watch. Oh look at that, because her phone
- 2:30was her watch was connected to the Wi Fi. Well, it was close
- 2:34enough to her phone anyways, So she called me from her watch. I
- 2:36don't know, I don't know what to do. My neighbors weren't home,
- 2:38so I hung up with her. I called the Sheriff's department non emergency number
- 2:42and they set the fire department over. Oh my god, the firebug department
- 2:46shows up. They find we had opened up some of the windows this spring
- 2:49because it was nice out, so thankfully we'd left one unlocked. So a
- 2:53firefighter pulled the screen off, opened the ground, you know. So we
- 2:55had a firefighter climb in through our window into the house, grabbed Max,
- 3:00opened the garage door, and everything was fine. Oh my god, that's
- 3:04my Apple watch. Stories that Caylen had to call me. Thankfully she was
- 3:07wearing it, although she would have had to go to the neighbor's house,
- 3:09knock on some doors or something. Well, Max's in the house. So
- 3:14I will share some of the videos from my wives cams of the firefighter in
- 3:17the house of the Max in the house trying to get a pout, you
- 3:22know, because I told Calen's like, look, I'm sure Max is gonna
- 3:25be fine. He's either playing with his cars or trying to get a pouch
- 3:29off of the counter. Well, he got a pouch off the counter for
- 3:31one of his fruit pouches. So right, a little frustrating story, you
- 3:35know, a lesson learned. But the keys that Klen has in her purse
- 3:38don't have a key for the dead bowl, only for the handle of the
- 3:40door, not the dead bowl, so she wasn't able to unlock the de
- 3:45Bult anyways, so resolved in like twenty minutes. Everybody was fine. But
- 3:49if she if she didn't have the Apple Watch and it wasn't paired with the
- 3:52phone. And I want people to understand this because there's still is confusion about
- 3:55this. I've had a couple of people ask me this week about it.
- 3:59The cellular add on, you didn't You don't have to have the cellular add
- 4:02on if you're close to your phone, if you're within range, or if
- 4:06your photo is connected to a local Wi Fi, right, like if your
- 4:10photo is connected to your house WiFi, you will still work through the Wi
- 4:14Fi through iye messaging and things like that. There are limited functions you can't
- 4:16use. But so if she wouldn't have had her watch on, she would
- 4:18have had to go to the neighbor's house to call. Probably she probably would
- 4:21have called nine one one at that point. But you know, so the
- 4:25fire department Lester Heart's clay fire here in South in Granger. They're just on
- 4:29the street. So they were here, they were here. It was like
- 4:30they were there in like three minutes. It was right. Well. One
- 4:32of the features I found out about this week, Sean is my daughter came
- 4:36to visit and she's got an Apple Watch as well, and we went to
- 4:41uh Costco, all right, and so we're walking around Costco and she told
- 4:46me use the walkie talkie feature if you need to reach me. And I
- 4:47said, what's the wakie talkie feature? I had no idea what it is.
- 4:50So on your watch, you can connect with contacts that have an Apple
- 4:57Watch and you can send them a like an invite, so that way if
- 5:02you want to instead of having to call them, pick up your phone and
- 5:06call them. You can actually just use the walkie talkie feature on it and
- 5:12just send a quick little voice message to say, hey, I'm over here
- 5:15by technology or I'm over here by the donuts and everything. So that just
- 5:19makes it easier when you're shopping too. So I'm gonna channel my Interustine and
- 5:24say Apple didn't come up with that first. They didn't because no Nokia had
- 5:29the chirpy, which is exactly the same function you're doing with the walkie talkie.
- 5:35It's just between only you know, the chirp. The push to talk
- 5:40was only between next All users, and this is only between Apple users.
- 5:44So this is the same functionality. It's just funny to think about, right,
- 5:46Yeah, So I'm that's my inter justice. That was your Introjustine.
- 5:50Justin would have been rolling his eyes anytime you have something to say. But
- 5:54yeah, well that's a good story though. I'm glad it came out good
- 5:58and at least Max even understand what he did. Yeah, so you can
- 6:02tell because on the video you can hear because Max likes to say things like
- 6:06Mama, where are you and things like that, And he tried to open
- 6:10the door and he couldn't, and then you could tell he got mad that
- 6:12the door wasn't opening and Caitlyn was trying to talk to him through the door
- 6:15and things like that. So he kind of understood. But when Caitlyn opened
- 6:19to the front door after the fire department was there and Max saw the fire
- 6:23truck, he lost his mind and just bolted out the front door of the
- 6:28fire truck. D he loves fire truck. Well, they didn't come in
- 6:33with the lights blazing, right because they called the non emergency line, but
- 6:36still fire truck in the front yard. It was a comical glad everybody's okay.
- 6:42Nobody was hurt. Nobody was, but it's just we already have copies
- 6:46of the keys made, like we're already back to square one here, So
- 6:49it's just a life lesson that was a little frustrating. So now this past
- 6:54week you've got a chance to experience and a lot of us, even in
- 6:57Arizona, got a chance to experience the northern lights. Yeah, so Noah
- 7:01issued a solar magnetic store warning, which is the first time they've done that
- 7:05in like twenty years. A lot of people, So KP nine is the
- 7:10highest rating I've ever experienced. For the scale KP is the solar scale that
- 7:15they measure the whatever the solar stuff coming off the sun. We knew it
- 7:18was gonna be crazy. Yeah, And I've shot the northern lights a ton.
- 7:21You guys have seen some of my pictures from north and northern Michigan.
- 7:25I've shot them a lot. This is the farthest south I've ever seen them,
- 7:29and I'm I'm in Granger, Indiana. I also saw them when I
- 7:31was in South Bend, a little bit further to the east or to the
- 7:34west, I mean, And they were better than the times that some of
- 7:38the times I've seen them in Northern Michigan. Wow, Friday night, and
- 7:42this is I want to tell this part of it too, because had I
- 7:45not had to come home from work for this max lockout, I would have
- 7:50not remembered to grab my camera bag. Oh. So then I went back
- 7:56to campus to finish some work because I had to prep for a show that
- 7:58I was doing Saturday. When we're were out striking some equipment at the baseball
- 8:03facility because we were done with the baseball game that evening, we just looked
- 8:05up and it was like whoa, and you could just see him overhead so
- 8:09you're able to with the naked eye. All right, cool with the naked
- 8:13eye with the pillars and the curtain they call them curtains that look like they're
- 8:15moving, and it was I was like, this is incredible. So we
- 8:18went to my truck, grabbed my camera, went up on top of the
- 8:22the stadium and shot some pictures from up there. Uh. Those pictures are
- 8:26available on our blog tech talk ready dot com. And I got some pictures
- 8:31with touchdown Jesus in them, and I have to edit some more. But
- 8:35so then I was like, oh, this is this is great. And
- 8:37then they kind of died down. So then the next night the warning was
- 8:39still active. So they said this it's going to be even better the next
- 8:43night. So at I got home and at like ten o'clock, I went
- 8:48out and I started, you know, after Max went to bed and went
- 8:50over to my neighbors and was hanging out with them, and we saw a
- 8:52little bit here and I was like, oh, it's just it's not that
- 8:54great. And then I tracked the International Space Station. So there's you can
- 8:58go to the the Space Station website. I'll get the link for you here.
- 9:03It'll be on the blog and you can have it alert you to when
- 9:05the space station is going to be visible in your area, meaning it travels
- 9:09over it looks like a bright star that's traveling across. I get a text
- 9:13message every time it's available viewable in my area. This is something I've been
- 9:16doing for as long as it's been up. It's been at least fifteen years.
- 9:18Have been tracking the space station following because it's just incredible. Didn't you
- 9:22it's didn't you talk to one of the astronauts once? So well, yeah,
- 9:26one of the astronauts on the space station in twenty twenty one, his
- 9:30son went to Notre Dame. We got hooked up with him. He's an
- 9:33Notre Dame grant. Also, we did some stuff with NASA big basically a
- 9:35big WebEx call and did a down link with the space station, which was
- 9:39pretty cool. One of my bucket lists photographs has been to shoot the space
- 9:45station with the Northern lights. Oh and it went over the night before and
- 9:52went over Friday, went over Friday night, but there were no They weren't
- 9:56visible then. So I got some pictures of it, but it wasn't visible.
- 10:00So I was really bummed because I was like, this was a bucket
- 10:03list thing. There was a maybe a little bit of green glow, a
- 10:05little bit of green glow on the horizon. So that was at ten forty
- 10:09five Friday night. It went over again at twelve forty eight am Saturday morning.
- 10:13So I decided, you know what, I'm just gonna call one of
- 10:16my friends. I'm gonna stay up. We're going to talk about it.
- 10:18I know he's up. He was up at the Mackinaw Bridge in Mackinaw,
- 10:20Michigan, shooting the ord lights up there because they were way more visible up
- 10:24there, three hundred and seventy miles straight north of here. And he was
- 10:26ready. He knew how He's like, it's not cloudy here, I'm seeing
- 10:31him. I think it's going to be great. At twelve thirty they just
- 10:33explodeed and my buddy goes, oh, man, i'm seeing them. RELLI
- 10:37bright here And it was like somebody flipped on a light in my neighbor's backyard
- 10:41and you could just see him in the sky. It got so bright I
- 10:43actually had to change my exposure on my camera because it was too bright.
- 10:46Now it was it was crazy. And then it died down just a little
- 10:50bit. I was like, no, no, I was cursing. I
- 10:52was cursing the gods to me, right, I was like, come on,
- 10:56you sons of guns, right yeah, And it stayed just long enough
- 11:00I was able to get a fifteen second exposure of the space station. So
- 11:05you'll see this little tiny line in my image. Oh is that what that
- 11:07line is? I've seen. I've seen the picture, so the one with
- 11:11the house and it is my friend Brad's. There are four pictures because we
- 11:13were all on the phone together. We did merge our phone calls together,
- 11:16and we were all together in this phone call. And this is something we've
- 11:22all been trying to do. This is something we've all four of us have
- 11:24been trying to get. There wasn't three other people I would have wanted to
- 11:26be together with in a phone call, several hundred miles apart, all shooting
- 11:30the Northern Lights with the space station in it. Oh, that is pretty
- 11:33cool. There are four of us that have pictures with the Northern Lights with
- 11:35the space station in it. And that was a bucket list just for me.
- 11:39But to have all four of us be able to get it. In
- 11:41Granger, Indiana, Caledonia, Michigan, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Mackinaw City,
- 11:46Michigan. Wow, it blew my mind. It was a photographic dream
- 11:50for me to get those two things together. Now. The reason I wanted
- 11:54to do that because normally, when the space station is transitting and you can
- 12:00see the Northern lights, they could they are up there taking pictures and seeing
- 12:03the northern lights. Except this time, really they are. They they are
- 12:09on what's called the transient line, which is literally the line where it's the
- 12:13middle where it's dark on the left and sunlight on the right, so it's
- 12:16too bright for them to see him from the space station. There's a whole
- 12:20article from one of the from one of the astronauts and stuffing right now about
- 12:22why they couldn't see him and stuff. Because my dream was to be able
- 12:26to take a picture from the space station taken around the same time as when
- 12:30I took my picture here on Earth and frame them together. Oh that would
- 12:33have been cool. Yeah, that can't because they couldn't see him from the
- 12:35space station. So explain this to me. What so we were able to
- 12:39see them here somebody in Green Valley where the station is, that they got
- 12:45their photo on television and you could see some of that that purple, that
- 12:48kind of light shade in there. But I noticed that I couldn't really see
- 12:54it with the naked eye. But if I held my camera up and I,
- 13:01you know, just brought down the iris just a bit, I get
- 13:03a pretty good shot and it wasn't like your images, but pretty good.
- 13:07So it's it's like, it's hard to explain, but they're they're visible.
- 13:13And when you take a long exposure along you know, you're having to shutter
- 13:18open for an next other period of time, you capture more light, so
- 13:22you're seeing more of the light in these pictures. So when you look at
- 13:24pictures of the northern lights, right, a lot of people are like,
- 13:26oh my god, that's that's how you see it in the naked eye,
- 13:30not in this far south right. If you were up in Alaska, or
- 13:33you know, in somewhere in Canada, Newfoundland or Finland or Iceland, that's
- 13:37what it looks like with the naked eye. You see those really bright greens,
- 13:41those bright purples, those bright reds. But this far south it just
- 13:43looks like wispy clouds that may have a little bit of luminescent color colors.
- 13:48You might look a little pink, a little green, but with with some
- 13:52creative photography, you can get those colors to come out with long exposures.
- 13:56I want our listeners to check out our blog blog tech talk radio dot com.
- 14:01You get it from the main page of our site. Now, sticking
- 14:03with that theme of photography, Lorie Grace has been doing photography and capturing some
- 14:11of the most amazing weather photography. And I've been following her for about a
- 14:16year on Twitter and I've been just amazed by some of the shots. I
- 14:20gave you the link and told you to take a look. You also were
- 14:22pretty amazed. We're going to talk to her about what it takes to get
- 14:26that perfect shot, how she got into this, and some other things that
- 14:30she's doing a podcast now all about this, so again we'll talk to her.
- 14:33Coming up with more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. I'm
- 14:35sean to Weird. Find us on the web at tech talk radio dot com.
- 14:39We'll be right back now back to tech talk Radio. This is Danny
- 14:43Treo, and you're listening to tech talk Radio, and you better keep listening
- 14:46and I'll come looking for you. One of the things that's really cool about
- 14:52social media is the fact that you could go online and you could find,
- 14:56you know, a profile that you like and wow, this person is pretty
- 15:01amazing and you look at it and every day there's something different, something new,
- 15:05something that just knocks your socks off. And it was really cool because
- 15:09you know, Sean and I we just did this segment talking about the Aurora
- 15:15barrealis, you know, the northern lights, and how he was having so
- 15:18much fun getting out there and taking pictures. And I said, Sean,
- 15:20I've invited somebody on the show today. You weren't gonna absolutely just love the
- 15:26discussion. And of course I'm talking about Laurie Grace. Now. I saw
- 15:31lur Grace about a year ago online and I saw these images and I said,
- 15:37those are powerful. And I mean I've gone out with my you know,
- 15:39Canon seventy in the backyard and I've tried to maybe get some get some
- 15:43photos of what's going on, you know, with a lightning storm, but
- 15:48Laurie just captures it completely. And I am so glad that she was available
- 15:54and is able to talk with us. Laurie, thanks for coming on Tech
- 15:56Talk Radio, and thank you so much for having me. It's a pleasure
- 16:00and to get to get to listen to you and Sean Live and get to
- 16:06get to have a chat one with you, all one on one. It's
- 16:07great. Well, you do amazing, amazing photography. I have to ask
- 16:12what inspired you to get into into photography? Oh wow, you know I
- 16:18have to say that the you know, I always wanted to chase storms.
- 16:22Obviously when I was younger, I was hoping to maybe you know, be
- 16:25a tornado chaser, you know, study at Texas Tech and actually study the
- 16:27dynamics and everything. Math wasn't you know, my best I wasn't best suited
- 16:32for math. But I also life takes you on a different course. So
- 16:36I ended up, you know, when the kids were born in two thousand
- 16:37and when then in nineteen ninety nine and two thousand and three, you know,
- 16:41you want to take better pictures, especially back then. You know,
- 16:44the cell phone pictures weren't really great back then of taking just snaps. So
- 16:48I bought a I don't know whether Digital Rebel x T or something like that,
- 16:52one of the early digital models. And then I started, you know,
- 16:56I was taking tons of pictures of the kids, and then I started
- 16:57pointing them with the roses and then the coyotes. I'd get a telephoto lens,
- 17:02and it just slowly started to that passion started to grow in me,
- 17:06you know, and I wanted more. You know, it's like Johnny five
- 17:08from Short Circuit, more implant, more photography, and it just grew from
- 17:12there, and eventually I realized that that merging came back. I could do
- 17:18what I wanted to back when I was younger, and maybe not be a
- 17:22scientist in it and meteorologist, but I could still capture the beauty of goodness,
- 17:26man, the southern you know, Southern Arizona is a heart of monsoons.
- 17:30And I realized once I started doing that, I pointed my cameras and
- 17:33took me a little bit of trial and error in the first year was pretty
- 17:37ugly, but you know, after that, it was just like you start
- 17:40to learn these the settings to have, how to capture lightning and all of
- 17:42that, and it was just it was it was a match made in heaven
- 17:48or in the skies, I should say, with each capture, there's got
- 17:52to be if you're just go out there taking pictures and you're not thinking about
- 17:57composition, thinking about angles, You're not thinking about what is in the foreground,
- 18:02what is in the background, the picture is not gonna have that.
- 18:04It's gonna be exciting, but it's not gonna have that. You seem to
- 18:07capture all of that and every single picture I've seen, you've got the foreground
- 18:11laid out perfectly, the background. It's it's not done with photoshop. This
- 18:15is an amazing photography, photography you've been able to capture. Thanks Andy.
- 18:21You know, the fact of the matter is for every great shot that I'm
- 18:26personally proud of, you know, I'm not looking for the likes necessarily.
- 18:29Sure, we want to share that image and have a lot of people also
- 18:32go, wow, this is really great work. But for me to be
- 18:34able to do that, for every great shot that I'm proud of, there's
- 18:38probably a thousand more on a camera that are just garbage. And it's trial
- 18:42and error. You know, you get better with time and persistence, but
- 18:47you just have to be and I use the word undaunted right because stormchase.
- 18:49Being a stormchaser, being a photographer that goes out and tries to capture unique
- 18:55imagery like that, you're either gonna it's gonna be a very short lived hobby
- 18:59because you're gonna be sick of it, of all the boredom and the non
- 19:03storms and all that other stuff, or you're going to push forward and look
- 19:07for that next extraordinary moment. And if you've been in Arizona for any length
- 19:11of time, for any summer, those moments are coming, you know,
- 19:15every season, those months during the monsoon season, they're coming. And even
- 19:18then we have the Arizona Nights and we just had the Aurora borealis. So
- 19:22there's always opportunities to succeed. And so it just got a trial and erriage
- 19:27is your friend, and just be persistent and eventually you'll start to learn where
- 19:33you can set up those compositions and wait for that storm to happen, or
- 19:37when the storm is moving in that direction, you already know which little hill
- 19:41out in the desert that you want to get up on. Not too high
- 19:44because you don't want to be struggle whiehlightning. Yeah, but you learn to
- 19:49develop exactly where you want to be right. You don't want to be in
- 19:52front of a you know, in the middle of two sun necessarily, where
- 19:56you're just where there's just tons of power lines and stuff. There are opportunities
- 20:00inside Tucson to capture really great images, but you really have to develop that
- 20:04and hopefully and usually when the storm's not there, I'll see a spot and
- 20:08go, oh, I need to mark this and remember this the next tiger
- 20:11storms, I can come back to this quickly and get a really cool shot.
- 20:15So yeah, it's it's not that easy, but it just takes time.
- 20:18Do you do you follow like weather patterns, like we say, storm
- 20:23chaser? But have you gotten to the point where you'll you know, you'll
- 20:26pull up the National Weather Service and you'll see what are they predicting and then
- 20:32maybe go out and chase obsessively. I'm sorry to say yes, every single
- 20:37day I pull up the weather models and there's there's several websites where you can
- 20:42look at all this data for free, and when you're new at it,
- 20:45you're going, what is all of this? And maybe I'm just better off
- 20:49checking out the forecast on the local news and in the local weather and just
- 20:53be safe that way. Oh, they say there's a twenty chance of storms,
- 20:56so you're saying, there's a chance I'm going to get out. That's
- 21:00my persistence. But after a while you begin to do your own forecasting,
- 21:03and so instead of being you know, out towards Heila Bend, maybe I
- 21:07might be out towards Douglas and knowing that there's a little bit more moisture,
- 21:11you know, moving in and maybe a you know, a back door called
- 21:15front or something. You start to learn these patterns yourself, and so you
- 21:18get out there waiting, and while everybody else might be in a different location,
- 21:22you're sitting there and just knowing, like hoping that the magic happens.
- 21:26And when it happens, you know, I've done dances where no one's looking
- 21:30out, you know, on the east side of the Tierrakawa's raining and lightning
- 21:33and I'm sitting there like an idiot, and i just don't care because I
- 21:37got this beautiful shot of lightning in a rainbow. You know, It's just
- 21:41yeah, I love it is amazing. You can't explain that feeling, right,
- 21:45So I'm going to tell a quick story. So this past this past
- 21:48weekend, we had the Aurora borealis here right so KP nine, which is
- 21:52one of the highest ratings they've ever given it, yep, because they've tracked
- 21:56it and we were able to see them here in Indiana. I've tried them
- 22:00all over the all over the country, and I've shot them all over the
- 22:02country. I lived in northern Michigan for a long time. That's where I
- 22:03grew up, so I've seen them. This was the furthest south I've gotten.
- 22:07One of my bucket list images was to capture the space station at the
- 22:11same time as the War of Royalis. So it happen it went over twice
- 22:15on Saturday morning, So once at ten forty five Friday night and once again
- 22:18at twelve forty five Saturday morning. And three of my other friends and I
- 22:22have been trying to get this, this one image of the space station in
- 22:26the Aura. So four of us were on a phone call together. One
- 22:29of them was at the Macanaw Bridge up up at the Upper Peninsula, one
- 22:32of them was in gun Rappids, the other one in Kalamazoo, and me
- 22:34in Indiana, and all four of us were able to capture the space station
- 22:38in the Aura in four different spots, three hundred and ninety five miles apart.
- 22:42I will tell you it was just such a surreal experience, right,
- 22:45And you say you do that happy dance like I was hooting and hower and
- 22:48dancing around my tripod. Right, It's just an unreal feeling when you get
- 22:52that. So I just I just wanted to share that, Well, we
- 22:55had the auroras here. That's awesome. Like I that that's going to be
- 22:57a lot of technical and from to be able to know when that thing is
- 23:00going to cross and then to have that magic happen where the aurora happens and
- 23:04the space station and your camera's pointed right there in perfect timing in unison.
- 23:10Man, that's quite a feat by the way, Like I, that's really
- 23:12tough. My main focus in photography is astrophotography in space. So you know,
- 23:18I did the eclipse a couple of weeks ago, which is incredible also,
- 23:22but there are tracking tools for all this, so the Internet has been
- 23:26a godsend for that where you can get text messages saying, hey, the
- 23:30space station is going to be visible at four forty five in the morning at
- 23:33this elevation for this long and just doing the math in my head, I
- 23:37was like, this is going to happen during this storm, this solar storm,
- 23:40and I just was able to put the dots together and get it just
- 23:42just perfect. So how I want to see that image too, so I
- 23:47will share them. I will share them with you. Get Yeah, I
- 23:49did capture the aurora here in Arizona by the way like it actually happened here.
- 23:53I was exhausted and my friends said, you know, I'm not into
- 23:57the space weather, but they said, it's happened. You better get your
- 24:00butt out there. I drove two and a half hours from Harriet to east
- 24:03of Florence into the darkness in front of Saguaros and I'm sitting there. The
- 24:07sun goes down and I'm like, what is all this pink all around me?
- 24:11And I pointed the camera up took a picture and it was the aurora
- 24:15overhead, and I'm like, this is incredible. So I've shared a time
- 24:18lapse from here in Rio Rico of you know, the aurora, the pillars
- 24:22just moving over the Santa Rita Mountains. It's just the most amazing thing.
- 24:26Wow. I'm just so glad I was able to capture that too. Yeah,
- 24:29I'm glad that. I'm glad that it was you were able to see
- 24:32that because I have thousands and thousands and thousands of images of the Nord Lights
- 24:37and hours of time laps footers that I've taken over the Nord Lights. So
- 24:40for you guys to be able to get a chance to see that down there,
- 24:42that south is just I'm so grateful that photographers like you had got a
- 24:47chance to see them down there, because it is I can't tell you how
- 24:51surreal it is. I can't. You can't explain it now. I'm you're
- 24:53totally right. I'm wondering, Lorie, like getting the lightning shots you get
- 24:59that. Nobody can just go out and just do that. You have to
- 25:03trial and error and you've got to learn the settings of the camera. I
- 25:07mean you become I sound like you know the guy and karate kid, you
- 25:11become one with the camera of like how long did that take to really kind
- 25:15of master and once you did it? How what was that feeling like?
- 25:19You know the first year, the first couple of years, especially during daytime,
- 25:25right, you know, anybody that knows like the basics of of of
- 25:27cameras and you know you've got your shutter speed and aperture and ISO right,
- 25:32and you're trying to like, okay, here comes the lightning. The first
- 25:34year was about of like, oh, I think there's lightning about going to
- 25:38happen, and I would I would just hold the shutter button down and I'd
- 25:41get home with three thousand images maybe one shot of lightning. Like it was
- 25:45an a physmal failure at it, and I had to I had to do
- 25:48better. And of course I quickly learned though that once you know the sun
- 25:52was going down, I could drag that shutter we call dragging the shutter,
- 25:56and you can open up the shutter to you know, a second or five
- 26:00seconds, and in that time, if lightning happens, you get it.
- 26:02So nighttime photography capturing lightning, it's it's so much easier than trying to do
- 26:08it during the daytime. So during the daytime there are devices they just call
- 26:12them lightning triggers, lightning you know, devices, and some of them are
- 26:18real junk others. So I have I've spent I can't I don't even want
- 26:22to get get into how much I've spent on trying to, you know,
- 26:26invest in these devices. Some work, some don't, but you know,
- 26:30I do rely on some of those during the daytime shots which aren't aren't really
- 26:33the best shots anyway. For me. The magic hour is that sunset hour
- 26:37and the hour after into blue into blue hour, where the lightning, you
- 26:41know, the sun's going down and it lights up the clouds into all sorts
- 26:45of colors and you get that maybe a rainbow, but even even then,
- 26:48you just get the colors of the Arizona sunset and then you and then add
- 26:52lightning to the sauce and you just have you know, you just have the
- 26:56perfect pasta. It is a dumb analogy. No it's not. It's the
- 27:00truth. I mean the shot with the lightning and the rainbow that we can
- 27:04see on your website and definitely we'll put a link up on our blog to
- 27:07it lorigraceaz dot com. That is just that is absolutely amazing where you have
- 27:15those two you have the piece of the rainbow and the power of the lightning
- 27:18bolt. I mean, it's uh, just an amazing shot. Thank you.
- 27:22And you know, I actually love to do that. That's kind of
- 27:25a goal now every year is my most successful I guess online images, my
- 27:30most fire image is people love that, like that one that Sean's got up
- 27:33there. Yeah, that lightning crossing the rainbow. People love that, and
- 27:37so it's it's it's a matter of science, right, how are you going
- 27:41to capture that time and time again? People go, oh, it's you
- 27:44know, I get comments it's a one once in a lifetime shot and I'm
- 27:47like, I've got about forty of those now. But it's it's it's really
- 27:51right. You want to senature back and you want the storm in front of
- 27:53you, and you know you so you get the rainbow, so you and
- 27:56once the rainbow happens, you need that convection in your hoping for a thunderstorm.
- 28:00If you want to plant yourself, you want to drive these roads so
- 28:03that you're between the sun and the storm and when the lightning hits, you
- 28:07know, you can just go. Yeah, it was a once in a
- 28:10lifetime event in a week, you know a little bit. But you know,
- 28:12you just with practice, you start to get better at even navigating around
- 28:17storms safely. How do you how do you go through all of these LORI
- 28:21you come back after a shoot and you've got, you know, thousands of
- 28:23pictures? Is that gonna be? Is that a little time consuming? And
- 28:26are you shooting raw? So, I mean you've got absolutely So you've got
- 28:30to have like a huge storage. I'm looking at like five fourteen terabyte hard
- 28:36drives over here on the site. So yeah. And in fact of the
- 28:38matter is quite honestly, during the monsoon, I chase as much as I
- 28:42can if I'm available. My friends know, my my spouse knows, I'm
- 28:47gone, I've got the dog in the car, and at the end of
- 28:49the night, if the storms are in Lordsburg or in you know, in
- 28:52Texas, and I come back five hours, six hours later, I'll dump
- 28:56all my images off the you know, onto the cards, the cards onto
- 29:00the hard drive, charge everything up, and do it again the next day
- 29:04until there's finally a break, and maybe I'll go through a couple of images
- 29:07to post online like, hey, this was a fun day, but everything
- 29:11else remains, especially the time lapses, right Like I will capture a storm
- 29:15moving across the landscape, but that that's usually about four or five hundred images
- 29:19that I have to process later, you know, into a time lapse and
- 29:22a movie. And then I take all of those and at the end of
- 29:26the year, I'll put out a little monsoon video. I have one on
- 29:29YouTube that's called the Best at the Tucson Monsoon, and I'm so proud of
- 29:33that that video. But there's probably that probably took me four or five years
- 29:37just to create this five minute video. So how did you see the audience
- 29:41on social media grow? For you? You know, I always I always
- 29:44think it's interesting when somebody has a passion, whether it be a video production,
- 29:49astro photography or even cars, and they get people that start looking at
- 29:55their their you know, content like I did when I first saw you on
- 29:59Twitter, and then you like want to just keep looking at it. How
- 30:03did that audience kind of grow? You know? It started off with my
- 30:06Twitter account just became was just photos of me and the dogs, and me
- 30:10and the dogs would go out into the desert on a hike or whatever and
- 30:12just being real. And I was I've always been a little bit of a
- 30:15weather or not, so I would share local Tucson news, Tucson weather,
- 30:18and you just you know, you have an authentic, uh you know,
- 30:22an authentic group of people who follow you, and you you follow them.
- 30:26And then as you as I started to get better at what I was doing,
- 30:30starting to take the photos, my audience grew grew, you know,
- 30:33grew larger and larger, with people saying, hey, I can't wait to
- 30:36you know, I want to come to Arizona to do what you're doing,
- 30:38or I want to be a better photographer, and so it just naturally you
- 30:41get that natural, organic growth. I'm not interested in, you know,
- 30:45having x amount of followers who don't care about what I'm doing, you know,
- 30:51I don't want that. I want people just like I did when I
- 30:52first started. You have that organic group of people, that community of people,
- 30:56and it started in Tucson, right and you know, great group of
- 31:00people. There's some people are photographers. Other people just enjoy being here and
- 31:03looking at the beautiful and you know, the night skies or the storms and
- 31:08and that's just something that we can all come together on in a time where
- 31:12there's so much division when people go, oh, I didn't know that that
- 31:15you thought this about this politician. Yeah, they don't care. They just
- 31:19want to see the pretty stuff. So I'm trying to just maintain that and
- 31:23that that nice little coziness despite the growth, and the growth has been great
- 31:27and I'm just so glad that more people get to see what I'm doing they
- 31:30appreciate it. And you also build a following up of like minded individuals that
- 31:36also like to do this. And it's a neat way to you know,
- 31:38get your own kind of group together of people that say, oh, look
- 31:41this is the shot I got. It's like you know Sean, you know,
- 31:44showing the shots of that he got of the Aurora of Barlealis, the
- 31:49northern lights. And then of course the stuff from the eclipse. It's it's
- 31:52always great and you get other people that say, oh, I like that,
- 31:56and so that's really a cool thing, although it could dangerous. And
- 32:00we haven't mentioned this yet. And when I read this, I was like,
- 32:05oh my gosh, you actually got hit by lightning. I did.
- 32:08I did. And people are like, why are you still chasing lightning if
- 32:12you were struck lightning? Well, first of all, I wasn't struck by
- 32:15lightning because I was chasing it. I wasn't intentionally trying to get in the
- 32:19path of lightning. And it happened in the I still can't tell for sure
- 32:22if it was late nineties or early two thousands, but it was quite a
- 32:25while ago, and I was I was at work and just something happened where
- 32:30I was outside of a vehicle and lightning lit me up, and you know,
- 32:34I just I always joke about it. I tell people it was a
- 32:36revolting experience, because I've shared the story so many times. But the fact
- 32:39of the matter is that it knocked me out and had I have short term
- 32:44memory loss and I have a scar in my heart apparently from that lightning strike.
- 32:50And so the other part about this at this point with me is people
- 32:52go, well, that's just dangerous. Why are you chasing this lightning?
- 32:55And I try to tell people, well, why do you ride a motorcycle
- 32:58or why do you do these why do you do these little things that give
- 33:01you pleasure? And while they say, well, I wear a helmet and
- 33:04I'm safe and I only do this and this, and I said, exactly,
- 33:07it's a mitigated risk. And I get an opportunity for to have this,
- 33:12to have this, you know, to have this audience. And now
- 33:15I can tell that same audience it's a great thing that you love what I
- 33:17love too. But here's the thing, here's how you can do it safely.
- 33:21And oftentimes I will show people and be able to educate people on lightning
- 33:25safety, right you know. And that's a really great feeling to do that
- 33:29too. Now, to be able to bring that whether it's a news article
- 33:31or something, and I can talk to people about how to do this safely
- 33:35instead of just saying, you know, when lightning, when thunder roars go
- 33:37indoors, like National Weather Services, it shows I can show them you can
- 33:42still be safe in a car with a hardtop, right yep, you know,
- 33:45And and get to tell my story on a more personal level, and
- 33:47people will remember that versus just trying to remember a statement that someone says,
- 33:52Sean, when you go out and take photos, what kind of gear do
- 33:55you take with you? It depends on what I'm shooting. It's so dependent
- 33:59on what I'm doing. Right, If I know that I'm going out overnight,
- 34:01I take weather gear because the weather can change so quickly. I don't
- 34:07really shoot storms, so I'm usually anticipating clear skies when i go, because
- 34:10I'm shooting northern lights, I'm shooting, I'm shooting galaxies, I'm shooting stuff
- 34:15with my hot telescope, you know, and stuff like that. So I
- 34:17usually I just have my my gear. My I'm a big on being prepared
- 34:22for any event really, so some weather gear, but first aid kit,
- 34:25you know, the whole spang. But mostly it's just my camera gear,
- 34:30boots, pants, you know, I really know. I guess it's just
- 34:32the normal. But but sometimes the only camera you gots your phone, so
- 34:36sometimes it's just whatever you got. The best camera you got is the one
- 34:38in your hand, so absolutely, you know, I really wish Sean and
- 34:43Andy, I really wish that people would understand that more too, because they
- 34:45think, I think that's the biggest miss uh missnomer or you know, the
- 34:50the misunderstood part about it is, oh, I can't be a good photographer
- 34:53like you until I have X amount of dollars worth in gear and lenses and
- 34:59everything. You know. The you nail it, You nail it on the
- 35:01head just by saying, you know, having a phone with you. These
- 35:04phones capture incredible images. To use your phone, use whatever you have.
- 35:08It doesn't cost a lot to be able to enjoy nature and to get out
- 35:13of town. Even just to be able to go out there with it,
- 35:15maybe a friend or two and enjoy these beautiful scenes and and get out and
- 35:20either see the night sky or see a storm or a sunset. It really
- 35:23does. It's really as good for the soul to you know, it's a
- 35:27de stressor for sure, I've got the canon seven D How many times have
- 35:31I taken that out? Really honestly, if I have my iPhone with me
- 35:36or you know, whatever phone people choose, that's the one I'm taking pictures
- 35:39with. Then well we had Scott Kelby on the show about a year and
- 35:44a half ago, and that's he said, you know, these cameras are
- 35:46getting better. You know, they've gotten The DSLRs are kind of gone now
- 35:50it's mirrorless, and the cameras and our smartphones are getting better. Not to
- 35:54knock what people are able to do with the traditional DSLR are mirrorless. But
- 36:00still it's like you said, if you see something, take a picture,
- 36:05be happy with it. Absolutely. I just want to pick your brain,
- 36:07just for sacond Lorie. So I just dug back into my archives because I
- 36:12got my start back when I was in high school, so this would be
- 36:15in early two thousands, and I started doing long exposures. So I do
- 36:20have some lightning stuff and this is probably the only lightning stuff I've ever shot,
- 36:22and it's on film. So I'm gonna share my screen and I want
- 36:25your your professional opinion on some of these. So this was it in my
- 36:29parents' house in the front yard. So I don't know if you can see
- 36:31that very well or not. I can see it just fine. Wow,
- 36:35this was shot. I yeah, I saw eight hundred film. I don't
- 36:39film can't. I can't tell you so long. I don't know what the
- 36:43exposure was. Well, my aperture was. I don't eve remember what lenses
- 36:45I had on that. I know it was a middle to X seven.
- 36:47That's the camera I still have. I still shoot on that occasionally. I
- 36:50still shoot film a lot. So I got a couple of bad ones in
- 36:54here. Just I grew up in Ludington, Michigan, which is on the
- 36:58coast of Lake Michigan, and we got a lot of really cool storms to
- 37:00come through. So I tried to get lightning a handful of times growing up,
- 37:05but it just didn't. It wasn't my jam, you know, it
- 37:07didn't didn't sparket in me. And it's a black I want, don't care
- 37:10about that. I want. I think I have one more good one.
- 37:14So those are my Those are my contributions to the lightning photos of the world.
- 37:19No, they're not bad though, I mean, dude, and you
- 37:21caught them with a with a with a with film, and I have a
- 37:24film camera and I've been too scared. I just break out with all the
- 37:29other mirror lists that I have and all the cool gear and expensive gear and
- 37:31lenses, and I just it's because the storm's moving right, I want to
- 37:37keep up at the storm, so I don't have time to finally get that
- 37:39film camera out. But one of these days I want to but you better
- 37:43really know what you're doing with the setting, because you don't, you won't
- 37:45know if you got it right exactly. It's a hard part of my experience.
- 37:51I tell people it's like, if you really want to get into the
- 37:53nitty gritty and learn how to shoot, shoot on film, Yeah, fewed
- 37:58with different flavors of you know, different ISOs of film, and you'll really
- 38:01learn real quick how to trust your meters and to trust your gut and trust
- 38:07your gut a lot. And you mentioned like chasing storms and chasing things like
- 38:10that. I chased a lot of solar events or space events. So when
- 38:17we had the neo wised comment visible for a long period of time, I
- 38:21was up in towards the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and I was planning on
- 38:24just going and shooting the comet over the like over the mackinaw Bridge. And
- 38:30when I pulled into the parking lot three in the morning, I got to
- 38:32learn on my phone saying the space station was gonna be overhead in two minutes.
- 38:37So I ran, I was running as fans I could, and I
- 38:38set my chopod up and it just was muscle memory. I need twenty five
- 38:43second disposure. I need my aperture at four point zero, I need I
- 38:46saw sixteen hundred and I just clicked and I just waited right yeah, and
- 38:51I you know, it was a little bumpy at first, but then I
- 38:52was able to adjust. But it's just you got it's fun and it's exhilarating
- 38:57when you do this and you know what you want to get. You can
- 39:00just rely on instinct and muscle memory to get it. And it's such a
- 39:04cool feeling when you get those shots that you just absolutely love. Now,
- 39:07except until the year goes around and then you have to shake the dust off
- 39:09the camera. Right then you have to work at it again. Now,
- 39:14Laurie, one of the cool things about this is again you when you post
- 39:17your art, I call it art. It's it's a photography. Consider it
- 39:21art art. Yeah, you post this online, people get a chance to
- 39:22see this. But now you've kind of gone into podcasting now to talk about
- 39:27this and how how is that able to develop for you? You know,
- 39:31indeed, it's getting to talk to people, getting to you know, deep
- 39:37dive into other people's stories. You know. I think the reason I got
- 39:43so passionate into photography, you know, and I do love the night skies
- 39:46as well and all the other good stuff. Lightning is still my jam,
- 39:50and so are now are tornadoes too, because next month I'll be chasing tornadoes
- 39:53on the planes, hopefully fingers crossed. And I do that every year as
- 39:58well. We call it chase case. By the way, I know we're
- 40:00instead of vacations, you know, storm chasers call them chasecations. But getting
- 40:05back to the to the to the people element, you know, I really
- 40:07think that what I do, I really think that it's not just a picture
- 40:10of lightning. I could tell you the day that I shot. I could
- 40:14tell you how frustrated I was, how how depressed I was, how sad
- 40:16I was, and that it's really become a cathartic experience. And so there's
- 40:21a story to tell with each and every photo I capture or share and getting
- 40:25to talk to other photographers or other people out there, other storm chasers.
- 40:29Why would someone be a storm chaser? Why would someone like Sean just want
- 40:32to get out into the night sky and just get away from it all,
- 40:35Because there's a there's a reason for that, and the reason I started that
- 40:38podcast. I call it not the calm before the storm, but the storm
- 40:42before the calm? Oh wow, And my own life has been you know,
- 40:45riddled with its own I think every one, every one of us,
- 40:47it's almost cliche that that every single one of us has had a story to
- 40:52tell, but you know, a stormy life that that's brought us to where
- 40:54we are today. And so I like to call it the storm before the
- 40:59calm, so we can tell the stories and hear the stories, especially stormchasers
- 41:04and other extreme you know, people that are into extreme sports. But what
- 41:08propels you to do these crazy, insane things? How did you get there?
- 41:13Because there's a story to tell in that. And so I just launched
- 41:17this podcast. I have three out and I have a list of probably twenty
- 41:21people that I'm going to be doing that in due time to get that interview
- 41:24out. But I want to hear more of the story. I want to
- 41:27hear how the storm brought them to the calm because for us, as storm
- 41:30chasers, well you're standing in front of this beautiful storm, that's where the
- 41:35calm is. It's not the storm, but it's a cathartic feeling. It's
- 41:38a wonderful, stress relieving feeling unless the tornado is about to hurt you.
- 41:44But you know, for the most part, for the most part, this
- 41:46is a beautiful thing to do, and you feel so much relief. It's
- 41:50so much stress relief to get away from the cities and to just be out
- 41:53in nature again and to do all that. So I want to hear those
- 41:55stories and hear people share those stories with us. Now, can our listeners
- 42:00find the link on your website at Lorigraceazy dot com where they can excell Yeah,
- 42:06so they should be able to do that. If not, we'll put
- 42:07a link up on our blog as well. With the photos that Sean has
- 42:10taken that we talked about earlier, but pretty amazing stuff. Now I'm thinking
- 42:15we get people, they see your photos, I'm going to come to Arizona.
- 42:20It's great for tourism, you know. They want to come here,
- 42:22they want to take photos, they want to you know, see the storm,
- 42:23see the monsoon season. I remember before I moved here, and I've
- 42:27been here twenty four years, I was told about monsoons. Yeah, whoopee
- 42:31do That first monsoon was a good one too. Is there anywhere in the
- 42:36world that you could think of that you'd say, I really want to go
- 42:39there and I want to take photos there. Because of a weather condition or
- 42:45you know, because there's monsoons in India. There's I mean, they're all
- 42:49over the world. I have a friend, a photographer friend in Kuwait,
- 42:52and she's got pictures of these these monster storms just generating hobs that come out
- 42:58and like obviously like these are you know, almost tropisphere like level haboobs that
- 43:05just scrape over the earth. I'd love to capture something like that. But
- 43:09I also want to go to that place. And I forget the name of
- 43:12it. I always remember it, and I forget it thanks to the shortter
- 43:15memory loss. It's in Venezuela, I think, and it's it's a place
- 43:19caught to Boombo or something, but it's literally there's a lightning bolt that drops
- 43:23over this lake every thirty seconds or something on average throughout the year. Wow.
- 43:28And I didn't think that it was a real place until someone told me
- 43:30and I looked it up, and it's a real thing. I would love
- 43:34to go there, and I would also I would love to chase them onsoon
- 43:37in India and maybe some super cells in Brazil. I've seen super cells and
- 43:42they spin in the opposite direction, right, Yeah, And so I'd love
- 43:45to be able to. I think my brain would just would just short circuit.
- 43:51Yeah, a short circuit if I try to see that or if I
- 43:52saw that in real life. So well, I have a lot of goals.
- 43:55Amazing, amazing photography, great work, and I want our listeners to
- 44:00please check it out Luri, l O r I, grace Azy dot com
- 44:05and again, uh, just phenomenal stuff and and follow the podcast as well.
- 44:09Uh and looking forward to seeing what more great images you're going to be
- 44:14creating. Sean, did you have another question for Lori? No, I
- 44:17just want to be on her podcast now there you go on over. No,
- 44:24I just think, like I'm just Andy said, we're having a photographer
- 44:29on and just with the experience that I had this past week with the auras
- 44:31is just having another photographer jump in and being able to share those experiences.
- 44:37That's somebody. It not that Andy doesn't get it right, but there's just
- 44:40a feeling of success and in touch with the gear and everything when you get
- 44:46that picture that you just absolutely love. So that's great stuff, Lori,
- 44:50you feel it locked in? Yeah, definitely, yeah, locked in And
- 44:52like like you said, you know, you've done some some silly dances and
- 44:55who didn't hower and I feel that in my in my yeah, it's a
- 45:00great feeling. Laurie, thank you so much for coming on tech Talk Radio
- 45:04and again we'll look forward to continuing and then thank you for these great images
- 45:07you've been able to create. Thank you so much, Andy and Sean,
- 45:10we'll be back with more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm
- 45:14Seon de Weird tweet us or excess or whatever it's called the tech talk Radio
- 45:17and that fact to tech talk Radio. Man, what a segment with Laurie.
- 45:22That was incredible, a lot of fun. And again, check out
- 45:24on's log blog dot tech talk radio dot com and on there we'll have the
- 45:29links back to Lori's website as well as your YouTube page. You can check
- 45:32that out too, and of course you want to check out her podcast.
- 45:36But we do appreciate her coming on the show and talking about this some really
- 45:39amazing photos. You know, anytime you have a question, super easy to
- 45:44get it to us. There's a couple of ways you can email us.
- 45:46That's easy, Tech Guys T E. C. H. G U y

- 45:55just by texting it to the number five two zero seven to seven ninety five
- 46:01eighty. And you know, if it's a question that needs an immediate response
- 46:06to you're stuck in the middle of a project, if we can help you
- 46:08with that, we certainly will. But it's one of the segments we do
- 46:13really enjoy. Sean, So listen to Question Time all right, Mark in
- 46:16Green Valley, we talked about streaming last week, and so he wrote us.
- 46:20He wrote us because he wanted to know some more. He says,
- 46:22Hey, guys, loved your show last week about streaming and cable wondering what
- 46:25the best value is for a streaming service Showtime Max and this is this is
- 46:31coming just as I'm gonna be getting rid of getting rid of Max. Yeah,
- 46:36so I don't have I've never had show. It all depends on what
- 46:38you want to watch, right. If you have something at showtime, you
- 46:40want to watch show Time. If you have someone Max, you want to
- 46:43watch watch Max. But as Andy has noted in the past, we've talked
- 46:46about this, they're starting to bundle streaming services. There was an announcement made
- 46:52earlier this week too, uh, and they're calling it stream Saver, and
- 46:57it'll be bundled by Exfinity and I you know, usually what will happen is
- 47:00one of them, whether it be Cox or Exfinity or any of the other
- 47:05services that are out there, will do this and then the others will follow
- 47:08suit. But what they're doing because well, let's face it, Exfinity,
- 47:12Comcast is really part of Peacock if you think about that, is NBC and
- 47:17whatnot. But Brian Roberts, the CEO, said that they're going to bundle.
- 47:22This is interesting Peacock, Netflix and Apple TV, so you won't have
- 47:30to have an Apple TV device to be able to see some of the programs
- 47:34that are available from Apple. But if you get this platform, this is
- 47:38if you get this platform, this is good. You realize how much soccer
- 47:43content is going to be on this stream saver between Peacock and the Premier League
- 47:46and Apple TV and MLS. That's right, Yeah, that's going to be
- 47:51the go to Premiere Premier League MLS sports watching center. There's going to be
- 47:54so much football soccer content, you know, honestly, And it's funny because
- 48:00I will say, I like the Peacocks streaming service and you know, and
- 48:04thinking about cutting the cord. If I wanted to keep it going, I
- 48:07would have to pay for it because I get it free because of the because
- 48:10of the bundle that I have currently, Peacock is pretty good. Hulu I
- 48:15like as well because you can get tons of you know, shows that classic
- 48:20TV shows. You get movies as well. But honestly, I mean,
- 48:23uh, I kind of tell you. I watched Pluto TV this week.
- 48:29I have never watched Pluto TV, and I love Pluto TV. And Pluto
- 48:32TV is free and it's the only place you can really watch older sci fi
- 48:37shows side because they are always streaming Stargate, which is my Stargate. I
- 48:43love Lucy. I watch I Love Lucy. It was like, this is
- 48:45great. You've got all tons of shows. There are a ton of Pluto
- 48:50TV is probably the best free streaming service that exists. We had talked about
- 48:55it, and I thought, I got to check this out again because it's
- 48:58been a while and I I'm gonna toot my own I'm gonna toot my own
- 49:01horn here real quick. But Peacock. I was involved in one of the
- 49:07earliest sports streams on Peacock. Really well, what was hockey? Oh?
- 49:13I had no idea, really, Notre Dame hockey, Notre Dame hockey,
- 49:15and nor Dame Football have done broadcasts on Peacock. Well I know that,
- 49:21uh, and you gotta be careful of this. Uh. Discovery, Disney
- 49:24and Warner Brothers are bringing Disney Hulu and Max as well as Discovery as a
- 49:30streaming bundle. And what's crazy about it is I have I pay for Cinemax
- 49:35or not Cinemax, Hbo Max, I pay for that, but I also
- 49:39have Discovery that I pay for, so but apparently they have the same program.
- 49:44So I've been throwing away five dollars a month and I've been doing Caitlin
- 49:47and I have been we just have been rebudgeting, right, because we have
- 49:51another kid that's going to daycare soon. So I learned that with our Verizon
- 49:55cell phone plan, we get the Disney Hulu being Plus bundle included in our
- 50:01Horizon plan. And you've been paying for it, and I've been paying nineteen
- 50:05bucks a month for it out of pocket when it I've been getting it for
- 50:08free for the last year, right, right. So I just rolled over
- 50:13all that, and there was some confusion because I used the same email address
- 50:16for both, right, so it actually like unregistered dress from Hulu and I
- 50:20had to go through some steps to get Hulu to actually let me have the
- 50:23because it's like, you don't have an active subscription to Hulu because I had
- 50:27to deactivate the Hula subscription to enable the Infinity subscription and they didn't like that
- 50:32very much, so I had to go through customer support and deal with that,
- 50:36and now we're back on the air with Hulu. Well, I would
- 50:37recommend take a look at Pluto TV. Take a look to see if you
- 50:42know, if you're thinking I want more options other than you know, network
- 50:45television, or if you're looking at that, take a look at that.
- 50:49I would also say Discovery is pretty good. If you like live action reality
- 50:52based shows, you like ID channel, that's part of that Discovery bundle.
- 50:58So something to think about there. But again, the more bundles are gonna
- 51:00be coming as Exfinity's doing this, there'll be other opportunities as well that you
- 51:05could, like you said, you could bundle and save somebody on that way.
- 51:08It's just coming full circle words. It's just gonna be back to like
- 51:10cable was exactly. They will start a streaming service and begin another cable service
- 51:17to help people cut the cable and now you're a streaming service all right,
- 51:21we're taking another quick break. We'll be back with more of tech Talk Radio.
- 51:23Love to tell you about brand new products. That's what we're gonna do
- 51:25when we come back. We're gonna tell you about a pair of headphones you
- 51:29might want to be thinking about. You know, headphones have come a long
- 51:31way over the years. Number one comfort, sound, safety, and overall
- 51:37what they can do. Well. There's a pair of headphones that are coming
- 51:40out from a company that we really love. This company, they've been around
- 51:45a long time. They these headphones can work with just about anything and they
- 51:51if it's a track record for their previous line of headphones, they're gonna sound
- 51:55great. So we'll tell you more about that. Standing by, I'm Andy
- 51:59Taylor, I'm Seanda Weird. Find us on Facebook at tech Talkers. We'll
- 52:02be right back and now fact to tech talk Radio. We like to talk
- 52:07about new products when we hear about them, and one of the products come
- 52:12from a company that we really like. We've been doing stuff with them forever,
- 52:15Steal Series and they have I have several of their products now. They
- 52:20make what headphones, keyboards, I mean, they at the gamut when it
- 52:23comes to your headsets, microphone, speakers, keyboards, mice, mouse pass
- 52:27controllers, accessories, limited edition, the hole where they have all sorts of
- 52:31stuff. Well, they've got a new headset that provides what they're saying is
- 52:35over one hundred game specific audio presets. Now, I don't know how could
- 52:38you have one hundred different presets audio. It's probably they probably went into each
- 52:45game and custom tailored a sound profile for that game. So something like Cyberpunk,
- 52:50right, Skyrim, Minecraft, Now could that be like if you're in
- 52:53a in a dark dungeon, that it could work, you know, like
- 52:57with that echo and something like that. I'm sure they've got some sort of
- 53:01profile built for you know, it's gonna sound very cavernous. If you're in
- 53:05a cage, it's gonna sound you know, if you're in a big you
- 53:07know, like playing Assassin's Creed, you go into a big cathedral, it's
- 53:10gonna sound like a cathedral. You know, things like that. Well,
- 53:13for Still series products, a lot of people always think about them as being
- 53:15a gamer type of product. But what they're doing is they're really showing that
- 53:19their products can be used for both gaming and for productivity. Not to say
- 53:23you can't be productive productive while playing a game. Their new one is called
- 53:27the art is it Arctists Nova five yep? All right, and it's available
- 53:32with allowing you to switch between two point four gigahertz and Bluetooth to take calls.
- 53:39It works with Xbox PlayStation, switch PC made a quest that's interesting,
- 53:45and phones are tablets that support USB dongle which comes with it. So again,
- 53:52you're crazy. Yeah, you're gonna be able to use this just about
- 53:53anywhere, whether it be work or even again play. I know that one
- 54:00of the guys at the station has the Steel series headphones that he uses on
- 54:05the air for his on air headphone and it works. Yeah, it's perfect.
- 54:07Yeah. I have the Arctus seven pros from probably twenty fifteen that I'm
- 54:13due for a new set. So looking at these, I mean you look
- 54:15at some of these specs. Fifty hours of battery life running two point four
- 54:21gig or sixty hours in bluetooth and with the USBC fast Charge, which USPC
- 54:25charging is ridiculous. He can charge so fast with you ye charge it for
- 54:30fifteen minutes, gives you six hours of Wow. Wow, that's pretty good.
- 54:35So, I mean there's a lot of other check them out on Steel
- 54:37series' website, but it's compatible with previmach any system you're going to come across,
- 54:40PC, Mac, PS four, PS five, Switch Mobile, Oculus
- 54:44Quest all with the dongle, or just connected via Bluetooth or two point four
- 54:47gig Again. That's the Arc Nova five. That wraps up this week's techtok
- 54:52Radio. Hope you enjoyed our discussion with Lori Grace if we get to check
- 54:55out our website Lorigraceazy dot com. I know, uh, Sean, you
- 54:59had a lot of fun with that too. Oh man, that was incredible,
- 55:01you know, getting another photographer on here and just being able to talk
- 55:07shop with her and get her experience with the stuff that she's been doing.
- 55:09And for her to see the aurora in Arizona and shoot those and just get
- 55:15those incredible photos. That's gonna be something she's gonna remember for the rest of
- 55:20your life. Absolutely. Well, that's it. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm
- 55:23Seanda Weird. Find us on the world wide Web. You can subscribe to
