Transcript
- 0:00In early 2015, 17 year old Tana Mojo.
- 0:03Posted her first YouTube video. Raised in Las Vegas as an only
- 0:07child, Tana's unique upbringing made for great story time
- 0:10content, a genre. That was just.
- 0:12Starting to take off on the platform.
- 0:14Tana's first few. Videos racked up hundreds of
- 0:17thousands of views, and she quickly made a name for herself
- 0:20as one of the most popular story time creators on.
- 0:23YouTube her stories. Ranging from having a
- 0:26hairdresser from hell to getting banged with a toothbrush were
- 0:30raunchy and larger than life, solidifying Tana's reputation as
- 0:34a. Crazy party girl with.
- 0:35Few boundaries. But as.
- 0:37Tana's channel grew and she became increasingly more famous.
- 0:41This expectation of her. As a wild child.
- 0:44Would underline almost every decision that Tana made for
- 0:48years to come. No matter how many times she
- 0:50tried to clean up her reputation, Tana consistently
- 0:53struggled to gain audience and industry.
- 0:55Trust after having. Broken it so many times.
- 0:59This is part one of the story of Tana Mojo, YouTube's most
- 1:03notorious. Party girl who?
- 1:05After. Years of bad decisions.

- 2:11All right, I just. Have one cute little review.
- 2:13To read for you. Guys and it's.
- 2:15Actually from Geordie, So Geordie on Spotify, she wrote
- 2:20such a great episode about the Skippity.
- 2:23Toilet One. Obsessed with you both.
- 2:24And this conversation critical thinking I can't find.
- 2:27Anywhere else so sweet. Thank you, Jordie.
- 2:30Honestly, that episode with Aiden has been taking off in
- 2:33terms of not necessarily like traction, but just.
- 2:35People are obsessed with it like the.
- 2:37People that are listening are obsessed with it and I'm
- 2:39obsessed with it because I'm obsessed with him and his brain.
- 2:41So definitely go listen. Even if you think Skippity,
- 2:44toilet, Gen. alpha, all of that is not up your.
- 2:47Alley. It is so interesting, he's so
- 2:49smart and he has so much insight.
- 2:50So definitely go listen. When many of us were introduced
- 3:00to Tana Mojo. She was just a. 17 year old girl
- 3:03recording story times sitting on her bedroom in Las Vegas.
- 3:07These. Stories, many of which seems to
- 3:09be a bit insane for a teenage girl to have experienced, soon
- 3:12came to define Tana and her brand as a creator was very not
- 3:16safe for brands and unabashedly herself.
- 3:19Tana rose to virality. In 2015, a time.
- 3:22Before Adpocalypse crippled. YouTube, The beauty community
- 3:26was rattled by drama and audiences quite understood the
- 3:29nature of influencer marketing. The consumption of long form
- 3:32content was at an all time high with the recommended page filled
- 3:36with neon thumbnails and click bait.
- 3:38It was in this context. That the YouTube story.
- 3:40Time emerged a genre of content, of which Tana became the
- 3:44blueprint in a 2022 video titled.
- 3:47Let's discuss the story. Time Era Internet Analysis
- 3:50Commentary creator Tiffany Ferg breaks down this time in YouTube
- 3:54history. Focusing on the rise and fall of
- 3:56story times, Tiffany summarizes the good, bad, and ugly of this
- 4:00genre. But first.
- 4:02She recaps the characteristics. Of the most popular storytellers
- 4:06and outlines. Why these creators were so
- 4:08successful? While some storytellers were
- 4:10more on the chill end, somebody who was comforting and relaxing
- 4:13to listen to, the top story time creators were typically very
- 4:17charismatic, funny, a bit sarcastic.
- 4:20There was a distinct physical and vocal performance during
- 4:23this era. The story time era.
- 4:25Ushered in a cultural reset. Staged content like skits and
- 4:29comedy, which largely dominated. Early YouTube was out.
- 4:33And more real content. About real people.
- 4:35Was in. As a result story.
- 4:37Time creators were unabashed, unfiltered and brutally honest,
- 4:41something that Tana embodied. As early as her first video.
- 4:45The oldest video on her channel. Titled Hairdresser from Hell was
- 4:49released. In 2015 and now has been viewed
- 4:51more than 3.9 million times. In the video, she.
- 4:55Explained a recent experience. At a hairdresser that was just
- 4:58all around. Dodgy Tana's delivery was
- 5:01engaging, and she was. Clearly.
- 5:02Extremely charismatic and funny, one of the most iconic quotes
- 5:06from Tana's career emerged from this video.
- 5:09A bleach and tone. Like a bleach and tone.
- 5:12While this. Was an iconic video.
- 5:14Tana skyrocketed to virality. For her stalker.
- 5:17Series On July 22nd, 2015, Tana uploaded the first installment
- 5:22titled My Creepy Stalker Story, which has since garnered over
- 5:264.5 million. Views she has posted.
- 5:28Updates on the situation over the years and in her most recent
- 5:31video, she. Exposed her stalker's.
- 5:33Identity to her millions of. Subscribers, however, as Tana
- 5:37shared her stalker story. Times the more skeptical fans
- 5:40became, with many viewers claiming that she embellished.
- 5:43The truth for. Clout.
- 5:45Nevertheless, as she started sharing more and more stories
- 5:47from her. Life older.
- 5:49Gen. Z's became obsessed with Tana
- 5:51and the type of content that she was producing with this
- 5:54demographic in middle school and high school, she became a big.
- 5:57Sister. Figure for many viewers.
- 5:59Compared to some other popular female creators like Alicia
- 6:03Marie Lord DIY My Life Is Ava, who were appealing to younger
- 6:07viewers via sanitized Disney FIDE PG13 kinds of videos,
- 6:13Hannah seemed older, edgy. She captivated them with a very
- 6:17different approach. Aside.
- 6:18From her stalker stories. Some of her most popular story
- 6:21time videos include titles like I Got Banged With A.
- 6:24Toothbrush where she talks about a wild.
- 6:26Rumor that spread about her and I fought a grown ass couple in
- 6:29the airport. Which is as dramatic as the
- 6:32title suggests. With stories like these, it's.
- 6:35Clear. She completely personified the
- 6:37candor that came to be the story Time era on YouTube.
- 6:40By 20 16, just one year after starting YouTube, Tana reached
- 6:442,000,000 subscribers. At this point, she was.
- 6:48A full. Fledged Internet celebrity,
- 6:50releasing merch and even going on her first meet and greet tour
- 6:53called Hello Tana Mojo. It was during this time that she
- 6:56also started collaborating. With other big creators.
- 6:59Like Jonah Green, Shannon Rose, whom she infamously filmed a
- 7:02dead body of a man who had just overdosed on the street, Ricky
- 7:06Dillon and Cody Ko. More on him in Part 2.
- 7:09But as Tana. * Rose to an astronomical rate.
- 7:12The success. Didn't come without controversy.
- 7:15Given that Tana's whole brand is essentially centered around
- 7:18being problematic, this will not be an exhaustive list.
- 7:22However, there were. A couple notable scandals that
- 7:24came to shape Tana's early career.
- 7:27First and foremost was when Tana found herself in drama with
- 7:30Freely, the banana girl, whose real name is Leanne Ratcliffe.
- 7:33Now, if you know anything about Freely, then you know.
- 7:36That she probably caused more disordered.
- 7:38Eating in young women through the 20 tens than all the tabloid
- 7:42magazines combined. I want to preface this by saying
- 7:45don't. Take her advice seriously, so
- 7:48freely. Posted a critical response to
- 7:50Tana's Q&A about staying slim. Freely took issue.
- 7:53With Tana's concept of quote UN quote, bored eating.
- 7:56And her advice for? Distracting oneself from
- 7:58mindless hunger. Quote this video.
- 8:00Should really be called How to get fat Freely said.
- 8:03Advising Tana to. Carve the fuck?
- 8:05Up and stop ignoring her hunger. Cues freely's partner.
- 8:08Jury and Ryder chimed in, predicting quote Tana is going
- 8:11to blow out by the time she's. Your age freely.
- 8:14She'll be 80 kilos. She looks washed out.
- 8:17As unsurprisingly, Tana and her followers were not pleased, Tana
- 8:22responded with a strongly worded video starting with I.
- 8:25Am making a video to ask freely why she is a bitch.
- 8:29This ignited a back and forth exchange with videos and
- 8:32responses. To put it into context, Tana was
- 8:3517 years old at the time. Fighting with a woman?
- 8:39Well. Into her 30s after she was
- 8:41targeted by her, but looking back, that's.
- 8:44Not how most people saw it. More on that later.
- 8:47A year. Later, Tana found herself
- 8:49embroiled in a back and. Forth with I dubs.
- 8:52Whose real name is Ian Washburn. Their feud started in December
- 8:552016 when Tana. Tweeted at I Dubs.
- 8:58Calling him out for using negative language online to his
- 9:01then 3,000,000 subscribers. Many fans felt this was ironic
- 9:05as Tana had her own history of using racial slurs throughout
- 9:092012 to 2014. Tana had.
- 9:11Allegedly used racial. Slurs and multiple tweets and
- 9:14Snapchats. In 2015, she apologized for her
- 9:17actions and claimed she thought the N word meant friend or homie
- 9:21Nevertheless. Idubs retaliated 6 weeks.
- 9:24After Tana called him out during the 18 year olds meet and greet
- 9:27in San Francisco, Idubs turned up wearing Tana's merch, got in
- 9:30position for a photo with her and rather than saying cheese
- 9:34for the. Photo, he blurted out.
- 9:36Say the N word and he did not censor his language.
- 9:41The interaction was captured by his now wife, Anisa Joma.
- 9:44Days after the interaction, Tana posted.
- 9:47A video. Titled The N Word, where she
- 9:48reflected on the situation Tana and Idubs went on to.
- 9:51Have a very public feud where idubs discussed.
- 9:54Tana's racist history on content cop, which was a series in which
- 9:58he. Would call out fellow.
- 9:59Controversy. While the two creators.
- 10:01Had not addressed the situation in years.
- 10:04Idubs took to YouTube. On May 18th, 2023 to apologize
- 10:08to Tana. Tana, I'm sorry, I shouldn't
- 10:11have never made that video. I harassed Hannah in person and
- 10:16then harassed her online. And that's deplorable behavior.
- 10:21It's so stupid. While.
- 10:22I dubs issued Tana. An apology the creator has also
- 10:26had to issue her. Own.
- 10:28Fair share of apologies. We won't have time to go through
- 10:31all of them, but there was one early scandal in her.
- 10:34Career that has. Come up a couple of times over
- 10:37the years and it all revolved around her collab channel Trash.
- 10:42For those unfamiliar with Trash, Tana launched the channel in
- 10:452016 with the aim of helping smaller Youtubers grow their
- 10:48followings. She.
- 10:50Invited her followers to. Send in audition style videos
- 10:53and the response was overwhelming.
- 10:55Tana and her team received over 10,000 submissions from people
- 10:58eager to join the channel. Alongside Tana, there were six
- 11:02original members. Oh my God.
- 11:03Jackie, Chip. Wells, Kira, Bridget, Aaron
- 11:06Fuller, Natalia Taylor and Colin Berry.
- 11:09The plan was. That each.
- 11:10Day of the week 1 member would. Post a video.
- 11:12Some weeks there were themes and others the creators.
- 11:15Were free to choose. While no one can deny that
- 11:17Tana's intentions seemed pure. Trash.
- 11:20Soon fell into chaos. Viewers were disappointed
- 11:23because Tana frequently missed her upload days and felt that
- 11:26the other creators were trying to copy her style of self
- 11:29deprecating humor. While Tana ultimately ended up
- 11:31leaving the channel because of scheduling conflicts, Trash did
- 11:35bring on another member attempting to alleviate the
- 11:37pressure on other members. That.
- 11:39Person was Anna Campbell Anna is one of the most controversial
- 11:43figures of 2010's YouTube younger women, including Natalia
- 11:47from trash have. Alleged that they were.
- 11:49Groomed and assaulted by her. While we don't have time to dive
- 11:52into this today, although do let me know if you want to deep dive
- 11:55on this. The allegations against Anna
- 11:57have significantly tarnished the legacy of Trash.
- 12:00Another member of the channel, Colin Berry, has since come
- 12:03forth to call out Tana during that period.
- 12:05On June 15th, 2020, Colin uploaded a video titled Finally
- 12:10Revealing the Truth about Tana Mojo.
- 12:12The 45 minute video details Colin's experience working with
- 12:15Tana years ago when she chose him to be part of her collab
- 12:18channel Trash. He discussed a number of
- 12:20different experiences, from her response to idubs to various
- 12:24microaggressions she committed off the.
- 12:26Back of the idubs. Situation Colin initially stood
- 12:29in solidarity with Tana, a decision he says subjected him
- 12:32to an outpour of hate and negativity.
- 12:35As the situation. Evolved and Tana allegedly
- 12:37refused to accept responsibility for her words.
- 12:40Colin says he voiced his concerns to Tana in his video.
- 12:44Colin said Tana was not receptive to his concerns.
- 12:47Which surprised him as. They were friends.
- 12:49He alleged. That Tana was defensive, played
- 12:51the victim and took his feedback as an attack.
- 12:54Throughout the video. Colin detailed many other
- 12:57alleged instances where he felt Tana's actions were based in
- 13:00racism, namely gaslighting Colin, invalidating his
- 13:03feelings, framing him as an angry black person and.
- 13:06Even reportedly spreading. Rumors to others in the industry
- 13:09that Colin had been arrested. After Colin detailed his
- 13:12experiences, multiple Black creators came forward with
- 13:15stories of Tana's racist microaggressions, including her
- 13:18ex friend Nessa. In September 2020, Tana posted a
- 13:22video titled A Long Overdue. Apology where she apologized to.
- 13:26Fans and creators. For her racist past.
- 13:29Tana, who appeared to be reading off a teleprompter.
- 13:32Started by. Addressing her white privilege.
- 13:34Explaining I have no right to ask or expect forgiveness from
- 13:37anyone that I have hurt with my actions.
- 13:39She later. Admitted that had a person of
- 13:40color acted the. Way that she has over the years.
- 13:43They would no longer have a career.
- 13:45She also rebuked her. Former apology videos saying
- 13:48that she. Is quote disgusted?
- 13:50By them and should have never released them to such a large
- 13:52platform. Tana admitted that she spent
- 13:55years deflecting and making. Excuses for her behavior.
- 13:57Which is reflected in those videos.
- 13:59She called herself. Out for performative activism
- 14:02and confessed that she was more concerned with getting fans to
- 14:05like her again rather than actually changing as a person.
- 14:08Tana. Also apologized to Colin.
- 14:10And simply Nessa directly. She said despite.
- 14:13Colin and Nessa's. Efforts to show her the errors
- 14:15of her ways. She didn't listen because she
- 14:17was convinced that she was a good person and had nothing to
- 14:20learn. That's not the end of Tana's
- 14:22controversies. Not even close.
- 14:25But. Before we continue, it's worth
- 14:26looking back at one of her most celebrated moments, Tana's music
- 14:31career. In 2017, Tana started dating
- 14:34actress Bella Thorne. Bella had previously.
- 14:36Been involved with musician Black.
- 14:38Bear, who reacted. To the news of Bella's new.
- 14:40Relationship by. Tweeting a screenshot of a news
- 14:42post that was covering Bella and Tana's new relationship,
- 14:45alongside another screenshot that showed that he'd flagged
- 14:48this news as a relevant this tweet.
- 14:51Was the catalyst for. Tana to launch her music career
- 14:53two months later with a debut single about women empowerment
- 14:57called Hefner. On Hefner, Tana rapped using
- 15:00that. Lightly here about.
- 15:01Women being in the power position in relationships.
- 15:04Bella. Featured in the music.
- 15:05Video and even though the song was so.
- 15:07Bad. It was also weirdly good.
- 15:10Hefner brought. Fans back around to.
- 15:11Tana after the idubs. And trash controversies.
- 15:14It felt self aware like. Tana was almost trolling herself
- 15:18and showing fans how. Seriously, she took her career
- 15:21as a YouTube. Tana and Bella were one of the
- 15:24most famous and also unexpected couples on social media.
- 15:28The pair were. Together until 2019.
- 15:30Before. Descending into an on again off
- 15:32again online. Feud that said their breakup was
- 15:35well. Documented.
- 15:36With the two publicly. Beefing and throwing shade at
- 15:39one another. Bella even released a song about
- 15:41Tana in December 2020 titled SFB, an acronym for Stupid
- 15:46Fucking Bitch. You can imagine that wasn't a
- 15:50love song. Tana went on to post a reaction
- 15:52video to Bella's song, only adding fuel to the fire.
- 15:55Nevertheless, the two. Seem to have.
- 15:57Buried the hatchet. With both women speaking fondly
- 15:59of each other in years since while.
- 16:01Hefner was. Divisive No scandal compares to
- 16:05Tana Con. I'm sure all of you listening to
- 16:07this podcast are familiar with the chaos that was Tana Con, but
- 16:11for those who aren't, here is a. Recap, it all started.
- 16:14When Tana sat down for a one hour and 18 minute video titled
- 16:17Why I Won't be Attending Vidcon 2018?
- 16:20In the video, she explained her frustrations with the convention
- 16:24after attending as a creator. Tana was particularly upset.
- 16:27About not being designated as a. Featured Creator A status.
- 16:31That comes with. Perks like security detail.
- 16:33Participation in official events and staying at the designated
- 16:36Hotel Tana didn't initially. Expect to be a featured creator,
- 16:40but as her. Online presence grew, the Vidcon
- 16:42team indicated. That she had a.
- 16:44Solid chance, however, this never came through and she
- 16:47claimed the team LED her on just to promote the event, attending
- 16:50as a regular. Creator she was.
- 16:52Kicked out of the convention in 2017 and in 2016 she caused.
- 16:56Security issues after being. Mobbed by fans after sharing her
- 17:00negative experiences with Vidcon, Tana set out to create
- 17:02her own two day convention to celebrate content creators and
- 17:06their fans in 2018. To make matters even more.
- 17:09Chaotic. It was hosted.
- 17:10Down the road from Vidcon, the event was poorly organized and
- 17:14oversold, leading to overcrowding and logistical
- 17:17problems. Angry attendees recorded their
- 17:19experience, experiences waiting to enter the convention and
- 17:22during long queues without access to necessities.
- 17:24Like food? Water or shelter.
- 17:26Many suffered from severe sunburns, with some attendees
- 17:29even fainting while in line. Due to safety concerns and
- 17:32struggles with crowd management, the convention was shut down on
- 17:35its first day. Soon the event was.
- 17:37Covered across the world. By different media outlets, but
- 17:41no piece of media was more prolific than the three.
- 17:44Part docu. Series by Shane Dawson The Truth
- 17:47about Tanacon Shane felt a sense of responsibility.
- 17:50As a. Special guest at the convention
- 17:52seeking to get to the bottom of the situation and figure out how
- 17:55the event. Failed so spectacularly.
- 17:57After all, at the time, there were rumors that Tanicon was all
- 18:01about manufacturing a viral moment in the series.
- 18:04Shane spoke to Different. People involved and dove into
- 18:06the background of Good Times Company, the organizers of the
- 18:10event, and its CEO, Michael Weiss, as Catherine Lindsay
- 18:14reported for Refinery 29 at the time, quote.
- 18:17The series is a lot of he said, she said.
- 18:19Mojo said as she was told. The venue would fit 5000 people.
- 18:22She claims she was told the majority of the tickets.
- 18:24Sold were free tickets, so VIPs. Shouldn't have to wait in line?
- 18:28She said she specifically asked for adequate security.
- 18:31Around 91 guards space, food and water.
- 18:34Good times, claims Mojo. Was aware that the.
- 18:36Attendees were mostly VIPs and that she was barely involved in
- 18:39the planning. At the time, Shane was
- 18:42considered the Oprah Winfrey. Of YouTube.
- 18:44Beloved by the masses for telling meaningful stories and
- 18:47giving second chances to various creators, although we all know
- 18:51how that panned out. With this context, many Internet
- 18:55users praised the documentary, but looking back, people have
- 18:58raised questions about Shane and Tana's friendship and with this,
- 19:02the ethics. Of the docu series as a whole.
- 19:05As conversation started circulating about the way Shane
- 19:08spoke to minors during his massive cancellation in 2020,
- 19:11people began to view his friendship with Tana in a
- 19:14different light. As we have established, Tana
- 19:17rose to viral. Fame when she was a minor and
- 19:19started before trending much older creators, with Shane as an
- 19:22example of someone who was almost 10 years her senior.
- 19:26Tana was also vocal about being a long time Shane Dawson fan,
- 19:29adding to the questionable power dynamic during their friendship.
- 19:33They discussed wildly inappropriate topics.
- 19:35In fact, the most popular video on Tana's channel to this.
- 19:39Day is titled I. Peed on Shane Dawson?
- 19:42You wish. This was click bait which was
- 19:44released. Just after she turned 18 at the
- 19:48time, people. Didn't really.
- 19:50React very strongly, but of. Course it has aged very poorly.
- 19:54Given this context, Shane's documentary about Tana Con.
- 19:58Left a bad taste? In some people's mouths.
- 20:00While Shane's docu. Series might have been Tana's
- 20:03first foray into this kind of content.
- 20:05It definitely wasn't her last. In 2019, Tana was tapped to star
- 20:10in an MTV. Reality show called.
- 20:12MTV no filter Tana turns 21 The first season documented Tana in
- 20:17the lead up to her 21st birthday.
- 20:18Another example of how Tana was exploited.
- 20:21As this wild child party girl. Before she was even legal to
- 20:24drink, MTV No Filter ran two seasons, throughout which Tana
- 20:27spent a large portion of the show sleeping, recovering from
- 20:31partying, and struggling to meet her professional commitments.
- 20:34At the time, Tana faced criticism for treating her
- 20:37friends poorly and downplaying an asthma diagnosis quote.
- 20:40MTV wanted the drama and I didn't think the episode would
- 20:43end up the way it did. She later said.
- 20:45Of the show, there's probably. People who are still.
- 20:47Skeptical when it comes to that, but I know my the truth.
- 20:50Tana went on to say that she would take so much Xanax after
- 20:54filming that the effects would last into the next day.
- 20:57Quote there. Was just a time in my life where
- 20:59I was abusing everything I could.
- 21:01Throughout the series, fans also got a.
- 21:03Glimpse into the deterioration of tana's relationship with her
- 21:07longtime manager Jordan Verona along with amari Stewart, Ashley
- 21:11schwann and many of tana's other friends.
- 21:14Jordan was always a big part of the Tana Mojo cinematic
- 21:17universe. He was well known to fans and
- 21:19even lived and ran his business out of Tana's pool house.
- 21:22For a few years. MTV no filter showed a
- 21:25complicated. Side to their.
- 21:26Professional and personal relationship.
- 21:28The two fought multiple times on the show and at one point Tana
- 21:31even accused Jordan of calling her a piece of shit and a liar.
- 21:35In November 2020, Tana and Jordan.
- 21:37Officially parted ways. While it's never been confirmed
- 21:40why Tana has hinted at Jordan owing her money, there's also
- 21:44speculation that Jordan started seeing Tana's childhood friend
- 21:47and roommate at the time, Isabella Fusco, Which
- 21:50contributed to the deterioration of Tana and Jordan's working
- 21:53relationship. While season one of MTV Nofilter
- 21:56documented her coming of age in the LA party scene, season 2 of
- 22:00MTV Nofilter would chronicle another milestone and Tana's
- 22:04story, her turbulent relationship with Mega YouTube.
- 22:08Jake Paul. In April 2019, Tana started
- 22:11hooking up with Jake Paul, leader of the Team 10 House.
- 22:14They kept. Their relations a secret.
- 22:16At first, but fans. Noticed signs that the two were
- 22:18getting closer on social media. Media to add fuel.
- 22:21To the Internet rumors they took their relationship.
- 22:23Or whatever it was. Public in a video on Jake's
- 22:26channel published in April 2019. The video was titled Meet the
- 22:30Girl I've been hiding from you. It seemed that Tana and Jake.
- 22:33Decided to ride the clout wave. And they lent into this
- 22:36relationship thing pretty hard. After two months of dating, the
- 22:39couple got, quote UN quote, engaged while celebrating Tana's
- 22:42birthday in Las Vegas. Jake.
- 22:44Proposed at the club with a cake that said.
- 22:46Will you marry me? And then another two months
- 22:48after that, they got, quote UN quote, married.
- 22:51Marking one of the biggest moments in YouTube history.
- 22:55Tana and Jake exchanged vows in front of family, friends and
- 22:59other influencers in July 2019 at Graffiti Mansion in Las
- 23:02Vegas. The reception was held at Sugar
- 23:05Factory at the. Fashion Show Mall.
- 23:07Where a red carpet with a. Line of invited press greeted
- 23:10influencers at the entrance. The event reportedly cost half.
- 23:13$1,000,000 and the couple didn't even get legally married.
- 23:17Shocker. The most controversial part,
- 23:19however? However, was that Jake?
- 23:20Charged fans. $50.00 to live. Stream their wedding from home
- 23:25The live stream was so glitchy that refunds ended up being
- 23:28issued to fans who made complaints.
- 23:30While Tana and Jake didn't officially get married and
- 23:32eventually announced their split at the end of 2019, there's no
- 23:36denying that Tana was in deep with Jake.
- 23:38In a 40 minute video posted on December 30th, 2019, Tana opened
- 23:43up about feeling lost since marrying.
- 23:44Jake, she revealed that she had agreed to be.
- 23:47In an open relationship, hoping that it would make her see like
- 23:50a quote UN quote cool wife. She didn't realize that meant
- 23:53Jake would be sleeping with a New Girl every night.
- 23:56Throughout the video. She maintained that she.
- 23:58Still loves Jake A. Sentiment that she defended in
- 24:01her Instagram post announcing their breakup.
- 24:03Quote I will always. Love Jake and everything we did.
- 24:05I'm grateful to know throughout this I've made a best friend for
- 24:08life and found someone to do life with when no one else
- 24:11understood me, she wrote in her caption in the video.
- 24:14Tana also. Shared her desire to.
- 24:16Reconcile with her traumatic childhood in 2020 and deal with
- 24:19her addiction. She said she doesn't feel like
- 24:21she's. Been completely honest with her
- 24:23audience throughout the years on YouTube.
- 24:25Because she's kept her. Demons hidden and that she'll be
- 24:27changing that in the new year. Tana also changed her name from
- 24:30Tana Paul back to Tana Mojo across social media.
- 24:34Five months later, Jake admitted during an interview with
- 24:36Entertainment Tonight that he entered into the relationship
- 24:39with Tana for publicity. The 20 tens were tumultuous time
- 24:43for Tana's career. From starting YouTube as a
- 24:45teenager, sharing inappropriate story times to several huge
- 24:48scandals, a reality show, addiction issues and APR stunt
- 24:52wedding, Tana had made her mark on the industry in just. 5 short
- 24:56years. And after breaking her fanbase's
- 24:58trust time and time again, her reputation going into the next
- 25:02decade was not great. Tana entered the Twenty 20s
- 25:05branded as. A party girl who.
- 25:07Started drama for clout and didn't care.
- 25:09About what she did or who she hurt.
- 25:10As long as she was making money and having fun.
- 25:13But 20/20 was about to change. All of our lives.
- 25:16And also Tana's. Because this was the year.
- 25:19Where Tana, probably unbeknownst to her, started planting the
- 25:23seeds for redemption. Though it would take several
- 25:26more years for audiences to come back around to trusting Tana
- 25:29again, one Story Time video posted in December 2020 would
- 25:33lay the groundwork for a major element of Tana's renaissance.
- 25:37And that video? Was about her ex.
