- 0:00Speaker 1: How's it going a little bit.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Of busy week here, But that's what happens on.
- 0:03Speaker 3: The speed sometimes that is that is what the Rams
- 0:07Speaker 3: have been is busy. First of all, Miles Garrett and
- 0:10Speaker 3: idea like this obviously doesn't come out of nowhere and
- 0:13Speaker 3: happened overnight. From what you've gathered, How long have the
- 0:17Speaker 3: Rams been interested? What did it take to finally get
- 0:20Speaker 3: it done? How reluctant or ready were they to give
- 0:24Speaker 3: Jared Verse to the Browns to make this happen.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Yeah, so this is an idea that the Rams you know,
- 0:31Speaker 2: try to pounce on before the draft. Initially, they were
- 0:35Speaker 2: really after big time upgrades, especially on defense. They did
- 0:39Speaker 2: one with Trent McDuffie with the Chiefs and their other
- 0:42Speaker 2: you know, fascination became Miles Garrett just because he was
- 0:46Speaker 2: a player that Sean McVay always thought was the absolute
- 0:49Speaker 2: hardest the game plan for in the NFL at that time.
- 0:52Speaker 2: That you know, the Rams wanted to make it all
- 0:54Speaker 2: about draft compensation and the Browns were not into that.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So that the draft happens, and you know, they keep
- 1:02Speaker 2: trying different offers over the coming month or so, and
- 1:05Speaker 2: finally the Browns asked for Jared Verse, And initially the
- 1:08Speaker 2: Rams answer was no, they believe a lot in Jared Verse.
- 1:11Speaker 2: They're actually really expecting a big leap from him this
- 1:14Speaker 2: year from pro bowler into an elite class. But as
- 1:17Speaker 2: time went on, I think they just looked at it
- 1:19Speaker 2: and realized the Miles Garrett's already everything that they could
- 1:22Speaker 2: ever dream of Jared Verse becoming. And based on the contract,
- 1:27Speaker 2: the way that it would split out is that they
- 1:29Speaker 2: would get Miles Garrett for eight million this year, seventeen
- 1:32Speaker 2: million next year, and then twenty one million after that.
- 1:35Speaker 2: So a true bargain on arguably the best defensive player
- 1:38Speaker 2: in the NFL. And so as much as they love
- 1:41Speaker 2: the long term and the potential of Jared Verse, you know,
- 1:44Speaker 2: their desire to go win the Super Bowl this year
- 1:46Speaker 2: with Matthew Stafford at age thirty eight kind of reigned supreme.
- 1:51Speaker 2: And it ends up kind of explaining a little bit
- 1:53Speaker 2: of why they decided to take Ty Simpson as a
- 1:56Speaker 2: backup quarterback quarterbacks the future in the first round, because
- 1:59Speaker 2: that to them is freed up the twenty twenty seven
- 2:02Speaker 2: and twenty twenty eight draft picks to not have to
- 2:05Speaker 2: say for a quarterback. So they could push the chips
- 2:08Speaker 2: in with Jared Vertz and go and get Miles Garrett.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And you know, they were one of the.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Rare teams that has a vetination like that and then actually,
- 2:16Speaker 2: you know, finds the way to pony up and make
- 2:18Speaker 2: it happen.
- 2:19Speaker 3: This is Nate Atkins, beat writer for The Athletic covering
- 2:21Speaker 3: the Los Angeles Rams calling talking to us from Southern
- 2:24Speaker 3: California the Beacon Plumbing Hotlight. Nate, how much of the
- 2:28Speaker 3: Browns moving around Miles Garrett's money, moving some of the
- 2:32Speaker 3: bonus money from March into the summer and then the
- 2:36Speaker 3: acceleration costs that the Browns of course had to do
- 2:39Speaker 3: and absorb it against the Cap instead of the Rams
- 2:41Speaker 3: by trading him. How much did the money show gain
- 2:44Speaker 3: and the Browns made it easier to trade Garrett? How
- 2:47Speaker 3: much did that play into the Rams finally getting it done.
- 2:51Speaker 2: That was basically the turning point because when they were
- 2:54Speaker 2: talking before the draft, that was what the Rams were
- 2:56Speaker 2: hoping the Browns were open to doing. Without that, it
- 3:00Speaker 2: would have been just a lot harder for an outside
- 3:03Speaker 2: team to acquire Miles Garrett. Once that actually went through,
- 3:06Speaker 2: That's when Ram Zero manager West needs saw more of
- 3:10Speaker 2: a lane, more of an opening to keep coming back
- 3:12Speaker 2: after this and see what they could do. So that
- 3:16Speaker 2: was pretty much the game changer and the whole thing.
- 3:19Speaker 4: How much, Nate, how much of this move was do
- 3:23Speaker 4: you think was more about maximizing these remaining years of
- 3:27Speaker 4: Matthew Stafford versus building a RAMS roster that can contend
- 3:33Speaker 4: even when Stafford eventually hangs them up.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, both elements are in play. That's why they were
- 3:40Speaker 2: also interested in Trent McDuffie because they were ready to
- 3:43Speaker 2: sign him to a four year extension. They saw Miles
- 3:45Speaker 2: Garrett as a guy at the top of his game,
- 3:48Speaker 2: and he's turning thirty one this year, but you know,
- 3:50Speaker 2: he just had twenty three sacks last year. In the
- 3:53Speaker 2: contract that's so affordable for the next three seasons that
- 3:56Speaker 2: they saw this as a bargain financially for them kind
- 4:00Speaker 2: of no matter how it would shake out, even if
- 4:02Speaker 2: he drops off a little bit. So there is a
- 4:05Speaker 2: vision for you know, when when Ty Simpson steps in
- 4:08Speaker 2: ideally having this elite defense. You know there are years
- 4:12Speaker 2: Miles has five more years on his deal and the
- 4:14Speaker 2: contract goes way up for the final two seasons and
- 4:18Speaker 2: that's when ty Simpson's supposed to step in, and so
- 4:21Speaker 2: that was the idea there. But there is risk to
- 4:23Speaker 2: that approach too, because bringing in Miles Garrett is going
- 4:26Speaker 2: to make it a lot harder for them to retain
- 4:28Speaker 2: the four free agent offensive linemen that they have, and
- 4:31Speaker 2: they are two free agent wide receivers and Devonte Adams
- 4:34Speaker 2: and pukin Akua, so they're going to have to get
- 4:36Speaker 2: very choosy as to which ones they bring back. They
- 4:39Speaker 2: hope they have a runway of multiple years with Matthew
- 4:41Speaker 2: Stafford to start drafting and developing future starters at those positions,
- 4:45Speaker 2: But ultimately they were willing to do it because this
- 4:48Speaker 2: is still about on Sean McVay on the offensive side
- 4:51Speaker 2: of the ball, and with this quarterback they drafted, so
- 4:53Speaker 2: I think they just decided they'd rather figure out that
- 4:55Speaker 2: side of the ball when the time comes and hope
- 4:58Speaker 2: that they still have an elite defense that can lower
- 5:01Speaker 2: the pressure on a young quarterback whenever it is tys
- 5:03Speaker 2: Simpson's turn to go out there and start.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Well, you mentioned that looking a few years ahead and
- 5:09Speaker 4: talking about what Miles contract creates and difficult decisions regarding
- 5:14Speaker 4: extensions for players like I'm assuming Pogan Nakula, Kobe Turner,
- 5:17Speaker 4: and Byron Young. You think the front officers will is
- 5:20Speaker 4: comforable with that trade off, considering let's say they do
- 5:23Speaker 4: win it all in twenty twenty seven.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the super Bowl is the number one goal by
- 5:29Speaker 2: far for this season, and I think if they're able
- 5:32Speaker 2: to get two super Bowl rings out of that trade
- 5:35Speaker 2: for Matthew Stafford, they'll look at this era as a
- 5:38Speaker 2: big time success. Well knowing that, you know, there's a
- 5:41Speaker 2: challenge to sustaining doll and luckily to them, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 2: Miles Garrett's extend his contract is affordable enough the next
- 5:49Speaker 2: three years that there is some that they can do.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Where it gets tough is if they're trying to sign
- 5:54Speaker 2: a four year extension that starts next year for some
- 5:58Speaker 2: of these players, the ones who can really demand it,
- 6:00Speaker 2: like Byron Young and Kobe Turner and Kuka Nakua. That's
- 6:05Speaker 2: where it could be a little bit more challenging. And
- 6:07Speaker 2: so I think they understand that they were already having
- 6:09Speaker 2: a hard time ranking the free agents that they have
- 6:12Speaker 2: and prioritizing exactly which ones to sign and which order
- 6:15Speaker 2: to do it in so this.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Muddies that picture.
- 6:18Speaker 2: But to them, Miles Garrett was the bigger investment than
- 6:21Speaker 2: all of these free agents, and I think they're willing
- 6:23Speaker 2: to let several of them go, and I think several
- 6:26Speaker 2: of them will hit free agency and then.
- 6:28Speaker 1: They'll just have to deal with that when it comes.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Nate Atkins, the beat writer for the Rams in Los
- 6:34Speaker 3: Angeles for the Athletic Talkinos on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline
- 6:37Speaker 3: here on ninety three point three KJRFM, You've mentioned a
- 6:41Speaker 3: Koua a couple times as a priority. He's entering the
- 6:43Speaker 3: final year of his contract. It was assumed that he
- 6:46Speaker 3: was going to get a deal add or maybe above
- 6:49Speaker 3: the value of Jackson Smith's and Jigba, who just signed
- 6:52Speaker 3: the record in this spring for one hundred and sixty
- 6:54Speaker 3: eight million dollars a wide receiver record in the NFL.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Does all of this, Nate, mean that maybe Nikoua plays
- 7:00Speaker 3: out his contract year and the Rams revisit this after
- 7:03Speaker 3: the season, or do you think between this and the
- 7:05Speaker 3: hiatus that he's been on working on his life off
- 7:08Speaker 3: the field, does that change what the Rams want to
- 7:11Speaker 3: do with Nakoor? Do you still expect that to get
- 7:14Speaker 3: done in pre.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Season well to be honest with you.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Before the Miles hear It trade, I still didn't think
- 7:20Speaker 2: that was going to be a deal that would happen
- 7:22Speaker 2: until after this season. It's possible that there's a breakthrough.
- 7:26Speaker 2: They tend to try to do some of these extensions
- 7:29Speaker 2: in August, and they've done a couple in season last year.
- 7:32Speaker 2: It's possible that by then they came to a new conclusion.
- 7:36Speaker 2: But they really wanted Puka to display a long pattern
- 7:39Speaker 2: of new behavior because there's a long pattern of concerning
- 7:42Speaker 2: behavior that led up to it. They didn't want to
- 7:44Speaker 2: set him up in a situation where you just have
- 7:47Speaker 2: to kind of go through motions for a month or
- 7:49Speaker 2: two and then land a deal that gives him all
- 7:52Speaker 2: the power in the world to kind of do whatever
- 7:54Speaker 2: he wants. And so they've been cautious with it ever
- 7:58Speaker 2: since last season ended.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I think getting Miles.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Garrett and Trett mcduffy was their way to buy into,
- 8:04Speaker 2: you know, people and players that they already believe in
- 8:07Speaker 2: who don't have to prove anything else to them, and
- 8:10Speaker 2: through that show, send a message to Puoka and everybody
- 8:13Speaker 2: else of what they're looking for and players that they're
- 8:15Speaker 2: going to extend sou. I totally expect Puka at this
- 8:19Speaker 2: point to play out this season and then and then
- 8:22Speaker 2: we'll see. There's different options they could. They could sign
- 8:25Speaker 2: him after the season. They could use the franchise tag
- 8:27Speaker 2: and give this a two year evaluation. They could look
- 8:31Speaker 2: into a franchise tag in trade potentially, but they'd have
- 8:34Speaker 2: to have other receivers which they don't have on the
- 8:37Speaker 2: team under contract right now, so a lot is up
- 8:40Speaker 2: in the air. And they really really do need this
- 8:42Speaker 2: to work out with Puka Nakua, not only for Matthew
- 8:45Speaker 2: Stafford's window, but you know, win Ty Simpson steps in.
- 8:48Speaker 2: He really needs a go to receiver and they that's
- 8:51Speaker 2: the only one on their roster that has that potential
- 8:54Speaker 2: in a couple of years. So they still really wanted
- 8:56Speaker 2: to come together. They're challenging and supporting Pooka to make
- 9:01Speaker 2: those changes, and I think they've seen good progress just
- 9:04Speaker 2: in these past couple months of him going to holistic care,
- 9:07Speaker 2: seeking out team therapy and then coming back and putting
- 9:10Speaker 2: in good work in this offseason program.
- 9:13Speaker 1: They just need to see a lot more.
- 9:14Speaker 2: They need to see it carry through the highs and
- 9:17Speaker 2: lows and the fame and expectations of this make or
- 9:21Speaker 2: break season for their team, and so I just think
- 9:23Speaker 2: it's something we're gonna have to wait and see.
- 9:25Speaker 3: On Nate Atkins, Rams meatwriter for The Athletic joining US
- 9:28Speaker 3: Live and KJR okay. On top of all of that,
- 9:33Speaker 3: you reported yesterday of Sean mcvay's comments about Aaron Donald,
- 9:37Speaker 3: the fact we've seen online Donald working out with his
- 9:40Speaker 3: Pittsburgh trainer as if he might come back to play
- 9:42Speaker 3: at age thirty five out of retirement. And then you
- 9:45Speaker 3: reported on McVeigh saying that he's spoken to Aaron Donald
- 9:48Speaker 3: about the possibility of him perhaps rejoining the Rams now
- 9:52Speaker 3: that Miles Garrett is here. How viable is this is
- 9:55Speaker 3: his option? Do you think this is a little smoke
- 9:57Speaker 3: or you think this is real? And how much does
- 10:00Speaker 3: Miles Garrett coming tell Iron Donald let's let's do this.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Is Is this a tipping point that might put him
- 10:05Speaker 3: in the Rams uniform this year?
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's definitely a possibility, but a lot more
- 10:12Speaker 2: has to happen for it to become, you know, a
- 10:15Speaker 2: probability or something that actually happens. You know, my Aaron
- 10:19Speaker 2: Donald is you know, he's been retired since the twenty
- 10:22Speaker 2: twenty three season at this point. And you know, I
- 10:24Speaker 2: asked him last fall when he came back to be
- 10:26Speaker 2: honored by the RAMS, I asked him, what still gives
- 10:29Speaker 2: you the itch sometimes in your daily life that makes
- 10:32Speaker 2: you miss playing and he said at that point, he.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Said absolutely nothing.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And so if he's now having an itch for this,
- 10:39Speaker 2: you can kind of figure out that it has a
- 10:42Speaker 2: lot to do with Miles Garrett and maybe a little
- 10:44Speaker 2: bit to do.
- 10:44Speaker 1: With Trett McDuffie.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It's a different kind of setup for a player that
- 10:48Speaker 2: would want to come back and play a limited role.
- 10:51Speaker 1: But we'll just kind of have to see how it
- 10:53Speaker 1: plays out.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I mean, Aaron Donald has worked out to this level
- 10:56Speaker 2: pretty much every day since he retired, so that hasn't
- 10:59Speaker 2: really changed it all. And that's that's why they've always
- 11:01Speaker 2: held out a little bit of hope. It's that this
- 11:03Speaker 2: isn't a player who is just going to turn off
- 11:05Speaker 2: everything physically for years and then try and kick off
- 11:08Speaker 2: the rust. He is in great, you know, training as
- 11:11Speaker 2: far as the weight room goes, but it's a different
- 11:13Speaker 2: world when you're talking about training camp and playing a
- 11:16Speaker 2: long season and playing that position in the defensive line.
- 11:20Speaker 2: And you know he's still going to get double teams
- 11:22Speaker 2: even if Miles Garrett is out there. And that was
- 11:24Speaker 2: all the stuff that led Aaron Donald to retire in
- 11:26Speaker 2: the first place, and so you just never see that.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I can think of a defensive lineman coming out of retirement,
- 11:33Speaker 2: you know, multiple years later into his mid thirties. But also,
- 11:36Speaker 2: Aaron Donald is different than just about every defensive lineman
- 11:39Speaker 2: who's ever played. So if there's someone who could do
- 11:41Speaker 2: it and be very effective and fit a window, it's him.
- 11:45Speaker 2: But he has to be the one the oldest way
- 11:46Speaker 2: to decide that, and I think certainly he seems intrigued
- 11:50Speaker 2: by the possiblity of Miles Garrett, but there's more that
- 11:52Speaker 2: has to happen, I think, for him to actually fully
- 11:55Speaker 2: come on board and decide to do this, when just
- 11:57Speaker 2: last fall he had it so.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Far out of his mind.
- 12:01Speaker 4: If Donald, let's just hypothetically play this fun game that
- 12:04Speaker 4: we do on radio all the time, but let's say
- 12:07Speaker 4: Donald does return, how would that change what the Rams
- 12:13Speaker 4: defense is trying to be compared to last season when
- 12:17Speaker 4: they were younger and they were developing unit versus bring
- 12:20Speaker 4: back Donald, you have Miles Garrett.
- 12:22Speaker 5: How does that look.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it look a lot different. You know, there were
- 12:27Speaker 2: people who wanted him to come back late last season
- 12:29Speaker 2: when it was player they had a Super Bowl contending team,
- 12:32Speaker 2: but like you mentioned, that was a much younger defense
- 12:34Speaker 2: and a lot more would have been on his plate,
- 12:36Speaker 2: even as they were pretty talented up front. This year
- 12:39Speaker 2: would be different just because Miles Garrett would be obviously
- 12:42Speaker 2: the lead engine of the defensive line, the guy demanding
- 12:45Speaker 2: so many double teams. It would take some of those
- 12:48Speaker 2: off of a player like Aaron Donald who would play
- 12:50Speaker 2: there at the three technique spot, and you know, he
- 12:52Speaker 2: would end up rotating with you know, Kobe Turner and
- 12:55Speaker 2: Braden Fisk and would end up, you know, that would
- 13:00Speaker 2: end up being a kind of neat tandem to see
- 13:02Speaker 2: them mix and match there. And if Aaron Donald's back,
- 13:05Speaker 2: I mean they would I'm sure they would do everything
- 13:07Speaker 2: they can to have him only play passing downs rather
- 13:11Speaker 2: than you know, try and hould up on double teams
- 13:13Speaker 2: in the run games.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So that's the value of.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Having a Brandon Fisk and Kobe Turner, and then what
- 13:19Speaker 2: they did in the secondary, adding Trent McDuffie and Jalen
- 13:21Speaker 2: Watson from the Chiefs. Ideally, that's going to make life
- 13:24Speaker 2: easier on all these defensive linemen to rush rush for
- 13:27Speaker 2: less time and be able to get to the quarterback
- 13:30Speaker 2: or affect the throws and have the defensive secondary make
- 13:33Speaker 2: plays off of it. So it's a much better situation
- 13:35Speaker 2: than Aaron Donald has ever been able to look at
- 13:38Speaker 2: with this team since he retired and even think about
- 13:40Speaker 2: coming back. But you know, still a challenge for a
- 13:43Speaker 2: guy that's in his mid thirties and hasn't played in
- 13:45Speaker 2: a couple of years to hold up at that position.
- 13:48Speaker 2: So you know, they would have to get creative as
- 13:50Speaker 2: far as the snap count in the role and maybe
- 13:53Speaker 2: some of the timing of when you know when he
- 13:55Speaker 2: would practice or maybe even when he would come back.
- 13:57Speaker 2: That's what's the other question out there is, I don't
- 14:00Speaker 2: know if he wants to do it. You know, he'd
- 14:02Speaker 2: have to decide does he wanted to go through training camp.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Does he want to use that as a ramp up?
- 14:06Speaker 2: Is it more of a you know, mid season type
- 14:08Speaker 2: of thing when you look at a team that you
- 14:10Speaker 2: can already expect to be in the playoff push, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 2: there's a lot of a lot of questions out there,
- 14:15Speaker 2: and that's where they have not gotten into anything yet
- 14:17Speaker 2: because they're just waiting to see if Aaron really wants
- 14:21Speaker 2: to do this, and that's something he's got to decide.
- 14:23Speaker 2: But no doubt if they're able to add Aaron Donald
- 14:26Speaker 2: to a defensive line with Miles Garrett and Byron Young
- 14:29Speaker 2: and Kobe Turner and Braden Fisk and Poonah Ford, they'd
- 14:32Speaker 2: be very happy to do that. And I think it
- 14:34Speaker 2: would work out pretty well if he's willing to do that.
- 14:37Speaker 3: How much money you think Poona Ford got to give
- 14:39Speaker 3: up ninety five to Miles Garrett Nate.
- 14:43Speaker 2: That was funny, Miles Yestudy said, Well, Sean McVay asked him.
- 14:48Speaker 2: He said, oh, you had to spare a couple of bucks,
- 14:50Speaker 2: and he said more than a couple bucks, so probably
- 14:53Speaker 2: curious to.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Ask Poona about that.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Eventually it came together so quickly though the trade went
- 14:57Speaker 2: down on Monday morning, Poona tweet had a joke about
- 15:01Speaker 2: getting a jersey stolen, and then by the very next day,
- 15:03Speaker 2: Miles Garrett's holding up number ninety five. So I have
- 15:06Speaker 2: a feeling that Miles figured that out, you know, with
- 15:09Speaker 2: a good amount of money.
- 15:10Speaker 1: But he also had some time he knew.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I think this has been pretty close in the works
- 15:14Speaker 2: for about a week now, so it didn't all happen overnight.
- 15:17Speaker 2: But yeah, I think Poona got a little bonus out
- 15:19Speaker 2: of that.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Poon Afford the former popular Seahawks Nose Tack Report. It's guys,
- 15:23Speaker 3: start here in Seattle as an undrafted rookie UT of Texas. Yeah,
- 15:27Speaker 3: go forward. It's a big popular favorite up here, Nate.
- 15:30Speaker 3: We spent a lot of time up here in Seattle
- 15:32Speaker 3: and have since the Super Bowl really talking about the
- 15:35Speaker 3: Rams and how they're reloading and gunning for the Seahawks,
- 15:38Speaker 3: and how much are the Seahawks on the minds of
- 15:42Speaker 3: the Rams. How much do they think the gap is
- 15:45Speaker 3: already closed by the moves they made. How much of
- 15:47Speaker 3: this all is with Seattle in mind?
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Seattle and San Francisco are both very
- 15:55Speaker 2: much at the front of our minds because now they
- 15:58Speaker 2: know they went through that gauntlet last year, how difficult
- 16:00Speaker 2: that was and didn't end up winning the division. And
- 16:03Speaker 2: you know it worked out to get the NFC title game,
- 16:05Speaker 2: but they weren't at home for that. They had to
- 16:07Speaker 2: play in that crazy Seattle crowd and environment. I think
- 16:11Speaker 2: they looked at last year and I really thought that
- 16:13Speaker 2: they were right there neck and neck with the Seahawks,
- 16:16Speaker 2: which is how each of those three games played out,
- 16:19Speaker 2: but the Seahawks ended up pulling.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Out the last two.
- 16:21Speaker 2: And I think the way they looked at it is
- 16:23Speaker 2: that while they thought the teams were equal and maybe
- 16:25Speaker 2: total overall abilities, the Seahawks were the more balanced and
- 16:29Speaker 2: well rounded team. They had to it on offense, defense,
- 16:32Speaker 2: and special teams, whereas the Rams put everything on the
- 16:34Speaker 2: number one scoring offense tried to survive the other two
- 16:37Speaker 2: in those games are what really.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Exposed the leaks there.
- 16:40Speaker 2: So you know, I think the moves on defense answer
- 16:44Speaker 2: in their minds or at least address a lot of
- 16:46Speaker 2: that where they felt like they weren't physical enough in
- 16:49Speaker 2: coverage on the outside or good enough in run defense
- 16:52Speaker 2: when Kenneth Walker would spring it outside. So they brought
- 16:54Speaker 2: in some more physical cornerbacks and then Miles Garrett becoming
- 16:58Speaker 2: that guy that if you want to the Seahawks Rams
- 17:01Speaker 2: games last season, the Rams were able to get pressure,
- 17:04Speaker 2: but they just weren't able to finish the deals. Sam
- 17:06Speaker 2: Darl was able to get out of it find different outlets,
- 17:10Speaker 2: So I think going and getting a player like Miles
- 17:12Speaker 2: Garrett lets them believe that, you know, you can double him,
- 17:15Speaker 2: you can send anything, any kind of attention at him.
- 17:18Speaker 2: He's still the type of talent who can win on
- 17:20Speaker 2: third and eight against attention the way that Jared Vers
- 17:24Speaker 2: just wasn't quite ready to do all that last season.
- 17:27Speaker 2: So I think this is you know, it's a move
- 17:29Speaker 2: for the Super Bowl and all the teams that they'll face,
- 17:31Speaker 2: but that very much starts with the Seahawks and the
- 17:33Speaker 2: forty nine ers, and that's a big reason why they've
- 17:36Speaker 2: been this aggressive this year, where you know, there they
- 17:39Speaker 2: were already the Super Bowl favorites before this Miles Garrett trade,
- 17:42Speaker 2: but they realized just how difficult this road is going
- 17:45Speaker 2: to be this season, and they'd really love in their world.
- 17:49Speaker 2: In their minds, the perfect world would be to get
- 17:50Speaker 2: home field advantage and then play four games, three games
- 17:55Speaker 2: at so FI Stadium, including the Super Bowl next year.
- 17:57Speaker 2: That's their dream, and that's why they're going so hard
- 18:00Speaker 2: after it.
- 18:01Speaker 3: They've done that before and won a Super Bowl with
- 18:03Speaker 3: Matthew Stafford, Cooper Cup and the Gang doing just that
- 18:06Speaker 3: on their home field. Nate, I know it's been busy week.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I appreciate you joining us. I'll see you in a
- 18:10Speaker 3: couple times at least maybe three times again this year
- 18:13Speaker 3: in the press boxes at Rams Seahawks games. Thanks all
- 18:15Speaker 3: for joining us.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna be fun.
- 18:19Speaker 2: And make sure you don't write any of your game
- 18:20Speaker 2: story until the final minute because.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Those games are so absolutely crazy. But it should be.
- 18:25Speaker 2: It should be a fun battle again this year.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Thanks Nate. We'll have him back on So Nate Atkins
- 18:29Speaker 3: from Los Angeles, the beat writer for the Rams for
- 18:31Speaker 3: the Athletic, saying of Aaron Donald at age thirty five,
- 18:36Speaker 3: three years now out of the game, possibly coming out
- 18:38Speaker 3: of retirement to join Miles Garret on the Rams defense,
- 18:41Speaker 3: he said, you just don't see it after being out
- 18:44Speaker 3: that long, and then Nate Atkins said, quote, then again,
- 18:47Speaker 3: Aaron Donald is different than just about every defensive lineman
- 18:49Speaker 3: that's ever played. He also thought it was interesting that
- 18:53Speaker 3: Nate Atkins, the Rams beat writer for the Athletic, just
- 18:55Speaker 3: told us that the Puka Nakua deal may not happen
- 18:57Speaker 3: this year. He may play out his con here and
- 19:00Speaker 3: perhaps be franchise Tag and Nate Atkins for twenty twenty seven.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Nate Adkins brought up the possibility of a franchise tag
- 19:06Speaker 3: and potentially trade depending on how this year goes for him,
- 19:11Speaker 3: not just on the field, but off the field. How
- 19:12Speaker 3: much the Rams want to see Pooka Nakua improve off
- 19:15Speaker 3: the field and grow and mature, and the problems that
- 19:19Speaker 3: he's had off the field, those are interesting. If you
- 19:21Speaker 3: missed our interview with Nate Atkins, the Rams beat writer

- 20:07Speaker 1: Expected to talk to.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Sam Darnold after practice today. I talked to Derek Hall
- 20:12Speaker 3: after practice today. Just signed his three year contract extension
- 20:15Speaker 3: this morning here at team headquarters. Those stories will be
- 20:18Speaker 3: up later at the News Tribune the Newstribune dot com.
- 20:22Speaker 3: You know what time it is. The music means it's
- 20:23Speaker 3: time to reaback your text. I will say four nine,
- 20:25Speaker 3: four to five one in the Kamadud's text line as
- 20:28Speaker 3: soon as I ask for your favorite moment of in
- 20:31Speaker 3: Living Color, a flood of text commit. I spent all
- 20:34Speaker 3: this time on the show preparing and what we're gonna
- 20:37Speaker 3: talk about, and details and the reporting and the journalism
- 20:40Speaker 3: of it, and then I just throw that in off
- 20:42Speaker 3: the cup and the text line blows up above in
- 20:45Speaker 3: Living Color and some great Waynean's memories and build a
- 20:49Speaker 3: Fireman and men on film it Chris, what we got?
- 20:58Speaker 4: This is from the three six Oh is it a
- 21:01Speaker 4: coincidence that for the last two weeks nobody's wanted to
- 21:05Speaker 4: fire Dan Wilson?
- 21:10Speaker 3: Yeah, winning does that, doesn't it. There's still some people
- 21:12Speaker 3: mad about how the Piggyback's working out but yeah, you
- 21:17Speaker 3: win eight games in a row, that does tend to
- 21:20Speaker 3: go away pretty quickly.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Yeah. Right, this is from the two to oh eight.
- 21:26Speaker 4: To be a championship caliber team, you must win a
- 21:30Speaker 4: win series against weaker clubs. When the schedule works in
- 21:33Speaker 4: your favor, take advantage of it. And yes, from the
- 21:36Speaker 4: two o eight, the Manners are definitely taking advantage of
- 21:38Speaker 4: it and they can really stretch out this lead.
- 21:40Speaker 5: In the Al West.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Four to five. Homie the Clown, Environment Bill. That's some
- 21:49Speaker 3: USCG O Day listener, Go Coast Guard co Irish Jason
- 21:56Speaker 3: two six in Living Color, Anton Jackson the homeless man
- 21:58Speaker 3: living in a box. There's a good one in here
- 22:02Speaker 3: about somebody who senior year in high school dressed up
- 22:05Speaker 3: as Anton Jackson. I have to find two six Homie
- 22:09Speaker 3: de Clown. My freshman year, I walked into school five
- 22:13Speaker 3: feet nothing tall. It was Halloween. The biggest senior the
- 22:16Speaker 3: school was dressed up. Is Homie de Clown walking around
- 22:18Speaker 3: with a sock full of bald up socks, beating freshmen
- 22:22Speaker 3: and telling them to shut up. I'll never forget it.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Thanks Aaron. The two six a lot of Homie the
- 22:27Speaker 3: Clown and Fire Marshall bills on here.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Oh yeah, without a question, Anton Jackson, you mentioned that one. Okay,
- 22:35Speaker 5: here we go.
- 22:36Speaker 4: This is from the two o six Watch every NHL
- 22:42Speaker 4: game on CBC thank me later.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Yeah, totally agree, especially because, like I said, we're paying
- 22:49Speaker 3: five hundred dollars a month for cable. Maybe the best
- 22:52Speaker 3: thing about having cable over any other streaming services being
- 22:55Speaker 3: able to watch CBC. Can you watch CBC on fubu
- 22:59Speaker 3: and switch titch whatever those.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Things are called, I would assume.
- 23:03Speaker 1: So.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I know there's some international rights between borders sometimes on
- 23:07Speaker 3: that stuff and streaming and whatnot. But four two vicees go,
- 23:13Speaker 3: nights go. So glad I moved to Vegas before the
- 23:15Speaker 3: crack can arrive and saddle me with another underperforming Seattle
- 23:19Speaker 3: sports team with no championships four two vicees. Why do
- 23:23Speaker 3: you keep saying about the age Matthew Stafford at age
- 23:26Speaker 3: thirty eight when he was MVP at age thirty seven,
- 23:30Speaker 3: Because he's thirty eight, and because he's not gonna play forever,
- 23:33Speaker 3: and because the Rams fully admit they're loading up before
- 23:37Speaker 3: four before Stafford retires, and that's the impetus for all
- 23:42Speaker 3: these moves. They're going for it.
- 23:45Speaker 4: This is from the two six rams are and quotations reloading,
- 23:50Speaker 4: but reloading counting on old players and we don't play
- 23:53Speaker 4: them until late in the season and the Seahawks are young.
- 23:57Speaker 5: We'll see who is the healthier team Christmas.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a big question, right, Everyone says this plan
- 24:04Speaker 3: goes to hell if Matthew Stafford gets injured, it doesn't
- 24:07Speaker 3: play a full season. He had the back issues last preseason,
- 24:11Speaker 3: which didn't prove to affect him during the season at all.
- 24:14Speaker 3: He won the MVP after all, Like the Texter pointed out,
- 24:17Speaker 3: but it's all fun and games until you lose your
- 24:20Speaker 3: starting quarterback in the NFL. Everything you did up to
- 24:24Speaker 3: that point goes for not if you lose your starting
- 24:26Speaker 3: quarterback to an injury. That's true of anybody, but especially
- 24:30Speaker 3: when you have the MVP coming back.
- 24:32Speaker 4: From the three to six to Oh, I'm super excited
- 24:36Speaker 4: to see how Riley Mills does with a starting season healthy.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Dude was a monster in the Super Bowl. Yeah, he
- 24:43Speaker 4: should be a uh he should be a great addition.
- 24:46Speaker 4: And he also adds that he loved the show. Appreciate
- 24:48Speaker 4: the love. Three to six zero, Yeah, I appreciate that.
- 24:51Speaker 3: And there are a couple of Riley Mills text on
- 24:53Speaker 3: here for what they're looking forward to this season. Riley
- 24:56Speaker 3: Mills to me is maybe a track like Byron Murphy
- 25:01Speaker 3: that at beginning they're gonna not be sure how much
- 25:04Speaker 3: he'll play, not sure how much he might contribute to
- 25:07Speaker 3: the pass rush den boom. He shows pass rush ability,
- 25:10Speaker 3: gets more playing time, and we saw what he did
- 25:12Speaker 3: the Super Bowl his first career sack. Remember, Riley Mills
- 25:15Speaker 3: was not on a field until December last year, twelve
- 25:19Speaker 3: months after he had torn his knee his final game
- 25:22Speaker 3: at Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. So what
- 25:26Speaker 3: is he going to be like now with a full offseason,
- 25:29Speaker 3: fully training, fully in the weight room, fully on the
- 25:32Speaker 3: field for these OTA's mini camps. In training camp, you
- 25:36Speaker 3: talk about quantum leaps from year one to year two.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Riley Mills, just in terms of being prepared to play
- 25:42Speaker 3: an NFL season, is going to be night and day
- 25:44Speaker 3: compared to this time last year. Pete Carroll used to
- 25:47Speaker 3: talk all the time about the growth in understanding maturity, responsibility,
- 25:52Speaker 3: and just playing an ability between your first and second
- 25:56Speaker 3: NFL seasons. Riley Mills, this probably might make the biggest
- 25:59Speaker 3: leap of any player on the team. M all right,
- 26:03Speaker 3: this is from the three six oh oh? Excuse me
- 26:07Speaker 3: two five to three. Who do y'all have tonight in
- 26:10Speaker 3: the NBA Finals?
- 26:11Speaker 5: Spurs?
- 26:12Speaker 4: And what do you think about steven A still messing
- 26:14Speaker 4: with the Dan Housen curse. I don't know about the
- 26:19Speaker 4: curse as much, but I think the Spurs get the
- 26:21Speaker 4: dub tonight. I think they actually take the series in
- 26:24Speaker 4: five or six games, Nick.
- 26:27Speaker 3: And I hope this is the last time we mentioned
- 26:29Speaker 3: steven A Smith on this show ever.
- 26:33Speaker 5: Someone is not a supporter.
- 26:36Speaker 3: That guy needs to go away fast.
- 26:40Speaker 5: From the four to one oh, any idea where that is?
- 26:43Speaker 3: Greg four one oh? Off the top of my head,
- 26:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna say Houston.
- 26:50Speaker 4: I will double back and look that up. CNV and
- 26:53Speaker 4: Sportsnet are superior for hockey covers. They actually know the game,
- 26:56Speaker 4: unlike ESPN, Slash ABC, who could give two craps about hockey.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Baltimore's four one oh. Baltimore's four one.
- 27:04Speaker 5: Oh, Well, that was fast.
- 27:06Speaker 3: But I'm sure he lives or she lived, has lived
- 27:09Speaker 3: in the Border area to be able to watch CBC,
- 27:11Speaker 3: or maybe lived in Canada. A lot of Detroit people
- 27:15Speaker 3: watch CBC out of Windsor and feel the same way
- 27:18Speaker 3: about CBC's coverage of the Stanley Cup playoffs. CBC used
- 27:22Speaker 3: to have it itself, and then they lost the contract
- 27:24Speaker 3: to Sportsnet Sports and actually sub leases Hockey Night in
- 27:28Speaker 3: Canada to the franchise, the famous franchise in Canada. They
- 27:32Speaker 3: sublease it to CBC for CBC to carry it's Sportsnet owned,
- 27:36Speaker 3: its sports Net produced, as employees are all sports Net.
- 27:39Speaker 3: It's not CBC's franchise anymore. Sports Net body and now
- 27:44Speaker 3: they sublease it so that it's all over the air
- 27:46Speaker 3: across all of Canada on what it is public television essentially,
- 27:51Speaker 3: in fact, is public television, government owned CBC.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Last one for me from the four to two five
- 27:59Speaker 4: in Living Color, fly Girls and Young j Lo.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Those are some hot topics there, for sure.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Jennifer Lopez was one of the dancers the fly Girls.
- 28:09Speaker 3: And we've talked about this before, but Rosie Perez was
- 28:12Speaker 3: the choreographer of the fly Girls. Rosie Perez of White
- 28:16Speaker 3: Men Can't Jump, The Wife Jeopardy playing wife White Men
- 28:21Speaker 3: Can't Jump. But yeah, Rosie Prez got her big start
- 28:26Speaker 3: as a choreographer for the fly Girls and Jennifer Lopez
- 28:28Speaker 3: is one of the fly Girl dancers on In Living
- 28:30Speaker 3: Color in the early nineties. My kids get a kick
- 28:34Speaker 3: out of watching and Living Color reruns. Of course they'd
- 28:36Speaker 3: never heard of it. They're only twenty three years old,
- 28:38Speaker 3: but they liked. They really like Fire Marshall Bill. They
- 28:42Speaker 3: think that's let me tell you something, Homie the Clown.
- 28:49Speaker 3: There's some good memories of in Living Color. That's like
- 28:54Speaker 3: college for me. Man. That dates me. A lot of
- 28:58Speaker 3: people talking about the Seahawks and the Rams chasing the Seahawks.
- 29:06Speaker 3: They think the Rams are reacting to the Seahawks, but
- 29:09Speaker 3: that the Seahawks are where they are. I'm summarizing, basically,
- 29:14Speaker 3: where the Super Bowl Champions come get us. That seems
- 29:16Speaker 3: to be the theme on the text line. I heard
- 29:18Speaker 3: Chuck pal say that on the radio earlier. It's a
- 29:21Speaker 3: pretty nice perch to be in when you're the Super
- 29:23Speaker 3: Bowl champions. Where I am inside their team headquarters, they
- 29:26Speaker 3: are gathering to practice. Shortly, Ian Farness has walked into
- 29:30Speaker 3: the building. He's going to join me next to talk
- 29:32Speaker 3: about what he's got on his show from twelve until
- 29:35Speaker 3: three from Seahawks Headquarters on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Welcome back to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center, Seahawks Headquarters,
- 29:51Speaker 3: Seahawks OTAs today. The Greg Best Show with Christopher Kibb
- 29:55Speaker 3: will be back out here tomorrow ten am to noon
- 29:58Speaker 3: with me again today and tomorrow and Fords Mayor Maple
- 30:02Speaker 3: Valley joining me. Hello, sir, how are you? I was
- 30:05Speaker 3: good as well, really great Game one at the Cup
- 30:07Speaker 3: Final last night.
- 30:09Speaker 6: That's an unbelievable Yeah, that's what you want in the finals,
- 30:12Speaker 6: isn't it exactly? I mean, give us, give it. I mean,
- 30:15Speaker 6: And when it was one nothing twenty five seconds in
- 30:17Speaker 6: and two nothing three or four minutes in, I'm like, well,
- 30:21Speaker 6: the NHL needs games like that, They need a good series.
- 30:24Speaker 6: They've had a record setting gear in terms of television
- 30:26Speaker 6: viewers and and and so forth. But you know they're
- 30:30Speaker 6: always gonna be playing second fiddle to the NBA finals,
- 30:32Speaker 6: so you need to you need to do something high
- 30:34Speaker 6: level like that, and they certainly did yesterday. It was
- 30:38Speaker 6: everything you wanted.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Then some I saw teams road teams and game one
- 30:41Speaker 3: of a Cup final that trailed by multiple goals were
- 30:43Speaker 3: over and fifty five yeah last night, Yeah.
- 30:47Speaker 6: Which is wild because home I said, advantage has not
- 30:49Speaker 6: met much in these players, but it and last night,
- 30:53Speaker 6: I mean that building last night was popping. It was
- 30:55Speaker 6: crazy when they tied it. I mean back and forth
- 30:57Speaker 6: were like use the basketball term. There was like quick
- 31:00Speaker 6: four lead changes in that game.
- 31:01Speaker 3: So fun game. I'm with you.
- 31:03Speaker 6: I watched, I watched TBC.
- 31:04Speaker 1: It was funny.
- 31:04Speaker 6: With all the TV numbers that the NHL talks about
- 31:08Speaker 6: in the States, those don't include people like US watching
- 31:11Speaker 6: on CBC. And it's not just US Minnesota, like a
- 31:15Speaker 6: lot of the a lot of the border cities. Yeah,
- 31:17Speaker 6: I have CBC and they'll watch that over an ESPN broadcast,
- 31:22Speaker 6: although I think Sean McDonald doesn't. He does, Okay, he's fine.
- 31:27Speaker 6: I prefer the T and T stuff, but I think
- 31:29Speaker 6: Johnny's better than I'm just biased, but I think Johnny's
- 31:31Speaker 6: better than Kenny Albert. But the way we go, we
- 31:34Speaker 6: had nice that we have John fors and aady old
- 31:36Speaker 6: check on on KJR, were carrying all the games on
- 31:38Speaker 6: ninety three point three KJFM, and we had Johnny and
- 31:40Speaker 6: Edzel on last night. Edzo interviewed the commissioner in the
- 31:43Speaker 6: pregame show. I'm driving home listening to that and Betman's
- 31:45Speaker 6: just busting his chops and it was just fantastic.
- 31:48Speaker 3: So I looked for it. Didn't see Bettman mentioning anything
- 31:52Speaker 3: or being asked about.
- 31:54Speaker 6: No. No, they I'll be honest. They didn't get out.
- 31:58Speaker 6: They didn't get out of that what they probably wanted to.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Leave it at that, Okay. I do expect Adam Silver
- 32:06Speaker 3: to get asked about Seattle tonight in his pregame one.
- 32:09Speaker 6: I hope so, I hope so. And just in fairness,
- 32:12Speaker 6: even to the stuff yesterday, if you don't have Seattle
- 32:15Speaker 6: media there or people that are vested in it, you know,
- 32:19Speaker 6: like if you're if you're covering the NHL Finals, the
- 32:22Speaker 6: only person that would have asked Betman or Daily about
- 32:24Speaker 6: it would have been probably Emily Kaplan, who had the story.
- 32:27Speaker 6: And I don't even know if she was there. She
- 32:28Speaker 6: was probably prepping for the broadcast.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Uh.
- 32:31Speaker 6: And then tonight, I mean and with in San Antonio,
- 32:34Speaker 6: Like really, I don't know who who would be there
- 32:37Speaker 6: that we care about expansion unless there's somebody from Seattle
- 32:39Speaker 6: or Vegas. And I know the journalists that would be
- 32:42Speaker 6: there for Seattle and they're not there. So the guy,
- 32:44Speaker 6: one of the that guy would be covering the Mariners
- 32:46Speaker 6: game today, our buddy Timmy so exactly so, and Daniels
- 32:51Speaker 6: isn't there, So yeah, I don't know. I hope he's
- 32:53Speaker 6: asked about it, but because I think what I'd like
- 32:55Speaker 6: to know is, like, what is the name Melinda French Gates?
- 33:00Speaker 6: I mean Adam Silver. Let me emphasize the last name.
- 33:03Speaker 3: That's a good question.
- 33:04Speaker 6: Let me emphasize that last name for a second.
- 33:06Speaker 3: I'd probably answer that question too in sub Way for sure.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Yeah, So out here at Seahawks, I've made a point
- 33:13Speaker 3: during the show about how different this team is just
- 33:15Speaker 3: in twelve months, and every NFL team is different, but
- 33:18Speaker 3: different into how the same they are, and forty nine
- 33:22Speaker 3: and fifty three coming back twenty of twenty two starters.
- 33:26Speaker 3: You could make the case that this is a pretty
- 33:28Speaker 3: uneventful ota offseason, maybe preseason.
- 33:33Speaker 6: Even if it span it out, because if it's you know,
- 33:36Speaker 6: if John was listening Schneider right now, you would be unhappy.
- 33:38Speaker 6: It's a seventy man roster. Grein, Yeah, excuse me, but
- 33:40Speaker 6: even with the seventy's, it's in the sixties out of seventy, yes,
- 33:43Speaker 6: including the practice squad. Price So and look your offensive
- 33:48Speaker 6: line more than likely a set unless pos Stevens steps up.
- 33:53Speaker 6: But I mean maybe there's a competition at right guard.
- 33:56Speaker 6: But I don't even know if there is.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Honestly, Yeah, I'm gonna I'm I'm gonna watch Stevens throughout
- 34:00Speaker 3: training camp to see all.
- 34:03Speaker 6: I just felt like they never had any appetite for
- 34:07Speaker 6: I mean, it was Bradford and that was it.
- 34:09Speaker 1: It was.
- 34:10Speaker 6: I know every fan wanted to be different. But aside,
- 34:13Speaker 6: where's the other competition?
- 34:15Speaker 3: Maybe Tyle Cutt and Bud Clark. It's safety because draft
- 34:18Speaker 3: to Clark so high.
- 34:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I would think so. And we had Tie in
- 34:21Speaker 6: here last week when we were here for the first
- 34:22Speaker 6: not it was open to us. And and you know,
- 34:25Speaker 6: I mean he he knows his role. I mean his
- 34:27Speaker 6: role really is a Swiss army knife. It's you're there
- 34:30Speaker 6: for love, You're there for probably Clark, depending on if
- 34:35Speaker 6: they go dime what they want to do. I mean,
- 34:37Speaker 6: Tie is a pretty valuable piece to the puzzle. But
- 34:39Speaker 6: I mean, obviously the upside of of Bud Clark's a
- 34:41Speaker 6: lot higher, especially where he's picked. But yeah, I mean
- 34:45Speaker 6: maybe that's a little mini competition. Maybe a little mini
- 34:48Speaker 6: competition for the third corner. I think you talked about
- 34:50Speaker 6: that today with me and my Pritchett, right, but it
- 34:53Speaker 6: kind of feels like, you know, with the rookies there,
- 34:55Speaker 6: that could happen. Really outside of that, wre where's the
- 35:00Speaker 6: comps final?
- 35:02Speaker 3: I mean, is Emmanuel fit Wilson fit in? That's curious
- 35:06Speaker 3: to me because if you draft Jedari and Price first,
- 35:09Speaker 3: you expect him to be number one in the first
- 35:12Speaker 3: round pick. Wilson has a contract that is barely above
- 35:15Speaker 3: veteran minimum.
- 35:16Speaker 6: He's in, He's a jag man.
- 35:18Speaker 3: He is just a guy. He's a body.
- 35:20Speaker 6: Like in an ideal world, because you know what he is.
- 35:22Speaker 6: You've got tape, you get NFL tape of him. Yes,
- 35:25Speaker 6: he's just a dude. I think in an ideal world,
- 35:30Speaker 6: obviously Price is your one. When Charbonay is healthy, he's
- 35:34Speaker 6: one A or two. Halani is in the mix, and
- 35:38Speaker 6: I'm sure that they would ideally, they would ideally love
- 35:41Speaker 6: either Macintosh or Jacarti Wright to be a guy there
- 35:45Speaker 6: as well. Yeah, because all those guys have shown glimpses
- 35:48Speaker 6: of being having a higher upside than Wilson.
- 35:51Speaker 3: In every season you need four or five right every season?
- 35:54Speaker 6: No, matter what, and they probably feel like like a
- 35:56Speaker 6: right guy, like right, they can probably aways flow him
- 35:57Speaker 6: through the practice squad. But I mean a year ago,
- 36:00Speaker 6: well ten months ago, right in July, we're watching Jacarti right,
- 36:06Speaker 6: and he's he's a dude. Yeah, he was every he
- 36:09Speaker 6: was ahead of he was ahead of not McIntosh, he's
- 36:12Speaker 6: ahead of what's his face, Damian Martinez Kings.
- 36:15Speaker 3: And that's so much so that the rid of Martinez.
- 36:17Speaker 6: Right and then right got hurt. But yeah, I don't,
- 36:20Speaker 6: I don't. I think Wilson is this year's version of
- 36:24Speaker 6: Marquez Valdez Scanling Mike like, Okay, you're bringing a guy in.
- 36:27Speaker 6: He's a veteran. If he makes it great, if he doesn't,
- 36:30Speaker 6: there's no like you said, the contract is easily easily
- 36:33Speaker 6: distinguished or extinguished.
- 36:35Speaker 3: I should say, what do you get today?
- 36:37Speaker 6: Steve Pelozolo thirty thirteen checked the Mike podcast. At twelve twenty,
- 36:40Speaker 6: we'll talk about the Miles Garrett. We'll get into that situation.
- 36:46Speaker 6: We'll do that at twelve twenty. Hugh Mellin's gonna join
- 36:48Speaker 6: me at one. I haven't that chance to talk to
- 36:50Speaker 6: him about Miles Garrett. And then I'm gonna get a
- 36:52Speaker 6: little little different thing with Hugh, you know, with the
- 36:54Speaker 6: whole baseball situation going on with the MLBPA and Major
- 36:58Speaker 6: League Baseball, the owners and the early talk about salary cap.
- 37:02Speaker 6: You know, he was a player rep for a long
- 37:04Speaker 6: time in the NFL, has been through these types of
- 37:06Speaker 6: things before, and I believe he was the player a
- 37:08Speaker 6: player rep in the NFL at the time when everything
- 37:11Speaker 6: got changed in the NFL back in the when they
- 37:13Speaker 6: went from the Plan B free agency our actual free
- 37:16Speaker 6: agency and all that stuff.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Yeah, So I'm just.
- 37:18Speaker 6: Gonna I think it'd be interesting to lean on you
- 37:20Speaker 6: a little bit for his insight on because it feels,
- 37:23Speaker 6: I know, it's June and we're a ways away. They
- 37:27Speaker 6: are so far apart, like they are just fundamentally salary cap,
- 37:31Speaker 6: no solar cap, right, and they and this is there's
- 37:34Speaker 6: always been talk of salary cap. This is the first
- 37:37Speaker 6: time they've gone heavy heart into the salary cap talk
- 37:39Speaker 6: since ninety four. And I don't have to remind people
- 37:41Speaker 6: what happened in ninety four. Look for look for the
- 37:44Speaker 6: World Series champ that year and you'll find out you'll
- 37:46Speaker 6: find nothing. It's like looking for the NCAA champion in
- 37:49Speaker 6: basketball March Madness in twenty twenty. There is nothing there.
- 37:51Speaker 6: It's a black slate. So we got out of that
- 37:55Speaker 6: coming up today. Oh and then Elijah Royal is gonna
- 37:57Speaker 6: join us, oh A twenty I believe in there.
- 38:01Speaker 3: There's a Seahawks who has a lot at stake here
- 38:03Speaker 3: this offseason.
- 38:05Speaker 6: I would say, and he's getting some opportunities since Barner's
- 38:07Speaker 6: coming up, coming off some surgeries. He's getting he's getting
- 38:10Speaker 6: some runs. So we'll talk to the second your tight end.
- 38:12Speaker 6: You look at the you know this that the move
- 38:15Speaker 6: that Barner made from year one to year two, quantumly massively,
- 38:21Speaker 6: production wise, everything else. Arroyal probably in position to do
- 38:24Speaker 6: that too, So we'll talk to him coming up, get
- 38:26Speaker 6: to know him a little bit.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Twenty five or so. That's here from the Virginia Maates
- 38:29Speaker 3: Athletics Center, Seahawks headquarters. I'm heading out to practice to
- 38:32Speaker 3: watch that. I'll tell you what I saw. Tomorrow ten
- 38:34Speaker 3: to noon. Ian is up next with Anderson Hurst.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Chris.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Thanks back at the studio, Chris, and I will be
- 38:38Speaker 3: with your ten and noon tomorrow in ninety three point
- 38:40Speaker 3: three KJRFM
