- 0:01In order to carry out the spiritual practices and work for
- 0:05the transformation of human nature, the vital being needs to
- 0:09agree to change its habitual sources of satisfaction and
- 0:13fulfillment to an entirely different basis.
- 0:18The pursuit of pleasure and the accompanying experience of pain
- 0:23is considered normal and, for most people, an inevitable
- 0:28result of the vital nature as it exists.
- 0:32Whenever anyone attempts to address or change this dynamic,
- 0:36he is confronted by the power that the vital can exercise,
- 0:40both in its own right and in its ability to manipulate and
- 0:45influence the mind and the physical body.
- 0:50The first power of the Vital is simply to assert its will and
- 0:54carry out its normal activities, even against the disagreement of
- 0:59the mind or the higher elements of the being.
- 1:03This can lead to a struggle or a battle and a lot of internal
- 1:07suffering as long as the vital insists on its own way of doing
- 1:12things. The second Power is one of
- 1:16manipulation of the mind. To invent excuses and reasons
- 1:20why the mind should support and agree to the propensity that the
- 1:25vital wants to express. This resolves the potential
- 1:29conflict in favor of the Vital's normal objectives.
- 1:35If, however, the mind, the psychic sense, the spiritual
- 1:40focus of the being, objects to this and wants to change the
- 1:44Vital's action, the third Power is often employed, which is
- 1:49essentially the Vital refusing its support and going on strike.
- 1:56This leads to lack of energy, lack of motivation, depression,
- 2:03feelings of listlessness. It is only when the vital begins
- 2:08to appreciate and understand the higher purpose and begins to
- 2:13agree with it that the seeker can actually overcome the
- 2:16opposition of the vital nature to the spiritual purpose.
- 2:22A disciple asks, does depression come from the Vital?
- 2:27The mother writes. Quote, Oh yes, all your
- 2:31troubles, depression, discouragement, disgust, fury,
- 2:37all, all come from the vital. It is that which turns love into
- 2:42hate. It is that which induces the
- 2:46spirit of vengeance, rancor, bad will, the urge to destroy and to
- 2:51harm. It is that which discourages you
- 2:55when things are difficult and not to its liking, and it has an
- 2:59extraordinary capacity for going on strike.
- 3:04When it is not satisfied, it hides in a corner and does not
- 3:08budge. And then you have no more
- 3:11energy, no more strength, You have no courage left.
- 3:16Your will is like like a withering plant.
- 3:21All resentment, disgust, fury, all despair, grief, anger, all
- 3:29that comes from this gentleman. For it is energy and action.
- 3:35Therefore it depends on which side it turns.
- 3:38And I tell you, it has a very strong habit of going on strike.
- 3:43That is its most powerful weapon.
- 3:47Ah, you are not doing what I want.
- 3:49Well, I'm not going to move. I shall sham dead.
- 3:54And it does that for the least reason.
- 3:57It has a very bad character. It is very touchy and it is very
- 4:01spiteful. Yes, it is very illnatured, for
- 4:06I believe it is very conscious of its power and it feels
- 4:10clearly that it gives itself holy.
- 4:14There is nothing that will resist the momentum of its
- 4:16force. And like all people who have a
- 4:19weight in the balance, the vital also bargains.
- 4:23I shall give you my energy. But you must do what I want.
- 4:27If you do not give me what I asked for, well, I will withdraw
- 4:31my energy and you will be flat as a pancake.
- 4:37It is true. It happens like that.
