- 0:21SPEAKER_02: Welcome back to Let's Stick Together, episode seven of season nine.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: It's been a while again.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: We've been away together in Valencia.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: I should say before we even start, we I always forget to do this.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: We are brought to you by Y1 Hockey and Y1 Sport, the the great guys over there.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: They support us in many ways.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: But I thought, have you checked out Y1 Paddle?
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: I'm a big fan of Paddle.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: I've got a couple of their bats.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: They are fantastic.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: If you are also interested in paddle, you go and check them out.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Have you got a Y1 paddle bat Yupe?
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: No, because I think uh it's too much money to ship the things across the pond with Brexit and shit, so uh I get nothing.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Just get a shitload of money and some sticks from Y1.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: That's that's it.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: And your own limited edition stick with your blood and my limited edition stick.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: No, I actually have I have uh I think I have I think I have one.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: I if if you say wonderful people at Y1, do you also mean yourself because you work there now?
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: You do I yeah, I g yeah, I guess I do, yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: I mean it's a horror horrible, shameless plug saying I'm a great guy.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: Me and Yup got excited because um they're doing uh the the the Y1 team is off to uh Europe in a few weeks' time to do some shooting with with big timers like Yup.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: And um I might be tagging along, so there's a there's a lot of excitement that I might get to go back to Eindhoven and and um me and Yupe could do some shooting on a pitch together, and we even might record an episode.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Could be pretty exciting.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: What's this space?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, is Phil is gonna sleep over at my place, we're gonna stay up late, drink drink Coca-Cola and like have chips, still like watch a couple movies.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Like it's gonna be good.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: What would the movie be?
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: What would you what would you be like pushing for?
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Either in betweeners, super bad, or uh the other guys.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Oh or old school.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: I like old school as well.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Old school also very good, semi-pro, or just a maybe a Will Farrell masterclass.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's of Gorley.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: On to on to some news, I guess.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Um there's a couple of bits like I I'm just gonna report on some general news.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: There's been lots of indoor happening, but Amsterdam men, with the with the help of the Caseyan brothers, have uh won their first ever European Indoor Cup title, and uh what what what ducks for the women did the same.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: And e East Grinstead women claimed bronze for the first time in 27 years.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: An English club has done well in indoor, so congratulations to them as well.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Um, probably some more exciting news.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: Have you seen what's been happening in Pakistan, youp, with uh pro league and the craziness?
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Well, it this is why I love Pakistan being in the pro league because it brings because it brings out another another layer of uh amateurism to uh to hockey.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: No, they they you you mean the fact that they got stranded in Cam in Canberra, right?
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: Yes, or somewhere in somewhere in Australia.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: If you follow if you don't follow uh Simon Orchard uh yet, I think he's called Uncle Orch on Instagram, uh please do because uh he has some uh really good content.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Uh and he he claimed I've never been to Canberra, but he claimed that there's one thing more shit than being stuck in Australia if you're the Pakistan team that's being stuck in Canberra.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, uh I don't know.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: I think that it's when we were in uh Argentina, when we had to play Argentina and Pakistan, there was already rumors like three days before the the whole tournament started.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Um were already rumors that they weren't uh gonna be uh in Argentina because their visas uh were not uh um uh um how do you say it?
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Accepted.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Uh that their hotel hasn't been booked and that the flights have haven't been booked.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: So I sometimes also think in the end they were there, they were training, they were uh they were they were decent.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: So but yeah, it's uh yeah, it's Pakistan, I think.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: I'm I mean same old, same old.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: I mean I I didn't believe it at first, but then it's been quite widely reported that they effectively got to Australia and um the Federation hadn't booked the or paid for the hotels, so they were stranded for half a day in in Australia without accommodation, and then we had to manage that to find their own accommodation.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: And then the the next step of this is obviously like this has all happened.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Um, but the Pakistan hopp hockey captain um like spoke out and said the federation needs to sort their so essentially sort their shit out.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Um and so what has the federation done?
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: They have now banned uh the captain because he spoke out against them.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: So um Ahmad But was uh was banned uh for publicly criticising uh the handling of the FIH Pro League Tour of Australia.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Um so so they didn't keep focusing on like uh some of the articles keep focusing on like forced they were forced to wash their dishes before matches, and I was like, that's the weirdest thing to focus on because like we were in accommodation, uh like self-accommodation in apartments in Valencia, and before the games, I I washed my my bowl up after I had breakfast, but but like that would be you know the least of my worries.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Maybe that's a different cultural thing, but yeah, yeah, no, no, no clue to be honest.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: I haven't read that that article to be honest, but it's uh it's a weird thing to focus on if your hotel hasn't been paid.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: That the that the worst thing to you is that you have to do your own dishes, to be honest.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: But yeah, yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: So well, I mean, we'll watch this space.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: They're actually we're gonna talk about the World Cup qualifiers, um, and they are uh trying to qualify for the World Cup at the same time, having just been to Australia.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: So uh they're in Egypt.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Um, so we will see.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: I guess it's a bit of a watch this space, but it's just another excellent example of of some some proper proper proper amateurism going on.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: Um we we should probably just talk a little bit about the World Cup qualifiers, uh because it's I mean it's kind of exciting.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: This the pro league's just about to finish um for the first half.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: Um there's like four different tournaments.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: There's two eight team tournaments for the men and two eight team tournaments for the women.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: You doesn't obviously care because they're the you know they they're too big time to big time to care about that.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Actually, before I start, we should talk about our recent trip to Valencia because especially for for for me and England, we actually got one over we got two over on the Dutch, which hardly ever happens.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Um as as we're now going to call them the salty Dutch, because they they weren't happy at the end of the second game.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: But you how was your experience of Valencia?
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: How did you enjoy uh your time in Spain?
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Loved it, enjoyed every minute.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Nah, it was good.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: I think uh it's Spain twice, and you guys twice.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Um I love that you guys uh think you got one over us um when uh it was a draw twice, but you won the shootouts twice.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Um that's like awesome that you get.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: Well, do you say it was the other way around?
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: No, but it was uh it were it they were actually quite uh good games.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: I do have to say we weren't on top of our game, if that's uh fair to say.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Um, we were kind of struggling uh form-wise.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Uh haven't played our best hockey in uh Valencia, but also haven't played our best hockey in Argentina, like we're still uh finding our groove a little bit.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Um happy uh to be honest it happens now, and not that it happens uh in the summer, uh or hopefully it doesn't happen in the summer.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: So we're still finding our groove a little bit, but uh to be to be to to give credit where credit is due, I think uh you guys did really well, uh, England.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Like uh 10 points out of 12 in a group with uh Spain and Holland is not uh it's not uh it's not easy.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: And um, yeah, fair play to you guys.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: You guys did uh actually did quite well.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, sounds patronizing, but thank you.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Um no, no, it doesn't sound patronizing.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: You guys just did really well.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: If we would have gotten 10 points, I would have also said we did really well.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: I mean we would have done okay, we would have done decent.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: It's uh yeah, it was a it was a it was a pretty great trip, I'm not gonna lie, for for going away in uh the start of February and playing two great teams in in Valencia, which is a lovely place as well.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: We were in nice apartments with a nice coffee shop next to us, um, with a bit of nice weather.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: It was pretty great and and stuff started to definitely started to click for us.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: We had more fun, like I mean, we could talk about Spain, I feel like we could talk about Spain all day because every time that you think they're getting somewhere, they had the exact same team, you know, that won bronze in the Euros in the summer.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: They have that you know they came top four in the Olympics the year before that, and then suddenly something like snaps in their head, and they just like they just looks like they really didn't want to play hockey together.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: Um, and they they had a four-game in a row losing streak and are now in Australia playing Australia.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: What what did you make of them?
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: Because obviously you've been kind of hot on them as well.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: I have been.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: I do have to say that um I feel like their goalie is a bit in a funk, if that uh if that's uh that's uh uh fair thing to say.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Like I think the game against us, uh I feel like they were actually, I wouldn't say the better team, but like it was pretty even.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, their goalie had kind of a stinker missing two balls he should have gotten, uh, and it ended up being 3-2 for us.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, it's also a part of the part of the hockey team, so but it's still I think I feel like that's where they lacked a little bit.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: I I feel like they're also a little bit now in the in Dutch, we say in the corner where you get uh where where where the hits are being taken.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: That's a terrible saying in uh English, no nasty, but the hook waar klappen vallen.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Like it all falls a bit out of their their lap, if that makes sense.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Like nothing really falls into their hand now.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, if you see the goals they get against, if you see it's shit that happens, it's all a bit against them.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Um I still consider them uh um I wouldn't say a fake uh like a dark horse to to do some damage in the World Cup.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Uh uh because there's there's a shitload of quality.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of young players, it's a pretty young team, to be honest.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Uh so I still rate them pretty highly, but yeah, if you lose five games in a row, um, because they also lost Australia uh twice, uh so it lost six out of the last seven.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's that's it's quite worrying.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I guess it's a bit overwatch this space because everyone seems to have two different forms, especially in the pro league, where you've kind of got this first half where it's like December, January, February, and then you get the summer where the games come thick and fast and you can suddenly win four games and look like you're doing great.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: So maybe, maybe let's not I'm not gonna jump the gun and um make an over egg.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: It's just funny because you're just like this is the exact same team, they're a bunch of really talented guys, and then they just the if you had like the body language doctor out, um wasn't looking that great.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: Um you're watching them on the pitch, so maybe uh yeah, maybe come summer it'll it'll change up.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: But yeah, um we're gonna I think in episode eight we're gonna go through the go through the the first half of the pro league rankings um and talk talk properly about it.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Probably the last thing I've got to say is like give me your thoughts on Henry Croft uh you.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I have a bit of an uh a bit of a uh what do you call it?
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: Altercation, a bit of a bit of a standoff with him.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Um I knew he knew nothing was really gonna happen.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Like he pointed his finger at me and then I said uh that he acted Billy Big Boss or something, and he called me a wanker and I called him a dipshit or whatever.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Um but in the end, I could kind of I don't take myself too serious, definitely don't take him serious.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: So kind of kind of laughed about it in the end.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Uh but he kind of got under a lot of uh guys' uh skin, but I think internationally he gets under doesn't I don't really know which country he doesn't get under their skin.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: I think that's his uh shtick.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, fair play to him because he scored uh two goals against us.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Uh and I think um, yeah.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: What do you want me to tell about him?
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: Like he scored two goals against us, he wants me to stick feathers up his ass.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Like uh yeah, well done to him.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: But uh no, I don't want you to stick feathers up his ass.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: I just thought it was a funny.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: It's a funny thing for anyone who didn't watch the games.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: I think he's anything we're saying, by the way, sticking feathers up his ass.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: I don't know what that means.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: I just went with it.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: I I assume it means like uh that you're giving him love.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Free someone, yeah.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: I I more and more meant meant I think um he's a polarizing character, is is our crafty.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: He's like the cock, but he's our cock, he's like our brand new one of them.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: Um and he he runs around like a footballer, he he celebrates like a footballer, like no one else in hockey.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: Um, when he scored in Ireland in December, he he did a uh a Eurostep um from basketball.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Uh he has managed to definitely get some headspace in some of the Dutch guys because they it feels like they absolutely hate him.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, watching him, he he also probably hit the ball.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: He he scored a straight hit from a short corner, which which also got a lot of love.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: It's like there's so many people back home being like, bring it back, bring the straight strike back, just fucking whack it.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: And uh it kind of worked.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: Dirk Meyer decided to move out of the way of it, which I actually don't blame him to be honest with you, because he hit it pretty hard.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: Um, and yeah, it's definitely one to watch whenever England are playing.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: I think I would put a camera on him just to see because he's normally either getting up to mischief or trying to hit the ball as hard as he can through the goal.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I wasn't looking to you for you to pluck his feathers or whatever you just said.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: But um, but yeah, we'll probably leave it there.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, I I I actually I can take a joke, and he can I think he he actually can.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: That's the one thing he can take a joke.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: So I I don't I don't really really mind him to be honest, but I I think there's a lot of people who do mind him to be honest.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: Is it a fair assumption?
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: I think that's a very fair assumption.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: I don't think he'd mind either.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: I think we're gonna he's gonna be a future guest on LST for absolute sure.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Um the World Cup qualifiers, I was getting into it, I was basically explaining that in the next uh week or two there is going to be four tournaments, two men's and two women's, and uh both eight team tournaments.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: So and the top three of each tournament is going to qualify for the World Cup with also like a highest ranking loser type of deal, fourth place.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Um, and I've been in touch with Brendan.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Brendan's currently in Egypt right now, uh prepping for his World Cup qualifier, so he's sent through some notes.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Um, you was to like tell you the groups, do you reckon you could make a make a call on who you think is going to do well, or is this just so beneath you that you don't want to talk about this?
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, it is beneath me, but I will talk about it and I will give my opinion.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: But I want to stress to everyone listening that it is very far beneath me.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: So we'll start off with uh the women, and uh there's two two tournaments going on in Chile, um, one in Egypt and one in India.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Uh the first women's one by surprise, it's in India.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Australia, uh first women's tournament, Australia, Japan, Ireland, Chile, France, Canada, Malaysia, and Switzerland.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Now, um, Brendan's very thankfully sent some notes in.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: Would you like to hear his thoughts on this group?
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: No.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: No, you don't want to.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: No, tell me.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Um, he he thinks that Australia, Ireland, and then Chile or Japan will get through.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: He said it'll be tight between Japan and Chile, but he thinks Chile might pip it with the home crowd.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: I assume the the because you went really quickly with all the other teams.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Australia, Japan, Ireland, Chile, France, Canada, Malaysia, and Switzerland.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Don't rule out Switzerland.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Don't rule out Switzerland.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: They've been on the rise.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Have they?
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: They have, yeah, they've been on the rise.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, to be honest, I've uh I think Australia will uh will fly through.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Or it they've they've also kind of dropped off, haven't they?
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Like they're not the Australia that they've been in the past, but I think they will get through.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Um uh but Ireland was good uh what was it?
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Uh a year or uh six, seven, eight ago.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: 2018 World Cup, yeah.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then they were good at this one stint, and uh ever since then they're kind of shit.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: So they're probably the best of the bunch.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I mean this is the thing, yeah.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: It's it's I'm gonna for Japan.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: Okay, you like you like Japan.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: I'd like, yeah.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, I don't see an upset happening there.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: I think Australia are too good, even though they haven't been great.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, maybe France are gonna show up a little bit.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: Um so the next uh women's tournament is in India, and that is England, India, Scotland, Korea, Italy, Uruguay, Wales, and Austria.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Now, Brendan said that he thinks England, Korea, India, and then Scotland or Uruguay will qualify.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: And he thinks with it being in Asia, the matches will favour the South Americans as well as the Asian teams.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, he's just laughing.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: Brandon is such a fucking idiot sometimes when he tries to be serious.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: Like, he makes more sense when he's not when he doesn't want to be serious than when he is serious.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Like, it's it's not like all the English like no one has played in India, like everyone has played in India at least 17 times because every tournament is in fucking India, so people know what to expect.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Even even fucking Austria has probably been to India, so it's not like this this big big climate and advantage they have.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: Uh uh, so but I don't think the climate or anything or or or having the shits has anything to do with it.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Everyone knows what they're going to get.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: Um probably England will will go through because they're the only one who know how probably the only one in this whole group who knows how to hold a stick.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: Um who are the other teams?
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: India are quite good, aren't they?
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: India were quite good.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: The Dutch coach is back at India.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Shoot Marina.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Okay, nice.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, I don't know if it's nice.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Okay, we'll see if it's nice.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't have a take on that.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: I think uh Brendan's probably right.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: I I'm not completely sure.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: But we've I gotta be honest, Brendan is the only one who who who really follows every bit of hockey there is, so he probably knows better than us.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: So I think we're gonna have to go with Brennan to say that India, England, and Uruguay are gonna qualify.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: And then the highest ranking, yeah.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: Uh the next men's group is a bit tasty.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: So it's France, Ireland, Korea, Wales, Scotland, Canada, Poland, and Chile.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: So only three are qualifying.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Um, well, it's all a bit complicated with the highest ranking, but Brendan reckons that um France, Ireland, and Scotland are going through, which means that Wales and Korea, especially like probably the two the two big ones, will miss out.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: Um he thinks that uh it's gonna be tight between Scotland and Wales to get out of the group, but I feel Scotland with the younger side might sneak it out of there.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: Depends a lot on Stroomwalker with the corners.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: And obviously, we don't have to start you off with Stroomwalker, do we?
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think Scotland is gonna be first in that group.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: They're gonna they're gonna fuck everyone up.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: France is also gonna get fucked by Scotland, everyone.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: France second.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: I think Korea will will be third.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: I do as well.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: I don't know much about Korea at the moment, but I do think I do remember them being pretty good.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: They always have this, like, especially against the lesser teams, they have this like really good setup and shit, and they'll probably they'll get through.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: So that means Wales and who else will fall out?
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: Uh Scotland or Ireland.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: No, Ireland, Ireland, oh Ireland's also pretty good.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Then I think France will fall out.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: I think it's Scotland, Ireland, and South Korea.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: France will be the will be all of a sudden like, oh what the fuck is happened?
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: And then they're like Yeah, after the summer I wouldn't mind that at all.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: No, they'll no, they'll they'll also make it.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: It'll be France.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: Probably Scotland won't make it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: I love Shrewd.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna go with Scotland, even though my gut says it isn't.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: No Scotland.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, you might wonder back home why we're talking about this.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: This is actually like incredibly like interesting hockey.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: When there's like something really meaningful on the line, when you watch these games, I do think that like they become really, really exciting.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Like any any Olympic qualifying um like tournament, any World Cup qualifying tournament, it just makes it super tasty, especially.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: So like I would I would very much uh tell you to to to tune into these games because like that group, especially, I have not got a clue who's going through, and I guarantee there's going to be some some good games on on show.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: Um the next is that actually that that group actually really is a good group.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Like there's like five teams who who really have like a chance of making it.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Like it's absolutely for sure.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: And then um the other group is in Egypt, and it is England, Malaysia, Pakistan, Egypt, Japan, Austria, China, and USA.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: So Brendan's USA, bottom of the bottom of the rankings in that one.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: And you know, he he did say he he gave me a little um a little quote about his, which is typical, Brendan.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: Um, what did he say?
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: It's here.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: He said, We are the underdogs with nothing to lose, so it'll be great to see where we are playing some good teams at the bare minimum, ranking points up for grabs and at the best a spot in the World Cup.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's it.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: You know what it is?
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: If anyone would have given this quote, you would have said, Oh, that's just a really good quote.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: It's like ESPN worthy.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: But when he says it, I can't take it serious.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: It's I'm so sorry, Brendan.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: It's a really good quote.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: It's like uh fair play to you.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: You're an idiot.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I mean, I think I think with this group, it's it's like I I've worked out that that with with us, it's it's we have to become in because we're the highest ranking team in the whole thing, we have to come top four to qualify.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: So all we have to do is make the semi-finals, which obviously means that you know if if something's happening there, then everything's wrong and everyone needs to retire and leave.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: Um then it does get pretty tasty though, because Pakistan have done had some.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, who knows if they're gonna make it to the to Egypt.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: Um, but if they do, they've had some some better results in the pro league and they've been playing good competition all year.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: Malaysia, yeah.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: I don't know what to say about Malaysia because they can either be they're very good in Malaysia, but when they travel, they don't tend to be as good.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: They probably have some like really skillful, really quick guys, but it probably will they will lack in in organization and they will lose uh 7-3 50% of the games.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Egypt are the second team in behind South Africa, but they always give South Africa a good game, so I don't think they'll be I don't think they'll be mugs, and then you've got like Japan who have recently played some team some games against New Zealand and lost 2-1 in a series to them, so I also think they will be okay.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Um my take would probably be England I'm gonna go England, Japan, and Pakistan.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I see that happening.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe maybe uh maybe like I think maybe Egypt sneak in with the with the No I think it will be uh Pakistan and Japan.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: No, but if there's a fourth if there's a fourth team that qualify because it's gotta be the highest ranking one, it depends how the results are.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm backing USA.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Aki Kepler will score seven goals in four matches.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: Love to see.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he'll be in disguise.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Um we have got some, yeah, some uh another another mini selection special is coming just after the break.

- 27:56SPEAKER_02: Right, we're back.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: Now um I I feel like I was feeling a little bit left out um that over the last couple of years you and Brendan got to do a um a D-selection special.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: So this is actually my turn.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: Um I I found out a week and a half ago that I haven't been picked for the for the World Cup qualifiers in Egypt.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: So not something I'm buzzing to do, I'm gonna be honest with you, Yupe, but I think we have to uh stay stay strong and loyal to the pod and uh and and come clean.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: So Yupe is gonna turn um question master or host for the next however long, which is terrifying in itself.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Um and we're gonna we're gonna talk some talk some shit.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: So first of all, who do you think should have not made it?
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: And who who should who should who took your place?
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: Which fucker took your place?
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: I don't remember this going like this for Brendan or your episodes.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: No, okay, let's first just give a general general feeling about it.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: Like you're 34.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Uh um I think that probably has something to do with it.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: I'm glad I get such brutal honesty already.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: Um uh they're taking 20 out to 20 out to Egypt, they've changed the the format of the of the team so you can sub in two each game or or something like that.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: Um so just got the we got a standard email and wasn't on the list, was on the reserves list.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: Um I think it's always pretty humbling with uh when you've got kids because I was just sat with them and uh and and they uh they obviously don't know or don't care.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: Um so you just you just kind of have to crack on.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, like I I obviously I think as a player you always think that you're you you you add value to the team.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: Or not always, I definitely didn't used to think that, but I thought I was adding a decent amount of value.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: I thought I'd I worked pretty hard to come back from injury um to to go to Valencia, but ultimately it's not my decision.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Was the was the coaches, and uh for this one they decided to go a different way, and maybe it is because I'm 34, but yeah, I I don't know what else to say about that.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: I think no, I'm just kidding.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: I think I think the age thing is just uh it's just uh it's just a number, it's it's kind of a a stigma in uh I think especially in hockey, to be honest.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: Like if you pass 30, uh all of a sudden you're old, even though you you you might still be in your prime.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: Um but I think you have been dealing with quite some injuries.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Is that like a is that a you think a reason the the they made the decision that you haven't really gotten the chance to prove yourself a lot?
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: Maybe, maybe.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: Um obviously missed the pro league in December, which was in Ireland, and then came back and had a had a rocky road back to fitness, but then yeah, I played the last three games out in the pro league.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: Um and um yeah, I would say that the good thing, like you already touched on it in the first part, was that like the team is playing really well, like we're starting to to tick and glue and like find uh find a different gear, which is which is obviously great, um, especially for the summer.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: And and competition is pretty pretty tough now.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: We've got a hell of a lot of good players and people playing well, so um you can never count your chickens.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: Uh you have to stay humble, I'm reckoning.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: And uh the the the only thing like maybe I sound like Brendan now.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: The only thing I can do now is like I can only control what I can control, so either decide to like throw my toys out of the pram and be super negative about it, or I can keep trading hard, like prove that I am adding value to the team and try and get picked for the for the pro league in in June.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: What is the what is the what is the I don't know how to say it?
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: What is the mentality right now?
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: Is it is it like because you can tell yourself I'm gonna be positive about it, or is there something in you that's like fuck them?
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think that you've got to use the m yeah, yeah, obviously.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: I think like you go into I'm going through waves, so you like you go through the waves of being like, Oh, I'm stay positive, I'll keep training hard, and then there's that wave of like, for fuck's sake, what we're like, why now?
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: Like, what did I what have I done?
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think I'm just trying to quieten that that voice down because uh that's that's not helpful, is it?
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: When you start feeling sorry for yourself, um, I know that that's not helpful.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: Like I already said, I have an unbelievable, um, unbelievably good distraction in my life, which is which is both of both of my children, which which they humble me every day.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: And uh Indy just randomly said to me yesterday that I've got really yellow teeth, so you just you just gotta kind of roll with these punches, you know what I mean?
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: Like like um so yeah, like I would say that the difference is is like I I didn't get picked for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I've ever said this on the pod, and I I like kind of didn't believe that I was good enough.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: Like I I was I thought that he could have gone with me for that tournament, but I didn't really like I ultimately thought like it's kind of fair enough.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: Um, and this one's a little bit different because I because I do believe that I'm kind of good enough, but uh at the same time I can't like you can't get you can't stay like focused on that because it doesn't matter ultimately.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: It's it's uh the coach's opinion versus yours, and it doesn't actually matter what yours is, you can only work to change that for the next one.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's also a bit the the like I always found and you can also use it, but that's how I that's how I always dealt with it, is that it's it's also like an easy um easy motivator to to to get better.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: If that makes sense.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Now you kind of have to it it's not about your own uh opinion anymore, it's also about uh the coach's opinions and now they they feel like you're not good enough right now, uh but you have been in the past, so it's like also an easy motivator to like push it into another gear and find another gear, and if you can't find it anymore, that's also an uh uh an answer, and you know your uh uh international hockey is not for you, but I feel like you're not done yet.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: So it's also like an easy easy motive, like the best moments of often come out of out of this because like now um I think I I think my I think Erik van Bohm said it to me once.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: He said, Yeah, uh when you're comfortable you stop learning.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a bit uh that's also a bit like a brand and take, but I it it it is true that when you maybe if you look in the mirror that you have gotten a bit comfortable and like oh yeah, uh you don't even you didn't even knew there was a selection, that's probably the moment where you stop beat peaking.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: So you could also use it as like motivation to yeah, and I and I think that's actually kind of kind of happen naturally.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Um because we I mean the one of the worst things I think about um not being picked is that is that you you you then have to you know like like carry on training like it's normal, yeah.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: And you have to do that like so.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: We did all week last week, we had a really hard training week before before the guys went.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: And you you're like I think it either goes one or two ways, and for me, it was did exactly what you said, and it like lit a fire under me um to to try harder and maybe find that extra gear that yeah, maybe maybe I have been, and I I don't know, it it's never felt like I have, but maybe I have been going through the motions a little bit in the last 18 months, and 100% this can be like the best thing for me.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: I also think that it's very lucky because it's a world cup qualifier in terms of like it's a it's a it's an important tournament, but you know, for yours and Brendan's circumstances, it was a it was a major, it was a world cup and it was an Olympics, and you know that's that's way harder than you know what I'm going through right now.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I think you're 100% right.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: And then this feels like we're we really need Brendan here because I've I've also been using this like comparison is the thief of joy.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: Do you do you you heard that before?
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it's like really I think it's really uh powerful because you just find yourself like comparing yourself to others and it's just unbelievably unhelpful.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: Um yeah you can yeah, and like what other people's strengths are not your strengths.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: So I think that's the the main focus moving forwards because I like you said, maybe if I didn't have that fire lit under me when this happened, then maybe it would just be time to knock it on the head.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: But thankfully exactly, thankfully the fire's still there, and we will see we will see how it goes.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: But I don't know how you feel about it, only shit thing is that you they're going off to a tournament which has a lot of value, but the tournament will not probably and don't want to like knock on wood for you guys, but like they'll probably won't get challenged as hard as they would in a regular pro league match even.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: Um so they'll probably come out uh with a lot of momentum, thinking they've they've done really well or they have done really well.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: Um which makes it a bit like what I always thought was the the the the the difficult thing in being not select is that uh yeah life goes on, their life also goes on, and all of a sudden it's like uh you've also had when you add it to them, it was someone was injured, someone's not there.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: The first week you're like, Oh, it's weird that uh Yup is not there, and the second week he kind of forgot he was he was ever there, you know what I mean?
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Like life goes on so quickly.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: Um I I have a massive case of FOMO with uh with everything in life, so especially with that.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: So that's that's what kind of struggle what I struggled with as well.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but if you you you are you what you said, you have like a great distraction at home, which makes it probably a bit easier.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's super helpful, but at the same time, I still get them like twangs of like you know, even yesterday I was I was um picking Indy up from school and I was driving there, and I was like, ah, if I got picked, I'd be packing right now.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: And then I was yeah, that's a bit rubbish.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: Um, and also like this sounds super soft, and definitely he doesn't listen, so it's okay.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: But I was pretty buzzing to see Brendan.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: Um don't he is he is like I mean, low-key, he's he's don't tell him, but he's he's a good friend of mine, and uh, he's moved away, so it would have been delightful to to actually see him again.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: Um, so that was actually on the other hand, you get to see me probably.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Ah, yeah.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, the they take with one hand and they give with another.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: And exactly, and maybe that's if you had to choose a hand, you choose mine.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: So let's be honest.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: 100% watching uh super bad with some popcorn under a blanket with you.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: I'm taking that every day of the week.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Um cross-handed wanking.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I reckon I reckon that kind of sums it up.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: I think I've said I've said my piece.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: I've tried to be as uh candid as possible.
- 39:24SPEAKER_02: But yeah, um you're a good question master.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: Maybe you should do this more often.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: No, I also think you should maybe uh stop uh like what if I could can I give you a tip?
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: Go for it.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: If you if you the moment you get back in training, uh stop being English.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Be be like go go fuck them.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: Tell them like don't don't be all yeah, and the coach could have because I did it as well, and you're like, oh yeah, the coach was right.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: No, fuck him, just show him drop Phil Roper once more, and I'll fucking drop you.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, David Ames, because he's also in the staff, fuck you, bring it to them, yeah.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: Fuck you, AJ.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think we do that in a very understated way, like exactly, yeah.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: Understated, but with a little bit like a like under the bell, like fuck you, you know what I mean?
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'll take that advice.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: That's that that was Phil David, not me.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: I love you, you know that.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, right, so I mean that was that was that was pretty pretty good, I I think.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: Um I'm gonna just read you so we've got some questions from Instagram you.
- 40:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, cool.
- 40:44SPEAKER_02: Um so so uh uh we got some questions.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I asked many questions, but but I'm gonna take the best ones out and then we'll we'll save from for future episodes as well.
- 40:57SPEAKER_02: Um this comes from Yash Borat 08.
- 41:01SPEAKER_02: Um, would Phil and Yupe pick up coaching post-retirement, maybe even amateur teams.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: Would you do any coaching after you retire, youp?
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: Um wouldn't rule it out.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Uh would rule out amateur teams.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: Uh that's beneath me.
- 41:18SPEAKER_00: Um but I would not rule out uh coaching.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't either.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't either.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: I actually already I've coached um Maidenhead women uh for a few years, so I I definitely wouldn't rule out.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: I like coaching.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: I don't I I am not beneath it.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: I I'd coach anyone.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Um, me neither.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: No, me, me, me not.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: I I would only coach like high quality players.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: I have this irrational confidence that I think I'd be an amazing coach.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: But I have I've I also think I could make it on the PGA too if I'd stopped hockey and tried now, so that's probably sums it up.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but that's what you're talking about.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: You need that irrational confidence, don't you?
- 41:57SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you just need to be, and then you just need the the you need to be humbled as well.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: So you just it's just like a constant up and down.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: But I genuinely believe I can be a really good uh whatever.
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: Um random these are random questions.
- 42:13SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, did Croft and UP have a scrap in Valencia and who won?
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Uh no, it's like it's it's because it's it's the it's the same old, same old, and now I was part of it.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: It's you're kind of head to head.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: He I knew for a fact he would not do anything.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: I think he even knew more of a fact that I wouldn't do anything, you're just there.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: And he was like, Uh, I think I held his stick when the game like I held his stick.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: We know you held his deck, you don't think you held his stick.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I held his stick, and he was like, uh uh stop fucking doing it or something.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: I said, uh I even said at one point, who the fuck are you, or something like that.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: Well, I I I definitely knew who who he was because I've had a couple jokes with him as well.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: But yeah, if nothing was gonna happen.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: I just felt for a second I felt like Billy Big Boss.
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: And I think he did this to you.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: Um, like is he did like cry baby, like no, he did it to uh Jogit, I think.
- 43:08SPEAKER_02: Ah, okay, he did that to someone else.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: He's yeah, okay.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: No, because I I actually had to sub in after at like half time, and he as well, and we stood next to each other, and then we kind of laughed about it.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, um, this is quite a good one.
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: That was from V Edwards 83.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: The the next one, um Ed Chan Chandler 08.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Most embarrassing moment in your hockey career.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: I've had a few.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: I've had a lot.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: I uh I forgot my shoes and shin pets to the Olympic qualifier in uh twenty nineteen, I think, against Pakistan where we drew the first game four four.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: I called uh uh not that long ago, 'cause it's twenty twenty nineteen, so it's like seven years ago and I called my mum if she could drop them off at the hotel.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: That's pretty embarrassing.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: That's not like that's like embarrassing, just like um inwardly embarrassing.
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: I I've I I thought I farted once during a game close to half time.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: It wasn't far.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: Play the second half with just normal boxers because my other one my like uh thermo shit was shit.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: Wait a minute we ever talked about that before yeah I think so.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Have you that have you that you did you like during the game you you ate a bit too much pasta or something like oh fuck it's a bit uh up there and you think I have to just that one big fart out so it's it's so the the stomach pain is gone and you you push it a little bit too hard and it's did you know that you pooed yourself in the moment sorry did you know that you'd pooed yourself in the moment yeah I knew something dropped like but it wasn't like poo it was like you know it was a shard feels it feels like you've took this really wow these are some proper embarrassing moments I really thought you were just gonna say where is the mole but that's oh that's also yeah that's probably oh thank you Philip yeah the I don't know if the everyone listened but let's let's just bring it up again uh the the the the the national broadcaster of of the Netherlands made a video of me um uh ruining the Dutch team from the inside during a tournament uh they made like this clip of me uh uh uh sabotaging with getting 17 corners against and three penalty strokes and getting three uh cards or something in four games so that was also quite embarrassing for the whole volume to see and what was even more embarrassing by then because I we spoke about it uh like uh during uh either Valencia or uh Argentina is that all of a sudden like you kind of want something to not gain traction but it got so much traction that there is actually like this Twitter uh hashtag that even was like trending for a bit where it's like uh we stand behind you or something um you know what I mean so it yeah it it got way more traction than I wanted it to get um with Moritz Fürste and Hauke and like uh all captains responding like uh we stand behind you and I was like oh now everyone's gonna see the video because everyone you know what I mean yeah they're like what's Morris First are talking about oh let's find this let's find this you de mort montage exactly oh yeah that was also a great moment in my career I think that's far enough away because that was like nine years ago now that's like far enough back that it's definitely funny now yes 2018 yes eight years ago yeah yeah that was that was I do remember that being like this is a bit mental because this is like outside it's gone like outside of hockey and yeah and then everyone's like yeah I think uh your co was it max caldas at the time like had to come out and like proper defend you and um you know what you know what the worst thing was the game after because I wasn't like I was playing a shit tournament but the game after I I think we played England or something for place seven or eight I I still didn't play a really good game like I just I just didn't play super shit that one game and I got the man of the match I he got like the the sympathy of the match the pain we'll probably never see this guy play hockey ever again let's just give the man of the match your voice he's he's had a bad time of it give him the give him the 250 quid just let him let him have this one well probably probably never play an international game ever again just give him the man of the match yeah and I yeah that was great oh and the Max Gull has posted this picture as well of me with the man of the match award and you see in my face when I hold the check you see that it's like oh I know I didn't deserve this but it's like a sympathy one yeah uh Jack if you're listening this is a clippable this is a clippable moment where you just get you with the with the the the man of the match award now to pop up back in his like really that was they were back in your really ginger days as well that was like yeah it all it all like because it also rains my hair was wet it rains and then it gets more gingery um I I don't think I can compete with them embarrassing moments I've just got like funny ones of like I've got this weird thing where it seems like I've had it twice in my career where one it became a a pretty big clip on Instagram of me like Harman Prix pushing the ball into me and me just like falling over with my feet looking like they've been tied together.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: And that that went yeah that got lots of views on Instagram and people kept reposting it and then tagging me in it which was kind um and then it this something which didn't which was very very similar happened to me where I like lost the ball against New Zealand a few years ago then I fell over um but I fell over in such a stupid style that I like tried to save it I like really tried to save it but I just stacked it and then they scored so it was like a good old triple whammy where it's like you've lost the ball you've then made a twat of yourself then they've scored and I was like yeah that could have gone better for me um but I might have a thing I've surely you never shit your pens or anything I I actually haven't mate no that's a show I feel like I'm quite rolling for my thoughts yeah never trust the fight uh we'll do we'll do one more hey um weird question actually no I'll answer this one quickly someone Finn tomo tompo 14 asked who smells the nice side of you and Brendan that is very easy um and and there is absolutely no comparison between this uh you smells a lot better or when he doesn't shit himself you smells a lot better than Brendan um I would say 99% of the time um no not not not a hundred hundred I smell I there's not there's not a lot of things there is a lot of things but uh I'm good at but like smelling I smell I I take a lot of uh pride in how I smell like I have good colognes I put deodorant on Brendan just forgets to shower for seven days in a row so um I'll take this one I can't find the question now but um I think someone asked how many how many under 12 players oh here you go Theo Gardner how many oh Theo our editor shower to Theo what a guy how many under 12 players on a pitch at once uh would how many under players players would have to be on a pitch at once to beat me Brendan and Yup in a game of hockey and a full size pitch normal rules in the game of hockey I thought let's bare knuckle we would step I think three or three bare knuckle fights probably still win yeah yeah if that big 12 year olds went true um okay let's see let's let's let's approach this from a from a from a from a logical and like from a really well thought angle 12 year old that's like um how good is he like I think let's say Brandon is worth two 12 year olds you your current form are worth like six 12 year olds I'm worth 16 so let's say let's say if I if I mean that is that is funny if I'm if I'm genuinely honest um I think it would be like north of 60 60 but you think we could literally pull their pants down and and literally just beat them you could just run past them but 60 is a lot on hockey pitch yeah yeah but this hockey pitch still pretty big and like you think you could just aerial the ball to me yeah fair yeah oh Brendan Brendan aerials it and I'm um yeah yeah I think so as well also if if we take away the empathy and take away uh like uh us being scared of hurting them and like if you get into the D just put your stick in your neck and hit it full gas at the goal I think we'd beat them easy I think like like 5060 is a fair assumption yeah because if you also if we if we if it's like also Luca and Indy somewhere in the in the the in the crowd then it's probably a bit different right but they're not 12 so that's there goes my point.
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah you know because I've been already already thinking like how to do this tactically is that you you and Brendan stand at the back right and you just don't let any goals in because I just fundamentally believe that you wouldn't let any goals in well you're both pretty dodgy defensively actually um yeah with the with both of your like 40 inch sticks like you just stick your stick on the ball like no one's gonna no one's gonna get around you and then you both just aerial the ball to me who is stood in the D.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: I think we put my my guess was more that we put Brendan in as a goalie because we need a goalie and then I just be at the back you up front I'll chuck aerials or I just run down the right hand side past them knee like on the way there knee a couple of them while running so knee a couple in the chest or in the in the face and then like that's it.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: Are there any hockey clubs out there that want to make this happen we can make a day of it that'd be I think footballers have done that before haven't they I feel like uh yeah they've always absolutely sorted them out but I mean this this is the uh we're coming to the end of episode seven it's been it's been as normal eclectic um it's been different uh it's been it's been delightful you thank you for turning question master we hope that we hope that you've enjoyed let's stick together episode seven any final words from you you yeah I don't want people because now I think it's like it's not that I shit my pants I just I I I I fought it on a little bit game width it's not like that big of a deal it happened to almost everyone on Hockey speech that's I just want to stress that not that people think I shit my pants during a hockey game well two thirds of Let's Tit Together regularly poo themselves you just you just we we know we know Brendan's history but um on that note we'll see you next time
