- 1:18Speaker 1: on I g at look Underscore Radio. Yes, so much,
- 1:23Speaker 1: so much to talk about today, um so in this
- 1:26Speaker 1: month of Local radio. We have been out and about.
- 1:30Speaker 1: We've been doing a bunch of gigs, UM recording a lot,
- 1:34Speaker 1: We've been busy building. It's been really great. So as
- 1:37Speaker 1: a recap, we want to think once again Joanna from
- 1:41Speaker 1: the Unapologetically Brown Girl series for when she was here
- 1:44Speaker 1: in l A. And she had a pop up and
- 1:47Speaker 1: a Q and A and she asked us to host
- 1:48Speaker 1: host it and it was amazing. There were so many
- 1:51Speaker 1: people that came out and it was really beautiful to
- 1:53Speaker 1: see so many Central Americans. It was a beautiful event.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It really support of her and like the connection that
- 2:02Speaker 1: they feel with Joanna as as a Central American. So
- 2:05Speaker 1: it was super super dope, super badass, So shout out also, UM,
- 2:09Speaker 1: we recorded a capitolo with cat Lazo, and we also
- 2:13Speaker 1: recorded a caplo with Amy Ki Cheese East Coast Mommies,
- 2:16Speaker 1: the both of them both Fanas and columbian Us. And
- 2:19Speaker 1: then when I'm from New York and from New York
- 2:21Speaker 1: right and then when actually when we recorded our capitolo
- 2:25Speaker 1: with Amy, cat Lazo did the videography, basically she was
- 2:29Speaker 1: teaching us how to use our new equipment. She really
- 2:31Speaker 1: was like, Okay, this is where this goes, this is
- 2:34Speaker 1: how this works. Thank you girl, you much chat and
- 2:38Speaker 1: Amy and Joanna, good times. We have so many you
- 2:43Speaker 1: know what this actually ties it and actually because to
- 2:46Speaker 1: the theme of sisterhood. Yes, that was touched upon not
- 2:50Speaker 1: only at the Unapologetically Brown series, but also like in
- 2:55Speaker 1: working with Cat and then also at the Martinez events.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So we were very lucky, very fortunate to be a
- 3:02Speaker 1: part of Councilwoman Nui Martinez's event called in Her Words
- 3:07Speaker 1: and it was hosted at l A City Hall and
- 3:09Speaker 1: it was a night of spoken word music, dance, poetry
- 3:15Speaker 1: and us. So it was super fantastic. We fancied and
- 3:18Speaker 1: we were able to you know, introduce the artists and
- 3:22Speaker 1: also engage in dialogue with the folks who were there.
- 3:25Speaker 1: The women that were there, majority of the attendees were women. Um,
- 3:28Speaker 1: so we asked them, you know, questions like we talked
- 3:30Speaker 1: amongst ourselves first about like what a sister had mean
- 3:33Speaker 1: to us, and then asking the audience what it looks
- 3:34Speaker 1: like for them. And one of my favorites was there
- 3:37Speaker 1: were these two women sitting in the front and they
- 3:40Speaker 1: said that one of them dated the other one's brother
- 3:43Speaker 1: and it didn't work out. So they were best friends
- 3:45Speaker 1: and also roommates, so they were like, that's a sisterhood
- 3:48Speaker 1: has been like for us. So that was one of
- 3:51Speaker 1: my favorite I love that, And you know what I've
- 3:53Speaker 1: heard of that before, right, Like that's not uncommon or
- 3:57Speaker 1: even sometimes date each other dating each other or or
- 4:01Speaker 1: like girlfriend plus the mistress, they end up having a
- 4:05Speaker 1: friendship that outlasts the actually do Anyways, that was cute.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Um knows. So like sisterhood was a big theme at
- 4:13Speaker 1: that in her words, events hall, it was a big
- 4:17Speaker 1: theme at the Unapologetically Brown event because that was basically
- 4:21Speaker 1: like we talked about the fact that like and Yessica
- 4:23Speaker 1: was there. Joanna Amy says, look like talking about how
- 4:28Speaker 1: everything that we've accomplished so far, like every stage we've
- 4:31Speaker 1: been on, any like publication or written piece that has
- 4:35Speaker 1: been published, any editor that has worked with us, like
- 4:37Speaker 1: a job that has been offered, like almost one percent
- 4:40Speaker 1: of them have been through a mohad through a woman
- 4:43Speaker 1: of color. Well even you know when working with UM
- 4:46Speaker 1: councilwoman Martinez. The reason that we were connected with her
- 4:50Speaker 1: is because a listener works in her office. She's a
- 4:53Speaker 1: part of her council office. So she reached out to us.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So it's also really amazing to see like our listeners
- 4:59Speaker 1: are are be aware their careers are like in every field,
- 5:04Speaker 1: and that makes me. That makes me super happy to
- 5:07Speaker 1: see our listeners or know their listeners are out there
- 5:09Speaker 1: like doing the damn thing and like in so many fields,
- 5:12Speaker 1: in city government, in production companies, different types of media, um, journalism, everywhere.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Listeners are in law school, they're all over the place, nonprofits, teachers, bars,
- 5:26Speaker 1: dispensaries everywhere everywhere. Yes, who, I'm already, I'm exhausted, I'm exhausted.
- 5:36Speaker 1: It is hiring being us, well, mama. She also taught
- 5:39Speaker 1: a self defense class earlier today before recording. This is
- 5:42Speaker 1: very true. This is very true. A little tired in Westlake,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and my favorite self defense classes to teach are always
- 5:49Speaker 1: always one of the time, the bilingual classes, the Spanish
- 5:53Speaker 1: speaking classes, because it's always senoras and um, this group
- 5:58Speaker 1: from the Westlake like neighborhood council organized it and so
- 6:01Speaker 1: like a lot of senor and like women, youth, young
- 6:04Speaker 1: girls from the community were there, and so it was
- 6:06Speaker 1: a bilingual class and they just are so funny, they're
- 6:09Speaker 1: hilarious and they really get into it. But then they
- 6:12Speaker 1: take like cheese my brakes in between, and it's just
- 6:16Speaker 1: it's great, it's it's a good time. So that was
- 6:18Speaker 1: my morning, which I love to do so I and
- 6:21Speaker 1: it's not uncommon for me to do a self defense
- 6:22Speaker 1: class before like a Saturday. So yeah, um, what else
- 6:27Speaker 1: did we have going on this month? Um, March was busy.
- 6:31Speaker 1: March was busy. What we had head and then you
- 6:33Speaker 1: took a little time off. We took last weekend off
- 6:35Speaker 1: because you had friends visiting, shouts out, We had a
- 6:40Speaker 1: little So I went to Tufts right for undergrad in
- 6:43Speaker 1: Massachusetts in Medford slash Summerville, Massachusetts. So um, we ended
- 6:48Speaker 1: up having a little Jumbo reunion and Tufts reunion. I
- 6:50Speaker 1: had a friend Tatiana Hey girl um flying in from Massachusetts.
- 6:55Speaker 1: My friend Roy Hey Roy flying in from Montana. And
- 6:59Speaker 1: then um other friend Jose who lives out in Pasadena,
- 7:02Speaker 1: and then Jimmila who's actually from d C but she's
- 7:05Speaker 1: studying at Stanford right now. We all happened to be
- 7:07Speaker 1: in the same area. Laney who's from west Lake as well,
- 7:10Speaker 1: so we all got together. We brunched. Um. We went
- 7:14Speaker 1: to Selena Techno Cumbia night. It was cute. It was
- 7:17Speaker 1: good time. So yes, yeah, that's really good. It was fun,
- 7:21Speaker 1: good good. You're like, good for you, girl, for you, bitch.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I'm a little like low energy. She's like, I'm glad
- 7:28Speaker 1: you had fun. I'm like, I've got one of us
- 7:31Speaker 1: is having fun, Jesus. So what else? Oh, we kind
- 7:38Speaker 1: of have a new little segment. We have a new
- 7:40Speaker 1: little segment. But if you're watching on the YouTube, I
- 7:42Speaker 1: wanted to say that Mom and I are wearing the
- 7:44Speaker 1: exact same shirt. Can we show the world? And it
- 7:46Speaker 1: was unplanned? Can we show the world usual? As per usual?
- 7:51Speaker 1: This is completely unplanned. Like I was walking across the street.
- 7:54Speaker 1: She was like getting the equipment out of her car,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and we're like, of course, yep, we're where the pink one,
- 8:09Speaker 1: which is cute. I like the pink So okay. So
- 8:14Speaker 1: had this great idea of talking about weird things the
- 8:17Speaker 1: white women did this week, and now I'm going to
- 8:20Speaker 1: have to keep tabs of like the things that I
- 8:22Speaker 1: hear and experience. Um, but I know you have something
- 8:26Speaker 1: to share, so share with us. Yes, so this week
- 8:29Speaker 1: on weird things white women did this week. So the
- 8:32Speaker 1: first thing that happened, Um, I was at perch with
- 8:36Speaker 1: Roy and Tatiana, right, because that's I love friends from
- 8:39Speaker 1: out of town. I always picked him take the perch,
- 8:41Speaker 1: have to it's an l a thing, gotta do it,
- 8:44Speaker 1: gotta do it, So take them to perch. And it
- 8:47Speaker 1: was like a Sunday afternoon, Saturday afternoon whenever, so it
- 8:50Speaker 1: was very crowded, no no seating areas. So there were
- 8:54Speaker 1: these like white women there in a group, and I
- 8:56Speaker 1: could tell that they're like white feminists who like spend
- 8:58Speaker 1: a lot of time on the internet, like they're you know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: we spent a lot of time on the internet. I
- 9:02Speaker 1: know who they are without knowing who they are, you know.
- 9:06Speaker 1: But anyway, so they have their little corner, they're taking pictures.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I think that we took a picture for them, and
- 9:11Speaker 1: then one of them, um and it was me Roy Tatiana.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I don't remember if my sister was there or not.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I don't think she was. But one of the ladies.
- 9:21Speaker 1: You know how there's little those little steps tools that
- 9:23Speaker 1: can kind of double as seats. So she was like, oh,
- 9:26Speaker 1: we're not using this, like you guys can go ahead
- 9:28Speaker 1: and use this, like if you want to sit on this,
- 9:30Speaker 1: And I'm like, okay, cool. Thanks, And then she looked
- 9:33Speaker 1: at me and touched on and she goes, yeah, you know,
- 9:35Speaker 1: when I see a woman of color standing, I say
- 9:38Speaker 1: to myself, here, rest, you need to rest here, have
- 9:42Speaker 1: a seat. Rest. Thank you, question Mark. That was my
- 9:48Speaker 1: exclamation for funds. I was like, do I think? Thank you?
- 9:54Speaker 1: And it was hilarious. So we all sit down and
- 9:56Speaker 1: I was like Roy, and Roy is a white man.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Roy as a white man. He's a white male from Maryland,
- 10:04Speaker 1: from Baltimore, Maryland. Met him in college. Good friend of mine,
- 10:07Speaker 1: love Roy. Um. Anyway, so I was like, Roy, did
- 10:10Speaker 1: you hear did you hear that? And he goes, I
- 10:14Speaker 1: thought that I heard it, but I didn't want He
- 10:17Speaker 1: was like, I thought it was something else. He's like,
- 10:18Speaker 1: I didn't want to think it was what it was.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Tatiana was like, no, I heard it. That's what she said.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I heard that ship. That's what she said. What she said.
- 10:24Speaker 1: So then the other weird thing that a white woman
- 10:26Speaker 1: did this week was today, right before we started recording,
- 10:29Speaker 1: I was in here just setting up, setting up, setting up,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and um, this blonde lady came in and I don't
- 10:35Speaker 1: know if she's going to like search the podcast and
- 10:38Speaker 1: listen to this and be offended later. I don't know.
- 10:40Speaker 1: But she came in and she started talking to me
- 10:42Speaker 1: in like very aggressive Spanish, but it sounded to me
- 10:45Speaker 1: super like it was Argentinian or like Chilean, because you
- 10:49Speaker 1: know how they do that all that stuff, like I
- 10:52Speaker 1: don't know how, I can't emulate it, but you know
- 10:54Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And she's being really aggressive in her delivery,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and I my Spanish is so shitty, like I'm the
- 11:00Speaker 1: il cha, like I'm speaking in Spanglish, like unabashedly, like
- 11:03Speaker 1: I don't speak good Spanish. I just don't, but I will.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I will speak it. I'll try. I'll communicate um. And
- 11:09Speaker 1: so I'm talking to her in my Spanish. And so
- 11:11Speaker 1: after a while she realized, like this bitch speaks English,
- 11:14Speaker 1: just you know what I mean, And so she starts speaking.
- 11:18Speaker 1: In my mind, I'm like, okay, she's gonna maybe be
- 11:20Speaker 1: like a Chilean lady and like she's going to speak
- 11:22Speaker 1: English in an accent or I don't know. But she
- 11:24Speaker 1: was a total Becky, like a complete Becky, like a
- 11:27Speaker 1: study abroad, you know what I mean. She was like
- 11:30Speaker 1: an American white lady, and it was very bizarre, and
- 11:33Speaker 1: you could just I could see the change in her
- 11:34Speaker 1: face where she was like, Oh, I'm embarrassed now, you
- 11:38Speaker 1: know what I mean. So those were weird things white
- 11:41Speaker 1: women did this week. Interesting. I'm exhausted m from that delivery.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I mean I have I've had like when I've been
- 11:49Speaker 1: here by myself and I get here setting up, like
- 11:51Speaker 1: I've had men come in here like really aggressive, like
- 11:54Speaker 1: listen to my music, Um, come to my show? Can
- 11:57Speaker 1: I put you on the list or like stuff like that,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and I'm like, leave me alone. And then they'll ask
- 12:02Speaker 1: what we do, and I'm like, we're a podcast and
- 12:03Speaker 1: we talk about feminism, and I usually won't make them
- 12:06Speaker 1: go away. There was one guy who was in here
- 12:08Speaker 1: and I and he was asking and I said, oh,
- 12:10Speaker 1: we talked about feminism, and he goes, she kind of feminism,
- 12:13Speaker 1: like with an expectation that that's the right type to
- 12:16Speaker 1: talk about. And I was just like, um, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 1: amongst other things, what's it to you? Interesting? Interesting? Anyhow? Yes,
- 12:31Speaker 1: a new segment we introduced here and there. Okay, so
- 12:35Speaker 1: now onto our regular segment. You don't know what it is.
- 12:41Speaker 1: This is a doozy of a question. Yes, a question
- 12:46Speaker 1: we have noticed that we had at least four or
- 12:49Speaker 1: five messages of this theme. So I wanted to I
- 12:52Speaker 1: wanted us to answer it because somebody almost be really
- 12:56Speaker 1: going through some ship. Yeah, and you know, I feel
- 12:59Speaker 1: for y'all. So the question is, how do you deal
- 13:03Speaker 1: with your partner cheating on you? How? Okay? So, um,
- 13:10Speaker 1: I had a situation with cheating. I've had multiple situations
- 13:14Speaker 1: with cheating, and I have um usually done as much
- 13:18Speaker 1: research as I can, gathered as much info as possible ready.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I will always have my intel already. I will never
- 13:26Speaker 1: approach dude or significant other um without a full armament
- 13:32Speaker 1: of knowledge, evidence, receipts, fact checking. By the time I
- 13:37Speaker 1: come up to you and ask you what's going on,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I already know what the funk is going on. I
- 13:43Speaker 1: probably have already spoken to third party. Most likely I've
- 13:49Speaker 1: already established contact with third party and had a whole
- 13:52Speaker 1: interview and had a whole conversation. So that's how I've
- 13:57Speaker 1: dealt with it, is by arming myself with information in
- 14:00Speaker 1: because love is a fucking battlefield and we're at war, bitches,
- 14:04Speaker 1: and we're constantly at war. So that's in the past.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I've gone up and I've been like, hey, you know,
- 14:12Speaker 1: are you in love with someone else? Are you seeing
- 14:15Speaker 1: someone else? Are you sleeping with someone else? Very straightforward.
- 14:18Speaker 1: These are yes or no questions with yes or no responses.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Keep it as simple as possible. If you're giving me
- 14:25Speaker 1: extra explanations and extra this and extra that, and you're
- 14:28Speaker 1: over compensating, and please like you know, like I already
- 14:33Speaker 1: know the truth. Now I'm asking you just to see
- 14:36Speaker 1: if you're gonna lie to me at that point, because
- 14:38Speaker 1: I already know the answer. I'm just testing to see
- 14:40Speaker 1: if you're a fucking liar in addition to every addition
- 14:44Speaker 1: to being a cheater, are you also a liar? That's
- 14:46Speaker 1: how I deal with a cheating partner. Um, I would
- 14:49Speaker 1: say to just take care of yourself. Like, however you
- 14:53Speaker 1: decide to deal with the partner, you know, that's your decision.
- 14:57Speaker 1: But what's most important is like you and your your health,
- 15:01Speaker 1: your physical health, your mental health. I know that when
- 15:03Speaker 1: I get your physical health really stressed out, I stopped
- 15:07Speaker 1: eating um, and I will I'll lose weight and I
- 15:11Speaker 1: just becomes a mess. I get UM. I also get
- 15:15Speaker 1: like a really dry mouth when I'm anxious and stressed.
- 15:18Speaker 1: So I try to drink a lot of water, and
- 15:20Speaker 1: that just in general makes you feel like at least
- 15:22Speaker 1: you're drinking, at least your hydrated, your body is still Um. Yeah,
- 15:27Speaker 1: and I would say try your best to eat, even
- 15:28Speaker 1: though you probably don't have an appetite. Um, granola bars, smoothies,
- 15:32Speaker 1: things that are you know, are light you can keep down. Yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 1: that's good advice. That's good advice. Um. And you know,
- 15:39Speaker 1: I like, UM, I've read articles and stuff about there's
- 15:43Speaker 1: this fascination with ghosting, right, which is ghosting people have
- 15:47Speaker 1: always ghosted and just you know, just not responded and
- 15:50Speaker 1: just left it alone and just disappeared. Some people will
- 15:54Speaker 1: just pack up quietly, cut ties, leave, it's over. You
- 15:58Speaker 1: know what you did? You know you did. That's valid too.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Why give any more of your energy over to somebody
- 16:04Speaker 1: who is giving their energy elsewhere and letting you waste
- 16:07Speaker 1: your time, encouraging you to waste you know what I mean. So, however,
- 16:10Speaker 1: it is that you do it as long as you're
- 16:12Speaker 1: centering like your health and your safety. You know, do
- 16:17Speaker 1: what you have to do, what you gotta do, take
- 16:19Speaker 1: care of you. Your relationship with yourself is the most
- 16:22Speaker 1: important one. Oh, every time one hundred percent, So shifting
- 16:28Speaker 1: gears a little bit, um, we wanted to do. We
- 16:30Speaker 1: thought this would be a good opportunity to go over
- 16:32Speaker 1: some housekeeping um around the podcast the podcast. Um, this
- 16:38Speaker 1: has been coming up in conversation with our listeners. UM,
- 16:42Speaker 1: and we're gonna get more into detail with that, but
- 16:44Speaker 1: we want to put out that you know, in one year,
- 16:47Speaker 1: we've been around for a little over a year, right,
- 16:49Speaker 1: a year in a year in change, and um, we
- 16:53Speaker 1: went from just being like this little project to it's
- 16:56Speaker 1: really grown like exponentially, and I think we we also forget,
- 17:03Speaker 1: um how much it's grown because we work on it.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Not that we work on a daily, but like there's
- 17:09Speaker 1: things that we have to do daily, right, like posting
- 17:11Speaker 1: an episode and then engaging, engaging with comments, right and
- 17:15Speaker 1: doing all those kinds of things when you have a platform.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Um that we're still learning. We're still learning like how
- 17:21Speaker 1: to manage it, especially with the both of us and
- 17:23Speaker 1: our jobs and all of that other good stuff. Yeah. So, UM,
- 17:26Speaker 1: what we want to make more solidified is as this
- 17:30Speaker 1: becomes more of a thing, and as this becomes more
- 17:34Speaker 1: of a situation, like let me explain, Like we have
- 17:37Speaker 1: realized that when we go out, like we get recognized
- 17:41Speaker 1: just on a realistic level, Like I was walking down
- 17:44Speaker 1: Sunset and this has happened now more than once. I
- 17:46Speaker 1: was walking on Sunset and somebody shouted my name from
- 17:49Speaker 1: their car. I went to Scam and Jam with Yessica
- 17:53Speaker 1: and she posted a video of me in her story,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and Yessica got a response to her I G story
- 18:01Speaker 1: from a mohead who works at a boutique down the
- 18:04Speaker 1: street from my house, because that mohead was the cashier
- 18:07Speaker 1: who sold me the dress that I wore in Yes
- 18:09Speaker 1: Becau's I G story. So she I had bought this
- 18:13Speaker 1: dress from her from the boutique like four hours before
- 18:16Speaker 1: Scam and Jam, and she was like, oh, I sold
- 18:18Speaker 1: that dress to that girl. So when I tell you that,
- 18:20Speaker 1: like this is becoming like a little bit, it's getting
- 18:23Speaker 1: like we can't go anywhere honestly without being recognized because
- 18:26Speaker 1: Ellie's big, but it's also small. Well, Also the spaces
- 18:29Speaker 1: that we go to, the places that we're at, it's
- 18:32Speaker 1: very likely that our a listener will be there. Like
- 18:34Speaker 1: when we went out to lunch with Cat two weeks ago. Yes,
- 18:37Speaker 1: we were having lunch and the listener was so sweet
- 18:39Speaker 1: she approached us, and then she ended up coming to
- 18:41Speaker 1: the unapologically Brown Girls series pop up afterwards, right before
- 18:45Speaker 1: we recorded this, several mohettas that actually work with and
- 18:50Speaker 1: for the treas and they're organizing events and they're also listeners.
- 18:55Speaker 1: They like said hi to me at Monica. And it's
- 18:58Speaker 1: because we actually are in the unity that we engage
- 19:01Speaker 1: in and that we talk about like and that we
- 19:03Speaker 1: spend time in, like it's one in the same, Like
- 19:05Speaker 1: we're really out here, so we get you know what
- 19:07Speaker 1: I'm saying. But so we're realizing that we are more
- 19:11Speaker 1: of a presence and more of a responsibility than we
- 19:14Speaker 1: had ever anticipated, which means we need to be more
- 19:17Speaker 1: formal with some things like are informal, like boundaries and
- 19:21Speaker 1: rules and regulations and protocols. We now want to put
- 19:24Speaker 1: them out there formally and like even written and like here,
- 19:29Speaker 1: so that our listeners kind of can gauge and know
- 19:32Speaker 1: like what to expect from us and how much UM
- 19:35Speaker 1: to expect from us UM on any given day. Our
- 19:40Speaker 1: d M requests are at about fifty yes, so on
- 19:44Speaker 1: the look at Instagram alone, and we have our own
- 19:46Speaker 1: personals and I have like over eight thousand on mine,
- 19:49Speaker 1: and and uh, you also have I don't know your
- 19:52Speaker 1: account on yours almost almost seven thousand. I have right now,
- 19:56Speaker 1: like thirty d M requests in my personal Yeah, I
- 19:59Speaker 1: have about twenty five. Um So, I guess the point.
- 20:03Speaker 1: The point is not like, oh, nothing like that, but
- 20:06Speaker 1: it's like sometimes we don't get back to messages, and
- 20:08Speaker 1: not because we don't want to, but we just don't
- 20:10Speaker 1: have the capacity to answer every single thing. Um so,
- 20:13Speaker 1: And why don't we have the capacity? We don't have
- 20:15Speaker 1: the capacity because of our jobs. We work full time,
- 20:18Speaker 1: because of our real lives are not are not that
- 20:20Speaker 1: this isn't our real life, but like our day to
- 20:22Speaker 1: day lives, right, our relationship mandatory lives are yeah, exactly
- 20:26Speaker 1: mandatory lives. So if there's something ever that's depressing, don't
- 20:34Speaker 1: send it as a d M, Please send it as
- 20:36Speaker 1: an email. Loocal thought our radio at gmail dot com.
- 20:40Speaker 1: We really just do not read our d ms. We
- 20:43Speaker 1: really do not respond to them. We just can't um
- 20:46Speaker 1: and our emails the way that we handle communications. We
- 20:52Speaker 1: are a united team and that means that especially like
- 20:56Speaker 1: when we're we're responding to listeners, we want to make
- 21:00Speaker 1: sure that we're together and that we both approve of
- 21:02Speaker 1: the language and the message, and that we truly are
- 21:05Speaker 1: crafting emails together. We're both writing them are responses. We
- 21:09Speaker 1: live far away from each other. We record every other Saturday,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and so Saturdays that we record end up being our
- 21:16Speaker 1: sit down work all day, not only on the three
- 21:20Speaker 1: plus hours of recording video, but also social media events, bookings, emails,
- 21:27Speaker 1: Like we're doing all of it in one sitting because
- 21:31Speaker 1: otherwise we're working, like me in particular, and I just
- 21:36Speaker 1: and again for the sake of transparency and getting to
- 21:38Speaker 1: know us and like, you know all of that. Like, um,
- 21:42Speaker 1: I work crazy hours. I work emergency response. We're first responders.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I work on call, and on any given week, I
- 21:49Speaker 1: could be on call like overnight, eight hours during the day,
- 21:54Speaker 1: in the mornings running around answering hotline calls, you know,
- 21:58Speaker 1: Like I have crazy hours. Us that works a more
- 22:01Speaker 1: traditional schedule. I have a traditional schedule. Um, but I
- 22:05Speaker 1: also work directly under someone, meaning if she needs me
- 22:09Speaker 1: to go do this, I'm going to be out and about.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I'm going to be in the field doing that. So
- 22:13Speaker 1: there are times where I'm I have downtime and I'm
- 22:15Speaker 1: at the office and I can reply to emails quickly
- 22:18Speaker 1: when it's regarding UM kind of like, hey, are y'all
- 22:20Speaker 1: available this day? And I can be like, I can
- 22:22Speaker 1: look at our calendar and say yes. But when it's
- 22:25Speaker 1: something that requires both of both of our inputs, then
- 22:27Speaker 1: I leave it unmarked so that it doesn't get lost
- 22:31Speaker 1: and so that Mal and I can look at it
- 22:32Speaker 1: together and respond appropriately. Appropriately. Um So, yeah, I mean
- 22:37Speaker 1: at this point, like some the average average reply time
- 22:41Speaker 1: would be two weeks, and like I said, sometimes it
- 22:44Speaker 1: can be really quick depending on my schedule because I
- 22:47Speaker 1: am at the office, so I do have more leeway
- 22:49Speaker 1: that I can answer emails and sometimes not, Like the
- 22:52Speaker 1: last two weeks, I was in a training um, a
- 22:55Speaker 1: thirty five hour training UM to be certified as a
- 22:59Speaker 1: direct support professional. Um So, like, there's stuff happening, right jobs,
- 23:05Speaker 1: jobs can there's always something happening at your job, right,
- 23:08Speaker 1: So anyway, so yeah, like some days, some days, like
- 23:12Speaker 1: like I said, our email response can be quick and
- 23:13Speaker 1: some days it's not, And we just want that to
- 23:15Speaker 1: be a disclaimer for the future. Yeah. So, um So,
- 23:19Speaker 1: as far as what y'all can expect from us, you know,
- 23:21Speaker 1: we have our curious cap Please submit questions there, like
- 23:24Speaker 1: if you have a question that needs answering, that's where
- 23:27Speaker 1: we go to look at the questions that need answering,
- 23:30Speaker 1: you know, like especially any questions that you would like
- 23:33Speaker 1: to be answered on air on the podcast Curious Cat
- 23:36Speaker 1: right um, and then emails right if that's anything as
- 23:41Speaker 1: far as like a concern or a note that you
- 23:43Speaker 1: really want us to see if it's time sensitive, like
- 23:46Speaker 1: if you need a response, you know, please email us
- 23:49Speaker 1: look at our radio at gmail dot com with that
- 23:51Speaker 1: on the subject line, if it's like priority or like
- 23:54Speaker 1: you know what I mean, yes, just because realistically, you know,
- 23:58Speaker 1: we cannot get to our emails every day and we
- 24:01Speaker 1: cannot respond to them when we get Just just the
- 24:04Speaker 1: other day, MoMA and I and I saw it yesterday.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Mom and I were invited to uh an exclusive like
- 24:08Speaker 1: film screening on Thursday, and we didn't see it until Friday.
- 24:12Speaker 1: We have literally missed job opportunities, paid opportunities. We have
- 24:17Speaker 1: missed multiple opportunities, and that's on us to figure out
- 24:21Speaker 1: a better system. Right now, we just don't have it.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Like I'm sure a lot of our listeners who are working,
- 24:26Speaker 1: who are students who have multiple jobs, who are running
- 24:29Speaker 1: around like all day every day and exhausted like you know,
- 24:32Speaker 1: because we know who our listeners are, like you're like us,
- 24:35Speaker 1: you know. But anyway, so yeah, all that to say,
- 24:38Speaker 1: like these are sort of our protocols, um, when it
- 24:41Speaker 1: comes to communicating emails, curious cat. If it's a d M,
- 24:45Speaker 1: we probably are not going to get to it realistically,
- 24:48Speaker 1: you know. Um. So we try our best. Um, we
- 24:51Speaker 1: do our best. Um, we can always do better, but
- 24:54Speaker 1: please bear with us. Yeah, thank you for being patient
- 24:57Speaker 1: with us. Yeah, well, let's go into our song right now,
- 25:02Speaker 1: or castera belly Rosa Rara and and and and and
- 25:08Speaker 1: and and and and and and and and and and
- 25:14Speaker 1: and and and and and and and belly rang and
- 25:23Speaker 1: and and send Elly rang and and and and belly
- 25:29Speaker 1: rong and and and and from from from from of
- 25:44Speaker 1: it and share. Okay, yes, that's a good song. Be careful.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I hope you get what you're looking for basically, basically, basically,
- 25:59Speaker 1: I hope you get everything that you're looking for. Yeah,
- 26:02Speaker 1: Karma is going to get the partners, Yes, yes, absolutely. Anyways, um.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Any who, so we're back from our little break and
- 26:13Speaker 1: we wanted so we're introducing lots of little new segments. Right.
- 26:17Speaker 1: So the one that we just did was right, like, um,
- 26:22Speaker 1: ways that white women were weird this week? Right? Um?
- 26:26Speaker 1: And then we also want to introduce a new concept
- 26:29Speaker 1: and a new segment, which is basically like times that
- 26:31Speaker 1: we were ways that we were problematic this week, or
- 26:33Speaker 1: ways that we were problematic this month or whatever, you know,
- 26:36Speaker 1: for like the sake of having an ongoing conversation with ourselves,
- 26:41Speaker 1: ongoing conversation with our listeners about like you know, like
- 26:44Speaker 1: always being self reflective and being self aware and recognizing
- 26:49Speaker 1: where we're stepping on other people, other people's toes or
- 26:53Speaker 1: other people other people where we're not like holding ourselves
- 26:56Speaker 1: accountable and not being like the best that we can
- 26:58Speaker 1: be in those ways. So yeah, here's a way that
- 27:02Speaker 1: we were problematic. It So we're nervous, but it's not
- 27:06Speaker 1: about us. It's not about that, but it is about us.
- 27:10Speaker 1: But yeah, right, so we were problematic, and we were
- 27:14Speaker 1: problematic in multiple ways. And I want to say, for
- 27:17Speaker 1: full transparency, um, what happened, like the timeline of the events. Right,
- 27:22Speaker 1: So we worked with a photographer recently, and I want
- 27:27Speaker 1: to say that she will she will be renamed, she
- 27:29Speaker 1: will be she will not her name or her her
- 27:33Speaker 1: I G handle right now, we don't have hers, don't
- 27:36Speaker 1: have her consent and share if you've noticed, not on
- 27:39Speaker 1: our Instagram, not in our recordings, like we don't share
- 27:42Speaker 1: like names or handles of like any listeners or community
- 27:46Speaker 1: members like as as far as a call out sence, UM,
- 27:49Speaker 1: we just don't do it. It's just not something that
- 27:51Speaker 1: we practice. However, there is a listener UM or an
- 27:57Speaker 1: Instagram follower, but she did consent to for to use
- 28:00Speaker 1: her name, and her name is Malacca UM and her
- 28:03Speaker 1: IG handle is afre fm a f r a fm UM.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And she reached out to us because of photographer that
- 28:10Speaker 1: we recently worked with, UM down in their timeline has
- 28:14Speaker 1: a photo and she's wearing individual braids, which we know
- 28:19Speaker 1: is a hairstyle originated by and for black women. So
- 28:24Speaker 1: the photographer, I mean the listener, Malacca, she damned us
- 28:29Speaker 1: and basically said, like I saw this. I tried engaging
- 28:33Speaker 1: in a conversation with her, and she blocked me, and
- 28:38Speaker 1: it was really hurtful. You know, can y'all talk to
- 28:41Speaker 1: this person because you've obviously worked with her, UM, she's
- 28:44Speaker 1: obviously a member of your community. So I think that
- 28:48Speaker 1: you know, I would like y'all to talk to her,
- 28:49Speaker 1: And we were completely open. We had not seen that
- 28:52Speaker 1: picture before, to be completely honest, um, but we immediately
- 28:56Speaker 1: looked for it, and our immediate thought to rectify the
- 28:59Speaker 1: situation was to invite Malaca on the show to you know,
- 29:02Speaker 1: discuss her work, discuss you know, appropriation of hair, cultural
- 29:06Speaker 1: appropriation in general, especially by non black latinos of black culture,
- 29:11Speaker 1: right right right, so um. And in addition, we said
- 29:15Speaker 1: that we would reach out to this person and we
- 29:18Speaker 1: would talk to her to the photographer, to the photographer,
- 29:20Speaker 1: and so we would talk to her individually, right. Um.
- 29:24Speaker 1: We funked up in the sense that we were defensive. Yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 1: we tried to um because what we said was that like, um,
- 29:35Speaker 1: which is true, but it didn't it wasn't necessary information
- 29:39Speaker 1: in the context of the conversation. But what we said
- 29:43Speaker 1: in our our first communication with her, like our response
- 29:48Speaker 1: to her DM was that and by the way, like
- 29:52Speaker 1: seeing the DM, we were like, oh, like, well this
- 29:54Speaker 1: we don't respond to our d m s really, but
- 29:56Speaker 1: this seems like a really important one that we should
- 29:59Speaker 1: respond too. So we chose to like actually like engage
- 30:02Speaker 1: and respond to it. And so we said, like, you know,
- 30:05Speaker 1: like we haven't like we don't do extensive like checks
- 30:10Speaker 1: about on like our collaborators, and that people who collaborate
- 30:14Speaker 1: with us, like as far as like artistically, if we
- 30:16Speaker 1: see that there's sort of like well this, you know,
- 30:19Speaker 1: if we see that they're sort of in the community
- 30:21Speaker 1: and they're around and they're involved, like we're comfortable working
- 30:24Speaker 1: with Like we work with people all the time, Like
- 30:26Speaker 1: people reach out to us like in different ways, like
- 30:29Speaker 1: to record on the podcast or to do a project
- 30:31Speaker 1: or to do an event, and we we will quite
- 30:32Speaker 1: often say yes because we um give people really the
- 30:36Speaker 1: benefit of the doubt and we are open to working
- 30:39Speaker 1: with new people who are around, so especially when they're
- 30:42Speaker 1: associate associated with a group, with an organization that we've
- 30:45Speaker 1: worked with or we respect or that we really care about. Yeah.
- 30:49Speaker 1: So um a Laca basically explained to us that these
- 30:55Speaker 1: the communication was problematic in the following ways, right, that
- 30:58Speaker 1: like we were as ventially like attempting to distance ourselves
- 31:02Speaker 1: from this particular photographer, like to not claim responsibility or
- 31:06Speaker 1: not to act on it, and then like assuming that
- 31:08Speaker 1: like Malacca wanted like a call out or like a
- 31:11Speaker 1: public like whatever which she didn't ask for, right, But again,
- 31:16Speaker 1: we want to put out there, like we have been
- 31:20Speaker 1: talking about ourselves here in our space like call out
- 31:25Speaker 1: and UM online call out culture for a minute now,
- 31:30Speaker 1: especially in light of like our last episode with Bella Donna,
- 31:33Speaker 1: which that was the entire focus of it, and sort
- 31:36Speaker 1: of like our informal like method of dealing with that
- 31:41Speaker 1: has always been like we just don't do it, UM,
- 31:45Speaker 1: but we haven't made that like a formal public like
- 31:48Speaker 1: solidified like known UM piece of how we interact with
- 31:53Speaker 1: that instagram, Right, So we made the assumption that that
- 31:57Speaker 1: is basically what she was after, even though she never
- 31:59Speaker 1: or not that we made the assumption, but we like
- 32:01Speaker 1: stated like this is our boundary. However that was she
- 32:04Speaker 1: never implied that. So I think it was problematic in
- 32:06Speaker 1: that way that that was one of our first reactions
- 32:09Speaker 1: or not reactions, but replies. UM. I also wanted to
- 32:12Speaker 1: be clear, like we do not condone appropriation of black culture,
- 32:17Speaker 1: of black women's of black women's hair, like that is
- 32:20Speaker 1: never okay. I want that to be clear, and I
- 32:23Speaker 1: regret that that was not one of the first things
- 32:25Speaker 1: that we said, like I'm sorry that this person UM
- 32:29Speaker 1: treated you this way, I'm sorry that it was harmful
- 32:31Speaker 1: to you for this reason, and like this isn't how
- 32:35Speaker 1: can we help? And that was the approach that we
- 32:36Speaker 1: should have taken, um, And that is where we fucked up. Um.
- 32:41Speaker 1: After those the initial instagram d M, s um Alaka
- 32:44Speaker 1: wanted us to she wanted to move over to email,
- 32:47Speaker 1: so we gave her our email. She emailed us a
- 32:50Speaker 1: few days later. UM, and we saw the email and
- 32:54Speaker 1: we made a mental note like to each other, you know,
- 32:57Speaker 1: like let's reply to this, you know, when we have
- 33:00Speaker 1: when we have it, when we have some time when
- 33:02Speaker 1: we sit down and we can sit down and actually reply. Um.
- 33:06Speaker 1: We let a little over two weeks go by. Yeah,
- 33:09Speaker 1: so at this point, UM, it appears that we're ignoring her.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It appears that because she was not happy with our
- 33:17Speaker 1: response because it was problematic, right, like that we were
- 33:20Speaker 1: just going to like kind of wipe our hands clean
- 33:21Speaker 1: and walk away, like all right, this isn't really our
- 33:23Speaker 1: problem anyway. That was never the case for us, But
- 33:26Speaker 1: that was the impact of our actions. UM. And that's
- 33:29Speaker 1: something that's really important to talk about when we're talking
- 33:32Speaker 1: about ally ship, is that we can have really good intentions,
- 33:35Speaker 1: but when you're not actually acting on them, the impact
- 33:38Speaker 1: can be really harmful and it can be really negative. No,
- 33:41Speaker 1: of course, like you have to act, you have to
- 33:45Speaker 1: actually put out effort um. And so our issue is
- 33:50Speaker 1: like multifaceted. It's like trifled if you will, um. So,
- 33:55Speaker 1: like we have to be better about like making our
- 34:00Speaker 1: elves as available as possible within our like our limits
- 34:07Speaker 1: um to like respond when there are sort of community
- 34:11Speaker 1: level issues that have to do with the podcast. Because
- 34:14Speaker 1: let's be very clear, like in our Los Angeles community,
- 34:17Speaker 1: we are like what we said before, like we are
- 34:20Speaker 1: very available to a lot of people all the time,
- 34:23Speaker 1: like out here in these streets and like again like
- 34:28Speaker 1: I'm available, you know what I mean, Like work wise,
- 34:31Speaker 1: like we are always like responding, responding and like putting
- 34:35Speaker 1: out fires and handling traumas and different things because we
- 34:38Speaker 1: are actual community members with responsibilities and families and all
- 34:42Speaker 1: of these things. Now as far as the podcast and
- 34:45Speaker 1: our podcast community and our online community and people that
- 34:49Speaker 1: we don't you know, convene with every day in real
- 34:52Speaker 1: life and that we don't have they're not coworkers, they're
- 34:55Speaker 1: not um neighbors, they're not family members, but they're still
- 34:58Speaker 1: a part of a community, and I think we have
- 35:00Speaker 1: to sort of like figure out how to better center
- 35:05Speaker 1: this podcast world and this podcast community that very real
- 35:09Speaker 1: people and they're very real like histories and you know,
- 35:12Speaker 1: feelings and things are a part of it. Does that
- 35:15Speaker 1: make sense? Doesn't make sense? Well? I mean and I
- 35:18Speaker 1: think that because because of what this conversation is about, right,
- 35:22Speaker 1: because what Malacca reached out to us about, what how
- 35:25Speaker 1: we should have handled, um, the conversation with the photographer, right,
- 35:29Speaker 1: that should have been top priority for us. Obviously not
- 35:32Speaker 1: something that we could do like at the snap of
- 35:34Speaker 1: a finger, but we should have scheduled a time or
- 35:37Speaker 1: we should earn for transparent transparency purposes. We should have
- 35:40Speaker 1: let Malacca know, like we're really swamped right now, we've
- 35:43Speaker 1: read this email, we will get back to you than
- 35:46Speaker 1: a week. We'll get back to you on this day,
- 35:48Speaker 1: like know that we are going to talk to this person.
- 35:51Speaker 1: So by us not being transparent, um it, you know,
- 35:55Speaker 1: it seemed like we were ignoring her, which was the
- 35:58Speaker 1: last thing that we ever wanted to do. Um. So
- 36:00Speaker 1: then what happened after Well, so then we got a
- 36:04Speaker 1: number of well you personally got a number of d
- 36:07Speaker 1: M s and on your personal contacts and then we
- 36:11Speaker 1: as a podcast on the look I thought a Gmail
- 36:14Speaker 1: got a number of emails from different like community members
- 36:17Speaker 1: and like especially listeners, and I would say like friends
- 36:22Speaker 1: of Malacca and also friends of yours like personal friends,
- 36:25Speaker 1: right right, Well, the in my experience, the firm community
- 36:29Speaker 1: is um, there's there's a lot of online activity, right,
- 36:32Speaker 1: There's like a group page for like firms of color
- 36:34Speaker 1: in l A. So there's there's a lot, there's a
- 36:36Speaker 1: lot of things. There's a lot of communicating happening, you know.
- 36:39Speaker 1: So I feel like that's that's what happened in this case,
- 36:42Speaker 1: which I'm also like super proud of in a way
- 36:45Speaker 1: because of like the way that community mobilized for one person, yes,
- 36:49Speaker 1: you know, and like to hold us accountable for our
- 36:52Speaker 1: actions and our inactions, you know what I mean? And
- 36:54Speaker 1: that really is what community is about, that we hold
- 36:56Speaker 1: each other accountable. Right Yeah. So basically, UM, they were
- 37:02Speaker 1: basically letting us know that they were amplifying like malaccas
- 37:06Speaker 1: um uh communications with us so that we would prioritize
- 37:09Speaker 1: responding UM. And so like by the time that most
- 37:14Speaker 1: of those emails had gotten into us, we had already
- 37:17Speaker 1: responded to Malacca and like sent our response to her,
- 37:20Speaker 1: and so we let everybody know, like we've responded. Um,
- 37:23Speaker 1: we've reached out to the photographer, which again from the
- 37:27Speaker 1: beginning was always our stated goal and intention and plan,
- 37:32Speaker 1: and we did and we have multiple times. UM, and
- 37:35Speaker 1: we haven't heard back, and we haven't heard a response back,
- 37:38Speaker 1: but we've invited like a conversation via text, via phone
- 37:42Speaker 1: call in person. Um. The podcast is always an open
- 37:46Speaker 1: forum like for anybody and everybody to come on and
- 37:49Speaker 1: talk within reason. Um. And so you know, like we
- 37:52Speaker 1: still love this person and we still want to have
- 37:55Speaker 1: conversations with this person, and like we have no desire
- 37:59Speaker 1: to like vilify or like burn bridges or anything like that.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Like that's not my goal. UM. So yes, right, and
- 38:08Speaker 1: you know if she's listening, this photographer is listening. UM,
- 38:11Speaker 1: you know, I hope that you check in with us.
- 38:13Speaker 1: I hope that you give us all. It's these kinds
- 38:17Speaker 1: of you know, when you're you're basically checked, right, you
- 38:21Speaker 1: you're being checked by multiple people, Like it can feel
- 38:24Speaker 1: personal or it could feel like you're being um, like
- 38:29Speaker 1: you're you're just you're being called out. I mean essentially
- 38:31Speaker 1: like you know, and but know that it's like it's
- 38:35Speaker 1: so much larger conversation right about like anti blackness in
- 38:39Speaker 1: the Latino community, right, like black Latinos appropriating black culture.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Like it's yeah, there's there's a one specific person that
- 38:47Speaker 1: did this, but it's also speaks to a larger issue
- 38:50Speaker 1: in our community, right, So it's like exactly exactly. So
- 38:55Speaker 1: you know, if you're listening, you know, I hope that
- 38:58Speaker 1: you check in with us, talk to us, and you know,
- 39:02Speaker 1: so we can unpack this together. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely So again,
- 39:07Speaker 1: if you would like to ask a question, especially a
- 39:09Speaker 1: question that you would like to be answered or has
- 39:11Speaker 1: a chance of being answered on the podcast itself, UM,
- 39:15Speaker 1: please hit the curious cat If you have anything related
- 39:20Speaker 1: to like collaborating, working together concerns, like you want to
- 39:25Speaker 1: hold this accountable for something or point out an issue. Um,
- 39:28Speaker 1: the recommendation is to send us an email look at
- 39:31Speaker 1: our radio at gmail dot com. Um, we cannot work
- 39:34Speaker 1: according to any specific person's timeline to let us know
- 39:39Speaker 1: if it's like, um, you know, time sensitive and we
- 39:43Speaker 1: can you know, do our best to try and respond,
- 39:46Speaker 1: but don't expect anything shorter than a two week response
- 39:49Speaker 1: and generally generally generally speaking, and I think that it
- 39:52Speaker 1: would be case by case, right, It's a case by
- 39:55Speaker 1: case basis, like in this in this instance, now after
- 39:58Speaker 1: having had this experience, now we're developing more of like okay,
- 40:03Speaker 1: we have to discern and make time. Yeah, and it's
- 40:06Speaker 1: as this has really been a learning lesson for us
- 40:10Speaker 1: UM for so many reasons, like we've already stated. And
- 40:12Speaker 1: I would like to reiterate an apology to Malacca for
- 40:17Speaker 1: you know, not prioritizing the conversation that she was really
- 40:22Speaker 1: trying to have with us UM and also Um, I
- 40:25Speaker 1: want to respect all the emotional labor that she has
- 40:28Speaker 1: done in engaging with the photographer, in engaging with us
- 40:33Speaker 1: and corresponding with us. And you know, we have extended
- 40:36Speaker 1: an invitation for her to come onto the show, so
- 40:38Speaker 1: she actually will be on the show April, which is
- 40:40Speaker 1: a Saturday. So I'm really looking forward to hearing more
- 40:44Speaker 1: about her work. I know she does dopest stuff in
- 40:46Speaker 1: the community. She's um in the Bay so she does
- 40:50Speaker 1: like Bay Area things, but she's also like out here
- 40:52Speaker 1: in l A from time to time. So her Instagram
- 40:54Speaker 1: is at afra FM a f R a f E
- 40:57Speaker 1: m M E. Um, so give her a follow. Um,
- 41:01Speaker 1: she does really great work. And yeah, we're really excited
- 41:04Speaker 1: to have her on in the future. Yeah, and thank
- 41:05Speaker 1: you for um, you know, coming on the show and
- 41:09Speaker 1: for checking us and for engaging in the conversation. And
- 41:13Speaker 1: we look forward to working with you and to meeting you.
- 41:15Speaker 1: And um, yeah, I'm continuing continuing to continuing the talk. Right.
- 41:22Speaker 1: And you know, one thing that Malacca did say in
- 41:24Speaker 1: one of the follow up emails that we had is that,
- 41:26Speaker 1: you know, she wants us as Local Thought Radio to
- 41:29Speaker 1: be you know, vulnerable in this process of accountability for
- 41:33Speaker 1: the hurt that we've caused in the hurt, the and
- 41:34Speaker 1: the and what we've condoned, right, and that that is
- 41:37Speaker 1: our that is what we're trying to do by discussing
- 41:40Speaker 1: this goal and and yeah, and I think it's also
- 41:44Speaker 1: a testament as to like, Okay, we do have a
- 41:46Speaker 1: larger platform than we sometimes even realize. Yeah, it's a
- 41:50Speaker 1: little bit scary, to be honest with you. Well, I
- 41:53Speaker 1: think for me personally, like I see our platform and
- 41:56Speaker 1: I see it growing, but then I see it on
- 41:58Speaker 1: the scale of like our friends, like let's I guess
- 42:00Speaker 1: you got for example, and I'm like, oh, we're a baby,
- 42:03Speaker 1: We're still relatively small, but then these things happen and
- 42:06Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, no, okay, we do have some type
- 42:10Speaker 1: of um responsibility as a platform. It's that balance, right,
- 42:14Speaker 1: because it's that balance between just being very like realistic,
- 42:17Speaker 1: like realistically, these are the numbers that we're dealing with.
- 42:20Speaker 1: This is the number of people, These are the number
- 42:22Speaker 1: of messages, This is the number of times that we're
- 42:24Speaker 1: being reached out to or we're being recognized. And then
- 42:27Speaker 1: there's the you know, like be like, don't get a
- 42:33Speaker 1: big head, don't think too much of yourself. So when
- 42:36Speaker 1: we say like, look like we're really not we don't
- 42:39Speaker 1: have that kind of power, We don't have that kind
- 42:41Speaker 1: of reach. It's true on the one hand, when our
- 42:44Speaker 1: accounts are still in the negative every single month, you know, like,
- 42:50Speaker 1: how much power do I have when my account is
- 42:52Speaker 1: in the negative every month? You know what I mean?
- 42:54Speaker 1: There's that, but you're learning, it's learning but also recognizing well, no, like, yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 1: the platform is a platform. The reach is the reach.
- 43:02Speaker 1: It is there, but what is the extent? That's something different?
- 43:08Speaker 1: What do you mean to the extent? The reach is there?
- 43:10Speaker 1: But with the extent of the reach. Oh, I see
- 43:12Speaker 1: what you mean. I see what you mean. You know
- 43:13Speaker 1: right right? Well, I mean, like we said, this is
- 43:16Speaker 1: the learning learning, a learning process of journey. I mean
- 43:19Speaker 1: the podcast in general, right, but this in particular has
- 43:22Speaker 1: been a learning experience as for like accountability and transparency
- 43:26Speaker 1: and like how we can be better allies to black
- 43:28Speaker 1: fems because you know that is women of color and
- 43:34Speaker 1: black women are and fems or who we center in
- 43:36Speaker 1: this podcast. So you know, again moving forward, like we
- 43:41Speaker 1: would like to, we want to be actively be better
- 43:43Speaker 1: allies to black women in black fems. Yeah, absolutely, so
- 43:47Speaker 1: thank you for listening and for the patients and for
- 43:50Speaker 1: the working with us. Yes, yes, yes, believe it or not,
- 43:57Speaker 1: Like we wanted to make sure that we like handled
- 44:00Speaker 1: a whole situation like appropriately, like with everyone's best intentions
- 44:04Speaker 1: in my believe it or not, believe it or not
- 44:07Speaker 1: believe it or not? Okay, okay, okay. Announcements. So next
- 44:13Speaker 1: time on look at that our radio join us again.
- 44:16Speaker 1: UM in April, we have a lot well, just like
- 44:19Speaker 1: in March we had a lot going on, in April,
- 44:20Speaker 1: we have maybe even more going on. Um. So first
- 44:24Speaker 1: we have a few different events. We have the Lovely
- 44:28Speaker 1: Ladies of Let's Give, which is one of our favorite
- 44:31Speaker 1: local youth led grassroots like UM organization's nonprofits. Um So
- 44:38Speaker 1: Moranita and Dandy Mandy are going to be coming up
- 44:41Speaker 1: on April. They're recording with us April seven. April seven,
- 44:46Speaker 1: they're recording with us and we are working with them
- 44:49Speaker 1: for a tribe called Culture, which is April. So they'll
- 44:52Speaker 1: be discussing that more in depth UM next Saturday, Saturday.
- 44:58Speaker 1: They'll be our guest next Saturday. Yes, so we're gonna
- 45:01Speaker 1: be fem C's will be from C's UM for the
- 45:03Speaker 1: evening the talent portion, I believe UM, and it's gonna
- 45:07Speaker 1: be in the in the I was gonna stay in
- 45:09Speaker 1: the bay in the South Bay UM of l A.
- 45:11Speaker 1: So we'll keep you all posted on those details. Like
- 45:14Speaker 1: I said, they'll be discussing the following week. UM, we
- 45:17Speaker 1: are going to post the flyer. Post the flyer. We
- 45:19Speaker 1: are going to be back at UC Santa Barbara, my
- 45:22Speaker 1: alma mater, on April on Friday for the DOT conference
- 45:28Speaker 1: and we will be doing a keynote. So if you're
- 45:30Speaker 1: in Santa Barbara, come through say the conference. Yes, UM
- 45:36Speaker 1: and then we're gonna be at USC twice in April.
- 45:39Speaker 1: So on April tenth, we are going to be there
- 45:43Speaker 1: on campus leading a workshop. UM. I believe we're gonna
- 45:47Speaker 1: be talking about our multidimensional health concepts, which was one
- 45:50Speaker 1: of ours, one of our early cups that we have
- 45:53Speaker 1: to revisit again we have to go back to. So
- 45:56Speaker 1: that's April tenth at USC. Also at USC, we're gonna
- 45:59Speaker 1: be leading a fem Defense workshop on April seventeen, so
- 46:03Speaker 1: we're gonna be all over the place. We'll be recording. UM.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Make sure that you're sending us questions to a Curious
- 46:09Speaker 1: Cat for future oya looka segments. UM. We hope that
- 46:13Speaker 1: you enjoyed our Looks on location from Vive La Mohead
- 46:18Speaker 1: And just so you know, if you want to bring
- 46:20Speaker 1: less Looks to your location, hit us up, email us. UM.
- 46:24Speaker 1: As far as like covering events, conferences, you know, whatever
- 46:29Speaker 1: the situation is, film screenings, because we need things to
- 46:33Speaker 1: talk about on the podcast, and we have the ability
- 46:35Speaker 1: to go out and record more mobile interviews and street interviews,
- 46:39Speaker 1: so invite us, hit us up and we'll bring ourselves. Yeah. Well,
- 46:44Speaker 1: thank you for listening to another installments of local radio,
