Latest / Cultural Wars | America Out Loud News / From homeless to $70 million, Bob Schober’s $400,000 generosity challenge
Transcript
- 0:07You are listening to The Hidden Lightness on America Out Loud Talk Radio.
- 0:11I'm your host, Jimmy Hinton.
- 0:13Well, I have a really cool story, and it's a rags to riches story, and it's not so much about the story of homelessness to riches, but it's about what this gentleman is doing with his riches.
- 0:30It's a really cool story.
- 0:32And the guy's name is Bob Schober.
- 0:35Bob Schober is a roofer in Mesa Arizona.
- 0:41And he recently started doing a big giveaway.
- 0:46In fact, I I think he just started this in December.
- 0:51And he began with $30,000 and encouraged other wealthy people to kick in.
- 0:58And he wanted this to spread.
- 0:59And by the year's end, he wanted to give away 400,000 to people.
- 1:06And this was to celebrate his move from homelessness to 70 million dollars in sales.
- 1:16Last year was his roofing company's largest year ever, their most productive year.
- 1:22It's a really cool story, and I celebrate this story because this is what America is all about.
- 1:31And I I can't overemphasize how much opportunity is sitting right at our fingertips here in America.
- 1:40And it really truly is, unlike any other nation in the world.
- 1:48I'm friends with people who live in third world nations.
- 1:53Who they have talents and abilities and different gifts, different spiritual gifts, and they just don't have the opportunity to make money and to monetize that like we do here in America.
- 2:09And we really do have a built-in exceptionalism that was created by our founders.
- 2:18And this year, as we celebrate our 250 year anniversary, I think it's worth celebrating that we live in a nation that's that's free.
- 2:29We're a free nation.
- 2:47Anything that we can dream up, we can we can monetize it and make a pretty good living doing that.
- 2:55And I think that's worth celebrating.
- 2:56I I think that's such a fantastic thing, and it gives me hope because I don't like this.
- 3:08And I'm not pointing fingers at people, I'm not blaming people.
- 3:13Uh, oftentimes we are products of our circumstances, and it's easy to manufacture hopelessness and to think that all is lost and that things will never get better.
- 3:26And especially if we surround ourselves with people who are like-minded, that they believe things will never get better, that people are always against us, the system is always rigged against us.
- 3:41I just don't, I don't like that mentality because I don't believe it.
- 3:46Though there is a lot of corruption, there is a lot of government corruption.
- 3:54Uh I'll talk about this in in a separate show.
- 3:57I think it deserves its own space, but the whole bizarre thing with Christy Gnome's husband cross dressing and sending uh pictures of himself cross-dressing and promoting groups that that do breast implants for men.
- 4:19Like you can't get any more bizarre than this stuff.
- 4:24And that's coming from the Republican Party that touts Christianity and and and loathes uh the push for transgender uh surgeries on on kids, and it's just so much bizarre stuff happening in the government right now.
- 4:43I can't even begin to wrap my mind around it.
- 4:45It's so bizarre, and this is why I am not gonna get into bed with the government.
- 4:50I'm not gonna praise the government and talk about what a fantastic job they're doing.
- 4:54It's there's so much corruption.
- 4:59But with that said, with that said, I don't believe that we're targets of the government, at least generally.
- 5:09Now, we could make a different argument for taxes, right?
- 5:13Uh we we could say that we're all targeted by the government for taxes because that's such a scam for the most part.
- 5:22I mean, there's so much waste, but at the same time, look at all the benefits that we have.
- 5:27We have uh we have roads, I can get in my car, and I can drive anywhere in the United States on paved roads.
- 5:39We have the infrastructure.
- 5:41I it's I'm free to do that.
- 5:44You and I are free to do that.
- 5:46So there are a lot of benefits that come with our our government and the way that it's structured, but there's also a lot of corruption and a lot of waste.
- 5:56But with that said, I don't buy into this mentality that they're out to get us, that every step we take, they're gonna knock us back 10 feet, and it doesn't matter what I do, I can never get ahead.
- 6:08I don't buy into that mentality because number one, I just don't like I don't like being a victim.
- 6:16If somebody does something to me and somebody hurts me in some way in some capacity, that gives me motivation to rise above that and to basically uh shove it in their face and show them that they're not gonna keep me down.
- 6:33I'm gonna dig my heels in.
- 6:35That's just my personality.
- 6:36I understand not everybody has that personality, but I don't like being a victim of other people.
- 6:44I don't want them to have that power over me.
- 6:48And so I'm the kind of person that I'll dig my heels in because I believe in exceptionalism.
- 6:54I believe we live in a nation where everybody has tremendous opportunity to serve, to bless uh, even people living in poverty, they have the ability to bless other people.
- 7:06That's why I highlight these shows day or these stories rather, day after day after day on this show.
- 7:15I show that I I like to demonstrate that it doesn't matter where you where you fall on that socio-economic ladder, so to speak, we all have the God-given ability to bless other people, period.
- 7:35And that motivation for me anyway comes from the scriptures where I see people living in poverty uh who are doing tremendous things to bless other people.
- 7:47I I see the woman, the the poor woman who put her last mites in the plate, these tiny little coins worth in today's dollars fractions of a penny, which ironically doesn't exist anymore.
- 8:09We stopped minting the penny.
- 8:13But it was monetarily speaking, it was worth nothing.
- 8:19But it was the last money that this woman had, and she puts it in the plate, and Jesus is just kind of watching people.
- 8:27He's off in the corner, and he's watching people put money in the plate, and he sees this woman, this widow put the last of her money in this plate, and he's emotionally moved by that.
- 8:43And he said, I this woman gave more out of her poverty than the people who gave out of their abundance.
- 8:53And it's this idea that we see in the scriptures over and over and over again.
- 8:56It doesn't matter how much or how little you have.
- 9:02What matters is that we give.
- 9:34Or they'll say things like, I don't have much money at all.
- 9:38I only have a couple dollars, but I wanted to give.
- 10:00Have a lot to show for.
- 10:02And they're still given five bucks here, two bucks there.
- 10:06And some people will be like, well, that's all they gave.
- 10:09It's not very much money.
- 10:11You're missing the point.
- 10:13When people give collectively, and when people give contagiously, it motivates other people to give, and those numbers add up tremendously.
- 10:27I mean, look at some of these GoFundMe's.
- 10:29I've I've posted some that have that have topped over a million dollars.
- 10:36And some of the top donations, because it'll list it on the GoFundMe.
- 10:40It'll list the top donations.
- 10:41And sometimes the top donation will be like a thousand or two thousand dollars.
- 10:48And then from there, it just goes down.
- 10:52So you're not talking like one person that's given 500,000 to steed these crowdsourcing um platforms.
- 11:03It's just thousands and thousands of ordinary people given ordinary amounts and are given what they have.
- 11:11And that's what makes America so great.
- 11:17I mean, name me.
- 11:20Name me five other countries that have that spirit of giving that have that ability to give.
- 11:30I just don't see it.
- 11:33You don't see it.
- 11:35There's something inherently built into the fabric of the DNA of America that just makes people giving.
- 11:46People love to give.
- 11:49And the irony is that the worst the economy does when we have times that that are um that are bad, where people are struggling, times of high inflation.
- 12:04That's when you see more giving.
- 12:07The numbers go up, they don't go down.
- 12:09You would expect them to go down.
- 12:11You would expect people to clinch their money and uh to not let go of it.
- 12:18But it's the opposite.
- 12:20I mean, I would expect that.
- 12:22I would expect people to tighten their belt and uh to be like, you know, I would love to help, but I just can't.
- 12:28But instead, what we see is there's this spirit of identification.
- 12:34They identify with people who are struggling because they themselves are struggling.
- 12:40And therefore, they open up their purse strings and they let the money flow into the pockets of other people, willingly.
- 12:50And that's what's so great.
- 12:51You know, communists, they just take it from you.
- 12:54Socialists, they just take it, they just tax you.
- 12:58They're like, we're gonna take it whether you like it or not, because that's that's the right thing to do.
- 13:03That's never the right thing to do.
- 13:06It's never the right thing to do to rob the will, the free will of people to be able to give out of the abundance and goodness and kindness of their own hearts.
- 13:20It's never the right thing to do to steal money from people, or to pressure the money from people in the way of taxes.
- 13:32It increase that to give back to quote unquote to give back to the poor, because we we we know full and well that that's not where the money goes.
- 13:41We should know by now that politicians are crooked.
- 13:47Yeah, it's like Trump's nickname for Hillary Clinton, crooked Hillary.
- 13:52We know that politicians are crooked.
- 13:55We know that a fraction of the tax dollars that that we give, a fraction of that actually goes to people living in poverty.
- 14:07It goes to things like pork, pet projects.
- 14:12Uh, all that stuff was uncovered with Doge.
- 14:17I mean, there was a lot that was uncovered with doge, a lot of fraud.
- 14:22I just recently read a report from the OIG office of Inspector General, and it was a look into another federal department, and uh like they got a big slap on the wrist.
- 14:36This other federal department that's part of the DOJ, they got a big slap on the wrist, and they basically got put on the naughty list because they've been disappearing money, taxpayer money, our money.
- 14:53They're like, all this money's not accounted for, and it's not going to the people who it's supposed to go to.
- 14:58And uh, where in the world is it going?
- 15:00So the OIG gave them a scathing report.
- 15:07And this is happening all the time within the federal government and the state government and local governments.
- 15:14They're all the same.
- 15:17So, you know, I I don't number one, I don't look to the government to be our savior.
- 15:23I it can't be.
- 15:25By design, the federal government cannot be our savior.
- 15:31But number two, I don't look as the federal government, I don't look at the federal government as somebody who's um targeting us because they've got nothing better to do, and so they're gonna pick Jimmy Hinton, and you know, um they're gonna make his life hell.
- 15:48I just don't I don't believe it.
- 15:51I believe that we live in a nation where as flawed as our government is, as corrupt as our government is, we still live because of our constitution, our great constitution.
- 16:02We live in a country of opportunity.
- 16:05That's why everybody's trying to move here.
- 16:09And so the uh nine-figure roofer, what is is what he calls himself.
- 16:15That's his social media, TikTok and Facebook, YouTube.
- 16:20His name is Bob Schober, and man, is he making a difference in the world?
- 16:26It's such a cool story, and um, man, on so many different levels, and I love this because you have everything that makes the hidden lightness shine is all wrapped up in this story.

- 19:42Bob Schober of Pro West Roofing in Mesa, Arizona.
- 19:47He it truly is a rags to riches story.
- 19:50And he did something incredible back in December.
- 19:54And he's still doing it to this day.
- 19:56Like I think for him, it became such an addictive.
- 20:00Thing uh in a good way.
- 20:02Um I'm all about healthy addictions, uh, but I think it became very fulfilling.
- 20:08Uh maybe fulfilling is a better word than addictive.
- 20:12It became fulfilling for him to give money away.
- 20:15And he truly is like uh like a modern day Santa Claus, and he's just giving money away to random people, some are random, sometimes he gets people to uh to tell him who somebody is who's in in need on a like maybe it's a city block or uh he pulls in a parking lot and and will ask people, hey, do you know of anybody who's really struggling?
- 20:40So he gives a lot of money away, but he's doing that to celebrate his company, his roofing company, pro-west roofing, his company reached $70 million in sales.
- 20:56Now, you want to talk about opportunity here in America.
- 20:59All right, let's just talk about opportunity for a second.
- 21:04Don't tell me that people who are living in homelessness are stuck in that cycle forever, that they'll never get out.
- 21:11Don't tell me that.
- 21:13I don't believe it.
- 21:16I think people have plenty of opportunity.
- 21:20That there's this whole thing about well, you're privileged in America.
- 21:24The left loves that narrative.
- 21:25You're privileged, must be nice, right?
- 21:29It's that mentality.
- 21:30Must be nice.
- 21:35Uh complaining whiny voice there.
- 21:38Must be nice.
- 21:40You're privileged.
- 21:41You don't know what it's like to not grow up with privilege.
- 21:47No, you're probably right.
- 21:48I don't, but other people do, and I witness it over and over and over again.
- 21:53I know people, I have friends in my life.
- 21:55I have good friends who didn't grow up privileged, like I did, you know, according to their definition of privileged.
- 22:06They didn't grow up privileged.
- 22:10And they are doing quite well for themselves.
- 22:16I don't want to put anybody on the spot, any of my friends, because I didn't really get permission to tell their stories, but um, I'm thinking of one in particular, uh, actually quite a few, but I'm thinking of one in particular that uh they both husband and wife did not grow up privileged.
- 22:37And let me just tell you, they're doing quite well for themselves.
- 22:43We'll just leave it at that.
- 22:45Uh, not only are they not hurting for money, I don't care what they do or what the economy does, or any of that stuff, they will never hurt for money for the rest of their lives.
- 22:58They're set, they're doing quite well for themselves, and they don't have parents who are wealthy.
- 23:06In fact, quite the opposite.
- 23:11They they and here's what separates people like Bob Schober, like my friends.
- 23:19Here's what separates them from other people.
- 23:22They actually believe that there's opportunity in front of them.
- 23:26They believe in the goodness of America, they believe that we have opportunity.
- 23:32They believe that if you work hard and if you stay focused, that eventually God is gonna bless that.
- 23:40Now, other people, non-religious people call that manifesting.
- 23:45Jim Carrey is a case in point.
- 23:46Uh, I think Jim Carrey is one of the clearest examples.
- 23:49His story is actually really cool.
- 23:51Um, he gets under my skin in in certain ways, but uh but who doesn't?
- 23:59Uh he is very outspoken, uh, very, very bizarre guy, very strange.
- 24:07But uh then again, people who are wildly successful are typically pretty strange people, just generally.
- 24:16And and that's okay.
- 24:18I'm not saying that as a judgment, I think it's awesome.
- 24:22Uh Jim Carrey obviously is a very, very talented actor.
- 24:26I love his movies.
- 24:29Um, I think he's just he's fantastic, but he he tells a story about how he was living in poverty.
- 24:39I mean, he he was poor.
- 24:40Dude was poor.
- 24:43And he wrote himself a check.
- 24:48He he wrote a check for 10 million dollars.
- 24:50Now keep in mind, he was he was a struggling comedian.
- 24:56Uh it really reminds me of Steve Harvey.
- 24:58Steve Harvey was living in his car uh for what three years.
- 25:02Uh, his story is absolutely incredible, too.
- 25:06But Jim Carrey was very poor, very, very poor, struggling as a comedian, wasn't really getting noticed.
- 25:12But he wrote himself a check for 10 million dollars, and and I've heard him talk about this several times in interviews, and he's like, I knew for sure I was getting that money.
- 25:25I didn't know how it was going to happen, I didn't know when it was gonna happen, but I wrote myself a 10 million dollar check, and he still has that check to this day, by the way.
- 25:36He wrote it and he hung it on his wall.
- 25:40And he put in the memo line acting services rendered.
- 25:46He dated it for Thanksgiving of 1995.
- 25:52He kept the check in his wallet to visualize its success.
- 25:58And not long after he landed the role for Dumb and Dumber.
- 26:03Now, uh kind of an interesting story about Dumb and Dumber.
- 26:06That movie was rejected by a lot of people.
- 26:10They thought it was stupid, they thought the plot was nobody would like it.
- 26:14It was dumb.
- 26:15Uh, there were quite a few pretty famous actors who turned they turned the roles down, even minor roles in that movie.
- 26:22They turned it down because they were like, we just don't like it.
- 26:25It's stupid.
- 26:28So Jim Carrey took the role and uh initially, I think this was the movie initially.
- 26:37They only got paid, he got paid like a few hundred thousand dollars, and uh they later adjusted that because the movie just like it took off, absolutely took off.
- 26:51So Jim Carrey, ironically, landed the role for Dumb and Dumber and brought in the exact amount that he had written a check for 10 million dollars.
- 27:05He ended up making 10 million dollars off of that movie.
- 27:10And uh he said he wasn't that surprised.
- 27:14Like it, he's like, I knew.
- 27:17I knew it was gonna happen because there was no other option.
- 27:23As my one like my one son likes to say, there is no plan B.
- 27:29This is it.
- 27:32Uh acting was going to be what made him a multimillionaire, and he knew he was going to get there, even though he had experienced failure after failure after failure after failure, years of failures.
- 27:45And this is what makes America so great.
- 27:48Again, try to do this in Haiti.
- 27:52Try to do this in Guatemala.
- 27:58Try to do this in Venezuela.
- 28:03You get the point.
- 28:06This is what makes America so great.
- 28:08And so the story really is about celebration.
- 28:10It's about the fact that we can be extremely poor.
- 28:17And we have opportunity to become wealthy.
- 28:21It's up to us.
- 28:24And if we don't become wealthy, this is where I might catch some some heat for this.
- 28:31But nine times out of ten, it's our own fault.
- 28:35And I'm I'm pointing fingers at myself here.
- 28:39You know, I look at years of my life that I wouldn't say I struggled financially, but uh really could have been building wealth on even the little bit of income that I made, and I just didn't know how.
- 28:57And that's again, it's why I wrote the book.
- 28:59I wrote the book, Tithing Your Your Time, excuse me, time, treasure, and talent.
- 29:07And it's about and the whole premise behind the book is that we off of a little bit of income, we can build wealth.
- 29:16And I'm now building wealth uh very quickly, actually, and have zero debt.
- 29:24And I'm only in my mid 40s.
- 29:28And we didn't do this.
- 29:29My wife and I didn't do this on these incredible incomes.
- 29:33Uh 70 million dollars is not uh I'm sorry, I I just uh I don't know that I'll ever see that.
- 29:39I'm okay with that, but um, I just uh I don't have the business brain to be able to start a roofing company or a company that's gonna bring in 70 million dollars.
- 29:55But some people do, but we all have the ability.
- 30:00To get a job, if if if that's your thing and you just want to clock in and just work in an ordinary job, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 30:07Nothing in the world wrong with that.
- 30:09People look down on that and they're like, oh well, you're only you're only making 15 bucks an hour and you're flipping burgers and so what?
- 30:19Don't ever look down on people, ever.
- 30:24For working any job because they don't make enough money.
- 30:30You know, we need to help each other out.
- 30:32And uh so that's the whole premise behind the book.
- 30:35It's that we can take the treasure that God gives us, and we can build that into bigger treasure.
- 30:44And if we tithe, we give 10% of our time, 10% of our treasure, 10% of our talent.
- 30:51We do that to bless other people.
- 30:52God blesses that he truly does.
- 30:56He really, really does.
- 30:59So I love everything about this story.
- 31:02What Bob's doing is he's taken the celebration of reaching 70 million dollars in sales from the roofing company, and he's blessing other people.
- 31:13So I'm gonna play you a clip because this is really powerful.
- 31:17I want you to hear the interaction, and this is why he's going so viral.
- 31:22People absolutely love myself included, love Bob Schober.
- 31:27He's authentic.
- 31:29He's not primarily a social media influencer, he's just a businessman who's blessing other people.
- 31:37But listen to this one interaction, and this can be replicated.
- 31:41I mean, over and over and over again.
- 31:43But it's just it's really cool, really powerful.
- 31:48Ma'am.
- 31:49Hey, we have a uh thing today we call it paid the park.
- 31:52So for parking, it's a hundred dollars.
- 31:56For you.
- 31:59Oh my god.
- 32:01Oh my god.
- 32:02You didn't hear about it?
- 32:03No!
- 32:04Yeah, it's Mondays.
- 32:05Oh my god, thank you, Jesus.
- 32:08Oh my god, thank you.
- 32:10You're welcome.
- 32:11Thank you.
- 32:12Oh my god, there's you love God.
- 32:16It just counterfeit.
- 32:17What's that?
- 32:18It does counterfeit.
- 32:19No, it's not counterfeit.
- 32:22If you don't like the hundreds, we'll give you another one, but with ones.
- 32:27So you have two.
- 32:29You give me the two.
- 32:30Yeah.
- 32:31Pay the park.
- 32:35Y'all can make me have a heart attack.
- 32:36Okay, I don't want you to have a heart attack.
- 32:38Oh my god, and have an amazing day.
- 32:42Thank you.
- 32:43You're welcome.
- 32:44Oh, thank you.
- 32:47Come on.
- 32:48God is good.
- 32:49God is good.
- 32:51Yes, yeah.
- 32:52Have an amazing day.
- 32:54You all do.
- 32:55Take care.
- 32:56All right.
- 32:57So number one, he's he's just funny.
- 33:00These interactions.
- 33:01And some of them are emotional, and you know, there's some people who break down cry, and and they're just they're in shock.
- 33:07I think everybody's in shock.
- 33:09Uh, every video that I've seen, people are just in shock.
- 33:13But uh, here's a woman, she she's like, is that counterfeit?
- 33:17And he gives her a hundred dollar bill.
- 33:19He's like, no, but if you don't like the hundred, and and he lets her keep it, but he's like, here, I'll give you a stack of ones.
- 33:25There's 100, a stack of ones.
- 33:28So she she ends up getting 200.
- 33:30But you heard the the lady who said, God is good.
- 33:37She appears to not be with the woman who received the money.
- 33:42She was just walking by and she saw this happen, and she yells out, God is good.
- 33:47And I'm like, man, even that, like, people are so they're such good sports, and they see other people get get blessed.
- 33:56And instead of getting jealous and being like, Well, where's my money?
- 33:58Why don't you give me money?
- 34:01Or putting her head down, she could have kept to herself.
- 34:04She yells out to the woman who just received $200.
- 34:08She goes, God is good.
- 34:11This is America.
- 34:12This is what I'm talking about.
- 34:14All these people that talk about how unsafe it is, and it's just terrible, and people are bad people, and people are greedy, and they're just constantly talking down about Americans.
- 34:25I don't believe it.
- 34:26I don't believe it.
- 34:28I refuse to believe it because I see too much goodness in this world.
- 34:35There are a few bad apples in every society.
- 34:41There just are.
- 34:43That's reality.
- 34:44There are a few bad apples, but most people are really good people.
- 34:49They're really kind people.
- 34:50And I love everything about what Bob is doing.
- 34:53So he started um he started his week off in December.
- 34:56So okay, so his goal is to hand out 35,000 himself.
- 35:0035,000.
- 35:03And uh the reason he says his success has felt better than anything fancy that he could have bought himself.
- 35:12So he started his week off.
- 35:14He started the the reverse receipts.
- 35:18That was in front of a local Walmart.
- 35:20So he was reimbursing shoppers who are leaving the store.
- 35:24He's like, hey, um, today is reverse receipts day.
- 35:29And people are like, what in the world is reverse receipts?
- 35:31And he's like, oh, well, that's where we pay you.
- 35:34We look at your receipt and we pay you the amount that's on your receipt.
- 35:40And then uh he moved to Tuesday and he declared that single mom Tuesday, and he was given hundreds of dollars to single moms.
- 35:50And again, his goal, and I haven't found any follow-up stories, but uh to find if he actually reached his goal, but his goal was to reach 400,000 in donations by the end of December.
- 36:06And he said that seeing relief on people's faces has been the most meaningful part of his success.
- 36:12And the reason that resonates with him, according to Bob, is because he's been there.
- 36:18He's been on the receiving end, he's had to uh, you know, uh hold his cup out for money, beg for money.
- 36:29He's had to rely on the goodwill of other people in order to survive, just to survive.
- 36:36So he gets it.
- 36:37He understands what it means to struggle, and that's what's really cool about this.
- 36:46It's what's really cool about other people blessing other people, right?
- 36:52Typically, there's some kind of a connection, and people just get it, they understand it.
- 36:56They they connect on some level, and they know what it's like to struggle, even if they've not struggled themselves, people can still empathize with that, and that's why there are so many wealthy people who are incredibly generous in this nation.
- 37:11We have so many wealthy people who are generous.
- 37:15I I just absolutely love it.
- 37:18So I refuse to bash rich people or poor people or anybody in between.
- 37:24We're all in this world together.
- 37:28We're coming up on another break here.

- 39:05And to celebrate a record 70 million dollars in sales.
- 39:10I'm just trying to wrap my mind around that number.
- 39:12Um, first of all, kudos to Pro West Roofing.
- 39:16Uh, that's really cool.
- 39:18And we celebrate success here in America, right?
- 39:21Uh, so many people get jealous, and they're like, you know, must be nice, and tax the rich, tax the rich.
- 39:28I happen to celebrate when people work hard and their businesses succeed and they do well.
- 39:35I think we need to celebrate that.
- 39:37So, and anyway, uh, any rate, Bob Schober decided that he was going to celebrate his company having a record year, reaching 70 million dollars in sales.
- 39:49He was gonna celebrate that by giving away 35,000 in a week.
- 39:54Which he did.
- 39:56I just can't imagine cashing out.
- 40:00$35,000 and having like that kind of money.
- 40:05And you're just giving that all away.
- 40:07That'd be so fun.
- 40:08What a blast.
- 40:10What an absolute blast.
- 40:13I just I love stuff like this.
- 40:16So Schober, who said we had our best year ever.
- 40:21He's been sharing that personal journey, sharing his wealth.
- 40:28Um experienced hardship himself, living as a homeless guy.
- 40:32He says, from a guy who used to be homeless, living in a Volkswagen bus in the early to mid-90s.
- 40:41To a guy that is where I am today.
- 40:44What I'm going to do, uh, what am I going to do?
- 40:47Buy another Rolex, buy another car for what?
- 40:51Yeah, that's a good point.
- 40:54I mean, once once you reach a certain threshold, and I forget what the number is.
- 40:58There's some statistic out there, and I don't even remember where I heard this source, but I think it was off of uh Ramsey.
- 41:08There's a study that was done that says like once you start making over $100,000, your level of happiness doesn't increase whatsoever.
- 41:21Like there's literally no difference between it's something like $100,000 and $100 million.
- 41:29Like there's literally no difference on the effect of your personal happiness.
- 41:36And the reason is, you know, the psychological reason is things don't buy happiness.
- 41:43And it reminds me of what Jesus says when he said, Well, what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?
- 41:55What profit is it?
- 41:56If you gain the entire world, but you give up your soul, what does that profit you?
- 42:04And people know this.
- 42:05We all know this to our core.
- 42:06We know that things don't make us happy, and that's why it makes me sad when people fall into that trap.
- 42:14They're having a bad day.
- 42:15Well, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go um, I'm gonna go shopping.
- 42:20Never, never shop when you're having a bad day, trust me.
- 42:26If you're not in a good mind frame, uh it's not a good idea to go shopping, especially if you have a credit card.
- 42:35Just not a good idea.
- 42:38Because we fill our lives with things thinking that that'll make us feel better, and it just doesn't.
- 42:46So that's a great point.
- 42:47What am I gonna do?
- 42:49Buy another Rolex, buy another car for what?
- 42:53That's he has everything he needs, everything he ever wants or needs, he's got it.
- 42:59So he says, now I'm gonna bless other people.
- 43:04So again, he did the reverse receipt and the the single uh single mom Tuesday giveaways.
- 43:11He's done dozens of TikTok videos.
- 43:16Uh, this is a Fox 10 Phoenix news article.
- 43:22This was done back in December.
- 43:24It says the random acts of kindness are changing lives this holiday season.
- 43:28Schober said the stories he discovered brought him to tears, including an evicted single mother surrounded by her three children and another person whose car was repossessed.
- 43:42You see, this is why this is important, and as a Christian, as a pastor, as the host of this show.
- 43:53All of these stories matter because these are real people.
- 43:57You know, I don't ever want to fall into that trap of thinking, well, these are just entertaining videos, and because I think a lot of people consume them that way.
- 44:04We are a consumeristic society.
- 44:08I think a lot of people consume the videos, and they just they're feel good videos, and uh, you know, you kind of get wrapped up in or even addicted to the algorithms that feed these kinds of videos to you.
- 44:20But that's why I want to take it, I'm gonna take it further.
- 44:23I'm gonna say, no, these aren't just feel-good stories, these are people's lives.
- 44:31This is the reality that a lot of people are living in right now.
- 44:37I know of at least three people right now in my own town.
- 44:41I don't know them personally, but I know of them, three people who are facing eviction right now, this this week.
- 44:51And I would love to have money where I can I can just help people step in and avoid all the red tape, all the red tape of trying to find people, find donors, find volunteers, find other churches to pitch in, because it's hard.
- 45:12It takes time, and honestly, I think a lot of people think that churches have unlimited funds.
- 45:20They do not.
- 45:22We have a budget, we have a limited budget for what we can do.
- 45:27And so my mind is always thinking, my wheels are always spinning.
- 45:30I'm like, okay, well, how do we how do we harness other people?
- 45:33How do we harness ideas?
- 45:35How do we think outside of the box?
- 45:37And that's you you've heard me mention this by now.
- 45:39I'm gonna mention it again.
- 45:40I'm gonna keep mentioning it for the month of April.
- 45:44I'm taking 100% of the royalties for my book, tithing your time, treasure, and talent.
- 45:50I'm taking 100% of the royalties earned from that.
- 45:56And I'm gonna give all of that away, 100% of it, including um, and I'm not talking like net amount, like I don't care.
- 46:09I'll cover taxes on it, everything.
- 46:11100% of that, 100% of the gross is going to be gived away, given away.
- 46:17100% because I want to see other people succeed.
- 46:26I don't like seeing people struggle, and that's why I think stories like this are really important because it inspires us.
- 46:36I was inspired actually by a couple different stories, but this was one of them.
- 46:42I was inspired to do that.
- 46:43And I was like, you know what?
- 46:46I I can I can do something.
- 46:50Um I'm not one to start go fund me.
- 46:57That I never would, but I just I know too many people who need too much help right now.
- 47:04But it's like for me, starting with one go fund me is gonna make me feel pretty crappy because I'm like, well, what about all these other people who need help?
- 47:16Um so I was like, well, I I can take my royalties and just give it all away.
- 47:25Yeah, and hopefully that inspires somebody else to think outside of the box.
- 47:29And that's that's why Bob Schober started doing this because he's like, I I want other people, uh, other businesses, other successful businesses.
- 47:38I want them to kick in.
- 47:40And he set that goal of 400,000.
- 47:42Uh, I would love a follow-up story on this.
- 47:45I looked, I I can't find one, so I don't know if he actually met his goal.
- 47:51But here are what people are saying who received money from Schober.
- 47:58This is Zuleima Gamboa who received 2300 from Schober.
- 48:05I did not expect that.
- 48:07He comes, gives me this amount of money.
- 48:09I was so surprised.
- 48:11I didn't have any words of how to show my feeling of how grateful I was.
- 48:17One of the most impacted recipients was Lynn McHale, an 84-year-old who can no longer work and received $3,000 from Bob Schober.
- 48:33Lynn said, I'm losing my house right now.
- 48:35I can't keep working.
- 48:36My whole body is giving out.
- 48:41McHale called the donation living proof of faith.
- 48:47If you've never believed, honey, this is living proof.
- 48:51Our God is so much bigger that no matter how bad or scary your situation is right now, he is an 11th hour God, she said.
- 49:03Doesn't that give you chills?
- 49:07Isn't that incredible?
- 49:08Isn't that cool?
- 49:09Uh here's somebody who's losing her house.
- 49:1184 years old, and she's facing eviction, and that touched Bob's heart.
- 49:21He was moved by that.
- 49:24Now, he typically gives people 200.
- 49:27A lot of the videos that the videos that I've watched, he's given 200, but for her, she gave her uh he gave her $3,000, and she points to God.
- 49:38And a lot of these people do.
- 49:39I played you the clip.
- 49:40God is good.
- 49:44A lot of these people give God the praise.
- 49:48And as a pastor, like that's the faith component in this that I'm especially attracted to.
- 49:58I think there's so many ways.
- 50:01To reach into people's lives and to show them who God is.
- 50:06And we don't have to be eloquent.
- 50:08So many people, so many people are afraid to interact with other people.
- 50:14And I've I've had church members who they talk about this and they're like, oh, I just I don't know enough.
- 50:19And I'm just not a good speaker, and I'm not gifted at speaking, and how could I teach them who God is?
- 50:26And it's like that fear cripples them.
- 50:29And I'm like, you know, I try to, I try to emphasize that.
- 50:32You don't have to be an evangelist.
- 50:35You don't have to be standing on a street corner with a microphone and a speaker, and you're preaching to people as they walk or drive by.
- 50:44You don't have to do that to show people who God is.
- 50:59Be generous.
- 51:01Do an act of kindness.
- 51:04Pay for somebody's gas.
- 51:08Pay for somebody's groceries.
- 51:12Pay for somebody's rent if you have the money.
- 51:17That's literally all you have to do, and people automatically shift towards God.
- 51:24Most people.
- 51:27And I I've heard this time and time and time again.
- 51:30And I think this is one of the mysteries of how God works, but I've heard people say things like you have no idea how much I've been praying, and I've been praying that God give me a sign.
- 51:41And then you showed up.
- 51:43I've heard this story repeated over and over and over again.
- 51:51And I think so many times people are just waiting for somebody to be generous or to be kind.
- 51:59And if we're letting those opportunities pass us by, and believe me, they're all they're all around us.
- 52:05You literally could walk to the gas station across the street from you.
- 52:11Pay for a random person's gas, and I will almost guarantee you that that person is going to be somebody who's like, man, you have no idea how bad I needed this right now.
- 52:24Maybe they didn't need the money, maybe maybe they just needed to know that somebody, somebody kind is out there.
- 52:31You have no idea what people are struggling with.
- 52:36So that's why I'm absolutely attracted to this story on so many levels.
- 52:41There's a faith component, there's the rags to riches, the opportunity here in America, somebody who literally came from nothing, I mean, literally came from nothing, is now co-owner of a multi-million dollar company.
- 53:01And is incredibly generous.
- 53:19This was written like mid-December.
- 53:21So again, I don't know.
- 53:23I don't know if he reaches a goal of 400,000.
- 53:28I'd love to see a follow-up.
- 53:32But what's fascinating is this story is not anywhere in the mainstream media.
- 53:39How is a story like this?
- 53:41How does a story like this get buried?
- 53:45And that's, I guess it's one of the frustrating things that you know that the media is focused on so many bizarre stories.
- 53:53If if if Kim Kardashian wears a bikini, you better believe that's front page.
- 54:01I swear, every time a celebrity wears a bikini, that's groundbreaking news.
- 54:10Groundbreaking news.
- 54:12So and so I just saw Heidi Klum the other day.
- 54:15I was scrolling on the front page.
- 54:18I was scrolling on a national media site.
- 54:24And it was like Heidi Klum turns heads at 60 years old or however old she is.
- 54:31And I'm like, who cares?
- 54:34Like, great for her that she's keeping up with herself.
- 54:38That's great, but how is that front page news and this isn't?
- 54:43How is this story not front page news?
- 54:48The mainstream media hasn't even picked it up.
- 54:51That blows my mind.
- 54:52And that's what I mean.
- 54:54People get stuck in this reality where they think the world is worse than what it is because stories like this are buried.
- 55:02And that's why, my friends, at the hidden lightness, we bring these stories out in the open.
- 55:10We share them because they're common.
- 55:12We share them because it shows the heart of the American people.
- 55:17It shows that people are kind.
- 55:18It shows that even when people are extremely wealthy, they're still giving.
- 55:46Even if it's five dollars, I don't care.
- 55:50Find somebody and bless them and invite other people to do the same.
- 55:56Encourage other people.
- 55:58Listen to what Bob's doing.
- 55:59I'm contacting my friends.
- 56:02I'm trying to bring out 35,000 to 400,000.
- 56:07Because why not?
- 56:09It's fantastic.
- 56:11America is fantastic.
- 56:14And God is fantastic.
- 56:17You can find word out about my show and get all the latest podcasts if you go to the menu navigation bar at America Outloud.news under our shows or schedule.
- 56:25You'll be in the know.
- 56:26There is a hidden lightness that shines inside of all of us.
- 56:29When so much darkness envelops the world, remember that it doesn't take much light to expose that darkness and to ultimately inspire other people.
- 56:36Join me in being a light.
