- 1:59have Greg Thomas on the show. That's coming up a little bit later on.
- 2:00Also we got Mayor Monday and Mayor Dave von Talbert of Marmette is going
- 2:06to be joining us for that segment. Oddly enough, as Lederman used to
- 2:09say, as timely as today's headlines, we previously had scheduled the mayor of
- 2:13Marmett to be on the show of this morning, which Marmett's one of the
- 2:16areas getting hit with the flooding early this morning. And we'll get to the
- 2:20mayor at the moment, but I want to bring in Jeff Jenkins from the
- 2:22newsroom. Jeff, good morning, Welcome back from your vacation. You've been
- 2:25out and about in it this morning. Yeah, so we do have an
- 2:29ongoing flash flooding situation. This really all started, Dave on Saturday night in
- 2:34the Slaughters Creek area in Fields Creek area, so that is you know,
- 2:39those two areas are just off of Route sixty one in Eastern County State Route
- 2:46sixty one and show you and basically show you in and Winifred is where those
- 2:51areas are. And they got some flooding on Saturday night. Well, rain
- 2:54started early this morning and both of those areas again and some other areas too,
- 3:00So we've had water rescues this morning in those two areas Slaughters Creek,
- 3:06the Winterford area, which is also known as the official name is Fields Creek.
- 3:09Everybody calls it Winterford Hollow. Of course, So there's been high water
- 3:13there and gotten into some homes, and there have been water rescues there.
- 3:17And also there's been high water on Witcher Creek, so right across the river
- 3:23in Witcher Creek, which is off of US Route sixty, there's been some
- 3:25high water there. Connaw County has closed Riverside High DuPont Middle also, yeah,
- 3:35let me get that right. DuPont Middle, East Bank Middle, and
- 3:38Carver Career and Technical Center all closed today because of the And I'm going to
- 3:44make sure I'm right on that. Yes, yes, because because of the
- 3:47high water. And you know, so the good news is is that the
- 3:53rain has decreased in intensity a little bit, but some areas, according to
- 3:59the new National Weather Service, got as much as close to six inches of
- 4:02rain. That's insane this morning, over the last couple of hours. So
- 4:06of course that's going to cause a problem with over with saturated grounds, are
- 4:11you know, already a problem there. So there have been some rescues.
- 4:15We don't know the extent. I mean, we're kind of right into it,
- 4:18so as the water starts to go down, I think one owes the
- 4:20extent of damage. But I saw also saw some video this morning of the
- 4:26of the turnpike, and there's just been some rock slides and mud slides and
- 4:30some water for a period of time, at least into the slow lane of
- 4:33the turnpike as you go through that same area, so you may want to
- 4:36watch out for there. There's been high water into US Route sixty UH and
- 4:42there's also been a flood warning for the Clendenin area, but we're told from
- 4:46the Kanak County Commission that that's not a life threatening situation. They've just had
- 4:50some high water in that area. In fact, Kanau County has issued a
- 4:54state of emergency and so that just allows for more resources to to come through
- 5:00those areas in different things. So we're kind of we're kind of right into
- 5:04it. You know, the water hasn't gone down yet, the rain is
- 5:08the intensity of the rain is slowed a little bit, so we're gonna we'll
- 5:11get a better idea of the damage in a few hours as as things go
- 5:14on here, But the flood warning remains in effect until new They've also the
- 5:17latest flood warning was for Dry Branch Hollow, which is on Cabin Creek,
- 5:21Dry Branch Hollow and Wet Branch Hollow, which are both near the mouth of
- 5:27Cavern Creeks. They've had some problems there too. You know, it's such
- 5:30an odd weather situation, Jeff. You know, there was not a thing
- 5:32when I left my house in Puttnham County this morning. Fact, I heard
- 5:36your live reports with Christ and Carry this morning, and I was thinking,
- 5:40what is he talking about, because there was nothing over there. I didn't
- 5:44see any rain at all driving in from Putnham County until I got right about
- 5:49Montrose off sixty four this morning about seven thirty. And even then it was
- 5:53just a little bit of a drizzle. I mean, it's just odd odd,
- 5:56yeah, So yeah, it was raining in the South Trust started raining
- 5:58in South truston right or forty five this morning something like that county. Yeah,
- 6:02but and not you know, there's no water problems right here in Charleston.
- 6:06But just go east a little bit and the mayor can tell us.
- 6:09Yeah too. Yeah, I mean it's just just a narrow area. And
- 6:14again it's the it's the cumulative effect, yes, you know on some of
- 6:18those areas they had to high they had to high water Saturday night. If
- 6:21you looked at the map Saturday night, the National Weather Service put up,
- 6:24it's just a narrow area that we're just getting pounded. And some of those
- 6:27areas got pounded again. The same area got pounded again less than forty eight
- 6:31hours later. So that's why there's a problem. So we'll be on it
- 6:35all day. We'll be up there. We'll be able to get once that
- 6:40water goes down, we'll be able to get a better idea of the extent
- 6:42of the damage. All right, Jeff is always I appreciate it. Thanks
- 6:44a lot. May be safe out there, okay, Jeff Jenkins from the
- 6:46newsroom, and again he and Chris and Carrie and the Jarrett, the entire
- 6:49team and Cat of course will be following along with what's going on with those
- 6:54situations in eastern Kanawa County. Mayor, Monday, let's go to the Marmot
- 6:59Mayor, fontal Of von Talbert, Dave von Talbert, Good morning, sir,
- 7:02how are you? Good morning? I'm thanks are you. I'm doing
- 7:05fine? Thank you for being here. I mentioned top of the segment,
- 7:09Mayor that I had planned I talked to you and your staff last week about
- 7:12getting you on the mayor Monday segment where we have a different different marriage Monday.
- 7:16I didn't anticipate that that it would be this intense, though. What's
- 7:21what's going on in mar Mett right now, sir guy, It's it's it's
- 7:26crazy. Uh, We've been fairly fortunate in Marmett. Would you have a
- 7:30flooding issue on the corner of Maryland and eighty seventh Street, But all in
- 7:36all, we're in pretty good shape. Street departments taking care of the hollows
- 7:42which have been traditionally a spot you know that's very very apt to flood.
- 7:47So we're in good shape and we're actually assisting you know, some other communities
- 7:53in the Uppercanala Valley with our street department personnel and glad to do so.
- 7:59But it's it's, uh, you know, just like you reported, and
- 8:03you know, it's an event that it really has impacted a specific, uh
- 8:11swatch of area. Yeah, even as close as Chesapeake, Tomorromth they they
- 8:16experienced some issues that we have not, so you know, we're neighboring community
- 8:20and it is it's you know, just amazing how how quick this has impacted
- 8:26us. Did you have to do any water rescues that you're aware of within
- 8:30the in your jurisdiction, in your area. No, we've we've not.
- 8:35Like I said, we've been really fortunate that we have not. But being
- 8:39you know, we're prepared to assist in our fire department as well. I'm
- 8:43sure you know we appreciate the reporting from WCCHS. It helps helps keep everyone
- 8:48abreast of, you know, developments and how to react the residents. So
- 8:54we do appreciate that well, and we're glad to do it. And I
- 8:56appreciate you taking time to be on with the this morning. Also appreciate the
- 9:01effort that you're doing in the in your neighboring communities as well. That's what
- 9:03we do here in West Virginia. Mayor. One common theme that we have
- 9:07on this segment each week, no matter what the mayor, no matter what
- 9:09the town is infrastructure and many, in many cases in a lot of cities
- 9:16and towns, municipalities and West Virginia, infrastructure ain't good. How are things
- 9:20in Marmett and what are you folks doing about it there? Well, and
- 9:24you hit on a good point. We were in the same boat as many
- 9:28with the especially the hundred year old sewage lines and such, and the terra
- 9:35cotta lots of issues with that. But but all in all, we're being
- 9:41assisted by the Department Transportation with infrastructure as far as the new new bridge and
- 9:48marmat in new sidewalks and such. So very fortunate in that regard too.
- 9:52But what the infrastructure does does remain an issue. Never know when something's going
- 9:58to occur in a specific area and we have to react to to repair that,
- 10:03of course, and so it just seems like, you know, one
- 10:05thing after the other, but we are not unique in that regards, as
- 10:09you mentioned. So we're trying, you know, but it's all you can
- 10:13do. I was just saying, that's all you can do, Mayor,
- 10:16that's all you can do, you guys. I understand you've always got some
- 10:22sort of project going on there, Marmott, and I understand that you're working
- 10:24on a public safety annex and a new garage for the public Works department.
- 10:28Talk about that. Yeah, that's very exciting. You know. With the
- 10:31help and assistance, the financial assistance from the concount of Commission, we've been
- 10:35able to begin construction of a new public works garage for our street department and
- 10:43also a public safety annex that will house our police department as well as our
- 10:48Street Department training facility and Marmott and this will expand and give us the capacity
- 10:54that we've needed for quite a while to operate more efficiently in the town and
- 11:00also of course to protect our assets from the elements, the weather elements keep
- 11:07those in good working orders. So we're so so thankful to the Commission for
- 11:11their assistance and being able to do this, and have to give a shout
- 11:16out to our Street Department personnel for allowing us to interrupt their daily routine to
- 11:24get this together. But that's that's a very exciting project for us. And
- 11:28it will also address some MS four issues from the Department of Environmental Protection.
- 11:37We we will be able to eliminate some some risk of uh, some hazardous
- 11:45risks for our clean water supply. So this has been a huge plus for
- 11:50us and look forward to completing that hopefully in the in the early spring.
- 11:54Both of those projects, we're talking again with the Mayor of Marmota. Mayor
- 11:58of Monday, Dave von Talbert, You've got some renovations going on to your
- 12:03park and your community center. May you're talking about that now it's true too.
- 12:07We are renovating the community center completely. It hasn't had a facelift in
- 12:13oh I guess sixty years set this construction. So we are renovating the floor,
- 12:22new paint, new basketball goals. We're going to provide three pickleball courts
- 12:28inside as well as a meeting room for special events and kitchen area to be
- 12:35renovated. And we're just excited about that to provide a provide something for the
- 12:41residents to really be proud of and to utilize for their special events such as
- 12:46receptions or wedding, wedding and baby showers and political meetings, anything of that
- 12:54nature. You know, it will be available to rent. And our Bill
- 12:58Wells Park, which is well situated across from the gam here in Marmette,
- 13:07beautiful location on the river. We're going to renovate their forag shelters and provide
- 13:15mini kitchen kitchenettes, so hopefully those will serve the community as well. And
- 13:20just excited to be doing these things for the for the community and the citizens
- 13:24and really the surrounding area. And I know you guys go all out from
- 13:28Labor Day. It's one week from the day. What's you got going on
- 13:31here. Yea, sir, this this promises to be one of the best.
- 13:35We have actually four days uh for our Labor Day fair beginning this Friday.
- 13:41We have live entertainment every evening, including the Exiles, which is a
- 13:46well known band in the area. We will have games for the kids each
- 13:52day, bingo, eating, contents, you name it, just just everything
- 13:58possible. What we think of is the best fireworks in them all Valley.
- 14:03That's what I've heard. That's what I've heard. And Mayor sounds like you
- 14:07got a lot of exciting things going on. I hate to put a damper
- 14:09no pun intended on it with this weather situation this morning, until you guess
- 14:13and like you're doing good things and again more importantly, you're out there helping
- 14:16your neighboring communities. Pleasure to have you on the show. Mayor, we'll
- 14:20talk again soon. Thanks a lot, Thanks for having me, appreciate it.
- 14:22You are certainly welcome. It's the Mayor of Marmette, Dave von Talbot,

- 14:58just a few counties away that's kind of flooding is happening. That's what I
- 15:01said. I mean, it was just kind of a weird. And when
- 15:03I was listening to Jeff as I was driving in this morning on the Morning
- 15:09News with Chris and Carry, and he was talking about the flood of the
- 15:13heavy rain Saturday night, and I was thinking, what heavy rain? There

- 18:49just you know, and the summer of vacation stuff and chilling with the kids
- 18:56and a noo, they're back in school and back on the campaign trailer.
- 19:00I mean, got lots of lots of you know, neck deep and candidate
- 19:03recruitment, a lot of announcements that have been happening and then will be happening
- 19:07over the next coming weeks and months and exciting time. I think. What
- 19:11was your take from the Republican presidential debate minus Trump last week or the Trump
- 19:19indictment and the Trump mug shots that he's making money off of your take on
- 19:23any of that. Look, you know, with respect of the debate,
- 19:26I mean, I think there's there's three groups of Republican candidates, right,
- 19:32There's Trump, who is the you know, ninety nine percent of the groups
- 19:38there's Trump, and there's everybody else. And then of the everybody else,
- 19:41you know, half those folks there are are interviewing to be the VP,
- 19:48as Trump said that, and the other half are entires existence is based on
- 19:53being anti Trump. Look, you know, I've worked for Trump on his
- 19:59first campaign back in twenty sixteen. I like Trump. I'm nervous that he
- 20:06can win again. I want him to I want him to run. I
- 20:11want him to win. Uh. It makes me a little nervous whether he
- 20:15can or not. But you know, Biden's just so so weak, right,
- 20:18I mean, he's just old, his health is bad, he's corrupt.
- 20:23You know, everybody's starting to see how bad this is, even the
- 20:27Democrats, right, and they're sort of scurrying about. So Look, I
- 20:33don't know. I think I think it'll end up being competitive. I do
- 20:37think that, you know, the indictments though, were made to you know.
- 20:41I think there's two things with the indictments. One, I think the
- 20:45Liberals just can't help themselves, right, they're just Trump Trump, just like
- 20:49he consumes their being, which is unfortunate for their existence and their their personal
- 20:56mental health. But I think the other thing is it right, it's like
- 21:00this rallying of the troops on our side, right, because you look at
- 21:03it and you think, gosh, you know, even if I'm sort of
- 21:07not the strongest Trump person, you see what they're doing to them, and
- 21:08you see how outrageous it is and just how fake it all is and how
- 21:14corrupt it all is, and it makes you want to rally around him.
- 21:17And that's what's happening, right. I mean, you know, his his
- 21:19support among the Republicans is going up. And I mean, I you know,
- 21:23look, I come across Republicans that I know that a year ago were
- 21:27like, you know, privately, oh gosh, I really hope it's not
- 21:30Trump. And now it's like, hey, let's go get them, you
- 21:33know what I mean, Like, you know, the heck with these people.
- 21:37I mean, and if you are somebody like and I'll just throw out
- 21:40a couple names here. Let me maybe Chris Christy, Nikki Hayley, Tim
- 21:42Scott, whoever on that stage. You've got to hope that there's no more
- 21:47indictments, because every time but there is an indictment, this guy's stock goes
- 21:52up. And the mug shots, as I said, he had to love.
- 21:55I wonder if his people were pressing because there were no mug shots in
- 21:57the other I wonder if they were pressing from a marketing standpoint. Come on,
- 22:00let's do a muck shot. Let's do a much shot. Because he
- 22:03raised seventy million dollars Greg seventy million dollars on those mug shots alone since last
- 22:11week. That's not a made up figure. That's seventy million dollars. How
- 22:15long do you think he practiced that? Let look for that mug shot.
- 22:18Oh, I've read all kinds of theories about that, particular the way he
- 22:21looked into the camera. He had to practice any well, and he delivers
- 22:26on that though, right. I mean, he he obviously practiced that.
- 22:29He obviously thought about it, they obviously had a plan around it. But
- 22:32he executes that stuff, man. I mean, he's he's the best at
- 22:34it. He really is, you know, I look, I'm still hopeful,
- 22:41little nervous, but still hopeful that that that's going to go in the
- 22:44right direction. But Biden, I mean, I don't know, man,
- 22:48I mean, if you're if you're the Democrats, she just gotta be hoping
- 22:49that, you know, I don't know, not that you wish ill health
- 22:52on somebody, but you gotta hope that like something happens to where they get
- 22:56somebody else. Well, the majority of them Americans have said that they don't
- 23:00want either one of them, So so what does that take? All right,
- 23:03So we'll do this, We'll move on the next one. Next the
- 23:06next debate is going to be at the Reagan Library in California. Do you
- 23:10think that Trump will take part? And if you greg were running or affiliated
- 23:14with Donald Trump's campaign, would you have him there at the next debate,
- 23:15because it worked out pretty well him not being at the debate this time,
- 23:18it did. I mean, I think he has to do one. I
- 23:21mean, I don't know the I'm not following this debate schedule closely enough to
- 23:26know how many or planned or whatever. I mean, I think he's got
- 23:29to do one, whether it's this one or the one after or whatever.
- 23:33I mean, I think he's got to do one just because he is just
- 23:37so good at it though too, you know what I mean. I mean
- 23:38this like, I guess if there's you know, let's say there's three planned,
- 23:41I probably wouldn't do the next one. Maybe I do the last one.
- 23:45I'd let them sort of, you know, beat each other up and
- 23:48sort of sort itself out, and then maybe come in at the end and
- 23:51kind of come in with a steel chair at the end of wrestling. I
- 23:53think that's exactly that's a good analogy, exactly. Tech says last week you
- 23:57were talking Trump with Danny Jones. I like Trump. No what, I
- 24:00vote him in the primary. No. Do I want to vote for him
- 24:03at a general election. No, but I will because I do not want
- 24:07a Democrat running this country. Hell would have to freeze over before I would
- 24:11vote for one. Well, and I think that's not an uncommon sentiment from
- 24:15your caller there. I mean, I think there's a lot of people that
- 24:18you know, just look at Trump and and look like I like Trump.
- 24:21I don't like everything Trump did. I mean, I think he made some
- 24:23you know, terrible terrible uh you know, appointments and running running up the
- 24:30debt. Yet under under Trump than anyway the coast that was the COVID spending
- 24:36stuff. I mean, that was you know, I mean there, you
- 24:37know, there's certainly a lot of things that happened during that that you kind
- 24:41of wish you could take back. But overall, you know, when you
- 24:48juxtapose it with the current administration, which is to me, it's like they're
- 24:52trying to ruin the country, right, I mean that you know, they
- 24:56don't care about inflation, they don't care about jobs, they don't you know,
- 25:00you can't. Illegal immigration is way up. Legal immigration is impossible.
- 25:06Uh you know, I just literally it's like if you had a game plan
- 25:11for how you would try to ruin the country's economy, they're executing it.
- 25:17The Democrats are executing how to ruin Middle America. And that's just what they're
- 25:26doing. So, I mean, I think there's a lot of people like
- 25:27your last caller there that that you know, that see that, right and
- 25:32just look at it and say, oh gosh, you know when you know
- 25:33Trump made some mistakes and you know, gosh, he gets off on these
- 25:37tangents or whatever. You know, maybe I kind of wish there was somebody
- 25:40else, But I know, you know, I may not know who I
- 25:42want, but I definitely know who I don't know who you don't want,
- 25:45and that's and that's Biden, that's the Democrats. Tech says Trump is old
- 25:48and corrupt also, but I agree he's a little healthier. I don't think
- 25:52Trump's Look, I don't think Trump's corrupt, right, I mean, I
- 25:56don't think he's trying to just like you know, personally like financially benefit for
- 26:00him and his family off this stuff. I you know, his motives though,
- 26:07are you know, maybe selfish shot, But I don't think they're corrupt.
- 26:11Text says all those people getting Trump money. Trump has said he loves
- 26:15the poorly educated. Uh. Look, I think I think poorly educated to
- 26:21me means you're just not some sort of liberal elite, right, I Like,
- 26:26I don't know, I don't think you know, poorly educated to me
- 26:30isn't what it was probably you know, twenty years ago that might have been
- 26:33like asl and now it's like, oh, you haven't been brainwashed by the
- 26:38you know, liberal you know, uh universal speaking of that, because I
- 26:45know you're a good little I know you're you're you're you're pretty norn good at
- 26:48discrect because I know you love to talk about unions. UH lead story this
- 26:52morning wv Metro News dot Com by Brad mclhenny. In stead up nancier Eric
- 26:56tarr is ripping into the head of the American Federation of Teachers on a national
- 27:00level. Randy Weingarten following her comments and a letter that she sent addressing the
- 27:06funding crisis at West Virginia University. She Randy Weingarten called the cuts to WVU
- 27:11quote draconian and catastrophic, and she went on to say that the university leaders
- 27:17should advocate for increased state support to make up for the projected shortfall by some
- 27:22estimates as much greg It's forty five million dollars. Now, let me give
- 27:26you a guitar quotes, or at least some of them. The real reason
- 27:30AFT has inserted themselves into this situation this is star talking, is they are
- 27:36worried that other public universities will start to wake up and correct their own course
- 27:41unbridled spending by liberal educators, he put educators and air quotes created the created
- 27:49the mess, and our country's higher education institutions and what they find themselves in,
- 27:53et cetera, et cetera. He went on to say West Virginia has
- 27:56had enough of the AFT and the NA that's National Education Association and their social
- 28:03agenda influence education, influence in education policies. All we need, this is
- 28:10him talking. All we need to validate our conservative decisions as legislators is to
- 28:14add the AFT, w V A, A, c U, LGBTQ or
- 28:19AFL CIO complain about those decisions. In other words, Greg, not to
- 28:25put words in t Our's mouth, but if you're making those groups mad,
- 28:27you must be doing something right. He went on to refer to the AFT
- 28:32American Federation teachers as socialist. Now you can read more about at wv metro
- 28:36news dot com. Your take, Senate Finance Chairman Tar is one hundred and
- 28:41ten percent correct. You know, look this whole alphabet soup group and all
- 28:47the letters and stuff you just round off. I mean these, you know,
- 28:49these are the same folks that wouldn't let your kids go to school during
- 28:53COVID. These are the ones that are trying to let their liberal teachers change
- 29:00their gender and not tell you about it. These are these are bad people,
- 29:06and and I think obviously the national Unions are just trying to interject them.
- 29:11I mean, Tar's exactly right. They're trying to interject themselves into this
- 29:14fight. One for a little bit's probably relevancy, right, I mean,
- 29:17right now, Like you know, I can't think of another time during my
- 29:22lifetime where educators that the tar putt in air quotes there, uh, that
- 29:27educators have had such a negative impression, right, I mean, you come
- 29:32out of COVID and you know, all of a sudden, all these public
- 29:34school kids parents were like, oh my gosh, my kids really not learning
- 29:37anything, you know, like it doesn't matter if they're in school or not.
- 29:41The teachers really don't care, not all of them. I was gonna
- 29:45say, it's not fair to say, you know, I mean, they're
- 29:47a lot of they're probably looking at like my kids, teacher doesn't care,
- 29:49you know, And that's true in a lot of cases. And so I
- 29:52think they looked at that right though, and said and so now, so
- 29:56now you've got the situation, and I you know, I don't don't know
- 30:00how much people are following the you know, there's been all these education,
- 30:03you know, higher education stories in the Wall Street Journal over the last couple
- 30:07of weeks, and you know, talking about West Virginia is not the only
- 30:10university that sort of went for gold here and increased spending and did all this
- 30:14stuff, and now we're having to roll it back. I mean, there's
- 30:15a lot of other universities in this situation, WUS I think the most prominent
- 30:21one that has come out and been like, we're making cuts. You know,
- 30:23we're not going to go down to our legislature with our hand out.
- 30:26We're not going to just keep raising tuition. We you know, we overextended
- 30:30ourselves and we're going to dial it back, which is the right thing to
- 30:33do. And so I think these national guys are coming in and saying,
- 30:37oh my god, what happened? What happens if that catches on? Right,
- 30:41saying what happens if that catches on? And all of a sudden,
- 30:45you know, it's not just WU, It's it's a higher state, or
- 30:49it's Penn State, or it's University of Nebraska or whatever, you know what
- 30:52I mean, because all of them did it. You know, well Marshall
- 30:56didn't do it. All of them did it. And they've over extended themselves,
- 31:00you know, not as many people were going to college. Now there's
- 31:03been all these demographic changes, and these guys were out here building these huge
- 31:07universities and new dorms that were luxury and had swimming pools and everything else in
- 31:11the world, and now all of a sudden, nobody's going, or you
- 31:15know, not as many people are going. And so I you know,
- 31:18I think tars one hundred percent right. I think the legislature is right to
- 31:22not bail them out. And you know, look, the reality is Gordon
- 31:26Gey and the board made some bad decisions and now they're trying to from my
- 31:32perspective, now they're trying to correct it. And now you've got all the
- 31:36liberals that they are like no, no, no, no, no no,
- 31:37but you know, make more bad decisions because they're the ones getting paid.
- 31:41You know, I think I hope, I've I've heard that this is
- 31:45going to happen, and I really hope that it does. You know,
- 31:47a real review of that education spending and how much these professors are making and
- 31:51what they're actually doing. I you know, I think the more they ask
- 31:56for money and ask for bailouts and you know, try to get the Democrats
- 31:59to come down here and ask for more money from the legislature, I think
- 32:01that's the more you're going to see the tars of the world, take a
- 32:05deeper dive into those spending habits and into what we're actually getting out of the
- 32:08money. I could see the legislatures sending less money to Morgantown after they start
- 32:14to really review what their money is going for. We knock out some texts
- 32:17before we go to break. Tex says the liberal media and the Democrats make
- 32:21it real easy to know who to support and not, but who they are
- 32:23attacking. There after Oliver Anthony, now that's the country singer. Seriously,
- 32:30there's no line they won't cross. Tech says, why are we prosecuting poor
- 32:34people not rich people. I went to jail for being a drunk. Trump
- 32:37tried to take over the country and people told people to drink bleach. Tech
- 32:42says, what I regret it You get a lot of different kind of people
- 32:45to listen in. It's all different types, all kinds are welcome. What
- 32:49I regret says the textures. People are so blind to the actual personality of
- 32:52the man that they would give him money to pay his lawyers and that what
- 32:58he's doing brags he's a billionaire, gets money to pay his bills from gullible
- 33:00people. Tech says, uh, seventy five percent of Trump's donations are going
- 33:05to legal phase. How is that not corrupt? Isn't he supposed to be
- 33:09rich? Look, I think the legal fees argument is is I think there's
- 33:15some validity to it. But I think the I think the flip side of
- 33:17that is and you know, I've worked with politicians that have been involved in
- 33:22some of some of these legal disputes. But the reality is is he's not
- 33:25in these you know, these legal fights are because of politics, right,
- 33:29I mean, this isn't like people, you know, this isn't something that
- 33:31would have happened if he wasn't the president, you know what I mean.
- 33:34So I do think, you know, I think it's a gray area.
- 33:38I certainly think that that's that's a viable argument to make. But I do
- 33:42think there's a defense of it. You know, I just you know,
- 33:45I don't know the right answer there. But I just don't think it's as
- 33:49clear cut as what the Contstrmy Daniels was before he was president. That's trum
- 33:52Daniel situation. Really not a whole lot to that. Yeah, Tech says
- 33:57unemployment at an all time low as our elite goal, border cross seat Greg's
- 34:00a lie, Oh my gosh, illegal boarding cross That person can't possibly believe
- 34:06that that's an outrageous thing to say. The border, like the borders just
- 34:09I guess you could say maybe that illegal crossings aren't down or since it's just
- 34:13it's illegal now, like you're allowed to just cross the border, so I
- 34:15guess they're not illegal. I mean, that's a that's an unbelievable thing for
- 34:19that person to say. Right there. I mean an unemployment, I mean,
- 34:22you gotta be killed, Like, I guess this person doesn't understand,
- 34:23Like there's this thing called workforce participation rate and then unemployment. Unemployment means who's
- 34:29looking for a job? Right like that? That means how many people are
- 34:32looking for a job. The reason that unemployments at an all time low is
- 34:37because nobody's looking for a job, because the government's willing to pay them to
- 34:40sit at home and not have a job. If unemployment is low and workforce
- 34:45participation is, they're just dropped out. They're just dropped out. They're not
- 34:47working, they don't have to work. We're giving them free stuff. Man

- 38:38and that's why I said that. You know, you know, ten years
- 38:42ago, I would have considered that ten fifteen years ago, I would have
- 38:45considered it an insult. Now it isn't. And uh, I mean,
- 38:49I mean, to be honest, though, guys, I went to Hampton,
- 38:51Sydney, not exactly a liberal. Greg. I hate to break in
- 38:53here, but we got some breaking news we gotta get to. Chris Lawrence
- 38:57joins it from the news from Chris. Good Morning, Good morning day of
- 38:59Good morning Gregg. Yes, the state police have just notified us that they're
- 39:05going to begin evacuation of residents living in low lying areas between Sharon and Cabin
- 39:09Creek in the eastern section of Kanawa County. The high water is starting to
- 39:13become a real issue there and the Gustin folks trapped. The National Guard is
- 39:17getting involved as well, being activated, and they're going to be involved in
- 39:21some of this as well. So this is very fluid in developing situation.
- 39:23But they asked that we put out that if you live in eastern Kanawha County,
- 39:27especially near a low lying stream, to try and get the higher ground
- 39:30because those creeks are rising and they're starting to isolate areas that you're not gonna
- 39:35be able to get out of. So those evacuations are underway again between Sharon
- 39:38and Cabin Creek and low lying areas. All right, Chris, we'll continue
- 39:42to follow that here on the radio as well. All Right, Chris makes
- 39:45politics seem a little bit non important right now, but I do appreciate you
- 39:47with that breaking news story. And again Chris, we'll have more information on
- 39:51that coming up a little bit later on course. Dave Wilson, we'll have
- 39:53coverage on talk line as a well. Appreciate Chris Lawrence for giving us that
- 39:58information. There are five eighty live you part by your hometown Baseball Tea.

- 40:22the rhetoric rhetoric that comes out of his mouth? Do you believe what you
- 40:24say? Mister Thomas? Everything I say? Uh, I mean, I
- 40:30sometimes misspeak, but I mean like if I'm if I'm intending to say something,
- 40:34I mean it. Greg I'm told that Huntington Mayor Steve Williams announcement that
- 40:37he's going to be running for governor on the Democratic ticket, will be coming
- 40:40soon. What are you What are you hearing out there? Because here's the
- 40:44thing about it. You know we're hearing about that. We got at least
- 40:46three candidates on the Republican side running for attorney general. One I know of
- 40:52it is confirmed for state auditor Caleb Hannah. There's going to be another one
- 40:54announcing over the next couple of weeks, and he's going to be running for
- 40:58outer. We know about the Republicans running for governor. We got three Republicans
- 41:01running for Secretary of State. When are we going to start hearing more from
- 41:06the Democrats? I'm not sure if you are. Look, I think this
- 41:12as we've seen over the last couple of cycles. You know, at the
- 41:14state level, it's just it's becoming impossible. I don't know it's impossible,
- 41:20but nearly impossible for a Democrat to win statewide. Look, Joe Manchin isn't
- 41:24running for us in it again because he can't win. I mean, Joe
- 41:27Manchin can't win. It's gonna be tough. Look, I think Steve Williams
- 41:30is a better candidate than Stephen Smith or somebody you know, or Celango,
- 41:35somebody real liberal like those guys. But I think that I think this is
- 41:43the year that I mean, look, I think Republicans are even going to
- 41:45pick up more seats in the legislature, which we almost have them all now,
- 41:47but we're we're going to pick up even more. We'll have all the
- 41:52statewides, including the US Senate seat after this election. And so to me,
- 41:59this I think this election here is going to be about county stuff.
- 42:01Man. I think the circuit courts, I think county commissions. I think
- 42:05that's where a lot of your action is. I think you're already seeing a
- 42:07lot of some of the more conservative or old time Democrats or switching parties.
- 42:14Sometimes you're just having people run as Republicans that aren't really Republicans, you know,
- 42:17actual rhinos that words kind of used too often to mean even like moderate
- 42:23Republicans. But I don't think to me, a moderate Republican isn't a rhino.
- 42:27Rhino is actually a Democrat that just switches their party to run as a
- 42:30Republican. And we have a lot of those in West Virginia. We're seeing
- 42:34and we're seeing more, Yeah, we're seeing more. And so I think
- 42:36I think you're gonna have to be careful of that. But now, I
- 42:39look, I think this is the year that you're going to see a ton
- 42:44of county commissions flip Republican sheriffs, you know, and even some of these
- 42:50positions greg and it kind of varies depending on the county, but even some
- 42:53of these positions that are nonpartisan. I mean, all you've got to do
- 42:58is I mean, I mean, all you have to do if there you're
- 43:00still in order to run, you have to be registered as something, even
- 43:04if it's independent. So if you want to know when you go into the
- 43:07voting booth, who that judge or that magistrate or even board of education,
- 43:10a simple Google search or going to the Secretary of States a web page.
- 43:15Look that I think at this, I think what you're going to see here
- 43:17at the circuit court level in Kanong County, you know, were they added
- 43:22a seat, So there's gonna be eight circuit court races here in Kanong County.
- 43:25I think the Republicans, I think not just Republicans. I think Conservatives
- 43:30will win five of those eight seats this time. And I don't think you're
- 43:34gonna have to google. I think there will be a campaign letting people know
- 43:37who those five are, right, I think there's gonna be I don't know
- 43:39if it'll be a slate, but I could see something like that, which
- 43:43is essentially like, hey, when you're go voting for circuit judge and you've
- 43:45got eight choices and you're a Republican, a real Republican, here are your
- 43:49people, right, Here's who they are. And I certainly would expect an
- 43:53effort like that, and I think it'll be successful. I mean, I
- 43:58think that this primary, you know, because you gotta think about it.
- 44:00Just as you just said, there's no Democrats you're going to be running for
- 44:04state wider. There's not going to be a reason for Democrats to come out
- 44:07in May, you know, if it's already going to be Biden, if
- 44:09they don't have anybody to vote for on all these other races. And so
- 44:13the independence, you know, the you know, everybody's going to be coming
- 44:16out to vote because you're gonna have all of these contested Republican primaries. You've
- 44:21got a big time to US Senate race, you got a big time governor's
- 44:23race, You're gonna have all these other seats. So Republican turnout in May
- 44:29is going to be higher than ever. Democrat turnout in May is going to
- 44:34be lowest, lower than ever. And so if you're running for one of
- 44:38these nonpartisan seats and you're identified as the Republican, you're gonna win. And
- 44:43that's it. That's gonna happen in Kanaan, let alone. You know,
- 44:46Jackson and Putnam in everywhere. And when you go to these meet the Candidates
- 44:51forums, or when I have them on the show, or when Hoppy has
- 44:53them on the show or whatever, they're going to be asked questions because this
- 44:57is where we are right now, and they're gonna have to explain where they
- 45:00stand on certain issues. I mean, that's just kind of where we are.
- 45:02Text says great to hear Greg Thomas on the program. He's a man
- 45:06with common sense. Thanks. I didn't realize you could text the show from
- 45:08there. That's that's pretty good. You're you're talented. I think that is
- 45:13quite the compliment. You know, all right, we're gonna take overly educated

- 47:28you don't know can hurt you. Tex said, I noticed Greg Thomas deflected
- 47:31on the sex of user comment. Admit that the West Virginia GOP fully backs
- 47:36and adjudicated rapist for presidents from some liberal judge and some you know, big
- 47:43liberal jurisdiction like this, it's a it's a banana republic in those places,
- 47:47it's a corrupt courts. I don't I don't recognize. I don't even recognize
- 47:51that you and I were talking there during the break that if you were,
- 47:55I mean, let's let's focus on legislature for a moment. You fully leave
- 48:00that our good friend, friend of the show, Mike Pushkin, may be
- 48:04the only Democrat from this area, from our immediate listing area in the legislature.
- 48:09By the time the new session gables, Pushkin will be the only Democrat
- 48:15left in the legislature from Kanall County. Next time, he'll be the only
- 48:20one left. Hornbuckle will be the only one in UH in the Huntington area,
- 48:27flew hard. He will probably win up in Wheeling, UH. You
- 48:30got two or three in Morgantown. That'll win again. And that'll be it.
- 48:34And and I think on the state Senate level it's going to be thirty
- 48:37three to one. I think Wolfe will be the only Democrat left. And
- 48:40let's man, let's face a wolf ain't the most Democrat Democrat. I mean
- 48:45he's a he's a right, he's an old school rational sort of Democrat with
- 48:49which looks. Look, the reality is, if they would have if they
- 48:52would have stayed that way, they wouldn't be in this nearly you know,
- 48:57uh extinct position did it to themselves and they you know, and look,
- 49:07the reality is at the end of the day here all of you know,
- 49:09after this election, when we pick up all these county seats, you know,
- 49:14the only place left for the Liberals is going to be city halls,
- 49:16right, gonna be you know, Huntington, Charleston City Hall, at Morgantown
- 49:22City Hall, Wheeling, stuff like that, and then and then the universities
- 49:24and and and you know, to Brad Smith's credit, he hasn't let the
- 49:29crazy sort of take over in Marshall. I mean, I mean they're obviously
- 49:30still there in the faculty Senate, but like you know, he's kept them
- 49:35out of those political fights, and he's focused on you know, I think
- 49:38he's got a plan that he's focused on that he's pushing forward. And then
- 49:43you got this situation in w where you know, sort of ge and the
- 49:45board dug this hole that they're now trying to dug dig themselves out of and
- 49:49then you have all these you know, crazy liberal professors that are out there,
- 49:53you know, protesting. You know, I don't have no idea what
- 49:57the protesting. Well, somebody sent me a text on picture of Barbara flesh
- 50:01Hour, who was leading the student protest at WV legislator from that area.
- 50:07You know, you know what, at least you you know she's true to
- 50:10her beliefs, right Texas. So West Virginia GOP had to vote this weekend
- 50:15and their summer meeting to permit the Republican Party to endorse conservative candidates of their
- 50:20choice for circuit judges or Preme Court judges and the intermediate court judges. We
- 50:24will let the voters know who the liberals are and help to identify conservatives.
- 50:29So I think that's a I think that's a great move. I mean,
- 50:31that's you know, that's what we did in the state Senate to win all
- 50:35of you know, we won all of our seats last time. We'll continue
- 50:38to do that again in the state Senate. And I'm glad to see the
- 50:40party doing it at the at the judicial level. Text says, dear Day.
- 50:44For the first time ever, I feel bad for Greg. It must
- 50:45be exhausting to defend Trump. Both candidates are terrible, but Trump is a
- 50:50punchline. So I'm saying this because of the uninformed, not involved people like
- 50:53the illegal crossings are down text her. More than two point six million illegal
- 50:58aliens crossed the borders in January twin twenty one. An average of over one
- 51:01one hundred and seventy one thousand migrants have sought into the US illegally per month
- 51:06during this period, with the highest monthly total reaching over two hundred and thirty
- 51:09four thousand and April twenty two. April twenty twenty two, try again,
- 51:13text you give me fifteen second screen. Hey, the governor made a great
- 51:17appointment and Stephanie Abraham for the Circuit Court judge here in Kadaw County. I
- 51:22think she'll do a great job and I think she'll be easily elected next day.
