- 0:10Speaker 1: What's up, everybody. Welcome into this edition of The check
- 0:12Speaker 1: O Daily. It's Andrew de Checko with a Wednesday update
- 0:17Speaker 1: from the Eagles Novacare Complex. A lot going on to
- 0:20Speaker 1: start the week here for the Eagles, and as we
- 0:23Speaker 1: always do, we'll get right to it and start with
- 0:26Speaker 1: the injury news. The injury report, the first one of
- 0:29Speaker 1: the week, was released about an hour ago, and not practicing,
- 0:34Speaker 1: tight end Dallas Goddard with the knee, limited, defensive tackle
- 0:38Speaker 1: Jayalen Carter's shoulder, linebacker Nakobe Dean knee, cornerback Adorri Jackson groin,
- 0:44Speaker 1: and tackle Lane Johnson with the shoulder. Let's unpack this
- 0:48Speaker 1: a little bit because for Dallas Goddard and the Eagles
- 0:52Speaker 1: it has to be frustrating. Dallas Goddard, of course, missed
- 0:55Speaker 1: the Chiefs game with an injury. He had a nice
- 0:57Speaker 1: game against the Buccaneers with two touchdowns off the push play.
- 1:02Speaker 1: And to not practice and again this is the start
- 1:04Speaker 1: of the week, but to not practice day one obviously
- 1:08Speaker 1: is something that we have to monitor. But you have
- 1:11Speaker 1: to wonder if these injuries are going to continue to
- 1:13Speaker 1: linger this season for Dallas Goddard, and he's such a
- 1:18Speaker 1: good player and so effective when he's available, needless to say,
- 1:22Speaker 1: from a receiving standpoint and a blocking standpoint, but he
- 1:26Speaker 1: has struggle with injuries and he's so key to what
- 1:29Speaker 1: the Eagles do offensively. He's one of the three go
- 1:31Speaker 1: to receivers in the passing game, so obviously that's something
- 1:36Speaker 1: that we have to keep an eye on. Jaylen Carter
- 1:38Speaker 1: with the shoulder, he was out there when we were
- 1:41Speaker 1: out there for the media attended portion of practice ended
- 1:44Speaker 1: up being limited. Dori Jackson with the groin. I mentioned
- 1:48Speaker 1: that a Dori Jackson was working out before the game,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and he on Friday pretty much said that it was
- 1:54Speaker 1: going to be a game of type of situation. You
- 1:56Speaker 1: have to warm up the groin and hopefully that doesn't
- 1:59Speaker 1: limit your loosen this. Obviously, the Eagles sat him for
- 2:02Speaker 1: that game. He was inactive, but he was out there
- 2:04Speaker 1: to start the week, which is always good. And Lane
- 2:06Speaker 1: Johnson as well with the shoulder. Those are all things
- 2:10Speaker 1: that we'll be keeping an eye on as we start
- 2:12Speaker 1: to get through this week. A little bit. Thursday will
- 2:14Speaker 1: be a big indicator and give you more clarity as
- 2:17Speaker 1: to one their statuses, but basically how likely they are
- 2:22Speaker 1: to be able to play in the game. So Nacoby
- 2:27Speaker 1: Dean with the knee. He's back on the practice field.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Wednesday was his first practice of the year. If you remember,
- 2:34Speaker 1: before training camp, he was placed on the physically unable
- 2:37Speaker 1: to perform list. Suffered the torn Peteller tendon against the
- 2:41Speaker 1: Packers on January thirteenth, and it's such an extensive gruesome
- 2:48Speaker 1: grewsome injury, but it's an extensive timetable to get back,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and Nacobe is so positive he attacked the rehab process.
- 2:56Speaker 1: On Wednesday morning, they open up his twenty one day
- 2:58Speaker 1: practice window, which now gives the Eagles twenty one days
- 3:01Speaker 1: to either activate na Kobe Dean to the fifty three
- 3:03Speaker 1: men roster or shut him down for the season. But
- 3:07Speaker 1: Nikobe said that he had this date circled for a
- 3:11Speaker 1: while now, and he just talked about his positivity and
- 3:17Speaker 1: that's the way that he is. He doesn't like negativity,
- 3:20Speaker 1: so he sort of radiates positivity. And if you've listened
- 3:23Speaker 1: to me and read anything that I've written about Nakobe,
- 3:26Speaker 1: I think very highly of him. One of his mindset,
- 3:29Speaker 1: but he also is a tremendous leader for this football
- 3:31Speaker 1: team and a good football player. Now the question becomes,
- 3:34Speaker 1: and it's sort of a conundrum, but a good one
- 3:36Speaker 1: at that they have a surplus of talented linebackers. Johad Campbell,
- 3:40Speaker 1: the rookie's playing very well and gets better with each
- 3:43Speaker 1: and every game, every rep, and Zach Bond of course
- 3:46Speaker 1: is a superstar. So when Na Kobe is ultimately ready
- 3:51Speaker 1: to go or I should say, put on the fifty three,
- 3:55Speaker 1: then you have to ask yourself what role will he have?
- 3:58Speaker 1: So I look at it and say, he's not going
- 4:01Speaker 1: to unseat Jahide Campbell or certainly Zach Bonn or cut
- 4:05Speaker 1: into their playing time in any real way. I would
- 4:07Speaker 1: have to imagine, especially with the Campbell being a rookie
- 4:10Speaker 1: and you need all of the reps out there to
- 4:12Speaker 1: continue to grow and develop. But I do think that
- 4:16Speaker 1: there's a role for someone like a na Kobe Dean. Obviously,
- 4:20Speaker 1: when you're coming back from an injury, you're not going
- 4:21Speaker 1: to overload that player with a lot of reps or
- 4:24Speaker 1: a lot of snaps. But he's a very good run
- 4:27Speaker 1: defender and he's effective as a blitzer. So there are
- 4:30Speaker 1: certain ways situationally that I could see Vic Fangio finding
- 4:34Speaker 1: a plan to get him onto the field, and he
- 4:36Speaker 1: doesn't traditionally rotate his linebackers, but when you have someone
- 4:39Speaker 1: as talented as n Kobe Dean, I think you make
- 4:41Speaker 1: an exception. But we'll have to wait and see. He
- 4:44Speaker 1: could be active as early as Sunday against the Broncos.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Now there's also that ramp up period that you have
- 4:51Speaker 1: to take into account. Certain players are ready to go
- 4:54Speaker 1: a little bit quicker than others because being in regular
- 4:58Speaker 1: shape and then being in football shape obviously two different things.
- 5:01Speaker 1: But I can tell you that you get after training
- 5:03Speaker 1: cap practice. The first guy on the field putting in
- 5:06Speaker 1: were all summer was the Kobe Dean. He's been around
- 5:10Speaker 1: a lot more in the past couple of weeks, and
- 5:13Speaker 1: you could tell he's getting that itch to get back
- 5:14Speaker 1: out there. Now it's going to need to be more
- 5:16Speaker 1: than just that. He's going to have to show that
- 5:18Speaker 1: he's ready to go for Week five against the Denver Broncos.
- 5:21Speaker 1: But it seems like, you know, whether it's this week
- 5:24Speaker 1: or next week, it feels inevitable that he's going to
- 5:26Speaker 1: be back into the mix. And that's a great sign,
- 5:29Speaker 1: that's a great story, and he's certainly going to help
- 5:33Speaker 1: this defense in real in a meaningful way, in a
- 5:37Speaker 1: tangible way. So great news there for na Kobe Dean
- 5:42Speaker 1: and that was one of the announcements from this morning.
- 5:46Speaker 1: So there's a lot of other things that we have
- 5:48Speaker 1: to get to looking at the Eagles, so they at practice.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I did notice that rookie offensive tackles Miles Hinton and
- 5:56Speaker 1: Cameron Williams, who are both on injured reserve, they were
- 5:58Speaker 1: running sprints on our neighboring field as we were walking
- 6:01Speaker 1: to the mainfield where the team was stretching. That's a
- 6:03Speaker 1: good sign there. And there's the injury update with long
- 6:11Speaker 1: snapper Charlie Hewlett, who yesterday was placed on IR And
- 6:15Speaker 1: according to Brett Tresler, who is Charlie Hewlett's agent, he
- 6:20Speaker 1: posted this on x Twitter, the injury that placed his
- 6:24Speaker 1: client Charlie Hewlett on injury reserve was a core injury
- 6:27Speaker 1: and he added that Hewlett had successful surgery and will
- 6:30Speaker 1: be back playing quote unquote in a couple of months.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So in the meantime, replacing Charlie Hewlett at long snapper
- 6:38Speaker 1: on the fifty three is cal adamitis and he's twenty
- 6:43Speaker 1: seven years old. He was a rookie free agent signing
- 6:45Speaker 1: of the Cincinnati Bengals in twenty twenty two. He appeared
- 6:48Speaker 1: in forty nine games over three seasons, and he was
- 6:51Speaker 1: waived in August during cutdowns. I had a chance to
- 6:54Speaker 1: talk to Cal today. He mentioned that he had other
- 6:57Speaker 1: workouts lined up, but he got the phone call Philly
- 7:00Speaker 1: was going to sign him, so he said, you know,
- 7:02Speaker 1: cancel those workouts, and just really excited. He was staying
- 7:07Speaker 1: putting in the work, staying engaged in the month that
- 7:09Speaker 1: he was out of football, and he talked about and
- 7:12Speaker 1: I have to transcribe this quote, so apologies, but talked
- 7:15Speaker 1: about getting on the same page and establishing that rapport
- 7:17Speaker 1: with Braden Mann and Jake Elliott. I enjoyed my conversation
- 7:21Speaker 1: with him, and that's a great story. And he's played
- 7:24Speaker 1: a lot of football. So they're getting somebody in here
- 7:27Speaker 1: who is considerably younger than Charlie Hewlett, but he has
- 7:31Speaker 1: played in forty nine games, so that's something to keep
- 7:34Speaker 1: an eye on. In twenty twenty one, while at Pittsburgh,
- 7:36Speaker 1: he was the Pat Maneley. He won the Patrick Manley Award,
- 7:40Speaker 1: which is awarded to the nation's best long snapper. He
- 7:43Speaker 1: grew his hair out and that he cut it for
- 7:45Speaker 1: Locks of Love, which is a nonprofit dedicated to helping
- 7:48Speaker 1: children that suffer from medical hair loss. And he's was
- 7:53Speaker 1: on the practice field today and he's wearing number fifty seven.

- 11:24Speaker 2: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 11:27Speaker 2: one and up.
- 11:29Speaker 1: How about this for news the NFL. On Wednesday, they
- 11:32Speaker 1: reveal its Week four Player of the Week awards for
- 11:35Speaker 1: both conferences, and for the second consecutive week, an Eagles
- 11:38Speaker 1: player is represented. This week, it was second year cornerback
- 11:42Speaker 1: Quinya Mitchell who earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week
- 11:45Speaker 1: for his performance in Tampa. So to put things in
- 11:48Speaker 1: a perspective, Mitchell was targeted nine times against the Bucks,
- 11:51Speaker 1: he allowed just two receptions for six yards in the
- 11:53Speaker 1: eagles thirty one to twenty five win, and he added
- 11:56Speaker 1: a career high five passes defended in that outing. And
- 12:01Speaker 1: to further illustrate or drive home the point of how
- 12:04Speaker 1: effective he was, listen to this quote from Vic Fangio
- 12:07Speaker 1: on from Tuesday. I thought he played very well. The
- 12:11Speaker 1: other day. I told him, I think it was his
- 12:13Speaker 1: best game since he's been here. He played well. Vic
- 12:17Speaker 1: Fanu doesn't just offer hollow praise if he's saying that
- 12:21Speaker 1: he believes it and that performance was strong enough that
- 12:25Speaker 1: it warranted that kind of response from Vic Fangio, who
- 12:28Speaker 1: certainly doesn't pull any punches, doesn't sugarcoat anything. As we've
- 12:32Speaker 1: come to know, there's the return of a draft pick,
- 12:36Speaker 1: Antoine Powell Ryland returns. The Eagles, of course, are light
- 12:39Speaker 1: on edge rushers with Nolan Smith and Obo Okoronkua and
- 12:42Speaker 1: injured reserve, and they brought back rookie Antoine Powell Ryland
- 12:46Speaker 1: to the practice squad. The team drafted Powell Ryland, who's
- 12:49Speaker 1: twenty three years old, in the sixth round back in April.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He's wearing number ninety three right now. And then in
- 12:55Speaker 1: a corresponding move, linebacker Lance Dixon was released from the
- 12:59Speaker 1: practice squad. For those keeping score, the edge rushers on
- 13:03Speaker 1: the fifty three man roster, they have dwindled, but now
- 13:06Speaker 1: you have jay Loox Hunt, Zadarius Smith, josh Usha Patrick
- 13:10Speaker 1: Johnson and Aziz Ojalari. And yes, due to a number shortage,
- 13:15Speaker 1: there's a good chance that is he's Ojelari, who was
- 13:18Speaker 1: inactive for the first four weeks will dress Sunday against
- 13:21Speaker 1: the Broncos. Good news there in terms of Ojelari being
- 13:25Speaker 1: able to maybe get some game reps and see what
- 13:27Speaker 1: you have, But they are light there. Talk to Patrick
- 13:30Speaker 1: Johnson today and he had a lot of enlightening things
- 13:34Speaker 1: to say about that position group. He's pretty much said
- 13:37Speaker 1: that we have everything that we need right here now
- 13:40Speaker 1: they have to just have to go out there and
- 13:41Speaker 1: do it. But good stuff from Patrick Johnson, and we'll
- 13:47Speaker 1: see what isz'z oji is ultimately able to do and
- 13:50Speaker 1: what capacity he doesn't help on special teams. He's played
- 13:52Speaker 1: just under one hundred snaps in his career and that's
- 13:55Speaker 1: what contributed largely to him not being available on game day.
- 14:01Speaker 1: So they're gonna need him now. They're very light there.
- 14:05Speaker 1: So unless you've been listening to Living under a Rock,
- 14:07Speaker 1: you're probably aware of aj Brown and the cryptic tweet
- 14:11Speaker 1: that he put out. I don't want to spend a
- 14:13Speaker 1: whole lot of time on that, but I do feel
- 14:14Speaker 1: it's necessary to at least read for you a couple
- 14:19Speaker 1: of the quotes that I was able to transcribe because
- 14:22Speaker 1: he did meet with the media today Wednesday for about
- 14:26Speaker 1: seven minutes and was very accountable, and he knows that,
- 14:32Speaker 1: you know, good things happen when he gets the football.
- 14:34Speaker 1: He wants to win, and that's somehow that's sometimes what
- 14:37Speaker 1: leads to that frustration. But his opening statement said, first off,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I want to start off by saying, obviously, Sunday after
- 14:45Speaker 1: the game, I let my frustrations boil over. I didn't
- 14:48Speaker 1: speak to the media. I had a chance to correct
- 14:50Speaker 1: my frustrations, and I continue to let it boil over.
- 14:53Speaker 1: That's on me, and I take full accountability on that.
- 14:55Speaker 1: My message on Twitter wasn't directed at anyone in the building,
- 14:58Speaker 1: not my coaches or my quarter back, the GM, nobody.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I take full accountability. I have an open communication with
- 15:05Speaker 1: all my coaches and with my quarterback as well. Me
- 15:09Speaker 1: and my coaches kp Nick, we discussed weekly about trying
- 15:12Speaker 1: to get this thing on the same page. He was
- 15:17Speaker 1: later asked on whether he's happy to be in Philly.
- 15:19Speaker 1: For clarification, he says, absolutely, this is home. This is
- 15:23Speaker 1: my home. Unfortunately I did this to myself. I wouldn't
- 15:27Speaker 1: even say unfortunately I did it to myself, but this
- 15:30Speaker 1: is my home and I love it here. But you
- 15:32Speaker 1: just see frustration because obviously, we want to be great,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and most definitely I want to be great as well.
- 15:38Speaker 1: There's a lot more that he said throughout the seven minutes, obviously,
- 15:41Speaker 1: but those are just some key points that I wanted
- 15:44Speaker 1: to convey to the audience. You know me, I don't
- 15:46Speaker 1: like to spend a lot of time on things that
- 15:49Speaker 1: aren't involved in analyzing the team and talking about roster
- 15:52Speaker 1: moves and things like that. But I try to avoid
- 15:57Speaker 1: the you know this stuff is as much as possible,
- 16:00Speaker 1: because you know, you've probably heard enough about it over
- 16:03Speaker 1: the past few days and I don't want to add
- 16:05Speaker 1: on to that. That's not my style. But there you
- 16:08Speaker 1: have it. There's a response from AJ Brown. He was
- 16:12Speaker 1: accountable for it, and the team moves on. AJ Brown
- 16:15Speaker 1: moves on, and that's really all I need to say
- 16:18Speaker 1: about that. But the Eagles are back on the practice
- 16:20Speaker 1: field Thursday afternoon at two fifteen, I believe, without checking
- 16:25Speaker 1: the schedule off the top of my head. And then
- 16:27Speaker 1: there'll be locker room following after that, and I'll have
- 16:31Speaker 1: plenty more updates. I'll have the news and notes of
- 16:33Speaker 1: the day written and published on Inside the Birds dot
- 16:36Speaker 1: Com tomorrow afternoon, and I'll do another to Checko daily
- 16:39Speaker 1: to update you all on the ongoings with the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 16:43Speaker 1: The four to no Philadelphia Eagles, But for now, that's
- 16:46Speaker 1: going to do it for this edition of a Checkodaii.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'm Andrew de Checko, and I will catch you on
- 16:50Speaker 1: the next one.
