- 0:00Speaker 1: Lou Houston wrote this continuation of Space Patrol's Planet X
- 0:04Speaker 1: story with Ed Kemmer as Commander Buzz Corey and Lynn
- 0:08Speaker 1: Osborn as Cadet Happy. On November 21, 1953, ABC presented
- 0:15Speaker 1: episode 60, The Sea Monster of Planet X. Buzz and
- 0:20Speaker 1: Happy search the great sea of Planet X for Prince
- 0:23Speaker 1: Baccarati and Dr. Malingro, who have escaped an abandoned undersea
- 0:27Speaker 1: city in a sealed capsule. Their pursuit carries from the
- 0:32Speaker 1: water's depths to the surface, where the prince's forces are
- 0:35Speaker 1: already in motion. Here is the original broadcast.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Instant Ralston and regular Ralston, the hot, whole wheat cereals
- 0:48Speaker 2: in the red and white checkerboard packages present Space Patrol!
- 0:55Speaker 2: I adventure in the wild, vast reaches of space, missions
- 0:58Speaker 2: of daring in the.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Name of interplanetary justice.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Travel into the future with Buzz Torrey, Commander-in-Chief of the
- 1:05Speaker 2: Space Patrol! In today's transcribed space patrol adventure, Buzz and
- 1:12Speaker 2: Happy are trying to drive off one of Prince Baccarati's
- 1:14Speaker 2: atmosphere ships before it destroys.
- 1:16Speaker 4: A small submarine in the great sea of Panadex.
- 1:20Speaker 3: We're driving him off, Hap.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 1:21Speaker 4: He's had on all rockets.
- 1:23Speaker 3: But what happened to the sub? We'll take care of
- 1:24Speaker 3: it later after we've chased that atmosphere ship away.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Commander, they're firing at us. They want to play rough,
- 1:29Speaker 4: we'll cooperate. Stand by to fire space torpedoes.
- 1:32Speaker 3: We're hit!
- 1:33Speaker 4: We've knocked out our starboard rockets.
- 1:34Speaker 3: We're out of control.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Commander, we're going to crash!
- 1:38Speaker 2: We'll return in just a moment with today's exciting Space
- 1:41Speaker 2: Patrol adventure, The Sea Monster of Planet X. Only nine
- 1:51Speaker 2: days left to enter the Name the Planet contest. Space patrollers,
- 1:57Speaker 2: this is Commander Corey reminding you that you have only
- 2:00Speaker 2: nine more days to enter the Name the Planet contest
- 2:03Speaker 2: and win the giant rocket clubhouse and $ 1, 500. Only nine

- 2:12Speaker 2: But that's time enough to enter and win if you
- 2:14Speaker 2: act fast. First, go to your Weatherbird shoe store. Say,
- 2:18Speaker 2: let's listen in on a fellow who just arrived at
- 2:19Speaker 2: his Weatherbird store.
- 2:22Speaker 6: Hi, Mr.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Weatherberg, man.
- 2:23Speaker 7: I want a coin album and entry blanks with the
- 2:25Speaker 7: name of the planet content.
- 2:27Speaker 4: You bet, son.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Here you are.
- 2:30Speaker 4: And it's absolutely free. You don't have to buy a thing.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Inside that free coin album are three space coins and

- 2:40Speaker 2: just get three more space coins from three packages of
- 2:43Speaker 2: Hot Ralston. You'll find a space coin in every Hot
- 2:45Speaker 2: Ralston package. Put those three coins into the empty slots
- 2:49Speaker 2: you'll see in your coin album.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Then.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Write the best name you can think of for Planet
- 2:53Speaker 2: X on the entry blank and mail it to the
- 2:56Speaker 2: address shown in the album. Of course, you keep the
- 2:58Speaker 2: album with the six exciting space coins for your own collection.
- 3:01Speaker 3: But don't delay.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I want every space patroller to have the opportunity to

- 3:28Speaker 2: the Name the Planet contest. Hurry, see your Weatherbird shoe
- 3:31Speaker 2: dealer and get Hot Ralston today. And now, today's exciting
- 3:42Speaker 2: space football adventure, the Sea Monster of Planet X.
- 3:46Speaker 3: What is the fate of Vince Baccarati?
- 3:48Speaker 2: That's the question uppermost in the minds of Commander Corey
- 3:51Speaker 2: and Cadet Happy as they maneuver the Terra-5 slowly over
- 3:54Speaker 2: the great sea of Planet X. In their last adventure,
- 3:58Speaker 2: Buzz and Happy cornered Baccarati and Dr.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Malangro in a deserted city under the sea.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But the prince and his henchmen slipped into an escape
- 4:04Speaker 2: hatch and shot through the surface in some sort of
- 4:07Speaker 2: sealed capsule. Now, as their spaceship circles over the approximate
- 4:11Speaker 2: location of the engulfed city, Buzz and Happy watch the
- 4:14Speaker 2: viewscopes for a sign of the strange cylinder.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Containing the two men.
- 4:24Speaker 4: There's not a thing on the surface, Commander.
- 4:26Speaker 8: By the way, that capsule shot out of that tube
- 4:28Speaker 8: down there in the city, I thought sure it'd be
- 4:29Speaker 8: bobbing on top of the sea like a cord.
- 4:31Speaker 3: A lot of things could have happened since then, Hattie.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It took us at least an hour to get back
- 4:35Speaker 2: through the tunnel to the Inland Valley and then blast off.
- 4:37Speaker 2: The chance that cylinder is more than just a sealed
- 4:40Speaker 2: life there. That cylinder might be able to submerge and
- 4:42Speaker 2: move underwater.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Like a submarine. Exactly.
- 4:46Speaker 3: For all we know, it could move at tremendous speed.
- 4:48Speaker 4: There's no telling where Baccarati is now. He may be
- 4:51Speaker 4: hundreds of miles away. Or he might be heading for
- 4:53Speaker 4: shore to get back to his spaceship.
- 4:54Speaker 2: He wouldn't try that, Hattie. For hundreds of miles along here,
- 4:57Speaker 2: the coast is lined with bluffs a thousand feet high.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Even if there was a stretch of beach, there's still
- 5:01Speaker 2: those enormous breakers.
- 5:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Waves a couple hundred feet high, at least.
- 5:05Speaker 8: Besides, if he got ashore, Baccarati would have an overland
- 5:07Speaker 8: hike of 50 miles to the valley.
- 5:09Speaker 2: If Baccarati can control that cylinder, he'll probably try to
- 5:12Speaker 2: get back.
- 5:12Speaker 3: To his castle.
- 5:14Speaker 4: But that's thousands of miles from the sea. Yes.
- 5:16Speaker 3: He has a few installations close to the rivers. That's right.
- 5:19Speaker 4: If you reach one of those, you could get a
- 5:20Speaker 4: spaceship or an atmosphere job.
- 5:22Speaker 2: The mouth of the Colossus River to the east, I think.
- 5:24Speaker 2: That's probably where Baccarati would head.
- 5:25Speaker 6: Yes, sir.
- 5:26Speaker 2: If he's underwater, it'll be difficult to locate.
- 5:28Speaker 3: But we can't give up till we find him. I
- 5:30Speaker 3: know for sure he'll never bother us again.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Meantime, far from the steep bluffs that rim the coastline
- 5:38Speaker 2: of the great sea, a bullet-shaped craft skims the surface
- 5:41Speaker 2: of the ocean at tremendous speed.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Huddled in the tiny compartment, Prince Baccarati and Dr.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Malangro anxiously study the small but battling control panel and
- 5:51Speaker 2: its weird symbols.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Malangro, do something to stop this thing. But, Your Highness,
- 5:58Speaker 4: I know nothing about this ship, or whatever it is.
- 6:01Speaker 9: Remember, it was built hundreds of years ago by an
- 6:03Speaker 9: ancient race here on Planet X.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Don't give me a lecture.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Get it stopped before it carries us out clear to
- 6:08Speaker 4: the middle of the great sea. I can only guess
- 6:10Speaker 4: as to the function of these controls.
- 6:12Speaker 9: Suppose I were to touch something that would open the
- 6:15Speaker 9: hatch and let the water in.
- 6:15Speaker 4: We would sink immediately.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Then don't touch it.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Don't touch anything until you're sure.
- 6:20Speaker 9: Your Highness will be patient. I think I can reason
- 6:23Speaker 9: it out. This indicator here seems to.
- 6:25Speaker 6: Be a compass.
- 6:27Speaker 9: It's logical to assume that the wheel inside the calibrated
- 6:29Speaker 9: dial controls directions.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Careful now, Meringo.
- 6:35Speaker 4: We're changing course. See, Your Highness, I was right. This
- 6:38Speaker 4: wheel controls the steering mechanism. Then head back for the shore, quickly.
- 6:42Speaker 4: We don't know how much fuel we have.
- 6:44Speaker 9: Excellency, I suggest that we proceed either up or down
- 6:48Speaker 9: the coast. To approach close to the shore at this point, well,
- 6:51Speaker 9: we'd be dashed against the cliffs.
- 6:53Speaker 3: All right, all right.
- 6:54Speaker 4: But at least let's not get out of the sight
- 6:56Speaker 4: of the land. I wonder which of these controls submerges
- 7:00Speaker 4: the craft.
- 7:00Speaker 3: What do you want to submerge for?
- 7:02Speaker 9: Corey will be searching for us, you know. On the surface,
- 7:05Speaker 9: we would be fairly easy to find.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yes, that's right. But be careful now.
- 7:10Speaker 4: This critical lever is going to advance slightly.
- 7:16Speaker 3: We're going under.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Right to the surface again.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Milango, do you hear me?
- 7:20Speaker 4: Yes, Your Highness. Don't submerge again until you know how
- 7:28Speaker 4: to control this thing. Yes, Your Highness.
- 7:31Speaker 9: May I point out that the only way I can
- 7:32Speaker 9: learn to control it is by trial and error. Milangro,
- 7:36Speaker 9: which way is the Colossus River? We're heading roughly in
- 7:40Speaker 9: that direction now, Sire.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Eastward.
- 7:43Speaker 8: Go up the river to my spaceship factory.
- 7:45Speaker 4: If we go ashore now, we'll have to cross hundreds
- 7:48Speaker 4: of miles on foot. You are right, Excellency. The river
- 7:52Speaker 4: is our best choice. Do you think we have enough
- 7:55Speaker 4: power to reach the factory? I have no way of knowing, Sire.
- 7:58Speaker 3: We can only hope for the best.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Flying in a zigzag pattern over the surface of the
- 8:06Speaker 2: great sea, Buzz and Happy work their way toward.
- 8:09Speaker 3: The mouth of the Colossus River.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Hours go by, and still there is no sign of
- 8:14Speaker 2: the bullet-shaped cylinder containing Baccarati and Malingro.
- 8:21Speaker 4: I guess they must have sunk, Commander.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Perhaps, but that's not underrated to people that built that
- 8:25Speaker 2: undersea city, Happy. Oh, we needed some help.
- 8:28Speaker 3: With our search. But who's going to help us? Why
- 8:30Speaker 3: not Baccarati's own men?
- 8:32Speaker 5: What?
- 8:33Speaker 2: When he doesn't return to his castle in a reasonable
- 8:35Speaker 2: length of time, they're going to come out to Trader Valley.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Aren't they?
- 8:37Speaker 4: I guess so. And they must have known he was
- 8:40Speaker 4: headed there.
- 8:40Speaker 6: Of course.
- 8:41Speaker 3: They'll find his ship. That means they'll make trouble for
- 8:44Speaker 3: the natives, thinking they must have done something to the prince.
- 8:45Speaker 3: We don't want that. No, sir.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I've thought of a way to protect the natives and
- 8:49Speaker 2: at the same time start Baccarati's men to search in
- 8:51Speaker 2: the sea.
- 8:51Speaker 6: How, sir?
- 8:53Speaker 3: They'll go back to the valley and pick up Baccarati's.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Ship with a magnetic holding field after cutting on the
- 8:56Speaker 2: space phone's distress signal in the other ship. And they'll
- 8:59Speaker 2: circle back out to sea and after a time drop
- 9:01Speaker 2: Baccarati's ship into the water.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Great.
- 9:03Speaker 4: That'll bring a flock of his ships to search for him.
- 9:05Speaker 6: It should.
- 9:06Speaker 4: But how are we going to get Baccarati away from
- 9:07Speaker 4: his men after they find him?
- 9:08Speaker 3: We've done it before, Hap. We can do it again.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Elsewhere, thousands of miles away in Prince Baccarati's castle, two
- 9:18Speaker 2: men listen intently to a spacephone signal.
- 9:24Speaker 3: That's the boss all right, Arkin.
- 9:26Speaker 4: He's in trouble. Get a picture on him, Warbin. I'm
- 9:29Speaker 4: getting it. Out toward Crater Valley. Those natives must be
- 9:34Speaker 4: giving him a bad time.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Don't be stupid. What can ignorant natives do against a
- 9:38Speaker 2: spaceship in flight?
- 9:39Speaker 6: That's right.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Besides, he's beyond the valley.
- 9:42Speaker 4: He's out toward the great sea. I'd better send some
- 9:44Speaker 4: ships out after him.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Okay.
- 9:47Speaker 6: He stopped sending.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Maybe he's okay now.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Look, Arkin, when an automatic emergency code signal cuts out,
- 9:53Speaker 2: it means real trouble.
- 9:54Speaker 4: He may have crashed. Let's not sit here, Gavin. I'll
- 9:57Speaker 4: alert the gang at the spaceport.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Wait a minute. Hold it.
- 9:59Speaker 2: This may be a chance to get ourselves in real
- 10:02Speaker 2: good with Baccarat.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Wait a minute.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I'll send somebody else out to get the glory. We'll
- 10:07Speaker 2: be relieved here in a few minutes.
- 10:09Speaker 4: We'll get a ship and search for the boss on
- 10:11Speaker 4: our own without telling anybody.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Yeah, I see what you mean.
- 10:16Speaker 4: But if he's really in a jam and we don't
- 10:17Speaker 4: tell him.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Of course he's in a jam. A bad one.
- 10:20Speaker 4: If we find him, we're heroes, big shot.
- 10:23Speaker 2: If we don't, well, nobody will be any the wiser.
- 10:26Speaker 2: How about it?
- 10:28Speaker 3: How about you?
- 10:29Speaker 4: We just won't log that distress call. There are no
- 10:32Speaker 4: opportunities for advancement.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Now, in complete control of the strange submarine, Malangro pilots
- 10:42Speaker 2: the craft toward the mouth of the Colossus River, while
- 10:45Speaker 2: Prince Baccarati peers up to the transparent dome, watching for
- 10:48Speaker 2: Commander Corey's spaceship.
- 10:53Speaker 4: We're approaching the mouth of the river now, sire. See
- 10:55Speaker 4: how the headlands are flattening out? In an emergency, we
- 10:58Speaker 4: could land anywhere along the beach.
- 10:59Speaker 3: All right, all right.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Does this club have a space phone on it? I
- 11:04Speaker 4: do not think so, sire. Wait a minute.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I think I see a spaceship.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Where? Over there to the right.
- 11:10Speaker 3: It's coming over the horizon.
- 11:11Speaker 4: You're right, sire. I see it.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Submerge!
- 11:13Speaker 8: Submerge!
- 11:14Speaker 9: But, your highness, I don't think it's Corey. It's approaching
- 11:17Speaker 9: from over the mainland. Corey knows we're somewhere in the sea.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Then it's one of my own ships. It must be, excellent.
- 11:23Speaker 4: I wish there was some way to signal him. It's
- 11:26Speaker 4: probably so small he might not see us. I'll increase
- 11:28Speaker 4: our speed, sire. Zigzag over the water. The white foam
- 11:31Speaker 4: of our wake will be visible for miles. All right.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Do it, then.
- 11:35Speaker 8: It is one of my ships.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I can tell now.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I picked up something in the viewscope, Commander. A moving
- 11:49Speaker 4: object on a heading of 147 degrees.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Now 23 degrees low.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Headed right to the spot where we dropped Baccarati's ship
- 11:55Speaker 2: in the sea. It's an atmosphere ship, sir. If you
- 11:58Speaker 2: hold their solitude happy.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Todd, there's only one ship. I expected 10 or 20.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Yeah, with the big boss in distress, I figured every
- 12:05Speaker 4: ship on Planet X would turn out.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Possibly more will show up later. Our main job now
- 12:09Speaker 3: is to keep from being detected.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Marcus, turn your scanners up to full sensitivity. We're near
- 12:20Speaker 2: the spot where the boss's signal cut out.
- 12:22Speaker 6: It's bad water.
- 12:23Speaker 3: It's not over the great sea.
- 12:24Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 12:24Speaker 3: That's the sign of a wrecked ship. Probably sank.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Dr.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Riley still might have made sure. If he was lucky.
- 12:33Speaker 4: I'd hate to take my chances with some of the
- 12:34Speaker 4: things that are supposed to.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Be in these waters. He said it.
- 12:37Speaker 4: You know, I hear there's a giant jellyfish. Wait.
- 12:39Speaker 3: That's down there in the water.
- 12:41Speaker 6: White Street.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Let me adjust that viewscope. Pedal velocity, will you?
- 12:45Speaker 6: Sure, sure.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Some sort of surface. Seems like a projection.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Look at it.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Oh.
- 12:52Speaker 4: What's a zigzag like that for?
- 12:54Speaker 3: Spaceship tactics. They want to make themselves a tough target.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Where'd it come from? I never saw anything like it
- 13:00Speaker 4: before on Planet X.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Probably some new space patrol gadget. Now we know what
- 13:05Speaker 2: happened to Baccarati.
- 13:06Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 3: They blasted him out of the sky.
- 13:09Speaker 4: We better get away from there or we'll be matched.
- 13:12Speaker 4: There's maneuvering down there.
- 13:13Speaker 3: I'd say he was afraid of us.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Let's blast him with a space.
- 13:16Speaker 6: Bomb, Peter.
- 13:16Speaker 4: That'll be tough to hit.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 2: But it'll look good if Baccarati's ashore watching us. All right,
- 13:22Speaker 2: hold this heading, Harkett. I'm going to cut loose.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Ah, missed him.
- 13:33Speaker 4: All right, let's get away from here before he fires back.
- 13:35Speaker 3: No, wait, let's make another pass.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Maybe he used up all his ammunition on the boss's ship.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Commander, that ship's firing at something down there in the water.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I saw the explosion, Captain. Adjust the view scope. All right.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Smoking rockets?
- 13:55Speaker 4: There's a small surface craft down there, sir.
- 13:56Speaker 3: That's what we've been looking for. It's Baccarati.
- 13:59Speaker 4: But why are his own men firing at him?
- 14:00Speaker 3: They have no way of knowing it's Baccarati, and they
- 14:02Speaker 3: aren't taking any chances.
- 14:03Speaker 8: That atmosphere ship's coming back for another pass, sir. We've
- 14:05Speaker 8: got to drive him off now. We're going to take
- 14:06Speaker 8: Baccarati alive.
- 14:12Speaker 4: He sees us. He's cut on all rockets.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Keep after him till we run him off.
- 14:15Speaker 10: Yes, sir.
- 14:16Speaker 4: We'll chase that atmosphere ship way out to sea. Commander,
- 14:19Speaker 4: they're firing at us.
- 14:19Speaker 3: They want to play rope. You'll cooperate. Stand by to
- 14:21Speaker 3: fire speed. Commander, we're hit. Stock down on starboard rockets.
- 14:25Speaker 3: We're out of control. We'll return to space patrol in
- 14:32Speaker 3: just a moment.
- 14:34Speaker 7: Space patrollers, this is Carol. I want to tell you
- 14:38Speaker 7: about the 750 beautiful Swin varsity bicycles. 750 lucky space patrollers.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Are going to win.
- 14:46Speaker 7: And to name the planet content. Their big, husky beauty. Schwinn,
- 14:51Speaker 7: the best bike made. The three-speed gear shift, two-wheel handbrakes,
- 14:55Speaker 7: and all the other famous Schwinn features. And you can
- 14:58Speaker 7: win a Schwinn. But there's not much time. Go to
- 15:01Speaker 7: your Weatherbird shoe store right away. If you don't know
- 15:04Speaker 7: where the nearest Weatherbird shoe store is, you can find
- 15:07Speaker 7: out in the yellow pages of your telephone book.
- 15:10Speaker 4: So don't wait.
- 15:11Speaker 7: See your Weatherbird shoe dealer today. And get going now
- 15:15Speaker 7: on the Name the Planet contest.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And now, back to our space patrol adventure, the Sea
- 15:25Speaker 2: Monster of Planet X. Unable to locate the small, submersible
- 15:29Speaker 2: craft by which Baccarati and Dr. Malangro escaped from the
- 15:32Speaker 2: undersea city, Buzz devised a plan to lure Baccarati's own
- 15:36Speaker 2: men to aid in the search.
- 15:37Speaker 3: After turning on.
- 15:38Speaker 2: The emergency spacephone signal in Baccarati's deserted spaceship, Buzz and
- 15:42Speaker 2: Happy lifted the ship by magnetic force field and then
- 15:45Speaker 2: dropped it into the great sea. Two of Baccarati's men
- 15:48Speaker 2: picked up the signal of the casualty and set out.
- 15:50Speaker 3: To rescue their chief.
- 15:53Speaker 2: They decided the tiny craft on the water was a
- 15:55Speaker 2: space patrol weapon and so fired upon it. In attempting
- 15:59Speaker 2: to drive off the atmosphere ship, Buzz and Happy were
- 16:01Speaker 2: fired upon by Baccarati's men. With a hole in the
- 16:04Speaker 2: hull of their spaceship, Buzz and Happy are now circling
- 16:06Speaker 2: helplessly over the great sea.
- 16:09Speaker 3: That torpedo tore out a starboard rocket control happy. We're
- 16:12Speaker 3: losing altitude.
- 16:12Speaker 8: When that atmosphere ship comes back, I'll sure let them
- 16:14Speaker 8: have it. Our space weapons are still in order. Apparently
- 16:17Speaker 8: they're glad to be out of the fight, Hap. They
- 16:18Speaker 8: know that was a lucky hit. We're just going in circles.
- 16:21Speaker 8: We're going to try to set her down on the beach.
- 16:22Speaker 4: With the side push of the rockets, what's to keep
- 16:24Speaker 4: us from swerving out into the sea?
- 16:26Speaker 8: I'll spiral down to her on course parallel with the shore,
- 16:28Speaker 8: then cut rockets and ease her down with a repel array.
- 16:30Speaker 5: Right.
- 16:31Speaker 8: If I can groove her down to that long stretch
- 16:32Speaker 8: of beach, it might work. This will have to be
- 16:39Speaker 8: the last spiral, Hap. One more circle over the land
- 16:42Speaker 8: and we'll hit those cliffs back at the beach. Yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 8: you were right about that atmosphere shift, sir.
- 16:45Speaker 3: It's not coming back. Stand by repeller ray.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Standing by, sir. When I cut rockets, we should continue
- 16:49Speaker 4: on a straight course.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Here we go, Hap. Full repeller ray.
- 16:55Speaker 8: We're going awfully fast for a landing, sir.
- 17:02Speaker 3: I know it, Hap. I've panned the repeller ray forward
- 17:04Speaker 3: to give us some braking action. It's working, sir.
- 17:06Speaker 1: We're slowing down.
- 17:18Speaker 8: Oh.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Nice going, Commander.
- 17:21Speaker 3: I'd hate to have to do it again.
- 17:24Speaker 8: If the space phone works, we can call Pluto Space
- 17:26Speaker 8: Patrol and let them know we're here.
- 17:27Speaker 3: At the same time, let Baccarati's men in on the secret.
- 17:30Speaker 6: They could get here.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Quicker than our ships could. Yeah, that's right.
- 17:34Speaker 4: We wouldn't stand a chance.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Let's take a look at the damage, Hank.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Hey, that's some hole.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yes, but we were lucky. The torpedo hit us a
- 17:47Speaker 2: glancing blow and didn't explode on contact.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Sounded like it did.
- 17:50Speaker 2: It was a couple of thousand yards behind us when
- 17:52Speaker 2: it blew up. Well, this is going to be a job.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I think we can handle it.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Let's get to work.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Far out from the beach, a metallic object lurks just
- 18:04Speaker 2: beneath the surface of the sea. Then, cautiously, a transparent
- 18:08Speaker 2: dome rises a few inches out of the water... Carefully,
- 18:12Speaker 2: Prince Baccarati scans the sky and.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Then turns toward the beach.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Hold it, Malangro. Keep it just as it is. Yes,
- 18:22Speaker 4: Your Highness. Corrie has landed on the beach. Is there
- 18:25Speaker 4: ship damage, sire?
- 18:26Speaker 3: It doesn't appear to be.
- 18:29Speaker 6: Yes.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Wait a minute. There's a hole in the hull.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Quite a gash.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Otherwise, it seems to be all right. There is Corrie.
- 18:37Speaker 3: He's trying to repair the damage.
- 18:39Speaker 4: It's going to take them some time, by the looks
- 18:41Speaker 4: of it. We'll wait till they're just about finished.
- 18:45Speaker 8: Then go ashore and surprise them.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Excellent, Your Highness. But suppose Corey's ship is too badly
- 18:51Speaker 4: damaged to blast off.
- 18:52Speaker 8: There'll be at least one workable space phone transmitter aboard.
- 18:56Speaker 3: We can call the castle for help.
- 18:58Speaker 4: All right, Malengo. Submerge and make for the inlet on
- 19:02Speaker 4: the other side of those rocks.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Its motors purring, the sleek craft moves underwater and then turns.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Into the inlet.
- 19:12Speaker 2: The dome breaks the surface as the tiny sub moves
- 19:15Speaker 2: toward the shore. A gentle grinding sound tells Baccarati and
- 19:18Speaker 2: Malangro that their craft is in shallow water.
- 19:25Speaker 3: All right, Malangro.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Cut off the power. Yes, Your Highness.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Now open the hatch. Do you know how to do it?
- 19:36Speaker 4: I think so, Excellency. We'll have to wade ashore, Malingo.
- 19:40Speaker 4: See that your weapons don't get wet.
- 19:42Speaker 6: Yes, sir.
- 19:43Speaker 4: I think this is the hatch release. I'm getting it, sire.
- 19:50Speaker 5: There.
- 19:50Speaker 4: All right.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Boost me up, Belangro. Yes, your highness.
- 19:55Speaker 6: All right.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Now, come on, hurry.
- 19:56Speaker 8: Coming, your excellency.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Come on.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Arms held above their heads to protect their weapons, Malangro
- 20:08Speaker 2: and Baccarati wade ashore, hidden from the spaceship by large rocks.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Their movements are not entirely unobserved. Four pairs of eyes
- 20:17Speaker 2: are on them as they emerge onto the beach. Four
- 20:20Speaker 2: pairs of eyes attached to a single barrel-shaped head. The
- 20:24Speaker 2: head rises up from the quiet waters of the inlet,
- 20:27Speaker 2: several hundred yards offshore. Supported by huge coils, the head
- 20:31Speaker 2: rises farther out of the water. and a ripple of
- 20:33Speaker 2: excitement passes down a gigantic body. Then the head is
- 20:37Speaker 2: lowered until only the eyes are above the surface, and
- 20:41Speaker 2: the monster moves silently toward the beach. Meantime, Commander Corey
- 20:45Speaker 2: applies an atomo torch to the outer skin of the
- 20:47Speaker 2: spaceship's hull.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I think that does it, Happy.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Yes, sir.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Rough job, but it'll have to do.
- 20:58Speaker 4: It didn't take as long as I thought, sir. I
- 21:00Speaker 4: just hope we've got all those wires connected right.
- 21:02Speaker 3: We'll get back on the ship and make a final
- 21:03Speaker 3: test before we.
- 21:04Speaker 6: Try to blast off.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Take the torch, will you, Hathaway?
- 21:07Speaker 6: Thanks. Hold it, Hathaway. The tender examined the hull of
- 21:16Speaker 6: the ship. Yes, sir. I thought I saw something move
- 21:19Speaker 6: down the beach toward those big rocks. Huh? It might
- 21:23Speaker 6: have been a large seabird. Then again, it might not.
- 21:27Speaker 6: I had a glimpse out of the corner of my eyes.
- 21:29Speaker 6: There is something moving. It's a man falling along the sand.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Baccarati?
- 21:37Speaker 6: Yes. And the land goes right behind him.
- 21:40Speaker 4: What do we do? Rush him?
- 21:41Speaker 10: No.
- 21:43Speaker 6: Pretend you don't notice anything. Be very interested in the
- 21:45Speaker 6: ship's hull.
- 21:46Speaker 10: Then casually get into the ship before you're going after
- 21:49Speaker 10: more tools.
- 21:50Speaker 6: You want me to bring out a ray gun?
- 21:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:52Speaker 6: Keep them hidden, though. You wait for them to rush
- 21:55Speaker 6: us and then let them have it. Yes, sir. Smoking rockets.
- 22:00Speaker 6: Are they coming?
- 22:01Speaker 4: No, sir, but I just saw something else. Maybe I'm
- 22:04Speaker 4: space happy. One of those big rocks is moving.
- 22:09Speaker 6: If we weren't on Planet X, I'd think I was
- 22:11Speaker 6: having hallucinations. What is it, sir? There's no name for it.
- 22:16Speaker 6: Centuries ago, on this planet Earth, it would have been
- 22:18Speaker 6: called a sea monster.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's on land. At least part of it is.
- 22:23Speaker 6: Well, it's moving very quietly.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Commander, it's after Baccarati and Malingo. We'd better warn them. Wait.
- 22:31Speaker 10: We don't know how fast that thing can move. Any
- 22:32Speaker 10: noise or sudden motion might make it attack right now.
- 22:36Speaker 10: Get into the ship, Hap, and get a couple of
- 22:38Speaker 10: blast guns.
- 22:39Speaker 8: Yes, sir.
- 22:39Speaker 6: The boom slowly happens.
- 22:49Speaker 9: A hundred feet more and we can rush them.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Cory's there alone now. Keep your head down.
- 22:54Speaker 6: Just keep crawling. Keep low.
- 22:56Speaker 9: What's that?
- 22:58Speaker 4: Your Highness, it's a monster.
- 23:00Speaker 3: It's after us.
- 23:01Speaker 8: Run, Monaco.
- 23:01Speaker 6: Right between the rocks.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Run for the rocks.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Help.
- 23:09Speaker 8: Hurry.
- 23:09Speaker 5: Help.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Hurry, Happy. Get those blast guns. Coming, Commander. It's attacking them.
- 23:20Speaker 3: They've hidden between those rocks.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Spoken rockets.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Give me a gun, Happy. Here you are, sir.
- 23:25Speaker 8: Help!
- 23:26Speaker 5: Help!
- 23:27Speaker 3: They're still alive. Monster can't reach them.
- 23:29Speaker 4: If it had raised its head, I could blast them.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Hold it, Happy.
- 23:31Speaker 3: It might hit Baccarati and Malangro. We've got to get closer.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Come on.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Commander, it's trying to pull the rocks apart with its claws.
- 23:38Speaker 2: We can't waste any shots on this thing, Happy. I'm
- 23:40Speaker 2: going in close and divert its attention.
- 23:42Speaker 4: So be careful, Commander.
- 23:43Speaker 3: When it moves toward me, we'll both fire.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Help!
- 23:49Speaker 4: Commander!
- 23:49Speaker 3: Commander, here he comes. Let him have it, huh? Run, Commander, run!
- 23:56Speaker 3: He's down. We got him.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Keep away from him.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Watch out for his tail.
- 24:06Speaker 4: He's done for, sir.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Took a lot of doing. All right, Baccarati, come out now.
- 24:11Speaker 8: Oh, Commander.
- 24:13Speaker 3: What a dreadful creature. It nearly had us.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Commander, you saved our lives.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Yes, Commander. I'm very grateful.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Why, those awful jaws came that close to me.
- 24:23Speaker 8: Malangro and I were just going to surrender when that
- 24:26Speaker 8: monster charged us.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Cut it, Baccarati. We saw you trying to sneak up
- 24:29Speaker 3: on us. Now come on into the ship.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Yes, Commander.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Of course.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Wow, I thought we'd never finish that thing, sir. I
- 24:38Speaker 4: emptied my blaster.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Better collect a weapons hat. No, you don't, cadet.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Stand right where you are, both of you. Commander.
- 24:44Speaker 3: I warn you, cadet, don't move. Your Highness.
- 24:46Speaker 8: Don't be frightened, Malangro. Corey and the cadet are helpless.
- 24:49Speaker 8: Didn't they empty their breath guns into the monster?
- 24:52Speaker 4: Sorry, Commander. I had to open my big mouth.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Just keep your hands up, both of you. All right, Baccarone.
- 24:58Speaker 3: What are you going to do with us? Take us
- 25:00Speaker 3: to your castle?
- 25:01Speaker 4: Oh, no. I'm going to leave you here. Your Highness.
- 25:06Speaker 4: They did save our lives.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Shut up, Belango. I know what I'm doing. After all,
- 25:10Speaker 3: they do have an even chance for survival. You ungrateful coward.
- 25:15Speaker 3: You mean you'd leave us here on this beach, miles
- 25:16Speaker 3: from any settlement? It's all right, Hap. We don't ask
- 25:19Speaker 3: favors of space rats.
- 25:20Speaker 8: If you get hungry, you can eat sand. There is
- 25:24Speaker 8: plenty right over there where you're sitting.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Yes, Baccarati. We could eat sand. In fact, you said
- 25:32Speaker 3: a mouthful.
- 25:33Speaker 8: I can't.
- 25:33Speaker 3: My eyes. Get Belango happy.
- 25:35Speaker 4: Yes, sir. I'll take that ray gun, Baccarati.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Commander, honestly, I never would have left you here.
- 25:42Speaker 4: I was just joking to that.
- 25:45Speaker 3: You believe me, don't you?
- 25:46Speaker 4: Oh, sure, sure.
- 25:48Speaker 8: And that sea monster wasn't serious either. He just wanted
- 25:50Speaker 8: to play.
- 25:56Speaker 2: An action preview of next week's exciting Space Patrol adventure.
- 25:59Speaker 3: In just a moment.
- 26:03Speaker 8: Hiya, Space Patrollers. Fred Happy speaking. Listen, I got something
- 26:06Speaker 8: important to tell you. If you haven't already entered the
- 26:08Speaker 8: Name the Planet contest, you're missing out on the biggest
- 26:11Speaker 8: chance you ever had. A chance to win a gigantic

- 26:16Speaker 3: $ 1, 500.
- 26:16Speaker 8: And you're missing 750 chances to win a Schwinn bike.
- 26:20Speaker 8: So take off for your Weatherbird shoe store and get
- 26:22Speaker 8: your free coin album and contest entry blank. And then
- 26:24Speaker 8: zoom over and get some good hot Ralston. Remember, see
- 26:27Speaker 8: your Weatherbird shoe man and see your grocer for hot Ralston.
- 26:31Speaker 4: And hurry up. Do it now.
- 26:38Speaker 3: And now, a preview of.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Next week's exciting space patrol adventure. Cadet Happy is approaching
- 26:43Speaker 2: a small fortress in the jungle clearing on Planet X,
- 26:46Speaker 2: where Commander Corey is being held captive by Prince Baccarati
- 26:50Speaker 2: and Dr.
- 26:50Speaker 8: Malangro.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Baccarati glances through the gun port. Ah, you got company.
- 26:58Speaker 3: The fool, the little fool.
- 26:59Speaker 8: What are you talking about, Baccarati? Coming across the clearing
- 27:03Speaker 8: from the jungle. It's the space patrol men.
- 27:05Speaker 3: You're cadets.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Happy. Watch, Cory Malingo.
- 27:08Speaker 3: I'll take care of the cadet with this blast gun. Baccarati, don't. Look, Cory.
- 27:13Speaker 8: See what happens to those who defy the will of
- 27:15Speaker 8: Prince Baccarati?

- 27:58Speaker 2: In next Saturday and every Saturday when Instant Ralston and
- 28:01Speaker 2: Regular Ralston again present the new exciting Space Patrol. This
- 28:13Speaker 2: is Dick Tufeld in Los Angeles reporting on a plane
- 28:15Speaker 2: that can fly a thousand miles without refueling, the North
- 28:18Speaker 2: American FJ-2 Fury. In a moment, we'll hear from a
- 28:21Speaker 2: well-known test pilot on this Navy jet fighter, J.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Ray Donahue, Jr.
- 28:25Speaker 2: The Fury is a carrier-based plane armed with four 20-millimeter cannons.
- 28:29Speaker 2: It flies 650 miles per hour, has an altitude mark
- 28:32Speaker 2: of 45,000 feet.
- 28:33Speaker 3: It's length, 37 feet. Now, J. Ray Donahue, Jr., recorded
- 28:39Speaker 3: at Edwards Air Force Base.
- 28:40Speaker 5: To fly at supersonic speeds, a test pilot must have
- 28:43Speaker 5: plenty of energy. That's why I always get a good
- 28:46Speaker 5: night's sleep and start the day off with a good
- 28:48Speaker 5: breakfast cereal like rice checks or wheat checks. They have
- 28:52Speaker 5: plenty of energy, and they taste mighty fine.
- 28:54Speaker 6: And I know that you'll like them, too.
- 28:57Speaker 2: No other cereal, puffed or flaked, contains so much nourishment
- 29:00Speaker 2: in such concentrated bite-sized form.
- 29:03Speaker 3: So take a tip from J. Ray Donahue Jr., Bob Love,
- 29:06Speaker 3: and other top test pilots.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Make your cereals rice checks and wheat checks. Be sure
