- 0:01Speaker 1: Here we go five past the hour. It's the third
- 0:03Speaker 1: hour of the morning show with Preston Scott. Great to
- 0:06Speaker 1: be with you and I am thrilled to have in
- 0:08Speaker 1: studio with me. This is not our annual State of
- 0:12Speaker 1: the Knowles address as it relates to Florida State Athletics,
- 0:15Speaker 1: but we're going to get to certain things surrounding the
- 0:19Speaker 1: athletic program with Director of Athletics for Florida State University
- 0:22Speaker 1: Michael Alford. Hello, friend, how are you?
- 0:24Speaker 3: I'm doing excellent. How are you doing? I'm doing well.
- 0:26Speaker 1: You were up late last night?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Huh. I've been up late the last couple of nights,
- 0:30Speaker 2: coming in from Baton Rouge and getting home late. With
- 0:33Speaker 2: our women's basketball program, it just continues to get better. Sure,
- 0:38Speaker 2: they were so much fun. I had a great, tremendous
- 0:40Speaker 2: year and then heading to Jacksonville to take on the
- 0:43Speaker 2: Gators and get that win last night.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So it was a great, great evening to be a.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Knowll Since you brought up the baseball series, I've been
- 0:51Speaker 1: asked by a lot of people. Why the decision to
- 0:55Speaker 1: play this series as a one game two weeks, one game,
- 0:59Speaker 1: two weeks, one game that way, versus just back to
- 1:02Speaker 1: back to back.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's something that we've done here a while apparently,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and it's something that Lincoln and I have talked about.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I'm going to talk to Scott Strickland about it. Do
- 1:12Speaker 2: we go to a weekend series? Do we do a
- 1:14Speaker 2: weekend series home and home? Do we do a weekend
- 1:17Speaker 2: series in Tampa? What would you prefer? It really looks
- 1:21Speaker 2: at being on the Baseball Committee, and that's something that's
- 1:25Speaker 2: you take a look at. And you and I were
- 1:26Speaker 2: talking RPI and what a great win that was for
- 1:29Speaker 2: the RPI and something that we're help in that room.
- 1:32Speaker 3: At the end of the year.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I like best on best and a three game series
- 1:36Speaker 2: on the weekend to see Jamie Arnold, to see the
- 1:38Speaker 2: pitchers go against Florida at the end of the year
- 1:42Speaker 2: could help us. Now the backup of that both of
- 1:45Speaker 2: us play in the best two leagues in college baseball. Barnett,
- 1:49Speaker 2: I mean, you look at the Omaha for ACC teams,
- 1:53Speaker 2: for SCC teams, right, two of us RPIs and who
- 1:57Speaker 2: we go against weekend, week out on weeks are really hard,
- 2:02Speaker 2: So I see why they did it. Now you'd have
- 2:05Speaker 2: to move it to the beginning of the year. So
- 2:07Speaker 2: you're talking early first of the year, and you're talkingcounts
- 2:10Speaker 2: for all of the best pitcher of talking pitch counts,
- 2:13Speaker 2: you're really not getting because they're going to be on
- 2:15Speaker 2: sixty seventy pitch accounts to start the season off. But
- 2:19Speaker 2: still it's something to look at and say if we
- 2:20Speaker 2: can grow this rivalry by looking at it. And it's
- 2:25Speaker 2: something that we are examining.
- 2:27Speaker 1: This gathering you and I because we usually meet in
- 2:30Speaker 1: July early August and talk about the upcoming sports season,
- 2:33Speaker 1: and we'll do that. But this came out of a
- 2:36Speaker 1: desire to share with people the status of what's going
- 2:40Speaker 1: on at Dope Campbell Stadium, what's happening with the new
- 2:43Speaker 1: football facility, just kind of giving people an update. Let's
- 2:46Speaker 1: back up for just a second. What went into what
- 2:50Speaker 1: informed decisions made on the renovations at Dope Campbell Stadium.
- 2:55Speaker 1: How did you come up with the plan on what
- 2:57Speaker 1: you would do?
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, this goes back to two thy and twenty. We
- 3:01Speaker 2: hired a company CSL who does all the examine eight.
- 3:04Speaker 2: When the Raiders moved to Vegas. They go in and
- 3:07Speaker 2: look at the stadium. What can you hold? What phant
- 3:09Speaker 2: amenities do you want they do a survey. So we
- 3:12Speaker 2: surveyed our fans. Del Campbell was aging, and what do
- 3:16Speaker 2: you We had three amenities. You had a chair back,
- 3:20Speaker 2: club seat. You had a bleacher with a twenty seven
- 3:22Speaker 2: inch tread death which modern standards are thirty three. If
- 3:26Speaker 2: you said, in those bleachers, you understand your knees are
- 3:28Speaker 2: in someone's back, and yeah, and when he's six', five it's.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Worse it's. Worse you had a sixteen inch wide. SEAT
- 3:35Speaker 2: i don't think anyone could fit in that anymore like
- 3:38Speaker 2: they could seventy years.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Ago so the stadium was. Aging and we're not even
- 3:43Speaker 3: going to talk about the infrastructure.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Right that we were going in every year with our
- 3:47Speaker 2: architectural engineers and looking at and examining every year in
- 3:50Speaker 2: the money we were pouring and just reinforcing sections of
- 3:54Speaker 2: the stadium right to keep it to. Cold and when
- 3:58Speaker 2: you so we surveyed and it came back the amenities they,
- 4:02Speaker 2: Want and you got to, understand sixty percent of our fan,
- 4:06Speaker 2: base we lead the country in this stat sixty percent
- 4:09Speaker 2: of our fan base travels over three and a half
- 4:11Speaker 2: hours to get To dope on A, saturday no other
- 4:15Speaker 2: Than Penn state's the next closest the amount of people
- 4:18Speaker 2: that travel the distance to get here for a game Day.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Saturday where are they coming. From they're coming From Mercedes.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Benz they're coming From. Jacksonville only two and a, half
- 4:27Speaker 2: but they're coming From. Jacksonville they have the amenities. There
- 4:30Speaker 2: they're coming From, orlando they're coming From, miami they're coming From.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Tampa those stadiums have modern nice and that's something.
- 4:38Speaker 2: We had to do in dope and the overwhelming survey
- 4:41Speaker 2: back was we want different.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Amenities so you get the surveys. Back how much time
- 4:46Speaker 1: did you give for people to give you? Feedback and
- 4:49Speaker 1: how many meetings did you just like you're giving a,
- 4:52Speaker 1: talk you're making the circuit and someone pulls you to.
- 4:55Speaker 3: The side and they, say you know you need TO
- 4:57Speaker 3: i mean how much of?
- 4:58Speaker 1: That no one ever has any, idea no one has
- 5:00Speaker 1: anything they want to, say, Right so how long did
- 5:02Speaker 1: the gathering of information take?
- 5:04Speaker 3: Place it took about a. Year you.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Know we also were second most surveys that csl ever had.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Returned our fans really spoke up about what they wanted
- 5:16Speaker 2: and then in part of that survey was what amenute?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Is do you want lows? Boxes we put pricing. Examples
- 5:22Speaker 2: we put comparisons in, there, saying, hey here's how many loas.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Boxes this is the price at The university Of, texas
- 5:28Speaker 2: this is the price at The Dallas what range would
- 5:31Speaker 2: you be willing to?
- 5:32Speaker 3: PAY i, mean they were very in depth.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Surveys you, know WHEN i moved here in nineteen eighty,
- 5:38Speaker 1: seven we were at the very beginning of The Bobby,
- 5:41Speaker 1: bowden you, know era of. Success you, Know Coach bowden
- 5:46Speaker 1: obviously laid a lot of. Groundwork but one of the
- 5:49Speaker 1: THINGS i noted real, early BECAUSE i came From phoenix
- 5:52Speaker 1: and you've got that large metropolitan area IS i kind
- 5:55Speaker 1: of it's almost like you stand in the middle Of
- 5:56Speaker 1: tallahassee and look around and.
- 5:58Speaker 3: There's moving around, you.
- 6:00Speaker 1: AND i realized people have to make that. Drive AND
- 6:03Speaker 1: i don't think a lot of people understand what you
- 6:05Speaker 1: were talking, about how the drive into a football game
- 6:10Speaker 1: is a is a major event for people that Support Florida.
- 6:13Speaker 2: State, Correct and you look at the commitment they, make
- 6:18Speaker 2: not only monetarily but your time they come in, here
- 6:21Speaker 2: and it's so important that we keep them coming to
- 6:24Speaker 2: Tallahasse In Leon, county we represent over one hundred million
- 6:28Speaker 2: dollars in economic impact for six ball games to this.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Community we have to keep them. Coming what we compete,
- 6:36Speaker 2: Against we compete against that eighty six INCH hdtv that
- 6:41Speaker 2: you have on the back patio In, tampa, Right we
- 6:43Speaker 2: need you to make that drive From tampa up here
- 6:46Speaker 2: to support us and buy our season. Tickets so we
- 6:48Speaker 2: had to make this commitment for the future Of Florida State,
- 6:51Speaker 2: athletics future Of Florida state football to make sure we're
- 6:54Speaker 2: updating into the next.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Century take us inside that process of the surveys are,
- 7:01Speaker 1: back they tabulate the, results they spit out some kind
- 7:07Speaker 1: of spreadsheet or. Something what does that look like in
- 7:10Speaker 1: terms of what kind of data are you getting? Back
- 7:12Speaker 1: and then how does that inform your sticky notes on
- 7:16Speaker 1: what you put on the board of priority, one, two,
- 7:18Speaker 1: three four and so.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Forth, well it comes back amenities and modernizing the. Stadium
- 7:22Speaker 2: but then what they are so good at looking at
- 7:25Speaker 2: the surveys And i've used them at three different. Projects
- 7:27Speaker 2: we used them at The cowboys this. Company they were so.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Successful jerry just bought them and enjoyed them so, much
- 7:35Speaker 2: so they're now part of.
- 7:36Speaker 3: It he's now part of his. Will But i've used
- 7:40Speaker 3: them at other.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Places we use them at other Innovations i've, done and
- 7:44Speaker 2: they are always spot on when they say you should
- 7:46Speaker 2: have twenty Eight Founders loas boxes and this is your.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Price what did we have twenty eight Founders loage boxes
- 7:53Speaker 2: and we sold them Out and they're just always spot
- 7:56Speaker 2: on about through their analytics of what you need and
- 8:00Speaker 2: what services you should provide at that price.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Point, michael you mentioned the infrastructure as that's a. Given
- 8:07Speaker 1: you have to do the infrastructure, stuff the stuff that
- 8:10Speaker 1: people don't see but literally sit on rely on being
- 8:15Speaker 1: safe and. Sound how much did the infrastructure improvements that
- 8:20Speaker 1: were required For Dope campbell impact the design of the
- 8:24Speaker 1: amenities very.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Much, so because we needed water.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Concourses you're looking at seventy five year old steel in,
- 8:31Speaker 2: there and it's amazing to see just the. Advances so
- 8:35Speaker 2: when you go through the, stadium which i'd love to
- 8:37Speaker 2: get you through a, tour you go through and you
- 8:39Speaker 2: see the wider, concourses and you see the new steal
- 8:42Speaker 2: that we, have and then you look at the erector
- 8:44Speaker 2: set right around the corner that's still, there, right and
- 8:47Speaker 2: it's just amazing to see the advances that we've been
- 8:51Speaker 2: able to make through technology and building, materials and people
- 8:55Speaker 2: are going to get there and see these wide, concourses
- 8:58Speaker 2: you're able to move around the stadium is people that
- 9:01Speaker 2: have taken the tours have just been blown away of
- 9:04Speaker 2: what's coming in the.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Future give everybody as best we, can because we are
- 9:09Speaker 1: a visual. Medium what the expectations ought to be When
- 9:15Speaker 1: alabama comes to town for that first.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Game we talk at operations of the stadium.
- 9:19Speaker 1: More what they can expect to see when they walk
- 9:22Speaker 1: in that tunnel and look at the new Dope Campbell
- 9:25Speaker 1: stadium for the first. Time, well especially when you look
- 9:27Speaker 1: in the, back when you're looking at the concourse as
- 9:30Speaker 1: the wide the new concession. STANDS i walk through the
- 9:32Speaker 1: concessions and a tour the other day they're putting in the.
- 9:34Speaker 1: TILE i, mean this stadium is going to be ready
- 9:36Speaker 1: the end Of july they turn the keys, Over so
- 9:39Speaker 1: there's going to be events in.
- 9:40Speaker 2: It that's going to be, fun isn't. It In august
- 9:42Speaker 2: and getting, ready so give us time to get. Prepped
- 9:45Speaker 2: but they're really going to see just all kinds of different, amenities,
- 9:49Speaker 2: wider more, concessions social gathering, areas the club spaces because
- 9:54Speaker 2: now we'll go into those amenities that came. Back they
- 9:56Speaker 2: wanted club, spaces so we have the field level.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Club you might look. Familiar let talk what does that.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Mean so we gave every opportunity to every ticket holder
- 10:07Speaker 2: to come in and reward and we Have this is
- 10:10Speaker 2: a stat that's really, alarming and we talk about it,
- 10:13Speaker 2: internally but you go through, history AND i think a
- 10:15Speaker 2: lot of it has to do with the distance that.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Traveled we're one of the fewest season ticket holders as
- 10:21Speaker 2: far as numbers in our, conference not the. Country THE
- 10:24Speaker 2: Acc clemson has fifty eight thousand season ticket. Holders we
- 10:28Speaker 2: average about twenty. Six, really but you go through history
- 10:32Speaker 2: and that's always been the. Case, okay so it has
- 10:35Speaker 2: it changed a. Lot so we continue to push people
- 10:39Speaker 2: to buy season. Tickets but we went to our season ticket,
- 10:43Speaker 2: holders gave them the opportunity to purchase the new. Product
- 10:46Speaker 2: to look at the Whole West side. Collapse as you might,
- 10:50Speaker 2: know but you had the first opportunity we met with
- 10:52Speaker 2: you face to. Face that was very important to. Me
- 10:54Speaker 2: that we met face to face showed people what we were,
- 10:58Speaker 2: doing also showed them comparisons to where we. Were we
- 11:01Speaker 2: hadn't changed our season ticket. Price we hadn't changed our
- 11:03Speaker 2: donation levels in year twenty, years so looking.
- 11:07Speaker 3: At we were at the.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Lowest so if you took a seat at the forty
- 11:10Speaker 2: in the top twenty attended stadiums in the, country we
- 11:14Speaker 2: were number twenty in twenty five. Margin we're not asking
- 11:17Speaker 2: to go to, One we're not asking to go to,
- 11:19Speaker 2: ten we're not asking to go to. Twelve what is
- 11:21Speaker 2: asking to go a little bit to get us in
- 11:24Speaker 2: a fair fight with who we're competing against across the
- 11:27Speaker 2: country and continuously look to upgrade.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Both the new amenities gave us the opportunity to do.
- 11:33Speaker 1: That to.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Go now you're going to have thirty three inch seats to,
- 11:37Speaker 2: depth you can move around the, stadium you're going to
- 11:39Speaker 2: have chair, backs you're going to have club. Amenities you're
- 11:43Speaker 2: going to have what you wanted in the. Survey so
- 11:46Speaker 2: we had those three OPPORTUNITIES i talked. About we had club,
- 11:49Speaker 2: seats a suite or the. Bleachers now you're going to
- 11:52Speaker 2: have about fifteen different opportunities throughout the stadium to choose
- 11:55Speaker 2: what do you want as your amenities going into a,
- 11:59Speaker 2: game to walk in and see wider. Concourses you're going
- 12:02Speaker 2: to see, grand grand opening gates into. It you're going
- 12:06Speaker 2: to see club, Spaces you're going to see updated, concessions
- 12:09Speaker 2: easier concession. Lines, well you can get to them and
- 12:12Speaker 2: get out. Quicker WHEN i first took over as athletic,
- 12:15Speaker 2: director going through the revenue side of, things we only
- 12:18Speaker 2: had two hundred points of sell in the, stadium two.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Hundred let's take comparison To Tampa. Bay The bucks who
- 12:26Speaker 2: have less seats sixty five, thousand have fourteen hundred points of.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Sell good.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Grief for a stadium our, size you need on the
- 12:37Speaker 2: average about eight. Hundred we had two hundred points of,
- 12:40Speaker 2: seal which explains long, lines which explains what and lost
- 12:45Speaker 2: revenue and lost. Revenue, yeah so we're constantly and that's
- 12:49Speaker 2: not going to happen. Overnight we've got it up to
- 12:50Speaker 2: about five, hundred six. Hundred this is going to allow
- 12:53Speaker 2: us to get it up even more and get, closer
- 12:56Speaker 2: and we're going to continue to find where we can do.
- 12:58Speaker 2: IT a lot of it's Electric sure just don't have
- 13:01Speaker 2: electricity to do, Concessions so you got to pull. Lines
- 13:04Speaker 2: you got to work with the city to, say, hey
- 13:07Speaker 2: we need electricity here so we can do these. Upgrades
- 13:10Speaker 2: for our fan. Base so we're continuously pushing that envelope
- 13:14Speaker 2: to get as many fan amenities as we can to
- 13:18Speaker 2: make the experience that much.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Better anyone that walked in last year saw the west
- 13:23Speaker 1: side of the stadium somewhat gutted and kind of, Imagining,
- 13:27Speaker 1: yeah what we're going to see the east side of
- 13:30Speaker 1: the stadium still bleacher. Seating, yeah we've gone in last
- 13:33Speaker 1: year and put in dedicated chair space for the east,
- 13:36Speaker 1: side so you have a dedicated eighteen inch.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Chair on your.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Seat you don't have a chair, back but you have
- 13:43Speaker 2: a chair still sitting on the, Bleacher so we accommodated.
- 13:46Speaker 2: That last, year we put in handrails throughout the. Stadium
- 13:50Speaker 2: we were having issues AND i got so tired of
- 13:53Speaker 2: seeing reports at the end of the game how many
- 13:54Speaker 2: people fell down the.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Stairs because the tread. Depth once, again it was just.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Old and we fixed that and put in handrails for,
- 14:02Speaker 2: convenience widen the aisles for convenience so people can move
- 14:07Speaker 2: about the stadium a little. Better so all of this
- 14:10Speaker 2: was done with the fan attending the game as our.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Priority so we've gone from sixteen inches to, eighteen, yes,
- 14:17Speaker 1: sir and we've widened the everything in this in and
- 14:21Speaker 1: around the.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Stadium, yes even on the east side.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Too we're doing things in the concourse to put a
- 14:26Speaker 2: POxy coding on the concrete and Continue we're gonna paint
- 14:30Speaker 2: it next. YEAR i, mean there's all kinds of things
- 14:32Speaker 2: we have still in the works over the next few,
- 14:34Speaker 2: years and we've planned out to continuously to upgrade the.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Stadium two more segments With Michael, alferd director Of Athletics
- 14:43Speaker 1: Florida State. University we are talking about the, improvements the,
- 14:47Speaker 1: renovations the changes At Doe Campbell, stadium which has been
- 14:50Speaker 1: a centerpiece for this community since it was. BUILT i,
- 14:53Speaker 1: mean you, Know Bobby bowden took that football program to
- 14:57Speaker 1: a whole new level and that was a game. Changer,
- 15:00Speaker 1: yes it was a game changer for. Everything if that doesn't,
- 15:03Speaker 1: happen we're not having these discussions at. All we're kind
- 15:06Speaker 1: of Wake forest at that, point, RIGHT i, mean we really.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Are and that's no. Disrespect it's just with success come
- 15:13Speaker 1: out of responsibilities and you're in the process of sort
- 15:17Speaker 1: of steering a renovation project that is a lot bigger.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Than a few seats in a.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Stadium, yes take us beyond the east and west now
- 15:25Speaker 1: let's talk about the Dun Lap Champions club and let's
- 15:28Speaker 1: talk about those future plans you alluded.
- 15:30Speaker 2: To, well you look at when we did the analysis
- 15:34Speaker 2: of The Deadline Champions, club great, idea fifty nine hundred
- 15:38Speaker 2: club seats a little too. Much we were never more
- 15:42Speaker 2: than fifty one percent sold in. There the club space
- 15:46Speaker 2: could only accommodate thirty five hundred, people that's the, size
- 15:51Speaker 2: so it was always crowded if fan experience was not
- 15:54Speaker 2: what we expected. There so we looked at renovations and
- 15:57Speaker 2: that was part of the study, too of what new product.
- 16:00Speaker 2: There so now The Champions club has ledge, seating it
- 16:04Speaker 2: has new loge, boxes it has wider traditional club seats but,
- 16:10Speaker 2: bigger better, space and we went down to about thirty
- 16:13Speaker 2: seven hundred opportunities in. There there's nine different price points
- 16:19Speaker 2: in The Champions, club so you have different entry. Levels
- 16:23Speaker 2: some people want to Be i'm thirty, five got my.
- 16:27Speaker 2: BUDDIES i want a DIFFERENT vp experience than maybe The
- 16:31Speaker 2: Mahogany club that my dad sits. In you, know just different,
- 16:35Speaker 2: experiences different family. Atmospheres so we've really looked at, that
- 16:40Speaker 2: examined it. Hard those three middle sections on the top.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Level we had sixteen season tickets in those three sections
- 16:47Speaker 2: sold those three now sold. Out with the amenities that we're,
- 16:51Speaker 2: Bringing we've sold out the, seats THE ledg, seating the
- 16:55Speaker 2: different opportunities on that, side people are really excited about.
- 16:59Speaker 2: It so that's that you talk about walking into the
- 17:02Speaker 2: stadium in a different, look that's going to be a
- 17:05Speaker 2: different look and what we're provide on the south. Side
- 17:09Speaker 2: then you look at the west LIKE i talked, about
- 17:12Speaker 2: we've gone through an order and now we're to the
- 17:14Speaker 2: chairbacks and we just started that forty sold out on
- 17:19Speaker 2: the chair backs.
- 17:20Speaker 3: And renewals are going very.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Well what's amazing stat and What Mark cameron and our
- 17:26Speaker 2: staff has done a great job of leading this for
- 17:28Speaker 2: us is people who upgraded twenty eight percent upgraded their
- 17:35Speaker 2: membership to a different. Level that's about one in four
- 17:38Speaker 2: season ticket holders upgraded to a different. Level so that
- 17:43Speaker 2: tells you they're buying into what needs to happen and
- 17:46Speaker 2: what the new amenities.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Are two quick ones before we switch gears and talk
- 17:50Speaker 1: about the acc settlement With Florida state And. Clemson number,
- 17:57Speaker 1: one how much of this overall project is going to
- 18:01Speaker 1: be done come the start of this football, season it'll
- 18:03Speaker 1: be it'll be done more phases and so. Forth so
- 18:08Speaker 1: how much of that big total project is going to be?
- 18:11Speaker 3: Done half of? It you know me very, Well we'll never.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Done i'm constantly going to be walking around ask Ben
- 18:18Speaker 2: zer and Bend, as who is my project?
- 18:20Speaker 1: Manager, well how about, this based on what's on paper and,
- 18:23Speaker 1: plan how much of it will be done by the
- 18:25Speaker 1: start of this?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Season everything will be done for this season that we've
- 18:29Speaker 2: got on plan right? Now, Okay, now future plans are, coming,
- 18:33Speaker 2: okay and we've talked about. Them we're starting to design
- 18:36Speaker 2: to look at what we can do to accommodate the
- 18:39Speaker 2: east side patrons a little. More how do we get
- 18:41Speaker 2: more electricity? There so we're going to have more concession
- 18:43Speaker 2: stamp you. Know those phases are things we are talking
- 18:47Speaker 2: about and working.
- 18:49Speaker 1: On Right and then the football, building the football facility
- 18:52Speaker 1: that everyone's seeing going up behind the soccer field and
- 18:55Speaker 1: near the more. Center how what where are we at
- 18:59Speaker 1: in that? Product it'll be finished at the end Of.
- 19:01Speaker 1: August the team plans on moving in the bye. Week
- 19:05Speaker 1: we don't really disrupt, Practice, okay.
- 19:07Speaker 3: So the bye week we will move the team in
- 19:11Speaker 3: to that.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Space but it will be, finished and that's a great
- 19:14Speaker 2: time to because it gives us the opportunity to showcase
- 19:18Speaker 2: it to our donors without the team being in there
- 19:20Speaker 2: and they can see, it touch, it and fill it
- 19:22Speaker 2: and look really forward to. That but that's progress moving. Quick,
- 19:26Speaker 2: fact we had the least amount of football dedicated space
- 19:32Speaker 2: in THE acc forty thousand feet Compared Wake forest as
- 19:38Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty thousand dedicated football.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Space we had THAT.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I was making the football. Space the problem was over the,
- 19:46Speaker 2: years we haven't been making changes every year just to get.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Better and now with the support of The president and
- 19:52Speaker 2: chairman And collins and our board of, trustees laying out
- 19:55Speaker 2: of a plan of how we're going to get better
- 19:58Speaker 2: year by year and support that they have us to
- 20:01Speaker 2: continue to get better is really something that we're able
- 20:05Speaker 2: to now compete with our peers across the country and
- 20:08Speaker 2: showcase What Florida state has to.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Offer the litigation between The Atlanta Coast, Conference Florida State,
- 20:14Speaker 1: university And, clemson we'll Leave clemson out of the picture
- 20:17Speaker 1: as it relates To Florida State. University remind our listeners
- 20:22Speaker 1: what was at issue and what has been. Settled but
- 20:24Speaker 1: this is something we brought to the table three years
- 20:27Speaker 1: ago once again. Analytics you know, Me i'm a data.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Guy and when you look at THE tv, contract you
- 20:33Speaker 2: looked at what our peers had in the time they
- 20:37Speaker 2: were going to have another bite. Out The Apple big
- 20:39Speaker 2: ten contract comes up in twenty thirty Sec Contra tract thirty.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Four we weren't coming up again to thirty six and
- 20:44Speaker 2: they just had a new, contract so ours was very
- 20:48Speaker 2: dated and working with, it they weren't going to give
- 20:52Speaker 2: us any more money they had us till twenty thirty.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Six SO i went to the conference three years ago and, said,
- 20:58Speaker 2: look we're driving the media. Contract when you break it,
- 21:01Speaker 2: down it's seventy five percent, football twenty five, percent eighty
- 21:05Speaker 2: twenty To batman's.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Basketball that's what drives the media. Contract that's what they look.
- 21:11Speaker 1: At and you also had in your pocket that people
- 21:14Speaker 1: watch the brand known As Florida State.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Seminals when you.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Looked at it and broke it, down we were twenty
- 21:21Speaker 2: percent of the media value but only getting seven percent
- 21:25Speaker 2: of the. Revenue so we worked with the conference AND
- 21:30Speaker 2: i talked to the other eds and, said, look we
- 21:32Speaker 2: need to look to examine and do this, differently we
- 21:36Speaker 2: need to be the first conference to break up a
- 21:38Speaker 2: media contract and pay accordingly to Your nielsen. Rankings and
- 21:45Speaker 2: wasn't a great, idea they didn't think at the. Time
- 21:48Speaker 2: so later on as we, go left us no choice
- 21:52Speaker 2: to compete against our peers in the, country and seeing
- 21:54Speaker 2: where collegiate athletics was, going we did not want to
- 21:56Speaker 2: get left behind monetarily be able to.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Advance so how much of that television revenue makes up
- 22:03Speaker 1: the overall revenue.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Stream it's probably about forty percent.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Of our, revenue so it's a significant amount.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Of, money significant amount of. Money we didn't want to
- 22:12Speaker 2: lean on our donors who are always so awesome for,
- 22:15Speaker 2: us right and contribute to make up that. DIFFERENCE i,
- 22:18Speaker 2: mean that's that's not. Fair so we went to the
- 22:22Speaker 2: league and then we went through this process and came
- 22:26Speaker 2: out now we're going to look at the media. Contract
- 22:29Speaker 2: we have to go on. It we have to we
- 22:31Speaker 2: have to, perform Which i'm fine with, Sure But nielsen
- 22:34Speaker 2: rankings we broke up to sixty, percent we'll get divided.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Up and if you're one or two in, football WHICH
- 22:41Speaker 2: i will, say if you look at the past twenty,
- 22:43Speaker 2: years even last, year we were number two and add
- 22:46Speaker 2: a two in ten season in the rankings of most watch,
- 22:49Speaker 2: games AND i suspect that's not happening this. Year so
- 22:52Speaker 2: no last year to Inten, yeah but What i'm saying
- 22:55Speaker 2: is that there's going to be a better, season but
- 22:58Speaker 2: we were Still so if if we earn it by
- 23:01Speaker 2: playing brands ON, tv we're going to earn sixty percent
- 23:05Speaker 2: of that. Money so it will allow us to compete
- 23:09Speaker 2: with our top brands across the. Country you look at
- 23:11Speaker 2: the most watched over the last twenty, years there's eighteen
- 23:14Speaker 2: schools that drive fifty percent of the games Of nielsen.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Rankings were one of the eighteen. Schools so you broke
- 23:21Speaker 2: it down and it gives us the opportunity. Now but
- 23:23Speaker 2: also one THING i, stressed it looks at the league
- 23:27Speaker 2: to get. Better the league football needs to get. Better
- 23:31Speaker 2: there needs to be investments absolutely of what the old rising.
- 23:37Speaker 3: And they the.
- 23:38Speaker 2: League needs to play these games, yep and get out
- 23:41Speaker 2: there ON. Tv and this encourages the league to get
- 23:44Speaker 2: better in the sport of.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Football they need to think about. That with, basketball it
- 23:49Speaker 1: seems too Only duke has left in the. Tournament on
- 23:55Speaker 1: the men's, side.
- 23:56Speaker 2: That was one THING i WANT i pointed, Out, yeah
- 23:58Speaker 2: years ago is all fixable because you have more. Money
- 24:03Speaker 2: you can call it talent. Acquisition got more, money you
- 24:06Speaker 2: can hire the best. Coaches and you look at what
- 24:08Speaker 2: THE sec and The Big ten have. Done look at
- 24:10Speaker 2: players for four through eight that they've been able to.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Attract that's the difference in those, leagues that they've been
- 24:17Speaker 2: able to go to the mid majors and get those
- 24:19Speaker 2: players because they've had more resources to provide.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Them otherwise known as.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Nil and that's been the breakup or the advancement of
- 24:27Speaker 2: our leagues is going and attracting those. Players one through.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Three we can compete with, anyone, sure four through eight
- 24:33Speaker 2: there's a.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Difference can't wait for Our state of The nodles address
- 24:36Speaker 1: coming up this.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Summer we do always great to spend. Time thanks you all.
