Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Out of the Gates on Sport and State. Glad you're
- 0:02Speaker 1: with us. It's Hutton and Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 0:05Speaker 2: He's Withrow. I'm Hutton.
- 0:06Speaker 1: And we're ready for a big show today. Chad, good
- 0:09Speaker 1: morning to you, man.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Good morning, Hutt.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Plenty to get to. We've got Karen Krause. She's going
- 0:14Speaker 1: to join us from sportandstate.com a little bit later in
- 0:16Speaker 1: today's show. The chaos of the SEC. No one is safe.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Everyone's looking over their shoulder because, well, everyone can be had,
- 0:27Speaker 1: as you've pointed out. We Brooks Carter put together a
- 0:30Speaker 1: great graphic, and it shows just that.
- 0:33Speaker 2: The wheel of chaos. Check this out.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Everyone has had everyone throughout the season.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Week to week.
- 0:41Speaker 3: The transitive property no longer works at all. It didn't
- 0:45Speaker 3: work for a long time, but it certainly doesn't work
- 0:47Speaker 3: in the SEC this year. Look at that. The wheel
- 0:50Speaker 3: of death across the SEC from week to week. And
- 0:54Speaker 3: it seems like every week the team that is the
- 0:56Speaker 3: national darling of that just pulled off the big upset
- 0:59Speaker 3: or dominated some team. They're going to get had the
- 1:02Speaker 3: next week, so look out Tennessee and South Carolina this weekend.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Because if the process continues, that's exactly what's going to happen.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It's probably why South Carolina's favored in that game. Look
- 1:13Speaker 2: at the scores. That's the other thing.
- 1:15Speaker 1: It's very tight scores for the most part throughout the
- 1:18Speaker 1: Southeastern Conference. I would also add the opponent behind you
- 1:22Speaker 1: or in front of you is likely favored over you
- 1:24Speaker 1: no matter who you've had the win over. with Vegas.
- 1:28Speaker 1: We're seeing that right now with Tennessee and South Carolina.
- 1:31Speaker 1: By the way, Chad, Tennessee is 5-0 against South Carolina
- 1:35Speaker 1: coming off of a win against Alabama.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Does that matter this game? No. No, it does matter.
- 1:40Speaker 1: This is a brand new team. But Vegas likes to
- 1:42Speaker 1: throw those things out there. I saw that stat at
- 1:46Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bat. So use that for what you want
- 1:49Speaker 1: or what you will. But We're seeing this moving forward,
- 1:53Speaker 1: and that means more losses. I view it as a
- 1:56Speaker 1: solid win. I don't know where you fall down on this,
- 1:59Speaker 1: but the nine-game SEC schedule.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I love it. Fans, I'm sure, love it. Coaches aren't
- 2:06Speaker 2: necessarily loving it. I mean, television networks love it, right?
- 2:10Speaker 2: I mean, there's no doubt about it.
- 2:12Speaker 3: When you look around and see the eyeballs that are
- 2:15Speaker 3: on all of these games, and this past weekend is
- 2:18Speaker 3: a great example.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I mean, so many Good games.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Ole Miss and Missouri are two top 15 teams that
- 2:25Speaker 3: kind of get.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Buried on the daily schedule, right?
- 2:28Speaker 3: Like, it's crazy when you see game after game, you
- 2:32Speaker 3: just must watch television from week to week.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But, Hutton, you're right.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I mean, the downside to that is you're going to
- 2:38Speaker 3: take an extra loss probably. You know, even the really
- 2:41Speaker 3: good teams, you're going to have guys maybe a little
- 2:43Speaker 3: bit more beat up over the course of a nine-game
- 2:45Speaker 3: season when you can't play your starters for a quarter
- 2:49Speaker 3: against the Citadel regularly. You know, you get that one
- 2:52Speaker 3: extra cupcake game in there where you can just have
- 2:55Speaker 3: a big party and play your guys as long as
- 2:56Speaker 3: you want and get out. And that's something that Lane Kiffin,
- 2:59Speaker 3: I think, understands. He's seen his team beaten up this year.
- 3:02Speaker 3: They already have two losses on the season. So every
- 3:05Speaker 3: week they feel like they're playing for their playoff lives.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Here's what Lane Kiffin had to say about the nine-game
- 3:10Speaker 3: conference schedule.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Does it open your window a little bit more, though?
- 3:14Speaker 4: I mean, is there a plus to it at all? No.
- 3:17Speaker 5: It's not. You're in. to see teams with more losses
- 3:22Speaker 5: and more beat up. And there's so much into it
- 3:24Speaker 5: more than just the losses. You know, it's at a
- 3:27Speaker 5: time when because of it, I'm not complaining, I'm saying
- 3:30Speaker 5: what it is, because of portal that you can leave
- 3:32Speaker 5: every year in NIL, you see players going from teams
- 3:35Speaker 5: for more money and they go to another team in conference.
- 3:38Speaker 5: And that's fine.
- 3:39Speaker 2: That is what it is.
- 3:40Speaker 4: But at the same time.
- 3:40Speaker 5: That you see that where it's so hard for teams
- 3:42Speaker 5: to build depth after their top players, don't add more
- 3:46Speaker 5: conference games, you know, because now you've got what you've got.
- 3:51Speaker 5: And then you want to talk about not letting portal
- 3:54Speaker 5: players in, you know, in the conference also and limiting that.
- 3:57Speaker 5: We'll have no top ten teams.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yeah, Kip, you've got what you've got. Other coaches are saying,
- 4:03Speaker 1: hold my beer on that because you took what we had.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Well, and what I don't buy in all this is
- 4:10Speaker 3: if the SEC has a rule about not rating other
- 4:14Speaker 3: SEC teams for.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Their roster, you've got to go out of the conference.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Suddenly that would mean the SEC can't compete because they
- 4:20Speaker 3: can't go pick off other teams within the conference and
- 4:23Speaker 3: get transfers, I think is a little bit ridiculous. Now,
- 4:27Speaker 3: I would agree with them that if the SEC is
- 4:29Speaker 3: going to do this, I'd love for the Big Ten
- 4:31Speaker 3: to also implement the same rule because, let's face it,
- 4:34Speaker 3: that's where a lot of the desired players in college
- 4:37Speaker 3: football are going. And so if you're going to go
- 4:39Speaker 3: get someone you really want, a lot of times it's
- 4:41Speaker 3: going to be from one of those two places in.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Those two leagues.
- 4:44Speaker 3: And then you could still have the system where anybody
- 4:46Speaker 3: can upgrade their situation and you could go to a
- 4:50Speaker 3: lesser conference and go get the best player on those
- 4:53Speaker 3: teams that are veterans, right? And they could come in
- 4:55Speaker 3: and star for you right away. I mean, is he
- 4:58Speaker 3: on to something here or is this just whining from
- 5:02Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin? I think it's a little bit of both
- 5:05Speaker 3: because I do think it is a little bit of
- 5:07Speaker 3: whining that you have two losses and you're in this spot.
- 5:10Speaker 3: And he has had some bad luck with injuries. There's
- 5:13Speaker 3: no doubt about it. His I think it's sort of, hey,
- 5:19Speaker 3: I'm not complaining about it, but here I'm going to
- 5:21Speaker 3: complain about it and how this is not a.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Great thing for us in the SEC as coaches. Hutton,
- 5:28Speaker 2: I'm with you, man.
- 5:29Speaker 3: It's great for the fan. It's great for us to
- 5:31Speaker 3: sit and watch these games. We don't have to sit
- 5:33Speaker 3: through the cupcake games every week. If you're just a fan,
- 5:36Speaker 3: Kirk Herbstreit said it on College Game Day on Saturday.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Great day to sit here starting at 8 a.m. and
- 5:41Speaker 3: sit on your couch until 2 a.m. and watch Oregon
- 5:44Speaker 3: and Nebraska all through the day.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And he was right. It was the perfect day to do.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Just that and watch game after game. For that fan,
- 5:51Speaker 3: it's incredible with what the SEC is doing with the
- 5:54Speaker 3: nine-game schedule. For the coaches and everyone else, yeah, it
- 5:58Speaker 3: is more pressure-packed.
- 5:59Speaker 2: There are no weeks off.
- 6:00Speaker 3: There's no time to take a break in the SEC
- 6:03Speaker 3: schedule once it gets started. I would like to see,
- 6:07Speaker 3: is there going to be a three-loss SEC team that
- 6:10Speaker 3: gets in over a two-loss UCLA?
- 6:13Speaker 2: As an example, in the Big Ten. And I'll go
- 6:16Speaker 2: and show you UCLA's schedule.
- 6:18Speaker 3: If they won and then this was going to be
- 6:20Speaker 3: their best win was, let's say, over Oregon with a
- 6:23Speaker 3: third-string quarterback. If that's their best win on the year
- 6:27Speaker 3: and you've got a three-loss SEC team that also has
- 6:30Speaker 3: two to three great wins in the top 15, top
- 6:33Speaker 3: 25 on their resume, are you going to see the
- 6:36Speaker 3: committee this year? Granted, it's a one-year thing because we're
- 6:39Speaker 3: going to 24 next year, but are you going to
- 6:41Speaker 3: see them put that SEC team three-loss team in over
- 6:43Speaker 3: a Big Ten two-loss team. Because I'm looking up and
- 6:46Speaker 3: down the conference standings right now, Hutton. You've got Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee,
- 6:49Speaker 3: and Ole Miss with one loss. I think there is
- 6:52Speaker 3: a high likelihood that Kentucky, Tennessee for sure, and maybe
- 6:57Speaker 3: Ole Miss with their schedules ends up with three losses.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Just looking at their schedule.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Kentucky especially, I would say likely a 9-3 team if
- 7:05Speaker 3: I'm looking at their schedule right now.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Still a great season. Do they have a shot at
- 7:10Speaker 2: the college football playoff at 9-3? I don't think so.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Not if you're just going to make it an elimination
- 7:14Speaker 3: game of who has either no losses, one.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Loss, or two losses.
- 7:18Speaker 1: It depends where they are in the committee's poll prior
- 7:21Speaker 1: to that, the week prior.
- 7:23Speaker 2: That's what it comes down to.
- 7:24Speaker 1: How high are they in the top 12 for them?
- 7:28Speaker 1: That's what it is because they're going to fall, but
- 7:30Speaker 1: a third loss. The old saying that I say is
- 7:34Speaker 1: if you lose, it's how you lose. How did the
- 7:36Speaker 1: game go when the third loss happens late this season?
- 7:40Speaker 1: By the way, Lane Kiffin, don't leave Ole Miss if
- 7:43Speaker 1: you don't want two losses right now.
- 7:45Speaker 2: That's what I would say.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I would also say if you want to leave the conference,
- 7:48Speaker 1: be Lincoln Riley and GTFO if you don't like the schedule.
- 7:52Speaker 2: He knows that. Don't lose to Kentucky. Sorry, Jacob.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Don't lose to Kentucky. And, I mean, the idea that–
- 8:04Speaker 1: The nine-game schedule.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Is some detriment.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I would say with the recruiting aspect, you're also going
- 8:13Speaker 1: to save players.
- 8:15Speaker 2: A lot of players don't want to go play in
- 8:16Speaker 2: the Big Ten. They want to be in the SEC.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And they're not going to leave for Georgia because they
- 8:20Speaker 1: can't because they're going to stay at LSU. That, to me,
- 8:24Speaker 1: is also a benefit for a lot of coaches. And
- 8:26Speaker 1: if you don't like the nine-game schedule, go coach at Vanderbilt.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Go coach at South Carolina, Mississippi State, Arkansas. Go ask
- 8:34Speaker 1: them what it's like instead of coaching the LSU. I mean,
- 8:37Speaker 1: this is the last coach I want to hear discussing
- 8:39Speaker 1: about the schedule who wants to be an elite coach
- 8:42Speaker 1: and has yet to win a national championship, went to
- 8:44Speaker 1: a playoff last year and left his team.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Don't leave your.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Team if you want to win a title. I mean,
- 8:52Speaker 1: that matters to me. The other coaches, I understand where
- 8:55Speaker 1: they're coming from. It's going to benefit them that their
- 8:58Speaker 1: players aren't going to go in conference. I don't see
- 9:00Speaker 1: a lot of players bolting for the Big Ten. I
- 9:02Speaker 1: see a lot of Big Ten players coming in And
- 9:05Speaker 1: that's still the way to go if you're a coach
- 9:09Speaker 1: right now. I mean, look what Tennessee did on their defense.
- 9:12Speaker 1: They can still do that. Great players will want to
- 9:15Speaker 1: play in a great league. And I would say the
- 9:18Speaker 1: players probably want to compete against great players. What's it
- 9:22Speaker 1: like for the Citadel? Go get your brains beaten in.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Here's your $ 3 million check, and we'll see you next year.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin strikes me as a guy that he bitched
- 9:34Speaker 3: about the SEC championship game, saying that, hey, coaches, I
- 9:38Speaker 3: talk to coaches all the time, they don't even want
- 9:39Speaker 3: to play in the game.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I understand that. They better not do it.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Remember, he did that, and they went and lost to
- 9:43Speaker 3: Florida and lost out on the college football playoff the
- 9:45Speaker 3: next week after saying that.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Well, he got his way now. There's no more.
- 9:48Speaker 3: SEC championship game starting next year. All conference championship games
- 9:51Speaker 3: are going away. But Kiffin strikes me as a guy
- 9:54Speaker 3: that even when he gets rid of the championship game,
- 9:56Speaker 3: next year he's going to lose.
- 9:57Speaker 2: As the nine seed at home to the 24th seed.
- 10:01Speaker 3: And he's going to complain about, look what we've done.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Now it makes it harder to win a national title. Before,
- 10:05Speaker 3: I wouldn't have had that opportunity. I wouldn't have even
- 10:07Speaker 3: had a chance to lose in the first round at
- 10:10Speaker 3: home to this really good 24 seed that's 9-3 in
- 10:14Speaker 3: the Big Ten or 8-4 that comes into Death.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Valley and beat us.
- 10:18Speaker 3: There's always going to be some kind of excuse, I
- 10:21Speaker 3: feel like, with him once the things start to go south.
- 10:24Speaker 2: And look, LSU's good enough to win out. I mean,
- 10:26Speaker 2: they are.
- 10:27Speaker 3: I don't think they're going to do it with their
- 10:30Speaker 3: remaining schedule, but they're good enough, they're talented enough to
- 10:32Speaker 3: absolutely run the table and get to the college football playoff. But, yeah,
- 10:37Speaker 3: I mean, I think there's some truth in what he's saying,
- 10:39Speaker 3: but there's no way to not come across as a
- 10:41Speaker 3: complainer given their circumstances right now.
- 10:44Speaker 1: And trust me, Chad, the coaches don't want Lane Kiffin
- 10:46Speaker 1: as their voice of reason.
- 10:49Speaker 2: You know? Neither does the SEC. No, he's not the
- 10:52Speaker 2: new Saban. No.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Where Saban would talk on an issue and everybody perked
- 10:56Speaker 3: up and listened for their talking points.
- 10:58Speaker 2: That's not Lane Kiffin.
- 10:59Speaker 1: You know who likes the schedule is Kirby Smart. He
- 11:02Speaker 1: has said that he wanted the schedule like this.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Why?
- 11:05Speaker 1: Because he's not afraid of it. You know, he's got
- 11:08Speaker 1: the skins on the wall. And he's played the conference games.
- 11:12Speaker 2: And he's won. He's at the top. So is LSU.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Or they should be. That's what Kiffin is expected to do.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So I hear that. Look, I get that it's more difficult.
- 11:22Speaker 1: It's much more difficult. But don't you want that validation?
- 11:27Speaker 1: And it's a 2014 playoff coming up.
- 11:30Speaker 4: I don't.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You know, I realize that Sakey had some things that
- 11:34Speaker 1: he said that convinced everyone to go this way and
- 11:38Speaker 1: coaches were opposed to it. But take your check and
- 11:42Speaker 1: get paid to fail because that's what most coaches do.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Well, I think you look up and down the schedule
- 11:49Speaker 2: and you're right.
- 11:50Speaker 3: What you're saying, Hutton, if Lane Kiffin decided, hey, I
- 11:53Speaker 3: really want to win a national title.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Go coach at Florida State. Yes. If they actually had money.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Go replace Lincoln Riley. Don't dominate the ACC all year.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Stay fresh. Stay healthy.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Be a high seed in the college football playoff and
- 12:05Speaker 3: then make a three-game run at that point. That's how
- 12:07Speaker 3: you go do it. If you were afraid of the smoke,
- 12:11Speaker 3: get out of the SEC kitchen. Don't go from Ole
- 12:13Speaker 3: Miss to LSU. Go from Ole Miss to Florida State,
- 12:15Speaker 3: as I said.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Be Lincoln Riley. Yes.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Hey, so Ole Miss is a good example here, okay?
- 12:20Speaker 3: They got one loss right now, the loss at Florida.
- 12:23Speaker 3: But on their schedule, that's remaining. Keep in mind, right
- 12:26Speaker 3: now our perception is this could change, but when you
- 12:29Speaker 3: get the third loss, you're out. You're bouncing playoff consideration
- 12:33Speaker 3: right now. That's the way we think. They have one
- 12:35Speaker 3: loss right now, so they're.
- 12:36Speaker 2: In a good spot.
- 12:38Speaker 3: But on the schedule, this weekend they go to Texas,
- 12:41Speaker 3: who's licking their wounds and may have a new starting quarterback,
- 12:45Speaker 3: not named Arch Manning. Then they get Auburn at home.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Auburn suddenly looks like a little bit more of a challenge.
- 12:51Speaker 3: They get Georgia at home. All right, they've already had
- 12:55Speaker 3: their bye week, by the way, so no weeks off
- 12:58Speaker 3: in this. They go to Oklahoma, which is going to
- 13:01Speaker 3: be a challenge. Then they get Wofford, which is a
- 13:03Speaker 3: week off. And then they get Mississippi State in the
- 13:06Speaker 3: Egg Bowl. But I'm still looking at it thinking, boy,
- 13:08Speaker 3: Ole Miss in a great spot to make the college
- 13:10Speaker 3: football playoff. But I can see them losing at Texas
- 13:12Speaker 3: and to Georgia and then having three losses.
- 13:15Speaker 2: So then what do you do with a three-loss Ole
- 13:17Speaker 2: Miss team?
- 13:18Speaker 3: This is what Big Ten fans do not want to hear,
- 13:21Speaker 3: and they hate it that I'm even mentioning it. But
- 13:24Speaker 3: there is an argument and a consideration to be made
- 13:27Speaker 3: with a nine-game schedule for a three-loss SEC team to
- 13:31Speaker 3: get in over a two-loss Big Ten team. Just based
- 13:34Speaker 3: on the imbalance of schedules in that conference and the
- 13:38Speaker 3: way some schedules look for some of these teams.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And the scores, Chad. The final scores.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Again, it's not a bunch of blowouts and someone has
- 13:46Speaker 1: an injury at quarterback. It validates your point. These are
- 13:49Speaker 1: just top-of-the-line teams, and the middle of the conference is
- 13:52Speaker 1: far more difficult. than what we're seeing in other conferences.
- 13:55Speaker 2: So, UCLA. Perfect example, okay? UCLA's undefeated.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Their biggest win right now is at home over Wisconsin, 17-7.
- 14:05Speaker 3: At Oregon, 17-15. Oregon, we know their quarterback situation.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Not good. Those are by far their two best wins.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Outside of that, it's a lot of nothing.
- 14:14Speaker 3: They finish their season hot with Michigan State at home, Nevada,
- 14:18Speaker 3: which I don't understand how these Big Ten teams have
- 14:20Speaker 3: a non-conference game left, at Minnesota... Illinois at home, at Michigan,
- 14:27Speaker 3: USC at home this year. If they were 10-2 and
- 14:33Speaker 3: they lost to, let's say, at Minnesota, they drop one
- 14:36Speaker 3: and they drop one at Michigan. And their biggest win
- 14:39Speaker 3: is USC at home at the end of the year
- 14:40Speaker 3: and at Oregon with a third string quarterback. You mean
- 14:43Speaker 3: to tell me UCLA is more deserving than a three-loss
- 14:46Speaker 3: Ole Miss team that I just brought up with that
- 14:49Speaker 3: schedule and the games they would have won to even
- 14:51Speaker 3: get to nine and three? I don't think so. And
- 14:54Speaker 3: I think you have to look at this that way.
- 14:56Speaker 3: It cannot just be an elimination of, boy, they have
- 14:58Speaker 3: this many losses, so they're out and this team gets
- 15:01Speaker 3: in because they have fewer losses.
- 15:03Speaker 2: You've got to look at the whole picture.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I think UCLA is a shiny example of how weak
- 15:08Speaker 3: some of these Big Ten schedules are.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Well, and again, look at how competitive these games have
- 15:13Speaker 1: been within the SEC. Let's go back to that because
- 15:17Speaker 1: I would say, Chad, the final scores matter to me.
- 15:20Speaker 1: There are some blowouts in this, like with 45-17. There's
- 15:22Speaker 1: a 30-0 game.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I get all of that. But I'm looking at 31-24, 27-24, 20-17.
- 15:25Speaker 2: You've got 27-24 again. There are blowouts. There are also 35-34.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And it depends on the team.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It depends on when they lose, how they lose, and
- 15:44Speaker 1: how far they are in the rankings. I don't think
- 15:47Speaker 1: you're climbing up the pole as a three-loss team if
- 15:50Speaker 1: you lose late. But if you fall, I don't think
- 15:52Speaker 1: you fall very far and you'll knock someone else out
- 15:55Speaker 1: because it's deserving.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Totally agree.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Look, and I think you could also easily just sort
- 16:02Speaker 3: of wipe away like a blowout by Ole Miss. It's still–
- 16:05Speaker 3: Hard to fathom how Florida just crushed them the way
- 16:08Speaker 3: they did. And then for Florida to get crushed at
- 16:10Speaker 3: home by South Carolina, difficult to explain. Missouri beating some
- 16:15Speaker 3: teams down. That's when you say, well, it's a long season.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It's a nine-game conference schedule. You're going to have one dud.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Everybody gets one dud. You get one blowout loss. I
- 16:26Speaker 3: don't think you can look at it that way. I
- 16:27Speaker 3: think if you're comparing teams... And to your point, you
- 16:30Speaker 3: see one that all of their losses were by three points.
- 16:34Speaker 3: In very competitive, tough, physical games, you've got to give
- 16:38Speaker 3: them the edge over the team that might have that
- 16:40Speaker 3: one blowout loss if you're looking at the two of them.
- 16:43Speaker 3: You've got to just look at everything. The moral of
- 16:46Speaker 3: the story is if you're deciding between these teams, you
- 16:49Speaker 3: have to look at the complete picture of everything and
- 16:51Speaker 3: not just make this a race to see who has
- 16:54Speaker 3: the fewest losses by the end of the year.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 16:57Speaker 1: The game against Texas for Ohio State, It almost benefited
- 17:01Speaker 1: them in that loss. The talk wasn't about Ohio State
- 17:05Speaker 1: losing that game.
- 17:06Speaker 2: They were up in that game. And then we see
- 17:09Speaker 2: what Texas did in the fourth quarter.
- 17:12Speaker 1: To me, that doesn't receive a knock. like it would
- 17:16Speaker 1: if you lose late in the season. Chad, you know
- 17:18Speaker 1: the Tennessee schedule. I'm going to pull up the Kentucky
- 17:20Speaker 1: schedule because I'm curious about the one-loss teams.
- 17:22Speaker 2: While you do that, let me give you one more
- 17:24Speaker 2: Big Ten schedule. It's Iowa. Oh, good. Okay, UCLA, one example.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Iowa, another one. Iowa's sitting here right now at 5-1.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Their one loss was at home 31-14 to Ohio State.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Not particularly competitive in that game. They could theoretically run
- 17:39Speaker 3: the table here. At Minnesota, Wisconsin at home, at Northwestern, Purdue...
- 17:44Speaker 3: At Illinois, Nebraska at home. They probably drop one of
- 17:48Speaker 3: these games. But let's say they drop one.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Of those games. A 10-2 Iowa getting in over any
- 17:54Speaker 2: 9-3 SEC team based on their schedule. Any of them.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Whether it be Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas, Florida.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Go down the list. Any of those teams that are 9-3,
- 18:05Speaker 2: I would rank ahead of Iowa.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I would.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I'm not sorry about it, Big Ten fans, either. It's truth.
- 18:12Speaker 2: You put those teams over a 10-2 Iowa.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Well, okay, right now, one loss, Kentucky. Can they make
- 18:18Speaker 1: it through the rest of the schedule with only one
- 18:20Speaker 1: loss added to it with the two-loss team? Vanderbilt this week,
- 18:24Speaker 1: they have Tennessee after a bye. That's at Tennessee. They
- 18:29Speaker 1: will then host Florida. They then go to Missouri, and
- 18:33Speaker 1: then they host Louisville. That's a tough stretch based on
- 18:38Speaker 1: the SEC this year. With Florida and how they've been playing,
- 18:41Speaker 1: you've got Missouri– And, of course, Louisville is their rival.
- 18:46Speaker 1: But also, the game against Tennessee, to me, the team
- 18:50Speaker 1: that comes out of there has a realistic shot at
- 18:52Speaker 1: just keeping things.
- 18:53Speaker 2: To two losses, even if they drop one. Totally agree.
- 18:57Speaker 2: What does Tennessee have left?
- 18:59Speaker 3: Tennessee's got at South Carolina, they get a bye week,
- 19:02Speaker 3: they get Kentucky at home, they go to A & M,
- 19:05Speaker 3: they get LSU at home, they go to Vanderbilt on
- 19:08Speaker 3: Thanksgiving weekend to wrap up the season.
- 19:11Speaker 2: So they're two toughest opponents left.
- 19:13Speaker 3: I think this is their toughest game, this coming up
- 19:16Speaker 3: Saturday on the road at South Carolina with South Carolina
- 19:18Speaker 3: coming off a bye. They'll also get Kentucky in two
- 19:21Speaker 3: weeks off a bye. Their bye is lined up on
- 19:23Speaker 3: Halloween day. So I think their two toughest opponents are
- 19:27Speaker 3: Kentucky and LSU.
- 19:28Speaker 2: They're both in Neyland.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I think their toughest game is this weekend in South Carolina.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I look at that and I say they're probably going
- 19:37Speaker 3: to be 9-3, but they have a great chance at 10-2.
- 19:40Speaker 2: And if they're 10-2, they're absolutely in the college football playoff.
- 19:43Speaker 3: But if I had to play the odds, I'm thinking
- 19:46Speaker 3: they're going to drop two of those games. They're going
- 19:49Speaker 3: to beat an L.A. or Kentucky, one of the two.
- 19:51Speaker 3: They're going to beat Vandy at the end of the year.
- 19:54Speaker 3: They're going to go to A & M and win.
- 19:55Speaker 3: But 9-3 is more likely. Again, and we'll put this
- 19:59Speaker 3: as a poll question too. 9-3 Tennessee at that point
- 20:03Speaker 3: would have a win over Alabama. They would have a
- 20:06Speaker 3: win over Kentucky or LSU or both.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Auburn?
- 20:10Speaker 3: Auburn, who's looking better right now. Every SEC game is
- 20:14Speaker 3: going to look better. Either they go to A &
- 20:15Speaker 3: M and win, that's going to look better than any
- 20:17Speaker 3: of those wins outside of UCLA at Oregon for both
- 20:21Speaker 3: UCLA and Iowa. And the point that Kip is trying
- 20:25Speaker 3: to make is the difficult schedule.
- 20:28Speaker 4: And it is.
- 20:29Speaker 1: But it's also going to benefit you for not playing Wofford.
- 20:32Speaker 1: And keep in mind, to Chad's point about the scheduling
- 20:35Speaker 1: and the Big Ten SEC comparison, he just told you
- 20:38Speaker 1: Tennessee's toughest games are coming.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Up off of a bye against South Carolina. I'll do respect.
- 20:44Speaker 1: South Carolina and Kentucky. We're not talking Bama and LSU.
- 20:49Speaker 1: South Carolina and Kentucky. That's the middle of the SEC
- 20:54Speaker 1: right now. And when I say middle, I mean, that's
- 20:57Speaker 1: where you put those teams if you're having the hierarchy.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And right now, Kentucky's at the top with you. And
- 21:04Speaker 1: South Carolina, they're still playing.
- 21:07Speaker 3: But the middle of that SEC, the difference is the
- 21:10Speaker 3: meat of the SEC, the middle of that SEC.
- 21:12Speaker 2: You're right. You hear South Carolina, Kentucky, it doesn't give
- 21:15Speaker 2: you chills. It doesn't register.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Or you're shivering or anything. But those teams can beat anybody.
- 21:20Speaker 3: They've shown it. South Carolina on the road at Florida, Kentucky,
- 21:23Speaker 3: what they've already done this year. We've got to put
- 21:24Speaker 3: some respect on their name the rest of the season.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Those teams can beat anybody. The middle of the Big
- 21:30Speaker 3: Ten is Purdue– Wisconsin, Minnesota.
- 21:36Speaker 2: And they're playing Wofford down the stretch. Illinois. I mean, Northwestern. Like, no.
- 21:43Speaker 2: These are not the same when you look at the
- 21:45Speaker 2: conference top to bottom.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Kiffin can go to the Big Ten. He can vote
- 21:47Speaker 1: for the Big Ten to play Wofford if he wants to.
- 21:49Speaker 2: You know?
- 21:52Speaker 3: Again, the best route to sum this up with Lane
- 21:55Speaker 3: Kiffin's original comments, if you really want to just guarantee
- 21:58Speaker 3: you're going to be playing for a college football championship
- 22:01Speaker 3: every year, go to the ACC.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Go to one of the top programs there.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Miami, we're not even talking about them other than at
- 22:09Speaker 3: Notre Dame, of possibly losing a game. I know they
- 22:11Speaker 3: had a battle on Saturday night against Florida State, but
- 22:15Speaker 3: you can go somewhere like that and you can run
- 22:17Speaker 3: the table or lose one or maybe even two games
- 22:19Speaker 3: and get in the college football playoff every year. Losing
- 22:22Speaker 3: only two games or even three games in the SEC
- 22:24Speaker 3: is going to be very difficult every single season, and
- 22:27Speaker 3: that's what you signed up for. This is the big
- 22:30Speaker 3: boy league. You're going to have big boy games every week.
- 22:33Speaker 3: You're going to have millions of people watching those games.
- 22:35Speaker 3: You're going to have a lot of high school prospects
- 22:37Speaker 3: and college players all over the country watching your program
- 22:41Speaker 3: with a chance for you to go get them in
- 22:42Speaker 3: the transfer portal. Also there's, there's good and bad with this.
- 22:45Speaker 3: And when you sign up for it, you're accepting that
- 22:48Speaker 3: the good outweighs the bad.
- 22:49Speaker 2: And you don't have Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama knocking down your
- 22:53Speaker 2: door for your players either. Correct. With this rule.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Um, Hey, if you want to win a title, stay
- 22:59Speaker 1: at Ole Miss. That's what I would say, too, last year. Chad,
- 23:02Speaker 1: college football vibes. The top five vibes right now. Plenty
- 23:07Speaker 1: of options off of this past weekend. Withrow's got them

- 24:28Speaker 1: featuring Withrow on his Friday night options. Now 15-1.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Withrow's Friday night college football locks coming to the Hardrock
- 24:36Speaker 3: Bet app very soon.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Have you already taken a peek?
- 24:39Speaker 3: You know, I try to savor the weekend first. I
- 24:44Speaker 3: wrote about this at Sporting State. You can read my
- 24:47Speaker 3: column on enjoying wins and not just immediately... getting to
- 24:51Speaker 3: the anxiety of everything else in the season and all that.
- 24:55Speaker 3: But Hutton, I will today. I'm going to take a
- 24:57Speaker 3: sneak peek at it. And by tomorrow, we go for
- 25:00Speaker 3: the bundle tomorrow.
- 25:03Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Actually, no. Screw that.
- 25:05Speaker 3: It'll be my lock, okay? It'll be by Thursday when
- 25:08Speaker 3: we reveal our locks. I'm going to go Friday night
- 25:10Speaker 3: for the lock.
- 25:10Speaker 2: It was last week. Yes. It was last week.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I wonder if maybe one of these teams will be
- 25:16Speaker 1: a part of the great vibes. I know one of
- 25:19Speaker 1: the teams, Tulane gave us great vibes on Friday night
- 25:23Speaker 1: for Wagon Wheel. I don't know if Tulane is going
- 25:26Speaker 1: to be in your top five vibes or not, but
- 25:28Speaker 1: they certainly gave you personally the victory feeling. Chad Withrow's
- 25:33Speaker 1: top five vibes across college football right now for you.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Let's go with it. Number one, BYU. BYU. What a
- 25:40Speaker 2: moment in Provo all weekend.
- 25:43Speaker 3: And for them to get the win over Notre Dame,
- 25:44Speaker 3: even if there was one second left on the clock,
- 25:46Speaker 3: which there was, there should have been one more play
- 25:48Speaker 3: for Notre Dame into the end zone. And I also
- 25:50Speaker 3: think that was probably pass interference in the end zone.
- 25:53Speaker 3: But I also see very commonly that refs are not
- 25:56Speaker 3: going to flag that in a moment like that at
- 25:58Speaker 3: the end of the game. They let you get a
- 26:00Speaker 3: little bit more handsy with the receivers in those big moments. BYU, though,
- 26:04Speaker 3: got to be feeling good. Undefeated right now, their remaining
- 26:07Speaker 3: schedule at UCF, Arizona State at home, at Utah, Baylor
- 26:12Speaker 3: at Kansas, Cincinnati at home. I mean, 11-1, even if
- 26:17Speaker 3: they lose at Utah, that's going to be the toughest
- 26:19Speaker 3: game left. Unless it's going to be a monumental upset
- 26:24Speaker 3: if any of these other teams beat them, right?
- 26:25Speaker 2: They're going to be heavy favorites in every game except
- 26:27Speaker 2: the game at Utah. They could be number one in
- 26:29Speaker 2: the country.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they're number two right now. They're number two right now.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I think behind Miami.
- 26:34Speaker 3: This could be like 1984 all over again where BYU
- 26:37Speaker 3: won the national title.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I could see that happening with this team. Oh, Bear.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Bear's getting it done. Number two, the Tennessee Vols.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Look, they were smoking cigars on the field, which I
- 26:48Speaker 3: don't like, and I've had all the Tennessee fans tell
- 26:50Speaker 3: me as to why it's completely acceptable and okay. Danny
- 26:53Speaker 3: White said on the Jumbotron just not to tear down
- 26:56Speaker 3: the goalpost and to go out there and basically have
- 26:58Speaker 3: a little cigar party on the field.
- 27:00Speaker 2: That's great.
- 27:01Speaker 3: I also think we're being a little bit flippant about
- 27:04Speaker 3: a $ 500, 000 cigar party that gets paid to Alabama's athletic
- 27:08Speaker 3: department when Danny White's also going to ask the same
- 27:11Speaker 3: fans to pay a lot more money in ticket prices
- 27:14Speaker 3: next year because they've got to make the books work out.
- 27:17Speaker 3: But yet we're okay taking a $ 500, 000 hit. paying it
- 27:21Speaker 3: to Alabama so we can have a photo opportunity with
- 27:23Speaker 3: a cigar on the field that could just as easily
- 27:25Speaker 3: be done in the stands by the way with everyone
- 27:27Speaker 3: with the field as the backdrop when you take your
- 27:29Speaker 3: selfie I'm not anti-fun I'm anti-paying five hundred thousand dollars
- 27:34Speaker 3: to Alabama and I'm anti not looking like you've been
- 27:37Speaker 3: there before because as Mike Key said.
- 27:40Speaker 2: On the call Josh Heupel doesn't lose.
- 27:42Speaker 3: To Alabama at Neyland Stadium he's three and oh Against
- 27:45Speaker 3: the Tide in Neyland Stadium.
- 27:47Speaker 2: So this is becoming a lot more commonplace. And you
- 27:49Speaker 2: know what, Chad? I would say this too.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Alabama's just really the only team that gets the $ 500, 000.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I realize LSU is getting that from Kentucky this year.
- 28:00Speaker 1: But honestly, it's just Alabama that gets these payments. That's
- 28:04Speaker 1: the team that you're storming the field against when you
- 28:05Speaker 1: beat them at home.
- 28:07Speaker 3: That's why, look, I have a problem with it. It's
- 28:09Speaker 3: not about being anti-fun. We had a ton of fun
- 28:11Speaker 3: in Knoxville this weekend. We enjoyed cigars. We did the
- 28:14Speaker 3: whole thing. You can do all that. I just want
- 28:16Speaker 3: to act like you've been there before, and I don't
- 28:18Speaker 3: want to pay $ 500, 000 to Alabama. And I think if
- 28:21Speaker 3: you're a Tennessee fan that's completely okay with that, you're
- 28:23Speaker 3: probably lying to yourself a little bit about that. But
- 28:27Speaker 3: vibes in Knoxville are high. Amazing weekend, amazing scene with
- 28:31Speaker 3: Dixieland Delight playing on the field. All the different footage
- 28:34Speaker 3: of that game. You got Mike Matthews blowing up the
- 28:38Speaker 3: Alabama defender on the block. You've got Deshaun Bishop, the
- 28:42Speaker 3: shot of his eyes, seeing the linebacker. He was going
- 28:45Speaker 3: to run over into the end zone on the clinching touchdown.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Tennessee out-toughed, out-physicaled, everything. Kalen DeBoer having a complete psychological
- 28:55Speaker 3: meltdown on the sideline, apparently, during spooky Rocky Top.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Vibes are incredibly high.
- 29:01Speaker 3: I thought about putting Tennessee number one here, but because
- 29:04Speaker 3: BYU got that win in primetime and with their remaining schedule,
- 29:08Speaker 3: vibes are really high in Provo.
- 29:10Speaker 1: You good with BYU one, Hutton, Tennessee two in this? Yeah,
- 29:13Speaker 1: I totally agree with where you are on this.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Good.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Number three, UCLA. They get a close win against Wisconsin.
- 29:21Speaker 3: But also, UCLA doing it without Nico Yamileava. Out for
- 29:25Speaker 3: the season. And they got their backup quarterback in. He
- 29:28Speaker 3: didn't look great, but he's not nearly as mobile as Nico.
- 29:31Speaker 3: But he can spin it a little bit. The guy
- 29:33Speaker 3: they brought in in that game. But Wisconsin is better
- 29:36Speaker 3: this year. That's a good win. You're undefeated if you're UCLA.
- 29:40Speaker 3: you're feeling really good about life you.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Know who else is doing it without nico tennessee.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Nico's someone brought that up to me the other day
- 29:49Speaker 3: they said um boy you think that nico won the
- 29:52Speaker 3: trade with going to ucla considering they're undefeated i said
- 29:55Speaker 3: well he's out for the season yeah One, at UCLA.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Also, you have to.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Factor in, they went 3-9 in the first year. He
- 30:02Speaker 3: got beaten up throughout that year. So, no, I don't
- 30:06Speaker 3: think that he won the tradeoff with Tennessee right now.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Tennessee also in position at this moment to play in
- 30:11Speaker 3: the college football playoff, just like UCLA is in position
- 30:14Speaker 3: at the moment to play in the college football playoff.
- 30:16Speaker 2: And he's in California. He's not in Knoxville. That's true.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Knoxville's a better college. That's true.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Paying a lot more taxes in California also right now
- 30:24Speaker 3: than he would be in East Tennessee. Number four, Kentucky Wildcats. Well,
- 30:28Speaker 3: we can rinse and repeat this every single week.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Yes.
- 30:31Speaker 3: We keep waiting on them to drop the road game
- 30:34Speaker 3: or to lose in some way. They don't play great
- 30:36Speaker 3: on offense against a really good Oklahoma defense, but they
- 30:40Speaker 3: get the pick six late, and they're just finding ways
- 30:42Speaker 3: to win and gut out these close games. John Mateer,
- 30:45Speaker 3: by the way, credit to Kentucky, and I'm not trying
- 30:48Speaker 3: to take anything away from them. He's one of the
- 30:51Speaker 3: worst quarterbacks in college football this year. from what I've
- 30:54Speaker 3: seen at times. I mean, just horrible mistake after horrible mistake.
- 30:58Speaker 3: But Kentucky, vibes are very high in the bluegrass state.
- 31:01Speaker 3: And number five, Hutton, ever since that loss to Florida,
- 31:05Speaker 3: Ole Miss has just dominated people. They come to Nashville
- 31:08Speaker 3: and just ragdoll Vanderbilt, up 42-3 at halftime, and they're
- 31:13Speaker 3: playing backups in the second half.
- 31:16Speaker 2: They destroy Missouri, who's a very good team.
- 31:19Speaker 3: On Saturday all Ole Miss has done since that bye
- 31:23Speaker 3: week they got is they've gotten a lot better on
- 31:25Speaker 3: defense under Pete Golding and his leadership and they have
- 31:29Speaker 3: destroyed teams left and right so we were in Oxford
- 31:31Speaker 3: Mississippi earlier this year where the vibes were as high
- 31:33Speaker 3: as they will be at any spot in college football
- 31:36Speaker 3: this season They're incredibly high there right now with the
- 31:38Speaker 3: way that team is playing.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yes, they are.
- 31:41Speaker 1: The way that they came off the bye week locked
- 31:43Speaker 1: in against Vanderbilt, and it's not like they won the game.
- 31:46Speaker 2: That's not my point.
- 31:47Speaker 1: What was it, 42? They put up 42, 45 points
- 31:51Speaker 1: in the first half?
- 31:52Speaker 2: 42-3, I think it was, at halftime.
- 31:53Speaker 1: The way they started that game, I don't care who
- 31:56Speaker 1: they're playing. When you boat race somebody, it's not looking ahead.
- 32:01Speaker 1: You're not jumping forward on your schedule. and thinking that, oh,
- 32:04Speaker 1: we got this. Especially this year with all of the teams, Chad,
- 32:08Speaker 1: that are dropping a game here and there against inferior opponents.
- 32:13Speaker 1: When I say inferior, I mean it's the SEC, but
- 32:16Speaker 1: it's the mindset of who you're playing. Ole Miss didn't
- 32:19Speaker 1: do that. They've got them locked in. It was a
- 32:22Speaker 1: great job by goalie so far, and we'll see if
- 32:25Speaker 1: that can continue. I won't be shocked if they lose,
- 32:28Speaker 1: but I won't be shocked if they take care of
- 32:30Speaker 1: business too.
- 32:31Speaker 2: They're a very good team, very good. Very, very good.
- 32:33Speaker 3: On the flip side of the great vibes, there were
- 32:36Speaker 3: some coaches who took an L this past weekend. And
- 32:39Speaker 3: this is where all the things about Arch Manning getting
- 32:43Speaker 3: in trouble for laughing at the AI slop of Holly
- 32:46Speaker 3: Rowe getting slapped by Steve Sarkeesian and all the possible
- 32:50Speaker 3: negatives with AI. This is where AI and the internet
- 32:54Speaker 3: should be utilized. It's in videos like this that I
- 32:57Speaker 3: could not stop watching yesterday. And everyone in sports has
- 33:00Speaker 3: commented on this video and whoever did it on TikTok.
- 33:03Speaker 3: But here are the losing coaches from this past Saturday.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Marcus Freeman on the sax gets me every time. And
- 33:30Speaker 3: then the open mouth chuckle from Kalen DeBoer as he's
- 33:34Speaker 3: singing out the lyrics that they're all lip syncing to.
- 33:36Speaker 1: My favorite part, they nailed Sarkeesian too. It's just stone-faced,
- 33:40Speaker 1: just being a prick. It's perfect for Sarkeesian.
- 33:44Speaker 3: It's one of those videos that's quick and you can
- 33:47Speaker 3: watch it over and over again and you pick up
- 33:49Speaker 3: something different every single time. Signetti's facial expressions. He's doing
- 33:53Speaker 3: full Signetti looks the whole time. As he's singing. And
- 33:56Speaker 3: Kirby Smart's very stoic as well. But the Kalen DeBoer cutaway.
- 34:01Speaker 3: And then you realize that Marcus Freeman's playing the sax.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Yes. Gets me. Look at Cignetti's face. Look at Sarkeesian.
- 34:10Speaker 3: And also, you'll note at the end here, Cignetti with
- 34:13Speaker 3: the hand motion to end the video is great.
- 34:18Speaker 2: We got the smile from Marcus Freeman on the sax.
- 34:20Speaker 2: And then, there you go. Right there. This thing right
- 34:24Speaker 2: here from Cignetti. Amazing. That's funny, man. Pulling the train whistle.
- 34:29Speaker 2: The sign for the truck driver to honk the horn
- 34:32Speaker 2: when you were a kid. That's what Signetti ends with
- 34:35Speaker 2: in the song. Great stuff. That was fun.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Speaking of Sark, how about them giving more first-team reps
- 34:40Speaker 1: to a backup? This is, what, two weeks after Sark
- 34:46Speaker 1: is talking about how if Manning had a different last name,
- 34:48Speaker 1: he'd be a good quarterback.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Well, yeah, we wouldn't be talking about him. Nobody would
- 34:54Speaker 3: be criticizing him at all. And I'm thinking it's exactly
- 34:56Speaker 3: the opposite.
- 34:57Speaker 2: It's the opposite. He'd be benched right now.
- 34:59Speaker 3: If Chad Withrow had his stats and his play as
- 35:02Speaker 3: a starting quarterback at Tennessee, that guy would get benched
- 35:04Speaker 3: for KJ Lacey Jr. immediately and get this guy some
- 35:08Speaker 3: more reps. It's interesting timing, too, that his family school
- 35:11Speaker 3: is coming to town in Ole Miss. And when I
- 35:15Speaker 3: first saw that, I'm thinking, I would definitely bench him
- 35:19Speaker 3: if it was at Ole Miss.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Yes.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Because you're almost saving Arch Manning from that. If you
- 35:25Speaker 3: go there and play bad and lose on the road,
- 35:27Speaker 3: and it's your granddad and your dad and your Uncle
- 35:31Speaker 3: Eli's school that you look bad against, and then you're
- 35:35Speaker 3: out of the college football playoff race possibly with that loss.
- 35:39Speaker 3: But it's in Austin, and look, this is the right move.
- 35:44Speaker 3: They need to get someone else in the game and
- 35:45Speaker 3: see if it can light a fire with this team
- 35:48Speaker 3: because they're too talented to to be playing the way
- 35:50Speaker 3: they are on offense right now. And you've got to
- 35:51Speaker 3: evaluate every possibility if you're Steve Sarkeesian. And the biggest
- 35:55Speaker 3: possibility is you go with a different quarterback.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Speaking of vibes, we asked this question when we come back.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Does Matt Rule have a point about vibes? Straight ahead
- 36:05Speaker 1: here on Hutton & Withrow, presented by Hard Rock Bet.

- 37:06Speaker 2: Matt Rule, Nebraska, he's close. He's close. But they're not
- 37:10Speaker 2: getting over the hump, right?
- 37:12Speaker 1: Like, what's... They lost their focus on the sideline this
- 37:18Speaker 1: past week with the fourth quarter?
- 37:22Speaker 3: This is like an FDR fireside chat of press conference
- 37:26Speaker 3: appearances from Matt Rule. Some argue that he's completely crashing
- 37:30Speaker 3: out and he's losing it with this four-plus-minute answer to
- 37:36Speaker 3: a question about his team. I would argue that he's
- 37:40Speaker 3: making a ton of sense. with everything that he's saying.
- 37:43Speaker 3: He is a fast talker. He is a Northeastern guy.
- 37:46Speaker 3: So you've got to really follow along his train of
- 37:49Speaker 3: thought as he's telling you about the Nebraska football program
- 37:52Speaker 3: in all of this. Part of this stems from they
- 37:55Speaker 3: play the song Shout.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Right. Jump up and shout.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Animal House, which was filmed in Eugene, Oregon, at a
- 38:01Speaker 3: frat house there on campus, they pay homage to Animal
- 38:03Speaker 3: House by playing.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Shout before the fourth quarter.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Matt Rule saw UCLA jumping around to Shout, so he
- 38:09Speaker 3: told his players they could get on the field and dance.
- 38:11Speaker 3: to shout with the fans before the fourth quarter. It
- 38:14Speaker 3: looks fine if you hold on and win the game.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 38:17Speaker 3: But when you blow a 14-0 lead or 14-3 or
- 38:19Speaker 3: whatever it was, and you lose 17-14 in the fourth,
- 38:23Speaker 3: people are going to be talking about it. But overall,
- 38:26Speaker 3: we've all seen Nebraska. They are a program that seemingly
- 38:28Speaker 3: majors in losing close games for the last 10 years,
- 38:32Speaker 3: regardless of coach. They've lost close game after close game
- 38:35Speaker 3: after close game.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Here is Matt Ruhle. talking about his team.
- 38:40Speaker 3: And I want everybody to think to themselves as they
- 38:42Speaker 3: watch this, has he gone crazy or is he making
- 38:46Speaker 3: some really good points with where his football team is
- 38:48Speaker 3: right now?
- 38:49Speaker 6: I just want to make sure I'm not going to
- 38:51Speaker 6: live in the world of after the way the last
- 38:53Speaker 6: two weeks have gone. And I say that respectfully, I'm
- 38:55Speaker 6: saying for our players, they haven't gone anything.
- 38:58Speaker 2: We did them.
- 38:59Speaker 4: We played well enough to win and then we didn't win.
- 39:01Speaker 6: And so we are going to go back and we
- 39:02Speaker 6: are going to The standard of how we're going to
- 39:05Speaker 6: do things is going to not change. And it's going
- 39:07Speaker 6: to be we expected to win those games. We should
- 39:09Speaker 6: have won the last two games. We had a chance
- 39:10Speaker 6: to win the last two games. Our players, what I've
- 39:13Speaker 6: observed here is our players hear a lot of the
- 39:16Speaker 6: outside stuff and they start to feel pressure.
- 39:18Speaker 4: And the outside stuff is great. I'm not saying that.
- 39:20Speaker 4: And they start being like, oh, coach should have called timeout. Oh, no,
- 39:23Speaker 4: it's every freaking person. It's everybody.
- 39:26Speaker 6: Like I didn't call the timeout last week because no
- 39:28Speaker 6: one said, hey, call timeout.
- 39:29Speaker 4: That's the reality. of it, right?
- 39:30Speaker 6: No one said, oh, my gosh, we made a bet.
- 39:32Speaker 6: And the person that said the wrong person, no, doesn't
- 39:33Speaker 6: walk up here. But I don't mind taking it. I'll
- 39:36Speaker 6: take the bullets for my guys all day long. I
- 39:38Speaker 6: just want everybody in the building to be like, Coach,
- 39:40Speaker 6: I called the wrong person and we gave up a
- 39:42Speaker 6: touchdown because of it. And I want someone else to
- 39:44Speaker 6: be like, I'm running out of bounds and I should
- 39:45Speaker 6: be cutting back. And I want someone else to be like,
- 39:48Speaker 6: I'm not blocking a defensive end in pass pro that
- 39:51Speaker 6: I should be able to block. I want everyone doing that,
- 39:53Speaker 6: if that makes sense. Nothing happened to us, and there's
- 39:55Speaker 6: not going to be any victims. I let the guys
- 39:58Speaker 6: dance at the fourth quarter. I will never do that again.
- 40:02Speaker 6: I sat up, and I pulled them all up, and
- 40:04Speaker 6: they started running. I was like, get back in. Part
- 40:06Speaker 6: of our thing was UCLA did it. Coming off Indiana,
- 40:10Speaker 6: I was like, hey, we're going to play our tail off.
- 40:12Speaker 6: It goes back to what Coach Osborne said when he
- 40:14Speaker 6: first got here. Hey, you play physical for three quarters
- 40:17Speaker 6: to win the fourth quarter. And I was like, we're
- 40:18Speaker 6: going to be so physical in the third quarter, first quarter,
- 40:21Speaker 6: second quarter, third quarter, fourth quarter comes. They're going to
- 40:23Speaker 6: try to intimidate you with that song.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Have fun. Enjoy it.
- 40:26Speaker 6: Lock back in. And our guys got back in. We
- 40:28Speaker 6: didn't win the fourth quarter. And that's not my DNA.
- 40:31Speaker 6: And so, like, I have to own that. Like, I
- 40:33Speaker 6: was sitting out there.
- 40:33Speaker 4: I was like, get in here. Let's go play.
- 40:35Speaker 6: And then we get three plays on offense in the
- 40:37Speaker 6: fourth quarter. We give up a 16-yard drive and a seven.
- 40:39Speaker 6: We give up fourth and three on a shallow cross
- 40:41Speaker 6: we know is coming. We give up, you know, we're tackling,
- 40:44Speaker 6: you know, The defense can say, and I probably was
- 40:46Speaker 6: wrong even a little bit, Sam, at the end of
- 40:47Speaker 6: the game, because you asked me, I said, hey, we
- 40:49Speaker 6: got tired. They only played 43, 46 plays in the
- 40:51Speaker 6: first three quarters. We didn't get tired because the offense
- 40:54Speaker 6: wasn't good enough. And guys on defense early in the game,
- 40:56Speaker 6: they're trying to be positive. They're like, hey, offense is struggling.
- 40:58Speaker 6: We're going to have to go win it ourselves. You
- 41:00Speaker 6: had a chance to win it yourself, and you didn't.
- 41:02Speaker 6: And so that's the mentality I'm going to have with
- 41:05Speaker 6: our team. I expect us to have a chance to
- 41:07Speaker 6: win every game moving forward, and I expect every game
- 41:09Speaker 6: moving forward is going to come down to a winning moment.
- 41:11Speaker 6: I think we are a really, really, really good team.
- 41:13Speaker 6: We've got to be great in the important moments. And
- 41:16Speaker 6: I don't care if we're playing this team or that team.
- 41:18Speaker 4: It's not that. So I'm not going to allow in
- 41:21Speaker 4: that building the narrative of, oh.
- 41:23Speaker 6: Coach Orrick should have done this or Coach Rule should
- 41:25Speaker 6: have done this or the quarterback should have done this
- 41:26Speaker 6: or it's the O-line's fault.
- 41:27Speaker 4: It's the O-line's fault. It's Rule's fault. It's Orrick's fault.
- 41:29Speaker 4: It's Dana's fault. It's Jeep's fault. It's the quarterback's fault.
- 41:32Speaker 4: It's the receiver's fault. All of us.
- 41:34Speaker 6: We all have a thousand plays we can look back.
- 41:36Speaker 6: And so, yeah, the bye week came at a good time.
- 41:39Speaker 6: It came at a good time physically. But it came
- 41:42Speaker 6: at a good time to reset And not, poor us,
- 41:46Speaker 6: poor old Nebraska. Like LSU's sitting here right now 5-2.
- 41:49Speaker 6: They lost on the last play of the game against
- 41:51Speaker 6: Ole Miss, and they lost at a two-point conversion. They
- 41:54Speaker 6: get the benefit of the doubt, and they're probably, I
- 41:56Speaker 6: don't know what they are, 10, 15, 20. We don't
- 41:58Speaker 6: get the benefit of the doubt because we haven't earned
- 41:59Speaker 6: it yet, and we haven't taken it, and we're fine
- 42:01Speaker 6: with that. But we are a really good team, a
- 42:04Speaker 6: really good team that has to be better. And that's
- 42:06Speaker 6: the message in our room. That's the message out there
- 42:09Speaker 6: in recruiting. That's the message to the coaches this morning.
- 42:11Speaker 6: It was like, you have to be better. I have
- 42:14Speaker 6: to be better. We told them, hey, guys, they're going
- 42:16Speaker 6: to go empty tempo. They're going to take a shot.
- 42:18Speaker 6: McDougal flips the guy over. We said, hey, guys, they're
- 42:20Speaker 6: going to go empty four verticals with Haswai Juke with
- 42:23Speaker 6: an option run. Anthony Jones tips it and picks it off.
- 42:26Speaker 6: Our guys do exactly what they're asked to do when
- 42:29Speaker 6: we give them the right things to do. We have
- 42:30Speaker 6: to be better as coaches, and we have to be
- 42:31Speaker 6: better as players, but hopefully you can sense my energy.
- 42:36Speaker 6: I've watched the last couple years like, man, Coach Rule,
- 42:38Speaker 6: you don't win down the stretch. Well, I ain't the
- 42:40Speaker 6: one out there playing, right? Like, Players, you want to
- 42:43Speaker 6: win down the stretch? You go win down the stretch.
- 42:45Speaker 6: Don't listen to anything outside.
- 42:46Speaker 4: Watch the tape. I blocked him. I blocked him.
- 42:48Speaker 2: I didn't block him.
- 42:49Speaker 4: We gave up a sack. Block him. You know what
- 42:52Speaker 4: I'm saying? Block him.
- 42:53Speaker 6: And I say that because I believe in my players.
- 42:54Speaker 6: I want to make that very clear. You hear a
- 42:56Speaker 6: lot of coaches get up here and say things like, oh,
- 42:58Speaker 6: we're not executing. If you're not executing, who's that on?
- 43:00Speaker 4: It's on all of us.
- 43:02Speaker 6: Are we giving them the right things? Like the first
- 43:05Speaker 6: third down sand.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Option route. Main coverage. Quasi sees the option route versus
- 43:10Speaker 4: main coverage.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Breaks it.
- 43:10Speaker 4: He's wide open.
- 43:12Speaker 6: Number 52 for them is getting blocked. He puts his
- 43:14Speaker 6: hand up, tips the ball up in the air. We
- 43:15Speaker 6: don't convert the third down. I need the right guard
- 43:17Speaker 6: center to not let him put his hands up. I
- 43:19Speaker 6: need them to be more firm.
- 43:20Speaker 4: So it's just all of us, man. We got a
- 43:22Speaker 4: good team. We got to be better.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I mean, I get what he's saying. I don't see
- 43:27Speaker 1: that he's lost his mind in that at all.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:30Speaker 1: Um, You know, the accountability part at the beginning, it
- 43:34Speaker 1: does come across as if he's pointing fingers. But even
- 43:37Speaker 1: though he says, I'll raise my hand and put it
- 43:40Speaker 1: on me, or if he's not pointing fingers, Chad, he's
- 43:42Speaker 1: saying that his team's not very accountable. But, I mean,
- 43:45Speaker 1: he's stating the obvious, right? Like, Nebraska's really good, but
- 43:48Speaker 1: they're not great. And they're not great in the big moments.
- 43:52Speaker 1: And one bad moment, especially late in the games, that
- 43:54Speaker 1: tends to lead to a loss. And that's what's happened
- 43:57Speaker 1: recently with Nebraska, even though they're a really good team.
- 44:00Speaker 3: And I wanted to play the whole video because this
- 44:02Speaker 3: is a classic example of you could take two of
- 44:04Speaker 3: those clips and repurpose those and regurgitate it, and suddenly
- 44:09Speaker 3: Matt Rule has lost control, and he's throwing his quarterback
- 44:12Speaker 3: and his coaches and his players on the bus. Because
- 44:14Speaker 3: the first clip I saw was that. It was him
- 44:18Speaker 3: talking about the quarterback and the players. There's one clip
- 44:21Speaker 3: that we didn't even get all of it. There's another
- 44:23Speaker 3: answer he gives where he says, everybody talks about how
- 44:25Speaker 3: bad we are in close games. Guys, I'm not on
- 44:27Speaker 3: the field playing in those moments.
- 44:29Speaker 2: In close games.
- 44:30Speaker 3: Those are my players out there losing those games in
- 44:32Speaker 3: close moments. And he's tying it back into, it's all
- 44:36Speaker 3: of us. We have to coach better in those moments.
- 44:39Speaker 3: He says they get in their head because they're too
- 44:42Speaker 3: connected to the outside world and reading about what people
- 44:45Speaker 3: say about them choking late in games. And they start
- 44:48Speaker 3: to play worse because they start to feel it and
- 44:51Speaker 3: think about it.
- 44:51Speaker 2: He thinks that's a problem with his program.
- 44:53Speaker 3: He accuses multiple SEC programs of already tampering with his quarterback.
- 44:57Speaker 3: And Jared Calandria, the guy who came over from UNLV,
- 45:00Speaker 3: he chastises the media at one point and kind of
- 45:03Speaker 3: brings it back, but he's like, you guys talking about
- 45:05Speaker 3: how bad the players are here around him does not help.
- 45:09Speaker 3: When SEC programs are coming in and saying, do you
- 45:11Speaker 3: want to play better players in the SEC and a
- 45:13Speaker 3: better teammate?
- 45:14Speaker 2: Then come over here.
- 45:17Speaker 3: He said a ton in that press conference. I think 90%
- 45:21Speaker 3: of it I would agree with. Here are a couple
- 45:24Speaker 3: things I highlighted, though. When you say UCLA did it,
- 45:27Speaker 3: as a reason for you to do it, that doesn't
- 45:30Speaker 3: track well with me, with the dancing going into the
- 45:33Speaker 3: fourth quarter. That's just funny to me that now UCLA
- 45:36Speaker 3: is the barometer for what we're going to do as
- 45:37Speaker 3: a program all of a sudden. Well, UCLA did it,
- 45:40Speaker 3: so I let our guys do it, and that was
- 45:42Speaker 3: a mistake. We're never going to dance that way in
- 45:44Speaker 3: an opposing field before the fourth quarter.
- 45:46Speaker 1: I'm going to go note by note with you on
- 45:48Speaker 1: this because I'm going to pick up there because you're
- 45:49Speaker 1: coaching softball. You know if you get outside of the routine,
- 45:54Speaker 1: if you lose the focus, you lose your edge.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 45:57Speaker 1: And this was totally outside their routine.
- 45:59Speaker 2: I don't think it's not because of the dancing. It's
- 46:01Speaker 2: because they've not done it.
- 46:03Speaker 1: I guarantee you, if they do it again, they're more
- 46:05Speaker 1: locked in coming off of that. But, you know, they're
- 46:07Speaker 1: running around. I'm imagining like a little league team running around.
- 46:11Speaker 1: You're trying to gather all the players together. That's exactly
- 46:14Speaker 1: what happened here. And, yeah, they lost their mental focus
- 46:19Speaker 1: for that moment. And they played bad in the fourth quarter.
- 46:22Speaker 2: And he prepared to do it too.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:24Speaker 2: It wasn't some spontaneous man.
- 46:26Speaker 4: We're on a roll.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Our defense is hunting. We're going to get up here.
- 46:30Speaker 3: We're going to start dancing around and they're just, you know,
- 46:32Speaker 3: going nuts before the fourth quarter organically. He said, I
- 46:36Speaker 3: told our guys before the game, Hey, UCLA did this.
- 46:39Speaker 3: We're going to go in and play fast and play hard.
- 46:41Speaker 3: And we're going to dance with the fans going into
- 46:43Speaker 3: the fourth quarter. We're not going to let them intimidate us.
- 46:45Speaker 3: I'm thinking, Oh, even worse. But he came back and said,
- 46:48Speaker 3: I'll never happen again. That was a mistake on my part. Um,
- 46:52Speaker 3: He said, you start to listen to, oh, coach should
- 46:55Speaker 3: have called a timeout. Coach should have done this. Coach
- 46:57Speaker 3: should have called a timeout. Talking about the Indiana game
- 46:59Speaker 3: a week ago. He says, no one told me to
- 47:01Speaker 3: call a timeout. And he said, my analytics guy didn't
- 47:04Speaker 3: tell me to call a timeout. The guy in charge
- 47:05Speaker 3: of that didn't tell me. So we're not talking about him.
- 47:08Speaker 3: And hey, I'm fine standing up here taking.
- 47:09Speaker 2: The blame for everything. Right. But I get what he's saying,
- 47:13Speaker 2: but you're the head coach. It's outcomes across.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Your biggest responsibility is clock management at times when you're
- 47:19Speaker 3: doing that.
- 47:19Speaker 2: You're not calling offensive or defensive plays offensively. you need
- 47:22Speaker 2: to know to call a timeout in that moment.
- 47:24Speaker 3: And if your dude didn't tell you to call a timeout,
- 47:26Speaker 3: you need to hire a new dude, whoever that person is, right?
- 47:29Speaker 3: That's still on you ultimately if something that big happens.
- 47:33Speaker 3: He also said, poor us, poor Nebraska, and that they're
- 47:37Speaker 3: not going to sit there and feel that way, right?
- 47:40Speaker 3: But that is like I'm married to a huge Nebraska fan.
- 47:44Speaker 3: I feel so bad for all of them.
- 47:46Speaker 2: It's terrible. It feels like, what did we do to
- 47:50Speaker 2: God to deserve this? Every single week.
- 47:54Speaker 3: My wife went to bed with four minutes left when
- 47:56Speaker 3: Nebraska up eight because she couldn't stay awake any longer.
- 47:59Speaker 3: She woke up early in the morning to watch the
- 48:00Speaker 3: end of it. and saw them collapse against Dylan Raiola,
- 48:05Speaker 3: a guy they gave millions to, who was going to
- 48:07Speaker 3: be the savior of the Nebraska program, who can't start
- 48:10Speaker 3: for Oregon, who got benched for a third-string quarterback he
- 48:13Speaker 3: was so bad. Then that third-string quarterback was so awful,
- 48:17Speaker 3: they reinsert him in the game. The dude becomes a
- 48:19Speaker 3: hero against Nebraska. And the media makes it like this
- 48:23Speaker 3: redemption moment. I'm like, redemption? Nebraska gave that dude everything,
- 48:27Speaker 3: and he left. There's no redemption here. This is satanic.
- 48:31Speaker 2: He's Patrick Mahomes, Jeff.
- 48:32Speaker 3: This is satanic if you look at this from a
- 48:34Speaker 3: Nebraska perspective. Like, no, there's no redemption. This is not
- 48:37Speaker 3: a Christ-like story. This is Satan being.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Involved in this if you're Nebraska. The guy who left
- 48:43Speaker 2: us is going to come back and.
- 48:44Speaker 3: Beat us, and then America is going to treat it like, oh, man,
- 48:48Speaker 3: this is a great story.
- 48:50Speaker 2: For Dylan Viola, I'm thinking, oh, my God. I say
- 48:53Speaker 2: all this.
- 48:54Speaker 3: It's a great fan base with a great tradition. I
- 48:57Speaker 3: legitimately feel bad for all of them right now, having
- 49:00Speaker 3: to go through this week after week in big game
- 49:04Speaker 3: after big game. So for Matt Rule to say, I'm
- 49:07Speaker 3: tired of the poor us, poor Nebraska, he compares it
- 49:10Speaker 3: to LSU. They got two losses too. No one's feeling
- 49:13Speaker 3: sorry for them about it. And they've earned it. They've
- 49:16Speaker 3: earned the ranking they have. We haven't earned it with
- 49:19Speaker 3: two losses. But we dictate the outcome. That's how we're
- 49:22Speaker 3: going to approach this. It's not He said at one point,
- 49:25Speaker 3: it's not happening to us.
- 49:28Speaker 2: We did it.
- 49:29Speaker 3: We've got to stop the mentality of this happened to us,
- 49:31Speaker 3: this happened to us. No, there are things we can
- 49:33Speaker 3: do to affect it too. So we're going to focus
- 49:35Speaker 3: more on that we.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Lost these games.
- 49:38Speaker 3: We did this late in the game, not, oh my gosh,
- 49:40Speaker 3: this is happening to us again. And look, if you're
- 49:43Speaker 3: a fan, you have to feel that way. I mean,
- 49:45Speaker 3: I totally understand. You're not out there playing. You're not coaching.
- 49:48Speaker 3: Everything is happening to you as a Nebraska fan. Matt
- 49:51Speaker 3: Rule's point is a good one. It's not happening to
- 49:54Speaker 3: us in this building. We take accountability for all of us,
- 49:58Speaker 3: the quarterback, the offensive guard, the safety, the analyst that's
- 50:02Speaker 3: supposed to tell me to call a timeout, the head coach.
- 50:04Speaker 3: Everybody in that building has to take ownership of it.
- 50:06Speaker 3: I thought it was pretty great. I know he's getting
- 50:10Speaker 3: crushed over a few of those little clips of it,
- 50:13Speaker 3: but I think overall what he's saying is correct, and
- 50:15Speaker 3: it's a good message to the team.
- 50:16Speaker 2: It's accountability.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Instead of pointing out excuses, you point and find solutions.
- 50:22Speaker 1: You know, like, that's ultimately what he's saying. I agree
- 50:26Speaker 1: about the clips thing.
- 50:28Speaker 2: You're right.
- 50:29Speaker 1: You can take that and really clip that up and
- 50:31Speaker 1: make it worse than what it came across as anyway.
- 50:33Speaker 1: But early on in that presser, he did come across
- 50:36Speaker 1: in that answer as pointing fingers, but he gets back
- 50:40Speaker 1: to his point. I just think he worded it wrong
- 50:42Speaker 1: at the beginning, where he's like, hey, what about this
- 50:45Speaker 1: other guy? And then he's like, I can say it too,
- 50:48Speaker 1: you know, but... Yeah, I mean, also, Rule could have
- 50:52Speaker 1: known to take a timeout, too.
- 50:54Speaker 2: You know?
- 50:55Speaker 1: It's also on him. But he's taking all the heat anyway.
- 50:59Speaker 1: That's the job of the head coach. That's how you
- 51:01Speaker 1: do it later in that answer. The Eagles are taking heat.
- 51:05Speaker 2: By the way, Matt Rule makes an annual base salary
- 51:10Speaker 2: of $ 8. 5 million.
- 51:11Speaker 3: And with incentives, he's set to make over $ 11. 7 million
- 51:15Speaker 3: as the head coach of Nebraska.
- 51:18Speaker 2: So.
- 51:20Speaker 3: What falls back on, and that's ultimately the thing, is
- 51:22Speaker 3: it's still on you. He does say that. He's like,
- 51:26Speaker 3: I'm not ducking responsibility too. But you're paid to assemble
- 51:31Speaker 3: a really good roster. Nebraska, they pay about as much
- 51:35Speaker 3: as Florida does for a roster. They're in the $ 35
- 51:37Speaker 3: million range. They're paying good money for that team. They're
- 51:41Speaker 3: not one of the 10 teams that are $ 40 million
- 51:43Speaker 3: plus in college football.
- 51:44Speaker 2: But if you look at that next.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Echelon of $ 25 million to $ 40 million roster– Nebraska is
- 51:50Speaker 3: in there with a lot of SEC teams. I like
- 51:56Speaker 3: what he's saying. It's not happening to us. They've got
- 51:58Speaker 3: to go do it. And they've got to go win
- 52:00Speaker 3: one of these big games. And they need to do
- 52:02Speaker 3: it in a close game at some point.
- 52:04Speaker 1: And if he fails, he gets $ 71 million if they
- 52:09Speaker 1: fire him.
- 52:10Speaker 2: That is crazy on the buyout. Not even an option.
- 52:13Speaker 2: That's according to Google. I feel like if you're Nebraska,
- 52:15Speaker 2: it's not even an option.
- 52:16Speaker 3: You stick with this guy and hope they figure out
- 52:18Speaker 3: and win some close games. Because they are far more
- 52:20Speaker 3: competitive than they have been in a lot of these games.
- 52:23Speaker 2: I agree with him. They're very good. They're just not great.
- 52:25Speaker 2: And he's trying to get them over the hump there.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Also not great. The Eagles flying Jalen Hurts with the
- 52:32Speaker 1: blood clot. We discussed this. And an example of the
- 52:36Speaker 1: spokesperson of the team and whether or not it's how
- 52:41Speaker 1: it should be handled. That's next here on Hunting With Rose,
- 52:43Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bath.
