- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Hi, thanks for having me.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: How are you doing today?
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: I'm good.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: I'm always bad at these like intros.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: I'm always like, thanks for having me.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: And I don't know what to say.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Okay, cool.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: That's what every single person says.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Or like you'll get like someone that's like very excited and like cheers or something.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, we're like, woo-hoo, okay.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: That's a bit it's like different energy, isn't it?
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I I'm very low energy, so like it I'm always surprised.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Well I'll come in with with I think I'm I'm feeling I don't feel low energy.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I feel I feel like I just mean in general I am.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, oh.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: What time is it there for you?
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Um what is it?
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: 7.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 7 p.m.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: No well that makes sense.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: I I just woke up like an hour ago, so oh really?
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: No, it's all good.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: I should get up earlier more.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to be a morning person, but I'm just not.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: I'm not a morning person whatsoever.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Especially like this last year.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: I think it's like, you know, people get give people who are not morning people so much shit for like, you know, like because they're like, you're only a good person, a smart person if you like wake up at 6 a.m.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: and it's like, no, it's just we're on different schedules.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: Like maybe I'm more creative and productive at night, you know, at like 2 a.m.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: But that's also not true because like when I'm staying up late, I'm like not, I'm just like watching like reality TV.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm not, which I don't know.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Maybe it is productive, but what you're watching at the moment, you watching anything good?
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Um last night I kind of watched a little bit of um drunk history, that show where people get drunk and like retell, like you know, you know that show.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: It's pretty funny.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: At least you're like half learning there.
- 2:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: That was and I rarely, you know, do that.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: So I guess that was thank you.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: I appreciate that.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Even though it might not be entirely accurate, but yeah.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: No, it's fun, yeah.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a great show.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: But sometimes I'm like, are they gonna run out of like history?
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: I guess history's always been made.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's so much, right?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Anyway, yeah.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: But anyway, you've come onto the show to talk about um the movie Shark Tale.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: You were like you were very excited to talk about.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Um so like well, first of all, it's 36% on Rotten Tomatoes uh from the critics, and 43% from the audience.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: So like the audience would like it's just above where just above the cutoff, but and the critics is just below the cutoff.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: So like you just made it in.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: I I I think well, okay, if you will get reviews on other websites though, they're a little higher.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Like if you don't look at Rotten Tomatoes and look at other websites.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: 6.0.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: 6.0%?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Oh no, no, no, out of 10.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: Out of 10.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: I was like, okay, that's really embarrassing.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, 6%.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: That's not bad.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: That's not a bad.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: I know it's weird, and I know it's like there are some like problematic parts, like stereotypes stuff, and that stuff like I only started realizing like as an adult, like re-watching it last night.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: I was like, oh wait, this is a little weird.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: But like as a kid, it was like a family favorite.
- 4:05unknown: Yeah.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: So were you young when it came out then?
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: So I was 15.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: So I don't I I never saw it until today.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was pretty.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was youngish.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, we uh my family just we watched it and then it was like our thing, and we would just like watch it on road trips and we'd like rewatch it multiple times.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: My dad loves quoting that movie.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: Like, like I remember like if um if I've like a partner or whatever that comes over, like meet the family, like somehow he'll end up talking about you know, like Shark Tale, you know, like quoting that movie.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: That's how they intro to the to your family.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: So it's a it's like a big deal for us.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: Um I'm sure it it like okay, now that I've seen it multiple times, now I'm like, okay, yeah, there's parts that are like cheesy and and weird.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: But I don't know.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: I think the thing that I really like about it is that like it's like a it's a kid's movie, but like it's not they don't talk like in high-pitched voices, or like it's not like a kid's movie, like with a lot of the scenes in it are very much like like how natural dialogue would be in like a yeah, a a movie for like not like adults, but you know, like family or or you know, yeah, but it doesn't pander to kids.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: No, like it doesn't it doesn't talk down to them.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: No, and I don't even know it maybe that's the pro part of the problem is that it's like you're not really sure who the audience is because like it does feel a little bit more mature sometimes, but also it's still fun, you know.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: That I think that's why we liked it is that like it's like it's it's kind of weird, you know.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: How do you do you know?
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Could you venture a guess at how many times you've seen it?
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Um maybe like more at least like more than 10 times, I don't know.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: Okay, my whole life, you know?
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: That's not bad.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: That's not bad, yeah.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, is it was it your one of your favorite kids movies growing up then?
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Or was it um was it just one that you wanted to pick because you enjoy it?
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: No, it was one of like my family's like favorite like kids animated films.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: So not just your family, it was you specifically you as well then.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: So like the whole family could have loved it.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the whole family, me, like it's like an inside like jokeslash meme or whatever for us now.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's quite interesting.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm trying to think of a fam a movie that we've had would have had as a family.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: I don't think we have one even.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: I feel like every family has like that one random weird movie that they obsess over.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: We probably do it.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: I'm just not thinking about it.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because when my as I asked one of my friends this and they were like, um, oh, like Pee-Wee Herman.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Oh, right.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: Um, oh no, my sorry, my email just popped up.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, Pee-Wee's uh, what is it called?
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: The movie.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I know it's Pee Wee's Big Adventures that was.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Like that was their like family, like, but I feel like that's a bit more normal.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: Like that movie was really like that character is like really like.
- 7:16SPEAKER_05: It's a very famous character.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: I I don't know, growing up, I was like, oh yeah, everybody loves Shark Gail, everybody knows this movie.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: And then like I'm talking people now, they're like, I never saw that, or like I didn't think it was that good.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, oh my god, have I been brainwashed?
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Like, maybe it's not that good.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: But I mean it came out the same year as Hitch, I think, which I loved at the time.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: Wow, that's 2004.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I loved Hitch, and but I think this was also like the time where I was getting into kind of um like the weird thing is I was so like the cast is like huge, and then I was getting into all of the the movies of the cast.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: So it's weird that I never got around to watching it.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's very strange.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, watching, yeah, because there are some really big names, huge, yeah.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: In like Will Smith, you know, like Robert De Niro, yeah, Renee Gelwiger, like Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Martin Scorsese for some reason.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, he it's so random, yeah.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: Um they're all great voiceover actors and actors.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: They are, they're all they're all very much suited.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: And uh, like, but it's it's so strange seeing Martin Scorsese voice a uh like a puffer fish?
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: A puffer fish, yeah.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: I feel like that's the exact character like I I could see him playing.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: Like, like all the I love how in animated films they kind of make the characters look a little bit like whoever's doing the voiceover.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: So you can see that.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: That's a more recent thing now as well.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: That's only in the last yeah, they don't they well because it's it's in the time of like the celebrities voicing characters, they didn't used to do it when like obviously when like there was lesser known people for voicing them, but like now it's all celebrities.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: But that's also like come about from kind of Aladdin onwards, I'd say.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Like when Robin Williams did it.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, huh?
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: That's interesting.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I definitely feel in that movie that there's like elements of like facial features and everything in the characters, which is cool.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: But but like yeah, like you're saying, like this one definitely like uses the facial features to very much heightens it.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like even at the end, like they have a bit or like because Missy Elliott and Christine Aguilera, like they do like the soundtrack's great too, and they like the soundtrack is very good to this.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they have music um in the in the soundtrack, and like you see the fish version of Missy Elliott and Christine Aguilera at the end, like singing, which is like really cute.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: It's like the little things, you know, like details that they like really paid attention to that I think are cute.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: I just love that it gives they gave Scorsese's character the eyebrows.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: That's what he's so synonymous with, is just like those, and then they kind of gave Renee Zelwega the lips.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: And Angelina Jolie like always put like a beautiful, like you know, hot, like animated, which is always weird.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: I I wrote, I was like, oh yeah, she makes me want to be vegetarian because she's like so such a hot fish, you know.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: So there's there's that, I guess.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: But you don't vegetarian.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: I oh I'm not yeah, I'm like looking at her, I'm like, okay, I can't eat sexy fish, you know?
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: Like you can't do that.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: But well, I mean, if they look like these people, uh these characters, they're like, Yeah, I probably couldn't eat fish, but no.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, yeah.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, so the basic premise for anyone who hasn't seen it is that um Will Smith's character, Oscar, is um he's like a small fish who kind of uh wants to become big, but not big as in like a big fish, but like well known.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Um in the kind of area that they are in the in the ocean, there's um like a mob of sharks and like players uh run by Robert De Niro's character, who's like the he the Don shark.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: And then Jack Black's character is his son, who um is a vegetarian, it turns out, but he's trying to keep it hidden.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: Um then Will Smith's character accidentally uh ends up in a thing where it looks like he's killed um Frankie, who's the brother, yeah, the brother.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: Who's like the more like the the non-veget like like the actual gangster.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: So he's go ahead.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: And so Oh no, go ahead.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: Oh no no, I was just yeah, no, he um oh that's all I was gonna say.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: You go ahead.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: And so and so like basically what happens is that that everyone suddenly thinks he's a shark slayer and he becomes like this very f he becomes really well known and like everyone's scared of him suddenly.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: So that's like the kind of the basic premise of the movie.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Um while also Frankie while also um Frankie's on the oh no, sorry, Lenny is on the is like hiding out because they think he's like they he's like gone missing or something, but he's just actually.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he feels he feels that the death of his brother is see what I mean?
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: It's like there's so like so many like mature themes.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: It is but it's it's like it's there's like death, there's love, heartbreak, you know?
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Like I was very surprised to see like a a fish actually like die in this like early on and like get killed.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Like straight up die.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the shark dies.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: And I know they try to make it funny because like when he dies, he's like, come a little closer or whatever.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: And Lenny's like, what is it?
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: And he's like, I'm so cold, and Lenny's like, that's because you're cold blooded.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: And they try to make it funny, but it's like it is still dark for like kids to see, like, you know, it's death, but it's animated, you know.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I feel like that's where you can explore these kind of themes, like for kids.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: It's like it's important to like see it, but like it's fun to do it, not fun, but you know, like you can do it through animation and like jokes and stuff.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just like if you look at it's it's a nicer way of approaching it as opposed to like Bambi or or Lion King or something, where they actually like it's very dark.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: Um it is, yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: It's a more it's a nicer way, it's like a nicer way into it.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Um, it also just shows how silly this movie is.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Um because he does that as he's about to die, he does like when he says I'm cold bluntly.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Make a joke.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then it gives him a slap on the he does give him a little slap.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: And then he does, he says moron and he dies.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, that's pretty much the story.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: But then there are like, you know, there's like the thing with um Angie like having a crush on Oscar, and then like Loa swooping in being the hot like gold digger fish.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: And like I know again, like it's like you don't like seeing that, like that stereotype of like the temptress and whatever.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: So it's like these things I was like thinking about when I was rewatching the history, but like as a kid, you don't really look into that.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: What as a kid did you love about it the most then?
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: I I think I just thought it was really funny, and okay, I think I thought all the little like puns were really funny, like yeah, um early on, especially it's a lot of puns.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like just like how they made the world like a human-like world under the sea, you know, like basically like sort of New York, like in in the ocean.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Um like they like they use like shellfish instead of cell phones, and like they have gup instead of gap, and like there's a sushi restaurant that isn't doing well, you know, obviously for obvious reasons.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Um like Kelpie Creams, like yeah, and like I don't know it's the characters well, Katie Current instead of Katie Current.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: I love yeah, Katie, yeah, they named her Katie Current, right?
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: And I think that she is voiced over.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, is her voiceover is by her, yeah.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: So I liked all of that and like how they like really made that world like so cute, and like like every like every time you rewatch it, you can like notice a new joke, you know?
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: So I think that's oh no, sorry.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: That's what you really liked about it.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I I I think that's the biggest thing that like stood out to me.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: And then after that, like just I thought it was I thought it was really funny in my opinion, growing up.
- 15:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, watching it.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: I thought the characters were all like really funny, and like like just the voiceovers were really good.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: So the voiceovers, yeah.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: I think that's the thing I liked most about it were the voiceovers.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: I think they're all perfectly cast for this.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Um it's all exactly like uh but then also like I was I've I was reading about it before, and it says that um where was it?
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: It said that James Gandalfini was considered for Don, Christopher Walken was considered the voice of Luca the octopus, and Sasha Barrancohn was considered for the jellyfish.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's interesting.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: And I think like Sasha Barrancone as the jellyfish makes a very different movie.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: That's so weird.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they would have to.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, obviously you can't make him because cause they're like like rastiferian, like jellyfish.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because it's it's um it's singing mali and yeah, but that makes much more like that would I guess they'd have to make him a t make them a totally different like jellyfish.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I see.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm looking at the the fishified products as well.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think you actually managed to name them all.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I wrote it down.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: I was like, I gotta remember these.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: Um but apparently the Katie Couric or Katie Current role was played by like different people in different countries, like a news reporter from like each country.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: They changed it.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Oh that's interesting.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh, like like in different languages, they have like not even in different languages, but like the Australian one was played by a different woman, the uh the UK version was played by a different woman, apparently, but like the version I saw was Katie Courick.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's interesting.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: It's weird.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: And then uh oh wow.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: There was there was a point in time where Richard Pry was considered to play the jellyfish.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: That's these yeah, these are kind of strange choice.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: I guess like well, you never know if like they were originally written the way they were, and then I'm sure they changed their or it just changed based on who they cast or whatever.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: I they I think they must have changed who they cast.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Uh changed as a change based on who they cast.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: God, there's so many people meant to voice Oscar as well.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: There's like way too many to name like Samuel L.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: Jackson, Usher, Ellen Cool J.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: Um I feel like Will Smith is like perfect.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: He's perfect for it, yeah.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Anthony Mackey, he would have been really young.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because he's like he's really like goofy and like I don't know.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: He he I like him in that role.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like his character's like a little bit similar to his character, I don't know, maybe in like Fresh Prince, but maybe it's just like Will Smith, like it's maybe that's that style, yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: But but it's very much like like I feel like there's there's still a uh I don't know, like what it but he's like you know, he's trying to be cool or whatever.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: Like, it's goofy, but like goofy trying to be cool.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: But he's got like a little bit of he's got something to him though.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just got like that just in that yeah.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: He he's got the entertainment uh factor to him.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Like you can watch him and uh you're you're enjoying watching him or listening to him on the in this.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: But like um, I wonder oh also, I don't think I wanted to say this costs 75 million dollars to make.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, really?
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Like, I mean yeah, I I think the concept is really unique, like it's really different and like I really like it as a plot.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: As a plot, yeah.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh, like so he accidentally kills this.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: I feel like it's really well thought out, like honestly, you know.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because it's because it's not just like what happens under the sea, like, oh, like fish.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: It's like you can make a whole human version of this movie, and like it would all make sense, you know, pretty like pretty much.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: And they pretty much made this movie before.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: That that's what was that was funny, is that like they are kind of playing at those like tropes that you see in like Hollywood, you know.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: They played at the gangster tropes, yeah.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: Which that and that is like I've heard, you know, a totally valid like critiques of like that that's not the you know, that's like a stereotypical representation of like Italian Americans, like that they're constantly tired of being portrayed as.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: Um But yeah, it's like I I kind of and I totally like get that too.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: I feel I and but I also saw it as like they're intentionally taking these different tropes from Hollywood, like you see you know, Hollywood movies that you see and then putting it in this one thing.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: They're like playing at it a little bit.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Have you seen a lot of the movie?
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, it's it's no, I was just gonna say like it's hard to like because sometimes when you're doing like satire, you you have to be careful so that it doesn't become the thing that you're making fun of, because then it's like oh, what's the difference, you know?
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: Um, but what were you gonna say?
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, have you seen a lot of gangster movies?
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: Like where you are you like familiar with the tropes then, or is it just something that you've kind of like are kind of aware of because of like general media?
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: I think more just aware of like generally.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: I think I saw a little bit of the godfather, but yeah, I mean obviously they're taking a lot of a lot of tropes from that for sure, right?
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um I think it takes a lot from like good fellas as well, which is funny because they brought in Scorsese and De Niro.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: Um a little bit of Sopranos, they got in so Frankie is Michael Imperio Imperioli, who is um one of the Sopranos characters as well.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: And so and also Luca Vin is Vincent Pass Pastori.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know how to say his name, but he's one of the sopranos characters as well.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: So they brought in a lot of the pick say.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: People from all those kind of things.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's interesting.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: But then like the core cast, I guess, are like.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: So Will Smith is obviously not doing any of that sort of stuff.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Jack Black's not.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Renee Zellweger's not.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: Andrew didn't have any.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: I think well Jack Black did um and yeah, I think they do a lot of voiceover stuff, right?
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: Like Oh no, no, I don't mean voiceover stuff, I mean uh like gangster movies or anything.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: They're not really part of any of those.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: But like sorry, you were saying Jack Black, he's done yeah, he's done a lot of voiceover work, hasn't he?
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he he did like Kung Fu Panda.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: Um right?
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: I mean that's that's like the main one that I remember.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: And Angelina Jolie was also in that one, I think, as like Tigris.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: Like this.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: That's right, yeah.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I forgot about that.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Apparently, um Will Smith and Jack Black were in a film together before called Enemy of the State as well.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Like a few like about six or seven years before this, so they already knew each other, they already had like a connection there.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, they definitely have like chemistry and the contrast between their voices on the because Jack, I mean obviously like Jack Black's doing a bit of a uh an exaggeration of his voice, but that's what like voiceover is.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: But like they definitely have chemistry with those characters, like the the contrast is nice.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: I think Jack Black's very funny in this movie.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: I like him.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: And he's like, I don't know, this is kind of uh the this was kind of when he was like starting to become a star around this time.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: And so I think it's good like this was right after School of Rock.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Um like everyone wanted him in everything suddenly.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: And so I get why I get why they put him in it, but at the same time, he's good for the role.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: So it worked out, you know.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then yeah, Will Smith was like still doing really well at the time.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: He's not like he's kind of like dropped off a little bit now, hasn't he?
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: I guess like maybe, but like yeah, I I guess he's I guess he has the their their family's like doing that is it red table, like their YouTube thing.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: I've never seen that.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's pretty that's kind of interesting.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: Um how they can they like talk about their family and like what they're going through and stuff, and yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: He's pretty cool.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: He seems Yeah, I like him.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: A cool guy, yeah.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: I would hang I would hang out with him.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: But do you know there was also plans for a sequel to this, but it kind of got dropped.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: I didn't know that.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: I don't I wonder what they would even do in the sequel, because I feel like I don't know, where where would you go from here?
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: I know, because the other thing is it's I don't think there's anywhere to go with it.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: Because I guess like they've established that like which honestly was a little bit like abrupt, like the way they ended it, where he's like Oh yeah, the ending is very abrupt.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's like, so we're cool, and he's like, Yeah, the the sharks like we're cool, and then they just get along, and like yeah, what?
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: But it's like that's where the you know it's a kids' movie part comes in.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: It's like you can't just like make things complicated and leave it like yeah, like if this if this were for adults, and like maybe they wouldn't have that like happy like conclusion.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: It would be like there's still like some messed up stuff happening, like they don't get along still, and it ends on this cliffhanger or whatever.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Like you can't do that to kids, they'll be like traumatized, they'll be like, What?
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: Like they have to get along, you know.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Although I think kids are starting to get used to it now with the Marvel movies and something like that.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Now they're like normalizing that.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Well, that I guess if they had a cliffhanger for that, but I think that was the whole point is to like wrap it up, you know, in a little bit.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: Of course, yeah.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: I think animated movies you kind of gotta wrap them up.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, because like I guess you if you were to do a sequel, it's like maybe you get like humans involved or something, like they're the big enemy now or something.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: That's true, yeah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: They would be the enemy as well.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Realistically, yeah.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: So like I guess that's where it could go, but then I don't know.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: Then it would be weird because like it just would like hurt your brain a little, you know, because you're like you're used to like the hu okay, so there's a human-ish world under the sea, but then like what would the humans be like?
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: You know, I don't know.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: The humans have like fish features, yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like yeah, it would be weird.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: So I think it makes sense that they didn't go with the sequel.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it it oh, but I'm quite surprised that they didn't in in because of how much it made.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: It made 374 million worldwide, which is a lot for its budget.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: Is that is that good based on oh, for its budget, based on 75 million?
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: It's it's like so they made a 300 million profit, I think.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: But also this kind of came out around the time of I guess like Shrek and Finding Nemo, I think.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Finding Nemo, yeah.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, which were huge, huge movies.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what my my dad always says, like, ah, well, nobody likes Shark Tail because it came around the same time as Finding Nemo, and everybody liked the other fish movie, you know.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: Do you like Finding Nemo?
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: We're gonna talk about it.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: We're gonna talk about it.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: You told me to Okay, we'll save it.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: Um that's not what I was expecting.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, yeah, so the fact that this did come around at the same time, yeah.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: That's a good point.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: I didn't even think about finding Nemo.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: It's like when you're yeah, that's that's always weird when that happens as well, isn't it?
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Like when when you get the two movies that are very similar in plot, and well this isn't similar in plot, but like it's very similar in style, um, and they come out like within a few months of each other or whatever.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: It's like, did you plan these, or did you did one of you plan this, or did you is it just pure coincidence that this has happened?
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's that that is weird.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: That's like it's like parallel thought, but then like for a whole it's it's hard because like with like stand-up or something, you can have parallel thought and you just like say the joke, and then you both realize that you both like have similar jokes and then you can talk about it.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: But then with like a movie, it's like there's so much that goes into the movie.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: And then like finally you release it, and it's like, oh well, I we're not I can't just delete a movie, you know, like a tweet.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: So you just want to make sure you get there first if you can attempt.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: So and I think it's like you can't really get caught up in like or like worry about whether my idea is gonna be similar to this other, because it's like pretty much nowadays, it's like every idea's similar and like unoriginal, so it's like might as well just do whatever you want because it'll end up being original because it's like your voice, you know.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: So might as well just go for it.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: Have you had that a lot in stand-up then?
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: Where you've like uh kind of had some some kind of parallel thought with someone else.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, well, when you just when you look at Twitter, like oh Twitter's the worst for it.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, everybody's doing like a version of someone else's joke.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, because it's like the the whole like temp Twitter like template is really like popular where it's like yeah, blank girlfriend, blank boyfriend, whatever.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Or you know, yeah, it there was one that was like sex is great, but yeah, but have you ever like gone to the grocery store at midnight?
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: Whatever, like you know, and then like people have their own version for that.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Um and I was like getting caught up in that, trying to make my own and and like I realized I don't love doing that because it feels forced.
- 29:38SPEAKER_05: I know what you mean.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: Excuse me.
- 29:40SPEAKER_05: I know it a lot, but I know what you mean.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it feels like I'm trying to, you know, it's like what's my take, you know, versus like just coming up with another, but then I'll like think I'll be I'll write something that I think is an original idea and not like a template and see like, oh, this has already been done.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Like I remember I like made this like like absurd, like meme that was like, instead of asking, like, how are you, ask this, and it was like a bunch of like weird like responses.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: Um, because it was based on like people saying, like, don't ask how are you, because that's like ask like how are you feeling, or you know, whatever.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: But like, yeah, but like, but and then like I I saw I posted my thing, but like this is when I was less involved in like the templates and stuff, and then my friend was like, Oh yeah, like people have been doing that, like that meme.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: They've been meme, like making fun of like that how are you thing for a while, and I was like, Whatever, but I kept it because I was like, it's still funny, like it's like I felt like mine was still different from the other ones because it was more absurd.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Um, those are always the better ones anyway, when it comes out a little bit more absurd, because it's like it's not doing the same thing as everyone else.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I yeah, so not to like put myself on a pedestal or anything, but it's like you know, like sometimes if I do happen to like run into like, oh well, this is kind of similar, it's like I don't know, everything is similar.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Like, I well, I can tell when it's like oh one of my friends um said was telling me, like, I think I get worried about whether I'm copying someone when like the punchline is the same, but like if the set because it's like you can have a similar like topic or setup, yeah, because there's so many things that are like if it's like a current event as well, especially.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like you know, the like dating is hard, is like a setup or like topic that like everybody can do, but then like what's your take?
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: You know, what's your exactly?
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: So anyway, yeah, that's why that's why I was I always think that with like SNL when people are like, oh, someone's uh someone's uh they've ripped off uh this tiny tiny video, and it's like, well, no, I doubt it, because it's just a very popular topic that they just kind of that's true, yeah.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: It's it's hard whenever like like really popular like shows, like you see stuff from like small, like you said, small memes or whatever on on Twitter, Instagram, like and and then you're like, oh, they already did that.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: But yeah, like you said, it's sometimes it's like well, they're not gonna have seen a video with like a hundred views or whatever and taken that.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: I really doubt it.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's true.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, you just have to like I don't know, analyze it critically and like, you know, consider all sides.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: So I do get I do get being that that on the other side and being like, oh, this is I've just done this though, and being upset about it.
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, that's it, it is it does suck because it's like, oh, like if you if you are a comedian who doesn't have a lot of followers and you put out something that's really funny and it it does well, but like not as well as it would if if like a famous TV show or like or even another comedian who has a lot more followers would post it.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: Like that happens all the time, where like it's not like they're intentionally copying that that person with smaller amount of followers, but it's like that does suck when it's like, okay, well, all I needed was like a few more eyes for this joke to like get so that's why I'm like honestly, I'm just like, I don't know what does well and what doesn't on Twitter because you can't like you can't predict like the algorithm, it's like sometimes it's really confusing, so it's like I posted something like a few weeks ago and it was like echo two likes, and that's why I just deleted it.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: And then and then someone else posted like the same thing like the a day later, but they had like a lot more followers or whatever, and it went viral.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Right, if it would have gone if I just had more than people when also when that happens, I'm just like, okay, well, I'm not trying to have like a scarcity mindset where I'm like, oh, this one joke that I did.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like I'll come up with another joke, you know, like it's fine.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: No, it's more like, oh look, look, this is what happened.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: Look, if if it's got more f if someone has more followers, it's more likely to go viral.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's yeah, exactly.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: You you grew you grew pretty fast on there, didn't you, as well, though?
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: I think so, right?
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I feel like what helped me is like having friends who have a lot of followers who are like I meet I met them through stand up and like they are like doing really well, and so like sometimes they would retweet me, and I think that's how I got more followers.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: And also funny on there.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: So thank you.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: I appreciate that.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: And I think I think having that audience though is like really important because you can be like super funny, have like no audience, and then just like not go anywhere.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um, but yeah, like I think that helped, and also eventually, like people were like, oh wait, like this person's an actor and they like host a kid's science show, and that's that's random.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: Like, but she's tweeting about like sex and like whatever, like that's interesting, you know.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: So it's like I had no idea about the show before.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: I just I was following you for the tweets, and then I was like, oh yeah, and now you host like oh you host that Netflix show.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's so weird.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: So I feel like that like that helps too to be like, oh, there's this this this is an interesting thing going on here, you know, brand.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: Um but um but yeah, so you know, we'll see.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: I I feel really like I'm having like major like writer's block like these past two weeks.
- 35:21SPEAKER_05: Really?
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: Um, but I don't know if that's because like everybody's just in this weird mood because things are like opening up.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: I well, I don't know about how it is over there, but like in LA, especially like just suddenly think like people are going out again, you know, people are getting vaccinated, and it's like there's this weird vibe, you know, like weird that's exactly the same here, something in the air, you know, and also like I don't know if it's like these could all be excuses for like just me being a bad joke writer this week.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: Like, I could just be like, okay, dude, just accept that you're not coming up with, you know, but but I do think it's like a valid point.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh, and then also maybe people are being less online now.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: Now that things are opening up, they're like making more plans and they're not as like just on their phone liking stuff.
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've definitely I've definitely noticed that.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I've noticed like things in general are like not I don't know, blowing up as much or whatever.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: That's just that's just what I have been observing.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: So who knows?
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: I think it's true as well, because I I'm feeling the same.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: It's it's like a message.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: There is a weird vibe in the air.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I hope that goes away.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: Um, because I am also tired of like just like writing online.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: I kind of want to I like want to do live stand-up again, but also don't want to because it does make me feel anxious, like because I haven't done it like in a while, except for on Zoom, which is like I was gonna say if you don't need Zoom shows, yeah.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: It's just like a totally weird in-between, like we're never gonna I like when things open like safely open up and like stand-up starts back up.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, I don't know.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, do like do you feel like there might still be Zoom shows?
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: Because like for some people it it's it's just not fun.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: Like, I just but like it's an alternative, you know.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: I feel like they'll be around for a little bit, but like we've been talking about it with my as my improv team because we've been doing a lot of improv shows online, we've been talking to work out like what the best approach is because we kind of like we're all getting vaccinated at different times as well.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: Uh so like we're all not gonna be available to do these like in-person shows at the same time.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: Plus, like some people aren't comfortable with it still.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: So it's like, do we just continue to do some online and some in person?
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: Do we like just rotate?
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be strange.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it is strange.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: I've I've honestly feel like I've we've like totally gone on a different tangent here.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: Oh I don't know how I'm gonna circle it back to I'll circle it, yeah.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: Um, but I do feel like I've gotten used to them now.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: Like I've been doing Zoom acting classes too.
- 37:54SPEAKER_05: Oh, cool.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: And yeah, and so it's like we've kind of found the hang of things, but I'm honestly tired of like I just like I'm getting a lot of zoom fatigue.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: Like I can't be online.
- 38:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: Like the fact that I yeah, like I've just been I've been consistently taking Zoom acting classes and like doing some like very few like stand-up shows, but like or Zoom stand-up shows, but like for a few months now, or maybe like half of like the pandemic, or even most of it.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, that's a lot, you know?
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: So it's like, and we're not supposed to do this.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: Like the classes are supposed to be in person.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: That's how like as actors, we connect that way, you know, so it's a lot more engaging.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, I this is like slowly becoming a therapy session, but I'm like, you know, it's it's like it, it's we have like creators are just struggling with this, like, okay, well, if I take a break and then suddenly things come back, like, will I not be prepared?
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: But also, like, what's the point in like just pushing yourself to do something that you don't want to do?
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: Like, exactly, it's not gonna be fun anyway.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: You're probably not gonna grow anyway because you just don't like it, so might as well just take a break, you know, and watch Shark Tales.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right, yeah.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, good good segue.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, so I guess let's talk through the movie then.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: Let's go through the movie.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: Um, I think you kind of covered most of it.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, let's I was gonna like uh kind of yeah, because we did kind of kind of cover it most of it, but like what's kind of like your favorite moments of the movie then?
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Do you do Let me see?
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: I I um I love okay, there they're just random like moments, like quotes that are funny.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Um like there's there was a moment where he's like oh when Oscar is on top of when or after he pulls off that stunt, which I thought was really funny, like how in the middle of the movie, like they have to figure out how to scare the sharks, yeah, and also like give Lenny an excuse to disappear again or something, and so they like Lenny pretends to be a vicious shark, and then like Oscar pretends to like kill him or whatever, so that he can disappear.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: But then he accidentally eats him, technically, almost, almost, right?
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: And then he pushes the mouse open.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: But I think at some point he's like he yells, he yells like this is again like going back to like bringing back like Hollywood, whatever quotes, but he's like he says, Are you not entertained?
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: And then he goes, You can't handle the truth.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: But then the last quote he said was like he had me at hello, yeah, which like I didn't like I didn't even notice that until watching it last night.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: Because like when you're a kid, you're like, Okay, you don't notice that yeah, it's like he's just saying stuff, right?
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: But I'm like, oh, like that last quote's like obviously not like meant for this moment, you know.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: Um, which I thought that was really funny.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: Um and I really loved like the like again, it's so weird like that I'm taking this movie so seriously, but like like Angie and Oscar's like chemistry is just so cute.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: And like the moment where the moment when he's like when Oscar is like no or nobody liked me when I was a nobody, and then she's like, I did, I cared about you when you were nobody before the blah blah blah.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: Like that whole monologue was like so dramatic and like so like she said, but now you're fake.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, now you're fake, a joke, you know.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I I really liked and and like there was like a like Oscar's like now in like when he gets his fame, he's in like every commercial, right?
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: And he's like doing product, he's like endorsing every product, and there's like hemorrhoid cream, and I did not notice.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I didn't know what that was when I was a child.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: I missed that completely.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's like a blimp that goes by and it's like Oscar's like hemorrhoid cream or whatever.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: I completely missed that.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: And you're like, what?
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: But that is like the the epitome of like selling out, I guess isn't it like just yeah, and like that's so true, and that's when he was like, What am I doing?
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: You know, it's like I don't need this, you know.
- 42:16SPEAKER_02: Um I love the shrimp, the the little like yeah brand.
- 42:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like I've always those are so fun.
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: Those are the only ones I think.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: I was looking at the voiceover.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: That's like some he's not even like famous or anything, just some random guy.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the voiceover is pretty funny because he is good, he's a good voiceover.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: He it like they're like, you'll pay for this, or whatever, and then they come back at the end and they do like bite the sharks, which is yeah, his whole the little shrimps like monologue with the like baby shrimp or whatever is so funny.
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: And like I feel for it, the shrimp.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh you do have a little baby like shrimp that you're taking care of, you know.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: I'm sure people listening to this are like, what are they talking about?
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: This sounds so dumb.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: But it's it's not it's a I I I didn't think I was gonna like the movie, I quite enjoyed it.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: I didn't love it.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it's well, it's like outdated in many ways.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: Um I will say, like, I don't think I think it's rushed a lot of it in terms of story.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of it is it's like it's not detailed enough.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: And like you were saying, like it's obviously because it's a kid's movie or whatever, but I feel like it kind of holds it back a little bit.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, yeah.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: I just think they're gonna be a little bit more.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Definitely like go ahead.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: I just think they're kind of like missing um They don't establ I don't think they establish Lola enough.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: Um in terms of like the li as as a as a love interest of the tools.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: I don't think they kind of 'cause she's kind of like there in one scene to do seduce her.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: him then suddenly she's uh technically dating him but then and then the next scene she's is done with him and there's like the the there's like a few only a few scenes that you see with her and I feel like you could add more to that and add more to like the cat the more to the tension between Lola and Angie I feel like yeah do you think it would be interesting to see Lola be vulnerable at any time at any point because it's like this is the classic like trope of like you know that tantrus like she she just wants money gold digger but like if we were to see her like break down or like maybe realize also at the end like have a funny moment like at the end we don't really know anything about her as well that's another big thing we don't know about her.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: Do you think we're supposed to like do you feel like she's supposed to be just like an external like distraction for Oscar in a way like I mean I think that's what she's supposed to be but like I think it would be better off if we get did know her a little bit more it would add to it and add to like the tension between them.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: If we knew a little bit of a backstory to her but then again like it's like how much do you put into a 19 minute movie right right exactly no I totally feel you um I definitely think that whole end sequence is like kind of rushed.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah the end is like my biggest issue with it to be honest.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah yeah because like they just come together or whatever but like you know because it barely gets like one line he's like oh um you should be proud of your son no matter what and he's like okay I will be and then that's yeah and it's it's also like you know like as an adult looking at it there's definitely like hints at this is about like coming out or this is about like you know whatever but it's yeah that's definitely what it is yeah it is but then like if you say yes it's about that then there are moments where it's like oh well that's kind of problematic you know like like that's not how it works where you're like just love your son and then the dad's like okay I will you know it's like yeah that would not that's not if if there's a dad that's like adamantly against that in general it's not gonna be suddenly okay yeah accepting I think that's so that is really interesting how they chose to because that's obviously what they're kind of going for but like the fact that they did it with a vegetarian shark I think is like really interesting but also like could have been done a little better.
- 46:33SPEAKER_02: I don't know but it's like how I don't know if they were just trying to like subtly like allude to it because it's like kids are are not gonna recognize that so it's like are they they're doing that and at the time yeah but all and also like whenever Lenny like comes out to Oscar basically and is like I'm a vegetarian like Oscar laughs it off for at first but then he comes around and he's like no like it doesn't matter whatever.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: I don't think he does laugh it off does it he just kind of goes is that it yeah but he's like holding in his laugh he's like is that it yeah so interesting yeah um so yeah there's that whole thing that I think about that I think about that I'm like is that cool or is that like weird it's like it's a little bit weird is it yeah yeah it's a bit weird yeah it's it's like good intentions but not done in the right way right exactly yeah um yeah and then also there's like the stereotype of the characters as well so like Ernie and Bernie the jellyfish are a little bit like if it was I'm glad it's Ziggy Marley and Doggy Dog because if if it was you know like Sasha Baron Cohen that would be really problematic for like that would be strange.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: For sure I feel like they just like shoehorn any any references to Bob Marley though in this because yeah it's like it yeah they they are it does seem to be like I don't because see I don't know I'm not from that background personally so I like can't but like obviously like there does seem to be like tropes and stereotypes like that like the jellyfish in the in the movie.
- 48:18SPEAKER_02: So it's like yeah it's it's good to like just you know it's good to be like okay yes it's like a cute like animated kids film sure and it's funny blah blah blah but also recognize yeah there are some parts about it that are not cool.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: The biggest the biggest one I feel like is Sykes at the end when he's like dressed up as like oh yeah yeah and he's going yo yo yo yeah yeah yeah yeah that's I mean also I think like sometimes they were playing at this idea of like like I remember when Oscar was like doing that handshake with Sykes at the beginning and I didn't I didn't hear this when I was a kid but like later watching it was he like does it and like Sykes is not good at the handshake and then Oscar's like don't worry a lot of white fish can't do it.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah which like I think is kind of it's funny that's I feel like once you make fun of white people like I think that's fine you know in that way you know so I think again it it might have been that because I remember in the middle of the movie like Sykes is like dancing and he's like raised the roof and he's like dancing really badly and I get again that's another like middle aged like white guy being yeah just that you know so it just look it just looks a little bit off at the end I feel like that I guess like throughout the movie in in general in the movie it's like not that bad but then like why at the end.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah this because in the middle in the in the beginning it's like oh we know that we're making fun of him and then at the end it's like oh he's now a part of like Oscar's life but like he has to like present himself in some way to like yeah you know be a part of that and it's like that's weird.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah so yeah here's another question about him that you you're probably gonna be able to answer because I'm I've only seen it once and I didn't like fully take everything in but like um I guess like Sykes is supposed to be is he supposed to be Don's assistant or is he like what is he supposed to be that was so that was confusing to me too because it's like okay so he runs this car wash but what does he have to does he owe I guess maybe he owes money to like the the the fish yeah the sharks for something but we don't know what but I think maybe that's the point is that that doesn't matter so much like that's okay.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah they're like they're just trying to say they're just trying to allude to like you know it's like it's like the Sopranos it's like the Godfather where it's like yeah like in those movies like you obviously see the specific reasons but this it's like more supposed to be like we're just kind of like putting it in there you know but yeah that's right because then I was like wait so how does because he he loses Oscar loses the five grand that he owes yeah and then like somehow becomes rich and famous because he's a shark slayer but it's like nothing is like where is he get is he getting the money from like his publicity or is he like yeah like how who's he gets like a penthouse doesn't he gets like a really nice place.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah like like there has to be maybe there's some company that's like okay you're the shark slayer now and we can pay to put you up like but it's like no one no one's thinking about that stuff except for like when you're looking at it critically like in depth yeah like as an adult you're like well I have to pay my bills so Oscar the shark slayer has to also you know it's like no it's a kid's like animated film it's not that complicated you know but but yeah and and then at the end he like owns the car wash or like he splits it with sexy fifty yeah which is like wait what like how did that happen?
- 51:42SPEAKER_00: How did you suddenly how are you able to could you have been able to do that the whole time but maybe like maybe they I don't know maybe the whole journey like revealed to Sykes that Oscar is like worthy of like get at what he does and like you know whatever because Oscar's dad always also used to run the the car wash didn't he and that's that's the whole reason he wants to kind of do it.
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: Um right but then he got you know gets sidetracked I guess by fame and fortune yes he gets he's like he's very big headed at one at like part in parts of this movie.
- 52:15SPEAKER_02: Yes that yeah but yeah I don't get he's qu he's comes across as like a greedy character as well I feel like well not because that's the his journey right is that he starts off like really like greedy and like and it's it what's like capitalism whatever it's like oh like we all I need money like I need to be at the and it's like oh that's actually not what you need whatever but I don't know it is it is kind of weird that it's like okay like a lot of movies like this are always like actually I'm happy doing thing that I was always doing it's like yeah maybe it's not like maybe there's a little bit like it or it's not that bad to like want something more but it's like maybe how you get it is like like it's not about like have finding some like get rich quick scheme or lying but like you know I don't know so like if I get in there is fairly yeah yeah or you know but also like the people who like some people just don't have if you want to get into a conversation about this but like some people just don't have access to like that kind of a lifestyle you know and it's like not about working hard really so it's like it's just about like what you have like you know privilege and stuff.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: So so anyway it's like okay we can't it's like how are we supposed to talk about these things with freaking shark tail but it's like I know it's but that's the thing it's like if you allude to it if you even talk about it a little bit it's like I don't know it's it's up for discussion like yeah yeah it's up for exactly so you know I don't know I don't know it's it's I I think it's a perfectly fine movie.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: I I I did enjoy it.
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: Like I don't think there's any I think it's a harmless movie but yeah yeah um I I don't know I just I don't know that I necessarily liked Oscar as much as I liked everyone else.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: I kind of enjoyed the other characters more than Oscar which I thought was interesting.
- 54:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah yeah was he's he's kind of unlikable up until maybe at the very end where he likes when he admits but that's like the last 10-15 minutes of the movie I guess.
- 54:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah um I don't also don't get like his relationship with uh Angie is kind of like I know you said it's like cute and everything and but why does he not know that he's in love with her or why is he only in love with her once he tell once she tells him when she right yeah maybe like he doesn't realize that she has or maybe it's like I think well I think he gives her a look whenever he gives her the pearl necklace yeah made out of the and and like that's when it's like oh he might have been about to confess like and like I actually love you or whatever.
- 55:22SPEAKER_02: And then Loa swoops in and then she's like and he gets and then he gets horny yeah yeah exactly and he just forgets everything.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: But I think he does recognize that he's just you know like sometimes you have crushes on friends and then like but you don't realize it's like we just get along really well and we're just best friends.
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: Oh so you think he just doesn't realize it himself and then he's kind of like become aware of it over time.
- 55:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah he's he's like finally able to admit it to himself yeah and he just like doesn't I don't know like once Angie is finally like okay but I was there for you blah blah blah yeah I don't know if that's like enough reason to be like well now I love this person because they like me.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: It's like do you like them at all?
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: But but I think he does I think I think I think he does I just think they kind of like need to get there in a better way yeah yeah I don't know I'm very I'm like really analyzing this movie and like really tearing it apart as opposed to and I'm sorry.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: No no it's interesting because I haven't like heard anybody like take you know really analyze like moments like this.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: It's really interesting it's really funny too I'm trying to think if there's any other moments we haven't talked about really there's like um I think Oscar and and Lenny's friendship is really nice in this movie.
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah it's really cute.
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: It's like a kind of like a um it's almost like an opposites attract sort of thing.
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: I like those dynamics in movies.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: I always like when they do that um it's like because they're both in a way like they're both not very cool or or just not accepted like very but like in different ways.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah like when you see Oscar you probably would be like oh he is kind of cool but then you see like he's like superficial and like whatever and that's like oh that's a little cringy.
- 57:24unknown: Yeah.
- 57:24SPEAKER_02: And then with Lenny it's like but but they are both they just I don't the thing is I don't think that Lenny really has any flaws though like I don't think he's he did anything like wrong in the movie.
- 57:37SPEAKER_00: No not at all.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: I think he's like very he's like the most I think him and Angie at are the most like uh decent characters within the movie in terms of like person who they are it's nice.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah like he it's nice to see like a character that's like uh friendly and trying to be a good person and everything and like how in that world right exactly like just being a good person.
- 58:07SPEAKER_02: I it's almost like I I would be more curious to see if like the movie was actually much more about Lenny than it is about Oscar.
- 58:18SPEAKER_02: Because like his story is so much more interesting like being a vegetarian shark like that whole premise.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah but then it gets like kind of covered up with like Oscar's like fantasy of becoming like super rich.
- 58:32SPEAKER_02: But but then the the the lying is funny the like being a shark slayer fake shark slayer is pretty funny but I don't know I feel like you like I feel like we could have explored more of like Lenny's struggle like in the movie you know like or the movie could have done that more.
- 58:49SPEAKER_02: I've just noticed something and I think this is this might speak to that more so there were two two writers of the screenplay and then there were eight additional dialogue writers huh yeah do you think that's a lot like I don't know I I'm not too familiar with like what is the right amount of people for a writer's room.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: Is that a lot?
- 59:13SPEAKER_02: Well it's a it's a lot for like additional dialogue at least because that that tell that tells me that they had to do a lot of like punching up of the script oh I see I see and trying to make it fit with care I reckon I reckon they tried to make it fit with these people okay yeah that makes sense because there are a lot of like funny like jokes like scattered throughout so like that makes sense if they had like multiple like people punching it up.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: Do you know who one of the writers is uh one of the additional dialogue uh Scott Aukman the comedy bang bang guy oh yeah yeah yeah yeah that's interesting that's that is that is pretty random I did not know he wrote this or like wrote the dialogue additional dialogue to this I think it's I mean it's it is pretty funny so I get that yeah he yeah he's I think it is they I do think it's very fun I do think this movie is very funny.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_00: That's one thing about it.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah I don't know I just feel like it's like kind of timeless if you can get past like the cringy parts or like just the you know then yeah I think um yeah I think everyone's very funny in it and I think it's a decent it's a fun movie.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_00: I think just structurally it's a little bit off.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: I think that's the other structurally like the tropes like all of that like yes for sure valid.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah I don't yeah totally on the same page I think do you have any um other thoughts about it?
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_00: Because I think I've run out of things about this movie now I think I've analyzed it so much.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah yeah we're just like we're in like AP English now like analyzing Sharp tale for an essay.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_00: It's okay if you don't as well no yeah I think we covered most of it like I um yeah I like yeah yeah I think I'm good yeah okay really analyzed it I think we did I'm quite surprised by how little there was to analyze as well right yeah I think we took like very little and then like really like dove deep into it.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: It shows there's like really not a lot to lot to the actual movie itself it's just like a very nice little kids movie.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah yeah and what's like what pops out to me is like the little moments like like the the horse race you know this there's seahorses and then like that seahorse like trips underwater or whatever it's like a big thing.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: It's like there's a lot of anticipation anticipation I was like no like I genuinely did get upset when that does it trip or does it like punch itself in the face to like intentionally is it supposed to be a fix that's the other thing I no I think like I think the seahorse really did like trip, right?
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: Oh so you think I you think that conspiracy theory of shark tail you think that the seahorse like intentionally tripped?
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_00: Well because they say it it's um they say about that that that uh seahorse and they're like um that's uh you can't lose or whatever but that he might have misheard it and thinking like that's gonna be the one that's the losing fish and like you can't lose by betting against it Oh no he did bet he bought he bet for it but I think the other two were saying what he overheard was like you can't lose by betting against it because that's the worst one and it's going to lose.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: I think that's what they were saying.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_02: Oh that's what I took from people saying oh that's wild I I heard it as like the race is rigged and lucky day is going to win.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: Interesting so so you think Lucky Day was always supposed to win then and it just accidentally tripped.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: Interesting that that does make sense as well.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: But but now that now that's so interesting like now that you're saying that I'm like oh that makes sense why the hor the seahorse at the beginning was like having a hard time getting out of the door and then like trips but like almost one but still it makes sense why the seahorse was like struggling.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_02: So you're saying like they were actually saying do not bet for lucky and I only think that because it looks like he punches himself in the face to trip.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: Oh that's the only reason I think that any any other reason I'd be on your I'd be like with you as well be like yeah that that's totally it's so weird.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: I okay now I have to watch that part again because now I'm like am I losing my mind like that okay I'm gonna watch that part again that's why I really try to hear what they're saying.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_00: But yeah you you I mean you've seen it enough times that you're probably correct still I it just like that's the that that was what I took from it myself.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_02: You know how sometimes you see something over and over again and then you're like yeah this is what it is and then you just get you you just keep telling yourself that but then like like people like yeah so you might be right be right.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: I'm glad that we brought up the Seahorse race.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: Maybe I've just blown your mind on on Shark Tale.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah yeah um seriously let me look at some of the trivia see if there's anything interesting about it.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_00: Um oh yeah it was supposed to be called Shark Slayer originally and which makes more sense sounds really intense though even though he is the Shark Slayer but like the title it does sound for kids that's what the producer said he said it sounds too scary for it might scare families away but um what was the other thing yeah there was uh where is it sequels discussed never produced and uh Anthony Anderson was cast as a sperm whale but it was too risque and that so they had to cut it yeah see like that that shows that like they're probably like it does feel like an adult animated film that was like a bunch of stuff was cut out versus it being a kid's animated film and then made to become you know what I mean I would like to see this as an adult version.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah like the full that would be fun like version yeah it'll be like you know that movie sausage pie like that oh my god yeah that would be so wild I would love to see like the director's cut or whatever um what else is that this is the first DreamWorks animation that features no humans sorry my stomach is rumbling I hope that the audio doesn't catch doesn't catch that but if it does I'm just letting you know um but we're reading that this is the first um this is the first uh DreamWorks animation movie that has no humans.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah huh And I thought I read something else interesting as well.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_00: Oh, there's so many so much trippy on this that none of it's interesting.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_02: Damn.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_00: Oh my goodness.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_00: You need to see how many people were considered for Angie.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_00: And no, for everyone.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: There's like hundreds of like a few years.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I feel like there are a lot of like she's very like, you know, like quirky girl next door, you know.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_02: I'm sure there are a lot of people who can guess one of them.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_02: Like Anne Hathaway or something.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_00: Um not Anne Hathaway, surprisingly, but like everyone else around her.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_00: Like in that sort of realm.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_00: It's not like everyone around that.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_00: And then like so many people considered for Don, so many people considered for Lenny.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_02: She was kind of younger though at the time, too, I think.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_02: I don't remember.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_00: She wasn't as famous back then.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_02: She was kind of like I don't remember when she's Princess Diaries or something.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Princess Diaries, yeah.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I guess like we've kind of covered everything we can with this movie then.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: Um do you do you want to move on to the final segment then?
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I want I'm excited to hear about this now and your take on this.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it's a move so for anyone that's like listening, it's a movie that's um the reverse of this, which is a movie that's um well loved by critics and fans that you think is a bad movie.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: Um Finding Nemo.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_02: It's like, okay, talking fish.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_02: When would that ever happen?
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's a cliche.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: Like, no.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_02: We are they're teaching lives.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, in Shark Tail, the fish are cool and they're like fun and funny, and then in Finding Memo, they're getting lost or they're losing people.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_02: You know, it's like stop being so dramatic, you know.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_02: Um Shark Tale is about like finding yourself, and Finding Memo is about finding a fish.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_02: Like, okay.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_02: Shark Tale is a lot more like metaphorical.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_00: So which do you see first?
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_02: Um, I think I saw I think I saw Shark Tail first.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_02: No, wait, when did it come out?
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_02: I don't want to lie.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_00: 2003 is Finding Nemo, 2004 Shark Tale.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_02: Hmm, okay.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_02: I probably saw I probably saw Finding Nemo first.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_02: Um but I'm I'm kidding.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_02: I really just did that as a bit because I was like, you can cut this part out if you want to and keep it as a bit, or you can include me being honest about it.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_02: I do I do love finding Nemo.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_02: I was just like, what if I just like shit on Finding Nemo?
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_00: That was pretty funny though.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_00: After like really it's so wholesome and harmless.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's great, yeah.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_02: And it's like if I just like loved Shark Tail and just like hated this other fish movie for the same reasons, you know?
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_00: Um do you have a movie then?
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_02: I I honestly just did I I don't the thing is I as an actor, I'm always just like oh you can be careful if you want.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: Like you don't have to.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_02: I'm just but I also I to be honest was struggling.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_02: I was like, I don't know that there are I think maybe like any movies that are like an all-white like cast, I've always found it really hard to like relate to and like maybe overhyped in that way, but it's like also it makes sense why like yeah, just like the stories are good or whatever.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_02: Um but I honestly like couldn't is that okay?
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_02: Like I really seriously do a movie that like it's okay without make making it a bit, and so I was like you came on you came on ready with a bit at least.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_02: I was just like, I don't know.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_00: I just want to be like you love all movies.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: I love all yeah, I love all movies.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_02: Put me in every movie, you know.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I'm trying to think if there's so Adam Paley, because he was like trying to be careful as well.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_00: He did uh he said Braveheart because of Mel Gibson.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_00: And so that's like that's that's that was his approach.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, we can definitely say like American beauty, you know.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_02: For obvious reasons.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_02: Um well because that that's not that's weird because it's like pedophilia, right?
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_00: It's a gross movie.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_00: That that yeah, I don't think that holds off at all.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_02: No, and the the only reason I was like, uh, I don't want to really talk about that is because like pretty much most people like know why that's like not you know what I mean?
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_02: It's like not it's not new news, like to be like, yeah, I don't like this movie, you know.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_00: No, but at the same time, it won best picture, one best director, actor actress.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_00: It won so many Oscars, and it's just like how did this win?
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_00: Because it's so disgusting.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_02: Well, also it's like it makes sense why it won because it's like at the time or even now, like a lot of Hollywood, it's like I don't know, like especially at the time, is like taking advantage of like women and stuff.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_02: So it's like you know, and portraying women and that like just as sensual like beings, whatever.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_02: So it's like of course a movie that like high you know emphasizes that would like do well, yeah.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_00: Um but it even like sexualizes her on the poster and everything, and like 17 or whatever, it's like yeah, she's a kid, you know?
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_02: So yeah, so yeah, American Beauty and Finding Nemo are the two worst uh movies, uh most inappropriate, yeah.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_00: Um thank you so much for doing this.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_00: This has been really interesting.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_00: Like I hope I haven't destroyed Shark Tail for the city.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, no.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: If if anything, it's like it's really like therapeutic because I'm like, no, like where can I talk about Shark Tale anyway, you know what, you know what I mean?
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_02: Like in this way, like hyper analyzing it.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_00: So you can go bring that to your family now and say, like, I I've look what I've got.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_02: I know they're gonna I don't know if the the uh I don't know, maybe they'll be proud of it.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_02: They'll be like why didn't you put me on?
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_02: I'm sure my dad would have loved to be on this podcast.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_00: So shout shout out to your dad.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, shout out to my dad for like being a big Shark Tail fan.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_00: If you if you've l if you're listening to this and you've made it to the end, we love you.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_02: Like how like I think it's good.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_00: I think I'm talking about your dad specifically, not any not just NGM.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_02: Oh, my dad.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_02: No, thank you.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_02: Yes, shout out.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_00: We love you as well.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, we don't hate anybody for any reason.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, thank you so much for doing this.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_00: Um, how can we find you online?
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_00: And do you have anything you want to promote at the moment?
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, my Instagram is sahana.j.srinnybossin, and my Twitter is sahana underscore Srinny.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm working on some stuff that'll come out soon, so I'm really excited about that, but I can't talk about them yet.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_02: And then um and then of course I have the kids science show Brainchild on Netflix that you can watch.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_02: Because we did talk about a kids movie.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_02: So any kids listening to this, I hope you're brainchild.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_00: I'm not even sure if we s do we even swear in this, I'm not even sure.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_02: I think we just got really like deep, and so I hope that kids can grow from learning about the this might be the first episode that kids actually can listen to, right?
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_02: And so, you know, go watch that.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_02: Those are the only plugs I have.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_00: No stand-up that you want to promote or anything.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't really know.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_00: Do you have any stand-up online?
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_02: Stand up online.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_02: I think there might have there might be one video from some audition or some from an audition show, I think.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I don't have that much, I don't have that much footage of my stand-up online.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I would just say follow me on social media and yeah, you'll see the jokes there.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you so much for doing this.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, thank you, of course.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_00: That's the end of the podcast.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_00: If you enjoyed it, please leave us a review and liking so we can end up making more episodes.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_00: And I'll see you next week for more movies that critics got wrong.
