SPEAKER_01: Hello, this is a Dissonant Whispers interview, and I am Oleander Hawthorne here with Drewkin Beard Nurse.
• 0:38
  SPEAKER_00: That's me.
• 0:39
SPEAKER_01: Now, this is gonna be horrible for me to say.
• 0:42
SPEAKER_01: We've been playing for two and a half years.
• 0:44
  SPEAKER_01: Dreuken I N or E N because I keep writing it wrong.
• 0:48
  SPEAKER_01: IN.
• 0:49
  SPEAKER_01: I N.
• 0:51
SPEAKER_01: My autocorrect wants to change it to EN.
• 0:54
  SPEAKER_00: Auto correct for you.
• 0:55
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, autocorrect hates E.
• 0:57
  SPEAKER_00: Hates everybody.
• 0:59
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 0:59
  SPEAKER_01: Alright.
• 1:00
SPEAKER_01: Now, um, when you were creating Drewkin, what kind of character were you trying to make when this when this originally started?
• 1:09
SPEAKER_00: So when I originally started, I honestly didn't know what I wanted to create.
• 1:14
SPEAKER_00: Um I wanted to be the healer of the group, just because it's more fun.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_01: So I don't too many people think that.
• 1:21
  SPEAKER_00: No, no, they don't.
• 1:22
SPEAKER_00: But I I was just gonna do, honestly, just a straight cleric built all the way up.
• 1:27
  SPEAKER_00: I wasn't gonna do anything.
• 1:29
SPEAKER_00: Um he was just gonna be the the the protector of the group, and that's what he was built for.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_00: You know, he's a big fur bog, he's a big teddy bear.
• 1:40
SPEAKER_00: In in in some people's acts.
• 1:43
  SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I mean that's that's how I create him.
• 1:46
SPEAKER_00: I just want him to be the guardian of everybody.
• 1:49
SPEAKER_00: He wants everybody to have what they're here for and stay around.
• 1:55
  SPEAKER_01: Alright.
• 1:56
SPEAKER_01: Uh how has your character deviated from your original plan?
• 2:00
  SPEAKER_00: Well, he deviated.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_00: Well, he was good all the way, and then he died.
• 2:05
SPEAKER_00: So that that whole death on him changed his whole outlook on his life.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_00: Um, he didn't have really anybody to look to look up to with his life.
• 2:16
SPEAKER_00: He didn't really have anywhere to belong to.
• 2:19
SPEAKER_00: So when he died, he found his God.
• 2:22
SPEAKER_00: He found his path through life.
• 2:25
SPEAKER_01: He literally found his god.
• 2:27
  SPEAKER_00: That's not a figurative.
• 2:28
SPEAKER_01: He literally found his god.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_00: With that part, I I changed him up a bit.
• 2:32
SPEAKER_00: You know, he went from being straight clair to throwing a little bit into the Pally side of things.
• 2:39
SPEAKER_00: Not very much, but just a bit into it just to bring his storyline more bring it up more.
• 2:47
SPEAKER_00: Like give him a little bit more to look towards and have a little bit more fun.
• 2:51
SPEAKER_00: Um, but that's pretty much where he changed his whole outlook on everything was dead.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_01: Now, who is your god?
• 2:59
  SPEAKER_00: The god?
• 2:59
SPEAKER_00: So his god is the Raven Queen, and that's why he went more to the Pally side of it because he's the Pally is against the undead, he's against non-natural death, and that's where it turned with him because of the Raven Queen.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_01: Now, I gotta say that in a completely biased perspective, this has caused me a lot of grief.
• 3:26
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, it has.
• 3:27
SPEAKER_01: You know, very selfishly, I I must say that uh him having an issue with the undead has, yeah, it's it's caused me a dilemma.
• 3:37
SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, because we were close at the beginning and then we kind of split a little, but we haven't split all the way.
• 3:44
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Oleander and Drewkin were uh attached at the hip for about a year uh of out of you know of you know real life year uh in game that was only a couple weeks.
• 3:58
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it wasn't very long in.
• 4:00
SPEAKER_01: I can't remember what day you died, but uh Oleander was ready to essentially tear the world down around her uh in order to bring him back, and then he came back wrong.
• 4:13
  SPEAKER_00: Not wrong.
• 4:15
  SPEAKER_00: He came back differently.
• 4:17
SPEAKER_00: But he still looked at you the same because he knew who you were before.
• 4:22
SPEAKER_01: When you say I love you, but that but is the overriding.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_01: So, um, is there anything from your background or backstory that you want to tell people about?
• 4:33
SPEAKER_01: Either that has been revealed prior to recording, or as part of your character's motivations or personality, things that affect your choices but wouldn't necessarily come up in discussion in the game.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_01: So without giving spoilers to the recorded parts, um You know, not much.
• 4:50
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I know he's pretty straightforward to what he says.
• 4:55
  SPEAKER_01: He hides everything.
• 4:56
  SPEAKER_00: I don't hide everything.
• 4:58
SPEAKER_00: I mean, there there's a few things that, yes, he hasn't had the chance to really talk to the group about stuff because we've been going from you know, battle to battle to just the whole play's been amazing, but he just hasn't really had the whole chance to really sit down and talk to everybody.
• 5:20
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I know me and you had our talk and we we we hashed our stuff out, and that was pre-recording, which would have been amazing if it was recorded, but it wasn't.
• 5:29
SPEAKER_01: But no, that was in the recordings.
• 5:31
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 5:32
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_01: Show some of the things that was an I Love You Butt.
• 5:35
  SPEAKER_00: Ah, well, yeah.
• 5:36
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I mean, other than that, he he's he just hasn't had the time to really sit down and and talk.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_01: Our campaign has been so intense that even though we have been together for less than a month and a half, I think.
• 5:51
SPEAKER_01: Um, or maybe about a month and a half.
• 5:55
SPEAKER_00: I thought we were yeah, we're like 48 days or something.
• 5:58
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, yeah, right in that win window.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_01: But uh we've we've had such an intense time that our and and our characters are all very private, like surprisingly private people.
• 6:08
SPEAKER_01: Nobody wants to intrude on anyone else's business without being invited in, but because nobody wants to um intrude, none of us have really gotten to know each other very well, actually.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_01: Uh it's it's very um very seldom that we open up to each other.
• 6:25
SPEAKER_01: Yeah so it's a it's a bizarrely distant uh yet close group at the same time.
• 6:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, there's there's been conflict and non-conflict, and we just really haven't been able to relax and actually talk about life.
• 6:40
SPEAKER_01: Yes, and I think that if somebody gave us a few days of rest, then he's shaking his head.
• 6:47
SPEAKER_01: Our DM's shaking his head.
• 6:49
SPEAKER_01: He's not gonna give us any rest.
• 6:50
  SPEAKER_01: No.
• 6:52
SPEAKER_01: Then we can really help some stuff out.
• 6:54
SPEAKER_01: Get to getting to know each other, and you guys don't know shit about me.
• 6:58
SPEAKER_00: No, all we know is you're in a cult, and that's about it.
• 7:01
  SPEAKER_00: I'm in a cult!
• 7:04
SPEAKER_01: Just a very loving, secluded group of people.
• 7:08
SPEAKER_01: They just don't understand tight-knit small families.
• 7:11
SPEAKER_01: Alright, what is your favorite game moment prior to recording that affected your character's development or choices?
• 7:20
SPEAKER_00: There's one, and it it comes up a lot because I think it was hilarious, everybody else thinks it's funny, but it was the the Delphine and Theron fight.
• 7:32
SPEAKER_00: You know, that whole thing was just it was incredible to watch, and everybody who was there in like in game style didn't know what was going on, except for me.
• 7:43
SPEAKER_00: I noticed something in it that made me dislike there.
• 7:49
SPEAKER_01: What was it that you noticed?
• 7:50
SPEAKER_00: So I noticed because all like they're fighting, and then all of a sudden Darren just turns and he goes up to you and it schmoozes you.
• 8:02
SPEAKER_00: So my guy looked at it and was like, oh, so you're just you know, you're charming everybody to like you.
• 8:10
SPEAKER_01: And I was instantly smitten.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_00: Yes, and I didn't like that because at that point, you were my I was there that you guys are I'm protecting you, and I know I don't want you guys to go wrong.
• 8:23
SPEAKER_00: And seeing that Delphine and him are arguing, and then all of a sudden he goes to her best friend in game and schmoozes her, and now she's all smitten over him.
• 8:33
  SPEAKER_00: I don't like it.
• 8:34
SPEAKER_01: It was uh, you know, just very irrational moment.
• 8:37
SPEAKER_01: I don't know why suddenly I would have been so smitten.
• 8:41
SPEAKER_00: And it wasn't even it wasn't even planned for me to even hate the like it wasn't planned at all.
• 8:46
  SPEAKER_00: It just had it.
• 8:47
SPEAKER_00: So it was just like a spur of the moment thing, and I think that is where it it it went into.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, I found out stuff about Darren afterwards, and I tried throwing them off of, you know, I was tempted to throw them off of the balcony, but I didn't.
• 9:02
SPEAKER_00: You know, it was it was a fun image.
• 9:05
SPEAKER_00: It would have been great, but being a cleric and a lawful good character, you can't do stuff like that.
• 9:13
SPEAKER_01: Your your inside thoughts and wishes uh have to stay inside.
• 9:17
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, yeah.
• 9:18
  SPEAKER_00: I can't I can't show them that much.
• 9:21
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 9:22
SPEAKER_00: But that's where my my change of my character went with the boat here.
• 9:26
SPEAKER_01: And now, what is your uh goal or aspiration?
• 9:29
SPEAKER_01: What what is Drunken trying to accomplish?
• 9:31
  SPEAKER_00: God, I don't even know.
• 9:34
SPEAKER_00: Um That's a hard question, just because there's so much that he needs to still learn.
• 9:42
SPEAKER_00: Like he still has to learn more on the Raven Queen, on his god.
• 9:47
SPEAKER_00: Um he needs to figure out other stuff that we need to figure out.
• 9:53
  SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's that's a that's a tough question.
• 9:58
SPEAKER_01: Um now obviously we know where your allegiance lies, but how do you feel about that?
• 10:08
SPEAKER_01: Um you you basically have had um the Raven Queen come in and say, hey, these are the things that you have to stand for, but those weren't things that you were raised into, those were just um those were imposed upon you externally.
• 10:25
SPEAKER_01: So how what what are Drunken's feelings about uh the Raven Queen's rules?
• 10:31
SPEAKER_00: He he obeys them, he understands the rules.
• 10:35
SPEAKER_00: Now, when it comes to certain party members, he understands.
• 10:41
SPEAKER_00: He knows that like he knows that that's not right in his in his eyes, that he knows that you weren't you were forced upon this, so you weren't born into the vampirism.
• 10:57
SPEAKER_00: Or you know, same with um with Einar being hit like how he is, he wasn't born into that, he got forced into it.
• 11:07
SPEAKER_00: So I know how you were before that happened, and he knows you're a good kid, like a good person at that point, but he also knows that that side of you could turn and go bad, and that's what he doesn't want.
• 11:24
SPEAKER_00: So he's trying to find his way to I don't want to say it in a bad way, but kind of like cure that side if he can.
• 11:36
SPEAKER_01: He wants to cure something about us.
• 11:38
SPEAKER_00: He wants to take the devil out of you.
• 11:41
  unknown: Yeah.
• 11:43
SPEAKER_00: But not in that, you know, not in a bad way.
• 11:45
SPEAKER_01: But it it it's he's trying to he's just trying to uh like I don't even know how to even say it, but he thinks there's something wrong with us and he wants to just leech it on out.
• 12:00
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, pretty much.
• 12:02
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 12:03
SPEAKER_01: Even if we say there's nothing wrong with us, he doesn't believe us.
• 12:07
SPEAKER_00: No, because vampirism is wrong.
• 12:09
SPEAKER_01: Yes, everybody says you're evil if you're a necromancer.
• 12:12
SPEAKER_00: But you're not necessarily evil.
• 12:15
SPEAKER_00: You just have an evil tendency.
• 12:18
  SPEAKER_01: To clarify, I'm not a necromancer.
• 12:21
SPEAKER_01: That was just um Is there anything in particular that you would want to uh anything else you want to tell us about your character?
• 12:33
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I've said a lot, and like he knows there's not much to him, but he's I know he he's still trying to figure out his god.
• 12:41
SPEAKER_00: That's the main thing right now that he's in conflict with is most gods or deities, they don't give you straight answers.
• 12:50
SPEAKER_00: So he's confused on what he has to do, but he knows what he has to do, but he doesn't know what he wants to do, but he's you know he doesn't want to do what he doesn't do.
• 12:59
SPEAKER_00: He doesn't want to do what he has to do, but he's confused on what's gonna happen.
• 13:04
  unknown: Yeah.
• 13:04
SPEAKER_01: I personally would love to see um what the consequences of you not doing what you're supposed to do.
• 13:11
  SPEAKER_00: I I know some consequences already.
• 13:14
SPEAKER_00: So and it's happened a few times.
• 13:16
SPEAKER_00: Like the first time I cured you, I started on fair to do.
• 13:21
SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah! I forgot about that.
• 13:24
SPEAKER_01: That was really great because it's actually um he he has a special ability to um get rid of the vampirism.
• 13:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to temporarily um calm it, I don't know, what the word to take us out of vamp mode.
• 13:40
SPEAKER_00: Yes, so it takes away all your abilities and your feeding and your hunger, and it puts you back to who you were beforehand.
• 13:47
SPEAKER_01: Puts us back to square one.
• 13:49
SPEAKER_01: However, unlike Einar, Oliander is very difficult to hit with this ability.
• 13:57
SPEAKER_01: And the very first time he tried to cure me, he failed, and then he failed, and then he failed, and I didn't understand.
• 14:05
  SPEAKER_00: I only failed twice.
• 14:08
SPEAKER_00: But I started on fire too.
• 14:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was getting injured, like severely injured, and I'm running towards him trying to help, and he's trying to run away from me and and and ditch me because I'm hurting him essentially.
• 14:21
SPEAKER_01: And uh yeah, that was good.
• 14:22
  SPEAKER_01: That was crazy.
• 14:23
SPEAKER_01: That was that was actually um one of uh that was one of Oleander's most traumatizing nights because you never explained to her what was happening, and she has never like in the during the campaign, she had never felt quite so abandoned as um somebody running away from her that she cared about.
• 14:42
SPEAKER_01: Well, she's gonna be able to do that.
• 14:42
SPEAKER_00: That is that is very true.
• 14:44
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 14:45
  SPEAKER_00: She was interesting.
• 14:46
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 14:46
SPEAKER_01: Now, um, I got one more thing for you that I want you to repeat after me.
• 14:52
SPEAKER_00: My I don't know if I want to repeat this afternoon.
• 14:56
  SPEAKER_00: My God.
• 14:58
SPEAKER_00: No, I'm not saying I know what you're gonna do, and it's not gonna happen.
• 15:02
  SPEAKER_01: She's awful and a hater.
• 15:04
  SPEAKER_00: She's grit.
• 15:06
  SPEAKER_01: She's evil.
• 15:08
  SPEAKER_00: Only because you're undead.
• 15:10
SPEAKER_01: I may eventually just have to have a vendetta against her.
• 15:14
  SPEAKER_00: Well, that's you.
• 15:15
  SPEAKER_00: That's on you.
• 15:16
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 15:17
SPEAKER_01: Well, that might be on.
• 15:20
SPEAKER_01: Thank you very much, Drewkin, for joining me for a little get to know you.
• 15:24
  SPEAKER_00: You're welcome.
• 15:26
  unknown: Bye.
