- 0:00SPEAKER_01: This is a great, big, beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Shining at the end of every day.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: This is a great, big, beautiful tomorrow.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: Just a dream.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Hello, and welcome to Of Mice and Main Street Men.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I am Tristan.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: And I am Sean.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, how are you?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I'm good.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Together again.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Just like Sully and Mike.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: I uh you know what's interesting?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: So our our show is called Of Mice and Main Street Men, obviously.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Everyone knows that.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: It's very witty.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Who came up with that?
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I think it was you.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: I think it was me.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: It was definitely you.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: You're way more so uh lately, like I've been you know finding other podcasts or other podcasts have reached out to us.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: So one podcast reached out to us, and they're called Main Street Talk.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: They're actually in the quad cities as well, like the Midwest area, which I think is cool.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Then there's so cool.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: There's this other one that the algorithm threw me the other day, and they're called the Men of Main Street.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And I don't know where they're set of yet, but I thought that was interesting.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: So you know what?
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: We were uh we're on the the the forefront of cutting edge with trend setters is what we are.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: We are trendsetters.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: So I'm assuming I don't know when did they start their podcast?
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Maybe they think we stole it.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: They're both pretty new, so okay.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I think we set the uh well trend.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: There's room for lots of men on Main Street.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: There is, indeed.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: And uh, but I thought that was interesting and a kind of little fascinating little uh little Disney thing there.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: But what's coming up in your Disney life?
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: You guys are going to Disneyland in August, right?
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Yes, we are to the to the expo.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Well, it's not an expo anymore, it's an ultimate fan event.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Ultimate fan event.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Yep, that's exciting.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: I know I should be getting my D23 gift soon because my membership just renewed and I had to make my choice.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: So yeah, my name is I am I'm getting I'm getting the the club exclusive Roosevelt shirt.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Because I love those shirts anyway.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: I already own several because oh man, they're awesome.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Maybe they'll sponsor this show.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Maybe I bet yeah, I bet they'd love love that.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Um, but their shirts are so cool.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I selected the uh uh the lounge fly for my um that's that's your style to walk around with a little loungefly backpack.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: So I only have one.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: The girl, so my wife and and uh Savannah and Harper have several.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Because I I buy them one every now and then.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And actually, Savannah has a really cool Disney Adventure one that she just bought that's really rad.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Um, that's awesome.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: But I only have one, and I have it's c it's a Cogsworth one that I found.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: It's like a special edition.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Um I feel and I I have gone to the parks like three times in the last like year or four, I don't know, I think four.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I keep forgetting to take it with me.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: I I'm bound and determined.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: We're going this summer in June.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take this with me because I I keep forgetting, and I get there and I'm like because it's hanging on a wall, and I just don't think about it because the girls have theirs, and I always make sure I have theirs, but anyway.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Well, next time when you're packing and you pack theirs, remember yours.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, right.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: I have one of these too.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: I should take that.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I I don't know why, because Harper usually uses hers as her carry-on because it's a bigger one anyway.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then and then we get salves packed, and then I just don't ever look up on the wall and think, oh, you know what I should do is pack my own.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: But then, like, we don't need three of them when we go to the parks, really.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: You know, it's a whole thing.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: So anyway, I have one and I've never used it, but I'm gonna have two, so maybe I'll have two ones.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, anyway, good things are you know happening and all kinds of good things.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: But today we're gonna continue our series of things that we love.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, it's a good old flashback to 2022.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: We're just updating them for 2026, and today's is uh what we love about Hollywood Studios.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Now Yeah, you you had put in my email Zoom link what we love about HS, and I was like, high school?
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm like there were there were a few things I liked about high school, yeah.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Um but there are many more things I like about Hollywood Studios.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Yes, I will say I have been a little, and I don't know, I'll have to go back and listen to what we said years ago, but I know lately I have not been too kind to the Hollywood Studios in uh so I I'm it I'm excited to give it some love because after thinking about it, there are things that I enjoy.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Um, I I well see, I have a sunnier disposition in general, I think.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I think I just I didn't I didn't have any trouble coming up.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, I didn't have any trouble, but okay.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: I just know in the past, like if like that's the one that I've been like, okay, like there's things that yeah, anyway, it doesn't matter.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: We won't get into it because this is the show about what we love, you know.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I'll be ex- I'll be excited to hear what what you have reawakened in your soul that reminds you how much you love the Hollywood studios.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I'm excited to have reawakened my soul as well.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: But why don't you uh kick us off here with your number five, sir?
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: All right, my number five, my number five is dining.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Because one of my one of my favorite Disney restaurants, period, is there, which is the 50s primetime.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: I I have loved the 50s prime time since the very early years when we went down there.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: You know, over the years I've eaten there with my parents and my grandparents and my friends, and it's just, I love the food, and it's just such a fun, kitschy atmosphere.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: And I know we're getting further and further away from the 1950s, and I mean, because you know, when when I started going there with my grandparents and stuff, it was like, oh, this is kind of what they remember.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: This is, you know, this was just, you know, whatever, 30 years ago.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, now it's a lot further back than that.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: But the nostalgia and just and watching, you know, all of those clips, the black and white television clips about food from all those classic, you know, sitcoms.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: It's just that it's still funny.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: There's there's still, you know, funny stuff on there.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Dick Van Dyke and and Lucy and um and the food is so great.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: And then the cast members.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: You've got, you know, you've got people that I think stay there for years and years because it's just so fun to to be sort of the Ed Bevix, for those of you like from Chicago of the of the Disney, of the Disney atmosphere.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: So um uh, but yeah, and not just them, because I give them a lot of love, but we did eat at the Brown Derby not too many trips ago.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess it was several trips ago.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, but really great food.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: My only objection to brown derby was that the service was a little on the slow side, which when you're in a theme park, it's you usually have places to go and people to see or or mice to see, or, or you know, bears to see.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: There's there's there's all sorts of things.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: And you so usually getting you know through the dining a little faster.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Um, but man, the food is amazing.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: And I recently had the chance to have the grapefruit cake again.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: I hear, and it was it was so good.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: That grapefruit cake, which is a staple of the original Hollywood brown derby.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Um, but great, and then and then the other member sort of of this this dining triangle is the sci-fi dining, which I will say, I think people have come to the agreement that the food has gotten better.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: I think I enjoy it a lot.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: I re we have a reservation in June.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Um, but man, sitting in those, I mean, just that ambiance is amazing, and all those clips from those films, the you know, all those grade C horror films from the 50s and 60s, and it's just it's so cool.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: And, you know, plus you can get an adult beverage at any of those locations.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Man, Dad's Lemonade, oh, or the peanut butter and jelly shake at the sci-fi or at the at 50s prime time.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: You know, that was the first time I was ever introduced, I think, to a light up ice cube.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: And man, doesn't it just make alcohol more fun when it glows?
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: It's it's a literal glow up to your beverage.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: And and so, yeah, that's why that's why dining is on there.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I think that is a noble choice.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: And why thank you.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, and it made me hungry, frankly.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: No, it's okay.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: I have no notes on that.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: I just it was just a statement.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: What was your number five?
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: So my number five is um is just the general um future, uh, you know, in what's next.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: So uh Hollywood Studios, I think if it because it's kind of reinventing itself in a lot of ways, and I think the future looks pretty bold with the reimagining of rock and roller coaster with the Muppets, that's exciting.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Um, hopefully it's irreverent fun.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Um, but also, you know, Monsters Inkland, and you know, it's interesting because that park is definitely in flux right now, but I think there's some hope for its evolution, and it's you know, it's a nice reminder that nothing has ever really finished at the Disney World and things are gonna keep shifting.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: I I will admit I will discuss this a little later in my list.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: I figured you might, so we can wait on it then.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: But anyway, that's mine, it's just kind of what the future is going to hold.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: So there you go.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, and I I wonder, it's been a long time since we've done this and said people should call their bookies and figure out how many overlaps we're gonna have.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: Do people still have actual bookies these days?
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: I guess you've got like betting apps, but but I guess I guess that you really can't bet on of mice and main street men on the Caesars app, can you?
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Probably not, but you work on that.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: You make things happen, Tristan Tapscott, and you you should get some of those, you know.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: I'm sure Disney would want to put us on like an ESPN betting app.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Because you're gonna want to wager on Disney podcasts in our dystopian future.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I digress.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: My number four uh is Phantasmic for why I love Hollywood Studios.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, I true audio listeners or audio visitors of this show know that I I do give a little more love to the Disneyland version of Phantasmic, but I will say certainly back in 22 be because Phantasmic had not come back yet at that point, right?
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: For I'm pretty sure not when we did this last.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: No, I don't think so.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: No, I don't think so.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: But but I will say when it came back, I was like, yes, Disney, you have you've done a fine job of you know finally letting letting Pocahontas the Pocahontas section, which was just I I I know it wasn't chapstick because it was too early for him.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: It I guess it was Eisner.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: I can't imagine Eisner made that mistake, but man, that Pocahontas section was just you were betting on a classic when you should have waited and tested the you know, if you should have seen what was just around the river bend before you decided to devote a whole section of like mountain flinging to that.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: But here's the thing though, not to go down a spoke.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: But oh, but it's what we do, it is what we do, but on that topic though, like they took a chance with that, but they also took a chance on building the whole frozen thing before they really knew that was good, because that was uh the plans were uh you know underway before that was the massive hit that it became.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: So like Oh, you mean for you mean for Epcot.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: For Epcot, yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: And it's not a good one.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Well, I think they just knew they had to put something in there instead of an oil rig and a movie that no one stayed for.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: So you just never know, you know.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: I just don't know.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: But yeah, you're right.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: It was probably a pretty good bet that that was gonna be a very, a very popular film, certainly with the young princess set.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Uh so anyway, back to Pocahontas.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: All right, back to Pocahontas.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, but they did such a good job, in my opinion, after the pandemic, of you know, taking that real estate and turning, you know, the whole mountain swinging thing into the Aladdin section and you know, pulling it forward into a more modern feel with the frozen uh section and the Mulan section and especially the Moana section.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: You know, I just went, okay, good job, Disney.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: You've you've sort of, if if Pocahontas was this ugly tattoo that you had gotten in your youth, you've managed to cover it up beautifully because you got a really good tattoo artist who a really good tattoo artist who was able to, you know, paint over it and and make it something truly beautiful.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: So phantasmic, even with its toy little paper uh, you know, river boat at the end, it's still it still managed to hit number four on my list of things I love about Hollywood Studios.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: And as it should.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Good for you.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Uh my number four is uh actually Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: I well, this is it.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about this later.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: It it is also on my list, but I had a feeling it was.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: It was tough to put these in the order that they were, but there is a reason.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: But I think we've talked about this before, but I do think this is an immersive like masterpiece.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Um it's incredible, and the it's amazing to me how well they do stuff that every like Toy Storyland disappeared, like Hollywood studios disappear.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: It's like it is bonkers how it feels so drastically different, even though it's just literally around the corner.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: And you know, I've always been impressed by the the scale and the details and just the atmosphere, and uh like from the sounds of like the distant engines and the announcements, and like they're fully committed to that story, and every every inch feels like so intentional and weathered, and I just love it.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: And you know, you get to see the Millennium Falcon, you get to go inside the Millennium Falcon, like there, you know, rise of the drive the Millennium Falcon, too.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: And some lucky people get to push buttons that flash, yeah, and like the Millennium Falcon.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: And like Rise of the Resistance is one of the coolest things ever, and you know, it's just it's not a place that like uh it doesn't, it just exists so well, and it feels not just like another part of a theme park, but like a completely different world, and I love it.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: And since you're gonna talk about it, we can wait on it.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: But that is my number four, Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: All right, so my number three is just the old Hollywood vibe, and and to me, that especially is the music.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: I love the soundtrack that plays in the background over there that's like all major movie musical, like recognizable songs, hooray for Hollywood, and and you know, singing in the rain, and you know, just great Hollywood movie music, and then you know, just just that whole.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Now, I do miss the streetmosphere.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: I really wish Disney would bring back, you know, the talent scout and the gossip columnist and the director and all of those fun people.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: You know, we've I think we've alluded to that before, but um, you know, just the architecture and how well like the Hollywood Tower Hotel fits into all that and and just and the whole rundown atmosphere of that and you know, and the brown derby and because one of my favorite places at California uh adventure is of course the Carthay Circle Lounge, because it's got that old Hollywood feel.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: So I just I just love you know the the whole Sunset Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard and and the Gromins Chinese at the end of the street, and you know, the fact that they actually put real star footprints and handprints there, um, at least back in the early days.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: I don't think they do they do that anymore.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: They should.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: You should.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: In like real Hollywood, they still do it.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: No, well, I know, but like, but Disney Hollywood, they should still do it.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, they should still do that.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know if well, we'll have a chat with Josh when he's on the show and explain to him.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: We'll give him I'll I'll shoot him a text.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, great.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: I appreciate that.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Savannah based on him at this point, so we'll we'll give you a lot of things.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Well, I know I know.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: So just have her talk to her work husband.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and tell him he has to come on the show.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: He'll do what she says.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: Well, um as as he should.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, but oh right, the Hollywood vibe.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just the soundtrack and the cool, you know, the because I I also am a huge fan of like art deco style in general, and so so I'm just a big fan of that old Hollywood vibe at the studios.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: That was my number three.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Well, my number three, everybody call your bookies, is the Sunset Boulevard vibes.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Um the this well, okay.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Now now we're getting really crazy with and I'll explain in just a second.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, so uh and I am kind of referring to everything you said, but also um the soundtrack and the view, the the views and everything.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: I think you know, there's I don't think it's wrong to say that like Sunset Boulevard just in general is one of you know, is Hollywood Studios soul if there is one.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: And especially we've talked about this before, but as as like daytime fades, that whole air that just that whole area really transforms.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I know you don't like the neon signs as much, but I well I I that that was some sort of uh yeah, I said that, but that that was because Geppetto was getting weird.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he was being weird, but you know what I mean.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: There's a certain like and I took some pictures of it this last time, and I mean there are thousands of other people that have done the same, but it just has this this vibe at Sunset that's really cool.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: Well, and it's I mean, that's in Hollywood, that's golden hour, right?
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: That's golden hour, the best lighting, the best lighting is at that point, so so they're really just honing in on the theme of the Hollywood, the whole thing to well, yeah, and like to make golden hour so magical, right?
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: And the background music really kind of pulls you into uh God, how did Harper put it as if she was in La La Land?
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: So that kind of like cinematic dream of classic, you know, and you know, you have the Tower of Terror in the background, like you mentioned, and it's just it's a moment really, too, where you kind of do slow down a little bit because you want to just kind of take it all in, and so it's less about rushing to something, and it's just about like feeling the vibe, and I really dig that.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: And so that's my number three Sunset Boulevard vibes.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Well, for my number two, we now have my galaxy's edge on on my list.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Just because I mean for all the things you said before, it was just when it opened, and Disney had truly committed and still remains committed to the idea that you know you're on this other planet.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: You're not at Disney, you're not at a Disney theme park anymore.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: There's like not a sign pointing you to the bathroom or to the a different land.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: There's just batu.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: And, you know, the theming is incredible, and and the the the attention to detail is is something that clearly other theme parks aspire to now with universal and epic.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: They're you know, they're striving to come to that level of detail and immersion.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, I we have we have not had a discussion, I Don't think since they announced, you know, that the timelines are gonna begin to water.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: You're gonna, I guess you're getting wormholes now.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: And yeah.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Well, I think they have wormholes that will allow, you know, Leia and Darth to be there with Kylo and and uh you know and Ray and the Mandalorian and Grogu.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: It's like I mean now some of those people clearly existed, but I mean I what are your thoughts since since next week is May the 4th?
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: It is May the 4th on Monday, and right, Monday?
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: And um uh yeah, I find that interesting, but I think what they but okay, correct me if I'm wrong, and I I might oh I always do.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: I know if I don't, Kimberly will.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Yes, but uh when Galaxy's Edge first opened, there was like a lot more, it had its own language a little bit that they've kind of got over because we've talked about it with the tippy.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: The tippy, the the tipup factor.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: And like they there was a lot more like it had its own language and had a lot more of its own story, and I think what happened was people wanted their classic Star Wars vibe rather than all this new stuff.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: And I think had the Star Cruiser been more successful, I think it all would have worked.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: But I think it had a lot to do with that demise because they weren't really able to continue and really develop the story that's going on there, right?
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: You know, so I think it's a good idea to go back to be like, all right, what what has made us billions?
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Let's go with those characters.
- 23:37SPEAKER_01: Then maybe that's gonna be a better choice, you know what I mean?
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: To go with the what made the franchise in the first place.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I so I I'm not a hater.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna sit there and go, well, you shouldn't do it.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: It's like, sure you should.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Why not?
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I applaud you for trying to start this as something that was, you know, existed in a single time frame.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: But the it, you know, it's such a juggernaut of an independ and of an intellectual property that you kind of have to embrace the old with the new.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: So I go, why not?
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: Give the people what they want.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: And good for Disney for listening and going, you know what?
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: We tried this, but we want to make our our people are giving us lots of money.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: We should strive to make them happy.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: And if if calling it a tipiap salad is confusing them, we'll just call it chicken, I guess.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: So what was the band's name?
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: That's what I was trying to figure out.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: I just can't remember.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: But it was something I just remember that the tipip is just very vivid, and I it was difficult to say whatever the tipip was.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Oh man.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: But uh so so yeah, so that's Galaxy's Edge.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: That was your number two, right?
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: It's my number two.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: So my number two, and I have a feeling it might be your number one, um, isn't it?
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: No, it is not, sir.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, because I've already you've we've already talked about my number one.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, interesting.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, great.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: Well, my number two, and how dare you for not mentioning it, is Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: I did, I thought about it.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: I thought about it, but now you're covering it.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: It's just pure Disney joy, you know.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Um, and the attraction takes, you know, I just love that it's the first with Mickey and Minnie, and I think that's wonderful.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: And it really shows, you know, what can be done in a positive way and in a good way with all of those screens.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Because I uh as I've talked about before, I'm always weary of like something that's strictly screens, but that really does a nice job of kind of layering layering in like animatronics and screens and the way they do it, because you're inside of a cartoon, is so cool.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: You know, like it is very cool.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: You've literally stepped straight into a living animated short.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: How cool is that?
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: It's funny and it's clever, and yeah, um and and and it it teaches you to be tolerant of of talking dogs who don't shave and and just look a little disheveled.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: Hobo, if you will.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: Hobo goofy.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: Hobo goofy.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: You know, you learn that Goofy apparently was not always pristine back in the day, or maybe just now.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: I guess it's more that these are the these are the modern looks.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: It's like I guess Goofy just can't be bothered to get up and shave in the morning.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: It's hobo goofy.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: And that's okay.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: He's still lovable.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: No, just looks a little more disheveled than he used to.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: He just has a little tipip on him on his chin, you know, and who doesn't?
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: Um dear.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: Um, um being the tipips, but I just think whether you know you're a lifelong Disney fan or you're a writer for the first time, I think it's one of those that kind of uh stretches across generations, and I think it's a wonderful thing that you can do as a family, and it has innovation and it has heart, and it's just it's a classic.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: It's wonderful.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: It is so uh oh yeah.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: I was like, are we still talking about Galaxy's Edge?
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: It's like no, we're talking about Mickey Minis Runaway Railway, and that darn catchy song.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Are you just stunned that I said that darn catchy song?
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: Are you there?
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: Hello, are you there?
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: I'm here.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: Hello.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Are you not hearing me?
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Well, totally you may have lost him.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: Not sure.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Um I'm totally here.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: Hey, you're here now! Okay, yeah, I didn't go anywhere.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, see, I I heard a noise and then it was silence, and I was like, oh, okay.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Well, hey, no.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Um, no, what was I saying?
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, just uh oh, I was talking about the song.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: And and I didn't hear you respond.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I that and kudos to whoever made the meme out there that's like they've put a new song in Guardians of the Galaxy, Cosmic Rewind.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: And it's and it's nothing can stop me now.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh I would I would love to I would love to ride Cosmic Rewind with Nothing Can Stop Me Now.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: That would be kind of fantastic in a weird way.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: I would say that and here here's where it's not gonna cost them a penny.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: They should have certain times when it's like classic Disney Guardians rewind.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: You could do uh Grim Grinning Ghosts, you could do Yo Ho, you could do Nothing Can Stop Me Now.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Ooh, how about It's a Small World?
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Honestly, that that would work.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're literally flying by the planet talking about what a small world it is.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'd honestly you could put any of those songs in there.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: That would be something, wouldn't it?
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: For like uh I think it would.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: I okay, Josh.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: All right, Josh.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Listen.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: You already own the rights to all those songs.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Just just, you know, uh maybe maybe for the Disney, like the after, you know, the late night hours.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Just switch it over to that.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: I was hoping at Christmas time they would have like uh Christmas tunes in there.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: That would be cool, but they didn't, they didn't.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: It was just the normal well, they can't use all of our ideas at once.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: No, no, they gotta calm down because the imagineers are threatened by us already.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: No, especially when they're paying us so well.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: So where did where did that come off of?
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: That came off of I wouldn't mind yeah, my number two is Mickey and Mickey.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: What is the runaway railway?
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: All right, yeah.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: So I guess we're down to my number one.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Here's what's interesting.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: My number one was your number five, and my number two was your number four.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: I see.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: And we met at three, so I feel a little like now.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: I guess, oh, because I had Phantasmic and you had Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway so far.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: So so that you're if you if you were booking a high number with your with your bookie, that's this one's had a lot of overlap.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: But uh my number one is evolution, which ironically enough was also my number one on Animal Kingdom.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: And you know, like be and I think that just speaks to the fact that I love the fact that Disney wants to create new experiences and keep giving us what they do really well.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: And they don't they don't just lock it in, and sometimes we move forward kicking and screaming, like all the folks who didn't want the great movie ride to go.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: But let's let's face it, it was time.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, certainly to certainly to like help the the planet, you didn't need to be cycling that much sweat through Sigourney Weaver on a daily basis.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: That is that's a sentence right there.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Well, they have droughts, they have droughts in California.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: It was really unfair to be cycling so much sweat through Sigourney.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: It was just an insult to the environment.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: You know, cycling sweat through Sigourney is a good band name.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: I was afraid we weren't gonna get one out of this, but yeah, recycling sweat, cycling sweat through Sigourney.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, but but you know, I I'm excited about Monsters Inkland and the and the Doors roller coaster.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, and and talking about dining, it's like I have a feeling Harry Hoosan's is gonna be a hot ticket because people love their sushi.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: And I have a feeling it's gonna be a real cool interior and a really cool experience.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I am I am really excited about the Muppet takeover of Rock and Roller Coaster.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: You know, it has got me super excited.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: So um, yeah, I just I love I love that the park is moving forward in new ways.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: And yes, it makes us say goodbye to things like Muppet Vision 3D and the Muppet Courtyard, and you know, we'll it's like Casablanca.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: We'll always have Paris, kid.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: It's like we'll always have those memories, those pictures will all be in the cloud somewhere of the Miss Piggy Fountain.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: We'll always have Muppets Courtyard, right?
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: But now we're gonna have new experiences down there at what's the name of the record?
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Big G, anti-G, G Spot.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's that's I don't think that's it.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: No, G Spot's different.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: Um there is a G in that though.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: It's like there's gravity for G Force, G Force, G Force, G Force, that's that's it.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: G Force.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: I knew we'd get there eventually, and hopefully in a mildly amusing way.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: Um so uh, but yeah, so my number one is is the evolution that the park is making, and I can't wait to you know four years from now or so when everything is done to maybe three, maybe we'll be lucky.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: Maybe that maybe maybe the door coaster will open in 28.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: Maybe sure, why not?
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: They're moving pretty fast, though.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so evolution was my number one, and that's great, and I I concur.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: I think it's a very you don't either.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: You meant number five, I but not with this being number one.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: No, but I just concur that it's a good number one.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: Uh my number one uh is the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: Um this is Disney storytelling at its finest, I think.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: It's creepy in its confidence.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: The movie might have topped the attraction.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Well, so I think that is a cinematic classic, sir.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: U with Steve Gutenberg?
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: With Sir Steve Sir Sir Steve Gutenberg.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Gutenberg and Kirsten Dunst.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Um I had it on VHS back in the day.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: Uh so because we recorded it, it was like an 80.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: Can you can you watch it on Disney Plus?
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: Is it on there?
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: I don't think it is, but I had you know, we recorded it off of ABC, you know, like back in the day.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: And uh so it had those old commercials and stuff on it, so that was exciting.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: But anyway, Tower of Terror.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: Uh shout out to Mr.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: Mark Silverman who was on our show last year, the year before.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, he was such a fun guest.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: We'll find that interview, everybody.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: You got a that's a great interview.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think the moment you step into like the queue and like the overgrown and like the fountain that's done the longer functional, I think, and you hear that echoey music.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Ooh, dysfunctional fountain would be a good band name.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Dysfunctional fountain.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Yes, this uh yeah, hobo goofy and the dysfunctional fountain.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Um my god, I saw them in Vegas.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: It was it was truly one, it was a life-changing moment.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: Um glad that they're doing the Vegas circuit.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Um they're a little older now, but Goofy doesn't have to shave, so he doesn't happy.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: But we have talked about the slow burn of that queue and the the voice uh work and the eerie elegance, you know, that the lobby has, and like just the details, ever just in the whole pre-show and in the the boiler room and everything.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: And I think it's great because it sets up the chaos that's about to happen.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: And some of those drops are so fantastic, and they're unforgettable, and it's always different, and you get that cool view of the park when everything opens, and you know, it's just thrilling and it's theatrical, and we like that because we're theater folk, and we do, you know, it's incredible, and I my trips are not complete without that, and I absolutely adore that attraction, and so does my daughter, and uh a lot of memories tied to it.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: So that's my number one, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Did you have any of the honorable mentions?
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: Um, I did or dishonorable mentions.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: No, I I did.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: I mentioned um similar to what you said about the food, I just kind of had that I do enjoy some of the restaurants there.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: Um I also honorable mention was Gertie, the dinosaur.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, there's some nostalgia.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: I find it interesting, neither one of us uh brought up Toy Storyland.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a fine little area.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: It is a fine little area, but I think that's the problem.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: It's a fine area.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: Now I will say Slinky Dog Dash is super fun.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, the ambiance at Woody's barbecue roundup is cool.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: I was not blown away by the food, but I'd be willing to go back and give it another shot.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: You certainly don't leave hungry.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I it's just never been an area we spend a lot of time in, and partly uh yeah, it's just there's no shade.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: I think that's part of it.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: But as opposed to our podcast, which has all the shade.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, we are known for our shade, sir.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I that is interesting.
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: Did you have any honorable mentions?
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Uh well uh the uh first time in forever frozen scene.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, that's a great one.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: I have been I have been touting its praises since I finally saw it in January, and now wonder what I waited so long for.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: That and the villain show is both, they're both great.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh my god, I forgot the villain show.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: It when I was first thinking about things I was gonna put down, I I was sure that was gonna be one of them.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Because honestly, I might I guess there's nothing I'd really knock off my list, but man, that villain show is fun.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I'm sad I didn't think about the shows really at all because even I kind of thought because I chose shows at Animal Kingdom because of Nemo and Lion King, but I was like, shows at shows at the studio.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: I was like, well, Beauty and the Beast.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: But I totally it's just because it's so new.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: It's not quite on my constant mental radar.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I uh man, I now I'm thinking about the frozen show.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: I I do love that show.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: That's like the dream job.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: So we should have had shows on there.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: We both should have.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: We should have.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: Screw, screw the the evolution.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: And I will say Skyliner access to that park.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: Do love that.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: I thought about I honestly thought about that too.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: I do love it, as you know.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, so yeah, so we've covered three of four, and we'll oh actually, we could probably cover eventually Disneyland in DCA as well.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we should.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: We should someday.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: But next week, hopefully, we'll have a special guest with us, and that should be entertaining.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: That would be very entertaining.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: We'll see what happens, especially if that guest is who the guest shall probably be, because he's very entertaining.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, we adore him, so I'm excited.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: Um, and we have some other special guests coming up as well.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: We're just trying to get some schedules worked out because it's always complicated.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: Hobo Goofy and the dysfunctional fountains are really their schedule.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: They're tough.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: They're they're hitting all the casinos, and you know, yeah, and and it's just really hard because they sleep late and and then they perform in the evenings when we record.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: So yeah, well they yeah, they perform by the slot machines from like five to twelve, you know.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: So it's hard.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: It's hard, you know.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: It is, but we'll get them someday.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: In the dysfunctional fountain.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: Well, that's a good one.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: That is a good one.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think they're I I think they're opening for cycling sweat through Sigorni it later later in the year.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: So I'm looking forward to it.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: My gosh, that's that's a popular cycling sweat through Sigourney.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: I might um I might steal that as a play title one day because that has a great title.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Because if you heard that I can hardly wait to see what the play is about.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: You'd be like, what is this play about?
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: Huh?
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: I think it has a marketing appeal.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: It's like a fiddler on the roof.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: It'll be a you know, a really and speaking of which people should go see Fiddler on the Roof app in the Quad City says it's just opening.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: It is just opening, and I I saw it last night at a staff preview, and it's quite good.
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: You know, it's a classic, and it's a classic for a reason.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: So supporting it.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: But I kind of remember thinking when I saw it as a kid, I wish he had like two daughters.
