- 0:33This has been a message from Podcast Tonight celebrating the best in audio.
- 0:38Welcome to Walk My Tardis, a podcast production of the fandom Frontier Network.
- 0:43[Music]
- 0:59And welcome once again to Walk My Tardis Podcast here on the fandom Frontier Podcast Network.
- 1:05I'm KJ the comic guy and this is not our usual recording day.
- 1:09No, it is not. But he is also joined by Security Dan.
- 1:14Yes, in white, in that place.
- 1:18This is what happens when we go on non-regular days but that was mainly my fault.
- 1:24Well, no, the Franken must have to happen.
- 1:28Yes.
- 1:29So that was important.
- 1:30And it's a tradition between you and other people that we know and specifically,
- 1:37you know, it has to do with our good friend who, you know, people would think was
- 1:42a good friend.
- 1:43Our friend Leon Neon.
- 1:44Leon Neon or the artist currently formerly known as Leon Neon, which strangely feels
- 1:50appropriate.
- 1:51It actually does.
- 1:53Yes.
- 1:54Now, it's a dear friend of mine and I introduced her to Ken.
- 2:02We played Coriolis. They played Intergalactic, Extra Nair Rockstar, Leon Neon.
- 2:12Yes.
- 2:13Basically Ziggy Stardust, but Spacy.
- 2:16And they have made appearances in various other media.
- 2:21But again, I've been long term friends and over the holidays to be non-denominational and
- 2:28entirely inclusive as possible because there was a lot of hydrogues that ensued.
- 2:35And she also has like a seven or eight-foot tall paper mache Frankenstein.
- 2:40It's a home decoration.
- 2:44We celebrate Frankenmas where a ridiculous amount of cheese is consumed.
- 2:51A nice short, short, couldri spread is put out.
- 2:54The cat is ordered from eating anything off the tables because cat and an F.A.G. of cheese,
- 3:04primarily velvita and cream cheese, is melted down to pass on a good cheer and get rid of
- 3:12and cleanse our bad intentions.
- 3:14So yes, that was a thing that I had to attend to on a regular shooting day.
- 3:20It was worth it.
- 3:24The tradition lives on.
- 3:27So, you know, now having done that, it actually prepared us a little bit better for an unfortunate
- 3:34tragic event that happened this week.
- 3:35So a little bit of news.
- 3:39Part of this channel is doing sci-fi and fantasy.
- 3:43And falling under the fantasy category or little movies like, oh, I don't know, The Princess
- 3:47Bride.
- 3:50We were saddened to hear about the tragic loss of Rob Reiner and his wife this week.
- 3:57Yeah.
- 3:58And the same news around that.
- 4:01It needs to be said.
- 4:02I mean, there have been other tragedies over the weekend.
- 4:05Oh, my God.
- 4:06The Australia tragedy, the Bondi Beach and the Brown University shooting at Brown University
- 4:13in Providence, Rhode Island.
- 4:15So we're not, we are not, we're not saying this to mitigate those tragedies, but in terms
- 4:22of our current milieu of sci-fi and fantasy again.
- 4:27And the response has been interesting and heartbreaking and heartfelt.
- 4:35I mean, we're, we hear what my Tartis are huge fans of the Princess Bride.
- 4:44It has definitely come up on more than one occasion during our gameplays through various
- 4:50things, whether it's, you know, out in the, you know, out in the outer reaches of space
- 4:58in the third horizon or, you know, while we're dealing with rifts and shenanigans in a
- 5:07bit more fantastical setting.
- 5:08You know, I do not think that means what you think it means.
- 5:11Well.
- 5:12You know, okay, I nearly, I nearly misquoted and was going to say something space balls
- 5:20ish because I was like, no, funny.
- 5:24They don't look Jewish, but that was, that was, that was this morning, that was this morning
- 5:31on our, our rift kickers chat that we use for all those of us who are, you know, in the
- 5:36rift kickers, the shattered heart D&D campaign.
- 5:42Yes.
- 5:43That is you can listen to every once in a while over on Geeks with dice, a sister show here
- 5:47on the fandom frontier podcast network, which you can find at fandom frontier dot CA.
- 5:52Also look for us on our social media.
- 5:54That would be on Instagram on threads and Facebook and Instagram threads Facebook.
- 6:00Yes.
- 6:01Okay.
- 6:02Got them.
- 6:03Yes.
- 6:04Which would be good.
- 6:05Yeah.
- 6:06And then, you know, work my Tartis, but also work my Tartis at fandom frontier dot CA for
- 6:10email.
- 6:11Anyway, no, this morning, we were, we threw a couple of, of, of big Mel Brooks, space balls
- 6:21quotes out on there because, you know, I see your bag and your storage is as big as mine.
- 6:28Yes.
- 6:29One of our fellow players in rift kickers, he's evolving his ability to carry dice and
- 6:36miniatures and books and initially it was a small carry case that he had purchased off
- 6:41of was it Timo or Ali Express?
- 6:43I can't remember.
- 6:45One of the two.
- 6:46Yeah.
- 6:47It was one of them.
- 6:48Unfortunately, the first one that he got, although, which was a very slick case, had a
- 6:53bit of an odor, a very strong odor, which he tried everything and it still wouldn't
- 7:01go.
- 7:02And eventually he upgraded and then eventually he has realized, oh no, since I want to actually
- 7:08carry the physical book and be able to make a reference, especially the players handbook
- 7:12and those who play, no, well, he's had to upgrade his kit to a much larger bag.
- 7:21In order to do, well, I think at this point, depending on how many books he decides to carry,
- 7:26he could also fit snacks in there.
- 7:29Yes.
- 7:30I think that's not enough.
- 7:32As many pockets, so by the many pockets.
- 7:35Yeah, but and so doing and of course this led to a discussion in rabbit hole of, you know,
- 7:43dice, dice goblins, yes, kit, miniature purchases and many quotes from the Princess bride and
- 7:51space balls and and and there's that but bring it back to Rob Reiner.
- 7:57He has a legacy of films both science fiction and or sorry, both fantasy and drama that
- 8:04are certainly memorable.
- 8:06His father obviously has another legacy of acting and directing and a lot of creativity.
- 8:17I mean, I remember what helped me get through the pandemic.
- 8:21I'm sure it was for many of our listeners and yourself, KJ was the pandemic version of
- 8:28the Princess bride where you had all the various actors playing different roles and just
- 8:35killing it, right?
- 8:37Because it was it was so well put together in as much as it's like people in their backyards
- 8:41doing stuff and then playing off of, you know, dummies because they're effectively doing
- 8:46it solo and realizing that, okay, in the age of content creators and YouTube, this was
- 8:53wholesome content and the fact that it was Carla and Rob that did the closing for that
- 9:02version of the Princess bride was, you know, it hit hard.
- 9:09Yeah.
- 9:10And nowadays to it hits harder because the context of what's going on and we're still,
- 9:16you know, we don't we haven't been given the details of what's going on.
- 9:20We know, I mean, we know that his son has been arrested.
- 9:24We know that it's it's incredibly tumultuous circumstances, especially given the time of
- 9:30year, given the everything.
- 9:34Yeah.
- 9:35But the entertainment community has reached out a huge way.
- 9:39A lot of of dedication is a lot of memorials going up.
- 9:47Unfortunately also and I'm not to be political, but an awful lot of bad publicity and bad
- 9:53press for the great giant Orange Cheeto.
- 9:58Yes.
- 9:59But I mean, like I was watching Kevin Bacon's discussion on that one.
- 10:09Watching the words from Carrie Uls and Mandy Patenkin and a lot of the celebrities there.
- 10:17And it's very clear that at the very least, you know, he was very well loved by the community.
- 10:26And you know, it's going to be a thing.
- 10:29We are in an age that we pointed this out before that there's going to be a lot of celebrities
- 10:34that are older that are going to pass.
- 10:36Unfortunately, this one was not a natural circumstance, but again, we don't know.
- 10:43But in our heart goes out to that and, you know, hopefully, hopefully we have better times
- 10:50in the near future.
- 10:52But there was another celebrity death that we didn't really talk to.
- 10:58And I'm trying to remember, I have the name in front of me and I remember the role.
- 11:03He played the actual bad guy in the mask.
- 11:08Oh, yes.
- 11:13And he's been around for a long, long time.
- 11:16Peter Green.
- 11:17Yes, thank you.
- 11:19And he was in the mask.
- 11:21He was in pulp fiction.
- 11:26He's been in a lot of movies and a lot of TV shows.
- 11:29Again, another great character actor.
- 11:31I remember more recently seeing him in justified.
- 11:37And he's known for those roles.
- 11:38He had a distinctive look.
- 11:43Apparently, yeah, he died at age 60.
- 11:49Yeah.
- 11:50But it's kind of scary when you go back and start looking at some of these guys and you look
- 11:57at their total career and everything they did.
- 11:59And you're like, I didn't know he was in that.
- 12:01I didn't know he was in that.
- 12:03He was in that.
- 12:05Yeah.
- 12:06Yeah.
- 12:07It's just more and more.
- 12:09And you just end up running down a rabbit hole and going, I can't believe that he was in
- 12:14all of these things.
- 12:15Yeah.
- 12:16And the mask kind of falls under fantasy.
- 12:18It's a bit more calm.
- 12:19While it is, it is from a comic book, but the movie version was far more family friendly
- 12:27and compared to the original comic source.
- 12:32But he could play a villain very well.
- 12:37Like you believe to him as the character actor villain.
- 12:40And that's something that you want.
- 12:42At least in terms of if you're going to go big, go big.
- 12:48And I think some characters are better suited for that role and you need a good villain.
- 12:54You need someone who's going to be strong about it.
- 12:57And I mean, the classic trope is the fact that at least in a superhero or comic book-esque
- 13:03thing, playing the heroes all one good, but it's hard to keep them interesting when you
- 13:09have a villain that gets to chew the scenery.
- 13:13So.
- 13:14Yeah.
- 13:15Yeah.
- 13:16So.
- 13:17But yeah, there's tragedy in the tragedy, but hopefully again, we're in a season where
- 13:24it's the near the end of the year.
- 13:28I can imagine that a lot of us are kind of over 2025, even though it's still around for a
- 13:33few more weeks.
- 13:34Yep.
- 13:35And we're going to talk to that in just a little bit.
- 13:37But before we talk to that and talking about things ending and wrapping up, there's been
- 13:43a lot of social media posts on individual pages as well as on general pages having to
- 13:51do with Star Trek Strange New Worlds and the wrapping of the principal photography here
- 13:57in Mississauga, the West End of Toronto, that we've seen Jess Bush post her final day.
- 14:07We've seen Christina Chong post her final day.
- 14:12It's we're getting to the point it's wrapping up.
- 14:15We know that we're not going to see the next installation or installation.
- 14:21I guess the installment of Strange New Worlds until either end 26 or early 2027 and then
- 14:28we'll get the final piece.
- 14:30And it's it's kind of bittersweet for us because we followed Strange New Worlds became
- 14:36just passion for you and I as far as bringing us back into the world of Star Trek, even
- 14:41more so than what Picard did.
- 14:44Yeah.
- 14:45Look, here's the thing, Picard was interested because we all I mean Patrick Stewart became
- 14:54such an icon and Picard became such a touchstone because you had this sort of quiet dignity
- 15:04for a character that felt more like as opposed to Captain Kirk who would be a bit more running
- 15:09gun in your face and they tried to do that with Picard it didn't quite land whereas Picard
- 15:15was more than negotiator.
- 15:17He felt like the passions were more diplomacy first and I mean it was rocky but it was a great
- 15:25principle and it was nice to kind of see a few of the old friends but then then you take
- 15:30a look at how season three ended up because a budget they had to cut cast for season
- 15:38one and two and then they changed things around where it felt more like a genuine reunion
- 15:44and a love letter right in at a time where you had discovery that wasn't middly rocky and
- 15:52yet I'm doing my rewatch and I'm starting to appreciate it a lot more than I did when
- 15:57it was actually airing.
- 15:59I think because I'm watching it on my schedule and same thing with Laura Dex, Laura Dex was
- 16:04always a fan love letter but not that you didn't have to watch it didn't have to be a fan
- 16:11to appreciate it but it helped if you knew the lore so the problem with this lore Dex is
- 16:18it had a lot more baggage with it in such a way that you needed to know the lore to really
- 16:26really get the deep cuts that they're sending at you.
- 16:30It felt so far afield and then finally when you take a look at say strange in worlds it understood
- 16:38some of the issues that people had with discovery but then it had or it has it's not done it's
- 16:48not going to be done for another couple of years.
- 16:50Damn it but it has a particular heart to it that I don't think we've seen in a long time
- 16:58in science fiction because it's still it feels like it tried to mash our current feelings
- 17:12and sentiments and requirements of hope with that kind of camp wonder that we had with
- 17:21the original series.
- 17:23With a lot more forth thought towards where the characters are going and the fact that
- 17:27we know that a lot of the principal cast are not going to be there in the end.
- 17:32It's going to be a new cast because of course it has to naturally lead to Kirk's Enterprise
- 17:39and the adventures in TOS right but then it made you actually I feel compared to every
- 17:46other Trek.
- 17:50SNW makes you appreciate almost every single one of the bridge characters and and of course
- 17:59the medical right.
- 18:02Yeah that's why I like when it's what there's a much more balanced show.
- 18:07I mean let's face it.
- 18:09Strange New Worlds gives us a balance of engineering it gave us much more of what went
- 18:13on in the medical bay and in research labs it gave us a much stronger view of the bridge
- 18:21but not only the bridge but also briefing rooms interactions with other ships that we
- 18:25didn't really see in original series.
- 18:30Very little interactions with the classic villains so no Romulans really no the Goren became
- 18:38the primary like not had the klingons we've not had the Romulans we've not had you know
- 18:43a bunch of those other creatures and humanoids very few I mean you know there was more with
- 18:55the klingons when it was discovery.
- 19:00Yeah but that's the thing too like I mean we were talking at this in the pre show Jess Bush
- 19:07has wrapped she's already back home but then you start to see the creative soul of her because
- 19:12I mean when you that she was an alternative artist and who has a very deep affinity for bugs
- 19:24but apparently she was the one who put together a photos scrapbook for the entire cast and
- 19:32I mean it's exclusive to them and a few of them like Anson Mount have posted okay here's
- 19:37a few snippets that without spoiling anything this is how thoughtful Jess was or is right
- 19:47Christina Chong has posted her that she's wrapped right and the legacy of the like I mean
- 19:55she's excited it's there as anyone who has listened to at least our version of the podcast
- 20:02they know I've met her you know and they know how much I appreciate her work so there is
- 20:12that I and it was interesting too because there's another actor Ontario born Den Genote who plays
- 20:20George Samuel Kirk you know this is a the xenobiologist and I was scrolling his socials
- 20:31and he posted for the first time he's like like no like like someone pinched me for the fact
- 20:38that you know I got to be part of this ride and here's some of the behind the scenes high
- 20:42jinx where you have effectively a dude that was that started off at least to the audience
- 20:51in the original series as a mustashod what's it called William Schattner yeah right to
- 21:01this one character that became both a goofball and kind of a character you want to root for
- 21:07you also we also know that martin Quinn has wrapped I believe yes right and answered obviously
- 21:15has answered mountain has definitely posted more frequently about like the coming days like
- 21:20it the end is coming right but he's still excited for the ride wouldn't change it for the
- 21:26world which you're like you start to realize oh man it's it's gonna be interesting right because
- 21:34when you that trek would have to go through its rocky periods which I would argue would be
- 21:39discovery when you that there was going to be haters that are going to go throughout for
- 21:43both discovery Picard a lower dex and strange new worlds and people are going to argue about
- 21:49politicization and wokeness and all that stuff and yet you know here it is with still a lot more
- 21:58legs that's going to be better sweet right and and it's still I think we've talked about this almost
- 22:04every single show we've shot for what my turtis right because that's the light pretty much pretty
- 22:11much that's it you're right right so and that's something that again we're gonna hopefully in the
- 22:18future with cons and and the thing will get a better chance because this is one of a few crews
- 22:26that I would kind of like to meet like they they they made it such thing actually in the pre-show
- 22:35I also mentioned too that there was some online talk not that we don't know what we're going to see
- 22:40for season three and four but or sorry four and five rather but they've done such a good job of
- 22:48having characters there that typically that they've almost gone the the full circle galaxy quest root of
- 22:57you know Sam Rockwell's character as random dude who all if who eventually gets a speaking role
- 23:04and a name as opposed to just generic red shirt right so he was named guy and then it it almost makes
- 23:14it that I want to see say there's a secondary character named named Jenna Mitchell played by wrong
- 23:19foo and she's usually found on the bridge trading looks with with Melissa Navi as or take us yeah and
- 23:32she's had a few speaking lines and I'm like she's almost the o'Brien of the crew because a Brian didn't
- 23:41have to say much on TNG you'll say he didn't get to say much on T. Yeah but but there was a particular
- 23:52you know there's a particular particular character that you see in her that I'm thinking back to
- 23:59season one where she's there and she gets a in the fantasy episode where they talk about Benga's
- 24:06daughter you know she gets to go up against Melissa and in the kind of a weird dnd ask fantasy sequence
- 24:17and then you see her in season three where Pike goes up to her and says hey you should take a break
- 24:29and she's like with respects or I'm sticking around right and you're like for a tertiary character
- 24:37you're like I want to know more about like where some of these these people end up yeah yeah agree
- 24:45yeah and I kind of would I would like to see at least give me a give me a little bit more of a give
- 24:51me a bit more cheese when it comes to like at least a bit more speaking roles of the secondary
- 24:57the tertiary character doing stuff at least an episode yeah yeah so yeah no I can see that and I agree
- 25:05with that there's there's an awful lot that could be done that can be done that there's so many
- 25:10so many characters that just haven't been able to shine yet yes and we'll see what happens when
- 25:20in January we get Star Trek Starfleet Academy yes we're now looking forward to that the the
- 25:28amount of spoiler trailers that have come out and everything the official and and leaks footage
- 25:35there's a lot to it well you know Paul Gematti chewing all of the scenery is nothing new yeah
- 25:47it'll be interesting how they play it because right now we don't know who the we don't know enough
- 25:52about the characters despite the fact that yes there's been some early snippets and screenshots and
- 25:58people kind of none too happy about it we do have a friend of ours that is sitting there going yeah
- 26:06I'm not even gonna bother trying and I'm like okay that's a bit of a that's a take it's a take
- 26:14so there is that but we'll see um in terms of that there hasn't really really been much
- 26:25on the Star Wars front on the Star Trek front obviously you know some people have been privileged to
- 26:30get the new LEGO Star Trek uh USS Enterprise D uh the unfortunate comedy is there's uh
- 26:44there's uh the dedication plaque that most ships come with it does have a miniaturized copy of that
- 26:51sort of and apparently there was a typo yeah we're trying to today uh breeze and I were trying to
- 27:00figure that one out and we pulled it up and had a good laugh at the fact that as opposed to boldly
- 27:05someone wrote boldi or it looks like baldy baldy baldy go where's where no one has gone before
- 27:13well well and then and then you saw that they corrected it but made another mistake yes
- 27:18so so I was like uh you know if I was selfish and in it for the money then I would leave the box
- 27:26closed because I I got one of the first gen ones I assume uh but but yeah it will not I win its box
- 27:38yeah I will say this Christmas build I will say this though somebody somebody out there in the in
- 27:44the internet world bought two oh yes and and did the uh yeah and they they went and then combined the
- 27:53two to create the Enterprise D um modified yes that would be from all good things from TNG where you
- 28:02have admiral riker flying the the updated or captaining the updated enterprise e which had a mega
- 28:12phaser it was it was not e it was still d it was yeah the model yeah the upgraded d which had a third
- 28:18naysel uh apparently more phaser banks and had a mega phaser canon thing on the underside of the
- 28:27saucer section which is impressive it also makes me wonder too uh if it's it's riker of course it
- 28:37had bigger guns well yeah I mean look we can see that happening but I mean the structural question is
- 28:45should they have to separate the saucer from the the the the the star drive uh where does the Canon
- 28:55echo yes again not that we ever saw that on screen not that it could still actually do that and
- 29:05galaxy clash ships can fit a thousand people and they're not small I get no there are massive ships
- 29:10massive mass of ships anyway um all right moving on from the world of Star Trek because
- 29:17you still got a ton of stuff to cover uh we have both seen the first episode of the doctor who
- 29:24the war of land and sea yes and what will we what will we say right off the hop this is not going to be
- 29:34an easy watch um yeah it's it's a it's a bit of a more difficult watch because as much as it's a doctor
- 29:46who adjacent series we know the doctor does not appear in this at all so there is no all the tension
- 29:56that leads up to well when's the doctor going to show up it's not happening well it's it's kind of
- 30:03interesting because typically speaking whenever there's something world possibly world shadowy
- 30:11right which isn't to say that the doctor has been there for every single event but if you take a look
- 30:19at the series and how how the doctor has been presented through what I'm going to call new who
- 30:24the consistency is whenever there's going to be something world shattering whether it's a giant
- 30:29christmas ornament floating in space filled with spiders or uh a moon that has turned out to be an egg
- 30:39or you know whatever world consuming crisis the doctor has been there and I feel like
- 30:46we're so used to seeing the doctor show up when there's something pivotal on earth that we forget
- 30:54that he's not just hanging out on earth right and also given the time frame that we're seeing here
- 31:06the internal logic that I would say would be wait a second 14 is still on earth
- 31:13even though he's in semi-retirement he would as soon as something like that would have happened he
- 31:20would have jumped in it as much as he's retired right but now he's he's normal so is is he and is
- 31:29he actually there is he gone off you know is he gone off with Rose uh giving her you know trips to
- 31:37Mars and such as that so we don't know exactly what the time frame is of this in comparison to
- 31:43what we saw for the 60th what we you know what we've seen in the transition when we went to
- 31:49Chuty you know is this after the doctor is left after the the Chuty got with episodes
- 31:56we just don't have a good reference right so there's that but uh I think one of the
- 32:03I'm gonna get you to put it in the show notes once I find the otters name but there's a
- 32:09there's a sci-fi shorts creator that put out
- 32:15up one of the best description of this series where he basically said it's
- 32:21this is not Dr. Who the war between the land and the sea is is more in the vein of some of the
- 32:29torchwood mini series that have come out very much to like you know was a I want to say children
- 32:37of men but that's the that's the wrong title for it uh children of earth yeah or miracle day
- 32:48it sort of feels like that and I found I remember when I was watching those series the pacing was
- 32:55very different than what I was expecting because Dr. Who has to wrap in an hour right it's it's usually
- 33:03pretty like I you don't really get the you don't really get how fast your average episode of Dr.
- 33:15Who moves until you compare it to what they did with torchwood particularly in the mini series
- 33:21because they have to stretch the story right uh personally I'm more surprised that torchwood's not
- 33:28in the middle of it there that's right but torchwood if we follow the timeline torchwood is already
- 33:38been abolished so torchwood's been abandoned it's not there the torchwood team the group is not even
- 33:43there jack is somewhere in in america um jantos i believe dead um if there's there's there's just there's
- 33:54nothing left so it's it's all just divided up and and doesn't exist yeah I suppose I mean I also kind of
- 34:04I'm also more surprised too that Gwen Cooper isn't in the middle of it
- 34:11yeah and I mean that's the thing is we know that at least in the storyline that we were given
- 34:16Gwen and jack end up going off because Gwen has
- 34:22try and remember who she's married she has a kid right she's married with a child um jack is uncle jack
- 34:29oh yeah but you know how do you explain that he's never gonna grow old anyway yeah so you have
- 34:36that now in terms of the actual first episode i like the idea of the fact that you have
- 34:44this fishing boat and weirdly when you first see that creature popping out of the the net
- 34:52it gave me very aquaman vibes with the the creatures from the deep right in terms of
- 35:01it oh it was almost they was very much in the vein of we're gonna do aqua horror by way of
- 35:07james one and binescio d'autoro not binescio d'autoro guiermo d'autoro d'autoro when it comes to like
- 35:18fishman horror um
- 35:25the fact that they it was this tiny fishing village and then they have this creature hang there
- 35:33was very off-putting to me and i'm like i keep expecting him to wake up kind of jeepers creeper style
- 35:41i don't know if you got that sense yeah yeah yeah i i know what you mean right because the way that
- 35:50they'd done it feels like that um and but then when you have the liquefaction of the floor
- 35:57and that horror there of oh no are they gonna make it and you just think okay they're just claiming
- 36:04the bodies and then you find out uh it's far worse oh yeah yeah it's like i like the fact of this horror
- 36:12relevance but um also i was surprised too for something that's supposed to be about unit and the fact
- 36:21that they need to deal with something they sure took a long time at least in the first episode
- 36:26to introduce the characters that we already knew from doctor who and that was like your pacing
- 36:33feels off like i feel like Kate would have been would have been right up there if if if it's it's like a
- 36:40first contacting yeah and i think that's the problem that exists with this is that
- 36:48if you're trying to create a new doctor who offshoot show as a long term project
- 36:57then you need to embrace those tertiary characters from the main timeline and have them more
- 37:08active in doing things in the main screen if if you're going to delay them i mean we were talking about
- 37:16Martha Jones and we were talking about uh Donna Noble and we were talking about Mel and and you know
- 37:27these companions that are still in this universe at this time that don't show up so there's there's
- 37:35just not a strong tie into the doctor who time stream other than through Kate yeah and it's it's tough
- 37:46yeah it's yeah because i mean we had it okay just to fill you in we had a discussion with regards to
- 37:55some of the characters in the universe and where they are right so you go back to
- 38:05uh tens last episode where he's now made the sacrifice and he's going around on his last hurrah
- 38:13effectively saying goodbye to everyone and you have Mickey and Martha
- 38:22under fire by son Terran and then of course the doctor saves the day or at least saves them right but
- 38:31as far as we knew at least in terms of the lore and they may maybe it's in the extant books but
- 38:36Martha was working with unit right yes yeah she's she the last we saw her she was deep inside of unit as a
- 38:49i don't want to call her a leader or manager but she was in that level of of administration
- 38:56yeah so you have that and then you had
- 39:02uh what's called you have uh you have mel you have rose you have donna all working for unit right
- 39:21yep so it's it's kind of weird that they aren't there when it's literally it's clearly a global thing
- 39:31that's happening right so that was that was the thing that i'm saying they're going i don't know
- 39:39like it it may be looking and go huh like there's that but i can set that aside um
- 39:50it's some interesting connections too because then you have the brand new character uh played by
- 39:56russell tovi a veteran of who you know alanzo as uh yes as alanzo but then he points out too he's
- 40:10like oh yeah only i met the doctor once and all of it was just say hello but i want more of that
- 40:17which was kind of an interesting take on you know how there's certain like and not everyone who works for
- 40:27unit gets to interact with a doctor right and it's kind of one of those things of
- 40:32to quote tenison the doctor feels like people's albatross where either you'll get really good luck
- 40:40or you'll die horribly yeah yeah that tends to be you'll get sucked in unintentionally to some
- 40:47misadventure particularly because the doctor looked you once yeah and that's pretty much the way that
- 40:55the the whole idea of the companion's works you know or assist it or whatever you want to call
- 41:01them you know depending on which genre of the doctor you're talking to but um i think that one
- 41:08of the critical things that's that and we'll have to see once we watch more of the show yeah more of
- 41:13the episodes whether or not it starts to pick up and whether or not it ties in better um i'm worried
- 41:21about it that this we're we're another year away from any doctor who related content being the uh
- 41:29rose tyler slash you know doctor reincarnated issue the bad wolf um the christmas special for
- 41:38twenty twenty six yes it's it's going to be a long slog and i mean the big news is that the bbc
- 41:47has declared and secured doctor who in bbc is its home base it's not moving anywhere it's not going
- 41:55to any other streaming service and they did say that the the current showrunner is staying so they're
- 42:05not changing that either which is all good news for some people and maybe not good news for everyone
- 42:11but yeah so it's going to be it's going to be interesting i will say to to russell tovies credit
- 42:19he has one of those faces that i didn't okay we're talking about this in the pre show
- 42:25looking at the characters in generally generally their builds
- 42:30yeah for a dude who's just literally in terms of in charge of transport and really shouldn't be there
- 42:35when they put him in scale next to any of the other people in unit he's huge yeah yeah right
- 42:48massive okay i'm not the only one who noticed that you saw it too yep kj right where he's not a small
- 42:56dude no but what i'm really digging and this is kind of what you see when you're watching it is
- 43:07somehow he plays this whole who me why look very well and again it's not CG as far as i can tell
- 43:21but there's a wonderful moment near the end of the episode where they do a close-up of him and
- 43:27like if they they could not make someone look more puppy doggy in the oh shit i'm pooping my pants and
- 43:37i don't know what to do moment except for the fact that they just chose the perfect action to do that
- 43:43because not many people can pull that off properly where you're like i feel you i don't know why i feel
- 43:49you but yeah you're screwed right because he because the entire first episode he has this
- 43:58perpetual oh shit oh shit oh shit too uh uh you know someone peed in my suit i don't know if it was
- 44:10hold me baby me or me me and he doesn't better than most so i don't know it's it's a slog there's some
- 44:21great horror moments seeing the fact that they're playing up with the whole uh what i'm gonna derogatory
- 44:28call sea devils um as a diverse species in and of itself the fact that they're coming right out and
- 44:37saying yeah we want to talk to you because all of you screwed us up you know he is still heartwarming but
- 44:44i guess we're gonna see and uh i mean by the time we come back we will hopefully have seen more of the
- 44:53series if it hasn't wrapped but we'll speak to that i guess now because it's kind of important
- 45:00yeah so we're going to be taking a couple of weeks break uh our next episode will come back in
- 45:06January right as Starfleet Academy comes out so just after that the Starfleet Academy comes out on
- 45:13the 15th uh so the weekend after that is the 18th so that will be our first episode back for season 10
- 45:20of what my Tartus podcast uh we're taking a couple weeks break over the Christmas holiday
- 45:26and New Year's holiday um we'll be watching Fallout because it's as we are speaking Fallout is coming
- 45:33out tomorrow uh they moved it forward by a day from a Thursday to a Wednesday just for me um so
- 45:41we'll get more Fallout you know more of the ghoul more of you know our favorite characters uh you know
- 45:48lots of power suits everything goes along with it as we go into new Vegas um there is the Christmas
- 45:54with the ghoul 90 minute special so you know make sure that you watch that we'll be talking about that
- 46:00as well yes over the the next few weeks we're going to be looking at how we're going to program
- 46:09for the next season of War of My Tartus uh we know that uh by the time may comes around so we're
- 46:17right around the time we're going to hit episodes 17 18 oh that's right Matt Dinniman
- 46:24Dungeon Crawler Carl book eight comes out yes so we will be back with more Dungeon Crawler Carl uh
- 46:31I have a feeling that I'm going to start over the Christmas holidays re-listening to the Dungeon Crawler
- 46:37Carl series so that I am back up to date and ready to go when uh the new book comes out in May
- 46:43and just a boat tail off of DCC because of course we have talked about it obsessively uh someone did
- 46:49I saw post today that someone pointed out uh Patrick Warburden has three sons and they have recorded
- 46:56videos where they can do very good versions of his character almost like because he's aged up his voice
- 47:04they also did it where they were doing an anniversary thing over at Disney and they actually got
- 47:11his sons to to reprise his role as krunk uh and do their versions and someone said
- 47:19as a fan cast you know if there were live action or they needed anyone to do voice work
- 47:25as character models they should have grabbed they should write start off for anyone to play Carl
- 47:32if not Patrick Warburden himself because he's a little bit too old for that one um but they get
- 47:39his actual sons as possible cast things so that that was uh it was a fun little tidbit of course with
- 47:45regards to the warp my tardis book club yes we are looking at submissions we i have started on one
- 47:51of them that was suggested to us uh i'm only a few pages in so far uh i will not reveal the series right
- 47:58now because uh that's probably a season 10 thing for us uh but we do also welcome book submissions
- 48:06and suggestions whether it's cross media on audible or whatever stream uh streaming vocal service
- 48:13or actual physical books please send us your recommendations and we are looking at having some
- 48:19guest join us in season 10 where we will be talking about some of the sci-fi books sci-fi movies
- 48:27and some of the technology that's shown and whether or not you know what's what's actually behind it
- 48:32yes uh and yes of course we have ongoing content there um
- 48:40do we mention this yet with regards to uh voting for us oh that's right hey yes we're still in the running
- 48:49there were still a few weeks away in the voting as far as the uh the podcast tonight awards for
- 48:562026 which will be wrapping up towards the end of January uh still get your votes in for the
- 49:03people's choice award the link is in the show notes uh you look for us there uh we're really looking forward
- 49:10to number one it's it's an industry wide event it's an opportunity for us to get ourselves
- 49:17rated and they're going to be doing reviews of the podcast and what they like what they don't
- 49:25what we can do to improve ourselves that's part of this is it's actually a peer review as well as
- 49:31it is an award show um we're really looking forward to the opportunity to to hear from the
- 49:38panel of experts on what we can do to make our show better you know whether it's sound quality whether
- 49:44it's our intro outros whether or not it's having a more lockdown format please know um we kind of
- 49:51like this banter yes but um you know that's coming if you look our links in our social media we've got
- 49:59the link to uh the podcast awards there as well so you can find that on on yeah i'm gonna set it
- 50:07on instagram on facebook and on threads we are work my tardis we are also work my tardis at fandom

- 50:22that's our website as well as there are links there to the podcast tonight awards website specifically
- 50:29to our page to allow you to vote for the people's choice award yes and with that being said of course
- 50:37we have our sister show uh oh that's right geeks with days watch for that uh geeks with days there's uh
- 50:43there's a couple of episodes out there's a couple more coming there's probably going to be something
- 50:48done over the christmas holidays i haven't decided what yet but uh and even on the choreolis front
- 50:54that i am running uh we have our friend in town we will actually have hopefully every single member
- 51:01of the crew in country uh maybe not necessarily at the same table but we will we'll do our best to
- 51:09kind of bring you content in that front as well so yes uh i guess that's about it i mean our year and
- 51:19review has been insane we've had a lot of craziness happen we've covered a lot of
- 51:26content we had a we ran a live event we ran a live event that again you got a shoot uh i i i
- 51:36said this to someone at frankin mess recently where i said look with all the things that we're doing
- 51:44and we were we were juggling a lot at the time too so it was it was insane to try but we had to do it
- 51:51but the resolution that that at least i've found is you got to shoot for the stars if you make it to
- 51:59the moon on the way there uh it it's good and it shows you the start but you got to shoot for it
- 52:07anyways but if you don't then you know yeah it's a long road to get there it's a long road to get
- 52:15there but it's an awful lot of fun getting there oh great i'm i'm now thinking of uh now hearing jack
- 52:20black for school rock that one it could have been worse it could have been you know the theme from
- 52:25enterprise well anyway i have been i have not quite finally been yet so we're not so that one up
- 52:36so he has been security damn security and you have been kj and we will see you in the new year with
