- 0:22SPEAKER_00: We all want success, but sometimes we forget that it comes at a price.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Take Harper Lee, for example.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: She published the classic American novel To Kill a Mockingbird in 1960 when she was just 34 years old.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Considering that many successful authors don't get started until their 40s, she was practically a baby by most standards of literary success.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: But the success of To Kill a Mockingbird overwhelmed her, and Harper Lee never wrote another novel again.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Fame had come too quickly, and it simply was too much for her to handle.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: She once said, When you're at the top, there's only one way to go.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: So Harper Lee spent the rest of her life making sure she would never risk putting out another work that would sully her reputation or cause her even more emotional distress.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, that doesn't mean you or I would respond that way to fame, fortune, or success.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Harper Lee had her own demons, and nobody but her will ever know exactly what was going on inside her head.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: However, her life is a stark warning to all of us who dream of having that number one bestseller being on all the talk shows or getting all that attention that we ever wanted.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So be careful what you wish for, because as Harper Lee has shown us, success can be both a blessing and a curse.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Does the thought of great writing success scare you?
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Why or why not?
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: I want to take a moment to thank today's sponsor, Vellum.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: As a writer, you not only want to write great books, you also want them to look professionally formatted and give your reader a great experience.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: If you've ever tried to format a book in Microsoft Word, you know how frustrating it can be to make your book look good using a tool that was never designed for formatting.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: That's why for years my go-to choice for book formatting software has been Vellum.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Vellum gives you the power to build, style, and preview your book and have more fun than you ever thought possible while doing it.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: It's the go-to choice for indie authors who care about creating beautiful ebooks and print books and want to save tons of time in the process.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Best of all, you can download Vellum and play with your book's formatting to your heart's content.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: You only have to purchase when you're ready to publish.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: To download Vellum for free, visit trivellum.comslash daily.
