- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by C Keith. This is episode 399.
- 0:18I'll be your host, Kyle Cord. And I'm here with my Co host
- 0:21Nate Reyes and Nate. Hello.
- 0:23Hello. I hate the Diamondbacks.
- 0:37You hate them. I'm just going to come right out
- 0:38and say it. It's not for the reasons that
- 0:41you would think. I don't actually have anything
- 0:44against the D backs. See.
- 0:45Don't hate them. No, I do, but not actually.
- 0:51But I do, and I'll tell you why. OK, for selfish reasons.
- 0:57OK, we mapped it out like an episode or two ago.
- 1:01Maybe three, possibly four. Ah yes, that we were going to
- 1:08finish the year, finish the season with episode 400.
- 1:12Yes, having picked the Rangers myself, thinking that they would
- 1:18make light work of the the D backs, they win the first game,
- 1:21I said OK, we're right on track here.
- 1:24And then the D backs come out and just put a good old
- 1:29fashioned Smackin sure did on the Rangers in game two, which
- 1:34now means technically my prediction.
- 1:38Still, I mean, we're still within the realm of possibility
- 1:43there. Rangers in five.
- 1:44That's what I did say. I said 6:00, so I think we're,
- 1:47yeah, I just didn't. I wish they would have broken up
- 1:52the wins a little more efficiently now because the odds
- 1:57of them went in three straight and then us being able to end
- 2:00the season with episode 4. Or recap the the finale of the
- 2:04World Series with episode 400. The chances of that are pretty
- 2:06slim now. Yeah, because now we've got for
- 2:10the whole thing. That's kind of what I was
- 2:12thinking, because otherwise I feel like we're going to have
- 2:14this weird, like, all right 30. Minute episode that has nothing
- 2:18to do with four recap in one game like game six or seven or
- 2:22something. I don't know.
- 2:23So all that to say, not the biggest fan of the Rangers right
- 2:27now. They should have just rolled
- 2:27over and died. We could just get the heck out
- 2:29of here in like 10 minutes and then just say this is 399.5 or
- 2:37you know, the next one B .5. This one's a half a one.
- 2:41I don't know. Could get creative.
- 2:43We could a could milk it. 399A and then we toss in A-399-B and
- 2:49then round it out 400. There you go.
- 2:53I'll have to say, though, game one, let's just let's go through
- 2:56the first two games here, checking in two games in game
- 2:59one. I think you said it right
- 3:02before. We hopped on the best game of
- 3:04the postseason thus far, and I would have to agree.
- 3:07Yeah, it's not close, Not close Back in, I mean, I was trying, I
- 3:11was trying to think of what the, what number two would be.
- 3:16And the fact that I have to think about it tells you where
- 3:18this postseason's been. Yeah, maybe the.
- 3:25I don't know. I couldn't even tell you.
- 3:28Maybe the Diamondbacks walk off, the walk off.
- 3:37Yeah, they hit a little walk off bloop single.
- 3:39Remember that? Which series?
- 3:45They were hosting, oh, the Phillies series.
- 3:49Pretty sure it was against the Phillies, yeah.
- 3:51Yeah. Like game three-game four, maybe
- 3:55Game 3-4. Yeah.
- 3:56Yeah, that's right. I remember now.
- 3:58OK Yeah, I'm. Yeah, Yeah, yeah.
- 4:00But even then it's like even then it's like barely 2nd place,
- 4:04barely. There's a big gap between 1st
- 4:06and it's a distant second. Yeah, Game one.
- 4:09Best game we've seen this. Best postseason game we've seen
- 4:11thus far, for sure. The Adoles Garcia game, many are
- 4:17calling it. This is the Adoles Garcia Month.
- 4:21The month, Yeah. Before we get into the actual
- 4:24gameplay, did you see there's a lot of commentary going around
- 4:29right now regarding the photo that it was.
- 4:34I actually I I included it in one of my.
- 4:37Posts that I put out the the bicep photo.
- 4:39Dude, can you explain that? Can anybody explain that?
- 4:44Explain what just the picture the the human being the specimen
- 4:50featured in that photo. Specimen is the right word.
- 4:55Yeah, I mean that is that's. What I'm saying dude, he's built
- 5:01like a middle linebacker. Like, I think, yeah, his bicep
- 5:11is definitely as big as somebody's head.
- 5:17It's nuts. I'm here for it.
- 5:24Dude's a monster, yeah. But man, what a great start for
- 5:34the Rangers though, and like I said, we'll get into it.
- 5:37Obviously Corey Seeger, Game time.
- 5:39Two run Homer, Bottom of the ninth, one out.
- 5:43Then you have the obvious walk off.
- 5:44But I think the the take away from game one was that it was a
- 5:53it had to have been a rather demoralizing loss for the Astros
- 5:57because you played your brand of baseball.
- 6:00You played it well, you played small ball.
- 6:02You had there was AI think in the same what was it?
- 6:05The same. And then you had a sacrifice
- 6:09bunt, a triple and a stolen base.
- 6:11Like that's that's D backs baseball.
- 6:15Baseball. Yeah, in a single inning.
- 6:20And yet you hold the D backs to minimal damage until obviously
- 6:28you get to the 9th and and beyond.
- 6:29But to be able to play that well right out of the gate, to play
- 6:33your brand of baseball and then drop it via walk off, that has
- 6:38to be a rather demoralizing loss.
- 6:39But clearly they had. They had enough time to bounce
- 6:45back to hit the reset button and come out swing.
- 6:47Game two, but strong way to come out for the Rangers.
- 6:54What was the Yeah for sure like the never say die.
- 7:00That team is just. I mean you you can't it can't be
- 7:03within striking distance like in this this game too I think was
- 7:07like the first. I think it was the.
- 7:11First blowout that they like, really?
- 7:15Or the Rangers really were just out of it.
- 7:18Like every game, every loss has been.
- 7:20I think it's only what their third or fourth loss.
- 7:24So they've been playing good ball.
- 7:27Yeah, the Diamondbacks, I mean, that's that's whatever.
- 7:34It's funny because like I was telling you before, we got on
- 7:36there's because they're in it. I'm surrounded by people here
- 7:40that don't typically care about baseball, that are now like
- 7:43watching the World Series for obvious reasons, 'cause, you
- 7:46know, everyone here is kind of into it.
- 7:49And I feel like I'm just, I'm surrounded by the Co workers or
- 7:52friends, like ask me questions and they're like do you think
- 7:55the Diamondbacks have pulled off?
- 7:56And I'm and I said it the last pod.
- 7:59I'll say it again, the team doesn't beat themselves like
- 8:03they don't like the Diamondbacks don't they don't play bad
- 8:06baseball. If you beat them, you beat them
- 8:10because you're playing. Well, it's not because the
- 8:12Diamondbacks gave you a dub, you know what I mean?
- 8:15Like they're not, and game one's a perfect example of.
- 8:16That exactly like you. You didn't.
- 8:18That's just how baseball goes. That's I think Torre Lavella's
- 8:20quote. It was like, it's just how the
- 8:22game goes sometimes. But yeah, like they're just,
- 8:26they're super sound, dude. Everything they do is good
- 8:28defense, good base running. They're going to hit, they're
- 8:32going to hit behind runners. They're going to move guys over.
- 8:34They're going to take extra 90s just how they do it.
- 8:38It's fun to watch, honestly it's refreshing.
- 8:41It's super refreshing. This is a better match up as
- 8:44thing. I I think as the games are going
- 8:46it's a more enjoyable match up than I think we thought coming
- 8:50in. At least I did, yeah.
- 8:52I think a lot of people have to apologize to these two teams,
- 8:57including ourselves. I mean, granted, the Siri, we're
- 8:59only two games in, so we've yet to see how the rest of it plays
- 9:02out. But at least out of the gate, I
- 9:07think it proved to be far more entertaining of a match up than
- 9:11I think people were giving it credit for.
- 9:16I think both teams, like I said, they're both playing their brand
- 9:19of baseball. The Rangers were just, I mean
- 9:21the Rangers will more like more often than not out Homer you and
- 9:26the D backs are going to out small ball you and that's what
- 9:30they did. Like you said they don't the D
- 9:32backs don't beat themselves. They they ultimately ultimately
- 9:34lost to Corey Seeger and Adoles Garcia.
- 9:36So it's like that's not beating yourself.
- 9:39That's just getting beat by very, very good hitters.
- 9:44Yeah. Absolutely.
- 9:48Yeah. I I felt a little I felt a
- 9:50little guilty that I was I was giving him a hard time and and I
- 9:56I look if you're listening to our our LCS slash World Series
- 10:02preview, I think you could if you've been listening to this
- 10:06podcast for any length of time you could probably sense that we
- 10:09weren't exactly the most thrilled about this World
- 10:11Series, that it's just been a tough postseason.
- 10:14Unless you've been a a fan of of these teams and even the teams
- 10:18that are getting bounced, it's hard to be excited once once
- 10:20your team gets bounced. So it's like you you get to the
- 10:26world's like you, you see teams like the Braves and the OS
- 10:30getting getting bounced and then you get to the World Series and
- 10:32you're left with these two and you're like what can we really
- 10:35expect? But to some people's credit they
- 10:38were like, you know it's refreshing.
- 10:39We have some some unique styles of baseball here.
- 10:42You got a team that just mashes and you got a team that knows
- 10:45how to play small ball take the extra 90, so on and so forth.
- 10:49So we'll see how it plays out in game one.
- 10:51I think perfectly encapsulated what what it was that they were
- 10:54talking about so. 100% I do think.
- 10:57I mean, we need to talk about I Is it just me or is gallon not
- 11:01gallon right now? There's been a couple starts in
- 11:04this postseason where it's like I'm not seeing a stuff.
- 11:10Yeah, and look, that's that's top.
- 11:14Gallon's putting himself in a tough spot because I'm sure.
- 11:17Did we talk? Was it it was the last episode
- 11:21we mentioned. Had it happened by that point
- 11:23where he was, he was throwing shade on Twitter to the Phillies
- 11:27fans talking about go get your tickets for spring training.
- 11:30And he's been saying some other things and like Seawall 2, he,
- 11:37he put out that tweet where he was talking about like, it's
- 11:39receipt season and he's taking screenshots of people.
- 11:42And I'm like, this seems to me like something you would say
- 11:46once you've already secured the trophy.
- 11:48Like let's not get it. I get it.
- 11:50You're is the D backs coming off that series against the
- 11:53Phillies. You're feeling yourself a little
- 11:55bit. I understand that.
- 11:56But also like the at that point the series hadn't even started
- 12:02yet and now it it's tied up one one.
- 12:04So like, let's let's hold off on on talking noise just just for a
- 12:10little bit. I just don't think he's been
- 12:14what we're used to and like, I think.
- 12:16You can see in my mind like, look, you throw 210 innings in
- 12:23the regular season, we've now gotten to, let's see, 11162126
- 12:39in the third innings in the postseason.
- 12:41It's probably just fatigue. That could be just this a long
- 12:45this is by far the longest or the most innings he's thrown in
- 12:48a career. So it's just it's not like
- 12:51dominant stuff, you know, like we go back to the first game,
- 12:56Milwaukee 6 innings, 2 earned runs, three walks, 4 KS.
- 13:05Like it's just it's not that's not bad.
- 13:08Next game against the Dodgers, 5 and a third two earned runs.
- 13:12Then five innings with five earned runs, six innings, 4
- 13:18earned runs. And then Friday's game, 5
- 13:21innings, 3 earned runs, five strikeouts, four walks.
- 13:25I mean, it's it's not like it's it's not bad.
- 13:27It's just you're used to seeing a little bit more of a stuff,
- 13:32yeah. And I think, I think that's
- 13:34where some of the confusion is coming into play surrounding the
- 13:37Diamondbacks, where up until game two, where Meryl Kelly and
- 13:41we'll get into it. Up until game two, where he he
- 13:46showed up. Zach Gallon and Merrill Kelly
- 13:48had not necessarily been the headlining names for this team
- 13:53in this season like that. They've given you sufficiency
- 13:58but not exactly dominance up. And like I said, up until game
- 14:02two, which speaks again to their brain of baseball.
- 14:07They figure out other ways to win when they don't have it on
- 14:10the mound. They're going to figure out ways
- 14:12to scrape across, scrape runs across the plate, and they've
- 14:16been able to do that thus far. Whether or not it's sustainable
- 14:19through the end of this thing, we've yet to see.
- 14:22But it's it's worked for them up to this point, so credit to them
- 14:28for that. Keep doing, you going, going
- 14:33back to this game. One thing I I don't know if you
- 14:38would agree with me or many other people would agree with
- 14:43me, but in watching that game, one of the more you've got your
- 14:48obvious pivotal moments. You got the Corey Seeger home
- 14:52run, but for me the more not saying more pivotal than Corey
- 15:02Seeger's home run. But one of the more pivotal
- 15:04moments for me was in the top of the fifth.
- 15:06You had Dane Dunning on the mound and you had two on.
- 15:11Yeah, like Big Chopper, The Big Chop to low and then he or Lau
- 15:18Lau, Lau Lau, Big Chopper. I don't think people realize how
- 15:24difficult that play is, or that throw is rather that mean the
- 15:27Fielding's one thing, but making that throw?
- 15:29Hitting a moving target? With a rather Bang Bang play at
- 15:33first like that, that could have been the game.
- 15:37Like if you don't, because you strand too.
- 15:39If you don't keep that game at 2 or that deficit at two, things
- 15:43could unravel very quickly. That's a strong PFP that, Yeah,
- 15:48like you, you work on that as a pitcher.
- 15:52That's not just like, oh, we just happened to successfully
- 15:56execute that play. Like, no, you've you've worked
- 15:59on on these kinds of things before and I'm glad to see it.
- 16:02It panned out for him. But yeah like I said that was
- 16:05that was a crucial moment in game one and and if you don't
- 16:09keep that at two and the rest of the game plays out the way it
- 16:13does and Corey Seeger steps up to the plate with one on but
- 16:16you're down four-game doesn't end the same way but to keep it
- 16:20at 2. Honestly in a postseason game
- 16:23and the number may be different to to you, but for me, I I feel
- 16:32like anything is is possible in the in the 9th inning.
- 16:36If you're within 2/3 is like a little dicey.
- 16:39But if you're you always hear like a bloop and a blast, like
- 16:42if you can just get somebody on and we talked about the added
- 16:45importance of 90 feet in the postseason.
- 16:48It just changes the. Whole dynamic, the most
- 16:52important exactly. So if you can just get and we
- 16:55saw the way it happened with Seger, but if you can just get a
- 16:58guy on. Well, I think that's, I think
- 17:01that's where the credit has to go to too.
- 17:03I think what was that was Leo De Taveras that that walk to get
- 17:08on, right? Yeah, but also Simeon out.
- 17:14Seeger, Speaking of Taveras, did you see that route that he took
- 17:19to the ball? On I think it's that little
- 17:23slice and dicer. What was that?
- 17:25Not good, Not good. So I'm glad to see he at least.
- 17:29He get out for it. He didn't fold there in the
- 17:31night, so. He made-up for it because like
- 17:33that's, I don't know, like as as a pitcher, like you can't, that
- 17:38can't happen. You can't walk nine guy.
- 17:40You can't walk nine guy to face Simeon Seeger like that.
- 17:44Just you can't give those to an opportunity with somebody on
- 17:47just you're not going to, it's not going to work.
- 17:49And it didn't. Also, the load.
- 17:53I don't know from my from my hitting nerds out there, it
- 17:56seemed like Seeger. He's a little toe tap guy.
- 18:00And that toe tap that he put on Seawald was like the earliest
- 18:05load up. I'm sitting dead.
- 18:08Red toe tap. And he got what he He got what
- 18:11he wanted. Launched it, knew it right away.
- 18:14On it, dude. He knew it.
- 18:16He absolutely knew it. Freaking professional hitter
- 18:20right there. That call from Joe Davis too.
- 18:23Yeah, yeah, Joe Davis is. He's stepped into that is a
- 18:29professional call. He stepped into big time.
- 18:33He's he's he's up there now also, I know it's been a minute
- 18:37since we've done our our buy, sell segment, but if I was to
- 18:42buy something, if I was to buy something this episode it would
- 18:47be, I don't know if you've seen them lately, but it's the calls
- 18:51where they remove the broadcast and it's they just let the crowd
- 18:56noise play out. Those are great.
- 18:59Love that dude. And they.
- 19:00I saw the one for Seeger's home run.
- 19:02That place came unglued. And to see to see a guy that's
- 19:09rather stoic kind of show to show that emotion.
- 19:15Yeah. And he's he's done it before and
- 19:17he did it in that very ballpark back in 2020.
- 19:21He he loves to. He loves to get into it a little
- 19:24bit when the moment calls for it and that.
- 19:26You love to see that. I do.
- 19:28You love to see that. Pretty wild.
- 19:30I mean I'd be on Cloud 9 if I just hit a Ding Dong like that
- 19:34and then in the post game coverage Derek Jeter is saying
- 19:39that I'm his favorite player moving forward.
- 19:41Like if I'm Corey Zeger I'm I'm sitting I'm sitting real well is
- 19:49in is in a good spot. Big confidence boost right
- 19:52there. That's what's up.
- 19:57Like I said, that's a man you you just hated to see a game
- 20:01like that end for either team. Like that was just a a well
- 20:05played baseball game. I think.
- 20:07I mean I already mentioned it but with the D backs playing
- 20:11their, their brand of ball, I think they finish with four
- 20:16stolen bases. I believe it was 4.
- 20:21Yeah, four. And then again, just going back
- 20:25to the walk off like who else at that point?
- 20:30Who else did you think it was going to be?
- 20:32And the craziest part of that AB to me at least, was the bat off
- 20:38the ball, the swing that he took there.
- 20:41It did not seem it. Looked like that was going to
- 20:46slice foul like before the camera angle switched.
- 20:49I was like. I was maybe poking down the line
- 20:52a little bit. It didn't, yeah.
- 20:54I thought if anything it was maybe like a a slicer that that
- 21:01would have had to have been tracked a little bit, maybe come
- 21:03in on a little bit, but that it was nowhere even remotely close
- 21:07to the the warning track, much less.
- 21:10You weren't counting into the biceps, dude.
- 21:12I I think it went like three, 375 or 376 or something.
- 21:18I'm like that that no. Didn't have that swing on it.
- 21:20I agree there, sure they didn't. Definitely.
- 21:23Do we do. We need to get this man tested
- 21:24for real. Maybe.
- 21:26Possibly. Do you think he's already been
- 21:28tested? Oh yeah, for sure.
- 21:35On the other side, first, kind of first kind of hiccup from the
- 21:44game. Nate.
- 21:46That didn't didn't look like him.
- 21:50Didn't have, didn't have his stuff.
- 21:53He had. He had eight KS though.
- 21:55Yeah, which I believe I read was the most from a Ranger in a
- 21:59World Series game. Yeah, possibly.
- 22:02Possibly post season. No, I think it was World Series
- 22:03game. It's just barrels, dude.
- 22:05It's just barrels. Like not trying to lift the
- 22:08ball, Just smoking line drives all over the place.
- 22:11Hard ground balls. It's fun to watch.
- 22:15I got to give the Diamondbacks credit for that.
- 22:16Like if you're a baseball fan and you miss what old school
- 22:19baseball look like, it's them. Which honestly makes what Ivaldi
- 22:26did even more impressive to get 8K's against a lineup like that.
- 22:29It's not as when you miss lineup.
- 22:31Yeah, I mean, unless we're talking Christian Walker.
- 22:36Yikes. Tough.
- 22:39I feel for that guy, man. You can.
- 22:40Tell the body language is at an all time low for that guy.
- 22:44Haters out here, a lot of people fed up.
- 22:48I mean, I get it, dude. He.
- 22:50It's understandable. It's it's not like AI mean I
- 22:54can't. I'm not going to speak for
- 22:55Diamondbacks fans out there but like for me, if I'm looking at
- 22:59that I'm going it's nothing personal but we got to we got to
- 23:03slide you out of here because you're you are very
- 23:06transparently frustrated with yourself.
- 23:09Understandably so but like we don't have time to to have the
- 23:14mope show here like in this in this dugout and walk him back to
- 23:18the dugout. We we just can't have it.
- 23:20He's played lights out defense though.
- 23:22I mean, he's a gold blower at first.
- 23:24I know he has. The value is still there and
- 23:27he's made some excellent plays even just in these first two
- 23:31games. For sure.
- 23:34Absolutely run saving plays which like you said has its own
- 23:41value even like to the guys around that infield it it it
- 23:45makes them better knowing that they have a vacuum cleaner over
- 23:48there, over there at first. So I get it like I understand
- 23:52the trade off, but man that's tough to watch and I think he, I
- 23:57think he got a knock last night, right.
- 23:58I think he squared one up in the left.
- 24:01Center. Yeah, I think he did.
- 24:03Yeah, he got on. So who knows, maybe that it,
- 24:07like we always say it only takes 1, so we'll see how it how it
- 24:09works out for him. But then Game 2?
- 24:20What that was, that was breezing by dude.
- 24:23I blinked and it was in the 6th inning.
- 24:25OK, yeah, so we it was sub three hours, it was two, I want to say
- 24:32like 257. So it was like right around the
- 24:34three hour mark the game game one the night before was like 4
- 24:39hours and 2 minutes, which I also think is interesting that
- 24:43nobody bats an eye at that. Right.
- 24:46It's like, oh, this was the greatest game we've seen this
- 24:49postseason. Nobody thought twice about how
- 24:51long it was going. Yeah, nobody thought twice about
- 24:55it. So that was that was interesting
- 24:56to see. And I'm also glad whoever made
- 24:59the final decision to eliminate the extra Indian space runner
- 25:04rule for the postseason. Thank you.
- 25:05Genius. Yeah, like that.
- 25:08Just think of how differently we'd be viewing the result of
- 25:12that game, regardless which way it went, if it would have ended
- 25:15via the extra Indian Space Runner rule.
- 25:18I do. Sorry that it's not the same.
- 25:20Never will be. Yeah, part of me forgot a little
- 25:25bit, 'cause we'd only seen that one extra ending game.
- 25:30No, this, that was the first one.
- 25:33Oh, that was a that was a 9th inning walk off, huh?
- 25:35Yeah, Arizona's morning as the Phillies.
- 25:38Was he going to say like nothing, Just nothing coming
- 25:41that way? That's cool.
- 25:42That's fine with me. Free baseball never hurts.
- 25:46Always on board. But yeah, game two to your, to
- 25:50your point, just felt like it flew by.
- 25:52I mean, look, the you talked about Meryl Kelly, like coming
- 25:57on at the scene, Dude was absolutely commanding.
- 26:03Like doing whatever you want, whatever he wanted.
- 26:07I hadn't paid attention before, so I don't know.
- 26:11I don't know if this was his first time calling his own
- 26:13pitches, but he had a little pitch calm on his belt and Bro
- 26:18was just doing whatever he wanted.
- 26:20And it was like, it's it's that I and I'll give Smoltz credit
- 26:28because Smoltz knows how to talk when it's about pitching.
- 26:31And I'll give him that. Everything else about the game,
- 26:33it's kind of annoying. It's super like surface level,
- 26:38cliche type things you say. But when he talks pitching, he
- 26:41says the right thing. And he said, like Miro Kelly
- 26:43will treat that bottom line of the strike zone as if like a
- 26:46cross bar in like a field goal, right.
- 26:50And so he works and you could just see the whole game.
- 26:52It was fastball that would sit bottom line or it'd be a sinker
- 26:56that started at that and go right below.
- 26:58It was a change up that would go right below.
- 27:00A cutter that would dive the other way.
- 27:02He had everything working, everything working.
- 27:06I was impressed. Do you know how many three ball
- 27:08counts he went to? Maybe one.
- 27:13Yeah, I don't know. One that's crazy 1/3 ball count.
- 27:19It's pretty, pretty dangerous. And that's if if you think about
- 27:22it. I mean, we we've talked about it
- 27:24plenty and everybody knows it at this point, but that Rangers
- 27:28offense is nothing to turn your nose up.
- 27:30At no for real and to be able to go after those guys that
- 27:35efficiently and that effectively to.
- 27:39I mean, the same way you look at what Ivaldi did strikeout wise
- 27:44against the D backs in game one is it's equally if not more
- 27:47impressive what Mero Kelly did reigning in that offense,
- 27:53especially after a a morale boosting game.
- 27:57One that it's true. Man, it's just off to hats.
- 28:00Off. No one really caught a clean
- 28:01barrel off of them. It was a lot of it was a lot of
- 28:04weak contact, a lot of swing and Miss World Series MVP pick right
- 28:11here. My guy Mitch Garver, that was
- 28:14just caught a barrel. Wild, because that ball was 4
- 28:18inches down and in. No idea how we got that.
- 28:22No idea how he lifted that. I'm beating that into my ankle.
- 28:269 times out of 10. I think they said it was.
- 28:32I may be way off here, but I thought I saw that it was like
- 28:3713 inches or something. It wasn't close, they said.
- 28:41It was the lowest home run of his career.
- 28:43He's a nasty breaker. I have no idea how he lifted
- 28:46that insane. And at that point, you know,
- 28:49like, it's Miro Kelly. Just tip the cap and and move
- 28:52on. Which clearly he did.
- 28:54But yeah, I mean, it was like when you have a, when you have a
- 28:58sinker in a fastball, when you're slotting on the same,
- 29:03like you're slotting in the same spot on the night and you got
- 29:07guys that are trying to lay off of a sinker down.
- 29:11And you? I don't know how many I saw.
- 29:13I saw like 3 or 4, just fastball looking strikeouts that were at
- 29:17the bottom of the zone, 'cause you think sinker down, I got to
- 29:20leave it down. It was impressive.
- 29:23I like mad respect. I had to.
- 29:26I got to own up to that because I've been, I've been giving him
- 29:28a hard time pretty much all year.
- 29:31But I mean Roland, he rolling shit from Shits Creek.
- 29:37He managed to to look pretty well on the other side.
- 29:42I'd be a little nervous if I'm if I'm the Rangers just because
- 29:45of like it's kind of seems like the pitching staff is is getting
- 29:49a little fatigued. Overall, Jordan Montgomery, of
- 29:55course. When I had a little three leg
- 29:59parlay going and I took the over 4 1/2 strikeouts for Jordan
- 30:09Montgomery, bro. Didn't even have 4 1/2 swinging
- 30:12misses. Miserable.
- 30:15Super efficient with the. Super efficient with the pitch
- 30:19count. Like I'll give him credit for
- 30:21that, but just no swinging misses.
- 30:23I think he maybe had one or two. It was crazy.
- 30:26The line was 4 1/2. 4 1/2 strikeouts and I took the over.
- 30:30I don't know if I'd be taking that against the D backs.
- 30:33We just got done talking. About I know, I know.
- 30:35But I saw Jordan Montgomery last time out, and it it it looked
- 30:39good, yeah, but it wasn't against the Diamondbacks.
- 30:42I know, I understand. I I I don't like betting teams.
- 30:48In the World Series just because you never know like I don't.
- 30:51I don't like. So I took the over which hit?
- 30:55I took the Jordan Montgomery. That was the only part that
- 30:57didn't hit. I had a Kitel Marte hit which
- 31:00was good. I think I had like a though Evan
- 31:07Carter hit nice. Good.
- 31:09So I had everything except the strikeouts, but yeah, just
- 31:14didn't look great and and like, I think that shows.
- 31:18How good Jordan Montgomery has been lately and how he's
- 31:23progressed because like, even then he didn't look that good.
- 31:26Most of the damage came afterwards, was mostly off of
- 31:29the bullpen from what I saw. So yeah, I mean, look, it's just
- 31:38he had to tip your cap. Meryl Kelly, man, commanded that
- 31:41game Tempo was working in rhythm.
- 31:49I like, I don't know. I'm going to have to look back.
- 31:51I kind of want to look back and maybe see like a game recap.
- 31:54From his last starts, I don't remember him calling his own
- 31:57pitches before. I don't know.
- 32:00Maybe he found something. Maybe this is?
- 32:04It's nasty. Maybe we'll see it one more time
- 32:07this series. Yeah, you got to think.
- 32:11You got to think if there's a game.
- 32:15OK. Game six or seven, he'd go 6.
- 32:18I would. I would.
- 32:19He would either no 'cause Sunday travel, so that's one game 345
- 32:27travel day, so he could go, he could go game five on short
- 32:31rest, or he could go 6 on maybe an extra.
- 32:35Day or so, yeah, unless they're in like a clinch position.
- 32:41Should be wild, yeah. Maybe see a.
- 32:45Imagine the same game, Gallon Kelly.
- 32:48But anyway, I'm just. I was impressed offensively.
- 32:52Yeah, dude, it's just, you know, everybody's for the Diamondbacks
- 32:56are rolling right now. Already mentioned it.
- 32:59Caselle Marte having himself a postseason, extends his
- 33:05postseason hitting streak to 18, a record 18 games, which snapped
- 33:12a tie for the longest hitting postseason hitting streak with
- 33:16the aforementioned Derek Jeter, Manny Ramirez and Hank Bauer.
- 33:22He's a He has a post. He has a hit in every postseason
- 33:25game he's played. You see the quote.
- 33:28Let's see if I can find it real quick.
- 33:32Was it just the one where he said he's not?
- 33:34He doesn't think about that. Yeah, he's not even thinking
- 33:36about it, dude. Just once done, which I don't
- 33:37believe. Come on.
- 33:39Can we stop with the I'm I'm not.
- 33:42It's not even on my radar. I'm only worried, he said.
- 33:45I'm worried about my my only if, he would have said.
- 33:48Here's the thing if he would have said, because this was the
- 33:52second part of the quote, he said.
- 33:53I'm not worried. I'm just worried about winning
- 33:55and getting on base. If he would have said just left
- 33:58it at the getting on base thing, I'm like OK, I like that a nice
- 34:01bat to ball guy we're talking about here and I believe that.
- 34:05But the whole, like, I'm just here to help my team win.
- 34:08Like, come on dude, that line is tired.
- 34:10I hear you typically if it wasn't this kind of guy, he's a,
- 34:18he's I he's AI got to impact the game somehow, someway kind of
- 34:22guy. You could just tell like he's
- 34:25whether it's defensively on the bases, like speed is a factor,
- 34:29like he's just like, I just let me.
- 34:32Impact the game in a positive way, somehow, some way.
- 34:34So I'm I'm kind of there. I kind of buy it.
- 34:38No, don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Marte.
- 34:41I I I'm a fan of. His I know.
- 34:43I know not to any like extremely.
- 34:45Tired of a quote? Yeah, just it's more just the
- 34:48quote. It's all.
- 34:49Yeah, and I get it. It's a easy throw down.
- 34:52But I I respect the part more where he's at.
- 34:54I just, I I'm worried about getting on base also.
- 34:57You gotta. Remember, you gotta remember
- 34:59these dudes that, like they're learning English as their second
- 35:02language, like they're practicing post game interviews,
- 35:05and like it's probably a little script that they just they've
- 35:08gone through in their head a million times.
- 35:10That's true. So that would be what I would
- 35:12imagine. But either way, you're so right.
- 35:15Freaking fun to watch dude. And the purple sleeve is so
- 35:21sick. That's just him.
- 35:25That's just a silent outcry to get the D backs to do what
- 35:30everybody in the baseball world wants them to do, and that's to
- 35:36wear purple A. 100% And with Longo rocking the the teal
- 35:43cleats, like, you could just tell they're like they're
- 35:45needing it, they're itching for it and it it can happen too.
- 35:50Because I saw, I don't even remember how it ended up on this
- 35:55tweet, but I did some sort of search, some Google search and
- 35:58then it led me to this tweet from this reporter from back in.
- 36:05It was either like 20 I guess. Yeah, I guess it would have been
- 36:082021 or something. And he was like, just checked
- 36:11with MLB. The Red Sox can wear the city
- 36:16connects in the postseason if they so choose.
- 36:18Or it was something to that effect.
- 36:20So I'm like, OK, well if the rule, unless they've changed it
- 36:23since then, they can wear, I would imagine City connects
- 36:27throwbacks, whatever it is. Don't show me that one.
- 36:29I don't need to see that. I would love to see a black
- 36:34jersey at home and then I would also like to see.
- 36:42The vest, I I I'm going to assume it's the starting
- 36:46pitcher's decision. I would guess whoever's
- 36:50comfortable enough to throw in a vest.
- 36:53So you know, those guys are weird.
- 36:55I think I saw some D backs fan post something about.
- 36:59That's like Gallon's favorite jersey is the.
- 37:03Throwback Well, that's not going to matter because we're going to
- 37:05see him here. In fact, that's what I'm saying.
- 37:06So it's like if if it. Was up to the pitcher.
- 37:09Yeah, Fox, he's just going to have.
- 37:10To he Fat needs to take one for the team.
- 37:12Just, I mean, he's already a vibe.
- 37:14Like can we just let's just add to the list of fat seems like a
- 37:21fat seems like a black jersey guy I.
- 37:24Wouldn't hate it. In fact, they may have.
- 37:27Let's see, they may have already announced the D backs do a great
- 37:31job of announcing the jerseys. Let fans know ahead of time.
- 37:39Now they have, they don't have it out yet, so probably,
- 37:42probably do it tomorrow morning. But yeah, please, just for all
- 37:49that's good, give us the purple and teal.
- 37:53Just one game. Just one.
- 37:56Just one. Did.
- 37:59How about that? We didn't even, we didn't even
- 38:02reference it. The Speaking of the purple and
- 38:07teal, going back to that 2001 team, did you see that post I
- 38:15put out about that, that tweet from that Chris guy talking,
- 38:21drawing the comparison or the parallels to the O One team?
- 38:25The bird thing. Yeah dude, so, so Chris
- 38:28Middleton on on Twitter on X says So.
- 38:32You mean to tell me, and this is ahead of Game One, but he's
- 38:36going back to it anyway, he says.
- 38:37So you mean to tell me Our ace hit a bird in 2001 and our ace
- 38:40hit a bird in 2023? All the dates of the World
- 38:43Series games in 2001 are the same as the dates in 2023.
- 38:48The All Star Game was in Seattle in 2001 and 2023, and George
- 38:54Bush threw the first pitch in 2001 and 2023.
- 38:59There's a lot going on there. I mean, if the D backs are going
- 39:07to do it, they've got, they've got history on their side.
- 39:13That's all I'll say. It's hard for me to see it, but
- 39:17sure. Well, let me ask you this.
- 39:18Do you think now that we've got two games in the books, we've
- 39:24got a Rangers win, we've got AD backs win, we've got a Rangers
- 39:30doing what they do in game one and also the D backs doing what
- 39:38they do in game one? And then you got the D backs
- 39:40taking the winning Game 2 with. What we've seen so far?
- 39:45Do you see any other scenario? Other than this going 7.
- 39:54Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I think I could definitely see.
- 40:04It's just tough, dude, because like this Rangers offense, like
- 40:07you can see that it could go quiet, you know what I mean?
- 40:10Like they could get pretty quiet and it could carry over a little
- 40:14bit. It's such a it's such a Pekin
- 40:19Valley type offense. So maybe Diamondbacks come out
- 40:26and and snag the first game back here in Chase.
- 40:33I don't know. I don't know if I can imagine.
- 40:38I don't know if I can imagine the Diamondbacks winning two of
- 40:42three. I don't know what it is.
- 40:47But this is the same D backs team that took six and seven at
- 40:51the bank. I agree.
- 40:53Like we can't lose sight of that for sure.
- 40:57We're not even AI mean. We're not even a week removed.
- 41:04From that, I was talking about a Rangers team that's only lost
- 41:07three games. Yeah, but like, that game too,
- 41:12is not exactly pretty. It was not.
- 41:16And that could have a little bit of, I mean they're I I think
- 41:18they got, I think they're blessed with a travel day hit
- 41:21the reset button a little bit but like like you said, that
- 41:24could have a little bit of a carryover effect.
- 41:28How lame is it that both games are inside?
- 41:33I mean I've I've have I not said this before it like for the
- 41:36postseason I if you have a heart, I think it's one thing if
- 41:43you're there and you're like inside this loud environment
- 41:46it's better. But on TVI want to see frigid
- 41:49people. I want to see people with you're
- 41:51not going to see. Frigid people in either
- 41:53location, I understand. I'm just saying like sometimes
- 41:57it can get a little. Chilly.
- 41:59What is 78 degrees here right now?
- 42:01So. But in what's what's it like in
- 42:03Dallas right now? Probably the same.
- 42:06I hear what you're saying. Oh shoot, it's a little little
- 42:10chilly. 40 It's 45. Look at that.
- 42:13See. OK, yeah, but that's far from
- 42:16frigid. I don't know.
- 42:18Playing baseball and 45 isn't warm.
- 42:20It's. But I'm saying I want to see
- 42:21fans all bundled up. I like that.
- 42:24It's going to be. High 70s a week from today.
- 42:28So I I don't think it's exactly going to be getting frigid.
- 42:36What was I saying? What were we just talking about?
- 42:41Indoors. Outdoors.
- 42:43Yeah, like if you have a park that has a retractable roof.
- 42:51You're going to have to have that thing closed for the
- 42:53postseason. I got to assume it's going to be
- 42:55open one of these nights. It's freaking gorgeous here.
- 43:01It's perfect right now. Yeah, but it's easier.
- 43:05It's I think, I mean let's be honest I don't know how much of
- 43:10A an impact of the marketing of a closed roof has, but like when
- 43:15I see. As a as an impartial party here
- 43:19when I see the tweet come out from the D backs we're in it for
- 43:22any any retractable roof team. For that matter when I see the
- 43:27post come out that says the roof is closed make it loud or or
- 43:32something to that effect. I'm like all right, I can buy
- 43:35that and I would be if I was a fan going to the game I'd be
- 43:38like all right time to bring a little bit of the juice.
- 43:43So I'm I I. Look, I've made it clear.
- 43:47I don't. I don't believe in in
- 43:48retractable roofs. I think they should be outlawed
- 43:51as the same with artificial turf.
- 43:55But if it's there, if you got it, close that baby up.
- 43:59Let's get the decibels up. So you don't think there should
- 44:02be any roof? Or you should think there
- 44:04shouldn't be retractable roofs like Are you OK with domes or
- 44:09the roof just stays forever? Sorry, I should have clarified.
- 44:14I I meant you don't like roofs at all.
- 44:18Yeah, but at the same time, oh, here's OK, here's a dream
- 44:24scenario. And I'm sorry, I'm just kind of,
- 44:26I'm working this out on the fly here, I can tell.
- 44:28I haven't really. I haven't really put much
- 44:30thought on this, but this is good.
- 44:32This is good. I think the dream scenario would
- 44:37be to have a retractable roof that's used minimally.
- 44:44But also is over natural grass OK?
- 44:50And I know the science behind that problem doesn't make sense,
- 44:54right? Is it?
- 44:58I think so. I think you're right, yeah.
- 45:01Because I've seen, I've seen grass stains, yeah, before,
- 45:05Yeah. I think it's possible that.
- 45:09And I say the the roof used minimally because I just like
- 45:18Seattle. I don't know.
- 45:22Going back to this dream scenario, only use it to ward
- 45:26off rain. Don't be like, oh, it's like
- 45:28it's like a little chilly out. Let's close it up.
- 45:30No, like, only used to keep games from being cancelled.
- 45:35Because I don't. As much as I hate domes and
- 45:38roofs, I'd rather see baseball played.
- 45:40And if that means closing it up for a night, whatever.
- 45:45But keep it open 99% of the time and give me natural grass and
- 45:48I'll be fine. Fair enough.
- 45:50I feel like that's a more than fair compromise.
- 45:54How do you feel about us getting into November here soon?
- 45:59It still bugs me that we're playing the World Series in
- 46:01November. Yeah, I agree.
- 46:03And I'll be honest, I'm quickly approaching.
- 46:07Like I I think we've done this podcast long enough now to have
- 46:11like a a rhythm and like a feel for where we're at in the year.
- 46:16And I feel like I'm very quickly approaching the time where I'm
- 46:19like OK, right. We need to we need to step away
- 46:22from the mic for a little bit. We're getting to that like
- 46:24Burnout Point where it's like OK, we we need to get, we need
- 46:27to make it through the through the end of the World Series and
- 46:30then we'll we'll reconvene. But I heard this.
- 46:36I heard this. It was I don't know like a
- 46:39TikTok on on like some radio show.
- 46:41I couldn't even begin to give it credit for who or where it was
- 46:46about. There was still people
- 46:48complaining about like the first round by for the division
- 46:52winners and stuff like that and how the week off is you know not
- 46:56an advantage at all. The idea was that they wanted to
- 47:01go back to A1 game wild card. I'm not for that.
- 47:05I like the three-game wild card. I'm totally OK with the way that
- 47:09is. The better part of his idea was
- 47:13the Division Series 5 game set. Still keep it all in one city,
- 47:20keep it in that division winner city.
- 47:23No travel days just and don't have a travel day for that wild
- 47:29card winner either. Go play the next day, no off
- 47:33day. Even if it's a three-game you
- 47:35take all three. You got to go there and play in
- 47:38that next city the next day And that to me would be a true
- 47:42advantage that would feel like it that like that week off would
- 47:46then kind of be balanced back to that division winner having the
- 47:52advantage all in the city all five if you need them all at
- 47:56home. And I get that that's like, all
- 47:58right, it doesn't spread the love amongst cities and fan
- 48:02races, whatever. This would, I think, balance the
- 48:05scale a little bit. Like, imagine the Diamondbacks
- 48:08having to go to Milwaukee, win all three in Milwaukee, or two
- 48:15or three in Milwaukee, and then have to go to LA and see the
- 48:18whole series in LA. Little bit of a different
- 48:24scenario. I like it.
- 48:27And I think I brought, I think I brought this up after the first
- 48:30round kind of wrapped up and we were talking about all the
- 48:32people complaining about the structure and I but I can't
- 48:35remember where you stood. Well, I mean you kind of
- 48:38clarified just now, but between having a A3 game Wild card
- 48:44series and a A5 game Division series, would you still prefer
- 48:52that over going back to the one game?
- 48:56But having a best of seven for the DSI wouldn't hate 7.
- 48:59To be honest, I wouldn't hate it.
- 49:02And to be fair, I have been to A1 game Wild Card.
- 49:07I've been to two. They're electric, they're
- 49:11electric because it's like it's all or nothing.
- 49:15It's here tonight and the crowd is all about it.
- 49:19There's no leaving early. There's none of that.
- 49:21Like it is like sell out, leave everything we have on this
- 49:27field. I can't argue against the live
- 49:29thing but again like it is weird to have your entire season do
- 49:35that. Maybe maybe there's some type of
- 49:38balance. Like maybe there's some type of
- 49:40balance where like the instead of the the lowest division
- 49:47winner. So like let's just grab the
- 49:50American League for this example.
- 49:52So we had O's. Bye, we had Astros by right, so
- 50:02let's grab the twins. We'll say instead of them
- 50:06playing the third seed wild card, let them play the first
- 50:12seed Wild card and make that like a three-game set.
- 50:24And then the bottom two teams is just a one gamer.
- 50:27The bottom two wild cards as the worst division winning team.
- 50:30You get the top, the worst division winning team.
- 50:33You play a three-game wild card set the two bottom wild card
- 50:37guys, that's just a one and done.
- 50:39Yeah, because I I think, I mean, that'd be neat.
- 50:43You get a little best of both worlds there.
- 50:45Yeah, yeah. But I I think the intention or
- 50:49I'm just speculating at this point, but I I think.
- 50:53I'm guessing Major League Baseball's intention for the
- 50:55Wild Card was to treat it like a play in game.
- 50:58So, like, get if that's what you wanted it to be, stay with the
- 51:02One Gamer. Get back to that and like, yeah,
- 51:05I mean, I've said it before, I don't, I don't imagine the fact
- 51:08that a once like you have, you have your camps for both because
- 51:11like they're in my mind. Like there isn't that much of A
- 51:14of an advantage between the first wild card spot and the
- 51:19last wild card spot. Yeah, that should be a bigger
- 51:22advantage. Yeah, like, hey, you won the top
- 51:25wild card spot. You didn't win your division,
- 51:26but you won the top wild card spot.
- 51:29I think you deserve a three-game set, whereas the bottom two
- 51:32guys, just a one and done the best of both worlds.
- 51:37I'm here for that. But I mean, if you eliminate, if
- 51:41you keep the Division Series in house and don't let it travel to
- 51:43the other city, I understand like how much you're removing
- 51:49from like season tickets and stuff.
- 51:50But you can take a a good four or five days away from travel
- 51:55crap and off days and we're getting this thing done in
- 51:59October versus creeping into the first week of November.
- 52:04Speaking of getting it done in October, we have yet to mention
- 52:07what Tommy Pham has been doing. Respect, dude.
- 52:14I mean, I was thinking about it today.
- 52:17I'm like yet another situation. Yet another individual where I
- 52:22feel like I'm slowly starting to come around on.
- 52:25I'm like at least with Tommy Pham you kind of know what
- 52:29you're getting. Like you're going to get an
- 52:30outspoken like possibly rather arrogant at times kind of guy.
- 52:38But he is very clear about that and he'll let you know.
- 52:41And I'll be honest when I saw the the nugget about.
- 52:46Him going four for four in game two, having a chance to become
- 52:49the first ever 5 for five guy in a World Series game.
- 52:55I'm like, Tori, what are we doing?
- 52:58Guy? What are we doing?
- 53:00I think everyone's awareness. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:03And then you, you you hear on that?
- 53:07You you see that comment that he made on that Instagram post with
- 53:11that nugget I think was included about the becoming the first
- 53:15possible five or five. And he was like, no, dude, I
- 53:18just wanted to give my guy, Jace Peterson, his first World Series
- 53:22AB like stop, stop with his narrative and I'm like he's the
- 53:26one that went to Tori. He went to Tori and said let's
- 53:28get Jason. So I'm like, you got to respect
- 53:32that. I have nothing but respect for
- 53:34that move. And like, at this point,
- 53:36people's could be arguing like, oh, he's just, he's just making
- 53:39that like, what? What would he gain from making
- 53:42that up? Like, I I genuinely feel like
- 53:44that's more than likely the conversation that took place.
- 53:48And I got to respect him for that.
- 53:50But that dude's been getting it done.
- 53:51He had a he had a bop in game one, didn't he?
- 53:56Or was it? Yeah, it was game one, yeah.
- 54:02Tell you what, man, Yeah, he's doing stuff against righties
- 54:04now, which tells you he's locked in.
- 54:07Yeah, his cuz I read he's been like a like a only against
- 54:11lefties for like right the last few years.
- 54:14Now all of a sudden he's popping off dumb back pick on on second
- 54:21base yesterday. Yeah.
- 54:22Did you see, I mean, I won't repeat it, but did you see Mike
- 54:26Maddox's comment is you could very clearly make out, yeah, I
- 54:31agree. What are you doing?
- 54:33What are you doing anyway? And then I don't know if you saw
- 54:36but he Tommy Pham like there's a tweet that had the video of Mike
- 54:43Maddox's like, lip reading thing.
- 54:46And then I think he just put like the receipts emoji or
- 54:48something. So I'm like Rangers, be careful.
- 54:54Like, be careful. Don't don't lose this World
- 54:56Series because you woke up Tommy Pham.
- 54:59Of all people I know, Tommy Pham is definitely in in in the
- 55:04comments, though, that guy's. He's aware.
- 55:07I'll give him credit. He he doesn't bury his head in
- 55:09the sand after games like he he wants to know like what's being
- 55:12talked about and. Look, all joking aside, I
- 55:16respect an athlete, especially professional athlete at this
- 55:19point in time. Like with this, with society the
- 55:22way it is now and just the the volatile things that people can
- 55:26say with really no basis whatsoever and the fact that he
- 55:30doesn't shy away from that. He's like, no, like, I want to
- 55:33know what what's being talked about.
- 55:35Like I want to know what people are saying, and if I so choose,
- 55:38I'll gladly use whatever it is that they're saying out there
- 55:41to. Possibly serve as an advantage
- 55:45for me in the few in games to come, so credit to him for that.
- 55:51I did read that it was hit, which I had no idea, but this
- 55:55was his third four hit game in the postseason, this postseason
- 56:01or overall in career. His his career, which tied
- 56:06Albert Pujols for most in Major League history.
- 56:09I'm sorry, ALNL. History, whatever that means.
- 56:13Still don't know what that means.
- 56:15Yeah, but yeah, Tommy Pham, credit to him.
- 56:19D backs then. I think the names I I I think if
- 56:23if there's a take away from these first two games I think
- 56:26for the D backs it's that the names that you would hope would
- 56:31start. Yeah.
- 56:32I was going to say Corbin Carroll is like really starting
- 56:35a role now. I I yeah start since game seven
- 56:38is the Phillies. He's like, he's back catching
- 56:41him at a hot time. Yeah, I see what you're saying,
- 56:45Avalon Goria had that with that double down the line.
- 56:50RBI knock Yeah, he's got AI Think a couple hits already,
- 56:53Yeah. Which for his sake, if they do
- 56:57end up winning this thing, I hope that he he has something to
- 57:01show for it after the series is over.
- 57:03Like I want to see him have at least like.
- 57:06You know a handful of hits a few RB is here and there that he can
- 57:10look back and be like I at least can I mean he he's he's
- 57:13certainly contributed to this team's overall success this year
- 57:16and and helping them get here just with his leadership alone
- 57:20but specifically in the World Series especially with the way
- 57:23his his first one did back with back with Tampa.
- 57:25I think that was what O eight. I think he went one for 20.
- 57:33I believe in that World Series, so.
- 57:35For him, I think it's, I think I read it's 15 years later for
- 57:38him. If he can.
- 57:41Yeah, that would make sense. Oh wait, yeah, 15.
- 57:43So for him to be able to return to the World Series 15 years
- 57:46later and actually, you know, have himself a little bit of a
- 57:49series, I think would be huge. I'd love to see that.
- 57:53By the way, I'm going to call a a clutch Christian Walker home
- 57:59run. I'm just going to tell you right
- 58:01now, it's coming at some point. I don't.
- 58:06It's IA clutch 1A real clutch one.
- 58:11It's going to wipe away all the wrongdoing so far.
- 58:15Are you saying that because you believe in Christian Walker or
- 58:18you just getting tired of people rolling over on him?
- 58:20I like Christian Walker, so I don't know.
- 58:23Anything against Christian. I'm not ready to sell.
- 58:26I like him. People suddenly forgot he's, you
- 58:29know, a 30 and 100 guy and a big reason why you're here now.
- 58:33So I. I applaud your belief in him,
- 58:36but I'm telling it to you. The body language is it's cool.
- 58:39It's fine. Say what you will, it's coming.
- 58:43It's coming. Big clutch one.
- 58:47What about a guy like Marcus Simeon, man, he, I mean, he's,
- 58:50he's been, yeah, he's been a he's been a, you see?
- 58:56Anything you see anything big from him the next few games?
- 58:59I don't know that play up the middle that he played, that that
- 59:03the glove, that back end that was like up the middle shortstop
- 59:06side, Yeah, that he made, you know, that was impressive.
- 59:13Yeah, but I mean, there's guys like that throughout the league
- 59:16where regardless how they're feeling at the plate, you know
- 59:20you're going to get that consistency with the glove.
- 59:22And I think he's very easily one of those guys.
- 59:25Yeah, but like we're going to need, we're going to need a
- 59:30little something. From you little something.
- 59:33Marcus, come on, we're going to call you a top three second
- 59:35baseman. You're going to need to show up
- 59:37a little bit because Katel Martez is casting a large.
- 59:40Show though that's the thing. I mean the the regular season he
- 59:44had, what did he lead like? I think he led his team in war.
- 59:49He led the American League in some some form of hitting.
- 59:54I don't even remember what it was some statistical category
- 59:57he. I think he led the American
- 59:59League in so. It's not like he's had a down
- 1:00:02year and it it's not like it makes sense that he's he's
- 1:00:06having these struggles this late in the year but.
- 1:00:10See, I'm kind of on the opposite side.
- 1:00:14Gonna need a little something. I think he played well, but I'm
- 1:00:19not freaking out like everyone else. 29 home runs, hundred
- 1:00:25RBI's, 162 games played. Props showed up every day.
- 1:00:31270-6826 OPS. It's solid.
- 1:00:38Don't get me wrong, it's solid, but like, I'm not.
- 1:00:40I mean, there's a second baseman, yeah.
- 1:00:42I'll take that. It's solid, but like, I wish I
- 1:00:47remembered what category it was because I'm almost positive
- 1:00:51there's some category that he led the American League in.
- 1:00:54He had a big war. I think he had a 7.4.
- 1:00:57Yeah, maybe it was war. I don't know if he led he.
- 1:01:00But when you're playing every day, and maybe it was AL second
- 1:01:03baseman, maybe that's what it was.
- 1:01:04Yeah, but I agree he needs to show up and do a little
- 1:01:08something. Yeah, those are two guys, I
- 1:01:11think 11 from each team that are going to have to going to really
- 1:01:15need to do something to change the odds, to slide the odds into
- 1:01:23their respective teams favor. If they if one does and the
- 1:01:26other doesn't, that could be the difference.
- 1:01:30If both decide to show up over these next potential five games,
- 1:01:36then it's just up to the rest of the team to play their brand of
- 1:01:39baseball, Going back to the brand of baseball thing, and
- 1:01:42then you just let the chips fall as they may.
- 1:01:45But. I just want a long, strong,
- 1:01:49competitive World Series. Yeah, give me back to game one.
- 1:01:54Game two is I don't. I don't want that.
- 1:01:57We had. We had plenty of that.
- 1:01:59That's all this postseason. Give me back to game one.
- 1:02:02Give me a couple more game ones. I agree.
- 1:02:05Let's end. Let's end this year on a on a
- 1:02:07high note. Works for me.
- 1:02:11Any other takeaways from first couple games?
- 1:02:15Game three? We've got Max Scherzer on the
- 1:02:17bump and Brandon. Fought.
- 1:02:22I did hear this take. I don't remember where.
- 1:02:24I don't really remember sources very well.
- 1:02:27I did hear this. Take that like we're half as
- 1:02:29much crap as we've been giving shows that.
- 1:02:31We got to remind ourselves that like, this is kind of his rehab.
- 1:02:34Like he's the postseason has been his rehab.
- 1:02:38You're gone for what, Month and a half.
- 1:02:41Typically you get a couple rehab starts in the minor leagues.
- 1:02:44So, like his rehab starts have been against like the Houston
- 1:02:48Astros. So it's like not, but I thought
- 1:02:51he had a couple. Didn't he have a couple SIM
- 1:02:53games in there to I mean they they built.
- 1:02:55Them up a little bit I guess SIM games but like overall, you
- 1:03:00know. So he gave him a little crazy.
- 1:03:02He did look better last time out.
- 1:03:03It's still a short leash in my mind.
- 1:03:05So what's tough is that like you saw Martine Perez yesterday.
- 1:03:09You saw Dane Dunning yesterday. Is John Gray still alive or
- 1:03:13what's the story there? He would.
- 1:03:14He Is he not on the roster? He No.
- 1:03:16He threw, did he not? Did he?
- 1:03:21It just makes me game one. It makes me wonder what the
- 1:03:25situation is. Who is coming in after a
- 1:03:29possible short start from Scherzer?
- 1:03:33And then what do you do game four?
- 1:03:37Are you going short rest? I'll be interested to see if we
- 1:03:43see maybe an extended outing. And I say extended, I mean it.
- 1:03:47It's not going to be more than two innings I would, I wouldn't
- 1:03:51imagine, but we have yet to see spores in games one or two have
- 1:03:56yet to see. Yesterday.
- 1:03:57No. Not in game two.
- 1:04:00No. No.
- 1:04:02And then you attack on a travel day I.
- 1:04:05Mean the long middle relief type outing from him.
- 1:04:09You're going to need something the Rangers like.
- 1:04:10Their bullpen is just not good, so if you're not getting length.
- 1:04:16If you're not getting length out of Scherzer and then game four,
- 1:04:20it's either a short rest or a bullpen day.
- 1:04:22Like I don't. I don't understand what the game
- 1:04:25plan is. There.
- 1:04:29We shall see. I tell you what, Scherzer.
- 1:04:31Could short rest on native ALDI? Yeah, Scherzer could certainly
- 1:04:37do wonders for that staff if he could give them.
- 1:04:41Something. Give me 5.
- 1:04:42Strong. Give me.
- 1:04:43Yeah, I was going to say 5. 3 earned runs or less and I'm
- 1:04:47you're getting a very big standing up.
- 1:04:51I agree. I I believe it can happen.
- 1:04:54Like you said, we've been given, we've been giving him a lot of
- 1:04:57crap. But I like he's not, he's not
- 1:05:02dead. He just has not been very good.
- 1:05:05That's all I'll say, but it's it's it's within the realm of
- 1:05:08possibility for Max Scherzer of all people to be able to give
- 1:05:12you a five with maybe 3 earned runs.
- 1:05:16Like that's very much a realistic possibility.
- 1:05:18I think so. I think that's that's a fair
- 1:05:20ask, and I think Bruce Bocci would have quite the sigh of
- 1:05:24relief if he could have the conversation with Scherzer in
- 1:05:28the dugout after the 5th saying. Also comes down to really like
- 1:05:32the Rangers need to score in the first three innings, Like you
- 1:05:35have to get Scherzer some support.
- 1:05:37You got to score, cannot afford to get shut down.
- 1:05:41You can't afford fought to to get settled in.
- 1:05:45You can't afford pitch count to be in good shape.
- 1:05:47Like you need to either attack early, make him throw a lot of
- 1:05:50pitches, something to give Scherzer somewhat of a chance,
- 1:05:55but the offense has to pick it up.
- 1:06:00I just wish for. Give me a Scherzer CG, OK?
- 1:06:05I just wish, for Scherzer's sake, that he could have gone up
- 1:06:08against anybody other than arguably Arizona's best pitcher
- 1:06:14right now. They're hottest guy, I would
- 1:06:16agree. We'll see.
- 1:06:21Do you Are we throwing prediction outs on that or yeah,
- 1:06:27I mean we won't. They won't hear from us until
- 1:06:36after 3-4 and five anyway. So we can go, we can go
- 1:06:39predictions for 345 and then we can maybe reconvene after that.
- 1:06:44What do you? Got for outcomes for each game.
- 1:06:54I'm kind of like changing my script as I'm as I'm like
- 1:06:57everything I've said for this episode, I'm, I feel like I'm
- 1:06:59trying to. And maybe switch things up.
- 1:07:03I don't know. I I guess I got to stick to my
- 1:07:06prediction. I still have Rangers in six.
- 1:07:09So give me a Rangers response. Game three.
- 1:07:20Yeah, give me a Rangers response.
- 1:07:22Game three. Yeah, I think they take two out
- 1:07:28of three, two out of the Rangers.
- 1:07:31I. Middle game going to the
- 1:07:34Diamondbacks, I was going to say the same exact thing.
- 1:07:36I see the pendulum swing back and forth every game.
- 1:07:41I see the Rangers coming out in game three with the response,
- 1:07:44like you said, I see the D backs locking it in for game four,
- 1:07:49riding the momentum of the crowd.
- 1:07:51Hopefully they'll they'll be bringing it all three games.
- 1:07:55I see them picking up the middle game and then I see the I see
- 1:07:58the pendulum swinging back game five.
- 1:08:00And then they take that back to Texas.
- 1:08:03And then from there. And I I won't say that it's a
- 1:08:07done deal being back home because like I said we saw what
- 1:08:10the D backs did at the bank 6:00 and 7:00.
- 1:08:12So I'm not I won't put it past them but we'll just have to let
- 1:08:16it play it out let it play out at that point.
- 1:08:18But I I kind of like the the idea that the pendulum swings
- 1:08:23back, that'd be nice game, this series.
- 1:08:24Because it it seems like if there was a series for that to
- 1:08:27happen, it'd be this one. And I think we saw it.
